Evie’s and Doug’s relationship develops the best, Pt. 2
So, here I go:
So, picking up from where Pt.1 left off, Evie and Doug made up after the coronation and before the after party.
Tumblr media
In Descendants 2, their relationship took the backseat to all the Mal/Ben drama, mostly Mal, Ben was a total idiotic care bear. And that’s okay, I am not complaining at all about Devie being somewhat benched. This is like Disney channel having its own trope of sidelining characters, story arcs and plot lines or just disregarding them completely.
Not the first time, won’t be the last. You get used to it, eventually. (Salty at High School Musical 13 years later, yes, that’s who I am)
You know, as they did with Evie’s intelligence, boxing her into the fashion corner only. Which I enjoyed, but there’s more to Evie than that and she could be both. And they butchered her further in Descendants 3, more on that later as well.
Also, unpopular opinion, Evie and Carlos are much better lead characters with better arcs and Jay fucking deserved better. Mal can go suck it.
Anyway, back to the topic:
Jumping six months later, Evie and Doug are running a business together from her dorm room. Her designing and him handling her finances, you know, like the power couple that they are. Right off the bat, couple goals already.
Tumblr media
Which should show how much they both do trust each other.
That should be surprising, given who their parents are. Again, everyone seems to forget that out of all the AKs/VKs couples shown in the movies, only Doug’s and Evie’s actually come from the same story. They should be enemies. They should not be trusting each other so much to the point where they share a business, let alone be in love. That, I suspect, might have slowed their relationship progress a bit. And it’s a very legit reason to be wary of someone.
Scenes breakdown:
Now, their first scene together hits with a banger right away, them sharing an inside joke.
Tumblr media
Six months into their (unlabeled?) relationship, Doug is shown to still be insecure about being with her. Actually, about HER being with him. Again, Evie is royal (whether Audrey likes it or not), she is ambitious, hardworking and will go places. And he’s, well...
Doug.
Tumblr media
He’s telling her that through her hard work and dedication to her craft, she could be getting everything she had always wanted after all without needing a prince or marrying into it as she was bred and conditioned by her mother to do. That she can get there on her own and she doesn’t need to be a trophy wife. Also, offhandedly telling her that he will help her get there, that they could get there together.
Tumblr media
And her tender, reassuring reply is that she doesn’t need a prince because she has him. Like, come on, that’s all the vindication anyone would ever need.
Tumblr media
I mean, I would love for someone, anyone, to look at me the way Evie looks at him at that moment. Like, boy, you got nothing to worry about, not one thing. Just look at her face, please.
Tumblr media
Honestly, in less than thirty seconds, their relationship progressed more than Mal’s and Ben’s relationship did in that entire movie. I mean they had a conflict and they solved it in half a minute while Mal spent the entire movie erasing everything good about her already-established character. Ben deserves better.
So, moving on.
The next development in their relationship arc comes in a scene with no Evie whatsoever. Doug encounters Jay and Carlos and asks if they had seen Evie. Let’s break this one down, yeah?
Tumblr media
Doug is shown to be insecure about being the lesser of the two in his relationship with Evie and believes she deserves better. He is not the most confident individual, directly in contrast with Evie, who has this ridiculously confident aura around her.
And Jay and Carlos lying to him about Evie’s whereabouts couldn’t have helped. Especially because I believe at that point, Doug had become friends with Jay and Carlos to some degree. He wasn’t only questioning his relationship with Evie, but his friendship with Jay, Carlos and by association, possibly, Mal.
So, anyway, the crew got King Care Bear back and they arrive to Auradon prep the next morning. And Doug shows up, bowtie gone, disheveled and sleep-deprived to question whether Evie was seeing someone else or not.
Tumblr media
He was in panic over this, and she replies earnestly that she wasn’t, in fact, seeing someone else and she was on the isle with the crew saving Ben. And kind of calls him stupid for ever thinking that.
And Doug doesn’t even care about the whole Ben thing. which I find awfully hilarious.
To sum up:
Slow progress aside, Doug believed in Evie’s business, creativity and ability to be financially stable enough to buy her own castle before it even crossed her own mind. Just because he knew it was something she always wanted. He supported her wholeheartedly, to the point where he was okay working with her, handling finances and deliveries. And probably investing as well.
The movie did go over Doug’s very obvious insecurities when it comes to his relationship with her. Made it obvious that he was flawed, normal and human, more so than any of the other characters. He gets jealous because he sees himself as the less in the relationship and his reaction is justified, to be honest.
I mean, this is Evie we’re talking about. One doesn’t just LET Evie go, that’s stupid. You don’t lose people like her. No one deserves Evie, she’s too good for all of them. But it’s not about deserving.
I believe they were already in love at this point (such a healthy relationship, too), but reached a mutual mental (or off-screen, really) decision to buckle down, take things slow and see where things go. This is because of who they are and how they came to be, not because of anything else. Actual brain cells, here.
And not everyone is Mal and Ben. Nothing against them, but they are under pressure, with their relationship being public and all. There’s always a sense of urgency with those two.
And with these gifs I rest my case:

Off topic, but please!!
Has anyone noticed that, aside from being a movie musical, Did I Mention and Be Our Guest are the only canon-confirmed numbers? Be Our Guest was performed for family day as some form of (cringe) entertainment.
BUT Did I Mention is the only one that was deadass performed into a legit microphone? And then rearranged for the proposal. Am I the only one seeing Ben rushing out from the dressing room before the game to find Doug to ask him if he could have the band play it after the game? And then a year later gathering everyone else, letting them know he was proposing and then being all like; “Doug, I need you.”
Doug is Ben’s wing man, and that is that.

SIS have you read the summary for what Escape from the Isle of the Lost is about? Because I have some feelings! I won't say anything in here however in case you haven't. If you do wanna see the summary its on the JustJaredJr website.
Hi Anon! I have read the summary, but I haven’t, ya know, READ the Summary. However, I say now would be a good a time as any to go through it line by line :)
Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos may have once been the baddest of the bad, but their wicked ways are (mostly) behind them—and now graduation is almost here! But before the seniors can don their custom-designed caps and gowns, courtesy of Evie, they’ve got an epic plan to put into action.
I’m gonna start this by saying my Grammarly check told me ‘baddest’ is not a word…what the fuck Disney.
Onto the good stuff: Yay, these adult-lookin’ teens are finally gonna graduate! That means we can say safely that most of them are 18 by D3, which is probably gonna be about graduation. And of course, the custom caps and gowns are gonna be colorful and fun if they’re designed by Evie.
There are tons of villain kids on the Isle of the Lost who are eager for their chance to come to Auradon Prep – even Celia, Dr. Facilier’s trickster daughter, wants in on the deal! – and Mal’s crew is using their upcoming visit to the Isle to help make it happen. But Auradon’s biggest threat is still at large…
YAY! MORE VILLAIN KIDS TO BRING OVER! And I am SO here from Celia’s first impression being ‘trickster.’ I’m here to protect her at all costs!
The Core Four are making an UPCOMING visit to the Isle–possibly also build up for the visit to be in D3, especially with those promo clips we saw of them on the Isle.
Now for the biggest threat…*sigh*…I know who it’s gonna be, and I dunno why I hate it so much. Like yeah, she is the ONLY threat to Auradon at the moment, so it is the BIGGEST, but if they tryna make her the Big Bad in D3 imma throw hands bc she is JUSTIFIED!
Trapped on the other side of the barrier, Uma is more desperate than ever to get her long-awaited revenge against Mal. When she discovers an underground lair belonging to Hades, god of the underworld, Uma realizes she’s found the perfect partner in crime. Together, they can defeat Mal, bring down the barrier, and escape the Isle for good.
I may just be a biased Uma Stan that thinks she is less of a villain, more of an antagonist, but I just hate how they say here that she’s ‘desperate’ and that her revenge is just against Mal? Am I the only one who feels like her main grudge is against all of Auradon and her thing against Mal is additional? I wanna know what you guys think about that because I just don’t like the way that line reads.
Okay, I’ve read the “Trapped on the other side of the barrier” line like five times now and I still don’t know which side she is ACTUALLY TRAPPED ON! If she made it back onto the Isle, how? I’d like to know! But she could be trapped outside of the barrier, and honestly, that’s the only way she could still be a BIG threat to Auradon. By trapped, it’d be like being stuck between a rock (the barrier) and a hard place (Auradon out for her arrest). Uma could find an underground lair underwater because she’s Ursula daughter, so that’d be dope. How Hades has an Underground layer outside of the Isle, well, he’s a fucking god. I wouldn’t doubt it.
Uma and Hades Team Up can be good or bad. On one hand, I would love to see them reference Hades as Uma’s uncle. I know that the whole ‘Ursula and Triton are Poseidon’s kids’ thing is never fully acknowledged in The Little Mermaid Movie, but it isn’t refuted either, and since it’s canon in the musical and was in the original movie notes, I think it’d be cool.
However, I’m worried about a) Uma being corrupted into a mindset that it’s “One for all and all for me.” or be) Uma getting emotionally manipulated.
If Uma’s stuck alone with Hades for too long, hearing his ramblings of betrayal and how living alone is better and blah blah, Captain “My crew is the only real family I have” Uma might doubt her own beliefs. This is all kinda speculative, but we can all agree that Uma is a very crew-oriented person. She doesn’t like being the loner, but Hades’ ramblings of power in solitude might change her for the worse, and I ain’t tryna read a book where Uma frightfully questions her relationships with her crew like Gil and *ahem* HARRY!
On the other hand, Uma might go along with what Hades is doing for the common goal and because she’s at a low point (in which case, desperate is an appropriate word). Hades, however, is using his familial ties to a sea witch on the outside of the barrier for his own personal gain. This way, when Uma demands her split of the deal (probably freedom for the Isle), Hades, who really only wanted to free himself and dominate the world, is like “lmao u thought i was serious? silly niece, honesty is for heroes” in which case I will cry because I am SICK of people betraying Uma.
Also, Uma’s perfect partner-in-crime has and always will be Harry.
Mal and Uma have a score to settle, and they’ll come face to face in an explosive underwater battle that could determine the fates of Auradon and the Isle of the Lost once and for all.
If this is supposed to mean that dumb Under The Sea thing, that was a friggin dream. Also, if Uma and Mal are fighting in this book (not in a dream), we all know Mal is gonna either win or retreat since she’s the main character. If you’re tryna tell me that Mal would beat Uma underwater, Imma have some serious bones to pick.
Best case scenario: They fight and argue while they are fighting, and Mal is like “why do u hate me so much omg leave auradon alone if u just hate me” and Uma legit is just done with her and is all “Bish I’m fighting for the vks u abandoned, u just happen to be in my way (high key I also hate u)” and that just makes Mal question everything and then they both retreat after a dangerous stalemate, and that’ll build the foundation for their alliance in D3.
That’s all for my analysis of the Summary! Lemme know what you guys think, if you agree or disagree, or anything you wanna say about the upcoming book!

I like the ship, I really do. If you don't mind can you do that ship list you had before with CJ/Jane?
1.Whois the most affectionate?:
Jane.CJ takes a long while to learn how to say “I love you” with beingcoerced, or feeling the instinctive unease at “showing weakness.”The first time she manages to say it unprompted, though, Jane demandsthat she tell it over and over again, much to CJ’s embarrassment.
2.Bigspoon/Little spoon?:
CJis always the big spoon. Jane enjoys feeling safe and protected by a“ferocious scourge of the seas” and CJ likes feeling in control and being protective over her “beloved First Mate.”
3.Mostcommon argument?:
CJ’smischievous habits and tendency to get into all manner of minortrouble. Jane keeps telling her she doesn’t HAVE to be a pirate, but so many years of buccaneer training and habit takes a while toundo.
4.Favoritenon-sexual activity?:
Stylingand brushing CJ’s hair.
Janehas long been jealous of the many royals who could pull off longhair, due to a mix of not being able to use her magic to modify herhair, and being stuck with the current bob style she had because itdoesn’t grow naturally unlike the others, because Fae Mortal BodyBiology is weird like that.
CJenjoys letting Jane brush, braid, and experiment with her hair, as itmakes Jane happy, and helps her live out at least one part of thechildhood they never had.
5.Whois most likely to carry the other?:
Jane, with the caveat that this is usually hauling CJ away from whatevertrouble she had gotten herself in this time. Jane may be tiny, butyou better believe that mortal body of hers is a LOT stronger than itlooks.
6.Whatis their favorite feature of their partner’s?:
Asmentioned, Jane loves CJ’s hair.
Conversely,CJ really likes staring into Jane’s eyes: “like getting a lost ina sea whose depths I’ll never see nor be able to understand.”They’re also her most common reminder of the fact that like her,Jane has in fact seen shit.
7.What’sthe first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings forthe other?:
CJpanics, threats, and tries to convince herself it’s all still aremnant of her playing with Jane’s feelings and she’s notLEGITIMATELY falling in love with her, pirates don’t do that; theylove passionately for as long as they’re in port, then they leavetheir lovers high and dry, till the next time their paths may crossor to be pined for during a cold night at sea, or when they’retaking care of their bastard child.
Asa result, she hangs out with Jane as much as possible, going out ofher way to arrange things together, to ensure that she mostdefinitely doesn’t love Jane, they’re totally going to enjoythese things as friends slowly piecing their strange friendship backtogether, she’s totally not asking Jane out on dates and trying todo something legit this time, nope.
Piratesdon’t do that, yep-yep.
Janespends a lot of late nights in her room ruminating, reflecting, andasking around (anonymously, or with the other Faeries who know tokeep it out of FG’s earshot or knowledge) about advice on whetheror not it’s actually true, and after the initial ruse is revealed,if she should give CJ a second chance.
Asa result, she goes along with all of CJ’s plans, because she canfind out if she wants to be friends or girlfriends, legitimately thistime.
8.Nicknames?& if so, how did they originate?:
“Captain”for CJ, sarcastically said by Jane whenever she tells her about herlatest endeavour that will definitely end badly. Example: “Captain,as your First Mate, I have to strongly suggest against crashing the Chocolate Ball.”
“FirstMate” for Jane, playfully said by CJ in response to Jane’swarnings. Example: “Well, it’s a good thing you’re just theFirst Mate, and I’m Captain, ‘cause we are swinging straight intothat giant chest of gold-wrapped chocolate coins!”
Othersinclude Blue (for Jane), Callie (for CJ), Baby Jane (for CJ), andMommy (for Jane).
9.Whoworries the most?:
Jane.
CJhas a very laissez-faire towards trouble, always figuring she’llfind some way to get out of her current predicament soon enough; thataside, she doesn’t have the lack of need for sleep, food, orbathroom breaks that Jane has, so she’s too tired or dedicatingmost of her energies towards getting into trouble than worrying aboutit.
10.Whoremembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?:
Jane,by virtue of being unable to forget anything.
11.Whotops?:
Jane.
12.Whoinitiates kisses?:
Jane.See above for the “most affectionate” question.
13.Whoreaches for the other’s hand first?:
CJ,though that was mostly a manipulative tactic by abusing the humaninclination to trust people who touch you. She took Jane’s hand tostop her from saying “No” when she was initially flirting withher as a playful, mean-spirited seduction.
Afterthe big Reveal, it’s Jane, showing that she’s forgiven CJ enoughto want to touch her again.
14.Whokisses the hardest?:
CJ.“She’s smooth like good whiskey, warm like a shitty barrel ofgrog left under the sun, and gets me drunker than either.”
15.Whowakes up first?:
Jane, but she doesn’t really sleep in the first place.
16.Whowants to stay in bed just a little longer?:
Jane.
CJ is always up and eager at the crack of dawn to get to work, makinggood time out of whatever hours of the day she has.
17.Whosays I love you first?:
Illegitimately,it was CJ, again to try and seduce Jane and coerce her into arelationship.
Afterthat, again, it’s CJ, as Jane specifically refused to say it forfear that CJ might not feel the same still.
18.Wholeaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does itusually say?):
Jane.
“Iknow what you did, and if I don’t, I will find out, so don’t trywhatever shit it is you’re chewing over with this, Captain.”
-First Mate Jane
19.Whotells their family/friends about their relationship first?:
Jane.
Againsther better judgment, she decides to go to the local relationshipexpert and student guidance counselor, Fairy Godmother, and BOY HOWDYwas that a bad idea.
20.Whatdo their family/friends think of their relationship?:
FairyGodmother regrets everything, but understands that the VKs alsodeserve a chance at love, even though she’s going to be screaminginternally for all eternity that she was directly responsible for theease, convenience, and frequency with which her daughter and hergirlfriend can go “below deck.”
Hookis ambivalent towards Jane, so long as CJ knows she will have toditch her the moment she tries to make her do something like settledown and hang up her captain’s hat for good. He’s no stranger tohaving been in love, so he doesn’t really blame her for wanting tobe in a relationship, and assumes that like him, it’s onlytemporary.
21.Whois more likely to start dancing with the other?:
CJ.Jane is still rather shy about this, but CJ has grown up in bars anddecks where bawdy shanties, drinking, and dancing was the norm.
22.Whocooks more/who is better at cooking?:
Jane.
She’shad plenty of time to experiment and has used baked goods as a formof apology and bribery over the years. She can’t really enjoy foodthe way we do, as a big part of the enjoyment of a meal comes fromthe satisfaction of feeling full, and what Jane has is an essentiallybottomless, magical void.
Ona side note, CJ will happily eat anything Jane makes.
23.Whocomes up with cheesy pick up lines?:
CJ.
“I’min the mood to get drunk on booze, and on your love—care to joinme?”
“Avast!A see lovely siren yonder, luring me in with her beauty.”
“Anychance I can have a go at unlocking your treasure chest?”*
*“FUCKING HELL, WHO DESIGNED THESE BRA CLASPS?!”
24.Whowhispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear duringinappropriate times?:
CJ.Jane gets easily flustered by it. During appropriate times, it’sJane.
25.Whoneeds more assurance?:
CJ.She’s constantly in conflict about giving up her lifelong dream ofpirateering for a much more responsible, legal life with Jane. Atleast with Jane, she knows she only has one destiny to worry about.
26.Whatwould be their theme song?:
“Undercover”by Kehlani.
“One way or another, I’m in love with you/ Slidingunder covers, undercover/ They don’t want to see you happy, we say‘Fuck You!’”
27.Whowould sing to their child back to sleep?:
CJ.Hook made a point of teaching and singing his kids all manner of seashanties, of lost loves, of great treasures, and just enjoying lifeas a pirate out on the open seas.
28.Whatdo they do when they’re away from each other?:
Janeengages in all manner of hobbies to try and pass the time, becauseshe’s got all of eternity to waste and no real pressure to achieveanything.
CJgets into all manner of crimes and mischief, because Jane is prettymuch 90% of her impulse control.
29.oneheadcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart:
Afterseveral years in Auradon and learning all her options to becomebetter than a criminal, CJ finally womans up and tells her fatherthat she is formally going to be joining the Auradonian Royal Guard, the Naval division, to explore the world, sail the seas, and build upcredits for college.
Hooksmiles bitterly, tells her that is her choice, and that from thispoint on, his daughter Calista Jane Hook has died in his eyes, andthat if their paths will ever cross, she should expect no mercy fromhim, and neither should he show her that.
CJspends the night drinking to the memory of the late CJ, Future PirateQueen, killed by the stroke of a pen signing an application form tothe Auradon City Naval Training Base, survived by Calista Jane“Callie” of the Lost.
30.oneheadcanon about this OTP that mends it:
Janecarries and drives home CJ after she finally gets black-out drunk. The next morning, she does everything in her power to sober her thefuck up, cleans up all the spilled alcohol, drool, and vomit fromher, brushes and neatly braids her hair, and drags her over to thenearest full length mirror.
Shehelps her shrug off her red “Captain’s” coat and fold it up forthe last time.
Then, she helps her put on her new coat: blue, with gold buttons, and theinsignia of the Auradon Royal Guard, Navy Division on the collar.
Janekisses Callieon the cheek, before they both look at their reflections in themirror.
“Lookinggood, Captain,”Jane says.
Calliesmiles. “Please, it’s just Ensign. For now.”
