I've finally finished my Danganronpa AU personal project! I personally call it

DANGANRONPA: DEMIX

And yeah, all the swaps as you can see above, and these guys in the middle are the replacements for Monokuma and Usami respectively:

Finally finished my personal AU project. I hope it's to everyone's liking!

I can go on forever about these designs but I'll limit myself to one-two sentences on some facts about the designs.

Mikan: Mikan's face tattoo was commissioned on her against her will so that she can never hide her nature as a Yakuza, but her leg tattoo was done on purpose, and she and Nagito have matching tattoos on their legs, his is just hidden most the time.

Nagito: He is usually seen with a spear and prefers the weapon over the sword, but he is more famous for his natural skill with the blade. That said, he resents the blade and wishes he could be recognized for the things he actually works hard to do, like throwing spears or protecting Mikan and her family.

Ibuki: I kept her design very similar to her base design because she pretty much just looks like a student, and I don't want to change anyone's personality so there's no reason for her to not get highlights. But I gave her some more symmetry in this design and gave her a cute little semi ahoge I guess with a hair tie, bc she doesn't naturally have one.

Imposter/Gamemaster: Yeah I made the big brain choice to keep him with his colors as "Byakuya" because it made for a more striking visual, and more recognizeable as the impostor. Also I made him too tall because I wanted to give him big legs lol.

Hiyoko: Her four cats are named Heart (scraggly cat), Mr. Pearls (sleepy cat), Big Red (Giant cat), and BB (black cat) bc canonically the four dark devas are named after shonen manga, I named her cats after pokemon games, which she canonically likes playing. Also chickens are her favorite animal, despite her love of cats.

Kazuichi: Kazuichi's not a natural born prince, through shenanigans it turns out he's extremely distantly related to some royal line in a microstate north of germany called "Nordsumpf." Their main exports are cars and Kazuichi is still new to being a prince.

"Kyoko": She'd try her best to act like Kyoko, but she's a little too meek and openy affectionate to pull it off properly. Also her knockers are way bigger than Kyoko's, so there's an immediate discrepancy to the trained eye.

Also in my au of DR1, Kyoko is the ultimate affluent progeny and Makoto is author/serial killer.

Hajime: His hair is actually extremely long back there, he just keeps it tied up. On shows he lets it all out and a wears red contacts, his stage name is "Izuru."

Sonia: Sonia became a team manager because she was escaping an assasination attempt, strolled into a junior laegue soccer game, took over for the coach and started just barking orders and the team won. They were the worst team in the whole league and after that she just sorta stuck around them and won them the championships.

Gundham: Gundham was orginally meant to wear the japanese flag… but there was too much white in his design so I cut it. He has names for all of his gymnast moves and he announces them very loudly when he does any of them.

Peko: I tried to give Peko a unique sort of "zombie survivor" kinda vibe so while she's clearly a mechanic first she can also just fucking kill you by braining you with that monkey wrench. Most of the time she's cool though, she's just like horribly dependent on other people to tell her what to do, so she attaches to Kazuichi because he's the most immediately available authority figure.

Fuyuhiko: He's got that sort of machismo that makes him not like to admit he loves dancing, but the moment he's complimented on it he'll really appreciate it. Also he's still part of a crime family, but it's just not as strong as Mikan's.

Akane: She really looks sporty still, but don't worry she's definitely "lucky," she's just much more focused on the future than her bad luck in the moment… which can be very bad, actually, and can make her come across as kind of aloof.

Nekomaru: Why is nurse Nekomaru not as common a thing. Just think about it, it's perfect. Nekomaru here got inspired by the bravery and hard work of the nurses that treated him and boom he became a nurse, nobody tougher than healthcare professionals after all.

Mahiru: Mahiru as a nurse is honestly a really really really fun concept but I feel like I wasn't very ambitious here, and I can't really show it through the drawing but one of my early drafts had her look more like a european chef a la gordon ramsey bc I headcanon her as a scot.

Teruteru: Decided to give him a raincoat which my sister pointed out to me could also be a trenchcoat, which is just PERFECT for a creep like him. It just writes itself man, though seriously he's mostly a landscape photographer who specializes in pics of the countryside. Still a huge perv tho.

Usowa: Name is a combo of Usagi and Chowa, the word for Harmony. She's less like a chaotic force of nature like Monokuma and more a manipulative and hardline teacher who coaxes the students into doing awful things by playing into their insecuritoies with motives, and which then causes them to kill, allowing her to punish them, "weeding out the weak and undisciplined among their ranks." She replaces Monokuma.

Kyojuma: Name is a combo of Kyoju (professor) and Kuma. He's a pretty silly guy with an easy temper to poke at, but he's good at heart and tries his best to be a more sort of "fun" teacher than the rules lawyer Usami kinda was. He just wants to help his students, too bad Usowa showed up and decidedly does NOT like his approach.

OK SO he has a lot of eye symbolism on his clothing like his bowtie, his thigh bracelet, his coat buttons etc. Its a pretty good representation of his character considering he has the “all seeing eye” and how he has “eyes everywhere” as in he can see your every move and choice, being privy to the future, but I also think it could be a link to the organization or person that originally gave him his ability

[ Diamond Theme

He ALSO has a lot of diamonds on his outfit. I think that this is more eye symbolism since the basic shape of a human’s eye is that diamond shape but its common enough that I think its orobably notable

[ Sun Symbol Theme (Its supposed to be a darker blue)

THERE WWS ALSO A LOT OF SUN (?) SYMBOLISM Those symbols on his jacket and gloves look very similar to how the sun is drawn in things like religious art or ancient art. It also looks similar to Sunday’s halo so maybe its related to an Aeon?????

THE SYMBOLS ON HIS BOWTIE AND THIGH BRACELET SPECIFICALLY LOOK LIKE AN ORGANIZATION SYMBOL

It seems to be all the symbols from before combined like it has the eye in the center obviously but if you look directly top to bottom it looks like a diamond as well BUT IF YOU LOOK AG THE SIDES IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS MORE NOTCHES MAKING IT LOOK LIKE THE SUN ITS SO CRAZYA. Ok the sun part is a bit of a stretch but still its one thing if he just has eyes everywhere but having the same symbol shape is a bit suspicious. I also think the sun itself couuldddd be an organization symbol or like the symbol of an aeon

[ Symmetry and Lackthereof

Ok now this is more just about the symbolism of his general composition. I find it very interesting that at first glance his clothes are very symmetrical and well kept but upon closer inspection, a little disheveled. Like his gloves look the same but if you look long enough you notice one has a hole in it or how it looks like he wears no earrings but you realize hes just wearing one. I think its a good sign that although Elio seems very well put together hes a bit (crazy person hand gesture) a wee bit mentally unstable probably.

I also take it as a good symbol of his “method to madness” mentality like how his shirt is disheveled and not tucked in all the way but it still looks very intentional and is pretty symmetrical. Also how his belt is half slid down but it—again appears to be intentional.

Even if its not intentional I believe that when creating characters people tend to accidentally include that kind of thing

[ Ponytail (Very Important)

HE HAS A PONYTAILLLLLL (?) I mean when I saw his hair bow I expected him to have a little one but I RANDOMLY NOTICED THE HAIR BEHIND HIM AND I WAS LIKE ⁉️⁉️⁉️ So I think he has long hair and its in a ponytail Idk changed my whole perception of him; also it didnt match the color of his cape thing but seems pretty close to the darker parts of his hair (I used the darker parts bc ofc the hair behind him would be darker than the top of his head in the light)

I mean yes of course I still care about Marinette and Adrien but I know I’ll enjoy them in this fic and on top of that they’ll always have canon and other fics too, whereas I will never be able to enjoy your Kagami and Felix outside your writing because the ml writers don’t have half the brilliant characterisation or good taste in ships and other fanfic writers just cannot pull this dynamic off okay, like

Like I genuinely don’t think anybody else can pull off this characterisation of how Kagami and Felix are in a way two sides of the same coin - they are both fully on the side of (their own idea of) Justice and they will be a little cruel if they need to be to do so, but at the same time they are both so dedicated to protecting the people they love - and this is the most interesting bit because I feel like what you’re implying is that if it’s for the people they love then Felix and Kagami actually both have the potential to become a bit of a hypocrite against their values (I mean Felix I think it’s almost outright confirmed he has/does this rn with him working for Monarque but I’m intrigued how far he will go), like not compromising on the bottom line, I think neither of them will ever compromise on what they think is Absolute Injustice, but they may compromise enough to bend their morals just a bit, so long as they don’t Cross That Line (for Kagami I wonder if she will ever even get near that line while for Felix I wonder if he’d be willing to move the line signpost by an inch or two)

While we are on the subject how dare you imply Felix has kept her at an arm’s length this whole time because he’s insecure about being a senti and now you’re going to have her take his ring, and he won’t just be hurt or betrayed (as you’ve hinted he kinda already expects the betrayal bc he knows where Kagami’s values stand) he will be humiliated just like Adrien neevr wanted LB to look at him like that (and LB doesn’t even KNOW-know), for Felix to have his deepest darkest secret blasted on full volume to the ONE PERSON he never wanted to find out, and for her look at him as if he was LESS of a human even if it was just for a moment, even if it is just in that second of the initial shock - I- I need a minute

No I’m genuinely tortured by this, I keep thinking of all the potentials of how that scene would go like just imagining- like how do amoks work? does Kagami realise whose amok it is the minute she touches it? I feel like Luka’s suspicion of her mean her betraying LB on a small-medium degree is inevitable, so this could be her moral bending point, her freaking out and deciding to keep Felix’s secret and taking a ring lookalike to LB instead which isn’t an amok and is just waved off as a sentimental ring of his mother’s.

(even better if Felix doesn’t know know that She Knows and continues with his farce none the wiser so Kagami has the time to adjust to the revelation and my boy is spared some PAIN)

And Kagami can rationalise it against her sense of justice because forcing someone to divulge information against their will is just evil, really, and she can’t let LB do that as she knows she inevitably will and it doesn’t hurt their cause for her not to know Felix is a senti so why not keep that on the downlow? Though I imagine it must absolutely backfire/blow up in her face later

(Also Luka would have no right to judge Kagami for keeping secrets to protect the ones she loves considering but I feel like he still totally would 😂 that would be funny if he called her out later and someone was like Uhhh pot meet kettle?)

BUT THEN there is the alternative where you don’t figure out whose amok it is when you touch it and I’m like does Kagami hand the ring to LB first without realising first and they all find out only when LB commands “Adrien” to come to their location?

Ngl part of me wants to see Kagami wounded by her own betrayal - like her being shocked and appalled when Felix is forced to show up instead of Adrien as they expected, seeing the humiliation and betrayal on his face, and LB obviously doesn’t care bc Felix isn’t Adrien, LB doesn’t think there’s any good in him, so she’s not gonna show mercy because this is her CHANCE to find out the truth, everything about their identities and hideout has all just fallen into her lap, she’s totally ready to force Felix to bend to her will and interrogate the pants off him, and HONESTLY I would metaphorically DIE if at that point Kagami just snaps ‘no’.

Like silk over steel low-key feral protective Kagami saying no you are not about to take away his free will I don’t care if it’s for the greater good or not, no okay, N - O, squaring off against feral vengeful LB who may just lose it and actually Hurt Her because she is so close, SO CLOSE, to finding out the name of the man she has to murder for her kitty and the girl she thought was her ally just cares about her villainous boyfriend. bug vs dragon almost fight over peacock’s ring? 😬

Lol also it would be funny if we had indignant Luka in the background like I TOLD U NOT TO TRUST HER (pot, kettle) and I can just imagine Felix dryly saying to Kagami ‘it’s a bit rich of you to try and stop her now when you’re the one who gave the ring to her in the first place’ (I’m so convinced sarcasm would be his coping mechanism 😭)

Like see this is the interesting thing about Felix and Kagami that we don’t have with the lovesquare, it’s seeing how they interact within the context of their clashing morals, bc LB and CN are usually morally aligned in that they agree on what is Right, but Kagami and Felix aren’t like that, they Really Do Not Agree on what’s Right so it’s interesting if/how far one or both will compromise for the other, and how that will affect their relationship with each other and others

But like I don’t even know if either of the two scenarios above are even close to the mark bc there are clearly so many layers to each of their characterisations and idk if I’m even interpreting half of it right, like but the beautiful thing us I could be totally wrong and still love them because you can tell you’ve put so much thought into their interactions and motivations

and I’m so sad about this like I’m so in love with a ship that’s doomed to exist only in this fic, do you know how tragic it is to be addicted to a drug with only ONE supplier for a limited period of time???? I guess I can kinda think of it as like shipping a movie ship but I still cannot get over this personal tragedy okay don’t judge me

To sum up I am more invested in this fic’s feligami than s5’s lovesquare at this point and honestly I feel victimised ;-;

the idea of feligami was born when i saw this in s4 "Gabriel Agreste." me and my sister thought it was hilarious how they glared at each other once, then ignored each other the rest of the time. idk if i've said this, but it's actually at my sister's request (plus my own wish fulfillment) i wrote feligami into one does not love breathing. (i tried to put them into my other fic What Makes a Monster last year, but had no room D: )

you really said what i love about my felix and kagami best. i'm just. in AWE. not only do you understand how i have them diametrically opposed as players in monarque & ladybug's game, but you also understand how they function as characters!! i don't even think i could have stated it better, really, which is why i was grinning like an idiot while reading your ask.

taking what you said about "it’s almost as if [kagami's] own hard edges recognise the soulmate in his sharp edges" & "FELIX HAS A HARDNESS AND SHARPNESS THAT MAKES HIM HIS OWN PERSON like not because she recognised Adrien easily!" -- THIS WAS IMPORTANT I'M RLY GLAD IT GOT TO YOU! something felix uses to his advantage is his identical appearance to adrien. take that away from him with kagami, and what does he really have left? this "levels the playing field" between them, so to say, and i think that was what initially drew him to kagami. that she could tell felix was felix not by recognizing adrien, but by seeing him for who he really is <3

"Kagami is Good with a little ruthless in her and Felix is Ruthless with a little good in him" <- aaahh this GOT me, anon! and it's why i ship them & made them main side characters in the fic. by placing them on opposing sides yet weaving their storylines together, we get to see them bring out their true selves in each other. felix needs that; he's always being sneaky/has a trick up his sleeve, while kagami is blunt and direct and doesn't put up with bs. the more involved they get with one another, the more we see them bringing out those opposing qualities in each other; felix coming clean, and kagami sneaking around as a double agent. makes me think of this line of analysis: "I think neither of them will ever compromise on what they think is Absolute Injustice, but they may compromise enough to bend their morals just a bit, so long as they don’t Cross That Line." YES ABSOLUTELY!!!! aaahahah it's SO fun to write anon!! i'm glad you enjoy it as much as i do heheheheh.

i do dare imply. i dare all the implications. you guys are getting pretty good at guessing what my plans are, i must say. i've even taken some of your theories/guesses/hypotheses and pasted them in my notes doc so i can pack more of a punch when the time comes :DD HOWEVER you will never get me to admit to anything! NEVER! but i can promise that it will hurt, yes. i can promise that whatever u think felix and kagami are planning, it will indeed blow up in their faces (rip to your metaphorical death, anon). and i also promise this fic gets softer. i swear. that goes for feligami as well ;))

Any Way the Wind Blows

eyy second song in the transcript / analysis thing of Hadestown's lyrical differences from this one bootleg I found.

Having done a little research I've found out this is from the 2018 London run, from November 2, 2018, ending a few months before it re-opened back in the US of A on broadway!

(i'll only be including lines that have been changed, for length)

These are the opening verses of AWtWB and they're honestly pretty good. I like how the final line of Hermes' bit really strengthens the whole The Fates = The Wind thing going on because (for me at least) it wasn't super clear on my first couple listens of the broadway recording. I also like Eurydice's line referring to Summer as 'she', I think referring to Persephone as a literal representation of the seasons is very cool.

"you can’t see, but you can hear" is such an interesting line because I never really considered if the fates were visible to the characters. How much more devastating would that be for Eurydice, to have all her hard work snatched from her hands literally by the wind- she has no idea why or how she is starving but all she knows is that she must survive. Do you think she even knows the fates exist? UGH i love it

While I love the apocalyptic vibes this gives off I can kinda see why they weren't kept for broadway. Hurricanes and fires are caused by climate change but it's a touch too removed from the actual concept of climate change to help spark the analogy.

I really like the symmetry of "You’ve been looking since the day you were born / You’ll be looking ‘til the day you go" but that first line especially is pretty clunky. I'm no lyricist but maybe something like "you’ve been looking since you were born / you’ll be looking till you die”

I LOVE these final two lines. OBSESSED. I don’t know why they didn’t make it onto broadway.

Those two lines relate to how Hadestown talks about art and what art means to people. Orpheus’ song (which here symbolises art) literally changes the world. It gives Eurydice hope for the future and rekindles the passion in Hades’ & Persephone’s marriage. It’s literally vital to the function of the world. But it’s unsustainable. If your head is in the cloud dreaming you need to have your feet on the ground. That's the half Eurydice represents.

Eurydice died because Orpheus was more focused on his song than getting food on the table. In this first half, Eurydice symbolises practicality and Orpheus symbolises passion for life + art. (I say the first half bc it def changes in the second half but ill save that for another post.)

The concept is still there but it's so much clearer with these two lines.

Tbf, Vince's ending doesn't even FEEL like the 'right' ending. Like, the game itself, isn't patting itself on the back. You HORRIBLE whenever Leo dies (as u should) and no Matter what ending it is, Vince feels like he gets shit on. In order to keep my sanity (and not keep swearing), I'll take that as a 'Tragic' ending. It would've been so much better if Vince gets to see the actual flaws of the system he's working for, faked his death, helped Leo and his fam, as he tagged along too. I don't even mean this as a Romantic ways, I just mean this as Bro's For Life ways. How can you go thru so much of that and NOT be Ride And/Or Die? Be a bitch ass Cop, that's how

YEAH but like even from a story & not just emotional perspective it’s so stupid!!! Obviously Leo end is better but NEITHER end feels like the end to the game. They both suck! Like. Vince & Leo together injured or killed like FIFTY+ COPS — how is that logistically worth it to the law? Like just send a swat team after Harvey or smth. Or make it easier to escape wtf. But yeah like. ??? Who the hell would not side with Leo at the end. He’s some thief but he’s not a bad little guy, and he’s got the personality of a dog (I mean this lovingly — I’d diagnose myself with a version of dog personality tbf), come from being very mistrustful, to having complete faith in Vince & loving him and having this familial, almost paternal relationship towards Leo, and they almost die for each other so many times. It makes no sense they wouldn’t care about all the other laws and legal professionals harmed, but they just /HAVE/ to get the blue collar thief back in custody at the end. Like he coulda just lied & said Leo died in the jungle or something, and it’s frankly unbelievable both that the twist happens at all, and that if it did, Vince wouldn’t have a change of heart. Like those two clearly care about each other—fuck man, Leo took Vince to meet his wife & kid—Vince plays basketball with the guy’s son. Leo was invited in to meet Vince’s new baby. There’s not the narrative motivation for Vince to not just let him go, even if he’s medium-shitty. Leo isn’t some serial killer he teamed up with. He didn’t personally wrong him. He’s just some guy who’s become family.

Idk why the creative team thought it made sense or would be emotionally rewarding bc it does neither. Like if you’re gonna be a plant in the criminal world & found family a low level thief guy, at least have the stones to Brian O’Connel it and help him escape like it’s ride or die, not ride and blue stripe, bitch. It should have been a finale of them escaping together with no twist, or Vincent having a change of heart and helping Leo escape or breaking him out. It’s called ‘A Way Out.’ That should have been the theme to end on too. God’s sake Leo is there nervously trying to help the man with his marriage. There’s no reason to be so manipulative and awful and use someone only to throw them away to those degrees. It should have been narrative symmetry of beginning with Leo leading Vince in an escape, and ending with Vince breaking Leo out. If it had kept the twist at all that it frankly didn’t really need or gain anything from (at least not the way it was executed).

i’ve been exploring the desert all afternoon and i’m speechless genuinely gobsmacked flabbergasted completely shellshocked by how fucking insanely good it is. i alr knew it would be one of my fav areas from the moment i saw the night sky against the sand dunes and i knew there had to be an underground area when i didn’t get the achievement for getting all the teleporters even tho i definitely got all the visible ones. so i knew there had to be smth going on underground but good lord i wasn’t expecting the execution to be so fucking good. it’s always been the most enticing part for me getting to watch the game design change and evolve and this is just. yea this is way beyond my expectations. i love how you can see the steps leading up to this moment, the things they tried first in other areas and kept polishing and improving until they could unleash them again in the desert bc u can FEEL the influence of enkanomiya (colossal architecture, bygone eras, absent gods) and the chasm (huge fucking caverns, twisting tunnels, paths overlaid with paths) and even the flying through air mechanic from inazuma where you needed the electrograna to fly which i always hated and thought it was stupid fucking difficult to control BUT they took that idea and polished it until they could implement it again in sumeru where it works way better. and the way it’s utilized in the king deshret ruins like my fucking god. the way it allows you to hop across platforms safe from the bottomless pit of the duat hall like there is just something so fucking good about it i can’t put a finger on what it is exactly. idk the impossibly huge underground caverns and the gorgeous symmetry of king deshret’s architecture and the gigantic majestic statues everywhere like i have no words at all. beautiful atmosphere as well bc u can just FEEL the majesty and power of the scarlet king everywhere you go

Hello I'm back on my bullshit about 3zunchengning poly AU, don't mind if I do scuse me I've been having some feelings about them all interacting so I'm just gonna get em down for posterity

A lot of the feelings I have about MingChengYao interaction boil down to my overthinking about Nie braids and Jiang braids + colors... Like in a world where Nie braids (CQL) and Jiang braids (donghua) exist, I feel like Nie braids are characterized more by symmetry and intricacy of arrangement whereas Jiang braids... not so much. Both evolved from the practical need to keep hair up, tidy and clean longer (Nie because butchers, Jiang because out on the water and at the mercy of the elements). But where Qinghe took them braids and really ran with it to distinguish between different roles, etc and also part of their sect identity (bc canonically the reason MY was treated like shit was because his mother was a prostitute and not formally part of Lanling Jin, so too I bet other clans also looked down on Qinghe for being founded by a butcher) as a "fuck you" to the snobs, Jiang braids developed in a different direction. Yunmeng braids could be intricate in certain contexts (maybe earlier in the sect history especially for significant life events?), they have for the most part kept more to the root of their origin (to keep the face clear of hair and out of the way in windy/stormy weather conditions, so navigating on the water is never hindered). In Yunmeng, hair is sectioned and braided to follow more curving lines around the head; those who are particularly skilled at it are said to have hands from which rivers flow, or you might say of someone whose hair is beautifully done that their hair runs like sweet water. Wrapping braids with (silken) cord or ribbons is also a favored style, and these kinds of accessories are a common gift from parents whose children are of marriageable age, or from a suitor with the means to impress. While intricate braids are beautiful, doing them up like that all the time takes time and energy best used for other things, so quality of hair ornaments/clothing counts just as much when you're looking at a person, perhaps arguably even more in a sect who can afford to clothe disciples in purple/black and issue them metal bells as tokens of their status as said disciples. Jiang Cheng as we see him in CQL (as jiujiu) wears sumptuous clothing, but doesn't have an equally intricate hairstyle, and arguably he doesn't need one in order to express how powerful of a man he is.

On the other hand, the relative intricacy found in Qinghe braids is also due in part to the martial aspect of the sect -- in CQL and the donghua their associated colors aren't quite as flashy as Lanling gold or Yunmeng purples, but dark grays or muted greens suit a martially inclined sect very well; different grades of fabric for clothing and different details in disciples' braids also help differentiate between those of different rank/roles in the sect. You can really see this in Meng Yao's rise in Qinghe -- from when he first meets Mingjue personally with his single braid fetching water to him personally escorting the heir apparent to Qinghe to the guest lectures in Gusu with those smaller, delicately wrought braids.

Hair and its arrangement is really important to how Mingjue, Jiang Cheng and Meng Yao show closeness in the polycule. Not only did Mingjue bestow braids (and status, and influence) on A-Yao with those braids, he also was the first person to disregard Meng Yao's background in favor of his own capability! The fact that we see young Huaisang in Fatal Journey with the same guan as Meng Yao years later in Gusu implies that Huaisang gifted it to him. To my knowledge the only three people we see with the coiled braids in CQL are Mingjue, Huaisang and Meng Yao -- also implying a level of regard (or closeness) not bestowed to the majority of the sect's disciples...

In the donghua we see Jiang Cheng adopting the same side braids that his father wore after the fall of Lotus Pier; Jiang Yanli wears a braided hairstyle as well! This implies the same kind of exclusivity as to who can wear their hair like that, at least in the donghua. Arguably in CQL you get more of that style mirroring with JYL and WWX with wrapped braids but I digress because in my 5-way sworn brother poly fixit all three siblings work that shit out and become even closer after the fall of Lotus Pier. Anyway the point I'm trying to make here is that once Yanli marries into Lanling Jin she'd be expected to take on the dress, style, colors of her husband's birth clan; same goes for Wei Wuxian who would presumably kind of tone his whole protagonist thing down to respect Gusu Lan's history of ascetic aesthetic :^) So obviously Jiang Cheng would have to look to his partners for that kind of style sharing and intimacy because let's be real, the man was absolutely robbed of people to lavish soft domestic attention on to in canon timeline. Mingjue has only Huaisang's hair to do until he gets himself some partners and a bunch of nieces/nephews through sworn brotherhood so give the man some hair to play with. Meng Yao had even less than both Jiang Cheng and Mingjue so he also needs somebody's hair to do and do hair for!!

Uhh in case anyone's wondering why I'm waxing so poetical about hair and domesticity, it's because way back in the day if you were seen in public with your hair down or improperly styled then you were either insane or embarrassed about it. The only people in your life that would see you with your hair completely unstyled are the person who's putting your hair up for you/attending you in the bath, if any, or your family that you live with (your spouse and children, maybe, and maybe not even that if you're posh enough). Like a lot of fanon tends to gloss over the need for servants and attendants in a more historically based setting but like. It's a thing y'all. Not shading anyone that doesn't go that deep in but it's an interesting level of detail to have. Sending away any attendants to be alone with your partner(s) carries a whole other layer when you're not married yet and supposed to be chaperoned, or when you're a busy sect leader 9 days out of 7 and your partner's just decided you need to rest and be pampered, or when you're married to like four other men and that fact is classified info, you know?

It's funny to me that since day 5, when my chest was free of bolsters and binder, my nipples have kept the same traits. Left nipple is 10/10 visually, 3% sensation(none at first) meanwhile my right nipple is 7-8/10 visually but has 15% sensation(atleast 3% to begin with)

And I love them both no complaints. It's just funny bc I can see how the sides in whole are healing differently, and know for a fact my right side is healing differently bc of the way I sleep, I have my hand near my face/ middle of my chest and knew it'd probably effect the healing symmetry but decided I didn't care bc meds weren't knocking me out and I wanted to be comfy. Don't regret it at all, just an observation lol. Like just my results in general waaaay exceed my expectations there's not really any way it could heal that I won't love

this got long, but not as long as the last one, I promise!

⛰️- What was the hardest part?

this is probably pretty obvious for how fucking long it took me, but I'd say spellbound (reprise). I'd thought the Masquerade had been hard up until that point, but jesus, the idea of having to bring it all home and tie it off successfully terrified me. There were lots of things I wanted to make sure I set up for later, but then I wanted to make sure I closed all the things that needed closing in a way that didn't just feel like a cop-out. I think I rewrote the damn thing six times, each time adding a piece that I felt it needed if I wanted it to have any symmetry whatsoever. I have a Hector and Rora segment that I ended up having to cut entirely, as much as I loved it, because I didn't know what half it should go with when I realized I'd have to post it in two without totally wrecking the pace I was trying to keep. I'm planning on posting it separately later, just because I think it's a really interesting look through Hex's perspective, but I feel it's pretty emblematic of how difficult it felt at times to figure out what elements to bring forward and which ones I had to tie off as everyone shifts roles. I don't know how the fuck I thought I was going to have all of this done by Halloween, what the fuck self lmao.

I was also just exhausted from my semester, and kind of having to balance concluding my work for my students with just generally being at a point where everything but writing felt like it hurt because I was so burnt out. I was honestly really nervous when I was writing this at times, because I couldn't tell if I was happy with it before I posted it, or if I was just exhausted here too. And if even writing was starting to feel like it hurt, what was I going to have left?

I think I'm mostly pretty content with it - Maxi and Reader's conversations in that chapter are some of my favorites in the whole Arc - but I think if you gave it to me over again, I'm sure I'd find something I'd want to tweak, or do again slightly to the left. It might even look different when I try to tie it all together in the manuscript version for a pitch contest, we'll just have to see. But for now, I'm pretty okay with it, for it being my first Arc ending and all. :)

💁- Did readers influence change any part of this story?

Hector was supposed to be so awful! He really was supposed to be my main antagonist as the would-be golden boy of They Who Decide, as some of y'all probably guessed when I wrote the Voicemail chapter. Before that, he'd already shifted in my notes from an ER trauma surgeon who maimed and mangled his patients internally on purpose, to a crime scene photographer who was caught meddling with scenes because he couldn't help himself around blood, to finally just being a spirit/Remembrance photographer who also moved around a lot from place to place bc he kept fucking up and attracting attention to himself. I was originally going to have him kidnap the Reader from their house after Maxi told them the truth about the Curse, which was going to lead to a showdown between the two and Rora in a location I wound up cutting from this Arc bc it took too much moving around. But around the same time I was deciding the Reader needed to be the one to have a showdown with Maxi (playing with the Final Girl tradition), I was getting a lot of feedback that people really liked Hector. I mean, I'm sure his fc being Diego Luna helped lmao, but also people just seemed to dig him in a way I hadn't expected! I didn't want to set people up to like him only to have him turn out to be a total fucking monster (although, I dunno, I guess that could have made for an interesting plot twist??), so I started slowly walking him back a bit as I got to know his backstory/figured out his arc for later. Then the longer he kept talking, the more I realized he was just a big space cadet with rage issues and a murder problem, and here we are. :'D Congrats, you guys, you got him an arc!

He and Rora were also supposed to be in a really toxic co-dependent relationship, when I first started planning for them. They're definitely still very close, as we'll see in some flashbacks down the line, but now they're more like mutually exasperated siblings than what I had planned originally. Which is maybe for the best, bc I wasn't even sure how I was going to post some of the things I had planned lmao.

He and Maxi also turned out to be way more dependent on each other than I thought, rather than the original total break-up aftermath I had planned for them. We'll get a look at their relationship too as we go on - they're close in a different way than Hector and Rora or Maxi and Rora, and the way they've been constantly pitted against each other through their childhoods as the two only/oldest sons of twin brothers who both wanted to secure their legacy with They Who Provide has a lot to do with how they see themselves and each other now.
