do you know of any ttrpgs where you play as a dragon rider? ideally that would be the main premise that the game is built around, but i'm open to anything that involves riding dragons.
THEME: Dragon Riders
Hello friend. For standalone games regarding Dragon Riders, I was only able to rustle up one. So to make up for it, I have some supplements for other games as suggestions, as well as a way of hacking a different genre to make it work for you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dragon Riding is Easy, Isn’t It? By Hans.
You are a Dragon Rider. With your companion dragon and your friends, you will face danger, see the world, and make new friends. Along the way you will take turns playing the Rival, driving the story forward and confronting the Dragon Riders with their foes.
This is a game with a lot of room for decisions about what exactly you’re riding dragons for. Collaboratively, your group will decide what makes Dragon Riders stand out, and what kinds of differences exist between the dragons of your world. The dice system uses d6s, with staggered levels of success. What’s interesting about your dice results is that each one must be assigned to an aspect of the task at hand (Goals, Risks, Traits and Complications), which means that your results well tell you more than whether or not you simply succeeded or failed. The meat of the story will surround the efforts of the group to foil the plot of the Rival, a character played by members of the party who sit in the GM’s chair - and everyone might get a chance to take a turn at this! The system itself feels pretty rules light, and the game its pay-what-you-want, so it’s worth checking out!
Dragon Riding, (for 13th Age) by Pelgrane Press.
The lethal combination of dragon and rider helped create the Dragon Empire. Now unleash the fury on your foes! Full rules for player character dragon riders appear alongside story advice for campaigns looking to add dragon-riding options.
13th Age is a fantasy game built similarly to games like D&D 3.5 and D&D 4e, but containing mechanics that address the narrative side of play. Rather than focusing on a consistently “realistically” coherent setting, 13th Age focuses on what is dramatically important instead. Character creation will look similar in that it has races and classes, but you also decide on a relationship between your character and an Icon of the setting - the Icon being a major player in the world. This relationship makes your character immediately relevant to whatever story is about to happen, putting them front-and-centre of the action.
The Dragon Riding Supplement adds rules to the base game and advice on how to incorporate dragon riding into a story. You don’t just get character options - you also get adventures and advice on how dragon riding might be incorporated into battle, how the healing system works with dragons, and more.
If you are familiar with games like D&D and Pathfinder, then 13th Age isn’t a very big step. However, if you ‘re new to tabletop roleplaying games, this is a pretty big learning curve, so be prepared for a significant amount of rules and lore.
Moth-Light by Justin Ford and RIDERS by Me!
If you’d like a game that can easily turn into a game about Dragon Riding, you can also check out my RIDERS supplement for Moth-Light. The creatures of Moth-Light are supposed to be giant insect-like creatures called Moths, but I wrote RIDERS while being deeply inspired by the Chronicles of Pern - which is a science-fiction setting that has dragon riders!
Metal Sword, by Mousewife Games.
Metal Sword is an "acoustic cover" of Austin Ramsay's Beam Saber.  It's a fully playable Forged in the Dark game, but with simpler rules, easy to read character sheets, and less overall math than is often seen in games of this genre.
The central mechanic for building both your pilot character and their vehicle are "Quirks", which you devise similar to how you would design your vehicle's Quirks in Beam Saber or a character's aspects in FATE.
Alright so you’re probably asking - why is there a mech game in this list of recommendations about dragon riders? I think there’s a lot of similarities between the kinds of stories told in mech games and the stories about dragon riders. You are a tiny, fragile human, responsible for a large, powerful creature or machine. Success in any mission requires a great level of knowledge and skill.
I chose Metal Sword because it’s a very stripped-down version of Beam Saber that is pretty easy to hack. The biggest change you’d have to make is the terminology. Your Vehicle becomes your Mount. Your Vehicle Actions become something like Heal, Maneuver, Sense and Blast. Because you are writing in the Quirks according to what makes you and your mount unique, you can incorporate details about your dragon’s powers and personality into character creation.
Not all Mech games will easily convert to Dragon Rider games. But I think there’s definitely potential!

How do you expel an entire class? Did Aizawa simply tell you’re all expelled, walks away and wait for another teacher to make damage control?
That movement must make him:
1 Disliked by other fellow teachers (minus his friends i guess).
2 A PR nightmare for Nedzu and UA. Since there’s at least two recommended students.
3. Widely hated or feared for an entire promotion.
4. What about 1-B. Did they just assume the worst of them is better than the best 1-A?
5. How does the rivalry with Vlad King surge? Since there’s no competition at all.
6. What’s the true lesson behind all that? That an entire class needs to improve? That the worst batch goes into 1-A? That Aizawa is the most strict teacher and therefore the best?
Looking at that from all angles and just doesn’t work. How does Aizawa keep his job for more than a year. Did someone immediately re-enrrol the kids, apologize and swears them to silence? And, did all that shit show happens more than once?
I’ll never get how the Dadzawa wave started since before the very retcon!
Yeah the expulsion stuff causes a huge amount of problems when you start thinking about it. There should have been at minimum a huge surge of controversy long ago that resulted in Aizawa getting fired especially with the sheer number of students he's apparently expelled.
The biggest problem comes down to something I've noted before that Hori very clearly decided to make a bunch of Kakashi references with Aizawa, but also as clearly missed major reasons of why Kakashi can pull the shit he did with Team Seven and his earlier teams (namely the 'fail them back to the Academy' thing).
For one thing, things like the bell test? Were something all the genin teachers did; we see Team Gai's version in a flashback at one point. It's referenced as a thing all versions of Team Seven have done, meaning Kakashi isn't even the one who originally came up with it or the point of the lesson it taught. For another, these kids are literally about to start an active career in a field that will easily kill them. If they aren't ready for it, they're going to die, full stop and do need the additional Academy time. The 1-A kids are just about to start training to get to their careers in heroics. The expulsion thing isn't something a single other teacher does. Another big issue with Aizawa?
He's not someone that the vast, vast majority would give two shits about being trained by.
At the end of the day, Aizawa is just some random underground hero. He's not a famous pro that the kids are super excited to be being taught by. He's basically just some guy who happens to have a hero license when it comes down to it. Izuku, noted hero fanboy, didn't recognize Aizawa even, just his Quirk. Like if he was someone that people badly wanted to be taught by or was widely admired as a hero, then you could get away with people being more willing to brush aside the expulsion shit, but he's not. Kakashi over in Naruto is one of the most elite ninja in the village. He's someone people would love to have teach them and pass on that level of skill. Eliteness is something that makes a lot of people much more willing to look away from your bullshit.
(As bad as All Might is at teaching, you're still going to want to be taught by him just to say you were)
Even if you want to make the argument of 'well UA would want to have Aizawa at UA because Erasure is helpful to have if a student's quirk gets out of control while training', that only works if he's one of the practical lesson teachers, not a homeroom teacher. We're given no sign he's even around while 1-A is having practical lessons, aka a very reasonable time for him to be around to prevent an accident from happening.
The expulsion thing I think was definitely one of the things Hori's referencing when he talks about how he wishes he had made different writing choices for some characters at the start of the series.

“Help my Cat” Scam Going Around
Have you received an ask in your inbox from an account that previously wasn’t following you, pleading for a signal boost on their vet-related post? I got one today, but something felt fishy. Or perhaps “phishy” is more accurate?
Here’s the ask:
Tumblr media
Now a couple odd things right off the bat. This is a blog I’ve never seen or interacted with, who wasn’t following me prior to sending the ask, so I immediately wondered how they pulled my name to ask for help. And while the world in general is a shitshow, so I can sort of see why a person would default to saying it “isn’t the best time to ask for help”, they say it with such confidence without knowing me at all.
Odder still, from their posts-- which at least do look extremely normal and human-like, down to the mishapocalypse profile picture-- we don’t share any interests aside from... well. Cats.
The other odd thing is them specifically requesting I reply privately, through DM or a private answer. I wouldn’t think much of it except they’re already asking me to publicly share something on my blog; if I’m going to answer the ask, why can’t I do so publicly?
I scroll through their blog some more. Their pinned post is, indeed, asking for help with their cat:
Tumblr media
Weirdly, though, an earlier version of this post uses a completely different name for the cat??
Tumblr media
This is bizarre to me and my red flags are pinging louder. Maybe it’s innocuous, though, I mean, it could just be a nickname or something? Why would you change it though?
Also, the post’s ratio is weird-- 101 reblogs to 44 likes. I suppose not too shocking if they’re doing this use-an-ask-to-get-a-boost tactic widely, but the ratio is pretty extreme. I check the notes. Every single reblog with tags has some variation on ‘boost’ or ‘signal boost’; there are no comments. No one has mentioned knowing this person, no one has vouched for the legitimacy of the post... but two mention that they were asked to boost the post.
*EDIT: Per a polite anon, I will clarify that signal boost/boost tags themselves aren't a red flag; what bothered me was that the post's ONLY interaction history came from boosts from seeming strangers. An active fandom blog, active enough to think posting a plea for financial help might get traction, SHOULD have at least one or two mutuals or friends who are willing to push the post and vouch for its legitimacy. Because the only engagement was from people who had clearly been approached via ask, like me, I got the heebie jeebies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, I’m doubtful enough that I’m not comfortable boosting this post myself. But let me check one more thing.
I search google for the exact phrasing of the help-requested post.
Ah.
Tumblr media
There’s well over a dozen blogs pulled up with this exact phrasing. Most of them use the name “Koppi” instead of either “Ashel” or “Biscuit”, but a few use “Ashel”. The oldest result, from 2016, uses “Ashel”; more commonly, these results are from 2022 or earlier this year and again, most say “Koppi”. Also interesting: basically none of these posts exist anymore. Google can identify the exact wording even beyond what I included in my search query using whatever demonic powers allow it to reference removed content, but they’ve clearly been deleted.
Additionally, which I clarify for those like me who attribute Google’s quirks to demonic powers rather than an actual understanding of how it works: if the dates didn’t make it clear, these aren’t the blogs in the notes of falesyorac’s post. I cross-referenced the names. It’s not pulling up those reblogs, so presumably the majority of these results at one time came from someone who drafted and posted the wording to their blog, not from reblogs.
Maybe it was once a real post, maybe it’s always been a scam, but evidently the content of the post has been stolen and recirculated at this point. Along the way I found this as well, an anon warning someone who must have reblogged a version of the scam post:
Tumblr media
So this is at least partly confirmed as a scam from another source.
Please be wary, do your due diligence before you put your money anywhere, and block & report falseyorac. I’m not sure the nature of the falseyorac blog originally; it may have been a real account that got hijacked, it may be a very convincing fake, it may be a real person’s blog who is trying to to leverage their innocuous appearance to pull quick money with a beggar scheme. Regardless, it is evident there is not a genuine Ashel/Biscuit needing help today and that whoever holds the falseyorac account right now is trying to pull a scam.
One more thing-- one of those reblog’s tags I showed earlier.
Tumblr media
I also have a tag for reblogs of cats. (It’s “cats”.) I suspect this is where this particular iteration of the scam is pulling its targets from-- after all, people who reblog cats enough to tag them must care about them, right?
Finally, I am tagging the people who reblogged falseyorac’s post with tags (there’s too many for me to do everyone who reblogged it at all) below the readmore-- if I messed up and tagged the wrong person and/or you want your name removed, please just contact me and ask. I want to make sure you can see this warning, but I’m happy to untag you if it bothers you for any reason.
@thislilfecker / @koreanbibliophilegirl / @kingminyard / @sss-shyshy / @shoutmonishere / @cleocatrablossy / @mothmansass / @aroanehring / @valkyrie-ellis / @jae-writes-fanfiction / @ninja-chibi / @iambecomeahamburger
(A few people’s names didn’t come up when I tried to tag them, so I wasn’t able to include them here, rip.)

MY THEORIES ON NIFTY
Tumblr media
Nifty is an interesting character in the show and we probably know the least about her out of the main cast, let's get things set out before I talk about the theory and yes it mainly centers around how she freezes up whenever she's on camera. She's also known to like “ bad boys “ and died at the age of 22 ( making her the youngest of the main cast ) in the 1950s.
A thing to note before I begin I have heard from people that they think the reason she didn't talk at all and just kinda freezes up is because when she was alive there were silent films because technology wasn't as developed yet, to that I cast doubt because if you see her death year ( the 1950’s ) movies had gone from silent films to talkies with the first talkie being Jazz Singer in 1927. The gradual transition of moving to talkies took place between 1926 to 1930 meaning by the time she died movies with sound and dialogue hit the mainstream. Another piece of context for my theory is that news broadcasting started a few years before her death, with the first regularly scheduled news broadcast on American television in March 1940.
The Theory:
Nifty died in the 1950’s and was a housewife who was overly obsessed with her husband, she was a young naive woman who did just about anything to please her husband. She cooked, she cleaned, she made sure the home never had a pest problem, an all-around good wife albeit a little on the unhinged side. Her husband was one of those “ bad-boy” types, and I am not talking just a thug or something, I'm talking about corrupted individual who works for the mafia [ weather it be them being the leader or just a member of it ] or a member of some influential and dangerous gang [ once again, either the leader of it or just a member ].
She grew suspicious though when he started hanging out with a lady she hadn't seen before, at first she tried not to let it bother her and assumed she must of been a friend of his or something. That was until one day when she was finished cleaning something she found him kissing this woman in their bed, this caused her to go into a blind rage which resulted in her killing her husband and the person he was cheating on her with, using one of the knives in the kitchen to do the deed. After being arrested she was put on trial, camera crews outside to hopefully take pictures of her exiting the courthouse to put in the newspaper.
After being convicted for her crimes she was taking out of the courthouse to be taken to jail but what no one knew was that a member of the Mafia/group her husband worked for was there in the crowds, as she was being bombarded by several flashes of cameras and such that person pulled out a gun and shot her several times before blending back into the now frantic crowd around the courthouse as people ran for their lives after the gunshots rang out. She had been shot three times, with the final shot to her chest being the one that killed her.
Like my Velvette theory I want to incorporate her design into how I believe she died. In both her pilot and final show design she is seen with three red splotches on her outfit. They resemble stab or bullet wounds and in the case of my theory I would like to see them more as bullet wounds, the biggest splotch on her outfit ( the one near her right shoulder and is on her chest ) being the one that signifies the bullet that killed her. Also though I feel the one eye could be a stylistic choice I interpret it as representing how she only had her eye on one person when she was alive, her husband. The reason why I feel she has an affinity for knives in particular is because that was the same thing she used to murder her cheating husband and the person he was having an affair with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And onto the biggest part of my theory, why i think her freezing up everytime she has a camera directly in her face hints to her death. You can chalk this little quirk of hers as a gag or a reference to the fact that the person who owns her soul hates modern technology and television [ Alastor ], but I personally think it's because she was being recorded and photographed when she died. Her death was being spread on the news, in the newspapers, and so that trauma of dying in that way on camera is why she always freezes up whenever knowingly being filmed [ I'm saying knowingly because she never froze up when she was being filmed by Vox's drones during the final fight because she has no knowledge of them even being there in the first place- ].

hi! I always get super excited about fandom OCs, so it's been such a treat to hear about Tzafael! I worked a little on a design for them (lmk if you're ok with me posting it) but a lot of questions came up:
this is gonna sound really vague, but what's their vibe? I'm getting "pretends to be a gentleman but will ABSOLUTELY fish for compliments and randomly fuck with people cause of the power play" but I could be totally off. does he ever snap at people/hurt them if they're not polite? are they super condescending like some of the other angels or is he more like adam and kind of,,, uhh openly a dick? or are they more of a crowley type (kind of gooey inside and mostly left heaven because it was too bureaucratic and constricting)? do they burst into hell buildings and just incite chaos? again I know this is super vague but like ,,, basically I need a dialogue snippet to know what they're like lol
what's their accent? do they have special vocal quirks/tics? special catchphrases or words they use a lot?
do they have any real friends in hell (not just contracts)? do they miss anyone from heaven?
did they like being an exorcist?
hobbies?
what are the implications of the magpie/eyeball motifs? do they have a transcendent sense of sight? are they overstimulated or even haunted by the fact that they have to see so much all the time? do they have any bird habits (preening is a must lol but anything else?)? do they have a nictitating membrane and freak people out by blinking sideways with all of their eyes?
is their magpie form like a really scary demon form or are they just like. a normal bird. (that's way funnier imo)
I'm sorry but,,, I'm such a sucker for angst. where's his soft spot? how does he react to having it poked? does he lash out like a panicked animal or break down and try to hide?
do they have sharp teeth? I've seen that in other art of them but since they're not technically fallen I'm thinking of just doing fangs
how would he react to seeing a child (is he good with children? does he terrify/terrorize them?)?
what does "very good grip strength" imply???
whew, sorry for that monster of an ask! you said you liked talking about them so I just vomited everything that came to mind while I was drawing him, but definitely don't answer anything you don't find interesting!
PLEASE DO NOT APOLOGIZE YOU HAVE MADE MY EVENING. Both by offering me a delightful plethora of questions to answer about Tzafael, and also by drawing them aaaaaaaah- I would absolutely love to see you post it!! <3
Long post incoming!!
Their vibe: They are still an angel, and subscribe to morals that involve seeing themselves as a relatively good person - kind of like Lucifer's sense of superiority over sinners! So they are polite and friendly in a way that sometimes makes it evident that they know they can afford to be because they're above most of the people around them. They won't overtly fish for compliments, but that's why stroking their ego is so effective: they won't ask for it, but it's their most major vice. It's like petting a purring tiger. They enjoy when their presence is shocking, so they will absolutely walk casually into places where they know anyone able to identify them will freak out, and they'll visibly find the results amusing, but they won't outright admit to doing it on purpose. When they actually get into conflict with people, they like to look like they're being the bigger man about it, but they're honestly biting at the bit for a reason to go casually nuclear on someone who looks like they deserve it.
Speech patterns: Tangible but not over-the-top valley girl accent. They think it's fucking hilarious. Mildly prone to nefarious laughter, though it's generally because they're genuinely amused.
Friendships: Their concept of friendship is a little bit detachedly celestial. They definitely have friends in every ring, but they're bad about accidentally not visiting for long periods of time and they're prone to feeling like nobody in hell can genuinely understand them. They make contracts with relative ease with people they are friendly with specifically because they like feeling like the person people come to for powerful assistance. They'd probably do best seeing if they can befriend any of the seven sins, to minimize the baseline imbalance of power level and lifespan, but it just feels awkward when they all know Lucifer. The unassuming, baseline comraderie is the main thing they miss about heaven.
On exorcism: They fucking loved the power trip of being an exorcist. Too much. That's why they stayed in hell in the first place. And then they thought about it too damn long and got to know the locals, and now it's just fucking awkward to go around killing indiscriminately. Knowing too much really took the fun out of it! They used to join in on the exorcisms when they came around again, but not anymore.
Hobbies: They keep fish! They like setting up self-maintaining freshwater aquariums of various sorts, and particularly enjoy feeling like they've captured a genuine slice of nature in a fish tank. They visited Vox's shark tanks once and thought they were boring as hell because the sharks are mechanical and he doesn't have any live flora. They also enjoy being a huge gossipy bitch, which is arguably like 90% of what they actually use their powers for.
Powerset: While Lucifer has the power of Creation, Tzafael has the power of Sight. They see a great many things, and they see those things As They Are. So, basically: localized omniscience. They can't read minds, but they can tell if some is lying to them, and they can also see everything within a certain vicinity (depending on how hard they're pushing it), including through walls. This isn't weird or overwhelming to them: it's how they were designed to exist! If anything, losing that would make them feel blind. They also have a very small amount of foresight, which is mostly useful for being hard to hit in a fight and also being obnoxious by unintentionally interrupting people's sentences. This does not help them come off as less condescending.
Leaving heaven: Seeing the truth of things as they are, and seeing everything around makes the facade of heaven frustrating and tedious to swallow. They prefer hell because it feels more honest!
Bird traits: Absolutely hell yes to the nictitating membranes on every single eyeball, which also doubles as protection against any eyeball stabbing! They preen, they adore shiny shit, they love to gab and gossip, and while they are mostly a magpie, any bird seraph is going to be a bird of prey in some way or another, so it is as difficult to break their grip as it would be that of a raptor of similar size. I think it's implied that all heavenly and some demonic beings have various stages of their true forms, so their humanoid birdform is a similar style to what we see from Sera in the first few seconds of meeting her, and their true form is closer to what we see of Stolas at the end of Truth Seekers in Helluva Boss, except with about a billion more looming eyeballs. As for their most humanoid form's teeth: I figured they'd stayed in hell long enough for their teeth to go sharp like Lucifer's, but I am also super down for fangs if you have a design you're playing with!
Children: Ehhh...kinda cute, when they're not Tzafael's responsibility. Frequently funny in small doses or from a distance. Delightfully honest or else delightfully poor liars. Often just not their bag, though, especially if they kids are spoiled or self-absorbed (sorry, what was that? "Hypocrite"? Must have misheard.)
ANGST: They are a social animal and they miss their flock! They keep mooning about potentially reconnecting with Lucifer because they fucking miss heaven, except heaven doesn't feel like it did when they were a kid, so it doesn't feel like home. Any small inconveniences, they feel free to whine about with deliberately humorous dramatics, but when they feel genuinely hurt, they withdraw, hide in their nest, and keep it to themselves as best as they can. It hurts the ego to admit that kind of weakness when they're supposed to be a fucking seraph, especially when they feel alone and without equals in their place in the world. But even though heaven turned out to be a damn lie, they miss family. On a more minor note, they're also a poor sport about being genuinely made fun of in bad faith.

Yes.
Depends on what's changed but Im open to that discussion
Tracking devices? Yes. Cameras? Not all the time and the child must be aware of them and be explained the reasons why.
Yes, more time to write books with moral bankrupt MC and criticisms about out society.
I'm open to adoption. Aditional bio kids? I'm having at max 2 bio kids but I don't exactly have a limit when it comes to adi«opted kids (must be below 7).
I'm a great cook. I know mostly western gastronomy but I'd absolutely love to learn more about oriental dishes. Im also a great baker.
I prefer to finish them but that's bc I need to know the ending to be able to rewrite a version I like in my fanfic.
While ties are attractive I prefer men with them. But button-up shirts without ties? That's the most attractive shit ever.

I get his cause. Why shouldn't he be allowed to have other people's quirks when he can use them so much better? Not to mention how attractive he is. I find him interesting and smart and I'd love to have debated with him about morality and the best ways to dispose of a body. Not to mention I think his relationships with other people are goals.
I wont send this as an anon bc Im not ashamed of my love for him. <3 Hope he considers me.
Like you, All for One’s eyes changed color after he started using his quirk. He’s optimistic that might mean you have a powerful ability, so you have immediately grabbed his interest.
However, you did miss the point on the cameras question—if the child knows there are cameras, then they are too easy to remove. All for One learned that the hard way with his brother.
It’s great that you’re open to adopting a large brood because All for One has kidnapped many children over the years. Kurogiri and Dr. Garaki are threatening to strike if he unloads more cute white-haired orphans on them. He tried to give one to Gigantomachia, but there was a tragedy where Machia did not look before he stepped.
Baking skills are a strong plus. All for One likes maximum sugar.
All for One will concede the need to finish stories in the service of writing fanfiction with better endings. By the way, he’s sending you a link to his Archive of Our Own page with 200+ Demon King wins fanfictions. Lengthy and flattering comments on his stories will greatly aid your courtship. He has also enclosed (1) picture of himself with a button-up shirt and no tie.
Your commitment to trash-talking All Might has put you ahead of the competition! Your AFO simping was even more appreciated. Most of all, you impressed All for One with your willingness to de-anon. For that boldness, he’s giving you a chance. He’ll pick you up for your first date on Monday. No need to tell him where you live, he already knows.
AFO simps, he’s still taking answers to the questionnaire. Hurry up before he has the exclusivity talk with an (un)lucky simp. Please be careful @bookwalmartav because he may attempt to steal your quirk regardless of how well the date goes. I take no responsibility for my creation if this ends with you getting vaulted.

HookCaster and #5
( ☆ { calling } them late at night to come over; good choice)
"Yeah, yeah," Max says, as Hook fists his hands in Max's hair and drags a hot line across Max's jaw with his tongue. He's such a god damn surprise, Hook: gets lonely when he drinks, horny when he's high, and tonight, with the combination of the two, apparently bold enough to use Max's number to slur a rather insistent demand.
"Give me your room number," he'd said, without greeting, without anything, really, in the bizarrely charming juxtaposition of someone who desperately wants something and also desperately doesn't want any of his actual friends to know. And Max, well...who is he to deny a guy going through a sexuality crisis?
But Hook kisses like he's resolutely determined to figure shit out, and fuuuck, it's actually great. Max has made way worse decisions than this, and says as much, muffled against Hook’s mouth.
"Jesus," Hook grumbles, but he doesn't fight it when Max slides his hands up the front of his sweatshirt, or when Max coaxes his lips apart to sweep his tongue in.
"I'll have you thanking him later," Max promises, as he grabs at Hook’s waist and tugs him in, presses their bodies flush. "Get you callin' out, begging, pleading—"
Hook growls. "Do you ever shut up?"
"Only if someone puts my mouth to better use," Max says. Hook stares at him for a moment, pronounced; the sort of moment where Max just knows he's arguing with himself inside that pretty head. He must come to the good conclusion, because while still holding Max's gaze, he fumbles for the zipper on his jeans.
Max laughs. "Yeah, there you go. Got an idea, huh?"
"You got a better one?" Oh, that's a challenge.
Max swipes his fingers through Hook’s belt loops, tugs the denim down past his thighs. "How 'bout I show you, and you stop me when you get scared?"
"'m not scared," Hook says, sharp. Defensive. Max quirks his mouth up as he sinks down to his knees, running his hands up the back of Hook’s legs.
"Okay," he agrees. Leans forward to mouth at the curve of Hook’s cock through his briefs and grins at the resulting hiss. "Then let's rock."

Okay I have to ask bc I'm curious 👀 For Scorpion Grass, do you write/plan parts of the story ahead of time based on the choices you give the readers whenever you post an update? Or do you just write it after the votes come in? What happens when the readers vote in a way you weren't expecting or don't choose an option you were excited to write? Feel free to give as much detail as you'd like! I'm always really curious how interactive story authors balance the quirks of their process and the story itself!
Hello Nopal :D Thank you for asking~
putting it under a cut because i got a little carried away, haha
I do have a plan on the overall arc to how things go, but scorpion grass is this big branching story and if I wrote all the choices before hand i'd never get an update out 😅
Which is to say that when it comes to choices I have an idea of what Path it sets the characters on depending on what wins, but the concrete details only come in after i know which is the winner. Or if one option pulls far enough ahead early on, I'll get started on it right away, depending on how much energy I have.
Not all of the choices expressly effect the immediate plot, some of them effect what kind of person Sylv is (honest or not, for example), which will effect things towards the end of the story, but maybe the two choices' chapters wouldn't have looked that different. It's the chapters that follow afterwards that get changed, if that makes any sense.
I got surprised a lot by readers at the beginning with how people voted, actually. Over time i've gotten a better idea of like, what my reader's preferences are for choices and such, though. It seems like the majority of readers don't want to put Sylv in any undue danger, and don't want to make Sylv be rude or tell lies very often. The first one is interesting to me, because I did promise there would be no dead/bad ends in this version of scorpion grass. though perhaps that was before most of the readers started so they don't know that... this just occurred to me actually as I was typing :o
but what happens when i'm sure i know how people will vote/what the winner will be and then they don't pick that result I very dramatically whine to my non-writeblr friends about it, then write the chapter anyway because the show must go on!
i also don't hold myself to my plan super seriously, because sometimes i have better ideas for things as I go. The grave chapters were something that popped into my head at work and i was like. well. i can't Not do that now, even though i'll need to rearrange some things... and sometimes I'll have Sylv made an important choice and then go. 'wait that would be more satisfying to leave up to reader choice actually' so i put up a poll instead.
that's all i can think of at the moment, thank you again for asking <3

Izuku Midoriya X Male Orca Reader - Ignored Inheritance
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2947
Being the son of two pro heroes was difficult. Especially being the son of "Gang Orca" or his real name Kugo Sakamata. Your mom Alexandria Sakamata or her hero name being "Wavest." You both had your parents' quirks. You had your Dad's quirk Orcinus, which makes you have the attributes and abilities of an Orca. Including, your strength being increased, better senses, and you can even produce hyper sonic waves like your Dad could. This resulted in you having the same weakness as your Dad does. You have to make sure your skin stays hydrated, but that's where your mother's quirk comes in. Water control; meaning that you could control movements of water however you wanted. You could make a cup of water that had a flat surface, and turn it into a cup of water that had mini waves, sloshing around in the cup. You could also control water vapor and temperatures, which you could use to moisturize your skin regularly so you would never need to bring a water bottle along with you which was what your Dad had to do.
You wanted to become a pro hero so you could impress your parents, and so you could make the world a better place. Your parents told you that you don't have to become a pro hero just to impress them as they loved you, pro hero or not. You worked very hard to get up to this point, you were leaving for U.A. and both of your parents were so proud of you. They both gave you hugs and gave you some words of advice before you left your house and headed straight for the school bus along with your backpack.
You were worried about going to this school for many reasons. The first reason being general anxiety; were you going to survive the school year? Were you going to make any friends? How were people going to react to your apparence? This led to problem number two, your appearance and reputation. You looked all most exactly like Gang Orca, you got the red eyes, big height, sharp teeth, and rubbery skin. The only difference was that the white pattern that was around your eyes were in a different shape compared to Gang Orca's. Many people mistook you for Gang Orca when you were out in public, and you couldn't blame them when you both look alike. Your reputation is kind of poor, you had like one good friend from your childhood, but that's about it. You don't have many friends due to you intimidating appearance. Your Dad had recognized this and gushed out tears one night when being comforted by his wife. You told your Dad that you would try and get through it on your own and not to worry for you. Your Dad declined and gave you a hug, saying that what kind of father would he be if he wasn't there for you. This resulted to a smile appearing on your face. Your Dad was really one of the most caring and kind hearted person you have ever known.
You stood in front of the U.A. building with confidence beaming off your person. This was it, your time to shine. Hopefully you could get along with your classmates, and make your way to becoming a pro hero like your mother and father. Someone then bumped into you, and you turned around to find out that it was a teenager boy, who looked to be 15 years old. You were 16 years old, but your estimate on his age was just a guess. He had green hair that was poofed up all over his head. He seemed to never stylize his hair, strange child.
The child looked up at you in bewilderment and you couldn't tell if he was afraid or amazed? No, he looked shocked.
"Oh my gosh, Gang Orca!!" The child exclaimed.
He got up on his feet bowed profusly to you along with a journal in his hand, "Can I have your autograph!?"
Your voice emitted a deep chuckle that was slightly close to your fathers, "Sorry kid, your talking about my Dad. I'm his son Y/N Sakamata."
The boy seemed a little shocked for a moment, but still seemed to panic. "Oh my, I'm so sorry! It must be awesome being the son of two pro heroes!"
You scratched the side of your head in embarrassment. You took your side-head scratching, after your father, which he tended to do a lot showing he was thinking, confused, or was merely just an addiction he had.
"Sort of. Listen, do you know where class 1-A could be?" You asked the green haired boy.
The child immediately looked over joyed, "Hey, I'm in class 1-A, I guess we are classmates!" The boy offered his hand, "I'm Izuku Midoriya! Nice to meet you Y/N!"
Using your clawed hands, you gently shook his hand in greeting. You were very strong and you even sometimes visited your Dad's gym that he often went to since he was good friends with the owner. You would lift weights there to get stronger, and even practice your subsonic waves in an open area or field so they could have stronger range and impact. This resulted in you having a muscular body and muscular arms. If it wasn't for your intimidating apparence it would make the girls swoon over you immediately.
"How about we walk to class together Midoriya?" You offered your now new friend.
"Izuku!"
You looked around to find a cute girl around Midoriya's age. She had brown hair along with the school outfit that both you and Izuku were wearing right now.
"Ochako!" Izuku waved happily.
You smiled as you both watched them both blush and talk to each other. You could tell they both started to develop crushes for each other. You chuckled, which attracted both Izuku's and Ochako's attention. Ochako immediately squealed at seeing you, which immediately made you frown.
Izuku took notice and introduced you to his new friend, "Ochako, this is Y/N, he's the son of Gang Orca! Isn't that cool?!"
You smiled as you knelled down and presented your hand for a hand shake. "It's wonderful to meet you Ochako, I look forward to knowing you and Izuku more," You said in a positive tone.
Ochako then smiled and shook your hand, "Nice to meet you too Y/N!"
Here you were starting your school year at U.A. and you were already making new friends. You were off to a great start.
~~~~
You, and Izuku stood outside of the class 1-A door awaiting to meet your new classmates. You at least knew that Ochako and Izuku's nemesis "Ka-chan" awaited beyond this door. You both bumped into Ka-chan outside of the U.A. building on accident, and you were pretty surprised at how much of a jerk this dude was. He threw a lot of insults at the both of you. One of his insults offended you, but you just ignored it. He wasn't worth your time so you just dragged you and Izuku away from that guy.
Izuku slowly opened the door and you both saw your classmates. Everyone was just mainly talking to each other in the room and didn't even pay attention to the green haired boy, and giant orca man that stood behind him.
You took this moment to look at everyone in the room. Everyone seemed to have unique quirks, which was interesting. Although, a couple people appeared to pop out to you in particular. There was a boy who had a bird head, he seemed pretty chill and sat upright in his seat talking to no one. He was one of the few people who noticed your presence along with a guy who had multiple arms and they looked like he had bat wings of some sort. He also wore a mask, which made you wonder why he did so.
"Uhm hi!" Izuku suddenly blurted out.
Everyone immediately stopped talking, but instead of looking at Midoriya everyone looked at you. Of course, they would look at you. You are probably the most interesting person to look at appearance wise. Some look complete bewildered by your apparence, some looked like they couldn't give a crap, and very few smiled like nothing happened. You swallowed something down your throat as you kept your head straight up to avoid all of the glances and sat down at a big desk in the back of the classroom. They probably handicapped you, which you thank the school for. As Izuku took his seat, which was in the middle of the classroom row. A man wearing a scarf and had black hair walked into the classroom looking relatively uncomfortable to be here in the room, which was pretty much what you were feeling right about now.
~~~~
You had to pass this knowledge test in order to get to the summer camp. You knew some of the knowledge, but it was tough to figure some of it out. What you needed was a study partner. You knew a few that were willing to team up with you, but 1/4th of the boys were going to Momo's place. Your only options were Shoji and Tokoyami, they were the only ones that like you were discriminated against for their looks and appearance. You were able to connect with them, but they both were hesitant to talk about their back story's any further. It seemed like all hope was lost until a certain boy came along...
"Hey, Y/N."
You turned around to notice the small boy, which appeared to be from your perspective since you were a giant to him.
"Hey Izuku, have you found a partner yet?" You asked.
Izuku looked down at a textbook that remained in his hands, "No, which was why I was wondering if you wanted to study together at my place?" He asked.
You were kind of surprised. This boy wanted to study with you? Despite your apparence? You would probably scare his mother and father to death.
You rubbed your dorsal fin in slight embarrassment, "Are you sure? I don't want to scare your mother to death? Besides, why would you want to hang out with a monster like me?"
Izuku looked a little serious all of a sudden, "Don't say that Y/N! Your one of the most kind hearted people I know, you're also smart with your work studies as well! You have to be a little more confident, and believe in yourself. So, please Y/N, I want to study together and get to know each other more." Izuku replied with a smile on his face.
His smile was contagious as your mouth turned from a frown into a smile. He was really something else wasn't he?
"Thank you Izuku, your words mean so much to me. So, sure we can study at your place. Together," You answered truthfully to young Midoriya as you knelled down and shook his hand.
Some people noticed this behavior, and it impacted how the class saw you.
~~~~
Once class was over, and the many students ran out of the building you saw Izuku standing by one of the school ground's columns.
"Y/N, over here!" Izuku shouted with a smile on his face.
A deep chuckle escaped your throat as you fast-walked over to Izuku, "Hi Izuku, are you ready to go to your place?" You asked your trust-worthy friend.
Izuku simply nodded, "Yep, you can just follow me."
As you walked toward Izuku's place you pulled out your phone and texted your parents.
Y/N: I'll be at a friend's place, I should be back before 7.
~~~~
Here you stood in front Izuku's apartment door. Izuku knocked on the door, and on the other side was Izuku's Mom.
"Hey Mom, me and my friend Y/N are-"
"Ahhhhhhhh!! A monster! Run away Izuku!" His mom shouted as she ran quickly grabbed a frying pan from the kitchen cabinet.
She was just about to hit you with it, but unfortunately wasn't able to due to Izuku trying to restrain her.
"Mom, no please. He's not a villain, he's a friend!" Izuku spoke out.
She looked at you for a moment. You noticed this and showed off a smile with your mouth closed of course to hide the sharp teeth and you waved at her to show your kindness.
"Izuku, your room now. Your friend will have to wait outside." Izuku's mom demanded.
~~~~
You waited outside in the hallway for about five minutes, while you heard a little shouting in Izuku's bedroom.  All you heard was "nice," "test," and "study." That was more than enough info as he was probably telling his Mom why you were even here in the first place.
You heard a door open and saw Izuku's Mom, "Hello Y/N, I'm sorry about the way I acted when he met. I just wasn't expecting any visitors today."
You itched your dorsal fin looking away a little embarrassed, "It's okay, it happens. I just want to know your son better, and study for the knowledge test that is coming up."
Izuku's Mom walked to the side bowing slightly, "Please come on in!"
You walked into Izuku's small apartment, and you and Izuku walked into Izuku's room to study. When you walked in you immediately noticed all of the All Might posters and souvenirs on display in his room.
You looked at him with a smile, "Your a huge All Might fan I see." You said with a smirk on your face.
Izuku blushed as he itched the back of his neck, "Y-Yeah he's so awesome isn't he? And now since he's our teacher I think it's even more awesome isn't it?"
A deep chuckle escaped from your throat, "Yes, I suppose so. Now let's get to work shall we?"
You heard a ring from your phone to see that your Mom had replied.
Alexandria Sakamata: Sounds good hun, just be sure to come back safe and sound. There are super villains always lurking around.
You rolled your eyes, as you reply to her text with a grunt. One downside to having pro heroes as your parents was that they always worry that you will be captured by a super villain, which like never happened.
Y/N: Yes Mom, I know. Don't worry so much, I can take care of myself.
Kugo Sakamata: We know son, we just worry for your well being. Who's place are you at?
You sighed, your parents always are so protective of you. Especially, the legendary Gang Orca.
Y/N: I'm at Izuku Midoriya's house. Relax Dad, love you guys bye;)
"Hey Y/N, is everything okay?" Izuku said with a worried expression.
You smiled as you replied to his question, "Yes, everything's fine. It's just that my parents wanted to know where I was. They always worry too much being pro heroes and all."You crossed your arms over your chest as you thought deeply for a moment. You wanted to become a hero because you always looked up to your parents. People thought you were probably going to be the next Gang Orca. Although, that wasn't what you wanted. You wanted to be your own person, your own hero, have your own reputation. So, why did Izuku want to become a hero?
"Izuku, if you don't mind me asking. Why did you want to become a hero?"
Izuku looked up at you with widened eyes. Then he looked down at the floor, thinking deeply.
"Well, I wanted to become a hero so I could become just like All Might. His determination, his positivity, and his will to save people. He always inspired me, I wanted to be just like All Might and get to be number 1! Now though, since I have been training in this school. I'm starting to realize how much I can do on my own. I think I'm starting to realize that I will never be able to live up to be like All Might. I still want to be the number 1 hero, but...I want to do it my way! Not All Mights."
This hit you deeply. Both of situations were very similar to each other. Izuku wanted to become a hero to be just like his idol, but he knows he won't ever be like him.
"Izuku...thank you."
Izuku had a huge smile on his face, "Of course Y/N, but what for?"
"The reason I wanted to become a hero was so I could be just like my mother and father, and be like them. Everyone sees me as being the next generation of being Gang Orca. But...that's not what I want. I want to become my own hero, have my own name, have my own legacy, I want to be who I want to be!" You spoke out your true intentions.
You smiled as you knelled down to be even at Izuku's height and you gently took his hand in yours. "Thank you Izuku, I thought I was the only one with this sort of dilemma. Although, now that you told me your situation. I feel like we have more in common than I thought. So, thank you. You made me have more determination to become my own hero."
Izuku looked surprised at this statement, but then a big smile appeared on his face along with determination. "Same here Y/N, I hope that we will both become great heroes in the future!"
Another chuckle escaped your mouth as you gently shook his hand, "And I do you. Now...let's work on studying for the test shall we?"
You both took out your textbooks from your backpacks, notes, and writing utensils. You both worked together fluently like you both were childhood friends or something.
You both didn't know, but behind Izuku's bedroom door. Izuku's mom smiled in happiness, knowing what her son's dreams for the future were.
We should have had a character like this in My Hero Academia already. So, I did it myself! There will be more of the Male Orca Reader, but the second part won't really be an Izuku X Reader. Hope you enjoyed it and have a fantastic day!
I decided I wanna address the subject of my Yuu’s birthday, so I’ll be doing that underneath the cut.
Like how Fortune can’t remember her birthday in TABF, the same can be said about Yuu.
While Yuu doesn’t lose all her memories like Fortune did, Yuu does forget her birthday because she goes so long without ever celebrating it.
While Tokumei did erase Yuu’s painful memories of what happened to her deceased parents and how she ended up in the underworld, he didn’t erase all of her memories so she would have still known the date of her birthday when she came under the “care” of him and Mumei.
However, since she was so young at the time, around 4 years old, Yuu eventually forgot her birthday since the twins never celebrated it, and she just never had a reason to remember it. It just became another day of the year.
While it’s a sad thought, Yuu never let herself dwell on it, so she was fine with not having a birthday. She wasn’t going to make a big deal over it when it was such a small matter in her eyes.
That all changes, however, when one day, while she’s visiting Scarabia’s dorm, Mr. I Love To Party aka Kalim asks Yuu when her birthday is because he wants to be ready to celebrate it when the day comes.
Because his question completely catches her off guard, Yuu finds herself answering honestly without thinking about it. Kalim has that effect on her since she finds it hard to lie to him.
Of course, Yuu doesn’t go into details about the situation regarding her birthday. She just says she doesn’t remember it.
Kalim naturally is horrified at the idea of one of his friends not knowing their own birthday. How are they supposed to celebrate a day she can’t remember?!
It doesn’t help matters that, when Kalim presses the matter, Yuu also admits that she doesn’t have any memories related to her birthday, so she really has no idea how to figure out what day it might be.
Thankfully, when Kalim asks her what led to her forgetting such an important day, Jamil saves the day by saying that Yuu’s memory loss must be the result of her traveling between worlds.
Jamil had always thought it was strange how there was no side effects to such a powerful magic being used on Yuu, so it makes sense that she suffered some kind of setback. Obviously, those memories she lost were the price she unwillingly had to pay to come to TW.
Of course, Jamil doesn’t really believe that. He knows about Yuu’s past, so he can put two and two together. He just came up with that excuse because he wanted to spare her from having to tell Kalim the truth.
(Jamil often does this kind of thing for Yuu. If she’s ever backed into a corner when he’s around, he’ll lend her a hand. Of course, he always says his help is the price he pays in exchange for her continuing to be his ally since he has deemed her as being useful to him because of her Quirk and all the connections she has made at NRC. Plus, she also promised to help him one day obtain his freedom, and he has every intention to ensure she makes good on that promise.
It’s totally not because he genuinely sees her as his friend and he finds himself wanting to look after her. Nope, not at all lol)
Fortunately, Kalim completely believes Jamil’s lie and doesn’t even think to question it. Instead, he’s too busy feeling sad about Yuu losing such precious memories.
Thankfully, Kalim is quick to rebound and promptly declares that they need to give Yuu a new birthday so they can celebrate it as soon as possible to make up for all the birthday memories she lost.
At first, Kalim tries to make it that very day, but Jamil makes him see reason since that’s too short notice. Plus, the other dorms wouldn’t be pleased if they didn’t get a heads up on Yuu’s birthday since they would want to be a part of the festivities as well.
Kalim obviously doesn’t want anyone to miss out on celebrating their shared friend’s birthday. That’s what leads to him coming up with what he thinks is a brilliant idea.
They’ll have a week of celebrations for Yuu’s birthday! For each day of that week, one of the dorms will be in charge of hosting a party to celebrate Yuu’s special day. This way she can get all the birthday fun and memories she deserves. As far as Kalim is concerned, the more parties, the better!
While Yuu thinks this is too extreme, Jamil actually agrees with the idea since he knows that this would be the only way to appease all the dorms who would be trying to get the honor of hosting Yuu’s birthday party if only one was held.
Technically, it could just be held at Ramshackle, but considering this will basically be Yuu’s first birthday, Jamil is sure that all the dorms would want to host parties at their own dorms so they can all show off and do something extra special for her.
Plus, this would lead to less arguing between dorms, who would all want to take charge of the party if it was held at Ramshackle, and the dorms could compete to see who could throw the best party lol
Since Yuu sees the reason behind Jamil’s words and can’t say no to Kalim’s puppy dog eyes, she finally agrees to Kalim’s idea but only if all the dorm leaders approve since she doesn’t wanna make any of them feel like they have to do it.
Kalim immediately pulls out his phone so he can text all the dorm leaders in a group chat to deliver the news. Just as Kalim and Jamil expected, the other dorm leaders approve of the idea of each dorm getting to throw a party for Yuu, and they all immediately start calling dibs on certain days haha
Poor Malleus wasn’t included in the group chat since he never uses his phone, and Kalim just forgot about him so Diasomnia gets stuck with the last day of the birthday week since that’s what was left lol 😂
Yuu is surprised that everyone so readily agreed to the idea, and that even Idia was in support of it.  She wonders if Ortho was using his brother’s phone for him while Idia was gaming lol
While Ortho was hovering over his shoulder the whole time, Idia was the one typing in the chat. He wasn’t fond of the party idea for obvious reasons, but Ortho was. Plus, Yuu is one of Idia’s only friends so he didn’t wanna be the one guy who didn’t want to do something for her birthday.
Honestly, though, it probably just turns out to be like a private party in Idia’s room with just Yuu and the Shroud brothers, which Yuu would be fine with. It’d probably be a nice reprieve if she has to go through multiple days of large parties beforehand haha
Anyway, all the dorm leaders wanna take a chance to do something nice for Yuu since she’s their friend. Obviously, most of them don’t wanna actually admit it outright and instead just say it’s all for showing up the other dorms and proving who’s superior when it comes to celebrating everyone’s favorite prefect lol
In regards to the explanation behind Yuu’s loss of memories, everyone for the most part believes the excuse since they can’t think of another explanation for why someone would forget their own birthday like that.
The only ones who don’t believe that excuse are Leona and Ruggie because they’ve been suspicious of Yuu’s background for a while now. They know she didn’t come from a good place. After all, there’s no way someone who had forgotten how to smile and learned how to do it at NRC, of all places, had a good upbringing.
However, neither of them bring up their suspicions since they both decided not to stick their noses in Yuu’s business. Well, it was mostly Leona’s decision since Ruggie really does wanna know the whole story. Leona just ordered him not to bother her about it lol
Malleus and Lilia probably also sense that there’s more to this than what meets the eye since they both have similar suspicions about Yuu.
Lilia can no doubt tell just from watching Yuu that she’s got the eyes of a warrior that has seen her fair share of battles. It’s a sad thought to him, considering how young she is.
However, neither of them would bring attention to her past. Instead, since he also forgot his actual birthday, I see Lilia making jokes about how he and Yuu are two birds of a feather and how they should help each other remember their birthdays from now on.
I just love the idea of Yuu getting a whole week of birthday celebrations where each day she spends time hanging out with a different dorm, enjoying all these different ways everyone wants to celebrate her special day.
In regards to what date gets chosen for her birthday, I like the idea of her birthday being in the spring since that’s the season of new beginnings, which seems very fitting for Yuu. Plus, on the timeline, this would be after Yuu has become good friends with the Twst cast, so I think any day in April would be a good choice for her. The last week of April would be ideal since that wouldn’t get in the way of Vil’s and Ruggie’s birthday celebrations.
Going back to the dorm competition, I can see the dorms really getting into it since they’re always looking for an opportunity to prove themselves superior lol
Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Octanivelle, and Scarabia are especially confident in their ability to throw the best party because they each have the trump card of having at least one of Yuu’s favorite cooks in their dorm, which I talked about here.
Heartslabyul is also confident because Ace & Deuce are sure that any party that has Yuu’s best friends in it would obviously be her favorite. However, Riddle has some doubts about that considering how much trouble those two cause her on a daily basis lol That’s why he has every intention to whip them into shape so they will be on their best behavior during the party and the birthday week as a whole. RIP ADeuce 😂
Savanaclaw is confident because when is Leona ever not? lol Jokes aside, it’s a common fact that Yuu is close to the Savanclaw trio and spends a lot of time with them since she gets along so well with them, partly because Leona/Ruggie were two of the first people she became acquainted with since in my version of the story she meets them on the day she’s working as a janitor. That’s why she’s so comfortable around them and because they’re courteous toward women, which is something she was not used to prior to coming to TW.
With the kind of personality she has, Yuu just fits in really well with the Savanaclaw group. Of course, it also helps that she loves animals, so the animal ears totally draw her in lol
Savanaclaw also has Jack whom Yuu is very biased toward because he’s her favorite son who never does anything wrong/never causes her any trouble. She absolutely adores him for that reason and because he’s so hardworking, much to his embarrassment and his upperclassmen’s amusement haha
That combined with Ruggie’s cooking and Leona’s charms (because of course Leona considers himself a key factor in why Yuu likes his dorm so much) makes it clear that their dorm is superior. Now, they just have to get that message across to all the other dorms.
Aside from having the Tweel’s cooking, Octanivelle believes they’re superior because the Octotrio and Yuu are coworkers at the Mostro Lounge. A bond forged through customer service cannot be easily broken 😂
Plus, it’s a well known fact that Yuu enjoys Floyd’s hugs. While a large part of that is because she’s touch starved, which is why she doesn’t fear his squeezes like everyone else, the other reason is because he really is good at giving hugs when he’s not trying to break any bones lol
The Octotrio consider themselves to be very knowledgeable about Yuu because of all the time they spend together at work, so they are confident that they can pull off a party that surpasses anything the other dorms can pull off.
Scarabia is confident because Jamil is. Unlike everyone else, Jamil knows about Yuu’s past which makes him believe that he understands her the best out of everyone. (He’s totally smug about this, not that he’d ever admit it lol)
That combined with his cooking skills and the fact that Yuu adores the always sweet and cheerful Kalim, who reminds her of the heroes she admired back in her world, is a winning combination in Jamil’s eyes.
However, there is one thing he has to worry about: Kalim going overboard. Kalim would totally want to make the party as extravagant as possible and spare no expense, which would overwhelm Yuu who’s not used to such attention and having a lot of money spent on her.
So the whole time during the party planning, Jamil is constantly having to keep Kalim under control so Yuu won’t suffer a heart attack because of their dorm’s party lol
Pomefiore is confident because Vil is always confident. Once he decides to do something, he makes it happen and won’t accept anything but the best possible results. He’ll pull off the kind of birthday party that’ll be just as impressive as he is.
Aside from having Vil, the other advantage Pomefiore would have is Epel because he’s another of Yuu’s sons who doesn’t cause her a lot of trouble. While he does occasionally get into trouble, he’s nowhere near as bad as ADeuce and Grim which Yuu is very grateful for.
Epel is bound and determined to do his part to make his dorm’s party a success since he doesn’t want to lose to the other dorms/first years. Plus, he wants to properly show his appreciation for Yuu since she’s a good friend whom he’s very grateful to have met because she’s always supporting him and he thinks she truly sees him for who he really is.
Rook would be another advantage of theirs because he is very knowledgeable about Yuu because he always pays such close attention to her. He finds her fascinating, so of course, he made sure to learn as much as possible about her.
While Vil doesn’t necessarily approve of Rook’s methods to gain such information, he makes sure to make good use of it lol
Ignihyde is the only dorm that’s not enthusiastic about this competition since parties are just a nightmare for Idia. Yes, he would like to celebrate his friend’s birthday, but why does he have to throw a huge party to do that? Why must normies always make his life so difficult?
Thankfully, Ortho comes to the rescue by suggesting a private party with just the two of them, Yuu, and Grim in Idia’s room since he thinks that Yuu would enjoy a quiet, relaxing party after dealing with all the eventful parties all the other dorms will be throwing.
After all, Yuu is the type to appreciate the little things and has no interest in extravagance anyway, so why not just focus on ensuring she has an enjoyable time with them rather than all the party theatrics? Surely, that would be the kind of party Yuu would enjoy most of all.
Idia is all for this plan and immediately takes a liking to the thought of getting to watch anime and play games with Yuu, Ortho, and Grim all day while eating lots of sweets. Now, that’s a kind of celebration he can get behind haha
Ortho is confident that Ignihyde will do well in the competition since they’ll be prioritizing Yuu’s comfort and ensuring she gets a completely stress free experience, which is exactly what someone as hardworking as her needs and deserves.
Of course, it also helps that Yuu adores Ortho because he’s so cute and another of her sons that doesn’t cause trouble. He’s right on up there with Jack on her good son list haha
When he finds out about Yuu’s birthday situation, Malleus sulks at little at first over not being invited to the conversation the other dorm leaders had since that led to his dorm getting stuck with the last day of the birthday week. However, he does start to feel better when Lilia tells him that it’s always best to save the best for last anyway.
Diasomnia is very confident about throwing a successful/amazing birthday party. After all, Malleus is a dear friend of Yuu’s whom she likes very much, so she’ll obviously be very happy to spend a day with him and his dorm.
Plus, Diasomnia has another of Yuu’s sons, Sebek, even though he still shows some resistance about that title despite Malleus and Lilia both giving Yuu their blessings on the adoption lol
Sebek’s another of Yuu’s sons that doesn’t cause her a lot of trouble, which she really appreciates, and she finds it cute how Sebek is never honest about his feelings. And they’re book buddies which Yuu really likes since she enjoys having someone to talk about books with.
So Diasomnia definitely thinks they have an advantage. However, there is one major problem with this scenario which is that Lilia wants to cook for the party, so Malleus/Silver/Sebek are in for a tough battle 😂
All in all, all the dorms are very confident that they’ll win this competition. Hopefully, Yuu won’t have to decide on a winner; otherwise, she’ll be in trouble because she does not wanna have to deal with that kinda pressure on her birthday lol
Unusual Muse Questions
Tumblr media
Which way do they hang the toilet roll, over or under? Seeing how in the olden days, they would usually use rags or corn cobs to get the job done, this is definitely just for modern verse lol. In modern, Ben hangs the TP over.
How do they sleep? Do they have any routine that they must do first? Do they steal the covers, etc? His sleep is very fitful. Ben tosses and turns, and more often than not just gets back up again to tend to other duties. In his mind, his work is never finished, which largely aids in his restlessness.
How do they hold a pen? Do they have any writing quirks? Ben uses a quill, but only exhibits noticeable quirks when he’s anxious. In 4x9, for instance, when he told Anna he was writing a fake love letter for her, he couldn’t stop tapping his finger against the quill. He gets very fidgety when under pressure. Other than that, his handwriting is slanted and relatively neat (basing this off the love letter shared on T.witter).
What traditionally unconventional features do they have (acne, crooked teeth, unibrow, etc)? Ben has very crooked bottom teeth, and a couple skin-colored beauty marks (one on his chin and one above his upper lip). He also has abnormally large hands (long fingers, in particular).
What is their shower routine? There were no showers in the past, but if there were, his routine would be much the same as it is with his bathing. Ben is very busy, so he prefers to get in and get out”; this is why he opts more for bathing with a washstand (meaning, he just rinses and pats himself down). Submersion baths are rare and a luxury in camp. Despite his tendency to rush with bathing, that doesn’t mean he isn’t well-groomed or careful with his appearance. He definitely takes time to shave and be presentable, seeing how that’s part of his duty as an officer.
How do they deal with illness? Ben would rather push himself towards death than ever admit he’s ill. He considers being sick an inconvenience, and if he’s physically capable of moving about, he’s definitely not going to stop just because he’s unwell. This is very evident in S4, in particular, when he just keeps burning the candle from both ends.
Are they a visual learner? Kinesthetic learner? Auditory learner? It’s a mixture of visual and kinesthetic. Ben tends to learn mostly from reading and demonstration, and in result, is fond of teaching in this manner as well.
What do their hands look like? Large with long fingers and callouses. Despite his relatively high station in life, he works hard and has endured manual labor during his childhood. His father believed it would build character rather than getting servants to do the work for them.
What mundane bad habits do they have (do they always let food expire, don't wash their hands, chew with their mouth open, etc)? Ben is definitely someone who fidgets constantly. His most common way of subconsciously showing anxiety is rubbing his thumb on the pommel of his saber, as well as lightly tugging on it. This is a grounding technique he uses without truly being aware of what he’s doing.
How do they usually spend their birthday? Ben isn’t really one to enjoy being fussed over, so he treats it like any other day. If he’s up to it, he’ll happily spend the afternoon with family and friends, but for the most part, would prefer that he not be treated any differently than usual. His religious upbringing also aids in this attitude; he doesn’t want to feel elevated for any reason since to celebrate himself feels sinful.
What is one common misconception or incorrect fact that they completely believe? Definitely that he’s always right lol.
What are their red flags or their #cancellable trait? Probably his period typical m.isogyny. I wouldn’t say it’s overtly bad or anything, but he definitely gets confused and frustrated when the women he deals with don’t obey his orders. Ben conveniently forgets that they’re not beholden to follow his commands, unlike his men, so his brain gets all *dial-up noises* whenever dealing with Anna and Mary, in particular. He also has a HUGE temper when he’s stressed.
Are they the type to make a shopping list, get what they want and leave, or meander? Do they try to carry all their bags at once or take a few at a time? He'd definitely make a list and get in/get out. He tries to be as efficient as possible.
What is their go-to curse word? Ben doesn’t really swear too often, but he tends to gravitate towards “dammit,” “hell” and "arsehole," with the occasional “bastard” sprinkled in.
What do they collect (candles, bottles, coins, shiny rocks)? Books! Ben LOVES books, and will happily read about any topic, simply because he wants to learn as much about the world around him as possible.
Do they like to plan things in advance? Or are they the type to show up somewhere uninvited? Ben is definitely a planner. Sometimes, his plans will get derailed *cough* ABE *cough* and he gets extremely nettled when he has to rework his plans.
What's one thing they think they're talented at that they really, really aren't? This is a tough one. Ben is genuinely pretty good at a little bit of everything. He’s very smart and well-educated, and he’s also self-aware enough to know when he’s bad at something (i.e. singing and dancing (he’s so-so at the latter)), so for this one, I guess I’ll take Anna’s, line of, “Sometimes you ask too much of people,” because Ben doesn’t seem to realize his limits. And because of that, he has a difficult time seeing others’ limits, too. In his mind, everyone should workworkwork and just focus on the outcome rather than the journey, so he doesn’t often stop and consider the negative impact so long as the ends justify the means. I know that’s not really what the prompt asked, but I genuinely can’t think of anything that Ben believes he’s good at, but isn’t.
Drowning in grey
The worst thing is when the desperation hits. That icky, clingy, sticky desperation where you feel like you’re somebody drowning and you’re ready to push someone under just to get up. The type where you feel that, wait, I don’t feel like me anymore. It’s funny, because I’d finally reached a point where I stopped being willing to put up with being a doormat and being the one who always had to first reassure the other person and put them in a safe mind space before I could safely tell them how something they did or said hurt me. Once you do that for a long time.. well, I dunno, some people may put up with it for life, but I finally reached my boiling point. Either, I confront, head on, or it’s done. That or in another case, door slam. And phew, do I rarely doorslam. But it’s been changing for me. Getting to that age where you feel you do deserve more and where the other person should give you as much leeway as you give them. I hate conflict. Fricking loathe it. I want peace and harmony more than anything, both because I just want everyone to get along, but also because, well, trauma. The fear I derive from conflict is out of this world. I feel like I’m being annihilated. It shouldn’t be that way, not after all these years, but it is. They’re the hardest scars to heal. And finally, I got to the point where I drew a line. Several, even. And lo and behold, the other person would never put up with you drawing a boundary as you would put up with them crossing it again and again... and again. So yay, I evolved. I can draw boundaries. What’s the alternative? Cognitive darkness. Isolation. There are so few people in the world I ever connect with that I was willing to put up for over a decade of broken promises and making me feel like being their friend was a burden on them. And there’s always one re-emerging pattern I’ve noticed. Try to connect with “normal” positive people? Ha, lol. I’m a walking red flag to them. Or something. My insecurity wrecks everything from the get-go. I overanalyze what I should say, “act more casual, gerddermit!” and I fricking can’t. I can’t stop self-surveying which results in self-sabotage. And I think, well, maybe they’re an asshole anyway if they judge me so harshly for being insecure... because I don’t act mean. In fact, I find that many “normal” confident people can act quite mean and everyone else is all in awe and admiration of them. Trying to be nice? “Plz don’t bonk me” vibes ruin me every time. And I cannot for the love of me turn them off. And those who don’t mind them...? Turn out to have overwhelming narcy traits, of course. They see the insecurity and think, oh. Either I can use this person for my convenience or give ‘em a good kick once in a while when I need a boost, and they’ll still be around, begging for another kick in the future. So, if that’s the option... if being broken means you can only attract other broken people.. and not even people like yourself who don’t want conflict, who just want solid, honest, open family-like friendships, then... does it mean you DO put up with it? Do you accept that the other person’s brokenness means you’ll always be the victim of it? Or do you accept isolation. I’m sure that’s a false dichotomy, it just so hasn’t been disproven in my case. I’m heart-broken. Everyone I care about and invest in most often turn out to be narcissistic to some degree if not full-blown. I’m tired, man. I’m tired of trying and starting over. But there’s no other option.. to keep trying, even when the panic becomes so overwhelming that I feel that I must repel everyone in my vicinity. But that need to be seen.. and understood. For someone to get exactly what you mean, your quirks, your hints, your personality, someone who knows what you meant when you said a silly joke, or said a weird made-up word, and so on. Without thinking, wow, what a weirdo/freak, lol, what a loser, as most seem to do, hence why masking is a fave.. Someone who knows what encapsulates you and who knows to give you the benefit of the doubt because they know you’d never say or do A, B, or C. Just someone you could chill with, be at ease with. Share your thoughts or just useless random drivel. I just wanna feel safe, sigh. I would just like to receive what I give. It seems that everyone else just.. has a multitude of friends and.. I can’t even have one. Not really. Or I have a friend and that nagging feeling that, well, this won’t last long. I just so often wish I could give up whoever it is that I am.. just so I could be like everyone else, put my head in the sand and apparently live some happy-go-lucky life where nothing ever scratches you deeply. Instead, I’m a wandering satellite dish for all emotions and suffering around me, being drowned in an emotional information overload. Tired. I really struggle putting my thoughts into words. It’s like all scrambled up there. But.. gotta keep trying. Zz.
pre-departure blog
IM GOING TO IRELAND!
The closer and closer it gets to departure (May 31st), the less and less prepared I feel. This is saying a lot for someone who sets 150 alarms a day, has an itinerary for literally everything, and cannot live without lists and calendars. It almost does not feel real, like I am on an episode of Punked or something. Traveling is something I have always loved, and I have always wanted to go to Europe, but I never believed it would happen, especially this soon after the start of the pandemic. For many reasons, but especially since I have not traveled in a super long time, I have tried my best to not set expectations for the country as well as the class. I am hopeful that it will be a great experience, the country that produced Niall Horan must have some special qualities.
As for the class in particular, I am SO excited! Study abroad trips have always been super intriguing, but also just seemed so far out of reach. Paying for a summer course can be super expensive, let alone a summer course in another country. I was very surprised, and extremely thankful, for the amount of options available when it came to affording this trip. I am forever grateful for the various people who helped make this trip possible, special shoutout to my mom and the wonderful people in the EKU Study Abroad office. Honorable mention goes to Dr. Day for convincing me to take Enchanted Women of Ireland in the first place.
MY GOALS FOR IRELAND:
TRY AT LEAST ONE NEW FOOD AND ONE NEW DRINK: Trying new things, especially food, has always been hard for me and normally results in some sort of anxiety. In Ireland I want to try one new food and one new drink, not only to enjoy the culture, but also to expand my palette further than that of a five year olds.
TAKE PICTURES: I have a hard time taking pictures, especially ones that involve myself. I either forget or do not like how something looks and convince myself I would rather forego the memory completely, but I have gone so many places and always regret not having photos to look back on or to show others. Without being on my phone the entire trip, I do want to take at least one picture at most places we go.
JOURNAL: In addition to pictures and blog posts, I would love to have these experiences written in a place just for me to look back on and reflect.
HOPES: Complete my goals, and make new friends.
FEARS: Falling in love with the country and never wanting to come back to the US
PERSONALITY QUIRKS: If you are traveling with me you should know that my main personality trait is being a pisces who loves Harry Styles and crystals.
I hope you enjoy following along this adventure with me.
Féach leat in Éirinn! (See you in Ireland!)
Acting pro se comes with risks
Acting pro se comes with risks:
Court rules apply to nonlawyers, too
The Rules of Civil Procedure state that any party to a suit may appear and prosecute or defend his rights therein.
If you represent yourself in court, then you are held to the same standards as a Texas licensed attorney.
You will likely find yourself in a probate case by sheer happenstance:
Someone close to you died.
The same goes for a guardianship case: The capacity of your relative or friend is suddenly at issue.
If you are like most people, that probate or guardianship case will be your first, and only, brush with the judicial system.
Because you are involved through no fault of your own, you may think that an informal approach is appropriate.
No need to spend money frivolously on an attorney when you can just show up in court and tell the judge your opinion, right?
Be careful.
You are about to become the dreaded “pro se litigant.”
You can represent yourself, of course.
The Rules of Civil Procedure state that any party to a suit may appear and prosecute or defend his rights therein.
You can also stick your head into quicksand.
You may get the same results.
If you represent yourself in court, then you are held to the same standards as a Texas licensed attorney.
Otherwise, you would be given an unfair advantage over parties who are represented by counsel.
You must comply with all the applicable laws and rules of procedure.
The Texas Rules of Civil Procedure apply to probate and guardianship proceedings, but only to the extent they do not differ from the procedure established by the Estates Code.
That is just the starting point.
Most courts also have local rules that must be followed, and almost all courts routinely enter scheduling orders, with more deadlines, in contested matters.
Pleadings, motions and other papers that are filed with the clerk in a case must contain certain information or they can be stricken.
Some types of pleadings are required to be verified or supported with an affidavit to be effective.
When you sign a pleading, then you are certifying to the court that you have read it, and that to the best of your knowledge, information and belief formed after reasonable inquiry, the instrument is not groundless and brought in bad faith or groundless and brought for the purpose of harassment.
The courts are serious about this.
If you sign a document in violation of this rule, then the court can, on its own initiative, assess sanctions against you.
It is not a valid defense for you to say that you were ignorant of the rule.
Outside the courtroom, you could be served with a discovery document.
This might come in the form of a request for production of documents or things, a request for admissions, interrogatories or even a notice to take your deposition.
Every type of discovery document has built-in deadlines which, if missed, could mean you waived a valid defense or claim.
You could even be liable to pay the other side’s attorneys’ fees and costs.
Once you are in a hearing, you are held to the rules of courtroom etiquette and procedure.
You are also held to the Rules of Evidence, which govern how testimony and exhibits are introduced and authenticated.
Your opinion, however well-considered, is probably not admissible evidence.
Then there are the appeals.
It is a quirk of probate and guardianship cases that some court rulings must be appealed while the case is still pending.
You are held to those appellate deadlines. Miss them and you lose.
You, as a pro se litigant, will get the same amount of justice as any other party.
Now if only you knew how to avoid the quicksand ….
Gogoat for Pokemon Unite!
Tumblr media
Season 1
Season 2
Prev: Cradily - Hatterene - Tropius - Cacturne - Ditto - Weavile - Ogerpon - Coalossal
Pokemon is a series based entirely on tradition. You have aspects of the game that have been in place since Pokemon Red and Blue, such as six pokemon slots, eight Gyms you need to beat, an Elite 4, and an opposing terrorist organization that you, a child, must dismantle.
But as the games ride on, old traditions are challenged and broken, and these are most apparent in Gen 6, with the introduction of the Fairy Type and rideable pokemon, like Gogoat. These rideable pokemon paved the way for what would eventually be the fazing out of the HM system and other features like our main ‘mons Koraidon and Miraidon in Gen 9, and we owe it all to the innovations Gogoat and friends has shown us.
So can this green goat goad us into giving it a chance in Pokemon Unite? Let’s give it a gander.
-
Tumblr media
Based on first impressions, Gogoat has a bit of beef to its defensive profile, but don’t let that high HP fool you. Yes, it’s very high, but its offset by its very low Defense and Sp. Defense. Its Defense does increase with its Grass Pelt ability, but there’s little it can do about that Speed stat. Respectable offensive stats show that it can roll with either Attack or Sp. Attack, but it has standard attacks for a Grass Type, nothing that really stands out, y’know. It’s real claim to fame has and always will be the fact that it is practically built to give rides to people and pokemon, proving to be really dependable in that regard. As such, to really prove itself, I designate Gogoat with the role of a...
Supporter
-
Basic Attack - Melee/Attack
The pokemon delivers a harsh swing with its horns. This basic attack can be charged to deal increased damage to enemies and to also Throw them on hit. This attack can also be charged while the pokemon is running and carrying an ally.
The attack is a short ranged swing of the pokemon’s horns. It can be charged to deal more damage and Throw enemies a short distance. It takes 1.5 seconds to fully charge and deal 2.5x more damage.
It takes 0.75 seconds to fully charge the basic attack. The resulting attack Thrown enemies a short distance and renders them unable to act until they land.
While carrying an ally, this basic attack can be charged while moving. Otherwise, it can only be done standing still.
For a Supporter, Gogoat has some heft to its horns, which allows it to deal heavy damage when it needs to. Being able to charge your basic attack to unleash a short ranged Throw attack can be annoying to deal with in the middle of a fight, but that’s just how most goats roll. You turn your back on them for a second, and they’ll decide to just headbutt your butt with their head.
There’s also a short bit about charging the attack while giving an ally a ride. Yes, Gogoat is able to pick up allies with its moves like how Lapras could, or at least the version of Lapras I wrote before it officially came to the game, but as you can do this with regular moves instead of a Unite Move, it’s got some quirks to it. For the most part, you’re the armored carrier that brings reinforcements to battle, which is how you play as an offensive Supporter like Gogoat.
And when I say armored, I mean armored with thick heavy foliage.
-
Ability: Grass Pelt
When the pokemon is in Tall Grass, it slowly gains a shield. The longer you stay, the greater the shield becomes. If you are carrying an ally, the ally also gains a shield.
After 1.5 seconds of standing in Tall Grass, Skiddo and Gogoat generate 5% shield every second. The shield gained by Grass Pelt caps to 25%.
The shield gained by Grass Pelt will not fade away while within Tall Grass. The shield can be regained if it was lost in battle by standing in Tall Grass.
Any ally pokemon you are carrying will also gain a Shield through Grass Pelt at the same rate. The shield they get scales with your HP.
Likewise, the ally’s Grass Pelt shield can be regenerated if they are being carried by you and you are standing within Tall Grass, though this is typically unfeasible in the middle of a fight.
The shield gained by Grass Pelt lasts twice as long as a regular shield.
Gogoat has the ability to get a big shield by grazing in Tall Grass, which is handy for a Supporter that needs some protection to ride into battle. It may take a while, but it’s the freest big shield you can get at any time. Because Tall Grass is everywhere, all it takes is about 6 seconds of break time to get a fully powered Grass Pelt shield, you just need to take a rain check if a big fight is going on.
Also, the shield can be repaired by just going back into the cover of Tall Grass. Yeah, it may not be cool to disengage from a battle just to refresh your shield, but Goodra does it too when they’re even a little bit hurt, so no one will hold it against you if you retreat with a small chunk of your shield gone.
If you have an ally riding your back, you’ll even share the shield with them while waiting to engage a fight. They just have to wait for the ability to fill out their shield and they’ll be good to go. But you should know that they cannot regain or repair the shield by themselves as you’re the one with the Grass Pelt ability, so it’s up to you to make sure your friends are well guarded and Supported.
Because, you know, you’re a Supporter, despite how hard your attacks can hit.
-
Tumblr media
At the start of the game, Gogoat will start out as Skiddo. You can choose between Tackle and Growth as your first move. By Level 2, you’ll have learned both.
-
Move 1: Tackle (Buff)
The pokemon charges straight forward and starts running, damaging and crashing into the first enemy you hit. You can put an ally on your back by running into them, dealing increased damage to enemies and also Stunning them. 9s cooldown.
The pokemon’s Movement Speed increases by 20% during Tackle. The move ends when you hit an enemy or after 6 seconds, after which the move goes on cooldown.
If you run past an ally, you will pick them up and carry them on your back. If you collide with an enemy, you’ll deal 2.5x more damage and Stun them for 1 second.
The ally can dismount by using any Move, but they can use their basic attack freely without dismounting.
The ally pokemon cannot be targeted by enemies while riding.
Goats are known for two things, eating anything and fighting anything. While Gogoat’s diet won’t come into scrutiny for this post, we have to utilize its brazen headstrong attitude for most of its attacks. Starting off, Tackle is a straightforward move that sends Skiddo running forward at increased speed, letting it damage an enemy and allows it to keep running afterwards.
Tackle is how Skiddo and Gogoat operate as emergency transport, as they will pick up allies that need a lift when they pass by. Unlike Lapras’ Unite Move, Lapras Express, allies will dismount easily when they try to use a move, but the upside is that you don’t stop running when you hit an enemy. Just know that, because Tackle ends when you hit someone, you won’t be able to pick up allies afterwards, so using it to dive into a fight to save an ally will not work out the way you think it will.
On the plus side, Tackle hits harder and Stuns if you run into an enemy while carrying someone, which can give your teammate the opening they need to unleash some burst damage, or the equivalent of such attacks available to them in the early game. If only there was a way to power them up for that inevitable confrontation.
Oh wait, there is!
-
Move 2: Growth (Buff)
The pokemon’s Attack and Sp. Attack is boosted for a short while. Any ally you are carrying also receives this boost. 6s cooldown.
Your Attack and Sp. Attack increase by 50% for 5 seconds. The ally you are carrying will also receive this boost if you use this move while they are on your back.
Similar to Crustle’s Shell Smash, Skiddo and Gogoat have an option to amplify their offensive capabilities with an easy to refresh buff available to them. Growth boosts your Attack and Sp. Attack by 50% for 5 seconds, and you can even share that buff with your teammate when they’re riding on you. And because the buff runs out 1 second before the Move comes off of cooldown, you can quickly reset the buff to keep up the fight, sooner if you have any cooldown manipulating items and emblems.
Now, while your ally does get a free X Attack through Growth, they cannot use any Moves while riding you without dismounting. They can only spam the basic attack button and activate their ability if they are able to, meaning the best teammates to take advantage of this arrangement is an ally with a very effective basic attack like Mewtwo Y or Dreepy. Not to say that Melee attackers can’t make it work, but some of them may be forced to dismount if their basic attack forces them to dash like Leafeon or Zacian. Just focus on getting your allies to where they need to go and drop them off with a helpful power boost.
I mean, you can also join in the fight too, but maybe you should take a backseat to scuffles until you’re high leveled enough to evolve.
-
Tumblr media
At Level 5, Skiddo will evolve into Gogoat. At the same time, Tackle will become either Horn Leech or Aerial Ace.
-
Move 1a: Horn Leech (Recovery)
The pokemon charges with its horns outward, damaging enemies and restoring HP. You can pick up an ally pokemon during the charge, dealing increased damage to enemies and restoring more HP. The ally will also restore HP when Horn Leech damages enemies. 9s cooldown.
At Level 10, Horn Leech becomes Horn Leech+.
Increases movement speed and HP restored.
For 6 seconds, Gogoat will move with its horns displayed outward. When Gogoat deals damage during Horn Leech, your HP is restored relative to the damage dealt.
If you pass by an ally pokemon, you will pick them up and carry them on your back. Like with Tackle, the ally can dismount with any Move but they can use their basic attacks freely.
Horn Leech deals 50% more damage and restores 20% more HP to you when carrying an ally. The carried ally also restores HP.
Your movement speed during Horn Leech is increased by 35%. Horn Leech+ increases this to 50% and you restore an additional 15% more HP through Horn Leech.
Horn Leech does the same thing for you as Tackle, in that you rush forward at increased movement speed and can damage enemies, but improves upon the move in all the important ways. Firstly, Horn Leech will not end when you run into someone, but instead after a set amount of time has passed. Secondly, as it is implied by the name, you do restore some HP relative to the amount of damage you deal to enemies gored by your horns.
And thirdly, you can pick up an ally while running headfirst with Horn Leech. They will still be stuck on your back until they dismount by using a Move, but it may be in their best interest to stay seated if they’ve taken a bit of a beating. Horn Leech will restore the HP of the ally riding on your back, whether you run into Wild Pokemon or the opposing team. You get to do some extra damage and heal some more out of the exchange, which is a nice compromise as you take all of the damage for your allies while giving them a ride.
Horn Leech is useful for rushing into a big fight and for making a big escape, as the attack doesn’t end when you hit someone. You are still vulnerable to damage and hindrances, so watch out for those in either situation.
If your need for speed is greater than your need to feed, Aerial Ace will be your preferred Move overall.
-
Move 1b: Aerial Ace (Dash/Buff)
The pokemon dashes forward and quickly dashes back, Stunning enemies hit by both attacks. Your movement speed increases afterwards for a short while. If a teammate is within range, the teammate is picked up and gains a movement speed boost when they dismount. If this move is used while a teammate is riding you, the user zigzags while dashing forward, increasing movement speed and Stunning enemies on hit and becoming Invincible during the attack. 5s cooldown.
At Level 10, Aerial Ace becomes Aerial Ace+.
Expands the range of the attack and increases Movement Speed gained.
Your Movement Speed increases by 35% for 3 seconds after using Aerial Ace. Hitting an enemy with both cuts of Aerial Ace Stuns them for 1 second.
If you use this attack on a teammate, you will pick them up and put them on your back in one quick motion. When they dismount, by using any Move, they will gain a 35% Movement Speed boost for 5 seconds.
When Gogoat is carrying an ally, it will move in a zigzag pattern quickly when it uses Aerial Ace. This briefly makes Gogoat and the ally it is carrying Invincible during the attack and your Movement Speed also increases by 35% for 3 seconds.
Aerial Ace+ doubles the range of the move and increases all Movement Speed boosts to 50%.
You ever see an ally getting their muffins mixed by multiple enemies? Don’t you ever think, ‘man, if only I could save them’? Well, that becomes possible with Aerial Ace, as not only does the move allow you to quickly dash in and out of a fight, picking up your teammate along the way, you’ll even Stun any enemies you managed to hit with both slashes of the move!
Not only that, you get a pretty nifty speed boost right afterwards, allowing you and your teammate to escape easily. Your teammate also gets this speed boost when they dismount as well if they need a quick pick-me-up to clear out the Central Area as soon as possible. Aerial Ace is designed for bold rescue operations such as this, and you are able to do this multiple times thanks to the low cooldown of the Move. It’s great for saving an ally that lacks the mobility to get away from a problematic opponent, but it’s also useful for Stunning enemies as needed, controlling the fight and keeping the power struggle in your favor.
Because of the move’s low cooldown, you can expect to have access to Aerial Ace again after a short ride. Since you’re already carrying an ally, Aerial Ace turns into an evasive dash that has you completely Invincible during the attack, allowing you to evade long range attacks like Inteleon’s Snipe Shot. It’s also a compelling opener to a team fight while carrying a bulky All-Rounder like Aegislash or Buzzwole, allowing you to dive into the middle of a fight and unleashing the most powerful attack from the center of the scuffle.
Of course, at this point, all you have to augment the power of your and your allies’ attack is just Growth, which is serviceable, but can be improved upon.
-
At Level 7, Growth becomes either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb.
-
Move 2a: Bulk Up (Buff)
The pokemon’s Attack, Sp. Attack, Defense, and Sp. Defense increase, and its HP recovery effects are also strengthened. If you are carrying an Ally Pokemon on your back, the ally receives these boosts as well. In addition, you and your ally gain Unstoppable for a short while. 10.5s cooldown.
At Level 12, Bulk Up becomes Bulk Up+.
Further increases boosts gained.
When Bulk Up is used, Gogoat’s Attack, Sp. Attack, Defense, and Sp. Defense increase by 60% for 6 seconds. Any HP you recover is restored by an additional 30% as well during the boost. If you are carrying an Ally Pokemon, the ally gains these boosts as well.
If you are carrying an Ally when you use Bulk Up, you and your Ally gain Unstoppable for 2.5 seconds.
Bulk Up+ increases the boosts gained to 75%. HP recovery effects are strengthened by 50% as well.
The extra HP your allies recover through Bulk Up will show on the results screen as attributed to you.
Goats are known to have some of the greatest moxie in the animal kingdom, which explains their questionable need to headbutt everything they see. I don’t know where it comes from, but in Gogoat’s case, it probably has something to do with its Bulk Up Move.
With one move, Gogoat’s Attack, Sp. Attack, Defense, Sp. Defense, and HP Recovery increase greatly for a short while. This allows Gogoat the muscle power it needs to join in team fights, whether to help finish off the enemy or to make a desperate retreat. While the Sp. Attack boost is useless to you, Bulk Up shares the boost with Ally pokemon riding you, which makes Bulk Up a helpful boon to any of your possible teammates.
Speaking of which, popping Bulk Up with an ally on your back grants you and your teammate the Unstoppable Status Effect, making you nearly impossible to hold down with hindrances. It won’t be of much help to an ally if you’re using this move to escape, but if you were to rush into a fight, Bulk Up would make for a powerful opener for you and a friend to crash the party with.
The powered up HP recovery effect means that you’ll restore a bit more HP from recovery effects like Horn Leech or Potion. If your allies understand what the Bulk Up boost grants you, they can also pop their own recovery for some extra juice, like the Potion Item or through moves like Venusaur’s Giga Drain or Goodra’s Dragon Pulse. It also means extra healing if you chose Horn Leech over Aerial Ace, though Horn Leech won’t be missed as much if your teammates have reliable sustain like Umbreon’s Wish or Buzzwole’s Leech Life. Though keep in mind that any move they use will cause them to dismount off of Gogoat, so you better come up with a plan of attack while riding to battle.
Though perhaps you can engineer an attack on your own terms to catch the enemy by surprise.
-
Move 2b: Seed Bomb (Area)
Launches a parade of hard shelled seeds on the designated area, damaging enemies and greatly reducing their Attack and Defense. If a teammate is riding you, they are thrown along with the seeds, dealing more damage and stunning enemies on hit. 7s cooldown.
At Level 12, Seed Bomb becomes Seed Bomb+.
Expands the range of the attack and further decreases Attack and Defense.
Seed Bomb decreases the enemies Attack and Defense by 75% for 7 seconds. If an ally was on your back when you use this move, the attacks deals 2.5x more damage and Stuns enemies that are hit by the shock wave caused by your allies’ landing for 0.5 seconds.
Seed Bomb+ further decreases the Attack and Defense of damaged enemies to 100%. The range is also effectively doubled.
Using this move forces you to stop moving, even while riding with Horn Leech.
While Bulk Up offers a variety of boosts to benefit any possible ally, Seed Bomb works in contrast by debuffing enemies with a concentrated effect. It can only debuff Attack and Defense, but the severity of the debuff is much stronger than Bulk Up’s boons and lasts for as long as the move’s cooldown. This means that, if you are up against physical enemies like Crustle or Tyranitar, Seed Bomb enfeebles them greatly compared to the Attack and Defense boost Bulk Up grants.
A 75% Attack and Defense debuff is no joke, as it can greatly bog down Defenders and Bulky All-Rounders that rely on those stats to take hits and return them back in kind. The debuff lasts for 7 seconds, which is just as long as the move’s cooldown, allowing you to reapply the debuff almost immediately when it wears off, putting the pressure on the opposition. Of course, you’ll need an Attack focused ally to take advantage of this debuff, though Melee Attackers will have the time of their life thanks to Seed Bomb’s secondary effect.
Since Gogoat launches Seed Bomb from its back, any ally it’s giving a ride to will be ejected just as well, turning them into a projectile. They’ll hit the ground with a solid thud, dealing extra damage to enemies and also stunning them briefly, in addition to hitting them with debuffs. That brief moment of Stun is all the time you need to start laying the smack down on the enemy, especially if they’re an Attack based All-Rounder or Defender like Aegislash or Trevenant. Ranged Attackers like Decidueye and Cinderace can also start putting holes in the enemy team, but they’ll have to dismount shortly before Gogoat uses Seed Bomb so that they don’t get caught in the middle of the enemy team when they wake up.
Seed Bomb+ expands the area of effect and even debuffs enemies even further when they get hit, allowing you to greatly debilitate a larger group of enemies, especially during the Rayquaza fight. You just have to hope that the ally you’re throwing will also be sufficiently leveled enough to clean up afterwards, as you can expect the entire enemy team to be there.
As strong as Gogoat is, it’s only a distraction that empowers its teammates with free rides and boons. Yes, it hits hard, but only so that it can either finish off weakened enemies or to soften them up for its allies. As such, it’s Unite Move perfectly encapsulates Gogoat’s ability to occupy an enemy for the team.
-
Unite Move: Clashing Crowns (Dash)
The pokemon charges at an enemy and locks heads with it, forcing the enemy into a contest of strength. You and the target must mash the attack button repeatedly to overpower the other. If you win, the enemy will lose a portion of their HP and have their defenses reduced for a short while. The enemy will lose more HP if they do not mash enough. If you lose, you will lose half of your HP. If you have an ally pokemon riding you, they can also join in, adding their strength to yours.
Similar to Slowbro’s Slow Beam and Mimikyu’s Play With Me..., this Unite Move forces an enemy into an immovable state. The clash lasts only for 3 seconds, though.
Assuming the enemy mashes to the maximum degree but loses the clash regardless, the least HP an enemy can lose to this Unite Move is 20%. However, if the enemy barely mashes, they can lose up to 50% of their HP.
If you lose the mashing contest, you will lose 50% of your HP regardless of how well you mashed. An ally pokemon riding you can mash as well during the clash, contributing their strength to yours.
In extremely rare circumstances where both players are evenly matched, neither player will lose HP.
HP lost is based on the percentage of remaining HP and is classified as piercing damage. This Unite Move can never KO.
The enemy will have their Defense and Sp. Defense reduced by 75% for 8 seconds after losing.
Both you and the enemy can still be targeted and damaged by other players. The Unite Move will be cancelled if you are KO’d.
When a pokemon is targeted, they will adopt the same idle animation as charging a score in a Goal Zone. Pokemon like Lucario, Machamp, Pikachu, and Charizard have cool poses, but others have strange and goofy ones, like Mr. Mime juggling balls or Chandelure waving its arms around. These aren’t intentional, these are just the scoring animations each pokemon has.
Only opposing Gogoats will use a unique animation when targeted by Clashing Crowns.
When a goat charges at you, you have to turn away instead of charging them head on. The reason for that is because goats are built for literal head-to-head combat, and you are risking major damage to yourself by stooping to their level. But when you’re a Gogoat in a world of competition, everyone else might as well look like goats.
Clashing Crowns is a powerful Unite Move that challenges the first enemy you run into to a test of strength. Upon a successful hit, you and the enemy will be locked in mortal mashing, pounding the attack button as much as you can to claim victory. Because of how easy it is to catch an enemy off-guard, you’ll have a head start on the button bashing power. Though you shouldn’t be surprised to run into an enemy well versed at mashing mini-games, as it is possible to lose this encounter.
Firstly, the fight lasts only for 3 seconds, during which either you or the enemy can get damaged by opposing team members. Even without anyone to interfere in the contest, the loser of the clash can lose a percentage of their HP if they don’t mash enough. For the opponent, they can lose half of their HP if they don’t really try all that hard, or up to 20% if they barely lose. But in your case, since you’re the one who initiated the duel, you’ll lose 50% of your HP for losing, regardless of how well you mashed.
You can guarantee victory by starting Clashing Crown with an ally riding on your back, as they can join in on the mashing as well. It’s a bit cheap to gang up on one enemy, but it’s not without cost. Remember, the Unite Move lasts for 3 seconds, during which you and an ally are occupied with an enemy, leaving the rest of your team in a 3v4 situation, which isn’t ideal in normal circumstances. During that time frame, the entire team can be wiped out because of the power difference, especially if you used Clashing Crowns with someone bulky on your back. Perhaps it would be best to ride with someone underleveled or when multiple enemies are respawning, to make up for the time lost.
As annoying as Clashing Crowns is, this Unite Move can never KO an enemy due to the damage dealt being based on remaining HP. It wouldn’t be worth using the move on a weakened enemy, especially since Gogoat is very strong for a Supporter and can go for the KO themselves. Maybe you can impede an opposing Defender or All-Rounder, but without backup, they’ll come out of the clash annoyed at you, and some can even restore their own HP if they can easily sustain themselves. You’ll need allies with you to make the most of this Unite Move, and I’m not just talking about the free ride mechanic. Gogoat can support a team well if there’s teammates nearby to support.
A rampaging goat can easily draw all the attention in the room. Take advantage of this opening and seize victory head on!
-
Achievements
Make 12 Assists in a single round.
Gogoat’s main function on teams is to provide free rides with some extra benefits through its moves. With Horn Leech and Aerial Ace scooping up allies, it’s easy to charge straight into a fight, but this achievement is about accumulating Assists, not KO’s.
For the most part, you and your allies benefit greatly from timely uses of either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb, but you have to know when it is optimal to dive into fights without getting yourself KO’d in turn. To that end, you should prepare with a shield gained by Grass Pelt, which you can share with an ally while standing in Tall Grass. It may take about 6 seconds to accrue a large shield, but it’ll be worth it to not get immediately destroyed by burst damage thrown at you by the opposing team.
After that, the fight can go however you want, especially if your ally is a ranged attacker. Though keep in mind that your ally will dismount if they use a Move, so you gotta open with either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb, then whittle the enemy down so that your teammate can clean up afterwards.
Your Unite Move, Clashing Crowns, makes this a lot easier as you cannot KO an enemy with the move, but you will take a large chunk of their HP in the exchange, which can be enough for a teammate to finish them off. I know you’d probably prefer to get the KO for yourself, but remember, you were a sitting duck for those 3 seconds. You gotta pull back and let your teammates fight too, especially if you were walloped while waging war with the enemy.
Don’t butt heads with your friends, butt heads with your enemies instead.
-
Holowear
Because Gogoat has an entire gimmick based on giving rides to its allies, we can’t really put anything big and flashy on its back. But that’s completely fine, as less is more, as they say.
Starting off, we have Explorer Style Holowear that gives Gogoat a brown explorer’s hat and loads of satchels and sacks hanging off of its sides. Warm Style Holowear gives it a beanie, a big scarf, and some comfy looking pants on its backside. Western Style Holowear gives it a big cowboy hat, a sheriff’s badge, and a poncho draped over its body. Gardener Style Holowear gives Gogoat a big sun hat, some overalls with shears and trowels peeking out of the pockets, and a sprig of wheat hanging out of its mouth. And lastly, Punk Style Holowear gives the goat some cool shades, bracelets on its horns and ankles, and a black leather suit that covers its body. Gotta ride in style, you know?
Strategy
Much of what you need to accomplish as Gogoat can be learned from playing Lapras, and vice versa. If you want to make for a good Supporter, you gotta bring yourself and an ally to where the important fight is. If you want to make for a great Supporter, you do that and more by dealing a lot of damage and making Assists.
Supporters are split into two camps; you have healers and buffers like Blissey and Eldegoss, and then you have those that specialize in distractions like Sableye and Mr. Mime. Some of them dabble in alternative proficiency, but for the most part, they’re the shoulders to lean on during a fight. Gogoat breaks this mold by not only doing both, but also dealing just as much damage to opposing teams in fights as its fellow Attackers and All-Rounders. This is what happens when you make friends with a stubborn goat.
First off, while its ride mechanic is somewhat weaker than Lapras’ Unite Move, Lapras Express, Gogoat compensates for that with the ability to empower the ally riding on it with healing and shields. With Horn Leech, you can drain HP from all enemies you run into, refilling the HP bar of yourself and an ally, which can be useful to save them from certain KO or to top them off before joining a fight. With Aerial Ace however, you trade in any possibility of healing with deft movement and quick strikes, allowing you to save a friend from getting ganged up on. It also turns into an invincible cutting attack while an ally is on your back, which can be useful in escaping long range shots and Unite Moves.
Regardless of which move you choose, these attacks form the crux of your ability to support the team as a Supporter. These moves, and Tackle, are the only way you can pick up allies to ride with, which is also the only way you can share a shield with them through your Grass Pelt ability. It takes 6 seconds to gain a massive 25% shield, which scales to your HP, but any amount will be greatly appreciated by your ally Defender or All-Rounder. If they are impatient, an ally can choose to dismount with any move, so don’t fault them for opting to jump back into the fight instead of waiting for Grass Pelt to fill out the shield.
Speaking of which, it’s also on your allies to understand how riding works, since the move is different from how Lapras does it. Only basic attacks can be used repeatedly while riding on Gogoat, and maybe some abilities that can be activated, and even then, a basic attack can force the ally to dismount if it makes them dash forward, like Gengar or Aegislash. Any Move will also cause a dismount, even if it’s only a buff like Crustle’s Shell Smash or Dodrio’s Agility, and this also include Unite Moves. It can be frustrating to manage allies if they keep accidentally hopping off, but thankfully it’s easy enough to pick a friend back up, as Horn Leech and Aerial Ace have much shorter cooldowns than Lapras Express.
While you have them on your back, you can power up yourself and your allies with either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb. Bulk Up grants a universal boost to all stats and your HP recovery, sharing it with a riding ally. If you use it while giving a ride to someone, you’ll both get Unstoppable for a short while. If you prefer to take the enemy by surprise, Seed Bomb is a great option, as it has a stronger debuff effect. It’ll also toss your ally at enemies, along with the Seed Bomb attack, stunning enemies hit directly by your launched ally. If you throw a teammate that thrives in close quarters combat like Snorlax or Scizor, your team will have a very powerful opening advantage in a team fight. Just make sure that your ally is in on the plan of attack as well, maybe make a pit stop in a nearby plot of Tall Grass before starting the fight.
Your Unite Move, Clashing Crowns, is what will really turn the tides of battle in your favor. Being able to occupy an enemy for a short amount of time is a powerful effect, as we’ve learned from Slowbro’s Slow Beam and Mimikyu’s Play With Me. While you’re guaranteed to have an enemy’s attention for 3 seconds, you can also take away a big chunk of their HP bar by mashing the attack button furiously. No matter how good the enemy mashes, they’re guaranteed to lose at least 20% of their HP if they lose the mashing contest, though you’re also guaranteed to lose 50% of your own HP if you pick a fight and end up losing. You can use an ally riding on your back as backup, but it’s advised not to do this during team fights as your allies will be down 3-to-4 for those 3 seconds, which is all the time it takes for something to go completely wrong. Clashing Crowns is at its strongest during other Objective fights like Regieleki or one of the Regi Trio in Bottom Lane, as it’s very rare to engage the entire enemy team in one lane over the other (of which there’s a lot to be said about that situation...).
But most importantly, Gogoat is also packing some serious muscle. You’re at your strongest leading an ally into battle and then buffing them up with Grass Pelt or Bulk Up, or hindering the enemy with Aerial Ace and or Seed Bomb, but those are your opening gambits. The rest of the fight sees a wild and furious goat kicking and screaming and biting at all perceived danger, and Gogoat can do some serious damage thanks to its above average Attack stat. It can either stun the enemy repeatedly with Aerial Ace, or run around healing itself with Horn Leech, and it can use these moves at any time to either beat the enemy into submission or to make a break for freedom with an ally in tow.
Goats are as dependable as they are useful, as humans have known for thousands of years. We took care of them, so make sure that this one takes care of you, friend or foe.
And this has been Gogoat for Pokemon Unite! Since I was very spot on with how Lapras was integrated into Pokemon Unite, I figured, ‘well, what if ANOTHER pokemon had a ride mechanic?’ and whaddya know, there are other ride pokemon like Lapras! Maybe I could’ve chosen Mantine or something for a Supporter ride pokemon, but I kinda like Gogoat as a concept. Y’know, gruff green grass goat with an ability that people think is useless, so I can use Pokemon Unite to transform it into something endearing and useful. That’s about half the reason I come up with these posts.
Anyway, that’ll be it from me. See ya next week!
fascination for anything vintage and classic: digital camera collection
Today, I felt the need to pour my thoughts onto these pages about my digital camera collection and how it all came to be. It's a peculiar passion that took root within me, driven by a desire for the nostalgia that vintage cameras provide. You see, there's something about those old cameras that stirs my soul, a feeling I can't quite put into words. But the road to finding my place in this digital camera world wasn't without its twists and turns.
I've always been drawn to the charm of vintage cameras—the way they feel in my hands, the satisfying clicks of their mechanisms, and the rush of nostalgia they bring. The only setback was the hassle and cost of scanning film. That's when I stumbled upon a delightful compromise: vintage digital cameras. These remarkable devices offer the crispness and sentimental essence of film, while also embracing the convenience of the digital age. It's a balance that resonates deeply with me, even if others can't quite understand why I choose vintage digital cameras over the sleek iPhones and fancy DSLRs of today.
In my collection, each camera holds a unique place, like a dear friend with its own quirks and qualities. Take the Olympus Camedia C-3030, for instance. It's a true trailblazer in the world of digital cameras, reminding me of the excitement and endless possibilities that unfolded when digital photography was still in its infancy. Holding it in my hands, I can almost feel the anticipation that must have surrounded those early digital camera enthusiasts.
I realize that not everyone understands my fascination with vintage digital cameras. After all, we live in a world where smartphones and fancy DSLRs dominate the market. But for me, it goes beyond technical specifications and trends. It's about the emotional connection, the way these cameras transport me to a different era, filling me with a sense of nostalgia and inspiration. I could talk about my cameras for hours and not get tired of it.
Through my collection, I'm reminded of the sheer joy that photography brings me, the unique perspective it offers. Each camera tells a story, capturing fragments of time that I can revisit whenever I desire. As I continue to explore the world through the lens of these vintage digital cameras, I'm filled with gratitude for the way they ignite my imagination and transport me to a different time and place.
Until next time.
