Hi! I’d like to request a John “Bucky” Egan fic where he tries several times to flirt with the reader, but the reader is super oblivious about it and just thinks he’s being nice. It becomes something everyone on base talks about and gets invested in. Maybe other people set up a scheme to get them together or make the reader realize how he feels. Idk, just something funny and cute like that ig 😁

Oblivious

“There’s my favorite nurse!”

You rolled your eyes at the phrase that announced John “Bucky” Egan’s every visit to sickbay.

“Hello, Major,” you said, turning to greet him with a mock-exasperated smile.

Bucky clutched a hand to his heart as if wounded, a hurt expression on his face. “How many times do I gotta tell you to call me Bucky, sweetheart?”

“At least a few more times, Major,” you reply, unable to hide a smile at the usual volley of friendly banter.

Major John Egan had been unusually friendly to you since the first moment he’d sauntered in to introduce himself to the medical staff as Air Exec. Your colleagues had blushed afterward and playfully insisted that he had paid you more attention than the others, but you just laughed and shook your head, insisting that he was just being nice.

This visit was simply another instance of Bucky being friendly to you; well, that and Harry Crosby’s airsickness had gotten the better of him again and he was checking up on the navigator.

You stepped aside as Bucky approached Harry’s cot, ready to update him on the goings-on since the last mission had returned.

He threw you a kind smile before perching on the stool next to Harry.

“How’s my girl treatin’ you, Crosby?”

Harry happily told him how the base had gotten a new shipment of airsickness pills and you had slipped him a spare box for his own personal use, and Bucky’s smile grew wider and wider.

You were glad to see how happy he was at the news that his friend was feeling better, and you quietly excused yourself to tend to the other patients.

Bucky sighed as you walked away.

“She still hasn’t picked up on it, huh?”

“No, Croz, she hasn’t.” sighed Bucky, “She thinks I’m just bein’… nice or friendly or something. Which I am!” He added hurriedly, “But I just…I like her so much. I wish she’d notice.”

“She will, buddy,” Harry replied, with a comforting pat on his friend’s hand, “She will.”

Bucky headed out after a few more minutes of conversation, giving you a wink and a smile as he walked past your station.

“Bucky visited again, huh?” Rebecca, one of your fellow nurses, sidled up next to you with a teasing grin.

“Yes, Major Egan came by to visit Lieutenant Crosby,” you replied, putting emphasis on their ranks.

“You’re sure that’s all he was here for? Somehow he never shows up here without an excuse to see you…”

“He’s just being nice, Becca,” you insisted, “You know how these soldier boys are.”

“But he’s always—”

“Becca,” you cut her off as gently as you can, “I really don’t wanna talk about this anymore.”

“Alright, alright,” she held her hands up in surrender, “Bucky is an off-limits topic, gotcha.”

The conversation turned to the current hot gossip, and you idly chimed in when it seemed appropriate, losing yourself in your routine tasks.

Rebecca broke off to check on Harry again, narrowing her eyes as she noticed Harry watching you.

“Something Nurse L/N can help you with, Crosby?”

He jumped, gaze darting to Rebecca as she approached.

“No ma’am, I just…”

He scrambled to think of some excuse, but all he could come up with was: “I’m trying to think of some way to get Y/N to notice Bucky!”

Rebecca blinked in surprise, then plopped down onto the stool next to his bed, leaning in conspiratorially.

“Oh thank goodness it’s not just me! He’s been at it for months but the poor girl’s just so oblivious…”

“I keep telling him to just talk to her like a normal person, but he insists on dancing around it!” Harry instantly agreed, glad to have someone besides Jean to talk to about this. “He’s been so distracted lately. If he doesn’t do something soon, I’m worried it might start to affect his flying.”

Rebecca pressed her lips into a thin line, twisting a strand of hair worriedly.

After a few moments of quiet, she spoke up again, green eyes sparkling with mischief.

“I’ve got an idea.”

“Hey Bucky,” Harry said at breakfast the next morning, “I’m gonna pop down to the infirmary to visit Winks, wanna come with?”

Bucky quickly agreed— he’d been meaning to check on Winks yesterday as well as Croz, but got caught up in… well, you.

As they entered, Bucky made a beeline for Winks while Harry caught Rebecca’s eye and gave a subtle nod, which she returned, signaling her part of the plan was complete.

She had removed the step stool you always used from one of the supply closets, now hidden under one of the cots nearby. When you weren’t able to reach something on one of the higher shelves, well…

Good thing Bucky was so tall.

“Y/N, would you mind grabbing some more bandages for me? My station’s running low.”

“Sure thing, Becca!” You called, stepping away from your current station to check the supply closet.

“Becca…” your confused voice called from the closet, “Do you know where the stepstool went?”

“It’s not there?” She called back, sounding equally confused. “Let’s see, um…”

She scanned the room, putting on a good show of looking for someone who could help.

“Oh, Bucky! Would you mind helping Nurse L/N grab something from the supply closet for me?”

“No problem, Becca,” came his reply, accompanied with his trademark winning smile as he nodded to Winks and made his way over to the supply closet.

It was much smaller than he’d anticipated, and barely half a foot was all that separated you as he asked, “Alright, what do ya need, sweethea—”

The pet name was cut off by the sound of the supply closet door closing.

And locking.

You lunged for the handle as Bucky reached up to turn on the single lightbulb, both of you calling out in confusion.

“Becca! What?”

“C’mon, guys, this isn’t funny!”

Harry’s voice came through the door, clear and determined.

“Just tell her how you feel, Bucky! Your tactic clearly isn’t working!”

“I— what?” You turned to Bucky, hoping he knew what in the world they were talking about.

Bucky hesitated, but seeing as it seemed he had no choice…

“Well this isn’t… exactly how I wanted to do it, but…” He took a deep breath, twisting his fingers together in an uncharacteristic display of anxiety, “I really like you, doll. I’ve liked you since I first laid eyes on you. And I’ve tried every way I know how to tell you, but nothin’ worked, so…” He gestured around at the supply closet, “I guess it came to this? Which wasn’t my idea, by the way. Just for the record. I would never…”

His voice faltered, and you realized just how close you were to him. You didn’t remember moving forward. You were just suddenly there, so close the two of you were almost breathing each other’s air.

“You… you like me?”

Bucky couldn’t help but laugh at that.

“Doll, you think I call every pretty girl workin’ here my favorite nurse?”

You flushed at the compliment.

“I thought you were just being nice, I didn’t…”

“I mean, I was bein’ nice,” He said with a shrug, grinning, “Just not quite in the way you were thinking.”

Bucky’s eyes flicked down to your mouth, and being this close to you, he couldn’t hide the bob of his throat as he swallowed nervously.

“I’d, uh. I’d really like to kiss you right now, if that’s alright with you, sweetheart.”

You nodded slowly, “I think I’d really like that, Major Egan.”

“It’s Bucky, sweetheart,” he murmured softly as he leaned in, capturing your lips.

You may or may not have spent more than a few lonely nights in your bunk imagining what it would be like to kiss Major John Egan.

Your imaginings were nothing compared to reality.

This was magic unlike anything you could have dreamed.

Your arms wound around his neck as his wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush against him. You toyed with the dark curls at the nape of his neck as he slanted his mouth against yours, deepening the kiss. Needing to be closer, you tried to step towards him, but merely succeeded in pressing him back against the shelves.

Ordinarily you would apologize, but something like a thrill ran up your spine when you felt him grin into the kiss as his back hit the shelves, knocking rolls of bandages and boxes of gauze onto the floor.

His right hand moved to cup your cheek, keeping your lips connected as his other hand splayed across your back, pulling you impossibly closer as you arched into him.

You could still feel him grinning as he murmured against your lips, “Knew you were feisty under that good girl act.”

“Bucky,” you whined softly as he pulled away from you, chest heaving.

“Oh, now she uses my name,” he teased breathlessly, bumping his nose playfully against yours.

The two of you flinched as sunlight spilled into the dim closet, a harsh change from the dingy yellow lightbulb you had become accustomed to.

Harry and Rebecca stood in the doorway, wearing twin smug grins.

“Looks like our work here is done,” Becca said, shooting you a wink as she bid farewell to Harry with a two-fingered salute, “Pleasure working with you, Lieutenant Crosby.”

“Same to you, Nurse Carter,” Harry replied, and he turned back to the two of you, a genuine smile on his face.

“About time, Bucky.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Bucky waved off his friend’s I told you so, “You gonna congratulate me or what?”

“Congratulations,” came Harry’s mock-put-out reply, accompanied by a genuinely congratulatory clap on his arm. “You got a good one. And it only took months of unsuccessful flirting—”

“Hey, I got her in the end, didn’t I?” He squeezed you closer, grinning down at you.

Your lipstick was all over his mouth, and you’re sure the Victory Red on your own lips was in no better shape.

You couldn’t bring yourself to care, however, as he pulled you in for a tender kiss.

Which you broke for a moment to point out, “He isn’t wrong, you know, it was months of unsuccessful—”

Your teasing was promptly cut off with a “shush” mumbled against your lips as Bucky silenced you with a kiss.

Day 21 - Discuss Gwen. Opinions? Favorite moment? Least favorite moment? Any unpopular opinions? Any fun headcanons?

gwen!!! i love gwen. i think she’s fascinating. she’s normal - she’s fucked up. she’s empathetic - she detaches from the people closest to her. she loves rhys - she loves jack. she knew torchwood was toxic - she joined anyway. she’s just a really fleshed out, grounded character, akin to some of the doctor who companions imo, but because it’s torchwood she gets to be a little more of a straight up asshole - i love it. i think she’s a brilliant character. and she’s also adorable and funny and badass and gorgeous and sweet and lovely and a little bit deranged. i adore her. 

my fav gwen moment would have to be when she retconned rhys in combat 😭 HEAR ME OUT. that’s the moment i was like ‘oh holy shit she’s fucked up’ and that made me feel compelled by her... she’s since become my second fav character and i think if that scene didn’t exist she wouldn’t have reached that point for me. esp because it established her as a certain type of fucked up, you know? her cheating on rhys wasn’t nice, but it was interesting. i think her struggles with emotional faithfulness and how easily she was pushed into sexual infidelity from stress and isolation make her interesting. her and owen are psychological marvels to me, in the best way fshdfkjds they’re both really fascinating characters with really interesting and, bafflingly, well-done trauma responses. listen, i like rhys a lot, and i pity him, but my main issue with that plot is less that she did it in the first place and more that that plotline was never given closure. i don't rlly have much interest in condemning cheating as it exists in fiction, it's just a plot device to me so it doesn't register as particularly immoral when done by characters (as in, it doesnt make ME hate them; i know some people think it's a Grave Sin) - but i do think rhys did deserve better than never being offered transparency in that regard. but i don’t blame gwen herself for that, so much as i blame the writers.

and then aside from that, i have several fav gwen-being-cute moments, because she’s like a fluffy little creature to me fhsdkj there’s something about eve’s tooth gap i think and the way they do her hair, and those big ol’ eyes…. i want to keep her in my pocket. i love the handful of times her and owen goof off, i love her crying pizza scene, i love the scenes where she’s being playful with rhys, i love her reactions when she's talking to emma about sex in out of time (eve’s comedic acting is so funny too btw like some of the faces gwen makes at shit kills me. shes just so tangible she looks and feels like a real person you’d be friends w like thts gwen my friend gwen)... i love the way she bonds with female characters, idk why that was something that really stood out to me like she way she bonds with other women, i love it. with jonah’s mom and with beth... in an era where women were pitted against each other a lot (we see it happen w her n tosh in, like, countrycide a little), it's nice they subverted that. i love when women take care of each other. nice little thing to include in tw of all shows.

my least favorite gwen moment… i can’t really think of one of the top of my head? OH i know. the way she treats andy in adrift bothered me a bit. i think the concept of ‘torchwood’s changed you, you’re crueler now’ is brilliant, but it’s a little more personal between them, and she's unnecessarily a bit condescending w him, so it rubbed me a little wrong. but torchwood in s1 were meant to be cocky so ig maybe that could've rubbed off on her too... but the show doesn't suggest that so eh.

i don’t think i have any unpopular opinions, other than i think she’s a great character + she’s very likeable and compelling, and i think gwen bashers are misogynistic morons ❤️ oh also! i think she’s just as bisexual as the other three, she’s just not as tapped into her attraction to women. gwen to me is a “when i was a kid i used to stare at my best friend and think about how pretty she was… but that’s normal right i mean thats just loving your friend right. feeling warm when you brush her hair at a slumber party is normal right” type of wlw fsdkjfd. i think she emotionally latches onto women (like i said we see this happen in the show) but she’s just gone through life assuming she’s straight so she never clocked herself as having the capacity for that emotional attachment to be something romantic instead. not unlike pre-gbg tosh.

fun headcanons… her and owen are besties. this is canon as far as im concerned but i’d like it to be even More. they just sort of have a surprisingly easy rapport, like they enjoy each other's company (somewhat surprisingly, given their contrasting personalities) and are weirdly in sync esp in s2, but they also poke and prod at each other. they have a shiv & roman from succession relationship to me - “hey slut” “hey f-g” HFSDKJFHDKJ do you see. do u see my vision. (not the sibling shit obviously just That Vibe.) i love writing them bantering back n forth, it's tons of fun. also lowkey projecting shit from the actors onto them - eve used to just straight up wrestle burn and that feels like a gwen owen activity i think she should pick him up and slam dunk him into the ground. theyre boygirlbesties to me i think they should go shopping together and try shit on and insult each other. i think they should go to more movies n sit in the back n whisper back n forth. i also think gwen and tosh should be closer as well im sending them on a spa trip. girl’s night! oh speaking of girl’s night ive also had this fic in development for a while about owen playing with gender (i think he needs that i think it’d heal him) + it has two separate scenes where gwen puts makeup on him cuz i think they should recreate that lesbian makeup image. thats their relationship to me. i also think she should peg him platonically. do u kinda see the vibe im going for here. speaking of pegging… shit that needs to be introduced into her relationship w rhys. female characters who i’d fix by buying them a strap-on. also she needs to have gay sex it’s crucial. ok ill shut up now. idk if i have any other non-cursed hcs HKSDF sorry im evil xD ill show myself out. gwen cooper they could never make me hate you i love you mwah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before S4, Brett Gelman and David Harbour dropped a few cool hints.

People noticed that David changed his pfp several times, using pics of twins. Could be a hint at the Henry/Edward mystery or different timelines. But usually, actors promote their characters’ storylines, so maybe this is also about Hopper. 

He posted on IG about sunflowers, sharks/ancient predators, rainbows and stuffed lion toys, and Voodoo. This could definitely be about Vecna’s curse and Hopper, who’s been saying since S1 that he feels like he’s cursed. He and Victor Creel are the only characters in the show that specifically say that they feel cursed. I wrote about this parallel here

It’s ironic, since Hopper loves Don’t mess with Jim. Well, I guess that someone messed with him, big time. Sorry, Jim.

Interestingly, David posted about the Milgram experiment, a medical treatment involving electroshock therapy. And also mentioned the number 450.

But there’s more. Fans noticed that he changed his profile picture on IG to different numbers. Murray’s phone number from S3

And Brett Gelman also posted it on his IG. A clear hint that the fans should call the number. 

They talk with the writers, they know what’s happening. It’s a big puzzle, and they want us to solve it. It’s like the Surfer Boy Pizza number. It only seems that the writers forgot about Will’s birthday, but if you called the number before Vol II, it played the Happy Birthday song (here the post) 

So. What happened when people called Murray’s number before S4? It rang a few times, before reaching Murray’s answering machine. And apparently, this is what he said:

“Hi. You have reached the residence of Murray Bauman. Mom, if this is you, please hang up and call me between the hours of five and six p.m as previously discussed. Ok?”

(Mom and 5+6. Eleven)

Also:

“And if this is Joyce, Joyce thank you for calling. I’ve been trying to reach you. I have an update. It’s about - well, it’s probably best if we speak in person. It’s not good or bad, but it’s something.”

And:

“And if this is anyone but my mother or Joyce, well, you think you’re real clever getting my number, don’t you? Well, here’s some breaking news for you. You’re not clever. You’re not special. You are simply one of the many, many nimwits to call here, and the closest you’ll ever get to me is this pre-recorded message. So, at the beep, do me a favor. Hang up and never call here again. Mom and eleven. Then Joyce. Then mother AND Joyce. And a mention of one and parasite. Vecna and the Mind Flayer? Amazing. It makes sense that David and Brett posted about their storyline in S4 and mentioned Joyce. But it’s the mention of Murray’s mother (right before eleven and Joyce) that is interesting to me.

Okay, so I am bored and gonna write a little bit of a post to explain why this ship war between byler and Matcha latte shouldn’t exist from a queer perspective. And this isn’t going to be a post just saying “I am write and you are wrong” this is an explanation of how fucked it would be for the queer community if Stranger Things was queer baiting. Starting off with explaining queer baiting because straight people really think that queer baiting doesn’t exist unless they personally recognize a character as queer. Which would never happen because straight people still be out here pretending Robin could realistically get with Steve. Queer baiting is when a piece of media alludes to the idea of queer characters or plot lines without actually planning on having or using said queer identities. Basically, a show using queer identities as a form of a plot dressing. Now a days it is not as common to see queer identities alluded to and never fulfilled as in the case of BBC’s Sherlock or other shows. (In which case many jokes about the characters being gay was used as a way to basically poke fun at the queer communities that formed around these shows). But now, queer baiting is more shows promising and fulfilling queer characters only to treat them less then straight characters or just use their queerness as a way to dress up their show. Think Voltron promising a gay character only for people to find out that it was for half a second and then never talked about again. In this case Stranger Things would be more like the latter. I would say that Robin falls into a line of queer baiting but not? Kind of on the edge. Her character is a side character in a way (becoming more main character in S4) and she comes in later so a pre set up romance would not be as strong as any of the original characters plot lines. But her romantic subplot is pushed more to the back ground then an unnecessary love triangle and is just left with her being heartbroken and then maybe has a possibility with her? Again though, Robin didn’t get a love interest in the main cast which none of the straight characters got a love interest out side of the main cast (besides Dustin IG. But doesn’t isn’t really a minority so it doesn’t even it out). But this isn’t about Robin and my opinions of her may change in S5. This is about Byler. Now that we kind of understand queer baiting, let me explain why Byler not be cannon would fall under queerbaiting. We all know Will Byers is cannon gay. He kisses boys okay bro. No one needs to argue anymore because they let Noah Schnapp out of the basement to confirm it since some people don’t know how to watch a goddamn show. If Will Byers does not end up with Mike Wheeler (or any of the main cast but all other party members are well paired off so good luck with that) who he has a romantically coded relationship with or at least a vv obvious crush on, then that means this show has introduced to queer characters just to crush their hopes and dreams. And then on top of that, there is no way they are adding in new characters so that means Will’s whole romantic subplot will just be for this poor gay boy to go around being sad and lonely forever while watching all of his heterosexual friends get to be with their partners. AND even if they did add in another character, the romantic subplot will still not be satisfying as yet again queer characters are being written off as not deserving the light of day for a proper romance. They don’t get the main character. They don’t win. They didn’t have to make Will gay. If they made Will gay just to make queer people watch the show but never plan on fulfilling any of Will’s plotlines and leaving him to be reduced to the sad lonely gay, then that is queer baiting. That is shitty.  I get why people love microwave but it would be cruel for them to be endgame. I could support wanting it to be endgame more if the writers hadn’t already made Will gay. i think my opinion is probably tempered by how i see gwen? which is someone who will take charge & lead but often won’t make the most sensible decisions because she’s too swayed by her emotions (which isn’t necessarily bad, but i think torchwood leadership needs to be more cynical than emotional)

i know these are s2, but i’m thinking of the things that have confused me in her actions (very simplified) - in sleeper, she refuses to promise beth that they will not unfreeze her if they can’t fix her, something beth is clearly terrified about happening (given she kills herself at the end); and in meat she potentially jeopardises people because of her worry for rhys. i also would say the fairies thing too but the majority if not all of the team were upset by that (which i also don’t really understand, perhaps its my autism lol) so that one is more useless as a point here.

there absolutely are moments she excels, but i think chronologically between s1 & 2 she isn’t quite there yet. but yeah, again, odds are none of the others particularly cared to lead and so she was the best option (in that she perhaps did want to lead) but it always struck me as a little odd the newest torchwood agent became the highest ranking one

i think the fairies thing ("how can you give the child to them?!" uhh the child wants to go?? and also otherwise there would be untold revenge??) stumped a lot of people, you're definitely not alone there - i think the writers aimed for a more emotional response from viewers but that didn't quite happen in my impression :''D

and that's actually a good example for a lot of things, like Gwen the main character = the character most of the audience is supposed to relate to. but many (most?) don't.

Gwen is RTD's baby, she's the main character, of course she's in charge. she took over from Suzie who was Jack's Second, and therefore gets to be Second pretty quickly as well. apparently. also main characters have to be special and/or leader characters, that's just how it be. (something something it took Star Trek over 50 years to have a show with a main character who's not captain. only to make her captain later.)

but.... let's take a stop here maybe, because even writing this, i can feel myself slipping back into the negativity i've held for a long time regarding Gwen's... special position in Torchwood, both canon and in the bts and meta sense. and i unironically think leaving that behind was the hardest but also the best thing i've ever done in this fandom. because yeah there's gripes to be had. but i really don't want to be bitter, you feel?? i want to think about and enjoy an interpretation of Gwen (and everyone else, for that matter) that makes me happy and not angry or upset. partially born from fanon, partially born from a mix-up of all the different flavors of canon we have received over the years.

its a day for rambles on tumbler i think so here goes.

Religious and philosophical ramblings under the cut, mostly based on what I learned in fucking High School:

The Theodicy Question. Buckle in

Let me introduce you to the concept of “theodicy”, a concept that was first introduced to me by my religious studies teacher when I was about 17. In German, I learned about it as “Die Theodizee-Frage”, and it formulates a question:

If God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-merciful, why does suffering exist in the world?

Surely if you have a God who is as powerful as the texts say, surely if said God loves you, then there shouldn’t be any suffering.

I don’t remember names or dates very well but I do remember concepts and ideas, and here’s a couple explanations that Christian (!!) philosophers and theologians came up with hundreds of years ago.

1. The premise is a fallacy. Clearly, if your God is (all 3 of) all powerful, all knowing and all merciful, then suffering would not exist. Clearly, God simply cannot be all 3. He could be 2 out of 3 though: either he doesn’t know, or he is powerless to stop suffering, or he simply doesn’t want to. It helps your faith to believe that God is merciful and would stop suffering if he could; and we want God to be listening to our prayers and shit so we want him to be all knowing too. So maybe, God simply isnt as powerful as we think.

2. The premise is correct, but the conclusion is wrong. God knows of our suffering, He could stop it if he wanted, but he doesn’t think it would be merciful to. Perhaps God knows something you don’t? Perhaps suffering is necessary for a complete human experience. You can’t have light without darkness etc

But just in case you don’t care about random guys who wrote about the ins and outs of religions hundreds of years ago,

Here’s a couple of my own answers to this question (as a scientist whos agnostic, somewhat spiritual and culturally christian):

1. God is a writer and we are his project. You need suffering to drive the plot, to get character development, you even need death so surviving characters can deal with it in some way that makes sense to them. Suffering as a narrative tool, more than anything. You need suffering to make the good ending meaningful and worthwhile.

2. God doesn’t have power to affect our petty human issues. God cannot decide if someone will murder or rape you; God cannot stop greedy people from hoarding resources. God cannot stop wars because wars are a human construct. Most suffering is created by humans. God cannot get rid of human suffering because he was no power over human affairs. The fact that humans have free will (religiously and theologically important and significant) will inevitably lead to suffering, because most humans suffer from the actions of other humans.

The point of this is mostly that if you have a thought and it’s distressing to you and causing you to break with the whole concept of God, or Religion, or Spirituality entirely, perhaps it would be good to do some research just in case someone else has had that thought before and put some work into deconstructing it and finding explanations that aren’t just “God is evil, we gotta kill God and also all religious people are stupid and deluded” or “God definitelty does not exist and the fact that suffering exists proves that God does not”

Learn some things (Like ig if youre american thats hard cus they??? seem hell bent on not teaching you things in that “education system” of yours) and form a more nuanced opinion please

I think the person saying the only thing keeping Sam Levinsons career afloat is nepotism and that he’s a problem for HBO is so interesting. I don’t think HBO would have given him another show if he was that big of a problem. I don’t think Zendaya or Sydney would be publicly praising him if he were a problem. Judd Apatow (Maude’s dad) recently did an interview praising the show AND Sam saying he doesn’t understand how he does it all. I don’t know that a dad would be praising his daughters boss publicly if he was such a problem (also let’s not forget that Euphoria was not Maudes first time working with Sam).

Let’s also talk about how Sam’s wife Ashley is his producing partner. They recently produced X, M&M, she produces Euphoria too, she produced Pieces of a Woman with Vanessa Kirby, which scored Kirby a Oscar nomination. She won a producing award with Z, was part of THR’s producing round table. I can’t imagine she would be on set and allow her husband and producing partner to have bad behavior. I think a lot of the discourse about Sam tbh is false narratives created by viewers/ fans who, rightfully so, weren’t thrilled about Euphoria S2. Sydney Sweeney said Sam was the best director she’s worked with and that his set is the safest she’s felt doing topless/ intimate scenes and her words were spun like she had to put Sam in his place for wanting her to be nude. Even Barbie had nice words for him and his work at the FYC event. Proving that it was probably just a creative disagreement, which is v common in Hollywood. Look at what’s happening with Fast & Furious….

I don’t think people have to like him/his work. I just think it’s bizarre that people have painted this man as a villain or a problem for HBO when that just doesn’t seem to be the case. I also don’t think HBO would GRANT the hiatus on The Idol for them to rework the end and then allow Sam to direct if he was such a big problem.

Well, I’m no Sam Levinson stan. True, I don’t think he’s a problem for HBO because, like I said, he got them ratings and buzz and may do so again in another show. As for him reworking The Idol—I don’t think we have many facts about what’s going on there, and it could be run-of-the-mill. I think Sam’s privilege combined with his past Euphoria success (which itself can never be extricated from his privilege) probably does get him a bit of extra leverage. Still, I wouldn’t call him a “villain” as I think he’s probably a complicated person like anyone with some good qualities.

I do think he showed himself in S2 to be a bad writer and sort of a pretentious, mastubatory director. I do think there’s enough evidence to suggest he may be at times unprofessional and disrespectful, even creepy, of his cast & crew’s bodies and time, probably with some notable exceptions like Zendaya (although I’m thinking of her birthday IG stories when she was waiting to take off for Venice, and I’m…wondering to what extent she’s 100% an exception).

I absolutely think Sydney and Barbie would lie through their teeth to publically praise Sam and their HBO experience, especially when trying to walk back…problematic overshares/leaks. They are not very established in their careers, and even rumors that they’re difficult to work with would end those careers immediately. I’m pretty nervous for Barbie, actually.

As for Judd Apatow—I think he’s a proud dad as he should be. I’ve enjoyed lots of his work, but he’s shown himself to be kind of up his own ass this year, so maybe not the most reliable narrator. Sam’s wife co-producing does not persuade me one way or another since I don’t know anything about her. (I don’t think Sam is being accused of assault or sexual harassment, exactly, is he?)

I think Zendaya has affection for Sam and she’s obviously grateful for her entire Rue experience for the reasons I mentioned. I didn’t see a full-throated defense of Sam in response to the many 2022 criticisms, however, but maybe I missed it. What I did hear between the lines, so to speak, was Zendaya sort of shifting to thinking of herself as more of Sam’s equal this time around, getting him to rewrite Rue’s story and other plot elements. Good for her.

I am not recommending it, strictly speaking, but if you do, watch like… the first 5 seasons, and if you really need more, up to the end of season 7.

As for the rest, it’s a very hit-or-miss cashcow built on canon inconsistencies because of fan service and an extreme bias in Dean’s favor. And, I cannot stress this enough, the majority of the late seasons writers didn’t even watch the entire show. There’s actually a line in early season 13 where Sam says that Dean chose to “help” him when he was “evil” rather than leave him for dead. This is literally the exact opposite of what happened, but it got twisted into Dean saving him because of confirmation bias. And if you saw the infamous scene from 15x18, it’s pretty clear that Dean does not really reflect the things that Cas says. But, again, fan service.

By extension, if you do watch, stay far away from the fandom.

Going to talk about the bigotry of the show below the cut here (tw for talk of racism, misogyny, homophobia, and abuse apologia).

The show is a MotW format, but they appropriate a lot from indigenous cultures when they should and could just take from general folklore (see the title of 1x02 for example… and the awfulness of 1x08). It also features a lot of copaganda. I’ve noticed a pattern where half the time, antagonist cops are black men while protagonist cops are white women, which goes hand in hand with some of their villain choices…

On top of that, Dean has an Asian fetish (this is a consistent joke of the writers spanning as far as season 3 to season 14, from what I’ve seen) and subscribes to a magazine called “Busty Asian Beauties.” There is an episode in season 13 where he raises a gun to a young woc in an episode that specifically highlights how she is affected by racism, and then she gets fridged for her white woman love interest the next episode…

Sam is the more progressive one (he’s meant to be the liberal to Dean’s conservative) but in earlier seasons at least he’s a very lukewarm liberal. He gets some explicit character development on the bad points here (such as how he views prison) but the show never really moves on from the copaganda in general. If anything, it actually leans into it more with time. One of the protagonist cops absolutely abuses her power over a man in her custody and is still justified by the narrative even though the guy ends up proven innocent. All in the name of being a girlboss ig?

They tried for a Feminist spin-off (about two cops who adopt some wayward girls), but the series is actually deeply misogynistic. This is obvious from the get-go. Dean’s introduction to the show as an adult is him making Sam’s girlfriend uncomfortable because she’s underdressed, for example. He actually only gets worse, as he goes on to show a consistent interest in minors, have him be a peeping tom (even as late as season 11), and call every woman antagonist gendered slurs.

It’s been said on repeat “Hey, maybe don’t headcanon a sexual predator as queer…” and responses to that have varied from “No, he’s not a sexual predator” to “He is a sexual predator but queer men need to be represented as predators!” He’s painfully heterosexual though and any jokes people take out of context to suggest otherwise are just playing on the fact that he’s hetero so him having “feminine interests” (such as soap operas) would be “funny.” All of this is especially ironic when you consider that Sam was more or less confirmed MLM in s4 (barely past the censors) but is considered “the straight one” by fans.

Dean is predictably homophobic as well (though it doesn’t show up in explicit terms as often as his misogyny+racism) but fans either don’t acknowledge this or call it overcompensation.

And if I went into the topic of Dean’s abuse, we’d be here all day, but it’s an endless stream of abuse apologia from start to finish, from how John abuses his children to how Dean abuses Sam and Cas, even to people torturing Sam.

So, yeah, watch to your own detriment. The characters obviously inspire a lot from people, but the entire series is a wreck.

heyy before i proceed to my ask, i just wanted (needed!) u to know that your writing is absolutely exceptional, my god. the inability to write anything dull, u just seem to make everything so so interesting, every fic is so well-crafted down to the littlest details. we can tell ure very. meticulous, it shows in your works !! especially with writing mark.. jesus chrys, the way u write mark lee is just so him. u do him justice every damn time. i feel like you’ve heard this more than once already but it’s true! like in the middle of reading a mark fic written by u, i get the feeling like u personally know him😭 i mean yea it’s still fiction but it just gets to me,, i read a line or a dialogue, pause and my brain goes ‘oh that’s him alr’. that beauty of a human being deserves to be written like how u write him. u just. get it. i have no better words to describe it, honestly but your writing moves me, it touches my heart n every other part of me in more ways than one, idk it’s JUST TEW GOOD i can’t recall how many times i’ve been gobsmacked reading a fic by user ncteez. there’s no way i’m reading all this for free, like I should be paying for this sht bc this is what real writers are #to me. and ik manyy other ppl thinks the same abt u. i dont usually go here but ure the first ever fanfic writer i ever followed and one of the few i rly admire. your way with words, your humor, even your openness and approach to certain tropes and dynamics idk i just think ure someone who’s full of wisdom ig. and i wish u all the best in life, dearly.

that said, i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of re-reading delphinium. i will say, personally, i see mark as a either a dom (granted bc he’s a leo), a switch or (slightly) a sub just not a hardcore sub (that’s before reading your fics and a few from others then realizing i actually enjoy this mark—a lot) innocent!mark and a religious one at that. i indulge in that a little too much, i fear. despite the plot, i genuinely think this is how mark’s gonna be if he ever falls n feels for someone and gets in a relationship. cliche but every time i go back to read it, it rly feels like reading it for the first time (well the second ig bc the first time felt like i’ve been opened, torn apart and thrown up n down n across the room throughout both parts) but my point is! the feels just never go away. it’s truly one of the best fics i’ve ever read in my whole entire 19 yrs of living and one of the markiest fics ever made, it’s all too perfect. which leads me to my very first ask; i was re-reading delphinium pt. 2 sometime a month ago i think and when it got to the part where he’s fingering for the very first time in his life, and finds himself a natural, quick learner then y/n goes it’s dangerous that she gets to call him her boyfriend, i thought oh it’s going to be rough if he ever eats her out.. i’ve been dying to know how mark gets to learn from y/n and how he gets to have enough experience on his way to become the sex god he is. how their relationship blossoms from then on. it’s all in my head but i’m sure however ure gonna write it, it’s going to be the perfect mix of fluff and spicy (and pain mayb). ik you’re not interested in writing for nct anymore and are focusing on svteez but if you ever consider on writing maybe even little drabbles on it, i’d be thee most delighted human being hh

Hii so sorry for bothering you but, I love writing I’ve been doing it for a long time. I’d like to post on tumblr but I’m kinda new to it and don’t really know how to use it (gifs, text colors,…) so if it’s okay for you could you maybe teach me how to use it or give me some tips?

ok hmm i’m terms of gifs, there’s a button that says “GIF” whenever you’re making a post, so if you select it, it’ll give you a large selection of gifs you can add to your posts, and you can add up to 10 per post. you can also search for particular gifs you’re looking for, and if they exist, they’ll show up. however, it’s not super common anymore, at least not in engeneblr (the enhypen side of tumblr), to use gifs on posts anymore, unless they’re gif posts of gifs ppl create, which is rlly common and so much credit to them. they’re just as hardworking as us writers! also, fyi, in the GIF function, all those selections of gifs are previously made gifs by ppl on tumblr. meaning, you can actually make your own gifs if you wanted to. however, i’ve never done that before, so i can’t tell you how to do that, sorry sjsjsj ,, also, what i’ve noticed, generally, is that for fics, posts with gifs don’t tend to be as popular as ones with a banner or moodboard, if that’s what you’re using it for. so ig that can lead me to my next point…

here on tumblr, and you can see this with any of my works which you can find in my masterlist (which is basically a library writers create to keep all their works in one place) and you can find my masterlist on my pinned post at the top of my blog. and so yeah, you can look at some of my works for reference as to what a moodboard/banner looks like. and i made a survey a while ago for writers to get insight on what readers prefer (which if you want, you can later check it out, also linked on my pinned post) and readers said what often draws them to fics are the moodboard/banners at the top of the fic post.

in terms of text colours, in that same survey, many readers pointed out that the use of many text colours and fonts is often a turn off. obviously this doesn’t apply to every reader; there are many works on this site that uses lots of text colours and fonts and receive much success, but yeah this just applies to some readers. in terms of how many readers, i don’t exactly know. but ik many have said they do not prefer reading a fic with many text colours. some have also said they don’t like reading fics with the small text (the way you get that is by selecting the text you want to make small and then press the function that basically looks like this “<s>”), but again, there are many fics that have small text that receive lots and lots of recognition, but some readers have expressed that it’s v hard for them to read when done so, however, some find it more aesthetic to have the small text. personally, i don’t use the small text anymore for the actual story part of my works.

but yeah just experimenting and getting experience hands on and learning from what works and what doesn’t (whether that be from your own works or other writers’ works) is v helpful, and that was the way i learned as well. i rlly hope this helps you get started tho :) also, i obviously don’t know how experienced you are with tumblr, so i hope some of this stuff wasn’t just going over stuff you already know, and i hope this was helpful :) there was A LOT that i didn’t cover, so pls lmk what other things you would like help with, if any, like the basics of how to use tumblr, i’m not sure if that would be helpful for you? but i could find you a post on the basic algorithms and stuff if that would help. and yeah if you want me to get into anything else, pls don’t hesitate to lmk. i’m happy to help!

Also,,,, Joe just lost another child (luckily not to death this time!) and he couldn’t do anything about it, and what if he feels guilty by inadvertently pushing her to leave even more by killing Vines. And If anyone ever confirms he was trying to say “I love you” or “I’ll miss you” to her or smth at the end of his “Daughter, I-” before getting cut off by Bern saying “I know” I will actually be in that persons walls. When is it his turn to be happy! They didn’t even show a proper goodbye btwn them either and you KNOW they had one bc he would have had to have given her the feather at some point (SOBs) like if you’re gonna make a sad ending make it as heart wrenching as possible at least give us all the sad and crying and hugs gOD😭😭.

And not to mention, her whole talk with Joe about how she was in denial about how the world works didn’t convince me she needs to leave?? If anything the opposite?? maybe there is a nuanced way to show her on the job doing good on border patrol and being treated well but idk🫥. Like you said, I feel it would come across as super booklicker-y. And yeah she works BP in the books but does she really have to in the show? (I’m coping here) Maybe they could do a commentary on the border and how her working as a native woman there would have been. And then bring her back somehow? IMO this whole will she won’t she thing really feels like the writers were trying to have this big overarching decision with a super emotional ending (since Joe’s arc ended pretty suddenly with Blondie dying and him making Vines march into the desert on a whim), and while it was emotional it just didn’t make sense. Like it didn’t make sense before but it’s worse now😭. And obviously they want to move Bern’s character towards the books ig, but why? Why now after 2 seasons. Especially when Joe and Jim aren’t going anywhere and have their own books to go off of too. Like does she get some side border patrol plot every season now? Do they make the most unlikely circumstances where she can go help Jim and Joe? Do they try and adapt multiple books simultaneously despite them most likely not having much interconnectedness? I don’t know. They had such a good thing going with incorporating her character into the Tony Hillerman books as a TRIBAL police officer. And it’s like they wanted her to have this choice to make that’s really influenced by her surroundings and experiences, but in the show you don’t get any of that. Everything she goes through feels so contradictory to her decision. She’s finally back on good grounds with Jim, ok time to leave. Joe is off the walls but also being more of a Dad to her than ever, oh he’ll be fine he can handle it (can he tho). I promised Dean I’d look after his family? And I was an inspiration to him helping people on the rez? Nvm!!

That’s a *very* overdramatic and overgeneralized explanation of it but you get it I hope. Even her comment about not being able to do anything about Vines makes zero sense to me because does she think border patrol would let her fucking execute him for what he did??? Or that border patrol would lock him in a pit with no communication so he can’t get off on bail😭??. Originally watching I legitimately thought that this was the shows way of completely removing Bernadette from the story bc Jessica was done with the role, but that’s confirmed by the director to be not true. (silver lining yay!)

I have faith in the writers to do a good job with Bernadette’s character but I’m selfish and just want my silly tribal police trio back together asap!! They did not have the best little I-would-kill-for-you/ hyper-competent-coworkers/ found-family dynamic the three whole seconds they were all on screen together for them to kick Bern out!! Anyway, bring on season 3 AMC renew it already I am outside your office with a pitchfork!

Okay but the thing about trending is he's not really trending. He's trending "for you". It shows up for you and anyone else in the fandom. I'm sure Chace trends in his own fandom as well. If you go to the real trends, the US trends, he's never on there. Also, yeah there are fans who come back when he's working and promoting but there are a lot of people who genuinely lost interest. Especially since 2020. People dropped like flies at the time and they never came back. A lot of writers and creators specifically said they lost interest in him. On Tumblr, Ao3, and Instagram. It's not the same as it was. It may not be 70% but it is a huge chunk. And I'm not just talking about followers on insta.

That anon said 70% as a guess, and it’s a scary number. I don’t know if it’s that high but I think it’s pretty damn close. And I agree that big factors were his disconnect from IG, and the disinterest once the the Falcon and winter soldier hype went away and even more with the strike. It’s been going down non stop. Oh, yeah, I read that somewhere on here and it made sense to me based on their last interactions and some things the post referenced in terms of how Nick navigated the Fine Line release and talk about Harry in general when he was still on Radio 1. Obviously they might still be super close and just not public at all about it. I would find that a little strange as Nick used to casually show Harry on ig and such, but what do I know (I hope they're still tight!!). I don't keep up much either, and I obviously was checked out for the majority of whatever happened or didn't happen, so I might be totally misinformed and I hope all is well between them, but I also don't think the theory that they had a falling out seems implausible. I guess we'll see (or maybe we won't) :)
