Buddie Moodboard - Red, White & Royal Blue AU

So, guess who's been watching this movie adaptation way too often as of late? I'm taking the usual moodboard-y liberties, including mixing in some stuff from the book and the movie adaptation and keeping them at their ages from the show (and change their roles in society up as well...) Also, just imagining Oliver getting to speak with his actual accent lives in my head rent-free, as do many other things. But that's definitely up in the Top 10. Cheers!

Vice President Eddie Diaz could not be any more excited to attend the wedding of his friend Chimney and Princess Madeleine, Maddie for short. Well, he could be a bit happier, if Prince Evan, Maddie's brother, did not attend. He can't stand the guy ever since they met at a climate conference years ago. Eddie just doesn't have the patience to deal with entitled rich boys the likes of Prince Evan. After all, Prince Evan's only achievement in life seems to be to have a new girl every other week to have his picture on the front page of every tabloid there is.

While Eddie will insist that Prince Evan started this, he winds up having some part in what later spreads across social media as #cakegate. Which means the Vice President of the United States and the Prince of England are caught on camera, covered in cake, in Buckingham Palace, at a royal wedding.

Like winning re-election for President Robert "Bobby" Nash wasn't hard enough as it is. To relieve the situation, Eddie is stuck flying down to London for several photo ops to sell the story that him and Prince Evan are year-long friends. After all, alliances with Britain will be important, moving forward in Bobby's campaign.

Though the more time he's forced to spend with Prince Evan, the less he seems like the guy who was being such a jerk to him at that climate conference years ago. In fact, he seems like a genuinely good person. Who could have guessed?

While Eddie will insist that the prince enlisting MI6 to get his personal phone number, it does amuse him that Prince Evan seemingly wants to stay in touch. Over the next couple of months, the two wind up messaging each other almost daily. And to his even greater surprise, Eddie finds himself opening up to this man more than he's opened up to anyone ever since his wife passed away.

Prince Evan, or "Buck" as only friends get to call him, turns out to be anything but the persona portrayed by the Palace as well as the tabloids. Sure enough, he is a flirt, but a lot of his bravado covers up a rather insecure person who feels like the weight of the world is resting on his shoulders. Though the moment he is just with Eddie or Christopher, Buck seems perfectly at peace.

And strangely enough, Eddie does as well. After everything that's happened, he struggled trusting people with his son - and with himself. But with Buck, it's shockingly easy.

But things get complicated fast at the new year's party hosted at the White House. Because Eddie was not prepared for only just a second that Buck would end up kissing him.

And he did not expect to end up liking it.

Because he most definitely thought he was straight.

But after a few very awkward conversations with his friends, Eddie starts to realize that his actual sexual orientation may have been one of those other things he has since repressed. Who would have thought?

Buck is mortified at first, as he did not intend to confess his feelings for Eddie. But when they see each other again and Eddie kisses him back like that, Buck starts to believe that Eddie actually likes him back.

As both do not want a coming out just yet, considering their current situations as public figures, the two promise to keep things "casual". This arrangement works for a while, or so it would seem. Because it gets hard to stay "casual" when you start to care about someone so very deeply.

Buck makes some shocking discoveries surrounding his brother Daniel, which sheds a very different light on what he thought was his "destiny" and why his parents are acting that distantly towards him. To support Buck, Eddie invites him over to Los Angeles - where he normally lives, if not for his current political duties calling him to Washington. He wants to be there for Buck, and hopes that spending quality time with Christopher is going to get Buck out of his own head.

The plan proves to be a disaster, though. Buck spending a day "incognito" at the pier with Christopher results in both of them getting caught up in a tsunami. While both thankfully survive the natural disaster mostly unharmed, Buck is livid in the aftermath. He is convinced that he lost Christopher and thus failed him and Eddie.

Eddie draws very different conclusions after the event. After nearly losing both Christopher and Buck, Eddie is done being afraid of what other people - including his family - may think about him and his sexual orientation. He makes plans to bring Buck to Texas with him, to get to know his family, and to come out to them. And to make it clear that he is serious about wanting a relationship with Buck, as he has since fallen in love with him.

Just as Eddie is about to profess his feelings, Buck flees the scene and flies back to London. He refuses to talk to Eddie after that. But Eddie is not willing to give up just yet. So Eddie takes Christopher with him on his last-minute trip to London. Buck is in shock when he sees the two basically storming a castle to see him. Eddie confronts him about rushing off and ghosting him. Buck tries to act the part, but Eddie has since understood that Buck is just putting up a facade.

Buck eventually drops the act. More than anything, he wants to spend his life with Eddie and Christopher. He simply didn't dare to think that he could, given his role in life, and the fact that he still blames himself for what happened during the tsunami.

The two eventually reconcile, now sure of each other's true feelings for one another.

But just as they are about to get their lives back together and plan for a future together, chaos strikes when news start to spread about their relationship. Buck is yet again terrified, as the journalist running most of the stories is Taylor Kelly, an ex he thought he could trust in. And now it may cost Eddie his career, Bobby his re-election, Maddie's freedom away from the palace to find happiness with Chimney, and Buck the future he finally dared to fight for...

"Did you kill him?" asked Buck, walking towards Eddie with his gun low. "Is it done?"

There was a hint of worry in his voice. It had been a long night; longer than they had expected. His eyes searched for an answer, analyzing his face.

Eddie nodded, grinning. "It's done, baby, just like you asked me." He took a step, cutting the remaining distance between them.

Buck exhaled contently, a smirk rapidly taking over his face. He reached for Eddie's body, grabbig him by the neck and lifting him up, kissing him passionately.

"That's what I like to hear," he whispered, choking him harder. "You'll get your reward."

Halloween was just a few days away, neither of them having had the time or energy to shop for costumes as of yet. Chris was seven this year, their daughter just having turned two.

Looking down to her, Buck cooed, “what do you wanna be for Halloween baby girl?”

“Kitty!” she hollered out, poking at Buck.

Both him and Eddie chuckled at that, Eddie reaching out to grab her hands. “Ok, we’ll get you a kitty costume. Chris, what do you wanna be?”

Chris shook his head, with an eyeroll, one that was all too familiar to Buck. If Chris got his love for random facts from him, then he definitely got his sass from Eddie.

“She doesn’t want to be a kitty dads, she wants to be Boo.”

Buck looked back to Eddie then, his husband frowning in just as much confusion, Chris exasperated as ever.

“From Monsters Inc!”

He lets his head fall upon the edge of the mattress next to Buck’s hip. He grips Buck’s fingers tightly, trying to will the life back into them, and cries soundlessly until he has no tears left.

Buddie Moodboard - Criminal Minds AU

So yeah, I've started rewatching that show. And of course, Buddie jumped right back into my face and wouldn't let go until I moodboarded this. So... the moodboards have won yet again. Anyway, hope you enjoy. Cheers!

Looking back, Eddie Diaz never thought he'd join the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. After his time in the war, he took a long time, figuring out where to fit in, what to do with his life now that he is out of the military. So no, becoming an FBI agent, moving to Los Angeles to join the BAU sub-branch there, as a single dad, and to dive into dangerous situations on the daily is not the first choice that comes to mind. Less so if you asked his parents.

But there is only looking forward, so Eddie is taking his chances with the team under the lead of Special Agent Robert "Bobby" Nash. While everyone on the team is undoubtedly capable and undeniably nice to him upon his first day, one of the agents just returned from some time off seems less than pleased. In his opinion, they don't need anyone else on the team.

It doesn't take a profiler to figure out that the guy's got the heart in the right place, just a bit afraid of change, of people leaving – and someone allergic to being called by his first name. Though after their first together, Eddie and Buck don't just find a common ground, it doesn't take them long to develop a strong friendship.

One of the odd things about being surrounded by profilers is that it becomes all the harder to keep your private life private. Not only do you spend so many hours together, but you are surrounded by people whose job it is to figure other people out. So it's hardly surprising to anyone that each of the team has their very personal demons haunting them: Be it having lost loved ones to unsubs they didn't catch in time, or having found themselves in an unsub's hands and be saved by people of just that profession.

Buck also has his special reasons for being there. And as Eddie finds out early on, this job is so much more to him than a job is to most other people. He considers it his true purpose, more so because he feels like he owes it to Bobby that he ever got there. He used to be a regular police officer who just "tagged along", until Bobby consulted on a murder that happened in the town he was stationed at. Bobby picked up on Buck's innate talent to get inside an unsub's head and his dedication to the cause. Or as Bobby puts it:

"You can teach crafts and skills. But you can't teach talent and attitude. And Buck's always had both of these things."

So Bobby gave him his card, told him to try out for the BAU's special program. And Buck did. While it's taken a lot of effort, he eventually managed to join the team. Which is why he is not only protective of his friends at the BAU, for him, this job is his life. And he will defend that till last.

Buck's life is turned upside-down more than once when his sister Maddie steps back into his life. A few years back, he wouldn't have noticed that something is off, but as a profiler, he knows. He is no longer the kid stuck in a loveless home, believing every soothing word his sister says to keep him out of harm's way. This time, he vows to himself, he will protect her from her abusive husband, he will make her stay. So he helps her land a job at the FBI, filling the empty space his ex Abby left.

Things seem to be moving all the right directions once Maddie breaks out of her shell and dares to fall in love again. Chimney and her are as happy as they can be. That is, until Doug comes back, nearly kills Chimney, and abducts Maddie. The team races to save her, which, thankfully, they manage.

Though this is far from the only crisis the team has to face. One particular event changes everything for Buck and Eddie. After Eddie nearly dies at the hands of a sniper, nothing is as it was between them. Buck doesn't just feel like he failed his best friend. He feels like the feelings he's been trying to put off, those romantic feelings for Eddie that have no space in their world together, are shattered like glass, too.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Eddie quits the BAU. First for his son's sake. Later on, actually for his own. Eddie finally has to reckon with his past traumas, all the things he pushed down over the years. And he can't do that while working a job that forces him into swallowing it all down.

Though Eddie misses his job. He misses the team. He misses having Buck's back. Sure, he is around, but it's not the same as it used to. To top it all, Buck seems to be withdrawing more and more from them for reasons Eddie can't yet fathom. Eddie is hesitant about returning, though, fearing that Christopher won't take it well. After all, he nearly lost him once, and the fear of losing his father is all too painful and all too real in the line of work they do.

The whole world stops turning for Eddie one evening, though. Because he has to watch footage of Buck bleeding out on a street, held hostage by a kid seeking revenge on Bobby, with a suicide belt on and the trigger in his hand. It is then that Eddie decides to follow his heart and join the team as they race to rescue Buck...

“You okay?” Buck asked, turning his body and wincing at the pain of resting his head on his hand.

Eddie sighed, hiding his face in his own. “Yeah, I’m just… jumpy.” He sighed again. Buck frowned, reincorporating a little bit. “I keep thinking what could’ve happened to you out there.”

“Eddie, I’m fine,” he mumbled patiently. “I’m not defenseless, I know how to use our weapons.”

From across the room, Eddie scoffed, then cleared his throat. “It’s not about you being damn good with that machete, which I know you are,” he said, watching Buck nod in agreement. “It’s about the fact that you- it’s like you think this Camp could go on without you.”

Silence.

“…That I could go on without you.”
