"i know both presidential candidates support genocide, but we still need to vote-" ENOUGH. y'all always emphasize the right to vote, but your civic duty literally starts and ends with voting. if you say you're going to vote for someone regardless of what they do, even if you oppose a majority of their policies, how effective is your vote? how are you utilizing the power of your vote to pressure change?
i've seen so many posts saying we have to think about lgbtq+ people, women, bipoc, immigrants, and disabled people this election since it's not just the palestinian genocide that's on the ballot and i just wished y'all would just admit that you're racist. that you would just end this facade of caring for palestinians when you actually believe the livelihoods of americans are more important. genocide should be the red line for everyone, it is quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to a group of people, and yet you're finding ways to minimize it bc it could affect an election that is already steeped in fascism.
you say we have to talk to these minority groups to understand the dangers of a trump win, but none of you are talking or listening to palestinians. palestinians who are dying from our tax dollars and bc our president has vetoed a ceasefire three times now, cut unrwa funding, and sends israel weapons every 36 hours. a president who is:
supporting the "toughest" border security bill (bipartisan btw)
calling undocumented immigrants "illegals" at the sotu
saying he'll sign the tiktok ban bill into law (bipartisan again)
hugging and kissing fascists like netanyahu and meloni
saying he doesn't know how classified documents got into his house but can retell the 40 beheaded babies lie twice
not scheduling campaign events in universities to avoid being interrupted by young voters, therefore alienating his base further
saying no jewish person is safe without israel, implying jewish people aren't safe in the country he runs
not willing to expand the supreme court
not forgiving all student loan debt as he promised to do
saying "i've never been supportive of, you know, 'it's my body, i can do what i want with it'" in regards to women's reproductive health
removing telehealth from medicare beneficiaries
limiting covid precautions, allowing almost 1k dying per week since 2024 started
how has this man shown he's capable of stopping this feared project 2025 when he is actively appeasing to the right instead of his own base? when he has done nothing to stop trump from even being on the ballot once again? when he's not addressing the hundreds of thousands who voted uncommitted or the 80% of his base who want a ceasefire? when elected officials are ignoring people will, that is not a democracy.
we're living in a world where journalists of colors are being laid-off in mass in major media companies that only show half the news bc they're owned by billionaires. we're using nitrogen gas as a death penalty and criminalizing bail funds. homelessness is at its highest in a decade. boeing planes are falling apart in the sky and whistleblowers are dying. it's 70 degrees in march.
i'm telling you that voting blue isn't going to cut it. especially when you have democrats like nyc governor hochul sending the national guard to search bags to send a "psychological" message of safety. or like fetterman who are bought by aipac. or when the democratic minneapolis city council voted to increase rideshare drivers' wages, but now lyft/uber are leaving the city bc they don't want to pay their drivers more. it isn't just individuals, it's a whole system that is corrupt. if you want to show that your vote matters, you need to do that actual work to make your voices heard so your representatives are pressured to change course towards popular will. this should not be a cult where you blindly give your vote away to candidates unwilling to change.

Congratulations! Your Technology Is (Are) About To Stop Being Related
Tumblr media
During library and technology time throughout the week, the elementary students would take their devices to search the app store for the ones on the posters or scan the QR codes to go directly to the websites that were found within each. This includes scholarly and theoretical approaches (history and philosophy of science and technology, technology forecasting, economic growth, and policy, ethics), applied approaches (business innovation, technology management, legal and engineering) and approaches that are from a development perspective (technology transfer, technology assessment and economic development). The only interesting development was Derrick Knight’s progression. Even in our free time, we find ourselves entering contests to win something or even entering a cooking contest or a beauty pageant. Some 80 candidates enter this beauty pageant. The next coach should win. Now Jarmond gets to make a hire and signal to the BC fan community what he is looking for in a coach. 카지노사이트 추천 closes the chapter on Gene's last hire.
Johnson was brought in to recapture the success of the Inglese years. Johnson was well liked. You must wear shoes meant for the activity in which you are participating and they must fit well for this reason. Doesn’t handle the ball well and therefore cannot spell the point guards occasionally. It is a shame the LaVar Ball is such a huckster. He was a "BC guy." But 카지노사이트 추천 didn't win or even compete enough to keep around. Every once in a while it is good to recognize that aspect of BC's core mission and pray for more than just another BC win. Since then, Lawrence always carried one for good luck. CFL games have also been carried on ESPN3, the company’s live multi-screen network, since 2008. ESPN3 is accessible in more than 85 million households nationwide for fans who receive their internet or video subscriptions from an affiliated provider.
These kind of same unethical retailers possess ended up computer by simply offering his or hers faux products over the internet. I have met a few BC fans over the years who dislike Notre Dame's use of "Irish" but not for the reasons you would think. Office furniture suppliers over recent years have experienced an increase in the quantity of home office furniture currently being sold. Because individuals continue to patronize electronic sports, more recent and better systems are being made annually. If we are going to ask BC students to compete in major sports, we need to give them the resources to compete. While you can question the value or long-term importance of major college sports, you can't argue with what BC did here. At this point the campus is always under construction and college sports are in an arms race. Unlike Football and Basketball, the geography of the school nor the facilities or admissions office hamper us to the point we can't compete in the ACC.
They claim we are the true "Irish" school given our history and population. If either school was picking a nickname now in 2018, would they dare pick anything with any negative connotation? They are now set to break away from the conference they founded and are fighting to take the Big East's history and assets with them. New England talent alone could keep us in the top half of the conference. BC has enough young talent on the roster. There is plenty of local talent and there is no reason we can't compete in the ACC. Steam engines are higher in efficiency compared to water power and could be used as long as there was an adequate supply of fuel and water. The solar cells are designed so that the electrons can only flow one way, and this flow produces direct current (DC) electricity. Think about not really expending cash flow upon spending electric powered costs?

Still confused why I got a write up at work for giving my bf a peck on the lips (but he doesn't...) bc someone else in the breakroom reported it as an 'incident'. even tho neither of us were on the clock and we weren't making out or anything??? And I'm told it was something to do with company policy but there's nothing in the policy about kissing so's afaik??? So when I had my JD and I'm like yeah I follow company policies and gave myself a high mark on that one, my boss was like well there was the incident some can't give full points for that. I'm like ?? Fr wtf??
At the time I got the write up I was so pissed off I had sorta checked out and was just like yeah whatever I did it ill accept the write up whatever I'm not invested in staying here so whatever the fuck. And I'm just like now i have to stay until I can find another job with health insurance anyway so I just have to ignore the whole situation so I completely forgot abt it tbh. Anyway if I'd not been like totally shutdown over it I would have fought them on it. Because WHY is it an issue? There is literally 0 reason for it to be an issue. I have seen people change clothes in the locker room, I've seen people use the same gloves all day without changing them, in fact frequently I see people touching doors and going back to doing something involving food with the same gloves on, and yeah maybe I'm not as careful as I should be but I don't rlly deal with food I'm the flowers person, tho i shouldnt bring my phone into the bathroom at least not without cleaning it afterwards, but when I do work with food im way more careful than anyone else there imoo but noooooo, company policy blah blah blah incident report blah blah blah. I have seen ao many things I could report. Plus I'm 80% sure it's either the other guy who likes me being jelly, this girl in another dept who's a total busy body, or this lady in produce who is a scheming bitch who wants me job (I'd give it to her no problemo, but anita would probably quit in a week with her as her boss, so!) Idefk. It's just so dumb for no fucking reason and it's too late to appeal the damn thing but ffs it's not a big deal. And they wonder why they have a hard time keeping employees and high turnover

Strap in bc this is a long one. I’ll be as vague as i can but i work for a weightless company that’s been around since the 80s. The job description isn’t important. This all started when i vomited at work and told manager i wasn’t well enough to work. She pretty much tells me i can’t leave but i can treat myself at work. I know this is illegal and she had to let me go.
My partner comes to get me and they get into an argument and she threatens my job. I’m miserable and upset obviously, all the while had contacted an upper manager who confirmed i can leave. Manager is still doubling down not realizing i have contacted upper management.
Finally she speaks to upper manager and comes back with some bullshit excuse about how she sees how sick i am now. We leave. I consider writing to HR but ultimately decide not to if she understands she was wrong. Cut to next week we have a “meeting” where we go over the attendance policy. She tells me i now have two infractions for taking those two sick days even when i had a doctors note. This is a not so subtle threat bc if i get a third I’ll be terminated. I finally decide to contact HR. (Upper manager had said i was not in trouble and that my job was safe btw).
I tell HR about both incidents. Most recently manager comes in one morning obviously pissed. Now i had a client to deal with right when i clocked in. Like they are scheduled the same time i am scheduled to clock in. As I’m leaving them a message she starts reprimanding about the blinds, super upset they haven’t been opened. I try to hurry up and leave the message and then apologize to manager, explaining that i was on the phone. I’m now being chewed out for handling the client before opening the blinds and how it’s becoming a problem, getting compared to my other coworker. I apologize again and say i understand and will make sure to do it next time. Not even a few minutes later I’m being reprimanded for something else and I’m realizing HR must’ve contacted her, that’s why she’s being like this. I’m listening to her but i realize I’m about to be late for my next client bc of this conversation and i go over to grab the files i needed, which are right next to her. All the while still responding and making eye contact to make sure she knows I’m listening. She suddenly gets upset that I sometimes respond with “mhm” and starts mimicking me. I’m shocked but i just apologize. She’s finding every little detail to criticize me over. I go back into my office kinda humiliated and just do my work. I overhear her talking to someone expressing her annoyance with how HR is looking into her now bc of “these new people” clearly meaning me.
Later, upper manager calls and forces me to confront her directly about the letter to HR in attempt to “hash things out”. I calmly explain that i just didn’t feel supported and manager makes some bullshit excuse about how she wasn’t taught how to properly handle the situation and that she didn’t know how sick i was (lies). By the end of it she’s apologizing bc she didn’t know i “felt that way” and says she isn’t upset about me contacting HR. She’s been a lot nicer since but there’s nooooo way I’m forgetting about how horribly she treated me that morning.
Tldr: manager violates my rights by trying to keep me at work while sick. Gets upset when i contact HR and treats me horribly for a morning before making up excuses.

Did work go ok? ): im so sorry you had to do it on no sleep
ok i ate now so i feel a little more focused LMAO
anyway the fucking weird thing is it wasnt even a bad day?? it was just fucking bizarre. i think i was just barely keeping it together so things that wouldve been frustrating or red flags about the job were just fucking HYSTERICAL to me
some highlights included:
- literally EVERYTHING that was supposed to be prepared for my arrival (my email, some software im supposed to have access to, etc) was not ready. they had 2 weeks to get this shit ready. stuff that was supposed to take maybe 2 hours tops ended up taking the entirety of my shift. the guy training me ended up showing me how to do half the shit on HIS computer because we couldnt log me onto mine.
- my monitor being so fucked during a zoom call that it kept duplicating this one persons video onto other videos like a virus, and when i refreshed to fix it, not only did it start duplicating a DIFFERENT video, but it also broke the colors and started turning this dude purple and grey and the wall behind him green and red. i was shaking laughing the entire time and the guy training me just looked tired
- the automated door to the IT office locking us out. like the dude punched the numbers in and tried to open it and it just wouldnt budge. when someone inside tried to open it for us it STILL wouldnt open. we had to walk around to the other side and wait for someone to open THAT door, which was in another department so we had to wait until someone from that department noticed and let us in. this made what shouldve been a 5-10 minute process turn into an almost half hour long sojourn. the icing on that cake - and i shit u not - is that roughly 3 minutes after we finally got inside, someone else tried the door from the inside and it opened just fine. incidentally i was chatting with my trainer during all that and now im pretty sure hes gay so thats nice LMAO
- because nothing was ready and i couldnt do much of anything, but also am not (technically) allowed to be on my phone, i spent the majority of my shift reading and rereading the company website. thats literally 80% of what i did for the entire 8 hour shift. i was exhausted and crosseyed by the end but hey i sure know their fucking insurance policies now (and theyre bad ♥)
- the piece de resistance for all of this: the reason everything was in such fucking disarray during my shift is because, apparently, the (unofficial?) head of IT quit out of the blue the day before and abandoned everything he was supposed to be doing, including processing my paperwork. no one outside of IT knew and i literally only found out bc i mentioned that he hadnt answered when id called him earlier, to which this other IT guy responded, "well, he quit yesterday, so. thats why."
in fairness to the dude who quit im sure the other IT employees could have done it on their own, but his quitting was really sudden and when i told my trainer what happened he got all sullen and was like "oh. okay... that makes a lot of sense." so i get the impression this dude was probably the backbone of the IT department and him leaving so abruptly really upended their whole shit fgjkdfg
thats not even all of the stuff that happened either. these are literally just the things i personally found the most fucking insane/the funniest. like... this was all my FIRST DAY bro LMAO

Pillars of Hellenic Polytheism: Technically, the pillars were never actually a “thing”. Unlike then 10 commandments, the pillars were never taught as a set of rules that everyone knew by the name “Pillars of Hellenic Polytheism”, or any variation thereof. What modern day practitioners of Hellenic Polytheism call “The Pillars” were essentially religious and cultural practices that were taught by family and friends via every day practices. The pillars were an essential part of the culture of Ancient Greece, taught to them the same way customs like tipping, saying “bless you” at sneezing, and the now-common practice of wearing a mask everywhere are taught to us today. In recreating Hellenic Polytheism for the modern age, the Pillars grew out of a need for a set of guidelines to help us recreate a very old religion.
First up, Xenia. Xenia means “Guest Friendship” and is a set of rules for when a guest comes calling on your home. This set of rules applies to both the host and guest. It is one of the most sacred rules in Hellenic Polytheism, and features heavily in several myths, as well as the Illiad and the Odyssey. Often times, the myths show what happens when someone fails to follow the rules, and it is never a good thing. Zeus himself, under one of his epithets Zeus Xenios, is the embodiment of the religious obligation of being hospitable as both host and guest. In general, the host was meant to be hospitable. This included providing the guests with food, drink, gifts, protection, and even safe travel to their next destination. The guests were required to not be a burden or a threat, provide news and tales of where they had been, and to reciprocate if the host ever showed up their place. In the Illiad, violation of Xenia led to the Trojan war when Paris, the guest, kidnapped his host’s, Menelaus, daughter. The Achaens were required to avenge this insult, because violating Xenia was a massive insult to Zeus and his authority as Zeus Xenios. In the Odyssey, when the suitors of Penelope begin to eat her out of house and home, they violated Xenia by being a burden to her. They also violate Xenia by being rude their host and the other guests in the home.
But how does someone practice this in the modern world where travel is almost always safe and news is delivered to our home not by bards and guests but by social media and the internet?
Xenia should be a belief that guides us everyday, because everyday we play host or guest in our community. When a friend needs help moving, when a neighbor has lost their animal, when we visit a friend or relative, when we run into an old acquaintance at the store, when we see someone in need, when we run into strangers on the street; anytime you interact with another person, when you visit someone, when you stay at a hotel or AirBNB, even at the voting booth, anytime you deal with someone or have an influence on your community, you have a chance to practice Xenia. Xenia goes beyond the simple rules of guest and host and informs how we interact with everyone everyday, because it is tied to our community, especially with philanthropy.
Let’s break this down bit by bit so you can see good examples of how exactly Xenia can inform each of these interactions. Some of these examples will be simply examples, and some of them will be reflective of real life situations I or others have faced in the last few months.
A few years back, the home I shared with my mom, my sister, and my children caught fire. We were left with very few personal items, and no place to live. My uncle, who lived several hundred miles away, practiced Xenia by offering to pay for the deposit and move in fees for an apartment complex. The community we lived in practiced good Xenia by donating items we badly needed, such as beds, clothing, toys for the kids, and much needed housewares like microwaves, pots and pans, and silverware. Several members of the community organized a drive to help us replace many of the items we lost and guided us to food banks that helped us with electricity deposits and the first few months’ worth of bills. Every person we interacted with practiced Xenia, even if they had no idea that they were doing so at the time.
About 2 years ago, we found a small dog in front of our local grocery store. There was no collar, no chip, and the poor thing was half-starved and filthy. We took it home, cleaned it, cared for it, and then took actions to return the puppy to her rightful owner. We put up signs, made posts on Facebook, called every animal shelter in 80 miles, and searched lost and found pages, groups, and posts on every social media site we could think of. 3 days later, we found the owners, a newlywed couple who had come home to find the front door of their home open and the puppy they had gotten 2 weeks ago gone. When we took care of the animal and made every effort to find her owner, we put into practice the basic principles of Xenia by playing good hosts to the animal in our care. Xenia does not just inform our actions for people, but is also informs how we should treat every living thing.
Now for an example that includes both good and bad xenia, in it’s purest form of being a guest and a host. Say you are visiting family out of town, and you bring a bottle of wine. The wine is a good gift on your part as a guest, and is an example of good xenia. You don’t overstay your welcome, you go home early because you know your hosts have an early morning the next day, you take care to not cause any mess, and you use your manners flawlessly. Then, 2 weeks later, your host pays a visit to you. They bring their spouse and kids along. They fail to bring any gift, allow their kids to eat all the snacks in your cupboard, drink all of your soda that was supposed to last all week, overstay their welcome by sticking around for dinner even when it is obvious that you didn’t plan on having an extra 5 people over for dinner, don’t clean up after their kids or even watch them, and don’t leave until after 10 pm even though you mention time and again that you have to leave at 6 tomorrow morning for an early start to work. Outside of paying a return visit to you, your guests have been a perfect example of how to violate the rules of Xenia at every turn. And we all have one of those friends or family. The ones who never can take a hint and eventually wind up being unwelcome at your house, or any other simply because they’ve violated the rules of Xenia so often.
When we run into strangers or acquaintances, we can practice good Xenia by simply inquiring after them, if they have the time. Simply saying “Hey, how’s it going?” or “How are you?” can go a long way in being an extension of Xenia outside the home. My job has made Xenia a rule of thumb without knowing even know it, by insisting that we Stand, Smile, and Greet every customer, move around the counter to sit with them at a table when taking an application, and take the time to get to know them. We offer small snacks and candies, bottle of water alongside soda and coffee, and as a result, we practice good xenia as a whole throughout the company.
Xenia also intersects with philanthropy when we see someone in need. Donating to food banks, charities that enforce the rules of xenia like homeless shelters, and even engaging in personal donations to those in need are all good way to practice Xenia on a regular basis and literally put your money where your mouth is as a practitioner of Hellenic Polytheism. Even at the voting booth, we can practice Xenia by ensuring that those we vote for uphold those values by supporting immigrants, providing for the homeless, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, and assisting those who need it. By ensuring that we vote for those who practice Xenia every day and put it into policy, we can support our community.
Last, but definitely not least, Xenia guides our relationship with our own gods. The gods give to us every day, and we can reciprocate in kind. We can let our altars serve as their home, ensuring it is clean and kept in good repair. We can make sure we have appropriate offerings (this can even include something as simple as clean water, bread, incense smoke, or a dash of olive oil). We can welcome them to our home with prayers and praises. We can remember that when they come to our altars, they are guests in our home and we must, above all, treat them as such.
In short, Xenia is a practice, a Pillar that informs our every day life. Some extensions of Xenia are called “good manners”, some of them are called “being a good neighbor”, and some are called “being a good citizen”. We all have practiced and expected Xenia as a part of our lives at some point or another. As I mentioned in the beginning of this podcast, Xenia, as a part of the pillars, is not a simple commandment. It is a way of life, expected of us at every turn. It is a pillar, not just of Hellenic Polytheism, but of our lives.
For references, I relied heavily on the Illiad and the Odyssey, both of which I own. I also pulled from Wikipedia, the Xenia comic by Greek Myth Comix, Hellenic Polytheism by Chris Aldridge, Hellenic Polytheism: Household Worship, and Mythology of the Greeks: Legends Anterior to and Contemporary with the Trojan War to 1183 BC to the First Olympiad, 776 BC by George Grote.
Thanks for listening to this episode of “Hellenic Polytheism 101”, a short lecture on Xenia as a Pillar of Hellenic Polytheism. For a transcript of this podcast, you can visit goddesssdoeswitchery.tumblr.com, and look for the tag “Hellenic Polytheism 101 transcripts”. There you will find a link to the references, including an amazon link to the books I referenced, outside of the one by George Grote, as it is 164 years old. You can also ask me any questions there. Don’t forget to tune in for the next episode, coming August 23rd, about Kharis.

Going For It: The Actions We Need For The Coming Decade
Tumblr media
© Pierre Baelen / Greenpeace. The Greenpeace crew jumps from the MY Esperanza during a swim stop, at the end of the Amazon Reef leg of the Protect the Ocean expedition, in 2019.
2020 marks the start of a new decade and it’s pivotal that we use this moment to kickstart the restoration and renewal of our forests, oceans and the climate. We asked four Greenpeace campaigners what we can do as individuals and as a collective to enact positive environmental change for our shared future. Here are their thoughts on how we can have an impact.
Making waves through individual actions
Emily Charles-Donelson, Digital Campaigner
Tumblr media
Facing the climate crisis can feel like an overwhelming task. How can an individual have an impact? Well, what about starting at home – looking within our own fridges and shopping bags.
A study in the Journal of Industrial Ecology revealed that the stuff we consume – from food to knick-knacks – contributes up to 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions and accounts for 50 - 80% of total land, material, and water use. Even seemingly small things add up – for instance, one third of the food produced globally is lost or wasted every year. That food waste generates 8% of our total annual greenhouse gas emissions worldwide – four times as much as global aviation!
Everyone has a role to play along the production-consumption chain, and broader policy shift s can be enacted through individual change and collective pressure. For those who can, it’s important to support local businesses, local farmers and only purchase what we need. Secondhand shopping, swapping items with neighbours, mending and making your own clothes, and growing and baking your own food, are also opportunities to challenge waste and support a circular economy. And by opting out of wasteful consumption, we’re showing that change is possible, and sends a message to corporation and governments that that insist on business as usual.
We must lead the way for policies that will uphold a sustainable, healthy system for future generations. Our actions today can create a safer, more resilient tomorrow.

Moblizing to shift power
Isabelle L’Héritier, Offline Mobilization Campaigner
Tumblr media
Over the past few years we have seen hundreds of thousands of citizens from all walks of life challenging those in power and calling for real environmental action. More than ever before, it is critical to continue mobilizing and supporting changemakers – like the inspiring student climate strikers – and to push for system change and climate solutions.
The current systems aren’t working and business cannot carry on as usual. We must collectively keep the pressure on our governments and major decision-makers to create the policies and systems needed to support a just and green world for all. And like all great changes in history, it will be ‘people power’ that drives this vital change!
What I encourage is for people to go a step further, whatever that looks like for you. Trust yourself, get a bit outside of your comfort zone, embrace your power as a citizen and try new actions. For example, if up to now you’ve limited your activism to signing petitions or sharing on social media, consider attending a rally or a march, calling or sending an email to your MP, joining a Greenpeace or community group, sending an opinion letter to your local newspaper, participating in a direct action, or being a part of another form of system change.
At Greenpeace, we use transformative, participatory and creative approaches to empower our supporters and allies, and build their autonomy, confidence and skills while they take action with us. Equipped with the tools to create, share and organize, we hope to shift the power from established institutions and dominant companies to individuals and their communities.
Because together, when we organize, we make change happen.
Tumblr media

Holding corporations accountable
Sarah King, Head of the Oceans & Plastics Campaign
Tumblr media
Holding corporations accountable for their role in the climate crisis is important in charting a greener, more just world for people and the planet. Greenpeace is no stranger to shining a light on the wrong-doings of major corporations and putting pressure on decision-makers to embrace solutions. And the thousands of people who support us are key at every step in the process.
Corporate campaigning comes in many forms but it’s generally a combination of exposure, direct dialogue with the company, public pressure, cross-sector engagement, and the threat of reputational damage that creates change. With more and more companies sharing information through social media and monitoring conversations, corporate campaigning has become very digitally focused. Influencing online conversations and showing widespread support for positive change – for example, using petitions – is one way that Greenpeace gets and holds a company’s attention, often while conversations behind the scenes are taking place about what it will take for us to stand down.
Tumblr media
© Marlon Marinho / Greenpeace. In 2019, at corporate headquarters in Toronto and around the world, Greenpeace delivered a message from supporters urging fast-food giants to reject the Brazilian government’s anti-environmental agenda and goods linked to destruction of the Amazon.
Over the years, I’ve engaged with companies of all sizes and discovered that across the board, companies make changes when they hear directly from the public – especially their customers. While it may seem like signing a petition is futile, that simple action is a piece of an overall strategy aimed at driving corporate change.
Changing companies and broken systems doesn’t happen overnight. But we continue to see positive steps being made that are building the future we want and need. Never underestimate the power of your voice and taking action, because even if you don’t see change at the pace you want, we will get there!
Greenpeace doesn’t officially partner with companies, which allows us to have no permanent friends or foes. Because we work on so many issues, a multinational corporation could be more responsible on one aspect of its business while completely failing on another. Our independence and dedication to our mission for a green and peaceful future trumps all.

Protecting the world’s forests, and their vast carbon stores, is a priority to mitigate the climate crisis, and as the third most forested country on Earth, Canada has a big role to play.
We need to remember that these forests are first and foremost Indigenous cultural landscapes, shaped by the Peoples who have governed and stewarded them since time immemorial. And so restoring the Earth is inextricably linked with restoring Indigenous knowledge, culture and governance of land.
The principle of free, prior and informed consent for provides a guide to accomplishing this.
This principle of consent is a minimum standard for the “survival, dignity and well-being” of Indigenous Peoples everywhere, and it must involve good dialogue and inclusive community processes when decisions about the future of Indigenous lands and forests are being made.
In doing so, new conservation and economic models can be developed that benefit people and the planet.

Shamefully, this principle has still not been enshrined in Canadian law, and the implications for reconciliation and climate action are profound.
But we can do something about it. This is a call to action to non-Indigenous Canadians to get political. Tell your elected officials that Indigenous rights and climate action can’t wait.
Sign a petition, show up at a rally, share news stories about Indigenous rights and stand with a local First Nation. Your voice matters and together we have real power.
We each have a responsibility to future generations to build a culture of respect for the Earth and human dignity. It’s time to step up and stand in solidarity with our Indigenous brothers and sisters.

Putting the full text under the cut bc paywalls:
By
Meryl Kornfield
Feb. 22, 2020 at 2:41 p.m. EST
Yeming Shen called 911 on Feb. 10. He was alone in his Troy, N.Y., apartment, dying of the flu. But the garbled call was unintelligible to the operators, and police couldn’t pinpoint the phone’s location.
For 45 minutes after Shen called 911, five police officers, three firefighters and a police dog searched in vain for the student. All they had was a general area encompassing two apartment buildings. They eventually gave up without finding Shen.
Six hours later, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute student’s roommate discovered his body, the Times Union first reported.
The case highlights issues that have plagued 911 phone systems across the country since the advent of smartphones. Cellphone privacy settings and outdated dispatch mapping systems continue to frustrate first responders when they can’t find callers.
911 systems are getting old, and the public can be in danger when they fail
Landline numbers are much easier for these systems to pinpoint. But over 80 percent of the calls to the nation’s 911 centers are from cellphones, The Washington Post has previously reported.
The Federal Communications Commission has required cellphone carriers to improve the transfer of information to 911 centers. The carriers have until 2021 to make sure transmitted locations are within 50 yards 80 percent of the time.
Cities, including Washington, have partnered with technology companies to better their systems. In the meantime, law enforcement personnel and the wireless industry have struggled to find a solution.
District using new technology to pinpoint location of wireless 911 calls
Ohio teenager Kyle Plush came up with an answer to the problem in 2018. His idea, designed for a hack-a-thon competition, was to modify the Apple Watch to include a distress signal function that would send an exact location to first responders. Two months later, Kyle became trapped under a seat in his Honda minivan. When he called 911, the operator couldn’t understand the breathless teenager, The Post then reported.
He was later found dead in his car.
Kyle’s family has since started the Kyle Plush Answer the Call Foundation to bring awareness to the aging 911 infrastructure, citing similar stories.
Another incident ended with the death in 2017 of Charles Romine, near Dayton. It took two days for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to find the body of the 71-year-old man after he called 911 for help. Chief Deputy Rob Streck told the Dayton Daily News that operators rely on the location provided by callers because location technology is “kind of a coin toss.”
But people calling 911 in emergencies may not be able to give an address.
Last year in Chicago, a stroke victim, whose brain function was quickly deteriorating, didn’t know the address of the hotel he was staying in, local news reported. The Chicago 911 system couldn’t trace his cellphone because it was not set up to connect to the Internet for security reasons.
Even when callers know their locations, operators answering may not.
In 2015, Shanell Anderson, a 31-year-old newspaper delivery woman in Georgia, drove her car into a pond and was sinking when she called 911. She spent her last moments of consciousness telling a 911 operator the intersection of the pond. But the dispatch center that received the call was in the wrong county, an Atlanta TV news station reported.
Anderson kept repeating her location until rising waters muffled her, but the operator was helpless.
“Give me the address one more time. It’s not working,” the dispatcher said.
Did a 911 delay lead to two people dying in a D.C. fire?
Calls being routed to another agency is so common that most systems allow operators to transfer calls to neighboring centers.
The response to the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla., was delayed because calls to 911 were routed to two different dispatch centers depending on whether callers were using cellphones or landlines, a commission set up after the shooting found. Overwhelmed by the volume of calls, dispatch dropped some and didn’t transfer others.
In Shen’s case, tracking him was further complicated because he was using a Chinese cellphone and U.S. number. The number wasn’t registered to a name or address, so police couldn’t identify his apartment number.
Shen was pursuing a doctorate at the New York university when he died, the school said in a statement. He previously earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Guangzhou, China.
His research at RPI may be used to disrupt human trafficking, one of Shen’s professors, Thomas Sharkey, wrote in a letter to the editor published in the school’s paper.
“He used his tremendous mathematical mind to help create new methods to disrupt the networks of transnational criminal organizations, a truly noble cause,” Sharkey said about his student. “His work garnered significant attention from government agencies to the point where it could be providing insights into shaping policy in the near future.”

BEST APPLIANCE RECYCLING SERVICE IN WICHITA KS
WICHITA APPLIANCE RECYCLING
Appliance Recycling in Wichita KS
Appliance Recycling Service near Wichita KS: The good news is that many of your used appliances can be recycled. Appliances manufactured with mostly metal, such as washers and dryers, make up around 10% of the steel recycled in every year. Materials such as steel, aluminum, tempered glass, and plastic are recovered from the recycling of common appliances and then are used to make new products. Types of appliances that are usually accepted at the white goods/metal recycling area of the transfer station include large, metal appliances such as:
● Air Conditioners ● Refrigerators ● Dishwashers ● Washers/Dryers ● Ice Makers ● Deep Freezers ● Stoves ● Wine Cellars ● junk removal vs dumpster rental
When moving these appliances, be careful not to damage any tubing or leak any coolant, since this can be very dangerous. Take off any doors and hire a professional to drain the coolant from your appliances before hauling them to be recycled. Gas tanks, propane, or refrigerant tanks have to be taken separately to a hazardous waste center to be properly disposed of. Any batteries will need to be disposed of separately, too. When thinking about hauling your old appliances to be recycled, keep in mind you will need someone to help you load and unload those heavy appliances you want to dispose of, especially refrigerators and washer/dryer sets. If you’ve ever tried to move a fridge or stove, you know it’s a difficult job without help. Aside from the heavy lifting dangers associated with trying to haul a heavy appliance to the dump, improper disposal can also harm the environment. Many old house hold contain ozone-depleting chemicals that disperse into the air when left to break down in a landfill. Taking the proper steps to handle your appliance removal responsibly not only preserves your back health, but the health of the environment, too. Appliance Recycling Service near Wichita KS: At Wichita Household Services, we’re experts in responsible appliance disposal. We’ve got the inside scoop on proper recycling practices, and the equipment necessary to safely remove your old appliances without you having to damage your back, or your home. And if your old appliance still works, we’ll donate it to charity. One of the easiest ways to save energy around the house is by purchasing energy-efficient appliances. Be sure to recycle your old ones, though, because they’re mostly made up of metal. Large Appliances Recycling Preparation ● Unplug your appliance for several days before recycling to let it cool down. ● In the case of older air conditioners, freezers and refrigerators, you’ll need to confirm whether the recycler removes Freon. If not, you’ll need to contact a professional for Freon removal. ● If you bought a new appliance and it’s being delivered, ask the company if it will haul away your old appliance. In many cases, the truck will accept multiple appliances for recycling even if only one is being delivered. ● If you’re getting rid of a still-working product that is less than five years old, consider donating it. Habitat for Humanity operates Restore locations throughout that sell building supplies to raise money for new houses, and they will often accept newer, working appliances. ● Tape any doors with masking or duct tape so they don’t fly open during transport. ● If you need to transport the appliance to the curb or a truck, use a dolly. Large appliances are far too heavy for one person to carry.     Why Recycle Large Appliances ● Steel (the most recycled material) makes up 75 percent of the average appliance, and home appliances account for 10 percent of steel recycled each year. ● Refrigerators and air conditioners use fluorocarbons to chill air, and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are a leading contributor to ozone depletion. CFCs are released from a trashed refrigerator but will be safely processed by a recycler. Many utility companies will provide you with a credit to buy a new appliance and recycle the old one, not to mention the money you’ll save on your monthly bill.
COST
How much is Appliance Removal or Recycle?
Appliance Recycling Service near Wichita KS: Each junk removal service charges a different price to pick up your unwanted appliances. You can find prices for appliance removal listed on the web for anywhere between $80 and $625. That’s because a lot of different factors can influence appliance removal cost. Using a junk removal service to get rid of an old refrigerator or chest freezer for you could cost a little more than if you were to dispose of your appliance yourself. Professional haulers have to charge for their services because to responsibly dispose of your washer or dryer, they have to be able to cover the disposal fees they’re charged by the disposal facility. A professional junk removal company also has to cover their overhead costs such as licensing and background checks for the people picking up the appliances, as well as insurance policies and proper equipment to ensure you are protected from any accidental damage during the appliance removal process. For these reasons, you should seriously consider using a professional hauling company, instead of using some guy you found on Craigslist or Task Rabbit, to pick up and dispose of your old dishwasher or wine cooler. However, there are a few other things you can consider to help you make sure you’re getting the least expensive appliance removal service possible.
Booking Appliance Recycle
Appliance Recycling Service near Wichita KS: Many junk removal services advertise same-day service for disposal of your old air conditioner or portable fireplace, but this can be misleading since it doesn’t always mean same-day pickup. It can be days to weeks before a junk hauler can haul away your old appliances. That’s because you have to book an appointment with the junk disposal service for them to send someone out and give you a price estimate for your appliance pickup. Then you have to schedule yet another appointment for your appliance to be hauled away. The problem with this is that you have to be there for both appointments. Unless you have a lot of free time on your hands, you’ll probably have to take time off work or cancel plans so you can be there.
Appliance Recycle Pricing
Appliance Recycling Service near Wichita KS: Most junk removal services base their pricing on the volume of the items they are picking up. This tactic makes it easier for the person picking up your appliances to jack up the price once your appliances and any other items are loaded onto the truck. When a junk removal company bases their prices on volume but you only have one or two appliances, like a mini fridge or lawn mower you need to get rid of, this makes it very costly and inefficient for you.
Most Affordable Appliance Disposal Service Appliance Recycling Service near Wichita KS: You can get high-quality, affordable appliance removal when you book an appliance pickup with Wichita Household Services.
Wichita Household Services disposes of the appliances and other junk they pick up in an eco-friendly way. Appliances that are still in good working condition are donated to local charities. Any other appliances are taken to your local recycling facility. Disposing of anything by dropping it off at a landfill is only ever done if more eco-friendly disposal options aren’t available.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I recycle my old refrigerator or freezer?
Refrigerators and freezers use Freon and other chlorofluorocarbons as a refrigerant. These cooling agents have been identified as ozone-depleting substances and must be safely drained from refrigeration units by a trained technician at a licensed facility.
Many local landfills and transfer stations are equipped to recycle fridges and freezers. The units can also be picked up by private disposal or recycling companies. A handful of municipalities in B.C. offer free pick-up of fridges and freezers.
My fridge or freezer is still working. Can I donate it?
Most charities no longer accept fridges and freezers for donation. Unfortunately, these large items are too costly to transport and store. However, there may be someone in your community who is interested in reusing the appliance or salvaging it for parts.
Can I recycle large appliances like washers and dryers?
If the items are in very good, working condition, there may be someone in your community who is interested in reusing the appliance or salvaging it for parts depending on its age and condition.
If the appliances are no longer in good condition, large appliances are part of the Major Appliance Recycling Roundtable (MARR) recycling program in BC.  Through this program, most landfills and transfer stations accept large appliances recycling.  There may also be several scrap metal companies who would accept the appliances for their metal.
Where can I take my microwave for recycling?
Wichita Household Services Recycling manages a province-wide recycling program for recycling small electrical appliances, including countertop microwaves. Through this program, small appliances can be dropped off for free at a number of designated Wichita Household Services Recycling depots across the Province. BEST RECYCLING SERVICE IN LINCOLN NE
LINCOLN RECYCLING
Recycling in Lincoln NE
Recycling Service near Lincoln NE: The good news is that many of your used appliances can be recycled.
Many old households contain ozone-depleting chemicals that disperse into the air when left to break down in a landfill. Taking the proper steps to handle your appliance removal responsibly not only preserves your back health, but the health of the environment, too. Recycling Service near Lincoln NE: At LNK HAULING JUNK & MOVING, we’re experts in responsible appliance disposal.
Recycling Service near Lincoln NE: Each junk removal service charges a different price to pick up your unwanted appliances. For these reasons, you should seriously consider using a professional hauling company, instead of using some guy you found on Craigslist or Taskrabbit, to pick up and dispose of your old dishwasher or wine cooler. However, there are a few other things you can consider to help you make sure you’re getting the least expensive appliance removal service possible.
Booking Appliance Recycle
Recycling Service near Lincoln NE: Many junk removal services advertise same-day service for disposal of your old air conditioner or portable fireplace, but this can be misleading since it doesn’t always mean same-day pickup.
Recycle Pricing
Recycling Service near Lincoln NE: Most junk removal services base their pricing on the volume of the items they are picking up.
