The blog these explanations are on also go over other issues with konami like her blatant ableism, her creepy habit of trying to paint real life queer people as abusers without a single shred of proof, and more!

How old is Scorpia?/Is Scorpia an adult among a cast of teenagers?
(cw: swearing/cursing)
Short answer:
No. She isn’t. She is also a teenager, a bit older than Adora and Catra, but not a fully fledged adult, or even near as old as Entrapta (who is implied to be like, in her late twenties, early thirties). My guess is that Scorpia is eighteen when the show starts, as Adora is (confirmed) to be seventeen when the show starts and these two were both old enough to given Force Captain roles.
Long answer:
We know that she was born during or before the Black Garnet’s capture, because she grew up in the Horde, knows what happened to her family all those years ago, and has never gotten the chance to connect with her Runestone, if she was ever introduced to it at all. She would at least be there before Catra and Adora, and before Shadow Weaver, who had witnessed the Black Garnet being captured in real time as Light Spinner. Not to mention that King Micah is a child when the Horde captures the Black Garnet.
She’s old enough to know she would never get along with other princesses, though it is not clear if she is simply relayed this information, or if she has actually experienced it first hand (claw?). If she has experienced this first hand, which is heavily implied, she must have gone to a Princess Prom before to then be rejected. Princess Proms are one decade in between each other. The next one happens when Scorpia and Catra are friends, implying that it would have had to been ten years later for Scorpia to have been invited again.
Where am I going with this so far? When Scorpia is so clearly an adult? She has to be, otherwise this timeline would make no sense, yeah?
Well.
That’s because this timeline makes no fucking sense.
It would make no sense for Scorpia to have been alive for the fall of the Black Garnet, when Young Micah was training under Light Spinner. Even if she was a baby and had absolutely no way of remembering this. This would still be too many years too far for Scorpia to be a teenager when the show starts. It would make more sense that Scorpia is born after the Horde and her family are aligned, that she was born as a soldier rather than a princess.
Her mothers are an obvious answer to how she knows about the fall of the Black Garnet, where Horror Hall is located, her grandfather, all of that... But we don’t know that, like, at all. For all we know, Scorpia’s mothers are dead. We don’t know when they disappear from Scorpia’s life, or if they have disappeared at all (they could have, after all, just never had the screentime to show their faces).
And there really should be no reason that if Scorpia was born in the Horde as soldier, but without her mothers, that she should know half the things she does.
There should be no reason she’s invited to Princess Prom the elusive first time to even know that she is not accepted by other princesses, or that they don’t like her family.
None of this makes sense. Scorpia’s entire backstory makes very, very little sense when taken into account for the rest of the larger story, even if I do try to wedge in pieces in the gaping holes of canon.
And believe me, I’ve fucking tried.
So, back to the title. Scorpia belongs to the “(Elemental) Princess” category of the characters, who are mostly teenagers turned young adults by the end of the show.
So, there you go, Scorpia is a teenager turned young adult by the end of the show.
“That’s a bullshit answer!” I hear you cry.
Well, yes! It is.
Scorpia should be an adult by the time the show starts, given all the information we have from canon itself. But the saving grace here is that she is also shown pining, crushing, and being heavily implied to be romantically interested in Catra, the actual canonical teenager. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that Crew-Ra had no intention of making Scorpia a fucking creep and that they simply didn’t notice that Scorpia should be an adult.
So, what is it then? Adult or teenager?
...
This show has given many middle fingers to many plot points, many times over.
So here is the chance to turn the tables.
Scorpia is eighteen when the show starts.
Her crush on Catra is not inappropriate for their ages.
... Because I fucking said so.

also just wanna point out: the fact that it’s catra that insists to adora that it ‘doesnt have to always be you!’ and tries to prevent adora from sacrificing herself GREATLY weakens the message. like, theyre under the impression that the world will literally end if adora doesnt do this, and ofc its catra of all people who would be willing to let the entire world end for her own sake (which in this case is also adora’s sake)
like. the problem stems from the fact that catra ‘caring about’ adora is equivalent to catra looking out for herself. we don’t need proof that catra cares about adora, catra has ALWAYS cared about adora-- she’s literally obsessed with her all series in a very self-serving manner. she gets upset if adora doesnt take her side and upset when she loses adora. its just that, in THIS INSTANCE, what’s “best for adora” and what catra wants are the same: for adora to be alive (and subsequently, with catra). thus it really doesnt demonstrate any growth compared to catra at the beginning of the series!!
what would’ve been more powerful from catra’s end is to show her being willing to sacrifice herself or something she cares about for the sake of someone else/a greater good. like, i’d almost argue that catra LETTING adora sacrifice herself would’ve been more revolutionary for her character. or how about having catra offer to sacrifice herself instead?? that would show her ACTUALLY prioritizing adora’s needs over her own.
and from adora’s side, the message of...taking care of yourself or w/e would’ve been more powerful from someone other than catra. like, make glimmer be the one to say it! glimmers been putting pressure on adora to be shera since s1, so it would show a lot of growth on her end if she were to say ‘you know what? you dont have to sacrifice yourself/be shera!’ and that message coming from glimmer would ACTUALLY be revolutionary for adora, like i think she would be shocked to hear it come from glimmer.
ultimately catra trying to prevent adora from sacrificing herself sounds a lot like “stay with me!! pick me!! choose me over saving the world!!” which is....exactly what she’s been saying since s1 so!

i swear i could rant about this for hours but like i think noelle forgot that she made Adora an alien cuz she sure as hell did not develop first ones as a species at all like the only thing we know about them is that they read symbols on walls. Jesus anybody can learn how ro reas chinese will be my new catchphrase when talking abou them.
Hmmm yeah, so my issue with the First Ones plot being essentially dropped is broad and sweeping. One, there’s a curious context into a theme of colonization...in a sense? It’s said the First Ones literally used Etheria to turn it into a weapon and harvest its magic so like... The people there? And literally in that (dumb filler episode) Signals...They find an old First Ones colony...COLONY...that was abandoned. For why? Because of the Heart? And did that imply they were gonna dip and just let all the people who lived on Etheria die... Like THERE’S A LOT IMPLIED THERE THAT’S JUST DROPPED OKAY THANKS
Secondly, it will bother me FOREVER, that in episode 1. The first one. The FIRST episode. The very first impression we get of Adora---She joins the other side, abandoning the Horde, because her driving motivation is to find out who she is.
And then she never does.
Light Hope TELLS her she’s a First One, Horde Prime tells her she’s the last, but then... That’s the answer I guess. And that’s lame. Even if that IS the answer, the bare bones, it would seem fair to let Adora really spiral over that---considering it was her initial motivation that kicked off...yknow the entire plot.
Beyond that, I’m really frustrated with the lack of a mention of Adora’s family, and Eternia, and the First ones as a Society. Because we all know....that’s what it was. That’s the property of She-Ra. It’s a spinoff of He-Man. So regardless of many ‘rights’ or issues with properties, etc, the fact that nothing ELSE was made up to sound like/or drop hints/ or allude to Adora’s birth family.... Yeah it’s really frustrating.
And you’re right there is then also an implication of literal Alien status, very much like Superman right? An alien sent from another planet by a ‘superior’ race of beings that has cosmic powers unattainable by the rest of the cast. How do they deal with that Messianic status.
I mean SPOPs issue at the end of the day is inconsistent tone--which unfortunately, devastates it as a final result. Because it alludes, pretty strongly, towards a lot of these complex ideas and themes and then drops them before any significant resolution can even be made. And it leaves things feeling hollow not only in terms of plot --- but in terms of the main fucking character.

listen I know it’s important to consume media critically but I simply cannot. The second I turn on the TV I turn off every single one of my brain cells. Whatever the show writer ppl say is fine with me. My favorite character is always the main character and my favorite ship is always the canon ship bc that’s what they told me to like and who am I to have my own opinions? the moral of the show could be like “murdering your family is good actually 🥰” and I would be like aw okay favorite show whatever u say ily 💖

small vent post. tw// c/a, abusive/toxic relationship, reclaimed slur q*eer, ask to tag if i missed any
its so personally upsetting to me as a queer person to see a lot of young queers hail c/a as this groundbreaking piece of representation. it's actually extremely terrifying as well, because media, especially at an age where you're desperately searching for something to help you understand yourself, can leave a massive impression and change the way you experience life. emotional abuse and toxic relationships exist just as prominently in the lgbtqia+ community, and to see so many young queers look at this relationship as something good and positive... it's scary. they'll believe that's the blueprint. im not saying most will end up in an abusive relationship as a result, because god forbid that, but those behaviors won't show up as red flags.
i would've loved c/a when i was a baby gay as well. and im not much older than the young queers im talking about, but as ive talked about in my pinned post, i was in a toxic relationship that had major similarities to c/a in canon. even w shows like steven universe showing me what healthy queer relationships and rep looks like, i was still deep in the middle of the toxicity. even though she had some of the same qualities as catra. i thought if i loved her hard enough, if i believed in the good in her, if i held on tight enough, she would change.
it just doesn't happen like that, and everyone around me realized this years before i did.
i think she ra dropped the ball. i think n*elle had a very good chance to tell a story of breaking the cycle of abuse and instead chose to satisfy their(?) own desires, which is heartbreaking to me as someone who had high hopes for the show. i wanted a show that my younger self could've seen and known what to avoid. i wanted a show to show someone younger, for them to find strength in, and that's not what i got.
if you still enjoy spop, more power to you. my she ra critical posts aren't meant to make you feel bad. in fact, i wish i could still enjoy the show, the raging dumpster fire that it was. i just cant look past its flaws and the rippling effects it has had on everyone im friends with.
my content creator buddies are getting burnt out on creating for this fandom; the interactions they've had w c/a and catra stans, as well as the lack of positive interaction w their content, the toxicity and outright rudeness and bullying on most platforms... it's just made them tired. im not speaking for all of them, obviously. its still disheartening to see any of them lose the passion they had for this fandom.
im very much upset that everything happened like this. im upset there's no going back, and there's not really any way to fix the regression we had in terms of wlw rep except to create stories where this isn't a problem. but if the story c/a tells is one that future creators think is good, what type of stories will they tell?
