eating disorder tw but its not the main focus rly i dont think hm wait ok maybe.. mostly gender talk actually
anyways personalizing "it's incredible what women will come up with if left to their own devices" for a sec: ive had trouble articulating this recent phenomenon in my life but lately ive been working on the values i hold "capability" to and the ways that i allow those values to make decisions for me instead of just living life with whimsy.
still caught up in optics as ive always been maybe as a disease of childhood transness but far better than i used to be and yet! im always weighing how material, physical empowerment will be gendered! i saw a quote a while back from like this one transfems lil memoirs and a conversation she had w a friend abt their eating disorder i think? and the friend was like yeah i mean transition and life as a woman has been excruciating enough already but whats another pain if itll help me pass? or whatever. im so scared of gaining any mass anywhere above my waist!!! i wanna throw up thinking about it!!!! oh my god ive never said that before i feel so sick!!!!!
anyways i struggle w NOT presenting weakness or frailty when im fearful of a gendering Eye of Patriarchy or fuckin. male panopticon inside my head but thats the thing! 🥰 ive been divorcing from that panoptic on my head lately! its still there lowkey but my drive to make my life better has been overcoming that adolescent "avoid male interests at all costs" fear :)
so now im like fascinated by like engineering again im thinking of ways to produce more effective hand rests on the bottom of my steering wheel (maybe i wont even have to remove the plastic on the wheel if im good enough at making sockets? for the rests if i make them attachable via clip :3c) and ive been making moves to get into woodworking and throwing together rudimentary furniture which is just so different than what id previously felt abt it. ive been fixing things so often lately like OBSESSED with getting tools for problems i understand 40 year old dads now. that thought is what kills me n saves me tho interestingly enough
what had previously been like a grand gendering process of establishing my princess status (its still there tho) had actually just been reinforcing the unhealthy habits i used to get there in the sense of physical and emotional weakness -- going largely untreated for like 3 or 4 disorders which either obliterate my prefrontal cortex, the integrity and efficacy of my synaptic response in neurotransmission, or my reception of the macro resources necessary to maintain basic body function to name a few... but like theres something to be said for how explicitly gendered it is to be starved-stupid crazy weak and feminine as fuck. not assigning values to those terms (anymore) i was just like leaning into being insanely unwell and calling it a gender role. which tbf is like the predominant myth ALSHSLFHDKD...
... but also im working on stepping away from internalizing a relationship w the myth of gender and using that reaction as my behavioral starting point! (affirmation and argument time) im not a man, i wont even trip and fall into manhood no matter what endeavors i pursue! no matter how much goes on in others ppls heads! there is no way to look at or engage with the world in an explicitly man way because life doesnt actually function on categorical dualities, not to mention bimodal distributions! and thats lesbianism (and therapy) at work! like no presumption of a male occupation of an Entire Sector Of Life And Economy and working on that latent projection of gendered insecurities (and thus production of gendered karma in my materialization of such a projection via action or inaction) onto a life thats literally Just Life Dude. i literally make it. the future doesnt exist yet and the only value it has it the karma we bring to it and take from it!
huge mood change ugh solemn now im forgetting the śūnyatā of the self, the śūnyatā of its form, the śūnyatā of the conception of form itself... of course its only determined internally via extant thought forms and reproduced via tangible, material projection... thats literally the whole racket! of course im suffering with it!!!!!!!!
sooooo yeah im working on recognizing impermanence and encouraging WWP (wonder whim play) just as long as i dont root it in a sense of stability or security! currently that security comes from my sense of any (patriarchal obvi) gendering processes at work in any social situation at hand so i could work on 1. shallowly, my proximity to men or 2. conventionally, my personal processes of projection and reaction to a psychological proximity to men or 3. ultimately, my necessity to ground my "sense of self" in an illusory, impermanent, and universally imprisoning process extant to saṃsāra such as the social mechanisms of gender. i dont even have to fight to have a name for what my wife n i got goin on not because its too complex or too hard but literally i dont care. my words are as empty as yours

hot take: given the “abusive family of cops that raised him catholic” thing, Guy Gardner should be the biggest anti cop anti god vigilante around, and the fact he was turned into a republic makes me sad for his character.
ok like tbh i dont think its ever specified as catholic but he’s probably irish catholic and i usually go with catholic because i think beatriz is specified as a lapsed catholic and i love guy and beatriz parallels. ANYWAYS
given the order that guys backstory and politics are presented really the only chance we had for a “anti cop anti god” guy gardner was with the new52 reboot but johns had his hands all over green lantern stuff at that point so that was never going to happen 😭 especially since a lot of the stuff johns did was to make the whole green lantern corps function like hal jordan did in the 60s but for all of the sectors. so a guy that stood for something radically different than hal didnt have a chance in hell even if johns wasn’t writing the book.
like even with the red lanterns book (which i love) theres not much difference in the function of the red lanterns than the green lanterns when guy is trying to lead them. which was a narrative mistake imo BUT also believable as something guy would do. and like its a superhero title on the main label so im not expecting anything that really goes out there.
i do think that from just what was written before guy gets into giffen and dematteis hands there is a chance for a very different character. pre g.d. guy values one thing the most. the ability to make his own choices. which makes sense when its coming from a man who was unable to make any choice for several years while in a coma and then almost destroyed the universe when following what he was told to do. valuing choice above all else is why he runs away from maltus, why he lashes out at his (ex)fiancée with precognitive abilities, and why he goes to fight russia in order to find john and katma (double reason with people didnt want him to do that and he sees communism as a system that lacks choice(personally i havent read enough theory to discuss it further))
valuing choice above all else is why he doesn’t work well with the green lanterns because he’s pushing back against any decision anyone else makes (and making some rude comments but not as bad as some of the jli stuff). which like got translated to “guy wants to be in charge” in jli when its really like. he just wants to make his own decisions because 1) he didnt get to make any for several years and 2) he keeps getting fucked over when he follows someone else’s decision
but yeah in an ideal world where even just the backstory from chuck dixon was like a thing pre g.d. and like they actually read the comics he was in i think it wouldve been clear that guy had some sort of counter culture phase and like his green lantern wouldve been more bruiser than bully and we wouldnt have gotten all that pro reagan shit from him (even though superman was often in reagan oval office at the time) and more of a fuck authority attitude. but that wouldve also required a more radical opinion from the writers at the time and like i dont think g&d have even been close to dennis o’neil levels of left and they definitely weren’t going to get into it in their joke book
but yeah anything that says guy follows in his abusive family’s footsteps sucks ass

Can One Truly Leave the Sex Industry
Inside my 5-6 years in the escorting world, I just need seen one woman completely get out of the sex industry. Others, a small minority, may leave apparently industry but typically revert back to selling themselves after a few weeks/months/years. I will never forgot the words, Shell be back, said along with a Madame (brothel/escort business owner) at an establishment I worked at overseas. Consider the 63 after a popular young woman decided it was her last day in the industry, and she wanted to do pursue her new normal job and boyfriend. Shell be backhow discouraging, yet later I realized how real the statement actually was. Paulina Leaving the information mill NEVER without war. Paulina is the only former-escort I understand who has left the industry entirely. She has managed so far successfully, but it wasnt easy at in the beginning. I came to know her intimately only after she left the industry and when she almost fell back to it. However, when she was still in the industry and we were working together we hardly mingled. Having been the odd girl who stayed away from the casual sex, drugs, and party scene, so generally she, like many working girls, found little commonality with my lifestyle. Paulina was a stupendous South America girl who immigrated towards the West at a young age. I witnessed her loss-of-innocence in her escorting days, which happens when she involved herself with heavy partying and living with another escort (a match for disaster). She ended up getting involved through expensive drug (cocaine) habit, which looks the drug of choice for elite escorts/clients. Thankfully, her experimenting phase was short-lived, and ended in one year. One thing that Paulina and I have done have in common was our conflicting values of traditional and modern. She was raised on the inside West, yet she still held on to her traditional South American values (her cultural values conflicted with the individualistic, care-free values she was living as the prostitute). Selling sex is often not problematic, but rather the lifestyle frequently related to high-class prostitutes is damaging (excessive partying, excess shallowness). She'd quit the industry, and completely got away from drug treatments and partying. She called me from your nowhere one day, and wanted to. At first I couldnt discover why she would suddenly want to meet me, but later she told me that I was the only person she hoped to trust from this industry. In her view, I was someone who probably would not tempt her back up in her bad habits, yet I could relate to her because I was an escort overly. I was flattered, and determined to help her stay off from prostitution, even though I wasnt in order to leave myself. She had deep emotional scars from being a prostitute, and think it is hard confide in anyone. She had met a lovely man, but he previously had no idea about her past and she or he wanted to maintain it to remain that way. Whenever she got depressed or felt the urge to return to selling herself, she called me for comfort. I havent seen her in over one year, since she lives overseas where That i used to live. Currently, she's still out of the business, and a wedding soon to the love of her lifetime. She is my hopebecause if she could continue to be away from the industry, then a genuine effort . hope. Unfortunately, it is extremely easy to fall back into prostitution The pattern Ive observed has become common: women leave the industry to pursue love, and they return when that love failed. Another woman I am aware did quit the industry, however she recently admitted that she is returning to escorting. Why? Because she broke up with the person she wanted. Months ago I remember her saying If I wasnt with my boyfriend, then I would personally still be selling myself. This is classic of women trying to depart the industry, and perhaps the most depressing part of computer. Over the years, I met countless women whove returned to prostitution after a failed relationship. Well known girls say they wasted their youth in their failed relationships when they might have been essentially exploiting their youthfulness by selling themselves. During the night these women return to sex work, their hearts are dented. Yes, I have seen many broken hearted women returning to selling their bodies, yet sadly it looks like theyve also lost their souls. When falling in love with a potential partner, an escort to be able to ask herself: Is he worth this method? Is love, itself, enough to quit her autonomy and employment? The men she rejects are individuals cannot leave her with financial freedom, even though they may be willing to adore and treat her decent. Other escorts choose the latter, which is to avoid relationships altogether and focus on man or women. How often do escorts leave the industry when a man is NOT in photographs? I have yet to stumbled upon a prostitute who leaves the industry sector for her very own intuition. Stick to ask myself this question: Do I would like to leave because I want love? Perhaps, as most of us desire love and global recognition. Sadly, acceptance is only granted when people conform to whats frequent. And of course, being a sex worker is out-of-the-norm in modern societies, thus furthering us beyond your societies embrace. But again, it doesnt have staying this form. There are people who fight these oppressive norms that marginalize sex workers its not a very bad thing to differ. But being outside the norms of society requires lots of strength. There is absolutely no social space allocated for prostitutes. As a result, we face tremendous pressure to adhere to the normative ways of living life (such as marriage, owning a home, etc). Although Used to quit for a short period when I realized i was engaged, I never mentally prepared myself that I've been finished is not industry. I still haven't. Its a question that Ive been avoiding to answer: when will I quit? Does an individual even to help quit? Would I remaining? I used to want to quit, and I told myself that I would personally quit selling my body after I'm finished my graduate data. Regardless, I dont feel that Im ready to make now. Enjoy aspects of my job, but I just do not wish the implications (the stigma, the degradation of the industry, the legalities, etc). Fear of leaving sex-work is unique. Escorts in Manchester of emotions. Im aware that the stigma is damaging me, but when times are great I tend to ignore the damage Im executing. At times, sex work doesnt appear like a problem for some escorts, and for others, it is deeply damaging psychologically. But overall, one cannot deny the problem of hunting live in the world where ones identity is constantly hidden and condemned. Social Darwinism, the idea that started this complete survival of the fittest competition among society is a false notion, the idea may be very real in modern society. Im aware that competition is simply a socially constructed concept, yet sadly I feel deeply pressured to engage in this race in society. I fear that if I dont sell myself, I will lose out in this particular competition. This is exactly what needs to change, I have to let go of the pressures of mainstream the population. Why do I want to participate this shallow competition primarily? This is increase in a cold society (Western-Liberal societies) that puts increased progress, individualism, competition, status, and monetary wealth. This is what drove me to the Social Sciences as an area of study: society deeply impacts how people think and react. I assign other reasons why I entered into prostitution on social stress. Once youre in the sex industry, it is very hard to depart. A woman I know is wanting her much better to pursue the usual job but admits she gets the pressure to get back escorting. Its too easy (escorting), and also the money is quick. Her mind, like most escorts, becomes tainted whilst haunting fact: a few hours or an evening of escorting can pay all the bills that would take 1-2 weeks of hard act on a normal job. Did any of folks imagine growing accustomed to our lifestyles? Did we ever imagine that wed donrrrt slave to our own addiction for fast-money? Of course not. A wonderful friend of mine is a former receptionist in intercourse party industry. She told me how she was inclined to become an escort, however she changed her mind once she saw the reality: escorts may make lots of money, but at the high cost of our emotions. Provides you with ask myself time and time againWas it this?

Whats the Cost for motorcycle insurance if Iam 18? I'd like to get a cycle after I'm 18 but if the insurance charge to much I probably won't. But I'd like to understand basically'm 18 about howmuch it will cost per month to get a sportsbike. I want ninja. ???" "How much would Liability Workers Compensation, and automobile insurance be for my small business?" Hello, i am along the way of starting a brand new business and i desired to know how much it would cost per month to possess auto-insurance (for starters previous vehicle to move personnel to cut lawns, simply driving within one city). Workers comp, and liability. We'll produce 000 a year, about 80 total only several men (im one of them) operating." Is someone else included under my car insurance to drive MY auto? Used to donot finish high-school, next slide, but I'll get my GED and head to school. My dad says he wont set me on his insurance basically obtain a new-car but insurance on the new-car is going to be like $400 per month!!!! I have no incidents or seats my document is not dirty. I've a vehicle that i DONT wish to market, but I'll not be using often, could I keep it WITHOUT spending insurance, since naturally it would be a waste of money to be paying insurance on a car that i do not drive." "Can I possess a surcharge on my auto-insurance coverage easily allow policy lapse perhaps with no car?" Right now on purchasing a new-vehicle I've made a decision to wait. Our previous vehicle was a rental, the lease ended and right now I don't have a vehicle in my own name. My separate insurance broker is showing me that when I don't keep up an insurance plan at a good low-rate, once I do get a car (when that could be) after which get a new coverage I would be susceptible to a surcharge. For this reason we are doing anything incredibly simple to maintain an insurance policy in position. This appears improves a problem and truly peculiar in my experience why do easily don't possess a vehicle, I've to possess car insurance? When I do obtain a car at a later day why should I get yourself a surcharge? This seems like as soon as youare within the auto-insurance process, you cannot escape without penalties. Seems nearly the same as the insurance industry is attempting to acquire everybody to pay for a car with or without in to the program. And when that is the situation this sounds really such as the car insurance industry has recently fixed the medical health insurance sector with precedent. What am I missing?" "When renting a-car, can you obtain your own personal insurance? When going to a rental car agency including Hertz they highly 'promote' one to buy insurance. Could you obtain your own insurance that includes you within their automobiles instead of having to pay the hugely pricey insurance they provide? Exactly why is People increasing my insurance rates? I ordered my home 36 months and covered your house with Tourists homeowners insurance. The rate started at $843.00 per year along with the house's insured value was $ 183,000. The fee...show more" Simply how much cost an insurance? I am not working and that I will require an insurance. Howmuch does auto insurance cost on average for an 18-year old female drivein california? ??????????????????? Motor Insurance HELP....? Well Im 19 yo. and I need to obtain a car in England. But insurance is the main problem!!! BMW M1 etc. but used versions although I have Overseas Driver License searching cars like Crossfire. Which insurance carrier could be the greatest for me personally??? Btw Im university student." What's the most effective car for insurance. 17 y/o? Do Republicans Or Democrats Give More To Charity

Do Republicans Or Democrats Give More To Charity
Tumblr media
The Relationship Between Generosity And Political Affiliation And Gender
Who LIES More- Republicans or Democrats?
Most people tip their hair stylists, while only 27% tip their hotel housekeeper.
+1.63%
Tipping can be a social and cultural maelstrom. And social media doesnt always help.
A National Basketball Association player who has a $30 million contract drew internet ire last week after leaving a $13.97 tip on a $487.13 bill. Andre Roberson of the Oklahoma City Thunder made headlines for the paltry tip, and the strong reaction shows just how emotional the question of tipping can be.
But it wasnt quite as clear-cut as it seemed. Roberson released a statement on Twitter TWTR, +1.63%  saying he was misrepresented, saying he bought one bottle of liquor for $487 at a bar, around five times the retail price and rounded it out to $500. Roberson said he also had a $100 tab on shots for which he left a $200 tip. I thought hed be grateful for the $200 tip, he wrote of the barman who served him.
Meanwhile, some restaurants have banned tipping while Uber is finally encouraging riders to open their wallets to drivers who go the extra mile.
See more:Meet the most generous tipper in America
Some of the findings seemed to play out in real life when three supporters of President Donald Trump left a $450 tip for a Washington, D.C. waitress in January, though they were from Texas, not the relatively more generous northeast.

Statistics On Us Generosity
In this section youll find charts and graphs laying out the most important numbers in American philanthropy. They document how much we give, how that has changed over time, what areas we give to, and what mechanisms we use to donate. There are figures here on where charities get their money, how many people offer volunteer labor, the demographic factors that influence generosity , and how various states and cities differ. The top foundations and donor-advised funds are ranked by their giving. We present surprising information on overseas aid, and statistics on how the U.S. compares to other countries when it comes to donating to charity.
Beto Orourke Other Democrats See The Downside Of Releasing Tax Returns
CHARLOTTESVILLE About 24 hours after presidential hopeful Beto ORourke released his tax returns from the past decade, a University of Virginia student asked him why he didnt donate more money to charities.
ORourke, a former congressman from El Paso, and his wife reported in their 2017 tax return that they donated $1,166 which was one-third of 1 percent of their $370,412 of income that year. ORourke told reporters on Wednesday that, over the years, he and his wife have donated thousands of dollars more that they did not itemize because it wasnt important for us to take the deduction. The campaign has yet to provide updated numbers.
Ive served in public office since 2005. I do my best to contribute to the success of my community, of my state and, now, of my country, ORourke said in responding to the student on Tuesday night. Im doing everything that I can right now, spending this time with you not with our kiddos, not back home in El Paso because I want to sacrifice everything to make sure that we meet this moment of truth with everything that weve got.
ORourke is not the only Democratic candidate who has had personal finances questioned at a time when many voters are frustrated by the ever-growing economic divide in the country. One by one, Democratic candidates have released their tax returns something that President Trump has refused to do in an attempt at transparency.

Charitable Giving By State: Are Republicans More Generous Than Democrats Or Just More Religious
It turns out that the old Bushism about compassionate conservatism may not be a myth after all. In a new analysis of Internal Revenue Service tax records, the Chronicle of Philanthropy on Monday ranked U.S. cities and states by how much money their residents give to charity. The bottom line? People in red states are more generous with their green.
The study, which compared IRS data from 2012 with data from 2006, showed that the 17 most generous states — as measured by the percentage of their income they donated to charity — voted for Mitt Romney in the last presidential election. The seven states at the bottom of the list, meanwhile, voted for Barack Obama.
Exactly why is a bit of a mystery. Stacy Palmer, editor of the Chronicle of Philanthropy, said the data only showed how much money people gave away, not which types of organizations they gave to. But generally speaking, she said its fair to assume that political ideology aligns to some extent with ideas about charitable giving.
Not to be too simplistic about it, but if you believe that government should take care of basic social services, then youre going to go that way, Palmer told International Business Times. If you think charities should take care of things, and not government, then youre probably going to give more generously to charity.

Volunteering In The Us
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This data comes from detailed time logs that statisticians ask householders to keep. In less strict definitions like phone surveys, more like 45 percent of the U.S. population say they volunteered some time to a charitable cause within the last year.
Current estimates of the dollar value of volunteered time range from $179 billion per year to more than twice that, depending on how you count.Volunteering is closely associated with donating cash as well. One  Harris study showed that Americans who volunteered gave 11 times as much money to charity in a year as those who did not volunteer.
An interesting pattern emerges if one studies giving by income level. As incomes rise, more and more of the people in that bracket make gifts to charity. The sizes of their gifts tend to rise as well. However: if you look at average donations as a fraction of funds available, they tend to level off at around 2-3 percent of income.
Religious faith is a central influence on giving. Religious people are much more likely than the non-religious to donate to charitable causesincluding secular causesand they give much more.
Among Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike, almost exactly half of the group averaged $100-$999 in annual charitable donations at the time of this 2005 poll. There was virtually no difference among the parties in the size of that moderate-giving group, so those results were not included in the graph to the left.

How Political Ideology Influences Charitable Giving
Many issues seem to divide Democrats and Republicans, and new research has found one more: philanthropy.
Red counties, which are overwhelmingly Republican, tend to report higher charitable contributions than Democratic-dominated blue counties, according to a new study on giving, although giving in blue counties is often bolstered by a combination of charitable donations and higher taxes.
But as red or blue counties become more politically competitive, charitable giving tends to fall.
Theres something about the like-mindedness where perhaps the comfort level rises, said one of the authors of the study, Robert K. Christensen, associate professor at the George W. Romney Institute of Public Service and Ethics at Brigham Young University. They feel safe redistributing their wealth voluntarily. It also matters for compulsory giving.
The study was conducted by four research professors who set out to explore how political differences affect charitable giving. It was published on Oct. 20 in the academic journal Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. The other authors were Laurie E. Paarlberg of Indiana UniversityPurdue University Indianapolis, Rebecca Nesbit of the University of Georgia and Richard M. Clerkin of North Carolina State University.
Dr. Christensen said the team had analyzed more than 3,000 counties, but it did not reveal the county-by-county breakdowns. Its hard to pull those counties out because of the control variables, he said.
Charitable Giving Does Not Match Government Aid
Those in favor of lower taxes have argued that individuals are more capable than the government of allocating money to important causes, including people in need of assistance. But the study found that was not true. Donations do not match government assistance, and without tax money, social services are not funded as robustly.
The evidence shows that private philanthropy cant compensate for the loss of government provision, Dr. Nesbit said. Its not equal. What government can put into these things is so much more than what we see through private philanthropy.
On the other hand, private philanthropy can do many things better than government aid, as in being responsive to a need and willing to fail without political fallout.
The studys authors make the case for a combination approach.
Theyre complementary means of redistribution of wealth rather than substitutions for each other, Dr. Christensen said. We cant put all of our eggs in one basket.

Conservatives Are Happier Than Liberals
Second, a much larger body of research has long demonstrated that, all things being equal, conservatives tend to be happier overall than their liberal neighbors are. This is truer for social conservatives than for fiscal conservatives, and the more conservative a conservative is, the happier he or she seems to be. Thats not nothing.
A massive study published earlier this year, involving five different data samples from 16 Western countries spanning more than four decades, adds more meat to this topic. These scholars from the University of Southern California found, as they put it, In sum, conservatives reported greater meaning in life and greater life satisfaction than liberals.
Of course, both qualities are much deeper and richer than happiness itself. This was the robust and consistent finding in the 16 distinct countries examined. It was generally truer for social conservatives than their fiscal brethren, and the greater-meaning-in-life slope spiked upward among individuals who were very conservative.
These scholars explain in their academic parlance that this was true for conservatives at all reporting periods . This is a significant finding. Conservatives experience greater meaning in life across their lives generally, but also daily and at most given moments throughout the day. The researchers conclude these findings are robust and that there is some unique aspect of political conservativism that provides people with meaning and purpose in life.
Conservatives Are Satisfied With Their Family Lives
Do NFL Teams Give More to Republicans or Democrats?
New research released by the Institute for Family Studies demonstrates that conservatives tend to be much more completely satisfied with their family lives compared to their liberal friends and neighbors. Forty-one percent of both liberals and moderates report being completely satisfied with their family lives, while 52 percent of conservatives do.
Conservatives are also vastly more likely than liberals to believe marriage is essential in creating and maintaining strong families. They are also much more likely to actually be married, 62 versus 39 percent, thus benefiting from all the ways marriage improves overall well-being and contentment, personal happiness, economic security, long-term employment, longevity, better physical and mental health, and more.
These scholars explain that regardless of other basic life characteristics such as family income, marital status, age, educational attainment, race/ethnicity, and church attendance, being a conservative increases the odds of being completely satisfied with family life by 23 percent, a considerable positive impact given the centrality of these other life factors. Respected non-government sector newspaper The Philanthropy Chronicle collated the itemized charity deductions on the tax returns of hundreds of millions of Americans between 2006 and 2012, the latest year available. While only about a third of all givers write off their charity expenses, the sums included about 80 percent of all donations in the country.
The Extreme Views Of The Donor Class
The main finding of the research is that the policy views of elite donors are more extreme than the views of partisan voters at large. They also vary widely by party.
If you look at Republican donors, explains Malhotra, they have much more extreme views than ordinary Republicans on economic issues, such as taxation, the redistribution of wealth, and spending on social programs. For example, a good number of Republican voters want universal health care, but very few Republican donors want that. On the other hand, Republican donors and voters have very similar views on social issues, such as abortion and gay marriage. They are not out of line in that arena.
Malhotra and Broockman found a similar pattern among Democratic donors and partisans, but in a mirror image. Democratic donors are, if anything, a little more liberal on economic issues than Democratic partisans, says Malhotra. But their social views are much more liberal than partisans, especially when you look at issues like the death penalty.

Thanks, I try to leave informative bits of information that are skipped over in the drive by soundbites and stereotype attacks that are out there. Sorry I have’t posted more lately. To go beyond that, I think that Republicans- particularly religious republicans give a lot more than Democrats because we beleive we have a moral duty to give to charity. Democrats seem to want to government to control the “giving” even though that actually corrupts the ‘charity’ aspects of the gift when you ‘have to do it’ or the IRS will come knocking.

A change in government didnt seem to change peoples donations of money to charities, but there did seem to be an increase in time given to volunteering when the Coalition and Conservative governments were in power.
The exception to this came from the Greens. When Labour were in power from 1997-2010, Green Party supporters gave 182% more of their income to charity than Labour supporters did although this fell to 85% under the Coalition, and fell again when the Conservatives went into government on their own in 2015.
In terms of volunteering, under a Labour government, Green supporters gave no more of their time than did Labour supporters. After 2015, Greens increased their volunteering time by 56%.

Percentage Of Us Donations Going Tovarious Causes
Nonprofits have grown faster than government and faster than the business sector over the last generation, even during boom periods.
The figures charted here actually underestimate the fraction of American manpower that goes into charitable workbecause they show only paid employment, while volunteers carry out a large share of the labor poured into these groups. Various calculations of the cash value of donated labor suggest that at least an additional 50 percent of output by charities takes place invisibly because it is produced by volunteers. Youll find more statistics on American volunteering in Graphs 8 and 9.
Charitable activity is becoming a bigger and bigger part of Americas total economy. For perspective, consider that annual U.S. defense spending totals 4.5 percent of GDP. The nonprofit sector surpassed the vaunted military-industrial complex in economic scope way back in 1993.
Real Rise In Us Giving
After adjusting for inflation, charitable giving by Americans was close to seven times as big in 2016 as it was 62 years earlier.
Of course, one reason total giving went up is because the U.S. population almost doubled. But if we recalculate inflation-adjusted charitable giving on a per capita basis, we see that has also soared: by 3½ times. Charitable causes are very lucky to have a remarkably expansive American economy behind them, and a standard of living that refuses to stagnate.
What if we calculate charitable giving as a proportion of all national production ? The math reveals that over the last 60 years, donations as a proportion of our total annual output increasedbut only very slightly. For most of the last lifetime, giving has hovered right around 2 percent of our total national treasure.
Two percent of GDP is a huge sum, particularly in comparison to other countries . But it’s interesting that even as we have become a much wealthier people in the post-WWII era, the fraction we give away hasn’t risen. There seems to be something stubborn about that 2 percent rate.
Keep in mind too that religious charities tend to have less access to supplemental funds than other nonprofits. Hospitals and colleges charge users fees to supplement their donated income; other nonprofits sell goods; many museums charge admission; some charities receive government grants. Churches and religious charities, however, operate mostly on their donated funds depicted in this graph.

In November 2012, newly elected Democratic members of the United States Congress got about a week to savor their victories. Then, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee advised them to start hitting the phones for 3-4 hours per day. Who were they supposed to be calling? Mainly, elite donors the fewer than 1% of Americans who give candidates more than $200 in any given election cycle.
It isnt news that politicians court elite donors or that elite donors have greater political access and influence than the typical voter. But, as Stanford Graduate School of Business political economist Neil Malhotra points out in an article recently published in Public Opinion Quarterly, we know remarkably little about what they actually want from government.
This is a particularly relevant issue during the current, seemingly endless, election cycle, in which the battle for control of the executive and legislative branches of the federal government is unusually contentious and fraught with implications for the future of the nation.

Another round of COVID-19 relief from Congress is on life support but not dead, as centrist Democrats have begun to pressure Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi toward compromise. That would mean finding some middle ground between the $3 trillion House HEROES Act, with its bailout for profligate blue-state governments, and the Republican $500 billion skinny bill. If serious negotiations do ensue, there is one provision on which Senate Republicans should not budge: a strong new form of tax relief for individual charitable giving. Its a provision both important in its own right and revealing of a larger philosophical difference between the parties when it comes to charity.
The latest skinny Senate bill would specifically have expanded the so-called above-the-line tax deduction included in the original CARES Act, which authorized a $300 deduction even for those who do not itemize their tax returns. The Senate bill proposed to double that amount for 2020 taxpayers, to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for those filing a joint return. The House bill included no such provision, or even an extension of a less-generous version included in the first COVID-19 relief bill.
The above-the-line deduction proposed by Republicans provides an incentive for all taxpayers, not just the wealthy, to give to charity.

Do Republicans Or Democrats Give More To Charity

Volunteering In The Us
Tumblr media

Married men and women who believe marriage is needed to create strong families have 67 percent greater odds of being completely content with their own family life than married couples who do not believe this.

“Who doesn’t love a story of a humble badass who refuses the easy path of corruption, loses everything, and still refuses to give up?”
Each week we ask the buidlers in the blockchain and cryptocurrency sector for their thoughts on the industry… and we throw in a few random zingers to keep them on their toes!
This week our 6 Questions go to Rob Viglione, co-founder of Horizen.
Rob is the team lead at Horizen, a blockchain platform that aims to enable an application-rich and inclusive ecosystem through leading-edge sidechain solutions. He’s also the CEO and co-founder of Horizen Labs, a company that builds blockchain solutions for businesses.
Formally a trained physicist, mathematician, and military officer, his experience working on satellite radar, space launch vehicles, and combat support intelligence informed much of his understanding of how blockchain technology could change the trajectory of global societies.
Rob holds a Bachelor of Physics and Actuarial Mathematics, an MBA in Finance & Marketing, and a Ph.D. (C) in finance at the University of South Carolina, where he researches cryptocurrency and teaches a class on blockchain in finance.
1 Whats a problem you think blockchain has a chance to solve, but hasnt been attempted yet?
The biggest opportunity for the technology is in reshaping social organization and governance.
What Bitcoin did in creating a competitive market for money can be turned towards competition for governance services, specifically to give people a real voice in their communities and to use incentives to induce socially beneficial behavior.
There are some companies experimenting in this direction, like Colu, that use the underlying technology to help cities engage their citizens by rewarding them for taking certain actions aligned with strategic goals, like promoting sustainability and local commerce. This is just a start, and the real promise is combining this kind of micro engagement with provably fair voting systems, community tokens, and quite simply, an explosion in experimentation.
2 Which movie alternate universe would you most like to live in, and why?
I havent started watching the series yet, but I love the idea in Altered Carbon where consciousness can be transferred to different bodies. Im still waiting for that Singularity moment where who we are can be decoupled from our physical bodies, but paradoxically that would surely change who we are!
3 What is the single most innovative use-case for blockchain you’ve ever seen? It may not be the one likeliest to succeed!
Being part of Horizen, I cant help but be a bit of a zero knowledge cryptography geek and get excited about the core possibilities of blockchain in being universal truth engines.
Take what were doing with Zendoo, Horizens sidechain, as an example. On the surface it appears to be simply a blockchain interoperability protocol, but as we layer in SNARK proving systems for security, it opens the door to any kind of computation or application residing as a sidechain to Horizen and the mainnet ends up validating whatever rules happen to be in that sidechain. I use quotations because what resides on the other end of the system, whats passing a SNARK certificate for verification, need not be a blockchain!
This opens the door to a world of new use cases in which what were doing today in the world of public blockchain simply creates that tamper resistant global truth system that can connect the world.
4 What’s a favorite movie, and choose the single most memorable moment from watching it.
I have to go with Gladiator as being one of those super inspirational movies that never gets old. Who doesnt love a story of a humble badass who refuses the easy path of corruption, loses everything, and still refuses to give up? Our team and community joke around about Horizen being like the honey badger, just going about its business and refusing to give up, but maybe we should be comparing ourselves to Maximus!
The crypto industry has had exuberant highs, gut wrenching lows, and everything in between with plenty of opportunities to take the easy path for quick success. Weve always chosen the harder path, not because were masochistic, but because were playing the long game.
5 What are the top five Crypto Twitter feeds you can’t do without, and why?
Narrowing this down to five is tough, but ranging from interesting to informative (not arranged in that order!) Ill take a stab by saying:
Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) for his passion, wide ranging knowledge, and ethics;
Barry Silbert (@barrysilbert) as a visionary who is plotting this industrys dominance over the coming thirty years (so he filters the short term hype);
Balaji Srinivasan (@balajis) has always been brilliant and interesting but his thought leadership around COVID was spot on;
Erik Voorhees (@ErikVoorhees) for continuing to resonate the same values that brought me into the industry;
And Vitalik Buterin (@VitalikButerin) because hes just so ridiculously smart and intellectually interesting in the things he cares about.
6 Whats the unlikeliest-to-happen thing on your bucket list?
Its hard for me to think of anything as being out of reach, but my brains plasticity would probably argue that my goal of being fluent in a few more languages might not happen! Im excited to see how that works out!

WHOOPS A DOODLE
Okay I tried to attempt making my first lets play video and somehow i forgot to enable game sound, lol! Just hearing my voice over gaping silence would be boring as hell, but especially bad because Ciel Fledge has an absolutely AWESOME soundtrack and at several times I just plain stopped and jammed out, haha! I was so excited for it and it was even better than I expected!!!!
But also I made a few flubs here and there and i was nervous and awkward so its probably best that i rerecord it. Cos I was dumb and decided to name the characters after my ocs and then halfway thru i was like OH WAIT people first discovering me on youtube would have no clue who those people are, lol! Plus I got super hyper attatched to Ciel immediately and felt like I couldnt really roleplay as grumpy Gremory. I immediately started talking to the damn screen already I REALLY CHERISH MY VIRTUAL CHILLLLLD
and AAAA the worldbuilding already has me hooked!! it isnt just a shoddy sci fi setting in name only like one of the Weird Android Games i’m gonna post about soon. like there is SO MUCH deep effort put into how the logistics of the government work in this post apocolyptic world, and loads of optional lil details you could miss! like for example you start the game with one expected intro tutorial mail in your inbox, but also three extra ones in the opened section. And they’re in-progress news updates on the currently unspecified ‘disaster’ that happened to sector 5. All dated several weeks apart and being like ‘praise to our glorious leaders! the battle is going great! don’t question anything!’, ‘never forget the losses we had at this battle today, we will rise like the phoenix and defeat our enemies!’ It raises even more curiosity about what happened, and gives a lil nugget of extra info-now we know the disaster was a battle with an enemy of some sort, or at least that’s how the news team is framing it... hmm...
and AAA ATHE BOSSA NOVA MUSIC I think thats the term for it?? and the really huge resolution awesome graphics??? and the sheer amount of detail to everything??? and holy shit THE FEATURES ALSO AAA THE FEATURES!! you can pick gender neutral pronouns or other titles for your protagonist! and even though they’re a faceless self insert like in the Princess Maker games you actually get to choose stuff to make them be like you! you can pick a bunch of backstory choices that give you different stat boosts to the child you’re raising, and apparantly there will be more choices during the game to change your parent’s stats and thus unlock more boost traits?? they’re a big presence in the game?? in this parenting game?? your parent actually has a stats??? aaaaa just as a person who’s a big fan of this genre i am just SO APPRECIATIVE of the changes they made to the formula! it really shows that the creators know A LOT about the genre and about common player complaints and wishes! like there’s a sort option on the list of jobs and classes and you can do alphabetical and by cost and stuff!!! AND YOU CAN DRESS YOUR KIDDIE UP IN EVEN MORE COSTUMES THAN USUAL!! YOU CAN PICK OUTFIT PARTS SEPARATELY!! ITS SO EXCITING!!!
and AAAA I’m so excited for all the new features that’ve never been in this genre before!! there’s this cool fully animated system for showing your adventure battle things, and a unique match-3 puzzle game battle instead of turn based or top down fighting. And you get ‘battles’ as milestones in your different aspirations too! this unique fight style can work in different ways for stuff like a swimming class test or cooking a cake! and also there’s a way bigger focus on story and worldbuilding and awesomeness!! and you can make friends and your kid can make friends and you can take them as party members together into adventures instead of only as romantic interests to get special endings. And that means there’s also lots of platonic friend choices and even stuff like friend values with her school teacher who will come and fight post apocolypse mutants together, yo! O_O and you can unlock bonus multiplier trait things and equip them to help at training your different stats! you get two of them at the start from your mom/dad/parent’s backstory choices, and then can get more from.. mystery things?? milestones I assume! cos there’s this system of achievements being framed as milestones set by the adoption company, so the government sends you rewards for being an exemplary citizen. There’s so much worldbuilding even in the lil gameplay chocies aaa!!! And you can talk to your lil kiddo and i love her and you can talk to her and do so many more bonding activities than expected and TALK TO HER AAA!! I actually have a form of direct interaction instead of just ordering her to do stuff. And the tutorial seemed to imply that she’ll develop like.. personality values?? And get goals and like or dislike certain jobs?? I’m so excited?? Aaaa???
god this game looks SO GOOD and lol i spent like a whole hour just going SQUEEEEEE at all the cool lookin things and rambling forever and then i lost the footage :P but i’m realizing that maybe a lot of my WOWWWW moments wouldn’t make sense without the context of having played other stuff in the genre like Princess Maker? so maybe i might do a short vid on that after the first episode of ciel fledge or something. not a full LP but just a summary of the goods and bads of that series and why i’m SOOOOOOO relieved to have a new entry in the genre that’s lacking all the.. grossness. cos seriously no matter how addictive the gameplay is, PM has a stupid gainax anime thing of sexualizing the daughter and treating it more like a waifu raising simulator T_T Ciel actually looks like a child and acts like a child and you act like a proper parent!! and its wholesome!! well its got dark stuff but the dark is ‘post apocolypse’ not INCEST! aaaaa im just so happy and i love my virtual daughter and i havent even really started playing yet haha!!!

Star Trek
I have never actually seen Star Trek, I mean I saw some clips here and there, know what it looks like and what some of the main characters are and roughly the plot but I never fully watched it and there is just way too much of it for me to know where to even start. I assume the TV show from the 60′s but Im not sure if most people actually got into it then or through the reboot that happened few years back. Anyway I know that it has some really cool looking aliens in it so intead of writing a review I’ll just have a look at some alien species from within star trek.
Tumblr media
Cheron
First appearance Star Trek: The Original Series “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” (1969)
“When we first met the Cheron, there was only two members of this species left: Bele (played by the Riddler, the great Frank Gorshin) and Lokai. Bele was hunting Lokai whom Bele deemed a traitor after the planet Cheron was wiped out due to centuries of racial wars.
Apparently, some Cheron were black on the left and white on the right while other members of this advanced species possessed the opposite skin alignment. Due to this difference, the entire population — save Lokai and Bele — were eradicated. Bele hijacked the Enterprise and used his vast array of mental capabilities to hunt for Lokai.
The whole opposite was a thinly veiled, but powerful allusion to the destructive potential and sheer idiocy of racism — a message as powerful today as it was in the ’60s. Of course, you know I’m going to say that Mego made a Cheron doll, a toy I treasured in my childhood and called Oreo Man.”
See I like this species because of how simple it looks, like lets be honest it’s literally two dudes with their faces painted black and white straight through the middle. I like how they also explain that there was a lot of stigma beteen the members of the same species based on which side of their face is white and which is black to the point where the entire race killed each other off because of it, bit over the top but makes the point I guess.
“The inhabitants of Cheron were an extremely long-lived race; one representative of them was reputed to have pursued another such representative, an accused criminal from among his people, across the Milky Way Galaxy for over 50,000 years. Unfortunately, the species destroyed itself in a civil war caused by racism. There were only two known survivors by 2268, who the crew of the USS Enterprise believed would ultimately kill each other due to their hate.”
Tumblr media
Species 8472
First Appearance: “Star Trek: Voyager” Part 1 (1997)
“Species 8472 existed in an extra-dimensional bit of hell known as fluidic space. When the Borg discovered the fluidic dimension, the ever deadly race of cybernetic killers busted through the dimensions and attempted to assimilate Species 8472. 8472 was having none of that and fought back, creating weapons that could slay the Borg with ease. In fact, 8472 was able to destroy the Borg Cubes in seconds. (Man, that’s like taking down the Death Star with a single bullet.) Sadly, Species 8472 also took out many innocent Delta Quadrant planets, which forced the crew of Voyager to get involved.
The Borg and Voyager had to form an unlikely alliance to drive Species 8472 back to fluidic space. 8472 was one of the closet things Trek fans ever got to Lovecraft-like cosmic horrors, as even the Borg could not stand up to these waling nightmares. This species appeared a few more times on Voyager until Captain Janeway was able to broker a peace with these terrors that exist behind the fabric of time and space.”
I like this species because although it does have an overall humanoid looking body unlike most Star Trek species it does actually look alien rather than space human. I like how they want to make them creepy and from what I’ve seen they are always kept in shadows, and I also like how much taller they are compared to people just to add to that creepy factor. I want to make the aliens in my story kind of similar to how these guys look. But instead of being kept in shade they will just be a really dark grey or pitch black colour. And I also wanted to make them really tall just like this species but  Species 8472 looks really buff and muscly to be honest meanwhile I want my aliens to be tall and slender.
Tumblr media
Tholians
First appearance: Star Trek: The Original Series “The Tholian Web” (1968)
“Get a load of these psychedelic xenophobes. Yeah, the Tholians might look like a funky black light album cover come to life, but, really, they are brutal, territorial, hateful, and will do anything to keep other species out of Tholian territory. But, hey, they are known for the punctuality, so take heart in the fact that, when they kill you, it’ll be done in a timely fashion.
The Tholians cruise around their sector of space in geometric rainbow ships, making the aesthetic of the race more Yes album cover and less cool space despots. The Tholians first encountered the crew of the Enterprise when the USS Defiant flew too close to Tholian space.
Always protective of their borders, the Tholians phased the Defiant out of real space and into an interspace dimension. Kirk himself was phased out of time and space (for Shatner, it wouldn’t be the first or last time this happened), but Spock and the Enterprise were able to get their captain back and pimp-slap the Tholians.
The Enterprise under Jonathan Archer also ran afoul of these crystalline killers. The Tholians are a great example that in space, threats can come in any shape and even rainbows can kill you.”
“In 2152, the Tholians made an unusual move; they traveled far beyond their territory and actively sought to possess a 31st century Earth vessel discovered by the United Earth starship Enterprise NX-01, under the command of Jonathan Archer. Four Tholian ships intercepted and disabled the combat cruiser Tal'Kir, while it waited to rendezvous with Enterprise. They, in turn, attacked and defeated a Suliban fleet that was in pursuit of the arriving Earth ship. They then successfully removed the pod from Enterprise's possession, only to have the pod return to its proper time moments later. “
I like how original this species looks. I never seen an alien species in any media before that only communicates through technology with other species because they are too scared to actually go out and talk to them while at the same time be ready to anihilate anyone that crosses into their territory. I think it’s a quite good contrast of fearing something but not hesitating to defend yourself from it, it’s like the entire species represents both sides of the fight or flight concept.
Tumblr media
Jem’Hadar
First appearance: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine “The Jem’Hadar” (1994)
“One of the greatest and most efficiently deadly militaries the galaxy have ever seen, the foot soldiers of the Dominion — the Jem’Hadar — are also one of the more tragic species that can be found in the Trekverse.
Jem’Hadar reach maturity in the span of about three days. They are genetically programmed to be the perfect galactic foot soldier by their masters, the Vorta. To insure control, the Vorta have withheld an essential enzyme from the Jem’Hadar genetic makeup. This enzyme is supplied to the Jem’Hadar in the form of The White, a liquid that the Jem’Hadar has filtered into their systems through a tube in their necks. Essentially, Jem’Hadar are drug-addicted soldiers unleashed upon the galaxy.
The Jem’Hadar were the main Dominion force that laid siege to Deep Space Nine during the Dominion War and were nearly unstoppable. The need for The White was a religion to the Jem’Hadar, who became one of the most feared species in any quadrant.
Jem’Hadar are incredibly resilient and possess keen minds that help them plan for battles. Despite all this, most Jem’Hadar die very young due to the fact that they are essentially cannon fodder for the Dominion. Yet, the Jem’Hadar value duty and loyalty above all else as they embrace their lot as pawns of the Dominion. All for The White.”
I really like how this species looks beause from what I read they are bred soldiers so just thinking about the amount of masks and make up that got put into I don’t know even a dozen of these guys is quite astonishing. I like how they made them look like lizards as well with horns and scales it immediately tells the viewer through visuals that the Jem’Hadar are probably a fighter type. Also I like the decision to make them blue in colour which I assume was intentional because it serves two roles, first they are lizards s they are coldbooded making sense why blue is the color they go for and second the fact they are coldblooded could be viewed as a metaphor for the fact that they are soldiers that are bred to kill which kind of rounds up this species. I also would like to compare them to the Clone Troopers from star wars because the backstory for the Jem’hadar is literally the same as for the clones, they are both genetically made and bred to be soldiers for a war where thousands of them die but they still remain loyal to the cause.  But there is a major difference that I feel star trek didn’t look too far into, as Jem’hadar are said to grow up in 3 days and ready to serve meanwhile the clones do age in double the speed of a normal human but they spend their youth training to be soldiers which makes them more believable in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Andorians
First appearance: Star Trek: The Original Series “Journey to Babel” (1968)
“The Andorians are an aggressive yet advanced race that was one of the first alien races that formed the original Federation of Planets with humanity.
The Andorians have distinctive blue skin, white hair, and two protruding antennae. The blue skinned humanoids have an advanced armada and a long history of conflict with the Vulcans. This conflict was put aside as Andorians entered into the Federation and, with it, decades of peace. But peace wasn’t easy, as seen in Star Trek: Enterprise, in which Federation Captain Archer and Andorian Captain Thy’lek Shran developed an adversarial relationship that, thankfully, culminated in a friendship based on mutual respect.
The Andorians are more than a bit xenophobic as they refer to humans and Vulcans as “pink skins” and have a long standing mistrust of everything not Andorian. In fact, the Andorians don’t even trust their offshoot race, the very rarely encountered, white-skinned, psychic Aenar.
Enterprise is a bit unfairly-maligned by some Trekkers, but it will always be the show that took the Andorians from background characters to a narratively-explored race with deep contradictions. Of course, I need to mention that the Andorian was also one of the final Trek dolls Mego produced. It is very sparkly.”
I thought this species was kind of funny in design. They are supposed to be taken really seriously from what I read and the look on that guys face in the picture and are a very agressive and violent species meanwhie their design supports none of that. They have a very cold yet welcoming colour palette and are rocking a white afro with antenas on top of it, like I’m sorry and I know their species is kind of about prejudice but how can they be taken seriously if they dress like knights in space and look like they came back from an 80′s halloween party?
Tumblr media
Jaylah
First appearance: Star Treck Beyond (2016)
“Years prior to her encounter with the USS Enterprise crew, Jaylah and her family, like many before them, were attacked by Krall and imprisoned on Altamid. Jaylah and her family quickly realized that people were routinely taken from Krall's holding cells and killed, so they decided to attempt escape. During the attempt, Jaylah and her father were confronted by Krall's subordinate Manas. Jaylah's father stayed behind to hold off Manas, buying Jaylah time to flee at the cost of his own life. Jaylah discovered the derelict hulk of the Freedom-class USS Franklin and made her home in it. She hid it using holographic technology and set up multiple defensive traps in the surrounding area. Inside the vessel, she discovered a music player, from which she particularly liked music featuring "beats and shouting". She also learned how to speak English from the ship's records. In time, Jaylah became a formidable warrior, skilled in martial arts and in wielding a quarterstaff that doubled as a rifle.”
I feel there isn’t much information about her species because the entire species is literally named after this character and it’s a relativly new character as well so I assume no actual canon explenation exists for her species as of yet. But I do really like how she looks. She has an identical colour scheme to the cheron species I looked at but its executed so much better here with very cool looking face tatoos / markings that make her look actually interesting unlike the cherons that are literally dudes with their faces painted different colour on each side. She kind of reminds me of Darth Maul from star wars with the face markings but there they look so interesting like theres just something about that cold white with deep navy blue tinted black on top of it that just catches the eye more. I also like her eye contacts, I don’t know why I just feel the yellow eyes just complete the look nicely.

Journal: March 29, 2001
• Place order to sell position in London Pacific Group (LDP) at the market. • Place order to sell position in Spherion (SFN) at the market. • Place order to buy 500 shares of GTSI Corp. (GTSI) at 4 7/8 limit, good until canceled.
Real stocks, real profit, real value My short of Adobe (ADBE) was not triggered. But I do recommend rereading my argument for doing so. I am not short Adobe in real life either, but the same logic applies to many, many of the tech stocks out there. I do not believe we are near a bottom yet because in the cold light of a bear market these types of things -- such as dilutive options compensation and hiding mistakes with charge-offs-matter. The greater fool theory no longer rules. What a relief
Now, maybe, finally, we have a time for rational stock picking. If the market begins the first multi-decade sideways run of the new century (there were two such runs last century – both times after extreme valuation bubbles), then the surest way to profit will be to buy stocks of incontrovertible value. Stocks of profitable companies that can be bought for their level of earnings per share five to 10 years out meet this criterion. In this vein, buy 500 more shares of GTSI Corp. (GTSI). This is one of the cheapest stocks in my universe, with the best story. They distribute technology products to the military, the IRS and others. Over $650 million in sales and a $35 million market cap. No debt. Net net value (net working capital less all liabilities) is north of $6. And they will earn over a buck a share this year. They earned a buck a share last year, but that was with a tax loss shelter from the era before new management took over. They have seen steady gross margin improvement, and even with full taxation this year, they expect earnings to beat last year’s untaxed income. Because of the contractual nature of the business, there is some visibility, and yes, there’s growth.
The company just won a dispute over a large contract to supply products and services to the government. While awards within the contract are still open to competition between the company and IBM (IBM), GTSI should do well. This is a relationships business, and GTSI competes well because they have the relationships with the government decision makers and the willingness to get into all the government paperwork. It is a low, low margin business in which the largest portion of capital is usually tied up in working capital. To the extent that new technologies help them squeeze working capital, cash will be freed up for other uses. The company is looking to do its first-ever road trip and broadcast the better business practices that now hold sway over all that revenue.
Insiders were buying at lower levels, as was I. For a few years it was a lock of a trade from 2 5/8 to about 4. Lacy Linwood, the largest shareholder, has been buying in the open market and was one of the founders of Ingram Micro (IM). Having a large, non-management shareholder with a large, illiquid stake is catalyst waiting to happen, though without guarantees. His background confirms that Ingram and its ilk are not the competitive threats here, as one might think.
Undoing some mistakes Investment managers are bound to be wrong many, many times in their lives. This is a business of managing emotion as much as managing money, and taking one’s lumps is the surest path to a more erudite view. So it is time to own up to a few mistakes. In my last entry, I outlined my pessimistic outlook for technology shares based on the devious, unfriendly manner in which many tech managers try to hide the truth from shareholders. Two of my holdings do not reflect that pessimism.
DiamondCluster (DTPI) and London Pacific Group (LDP) were very big timing mistakes. The same mistakes I made at the beginning of the last round -- being overly optimistic as a new round gets under way, and under some self-imposed pressure to make some moves. Optimism in such cases is rarely warranted. Nearly without fail, egg will befall one’s face. With stocks in freefall, I thought, "Well, these two are interesting situations and we have at least six months." Unfortunately, every time I think like that I become cavalier in my timing. The fact of the matter is I should always wait for my rules to kick in – and that includes waiting for falling knives to lay motionless on the floor before trying to pick them up. I violated these rules, and now I’ve lost two fingers to a couple of very sharp blades. There is value in these companies at current levels, however, and I’ll hold DiamondCluster for now.
I am selling London Pacific Group at the market open because of something I call the "5 to 3" effect. Illiquid stocks falling beneath 5 often fall much further because of margin calls that kick in in the 3-5 price range. Forced selling in illiquid stocks is a recipe for price risk, so I have found it prudent to get out of stocks as they cross below 5. It is a very rare case that I pay attention to absolute share prices, but this is one of them.
I should note that DiamondCluster is about to lose significant European business because of Ericsson’s (ERICY) cost-cutting and the European slowdown. This non-U.S. business had shielded DiamondCluster from some of the rampant devaluation in the e-consultancy sector. Not anymore. Nevertheless, I expect both layoffs and quite significant cash drain over the coming quarters at DiamondCluster. At current prices, however, this pessimism is largely discounted. Whether DiamondCluster will recover before the end of the Strategy Lab round is a matter in serious doubt. Moreover, DiamondCluster has a big options compensation problem, much as I described with Adobe. Nevertheless, the value five years or so out should be greater than it is now, and the company has become an attractive acquisition target with a load of cash on the balance sheet. The earnings power in good times is roughly about 33% of the current share price net of cash, with no debt and a resilient business model.
An event play, sans the event Sell Spherion (SFN) at the market open. This was an event-driven value play, and the event occurred after I submitted the story. In this case, the event did not look like I thought it would look. Too late to cancel the story, so the order went through and I bought a position. One more reason I say learn what you can from me, but don’t imitate me. Now I’m selling it because in event-driven investment if the event does not turn out as predicted, the only prudent thing to do is to exit the position. Spherion is likely to announce horrendous numbers, and there is price risk in the stock. A good argument can be made that it is only fairly valued in the 7’s, not undervalued. To justify a sell I must only be able to make such an argument.
What happened? As this was an event-driven value trade, for the investment to work we had to have the event go off nearly as planned. In this case, the event -- a float of subsidiary Michael Page in London -- did not go off nearly as planned. Actually, the pricing still hit the bottom of my model, so there was some safety in the price I paid given the information I had.
The circumstantial evidence points to some skullduggery, however. Michael Page's officers had some incentive to have the offering priced low. Now any options that they get -- and that they can use to incentivize employees -- will be priced low. Moreover, they had incentive to do an offering rather than to sell to others in a private transaction worth as much as 25% more. The incentive involved the fact that Page management was getting 6% of the company and there was a large 12% overallotment for the underwriters. Unfortunately, there was every incentive, except fiduciary responsibility to the shareholders, to price this offering low. Michael Page is a good buy now over on the London exchange. I doubt that it will stay under 200p long.
Also, it appears that Ray Marcy, the CEO of Spherion, now wishes to use the proceeds to pay off some debt and then hold cash for the downturn. This is opposed to the previous statement "pay down all debt and buy back stock." The two statements imply drastically different levels of confidence in the business. One potential catalyst -- again, this was an event-driven trade/special situation -- was that the company would at least support its stock in the market. That would be relatively easy to do given the stock’s illiquidity. A buyback of 30% to 40% of the capital stock could even push the moderately higher, and with some more optimistic projections, build more intrinsic value per share. It is not to be.
A board member who was selling large chunks of stock in Spherion during the months leading up to the offering could be a target of shareholder scorn. The prevalent idea was that this was distressed selling for him because of personal financial difficulties. Even if true, he engaged in massive dumping of large blocks in the months leading up to some very bad news. Spherion has never been the best-managed company, but the degree of funny business here is illuminating as to what management will do with future cash flows.
Event-driven trades occasionally don't work out in the short-term, but what you want is a fundamental floor to your valuation in the worst possible case. I think we have that here, and it is around the mid 7’s. But I’m not hanging around for the questionable appreciation potential and sure-fire bad news that management will announce regarding earnings within the next two or three weeks.
Also, before Michael Page, the company had significant difficulties producing free cash flow. If they just sold off all their free cash flow production, the situation could deteriorate, and we can't know this for certain yet. This situation would have been mitigated if they had received $300 million more in the offering, as we were recently told to expect. Instead, we are left with the image of a desperate seller in need of much more shareholder-friendly management and a better economic outlook.

[+] Up to now there ate cons.
Geminii vs Other Tools – Comparison
Compare Geminii to the rest and it’s a no-brainer. Consider the average cost of the essential tools you need to profit from list building: without geminii, you’d pay around $273 – $374 per month, plus an upfront investment in traffic training.
Geminii Review – My Final Thoughts
The money is and always will be in the list, “59% of people say marketing emails influence their purchase decisions” and “99% of consumers check their email every day”.
List marketing pays an average of $40 per $1 in for ever. With a wired slot machine, you can’t do any better. It’s the most powerful way you’ll ever find online to make money.
Since your list is your own on-demand private traffic source. And no other single medium in the world has greater scope than email: it’s used by more than half the earth.
For optimization, social media, video, messenger, SMS & push marketing combined doesn’t reach email. How did you arrive today at this page?
Potential big money or big time problems? Most people who try to create list & email marketing fail miserably, as simple as it sounds.
Because you need more than just the right parts … you need those parts to synch together perfectly.
[+] The right traffic
[+] The right landing page software
[+] The right email delivery software aka autoresponder
Yet most people never know the one thing … They desperately need:
Conversion tools that convert your promo messages to cash on request.
For all these lists building essential elements working together, you risk constantly competing for traffic, never getting a fully competitive list, finally giving up on your online dreams.
What ‘push button profits’ actually look like if you have an ever-growing subscriber list …
And the most effective tools for promoting them … Profits will only be yours by clicking the Send button. Picture your “job” in sending one email over coffee in the morning. Then, after having enjoyed your day doing whatever you want … Going back and finding hundreds , even thousands of dollars in your account.
If that sounds amazing, then you see exactly the right deal.

Geminii F.A.Q.
What makes Geminii different and better than other list building softwares?
Geminii provides all the premium resources you need to build lists, and make a profit. You usually have to “Put together” various elements for other items, such as autoresponders, page builders, email software, and traffic … Which also means $100s of per month dollars. For geminii, you get full access to everything for one low price.
Will I need to download any of the softwares? Will they work on my Mac?
No and oh! All the software included is cloud-based, and there is nothing to install and operate on any operating platform. Easy & direct, right out of the box.
I’m a complete beginner. Will this work for me?
YES, all you do is clearly follow the step-by – step instructions. We have been working incredibly hard to make this the planet’s most beginner-friendly list marketing program. And if you ever have a problem there is world-class support to help.
How much time does this take?
This varies according to individual effort and previous experience. But several beta testers reported positive list building campaigns that would run within an hour of their first login. It takes about 15 minutes to send out a regular promo email from there.

Do Republicans Or Democrats Give More To Charity
New Post has been published on https://www.patriotsnet.com/do-republicans-or-democrats-give-more-to-charity/

Also Check: What Did Republicans Gain From The Compromise Of 1877
How Political Ideology Influences Charitable Giving

Married men and women who believe marriage is needed to create strong families have 67 percent greater odds of being completely content with their own family life than married couples who do not believe this.

Poorer Conservatives More Generous Than Wealthy Liberals New Study

About Patt Morrison
Patt Morrison
The ongoing calls for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to issue additional years of his tax returns havent ceased.
Romney has faced criticism for his reasoning that doing so would violate his religious freedom because it would reveal exactly how much money he has tithed to his Mormon church. Democrats continue to press the issue, but should they be so vocal about taking a look at charitable contributions?
According to philanthropy.com, a website that tracks charitable giving state-by-state, Utah tops the list of giving, with residents donating 10.2 percent of their discretionary income to charities. Utah is a solidly red state and went for John McCain 62 percent to 24 percent in 2008 and it has a large Mormon contingent.
Blue state New Hampshire is bringing up the rear with residents of the The Granite State donating only 2.5 percent of their discretionary income to philanthropic organizations. But if you tweak the numbers to remove donations to religious charities the giving evens out some.

Anonymoussaid…
Just this weekend, in an ongoing election year discussion with my sister, I stated my experience is and has been when Democrats see others money or wealth, they want it and/or want to tell them what to do with it… I was also informed that others are not like me. Yours being the very first site I checked regarding this subject, I would like to thank you for the confirmation that this happens elsewhere, just not in my “little” world. Bellyburke
Anonymoussaid…
Thanks, I try to leave informative bits of information that are skipped over in the drive by soundbites and stereotype attacks that are out there. Sorry I have’t posted more lately. To go beyond that, I think that Republicans- particularly religious republicans give a lot more than Democrats because we beleive we have a moral duty to give to charity. Democrats seem to want to government to control the “giving” even though that actually corrupts the ‘charity’ aspects of the gift when you ‘have to do it’ or the IRS will come knocking.

Giving Under Different Governments
Do Your Political Views Make You Charitable

A new working paper asks whether people on the left or right give more to charity
Student volunteers at the University of Essex
In 2017, people in the UK gave over £10 billion to charity, and ONS figures suggest that unpaid labour in the form of volunteering is worth over £20 billion.
But what motivates us to give our money or time? Theres existing research which shows that we give in order to feel good, or to look good to others, but we wanted to look at another motivation: our political leanings.

12/29/10 – Stossel, Republicans donate much more than Democrats
Some liberals might argue that religious, conservative republicans are happier simply because they are mentally ill; they are disassociated with reality and just dont know any better. They claim this is even demonstrated in scientific research. In fact, one articles first line in reporting this research was quite blunt: Anyone whos wanted to dismiss Republican politics as straightforwardly mean now has some data to back them up. Lands sakes.
Some research did appear to show this, and it got a great deal of press. Retraction Watch, however, tells us it had some serious mistakes in its calculations, and an erratum was published by the American Journal of Political Science. In fact, Retraction Watch reports, The descriptive and preliminary analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed. The data shows a strong correlation between liberalism and psychoticism, not conservatism. This correction was not widely reported for some curious reason.
Finally, if you had to guess who are more generous with their money and volunteering their time to help those in need, would you guess Democrats or Republicans? Of course, its Democrats. Republicans only care for themselves and their own pocketbook. In fact, dont they want to actually punish the poor for not working hard enough? Well, you would be right if stereotypes were the arbiter of truth. But what does objective research tell us?

What Elite Donors Want
Big-money donors, both Democrat and Republican, not only have more political influence than the average voter, they also have more extreme beliefs.
The outsize political influence of elite donors, whose views tend to be more extreme than that of mainstream voters, partly explains why political polarization is on the rise. | Illustration by Alvaro Dominguez
Do Democrats Hate Charity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
