I’m sorry but when season five finally premieres, it’s OVER. I will not eat, sleep, leave my room, go to class, or BREATHE until I finish every last DROP, SCRAP, SNIPPET, FRAGMENT, PARTICLE, PIECE, and MORCEL…of Phineas and Ferb. I won’t be able to talk about anything else for DAYS. nay, WEEKS. nay, MONTHS. IM GOING TO LOSE MY MIND. I WILL BE SO FERAL CONSUMING ALL THIS NEW CONTENT AND INFORMATION. I will go insane. I will RULE the WORLD.
Okay, so... Phineas and Ferb is a lot more complex than you might think for "a kid's show"?
Lawrence and Ferb are immigrants. (British and white, but still) Not to mention, the Flynn-Fletchers are a blended family that absolutely loves each other (Candace canonically states multiple times that she loves her brothers, even though she's always trying to bust them).
Isabella is a simp for Phineas, yes, but 1) she's very kickass and Phineas knows and relies on this, 2) she's Mexican AND Jewish. Two ethnicities that don't typically have good role models in the media.
Buford and Baljeet's relationship is odd, granted. Bully and bull-ee. Friends. But because Buford keeps being around Baljeet and HIS friends, he becomes more rounded as a person, showing his knowledge of French, random historical facts and literary quotes. Baljeet has someone to ground him when he gets too in his head with math and science. Oh, and let's also not forget that Baljeet is shown to be extremely smart. He made plans for a PORTAL TO MARS. He's a stereotypical nerd, but he's Indian and proudly so.
I dunno. I think most people focus on the smart writing and humor and music from the series, and maybe someone hasn't thought about this before?
in the episode “La Candance-Cabra” all of the kids pull out their phones and they’re literally all smartphones. Phineas, Ferb, Isabelle, Baljeet, Buford all have better phones than Candace’s flip phone
I love the idea of Buford being a nerd for Greek/Roman mythology+ history . I guess it makes sense since Greek and Roman history + mythology is very big man history with an emphasis on war hero’s, emperors, etc which would be RIGHT up his alley. But I still think it’s an interesting side of his character
Like he knew the (albeit fake) story of the Gordian Knot, he was super willing to participate in the Trojan War reenactment, even taking a leadership roll, and he was super knowledgeable about the clothing worn by his character.
we already know buford tends to gravitate towards nerdy things so he can be “a kid in a candy store” (Nerds of a Feather) with the amount of nerds around him, but the Trojan War reenactment and the implied book club that preceded it seemed to be just the friends.
I can imagine Baljeet maybe getting him to read the Odyssey or the Illiad and he secretly loves it but he is NOT letting Baljeet know but as he gets more comfortable around his friends, he lets his interests come to light in small ways…
I wonder which ancient historian he likes best? I think he’d be a fan of Plutarch’s parallel lives, because it focuses on the big guys, and their lives and journeys
He’s so cute, he is taking this so seriously. Also the sentiment of “here’s your shield, come back with it or on it” was very of that era, but providing a kit for your army… well
