Wednesday/Enid x reader - a monster

I would be just fine for any plots for that Ghoul!Reader x Wednesday/Wenclair one. I havent thought of bringing tokyo ghoul into the fold and now im just imagining scenarios. But reader being secretive about being a ghoul and nevermore sourcing reader with human flesh just for them to live and not become beserk - @tundra1029 💜

You were dancing a little to the music flowing through your dorms as you were tidying things away that you had scattered about during the week.

Humming along to the music, you grabbed some clothes and jumped over the chair to your bed, folding them away as you used your kagune to grab some more clothes from across the room and set them on your bed.

There was a loud knock on your door and you jumped, putting your kagune away, you checked yourself in the mirror by the door, red eyes fading to normal as you blinked.

Once you were sure everything looked normal you opened the door and beamed at the duo who stood on the other side.

“Hey! Come on in!”

They walked in and looked around at the bomb site of a room.

“This is ridiculous you’re never in here.” Wednesday sighed.

“I know, but I was cleaning.” You grinned sheepishly.

“Cleaning it throwing stuff?” Enid chuckled.

You laughed a little bit, rubbing the back of your neck with a small grin as you struggled and went back to folding your clothes.

Wednesday started to organise your desk while Enid helped you put your clothes away.

“We’re going to the cafe for dinner, are you coming?” Enid asked.

Gulping a little bit, you glanced at her before turning away and shaking your head a little bit.

“Sorry, but I have a meeting with Weems.”

“Didn’t you have one last month?” Wednesday asked.

“Yeah, but I have to have one every month since my outburst last year.” You pouted a little.

“Outburst?”

You sighed and turned around to face Wednesday, sitting on the bed you fiddled with the hem of your hoodie as you looked up at her.

Enid smiled and sat next to you, placing a hand on your shoulder and gave it a small squeeze.

“(Y/N) has uncontrollable anger issues, even the smallest things can set them off.”

You nodded your head.

“Yeah, so Weems is teaching me how to keep it under control, and she does regular check ups on me.”

Wednesday nodded her head and went back to what she whole doing while you simply carried on with your cleaning.

As evening drew closer, you watched them all leave before you made your way over to the principals office and lightly knocked on the door.

She announced for you to come in and you make sure the door was closed behind you.

“Good evening (Y/N).”

“Hey Weems, sorry I’m late.”

“That’s fine, come, sit.”

You did and she offered you a cup of coffee which you happily accepted and sipped at as she reviewed your grades and the progress you were making.

This part of the meeting didn’t take very long, it was just standard things she had to go through to make sure everything was on track.

“We’ve got some more food for you, but I’m sorry you’ll have to have to make this last. The CCG are in town and we can’t get you anymore.”

“That’s fine, I can stretch this out for a few months, I may have to drop some classes during that time though.”

“That’s fine, we can get you your work to your dorm, and keep everyone away from you.”

“What about Wednesday and Enid? They come by every single day.”

“We’ll tell them that you’ve gone to visit your family for personal reasons, everything will be taken care of you haven’t a need for worry.”

You sighed, running your hand through your hair as you shook your head at her.

“Weems we both know keeping me here during that time is a bad idea, you saw what I did last year.”

“Trust me, I remember.”

Weems rolled up her sleeve to show the ugly scar on her arm, clear that someone had taken a chunk out of her skin.

She then rolled her sleeve back down.

“As a ghoul the need to eat will drive me into a pure animalistic impulse, there won’t be a single thought in me and I’m scared of that.” You sighed.

Weems got up and walked over, placing her hand on your shoulder.

“I won’t let that happen okay? We’ll get you everything you need until the CCG leave (Y/N). Ghoul or not, you are still a student of Nevermore and I protect my students.”

You nodded your head and accepted the package she had given to you and stuffed it into your bag before quickly zipping it up.

“The moment I feel out of control I’m leaving the school.”

“As long as you return.”

You nodded and rushed back to your room.

You didn’t have long until they got back, so you ate a small bit and ignored your stomach crying out for more and you unlocked your fridge and stuffed it in there.

Then you washed the plate you used and washed your face.

You loved your friends but you couldn’t ever let them find out what you were

Piston Cup Racers Hcs (i lost track which part alr... Travel edition!)

Ill just do the cars 1 trio first because i am sleepy and this is too long but i havent done hcs in so long and id rather do this than any work so.

Strip Weathers

Honestly? Wants to take Lynda out to a fancy restaurant and just spend time with her, or even go admire the scenery together.

Very chill. Does not over or under pack at all, somehow.

Will, however, end up talking for a couple of hours to some random strangers about racing, somewhere.

This normally happens when Lynda is shopping- but only on occasion

Sticks to his wife like his life depends on it (because it does. he sucks at navigating)

Tries to experience as much of the culture as possible!

So. damn. polite. No one can get angry at him for trying wrong.

Can probably master an accent within a week with some unseen talent

Likes the freedom that comes with not being recognised a lot (im going off this that like outside of usa ppl don't know much about nascar and so this applies in carsverse to the piston cup like everyone knows its there but like. not intimately familiar)

Makes the most of it, but hates the plane rides

Chick Hicks

Shopping. Bro can never get enough of shopping and it is an issue (for his finances? yes. for his ego? nah.)

Will probably get drunk at least 3 times while sampling the local alcohol (not so much of 'sampling' more of taking shots :skull:)

Preens at every opportunity he gets recognised, probably- (yes.)

lowkey brings the 'other countries are cool but my own country is better' vibes. but only because he hates being left out of conversations and god damn it is annoying when he can't understand jack shit of what everyone else is saying

therefore he tries to go to english-speaking countries as much as possible

would taste-test the cuisine and make a rating for every. single. meal.

gets lost in the airport, nearly misses his return flight. barely makes it though

business-class traveller. will probably start talking to the person next to him VERY loudly and with no regard

Lightning

I mean come on we've all watched cars 2

As polite as can be (i have to be a good representative of USA racers-)

Still manages to get at least 2 speeding tickets every time he travels

Packs too much, paranoid something will happen he's not prepared for like you never know

souvenirs!! and definitely buys doc a fridge magnet from every trip. doc keeps them all on the fridge, but never talks about it unless forced to

if he buys anything, it'll probably be some nice clothes for himself - man's got a decent fashion sense

makes a joke and realises everyone else probably don't understand. whoops.

visits archeological sites if there are any! (a huge history nerd. especially for his dinosaurs hehe)

hi i have an eddie request but ill understand if you arent comfortable writing it, its a fluff piece where the reader gets their period in the middle of school at the hellfire lunch tabel and the whole time they seem uncomfortable and everyone is asking if they feel okay but they insist they are fine, then when its time to go to class everyone gets up and leaves besides eddie who notices the reader stays seated and then he tries to get her to tell him whats wrong

Warnings: Fluff, periods, period blood, Eddie is first and foremost a gentleman.

The cafeteria was too loud, laughter and chatter and bright lights making your head pound. You sink deeper into your sweatshirt, it already zipped up as high as it can go as the group of Hellfire nerds you'd long acquainted yourself with clamour around you. The room felt colder to you than normal - your body curling in to preserve as much of your body heat as you could.

Normally, your involved heavily in the rowdy antics of your geek squad. Normally, you'd have picked your way through most of your mediocre lunch tray. Especially, on pizza day. But the orange grease stains the half melted cheese and your napkin. You've barely taken more than two bites in the last fifteen minutes. The imagery making your stomach curdle just a bit isn't normal for you. You know that.

Your name being called by one of the freshman has you glancing up into Dustin's frowning face. "You feeling okay? You've barely touched your lunch."

You're heart flutters nervously when the table is silenced and all of them turn towards you. Your friends had the worst timing.

"Oh, I'm fine. Just not real hungry today. Do you guys want it?" You urge, pushing your tray further into the middle of the table.

"Are you sure?" Gareth offers up.

Your cheeks burn with hot embarrassment because you can see Eddie's intense gaze settled on you from the head of the table. The Hellfire King's eyes steeling you in place as you pretend it's not.

"Yeah, you should eat more than that, at least," Mike starts. "Unless your sick."

"Just kind of queezy," your admission comes quietly. "This is too greasy. I really don't want to make it worse." Your answer seems to appease most of them in the way you hope it does. The slice goes to Dustin. The milk to Gareth. And the rest is followed quickly by the rest of them. Hungry teenage boys never turned down offered food.

It's several minutes later when a gooey gush occurs that you realize exactly why you're feeling this way.

"What's with that face?" It's Eddie who commands your attention, obviously noticing the paling of your completion or the widening of your eyes.

"Nothing." You cover quickly. He lifts his brows in questioning. You pray he reads the expression you shoot back as "I'm fine, really!" And not constipated. He gives you a single nod as you cross your legs.

You cursed yourself for wearing a skirt today. The only barrier between you and the seat being your underwear. You'd just wait for everyone to leave before checking to see if you bled through the fabric and onto the rouch textured chair.

You plead the bell will ring faster, watching the clock nervously as it ticks closer to lunch being over.

When it finally does, you wave your friends off as they shuffle off. You're too busy watching people float past to notice someone pulling up the chair next to you. You jump when you turn and find Eddie's face inches from yours.

"Eddie, what are you doing?" You squeak at him.

"Seriously, what's wrong? Are you avoiding someone? Is Tommy bothering you again?"

"No," you promise as the last of the students exit the cafeteria. Your voice sounds nearly too loud in the echoing room.

"You can tell me, you know." You wanna melt against him.

"It's just embarrassing is all," you tell him, hoping to deter him from further questioning. Really you just wanted your crush to stop coincidentally inquiring about you leaking blood beneath you.

"Nothing is embarrassing to me. I promise. Are you sick? Do you need me to drive you home?" He insists. It makes you want to pull you hair out - you settle for running your hand through it in frustration.

"No," you repeat. "It's nothing. Just go to cl-" you stop talking when his hand lands on your knee.

"Don't lie. You're a bad liar."

You bite your lip, tears welling against your will as you break. In a tiny voice, you finally mutter out, "Eddie, I think I just blend through everything..."

To your surprise, his face summons sympathy rather than disgust. "Oh, okay," he takes a deep breath as he glances around the room at the lunch ladies clearing the tables. "Do you have the stuff you need? The offer still stands to drive you home.

"I'll get blood on your seat," you whimper. Eddie snorts at that.

"Wouldn't be the first time. Come on. Let's go." He stands, holding a hand out to you. Your eyes widen for a moment.

"Hold on," you promise and reluctantly shed your sweatshirt to tie around your waist until you stand. You want to cry when you stand and spot the red stain on your chair. "Dammit!" You breath and go reaching for your discarded napkins from earlier. When you turn back to wipe it up, however, your eyes widen with horror.

Eddie is leaned over your chair, casually using his hanky to wipe away the blood before you can. He straightens when he's finished, casually tucking it in his back pocket.

"Ready?" He hums, like he'd just plucked a hair away, instead of the shedding lining of your uterus.

You sputter at him. "That... you didn't have to -"

He grasps your arms, pulling you close with that sweet expression all over again. "It'll wash out." Then he frowns and rubs his hands over your arms. "You cold?" He hums, as he finds your goosebumps.

"A... a little?" You offer, still too stunned. In a little shimmy that brings him into your space even more than before, he's shrugging out of both his jacket and his 'Dio' vest together. He doesn't even stop there as he helps you into it instead. "Eddie," you murmur without further words.

His smile down at you is stunning, warm and proud. "Don't worry about it," he encourages. "I can't tell you how long I've wanted to see you in it." You nearly faint at the words as he slings and arm over your shoulder and tugs you into his side. You can't imagine what the two of you look like. Not until he waltzes you through the hallways, slowly approaching the up coming crowds of other students. You flush when Mike and Dustin cheer at the sight.

"Eddie," you chirp, leaning closer to whisper this to him, "It's gonna start a rumor about us." It earns you a grin.

"I can think of worse rumors, can't you?"

ALRIGHT SO, lets talk about text boxes, in almost every game, at least any that have a good story, have a text box where you can talk to the npc's. usually its a box below the screen with at least a name and then text in the middle, but i've been thinking about them a a lot, since the type of textbox for my game would impact the overall vibe A LOT, i want every chapter of my game to have a different vibe, my plans all have different themes for each town and place they go to. meaning that i want my text box to be simplistic and not to attracting. So i went to toby fox! , i love toby fox and his overal vibe, his text boxes are very simple, it has a white outlining and just a general black and white vibe with a single image of the character you are talking too.

Deltarune does smth similair except more detailed portraits and those little thingy's at the corners. i do have to say, as much as i admire Toby fox, and love his music... i have never played any of his games because i am broke as fuck i have played a bit of a demo before but that was AGGES ago, but AS SOON as i have enough money i will try it out!

BUT i don't want to copy toby fox, so i will try and take inspo from other games i like (and also havent played because i am broke...)

That and i find the black and white vibe to be to simplistic for my maximalist mind. So then another game i LOVE the art is great i have also been listening to its music before i knew it was from a game (and i also havent played it caus i'm broke..) OMORI!!

Omori also has a very simple vibe to it but it has multiple boxes 1 portrait that changes a lot! and a thingy where you can see the name of the person you are talking to! i also remember from a random jaiden animation stream i watched where she played Omori, that omori has a lot of cutesy text animations where it moves at certain words to give of better vibes, tone and emotions to what the npc's are saying.

Then one of the games i haven't played BUT i have seen almost every ending is the class of 09, the game that inspired me to make a game, then learn how to code, and decide to work on a completely different game lol

class of 09 is way different then omori and toby fox games. it has a very clear vibe to it, the paper and all is great, but it wouldn't work for me. something i LOVE is something that isn't rly a part of the text box, but the thing behind it. the fact that you can see 2 full body drawings of the characters (the player and the npc for example, just 2 characters in this specific one tho) and basic actions, and movements gives them SOO. MUCH PERSONALITY. i love pixel art, but its hard to animate emotions into them, and especially in my artstyle. so i always thought i'd learn to make more detailed images of my characters with a bunch of different poses and smash them together like pngtuber. that way you can see the person you are talking to and it would give them so much more personality and i would be able to draw all the little things i want to add to the sprites, but can't because its to small.

i also have Stardew in mind (A GAME I ACTUALLY PLAY) as just as omori it has a portrait and a name, then a text part, it has a wood theming just like all the ui in the game, and that fits stardew Perfectly! butt i don't know what that would be for my game.

So to make a conclusion, i need to design a simple, but interesting ui, with a place for a name, text and an at least torso and up image of the person you are talking to! then i either need to choose for a single colour and outline, or i can go the class of 09 and stardew vibe, and pick a texture and a vibe that fits the game, but since every chapter will be somewhere completely different (stardew is always in the valley and class of 09 is in a school most of the time so their textures fit)

so what would be a good texture that fits the vibe of the game, has a simple texture that won't class with completelly different themes of each chapter, has a perfect way to show the npc in the frame, and just... looks good.

the theming around my game is fairly simple, a kid's soul shatters into pieces and they try and find the pieces to find out who they were and how to ended up in the spirit world, meeting different people who all have differen story's on how they ended up in the spirit world, and spiritis themselves.

i have thought about maybe theming it around stars, since it is a MASSIVE part of the lore and aesthetic of the game, in the spirit world, there is no sun or moon, and stars float around that give off heat and light to the world. so i could do a galaxy textured textbox? but i feel thats to themed.\

anyway what do y'all think!! this is a rlyyyy long post that i've been thinking about making for ages now! pls tell me what you think i should do!!

what dating peter sutherland is like part two 💌

• be prepared to have everything done for you whether you ask him to do it or not

• did you offhandedly mention the list of chores you need to do? dont worry about it, peters got it covered

• he likes to cook for you

• before he started dating you, he actually had no clue how to cook anything that wasnt super simple like boxed pasta

• in the early stages of the relationship he took cooking classes to get better and while hes not a professional, he can make you some pretty good homemade meals

• in return, you like to exercise your hobby for baking and make him a lot of sweet treats

• he loves watching competitive baking/cooking shows and no one can tell me otherwise

• you both love to watch them together and will wait until both of you are free to catch up on any episodes you missed

• he’s extremely supportive

• going to a pride parade? he’s there to support you (and everyone there) and have fun!

• a protest perhaps? he’ll stand right next to you with his own sign

• he loves dogs

• he loves being in nature

• any time he gets hurt he recites the names of his favorite basketball players to distract himself from the pain

• his favorite place to be is with you at his cabin

• he loves to give you gifts every once in a while especially if he notices that you’ve been eyeing something specific but havent gotten it for yourself yet

• staying in with you is his preferred way to have a date, hes not fond of being around people too much

• he’ll 100% take you to a restaurant, fancy or otherwise, if you want him to

• most of the time theyre diners or small businesses

• peter knows what having a panic attack is like so he for sure will help you out and have techniques and methods for you to try when you’re having one yourself

• this is inspired by @underoospeterparker wonderful period comfort fic that i requested and its that he will literally take care of Everything

• he’ll put a pad in your underwear for you so it’s all ready to go when you need it

• he’ll warm up a heating pad as soon as you ask

• buys you your favorite snacks and some extra pads or tampons (or whatever you use) when you start your period

• peter is like a human furnace so you like to lay on top of him like he’s a living heating pad for your tummy — he enjoys it very much

• he drives you to your therapy appointments and waits in the car until youre done

• he never asks what you talk about in therapy but you usually tell him anyway

• there arent really any secrets between the two of you

• there might have been some things neither of you wanted to talk about at first but eventually you both share them with one another

• peter is actually really funny and always tries to make you laugh

• playing against you is the only time he feels like he’s good at basketball 😭

• “you’re the one who didnt get into the nba!”

• “at least im tall enough to qualify!”

• he pokes fun at your short stature whenever he can

• peter is 6ft tall so he towers over you

• as hot as he thinks you look when you’re wearing his clothes he also finds it hilarious because theyre so long on you

• shirts? they reach your knees

• pants? always have to be rolled up at your hip otherwise you’ll step on the fabric at the bottom and trip yourself (you did this once and peter was very concerned but also couldnt stop laughing)

• he doesnt look after himself the way you think he should, so you’re always paying attention and making sure he’s eating/hydrating when he needs to and getting enough sleep

• i feel like one year for halloween you make him dress like spiderman because they have the same name and you dress as mary jane and do the iconic upside down spiderman kiss

• you’ve basically christened every single room in his apartment

• he might not like every single hobby you have or everything you have an interest in but he’ll always participate if you ask and you do the same for him

• you own skin safe markers and sometimes when you get bored you like to color in his tattoos. he actually really enjoys it and finds it relaxing

• speaking of tattoos

• when he realizes that you’re the one for him and that he wants to be with you for the rest of his life, he gets a tattoo of your initials on his arm

• when you find out about the tattoo you immediately book an appointment for yourself so you can get his initials tattooed on your hip or maybe your wrist

• when he sees it for the first time he thinks its so sexy that you have his initials permanently on your skin that he makes you orgasm like 5 times

• he knows you love homemade personal care products (soap, bath bombs, things like that) and will buy them for you all the time

• you always call him on your way home from work or whatever it is your doing that day and if you’re stressed he’ll set up a relaxing bath for you for when you get home

• and he goes all out

• he goes through your stash of products and even has new ones ready to add to your collection, a nice lavender bath bomb, some rose petals, ect

• he sets up a speaker to play relaxing music and even puts a small table next to the tub thats got some of your favorite snacks on it along with a bottle of water

Heyyy back with another fanfic. Sorry it’s been a minute since I’ve written a full length one. I’m Going through weird teen stuff! I’ll try to keep somewhat active since school starts back in a week.

Summary: Luz has a bad day at school in the Human Realm. Amity decides she’s in dire need of cheering up.

Today Luz Noceda couldn’t catch a break.

School sucked. She was getting really tired of picking spitballs out of her hair, hearing snickers behind her back, and to top it off, drawing King on the corner of the math worksheets she received was becoming something her hands just did now. Like second nature. Having to see his face every single time a paper was passed out was already bad enough for her psych, and yet there was another worse issue with it that was rearing it’s ugly head.

Her teacher didn’t like the drawings very much.

Most of the time, there was only a few little notes next to the pictures When her work was passed back to her after it was graded.

“Don’t draw monsters next to your geometry.” Or something like that.

Luz always just shrugged and made a mental note to stop, but just found herself unable to.

Today though, it had seemed like her teacher had it with her King portraits, and had held Luz back after class to lecture her.

Luz didn’t get it. The work was done AND (mostly) correct. So what if there was a silly drawing in the corner?

But, all of Luz’s rightful points were left unsaid as the teacher ranted to her about unprofessionalism.

About how this wasn’t art class.

And Luz just had to nod tiredly.

And do nothing.

And now, she was low.

So, when she entered the Noceda household, one witchling in particular caught on almost immediately to her blueness.

Amity Blight knew her girlfriend inside and out, maybe even better than Luz knew herself. And although Luz had never been particularly happy during their stint in the human realm, she picked up on the extra sadness that weighed her human down today.

How those eyes just looked so.. downcast.

Well, that just couldn’t do!

A short talk later about Luz’s day, and a little rant from her about the unfairness of her teacher that also followed led Amity to discern just what her batata needed.

A good laugh, of course!

It only made sense after all.

What did Luz do every single time Amity found herself in a little sad rut?

She Made her laugh!

It was about time that favor was repaid.

She needed a plan, though..

“I’m off to bed!” Luz called from the kitchen, making her way to her own room. She halted as Amity waltzed behind her, hugging her from behind with a playful little canter in her voice.

“Oh no you don’t!~”

Noticing her tone, Luz sighed and turned to meet the other girls face.

“I’d love to play cards with you again, Ami, but I’m not really up for it tonight.”

Amity chuckled, reaching up to put a stray curly hair of her girlfriends mane behind her ear.

“We’re not going to play cards, silly. But I am_ gonna get that smile on you again.”

“You could’ve just asked.” Luz said, putting on the best smile she could for her.

It wasn’t her normal one.

“Nuh uhhh! That’s a sad smile. Where’s the Luz smile?” Amity giggled, placing a finger under Luz’s chin.

“I dunno if I can do that one tonight, sweet potato..” Luz replied dejectedly, looking to the side as her hand reached up to touch the one at her chin.

“Not without help you can’t!” Amity grabbed her hand gently, pulling her along to the living room couch.

“What’re you getting at?” The human raised an eyebrow.

Sitting down with her, Luz took in her surroundings.

Around them, Camilla was getting ready for bed, the sound of her taking a shower just being heard down the hall.

Willow and Hunter were having an epic Uno battle while sprawled out on the carpet. (Willow was winning.)

In another corner, sitting on the floor, Vee ranted to Gus on and on about things she learned about in the human realm as some space documentary played on the tv in the background.

It was.. really calming, actually?

Everyone was seemingly okay for the moment.

Her observations were cut short, however, as Amity tackled her, letting out a little playful growl.

“What I’m getting at..” Amity started, wiggling her fingers over Luz’s ribs teasingly,

“Is that I know EXACTLY how to cheer you up!”

“Amityyyy-EHEHEHE!” Luz’s whine was cut off as her girlfriends fingers dug into her ribs and sides, reducing her to giggles.

“There’s that smile!” Amity exclaimed happily, reaching up to tickle the humans’s armpits next, the girl’s laughter going up like 3 octaves as she did so.

Everyone in the room glanced up for a moment at the predicament.

Willow in particular grinned smugly, and she yelled out “Get her knees, Ams!”

Amity nodded, reaching down one hand to squeeze at Luz’s knee, trying her best to also keep her pinned.

“SCREHEHEW YOU WIHIHILOHOW!- AHAHAHAHA!” Luz fell into cackles as she was mercilessly attacked.

A few minutes later, and the tickles had stopped, Amity instead pulling Luz in and snuggling all the ghost sensations away, playing with her hair as they listened to some British man in the documentary talk about black holes.

Surprisingly, this had felt.. nice.

Her laughter was such an odd sound to her now, besides the occasional chuckle here or there.

Everything had been so crazy lately.

And yet, now here she was, laughing and carrying on, just like the rest of her friends.

It was far from perfect, and this bout of happiness wasn’t going to last forever or make everything suddenly okay

But, atleast now she was relaxed for the night.

And she was smiling.

Her real one, this time.

Some of you have probably noticed that I havent made a liveblog post in a while. Well, thats because I usually read on the bus and during my classes and then I come home and summarize my thoughts on the 2-5 chapters I read after theyve marinated in my head for a little while, but unfortunately i appear to be incapacited at the moment so I cant do that. But because its been weeks and I dont wanna forget anything and I would very much like to finish this series soon, I'll try to read at home sometimes from now on. Since my brain is still a lil mush Im gonna do what I did for my last post, which is write down what Im thinking as Im reading instead of summarizing all my thoughts retroactively, except this time I have my german copy on hand so if I want to quote something it'll be a translation

Chapter 40

Ive been wanting to say this for a while now but i kept forgetting, but they translated 'winnowing' as 'den Wind spalten' ['splitting the wind'] and that is objectively so much cooler, shoutout to my gal Alexandra Ernst for that

Feyre being like "ugh, its so pathetic how these human guards think they could stand a chance against even one of us" hurts me so much you guys what have they done to my girl

Once again, its apparently perfectly fine if Rhysand doesnt tell Feyre anything "because she never asked" but if Tamlin doesnt tell her anything when she never asked hes the devil

Also once again, Feyre is perfectly not-triggered at Mor wearing a scarlet dress

Idk how to explain this, but Rhysand saying that Feyre is wearing a golden crown because "she looks so good with it, how could he not give her one" is somehow the perfect encapsulation of the hollowness of her High Lady title

Oh, of course three of the queens only showed up to watch the other two talk, itd be too hard to write dialogue if they actually participated in this important conversation

hello???? Feyre referring to humans as "your kind" ??? wth is going on

"every side bears some blame" hey rhysand ive got a question for ya. which side enslaved the other again

everytime the oldest queen does anything the prose feels the need to remind me of how old and wrinkly she is and its like, i get it, shes OLD

The oldest queen is spitting so hard rn, Im not even gonna question how they heard of the night court when Feyre, who lived closest to Prythian for many years, didnt know anything aout the individual courts prior to getting there herself, Im just gonna put her whole little monologue here: "Oh? [...] The High Lord of the Night Court asks that we join him so that we can save lives together? Fight for peace? And what about the lives that you have taken during your long, despicable existance? What about the High Lord who shrouds himself in darkness and destroys the mind of those who stand in his way? [...] We have heard of you on the continent, Rhysand. We have heard of what the Court of Night is capable of, what you do to your enemies. Peace? I wouldn't have thought that you - a man who enslaves the minds of others and kills them out of pure enjoyment - even know that word."

Anyway, she was spitting absolute bars and Feyre gets super mad about it and almost commits arson but manages to reign herself in and its like girlie, why are you so upset? one of the first things we find out about the night court in this book is that they apparently indiscriminately kill (or atleast torture) anyone who crosses the night court border without permission like theyre the fucking us government, i think the bad reputation is justified

Forgive me if I sound callous, but I have absolutely no sympathy for Rhysand flinching at the mention of Amarantha when Feyre didnt even use her name and is also talking about how she fucking DIED AT HER HANDS

God, I feel like I have something to say about every single line this post is gonna be like 10 thousand words long by the time Im done

So lets take it from the top; Feyre tries to convince the mortal queens to give them the half of the book by recounting to them how much everyone suffered under Amarantha and how she was gruesomely beaten to death and then revived, which is not a compelling argument to me, who actually witnessed all of that, much less these queens who have barely any context for anything shes saying right now

The oldest queen is like "you dont know anything about anything" which is true what the fuck does Feyre know about whats going on in the human world or even the fae world at large, and then Rhysand growls "dont you dare talk down to her!!" because shes passionate and speaking from the heart or whatever and its like, okay, shes still not good at politicking or even just basic negatioation and shes talking to a seasoned politician who old as fuck

Like, if Feyre was actually smart, she wouldve long since realized that she couldnt convince these queens to protect this little slip of land right up to prythians border and been like "okay, you dont wanna protect the land, but can you atleast organize an evacuation so you can atleast save the people" Sure, they definitely still wouldnt have agreed to that because its a sjm book and theyre written to be comically evil, but it would atleast demonstrate Feyre being a little savvy, because right now all we're getting is her being stupid and stubborn in a situation where she really cant afford that

god, im just now noticing how pissed off I am, its been bleeding into my commentary and its not gonna stop, Im sorry. wait no, if youre reading this youre probably looking for negativity, so youre welcome, actually

Anyway, Rhys also says that Feyre is a kindhearted soul looking out for people who cant defend themselves even though she definitely thought that those human guards were pathetic for wanting to defend themselves when she and the other fae were soooooo much more powerful and he definitely knows that because the mental bond is fully open during this meeting and he chastises the queens for being selfish and cowardly when its like, my brother in christ you are doing the exact same bullshit, but atleast the queens are defending a wholeass continent while hes defending one (1) city. and iirc that city ends up getting attacked and destroyed anyway so good job my guy

Theres something so oddly biblical about the story Mor is telling about Miriam, down to her name being Miriam

That island thats removed from time is such bullshit istg

Is it just me or have these bozos not actually explained what they even need the other half of the book for. theyre just like "we need to stop this war and we'd like peace between humans and fae" and its like cool, hows the book gonna help with that though

im sorry, feyre wants to punch that old woman in the face????

the chapter ends with Elain being like "I hope they burn in hell" and i get that, they just straight up said that they want to abandon a whole bunch of people (them included) to die if a war breaks out, but you cant say that the night court girlies are not also at fault for being so fucking bad at politics

are you a fan of sonic the hedgehog? perhaps ratchet and clank is more your style? or maybe you like both? well, have I got the ship for you.

now, why should YOU ship sonatchet? it's simple: the franchises have so much in common. now, sonic fans, when i say, an anthropomorphic creature has to stop the evil capitalist baddie from taking over the world with his little buddy, smart as a whistle. along the way, he grinds rails, he follows his own path, not exactly good, but certainly heroic. he does this all with an absolutely brilliant soundtrack. and yeah, maybe the more recent games haven't been so good, writing and gameplay-wise, but hey, we're getting back on track.

what i have just described to you is ratchet and clank. initially created a year after everyone's golden child of sonic games, sa2, by ex-members of sonic team, ratchet and clank has been a vital part of my upbringing, more so than sonic has. for me, sonic is a more recent thing. i've been a fan since i was 5. when did i become a fan of r&c, you may ask? well, my first memory is my dad playing it in front of me, to give you an idea. i couldn't walk or speak properly, sat in a high chair, presumably eating soggy toast, one half marmite and the other of bovril. but, by that point, i was used to the experience - i can't even remember the first time i watched him play.

for any sonic fans who havent yet got the gist, imagine shadow the hedgehog (2005) with good writing that sounds like how actual people speak and less goofy weapons. edginess for the sake of humour rather than for edginess. oh also there is actual genocide in r&c1 quick heads up.

so, r&c fans, with it being far more mainstream, you're probably well aware of the overlap between the two franchises. hell, most of you reading probably are sonic fans. so, of course, i probably wont have to explain sonic in ratchet and clank terms. i want to but i wont. at the end of the day, all you need to know is that sonic is a hedgehog who runs fast and is kinda like ratchet.

THE DIFFERENCES

ratchet LOVES weapons, with the vast arsenal being one of the main selling points of r&c1/sonic is known for spin dash

ratchet canonically has negative rizz (though i believe has had canon love interests iirc?)/sonic is attractive to almost everyone

ratchet has explored multiple galaxies/sonic has only explored a single planet and the odd space station

sonic is probably more likely to do the right thing

sonic is a giant environmentalist, literally has befriended nature/ratchet cares more about saving people than planets, unless it's an actual planet blowing up. like, the planet will cease to exist from quark's super laser piss or something

all of this ties together to create the wonderful ship we call sonatchet, a real and true yearning across franchises. truly, god made them in different game studios because he knew they would be unstoppable as canon lovers.

for any sonic fans wanting a really good comparison, id say the best i can give you is sonadow with a sonknux dynamic? though, not entirely. obviously, if there were a comparable ship, i wouldn't bother tagging in another guy from a completely seperate franchise, so please, please, understand the joys of sonatchet.

i think he mostly says "ain't" but he DOES say isn't. i mean. the man's a poet and a writer and he writes songs. i think it depends mostly on the tone. he mostly will like, say "this is NOT the time to be messing around". generally speaking he is... very frazzled person. they'll do that thing that's like they're laughing but it sounds seconds away from turning into crying.

very eccentric for no reason. last i saw his latest streaming look irl is... chroma green classes. lime green fingerless fishnet gloves. his usual green tanktop (which will probably turn into a hoodie soon if it hasnt already) . and thats WITHOUT mentioning his props and Beetlejost just. very theater kid

he CAN take control of a situation but he usually avoids it. for example ! he single handedly saved Hermitcraft from only being one season. when GenerikB left and no one else really stepped up, Joe found the seed, organized the date, updated the server, invited Cleo because god damn it if he's doing this he's inviting a friend. and then once the ball got rolling he siad he wouldn't do it again and luckily did Not have to become head admin, though what a funny world it would be if he did.

related, when he still had admin powers, and i DONT know what season this was but i think after that he didn't let himself be given it anymore, he...accidentally cleared his entire inventory .

so he normally lets other people take control, you'll see him in a lot of the major events being kinda quiet and letting other people talk and only adding small comments and his off-handed jokes and references half the people dont react too and he's just . vibing

i havent been able to watch a stream in MONTHS and all his streams are mostly just..extended episodes. since he uses them to record his videos in, so its that and also fun behind the scenes song writing nad mishaps.

tldr

-vocabulary is situational. casual: ain't, isn't. stressed: is not.

-startles kinda easily and in the face of CRAZY STUFF or something bad happening, is VERY rarely angry. gamer rage does Not exist within him. his reaction is usually cry-laughing. throwback to that clip of him losing a BUNCH of diamonds in lava to a trap by Jevin, when he was trying to give those diamonds to Jevin. that was season 6 demise.

-roundabout explanations for why he's doing something the most inefficient way possible. (no diamonds season 7)

-taking things entirely literally in the most stubborn way possible. i cannot give you any good explanation just... watch a stream and watch him interact with chat for like half an hour and you'll understand. "why is your face in your hotbar?" "because anywhere else and it would be hard to see"/"why is your face on the screen" "where else would it go?" and then sometimes. when someone will ask a serious and legitimate question he'll still answer it in a sarcastic but matter-of-fact way that you cannot tell if he genuinely misunderstood or if it's a joke. again hard to give explanations

Lighthouse Beam: Sokka’s breathtakingly beautiful and he’s smart and makes other people laugh. Zuko has a half-burnt face and a deaf ear. It’s not rocket science. Or, Zuko falls in love with the boy in his Philosophy class.

🍑: I really like college/highschool AUs and even more zukka fics where Sokka is actually described to be smart. Sokka is one of the smartest characters in the whole show Idk why he's been branded as a dumb, dense character by the fandom. Anyways, loved that this fic had Zuko being the one to fall first as-well.

In the Soft Light: As the newly appointed cultural liaison to Northern Water Tribe, Zuko is the first Fire Nation Citizen to step foot inside the city's walls in nearly a century. He's determined to prove himself—to the Fire Lord and to his father—even if the Water Tribe's spirit-touched prince seems to want nothing to do with him. Or Moon Spirit Sokka AU.

🍑: Enjoy this authors' writing style, really engages me in the story. Also ahhhh fanfic based on my moon spirit Sokka... im very grateful 😭. I didn't include this one in an ask about moon spirit sokka au cause I hadnt known about it at the time but now I reread it whenever I can.

7 Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have): How Zuko and Sokka collided through ill advised means—or approximately seven (7) acts—is beyond them. In just a year, they will trudge through the unorthodox conquests of youth (see #2: The Late Acquisition of 2 gallons of Arizona Peach Iced Tea) or capitalist schemes (#5: Bought A $4,550 Jacuzzi). But how they manage to Allow Aang to Become Vegan (#1), Host The Mr. Teen Universe Contest (#7) and, um, Set The Classroom on Fire—Again (#6) to eventually fall for each other, is still a mystery to them.

🍑: Although this one hasn't been updated in almost a year, the 2 chapters that are posted is some of the most fun I've had reading a fanfic! I admire the coding put into it so that it has a creative, unique structured. Also cute little things like the scrap paper or the scrollable email box (which blew my mind when I first saw it, I didn't even know it was possible to code something like that) just engaged me more in the writing.

Kiss Me To Just Shut Me Up: Zuko proffers the card, and Sokka takes it, their fingers brushing. Sokka tries to cover up the way he shivers at the contact by turning the card over and squinting at the text written on the front. Zuko Sozin. Tattoo Artist. The Jasmine Dragon. A single dragon curls around the characters in red ink. — There's a new tattoo and piercing shop on Ember Island Beach.

🍑: Oh beau... you're so multitalented. This was the fanfic I was recommending to everyone that bought a zukka print from me at cons like I had no shame I just wanted everyone to read Beau's amazing work. And you all should read it if you havent yet.

Five Times Zuko Wanted to Die (and One Time He Didn't): “Sorry about that,” the voice says, and suddenly the curtain has been pushed aside, and Zuko is speechless. “What can I help you with?” He stares. “Um— ” The boy has to be around his age, he’s sure of it. He’s got the most perfect tan face Zuko has ever seen, with blue eyes so brilliant it’s hard to form words. Or the college-age AU in which Sokka fixes watches, Zuko struggles through engineering, and everyone's nervous about the cute boy from the jewelry shop.

🍑: Modern settings fics that aren't like cafe/barista AUs are kind of hard to find (or at least ones that I like cause im picky) so I was surprised to see this one! Again it's an enjoyable fic where Zuko is smitten first and Sokka is not written as dumb. I also remember wanting to draw fan art (one of the scenes) so maybe I'll go dig that sketch up and finish it.

At the Top of the World: Zuko is sent in disgrace to Alaska's Northern coast to ensure nothing stands in the way of Sozin Oil Company’s new offshore drilling project. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make his father see he’s worthy, even if it means fighting against the one person he's met who actually seems to give a damn about him.

🍑: I'll never shut up about this fic, its beautifully written, well paced and realistic characterizations. As an Indigenous person this fanfic tackled Indigenous struggles better than any other fanfics I've read so far and it shows the author did their research. ATLA fandom tends to sweep aside Katara and Sokka's indigenous identity a lot. It's even more frustrating when most fics acknowledge colonialism and racism and yet brush aside Indigenous discussions or theory because they're either scared of touching the topic or don't care. Even fics that do mention their Indigenity is brushed aside with surface level discussions you can tell the author is just parroting from whatever twitter thread they skimmed. Im definitely not saying that fanfic should be an educator for social political issues or that it should be written in a way that it could replace theory for whoever stumbles upon it. Im just baffled that so many authors will mention colonialism only to explore it's effects on Zuko and not the actual Indigenous characters.......... that's all.

if you’re looking for a romcom

Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo (2020): one of my top dramas of 2020, sakura nanase becomes a nurse after helping save someone with tendo kairi. she melts his heart and its so cute i can vomit (on viki)

Rinko-san wa Shite Mitai (2021): this may be my 2022 drama of the year, its short, its on viki, and its about how rinko presents herself as a “perfect” woman, but has been single her whole life. she ends up entering a friends with benefits relationship with fellow forever single co-worker kamisaka gen and i do not know how this drama expected to convince me that man was a virgin bc i was screaming the whole time. its def an Adult drama so minors beware lmao but god its great even if the last few episodes felt rushed

Ashi Girl (2017): time travel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a zoe @storge rec but now im gonna watch it bc of time travel (beloved). yui travels back in time and meets a hagi clan boi, but when she goes back to history class she finds out his clan is going to be wiped out, and does her best to save him

Jimi ni Sugoi! Koetsu Garu Kono Etsuko (2016): this may be on viki in some regions and is another zoe rec! kouno etsuko joins a publishing company wanting to be a fashion editor, but becomes a proofreader instead, and the drama follows as she begins to realize the allure of the profession and prob follows in love with a coworker as well but i have not watched this

Shanai Marriage Honey (2020): a contract marriage so yall know im gonna watch this eventually but a zoe rec!! miura manatsu and haruta ami meet on a dating app and decide to get married for various reasons, unaware that they’re actually coworkers. i can imagine the shenanigans already tbh

Cherry Magic (2020): if you havent watched cherry magic you’ve made a mistake and should fix it immediately. thx.

Kieta Hatsukoi (2021): if you havent watched kieta hatsukoi you’ve made a mistake and should fix it immediately. thx.

Black Cinderella (2021): its a lex rec @machikeita! kamiya manah childhood dream was to enter a beauty pageant, and in doing so meets two boys, one handsome and self absorbed and the other a transfer student.

Koi wa Deep ni (2021): completely head empty romcom about an oceanographer trying to stop a company from building a resort on the ocean

I Don't Love You Yet (2019): its a lex rec! mitarai yo is a successful career women but lacks in the love department. she and her best friend ishida ren make a bet seeing who can fall in love and get married within the next year, and whoever loses must pay the winner 300,000 yen. this sounds like friends to lovers at its fucking finest.

Love Is Phantom (2021): its a lex rec! another shorter time drama that seems ~ steamy ~ minors beware lmfao. strangers hirasawa momoko and hase kei meet on the observation deck of the hotel where momoko works and i’m sure what follows is a lot of making out!!!

if you’re looking for a slice of life

Neechan no Koibito (2020): possibly my new favorite japanese drama, momoko has to raise her three younger brothers after their parents die when she is in high school. the drama mostly covers her workplace, but presents a great family relationship and healing, growth, and communication in her newfound romantic relationship with yoshioka manato

Nijiiro Karute (2021): kureno masora is a budding young doctor when illness strikes, and she decides to work at a countryside clinic where she can more easily hide her illness. its a wonderful story that deals with chronic illness not only in our mc, but in side characters, and shows different types of relationships through main and side character interactions. NO ONE DIES but like. you will cry.

Rokuhodo Yotsuiro Biyori (2022): i think this is on netflix and viki?? maybe one??? idk but its food porn Galore and its about a found family running a bistro where they basically help people relax via food. theres a lil bit of family drama but overall just a really nice relaxing drama

Damena Otoko ja Dame Desu ka? (2022): its a lex rec! follows the hijinks when gonta, a tokyo man ends up switching bodies with katsuyo, a grandma living in the countryside.

Tonari no Kazoku wa Aoku Mieru (2018): its a lex rec and its also on my plan to watch! tonari focuses around an apartment complex, and three different families as they deal with everything life throwa at them.

if you’re looking for mystery/suspense/revenge

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (2017): adapted from a manga and on netflix as erased, satoru gains the ability to travel back in time and tries to stop a kidnapping that occurred when he was in elementary school

Enjiya (2021): this is Technically a revenge drama because the found family runs a service where they complete tasks for people, and tbh just so much found family. 10/10. also super short and super good and i desire so much more from this drama

Ouroboros (2015): ryuzaki ikuo and danno tatsuya grew up together in an orphanage, and witnessed the murder of their older-sister figure, but were ignored by police. ikuo is now a detective, and tatsuya is now a leading figure in the underworld. working together, they try and unveil who murdered their sister and expose the organization behind it.

Unnatural (2018): my love of the tv show bones as a youngin makes me love any type of medical examiner show but unnatural is Truly great and tackles as the synopsis says, “its main theme is the change of reality brought upon by imminent death of a loved one.”

Code Blue (2008): this is like the quintessential old medical drama about five doctors training to become doctor heli doctors, where they’re sent out via helicopter to areas quickly that an ambulance may not be able to reach. i marathoned this series and if you’re like me and love medical dramas this really hits the spot

Hakozume: Tatakau! Koban Joshi (2021): its a lex rec! follows rookie police officer mai, who works in a police box in a rural town. she is thinking about quitting before meeting seiko, a former ace detective who has been sent to the police box. the two team up to take care of their rural town.

Oretachi wa Abunakunai ~ Cool ni Saboru Keijitachi (2020): its a lex rec! follows two procrastinating detectives as they try and solves cases but get into nonsense bc they’re focusing on the non-investigating parts of the job.

Talio Fukushu Daiko no Futari (2020): i’ve only watched the first ep so does this belong here Who Knows but talio is about a lawyer and a conman teaming up to get justice and its @mostlyfate‘s fave drama so don’t take my word for how good it is take theirs LOL

Kounodori (2015): revolves around an obgyn facility, and doesn’t just focus on the doctors, but also the trials of pregnancy and how it effects new parents. its a great drama and covers issues that most other medical shows won’t touch

if you are brave and want to watch an asadora (but please do):

an asadora is a morning drama in japan. episodes are 15 minutes long, and shown in the morning every day of the week (or almost every day of the week). they range from about 120-150 episodes, but because of their length, in reality you’re only watching about 32-36 full hour length episodes (i think my math could be wrong). asadoras typically cover a hero or heroines full life, and deal with family, work, and whatever else is thrown their way

Okaeri Mone (2021): every single person who watched forecasting love and weather you were watching the WRONG weather drama bc this is it yall. this is it. momone (aka mone) is from a small island, and after high school begins working in an inland big city, where she eventually falls in love with weather forecasting (and a hot doctor). this drama mostly follows mone and her dedication to helping people through the weather, but it does cover some family members and her family friends, as well as the repercussions an old typhoon still has on the residents of kesennuma bay. this is a modern day set asadora, with the timeline catching up to 2021.

Natsuzora (2019): screaming crying throwing up watching okaeri mone and natsuzora back to back was a mistake bc they were the asadora standard and idk how anything will ever beat them tbh. natsuzora begins after the end of the second world war, and natsu (or heroine) is orphaned, along with her siblings, after her father dies in the war and her mother dies in a bombing attack. she begins living her with her fathers friend, who is a dairy farmer, and is originally planning to take over the farm before she decides to take her destiny in her own hands and moves to tokyo to become an animator. this is honestly a lovestory to the beginning of animation at its core, and the story revolves around natsu, her foster family and friends back home, as well as biological brother and the family she creates in tokyo. 10/10. fucking love this drama. the subs are messed up for the last two? weeks, but you torrent the subs for the last week and sync them to the raws. the drama starts right around 1946 and covers into the late 70′s? i could be incorrect with the dates but it covers the showa era.

if you’re even BRAVER and made it this far and want to watch toku:

did you watch power rangers of child? confused why some of the scenes looked out of place?? thats bc the footage is taken from super sentai. super sentai and kamen rider are basically 30 minute long 50 episode length shows that are just advertisements for kids toys yet somehow have made me cry harder than any other show <3 it can be daunting bc theres so many seasons so these are just my opinions on where to start

Gokaiger (2011): it’s a anniversary season, and they were able to get So Many older actors back for the episodes corresponding to their seasons. it has baby yamada yuki, ot6 pirates, and its a great way to gauge what other seasons you want to watch that are older than gokaiger. gokaiger is what made me watch magiranger (banging 10/10)

Lupinranger vs Patranger (2018): its thieves vs cops but tbh the cops are always on the backburner (sorry pats it is what it is). also the reds are in love with each other (they kissed in the liveshow we’re not making it up!!!)

Kamen Rider Fourze (2011): kamen rider and sentai air together, and this was gokaigers pair. its a glee ripoff in terms of sterotypes, but its literally 10x better. featuring a baby fukushi sota and yoshizawa ryo fourze is literally about utilizing the power of friendship to defeat boomers. 10/10

*crashes in here* ok ik i havent been here in a bajillion years and i am so sorry for that and unloading a small novel on you dgkdgkh

but i had the dumbest thought. imagine tryna teach the sanderson's modern stuff. cuz i just saw a selfship post that said something along the lines of studying with your fo (fictional other. like a significant other, but its a fictional character instead of an actual human sgshdh) and now all i can think about is attempting to teach winnie, mary, and sarah all the stuff ive learned over the years

im not sure who'd find which subjects the most interesting. i dont have any art textbooks but i do have some notes from art history and waaayyy too many art supplies and i'd be happy to teach mary and sarah about art history and how to use some of the things i have (assuming i remember how to use thems). i think winnie would be fascinated by science! theres some branches of it like chemistry that feel a lot like magic, but i.... dont have access to things like that nor the smarts to even attempt to do chem (i do have access to vids so theres that at least), so it'd be hard to teach her that. i do have some anatomy and biology books that i think she'd like, and i have so many space books and i am dying to share them with all three of them holy dhit.

as for history, i think all three of them would be fascinated by it. theres been so many things that have happened since they died the first time around as well as so much that happened before they were born or happened when they were young but on the other side of the world.

plus, maybe some of what im talking to them about would help stick in my own brain easier so thats a bonus!

I am SO SORRY I'm answering this right now, but the past few weeks have been hectic to say the least 😭 I started Swedish clases lol.

Anyway YES I AGREE Mary but Sarah especially would be so interested in art methinks. Actually I believe Sarah is interested in fashion in some way (I hc that she made her own clothes and helped make Winnie's gown). And YES Winnie is so woman in STEM to me 😩 however I failed Chemistry every single year of high school lol BUT I was top of my class on Biology 😎 and actually think Sarah and Mary would be interested in Biology, although for different reasons (one for cooking and the other well... torture 😅).

OH YEAH HISTORY THAT'S SO FUN I think maybe they have an interest in different eras, Mary is definitely more of a contemporary girl (the way she picks up modern slang??? Scary). Winnie might be obsessed with the British Royal Family ngl 😭 I wonder what she'll think of Princess Diana. Now Sarah I'm not sure what she would enjoy from History 🤔 I mean ig fashion history or something idk 😭😭😭

ALSO ACTUALLY I REMEMBER WATCHING AN ALCHEMY VIDEO and it's pretty much Chemistry so. I think Mary would enjoy Chemistry too but maybe a different branch. Medicinal Chemistry perhaps? While Winnie is more of a Environmental Chemistry girl (since she literally can shoot lightning from her fingers I wouldn't be surprised she wanted to make a contraption to... Idk shoot fire as hot as the fucking sun)

Cyberpunk Edgerunners: David Martinez: Shadow of the Special

So if you havent watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (Go watch it)

This here is our Main Protagonist. David Martinez.

Looks like your typical 17 year old punk prep wannabe.

But in truth there is much more than meets the eye.

Son of Gloria, an EMT and single mother that is busting her butt to send him to Arasaka academy so that way he could climb the corporate ladder and get out of the slums.

After a car accident thanks to some thugs, his mother ended up dying and with only a piece of tech that he found in his apartment, had to find a way to make a living. He ends up getting recruited by Maine's crew and becoming an edgerunner.

What occurs is a turbulent year in which David finds love, gets upgraded with enough tech to make him closer to an android than a cyborg, and caught in a tech war between Arasaka and Militech.

But thats just some background. Now I discuss what makes David a Shadow of the special.

(Spoilers below

What do I mean by Shadow?

I think one way of describing it is more or less letting oneself copy another's mannerisms, goals, motivations, and/or philosophy. Whether the individual is equal, better or worse at it doesnt matter. What matter's is that they acclimate it to themselves.

Now I know the argument that is going to be "But David has his own personality dreams and mindset and..." Now I am going to stop you right there. David does have a personality, but he doesnt have his own dreams. Which you will see soon enough.

Shadow of his Mother

David spent his life raised by his mother and before the events of the show, was a Straight A student that was brilliant but had a pension for some shady tech.

He had no interest in being a "Corpo" basically a corporate employee and was only attending the school because his mother dream was for him to succeed. Or specifically "Make it to the top of Arasaka tower"

Now kids are often shaped by their environment and their parents. Now despite the hardships, David was doing great in school in terms of grades. Though faulty tech and him trying to steer clear of spending money (Which was to help not burden his mother). Caused him to get into trouble.

Now David almost gets expelled over glitching the classroom environment and his mother reinforces her dream for him. His one time saying he would drop out of school to get a job was swept away immediately. His idea or goal was dismissed. Unfortunately thats the last thing he hears from his mother because she gets mortally wounded from an accident. Despite surgery, she didn't have the coverage that probably would have saved her life. (Trauma team could have saved her but due to not being a 'Policy holder') she and David were basically left to die.

After his mother passed, David was left with all her bills and debts. He dawns her EMT jacket and wears it for most of the series.

This was when David had to try and find a means of providing for himself. Thus becoming a shadow of his mother.

Shadow of Katsuo

So during this rather painful time, a piece of garbage and son of an exec Katsuo Tanaka bullied David. Katsuo had beaten his ass with his tech upgrades that gave him fast martial art moves. After which he mocked his upbringing and called his mom a whore for money.

And one would think that this brat would ease up after hearing David's mother passed. Nope, dude calls him up to mock the way his mother died. This is what pushed David too far.

David took the Sandevistan as an "Upgrade" taking advice from his bully. Which then resulted in David assaulting him during class, now that David was on the front foot. David had Left the shadow of his mother and decided that he would get payback. Using his power to take whats his.

As much as people and he himself would argue want to disagree, this is the case. But thankfully this is very brief.

Shadow of Lucy

So this one is less of him emulating Lucy and more pursuing her. Meeting her when she was on the train pickpocketing (cyberpunk style) anyone affiliated with Arasaka.

She quickly takes him in with a 70/30 split. Basically her 'Training him'. He starts following her lead and when she pulls him from the scalper he starts falling in love with her.

Lucy then tells him about her dream of going to the moon, something he originally saw as dumb until she shared the VR experience which made him enjoy the trip.

Of course this part does lead into where Derek starts to truly become a shadow of someone and thats...

Shadow of Maine

This is the leader of the group of Edgerunners, and as soon as he is introduced his impact on David is clear.

Maine was suppose to be the one to get the Sandevistan that David had equipped to himself. Now David finds out that his mom was helping these guys out by smuggling tech, which was how she got the funds for things outside of her EMT job.

Maine decides to give David a chance to prove himself and sure enough, has him join the crew.

We see David view Maine as a father figure, asking for jobs, guidance, even talking with him for advice.

Maine became his new guide in this new life. David even said he wanted tech similar to Maine's. Which Maine agreed he could have if he croaked.

After Maine's death, David ends up taking charge for the year and he is compared to Maine. Even getting very similar cybernetics (and having the same reaction when they were spiraling with Cyberpsychosis)

David even lead the group like Maine would, and even tried to mentor a newbie, like Maine did for him. Giving the kid a "Fair shake".

Though unlike Maine, he wasnt as good at keeping new recruits alive.

Lucy points out that David is still not living his own life, living with expectations and goals others had for him.

But David does outgrow Maine and becomes the shadow of someone else.

Shadow of Adam Smasher

David's affinity for cyber implants was considered amazing, which was why he was able to actually able to use the Sandevistan. And after being an Edgerunner for a year, with his amount of chrom, The doc even called him "Adam Smasher 2.0"

A statement of how "Special" David was. And when he got that new exoskeleton (a set up by Militech) in order to test out his cyber affinity. Arasaka sent Adam Smasher to deal with him when he was heading towards them.

Adam and David clashed, Adam thinking David was a punk way over his head that thought he was special. While David said he was and their fight was... pretty one sided.

Adam basically ripped through David like butter.

David realized that he wasnt going to be able to beat him, and decided to buy time so the remainder of his team could actually escape.

It was in this moment David stepped out of the shadow of Adam. Now not just trying to achieve the goals of others, or even a selfish desire to get stronger, but to protect Lucy. The one he loved. Getting her the money to take her to the moon, though he wouldnt be able to join her.

Adam beat him down and David was left ripped up. Though Adam actually showed respect and said he would make a good construct. (Basically another like him).

But instead of accepting it, David said "Get f***ed Choom"

Which Adam then ended his life.

For most of the series, David was always a shadow of what someone expected him to be or the shadow of someone he admired. And he was a talented young man, someone you could say had a special talent. But he didnt have his own personal dreams or goals and ended up copying those around him.

But only in his final moments, when he took his life in his own hands and did things his way did he finally become true to who he is.

He was a shadow of the special, not special in his own right. but thats what makes him so fascinating and tragic
