Whew shit it aggravates the hell outta me how much recognition non black ppl felt they were entitled to for pRoTeStInG police brutality that specifically targets black ppl — by only acting on performative upset around George Floyd's murder. Yet Makiyah Bryant was literally murdered by a white police officer as they were reading Chauvin's verdict for killing Floyd & yall haven't said too much at all. The same performative & self-proclaimed activists haven't said a word ab this fr.
The same ppl who were (& still are) walking around w/ a chip on their shoulder ab buying fucking totes, t-shirts, wristbands & face masks that say "Africa" or "Black Lives Matter" or "Say Their Names" — haven't said or so much as put any comparable energy into demanding justice for Makiyay Bryant, Breonna Taylor, or any Black Woman or underage Black Girl killed by white people for that matter. Its like yall felt like, "well all thats finally over; guess police brutality & police officers murdering black ppl isn't a thing anymore or something we should keep protesting after things cool down; we've done 'our part'. 🙄Yall make me fucking sick the way yall showed up & out in international droves for Floyd; the way yall created & pushed hashtags for that grown ass man who OPENLY shit on Black Women (the largest & most signigicant demographic who was out there demanding answers & justice for his murder itfp).
An autistic, black child was killed by the same kind of people who murdered Floyd; working in the same "profession". She was killed by a fucking police officer in the midst of being harassed by kids her age who were bullying her to a point where her hand was forced & she sought out the police to intervene. & they killed her like she didn't mean a damn thing. Yall are silent ab it like she didn't mean a damn thing. Yall literally just went back to your regular lives, obsessing over absolute billshit & living on the internet like it didn't matter at all. Like, "Well we did all that for Floyd. Dont have the energy to do it for anyone else Black; particularly Black Women/Girls."
Where is yall energy for this?? Idk if yall realize but the way this shit reflects, it looks like Americans (& ppl from other countries that participated in the protesting for Floyd) only give a fuck ab black lives if cishet black males are the focus — & that's so fucking disrespectful. Yall are seriously ok w that child being taken from her family? Her mother? Her siblings if she had any??? What ab her dreams? What ab what she wanted to do w her life in spite of all the shit she was going thru being fucked w for being autistic? Do yall give any sort of fucks? Do yall give a damn at all? Just be real ab it. Bc this didn't just happen to Makiyah. This isn't something that's happend to just one black girl before.
This is happening more often than most care to consider fr. In fact, the perpetual concern ppl are brainwashed to have for white women being potentially unrealistically sex-trafficked, sexually abused/assaulted, kidnapped/abducted — happens way more prevalently to black women & little Black girls all over the globe. White women have international protection since they are pushed as a forced international standard & ideal anyway. Black women are not at all a protected demographic. Anywhere in the world. And black men are # fucking 1 in our assailant normalcy — yet everyone gives them all the exclusive consideration when it comes to crimes against the Black Community by non blacks & blacks alike. Fucking tired of yall fr, on everything. Yall let that child die in vain & still ain't got off yall asses to do or say anything ab it the way yall were committed to doing it for Floyd. You should be ashamed. You should be embarrassed.
Idc what you think you did out there for Floyd if you didn't do the same for Makiyah. Or Breonna. Or any Black women among the thousands of names mentioned among the "Say Their Names" outcry. Yall didn't do a damn thing but keep a hashtag trending through the summer last year. Yall give no real fucks & im glad I wasn't giving yall too much credit for doing the bare minimum, cus looking at how "concerned" yall are now, it truly was a minimum. Fuck yall. George Floyd was a grown ass man. Did all that active disapproval of someone killing his ass & then turn yall back on black women asap.
That he spent any part of his life as a black male being & acting on misogynoir — just to cry out for his Black Mother at the peak of his suffering & death, is ironic; almost funny considering how he likely wouldn't have protested for the unreasonable murder of black women himself. Yall desperately need to get your fucking priorities together, cus a lot of yall too damn grown to be this stupid & have attention spans this short. Yall just be expecting black women's support on any & everything — even if it don't make sense or if it puts us in harm's way. Then do absolutely nothing for us when circumstances absolutely more than demand it. Im done supporting these lame ass causes for ppl who don't do shit for Black women even when we do it for yall. Most of the time the majority of you don't even open your mouth ab black women lest its to degrade or defeminize them so yea its p clear to me where the majority of you truly stand unfiltered on issues around our safety & wellbeing.
I'm good. There is no poc solidarity; there is no progression or inclusion in speaking up for races who are not black as a black person — esp not as a black woman. Im quite done w the vast majority of ppl & giving a fuck ab things i cannot — but that other races of ppl v well can — control (regarding our mistreatment). I will not be speaking on this blog ab anything that does not pertain specifically & exclusively to issues within or injustices committed against the Black community. I do not have the energy or interest; just like yall don't ab us. Fuck yall, fuck your problems (cultural & personal), & fuck you being mad ab it if at all. Do not care. Black Women & Little Black Girls do not deserve the blatant disregard & neglect yall habitually subject us to for absolutely nothing. You will not get empathy from this black woman on this shit, period.

Dog of the Military- Chapter 15
Chapter 15- Morning Courtmartial
And as usual... the ko-fi link, if you like the trash I, a human dumpster fire, product https://ko-fi.com/fluffykitty12
Roy Mustang showed up outside the dorms at 8:30am sharp. It was 8:37 when Edward came racing down the stairs, in his military blues with a large suit of armor clanking hurriedly behind him.
Ed fairly dove into the passenger seat, with Alphonse squeezing into the entirety of the backseat, and Ed turned to look at Mustang like he was possessed. "Drive!"
"Put your seat belt on." Roy said, giving him a look.
Ed frantically did so, and Roy was heading over to central command.
"Shit are we gonna be late? I couldn't find a hair tie that wasn't red I didn't know what the military regulations were so I transmuted it black." Ed's hair wasn't in its trademark braid- rather, it was in a high ponytail behind him. His uniform was a little rumpled, and his collar was a mess, but these were all things that could be fixed.
"Calm down. We're not going to be late, but we won't be able to stop and grab breakfast like I planned either, so you'll have to hold out til lunch." Roy remarked.
Ed nodded, seeming to calm down slightly at this.
"Are you doing okay?" Roy shot his youngest subordinate a look.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Ed said, nodding. Though there wasn't too much belief behind the statement.
"I'm going to be so nervous, waiting upstairs in the office to hear what's going on." Al piped up from the back.
"Try not to worry too much, Alphonse- the team will be watching the proceedings, and they'll come upstairs periodically under the guise of a break to update you."
"Alright." Alphonse seemed to settle for the moment. Edward's leg kept bouncing nervously, and they pulled up outside central command at ten minutes to nine. They parted ways, with Alphonse heading upstairs and Roy and Ed heading towards the courtroom, deeper on the first floor of Central command.
The hallways were busy with people in all sorts of military blues- Ed's eyes widened as he saw everyone assembled. Roy placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, steering him into the men's room just outside the courtroom.
"Do you have to go?" he asked, giving the boy a once-over.
Ed shook his head. "No. Why are we in here, anyways?"
"Because you were getting overwhelmed and I need to touch up your uniform." Roy said calmly. He started with the boy's long military jacket, smoothing out the wrinkles and straightening the boy's rank pins. He moved up to Ed's collar next, folding it down properly, before looking at Ed's hair- he wet his hands in the sink and smoothed down Ed's trademark blond antenna, before nodding and standing up straight. "Much better. You look like quite the solider, Fullmetal."
"Yeah. Now if only I could feel like one. Brigadier General Basque Grand was out there." Ed muttered to himself, looking down at his boots.
"A lot of high profile people are here, Ed. This trial has ruffled some feathers, I'm not gonna lie. But how you carry yourself in there- how you think and behave- will affect how you're treated."
"They'll just look at me like a kid anyways."
"Stop it." Mustang hissed, using two fingers to tilt Edward's chin up so the boy was looking him in the eyes. "I know you're nervous, and you have a right to be, but self pity and doubt have no place here, Edward."
Roy reached down into Edward's pocked, putting out the boy's state alchemist watch and dangling it in front of him. "You are the Fullmetal Alchemist. I watched you put blood sweat and tears into earning this watch. You are a prodigy- you have seen atrocities and come back eager to live on anyways. You are a soldier under my command. I didn't give you this watch. You earned it. You could kick the asses of nearly everyone in that court room, save myself and a few others, without a problem. So you act like it- you look them in the eyes and you tell them everything. I need you to trust me, Edward- if you testify to the best of your abilities, he'll be found guilty. I promise."
Ed looked up at him- eyes that were swimming with uncertainty becoming hard with determination and purpose. The fire was burning bright again, and Ed pursed his lips and nodded. "Alright."
"Don't forget- you're the Fullmetal Alchemist, Hero of the People. Make them remember that."
"I will."
They both turned, exiting the restroom and striding into the courtroom, down the aisles and to their side of the benches. Their court appointed lawyer, Marissa Jennings, was a pretty woman in military blues with dark hair and brown eyes- she nodded to Mustang as they found their seats behind their table. Ed hadn't met the woman, but Roy had had countless meeting with her over the past two weeks to prepare, and he was very familiar with her.
On the other side of the courtroom, behind the small table sat Colonel Banks and Lieutenant Shaw, and the defendant's lawyer, an older, be speckled man in his sixties eith salt and pepper hair and a gray goatee.
Before both tables was the Judge's desk on an elevated platform, and to the left was the bleachers for the jury- a group of about twelve. Behind the tables where the prosecuting and defending parties sat, there was a small wooden railing and benches for spectators to watch.
Roy noted Basque Grand sitting behind Colonel Bank's side of the courtroom, as well as a smattering of unfamiliar soldiers. Banks had clearly brought his men as well.
But it was no match for Ed's side of the courtroom. Havoc, Breda, Falman, Furey, Hawkeye, Scheska, Hughes, Armstrong, and several of the receptionists that Ed would help by fixing broken vases and flower pots all sat at the ready. The proceedings were about to being.
The door to the courtroom flew open, and Roy nearly fell out of his chair. Scowling in the doorway, General Olivier Armstrong strode into the room, her sidearm and sword at her side, with Miles beside her, his sunglasses present as always.
She stalked into the room, and it nearly fell silent, before flopping to sit beside her brother, who sat in support of Edward, exhaling harshly through her nose.
"Olivier- so glad you could make it! You hardly ever respond to my letters." Armstrong had started to sparkle.
Olivier scoffed. "Don't flatter yourself. I came here because I was pissed, not because of that sappy letter. This whole torture fiasco happened at Goldenfield- the North is my territory, and when bullshit happens I like to see who's held accountable." She brushed her bangs from her face. Though Roy didn't miss the way she craned her neck to get a look at Edward.
Who knew- perhaps General Armstrong actually cared?
"All rise- the honorable judge Mason Freeman presiding." the baliff barked. The sound of chairs scraping as everyone in the room hurried to stand was the only sound.
The judge- a rather wise looking man in his sixties- strode to his desk with ease, before he was sitting down. "Good morning. At ease, everyone. Let it be noted on the record today the case of Flame vs Banks has begun."
Everyone sat down, and the judge nodded toward Ed's bench.
"We will begin with the charges brought against the accused. Colonel Roger Banks, you have been accused of the unlawful imprisonment and torture of a state alchemist, Major Edward Elric. How does the accused plead?"
"Not guilty, Sir."
The judge nodded. "Very well. We will hear your arguments shortly. For now, let us proceed with the incident reports received, beginning with the mission report from the Fullmetal Alchemist himself. Jennings?"
The woman representing Ed stood up, shuffling papers. "Of course, your honor. On the fifth of September, Major Edward Elric received orders to head north and conduct a covert mission for the Amestrian military. He returned on the morning of September ninth, as planned, but rather than being allowed to return to Central city and report to his commanding officer, the boy was detained, restrained, beaten, and abused. The medical records show Edward received six cigarette burns to the lower left abdomen, a broken rib, a 3 inch laceration on his left bicep requiring 17 stitches, 3 lacerations on his back, from a knife, one of which required an additional twelve stitches to close, a black eye, and severe contusions to the chest. His mistreatment lasted for a day and a half, at which point his superior arrived, discovered the Major's condition, and got the boy medical help. I will now read, verbatim, the mission reports submitted to the court by Edward Elric and Roy Mustang, followed by the Doctor's report regarding Ed's injuries."
The first hour of the court session was the lawyer reading Ed's mission report, then Mustangs, and continuing on with the doctor's report. Ed was rather relieved that he could just sit and listen. It was clear the woman representing them was more comfortable in a courtroom than he was.
"This concludes my report of evidence from the prosecution, your honor." the woman finished.
The judge nodded. "And does the defendant have any evidence which they wish to present?"
The elder lawyer stood. "Yes, Sir. I am presenting the reports of Colonel Roger Banks and Lieutenant Shaw, verbatim."
"The secret mission Edward Elric was sent on was of immense importance for national security. Following our rendezvous, Edward expressed his interest in returning to Central city as soon as possible. I agreed this was the best course of action, but as the boy's superior, righteously demanded that he give his report and findings to me before leaving. Fullmetal adamantly refused, and when repeatedly prompted, answered with blatant disrespect. Had it been a matter of lesser importance, I would've written the boy up and let him go. But due to the immensely sensitive information the boy had, I felt I could not let him leave without reporting to me. It wasn't in the best interests of the nation."
"Following his staunch refusal and obstinence, I disciplined the boy physically, and continued to do so. I am not a man without conscience, but I had to put the good of the nation over the good of one unruly boy. I was nearly to the point of extracting the information when the boy's commanding officer- who identified himself as the Flame Alchemist- trespassed in my office and intimidated my Lieutenant into taking him to see the boy."
"When I attempted to confront the man for his intrusion into my office and blatant disregard for my command, I was brutally assaulted, receiving first degree burns on my hand, and my life threatened if I refused to leave. By the time I felt it prudent to return, the Flame Alchemist and the Fullmetal Alchemist were gone."
Roy frowned at the report.
The lawyer paused, clearing his throat. "Now- onto the incident report of Lieutenant Margaret Shaw, dated October twentieth-"
Roy's hand touched the table the defense lawyer had her paper's spread out, and he shifted in his seat to sit forward a little.
"Objection!" The lawyer was cut off by their lawyer, and everyone looked over at him, even the judge.
"What is the nature of this objection, Jennings?"
"Mr. Elric was reported to have been scheduled to return from his mission on the ninth of October. His commanding officer retrieved him on the afternoon of the tenth of october. The fact that this report was filed so late is likely due to the fact that Lieutenant Shaw wouldn't have filed a report about the imprisonment and abuse of power at all, had it not been for her commanding officer receiving a summons for court martial a few days earlier and covering her tracks."
"This is all speculation, your honor." the elderly defense lawyer protested, moving his glasses further up his nose.
"Jennings, you may continue, but keep it short." the judge advised, looking interested.
"I'd like to know the date Colonel Banks filed his incident report." Jennings asked.
The defense lawyer shuffled his papers. "October nineteenth was the date Colonel Banks filed his report."
"Interesting. So this alleged abuse of power occurs from the ninth to tenth of October, Colonel Banks is assaulted so viciously by the Flame alchemist in the line of duty, and yet despite all of this, he waits nine days to file a report. And his subordinate, who also witnessed such abuse, files her report one day after. Despite the fact that officers are required to file reports of incidents within forty eight hours. It almost seems as though the defendants were scrambling and after receiving their court summons, sat down and put their story together to avoid any gaps and inconsistencies, and then submitted them a day apart."
"My report is my own, Ma'am. While it is true that Colonel Banks and I discussed the matter after receiving our summons, my report was filed directly to central- Colonel Banks never read it." Lieutenant Shaw spoke up.
"I can attest to this, as I notarized the document." the lawyer agreed.
"I see. Still, the timing is awfully convenient. That's all I have to say on the matter, your honor."
The judge nodded. "The defense may continue."
Lieutenant Shaw's report was read verbatim, as well. It didn't contain the blatant falsehoods Colonel Banks had- rather, Shaw had chosen to stick to facts.
"At approximately 9am Edward Elric returned to our fort and expressed a desire to go home after completing his mission. He proceeded to another room with Colonel Banks and I didn't see him afterwards. At approximately 10am, I received a call from the boy's commanding officer, inquiring if Edward had returned as planned. I confirmed that Edward Elric had indeed returned and that he intended to get a train out of central soon."
"In the afternoon, at approximately 1pm, Colonel Banks was stepping out for lunch. I still had not seen Major Elric and inquired if he'd purchased his train ticket home yet, as he seemed eager to do in the morning. Colonel Banks said the boy was resting upstairs before he left, tired from his mission. I noticed the Colonel carrying Elric's black coat and inquired why- he told me he was going to get it cleaned for the boy so he could travel home in comfort."
"At the end of the day, I still had not seen Edward. I stepped into the Colonel's office to say goodnight to my commanding officer, and found him sititng at his desk. On his desk, was Elric's coat, cut into scraps. I asked the Colonel if Edward had left yet. Colonel Banks confirmed my suspicions that Edward was still in the building, but said it was a matter of national security that he get the information from the boy. I was in no position to argue with my superior, so I quietly left. On a hunch, I went downstairs to the cells where unruly citizens are kept and found Major Elric hung from the wall by his wrists, dirty and in some degree of pain. He looked up at me and asked if I was there to burn him as well. I asked him how I could help- he asked me for water. I brought him a mug of it and gave it to him quickly before leaving for the night. I trusted my commanding officer to handle the issue."
"Colonel Banks instructed me to have all questions about the Fullmetal Alchemist's condition forwarded to him. I followed these orders, forwarding the phone inquiry of the Flame Alchemist to Colonel Banks early in the morning. That afternoon, however, when the Flame Alchemist arrived, he was quite agitated, and I thought it prudent to show him to Elric immediately to avoid further conflict. Colonel Banks went to speak to the man and returned with a burned hand a destroyed firearm. After I treated my commanding officer for his injuries, I took the suitcase Elric had left in our fort in the room he'd stayed in previously and dropped it off at the local inn on the hunch they were staying there."
Colonel Banks looked over at Margaret, a bit of disapproval behind his eyes, but not much of it.
"Your honor." Jennings, dark haired and bold as always, spoke up. "I would like to ask Lieutenant Shaw a few more questions."
"In due time, Jennings." the judge frowned, squinting at the courtroom clock. "It's nearly noon. I declare a half hour recess, and then we will reconvene for cross-examination of the involved parties. Adjourned." the judge slammed his gavel down, and the courtroom broke into a flurry of activity as everyone rose to grab lunch.
Team Mustang normally would've gathered in the cafeteria, but since Alphonse was stuck upstairs in the office, they elected to grab food and eat with him. Plus, seeing Ed was likely to ease his mind.
Ed grabbed a ham sandwich as they hurried upstairs.
"Nice job Chief!" Havoc clapped a hand on his shoulder as he sat on Mustang's couch and started to eat. "I don't think I've ever seen you sit still for that long before!"
Ed had to fight the blush creeping up his cheeks.
"How was it, brother? Are you alright?" Al asked.
Ed took a bite of his sandwich. "I'm fine. I didn't have to do much of anything, it was mostly lawyers reading reports and making statements."
"Still, you seem to be making quite the case. The lawyer representing you- Jennings- is on her game." Hawkeye spoke up.
"Yes, she certainly is." Roy conceded. Probably because he'd spent over six hours with her going over the particulars of the case this past week. But still, she was tenacious and on the ball, and Roy liked her.
The door to the office burst open, and Hughes came running in. "Ed! You did great out there! Were you nervous?"
"A little." Ed took another bite of his sandwich and chewed.
"Right." the light reflected off Hughes glasses, showing his seriousness, as he stepped forward. "Well, this afternoon they're going to do the cross examinations. So you'll have to go up on the witness stand and answer questions about your report. Everyone will be watching. So you're going to need to have nerves of steel and think on your feet. They'll do anything they can to make you slip up."
"R-right." Ed was looking nervous.
"I figured you'd be stressed, so I brought some pictures of my darling Elicia to help calm your nerves!" Roy was right back to his fawning father self, pulling out a rather large stack of photos. "Here she is in her footie pajamas, and here she is with her new teddy bear..."
Hawkeye exchanged glances with Roy. They let Hughes ramble on for a few more minutes before Hawkeye was shooing him out of the office.
"You should finish that sandwich up- we have to head back down soon." Roy nodded to Ed, looking at the clock.
"I'm done." Ed said simply, setting down the half-eaten sandwich and standing. Ed hardly ate anything- that meant he was nervous.
Roy placed a hand on his shoulder as they ducked out of the office and headed back towards the courtroom. No matter what was to come in cross examinations- he'd do his best to protect Ed.

Parings: Tommy Shelby x Black Reader
Tumblr media
“Your guest has arrived Mr. Shelby” the waiter says as he places his drink order on the table
“Thank you”
He nods and walks away, seconds later he greets you and Abel upon entering and he bows his head to you
“Your royal highness, Mr. Shelby is waiting for you, right this way”
“Thank you”
He leads both of you to Tommy’s table then asks you for any drink orders, Abel doesn’t want anything but you order a glass of lemonade, once again he bows his head and leaves you all be.
“I wish everyone wouldn’t bow and curtsy to me so much, it’s something I’ve never gotten use to”
“Yes but, you are royalty, they might think that they’ll be seen as disrespectful if they don’t”
“Maybe...still...what about you Mr. Shelby? You seem to be of importance as well, way before your election”
“Ahh, so you know about me?”
“You, and your whole family, it’s Abel’s job to make sure to know whose going be in close contact with the family”
He looks over at Abel standing behind you, he’s glancing over the room every now and then, finally to Tommy when he notices him staring.
“He’s also co head of security and my bodyguard”
“I see, he’s three people in one, I’m impressed, that must be exhausting for him?”
“Not really”
Abel responds in a thick Nigerian accent
“So, Mr. Shelby, may I ask the reason for this meeting?”
“Just to get acquainted better, we didn’t have much time yesterday, the Earl and Countess took up most of your time, and you are to meet with the King and Queen this evening”
“Yes, for dinner, and I’ll be busy the rest of this week as well, visiting hospitals and orphanages, my family just opened one last month, I’m to go and observe everything”
“I’m guessing it’s the one that took in all those African refugee children?”
“Yes, and some local negro children, ones that have been mistreated by some nuns...I heard that one mixed race little girl was forced to wash with a different soap”
“I know, I heard she’s doing well now though, she got adopted by an affluent black family from New York”
“The Morris’s, yes they’re a good family, father is a physician and the mother is a school teacher, been struggling to have any children of their own, but little Caroline was all they needed”
“I’m happy to hear that, you know I have children myself”
“I’m aware, and also married, to a very beautiful woman might I add”
“Thank you”
He looked disappointed in the fact that you knew about Lizzie, he knew that he shouldn’t be surprised since he was informed of the background check being done on him but he was.
“What about you your highness, is there anyone special in your life?”
“You don’t have to call me that all of the time, YN will do, and not at the moment, but I do get a lot of offers”
“Why haven’t you accepted, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“I have no interest in courtships at the moment, and my father especially is very picky about who he sees fit for me, I’m also focused on other matters”
“Such as?”
“Do you always give women you hardly know the third degree?”
He chuckles at your bluntness, you weren’t at all what he was expecting, women of your class were trained to accept just about anything that they didn’t agree with just to keep the peace and keep up a certain image, you clearly didn’t care about such rules, your mother raised you not to be a weak woman, she would give you a good smack for being anyone’s doormat and your grandmother would roll in her grave at you shying away like a scared little child.
“Mr. Shelby I ask you not to compare me to past women whom I do not know, your issues with them have nothing to do with me, I’m not saying that you have to trust me completely but projecting those insecurities onto me won’t get you anywhere”
The waiter from earlier comes back to give you your lemonade, you thank him while digging into your purse to give him a hefty tip, he smiles widely and thank you while bowing his head once again.
Tommy doesn’t have any rebuttal to what you just said, he felt like he just received a free therapy session, he thought long and hard about your response, him actually taking your advice is something only time would tell.
“You’re very generous”
“These people make very little, it’s the least I can do...I hope you’ve done the same”
“Of course”
“Excellent”
About a half hour later you’re ready to head out to get ready for dinner later on, but not before he asks if you’re free for at least an hour this week.
“And why is that?”
“I thought I could show you around Birmingham, my home city, maybe show you some of the horses I own...and if possible, without your guard”
“Unless she’s going to the restroom or undressing, where ever she goes I go”
“He’s correct, and besides, us being alone together wouldn’t be something I would feel comfortable with, after all you are a married man remember, that wouldn’t be a good look now would it?”
Once again he’s silent followed by a clearing of his throat, you are harder to crack than he thought, it was bothering him how much his charm wasn’t phasing you in the slightest
“Well then, have a good evening your highness, it was nice catching up with you”
“Likewise Mr. Shelby”
While you’re walking away you don’t catch Abel smirk in amusement at you turning him down, he almost wanted to laugh but had to stick to being a professional, he would save it for later though.
————————
“Are you honestly surprised that he did, you know how most of them European men are, they love exotic women, they somehow think that our pussies hold some type of magic power, it’s creepy”
You giggle with your cousin Iman on the other end of the phone, she was older than you by five years and was your best friend, you both would go to each other about any and everything, even during serious moments like dinners or government meetings you’d catch one another’s eyes that told everything you couldn’t say out loud, you always admired her extroverted nature and found yourself being coached by her to be more open, it would surely help you in the future if you found yourself living long enough to being queen, she would honestly be a better choice.
“The man is married for heavens sake and an MP, you would think that would make a man of his status be more careful at preventing a scandal”
“Only in a perfect world my dear”
“Yes, you’re correct”
All of a sudden you heard what sounded like a door opening on the other end of the line and Iman’s muffled voice
“I have to go, the in laws have just arrived and I have to go entertain them, goodbye little rabbit”
“Goodbye Iman”
You hang up with a sigh and stretch in the chair, standing up you make your way over to the closet to pick out what you would be wearing in a couple of hours, and that’s when you finally notice, something that everyone you knew thought was destroyed and gone forever, sitting right there on the little table beside the wardrobe.

Black Lives Matter.
Tumblr media
Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to write something in response to the police violence and brutality against Black people that has once again overwhelmed our country. It’s hard to find something new to say when what you’re trying to say is so simple. There isn’t a “hot take” to this issue, nor is there a contrarian opinion.
It’s simple: Black lives have and always will matter. Furthermore, they are essential and worthy; matter is the minimum when you consider the culture, societal, and academic shifts they have created. Yet, for hundreds of years, we have seen this refrain systematically denied through the course of American history. For hundreds of years, young Black men have been lynched and murdered in cold blood at the hands of white Americans leveraging their privilege and place in society to continually oppress black Americans and keep them powerless. Words can’t even begin to scratch the surface of the generations of pain, loss, indignity, disrespect, and hate, which is why choosing to stand on any other side than that of Black Americans is not only problematic, but racist because any other side is actively working to police the anguish of the Black community.
The foundations of our nation were never created to accommodate the livelihood of Black people which is why issues of race continually resurface. Why do we still see the same disgusting events over and over again? Why do we still have to protest? Because the systems at play will never protect the interests of Black Americans. This is why we see Black Americans reacting in the way that they are. They peacefully protested, and everyone said they were disrespecting the country that supposedly gave them so much. They peacefully protested, and Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered. They peacefully protested, and absolutely nothing has changed in the way that America treats its Black citizens because it functions on the manipulation of marginalized people. America would not be America without the exploitation of Black people. They are the reason for why you are able to choose to be political.
For this reason, they are entirely justified in reclaiming the power that American capitalism stole from them through looting and rioting. If you have a problem with this, ask yourself why. Are you uncomfortable with Black people taking ownership of their lives after white people spent centuries asking Black people to stay patient only to sweep their struggles under the rug? Looting and rioting is not ideal. The fact that Black people still have to be on the front lines fighting for their own humanity while simultaneously risking their own lives is it not ideal, however it is an accurate reflection of the society we have created, the society that is supposed to be the most progressive and equitable.
The use of force through riots and looting isn’t designed to hurt people. It’s a manifestation of the years of frustration of feeling like absolutely no one is listening to you. White people have never felt threatened by Black people in America because they know that the power they possess is enough to perpetuate the oppression of Black Americans. What they ARE threatened by is their mobilization and unwillingness to accept the mistreatment, because they know that there is strength in numbers. And to those who have attempted to co-opt Martin Luther King Jr’s message of peaceful protests against the very people MLK sought to protect: stop trying to leverage the voices of Black people to prove a convoluted point. Stop whitesplaining the history that flows through the blood of Black people. It shouldn’t matter to you how Black people choose to voice their frustrations as they are entirely entitled to this and so much more. If they want to burn everything to the ground: so be it. The system is inherently racist anyways and the only way we can see justice is if we abolish racist systems and start all over.
As time after George Floyd and Breonna Taylor’s murders grew, I was worried that publishing something now, after so much time, would be irrelevant. That everyone would’ve moved on already to something new, but if this essay serves any purpose, it’s to remind you that these injustices are happening everyday, and will continue to happen right under our noses as long as we don’t demand systemic change.
The creation of the Black Lives Matter movement came from a place of necessity, and since then its message has been commodified as a way to posture to others that you are not racist, however we cannot allow the movement to be simplified to just a hashtag because it demoralizes those who are directly affected by systemic racism and police brutality. When BLM is simplified to a trend as opposed to a long term movement, people underestimate how long it takes for societal change to happen, and I’m guilty of this as well—hence why I hesitated to write and post this.
Furthermore, the death of Black and Brown people don’t serve to remind or trigger you into anger or frustration. As cell phones and social media have become instrumental in raising awareness to issues that were only visible to those who suffered from them, it has also desensitized many people to the image of dead Black and Brown bodies. Simply the fact that the color of one’s skin determined their death should be enough to enrage people into action, yet now it’s a matter of how gruesome or how sad a story is.
It doesn’t matter whether a Black person had a criminal record or wouldn’t even hurt a fly: the bottom line is that ALL Black lives matter. Comparing certain deaths over others perpetuates harmful notions that Black people are criminals and therefore deserve the racism that they endure.
Of course, the change we seek won’t be fulfilled from electoral politics which is derived from the policies created by racists. The change starts from the people, and we need to begin reclaiming the power that we are meant to have. The politicization of every issue, no matter how non-partisan it truly is, will forever keep us divided as long as we are slaves to the electoral system.
We have to think bigger and collectively realize that our power is greater than just voting, which some may consider useless at this point, but if we dare to imagine a world that is not just equitable for some but for all, a world that isn’t controlled or crippled by militarization, but a world lead by community and acceptance, then we might realize that dream that seems so unrealistic now.

Star Trek Episode 67-69
Elaan of Troyius: So this episode had a secent idea, having an arranged marriage to bring peace between opposing cultures but remain at odds during the voyage with Kirk trying to act as a diplomat between them. Elaan is... not a good character. She’s a spoiled brat who acts disrespectful to Kirk and outright ungrateful and argumenative to everyone. Though at the same time she IS being forced into a marriage that she doesn’t want and no one, not even anyone on the Enterprise, shows any sympathy... but again consideirng her attitude and behavior, she hasn’t given them much reason to. There was a decent idea here with culture clashes and could have gone into things the nuance of these arrangements since they are unfair, but there are reasons why it is that way. But the characters are unlikeable, the plot is nothing special, and the themes of opposing alien cultures was done better in episodes like Journey to Babel. Then they have Kirk put under a love spell... again. Seriously, was that necessary? Or was Kirk making out needed to give the episode something to look forward to? TBF he mostly kept it together and broke out of it without any problems, but still. We don’t need to throw a girl at Kirk to keep the plot spicy, just saying. Not gonna lie though, Spock and McCoy just standing there when they catch them making out and asking him if he’d step out to talk with themfor a moment was pretty funny. They look so displeased, haha! That being said not a great episode, not at all. 2/5.
Whom Gods Destroy: My memory could just be fuzzy after almost 70 episodes, but I think this is the first episode with a shapeshifting antagonist since The Man Trap. Shapeshifting plots are always fun. So Kirk and Spoxk get teapped in an insane asylum where the inmates have taken over. This... really doesn’t reflect well on how mental health is handled. For example the episode begins with saying that they discovered a medicine to cure mental illness. Despite there being various types, and they aren’t something that can just be cured and I doubt that changed in the future. It shows how badly of an understanding we had of it back in the 60’s. It sucks since having an episode about mental illness in different beings and how they are treated/mistreated in professional care could have been interesting. The main villain is an over-acting man child and neithe entertaining nor intimidating. I guess this episode is also where the whole ‘Kirk makes out with green-skinned alien women’ came from... honestly S3 is likely where most ‘Kirk is a womanizing skirt chaser’ comes form cause this season in particular really enjoys the ‘throw women at Kirk’ plot. I just zoned out after a while on this one. Oh and if you expect me to believe that Spock had a hard time identifying the real Kirk when he had done so easily in the past (ie What Are Little Girls Made Of?) then... sorry, nope. It’s not the worst episode, I liked it slightly better thant he last one, but once more not great. I would like to see a modern ST series tackle mental illness though, good thing I’ve got plenty of those up ahead. 2/5.
Let That Be Your Last Battlefield: Racism is an awful thing. I shouldn’t need to say that because it should be obvious to any rational person... but the recent years have made it clear that many of us aren’t rational beings. ST was made in the 60’s and at this time they were in the aftermath of Martin Luther King Jr’s asassination and the threat of the Cold War. While it’s easy to overlook now, ST was quite progressive at the time for featuring PoC in prominent positions, such as Kirk having had at least two officers ranked above him who were both Black men. We’ve seen various Black crew members, have an Asian man in a prominent command position with Sulu, and Nichelle Nichols story about the impact of Uhura is utterly beautiful. We even had an interracial kiss (a non-consensual kiss but still) which was controversial for the time. Now many of these things can be seem as not at all enough nowadays and it’s hard to disagree, but for the time these were HUGE deals and to appreciate progress, we must remember the steps taken to get there. And Star Trek was a big deal because they were willing to take those steps at a time where so much as including one non-White person would cause major backlash.
Why did I bring all of that up? Because in this episode we tackle racism head on. We have had other episodes tackle bigotry in some form, such as the Romulans intro episode where some officer was bigoted towards Soock for being Vulcan and Kirk made it very clear that he better get over that attitude. This one puts it in full focus. And... it gets it’s point across well enough, but it’s not perfect. The episode protrays the two sides as equally guilty for the hate and violence between them... despite it being ade VERY clear that the one man was driven to ciolence because the other side tormented and abused him and his people. I don’t condone violence and the end is very much tragic due to the continued hatred, but I think that the recent times have made it clear that blaming a side who was driven to violence because the other, much more powerful side tormented them into it... well, it’s not good to put it lightly. That being said, for the time, it has a powerful message and even if modern times reveals the flaws, the message of mutual violence and hatred against different races and how it can end in utter tragedy with everyone of both sides dead is a strong one. They also make sure that depsite what I said about the one side, the other isn’t presented as good either. We also see both spreading their view onto the crew, a third party who are dragged into it and have to try and deal with it without letting things escalate. With what was happening in the world at the time, it was probably necessary to have this kind of episode and as I said, it does so overall well. There were some strong scenes, like the three commanding officers initiating the self destruct sequences to try and force the enemy to returning the ship to it’s proper course. That was dang intense! The episode has it’s issues mainly due to the evolving times, but the message is still a strong one, and it is one that is needed even to this day. 4/5.
Nine episodes left to go. The seaosn has been... a thing. But there’s no turning back now. Three more tomorrow, we’ll see what’s in store then.

Tumblr media
"Representations of black women in mainstream media constitute a venerable tradition of distorted and limited imagery" (Bobo, 23).
The narrative of Black women in television, movies, and music has been summed up as the "angry black woman role." If we speak too much, too loudly, or too boldly we are angry. If we have valid feelings about a situation that would upset any other normal human being, we are told to suppress those feelings because we don’t want to appear angry. Most roles, especially where a Black woman is the only one of her kind casted, she is given that role while her castmates are much more dimensional.
Country singer Carrie Underwood has sung about vandalizing her partner's SUV after catching him cheating. This song was popularized and Underwood was viewed as the white woman's savior for being so strong and really giving her man what he deserved. On the other hand, Beyoncé was side-eyed by those same people when she released Lemonade, where she is seen smashing a vehicle on the street. Beyoncé also called out her husband's cheater, by the of name of "Becky," a move that angered a whole lotta white women.
Beyoncé's work challenges the angry Black woman narrative because she normalizes having basic human emotion to situations -- regardless of race or gender. When a man cheats, most women are left feeling hurt, betrayed, even resentful. We are no more angry than a white woman for displaying our aggression. At the same time, Beyoncé also empowers Black women by showing that despite what mainstream media says about us and in spite of our pain (and the way we choose to handle it), we can also be happy, smart, funny, talented, etc. Beyoncé has a plethora of songs expressing how emotional she feels when mistreated by a man, but she also has countless songs that uplift women and display how multifaceted we are. She confirms that Black women are much more than their struggle. Beyoncé's music does not limit Black women to the stereotypical norms set by mainstream media. Beyoncé is mainstream media therefore she is reshaping how Black women are portrayed in media.
Waiting to Exhalechallenged this same narrative by again normalizing Black women's reaction to trash men. Waiting to Exhale helped eliminate the shame and stigma associated with how Black women's reaction to receiving disrespect from men. It also showed our strength and resiliency despite our circumstances. Despite going through hell, we as women can still come together to support one another, smile, and laugh. Other than being a wife or girlfriend, we are also mothers, daughters, friends, businesswomen, etc., and we are very good at wearing many hats. While media tries to limit the ways in which we can be visible in society, we are busy proving them wrong. Movies like Waiting to Exhaleprove that our existence is not deduced to the presence of a man. Our feelings of anger are justified, therefore we take the necessary time to heal, but we are not just angry all of the time.
On the other hand, there are film creators like Tyler Perry, who release movies with one-dimensional Black female characters. While his movies are thought of as Black films, they are anything but. For example, his movie, Diary of A Mad Black Womanconfirmed the stereotypes placed on Black women. The main character, was a faithful wife to an abusive husband, who also cheated on her. She was able to give him what he deserved when he fell sick, lost his job, and his mistress left him. Later on in the film, she falls in love with another man who treats her much better. However, the character had so much more potential than to be tied to a man the entire film. The movie was primarily based around her anger towards her husband. While her feelings were justified, it failed to exemplify her other qualities that didn’t include a man or ill feelings towards men in general. That's why it's so important that women like Beyoncé and films like Waiting to Exhaleare never forgotten so that when the media fails to properly represent us, we have something else to turn to for hope.

#30DayWritingChallenge
I recently did the 30 day writing challenge. It made me think, ponder and dig deep into the different facets of my emotional and spiritual self. Sometimes you don’t really know yourself until you answer these questions. This my quest for soul search and I finally answered the questions that I was life-long scared to address.
Writing challenge:
Day 1: Things that make me happy: Braai Beautiful shoes Coke Zero My niece laughing Steers burger and chips Garden salad Deep conversations Troy, my dog Makeup trials The beach Drakensburg Mountains meditation Elevation church Podcasts Beautifully scented rooms
Day 2: Something that someone told me which I’ll never forget: I’m cheeky I have a beautiful soul. I have a big f*****g mouth and think I know too much.
Day 3: Pet peeves: Dirty feet Piled dishes in the sink Arrogant people Impatient drivers
Day 4: People who inspire me: Oprah - live your truth, be present in the moment, strive for excellence. Steven furtick: God can’t bless who you pretend to be. Be yourself. Lisa Bevere - God has uniquely made you and that is your greatest strength. Joyce Meyer - obedience is key to worshiping God. Forgive quickly.
Day 5: Places I want to visit: Cape Town Thailand Sydney India Zanzibar Bali
Day 6: Ways to win my heart: Kind-hearted Loves God Funny Courteous Ambitious
Day 7: Songs I love at the moment: Mercy shawn Mendes 24k Magic Kiss it better Rihanna Bad things camilla cabello Usher Crash Justin Bieber - cold water Ed sheeran - shape of you Closer - chain smokers This girl - Kungs vs cooking on three burners John legend - love me now
Day 8: Something I struggle with: Self-confidence, being single and procrastination.
Day 9: Words of wisdom that speak to me: Be the best version of yourself. Stay true to you and trust your instinct. You are uniquely loved and nothing can replace you. Don’t consume yourself with what others like or think. Don’t set deadlines for yourself. Be spontaneous. Your goals must be uniquely designed for you. What people think of you is none of your business. Be rational in stressful situations. Live life to the fullest and don’t wait for tomorrow to do something. Don’t attend every argument you’re invited to. Dornt allow every voice to have access to you. You are not a garbage truck. Don’t allow people to throw their toxic habits and gossip onto you. Be stingy with your time. Don’t procrastinate . Stay calm.
Day 10: What do I feel strongly about:
Women abuse - a man who has been put on a pedestal and not educated on how to treat a woman will spend his entire life mistreating one. Also when women don’t know their worth, men use reverse psychology to make women believe that no one will love them. So these girls stay in abusive relationships.
Modesty: boyfriends must not be given husband benefits. He must earn it. Likewise, girls clothe yourselves with dignity and respect. Don’t show off everything to gain attention. Be mindful of your behaviour. Don’t compromise and give men the bait to mistreat you. Give them something to respect. Being vulgar is not classy at all.
Christianity - I am entitled to my views about my relationship with God. I will not force it on anyone or dethrone it. I will defend it and not tolerate someone slandering the God that I worship.
Abortion - I believe in life after death and life before birth. Women behave loosely and then can’t deal with the consequences of being pregnant. Wait to get married before you want to have kids. Don’t go on a killing spree and abort your kids. Give them a chance at life.
Racism - how to test yourself to see if you’re racist? Ask yourself, will I accept my child marrying a person of another race. Will I feel comfortable with it. Will I be completely happy if my child had to marry a black, brown or even white person.
Day 11: Something your always think “what if” about: What if I don’t get married and never experience that feeling of loving someone and being loved.
Day 12: Blessings in my life: Family to love Job to work Church to freely worship. Shelter, Food, water and electricity Healthy body and mind
Day 13: What am I excited about? Honestly, nothing. I am looking forward to seeing what God is going to do through me. I know that he has great plans and nothing is impossible with God
Day 14: Favourite movies I’ll never get tired of watching: Blue streak White chicks The Notebook War Room The Breakup The devil wears Prada Dreamgirls Rush Hour Slum dog millionaire Why did I get married Mean girls Pitch perfect Notting Hill Love actually
Day 15: Bullet point your entire day: Woke up Brushed and bathed Attended work Came home Watched tv Ate Watched YouTube videos Read a few bible verses Went to bed
Day 17: Post your zodiac sign and whether it suits you. Pisces Don’t believe in it, don’t read it, don’t care.
Day 18: Discuss 30 facts about yourself: GO! Born in Chatsworth Youngest Granddaughter on both sides Received English award twice Love Indian food Jumped off Moses mabhida stadium Never travelled overseas Watched RHCP live Doesn’t eat mussels, crab or fish. Born again Christian Loves home decor and interior design Hates cats. Loves peaches and litchis Secretly fancy guys with nose rings. Want a tattoo but too scared to get one Have 6 piercings (for now) Hates clutch control. Doesn’t read fiction books at all. Got saved at 15. Baptised at 18 Loves any clothing in black Hates liquorice Doesn’t like bacon. Thinks Mohawks and Man-buns are stupid I’m Indian yet have never worn a sari. Had chronic acne and have to take meds for it. I have a strong instinct and good at figuring people out. All time Fave perfume is juicy couture All time Fave tv show is friends All time Fave singer is Mariah Carey. All time Fave hobby is reading Favourite season is Autumn Naturally I have very curly/frizzy hair. Day 19: Discuss your first love. I’ve never had one. Crushes, yes. Both never loved anyone to the point that it consumed my thoughts.
Day 20: Celebrity crushes: Hugh Jackman Ryan Gosling Morris Chestnut Dwayne Johnson David Beckham J. Cole Chris Hemsworth
Day 21: Lessons you want your children to learn from you: Love God Have compassion and unconditional love for yourself and people Be true to yourself and trust your gut feeling Be strong in who you are and defend yourself. Be loyal. Do things that your want to do, don’t compromise . Have good taste in music Be calm, meditate, don’t be stressed and overwhelmed. Know when to walk away. Don’t let people’s opinions define you. Make yourself happy, don’t live to make others happy.
Day 22: Put your music on shuffle and post 10 songs: Hillsong - From the inside out Emeli Sande - Clown Jagged Edge - I Gotta Be Israel Houghton & New Breed - More and More Kool & The Gang - Get down on it Kanye West - Father Stretch my hands (part 1) Hillsong - Heartbeats Ed Sheeran - Afire Love Anomaly - Lecrae Bruno Mars - When I was your man
Day 23: Write a letter to someone: A letter to my future husband:
I always wondered what you’d be like, your face, your eyes, your personality. To be totally honest, Over time, my type of the ideal guy has changed and I know for sure that the man I wanted at 15 is totally different from the man I want now, at 25. People ask me all the time, when am I gonna get married or find someone special? My response is always delayed and very nonchalant: I don’t know. Just so you know, I’m a wifey kinda girl. I love easily and love hard. I know that you are somewhere and I totally believe in Gods timing. By the way, I pray to God for you, about you and hope He leads you to me. I don’t know when, how and where, but I’m blindly writing this letter with the intention of finding you someday, my love. I’m loyal, trustworthy and find it irresistible when a guy is a gentleman. Just so you know, Chivalry is better than having a 6pack and your love for Jesus must be greater than your love for me.
In ending, I pray that our paths cross and that our love will be eternal. Sincerely, you no.1 lady.
Day 24: Write about a lesson you learnt the hard way: I appreciate peace especially since We grew up in an abusive household, not having much and rented out a little house., my dad has a drinking problem and parents used to fight, it was a tumultuous time. We had nothing worth much so I now know value things that I never had. I know what it’s like to work hard and own my stuff so I don’t depend on a guy or people to provide for me and hear hurtful words. I know not to have expectations in people because they will always disappoint, I’ve learnt that people will speak so fast behind your back and pretend to be loyal, I’ve learnt that work some colleagues will remain as that, work colleagues. You cannot try to change some one who doesn’t see a problem with their actions. I’ve learnt that it’s okay to outgrow friendships and relationships. I’ve learnt that it’s okay to walk away from conversations that make you feel awkward, pushes you to mean and degraded . To keep quiet and not retaliate towards every argument. Clowns will be clowns. I’ve learnt that girls are treated so much more differently than boys so we have to be fierce in our approach and not settle for being trophies, I’ve learnt to have compassion and tip extra. I’ve learnt that people treat you different and disrespect you when you are single. I’ve learnt that people are going through a lot and that’s usually the reason for their bad attitude and response towards life . I’ve learnt that God can only work with the amount of space your give him. I’ve learnt the meaning of surrender. I’ve learnt that God does speak, we just need to listen. I’ve learnt that you don’t have to please everyone and that’s ok. I’ve learnt that you must value and appreciate the people who love you for you.
Day 25: Think of a random word, search it on google and write something inspired by the 11th image: Repertoire. A quintet of musicians are playing brass instruments. I am a huge fan of jazz music so this random word perfectly describes the genre of music. This word also reminds me of Kendrick Lamar’s verse of No more parties in LA.
Day 26: An area in your life that you’d like to improve: Discipline. I wish That I could be more harder on myself to achieve more. I tend to be complacent because I’m very committed to my job, I have lots of responsibilities at home and can’t afford to live out certain dreams of what I want to do. I wish I didn’t procrastinate so much. I wish that I can be more disciplined in studying and not waiting for pressure to force me to learn. I wish that I was more disciplined with my eating habits. I wish I had more courage to enjoy life and take risks instead of caring what people think.
Day 27: Conversely, write about something that you’re doing well at: I think my mindset of thinking positively is great. I love the fact that I remain calm is very stressful situations. I tend not to get I overwhelmed and think rationally. I’m very hopeful and depend on miracles.
Day 28: Things that make you laugh: Memes posted by 9gag and Daquan. Kevin hart, Wanda Sykes Blame it on Kway DC young fly Alan Carr Angela and Marcus from “why did I get married” Charlemagne tha God Michael Blackson
Day 29: Goals for the next 30 days: Eat better Pray more often Get over my sympathy parties Read my bible more Relax a little Work harder and meet deadlines Drink more green tea Laugh more Treat myself better Stop trying to make others feel better at the expense of my sanity. Stop trying to not offend people and stifle my feelings. Realise my value Stop lowering my standards of doing things Watch less tv Write more Drive more Live in the moment, appreciate every moment Stay true to myself and be comfortable in my own skin Don’t feel uncomfortable to say no. Stand firm and defend myself. Be honest when asked my opinion. Less social media Mind my own business and help when asked Don’t meddle. Block negativity Don’t gossip about anyone Be cleaner and tidier Be more assertive in my approach Get disciplined enough to study Be consistent in writing a blog
Day 30: Highs and lows for the month: Highs- my birthday, opportunity to be more creative at work. Living a less stressed life. Being firm and happily single. Lows: stress at work, occasional low moments, which I am working on. Sudden bouts of sadness, fighting and arguing at home amongst family members. Loneliness is dangerous and make you do stupid, irresponsible things.
