How to romanticise Spring:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some ideas and things you can do to romanticise the Spring season 🫧˚˖𓍢ִ໋🌷͙֒✧˚.🧚🏻‍♀️.
Spring Wardrobe - Spring is the perfect time to start integrating new pieces into your wardrobe. Long flowing dresses, maxi skirts, pretty blouses, milkmaid dresses/shirts, rompers, dungarees, mini skirts, cami’s and so much more. Make sure to add a pair of new Spring pumps (Mary janes are perfect) and some pretty floral hair bandanna’s and flower crowns in there too. Pastel pinks, yellows, blues, greens and white fit perfect for this time of year, along with patterns and materials like floral print and lace 🩰
Change your eating habits. Put away the comfort food from winter and indulge in the delicious delicacy’s of Spring. Fresh fruit and vegetables can make endless recipes for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, sweet things like Oatmeal, Honey, gelato and any particularly sweet fruits are perfect for this time of year 🍒🥗🍵
Consume Spring media 💐 The media you consume affects your mood, consuming uplifting Spring content will not only make you feel happier in yourself, but will also make you look forward to and romanticise the season more. I have a list of Movies, TV shows & books you can consume in Spring that I will be uploading shortly ☀️
Read Spring books. There are SO many out there, classics are perfect for this time of year but any whimsical, forest-core, fantasy story’s like “The Hobbit” or “The legend of King Arthur” are perfect too 📖
Listen to classical music, movie soundtracks and pretty instrumentals whenever you are doing any of the following activities (I find it helps romanticising a lot! 🎶🌷)
Have a picnic outside - Bring a wicker picnic basket, beautiful picnic blanket, fancy plates and cutlery and have a picnic fit for a countryside princess outside, either at the park or in a field. Wear a big sun hat to keep shaded from the sun and be sure to bring the essentials (Princess picnic food can include miniature sandwiches, scones, cookies, cakes & cupcakes, fruits like strawberries, cherries and apples, any snacks you can think of, lemonade and sweet iced tea) 🌷
Host a Tea Party (either indoors or outside) Set a table with all your finest dinnerware pieces, wear a floaty dress and white gloves, and use your most precious Teapot to pour fruity and sweet flavoured teas into any delicate teacups you can find. You can even make this Bridgerton inspired and have a high-tea esque party. With cookies and strawberry shortcake, cupcakes and miniature sandwiches. Make sure to set the table with a pretty tablecloth, fresh flowers and napkins/fine cutlery for yourself or your guests. Play some classical music and enjoy 🫖
Go berry/fruit picking. This time of year is perfect for Strawberry, Cherry’s & fruit picking in general. Wear a big straw hat, a long dress and don’t forget to bring your basket with you to collect the fruit in 🍓
Visit a flower field 🌸 💐 this time of year, flowers are in full bloom. Wear the most beautiful dress and a flower crown, so you are ready to twirl in the flower fields to your hearts content 🌷
Bake new Spring recipes. There are SO many Spring/Easter baking ideas on Pinterest. Have a look at any and compile a list of Bakes you want to try this Spring season 🍰
Cook new Spring recipes, you can even incorporate any new foods you have tried into the recipes and be sure to write them down in your recipe book 🥧
Make flower crowns! You can use fresh flowers or fake flowers, some wire or plain headbands. Get creative with them, use flowers, gems, lace, ribbon (this is a lovely activity to do with friends outside) 🌸
Press flowers (Such a Spring fairy activity!) any wild flowers you find (preferably dying or damaged) take them home and press them in a heavy book
Go on Forest Fairy walks. Explore your local forests, parks, meadows in the most vibrant green and pink dresses, wear flower crowns and just be one with nature, listen to fairytale music and take in the wildlife and nature around you 🧚‍♀️
Decorate your bedroom/space for Spring. This can be as simple as changing the bedding or by going all out and re-decorating your room completely. Fresh flowers, fake plants, cottage-core illustrations of animals look lovely too 🌷
Celebrate Easter like a Spring princess (really get into it this year) enjoy a beautiful Spring breakfast, paint eggs, eat chocolate, do some Easter bakes in the kitchen, make Easter Sunday a special day for you 🐣
Journal/Sketch/Paint - Painting outside is one of my favourite things to do, and you could even set up your easel/painting supplies in a garden or local field and paint the scenery 💐 Journalling all about your pretty Spring days can be uplifting and I find that sketching illustrations of Flowers, woodland animals and just Nature in general makes me feel so at ease any time I do so 🦢
Visit historical places like castles, botanical gardens and garden centres. These places are always abloom in Spring. Most of these places offer café’s and afternoon tea’s too! 🌸
Visit a cute Café for afternoon tea 🫖 (Make sure to wear a pretty outfit!)
Go frolicking in meadows. Roll down hills and twirl in flower fields 🌼
Feed birds and take time out to Spend time with nature and wildlife 🐰

I hope this helped and gave you some ideas, made you feel happy or comforted whilst reading and most importantly, inspired you to live life to the fullest and most beautiful it can be this Springtime 💐📖🎀 All my love ~ Kellen

When I first met him... he was the most gallant of lovers. He knew so many things. He delighted in sharing his knowledge. He had a castle full of treasures, and he took such pleasure in showing them, giving them to me. He was so gentle, and his skin felt like white silk against my skin. And I gave what I could give to one such as he. When we made love, it was like a flame: I felt utterly engulfed, utterly loved. Treasured. I have been with many poets, many dreamers... but his love alone was ice and fire. His eyes were stars.

Zero [complex math verse]
cw for disordered eating eating disorder storylines can be very triggering so please mind this content warning as it applies heavily to the entire fic
---
Hob is almost to his data structures section—running a bit late, as per usual—when he gets a call from Death. He picks up as he’s rushing up the stairs to the Comp Sci building.
“Hey, Hob,” she says before Hob can even tell her that he only has like thirty seconds to talk, actually. She sounds fatigued. “Can you go pick up Dream from the Maths building?”
Hob pins the phone between his shoulder and ear as he tugs open the door. “‘Pick him up’? Is he okay?”
“He asked me to come get him, but I can’t leave this patient right now.” Hob can imagine her leaning against the wall, hand pressed to her forehead. Why didn’t Dream call him?, Hob wonders. He’s usually much more available than Death, at this hour. “I asked if he wanted an ambulance, and he said no, but if you can’t go get him then—”
“Wait, wait.” Hob stops in the middle of the hall, stomach swooping. Someone walking behind him swears as they have to swerve to avoid hitting him, but he ignores it. “An ambulance? I thought you said he was okay.”
But... she hadn’t said that exactly, had she?
“He will be,” Death says, which doesn’t fill Hob with much confidence. But he turns around and heads back for the door, heartbeat picking up with each step.
“I’m going now, I’m not far.” The undergrads are just going to have to cope with not having discussion section today. He doubts they’ll be too unhappy about it.
“Thanks,” says Death, with relief. “Text me when you find him? And you should bring some food, if you have it.”
Oh.
Fuck.
Hob had been afraid something like this would happen. But he can’t exactly force Dream to pick up better habits. Horses and water, and all that.
“Yeah, yeah, I will, thanks,” he says, and walks faster.
Hob is going to be upset with him.
The thought circles Dream’s mind as he sits crumpled on the bench outside the classroom he’d been working in, head on his knees, hands clasped behind his neck. Nothing feels real. Everything is spinning and swaying. He might pass out. He might throw up. He hates throwing up. Hob is going to be upset with him.
It’s exactly what he was trying to avoid by calling his sister instead. Death will be upset with him, too, but she’s chastised him before. Dream is used to it. The same words coming from Hob will be a different matter.
He should have known that she would be busy, and would call Hob. Even if she could come to get him she would likely call Hob after. He should have known. He sits with his head pressed to his knees and waits for the inevitable.
Either Hob was very close by, or more time slips past Dream’s notice than he realizes, but it feels like only a few minutes before he hears Hob’s footsteps coming quickly down the hall. He doesn’t know what it means that he can recognize Hob’s footsteps. Or that Hob had known which classroom to go to. The one Dream always prefers to work in.
“Dream?” Hob crouches in front of him, trying to meet his eyes, but Dream can’t lift his head from his knees. It’s the only thing keeping the world from tipping over on him. Hob lays a hand on his arm. “Hey, love. What’s going on?”
“‘m dizzy,” Dream murmurs, voice small. He hadn’t realized how much his shoulders were shaking until Hob touched him. He thinks that’s distress more than physical shakiness. But Hob’s presence soothes him more than he’d expected. Even if Hob chews him out, he doesn’t want Hob to leave. He wants Hob to hold him. He just wants Hob to hold him.
“Okay.” Hob’s voice is quiet and calm. He brushes Dream’s hair behind his ear, though it’s not long enough for that to do much. “Sit up for me for a sec? I’ll help you.”
Dream is helpless but to follow Hob’s voice. He starts to sit up. His vision is still spinning. Hob wraps an arm around his middle and bodily lifts him up until he’s leaning back against the wall, then sits beside him on the bench, their thighs touching.
He meets Hob’s gaze. Hob is close enough that he doesn’t appear to waver as much as everything in the background. He looks beautiful, he’s a savior, an angel.
Dream’s brain is not working very normally right now. Not that it ever is.
Hob looks more concerned than angry with him. But Dream doesn’t have much time to study his expression before he’s turning to dig in his bag and pull out his water bottle. He uncaps it and hands it to Dream.
“Drink that. At least half of it. Slow.”
He goes back to digging in his bag as Dream sips the water carefully. Hob is very steady, underneath the concern. No panic. Good in a crisis, Hob. That’s interesting.
Hob watches him drink the water, then hands him a package of cheese crackers he’d pulled out of his bag. Despite himself, Dream laughs, weakly, as he takes it. “Do you always have food with you?”
“You’re not the only one who forgets to eat lunch, I just accommodate for it.”
‘Forgetting’ is… not exactly it, Dream thinks as he picks open the package and takes a cracker, eating it slowly. He still feels more nauseous than hungry, but he knows Hob won’t let it be until he eats it.
No, he has witnessed Hob skip a meal when in the throes of some engaging problem, but he always makes up for it later. Or by carrying around snacks, apparently. Whereas with Dream… it is not exactly forgetting.
He eats the crackers one by one, mechanically. Barely tasting them. Fortunately, the food cuts the edge of nausea in his stomach instead of exacerbating it, and he no longer thinks he’s in imminent danger of throwing up. Or passing out. That would certainly upset Hob.
“There you go, love,” Hob soothes him. “That’s better, isn’t it?”
Hob could have gone into the medical field instead if he wanted to, Dream thinks, somewhat deliriously, swallowing his final cheese cracker. His bedside manner is very good.
Or perhaps this is just because it’s Dream.
The thought makes him want to cry, but he doesn’t. He just stays still as the world starts spinning a little less, and Hob takes the water bottle and empty snack package back and shoves them in his bag, then tugs on Dream’s arm.
“Alright, why don’t you lie down.”
“This is a public hallway,” Dream complains, albeit weakly.
Hob sighs in exasperation. “We’ve slept on classroom tables before. Besides, this is a university, everybody’s seen weirder shit in public than this. Lie down.”
Dream acquiesces, and Hob guides him to lie down on the bench, his head on Hob’s lap. It’s pleasant, like that, and the world spins less and less. Hob pets his hair, and Dream closes his eyes.
“Are you going to make me go to A&E?” he murmurs, after a few moments of quiet.
“Depends how you feel in twenty minutes or so.” He sighs, and there’s a shake to it. “But I think you’ll be okay, love. Just give it a moment.”
Dream will be okay, until Hob decides he’s recovered enough to chastise him for his behavior. For now, he just lies there quietly and enjoys the settling feeling of Hob’s hands in his hair.
Hob doesn’t ask him what he did to himself, or why. Perhaps he’s judged Dream too tired or incapacitated to talk about it right now. He just keeps steadying Dream, quietly, his hands ever-moving.
When several minutes have passed, Hob asks, “How are you feeling, darling? Do you want to go home?”
Darling. Hob calls him such sweet things when Dream is nothing but difficult to him. “I would like to go home. Please.”
Hob helps him sit up, bracing an arm around his shoulders. But the room, thankfully, has stopped spinning. He gets Dream to his feet, and Dream doesn’t sway. Hob picks up both his bag and Dream’s from the floor and slips them over his shoulder. He wraps an arm around Dream’s waist. And silently, relieved to be standing again, Dream follows Hob home.
~~
Dream’s flat is closer to campus, so Hob takes him there, gets him settled on the couch and makes tea and pushes a box of biscuits into Dream’s hands, and all this before even telling Dream off for his behavior. Dream is not a child, he knows perfectly well how much sustenance a body needs to sustain it, he knows that it is unwise to go without eating, so why doesn’t Hob tell him so? Chastise him for his foolishness?
Dream sits curled up on the couch. Turning the box of biscuits over and over in his hands, unopened. Finally, Hob sits beside him with his own tea.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asks.
Dream can’t manage to get himself to open the biscuits. He sets the box in his lap, but picks up his tea as a compromise that will hopefully ease Hob’s worries. It does not work, based on Hob’s expression as he watches him do it. Dream sips his tea anyway. Hob’s put a lot of honey into it. Correctly deducing that Dream hasn’t had enough sugar or anything else today.
Instead of responding, he tears up.
Hob puts both of their mugs back on the coffee table and pulls him into his arms.
Dream presses his face into Hob’s shoulder. Tucks his hands in against the warmth of Hob’s body, pressed between his back and the couch. Crawls halfway into his lap. Hob wraps his arms around him and holds him close. Dream feels like his soul is pattering around and only staying contained by the boundaries created by Hob’s body. He doesn’t know what that feeling is.
Hob strokes his hair, murmurs against the shell of his ear, shh darling, it’s okay. Dream is a pathetic cowering creature soothed by Hob’s touch. That feeling. It’s fear. He’s scared. Scared of himself. That he can lose such control while grasping so tightly for it.
“Thank you,” he finally manages, something he should have said earlier, but means more than he can say, “for coming.”
“You could have called me, you know.” It’s not accusatory, but a little hurt. “It’s okay if you’d rather have Death, just—”
“It is not that. I—” He pulls back to see Hob’s face. Hob wipes the tears from his cheeks. “Death has told me her feelings on the matter before. I was… apprehensive to hear yours.” Death, also, has seen Dream at lower points than this. She can hardly think less of him. The same is not true of Hob.
Hob looks sad to hear this. “My feelings are that I’m concerned. Did you eat anything today?”
“…No.”
“What about yesterday?”
Dream thinks. He must have, surely? “I think so.”
“I can make you stuff, you know,” Hob says. “Whatever you want. I don’t mind.”
This is the last thing Dream wants. For Hob to think this is somehow his fault.
“If you’re forgetting I can just come get you whenever I’m eating,” Hob continues. He’s only growing more distressed at Dream’s silence.
How can Dream tell Hob, who cares so much and wants to help, that he does this on purpose? That he doesn’t forget that he’s hungry, but rather ignores it? Or worse, relishes in it? That he has done so for a long time. That it makes him feel sharper. In control of himself.
That once broken, habits are, it turns out, very hard to pick up again. Even when that habit is eating.
“It is not so simple, I’m afraid,” he says, ducking his head.
“No, I guess it wouldn’t be.” Hob bites his lip, looking away. “Why, then? I want to help you, but I don’t…”
“It makes me feel better,” Dream says. “Until it doesn’t.”
Like today. He pushed too far. But it’s only when he does go too far that the reality of what he’s doing comes back to him. It’s easy to forget, when he is used to it.
Ironically, he knows from experience that it will be easier to eat better in the next few days, now that he’s shocked himself back to reality. It will be easier, until he slips again. He doesn’t know how not to slip.
When he finally looks back up, Hob is already looking at him again. He looks sad. Dream doesn’t want him to be sad.
Hob takes Dream’s jaw in his hand, strokes his thumb over Dream’s lower lip. “You scared me, seeing you like that.”
Dream should probably apologize for his behavior. Instead, all he can do is lean in again to press his forehead against Hob’s. He knows Hob wants to fix it, to offer solutions, but all Dream really wants is his touch. Hob’s touch fixes more for him than anything else.
“I’m gonna stay over,” Hob says, cradling the back of his head. “And we’re going to have dinner.”
It is, in fact, almost dinnertime, Dream realizes. No wonder he felt overcome, after having nothing until now. Hob will insist on him having something, he knows. It still feels… strange. To be having something.
He tucks his face into Hob’s neck. “Very well.”
“Will you eat some of it?” Hob asks, petting his hair again, tugging the short strands between his fingers. Dream thinks it must be soothing to him to do so.
“Yes,” he says. “However. I don’t want you to think that this is your responsibility to fix.” Or that you can. Hob is very very good at taking things apart and fixing problems, but if he digs his hands into this one he is going to get his fingers jammed in the unsteady gears of Dream’s brain. He is only going to get hurt in trying.
“Maybe not,” says Hob, and, like he heard what Dream didn’t say, continues, “but I can feed you one meal so let’s start with that?”
Does Hob understand how much comfort he brings? Can he possibly?
“I love you,” Dream murmurs, almost unintelligible for how close he’s pressed himself to Hob’s body.
Hob kisses his head. “I love you, too, my darling.”
He bundles Dream closer so their limbs are all tangled together. Dream loves that, how he can feel each pressure point where they touch. “Will you tell me more about it? When you feel up to it. The more I get how you feel, the more I can help you.”
As a child, Dream’s favorite number was zero. Some mathematicians would insist zero was not actually a number, but rather the absence of one. That was exactly what Dream liked about it. The nothing defined by the everything around it. Zero was foundational, and yet it was not even properly there at all.
Sometimes Dream felt like zero. The less he ate the more he felt it. It was easier to be nothing than to let the everything in.
“You are insistent upon trying to help me,” Dream says.
“Yup.”
“Because,” Dream realizes, with a hard swallow, “you love me.”
“Exactly. You get it.”
Dream twists their fingers together and squeezes. If Dream is zero, Hob is like infinity, so boundless that he can’t help but let it engulf him.
Perhaps one day Dream will be able to explain it all to him in better words than that.

I can’t get over the idea of Dream becoming human (temporarily or permanently, it doesn’t matter) and getting hiccups for the first time. Would he even know what was happening? Do people dream about hiccups? If they do, do any of the dreams really capture the experience? Hiccuping is one of the strangest things a human body does regularly and I just. I want to see him dealing with that.

Pretty Cute
Morpheus (Dream of the Endless) x male!reader
So I noticed there was a CRIMINAL lack of male!reader fics for Morpheus, and that’s just a travesty if you ask me. So as the saying goes, when you want something done, you do it yourself. To all my lovely mlm brothers/siblings in the Sandman fandom, this is for you! Love you, dearies. *blows kisses* Now enjoy!
(If it’s unclear, you work at a library at the circulation desk)
Since you’re dating the King of Dreams, your relationship with him is very private. And you like it that way... but you’d like it more if your fellow library employees weren’t so obsessed with learning more about him.
Tumblr media
There were many things you loved about Morpheus. He was a sweet, loving man behind the cold front. He cared so deeply, despite initially being guarded, not wanting his heart crushed by the person he felt so strongly for. You felt honored, almost, that you got to see this caring side of him. Yes, you loved Morpheus.
The only thing you didn’t love about being with Morpheus…
“Soooo, any plans with your boyfriend tonight?”
… was that your co-workers had become obsessed with him.
Don’t misunderstand, you loved your library job. After a string of jobs with terrible work environments and even worse co-workers and bosses, the library was heaven. Good hours, good pay, and you had become friends with all the other people that worked there. You’d subjected Morpheus to countless regalements of your job, whether it be about the kids you met, your co-workers, or the antics of patrons, and he always listened with a sweet smile.
Your co-workers meant well, you knew that (or at least hoped). You also hadn’t dated anyone in a while before meeting Morpheus, which meant they were overjoyed for you. But that also meant they were curious about the man who, as Tracey the romantic put it, had stolen your heart and carried it with him.
“Don’t you have to go do book drop?” You asked Katie rather than answer the question.
“Caroline’s doing book drop. Now answer the question!”
You sighed. “Yes, we do have plans. He’s going to take me back to… to his place.” You weren’t entirely sure how to say he was going to take you to the Dreaming.
“Oooh, Y/N’s gettin’ some action,” Bek crowed from where they were processing books.
You could feel your face turning red. “Shut up, Bek,”
Bek laughed. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I’m sure it’ll be the kind of disgustingly romantic date you deserve.”
“Is Y/N going out with his boyfriend tonight?” Caroline popped up from coming back from shelving books. “Does this mean we’ll get to meet him finally?”
“No, I’m supposed to meet him when I get home,” you replied. In all honesty, you were glad Morpheus never showed up to your job. You could handle your nosy co-workers, but they would definitely ask him millions of questions and you weren’t sure if he would be ready for that.
“Are you going to have a movie night or something?” Caroline asked interestedly.
“That is classified information,”
“Y/N, when are we going to meet him?” Liv asked as they perched on a surface with their water bottle. “Does he have social anxiety? ‘Cause that’s totally valid.”
“Well… sort of…”
“Ohhh, does he just hate people?” Your hesitant silence seemed to answer their question. “Hey, I totally get that. I hate talking to people I don’t know.”
“But we’re Y/N’s friends,” Bek said as they cleared their workspace. “He’s going to meet us eventually, right?”
“Not if Y/N keeps being so secretive about him,” Katie teased. “We don’t even know his name or what he does.”
“I bet he’s secretly a psycho,” Liv stated as they hopped off the desktop. “Like, he killed a bird once and it released so many endorphins that he’s always wondered how to make it happen again.”
“How cheerful, Liv,” you said dryly. “And no, he’s never killed a bird. He loves birds, actually.” You wondered what would happen if Matthew heard Liv say that.
“Oh, sweet,”
“So does he work with birds?”
You sighed exasperatedly. “No, Katie. He just likes them.” Before she could say anything else, you stopped her. “Don’t you have MelCat holds to trap?”
“Oh yeah, I actually do. I forgot about them.”
You watched in relief as she went off to take care of the MelCat holds, and went back to checking your email. The Circ Two desk was usually slow around this time of day.
“So… is he a writer?”
“Katie!” You threw your hands up in frustration and turned to look at where she sat at her desk.
“I’m just asking!” Katie defended herself. “From how you describe him, he sounds like a writer!”
“No, he’s not a writer,” you said firmly. “Just like how he’s not secretly a psycho.”
“Hey man, he could be,” Liv argued from where they had replaced Bek processing books. “Or maybe he’s a writer AND a secret psycho like Ric Madoc. You guys hear what happened to him?”
You only knew his name from how many holds had been placed on his books. They were pretty popular. “No, what?”
“Guy had a meltdown at a book reading and wrote on the walls with his own blood, then told someone he had a woman locked up in his house.”
You couldn’t help balking at that. “Jesus Christ, seriously?
“Okay, to be fair, they didn’t find anyone when they searched the house, but still. Crazy. You sure your boyfriend’s never written with his own blood?”
“I’m sure we all want to know more about Y/N’s partner,” Sara suddenly appeared, much to your relief, “but he’ll tell us when he’s ready to.”
“Thank you, Sara,” you said gratefully, nodding and gesturing to her. “That’s exactly what I’ll do.”
“… But it would be nice to know his name,”
You turned to give her a look of utter betrayal. “Et tu, Sara?”
Sara have you a sheepish smile. “Sorry, Y/N. You don’t have to tell us his name if you really don’t want to. It’s your life, not ours.”
It wasn’t just that. You weren’t sure if you even could explain Morpheus to them. How could you say to your fellow human co-workers that you were dating the personification of all their dreams?
“Listen,” you said, trying to be as gentle yet as firm as possible, “I know you guys mean well, and I know you want to look out for a friend, but Sara’s right. I like my privacy, and my partner likes his privacy too. I’ll tell you more about him when he and I are ready to. But I’m happy; I swear, I’m probably the happiest I’ve ever been with him. He’s… incredible. Just amazing.” You didn’t realize that a smile was forming on your face as you thought of Morpheus. “Okay?”
Your co-workers were quiet for a moment, then Katie sighed. “Okay.” She smiled at you. “I’m glad you’re happy, at least.”
“Yeah, you deserve it, man,” Liv agreed, nodding.
“Absolutely,” Caroline echoed.
Your smile widened at their response. You really did love this motley bunch. “Thank you, guys,”
“You’re always welcome, Y/N,” Sara said with a kind smile. “Now Caroline, I think you’re supposed to do the book drop?”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
And with that, your work day continued. You went on your lunch break, shelved some books, manned the front circulation desk, and eventually returned to the back desk. The whole time, your mind was on thoughts of Morpheus and your date tonight. You missed him… even though you’d seen him a few days ago. But you couldn’t help missing him when he got so busy ruling over the Dreaming. Maybe over the weekend you could visit Lucienne and catch up with your favorite librarian (not that you told the librarians at your job that).
You couldn’t help wondering how he’d react if he knew of his popularity with your co-workers. He no doubt knew who they all were from their dreams. Would he be amused, or annoyed? You felt like he’d be annoyed.
It was the last hour of your shift when it happened. Liv was up at the front circulation desk, while you were once more at the back desk, going over your assigned reports and grumbling about how that damn library was dragging their feet putting the stupid book in transit.
“Hi there!” You heard Liv chirp as they usually did when a patron came up to the desk. “Is there anything I can help you with?”
“I am looking for Y/N L/N.”
You froze. No… that wasn’t… why was he here?
Your heart began to quicken in pace as you got up from your chair. He’d never come to the library while you were working before.
To Liv’s credit, they didn’t realize who it was at first. “I’m sorry, who?”
“Y/N L/N. He works here.”
“Um… I’m sorry, but I don’t—”
“It’s okay, Liv,” you interrupted as you walked out to the front desk. “I know who he is.”
And sure enough, there he was, standing at the desk in a black pea coat, black clothes, and presumably his black combat boots. Morpheus. He looked up, and his face immediately softened when your eyes met.
Your heart raced even faster, and you smiled back. “This is a surprise,” you couldn’t help saying.
Morpheus gave a tiny shrug.
Liv was looking between the two of you in confusion… then realization dawned on their face. “Is he…?” They pointed at him.
You sighed and nodded. “Yes, Liv. It’s him.”
A grin of pure excitement crept onto their face as they turned back to Morpheus. “It is so great to finally meet you!” they exclaimed. “You’re pretty famous around here! We’ve been dying to know about Y/N’s boyfriend that hopefully treats him like the king he is.”
You had to fight back a laugh at the blank look Morpheus gave them. He blinked once. “I…” he awkwardly trailed off.
“Liv,” you came to his rescue and tapped them on the shoulder, “I think you’re overwhelming him.”
“Oh! Oh, sorry,” they apologized. “Actually, I think that guy over there is coming back with some donations, so… I’ll just. Go. Do that.” They awkwardly waved at Morpheus. “Nice to meet you.”
Morpheus dipped his head at them. Liv respectfully didn’t say anything else and went to go get the mentioned donations.
You stepped closer and gave Morpheus a loving smile, wishing you could kiss him right there in the library. “You’re early,”
A smile appeared on his handsome face. “I missed you,”
“I missed you too. But… why are you here?”
“Do you not want me here?”
“No! God no, I am so happy to see you. But you’ve never come to the library before. I thought you were going to meet me at my house.”
“I was.” Morpheus leaned in closer. “But I missed you too much, my love.”
Your heart fluttered in your chest. “You are amazing, you know that?”
Morpheus’s smile widened affectionately. Then he glanced over your shoulder. “Is it true what Olivia said?”
“What?” You turned around to see Liv’s silhouette in the tinted window that showed the back room. Katie and Corey’s shadows were there too, and Liv was waving their hands around in the animated way they did when they got excited. “Oh,” you sighed sheepishly. “Yeah, they… they’re really curious about you. They get really nosy sometimes, probably more so because I never tell them anything. I’m sorry Liv said that to you.”
“Why have you not told them anything?”
“Well, I know you like your privacy, and I didn’t want you to get overwhelmed by them.” You couldn’t help laughing softly. “They’ve got a million questions about you.”
“Perhaps one day…” Morpheus mused.
You blinked in surprise. “Really?” You couldn’t help the delighted smile. “Great, because I have wanted to brag about my amazing boyfriend for ages now.”
“Is that why you are with me?” Morpheus said in a teasing voice. “For the bragging rights?”
“Well, not the only reason,” you chuckled. You gave into temptation and leaned across the counter to kiss him on the cheek. “I am also madly in love with you.”
The widest smile you’d ever seen so far graced Morpheus’s face. “As I am with you, my love,”
You blushed happily… then remembered where you were. “W-Well, listen, it’s,” you looked over your shoulder to check the clock behind you, “4:40 right now, so I get off in twenty minutes. Do you want to sit and wait until then? Or you can go back to my apartment and wait there.”
“I will wait here,” Morpheus decided. He gave you a soft smile that made you melt. “For you, I would wait for hours.”
“G-Great,” you managed through your wide grin. “Th-The, uh, the mystery section is over there.” You pointed in the direction of the mysteries. “Th-The fiction is before it.”
“Thank you.” He gave you one last beautiful smile. “Perhaps I will ask for a library card.”
You managed a breathy laugh as he turned around and headed for the mystery section.
When you returned to the back desk, you were met with Liv, Katie, and Corey, who all had eager smiles on their faces. “Soooo?” Katie asked.
Your face turned red. “Shut up, Katie,”
“Aww, he’s so red!” Corey teased. “I understand why; he’s cute.”
“Can all of you please stop?”
“So you admit that he’s cute,” Liv said smugly.
“You know what…”
You trailed off, then turned to look out the tinted window in the direction Morpheus had gone. You smiled, and turned back to your endearingly nosy friends. “Yeah. He is pretty cute.”

Ok so y'all I just had an idea for a Lawlight story but it's a Patalliro inspired AU
L Lawliet as Bancoran (a.k.a The Pretty Boy Killer)
Yagami Light as Maraich
idk who would be Patalliro to be honest 💀 (feel free to give suggestions lol)
The au would loosely follow Patalliro's storyline in the original anime for example Light is sent to assassinate L but inadvertently ends falling for him instead.
Btw for those who don't know in the og anime Bancoran is a skilled assassin/detective who has the ability to seduce bishonen (pretty boys basically) using just his eyes. I think that would work perfect with L since his eyes are also pretty unique and recognizable. Basically I can see him using his eyes to lure in his "prey" lol.
Maraich in Patalliro is an 18 year old assassin who works for an organization called the Diamond Syndicate. He is sent to kill Bancoran along with Patalliro (the main protagonist of the anime that it is named after) but instead ends up allying with Bancoran and Patalliro. Maraich is a pretty boy and uses his feminine appearance to trick and deceive his targets/victims. Light would be perfect for this since Light is very manipulative and is known for using his charms in order to get what he wants.
Also I'm just imagining Light wearing feminine get-up holy fuck that would be soo awesome to see. We don't see enough of femme Light in this fandom smh.
And I'm also imagining this iconic scene (if you know you know 😉) from the anime but instead it's L and Light 👀
Like...

sorry that you've been struggling to write, i know how much that sucks, but don't beat yourself up too much about it <3 will be keeping my fingers crossed that inspiration strikes you soon and take care of yourself in the meantime 💜
Thank you <3
It really means a lot to me. It's hard to sit with it all without automatically defecting to beating myself up about not being able to write / not writing, but I really am trying. Your words mean a lot to me and somehow they help, even though I can't quite put into words how.
I don't know, but just knowing that someone saw my tags to that post about writing (I'm assuming that's where you came from) and paused long enough to drop me this message, it warms my heart and soothes my soul, so, truly, thank you 🌻💛

A Trip to the Comic Book Store
Writer’s Month Day 15
word: comfort | setting: soulmate AU
Yeah, I know I’ve been slacking off on Writer’s Month—sorry! I’ve got a lot to do, and my motivation hasn’t been the highest lately. But please accept this story I wrote about Dream spending time with his great-nephew, and enjoy!
(And yes, this was partially inspired by how Tom Sturridge was doing a Batman impression for Morpheus at first and Neil Gaiman growled at him to stop lol)
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When Jed summoned Dream, he expected it was because the boy had been having nightmares again. He’d been making progress with the therapist Rose had found for him, but healing took time and wasn’t linear.
But no, it wasn’t because Jed was having nightmares.
“Look! They have Superman!”
It was because Jed wanted to drag him to a comic book store.
Dream stood awkwardly as Jed delightedly hurried towards the mentioned comics. He’d never set foot in a store like this. Modern day comics had been introduced while he was still in the Burgess’s basement, but Death had informed him that many people on Earth loved them. Including Jed, it seemed.
“Come on, Uncle Dream!” Jed called over his shoulder.
He silently followed Jed’s path, trying to keep an eye on where he was going. It was difficult with the amount of people in here; his sister had understated how many people liked comic books.
“Look, they’ve got an Iron Man cutout!” Jed pointed excitedly to a standee in the corner of a man wearing a full suit made of red and gold metal. “And a Red Hood costume!” Now it was a stand with a costume consisting of a dark brown coat and a blood red face mask. “This place is awesome!”
“It is… not what I was expecting,” Dream tried to say in a complimentary way.
“Have you ever been to a comic book store?” Jed asked curiously.
“No, I have not.”
“So you’ve never read a comic book?”
“I do not believe I have,”
Jed’s eyes widened and his mouth dropped open. “Then we have to get you one too!”
“I do not need—”
“Come on! I know one that’s perfect for you!”
Jed grabbed his hand and all but dragged him away from the—what was it? He glanced at the colorful covers—Superman comic books, towards another section.
“I thought you wanted comics for yourself,” he remarked to Jed.
“Well yeah, I do. But we can get some for you too! You can’t live your whole life without reading comic books!”
A tiny smile tugged at the corner of Dream’s mouth. “In that case, lead the way,”
An excited smile exploded across Jed’s face and he continued tugging Dream towards another section. This one featured covers of a man wearing a grey costume with a bat emblem on the chest, a black cape, and a black cowl over his eyes with ears. Certainly a darker feel than Superman.
Jed picked one up and showed it to him. “Here we go. This is Batman!”
Batman… it sounded interesting enough. “And what are his abilities?”
“That’s what makes him cool—he doesn’t have superpowers! He has a utility belt with all kinds of stuff and is really smart, like Sherlock Holmes! Ra’s al Ghul calls him “detective” because he’s so smart.”
“Really?” Dream mused half-interestedly as Jed handed him the comic.
“Yeah! I think you’d like him. He’s dark and mysterious like you!”
Dream gave the twelve-year-old a rather amused raised eyebrow. “I am dark and mysterious?”
“Well yeah. You brood a lot—that’s the word Rose uses when she talks about you. You brood, you always wear dark clothes like that guy Robbie at school, and you fight bad guys!” Jed suddenly snickered. “You even talk in a deep voice like him.” He spoke in a deep, gravelly voice. “I am vengeance. I am the night. I am the Sandman!”
That got Dream to crack a smile. Okay, if Jed insisted on seeing parallels between him and a fictional vigilante who leapt around in a costume and fought clownish villains… “Perhaps I should read Batman, if we’re so alike.”
It was worth it to see Jed’s excited grin reignite. “Awesome! You keep that, and I’ll get some for me!”
They ended up leaving the store with two bags full of comic books—mostly for Jed, and the one Batman comic for Dream. Jed looked all too excited to pay for them himself with money he’d saved up doing little jobs around his, Rose, and Lyta’s apartment building.
“Don’t you want your…” the cashier gave Dream a confused, hesitant look, “dad? To pay for them?”
“Oh, he’s not my dad,” Jed said, at the same time as Dream saying, “I’m not his dad.”
“Thanks for coming with me, Uncle Dream,” Jed said happily as they headed down the sidewalk.
“Why call me to go with you?” Dream couldn’t help asking. “Surely Rose or Lyta would have accompanied you.”
“Rose is at her college class right now and Lyta’s working. And the babysitter didn’t want to leave while Daniel was taking a nap. So I called you!”
“I have duties to attend to, Jed,” Dream tried to say gently. He didn’t want Jed to get the wrong idea. “I cannot always go places with you.”
“I know, but…” Jed glanced around, then leaned closer. “Can you keep a secret?” Dream nodded. “I was kind of… nervous to go.”
“Why nervous?”
“Because… I haven’t gotten comics in forever. Dad never wanted to go and… and Uncle Barnaby never let me go anywhere besides school. And I’ve been trying to make friends like Neil keeps telling me to, but…”
Dream assumed Neil was the therapist Jed had been seeing. “It is difficult to return to normal after so much,” he finished in understanding.
Jed nodded. “Yeah. Neil said it might help to start doing things I used to like again,” he held up his bag, “like reading comic books. But… but I didn’t know if anyone would wanna go with me. So I thought you would go with me, because… you’ve been locked in a basement too.”
Dream’s heart clenched with sympathy. It was a shame the Corinthian had killed Barnaby before he could get to him. He’d seen too many children have nightmares about cruel men like him. “Jed,” he placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder, “I am honored you wanted me to go with you. But I am certain if you asked your sister or your new friends, they will go with you in the future. Trying to heal and move forward is daunting, but there are people in your life who care about you and will be with you. You need only reach out to them.” He’d certainly learned that himself. “And you will always be able to seek comfort in your dreams.”
Jed thought about his words. “I guess that makes sense.” He looked up at Dream. “Thanks for coming with me, Uncle Dream.”
Dream smiled at him. “You’re welcome,”
Jed suddenly threw his arms around him in a hug. After a moment of hesitation, Dream returned it, reveling in how easily humans like Jed gave such affection.
“We’d better get you home before your sister or Lyta returns,” he said when Jed pulled away (to his secret disappointment).
“Yeah, we probably should.” Jed laughed as they set off down the street again. “Lyta’ll probably think you kidnapped me.”
“Technically, you kidnapped me,”
“I can’t kidnap anyone,” Jed said innocently. “I’m only a child.”
“Of course,”
Later on, when Lucienne entered Dream’s throne room and found him engrossed in the Batman comic book, she raised a curious eyebrow but said nothing.

Eddie, My Love! eddie munson x reader // valentine's day special series Day 2 Prompt: Chocolates 🍫 ~ 2,000 words Eddie's grumpy until he sees a familiar face in the candy aisle.
Tumblr media
“This is a fake holiday,” mumbles Eddie as he pushes the cart past the pink and red aisle of Bradley’s Big Buy.
His uncle chuckles. “When you have someone to spend it with, you’ll feel differently.”
“Wayne,” Eddie deadpans, “this is just some bullshit that Hallmark made up so they could take more of our money.”
“I’m not sayin’ you need to go all commercial,” Wayne clarifies. “I just mean that when there’s someone special in your life, boy, you might be in a better mood during this month.”
Eddie’s mouth sets bitterly. He’d rather not get the ‘you’ll find someone someday’ talk right now — the last thing he needs is another reminder of how lonely he is.
Wayne senses his nephew’s reluctance to discuss the matter, and so bites his tongue. Instead, he points at a row of cans on the shelf beside them. “Do you need more tomato soup, or are you set for a while?”
~
Back at home, Eddie lays on the floor of his bedroom, staring at the ceiling. Yeah, okay, maybe Wayne had a point. Maybe he’d hate all this stupid cutesy shit less if he didn’t have to watch everyone around him enjoy it while he spent yet another Valentine’s Day alone in his uncle’s trailer, with no one to keep him company, save for a six-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
The worst part of it is — and Eddie would rather die than admit this — that deep down, he thinks he really could be…romantic.
Sure, he’s rough around the edges. He tends to be prickly, wary of others’ intentions, but it’s necessary in order for him to survive in Hawkins. The Munson name was already notorious, and his reputation preceded him; the incident with poor Chrissy Cunningham three years prior, despite his innocence, had sealed his fate as the town pariah.
But if someone could just give him a chance, a real chance, he thinks that he could make that person really happy.
He’d help around the house. Cleaning, laundry, anything you — whoever you are — needed a hand with. He’d learn to cook better so he could keep you eatin’ good. He’d plan fun dates. He’d play your favorite songs on guitar, maybe write you new ones, if he was feeling inspired…anytime you needed him, he’d be there. He’d be the most reliable, affectionate, loving —
“Ed?” There’s a light knock on his door.
“Come in,” he calls back.
Wayne pokes his head into the room. “I’ve got to head to the plant in a few,” he says. “While I’m gone, can you do me a favor?”
Eddie sits halfway up, propped on his elbows. “Yeah, what’s up?”
Wayne fidgets, looking apologetic. “I know we were just there, but d’you mind going back to the Big Buy to pick up some candy? It’s Mrs. Johnson’s first Valentine’s Day since her husband passed, and I meant to get her something sweet, but I forgot.”
Eddie hauls himself up off the floor. “No problem. Want anything specific?”
Wayne shakes his head. “Don’t need nothin’ fancy, just get whatever’s cheapest that still looks nice.”
“That’s the Munson way,” Eddie muses, smiling in spite of himself.
~
Eddie reluctantly makes a turn down the seasonal aisle he had so pointedly avoided earlier, feeling depressed. Cherubs and teddy bears seem to mock him from where they sit, and he heaves a dramatic sigh.
His eyes roam the line of cards, plush toys, endless boxes of chocolates and candies, when they finally land on you, also perusing the rows of heart-shaped packages.
Recognition flickers instantly. Eddie suddenly finds that his heart is beating very quickly in his chest.
You.
You had still been a year behind him when he finally graduated, and though he didn’t really know you-know you, he was friends with people who did. You weren’t bullied like he and the guys were, but you weren’t exactly popular, either — and so more often than not, you ran in similar circles. Gareth and Harry used to swear up and down that you were the nicest girl in Hawkins.
Because of them, he had spent brief moments with you from time to time. He thought you had been very pretty, in your own unique way, but you were also rather shy. Your exchanges were always polite and charming, even if they never broke deeper than surface-level; overall, he’d found you incredibly endearing.
He never kept in touch, but as the years went by, he had often wondered about you.
Back then, it was hard to see past his own preoccupations: he was so focused on not failing his classes, Corroded Coffin, Hellfire, his dealing gig with Rick. But in retrospect, it always seemed to him like he had missed out on something special in not taking the time to properly befriend you.
Now, against all odds, you’re right here in front of him. And he had found you attractive back then, but now? Holy shit. You’re striking to look at.
As he studies your side profile, he thinks, it’s not that your appearance has really changed much, but rather the way you seem to be holding yourself.
You used to walk quickly through the hallways with your shoulders hunched and your head down, like you were trying to make yourself as small as possible. But now your posture is relaxed, your stance casual; your head is held high and a slight smile turns up the corners of your lips. And your clothes seem different too, like maybe you’d finally found your personal style, and were dressing in the way that you truly liked.
Is this what they call kismet? Fate, destiny, whatever, maybe Eddie’s fantasy-oriented brain was jumping to conclusions, but he thinks of the floor-misery he’d been wallowing in not even an hour ago — had his internal bitching been an unintentional prayer, which was now being answered?
He takes a few cautious steps forward, trying to act natural.
You glance at him when he comes nearer and offer him a quick smile before turning back to the sweet assortment before you.
Eddie stands next to you awkwardly, pretending to browse, hoping to see you make some gesture of familiarity, any confirmation that you might remember him as well as he remembers you.
But nothing. The seconds tick by.
You reach for a box of chocolates and Eddie’s overwhelmed with a sense of impending doom. He starts sweating. Any second now, you would pluck a shiny, ribbon-adorned package and twirl away from him, vanishing into thin air, and the moment would be gone. His opportunity would be over, and he’d never, ever see you again.
“I’m so sorry,” he blurts out. His face turns crimson, but he blunders on anyway. “I don’t wanna bother you, but did you graduate from Hawkins High in ‘87?”
You turn to him, eyebrows raised in surprise, one arm still outstretched. A breathy laugh escapes you. “Yeah, I did.” You give him the tiniest wave. “Hi, Eddie.”
He could almost cry in relief. You do remember him.
“Hi.” He returns your wave, dopey grin unfurling on his face.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you just now. I didn’t think you would remember me,” you explain apologetically.
Forget you? Absurd. “Of course I remember you. How’ve you been?”
Your voice is bright, cheerful. “I’ve been good! Busy with school.”
College, of course. You had definitely been an honor roll kid. “If you’re in school, then you don’t still live in town, do you?”
“Nah, my university’s too far. I got a place near campus, but I come home every now and then.” You smile, and motion towards yourself. “Obviously.”
“Oh. Nice.” Eddie twiddles his thumbs nervously. “Are your classes going good?”
“For the most part. They’re stressful sometimes, but that’s to be expected, I guess.”
“Yeah, but you’re super smart. I’m sure you’re killin’ it up there.”
“I’m trying my best,” you reply with a modest shrug. “What about you? What have you been up to lately?” You look at him with genuine interest, like you’re truly eager to hear about how he’s doing.
Oh, what to say. He opts for simplicity. “Bartending. At the moment I’m between The Hideout and The Attic. Although, I’m thinkin’ about trying to get a job at the garage instead.”
“You should!” Your voice is sincere, full of warmth. “I bet you’d be great there — I know you did a lot of work on your van.”
A bolt of pleasure runs through him. You didn’t just remember his name and face, but you recalled some minor details about him as well. He stands a little taller. “Thank you. We’ll see if it works out, I suppose.”
There’s a brief pause. Eddie moistens his chapped lips with his tongue. “Listen…”
Do it, you coward. If she says no, she says no, and you’ll get over it. Eventually.
“Um, if you’re ever home for the weekend, would you maybe wanna hang out? Grab a coffee or something?”
You look taken aback, but not displeased. Eddie counts that as a win.
“Sure. That would be really fun.”
He flashes you a grin. “Sick.” Then it occurs to him: you came home for Valentine’s Day weekend. Surely you’re in Hawkins because you have a date lined up with some former classmate who swooped in and asked you out after he had gone, and that’s who you were buying candy for and —
“I’m assuming you’re busy this weekend, though?” You point at the treats in front of you. “‘Cause I see you’re here to pick up the goods,” you tease him cheerfully.
“Oh, n-not really,” he stammers. “Wayne asked me to pick up something for our neighbor. I’m just an errand boy.” He swallows. “Do you have any big plans?”
“Nope,” you reply casually, lips popping the p-sound. You pull the candy you’d be aiming for before he interrupted, a pack of Hershey’s cream-filled chocolate hearts. You nod at him sagely. “I am my own Valentine this year.”
You don’t need to be. I’ll volunteer.
Eddie musters up all his courage, rocking slightly on his feet. “Actually, if you don’t have plans…like, if you’re not seeing anybody…would you wanna go out on a date with me tomorrow?” Nerves get the better of him and he starts pouring out word-vomit, totally oblivious to the way your expression is getting softer and softer the longer he rambles. “I get that it’s Valentine’s Day, I don’t know if you think that’s really…weird for a first date, or…if you even wanna go on a date with me at all, which if you don’t, that’s totally fine and I understand —”
“I don’t think that would be weird at all,” you cut in, giving him a smile that could melt an iceberg. “Eddie, I would love to go on a date with you.”
He feels like he’s having a fever dream. This can’t be real. Is this what manifesting is?
From now on, when he wants something, he’s gonna go cry on his bedroom floor about it.
Painfully aware of how clumsy his proposition came out, Eddie tries to put at least one suave move on you. “Well, if we really have a date tomorrow,” he says, swiping the Hershey’s from you, “then there’s no reason for you to be buyin’ your own chocolates. Allow me.”
Ten minutes later, both of you armed with candies and a phone number apiece, Eddie escorts you across the icy parking lot to your car. You grip his arm tightly crossing over a slippery patch of asphalt, and his stomach flutters in a way it hasn’t in years.
Okay, okay.
Maybe there is something to be said for this stupid, fake holiday.

hi just a reminder that if you want a fic updated maybe don’t constantly ask when the update is coming or be passive aggressive when the update doesn’t come when you want it to or even act entitled and inconvenienced about having to wait for the next update, regardless of how long it’s been since the last update!
