2023 Headline Award Winners Additional Fiction
Additional Fiction Winners
Little British Award  [Best Short]
Tumblr media
Winner - little wooly baa lambs by timeladyleo
“Such a perfect English love. Even with a joke gone too far, Herc's love shows through. He would hold her hand and follow Carolyn anywhere.   Thank you for showing us the quiet side of the love of Herc and Carolyn.”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - Wrecked Again by Ynyseira
“In only 100 words you raise Giles up to the clouds only to dash him to the earth.  Only a second of bliss for the poor watcher.  Thank you for giving it to him. And to us.”
Epic Award  [Best Series/Long-fic]
Tumblr media
Winner - Nocturne by RoselynnThornwood and The_Eclectic_Bookworm
“Nocturne meaning is and they weren’t kidding when naming this fic. This is an incredible fic that covers not only the Buffy verse but the original Vampire story - Dracula.  Both writers did an amazing job writing across both worlds, convincingly weaving them together without losing the key facets of what makes each one recognizable. Some really amazing key snippets are dropped into the story which make it a fascinating read.  The sensory, mouth-watering writing of Stoker was captured really well.  Though, don’t be put off if you haven’t yet read Dracula.
Setting the story to “The Wish” verse was a great choice, allowing for the cross-over and this plot to play out convincingly. The structure followed Stoker’s novel, so it is in journal/correspondence format throughout. It may have been better for the story to shift out of that once the story is brought back to the Buffy Verse but it is still an amazing read.  Lead and supporting characters are incredibly well written. Oz was great for instance.
It is a nerve-wracking fic throughout and you honestly find it unnerving the more you read. It is dark, sad and morbid - which is true to both Verse’.  This series just gets better and better. The layering of the Buffy plot and storylines come to the fore as the story progresses, each element being cleverly interlaced and rewritten.  There is a comparison between “traditional”/Buffyverse vampires and Dracula-spawned vampires which demonstrates the really simple but clever way the two worlds collide and meld.
The writers also add more depth behind their concept with knowledge of the wider Buffyverse (comics, novels & games), giving us an entirely different take on the idea of a Vampiric Giles. This is certainly hands down a far better & exciting version than the official Buffy stories that were published.
This fic is the epitome of “good squirm”.”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - I Got You Babe by Skyson
“This year’s runner up was such a close second it was a hard choice to make.  I Got You Babe is reminiscent of the classic Love film we all know and love. Not strictly a song-fic, this fic has its own soundtrack that “plays” thought out and sets the tone.
Set post series, the writer allows us to venture down a familiar path that we all enjoy losing ourselves in. It’s an affectionate fic. Not just for the buffy/Giles relationship, but also between the other characters.  It’s a slow burn fic which feels natural. You believe the characters are truly in love and are under no rush. It’s frustrating but in such a good way.
The fic places the characters in different circumstances post-show, therefore they are similar but different to the characters from canon, but still with their quirks. The writer confidently does this and demonstrates their knowledge of the show’s characters. The more you read the fic, the more you begin to realize that the fic is centered around Buffy’s development and her reaching maturity and it follows the change she makes into the woman she becomes.
What makes this fic a breath of fresh air is instead of dramatic or extenuating circumstances acting as a catalyst, the characters come together naturally and without pressure. That doesn’t make this fic any less sexy; the desire they feel for each other makes for an intense compilation of love scenes, but the writer doesn’t rush.
The story works through at its own pace and takes the time to cleverly place us back in the Sunnydale we all remember. There’s even a little callback to Giles’ original wardrobe. So, though it is an alternate future storyline, it is reassuringly reminiscent.
It gives us everything we want, including a final chapter that gives us a happy ever after.”
Behind Green Eyes Award [Best Characterization]
Tumblr media
Winner - proffer to displace by knapp_shappeys  (Herc Shipwright)
“Meeting up with Herc as Air Caledonian is in talks of a merger with Swiss Airways. We follow Herc's history with Air Caledonian and watch Herc battle with the idea of uncertainty as the layoffs and reassignments begin, and we get to ride the rollercoaster as Herc realizes he's made the cut and then is immediately brought crashing down when he gets the call from Linda that she hasn't.”
Tumblr media
Runner-up - A Perilous Path by archaeologist_d  (Uther Pendragon)
“In this we see a younger more confident Uther with a raw desire to conquer all. He has proven himself the strongest fighter and he will leave a lasting legacy no matter the cost. Truly capturing his arrogance as he believes the sacrifice to have a son will be of no consequence to him as he pictures his perfect life as King. All the more tragic that we as the audience know what fate awaits him.”

Bangel fans, we want to hear from you! During the run-up to the IWRY Fic Marathon in November, we’ll be getting to know each other through our Meet the Fandom series. Answer the questions here to join in.
What is your name?
Ange
Where do you hang out?
Instagram, Buffy FB groups, fanfic.net & Ao3 (NicHawkins)
Do you create any fan works?
I do write Bangel fanfic, but I'm very lazy. I haven't my updated my stories in ages. I have loads of unfinished stories on my laptop.
Funniest Bangel/Buffyverse moment?
In Earshot when Angel says, "I'm a funny guy". Deadpan.
What Buffyverse opinion would have you chased through the village with pitchforks?
When I mention to other Bangel fans that although I'm not a fan of Spuffy, I don't really mind them and I quite like Spike.
Share a headcanon you have about Bangel or the Buffyverse?
I always think IWRY spawned an AU where Angel stayed human, moved back to Sunnydale and helped Buffy fight the good fight in a more Xander type role. Whilst they had lots of smoochies and great sex in between apocalypses obviously.
How would you have given Buffy and Angel their Happily Ever After?
There's a few ways I'd give them a HEA but my absolute fave is Xena Avenger's The Journey, not the Destination take on how they build a life and a family together after NFA.
Last fic you read?
I'm addicted to a2zmom's Days of Future Past atm, her Wednesday updates are the highlight of my week!
Fill in the quiz so the fandom can meet you!

The amount of revamping I want to do with my massive Buffyverse continuation, despite knowing that it's not going to go anywhere, is ridiculous...
Handful of new series to go with the ones that already existed. Turn the "movie" specials into mini-series that give them more room to explore, plus the additions of THOSE, because the stories aren't enough to spawn a whole new series, AND, with the new series, that means excising what were subplots in one thing for the new thing WHILE coming up with something else for the existing thing that used it as a major storyline...
It's ridiculous, it's inevitably time-consuming, it's nothing that I should spend my time doing if I ever want to get my own original ideas off the ground... And I STILL have more ideas spawning in the process, telling me that I should add them into this tapestry that was already ridiculously long and beyond my individual capabilities to begin with.
Like, the original concept was, effectively, Faith gets a spinoff that starts the year after Angel concluded, that got two spinoffs centered around original characters, and then there was a spinoff from one of those. Then, in filling character gaps for canon characters with a handful of specials, several more spinoffs were spawned, leading to this sprawling universe whose big, grand finale would have been taking place in what amounts to somewhere in the next couple of years, had it actually been produced.
And with all the idea generation I've been having, I'm feeling like I have a few more that could lead to that grand finale series being pushed back some.
AND, like the continuations for 24th century Trek AND the alternate Buffy/Angel continuations I've come up with more recently, this is stuff that, realistically, I have no expectations of developing beyond broad outlines.
Why am I so ridiculous of a human being? For that matter, why can't I just enter a timeless pocket of reality where I can actually have the time to come out with the collective 97 terabyte finished version of all these things?
Like it'd be really neat if I could get all of these what if concepts out of me so that, instead of spending my time wanting to work in someone else's universe, I could have the metaphorical board cleared to work on my own ideas. But that would basically call for me to spend more time than I have for anything else to even make the attempt.
I hate creative triage.

tbh i always figured that the guys who made the first slayer lost control of the slayer line when she died, what with the classic buffyverse tradition of magic users getting in over their heads (if the next slayer was called six villages away, let alone on like… a different continent or the other end of Africa or something, chances of them getting their hands on her would be kinda slim!). the council *being* the anti-apocalypse bunch with the widest reach is probably good old fashioned british imperialism, yeah, but the anti-apocalypse bunch with the widest reach declaring itself in charge of the randomly spawning superhumans seems kinda reasonable, in context?
I mean, I see your point, but my trail of thought was like, how does the Council work in countries that would be...considerably less white or ones that are hostile to the English (imagine an Irish Slayer lmao). Granted there's an implication from Kendra that her Watcher was a native, so they probably foster local training.
I'm actually wondering if it's the Council that put the Slayers in order. Because you're right. The way the magic of the power transference works it's entirely random so a Slayer could awaken far away from the influence of the...*checks notes* Shadowman. Right. Dripping with creativity, that, but what if that's just how it was for centuries? The Council brings the Slayers under heel and order to the process. Which, I suppose is better than letting a bunch of super powered teenagers running around without knowing they can punch a hole through a person's chest. It's rather sinister that they're less interested in the lives of the Slayers (and Watchers) and more committed to...well, their sense of bureaucracy.

Supernatural Creatures Covered Elsewhere
Being part of a published RPG series that’s a little obscure, there’s a few beings that I can’t do writeups for that are pretty well known.
The “Buffyverse” and Victorian standard style of Vampire are covered in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Ghosts of Albion RPGs.
But don’t worry, there is a LOT of variety to the Vampire. The same can be said for Trolls and Werewolves.
Monster Smackdown also shows a universal Zombie quality and a quality for various versions of Invisibility which can apply broadly.
They also have show-specific monsters such as: Brachen Demons, Vigori of Oden Tal (male and female), Deathwok Clansmen, Chaos Demons, Miquot Clansmen, Mok’Tagar, and Vengeance Demons.
There are Vampire Slayers and Slayers  In Training.
Some unpublished works go into detail on many other demonic species featured in Angel, but I will not even be mentioned here.
There were some Original Creations in the books as well, but for Crossover Universe purposes, they won’t be mentioned.
Ghosts as well as a Phantasm and Restless Spirit are covered in Ghosts of Albion.  A phantasm can manifest a full body among other details, while a Restless spirit is simply a ghost that cannot leave until its business is finished.
Changelings, the half-breed spawn of Faeries, are also featured in Ghosts of Albion.
Court Faeries are the most prominent species covered in Ghosts of Albion. The quality is expansive enough to be able to cover a wide variety of ‘greater’ faerie creatures with only minor tweaks, such as Nymphs and Elves.
Specific tweaks include:
Naiads and Oceanids are aquatic.  They have the Amphibious quality, increasing the cost of the quality to 20 Points.
Dryads live connected to specific trees and die with them. This is a 2-point drawback, reducing the cost to 15 points.
Hamadryads are as Dryads but have the Natural barrier drawback (3-point version) as they are bound to an area near their home tree. This costs 12 Points.
These are the things that won’t get their own entries.  If you want to know, grab the books!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is getting a reboot (but Whedon is also creating a new series The Nevers)
So, it was going to happen eventually, I guess.  A reboot of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is on the way.
The surprisingly good news is that original creator Joss Whedon is onboard, serving as Executive Producer, and helping the new showrunner (Monica Owusu-Breen) with the script.
There's been rumbles of a new BTVS for a while now, but now Whedon has given his blessing, this reboot is pushing forward.
Not too much is known at present, except Buffy will likely to be played by an African American.
Tumblr media
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER was originally a movie, with Buffy played by Kristy Swanson.  It was... okay.  Them the  series then followed in 1997... that's when the Buffyverse was truly born. Sarah Michelle Gellar now played Buffy, with a great supporting cast including Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Nicholas Brendon (Xander) and James Marsters (Spike) to name a few... and it spawned a spin-off, with Buffy's Vampire boyfriend leading a darker, more adult show ANGEL.
Presumably this new reboot will be of the series, rather than the original film - so, it'll be interesting to see if they include new takes on Willow, Xander etc, or take their own path with new characters.
How do I feel about this?  On one hand, I'm excited... but on the other, concerned.  I was a teenager when the BTVS series was running, and it remains one of my favourite series of all time, as well as cementing Joss Whedon as one of my creative talent gods (you cannot imagine how happy I was when he got THE AVENGERS), so I worry that this new show will ruin the legacy.
I'd be less worried if it was a new show, adding to the legacy... with new characters existing in the same world as Buffy, but for the show to have an actual reboot... well, I'm glad Whedon is involved.  I'm going to keep my eye on it, and I'll try not to judge it before it airs.  It could potentially be awesome.  My fingers are crossed that it is.
It's unknown how involved Joss will actively be... as he also has his own new creation coming - THE NEVERS.  I AM definitely looking forward to this, as have been yearning for him to create a new world for us to enjoy on TV for sometime.
I will, undoubtedly, be writing more about these projects as we get more information.

Unpopular Opinion time, yay!
I have only seen up to 10x02, but I have a very strong opinion about one character that I know is not very shared among other Dean and, more specifically, Destiel fans:
I don’t like Jack. I don’t trust Jack. I definitively don’t want to see Jack play child to Dean and Castiel.
(For that, I rather have Claire and Emma. I mean, we could bring back Emma, no? Now that the series has started AGAIN on the path that Evil is nuture and not nature, that there are  not definitively Evil creatures, we can get Emma back.  I may not be very hung up on her as I understand her narrative purpose and why she had to die in her only episode, but given that THIS season we’re getting a Scooby Doo crossover and I have the sinking feeling of how that’s going to happen, we could have Emma back and give her a chance and a new narrative place)
I don’t trust Jack not because he is the literal spawn of Satan (I mean, this is the show who decided to fill the void of sympathetic demons left by Clem and Lorne of the Buffyverse side). Nor because the writers decided to fridge his mother in the most disgusting manner seen yet in this series (Her whole arc, the whole way in which the series saw her as little more than a talking womb, still creeps the fuck out of me). Nor because he literally brainwashed Kelly and Castiel out of doing the right thing under the situation -both Kelly’s attempt to kill herself after she found out the truth, and then Sam and Dean’s suggestion of simply taking out the fetus’s grace so that it’d be a normal child rather than the literal spawn of Satan- because I know SPN writers and I know that said brainwashing is never going to be addressed again (unless we’re really unlucky and it gets retconned).
No, I don’t trust Jack because I see the very transparent way in which TPTB are using him to manipulate us, Dean and Cas fans, to like him. Even worse, I see how that manipulation seems to extend to In-Universe situations.
Because as @sevenpointedspiral and I were watching 10x02 I realized that Jack ONLY has the “Castiel-like” mannerisms when DEAN is there to watch him. It’s only then when he’s not only OVERLY literal, but he also adds some of the body language we identify with Cas, such as the angelic head tilt.  When he’s alone with Sam, his body language is different, and he very much calls upon Sam’s Messiah complex and proyection issues (Especially the whole “Dean hates me. What if he’s right. What if I’m a monster”), and he takes on a WHOLE different “clueless” identity when alone with Donatello. (And, as @sevenpointedspiral said to me, who the hell sees Gollum’s like hand come out of a FIERY PIT OF HELL and doesn’t realize that oops, it may not be such a good thing. Especially a someone who a) has read the bible, b) got his knowledge of the world out of a mind-rape bond with the woman who bore him, and c) Had ALL the clues to how the “Donatello” in front of him was not the Donatello he had met even BEFORE Dean came and put a bullet into Asmodeus’ head?)
Jack is subtly manipulating the brothers in universe, and TPTB are not so subtly trying to manipulate us into liking him. And I really don’t like that.
(Of course, I could be wrong about the end game of the season. I really NEVER thought they would go suddenly into the Amara is NOT a completely evil creature despite the fact that she ate and destroyed the souls of countless people and thus, hey, she’s a woobie and you should like her now, but otoh, this writers are well known for last minute nonsensical twists of panic)

Doomed (BTVS 4.11)
This is part of my ongoing Buffyverse Project, where I write notes/meta for every episode in an attempt to better understand the characters and themes of the shows. You can find the BTVS list here and the ATS list here. Gifs are not mine.
Tumblr media
Doomed opens exactly where Hush closed--with Buffy and Riley silently staring at each other. There’s a distinct difference in the question they each have for the other: Buffy wants to know who Riley is while Riley wants to know what Buffy is. It’s already obvious that Riley has a job while Buffy has a calling.
Of course, Buffy already knows much more about the Initiative than Riley knows about the Slayer. She does learn the official name they have for supernatural creatures: HSTs, or Hostile Sub-Terrestrials. Hard to take them seriously with that name.
Buffy: I'm the Slayer. Slay-er. Chosen one? She who hangs out a lot in cemeteries? You're kidding. In every genera--You know, I really don't feel like doing the routine. Ask around. Look it up: Slayer comma The.
Amazing that Buffy’s ran into a group less competent than the Watcher’s Council. Buffy isn’t exactly thrilled Riley isn’t the normal guy she thought he was. After Angel, she’s just not looking for drama. Right now she’s looking for “not Angel” more than she’s looking for “new guy”.
For some reason (the inconvenience of moving him, perhaps?) Spike is continuing to live with Xander. I can see where all the Spander fics launched because they’re definitely arguing pretty bad. I’m assuming Xander’s parents haven't noticed their new house guest or they’d be demanding more rent. Spike is basically useless around the house and Xander demands he step up. Surprisingly, he tries...but ends up shrinking his clothes and having to wear Xander’s. I guess all-powerful vampires don’t have to bother with laundry.
Xander: No. You're not a guest. You're a vampire and you have no soul and I don't get exactly why we're not making you into Spike-on-a-stick.
Spike: Wish you would, if it's gonna be like this.
(breaks something) Property damage I can do.
Xander: That's it! I am way past through with you. Hate to break it to you, Oh, Impotent One, but you're not the"Big Bad" anymore. You're not even the "Kinda Naughty." You're nothing but a waste of space. My space. And as much as I always got a big laugh watching Buffy kick your shiny, white bum, and as much as I know I could give you a little bum-kicking myself now, I'm here to tell you...you're not even worth it.
Buffy has this habit of keeping her problems bottled up post-Angel. I think the confusion of her friends being traumatized from Angelus plus her still having feelings for him caused her to shut down. And honestly she never goes back to the way she was (I’m referencing her not talking to Giles or Willow about Riley being a commando, here).
Buffy: I've so got a reason. Pretty darn good one. The last time we had an earthquake, I died.
Giles: Yes. I know that. And therefore completely understand your anxiety.
Buffy: Oh, good. Hate for my little"untimely, horrible death"concern to be ambiguous.
Now that I’m thinking on it, Buffy’s death was brushed under the rug a bit. Thinking she was going to die had to be horribly traumatizing and probably left scars akin to being a survivor of a brutal attack. But BTVS doesn’t have time for PTSD.
Forrest: Well, the way I got it figured, Slayer's like some kind of Bogeyman for the Sub-Terrestrials. Something they tell their little spawn to get them to eat their vegetables and clean up their slime pits.
I found it a bit weird Riley doesn’t know about the tales of the Slayer while Forrest does. Riley ranks higher than him. Perhaps it’s alluding to his blinders when it comes to what he’s working for? Forrest, on the other hand, has narrowed everything down to black and white thinking: the HSTs are just animals. Riley hasn’t really looked into the Initiative while Forrest has and likes what he’s found just fine.  I feel like I’ve seen this mentioned before, but I’m definitely getting Forrest-has-a-crush-on-Riley vibes. He’s super dismissive of Buffy and extremely jealous anytime Riley worries about her over him.
Willow decides to head to a party alone in the hopes that Buffy will eventually show. I hated when Willow overheard Percy mocking her. I really wanted to have some faith in humanity and believe the “jock” saw the “nerd”’s value. Willow ends up crying in some random dorm until she realizes she’s next to a dead body.
Buffy: Wow. See, I was kind of unsure about where the party was. And then I saw the flashing red lights and the ambulance, and it's like... oh, right, of course. Carnage. Death. It's a Buffy party.
After some research the gang and the Initiative realize something big is coming. We get to see that both sides have their advantages: Team Buffy has more knowledge of the occult while Team Initiative has convenient gadgets.
Giles: It’s the end of the world.
Willow: We did this already.
Xander: it is losing its impact a little.
Giles: End of the world. Divisions break down, Hell itself flows into our lives like a sea of fire. Loss, tears and heart-rending pain without end for every human man, woman and child on this earth. Death ten times over. For each of you and everyone you love.
Xander: Hmm. Feeling the impact again.
I love when a television show is able to make fun of itself, so I loved the exchange above. After the world is supposed to end multiple times you stop believing the heroes won’t stop it.
Buffy and Riley run into each other while on patrol and finally have The Talk.
Buffy: Can't... any of it. Can't be with you. It's a mistake, it's a huge black pit of a mistake and I can't go there again.
Riley: Again? You've dated me before?
Buffy: No. But I've been involved with...you don't know what my life is like.
Riley: And I'm dying to find out!
Buffy: Operative word: dying. There's too much risk -- there's too much... It's just doomed, okay, and I can't do doomed again right now.
Riley: I don't understand where this is coming from. I know you like me. And it's not like we don't have anything in common.
Buffy: But it's --
Riley: Buffy. I'm thrown by this. I'm confused. But I can feel my skin humming -- my hands, my... every inch of me. I've never been this excited by a girl and I'm not trying to scare you, not gonna force myself on you but I am by God not gonna walk away because I think it might not work. I don't know what's happened in the past --
Buffy: Death. Pain. Apocalypse -- none of them fun. Do you know what the Hellmouth is? Do they have a fancy term for it, 'cause I went to high school on top of it. For three years. We don't have that much in common. This is a job to you.
Riley: It's not just a job --
Buffy: It's an adventure, great, but for me It's destiny. It's something I can't escape, something I can't change. I'm stuck.
Riley: You don't have to be. You're not in high school anymore. You can change things.
Buffy: Riley... No.
Riley: I know it seems like --
Buffy: My answer is no.
Finding out Riley knows about the supernatural upped the intensity of their relationship in a way Buffy just wasn’t ready for. In the back of her mind I think she imagined slaying would stall and eventually end her relationship with him, which made him safe. She didn’t have to worry about going through something real again. But now that they could really fall for each other she’s running scared.
Xander: Is too. For one thing - that's my shirt you're about to dust. And for another - we've shared a lot here. You should have trusted me enough to do it for you.
Willow: Xander-
Xander: What? He wants to die. I want to help.
Spike attempts suicide (badly). I get they were trying to throw in a comedic moment there, but I don’t know...it feels like Spike hasn’t tried sufficiently hard to get the chip removed to throw in the towel. And I haven’t really seen signs of depression up until this point? I guess it must be difficult to change your lifestyle and not just forcefully take what you want after centuries, though. I’m not going to get into the politics of suicide here because the show kind of toys with what’s okay when it comes to vampires. It’s okay to murder them because they’re just things, so it’s not surprising it’s okay to mock their attempts to kill themselves.
Forrest: I don't know about this girl, man. She's got you whupped something fierce, and you haven't even--
Riley: You'd be wise not to finish that thought, private. Now carry on.
Forrest is gay Forrest is gay Forrest is gay
Riley: You've got this twisted way of looking at things. This -this doom and gloom mentality. You keep thinking like that, things are probably going to turn out just the way you expect.
Buffy: You know, there is nothing more dangerous than a psych grad student.
Riley: Buffy -- where's the bad here? It just turns out we're even more well matched than we thought we were. I mean, you're a--fry cook. And so am I.
Buffy: Right. But you're an amateur... fry cook and I come from a long line of fry cooks who don't live past twenty-five.
Riley: Which is exactly the attitude I'm talking about! I know the risks of what we do. I also know it's more rewarding than any other job on the planet. And fun-
Buffy: Fun? Right. The last person I knew who believed that is in a coma right now because she had so much "fun" on the job.
Riley: I'm not saying you shouldn't take your work seriously-
Buffy: But just turn my frown upside down, is that it? I wish I could - but this isn't the kind of gig where you hang it up at the end of the day and snuggle with your honey.
Riley: But why? Why can't it be?
Buffy: I've tried it, okay? And every time, things fall apart - and I get sucked right back into the uber evil.
Riley: Welcome to the story of the world! Things fall apart, Buffy. Evil - it comes and goes. But the way people manage is, they don't do it alone. They pull each other through. And, sometimes, they even enjoy themselves. If you weren't so self involved, you'd see that!
Buffy: You don't know what you're talking about. You barely know me.
Riley: I know that it's not just the job thing. I'm sure there's some good looking guy that done you wrong in there too but mostly I think you want to stay down in the dark place.'Cause maybe it's safer down there.
I’d like to point out that Buffy has picked up Angel’s habit of trying to run off in the middle of things. Or maybe they were just well matched there. I’m also going to go out on a limb and say at this point Riley hadn’t lost anyone on the job. He says he knows the risks like he doesn’t really know, know what I mean? Doesn’t this make you wonder if Riley was on the other side of this conversation with his future-wife post Buffy?
Spike: I should think you'd be glad to greet the end of days. I mean, neither one of you is making much of a go at it. You. Kids your age are going off to University -- you made it as far as the basement. And Red here. You couldn't even keep dog boy happy. I mean, you can take the loser out of high school-
Willow: I see what you're doing. You're trying to get us to dust you-
Spike: Am not. I just don't want pity from geeks more useless than I am.
Willow: We are not useless! We - we help people. We fight the forces of evil-
Spike: Buffy fights the forces of evil. You're her groupies. She'd do just as well without you. Better, I'dwager - since she wouldn't have to go about saving your hides all the time.
Xander: That is so not true. We're part ofthe team. She needs us.
Spike: Or - you're just the same 10th grade losers you've always been - and she's too much of a softy to cut you loose.
Man, Spike. Cut right to the heart of things why don’t ya? It makes sense we’re finally acknowledging Willow and Xander’s inferiority complex. It’s been in the background for awhile. We see from Spike’s smirk that he doesn’t really mean the things he says; he’s just trying to cause conflict. But he knows exactly how to do it.
I’m a big fan of nostalgia so I loved the scene back in Sunnydale High. I read in the script that we see Amy’s mom there but I missed that. I’ll have to look again. During the fight scene Spike learns he can fight demons, which is a great revelation for him that allows him to take out some aggression and feel strong again. Buffy and Riley team up to save the world.
Riley: Well, hey! Willow. Xander, right? What are the chances, huh? I was just passing by - and I thought I heard people inside-
Willow: You were just passing by...in your GI Joe outfit?
Buffy: No offense - but you are looking wicked conspicuous.
Riley: I am? But it's... paint ball and then the aftershock and I-
Xander: So you're one of the commando guys, huh?
Buffy, your Faith love is showing. Riley doesn’t recognize Spike (which, really? They really do view them as animals).
The episode ends with Buffy and Riley kissing. She’s decided to take the leap.
Character Notes:
Buffy Summers: She is a “Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius” making her birthday January 19. She labels herself (somewhat sarcastically) as passionate, artistic, and inquisitive. When she patrols she gets bored and memorizes things on masoulems like cereal boxes.
Riley Finn: His code name is “Lilac One”.
Willow Rosenberg: She’s very bothered by Percy calling her a nerd because she thinks she’s distanced herself from that. She was even dating a guitarist.
Xander Harris: When they need to leave Sunnydale High, Xander runs to help Spike out because he’s fallen down.

ANDREW: Oh, hello there, gentle viewers. (re: book) You caught me catching up on an old favorite. It's wonderful to get lost in a story, isn't it? Adventure and heroics and discovery?don't they just take you away? Come with me now, if you will, gentle viewers. Join me on a new voyage of the mind. A little tale I like to call: Buffy, Slayer of the Vampyrs. ANDREW (narrating Buffy's hunt): It was cold last night, and the wind was crew-ell, but the Slayer had a job to do. Unfortunately, vampires have a job to do, too. ANDREW: Ouch! My goodness! Things look bad for the Slayer, don't they? She didn't see that second vampire, concealed by cover of darkness, ready? (there's a knock at the door; Andrew ignores it) ready to attack and make her his own vampirical spawn. Let's rejoin them now to see? ANYA: For God's sakes, Andrew. You've been in here for 30 minutes. What are you doing? ANDREW: Entertaining and educating. ANYA: Why can't you just masturbate like the rest of us?

Aliciaverse Masterpost
The Aliciaverse is a Buffyverse continuity set after my Iron Coin Chronicles fic series, it is a ‘2nd Generation’ verse, centering on the character Alicia Lehane, daughter of Faith Lehane and Amy Lehane née Madison as she goes to college at UC Berkeley, starting in Freshman year, in 2027. Apart from Alicia, the main other characters are Kathryn Lockley, Daniel Chase-Harris, Jacobo “Jack” Rosado, Talia McDermott and Dr. Carter Williams. Technically, there are two other OCs in this verse, but they aren’t part of the semi-planned Aliciaverse stories - Jennifer Joyce “JJ” Chase-Harris and Iris Alonna Gunn. They exist off to the side, and are not present in Berkeley at all.
The technical divergence, of course, is the events of the Iron Coin Chronicles starting in Season 3 Buffy, which are still being written. However, for the purposes of understanding the Aliciaverse, you don’t need to know all the intricate details about every in and out of the ICC. What you do need to know is as follows:
Xander and Cordelia never break up, Cordelia manages (with Willow’s help) to secure enough of her money to go to UC Sunnydale for two years until, in the aftermath if Glory’s defeat, Xander and Cordelia move to Sacremento (Cordelia transfers to UC Sacremento, Xander transfers to the Sacremento branch of the construction company) because its finally time to move off the Hellmouth. They of course stay in touch with their friends and help with major crises when needed. They get married and have two children: Daniel Chase-Harris and Jennifer Joyce “JJ” Chase Harris.
Amy Madison never gets turned into a rat, joins up with the Scoobies, and becomes friends with, and eventually falls in love with (and gets fallen in love with by) Faith Lehane. Faith, for a number of reasons, doesn’t go Evil, doesn’t end up in a coma, and sticks around in Sunnydale helping Buffy until she too moves out of Sunnydale shortly after Glory’s defeat, when she gets a Slayer Dream that suggests she needs to move to L.A. Eventually, Amy and Faith get married, and Amy gets pregnant with (thanks to an accident involving a stolen fertility idol) their child, Alicia Lehane
Oz dies during Willow’s freshman year in a freak accident. While it takes longer than in canon due to Willow’s grieving and mourning, Willow and Tara do eventually get together, WIllow realizes she’s gay (though she never believes she didn’t love Oz), etc. They stay on the Hellmouth and eventually become foster parents. I have yet to decide if they have or adopt children of their own at some point. Oh, and Oz bit Willow by accident some time before he died, so Willow is a werewolf.
Spike and Drusilla are given souls during the fight against Adam, as they were working for him, and Buffy & Co. needed a way to find out what Adam had planned (and torture was rejected as a plan). They flit in and out of the Sunnydale/L.A. Area, but are often off on their own, fighting demons and vamps in other parts of the country.
Buffy and Riley still break up (Angel still goes to L.A.) and admittedly, what Buffy’s relationship status in 2027 looks like remains undecided. Buffy stays on the Hellmouth, and indeed, is still on the Hellmouth, in 2027. By then it’s a lot calmer and more controlled than her High School and college days. Buffy never died defeating Glory, and the First never tried to destroy the Slayer Line.
Wesley never gets fired, stays Faith’s watcher, and eventually he works out a fairly solid rapport and Watcher-slayer relationship with Faith, albeit not one remotely like what he’d been trained to expect. He is Alicia’s ‘Uncle Wesley’ he’s the reason Alicia has the bad habit of drinking tea. He goes to L.A. with Faith when she gets her slayer dreams, but not before, and never really joins ‘Team Angel’ formally. (he’s on Team Faith, which works with Team Angel a lot, but they are separate) His relationship status remains undecided.
Angel went to L.A. and meets up with Doyle, who doesn’t die against the Scourge. Harriet Abrahams (formerly Harriet Doyle), Doyle’s ethnodemonologist ex, also joins up with Angel to help him on the demon front, and she and Doyle eventually reconnect and get back together.
Kate Lockley and Angel manage a better working partnership, and after one too many instance of police procedure getting in the way of solving/fighting supernatural crime, Kate Lockley quits the police and forms Lockley Investigations as a PI firm, which Angel nominally becomes an employee of (Angel Investigations was never formed in this AU) as useful cover for his activities. Eventually, Kate and Angel get together. No ‘perfect happiness’.
Darla still comes back, and Angel still goes overboard because of her. She is still turned into a vampire, Angel sleeps with her. I’m torn on if she gets ensouled at some point. Darla ends up skipping town on Angel regardless, only coming back when she is 9 months pregnant. In the end, she gives her life for her daughter,  who is named Kathryn after Angel’s baby sister (much as canon Connor was named for Angel’s dad). Kate ends up formally adoping Kathryn when the girl is two (by that point she was already ‘mommy’ to the girl) since Angel still kind of doesn’t exist, legally speaking.
Gunn and Fred still join Team Angel, more or less as they did in canon, and they get together, eventually having a daughter, Iris Alonna Gunn
Kathryn eventually moves to Seattle after graduating college to become a Champion and Supernatural PI there - but a run in with an Evil Cult will see her come to UC Berkely.
Though not for lack of trying on Holtz’s part, Kathryn doesn’t get kidnapped (not for long anyway) and doesn’t go to a Hell Dimension. She is raised in L.A. alongside (in time) Alicia and Iris, viewing both as little sisters/cousins (and she saw Daniel and JJ a lot growing up too, since there were a lot of visits between all the extended Angel and Scooby Gangs over the years)
Talia McDermott (Alicia’s Roommate), Jacobo “Jack” Rosado (Initially Daniel’s Boyfriend) and Dr. Carter Williams (an ethnodemonologist who worked with Kathryn in Seattle) are also characters in the storyline’s centered on Alicia’s adventures at UC Berkeley.

*sigh*
"Oh, well, if the muse wants to do some work on the old Buffyverse stuff, I should indulge it somewhat in the name of trying to also funnel some of that creative energy over into the other things I'm working on," I said.
"I know it's not going anywhere but it at least it's trying to do something writing-wise, instead of just staring at the screen for hours and calling 'the writing process'," I said.
"Just because I'm not gonna do anything with it seriously doesn't mean I can't spend some time and think about it," I said.
In other news, I've now spawned the concept for four more of these spinoffs in this universe, at least one of which will subsequently mandate a major rewrite of one of the spinoffs that already existed, reworked a whole seasonal arc for the flagship series - no, wait, DEFINITELY at least two - and I legit have lost count of how many miniseries ideas are there now, but if I count the ones that spawned out of the ideas of prequels/stories set during Buffy and Angel, it's EASILY over one hundred. And that's just at present count!
The MCU has NOTHING on this expanded universe!
*laughs the laugh of the insane*
*cries*
See, this is what I mean about wanting to have a little timeless pocket of reality to enter - I had that, maybe I could actually PRODUCE this, instead of just generating more and more IDEAS. Ideas that are probably very good, but ideas that spending time on THESE ideas takes away from the time and energy I have to spend on THOSE ideas, and THOSE ideas, I can put out there as my own original concepts, rather than using the building blocks of someone else's work!

15 Hilarious Buffy Memes Only True Funs Will Understand

Created by Joss Whedon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has only continued to grow in popularity over the years. In the age of the Internet, this endlessly quotable series had lead to more than a few funny and relatable memes. Buffy tried to live her life like everybody else, despite the responsibilities that she had to deal with. Most people can relate to the pros and cons of trying to have a happy existence, while dealing with the sometimes less-than-pleasant aspects of life.
One of the many ways people do this is by relating to shared experiences through entertainment. Memes allow people to quickly share ideas, quotes, and observations, usually along with a picture or series of pictures that bring it all together nicely.
Even after 20 years, people still find ways that situations on Buffy can apply to everyday life. As with other more recent popular shows, there are things in the series that just fit so well with these ever more bustling times.
We’ve rounded up 15 funny memes incorporating Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All of them are hilarious, though some might be funnier than others. Here to brighten your day are 15 Hilarious Buffy Memes Only True Funs Will Understand
15 ANGELUS EQUALS AWESOME?
Advertising [x]
The Angel/Angelus struggle was akin to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, except instead of science it was magic. Cursed to lose his soul if he experienced a moment of happiness, Angel had Angelus locked firmly away within the recesses of his being. Except for when he didn’t (And there was that time that he locked a roomful of lawyers in with two bloodthirsty vampires. But technically, he still had his soul then, so…). Back to the point. Angel was the good guy and plenty cool in his own right. Angelus, on the other hand, wasn’t so much cool as he was unburdened by what happened to those around him. Because he didn’t have a soul, he only cared about what he wanted to do and that freed him up. Caring about his own needs, though, wasn’t the evil part (as demonstrated by Angel and Spike both finally being unburdened of most of their guilt – Angel through the mind-trip with Faith, and Spike through Robin’s attempt at using the First’s brainwashing).
It was the fact that part of his “needs” involved mentally and physically hurting people before taking them out. However, in his evil state, he was like Freddy Krueger on a one-liner bender, slicing and dicing people’s emotions and watching the carnage fly. As horrifying as Angelus was, he had a way with words and actions that made him stand out as a villain.
14 HAPPILY EVER AFTER? SURE, WHY NOT
Advertising [x]
To be fair, this isn’t entirely true. Sure, Joss is known for stories where characters experience a lot of heartache and some pass on, but that’s rarely the end of the story. Tara’s life was ended unfairly, it’s true, but Willow continued to grow as a character. Riley left, but there was Buffy and Spike. Spike sacrificed himself to save the Slayers and the world, but he got to have another life on Angel. Fred passed away, but Illyria took her place in the group eventually — and if you go into the comics, Fred comes back too. What really gets fans about Joss’ work is the heartache isn’t just about death.
Writers end our favorite characters all the time.
But with Whedon, whether it’s an ending of life or ending of a relationship, the way it’s done cuts deep and is lasting, even if the character returns. It’s true that there are other writers and directors who do this – countless shows, movies, and books have left readers and audiences curled up, blubbering messes from the destruction of characters and/or worlds they grew to care about. Maybe it’s just kind of funny to point out that the happiness audiences feel about characters in Joss Whedon’s work can just as quickly turn to devastation and back again to happiness. It certainly gives you something to sing about!
13 YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED BUFFY?
When you’re a fan of something that has only grown in popularity over time, it’s difficult to imagine that there might actually be people in the world who haven’t seen it, or at least heard of it. Naturally, it’s impossible for everyone to have seen every show ever made, even ones that are cultural phenomenon. It’s reasonable. It happens. We would just like to say… Who are you people?!?! Why haven’t you watched Buffy?!? What is wrong with you? It’s not like you haven’t had 21 years to get caught up! This is insanity. Everyone in the world should have seen this by now. Even babies. Babies should all be Buffy fans now. Elon Musk is planning on shooting  satellites into space to blanket the world in Wi-Fi (side note – is that a good guy becoming a super villain kind of thing or nah?). Requirement number one should be to beam every episode of Buffy and Angel into everyone’s mind. But, you know. No rush or anything (And just in case it’s not apparent, this is just a bit of fandom fun, even though the series is fantastic. Obviously, the satellites won’t be able to beam shows into our minds. If they can, then we should probably get Buffy’s beeper number).
12 TO BROOD OR NOT TO BROOD
Brood-y McBrood-y pants. Angel was the king of brooding. But, let’s face it, he had good reason. Saddled with a soul after he turned into a Vampire, he started to feel all of the guilt that Angelus didn’t have, along with the perfect memory of everything Angelus did. Eventually, he did become less broody, turning his focus fully to fighting the good fight, especially where Wolfram and Hart was concerned.
The argument can be made that this was their intention all along. While Jasmine made the claim that she manipulated events so that Angel would end up in Los Angeles and eventually have a son, Connor, it was Wolfram and Hart that had skin in the game from the beginning. They always had their eye on the vampire with a soul, since it was foretold that whichever side he fought on would succeed. This was still true, even though Holland Manners’s claim in “Reprise” also appeared to be true: “See, for us, there is no fight. Which is why winning doesn’t enter into it. We go on, no matter what. Our firm has always been here on Earth… in one form or another… we’re in the hearts and minds of every single living being. See, the world doesn’t work in spite of evil, Angel. It works with us. It works because of us.” Interestingly enough, that speech lead to Angel’s lowest moment, which in turn lead to his epiphany and renewed resolve to fight – and a little less brooding.
11 WAIT, WHAT?
Advertising [x]
This is so accurate. One thing that makes the show stand out is that it doesn’t really seem dated. The styles, the lingo, the situations – they pretty much seem like they can be placed in today’s world without being out of place. But then, bam, you see a computer and it reminds you that the show is actually old enough to go to a bar. In four years, it’ll be old enough to rent a car. They do grow up so fast, don’t they? Luckily, because the focus of the show was magic-based, real-life technology wasn’t always so heavily featured. Even with the Initiative in season 4 and with Willow’s knowledge of computers, it doesn’t detract from anything.
Who need an iPad when you could have a brick?
At the time, it was probably difficult to imagine that a show about a girl saving the world from demons and vampires would go on to become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring countless people across the world. It changed the landscape of television, spawned college courses, similar stories in all forms of entertainment, and still continues to influence the world of entertainment today. Who knows what will happen in the world in the next 20 years, but for its part Buffy and its spin off Angel have left significant impressions on the history of entertainment thus far, which is quite a feat.
10 YOLO OR NO, YO?
Advertising [x]
One of the cornerstones of Buffy is the fact that her life was briefly taken by the Master, breaking the Slayer loop, and she was brought back again after giving her life to save Dawn/the World. These facts about her have been a huge part of shaping the whole series. In the comics, it’s revealed that there was a prophecy about a Slayer who would upend everything and it turns out, of course, to be Buffy. She develops God-like powers and chaos more or less ensues. Must be a Tuesday. Of course, Dwight is a fitting character to use for a meme like this, which pokes fun at the popularity of YOLO by pointing out that maybe there are situations where that’s not exactly true. Particularly as far as the Buffyverse is concerned. When you think about it, YOLO is used a lot as a fun, motivational quick-reference, but with advances in technology, this eventually might not be the case anymore. Cryogenics, stem cells, you name it. If the real world was the Buffyverse (or vice versa) they probably could have just uploaded Buffy’s full life memories into the Buffy Bot – then there really would have been two them (oh, wait. Andrew actually did that in the comics). But this is probably taking the meme way out of context. How very Dwight!
9 DON’T WANNA, NOT GONNA
Advertising [x]
This meme features Buffy in season 5, after she becomes distraught and trapped in her head after losing Dawn to Glory. She had given up and Willow had to help her out of it so they could all stop Glorificus. If one thing is for certain, it’s that Buffy never really wanted to be the Slayer. It’s one of those things where, since she was the Slayer she wouldn’t exactly want it taken away. But, if she could have a normal life she wouldn’t mind that either. Kind of a double-edged scythe. Nowhere was this seen more clearly than in season 6 after she returns the second time. Buffy is despondent, she would rather have anyone else take care of the responsibilities, even as she does them herself. We’ve all been there, right? It’s quickly revealed that she was in a place of absolute peace. After that, she simply didn’t want to be in the harsh, cruel world, responsible for saving everyone yet again. While it was a departure from Buffy’s normal fire to fight, it was still in keeping with her desire to not have the responsibilities of the Slayer hoisted upon her. Come to think of it, maybe this meme is only funny out of context, huh?

8 BUFFY VS. TWILIGHT. FIGHT!
The Twilight here is not the Angel/Twilight of the comics. Instead, it’s that vampire series that’s totally, honestly, really not a rip-off of Buffy, without the gravitas. Really. At this point, everybody knows that there’s a bit of back-and-forth regarding Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight and Buffy. The similarities are pretty apparent, even though Meyer’s initially stated that she never watched Buffy so she wasn’t influenced by it, but also stated that her sister would watch the show and she was familiar with it through hearing it in the background. But back to the meme. Spike alone would decimate a sparkling vampire with all the swiftness of throwing back a shot of whiskey and Buffy would make a few quips about using too much body glitter along with the dispatching.
Move over Twilight vampires, we got some real vampires approaching.
Apparently, the Twilight vamps have Dracula-like powers, but seeing as how Buffy has gone toe-to-toe against Dracula himself, that wouldn’t be an issue either. Add Angel to the mix, and despite their superpowers, the vamps and werewolves (there were werewolves too, right?) of Twilight wouldn’t stand a chance. Even Selene from Underworld, a super tough vampire in her own right, would turn the Twi-Vamps into extra-crispy toast. Fans of Twilight might beg to differ — and they would be wrong — but it’s all good. It’s all fun in the fandoms. Sparkling vampires still make no sense, but tomato, toMAto, right?
7 BUFFY VS. XENA
There is no Buffy vs. Xena. There’s no way to choose between the two. Sure, the shows were pretty different, but their differences and similarities alike made them great. Xena and Buffy were both tough. Xena started out as a bad guy but quickly became a fighter of the good fight, thanks largely to her friendship with Gabrielle. Both relied on their own toughness to get them through, but they also had the people who cared about them to back them up when needed. Even though some liked to try it, a lot of bad guys recognized their strength. Xena saved the world too, though not in the same ways as Buffy. Like Angel, Xena felt a need for redemption for all the lives she took when she was an evil warlord. In fact, Xena and Buffy would probably just join forces to save the world, right? Though they would have to figure out how to cross the boundaries of time. Sounds like a job for Willow. So, in essence, this funny meme is also wholly accurate. You simply can’t pick between the two. And you don’t just simply walk into Mordor. It all makes perfect sense.
6 SERIOUSLY, THOUGH.
Sure, Buffy had some luck. But, there was a lot of ingenuity and help from her friends. When Buffy had to retrieve Faith, so Angel could heal from the poison the rogue Slayer hit him with, she didn’t have much luck. That resulted in Angel having to drink from her, which temporarily put her in a coma. Things turned out much better with the final plan to stop the mayor from consuming most of Sunnydale High’s graduating class, though. It’s the little things, you know? As with the responsibilities meme, this one points out that it’s not always easy being the Slayer. She had to go to school, fight demons, save the world, protect her friends and family, work and somehow fit in a romantic relationship and general social life, all while keeping herself together emotionally. Her to-do list was a doozy. What’s the plural of Apocalypse, again? But, despite all that, Buffy was definitely luckier than the Slayers before her. The first Slayer probably had it the worst. Implanted with demon powers by a group of men who figured it was better to risk the life of a young girl than battle evil themselves, she apparently had no family or friends to speak of and had to live in uncomfortable conditions. In fact, before Buffy, it was the general rule that the only person the Slayer was supposed to have time for was her Watcher and that was for training and assignments. No wonder Buffy and Willow broke that system.
5 HOW YOU DOING?
Remember the “Hey, Girl” meme? Of course you do. The numerous variations mostly feature Ryan Gosling, some with adorable caption additions like, “Hey girl, let’s stay in and make Pinterest recipes.” Well, this is its super creepy opposite. Less pleasant and tongue-in-cheek, and more screaming in horror. The Gentlemen from “Hush” were the stuff of nightmares. They were like a time-split cross between Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas and Slenderman. Easily one of the best one-off villains of the series. The episode even received Emmy nominations. One can only imagine that the motivation behind this meme was to poke fun at the original meme by giving it an uber-creepy twist.
Hey gurl, who needs good conversation when you can have a creepy smile instead?
It works. What’s also funny is the fact that the Gentlemen don’t ever speak. That was part of what made them frightening within the context of the show. They didn’t speak and made it impossible for people in Sunnydale to speak while they were there, because the sound of the human voice was fatal to them. That’s how they’re defeated. In a great twist (this is how Riley and Buffy learn about each other’s secret lives) Riley helps Buffy get her voice back and she saves the day by screaming until the villains’ skulls pop. Talk about hey, girl. Hey, girl, yourself!
4 THE PHILOSOPHY OF OZ
Advertising [x]
Oz was always known for his stoic nature, which turned out to be pretty handy when he was bit by a werewolf. Most characters would probably flip out in panic or go power trip (Hey, Veruca. Heeeeeyyyyyyyyy.). Instead, Oz mostly took it in stride, even coming up with a way to protect others from the werewolf. His Zen nature was a great balance at the time to Willow’s less-Zen nature. But things didn’t stay that way, and Oz had to go away to find out how to better control that side of himself. Once he returned, he had almost full control over the werewolf. He was able to turn at will, no longer locked to the full moon. This didn’t turn out to be the best thing, though, as he unwillingly lost control of the werewolf after he learned about Willow and Tara. So he leaves again. Oz and Xander were similar in a few ways at times, particularly when Xander was being more wise than the wise guy, but Oz never really connected with the rest of the group in the same way. In the comics, Oz eventually becomes something of a Zen-like master and is married. He ends up helping the Scooby Gang and the new Slayers, and even after all that time he retained his stoic nature.
3 SPIKE WAS FIRST
Spike makes the claim that Billy Idol stole his look. Given that Spike is over a hundred years old, this is a reasonable theory. Before Spike claimed his spoils of war after ending Principal Wood’s mom, a Slayer, he was punk, sans cool trench coat. But, Spike went through quite a few phases before donning his signature look. He started out as a poet, a polite man in society. His style of dress back then was more on the conservative side, fitting mostly with the styles of the day, even though he still didn’t fit in with the society around him. He went through a 1950s chic phase in Italy with Drusilla. After he got his soul back, there was a while when he didn’t feel as connected to the coat he stole from Nikki, Robin Wood’s mom. Regardless of how he got it, this was Spike’s look, the look. Fittingly, on Angel the original jacket was destroyed, and Wolfram and Hart had another available for him – sort of symbolizing the new Spike. No matter how you look at it, Spike definitely had his own style and it worked. He was undeniably cool – even more so after he started fighting for the good guys and became one himself — and he knew it.
2 THE MASTER VS. VOLDEMORT
Twinsies? The Master and Voldemort apparently both went to the School of Evil for Evil Villains and it shows. They both lost more of their humanity in their quests for power and they lost most of what made them appear human. Too bad the same thing doesn’t always happen in real life. Punch mouth, as Buffy called him, was one of the older vampires and was proud of his lack of human qualities. He didn’t like it much when Angelus pointed out the lack of physical appeal. Voldemort also didn’t care much about outside appearances, he was too busy being hung up on “pure blood” vs “mudblood”.
Who needs good looks, when you’re flawless?
Go figure – two evil creatures with a thing about the supposed quality of blood. They had to be long lost brothers. If the Master had succeeded in opening up his people wine-bar, they could have gone into business together. Let’s not forget, both had their evil world-domination plans thwarted by school students and their administrative guardians. They were like peas in a pod. Both of them were powerful and had lasted longer than other villains, but that didn’t do them much good. Maybe if they should have gone the way of Dracula and at least kept up appearances, they could have succeeded? Who knows. Even though they were great villain characters to root against, good riddance to both.
1 BUFFY MEET SARAH
With a new Terminator movie in this works, this meme is funny and timely. Sarah Connor is another woman who prophecy launched from normal life to fighting for humanity. Unlike Buffy, Sarah didn’t try to lead a regular life. In the “Wish” episode, Buffy was more like Connor – sadly having no time for close friendships other than the ones that provided her with weapons. She did soften a smidge towards the end of Terminator 2 though. But as for her world view… seeing yourself being blown to bits by a nuclear blast initiated by an AI would dampen anyone’s sunny outlook. Put that along with having killer robots sent through time to kill you and your child and, well, you get the picture. But if you think about it, this would be an amazing combination. Joss Whedon and James Cameron working together on a Terminator/Buffy crossover (or anything for that matter) would be a dream team. Buffy’s faced terminator-like robots before (Ted, for one).  If demons suddenly became a part of the Terminator world, which would be kind of odd, but stay with us for a sec here – Sarah Connor wouldn’t even blink. Add Willow, and she would make quick work of Skynet too. Does magic time travel beat time machine? We’re going to go with yes in this scenario.
