Something about soft characters being the most focused ones. Something about soft, gentle characters not wavering from the goal no matter what. Something about soft characters with a barely contained fierceness that explodes when it comes to protecting their loved ones. Something about bheem sitting in a truck amongst wild animals, waiting for his chance to pounce. Something about bheem driving his metal claw through ram's chest when ram hesitated to do the same to him. Something about bheem putting malli above everyone else and raining down on ram when he thought her safety was threatened by him. Something about the loud, raging way he regrets his hasty decisions when he finds out the truth about ram. Something about bheem risking everything by going alone into the British prison to save ram. Something about bheem going into an exploding building to bring back guns to ram. Something about bheem giving 100% and more for the people he loves every single time. Something about soft characters

Consciousness is alluring. The truth and the core self are like a lover undressed; you know only you will see them this way, and that when the world looks on they will see creases in fabric and face, a friend, an option. But you, when you trace your hands upon that true reflection, will know the rawness of skin and the taste of flesh that will linger through every moment you are away, and your internal eyes will forever be imprinted with their sweet perfume that only you know they wear in bed.

Imo Tomino's works focus on (in)ability to communicate and what attempting to do so means in that context. Which begs the obvious question: Why is diagetic language not much of a topic? 'Zeon accents' exist only as a passing remark in Gundam as opposed to a plot point. And Ideon is essentially fantasy despite Sheryl being a linguist. It's an odd choice to essentially handwave translation. (And imo, clutsy to do by inventing fictional machine translators with zero flaws) As a choice it really sticks out, in War n SciFi dramas particularly, since telecommunications and language itself are such massively impactful technologies interwoven with conflict as a whole. Having no personal experience w Tomino's direction it stuck me as poor oversight when I first attempted watching Ideon, that language as technology was brought up and essentially overlooked. Soft sciences don't sell toy robots, I figured. With context of his other works however I think avoiding the topic is done to make the themes more direct. By not focusing on language itself, the audience is forced to acknowledge that diagetically, Lalah is not speaking in 'Zeon' or Japanese or any preexisting language with its preexisting cultural connotations when she connects with Amuro. It's direct, just them. Any misunderstanding between them occurs not through poor wording or other errors specific to language as vector, but differences in their worldviews, arguably their very selves. Just like how Tomino coined "newtype" instead of reusing a prexisting term to avoid cultural baggage (as much as possible lol) showing communication without language makes explicit the stories' focus. It isn't about "being understood" in the hard sf sense where truthfulness, connotation, etymology etc can be meaningfully studied, it's about "understanding" as philosophy and morality and ontology. If you could see into another person's mind, directly with nothing obscured, would that be a good thing? How painful would it be? Could you know them and love them? Could you find peace with them? Or is conflict tied directly to the nature of individuals in our seperate individuality?

Sometimes I get surprised by the fact that some trigun fans can't stand watching 98 bc of the ways they have vash acting (the skirt-chasing, yknow) but then I remember that I've been a persona fan for almost 10 years now. I'm used to ignoring parts of things that I do not like in order to enjoy the whole of it.
