Poll adventure (paventure? lol) Day 8: !!NOTE: this is different from the past polls - rather than choosing a story action, you're picking supplies to craft a little makeshift boat (EX: wood will be the main platform, so there should likely be the most of it, however, if there were 100% votes for branches and 0% votes for rope, then it'd just be a pile of wood held together by nothing - keep them balanced reasonably, etc.))
(✦ see past poll results + further information HERE (link) ✦)
The winning option of yesterday's poll was that the adventurer should get around the barrier by crafting a little boat to take a river detour….
~
Finally crawling out of his hiding spot in the brambles, he meticulously brushes the leaves from his clothes and composes himself, now fully focused on his generic traveler's map of the area... After checking it about 500 times just to make sure he isn't confused, he determines that going down the nearby river would likely still get him where he's trying to go, and hopefully be much less treacherous than wandering through haunted forests or confronting the stern gaze of the barrier guards..
It only takes about 10 minutes of following a narrower rocky path off the main road to reach a nice shaded spot of land next to a small river. He kneels in the grass, eagerly rummaging through his backpack for supplies, in addition to whatever he can scavenge from the edge of the woods. The rush of excitement slowly dissipates however, once he realizes that he.. actually.. might not know how to make a raft as well as he thought... Surely it's quite straightforward, no? Just.. make it look like it does in picture books?? There are no rules, as long as it floats, it works! Probably anyone could build one on intuition alone! ... maybe...???
.. Once again sinking into a cloud of anxiety, he slumps over, staring at the pile of materials with teary eyes, doubtful what to even do next.... How should he build the raft? Help him by using the poll to choose the appropriate amounts of materials (determined by final % of votes in that category)!

i trapped myself into doing history research but i'm just gonna handwave a bunch of stuff because alternative universe
first and most important; the harrington family is british and royal enough to have a position with power and money to throw around, probably through some carefully planned marriages
they moved to france either for the absolute monarchy they had going on (britain grew increasingly parliamentarian, see: act of union in 1707) or because they wanted to remain catholic (see: english reformation during 16th century)
there was a french trading post established in indiana in 1673 and fort ouiatenon (first fortified european settlement) was built in 1717
thing is england and france has a really complicated history and also i have no idea where anything in indiana is so handwaving!
because the harrington family has to move from england to france in the 1500s/1600s and get established enough to then help with the colonisation in the late 1600s
...i got really attached to the idea of steve being born in the 1600s/17th century at one point, i don't know why. his name is probably like étienne stephen harrington which is just the same name twice in different languages. firstly stephen -> stephanos which means "wreath, crown, reward, honor, renown, fame" which fits what his family is going for, secondly, saint stephen is the first martyr of christianity. he was stoned to death.
anyway now that all that is set up
harrington family is trying to establish a settlement in what later becomes hawkins, indiana. they have wealth and power and an heir that they brought with them from france. but after the house got built and they got settled in, there was a lot more for them to do than expected.
slavery in indiana started with the french rule so. guess what the harrington family had. which is another reason steve never saw anyone if they were racist and didn't want their pure son interacting with anyone with different skin. steve has absolutely no prejudices because they never actually told him this, and he's really fucking lonely.
steve was 15 the last time he saw his parents, or anyone. they left for some reason or another and never returned. either they settled somewhere else or they got sick or murdered. maybe they returned to france and then were unable to get back to the colonies. i literally do not care
realistically, they must have left someone in charge to take care of the house and their son, but i assume they left after enough time passed without their employers coming back. not like steve was gonna do anything. don't ask why they never approached him to question him.
steve stopped ageing around 19, so a few years there something must have happened to the house. a curse, a spell, weird dimension stuff, who knows.
the house is frozen in time basically. but new people who enter aren't affected. steve would start ageing normally if he left.
idk i'm still figuring the whole magic house thing out. i don't even know what kind of house it is for it to be historically accurate. it's a european style house because i say so tho.
i would love for this to be historically accurate but i can't process the wikipedia articles enough and also i feel like most of it would fall apart oops

The first two predated Origins, the first was before we got a trailer. Each Tailstube has some type of topic/theme that co-sides it. First one was a general overview of the world as well as introducing Sonic and Tails, next was Eggman{who didn't have a model at the time, Orbot [and Cubot somewhat] did though}. Next, was Knuckles and Angel Island's history, then Amy along with discussing dimensions [and Metal Sonic briefly], now we're talking about the past with the whole group.)
Hmm, the next will probably have the Eggman model this time. (And I'm sure other characters will follow suit if they do what they did with Orbot) The question is, what topic would the two discuss? Maybe past inventions or technology in general?
Yeah, I mean, the Knuckles one predated Frontiers by a couple of months too I believe. And Superstars hasn't come out yet either. They do both. Promote the next thing that is coming out and discuss some specific concept.
Idk. I don't wanna see Tails and Eggman chatting like friends 😬. Honestly "two smart characters respect each other because everyone else is below their intellectual level" is such an overused trope and I don't care for it just being thrown in there with no regards for the actual characterization. Eggman used to have Tails's respect until Tails got older and got fucking tired of dealing with his shit. Why would he suddenly gain it back? Tails respects his friends and doesn't think they're below him. Everyone has their own strengths. What's more important is that their hearts are in the right place.
I guess Eggman does enjoy lecturing Tails to once again remind everyone who's the smartest guy around here lol.
Sorry for going on a rant completely unpromted. Don't imagine the Big Egg is getting invited to the stream anytime soon. (At least I hope so) (Orbot is another thing entirely) He might try to hijack it again though.
The most likely thing I could see Eggman and Tails discussing together is Gerald's work (Though I'd rather we had Rouge or Shadow for this conversation tbh) TailsTube doesn't introduce new concepts, it just elaborates on what already exists. They already went over the badniks, maybe talk about some specific ones? Or maybe like. Tails could talk about the various vehicles he designed and Eggman pops up like "Bah! As if this is anything worth talking about? Watch this". And pulls up like the pictures of the entire Egg Fleet or something. Or maybe they could compare notes on the Ancients? (Or talk about various old gods since Eggman likes to summon them so much haha)

People judge actions based on reactions and Mike is a prime example. He is a very hated character right now but consider this
Season 1: Mike said to El (twice, I believe) "What is wrong with you!" She ran off hurt but returned within a couple episodes. (People often like to parallel him saying this in season 4 to the cliff scene when he didn't but forget the times he did. He didn't get worse or more hypocritical you just picked bad examples). I don't remember him directly apologizing for this, though he did validate that she was not a monster and he did not see her as such and that could be counted for one of these instances.
He is widely forgiven and even forgotten for this.
Season 4: Mike initiates an attempt to understand and console El. When confronted, he cannot say I love you but tries to say everything else he can to make her feel better. She is crying, speaking poorly of herself, and angrily throws letters while confronting him. After many episodes apart (which he spends brainstorming how to fix things and she spends not bringing it up once) he apologizes to her in full, hitting every point and taking full responsibility, at the soonest opportunity.
He is widely antagonized for this.
