A/N: I'm sorry for the long pause since posting part 1 of this series! I got caught up with life and had a lack of inspiration for writing this, but I found some motivation/inspiration the last two days so here it is, finally. I'll be better about pushing out the next few parts of this in a more timely manner. If you'd like to be added to the taglist you can add yourself using this Google doc. Please use it responsibly.

        You really thought an early morning run was going to clear your mind. You thought you could drown the details of the wet dream in sweat and pain and never think about it again. So, you were especially pissed off when the make-believe sound of Bucky making you ask for what you want began replaying in your mind with every step that you took down the chilly trails. Tell me what you need. As you continue along the dirt path, you can almost feel his hands on your thighs. Fuck. You know it means nothing. It was just a stupid dream. It probably only came about because you ran into him in the kitchen last night. If you’d run into a big, purple, infinity stone-wielding cretin in the kitchen you would’ve been just as likely to have a wet dream about that, right? Well, maybe not. But you can tell yourself that in hopes that it’ll ease your internal rage over having a wet dream about your new roommate.
         An hour later, you’re catching your breath in the elevator on the way back up to your floor. You tug your hair out of its snug ponytail and run your hands through it, massaging your scalp with your fingertips. You’re planning to take a nice, long shower, lock yourself in your room and do a little prep for the solo mission you have later tonight, and then meet up with Sharon for lunch. You repeat the plan in your head over and over as the elevator slowly carries you upward. It seems like a solid enough plan to help you avoid Bucky for at least half the day. Or so you thought.
         You’re as quiet as possible when you unlock the front door, unsure if Bucky may still be asleep or if he’s even home at all. Of course, the first thing you see when you step inside is Bucky, shirtless and in the kitchen yet again. He seems to love that little space beside the kitchen sink. The sigh that leaves your lips is a little more audible than you’d intended it to be, and the way Bucky lifts his gaze to your direction and raises an eyebrow at you lets you know that he not only heard it, but he wants to know what it was about. You didn’t mean to blurt the words out, you really didn’t. But the way he stood there both last night and this morning, looking so fucking hot that it makes your head spin and your cheeks feel warm…you just had to speak up.
         “Do you ever wear a shirt?” You ask exasperatedly. You push the door shut behind you and lock the deadbolt with a resounding click. When you look back at Bucky once more, he’s fucking smirking. You’re simultaneously annoyed and turned on, and all you want is a cold shower.
         “About as often as you wear pants.” He retorts. You don’t miss the way his eyes roam over your figure, taking in your slightly disheveled post-run look. He takes a sip from the glass of water in his hand as he wonders how the hell you still look so put together after a run. Your hair is down and somehow looks perfectly windswept, your cheeks and nose have the slightest pink tint to them from both the cold weather outside and the heavy exercise, and your leggings are hugging your legs and ass so tightly that you may as well be wearing nothing at all. His gaze makes you feel like your skin is on fire and it sets off alarm bells in your head. You need to get out of here. You make a beeline for the fridge, pulling it open and retrieving a cold bottle of water before quickly exiting the kitchen again, refusing to give Bucky a second look. Once you’re in the bathroom, you waste no time stepping into a cold shower as fast as possible.
         Bucky remains in the kitchen for another minute, almost laughing at his current living situation. The man has had only the most minimal associations with women outside of a professional setting for years now, and he sure as hell doesn’t remember any pleasurable interactions with women during his time as the Winter Soldier. Now, he lives with one. And not even just that, but he’s fucking attracted to the one he lives with. He created his own personal hell by suggesting you and Vision switch rooms, and now he has to deal with it. He tries to tell himself that you’re just physically attractive. He’d never like you on all of the levels needed for a relationship. He can’t stand the way you work in the field, you’re too unpredictable and too willing to put yourself at risk. It’s beyond frustrating. He could never like someone who doesn’t seem to give a damn if they live or die. So, he’ll focus on that. He’ll focus on that one thing until he finds enough things to dislike about you to make his cock start listening to his brain again.
         You shut off your cold shower and quickly towel yourself dry before wrapping the towel snugly around your body. You didn’t last more than three minutes under the icy stream of water, but it definitely did its job. Your stupidly attractive roommate is the last thing on your mind now. Or at least he was until you realize you were so rushed to get away from him in the kitchen a few minutes ago that you forgot to grab a clean change of clothes to put on after your shower. Shit. You’re freezing your ass off so you sure as hell aren’t going to wait around until you hear his bedroom door shut. Without giving it a second thought, you glance in the mirror to make sure that the towel at least covers your ass before pulling the bathroom door open and stepping out into the hall.
         Fucking hell. As Bucky stands in the hallway staring at you, he can’t seem to remember the one thing that he was focusing on to help dissuade his attraction to you. All he can focus on now is the way the skin of your neck looks so smooth and soft, the way your neck transitions seamlessly down to your collarbones, and the way your collarbones draw his eyes further down to your chest. He doesn’t let himself look any further once his eyes land on the cleavage that’s just barely peeking out over the top of the towel. His eyes flit back up to your face and suddenly, you don’t feel like the powerless one here. You’d think you would be feeling like the powerless one, given that you’re standing here in a towel and he’s between you and your bedroom door, but you don’t. You noticed the way he froze when he saw you, the way he couldn’t stop his eyes from tracing the curve of your neck and shoulders, and the way his eyes lingered on your chest a little longer than you would’ve expected. You have the power here. You straighten up a little and take a few slow, small steps closer to Bucky. He’s frozen right in between your two bedroom doors, so he’ll have to move out of your way or you’ll have to squeeze past him to get into your room. You’re sure he’ll move. You can feel your towel riding up your thighs and nearly exposing the curve of your ass with every step you take, but you fight the urge to tug it down, worried that the action would make you look insecure. Bucky stands firm in front of you, the eye contact between you two so intense that you wonder if he can see straight through you. God, you see why Sam calls him the bionic staring machine sometimes.
         Just as you expected, Bucky turns and walks up to his own bedroom door once you’re just a foot in front of him. What you didn’t expect was for him to say something to you as you wrapped your hand around your own bedroom door handle.
         “That’s twice now that you’ve tried showing me your ass in the past twenty-four hours.” His tone is calm and even but his words are taunting. You turn on your heel to see him standing in his doorway, facing you, and his blue eyes meeting yours instantly. You’re acutely aware of how short your towel is as it barely covers the curve of your ass, leaving little to the imagination. Apparently, Bucky’s well aware of it too.
         “If you were nicer to me, you might’ve made it to three times, James.” You tease, pushing your bedroom door open and walking through it, refusing to look over your shoulder at him. It’s safe to assume he stole one last look at your towel-clad form before you shut your bedroom door and left him standing there with his cock as hard as it’s ever been.
---
         Ah, fuck. Bucky rests his flesh arm on the inner wall of the shower and his forehead on his forearm, watching the water run into the shower drain at his feet. Every time he closes his eyes, he sees you in that damn towel. Every time you took a breath, your chest would pull the towel up your thighs in the slightest bit. It was practically torture standing in front of you when you looked like that. He shakes his head and turns his chin up with closed eyes, letting the warm water splash into his face, trying but failing to wash the image of you away. He clenches his jaw and looks back down at his cock. Fully erect, and from what? Nothing. You barely did a damn thing. You just happened to be walking down the hallway in a towel, surely not even intentionally. You just forgot your clothes. But shit, the view from where Bucky stood is forever ingrained in his memory. The view and the way you said his first name like you liked the sound of it. He’d never heard you say his first name before. Hell, he liked the sound of it. But your fucking teasing? He didn’t like the sound of that. The way you insinuated, jokingly of course, that you would’ve continued finding ways to nearly show him your ass if he was nicer to you? Bullshit. This is all bullshit. Bucky desperately needs either a new place to live or a fan-fucking-tastic new method of letting off steam, before he says or does something stupid.
         He wills himself to ignore his cock in the shower, and once he gets out and towels dry, he pulls on a clean pair of boxers and sweats. He utilizes the ages-old trick of tucking his boner beneath the waistband of his boxers so it won’t be as obvious when he inevitably runs into you again in the tiny apartment that you share. This time, he’s also sure to put on a t-shirt. Maybe him being fully clothed will inspire you to start wearing some pants. As he pulls the bathroom door open and heads straight for his bedroom, he thinks that maybe he should head out for the day, get away from here before he runs into you again and you have the chance to call him by his first name or nearly show him your ass for a third time.
         You’re sitting on your bed, scanning dutifully over a few electronic files that Fury sent you regarding tonight’s solo op, when you hear Bucky finish up in the shower and quickly shut himself up in his room. Your mind starts to drift away from the task at hand as you replay his words from earlier in your head. That’s twice now that you’ve tried showing me your ass in the past twenty-four hours. Of course the little shit was keeping count. And the best response you could come up with was a tease. You scrunch your eyes shut and shake your head, attempting to clear your mind so you can focus on the mission details before you. This is not the time to be getting distracted. Tonight’s op is serious, and you’re going in with only two backup agents strategically placed in the club’s staff, so you need to be as prepared as possible and as on your game as you’ve ever been.
---
         A not-so-innocent little black lingerie set adorns your figure, hugging your body in all of the right ways and accentuating all of your best features. You give yourself one last look in the tall mirror in your bedroom, making sure everything looks perfect, before pulling on a pair of black jeans, a black sweater, and then a black leather jacket over the top. You pull on a pair of sneakers before double-checking that your bag for the night is packed and ready. It holds a pair of black ankle-strap heels, body glitter, your most complimented perfume, your makeup bag, and a couple of choice weapons tucked away from prying eyes. You have everything you need to gain the attention of one particularly nasty underground vibranium dealer, Elias Leveaux.
         In less than an hour, you’re downtown at the most high-end strip club in northern New York. It’s known for wealthy clientele, and it’s on SHIELD’s radar specifically because Elias is known to drop in at least once or twice a month. You’ve read enough about the guy to wonder why someone with so much money and such an illegal, secretive day job would choose to go to a strip club that’s more or less open to the public. You’d think he’d hire a few girls privately and enjoy his free time that way, but it’s like he gets off on the experience of being the richest, scariest guy in the place. So he goes, at least once a month, always sometime during the second week of the month, like clockwork.
         The last thing you expected to see when you walk in the back staff entrance of the club is a text from Fury, letting you know that the plan for tonight has changed. It’s nonspecific and gives you absolutely no clue as to what might’ve changed, but you don’t have time to text him back and ask for clarification before you’re being directed to the dressing room and told that you’re supposed to be on the floor in less than five minutes. What the hell is Fury thinking?
         Bucky initially thought that being called out for a last-minute op was a blessing. He thought it was exactly what he needed to get out of the apartment for a few hours and get his mind off of you. At least until he found out that the entire op centered around you. He breathes a heavy sigh as he stands outside the club, adjusting his black gloves and glancing at his watch impatiently. Sam is never late. Walker, however, doesn’t know how to be anything but late. Of course, Sam wasn’t going to be the one to wait around outside for Walker’s arrival, so he’s already in the club, seated somewhere at a table near the back wall to keep an eye on things. As Bucky continues to wait in the cold, he begins to wonder what kind of role you’re playing here tonight. Are you a cocktail waitress? A bartender? Fury didn’t give him much information when he called earlier, he simply said that the possibility of something going sideways tonight had escalated enough that he wanted extra hands on deck. Specifically, the undercover hands of the new Captain America, a super soldier, and America’s most hated: John Walker.
         “I’ve got eyes on Leveaux, he came in through the private entrance on the west side of the building.” Sam’s voice reaches Bucky through his in-ear monitor, right as Walker is approaching.
         “Sorry I’m late. Fury really doesn’t like to give us a heads up, does he?” Walker asks, clapping Bucky on the shoulder in greeting. Bucky shoots him a death glare and Walker quickly drops his smile and hand, remembering who he’s talking to. This is going to be a long fucking night.
---
         When the lights go off and the crowd in the club gets quieter than it’s been for the last forty-five minutes, Bucky follows the turning of everyone’s heads to the stage. A few dancers have come and gone so far, a couple had the crowd going wild for sure, but whatever it is that’s coming next seems to have sucked the breath out of everyone’s chests as they sit on the edge of their seats with anticipation. Even Elias Leveaux has waved his henchmen away and he sits at his table close to the stage with all of his focus trained on the dark platform. When the lights on the stage turn on, they have a deep red hue to them. The low notes of a sultry song begin rumbling through the speakers in the club and as soon as the first bit of skin is visible on stage, Bucky’s mouth goes dry and his heart begins slamming against his ribcage.
         Holy fucking shit. It’s you. You’re the girl that has the attention of every single man and woman in the club right now. You’re the girl dressed in the skimpiest little outfit that Bucky has ever seen. Even the bartenders across the room have their eyes on you. Bucky can’t breathe, he can’t move, he can’t think. You make it to centerstage and begin your routine seamlessly, transitioning from a suggestive dance in your heels to an all-out Magic Mike-level move that involves you crawling across the stage, perfectly in time with the music. When your eyes land on Elias, you maintain eye contact with him as you crawl forward, arching your back and flipping your hair over one shoulder. You watch as he adjusts himself in his seat and rests his right hand high up on his thigh, a tell-tale sign that he’s hard as a rock and it’s all because of you. You flash him an innocent smile before continuing your routine and scanning the rest of the club for his henchmen. You count two near the bar, and one near the main entrance. You’re two minutes in and nearly finishing up your routine, dragging your hands down your chest, over the see-through black lace corset that wraps around your ribcage, when your eyes land on the last person you need to be thinking about. Bucky Barnes. He sits at a table in the far back corner. You can’t even drag your gaze away from him long enough to see who else is at his table. Your eyes are locked on his as your skin heats up and the music fades away. He’s too far away for you to notice the way his jaw is clenched or the way a tent is forming in the front of his tactical pants. As soon as you’ve disappeared from the stage, Bucky stealthily adjusts his pants and composes himself before turning to Sam and Walker.
         “What the hell? If this is what she does on all of those solo ops Fury sends her on, sign me up. I’ll be back-up for every single one.” Walker says, clearly not caring to hide his own arousal. Bucky imagines his fist colliding with the side of John’s face and it calms him a little before he speaks up.
         “Say something like that again and watch where it gets you.” Bucky’s tone is like ice, sending a nervous chill through John Walker’s bloodstream and effectively softening the hard-on in his pants. Unfortunately, Bucky’s own hard-on isn’t going away. Sam isn’t paying any attention to the two men on his team, he’s instead focused on Elias Leveaux, who’s waving over one of his henchmen and whispering something to him. Bucky follows Sam’s line of sight and sees the same thing. The henchman quickly disappears backstage, going through a door labeled “staff-only.” This is either going to be exactly what you and Fury planned for or something that’s going to end badly, there’s really no in between. Your goal was to have Leveaux ask for a private dance, or at least approach you and make contact in some way. You need an in with him.
         You’re just stepping into the dressing room backstage when a tall man dressed in all black, one that you recognize as an employee of Leveaux that was standing near the bar earlier, approaches you in a surprisingly professional manner. He keeps is eyes on your face, even though you’re still wearing an outfit that bares nearly your entire body for everyone to see.
         “Miss, my employer would like a moment with you in private.” The man’s voice is low, and he keeps his tone hushed so the other girls in the dressing room can’t fully make out his words.
         “Your employer?” You ask, easily playing dumb.
         “Mr. Leveaux. He’s in attendance tonight and would like a moment of your time, if you’re free to meet with him now.” You pretend like you’re mulling over his words as you examine your makeup in the mirror.
         “Should I change clothes?” You inquire, meeting the man’s gaze in the reflection of the mirror. He gives you a small smile and shakes his head.
         “I don’t think that will be necessary.” His answer gives you plenty of information. Elias Leveaux is interested.
         Ten minutes later, you’re in one of the private rooms upstairs with the most ruthless vibranium dealer sitting on a couch in front of you. You’ve just walked in and already, his gaze is ravaging your body. He’s basically removing every little piece of your lingerie ensemble with his eyes alone.
         “Mr. Leveaux…” His name leaving your lips brings his gaze up to your face. You study him for a moment. It’s the first time you’ve seen him outside of surveillance pictures in SHIELD files. He’s characteristically attractive, with a chiseled jawline and perfectly manicured stubble decorating it. His hair is black, so black that it matches the tattoos you can see peeking out from the collar of his button-up shirt. Your job is always easier when the bad guys are hot as fuck. “What can I do for you tonight?” You ask, an air of confidence surrounding you as you play with your hair and lean against the wall across from him.
         “Come closer.” He says, cocking his head and spreading his legs slightly on the couch. He oozes confidence and masculinity, in a way that nearly makes you blush. You obey his command, and as soon as you’re within his reach, he grasps your hand and pulls you down to sit on his knee. “Tell me your name.” You’re learning very quickly that he never ends anything with a question mark.
         “I don’t get your first name?” You ask, letting your left hand rest on his shoulder as his comes to rest on your bare thigh. He studies you in silence for a moment, ghosting his hand back and forth along your thigh as you stare back at him. The dim lights in the room and sultry music playing through the speakers only add to the tension.
         “Come home with me tonight and you get anything you want.”
         You made the decision on a whim. Knowing that Fury not only has an entire surveillance team watching everything that’s happening in the club right now, but that he also has Bucky and whoever is with him on site, you’re not very worried about what might happen. So, this wasn’t part of the original plan, so what? You were supposed to do whatever you needed to do to gain Elias’s attention because you needed an in with him. You needed to become someone he trusted so that you could eventually gain access to his phone. The original plan involved him noticing you tonight, maybe paying for a private dance the next time he sees you at the club, where you’d have the chance to drug him and access his phone to get the names and phone numbers of a few of his contacts. But as soon as he invited you back to his place, you knew that you could knock out the entire possibly months-long op in one night. So, you decided to take the chance. You stand on the curb now, with his long black coat wrapped tightly around your frame since Elias didn’t give you time to go back and put your clothes on over your lingerie. You didn’t want to risk bringing your bag anyway, not with your gun in it. Though you feel naked while not having a firearm within arm’s reach, you imagine this night would take a turn for the worse if he or one of his henchmen went through your bag and found a government-issued one.
         Bucky stands with Sam and Walker inside the club, near the exit, as Sam tries to decide what to do in this moment. Sam sure as hell doesn’t want to let you leave with this guy, but no one has come up with a good way to stop you yet, not without breaking your cover. Everyone knows how stubborn you are, but they also know how good you are at your job. If you’ve decided to go home with Elias Leveaux, it’s unlikely that anyone will be able to stop you, while simultaneously being likely that you’ll successfully finish the mission on your own tonight. However, by leaving with him, you’re going to be taking yourself far away from any backup, from any chance of rescue should anything go awry.
         After a few more seconds listening to Sam and Walker argue about a plan, Bucky sees the glint of a black car pulling up to the curb in the moonlight, and watches with silent rage as Leveaux’s hand dips down dangerously close to your ass before he reaches to open the back door for you. Fuck it.
         “Y/n!” Bucky’s voice reaches your ears so unexpectedly that you freeze. You hope that he knows that your cover name utilizes your real first name, otherwise he just attempted to blow your cover. What a fucking ass. You and Elias turn around at the same time, with Elias taking one look at Bucky and then immediately looking over at you, raising one eyebrow in question.
         “Ex-boyfriend.” You mutter to Elias, thinking on the fly. “Just give me a minute with him, then I’m all yours.” Elias glances back at Bucky one more time before nodding at you and sliding into the back seat of the car. You stalk over to Bucky, doing your best to mask some of your anger, stopping just a few inches in front of him. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Barnes?”
         “Keeping you from getting yourself killed. You’re not leaving with him.”
         “You might be a sergeant, but this isn’t the army and I’m not under your umbrella of authority.” You pair the words with a contemptuous stare, crossing your arms over your chest in defiance. Bucky smirks at you and licks his bottom lip before shaking his head slightly.
         “So, what then? You’re going to sleep with him, drug him, steal the info you need, and somehow get out of his house unscathed? With no backup?” Bucky asks. When he puts it like that, you have to admit that your plan does sound a bit foolish. But still, you won’t back down.
         “Yeah, and you’re going to go back into the club and find someone else to take your orders, because it sure as hell isn’t going to be me taking them.” You spit back. You’re waiting for his next retort when his eyes flit away from your face, to the road behind you and a little to the left. He sees something. You’re about to turn your head to follow his gaze when suddenly his hands are on your hips and he’s spinning you around, slamming your back against the brick wall of the club. The long coat that Leveaux gave you earlier falls open just as Bucky presses his body firmly against yours, shielding you from the ricochet of bullets flying around the street.
         You’re holding your breath. Bucky hasn’t felt your chest rise or fall even once in the last three seconds since he slammed you against the wall. He glances down at you and sees your eyes scrunched shut and your cheeks flushed.
         “Breathe.” He whispers gently, his warm breath fanning over your face. You draw in a harsh breath at his reminder, and he feels your chest rise and push against his own. You both turn your head to the side as the dark car speeds off down the street, each of you quickly memorizing the make, model, and license plate number. Within a second after the first car has passed, Leveaux’s own car takes off after it. There goes your villainous one-night stand. “Are you hurt?” Bucky asks, still keeping you pinned against the wall. You shake your head, but feel something warm and wet against your right abdomen. When you look down, you realize it’s not your own blood turning your skin red, but Bucky’s, seeping through his shirt.
He’s been shot.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
July 10th 2016
After a hard fought battle all of us who sided with Cap except for Steve and Bucky were taken to The Raft, a newly built prison especially for us. Wanda and I confined to straight jackets and power dampening collars. Barley able to move at all. The collars and jackets coming off of the two of you rarely. Then just like it was before the avengers suddenly they were testing the stone in your chest. Poking and prodding at it. They even tried to pull it out which the stone ended up hurting them when they tried it.
That is where Sam, Clint, Scott, Wanda, and yourself stayed for close to two months. Then finally on July 10th Steve and Natasha rescued you. As soon as Tasha took off your collar and jacket you hugged her finally having the ability to touch again.
"Fuck..." you buried your face into her neck. Running your hands up into her hair and just being able to touch someone again was a feeling you thought you’d never get to have again. It made you want to cry like a full blown sensory overload, but in the best possible way.
"You're okay, Y/N, you're safe," Natasha whispered, hugging you back. She lifted you ever so slightly off the ground. The weightlessness of it felt nice.
You looked up and saw Wanda being released by Steve. That's when Vision came in, letting you know that there wasn’t much time. Wanda ran to him, hugging him tightly. Just like that, with no more words between the two of you, you knew it was over, and your worst fear had come true. You looked away, re-burying yourself against Tasha as you felt tears prick the corners of your eyes.
"Come on, Y/N, let's go. I have someone I want you to meet," Tasha told you. Tugging on you a bit, but you were more than willing to follow her at this moment. You knew there was no way you could look at Wanda without having a full breakdown and Vision? You might tear him to pieces if you stay here any longer, feeling the anger boil over at him for taking her from you. "We're going to a safe house together. We're going to lay low for a bit."
You didn't argue, but you did look back at Wanda, hoping she'd protest or say anything, do anything. But she didn't. Her hand easily slipped into Vision's as a tear rolled down your cheek. She didn’t look at you, the smile she used to give you was now directed at Vision.
"Let's go, Tasha. No need to stay here any longer," You said coldly, grabbing her hand and pulling her along. Once you were in your own vehicle and flying away, Tasha cloaked and put it onto autopilot, she pulled you into her and let you just cry. No words exchanged for a bit as she just rubbed your back.
"You deserve so much better. Did she even tell you it was over?" she asked. You shook your head.
“She just pushed me away.... I'm sorry I left you that day. I-" She put a finger to your lips. You shut up quick from that.
"No need for apologies, sweetie," You looked up at her and finally took in her new hair.
"Blonde... hmmm.." It was also shorter than the last time you’d seen her a few months ago. You could only wonder what she had gotten up to, but you could only assume she did it because she was in hiding.
"You don't like it, do you?" You shook your head a soft smile coming to your face.
"It's not that... I just prefer redheads," you mentioned with a shrug.
“Well I’ll grow it back out. No more blonde after this, okay?” Natasha asked as if your answer would be the end all of her dying her hair. You simply gave her a nod and moved back to your own seat.
“I still don’t know how to fly...or drive...” You spoke up making the blonde chuckle.
“You were being held captive for two months I wasn’t expecting you to learn.” Her voice had turned light and airy, a bit of laughter coming out. “Here sweetie flip that switch.” Natasha pointed to a switch on the dashboard which you did. “Good! So that turned off auto pilot. Now I’m going to show you how to actually keep this thing up in the air.”

I was awoken by someone jumping on the bed, startling me awake. "Harley Adams wake up already! I'm going to have to leave soon and then who knows when you'll get to see this face again!" I hear Yelena's thick Russian accent and I smirk, a chuckle coming out of my lips as I reach out and grab her, pulling her into a tight hold she can't get out of without hurting her of course. She still tries though,
"Mmmm Teddy." I bury my face against her.
"No Harley Adams I'm not your Teddy. That is Natasha's job." Yelena protests, but still I hold her there until she stops and then when Natasha comes through the door I hear her laugh.
"I feel like it was really your own fault Lena." Tasha remarks. I hear her come over to me, peppering kisses on my cheek. "Let her go malen'kiy." I do as asked and release Yelena. Turning now to Natasha, bringing her into my vice grip,
"Mmm Teddy."
"It's time to get up malyshka." I groan at Tasha's reminder, but also release her and sit up. I rub my eyes and yawn.
"I don't want to." I state with a pout.
"I know, but we all have work to do. Yelena is going to be heading out to go save more Widows. You have to work at the office, and I get to stay here and take care of the house." Tasha reminds me and I look over at Yelena. She gives me a small smile. I know she doesn't want to leave us again.
"I'm sure you'll be back before any of us know it." I smile at Yelena, holding her hand. I let my thumb rub the back of her hand.
As Yelena's smile fades into a more somber expression, she squeezes my hand gently. "I hope so, Harley. But you know how unpredictable these missions can be." There's a hint of sadness in her voice, but also determination.
"I'll be counting the minutes until you're back," I assure her, giving her hand another reassuring squeeze before releasing it.
Natasha comes over and sits on the edge of the bed, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. "You know she'll be safe out there. She's one of the best, just like you."
I lean into Natasha's touch, finding comfort in her presence. "I know, but I still worry," I admit softly.
"We all do," Natasha says, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "But we trust her, just like she trusts us."
Yelena stands up from the bed, her expression turning more determined. "I better get going. There are lives to save."
I nod, giving her a small smile. "Take care of yourself out there, Yelena. And don't do anything reckless."
She grins back at me. "Wouldn't dream of it, Harley." With that, she heads out of the room, leaving Natasha and me alone.
Natasha turns to me, her gaze softening. "Ready to face the day, malyshka?"
I sigh, but nod. "Yeah, let's do this."
Together, we get up from the bed and start getting ready for the day ahead, knowing that no matter what challenges come our way, we'll face them together as a family.
May 30th 2018
As you go through the days at the office you’re constantly reminded of your old life that for the time you've left behind. You know it's been two years, but you could never let go of that lingering feeling that something was always around the corner for you. Everything felt quiet too quiet as you listened to a patient talk to you about how their new meds are doing. How they're helping them with their episodes and I smile. Remembering that this is all you’ve ever wanted. Just to help people like this. Yet now? It didn’t feel like it was what you wanted. You missed the action. You missed saving people. You missed Avenging.
"This was a good session Jean. We'll set up another appointment for next week okay? Just let her know at the desk." You smile as she exits and you let out a breath as you slump back in your chair.
Your chest, more specifically your stone, seizes up, as you clutch at your chest struggling to breath for a moment before it passes. Recently it's been doing that. These random bursts of seizing coming from your stone and you couldn’t figure it out. It had never done anything like this in all the years since it decided your chest was it’s new home.
As you finish up for the day you head to your car and head home. Taking out your key and turning it in the lock. As you drop your keys in the bowl by the door and start taking off your flats your chest once again seizes up. "Tasha!" You call out, your voice strained to make it’s way out. You hear Tasha's steps along with a heavier pair. You look up through pain filled eyes to find Steve. As you struggle for a moment to breath, you lean against Tasha.
"What's wrong Malyshka?" She asks worry etched on her face.
"First Vision and now you..." Steve says under his breath as you regain your ability to breath you take in a deep breath.
"What do you mean first Vision?" You hadn't thought about him or Wanda in a long time.
"His stone has been hurting him. He's been with Wanda the past few days and Wanda let me know about it." you bite your tongue until you taste metal.
"Do we know why?" Steve shook his head. That wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear.
"I came here to grab you two so we could head over to Scotland. The two haven't communicated in a few days." You feel your chest tighten, but it's not the stone this time.
"Will you be okay Harley?" Steve asks and you nod. The ability to talk felt foreign when it came to seeing Wanda again. Facing something you’ve run from for years. Though words bubble up to the surface like water boiling over,
"Oh yeah...yeah I mean it's been two years and we ended on shit terms so yeah I'm totally looking forward to seeing my ex and her current synthizoid." You don't even give him the satisfaction of being a boyfriend. That would mean that he'd have to actually be human. You push past both of them. "I'm taking a shower before we leave." You say without letting either of them say anything.
As you step into the shower, the hot water cascading over you, you let out a shaky breath. The memories flood back, unwanted but unavoidable. Thoughts of Wanda, of Vision, of everything the two of you had been through together and how it all fell apart. You can feel the pain in your chest, not just from the physical discomfort, but from the emotional turmoil stirring within you.
Closing your eyes, you try to push the memories away, to focus on the present moment. But they linger, stubborn and persistent, like shadows creeping in the corners of your mind. You can't shake the feeling of regret, of wishing things had turned out differently.
As you wash away the day's stress and tension, you try to find some semblance of peace within yourself. But it's elusive, slipping through your fingers like water, leaving you feeling hollow and empty.
When you step out of the shower, you find Tasha waiting for you, concern etched on her face. "Y/N, are you okay?" she asks softly, reaching out to touch your arm.
You force a smile, trying to push aside the turmoil raging inside of you. "Yeah, I'm fine," you reply, though even you can hear the falseness in your voice.
Tasha gives you a knowing look, her eyes filled with empathy. "You don't have to pretend with me, Y/N/N. I know it's not easy."
You sigh, letting your guard down for a moment. "I just... I don't know how to face them, Tasha. After everything that happened..."
She pulls you into a comforting hug, holding you close. "You don't have to face them alone, Y/N. We'll get through this together, just like we always do."
"Why do you put up with me?" You ask standing in front of her, dripping from your shower. She gives a soft smile, grabbing your towel and helping you dry off.
"I love you. That's why." You sigh.
"But I..."
"You're still caught up on her? I know."
"So how can you love me? Why put up with me? Why me Tasha? We've got a 10 year age differ-" She cuts you off by pulling you into her lap and kissing you.
"Stop. Don't do that to yourself. You don't deserve it. I love every little bit of you. Especially that you still hold feelings for her." She tells you and you can’t fathom why that could be a reason to keep loving you when you couldn’t fully give yourself over.
"Why?"
"You've been through so much and yet you still keep your heart." Tasha stops a moment. "My mother asked me, 'how I kept my heart even through everything' do you know what I told her?" You shake your head, droplets of water flying, hitting various objects including Tasha.
"You. You showed me what it meant to always keep your heart through everything. You always had the answers. Every conversation we had you always had the answers. You always knew what to say, what I needed to hear. You always reminded me of the good. It was all you. So I'm going to love you at your highest of highs and your lowest lows. Your moments of jealousy when a girl looks my way, your angry outbursts, the bar fights you start with the guys when they squeeze my ass. I know you love me just as deeply as you do her. I don't ever question it, even though I know you still love her, you hold me in just as high of a regard." Tears are streaming down your cheeks.
"I didn't ask for a whole therapy session Tash..." You go to rub your eyes, but she stops you, brushing her thumbs at first and then she leans in and licks your tears.
"What can I say? I love seeing you cry Malyshka. Though usually out of desperation from edging-" You cover her mouth.
"Shhh Steve is gonna hear." You whisper. She smiles and laughs against your hands.
"Let's get you dressed and head out. We're going to Scotland and then hopefully back to the compound. I'm leaving Lena a note on where to find us." You nod and move off her getting ready to face being a superhero again.
As Tasha helps you get dressed, her words linger in your mind, comforting and reassuring you in a way you hadn't expected. Despite your lingering feelings for Wanda, Tasha's unwavering love and support fill you with a sense of gratitude and warmth.
"Thank you, Tash," you say softly, meeting her gaze with a mixture of affection and vulnerability.
She smiles, brushing a stray strand of wet hair away from my face. "Always, Harley. I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
With her by my side, I feel a renewed sense of strength and determination. Whatever challenges lie ahead, I know that together we can face them, just as we always have.
As you prepare to leave for Scotland, you take a moment to appreciate the depth of Tasha's love for you, feeling grateful for the unwavering support she provides, even in the face of your own uncertainties and insecurities.
With Tasha's hand in yours, you step forward, ready to face whatever the future may hold, knowing that as long as you have each other, you can overcome anything.
When you get to Scotland Wanda and Vision are in a heated battle between two alien beings. Vision is hurt and Wanda is by his side. You push your feelings aside when you see them coming at Wanda, rushing in and using more power than you had in a while as you use a bit more than expected and the bigger one goes flying backwards. Fumbling back through the building you found yourself in, coughing up something akin to blood you could only assume.
"Don't. Touch." Your possessive nature takes over. As you kick off of your feet the ground beneath them breaks away, sending you flying forward to the smaller one. "Run." You say a wicked look in your eyes and when he doesn't you grab his neck, lifting, squeezing as you watch him struggle. "You two hurt something I hold close and for that," You tighten your grip before throwing him like a baseball player would a ball. Sending him flying into the other alien creature before they beamed themselves back up. A low growl coming out of you, breathing heavily as you turn back. Tasha and Steve helping out Vision as you go over to Wanda.
"Are you okay?" You ask, worry in your voice.
"I'm fine." Her voice is cold. Her accent mostly faded away. You simply nod.
"Vision. I heard your stone is bothering you as well?" He's clutching at his side; you take notice that it’s torn open.
"Yes it seems it had something to do with those two." He tells you, his voice a little strained.
"Well lets hope so because I'd like to keep breathing." You tell him and Wanda.
"You weren't breathing!?" Wanda finally has some worry to her voice.
"Yes when my stone reacted to them. It would clench around my lungs. Remember me saying that? The stone has tendrils around my heart and lungs. So every reaction I'd struggle to breath." You explain and you see the emotions swirling, bubbling up to the surface on Wanda. You look away. "Let's go." You take Tasha's hand and go to the Quinjet while Sam and Steve help Vision to the jet.
In the Quinjet, the tension is palpable as you make our way back to the compound. Wanda's worry for you is evident, but the emotional distance between the two of you remains, a reminder of the unresolved feelings lingering from your past.
Tasha squeezes your hand reassuringly, silently offering her support. You appreciate the comfort she provides, grounding you in the present moment. As the jet soars through the sky, you can't help but reflect on the complexities of your relationships and the challenges that lie ahead.
Arriving at the compound, you assist Vision in getting the medical attention he needs. Wanda's concern for him is evident, and you can't help but notice the subtle shifts in her emotions. The air is thick with unspoken words and unresolved tensions.
Later, as you sit with Tasha in the quiet of your shared space, you can't shake the heaviness in your chest. The events in Scotland have stirred up old wounds and exposed the fragility of the connections you once shared.
"Tasha," You begin, your voice hesitant. "I don't know how to navigate this. The past, the feelings. It's all so complicated."
She looks at you with understanding in her eyes, her hand reaching out to cup your cheek. "Y/N, we'll figure it out together. We always do."
In her comforting presence, you find solace. The complexities of your emotions may linger, but for now, you are grateful for the anchor Tasha provides in the storm of uncertainty.
Tasha tilts your chin up to meet her, she leans in and gives you a full kiss. Your hand reaching up to cup her cheek as you slowly move against each other. Its a kiss full of love and passion and you almost don't notice Wanda storm off then Natasha smiles against your lips, pulling away from them to whisper in your ear. "I think she still likes you." You smile and push Tasha playfully.
"You think so?" You reply, a hint of amusement in your voice as you glance in the direction Wanda had stormed off.
Tasha nods, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I know so," she teases, her lips curling into a playful smirk.
You shake your head in disbelief, feeling a mixture of emotions swirling inside of you. Despite the complications of your past, the lingering feelings between Wanda and you are undeniable. But in this moment, with Tasha by your side, you can't deny the warmth and comfort her presence brings.
Leaning in, you press a gentle kiss against Tasha's lips, silently thanking her for her understanding and unwavering support. Whatever the future holds, you know that with Tasha, you are not alone. Together, you'll navigate the complexities of your relationships and find your way forward, one step at a time.
"I think I should finally be an adult and actually try to talk with her." You say to Tasha standing up. She offers you a smile and a reassuring squeeze to your hand as you go off looking for where Wanda went. You find her in one of the small rooms on the jet.
"Hey can we talk?" You ask, leaning on the frame of the door.
"I don't really have anything to say to you." She snaps.
"Well I do so just listen." You say moving into the room, closing the door behind you. There isn't much room in here and you’d rather not sit next to her on the small cot so you opt for squatting down in front of her. Sitting flat on your feet and holding your knees to your chest. "When everything between us started I was only 19 and you were the first person I ever truly let in. When I was going to school that's all I focused on. So you were my first everything and I may be smart, but I did a lot of stupid things in our relationship Wands. I was overly jealous in all my actions and I accused you of things that weren't true because I was insecure. I had my own mental health problems that I pushed to the side and by doing so I threw them at you. I was still a kid and I acted like one. Instead of talking things through I yelled and screamed at you which wasn't fair to you." You take in a deep shaky breath. "Tasha told me that Tony purposefully separated us during the accords. It's why Tasha took me with her. I wanted to make it clear that back then I didn't cheat on you. I'm not that type of person. It wasn't until after we were rescued and I saw you with Vision that I did anything with Tasha." You explain, looking up at her.
As you pour your heart out to Wanda, you can feel the weight of your words hanging in the air between us. She listens silently, her expression unreadable as she processes everything you've said. You hold her gaze, searching for any sign of understanding or forgiveness.
"I know I hurt you, Wands," You continue, your voice softening with sincerity. "And I'm sorry for that. I've had a lot of time to reflect on my actions and the mistakes I made. I just want you to know that I've grown since then. I've learned from my past and I'm trying to be a better person."
Wanda remains silent for a moment, her eyes flickering with a mixture of emotions. Finally, she speaks, her voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability. "I appreciate you being honest with me, but it's not just about what happened in the past. It's about trust and moving forward."
You nod, understanding her perspective. "I know rebuilding trust takes time, Wanda. And I'm willing to do whatever it takes to earn yours back. I just want the chance to prove that I've changed."
She sighs, her gaze softening slightly. "I'll need some time to think about everything you've said."
"That's all I ask," You reply, offering her a small smile. "Thank you for listening, Wands."
As you stand up to leave, you feel a glimmer of hope flicker within you. Despite the uncertainty of what lies ahead, you’re grateful for the opportunity to finally address the lingering tensions between you. And with time, you’re hopeful that the two of you can find a way to heal and move forward, whether together or apart.
You make your way back to Tasha, settling into her lap, wrapping yourself up into her. "How did it go?" She asks.
"Probably about as good as I could hope. Said she needed time to think. Said we need to rebuild our trust and all that." You tell her, feeling Tasha's lips on the top of your head before her fingers run through your hair.
"Good. I'm glad you finally got to say your peace to her. Watching you struggle with it for the past two years was hurting me." Tasha tells you. "Seeing you hurt, hurts me. I just want what's best for you and I want you happy." You smile against her neck.
"I want the same for you Tasha."
As Tasha holds you close, her comforting presence enveloping you, you can’t help, but feel a sense of warmth and gratitude wash over you. Despite the complexities of your past with Wanda, You’re grateful to have Tasha by your side, offering unwavering support and understanding.
"I'm lucky to have you, Tasha," you murmur, nuzzling closer to her. "You've been my rock through all of this."
"And you've been mine," she replies softly, her arms tightening around you. "We'll get through this together, Y/N. Whatever happens, I'll be here for you."
You lean up to press a tender kiss to her lips, feeling a surge of affection and appreciation for the woman who has stood by you through thick and thin. In that moment, you’re filled with a sense of hope and determination, knowing that no matter what challenges lie ahead, as long as you have each other, you can overcome them.

The Ring of Time [s.r]
summary : Steve comes back to you after returning the infinity stones. He made a stop in the forties, and brought back something important for the both of you.
pairings : Steve Rogers x Reader
warnings : None (if I missed anything let me know!)
word count : 530
AO3 (x)
a/n : Day seventeen of Comfortember is here! The prompt was ‘heirloom’.
Tumblr media
“Be careful,” you whisper to Steve as you hug him before he goes to return the infinity stones.
“I will,” he promised. “See you in a few minutes.”
You stepped away from the hug and stood next to Bucky. You watched as he stepped onto the pad, checking his watch. Between one breath and the next Steve disappeared. You shifted closer to Bucky, waiting on Steve to return.
“Be honest with me?” You turned to face Bucky.
“What’s up?” Bucky keeps his eyes focused on the pad.
“Is he coming back?”
Bucky opens his mouth to respond, but before he can Bruce says, “Here he comes. He’s back in three…two…one…now.”
He presses some keys at the control panel, but nothing happens. Your heart sinks, your biggest fear feeling real. Steve left you. You turn away from the pad, wiping at the tears that are starting to gather. You begin to walk away.
“Wait,” Bucky places his hands on your shoulder. “He’s coming back.”
You try to force your way out of Bucky’s hold, “He’s not! He went back to the past, Bucky. He had the chance to live the life he missed out on. Why would he come back?” You shouted.
“Because you’re here,” you heard Steve’s voice.
You turn around, surprised to see Steve stepping off of the pad. He takes long strides toward you, gently tugging you against him from Bucky’s hold. He tucks your head beneath his chin, wrapping his arms around you securely. You cry harder, holding onto him.
“I promised you it’d be a few minutes,” Steve comforted you.
“Bruce was timing you. You didn’t come back when he calculated,” you rambled.
“I had to make an extra stop before coming back.”
“Peggy?”
“No,” Steve moved to look you in the eye. “Not Peggy.”
Steve’s tone alone let you know how serious he was being.
You furrowed your brows, “Where did you go then?”
Steve removed one hand from around you and reached into his pocket. “I had to get something I left in the forties.” Steve pulled out a beautiful set of rings, holding them out to you. “These were my parents’ rings. I wanted to get them back, so I could do this.”
Steve dropped to one knee in front of you and held your hands. You smiled, nodding as he spoke.
“You’re it for me, sweetheart. I used to think I knew what I wanted out of life. Then I was frozen and awoke in a world I couldn’t recognize. Everything was different and I didn’t fit in this world anymore. I had no idea what I wanted out of life anymore. Then I met you, and everything made sense. The world didn’t look so foreign anymore, and I knew you were the one. So, would you do me the honor of becoming your husband?” Steve proposed.
“Yes,” you cupped his cheeks. “Absolutely yes!”
Steve leaned forward, connecting your lips. You wrapped your arms around him, kissing him back. You were faintly aware of the team clapping and whistling coming from where you left Bucky. All of that didn’t matter to you, your focus remaining solely on Steve.

Under his influence (Post Avengers! Loki x female reader)
Read chapter 12 here // Series Masterlist
Chapter 13
Summary : An indecent phone conversation with Loki makes you late for your meeting with Strange.
Warning: 18+, slight dirty talk, mention of sex, mention of psychological torture, angst, insecurities, self deprecating behaviour,
Tumblr media
"God I'd never get enough of you" she whispered as her lips lingered over his mouth for a moment before she kissed him passionately.
"I'd never want that either sweetheart " he looked down at her, he can try all the positions in the world with her but this right here was his favorite of all, her body underneath him and her eyes staring back at him with such love and adoration.
"Loo" she mumbled softly so he snapped out of his thoughts and leaned down to kiss her before he hummed "I'm scared"
"I know princess, so am I, but I have to do this, I can not lose you, I can't take such a risk" she nodded but he could still see the saddened look on her face.
"What if something happens and we aren't at the right place at the right time? What would happen to us then?" Her eyes welled up so he cupped her cheeks and kissed her before he smiled.
"My love, no matter where in the world we are, eventually we will cross each other's path in one way or another and we will do so when our timing is aligned perfectly, a moment so absolute where we would be eager and desperate to fall so deeply in love with each other..just like this, you were made for me darling and I'll find you anywhere, anytime..i promise "
He woke up with head pounding and heart beating so fast, after the training session with the Captain he had fallen asleep, more than the training itself it was the conversation they both had that had tired him out. He couldn't stop asking him about some man named Bucky and how he knew that this Bucky was alive because apparently that's what his doppleganger has said to him to distract him in the fight after the battle of New York.
He was still under the false assumption that Loki was the one to morph into him even though he had clarified it a million times, he probably shouldn't have done the same to make fun of him when he was handcuffed after they had defeated him, that's probably why Rogers was adamant on this theory.
And Now this strange dream he just had was worrying him. He have had plenty of dreams about you in the past but this one felt different, he knew he saw you but you seemed a little different, just a bit aged than you do now, not much though. It didn't even feel like he was in this dream, he felt as if he was watching two people he didn't even know. However he did recognise the shared love between them, their emotions mirrored how you two felt about each other.
Perhaps he was overthinking, he knew Thanos was looking to assemble all the infinity stones and since the day when he had escaped with the tesseract things have been different. He wondered what would have happened if Stark hadn't dropped the briefcase holding the tesseract that fine day, Thor was taking him back to Asgard, the course of his life would have been entirely different if it wasn't for him picking up the cube. He felt overwhelmed and only one person could have made him feel better so he sat up and picked up the telephone to ring you.
He dialed your number and it didn't even ring twice before you picked it up
"Hey handsome" you giggled and the sound of your voice made him smile,
"Princess, i want to apologise if I am being a nuisance while you are on the job"
"No no ..not at all, I got off early, have to see the guy remember?" Oh yes. The healer.
"How could I ever forget?"
"I'm almost ready lo, will leave in a few"
"Oh apologies darling, I wouldn't want you to be late for the meeting "
You sat down on the bed as he said that.
"Maybe I want to be late, I'm not going to see you for hours, let me just talk to you baby" he smiled at the comment.
"Okay we can talk my sweetheart, what are you wearing?" you gasped as he said that and it took him a second to realize how his words were being interpreted.
"God you're a naughty boy..it's barely two in the afternoon" you mumbled and he was grateful you weren't there to see the effect you had on him. He was a god, where was the will power and self resistance? How come you were able to break him so easily?
"No no I just mean in general, I just wanted to have an image of you in my head, that is all" he mumbled nervously
"Mmmm I'll tell you if you tell me what you are wearing"
"Well I …uhhh .." he just had a satin sheet to cover his modesty, when alone he enjoyed sleeping naked. Clothes always made him feel hot and not in a good way.
"Oh my god you're naked aren't you? " he squeezed his eyes as you said that "Oh that's a lovely image.. I can picture it you know, your tall athletic naked body on the bed, aren't you the perfect sight for my sore eyes?" Why were you doing this to him?
"Now who's the naughty one here?"
"You look so pretty lo, kinda want to be there and see you like that" his eyes filled with lust as you said that. Now he was wishing you were there to watch him while he gets himself off for you.
"Shhhhh before this escalates further"
"You don't want this to escalate, pretty baby?" He took a deep breath as you said that.
"Darling please"
"Please continue or please stop?"
"Norns..both ..I want both"
"Mmmhm I wonder what you'd do to me if you were here" your voice turned sultry as you spoke.
"You really wish for me to tell you?" He asked you so you smiled.
"Mmmhmmm please loki.. please tell me" he chuckled at the response. If you wanted to play he'd play with you.
"You sound so sweet right now princess, are you always like this when you're being dominated?" Your face flushed to the max as he said that, you could feel your ears getting hot at the sudden change in his tone. He really was a god.
"Ummm dominated?" You gulped
"Uhuhh have you never been controlled? Never been told what to do in bed? Never been subjugated or ruled over by a man much more powerful than you?" He asked you, you could sense the mischief reeking but at the same time his voice remained deep and husky, it melted in your ears and it made you feel as if he was hypnotizing you. Maybe he was hypnotizing you.
"Lokiiiii stahhhhp" you whispered buy your voice came out all whiny.
"You want me to stop now, little one?"
"Noooo..not really" you said meekly
"Figured, how do you feel knowing that i often touch myself thinking about you"
Your breath hitched and you needed a moment to answer,
"Uhhh I feel desired and sexy" you mumbled nervously.
"Such a good girl, that's how you deserve to feel all the time" you squeezed your thighs together at the soft praise, his voice had gotten so firm like a school teacher but in the sexiest way possible.
"I am a good girl..but maybe I'll disappoint you in bed" there you go ruining the sexy moments with your insecurities. His brows furrowed as he noticed the sadness in your voice so he propped himself on his elbow to flip the phone to the other ear.
"Why would you say that my sweet princess?" the soft voice made your eyes tear up. Why were you like this?
"Because my ex told me"
"He did?" His jaw clenched as he heard that,
"But it was my fault, i wasn't as invested in having sex with him as he was"
"Because of the heat?"
"Mmmhmmmm"
"What did he say to you?"
"Ummm let's not discuss that lo"
"What did he say?"
"Just that..I was awful in bed and that I needed to show more enthusiasm and partake in the act of pleasing him rather than him doing everything..you know" He got absolutely quiet so you spoke again, maybe you should have kept your mouth shut. Your mouth was one of the reasons why you had trouble keeping the guys interested in you for long.
"I'm sorry..I don't know why I told you that.. please ignore it and can we go back to being naughty?" you chuckled nervously even though your eyes were welled up now because of the embarassement.
"I apologise for going quite on you. I'd love to show you how wrong that scoundrel was about you. It takes two to battle my darling, perhaps he wasn't capable of pleasing a woman as sensual as you are"
You bit on your lips at his words, the slight anger in his voice made you smile though, he was protective about you and it gave you all the butterflies in the stomach, you have never had a feeling like this before "Well I do hope he is wrong though"
"He is, you want to know how I know that?" He smiled
"How?"
"Last night, the way your body responded to me, just thinking about it makes my cock ache for your warmth" he mumbled
"Goshhhhh lokiiiii" you sucked a deep breath in, voice barely a whisper
"And that voice of yours, norns my little love.. I'd do anything for you as long as you're moaning so sweetly for me, as long as you're making those pretty little noises in my ears" he whispered softly and your fingers settled between your legs involuntarily.
"Mmmmmhmmm I'll do anything for you lo.. whatever you ask"
"I know you will.. I know you'd do anything for me"
You sat up as your breathing got heavier. The meeting. Oh god.
And you also had to change your underwear now.
"God I have to gooo" he chuckled as you said that.
"That's a shame"
"I know I'm sorry..that was thrilling..oh wow i need a moment" he chuckled again. He rubbed his cock slowly in order to suppress those sensations you had evoked in him but it was only making it worse so he stopped touching himself.
"Princess?" He wanted to share the dream he had about you two but now wasn't the time, you were already late.
"Mmm?"
"Nothing..I uhh ..you'll miss me?"
"Lokiii I am missing you right now and we are talking, you don't even know how much I'm going to miss you"
His heart fluttered as you said that.
"So will I, and perhaps i will see you tonight"
"Please do and maybe we can umm play with each other again just like last night"
You smiled widely before you hung up, leaving him to stay hard the rest of the day, he sighed as he put the phone down on his chest and then his mouth curved into a smile thinking about the last few minutes.
You really wanted to tell him that you loved him but was it too soon to do that? You had no idea.
“I’m sorry I’m late” you apologized as you spotted him at the restaurant, your mom had mailed a picture of him to you so it was easier to recognise.
“It’s fine I guess, I’m used to such tardiness” he was smiling but you could tell he was annoyed, you didn’t miss the sarcasm in his tone.
“Ummm okay actually I don’t think I got your name yet, my mom told me everything except your name, I’m y/n by the way” you raised your hand forward so he looked at it for a few seconds before he shook it.
“Hello y/n, my name is Doctor Stephen Strange”
You didn't know how to talk to him, when you tried to order something to eat he told you that he had already done it for you so now you had nothing else to do or say.
You sipped on the drink in order to avoid the awkward silence between you two. So this was going soooooo well right? You missed loki, even the pin drop silence was never awkward with him, back when you two were purely friends and he was hiding in your apartment, the conversation between you two never felt forced. Sure you blabbed unnecessarily at times but he always smiled and he never seemed annoyed. You both would often sit on the sofa with your backs resting on the individual armrest and your legs almost touching each other, you'd watch something on your phone and he would read his books, it felt cozy and comfortable.
How the hell did you even stumble upon someone like him?
"Why aren't you eating?" Stephen asked you so you smiled but before you could answer he interrupted you
"Let me guess, you're one of those women aren't you, those who pretend to not eat on dates even though the reality couldn't be farther from it..no offense " Well you took it.
"First of all I love eating but beef steak isn't the idea of a hearty lunch for me" he snickered as he cut himself a piece, the precision he used with his knife was enough to tell you that he indeed was a surgeon.
"You were extremely late, I had to order for us"
"Yeah thank you for not waiting for me to get my opinion, I bet you're one of those men who think they are superior and can decide everything for their women"
"Last time I checked you weren't mine" he winked at you so you rolled your eyes.
"Look I'm only here because my mother forced me to–"
"That's also why I –"
"Stop interrupting me" you cut him off and that felt really nice.
You pointed a finger at him so he went quiet but now you forgot what you were even saying and he used the opportunity to speak again.
"That is exactly why I'm here as well so let's just eat and never see each other again alright?" He said rudely so you nodded.
"Yeah I'd like that"
"Good"
"So New York City, what's it like?" You questioned him and he glared at you,
"I can't just stay quiet, and you're eating awfully slow" he sighed at the statement.
"It's definitely been much worse since the attack"
"The Chitauris?" You asked sheepishly.
"Yeah, isn't it funny how they glorified the man responsible for the whole mess and turned him into an Avenger, best way to redeem a criminal right?" Your jaw clenched as he said that, he didn't even know Loki.
"Do you not watch news, Loki wasn't an accomplice, he was a victim"
"Fantastic story isn't it, heart wrenching, it's so easy to befool the humankind"
You wanted to say so many things but you couldn't even defend him in public, people would think you were just a crazy fan or worse one of those simps who just wanted to fuck the Asgardian god. You did want to do that though.
"So where were you when it happened?" You asked him to change the conversation, hoping he'd keep his resentment to himself.
"In the nearest building performing an extensive and very critical surgery, have to say it was not at all hard to focus with the sounds of grenades going off every few seconds"
"Ohhh..well that's admirable that you didn't feel scared or ran away" he snickered as you said that.
"Yeah, an innocent woman would have died on my table if I had lost my concentration that day and the man responsible for it got away with no remorse or repercussions, he's being celebrated instead"
Okay that was enough.
"Well you don't know that, you don't know what he's going through, how much guilt he carries or how bad it is for him to sleep at night when he's all alone..you don't know him or why he did what he did..what would you do if a powerful entity had influenced you and tortured you for a year like that?" He looked at you, slightly taken aback by the sudden outburst before he snickered condescendingly.
"I see you're one of those"
"Whattt?" You looked at him confused.
"The ones who wants to fuck him"
"You are so judgemental, I bet you judge other people's brains when they're splayed open in front of you"
"Uh-huh by the way Didn't he want to commit mass genocide even before the whole ordeal?"
"Yeah so did Thor, but he's a hero isn't he?" Why you were you fighting with him? You should just leave right?
"Well to be fair I don't think too highly of him either" Leave now.
"You know what this was fun..byye bye..see you never "
You stood up and walked out, he didn't stop you either, you had to cross the road to get to the other side but you heard him calling your name so you stopped like a moron in the middle of the street to turn and look at him, that's when a man with a motorbike came out of nowhere and hit you. You didn't remember much after that, you remembered the sharp pain in your right leg and you remembered seeing Stephen's stupid face before you lost consciousness.
A few hours later you woke up and your head was pounding, when you looked to the side, Stephen was there reading a newspaper,
"Did you perform a brain surgery on me?" You asked him so he raised his eyebrows.
"Do you have one in there because the way you stood there in the middle of the road was foolish"
"That guy came out of nowhere "
"Very well, now that you're awake, I'm gonna leave" he said as he got up so you sat up hurriedly.
"Wait wait how would I get home, oh my god is my leg broken?" You looked at the bandage on your right ankle and your eyes widened. No it can't be, it can't be. Thirty years, you had gone thirty years without a broken bone and you were planning to keep it that way all your life, it can't be broken right?
"I broke my bone, didn't i? " Your eyes welled up so he sighed.
"It's just a sprain, you'll be fine in a week or two"
"A week? I can't not work for a week, they'll fire me" you groaned
"Well you should have thought about that before you–"
"You know what..just shut up okay?"
He rolled his eyes and luckily he agreed to drive you home. He had to assist you to walk though and you didn't really like the idea of being so close to a man you barely knew.
"So whose car is it?" You asked him as he sat you down on the passenger seat.
"Rental"
"Figured"
"Why did you ask if you figured?"
You crossed your arms and didn't respond to him, to avoid the awkwardness you turned the radio on.
Hey I just met you and this is crazy but here's my number so call me maybe
You immediately changed the channel to not give him any sort of wrong signal. He seemed the type to take wrong signals.
My universe will never be the same. I'm glad you came, I'm glad you came.
You bobbed your head back and forth to the beat of the song and he shook his head in disbelief.
It was around 11 at night, how long were you out for? You were surprised he stayed by your side and didn't just flee, maybe it was the doctor in him. Well atleast he wasn't the worst man you have ever met in your life.
God you wanted to talk to Loki, you grabbed your purse and took out your phone but it was discharged completely.
Luckily your building had the lift but he still accompanied you to your apartment, as soon as you opened the door and even though you couldn't see him, you just knew he was there. Loki was there, you could smell his cologne
"Umm would you like a cup of coffee or something?" Please say no..
He looked around the apartment and his face contorted in disgust. Was this your mother disguised as a man? Well you had no idea you would be bringing him back here, this wasn't a date and you were too distracted before the meeting to even think of cleaning the space.
"No thanks. Here's your medicine" he passed you the small prescription bag so you took it from him.
"Well ummm thank you and I'm sorry i won't be able to show you around" you said to him so he rolled his eyes.
"Good, I'm relieved"
An awkward silence and even the worst goodbye handshake later he finally left, you were still on the couch and before you could say anything Loki appeared and locked the main door from inside. His face seemed blotchy, eyes red, cheeks dampened, you could tell he had cried.
He walked towards you and got down on his knees in front of you, then he lifted the right leg up to inspect the injury.
"Lokii"
"Who did this to you ?" He asked you
"Some guy on a bike..It was just an accident"
"That man isn't responsible for this state of yours is he?" He asked you so you shook your head, you cupped his face to make him look at you and his eyes were filled with fear.
"I'm sorry, i would have called but my phone died and ummm I was unconscious "
"Norns y/n" he flinched away from you and stood up, only to pace back and forth in front of you. You were worried that he was angry but then the look on his face was enough to tell you that he was scared, he wasn't able to get in touch with you at all and that must have been terrifying.
"Looo baby" you called out to him and put your hand forward so he took it and sat down next to you on the sofa.
"I'm okay, it's just a sprain"
Well unfortunately you couldn't climb on his lap so you somehow scooted closer to him and hugged him.
"I am sorry darling, I was losing my mind here" his arms wrapped around your tightly and he placed his head down on your shoulder.
"I know I know it's okay i would have been the same"
After a minute or so, he got on his feet again and picked you up in his arms only to lay you down on the sofa again.
"How bad does it hurt?" He asked you and your face scrunched in response, it wasn't bothering you when you came back to consciousness but now you were starting to feel it.
"I think the meds will help"
He sat down on the corner of the sofa and placed your legs on his leg carefully before he grabbed the right one and trailed his fingers all over your ankle, the longer he did it the better you felt.
"Did you just fix me?"
"I wish I could darling but I'm not that kind of God, i can barely lessen the pain and discomfort that comes with it" you smiled as he said that. He was talking as if this wasn't an otherworldly magic in itself.
"How do you do that? I mean how is it possible... like in a scientific way?" He chuckled as you questioned him "I'm sorry I'm on drugs i think"
"No you can ask questions..it's just you're adorable when you do" you giggled at the compliment, he carefully hovered on top of you, avoiding your leg to not hurt you any further and kissed you softly.
"It's just a form of energy being used differently darling"
"Energy?" You looked at him confused so he tucked your hair behind your ears before he kissed your forehead. Everytime he kissed your forehead you couldn't help but giggle.
"Mhhmm In simpler words whenever you see me doing this–" he said as he conjured a flower out of nowhere and gave it to you "I am merely harnessing the cumulative energies from multiple dimensions in order to fetch me whatever I need from my vault" you nodded even though it made no sense to you.
"You're so cute but I don't understand anything" he chuckled and kissed you before he got off the sofa, picked you up again and then laid you down on the bed so you could rest.
"Fancy a cup of tea madame?" You nodded as he asked you.
He made tea for you, he fed you dinner that had to be a takeout because he wasn't even going to attempt to cook and burn down your apartment. You smelled like the hospital and wanted to shower so he helped you get to the bathroom, luckily you had put on a dress for the meeting instead of a jeans so it was easier to take off, you noticed how he had kept his eyes closed like the gentleman that he was when you asked him to take you back to the room while you just had a towel wrapped around your body.
By the time you were in bed again you felt extremely exhausted, the meds were making you feel drowsy already.
"I'm going to abhor leaving you all alone here in the morning" he cooed in your ears so you pecked on his lips.
"Mmmm don't leave me then..stayyy"
"I wish I could princess, I truly wish I could be here for you all the time"
"I know baby it's okay i understand, besides I'll be fine, it's just a sprain"
"How long will it take to heal completely?"
"Two weeks at the most, but I heal fast so one week" you laughed and it warmed his heart.
"Ummm okay I have a proposition for you"
"What?" You smiled because you thought he was going to say something silly to make you laugh again but what he said made you sit up and contemplate, how was this even going to work? Especially with Melissa and those Avengers around.
"Come stay with me at the tower while you're healing"

saving you - peter parker
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: tom!peter x stark!reader
warnings: use of y/n, she/her, swearing, mentions of blood and fighting (scenes used from endgame)
a/n: i love peter parker sm i just HAD to write another blurb (also for my bexi boo mwah)
-
y/n never thought she'd fight a giant purple alien from space, let alone fighting him twice. five years ago she was on titan fighting the alien, then she blipped, alongside half of the world.
five years later she's on the same planet fighting the same purple asshole.
herself and others all came out of different sized portals created by doctor strange. y/n walked out with peter parker, her best friend. she looked around, seeing the army of avengers, ready to fight the battle.
her and peter, and everyone else, got in their positions as they heard steve, "avengers. assemble."
and with those two words, the team of most likely one hundred people ran towards thanos' army.
sam and valkyrie ended up in the sky at some point during the battle, while everyone else mostly stayed on the ground. scott turned huge again since the fight in germany, and immediately started stomping on the evil aliens.
the rest of the avengers started fighting the aliens that remained on the ground. bucky snd rocket shooting them together, with groot branching his arms through the aliens' bodies.
y/n and peter never left each others side as they ran towards the battle. the avengers' goal was to get tony's gaunlet away from thanos once it had all six infinity stones in it. all they had to do was get thanos' gaunlet, easy.
ten minutes pass and most of the avengers are injured while lying on the ground, the only few remaining are tony, steve, thor, peter, y/n, clint, valkyrie and pepper.
dealing with the team of eight they have, they create a plan to beat thanos.
"y/n, sweetheart i know you can fight and i know you can fight well," tony starts, placing his hands on his daughters shoulders, "but i need you to run away, i don't want you anywhere near here when we get the stones, capisce?"
a concerned look shows up on y/n's face, "what? dad, no, i'm not just leaving you guys here. let me he-"
y/n got cut off by tony hugging her, followed by pepper hugging her as well.
the family of three backed up from each other. tony looked back to the rest of the remaining avengers, giving y/n the signal to walk away.
yes, she was going to walk away from the problem, but as she saw her father, and peter start running towards thanos she knew she couldn't just watch.
taking out the ninja stars she has in her suit, she throws them at thanos' wrist to try and get his gaunlet off.
"what- y/n! i told you to run!" tony yells from inside his suit, while blasting thanos.
"i told you, i'm not just leaving you guys!" y/n yells.
tony backs away slightly, before finding clint with the red iron man gauntlet. tony takes it from him and passes it to peter. "peter run!" tony yells before going back to fight with thanos.
y/n watches as peter runs from thanos with her dad's gaunlet.
peter runs as fast as he can before he gets knocked down into a pile of rubble. a giant blue and yellow beam comes down in front of him.
"hi- hello," peter stutters to the blonde woman, "i'm peter parker."
"well peter parker," the woman starts, "you have something for me?"
peter nods as he hands her tony's gaunlet before she flies off.
peter stands up from the rubble, and watches in shock as y/n is on thanos' shoulders trying to fight him.
"y/n!" he yells as he watches thanos throw the poor girl at least 100 yards away. peter immediately runs after to look for her, "um- mr. stark, sir i'm going to try and find y/n."
"oh you better find my daughter alive parker," tony grumbles into the teams shared intercoms.
finally seeing the sight of y/n rolled over onto her side, holding her stomach, peter removes the nano-tech mask from his face.
he rolls y/n over to see the girl with dust and small marks of blood on her face. "hey, hey y/n you gotta wake up. your dad's gonna kill me if you don't," peter laughs, shaking the girl.
"cmon, please wake up."
tears brim peter's eyes, seeing the girl he's fallen in love with get hurt right in front of his eyes.
the only thought going through the boys mind was that he never got to tell her how he felt.
as he talked on his com, his voice was weak. "mr- mr stark i need help! she isn't waking up!"
tony's heart rate drops. disregarding the giant purple alien in front of him, he flies over to where he saw peter run off to. he flies down to the ground to be met with an unconscious y/n in peter's arms.
"friday, read y/n's vitals," tony instructs his ai.
"vitals steady. oxegyn decreased 20%. heartbeat decreased 10%."
"shit," tony mumbles. "you stay with her kid, i have to beat this asshole," he gestures back to thanos. "keep her alive!" tony yells as he flies back to the main fight going on.
peter looks down at y/n again, still with tears threatening to spill over. "y/n," his voice cracks, "please don't leave me."
the tears mentioned before finally spill, leaving peter's cheeks hot and lips trembling. he leans down and presses his lips to hers, while holding her jaw in his hand.
"please, please, please," peter kept mumbling against her lips, tears not decreasing in pace.
peter notices y/n start breathing heavier, he starts shaking her again. "hey, hey cmon, y.n wake up. i cant lose you, i just can't y/n."
peter sighs, "i love you."
y/n starts coughing slightly, before rolling over onto her hands and knees and coughing more than before.
peter immediately starts rubbing his hand up and down her back, "hey, thatta girl," he laughs slightly, glad she's okay, "cough it all up."
"oh my god," y/n gasps, before sitting on her knees on the ground.
"are you okay?" peter asks, keeping his hand on her lower back. y/n only nods, while peter places a kiss on the top of the girls head.
"i love you too," y/n whispers after leaning her head against peter's shoulder.
breaking away from each other, the two teenagers turn around to see a giant multicolored beam shoot up into the sky, yet the two didn't see thanos with the gaunlet at all.
y/n gasps lightly, before running to where the others were. peter followed after, "no, no, no," y/n keeps mumbling to herself as they got closer to the rest of the team.
peter got in front of y/n, incase anything was a threat to them. y/n couldn't see what was going on, but she saw the group surrounding someone lying on the floor.
she looked around, not seeing her father anywhere. a thousand thoughts flooded the girls' mind.
she heard peter talk to someone, but his words were muffled as her brain wouldn't let her think the worst possible solution happened.
pepper holds peter in her arms, comforing the boy, which left a small pathway for y/n to go through.
"dad," y/n whispers, jogging to her father who was leaning against a piece of a broken ship. "dad hey, cmon, get up. we have to go back home."
y/n grabs his hand as she starts crying, she couldn't hold her tears back any longer.
tony looks up at his daughter weakly before placing his other hand on the side of her face, "tell parker he better take good care of you," tony says weakly, making y/n nod and smile softly.
tony leans up with the rest of the energy he has left and kisses y/n's cheek. y/n and the rest of the group watch as tony leans back against the broken ship, and see his arc reactor light dim.
"no, no, no, no," y/n keeps mumbling tapping on the arc reactor.
her heart drops when the light fully turns off. everything around her goes quiet as she leans her forehead on her fathers chest.
this was it. she'd never see him again. never talk to him again. never tell him how her first day of senior year was. never tell him how amazing her first date with peter went. nothing.
pepper lets go of peter to go bid tony a final goodbye. peter helps y/n up off of her father and immediately holds her head to his own chest.
he tries his best to calm her down by cooing to her.
"shhh."
"it'll all be okay."
"you're so strong, you're going to get through this."
"i'll always be here for you."
"i'll always protect you y/n."
y/n lifts her head to look peter in the eyes. "you better not leave me parker," y/n kisses his cheek.
"never in a million years," the boy replies, holding the girl close to him, kissing the top of her head again.

x
This dingy and run-down apartment isn’t the best place you’ve lived in but it’s a roof over your head. Right now, you and Steve will take what you can get. It’s been tough after the fight about the Accords. Tony made half the team fugitives so you and Steve are living outside the country against the law. If you’re caught, the government will treat you like hard-core criminals and lock you up for good.
You’re on your own here.
You take the microwavable food from the kitchen and walk over to the table where Steve is. He hasn’t looked the same since the big fight with Tony. He looks broken, a shell of the man he once was. It breaks your heart to see him this way, and it hurts even more knowing the team is broken up. A team that once stood together to fight what others couldn’t is now disassembled.
“You should eat something,” you say and place the food in front of him.
He looks up at you and gives a half smile before taking a bite. He misses his friends. He hates how the entire situation played out and wishes he could go home.
“How are you feeling?”
“Me? I’m doing alright.”
“I mean with Hydra. No trouble with them?”
“Not since I left Wakanda.”
It’s true. You’ve been free from their mind control for a few years now. It’s been so quiet inside your head, and you welcome the silence even if you didn’t at first. Bucky hasn’t been with you two since the Avengers broke up, but you keep tabs on each other since he has the same fears as you. What if Hydra got ahold of you again? Could they put that back inside your head? Could you be a puppet again?
Zemo hasn’t been seen since you let him go. You haven’t had the desire to go after him like you promised you would. Seeing the fear on his face when you caught him was punishment enough. He will always be looking over his shoulder for you since you can come from anywhere, and that’s enough to satisfy you right now.
“How are the others? You were gone all day,” you ask and eat.
“Buck is doing as well as he can. He’s still having nightmares. Nat and Sam are helping him through it. Wanda and Vision are still off the grid. Nat has regular check-ups with them so I’m not too worried.”
“I’m glad she has someone like Vision. He gave up what he believed in to be with her. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.”
“I know it’s rough right now, but we’ll find a better place than this. I’ll give it a few years before we can go home.”
“Believe it or not, this isn’t much different than the missions I went on. Bucky and I used to stay in places like this. Though, if we’re going to continue to live here, then we need a proper bed instead of a mattress on the floor.”
Steve laughs at this. “We’ll get one together tomorrow.”
After dinner, you two head to bed together. It’s another rough night but you make the most of it. In the morning, Natasha calls the phone you reserved for emergencies only. Wanda and Vision are in trouble. Bruce and Tony are in trouble in New York. Apparently, someone named Thanos is on a mission to get all six Infinity Stones, and one of them happens to be in Vision’s head.
Vision and Wanda are located in Scotland so that’s where you and Steve meet up with Nat, Bucky, and Sam. Two of Thanos’ children are after the stone in Vision’s head, but they can’t take on all six of you at once. Wanda and Vision did most of the fighting before you were able to get to them, so your team made the finishing move that caused one of them to be stabbed by his own spear. They left back into their alien ship before leaving.
“What the hell is going on? Who were those people?” you ask.
“I don’t know but they want the stone. Vision has been injured,” Wanda panics.
“What are we going to do?” you ask Steve.
“We go home.”
Looks like you’re going home after months of leaving it behind. You’re not sure what you’re going to walk into when you touch back down in New York, but you have to be prepared for anything. However, nothing prepared you for what you came across. Dr. Strange, Tony, and Peter have been sucked into an alien spaceship that was trying to take the time stone.
It doesn’t matter who you’re talking to or not, Earth needs defending from everyone available.
Thanos tried to get Vision’s stone once and failed, so you know he will be back with more reinforcements later. The only place on Earth that might be able to handle the fight is Wakanda. They are more than happy to assist your team in the fight that is likely to come.
“How are we going to do this? They’re not going to stop until they get that stone.”
“What if we remove it from Vision? He’s more than the stone, anyway. Can he survive without it?” you ask Shuri.
“It’s not going to be easy but I think I can separate the stone from him. It’s going to take time.”
“How much time do you need?” Steve asks.
“As much as you can give me.”
“Alright, Wanda, you gotta stay up here and protect the stone. You’re the only one with the power to do so. The rest of us are going to be on the field. They’re not going to go easy on us so we aren’t either. This isn’t a back alley. This is war,” Steve says.
“You heard him. Let’s go,” T’Challa says and walks toward the door. “Someone, get his man a shield!”
You along with everyone else line up on the battlefield just as alien ships come crashing to Earth. They try to hit the Wakanda barrier but explode on impact since they can’t get through it. Most of the ships land outside of the barrier, and a bunch of alien dogs come rushing out savagely. They try to get through the barrier but are killing themselves when the barrier slices right through them. For every five that are killed, one of them gets through.
This is going to be the fight of your life, and you channel your inner Vixen for this fight. You use every weapon at your disposal, every skill Hydra beat into you, and every gun that is handed to you. You’re giving the aliens everything you’ve got but it doesn’t seem to be enough. Only when Thor comes from wherever he was, does the fight seem fair. He has a new axe that replaced the hammer his sister broke, and he uses it to kill as many aliens as he can.
At one point, Wanda is forced out of her hiding space to help in the fight, and that’s when Thanos strikes. He sends the two aliens whom Wanda fought in Scotland to grab the stone. Most Wakandans stay in the field to keep most of the aliens busy while your team heads to the other side of the place where Vision is.
“Hey, are you okay?” you ask Vision and go to his side.
“He’s coming whether we like it or not. You should all get out of here.”
“We’re not leaving you. Eyes up, everyone,” Steve says.
It didn’t take long for Thanos to come with the time stone. He must have persuaded Dr. Strange to give it to him, but it’s unlikely he did it without violence. Steve tries to fight Thanos and loses. Natasha and Bruce try and they fail. T’Challa tries and fails. Bucky, Groot, and Rocket try and fail. You try and fail.
The only person stopping Thanos from getting the stone is Wanda, and she uses her magic to keep him back as she uses her magic to destroy the stone. It’s breaking her heart to hurt the one she loves but it has to be done. The stone must be destroyed so that Thanos can’t use it.
However, he has the time stone so after Wanda successfully destroys the stone, Thanos puts it back together just so he can steal it. He kills Vision right in front of Wanda and acquires the stone. He does what he set out to do years earlier.
He snaps his fingers.
Thor managed to lodge his axe into Thanos’ chest but that doesn’t stop Thanos from actually snapping his fingers, and then he disappears using the space stone. Your team is left to pick up the pieces after the big war.
“Is that it? Did we lose?” you ask and stand up.
Silence befalls Wakanda. Thanos got what he wanted. There is no need for the fight any longer. The alien dogs that are still alive retreat. Something doesn’t feel right. Thanos wanted to wipe out half of the universe.
“Steve?” Bucky says.
You and Steve look at him and see him turn to dust. You look to your right and see Groot turn to dust. Wanda turns to dust. T’Challa turns to dust. You look down and see your hand start to turn to dust.
“Steve?” you gasp and look at him.
“Y/N? No!”
“I love y--”
You turn to dust completely, leaving Steve and the remaining Avengers all alone.

The chaos of the battle sounds roar around you and your team as you continue to fight diligently.
Thanos and his army have been battling the Avengers for the remainder of the Infinity Stones for weeks, and it's finally come to a head here in Wakanda.
You're standing between Steve and Bucky, taking down enemy after enemy alongside them. The three of you work effortlessly together like a well-oiled machine.
You toss Bucky a magazine for his rifle and swipe his knife from his weapon belt, "I'll give it back later, Buck. I'm out of ammo."
He turns to you and slides the magazine home before firing over your shoulder. "Promise me if we get separated that you'll come back to me, doll."
You kiss him hard, trying not to think about how this could be the last time you get to feel his soft lips against yours. "I promise, baby."
Steve hits the ground next to you and you stab the alien in the neck that's on top of him before pulling your best friend to his feet.
"The lab's been breached!" He shouts both to you and into his comms. "We need to get to Vision!"
The three of you take off towards the woods, knowing that's where he'd go. Natasha, Bruce, T'challa, and Wanda all follow suit and soon the six of you are surrounding a wounded Vision doing whatever you can to ensure his and Wanda's safety.
You know from the way she and him are talking that he's not making it through this. There wasn't enough time for Shuri to extract the mind stone and also spare his life force. You swallow the lump in your throat and continue to kill anything that's a threat.
This is, by far, the most brutal battle you've ever fought, and you can't help how exhausted you feel. Like Natasha, you don't have any super-soldier serum or magic running through your veins. There's only so much you can take.
It's starting to pay off though. The amount of aliens surrounding your small group of heroes is dwindling, and soon Steve stabs the last one in the chest before it falls to the ground lifeless.
You don't have time to celebrate, because in the next second, a portal opens and Thanos steps through it. You eye the gauntlet on his arm, your heart sinking to your stomach when you see that he has all of the Infinity Stones. All except the one Vision has on his head...the mind stone.
Steve and Bruce charge forward, immediately trying to disarm him, but they're tossed aside as if they weighed nothing.
Thanos uses the stones to trap Bruce into the side of a rock wall, before grabbing T'challa by the neck and throwing him to the ground. He isn't moving and your heart drops to your stomach. He then turns to your best friend and pushes back against his hands as he tries to remove the golden glove. Bucky shoots bullet after bullet at the purple giant, but it does nothing to deter him.
In the next second, you see him grab Steve by the armor and punch him in the face. His head snaps back and he falls to the ground with a sickening thud.
"STEVE!" You scream and try and go to him, but Bucky grabs your wrist, pulling you back into his chest. Tears cloud your vision as you struggle in his hold. "No! No, let me go! Steve! We have to help him, Buck...we have...please...he needs..."
"Y/N... listen to me, okay?" Bucky's voice cracks, tears shining in his eyes as he looks down at you. "He's gone. We have to focus, baby. We have to finish this, for the world...we have to finish this for Steve."
Thanos charges at the rest of you and Bucky pushes you behind him, racking the slide back on his gun and firing every last bullet he has left to defend the two of you. He knows it's not going to work, but he has to try.
The gauntlet whirs and the rest of you surrounding Vision and Wanda are scattered along the forest floor. Even though you and the remainder of your team aren't there to defend them anymore, she was still able to remove the stone, it shatters into tiny pieces at her feet. Your heart breaks for her as she falls to her knees beside Vision's body.
"This is no time to mourn," Thanos declares and raises his gloved arm. It glows green, and a few seconds later all of you are back to where you were two minutes ago. Steve, T'challa, and Bruce are all alive and well, and although you're more than relieved to have them back, your happiness is short-lived.
Thanos reaches out and grasps the now intact mind stone and rips it out of Vision's head. Once more you have to watch as he falls lifeless to the ground at Wanda's feet. He adds the stone to the gauntlet and his whole body glows as it ascends to full power.
Just as you're about to charge at him, a blast of lightning strikes Thanos, and Thor's axe lodges in the center of his chest.
"You die for that." Thor stares menacingly at him as he shoves the weapon in deeper.
Thanos winces and looks up at him, a slight smirk on his face.
"You should have gone for the head."
He snaps his fingers and a blinding light billows out around all of you. Thor grabs onto Thanos's armor and shakes him.
"What did you do?!"
He doesn't answer and instead opens another portal, disappearing through it like he was never even there to begin with. The only evidence is the small bit of blood on the end of Thor's axe.
You immediately take off running to Steve, wrapping your arms around him and hugging him tightly.
"I...I thought we lost you..."
"I think you did for a moment, but whatever Thanos did with the stones must have reversed it."
You look up at him happily and turn to look at Bucky. He's standing a few feet from you with a scared look on his face. Your smile falls and you start toward him
"Buck? Baby, what's wrong?"
"Y/N...Steve..." He locks eyes with you and to your horror, his body begins to turn to dust.
You break into a sprint, but by the time you get to where he was, it's too late. The only thing left of him is his weapon and a pile of ash.
"BUCKY?! No, no, no...no...come back...baby come back!" Your hands shake as you gather a handful of dust, it falls through your fingers like sand.
Steve comes up behind you and tries to pull you to your feet, but you rip away from him, loud sobs shaking your body.
"Sweetheart, I'm sorry...but we can't stay here. It's not safe."
"How can you say that?!" You look up at him with tear-stained cheeks. "I'm not leaving him, Steve. We have to help him! We...we have...I...I can't lose him!"
Natasha picks up Bucky's gun and slings it over her shoulder while Steve pulls you to your feet. He cradles your face in his hands and looks seriously into your devastated eyes.
"Honey, I swear on my life that we will bring him back, okay? I don't care how long it takes...I don't care what I have to do. I'll get him back for you, but you have to come with us now, alright?"
You nod, your lower lip trembling as you take one last look at where the love of your life last stood.

••••••
The dry dirt crunched beneath your feet as you squinted your eyes to try and see better in the dark. The open area around you was filled with nothing but a deafening silence as you desperately tried to find some source of light, but you couldn’t see anything. A cool wind whipped at your skin and made the drawstrings on your jacket flap back and forth in front of you, the dry air burning your chapped lips.
Your hands were stretched out at your sides as you walked slowly, as you stepped forward you moved your arms in front of you, that way if you were about to run into something you would feel it first. You felt like you were swimming through a pool of sludge, your legs refusing to move easily and acting as though they were pushing through thick mud. Each step you took echoed like you were walking through a long empty hallway, the soft thumping of your shoes slowly changing from crunching on dirt to squeaking slightly as though you were asking across a basketball court.
You could tell you were no longer outside, the air around you had shifted to that of a more confined space instead of a wide-open area. You stopped walking and turned your head to look behind you even though you couldn’t see anything. Kneeling, you pressed your hand to the floor beneath your feet and felt the smooth surface; tile you quickly realized.
Then you heard it.
It was faint at first, barely audible heavy breathing coming from somewhere in front of you. It sounded like someone had just finished running a mile and was panting to try and catch their breath.
“Hello?” You called out, your voice echoing back to you just like your footsteps did.
The only response you got was the breathing stopping and going completely silent.
You stood back to your feet and stared ahead, willing yourself to make out any kind of figure in the darkness. Normally when you’re plunged into darkness like this, your mind will make up all kinds of shapes and faces to try and give you something to see. But now, you saw only the inky black that blocked everything from view.
Before you could say anything else a loud scream erupted from somewhere in front of you, the sound of it jarring you and making you freeze in place as you lifted your hands to cup over your ears. The screaming continued as you fell to your knees and tried to block it out. You screamed nearly as loud as the one coming from the darkness as your head began to feel like it was splitting in two.
The screaming went silent, the noise cutting off abruptly just as the lights turned on and the room filled with bright blinding lights.
You squeezed your eyes shut to block out the lights.
“You did this.” Someone hissed, their voice laced with venom causing you to open your eyes.
The lights around you were so bright they were painful, your eyes straining to see the figure in front of you.
You blinked rabidly until you were able to actually hold your eyes open, the sight in front of you somehow hurting more than the bright lights.
“Tony?” Your voice cracked as you tried to stand only to find that you were now restrained by the metal armor covering your body, the suit actively working against you to stop you from moving and running to your brother.
“This is your fault.” Tony paced around in front of you and gestured to his mangled arm and face, the effects of the infinity stones lingering on his body. As he walked, the boots of his own armor made a sharp tapping noise against the tiled floor.
The room around you resembled a parking garage with the large cement pillars standing in rows along the vast open space. The floors were covered in polished white tiles that reflected the bright lights hanging along the ceiling, the white walls only amplifying the bright space around you and making you squint.
You struggled against the armor around you to try and break free of it, even though you knew there was no point in trying because it was impossible, “Tony, you’re alive.” Tears were streaming down your face now.
Tony stared down his nose at you, almost like he was disgusted to even look at you, “No, I’m not. I’m dead.” He walked closer and knelt in front of you, “I’m dead and you did nothing to stop it because you were too busy swapping spit with HYDRA’s lap dog to care.” He narrowed his eyes in a way that made him look nothing like Tony; nothing like your brother.
You shook your head only for it to be stilled by invisible hands grabbing the back of your head, “You’re not Tony.” You said more to yourself, the words a reassurance to yourself that he was not your brother.
The man in front of you pursed his lips, “Oh please, if any of us it the fraud it's you.” He stood and waved his hand in your direction, “Spending time with your brother’s wife, with his daughter, all as a desperate attempt to block out that guilt that eats away at you. You abandoned your brother; the only family you had left.”
The hands holding your head in place slid around your neck and began squeezing as the man scowled, his face twisting up into a smile at the sight of you struggling to breathe. You fought as hard as you could to move but it was useless, the hand around your throat only squeezed tighter making the corner of your vision begin to darken.
“You’re a traitor to your own blood.” He spat your name and watched your eyes droop.
You stared down at the floor under you and caught a glimpse of the hand around your neck, the familiar silver metal glistening under the white lights making your heart sink.
Your heart was racing when you opened your eyes, the warm dim light of the lamps in between the two beds a stark difference from the cool ones that had surrounded you just seconds ago. Your eyes bounced around the hotel room until they landed on the man with a tight grip on both of your shoulders, his blue eyes staring down at you filled with worry as he said your name repeatedly.
“There you go, open those eyes up for me darlin’,” Bucky said while gently coaxing you out of the nightmare, “It was just a dream.”
You blinked a few times and immediately pulled away from him, his hands resting on your shoulders making you think you were still in that room being held down. You stumbled out of bed while shoving him away from you, a hurt expression flashing across his face for a split second before he saw you rushing for the open bathroom door.
Throwing your staggering body against the door to push it open you stumbled inside and fell to the floor in front of the toilet as bile quickly rose in your throat. You dropped to your knees and lifted the toilet seat up mere moments before you emptied the contents of your stomach into the bowl.
You barely even noticed Bucky sitting down beside you on the floor as you heaved into the toilet. Tears burned at the corners of your eyes and your hands clenched into tight fists, you hated throwing up so much.
You squeezed your eyes shut and felt a few tears drip down your cheeks, your throat burning as you inhaled slowly to try and catch your breath.
“All done?” Bucky asked quietly while standing to his feet.
You nodded without saying a word and reached up to pull the toilet lid down and flush it.
“I'll be right back okay?”
Another nod from you as you held up a thumb, your eyes still closed and the heel of your hand now pressing into your cheek with your elbow resting on top of the toilet.
You listened to Bucky walk out of the bathroom, you had no idea what he was doing but you could hear him rustling around in the room for a few moments before he came back in.
Bucky flipped on the light and you immediately opened your eyes and shook your head, “Turn the light off.” You muttered, your voice hoarse from throwing up moments before.
Even though you could see the confusion displayed on his face, he listened to you and turned the light off before dropping back down onto the floor in front of you.
The bright lights in the bathroom looked too much like the ones in your dream.
You leaned back away from the toilet and moved back across the cool tiled floor until you hit the side of the bathtub. Bucky was sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of you watching you with cautious eyes, the metal of his arm shining in the dark room making you stare at it.
He had been choking you in the dream, you knew it wasn't him but you couldn't pull your gaze off his arm.
“Here, drink this.” He handed you a bottle of water, that must have been what he went to grab a moment ago.
You nodded and thanked him softly while you opened the bottle. You down nearly the entire bottle in one go, the cold liquid washing the bad taste out of your mouth and the burning out of your throat.
“You were screaming in your sleep,” Bucky muttered as he watched you set the bottle down beside you.
“Sorry,” You breathed, “Didn't mean to wake you up.” You avoided his gaze as you drank another long sip of the water.
Bucky shifted and moved across the floor so he was sitting closer to you, “You didn’t, I was already awake.” He pulled one knee up and rested his arm on top of it.
You furrowed your brows.
After Bucky had dropped the info bomb of his plan to break Zemo out of jail, you had both stayed up for another two hours while you listened to his whole plan and also tried to convince him not to go through with it. But, in the end you knew he was onto something and he was right; Zemo knew more about HYDRA and Super Soldiers than any of you, if there was one person who would be able to help you it was him and you doubted he would help from inside his cell.
“You wanna talk about it?” He asked quietly, “your dream I mean.”
You balled your hands into fists and stared down at the floor, “You know the kind of dreams that feel so real it's almost like they're a memory instead of a dream?”
He stayed silent for a moment, “You know I do.”
If there was anyone who understood that, it was Bucky. His mind was plagued with ghosts from his past; figurative and literal ghosts. You knew most of his nights were spent wide awake because of the things that haunted him, the things that played on a loop in his mind to ensure he never forgot the things he was forced to do.
“I was in a room, it was pitch black at first and I couldn’t see anything,” you began explaining while picking at the skin around your cuticles, “then all the lights came on, they were so bright it hurt to keep my eyes open.” You cringed at the memory of the lights that were burned into your mind, “Tony was there, but it wasn't really Tony. He said it was my fault he died.” You looked up at Bucky who was still watching you from his spot on the floor.
“You know that’s not true.” He frowned, his eyes darting across your face.
You forced a smile, “Then why do I feel so guilty about it?” you wiped at your eyes with the palm of your hand, warm tears pooling at the edges of your eyes as you tried hard to keep them from falling, “why does it still hurt so much when I remember he's gone?”
Bucky looked lost; like he had no idea what to say to you or what to do to make you feel better.
One of your hands moved to your chest and grabbed a fist full of your sweatshirt, your chest rising and falling rapidly as tears started to freely flow down your cheeks.
You were too caught up in your own emotions to notice Bucky standing and moving over toward you, and you only realize it when he was grabbing your arm and slowly pulling you to stand in front of him.
“Come ‘ere.” He muttered while pulling you into his arms and holding you close to his chest, just like you had done for him back at the police station.
You loosed a shakey breath against his chest, your body still tense as he moved his metal arm around you and began slowly running his hand up and down along your back. The small motion was enough to make you relax, and also the gentle push you needed to let the dam burst and the tears flow.
Closing your fists around his shirt, you held onto him as tight as you could while sobbing into his chest. Bucky’s hand moved up to cup the back of your head, his thumb moving along your scalp while he shushed you quietly.
Your eyes hurt; the aftermath of all the crying you had done the night before leaving you with swollen and puffy eyelids, the physical signal to everyone who knew you that you had cried your eyes out. Sam had been watching you warily since you got off the plane in Germany, you could tell he wanted to ask you what was wrong and you were thankful that he didn’t.
It was weird, you had taken Bucky’s place as the tense quiet one of the group while he had been more talkative than you had ever seen him, you were almost positive it had something to do with his plan to break Zemo out of prison, he was nervous but would never admit it.
While you had stayed at the back of the group as you walked through the streets of Berlin, you noticed the way Bucky walked so he was always able to see you; always able to keep an eye on you. His metal hand clenched and unclenched at his side as he walked, his eyes glancing over at you every few minutes to watch your face carefully.
The two of you had stayed up way later than you should have, neither of you getting much sleep after your interaction in the bathroom. You had managed to get a few hours of sleep on the plane to Berlin and so had Bucky, the indents on his cheek from his sleeve telling you as much.
You still didn’t like his plan, and you had told him as much at least a dozen times now but it didn’t change his mind. He didn’t want Sam knowing, for obvious reasons, so you hadn’t told him. He would find out soon enough after all.
Sam led the way into the correctional facility, his head held high and his back tense as he marched up to the front desk and let them know why he was there, they were expecting him. Sam had called ahead the night before to get a meeting set up with Zemo, he used some of his pull with the government to get it set up which made things a little easier.
Just when you thought you couldn’t be any more on edge, the three of you were being led down a brightly lit hallway toward Zemo’s cell.
Bucky noticed how tense you were, your eyes focusing up on the fluorescent lights lining the ceiling and slowed his pace to walk directly beside you, “What’re you thinkin’ about?” He asked while bumping his arm against yours, his eyes staying forward as he spoke.
“You know he’s gonna use the words right? He has them memorized and I doubt a little time behind bars has made him forget.” You glanced over at him, your brows lowering as you watched him for a reaction.
The only movement you saw in his face was his jaw clenching, “The trigger words don’t work anymore, you know that.” He looked down at the floor and moved his eyes over to you.
“I know…” you nodded and trailed off, “He’s gonna try to get under your skin.”
“I’ll be fine, I promise.”
Somehow his words didn’t make you any less worried.
The officer leading you three down the hall stopped and turned to face you, “He’s just through that corridor.” He gestured ahead to the metal door.
Bucky sighed, “Alright, give us a sec.”
The man nodded and walked to the door before walking inside.
Bucky turned to Sam, “I’m gonna go in alone.”
“What? Why?” Sam crossed his arms.
“You do know you’re an Avenger right?” You raised a brow, “You know he’s sensitive about that.”
Sam’s gaze snapped over in your direction, “You’re an Avenger too.” He narrowed his eyes.
“I’m not going in.” You deadpanned, “And I’m not an Avenger.” You muttered the last part under your breath.
Sam rolled his eyes and looked away from Bucky before speaking again, “Even so, it’s not like you two are known frolickin’ in the sun together.”
“He was obsessed with HYDRA, we have a history together. Trust me, I got it.” You knew most of the reason Bucky wanted to go in alone was so he could set his plan in motion, the plan you were still hesitant about but had agreed to help with nonetheless.
Bucky didn’t let Sam say anything else before he walked away, his shoulders pushed back and oddly relaxed as he walked up to the door and was let inside.
You sighed, still reluctant to help break someone out of prison.
“Come on Sam.” You turned on your heel and started off back down the hallway in the direction you had just come from.
You didn’t wait for him to follow you, nor did you look back to see if he was.
“What? Where are we going?” You could hear the confusion lacing his words as his footsteps sounded behind you.
You said nothing.
Sam followed you, asking questions the entire way out of the building. You continued to not answer his questions as you walked around the building to the closed auto body shop that sat across the road from the large prison, the place where if everything went according to plan, Zemo would come out.
You lead Sam into the dark building while he once again asks questions, this time about why you had the keys to the place which you also ignored. You waved off his barrage of questions and lead him down to the basement of the building where several cars sat up on lifts, the place Bucky would be meeting you. There were a few cars parked around you, one of which you used to lean back against and push your feet out in front of you, Sam stood across from you with his arms crossed over his chest and his brows set in a frown.
“What the hell are we doing here?” He asked once again.
You raised. Brow, “Learnin’ a lesson in patience apparently.”
He rolled his eyes once again, “Okay fine, how about you tell me what’s wrong then?”
“What? Aside from the fact that I haven’t gotten a proper night's sleep in weeks, I’m hungry, Bucky’s about to do something insane, and I feel like my entire life is falling apart?” You scowled, “Everything is just peachy Sam.”
You knew you were being harsh, and you knew Sam was only trying to help, but opening up and talking about your feelings wasn’t something you were good at. You never had been good at it.
Sam’s gaze softened and he spoke your name quietly, sympathy dripping from his words as he stared over at you.
You sighed, “I’m fine.” You lied through your teeth and put on a forced smile, “I am.”
You were thankful when Sam decided not to push the subject and simply let it go, except for one thing, “What do you mean Bucky is about to do something stupid?”
“I wanna break Zemo out of prison.” Bucky’s voice sounded from behind you.
The look on Sam’s face was almost comical, his eyes went wide and he nearly choked on air as he stared at the Super Soldier who walked up beside you with a look of deadly calm across his face.
The argument that ensued next should not have been as humorous as it was, but you couldn’t help but bite back a smile as you watched the two men butt heads. Bucky began explaining to Sam that you all had no leads, no possible ideas on where to go from here and you had eight Super Soldiers on the loose with no idea who they got the serum from. All the while Sam was slowly beginning to put the pieces together on the fact that Bucky was actually breaking Zemo out of prison and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
You knew every part of Bucky’s plan, he had told it to you four times over back at the hotel while trying to convince you it was the right course of action. Sam, however, knew none of it. So, when Bucky walked up to him and crossed his arms before asking if he could walk him through a hypothetical, Sam’s eyes went wide.
“What did you do?” Sam stepped back slightly, his eyes flickering to you, “What did he do Stark?”
You shrugged while Bucky began speaking, “I didn’t do anything.”
Sam wasn’t an idiot, he knew exactly what was going on.
“The weakest point in any system isn’t the software or the hardware, its the meat ware, the human element.” You cringed at his choice of words, “Now, in this lock-up, it’s nine to one, prisoners to guards. And if two prisoners start fighting, then the protocol says four guards have to respond.”
“So why would two prisoners randomly start fighting at that moment?” Sam interrupted Bucky.
You could see a small grin playing on Bucky’s lips, “Who knows? There could be many reasons…”
One of the reasons being a prisoner was slipped a note telling him someone was going to try and kill him tonight and that he needed to kill him first.
“The point is, these things escalate.” Bucky continued down his *hypothetical* situation, “Lock-down procedures would have to be initiated, and with all those bodies flying around left and right, wouldn’t be hard to slip down a hallway or two.” You could practically see Sam about to combust, “and if the fire alarms got tripped while all of this was going on, someone could use the chaos to their advantage.”
“I don’t like how casual you’re bein’ about this, it’s unnatural.” Sam narrowed his eyes again, “And where are we, man?” He gestures around to the repair shop around him.
Just then, a door opened and closed in the distance, the sound echoing through the dark room around you causing all of you to look in the direction it had come from. The silhouette of a man appeared on the other side of the plastic curtain hanging over a doorway, and then Zemo walked through wearing a prison guard uniform.
“Woah woah woah, what are you doing here?” He lunged forward only to be stopped by Bucky putting a hand on his chest.
“Sam just listen to him.” You spoke up as you kept your eyes on Zemo who was approaching the three of you.
Sam pointed to you, “You knew about this?”
You didn't say anything to confirm or deny it, but he already knew you did.
“Look, Sam, I didn’t want to tell you because I knew you wouldn’t let this happen.” Bucky raised his voice as Sam walked away from him and threw his arms up in the air.
“What did you do man?”
“We need his help, Sam.” You pushed forward off of the car.
“Um, if I may-“ Zemo spoke up only to be cut off by all three of you yelling ‘no’ at once.
The man almost looked offended but simply nodded and muttered ‘apologies’ under his breath.
“I really think I’m invaluable.” Zemo spoke up again.
“Shut up.” Sam snapped again, “Look, if we’re gonna do this, you don’t make a move without our permission, got it?”
Zemo nodded.
“Alright, Zemo.” You tilted your head up to stand as tall as you could and glared at the convict, “Where do we start?”
Of all the places you thought Zemo would take you, the last place you had suspected was a large garage on a private airstrip, the garage was packed full of expensive-looking vintage and sports vehicles. The sight reminded you of your brother's garage with his brightly colored vehicles that he would sometimes let you drive, under the condition that you swore on your life not to scratch any of them. You only scratched one and never told him about it.
“Well great,” Sam groaned as he followed you all into the garage, “first prison break, and now grand theft auto.”
You laughed under your breath as you run your finger along the dust-covered paint of the sleek red sports car, “Dare I ask where you got these all from?”
“These are all mine.” Zemo glanced over his shoulder at you as he walked up to a gold-colored car and pulled the back door open, “Collected by family over the generations.”
Sam and Bucky walked away from Zemo to look at some of the other cars littering the space as the man continued to speak.
“I spent years hunting down people HYDRA recruited to recreate the serum. Because once it's out there, someone can create an army of people…” he pulled a pile of clothes out of the backseat of one of the cars, “Like the Avengers.” His eyes skipped over to you and you simply glared back, “I ended the Winter Solider program once before I have no intention of leaving my work unfinished.” He grabbed a bag and slung it over his shoulder.
Bucky sent a cautious glance your way, a silent message passing between the two of you, ‘I don’t like this any more than you do.’
“To do this, we will have to scale a ladder of lowlifes.”
Sam scoffed, “Well join the party, we’ve already started.”
“First stop, is a woman named Selby.” Zemo walked away from the three of you and headed toward the door on the far side of the garage, “Mid-level fence I still have a line on. From there, we climb.”
“I hate climbing.” You grumbled and fell into step beside Bucky as he followed Zemo.
Zemo leads the three of you out of the garage and onto the airstrip where a pristine white jet was waiting for you all, the engines were already running and a man was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for you when you walked up.
The cars had been chump change to this, you had not expected Zemo to have an entire private jet in his arsenal, yet here it sat.
Bucky handed his sunglasses over to you when he noticed you squinting, the small gesture making you pause and smile before slipping the dark glasses onto your face.
“So, all this time you’ve been rich?” Sam gawked at the jet in front of him.
“I’m a baron Sam, my family was royalty before your friends destroyed my country.” Zemo walked up to the old man waiting at the bottom of the steps.
You turned to Sam and gave him a lopsided grin, “Yeah Sam, he’s a baron.”
Bucky chuckled and walked past you both to follow Zemo up the stairs into the jet. You followed Bucky and made sure to thank the man at the bottom of the stairs who gave you a polite smile. Once you were all on board the plane and in your seats the pilot took off and you were on your way to an unknown location.
You were sitting across from Bucky with your feet stretched out in front of you, the toes of your shoes bumping against the sides of Bucky’s boots as the plane shook slightly and lifted from the runway. Between leaving the police station and getting to the airstrip, you had pulled the metal bands out of your bag and slid them onto your wrists. The cool metal felt like it was branding you as you twisted one of them around your arm and stared out the window to your left, they felt heavy.
Sam was sitting across from Zemo, his eyes watching the man carefully as he exchanged a few words with his butler. Sam still wasn’t happy with this plan but now he had no choice but to go along with it.
Zemo sipped on the flute of champagne he had been given, his mouth turning up at the taste of the warm liquid, “You don’t know what it’s like to be locked up in a cell.” He said before pausing, “Oh, that’s right, you do.”
You pulled your attention away from the clouds outside the window and looked over at Zemo, “Where are we going?” You raised a brow at the man.
Zemo ignored your question in favor of reading whatever was in the book he held in his lap, “I’m sorry, I was just fascinated by this.” He pursed his lips and continued to read, “I don’t know what to call it, but this part seems to be important. Who is Nakajima?”
Bucky moved faster than you could blink and lunged at Zemo, his metal hand clamping down around his throat as he leaned in close and growled, “You touch that again, I’ll kill you.” I wasn’t a threat, it was a promise.
You stood from your seat and moved to grab Bucky’s shoulder and pull him away from Zemo, not because you didn’t want Zemo dead; you did. But because you needed him alive for at least a little bit longer.
“We need him alive Buck.” You cautioned as he grabbed the small notebook from Zemo and let you pull him back to his chair.
Bucky’s stare never left Zemo even as he sat down in his seat and leaned against the wall, the look in his eyes enough to kill Zemo on the spot.
“So, the Stark can tame the Soldat.” Zemo said while looking between you and Bucky, “Interesting.”
You crossed one of your legs over your knee, “I’m not taming anybody.” You grumbled.
“I am sorry James, I understand that list of names.” Zemo wisely changed the subject and nodded apologetically to the fuming man across from you, “People you’ve wronged as the Winter Soldier.”
“Don’t push it.” Bucky snapped.
Bucky's hand was closed tight around the small book, so tight you were worried he might crumple it in half.
“I’ve seen that book before, it was Steve’s when he came out of the ice.” Sam pointed out which only seemed to make Bucky tense up even further, “I told him about Trouble Man, he wrote it in that book. Did you hear it? What’d you think?”
Bucky looked over him with a blank expression, “I like forties music, so…”
“And Hozier, you like him too.” You said with a shrug and you swore Bucky’s cheeks turned a light shade of pink.
Sam’s jaw dropped, “Really? You like Hozier and not Marvin Gaye?”
Bucky looked down at the book in his hand and flipped to one of the pages before turning it around, on the page was a small collection of artists you had scribbled down when he promised he would listen to them. Among the list was Hozier, and a few other bands and artists you loved. The only one of them he had ever gotten back to you about was Hozier, and that was only because he said he liked one of the songs you were playing while he was at your apartment a few months ago.
“I never said I didn’t like Marvin Gaye.” Bucky clenched his jaw.
“It is a masterpiece James,” Zemo started, “Complete. Comprehensive. It captures the African-American experience.”
Sam once again stared blankly at Zemo, “He’s outta line, but he’s right.” Sam glanced between Zemo and Bucky, “everyone loves Marvin Gaye.”
“I like Marvin Gaye.” Bucky said, his voice letting you know he was already done with this conversation.
“Steve adored Marvin Gaye.” Sam sank down in his seat and Bucky flinched slightly at his words.
The subtle motion went unnoticed by Sam and Zemo, but not by you.
“You must have really looked up to Steve.” Zemo pointed out as he looked in front of him at Sam, “But I realized something when I met him. The danger with people like him, America’s Super Soldiers, we put them on pedestals.”
“Watch it, baron.” You narrowed your eyes at him from where you sat.
He just shrugged and continued, “They become symbols, icons. And then we start to forget about their flaws, from there cities fly, movements are forged and wars are fought.” He set his glass down in front of him, “you remember that don’t you James? As a young soldier sent to Germany to fight a mad icon. Do we want to live in a world full of people like the Red Skull?”
No one said a thing.
“That is why we are going to Madripoor.”
Bucky shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
You furrowed your brows and looked from Bucky to Zemo, “What’s Madripoor?”
“Yeah, you talk about it like it's Skull Island or something.” Sam joined in your confusion.
“It’s an island nation in the Indonesian archipelago, it was a pirate sanctuary back in the eighteen hundreds.” Bucky sighed, you could tell he wasn’t a fan of the place.
“It’s kept its lawless ways. But we cannot exactly walk in as ourselves.” Zemo informed you all.
“What the heck does that mean?” You leaned forward and braced your elbows on your knees, “We going undercover?”
Zemo nodded, “James, you will have to become someone you claim is gone.”
Both you and Bucky tensed.
You looked up at Bucky to see his jaw clenched and his hands in tight fists, the Winter Soldier was dead and now he was being asked to revive him.

hurts like hell | b. barnes
pairing: james “bucky” barnes x maximoff! reader
warnings: morally grey characters, character death, MCU level violence, diverts from MCU canon, MoM spoilers
summary: she loses him at the battle of wakanda and grows into a morally grey witch trying to gain him back.
Tumblr media
Things were quiet in a manner which things should never be. Deep in her body she could feel things were merely preparing to implode and as she watched from the top of a Wakanda Tower, the winds merely a reminder of what was to come. She could feel it within her, the warlord holding the stones which had awakened her powers getting closer and closer, attempting to find its last stone which currently sat in her sister’s partner’s head. Nevertheless, she couldn’t help but stare out the windows, the fields almost dark as the threat loomed over everything she had. Everything they had fought for, the future they’d discussed during sleepless nights.
     - Are you alright? - the ex Winter Soldier walked up behind her, his hand intertwining with hers.
     - I don’t wanna fight. - she whispered due to the sin that came attached to her words. She had power, she had things within her which were still desperately unknown, and because she had power, it was as if she owed humanity her aid. Why did she need to sacrifice everything herself? Hadn’t she lost enough? - Why does it always end up in a fight?
     - It’ll be soon over. - he rose her hand up to his lips, kissing the top of it before looking at her with those blue eyes which although everything they’d been through still managed to give a sense of peace. - It’ll be over soon, little witch.
She didn’t trust him. She’d usually trust him, it was so easy to after all; but this time, this time she could feel it that something bad was coming. She knew doom and this was it, creeping onto them like a wave to sand. Yet, the feeling of doom was nothing compared to the fear that clouded her mind as she watched him, the only person who’d truly loved her after her stint in HYDRA, go away to fight in the frontlines. Like a wife biding a sailor goodbye, she stayed behind the glass, deemed powerful enough to protect her sister and Vision but not powerful enough to join them in the frontlines. She’d always be considered too erratic, too unstable to be a hero, to be the one who fights in the frontlines. No, she needed to stay behind, behind where there was someone powerful enough to stop her if she wasn’t trustworthy enough.
    - It’ll be fine. - her sister comforted her once again, even as the horizon filed with creatures and armies looking forward to gain the very last Infinity stone. However, Y/N doubted they’d have enough time to unbind Vision from the stone in time.
She was right, things were turning for the worse and took an even darker tone once Wanda too left the tower. She looked towards Vision who looked at her with a look of understanding.
    - We’re not gonna win. - she whispered to herself. - I have to find my sister, I have to find Bucky.
Everything was entirely too fast for her. The once easy target’s she’d trained herself to defend against were nothing compared to weird creatures going after her and everything being thrown at her. She defended herself to be the best of her abilities, moving towards the battleground to find Bucky until she felt a pang in her chest. Vision. He wasn’t here anymore. Tears burned at the corner of her eyes as she viciously levitated over the grounds, attempting to find her Bucky. They needed to go, they needed to go now. He owed nothing to this, he owed nothing to a group of people who had once wanted him dead.
    - BUCKY! - she yelled out as she landed onto the ground once more, red light moving through bushes and bushes of greenery until she finally found him
She stood feet away from him, a smile creeping on her face as she finally saw him. Her heart settling. They could go home, they needed to go home. Yet before she could reach him, before she could feel him, his voice reverberated in the air as his body disappeared into dust in the wind. A gruesome cry gathered at the back of her throat as she collapsed to the ground, her knees rubbing against the pebbles as tears rolled down her face, her hand touching the ground he once stood out. Steve attempted to hold her but the screams only returned as she couldn’t feel them anymore. He wasn’t here, her sister wasn’t here.
She stared ahead of her, the God of Thunder holding his axe against the titan’s chest - failure. However, as the warlord attempted to snap his fingers once more, she rose her own hand, stopping him. Her eyes turned red, her tears once clear rolled equally crimson down her cheeks as she got onto her feet. This was not a little witch and like a wounded lover, she strode down the path of the green grass which turned dark as she passed by, the red magic holding the titan still in the ground. She stood in front of him, much shorter than the titan yet holding enough anger in her eyes to even make him fear her.
    - It’s no time to mourn, child. - he spoke but his voice got muffled as she moved her hand once more, choking him with his own words.
    - You’ve taken everything from me!
She moved her hands down, the titan harshly falling on ground, still stilled. Steve attempted to reach her but he too was merely pushed off as the axe who once was buried in Thanos’ chest rose onto the air, taunting just above his neck.
    - I’ll make you feel the way i felt when you took him away from me. - those were the last words she said, a smile through the crimson tears as she gave up her control of the axe which swiftly fell onto the titan.
Blood splattered over her face but she didn’t blink or shy away from her. She merely stayed there as it dripped down her face, a silence surrounding her as no one said a word.
    - Y/N. - Steve spoke out, her name like a curse as she turned around, the blood falling towards the ground before she disappeared in a crimson cloud.
(...)
She woke up once more in a sweat, her arm extending towards the left side of the bed only to find it cold once more. He wasn’t here, she’d seen him but he wasn’t here. Her darkened fingers brushed over the ivory pillow they’d picked; the same ivory pillow in her dreams he got to sleep in. She held the sheets against her chest, the dried tears no longer able to run down her cheeks. Her eyes looked at her astral form, flipping through the Darkhold. If there was a way to bring him back. She needed a way to break from this reality, she needed out.
Through the quiet of her home, a small noise was heard. Her head turned to the side as another centre of energy formed in her hand, slowly pacing through her home until she reached her living room.
      - I know you’re in there. - she spoke to the empty house, twitching her finger to bring the intruder back to life. - How’d you find, Rogers?
      - It was the last place to look for you. - he dropped the shield which had been given to him in Wakanda. - Y/N, come home.
      - What home? The Avengers Headquarters? It’s not my home.
      - I know you’re confused and you’re mourning but ... Y/N, let us help you.
      - Help me? - she chuckled. - You never wanted to help me, you wanted me controlled.
      - I don’t want you controlled. I ... it wasn’t just you who lost someone.
      - He shouldn’t have been there. - her the rim around her pupil began to glow bright red. - It didn’t need to be a fight. If it wasn’t for you and your bunch of hypocrite people he’d be here. He’d be here with me like we planned. We were gonna be happy.
      - No one could’ve known who would go, Y/N.
      - I would’ve protected him.
      - You couldn’t have protected him.
      - You don’t know half of what I can do, Rogers. Don’t stand in my way.
      - There’s nothing we can do, Y/N. We tried, we’ve been trying.
She blinked, raising her hand as a constellation in red circled her, various dots with different realities. The first Avenger stepped closer, watching what looked like exactly what she wanted, her and Bucky, happy. Her eyes looked up to hers.
     - This universe is an anomaly. He’s alive in every single other reality and we’re happy.
     - Y/N, he’s not alive. These are just ... dreams.
     - They’re not dreams. I see him, every night, in other realities and he’s alive and my sister’s alive and she has her boys. I just, I just need to get there, get to him.
     - What about the other you? It’s not you, it’s not your Bucky, Y/N. - silence struck between the two of them. - Please don’t make stop you.
     - Stop me? - she smiled.
She turned around, her eyes lingering over her home before turning around. Her hand twitched as she held him constricted by red lines.
     - You can’t stop me.

You’d think that after saving the world from a blood-thirsty alien, the Avengers would be able to go home to their lives with a sense of relief that they haven’t felt in five years, but it could not be any further from the truth. With their eyes fixed on the water, they all watched their friend drift away from their lives forever. Tony Stark—the man they never knew they needed the most— had a death they all did not expect. As reality sank in for everyone that he was gone from their lives forever, his death also signified an end of an era; the era of the Avengers.
The next few hours the remaining Avengers had spent together were all a blur. While some decided to go home, others— like Steve Rogers — needed to wrap up loose ends. It was time to return the Infinity Stones back to their proper places. As Stephen Strange pointed out, time travel was a dangerous line that was very easy to cross if one was too reckless with its power. As Steve prepared himself to travel through time, Stephen, Sam, Bucky, Bruce and Scott all helped him and gave him instructions. In concept, the instruction was simple: put each infinity stone back to its proper places in time and location and come back to the present time. It should have been a simple task. Steve had been capable of following more intricate orders in his lifetime. But Steve recalled what Tony had said to him right before their fated battle with Thanos: ‘you mess with time, it will mess back with you.’ There was no telling what dangers lie ahead of him while he returns the stones, so he needed to be alert at all times. He braced himself and said his farewells to his friends before Scott pressed the trigger.
Immediately, he was sucked into the quantum realm, expertly maneuvering his way through the complicated maze of tunnels to reach his first stop: 2012, New York City. He was so close to reaching the end of the tunnel when something grabbed his ankle and yanked him back. The soldier gasped in shock and swiftly turned around, blindly swinging his shield back to where the intruder was holding him. He felt his shield make a sickening impact against the enemy’s body, watching them stumble back. With how far the masked intruder pulled him back, there was no way he could get out of this realm without hurting the other and getting them off his body. The two of them fought, arms swinging and legs kicking in a race to knock the other out unconscious first. While Steve was fighting them, his keen eyes noticed that the masked stranger wore one of his own quantum suits. Quickly, his mind realized that this was a sudden ambush and that the others might not be able to bring him back from this realm. With one powerful punch, he managed to put quite a distance from the other.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, he yelled into his earpiece, praying to God that Scott could answer him. “Scott! Scott, can you hear me?” He cried out, trying to keep himself from panicking. From the corner of his eye, he saw the intruder slowly recover from the severe blow. He could hear static and then a strained voice. Steve never felt so relieved to hear Scott’s voice. “Steve…there’s been an attack. I’m taking you back in five…” Before he could hear more, Steve was punched harshly in the gut, sending him flying back. He was so close to leaving. He just needed to fight for a bit longer. “Four…” he heard in his ear while launching himself towards the intruder. He could only make it so far before the intruder managed to pull out a gun from their coat and successfully shot Steve in the leg. The soldier cried out in pain, his stride breaking as he stumbled back. “Three…”
Looking up helplessly from where he was, he noticed his blood floating around him before his attention shifted to the masked enemy laughing manically. “What have you done?” He growled angrily. The other stared back at him, saying nothing except holding up the five infinity stones that glowed inside the case Steve had been carrying previously. “Two!” Scott cried out in his ear. His eyes widened in horror as the enemy shook the case tauntingly at the captain before throwing them into a random tunnel. Steve could do nothing except watch them disappear into the colorful abyss while the masked person laughed once more. “One!” What was Steve going to do now? How are the others going to react when they find out what happened? While stuck in his thoughts, he heard the intruder’s voice call out to him for the first and last time. “Good luck getting them back.”
“Zero.”
The captain inhaled sharply as he was transported back. The last thing he could hear was the masked intruder proclaiming his loyalty into the abyss as he disappeared: “All hail Thanos.”
When he finally saw the green trees once more, he gasped loudly, collapsing onto the ground with a cry of pain. He could hear footsteps hurriedly approaching him. Shaking hands carefully guided him to the cabin where he could get medically taken care of. He used the one last burst of energy he had left to look around worriedly at the others and noticed his friends’ injured states as well. He murmured something akin to an apology to his peers before he collapsed in their arms and everything turned black.
———
When he came to, several pairs of eyes looked down at him. He watched as their mouths moved slowly, yet any words they could have been speaking were silent to his ears. It took who he could make out to be Stephen to slap him several times to bring him back to reality. He blinked a few times and all of a sudden, he was acutely aware of all the sounds surrounding him. “Wake up,” Stephen said sternly, though Steve could tell he was secretly worried behind that cold mask he liked to put up in front of everybody. Slowly, he rubbed his eyes to let it focus. When it did, he was met with the sight of unfamiliar surroundings. This wasn’t the cabin. As if he was sensing Steve’s confusion, Stephen clarified out loud. “We aren’t at Tony’s cabin. I took you back to the New York Sanctum so I could properly treat you and leave Tony’s family alone so they can grieve in peace.” Steve watched from the corners of his eyes the shocked expressions of the others in the room when they heard Stephen’s compassionate reasoning behind the teleportation to the Sanctum. He wished he could savor the peaceful moment this was, but Steve needed to tell the others what had happened.
“Guys,” he croaked out before clearing his throat. “Someone attacked me while I was traveling. I don’t know who they were, but they were wearing one of the suits.” Steve gulped as he remembered the horrifying sight of the infinity stones being thrown away and lost forever. “They’re gone. They threw the Infinity Stones and now they’re all gone.” There was a heavy silence that fell into the room when they all realized the weight of their situation. After a moment of silence, Scott stood up hesitantly, which could only mean to Steve that he had an even worse news to tell. He braced himself as Scott spoke to the group. “They must have gotten access to the suits while we were all at Tony’s memorial service. All of the suits are destroyed,” he paused and sighed heavily towards Steve’s direction. “Including yours, Captain. It’s quite honestly beyond repair.”
This was terrible news for everyone, but they couldn’t give up now. Steve thought of different ways to solve their problems and get the Infinity Stones back. One idea came to his head and he spoke more enthusiastically this time. “Well, Hank Pym is alive now, right? He must know how to make new suits for us. Why don’t we give him a call? He was at Tony’s funeral only a while ago.” Scott sat back down in his chair and held his head in his hands. “I did tell him and he said he could get us new suits, but it will be finished in a few weeks, even a month,” he stated defeatedly. Sam groaned in frustration and leaned further against the doorway. Beside him, Bucky added onto Scott’s statement to make a point. “Steve, we can’t afford to wait weeks. If we don’t get these Stones back right now, who knows what will happen?” He said worriedly. “He’s right,” Stephen mumbled. He looked visibly angry and the others know that they need to be careful with what they say, just so they don’t accidentally piss him off. He crossed the room to look out the window in order to calm himself down. “Plucking the Infinity Stones from their timeline and not putting them back right away can cause massive incursions. It could be the very cause of the destruction of our entire universe,” he spoke gravely.
Steve tried not to beat himself up for what had happened, but he couldn’t help it. He was tasked to do a simple job and now, he might have accidentally been the cause of the destruction of the universe. Clearly, everyone was at a loss for words, unsure of what to do next. There was no other solution they could think of. It was a shame, too. They have only restored the world yesterday and now they were about to destroy it all over again. Hope seemed to fly out the window forever when Bruce thought about an idea that would definitely not be appreciated by the group, but it was the only way they could successfully save the universe. “Guys…?” They all turned to look at Bruce helplessly. He gulped nervously and fidgeted with his fingers. “Why don’t we just call (Y/n)…?”
Sudden tension filled the air and Bruce had never felt so much regret speaking up for himself in his entire life than right now. When the tension became too much, Steve replied to Bruce that made him genuinely fear for his life.
“Absolutely not. (Y/n) is out of the picture.” The others proceeded to protest right after Steve spoke.
“(Y/n) didn’t even help us fight Thanos!”
“What makes you think (y/n) will even want to help us now?”
“Enough!” Wong angrily snapped at the rest of the group. He was not one to usually react so passionately, but when it came to you, he was defensive. You were his friend, even despite Stephen’s desperate attempts to convince him that you were evil and self-serving. They all looked at him with shocked expressions. Even Stephen turned around to stare at him incredulously. Wong didn’t hesitate to defend you from their accusations. “The reason why (Y/n) didn’t help us battle against Thanos is because (Y/n)’s magical gift is time travel. Don’t you remember that the witch can see into the future, just as well as visit the past?” He paused to gauge their reactions: some still angry, yet others slightly faltering in their opinions of you. He continued. “Dr. Banner is right. If you cannot wait for Dr. Pym to finish making new suits, then you need to speak to (Y/n). That witch is the only way for you all to not only locate where each Infinity Stone is, but (Y/n) can also physically retrieve it for you without any quantum technology at all!” When he finally finished his rant, he breathed heavily through his nose, trying to control his emotions. Watching the idiotic men in front of him accuse you of being heartless and inhumane for all these years has finally taken a toll on him. With Wong’s outburst finished, everyone turned to each other, unsure of what to say. They now had a solution, but they all knew that you probably did not want to see them after all the nasty insults they had spewed at you before casting you out of the Avengers team for good. Wong noticed their hesitations and grunted in frustration. “Before you say anything, I am not visiting (Y/n). You all have to go and make amends.” With that said, Wong used his magic to slip into Stephen’s hand your address and swiftly left the room.
Steve let out a sigh and stood up to the best of his ability, supporting himself on the wooden bedpost. Sam watched him carefully, making sure he didn’t fall forward. Bucky rubbed his face tiredly and leaned against the large dresser beside him. Stephen looked down at the paper and closed his shaking fist around it. “We should go now,” Steve said to him. “It’s getting dark. We should figure out who is driving and prepare some food to eat as well.” Like usual, he was the one who always had a plan for the team. Though this time, he was more unsure and nervous about their plan than ever before. Maybe because it was you— the friend they all treated horribly. He was always the one who stood up for bullying, but he was guilty of treating you more horribly than anyone else has done to you. Well— not everyone. If he recalled correctly, it was not as horrible as Stephen had said to you. He admittedly felt a little bit better about that fact and decided to let it soothe him while he made his way out of the room.
Everyone left except for Stephen. Bruce was the only one who noticed that and he made his way over to the sorcerer with a grave expression on his face. He observed Stephen and contemplated speaking to him; then he soon chose to do so. “Stephen…you know, you should probably be the one to apologize out of everyone else,” he chastised hesitantly. Stephen gripped the sheet of paper in his hand harder than before and closed his eyes. The words he spoke to you that fateful night echoed in his head each time someone said your name or mentioned you and now, he was going to have to face you in person once again and own up to his actions. Stephen was a prideful man, one that never admitted to be flawed or ever make mistakes, but Bruce knew better than that. In taking one look at Stephen, he already knew that the sorcerer has been beating himself up every single day for the way he had treated you that night. At the time, he was riled up from everyone else’s insults towards you and he simply just let it slip. “Stephen,” Bruce called out to him, shaking him from his daze. The taller man looked down at him with an icy stare before he swiftly turned around to leave the room. “Let’s go, Dr. Banner. Tell the others that I’ll be teleporting all of us to (Y/n).” Just like that, the man left Bruce alone in the room. Before he left to follow him, his eyes drifted towards the small picture frame on top of the little table at the corner of the room: you and Stephen posed together as happy as you could be, completely unaware of the big fight that would soon separate you both forever. He saddened at the sight of your genuine smile before he closed the door behind him for good.
———
Within your five years in isolation, life has been surprisingly more peaceful than you could have ever imagined for a witch of your caliber. Though you are fine now, the first few weeks without the only friends you’ve ever made in your entire life had been torture for you. You had just accepted them into your life as your family when you heard the news about familiar spaceships touching down in New York City. You tried so hard to forget about this future, the future where everyone had died and you had survived. In fact, you did everything you could to prevent this future from happening while you strengthened your relationships with your friends and most importantly-- Stephen.
Stephen Strange: the man who had stolen your heart. You two had met when he was still training in the Mystic Arts. He loved to remind you  during your friendship that you were the only person at the time who was able to put up with his arrogance when he first started. Your relationship started out as respective peers who called on each other for help when the state of the universe was at stake, but it quickly turned into daily visits to the New York Sanctum and late nights reading books together. What was once firm handshakes and affectionate hugs turned into hearts burning for each other with each fleeting touch you shared together. It may have been in vain, but you loved him, all of him. You had always done everything he ever asked of you without hesitation and strove to make him smile every time you saw him.
But it apparently wasn’t enough for him. Because on that fated doomsday in New York City, Stephen stepped through the portal and onto your front porch to request for your help with defeating the one Titan you knew would end up successfully destroying the universe. You knew it was going to happen. You knew that time would come where he would fulfill the prophesy you saw when you looked into the future, but you thought you had more time to confess to him before it was too late. But now it was too late and all you could do was brace yourself for the inevitable.
They were all there. Of course, the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could not finish the job on their own. Of course they needed your help in defeating Thanos. You wanted so desperately to say ‘yes,’ to change the future by helping them defeat the man that would end up killing all your friends. You wanted to give yourself more time with the man you’ve grown to love. Even though you wanted to change the future so badly, it would risk an incursion if you agreed to help. So, with a heavy heart, you declined their pleas. You knew what was going to happen next: the begging, the gaslighting, the insults to your character and morality, all of it being thrown your way. Those were all the events you were expecting. What you weren’t expecting, however, was what Stephen had to say to you that night:
“You’re pathetic, (y/n). It was a mistake to ever consider you as a friend.”
It hurt in so many different ways. Over the years, you’ve analyzed his words over and over again. It was the way he said it so coldly, while looking at you with an arrogant sneer. It was the way he confirmed that he never saw you as anything more than a friend, even though the romantic tension you two had for each other was undeniable. But the worst part was that this was not just his final disappointment in you, but it was also his final goodbye before he would die from the hands of Thanos. Those words alone were enough to run away and disappear from the world for the rest of your life. And after that night, they never saw you again.
You slowly came back to reality after a moment of deep reflection and you took in the beauty of the forest all around you. Building this cottage in the middle of a forest was the best decision you have ever made. You had to remind yourself that this life was more fulfilling than being an unappreciated ally fighting other peoples’ wars. Your connections to nature and the animals around you were enough to leave behind your time traveling lifestyle and appreciate what the present has to offer you every single day. You promised yourself that you would use your magic to nurture yourself, your lively cottage and the wildlife around you. They provided better company than your friends have ever given. This is where you belonged: wild and free.
That is, until you heard a familiar sizzle and a golden circle appear right outside your gate.
After the shock of the sight of your friends near your home settled in, you narrowed your eyes in anger. How dare they show up unannounced and beg for your audience once again! How dare they waltz back into your life as if they hadn’t said the vile words they threw at you that continue to haunt your mind to this day! You will not let them ruin the peace you have worked so desperately to keep in your sacred space. Extending your arms, you used the thick growing vines on your fences to form them into a thick wall, barring them from even approaching you at all. You huffed at your work and collected the last of your ripe vegetables before slamming the cottage door shut.
Stephen sighed at your actions and rubbed his forehead. Your magic would be difficult to counter. It was unpredictable and he was sure that you have only advanced in your abilities since the last time he saw you. And sure enough, Bruce ended up getting electrocuted after delicately touching the vines. He grabbed the man’s collar and tugged him behind, analyzing the witchcraft before him. “Step back. (Y/n)’s magic is powerful and unpredictable. Let me handle it.”
While Stephen continued to cast spell after spell in order to counter it, he mentally slapped himself for not thinking about bringing Wong to the cottage. Once again, his arrogance failed him. The entirety of this situation was so ironic for him: before, you were trying to break down his emotional walls so you could become closer to him and now, he was trying to break down physical walls so he could see you again. Seeing as it was hopeless to try and break the barrier with Stephen’s magic, Bucky impatiently stepped forward and took out his gun. Stephen’s eyes widened. “No, don’t--!”
You were peacefully cutting a carrot when you heard several gunshots echo across the forest. The animals inside your house quivered at the sound and immediately hid or ran out the door. In a state of sudden panic, you hurriedly used your magic to calm their minds before rushing out the door and across the garden. You were horrified at the sight in front of you: your beautiful vines now withered on the ground due to the gunshots. Your eyes filled with tears, now letting the pent-up anger, sadness and revenge fill your entire body and you channel that raw energy into your hands. Seeing your hands light up, Steve took a step forward and laid his shield down in front of you to surrender. “Stop! We just want to talk!” he exclaimed quickly before you could attack. His words did nothing to ease the pain of losing your plants to destructive weapons and the pain of seeing your former friends begging you for help once again, but it was enough to convince you to disarm yourself.
You reached up to wipe the tears that were quickly spilling from your eyes and turned around, walking up the path and to your cottage. “I know why you’re here. Just...” you let out a hiccup before you tried to calm yourself down. As much as you wanted to kick them out, this was a mission that Fate wanted you to accept. So, you weakly beckoned them over. “Come inside.”
———
“...and that’s why we came to you, (y/n). We know that this is a lot to ask for, but you’re the only hope we have.”
You looked up from under your eyelashes to stare at the men inside your home. The cottage did not react kindly to the unwanted guests, with flying chairs sweeping Sam off his feet and the wooden coat rack swinging hard against Bucky’s head. But they all knew they deserved it. They were the ones who had always been at fault. You slowly moved to the cauldron and threw spices and herbs into the boiling water. “You treat me like shit for having a backbone and now you come here, five years later, just to ask for my help again?” you hissed out bitterly before turning around to glare at all of them. “You all have the utmost audacity to ask me to participate in a very dangerous mission without so much as an apology!” The chairs emphasized your point by bending forward, causing Sam and Bruce to collapse on the floor. Steve made eye contact with you with a guilty expression and you then remembered what you had to do. You let out a deep sigh and waved your hand dismissively. “As I expected. You guys have always seen me as an asset to use, anyway. Once I finish making dinner, you will all eat and leave afterwards. I will see you all at the Sanctum tomorrow.”
Though you held no emotions to your statement, the others felt quite horrible about how they had treated you. The dinner that night was incredibly tense with everyone else reflecting on what they did to lead you to the conclusion that they only saw you as an asset. You hated every second of their stay at your home because you knew now that they always put you in danger. They never gave you the peace you deserved and they only saw the value of your powers. Yet still, you had to push these thoughts away for now. Fate has called you to help them return the Infinity Stones. After that, you can finally return to your life and pretend that the love you had for Stephen and your friends had never existed in the first place.
After dinner had been concluded, the others tried to make it up to you through their pitiful requests to help you around the house. Steve offered to clean the dishes for you and Bucky offered to clear the table. Your lovely cottage had spoken for you, of course, as everything seemed to clean itself up on its own. They all stood in the center of the kitchen and watched everything gain a mind of its own as the cottage worked hard to clean everything up. While it did so, you stepped out to get fresh air, letting the moonlight bathe you with its energy. It cleansed you from all the worries and stress you had gained from seeing them today and calmed your spirit once again. Of course, this only lasted for a short amount of time when you felt a familiar presence behind you. You lowered your gaze to the pond in front of you, watching the fishes swim elegantly in the moonlight.
You said nothing, forcing Stephen to make the first move. You knew he had always relied on you for everything in the past, but now you refused to give him anything remotely familiar to the affection you held for him before. He grit his teeth nervously but he took the hint and walked up next to you. “I know...you don’t want to see us, to see me. I know I hurt you, but I--” he cut himself off when he saw your face visibly change to a look of pain before you looked away. He couldn’t admit it to anyone, but it broke his heart to know that he had caused you so much pain to the point where it could not be repaired. Life without you has been so horrible and seeing you so happy before he came here made him want to keep his distance from you, but he couldn’t do it. He needed you. He looked down shamefully and fiddled with the cuffs of his robe. “I’m sorry, (y/n). I’m sorry for what I said that night. I know it’s not in my place to ask for your forgiveness, but I just needed you to know that I’m sorry. I...” he trailed off, his voice wavering with a deep emotion he had hidden from everyone except for you at this moment. “I miss you. I miss your presence at the Sanctum. I miss seeing you, being with you. (Y/n),” he pleaded quietly to you, slowly intertwining his scarred fingers with yours. As if a dam broke inside you, all the unrequited love you repressed for this man had possessed you once again. It was too much to deal with while he pleaded with you. “Please, I can’t live without you,” he confessed, squeezing your hand boldly as he waited anxiously for your answer.
You stayed quiet, trying to calm the racing heart you once again felt after so many years. You remained this tense before you forced your hand out of his grasp. He let out a soft sigh of disappointment, which tipped you over the edge. Now he is sad that you cannot be in his life anymore? How ridiculous of him to think that he could just waltz back into your life and hope that you will come back to him, a man who had never learned to appreciate you for who you are. You turned to him sharply with frustration in your eyes. “It’s a little too late for that now, isn’t it? You said it yourself: you should have never been friends with me. Because that’s all I was to you, Stephen: a friend. Of course, the great Stephen Strange couldn’t even admit that he loved me just as much as I loved him!” You laughed bitterly. “You couldn’t even keep that friendship with me because you were so busy pretending that you could care less for everyone around you except for yourself!” you shouted at him towards the end. This was what you’ve been wanting to tell him for so many years and now, it felt satisfying to see the look of hurt and guilt on his face. You scoffed at his expression and stared at him in disdain. He stared back at you, comparing your expression to what it once was when you loved him. Never in his life will he ever regret anything more than the way he destroyed any chance of experiencing the love you had always wanted to give to him, as he had always refused to take it because of his arrogance and selfishness.
You gripped onto his robe and tugged it harshly towards you. He grunted in shock before he looked at your threatening gaze. “Let me make it clear: you and your friends have broken any form of love and trust I had previously held. You will never be forgiven and you are never to seek me out again after this mission is finished.” You shoved him backwards after you finished speaking and made your way back to the cottage with the others. You stopped at the door and finally said the words you wished you could have said all those years ago.
“You are pathetic. It was a mistake to ever think that you could love me the way that I loved you.”
The words you spoke were the exact parallel to what he had said five years ago. Only now, he finally felt the full force of pain and hurt you had experienced ever since that night. By the time he had fully processed your words, the others have been calling him to make the portal back to the Sanctum. Mindlessly he did so, letting everyone through before he went though it too. As he closed the portal, he made eye contact with you and he knew right then and there that he had lost his chance to ever feel the happiness he had hoped he could have with you forever. When you stare right back at him, you know that when you step foot into the Sanctum tomorrow to travel back in time and once again clean up after their mess, he will only think about how he and everyone else will lose your love and kindness forever.
And that alone was victory enough for you.

a/n - Ahhhhh this has been a long time coming for me. I started this story a year and a half ago when I was in a very dark place. Thankfully with much deserved self reflection and support I am ready to come back to this story. Now, with the help of some of the BEST beta readers I’ve had the pleasure to meet, the first chapter of this series is ready for your enjoyment. ^.^
 p.s I envisioned the reader as plus size and black (cause that’s meee) but it can be read regardless.
Big thanks and love to my beta readers: @srhwho @beating-a-dead-plot @the-singular-peep @who-you-gonna-message
It’s all gone.
I’ve finally finished selling all my things, and an empty apartment lies before me. A ghost of what it used to be, really. From furniture, appliances, wall art and throw blankets, down to the Marvel comics and movies I never finished. Given away. I had thought to keep everything the way it was when I left but I know the money I’ve saved can go to a good cause.
The tub is warm and soothing, water nearly spilling out but stays bubbled around the edge as I slip deeper into it. The smell of my last Christmas candle lingers in the air and, if it weren’t for the bottle of pills on the toilet seat cover next to me, I might’ve said this was a pleasant experience. As I stare at them, I can’t help but think how long it would take, would it hurt, should I have picked another way?
It’s okay, this is what I want. Right? I promised myself if I did everything I could and nothing worked, this could be it.
A glimmer catches my eye and I turn to see the last thing I own, a photo. A photo of the only thing I wanted to see before I go, my friends. The ones that really made me believe things could change. We met by chance but were held together by our love of nerdy things. What would they say about me now?
Tears stream down my face as I grab the photo, wishing it could save me from this. From what I’m feeling, what I’ve been through, what I’m about to do. I see my smiling face and wonder what I could’ve done to get that back. To feel hope again. I turn the photo over and find my list of reasons to stay alive.
10.I deserve good things 9.I want to make a difference 8.Heavy rain and hot chocolate 7.What if they invent space travel after I’m gone? 6.Eating cheesecake at 3am  5. Sunny days 4. Looking for shooting stars 3. The neighborhood cats 2. Spite 1.Love
I remember all the jokes my friends made when I wrote down the first two. It’s true though, spite has gotten me so far in life but love feels like healing. It made me appreciate the small, beautiful wonders of the world all of which I’m leaving behind. Can I really leave all of this behind? I close my eyes and list my reasons like a prayer till my voice goes hoarse.
Maybe waiting one day won’t hurt
The door to the bathroom slams shut.
Whispers begin to fill the room, creating a cacophony of almost unbearable sound. Dropping the photo to cover my ears does nothing to drown out the voices, all of which are too quiet to hear more than a word or two.
“...protect…”
“...chosen…”
“...chosen…”
“...chosen…”
“...find them...”
The bathroom light blows out and I jump splashing water everywhere as a giant reflection appears in front of me. It looks like moving water. I think for a second then go to touch it, my hand completely passing through.
Holy shit
Yanking my hand back I see my fingers tangled in a necklace with 6 gems, each radiating a different color. Why the hell is this so familiar? Before I can inspect anymore, the room begins to shake and the jewelry falls out of my hand into the tub. I grip the edge of the tub and sweep my legs inwards to catch the necklace and quickly put it on.
The room goes still.
What the hell just happened. I touch the center of my chest, smoothing my fingers over the chain. Rising from the tub, prior motives long forgotten, I towel off and find myself lying in my empty bedroom with my phone plugged into the wall.
Search: Real Infinity Stones MCU
As I scroll through the results, mostly containing plastic versions of the stones for sale and Marvel movie ads, nothing resembles any sort of answer.
I mean sure I’m off my rocker a little bit right now, but I know I didn’t just imagine that. Infinity Stones!? I’d heard rumors about Hydra being real, maybe even multiple realities – but this? How am I even holding it!?
BANG BANG BANG
The front door startles me and, as I get up to answer, my stomach tightens. Something doesn’t feel right.  As I tiptoe towards the door, the banging becomes louder and louder, until I’m in front of the peephole. No one. Suddenly glass shatters from my bedroom window and footsteps bound towards me. I rush to the kitchen, hoping to find something, but feel a slight pinch on my neck and darkness takes over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The room I wake to is nothing like my apartment. Cement walls covered in cracks and dirt and grime, the strong smell of bleach and mold hangs in the air.  Head pounding, I can feel soreness in my arms and legs. My heavy eyes open to see that I’m strapped down to a chair, incapacitated. My shirt has been ripped open and a small tube has been hooked up to my chest, connecting to 3 giant machines placed around me that are filled with a blue liquid.
“Finally, you’re awake.”
Behind me, in the far right corner, sat a man in a long tattered white coat with a clipboard in his hands. He watches me through his broken glasses as I struggle against the restraints, careful to not move the tubes.
“What are you doing to me?” I ask weakly.
“Only saving our asses, now please sit still. I can't get a proper reading on the stones when you move like that,” he replies, crossing the room and opening the door for another man. This one had on all black tactical gear, a gun fastened to his hip, and a black arm patch with a bright red skull and six tentacles. He stays close to the door and crosses his arms.
“Who the hell are you? You’re not doing shit except keeping me hostage with the Hydra reject over there!”
“Actually, he was a top asset to Hydra in the days before Thanos.” White coat chuckles, “And think of our relationship more as that of Frankenstein and Monster.”
My eyes go wide with fear. “What the hell are you doing to me!?”
White Coat stands between two machines and flips a switch, sending me doubling over in pain. Blue liquid from the machines starts seeping through my tube. After a minute, he flips the switch again and begins asking questions,
“How’s the clarity of your mind right now?”
“Could you feel anything happening with the stones?”
“Are you noticing any hardening in your muscles?”
This guy is insane
I huff leaning up, “Just please tell me what you’re doing to me, I don’t know why I have the stones or how to use them. If you want them so bad why haven’t you taken them?”
“Trust me darling, we tried,” White Coat says, pointing to my chest. I look down in horror noticing a faint, oval shaped scar around the necklace. “Those stones don’t want to be taken.”
Did they fucking cut me open? I’ll kill him I swear…wait-
“Why is it healed so much, I just got here?”
“The stones healed you, of course. Can’t have their protector getting hurt, now can they?” He sounded bitter.
I raise an eyebrow and he steps around the machines with a small metal chair and clipboard and sits in front of me.
“This last test really messed with your memory, huh? The stones chose you as their protector.”
It hit me like a train. The voices. Most were too quiet to even hear but I know they said this. They must have been trying to tell me, or warn me. But what does “find them” mean? Find who? There’s no way it’s these guys.
“Chose me? Why would they have chosen me?”
Tactical Gear turns to me. “Trust me, sweetheart, we’ve been trying to figure that out too.”
“Oh and…you’ve been here a while my dear, about 6 months now?”
“6 months tomorrow, Doc.” Tactical Gear sports a grin as he speaks.
“W-why can’t I remember? Have I been asleep?”
Tactical Gear snickers, “You wish, sweetheart, we’ve spent a lot of quality time together. And your memory? That’s all Doc.”
“It’s truly the kindest thing we could do for you, this work doesn’t happen without some… side effects”
Side effects!? “What kind of side effect warrants memory loss? What’s going on here!?”
“Jesus Christ, Doc just tell them, it’s no fun fucking with them when they’re like this.”
“I wanted to give them time, but … alright,” White Coat lets out a breath. “I assume you aren’t aware of the multiverse, yes?”
“Like in Marvel movies?”
He sighs, “This is much more complicated than that but yes, and similar to the movies, Thanos is also very real and very much on his way for those stones. He destroyed Hydra looking for them many years ago, and I have no doubt he senses their presence now.”
“My theory is that, combined with my version of the super soldier serum, the stones will react to your new strength and be our ticket out of here. You’ve been quite stubborn these past few months and have refused to willingly participate in my work so this,” he gestures to the restraints, “is our last resort.”
"You're seriously making me...what, like a super soldier? Like Captain America? I could literally die!"
“ Do not worry my dear, you will be my greatest creation! You are going to lead Hydra into a new age across the timelines.”
“The only thing I’m going to lead is my foot up your ass, now let me go!”
White Coat only shakes his head before getting up and walking back around the machines. He looks as if he is going to mess with the machines again but decides against it, instead walking towards the door.
“Take them back to their room, we’ll pick up tomorrow.”
Tactical Gear pushes off the wall and unties my arm restraints. “Now don’t get feisty, wouldn’t wanna have to hurt you.”
He smiles.
Dick.
Feeling comes back to my legs as he takes the straps off and lifts me up bridal style out of the room. He walks down a long blue lit hallway, avoiding the stripped wires hanging from the ceiling. If I had the strength in my legs I’d run, but… where would I even go? I don’t know where I am or how far I am from civilization. The room I’m taken to is bland to say the least. Four more cracked cement walls, a chair, and a bed that Tactical Gear throws me unceremoniously on. He turns and walks out, locking the door behind him.
A sob escapes my mouth as I turn over and clutch my legs to my chest. None of this should have happened. I know what I should’ve done, and now I'm here. I pay no attention to the necklace as I run my fingers over the scar – it’s healed but will most likely never go away. A familiar feeling begins to rise.
After everything I’ve been through, THIS is where I end up? These stones saved my life and now I’m stuck with fucking Dr. Jekyll and Hyde? No.Fucking.Way. I’m getting out of here even if it’s the last thing I do.
This is how most nights go now. Wake up, a breakfast of toast and expired fruit, and then continuous torture. Like cattle being raised for slaughter, only I’d be the one doing the slaughtering eventually. I can feel what the serum is doing to me, I’ve bulked up to the point Tactical Gear has a hand on his gun whenever I’m in the room. It would be an ego boost if it wasn’t so damn terrifying, especially since the man looks like he’s itching to pull the trigger!
 It’s been 3 weeks and I haven’t even thought of using the stones. My captors are less than thrilled, but I know Marvel like the back of my hand and, if they think super soldier serum will trigger these stones, yeah right. I just need to buy enough time to figure out where I am and how to leave. They haven’t said anything about it, but I know that’s what comes next. Brainwashing. It’s the only way they’ll ever get me to use the stones for them.
I can hear footsteps through the thick concrete as Tactical Gear approaches, a new perk of the serum. He opens the door and gestures to walk out, hand readily on his gun. I slip past him and make my way to the room — there aren’t any exit doors in the hallway so he lets me by. I learned that my first week. I take a seat and allow him to strap my arms and legs to the chair. He begins inserting the tube and I reflexively wince as he purposefully pushes it too hard.
“I’m hoping this test will be our final and all 3 of us can continue my work somewhere else,” White Coat says, not looking up from his clipboard.
“Wait- you mean this is it? What if it doesn’t work.” My heart races as I think of the consequences of not using these stones.
“ Well, you’ll finally be done with the serum today, so training should be next.”
Sure. “Training”. I knew it.
Looking down again, I feel a wave of nausea come over me. I had to get out of here and fast. Should I use the stones? Are they even in my control? I close my eyes and begin pleading with them.
Please, please, take away my tube and get me out of here!
I wait a moment before opening my eyes and seeing everything still as it was.
“Get ready, dear, try to concentrate on a portal out of here!”
And away from you
As he begins flipping switches again, the blue liquid crawls back towards me, and I can’t help but continue to plead with the stones as pain shoots through me.
Please get me out of here
Please get me out of here
Please get me out of here
Swoosh
A bright light blinds me as the left wall collapses in on itself and is replaced by a smokey blue portal. White coat cheers and begins fiddling with the machines again while Tactical Gear steps over to me and starts untying me from the chair. After unraveling all the restraints, he roughly yanks me up from my chair and pulls the tube from my side. I cringe, expecting pain but as I look where the tube is I already see a scar forming on my side. Another new perk of the serum I’m sure.
 He turns back around to grab a duffle bag hidden from behind a machine and I know this is the only chance I’ll get to escape. I leap over two giant bundles of wires to get out of his reach and dive towards the portal.
“Stop them!”
I can’t tell who’s yelling but it’s the least of my worries as I pass through the portal and crash onto cement. Scrambling up I turn to see White Coat and Tactical Gear bounding towards me. Running through what I now see is an alley, I turn the corner onto the sidewalk and immediately crash into someone.
“Oh my god, please you have to help! These guys are cha-”
My eyes look up to meet large white lenses with black rims sewn into a red and blue suit, an all too familiar sight.
“Woah woah it’s okay! I’m Spider-man, I can help!”
Endgame (Chapter One)
Tumblr media
Summary: (Y/N) and Steve struggle to come to terms with their loss as a new ally rescues Tony from space, and the Avengers decide to track the Mad Titan down.
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Reader
Word Count: 4.4k
Warnings/Disclaimers: None
A/N: Hi guys! Hopefully you’ve forgiven me for the way I ended the last book (sorry not sorry lol) because now we’re moving onto Endgame! It’ll be one hell of a roller-coaster, so be ready to experience every emotion a human can possibly experience lol thank you for reading, I hope you all enjoy!
Chapter One June 2018 Avengers Facility, Upstate New York (Previous Book)
“Dear Mister Fantasy, play us a tune, something to make us all happy. Do anything, take us out of this gloom. Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy…”
As (Y/N) listened to the melancholy song blaring at an unhealthy volume through her earbuds, she stared up at the ceiling of hers and Steve’s bedroom and studied the subtle imperfections of the dry paint. The longer she stared at the slight ridges and streaks above her, the more they stopped looking like slight ridges and streaks and started to resemble the handful of faces she was trying her hardest to ignore.
“You are the one who can make us all laugh, but doing that you break out in tears. Please don’t be sad if it was a straight mind you had, we wouldn’t have known you all these years…”
Her throat tightened in grief as Sam’s teasing smile and playful gaze morphed into existence, quickly joined by Wanda’s devastated expression as she destroyed the Mind Stone embedded in Vision’s forehead and Bucky’s friendly but tortured eyes.
“Dear Mister Fantasy, play us a tune, something to make us all happy. Do anything, take us out of this gloom. Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy, yeah…”
T’Challa’s regal and commanding stare materialized beside the others and her own eyes began to well with fresh tears when her old friend Greg’s cheerful face appeared; she didn’t know that her friend and book publisher was among the Vanished until they all returned to the Avengers Compound and began taking a census, the shocking realization bringing with it a fresh wave of pain and anguish at the thought of Mara, Abbie and Leo having to grapple with his sudden disappearance.
“Dear Mister Fantasy, play us a tune, something to make us all happy. Do anything, take us out of this gloom. Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy…”
(Y/N) squeezed her eyes shut when Loki’s face came to mind, but she was unable to stop herself as she thought about the brave and misunderstood friend who offered her protection and support in one of her most desperate hours and who selflessly sacrificed himself while attempting to stop Thanos before it was too late. She struggled to cope with his loss, partially because she hadn’t been there to witness it herself but mostly because out of everyone residing at the Avengers Compound, she was the only one who truly saw the gentle and loyal side of the God of Mischief; Thor did, too, but the God of Thunder adamantly refused to speak or even look into her eyes after their defeat in Wakanda three weeks earlier. She knew that he blamed himself for not killing Thanos before he could use the Infinity Stones and although no one dared to say it out loud, she also knew that he felt responsible for her very personal loss.
“You are the one who can make us all laugh, but doing that you break out in tears. Please don’t be sad if it was a straight mind you had, we wouldn’t have known you all these years…”
Imagining Carina and how the infant looked when they said goodbye to her right before leaving to battle the Black Order and defend Vision – her tear-filled (Y/E/C) eyes and sweet little pout as she looked up at her adoring parents – proved to be the final straw. (Y/N) sat up on the bed and ripped the earbuds out of her ears, switching the old MP3 player off and setting it on the nightstand before wiping away the tears that managed to escape; she managed to hold back the sob that had started building in her chest and took a quivering breath to try calming herself down.
It had been three weeks since Thanos snapped his fingers and used the six Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life in the universe, three weeks since the Mad Titan walked through a portal and disappeared without a trace, and three weeks since (Y/N) lost her daughter and her friends in the blink of an eye. After everything they’d done since that terrible moment they realized they’d lost – returning to the Avengers Compound, conducting deep space scans to hunt down Thanos, documenting a complete census of the Vanished, becoming acquainted with the cosmic superhero who was summoned back to Earth by Fury before he himself Vanished, and checking in with their surviving friends and family – it still felt as though (Y/N) was trapped in a waking nightmare. Every day for the past twenty-two days, she woke up with thoughts of Carina on her mind and in one heartbreaking moment, she remembered all over again that her daughter was gone and an insurmountable wave of grief would threaten to overtake her.
After taking one final gulp of air, (Y/N) stood and crossed the room to the closed bathroom door, her hand hovering over the doorknob for a brief moment of hesitation before grasping it and slowly opening the door. Steve, who’d been leaning against the sink and staring morosely at his own reflection in the mirror, looked over at her and attempted to smile, but the haunting emptiness in his azure eyes remained; he set the razor he’d used to shave off the physical evidence of his two years on the run down in the sink and ran a hand over his smooth chin. “Yeah, I figured I was overdue for a shave.”
“You were looking a little scruffy.” Stepping into the room, (Y/N) pulled a towel off of the wall rack and carefully wiped away the spots of shaving cream he’d missed. “You and Rocket were beginning to look like twins.”
The super-soldier huffed out a quiet chuckle as his large hands moved to rest on her hips while she continued her methodical task. “Speaking of the talking raccoon, I saw that he disassembled your Bug’s engine; I thought that he was only supposed to be checking your brakes?”
“Well, after he finished with the brakes, he said that he should check out the rest of the car because – and I quote – ‘you humies don’t know jack-shit about machinery.’ He needed a distraction and seems to really enjoy fixing things, so I just let him continue working.” Her movements slowed as she recalled something she’d witnessed earlier that evening and it wasn’t until Steve started running his hands up and down her sides that she finally spoke. “He misses Groot and his friends, the other Guardians of the Galaxy he was telling us about. I saw him sitting in the driver’s seat earlier, listening to one of my old 80’s compilation cassette tapes and staring off at the woods across the lake.”
Steve pursed his lips and nodded. “Thor told Nat that one of the Guardians, a guy named Quill, was originally from Earth and that he loved music as much as you do; she’s been trying to get more intel from both of them to see if Quill’s still got any living family here, but she hasn’t had much luck going off of one name.”
“I can’t say that I blame either of them. They want to forget.” (Y/N) set the towel down on the bathroom sink and lowered her gaze, unable to look at Steve without seeing a hint of their daughter in his features. “I just…” Her lower lip trembled and she blinked back her rapidly-forming tears. “I want to forget, too. Even if it’s just for one night, one moment, I…I-I just want to feel something other than pain.” She mustered up enough courage to glance up and into Steve’s reddened eyes. “Make me forget. Please, sweetheart, make me forget about it all for just one night.”
“We’ll forget together,” Steve promised, a tear trailing down his cheek as he leaned down and captured her lips in a passionate kiss; while she kissed him back with equal vigor, he backed her up against the sink and without warning, he lifted her up by her waist to sit on the bathroom counter and stood between her parted legs. Their kisses were desperate and needy, a far cry from the romantic reconnection she’d spent her entire pregnancy longing for, but their urgency to lose themselves in one another put any thought besides the two of them entirely out of their minds; (Y/N)’s arms wrapped around Steve’s neck and her fingers weaved through his long blonde hair, tugging on the locks and eliciting a sinful groan from Steve. The super-soldier broke their kiss and began to trail his lips down her jawline and along the column of her throat, causing her to tip her head back for easier access and stifle her own satisfied moan.
But just when Steve’s hands were beginning to tug the hem of her shirt upwards, he suddenly stilled against her. “Do you feel that?”
“Hmm?” (Y/N) struggled to regain her breath and comprehend what her fiancé was talking about but moments later, her question was answered when the counter she was seated on began to shake. Her brow furrowed in confusion as she glanced around the bathroom, noticing the mounted makeup mirror quivering and the window pane rattling in its frame, and she pulled away from Steve with her eyes widened in realization. “Oh my God. Do you think that Carol finally found the Benatar?”
Steve nodded as his azure eyes filled with a glimmer of hope. “Let’s go find out.” With a final fleeting kiss, the two of them quickly dressed and hurried outside to where Rhodes, Bruce, Natasha, Rocket and a distraught Pepper were all gathered; the CEO of Stark Industries and Tony’s fiancée had been staying with them at the compound since they’d returned from Wakanda, and she’d spent many sleepless nights analyzing deep space scans in a desperate effort to find Tony and bring him home safely. The super-soldier’s hand squeezed (Y/N)’s tight as they joined the others and they looked up in time to see a massive spacecraft descent from the sky; Carol Danvers, the former U.S. Air Force pilot more commonly known across the galaxy as Captain Marvel, glowed brightly with cosmic energy as she guided the groaning spacecraft to the ground.
“She did it,” Rocket quietly remarked, and there was a hint of fear in his voice. “The glowing chick found ‘em.”
The spacecraft’s steps descended and Pepper stifled a sob in her hands when Tony appeared at the top; a blue-skinned woman was helping the weakened billionaire down the stairs and when he showed signs of unsteadiness, Steve let go of her hand and ran across the lawn to help. (Y/N) watched Pepper and Rhodes share an emotional hug before hurrying to greet Tony, but the small smile she’d managed to muster at their reunion disappeared when she saw that no one else was onboard; at least Rocket isn’t entirely alone, she thought to herself, the hollow feeling in her chest growing as she watched Rocket sit down on the spacecraft’s steps beside the blue-skinned woman and wordlessly take her hand. But the others were gone, either Vanished or murdered by Thanos; the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Peter Parker…
A familiar hand on her shoulder pulled her out of her silent rumination and Natasha smiled a little when she turned. “Tony’s here, alive and safe. He’ll know where we can find Thanos.” The spy gave her shoulder a comforting squeeze just as Carol walked up to them. “Good work, Danvers.”
“We’re lucky I found ‘em when I did; another few hours out there and your friend would’ve been gone.” (Y/N) shuddered and the captain gave them an apologetic look before continuing. “Their food and water ran out two weeks ago and their ship was dead in the water. Whatever happened out there with Thanos…it wasn’t good.”
(Y/N) nodded, watching the others escort Tony inside as she twirled her engagement ring around her finger. “No, but Nat’s right; if there’s even a sliver of a chance of fixing all this, then we need anything that Tony can give us on that bastard.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Despite what she’d said to Natasha and Carol on the lawn of the Avengers Facility, (Y/N)’s confidence in Tony’s ability to aid them in their search for Thanos all but disappeared by the next morning. Bruce patched up the billionaire’s many battle wounds and inserted an I.V. into his arm to replenish the nutrients he’d lost after so many days without food or water, but Tony appeared almost detached throughout the entire process; he insisted on being briefed as soon as possible, so they reluctantly wheeled him into the common room and worriedly watched him twirl his spoon around his soggy cereal while they booted up the holograms of all their ongoing research. He looks like he’s been through hell, (Y/N) thought as she shared a look of concern with Steve and leaned against the table beside him while Rhodes started speaking.
“It’s been twenty-three days since Thanos came to Earth…”
(Y/N)’s jaw clenched as she averted her eyes from the holograms displaying all the faces of the friends and allies they’d lost; Sam, Wanda, Vision, Bucky, T’Challa, Shuri, Scott Lang, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, Laura Barton and all three Barton children, Sharon Carter, Peter Parker, Stephen Strange, Erik Selving, Jane Foster, Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne…she wasn’t sure which was worse, being forced to see their faces every single day since they’d gone or not having a picture of her own daughter to display as one of Thanos’ countless victims. The others weren’t immune from the emotional impact of the holograms; Steve crossed his arms tighter across his chest and pointedly looked down, Carol blinked away her tears as Nick Fury’s image faded away and Natasha cleared her throat right before Yelena Belova’s image appeared, still unwilling to accept the news of her younger sister’s loss.
“World governments are in pieces. The parts that are still working are trying to take a census, and it looks like he did…” Natasha paused for a moment to compose herself while Tony looked away from Peter Parker’s school I.D. photograph. “He did exactly what he said he was gonna do. Thanos wiped out fifty percent of all living creatures.”
The silence of the room was finally broken by Tony. “Where is he now? Where?”
“We don’t know,” Steve replied, the forced calmness of his voice wavering when he glanced up at Tony. “He just opened a portal and walked through.”
The billionaire moved to adjust his wheelchair and caught sight of Thor, who was seated alone outside in the courtyard. “And what’s wrong with him?”
“Well, he’s pissed. He thinks he failed.” Rocket’s empty gaze met all theirs and he shrugged. “Which, of course, he did, but you know, there’s a lot of that goin’ around, ain’t there?”
“Honestly, until this exact second I thought you were a Build-A-Bear.”
“Maybe I am.”
Under very different circumstances, (Y/N) would’ve smiled at Tony and Rocket’s exchange, thrilled that the two like-minded geniuses were somehow able to meet one another. But there was only one thing that she cared to focus on, and that was making Thanos pay for what he’d done. “We’ve been hunting Thanos for three weeks – deep space scans, satellites – and we’ve got nothing. Tony, I know that you’ve been through a lot but you fought him-”
“Who told you that?” (Y/N) kept her irritation in check at Tony’s blunt interruption. “I didn’t fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the Bleeker Street magician gave away the store. That’s what happened; there was no fight because he’s not beatable-”
“Okay…” Steve cut through the billionaire’s incoherent rambling, his struggle to maintain his patience evident in the way his fingers dug into the edge of the tabletop behind him. “Did he give you any clues? Any coordinates, anything?”
Tony snorted and flailed his hand in indifference, causing Steve’s grip on the tabletop to tighten in frustration as (Y/N) exchanged a knowing look with Natasha. “I saw this coming a few years back. I had a vision, I didn’t wanna believe it…thought I was dreaming.”
The super-soldier pushed himself the table and took a step forward; (Y/N) anxiously bit her lip when she noticed the divots he’d left in the wood and she felt the tension in the common room grow. “Tony, I’m gonna need you to focus-”
“And I needed you.” The billionaire’s quiet but accusatory words echoed throughout the room and (Y/N) felt herself tense up. “As in past tense. That trumps what you need; it’s too late, buddy. Sorry. You know what I need? I need to shave.” He knocked the bowl of cereal over and it clattered against the table as he stood, making all of them flinch at the harsh sound; ignoring Rhodes protests and attempts to stop him, Tony ripped the I.V. out of his arm and continued addressing the room. “And I believe I remember telling all of you, alive or otherwise, that we needed a suit of armor around the world! Remember that? Whether it impacted our precious freedoms or not, that’s what we needed.”
“Well, that didn’t work out, did it?”
(Y/N) stepped forward and rested a hand on her fiancé’s bicep. “Steve, he’s not well…”
“Nah, I’ve really never felt better, Austen. You remember that day, don’t you? You remember what happened after Ultron, right?” Tony demanded and after she slowly nodded, he turned his attention back to Steve. “I said we’d lose. You said we’d ‘do that together, too.’ But guess what, Cap? We lost, and you weren’t there.” Steve’s muscles flexed beneath her hand but he remained silent, watching with regret in his azure eyes while Rhodes unsuccessfully tried guiding Tony back into his wheelchair. “But that’s what we do, right? Our best work after the fact? We’re the A-vengers, not the Pre-vengers, right?”
“Okay, you made your point, just sit down-”
“Okay, okay,” Tony ignored his best friend’s pleas and pointed at Carol. “She’s great, by the way. We need you, you’re new blood and we’re a bunch of tired old mules!” Pushing past Rhodes, Tony walked right up to Steve and sneered. “I’ve got nothing for you, Cap, I’ve got no coordinates, no clues, no strategies, no options. Zero, zip, nada. No trust. Liar.” He ripped the arc reactor off his emaciated chest and thrust it into Steve’s hand. “Here, take this. You find him, you put that on, you take your family and hide…” He suddenly dropped to his knees and raised a shaking hand as everyone hurried to his aid. “I-I’m fine, I’m fine…”
The billionaire collapsed onto the ground and the others sprang into action; Natasha ran out of the common room to alert Bruce and Pepper of Tony’s condition while Rhodes scooped his best friend up off the ground and Carol helped them to the infirmary. (Y/N)’s gaze met Thor’s as he watched the others scramble to help Tony from his seat in the courtyard, but he quickly averted his eyes and stared down at his clasped hands. Swallowing the lump in her throat, (Y/N) turned away from the window to face Steve; the super-soldier stood rigid as he stared at the spot where Tony fell, his soldier’s composure beginning to falter as his fingers clamped around the arc reactor.
Although (Y/N) still believed that Steve made the right decision when he rejected the Sokovia Accords and went on the run, she knew that everything that transpired in Siberia between him and Tony could’ve been prevented if he’d just been honest with his friend; Tony spent the better part of two years caught between the pain of learning that Steve betrayed his trust and the hope that his friend would someday reach out to him, only for the pain to fester and the hope to slowly dissipate over time. It was a dressing-down that Steve undoubtedly earned through the choices he’d made, but hearing how those choices were the reason why they’d lost everything to Thanos wasn’t what the super-soldier needed to hear. Not after losing our Carina, (Y/N) thought as she took a steadying breath, cautiously stepping forward and allowing a tearful Steve to pull her into a tight embrace.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Bruce gave him a sedative,” Rhodes announced to the four of them after stepping out of the infirmary; inside, Tony slept in a hospital bed while Pepper and Bruce shared a hushed conversation at his bedside. “He’s gonna probably be out the rest of the day.”
(Y/N) opened her mouth to ask the others what their next step would be but was interrupted by Carol. “You guys take care of him, and I’ll bring him a bottle of Xorrian elixir when I get back.”
The captain began heading back to the common room and (Y/N)’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Carol, where are you going?”
“To kill Thanos.”
Exchanging matching looks of apprehension, the three of them hurried after Natasha as she caught up with the older woman first. “Hey. You know, we usually work as a team here and between you and me, morale’s a little fragile.”
“We realize that up there’s more your territory,” Steve added. “But this is our fight, too.”
Carol sighed. “Look, you guys did an incredible job and that’s more than what countless planets across the galaxy can say; they’re the ones that Thanos decimated without breaking a sweat, the ones that were the first to suffer by his hand and the ones that I failed to protect. I owe it to them to put an end to Thanos once and for all.”
“And we owe it to our daughter to do whatever it takes to bring her back.” (Y/N)’s voice caught in her throat and an empathetic look crossed the captain’s face. “I don’t even know if that’s possible or not, but the only way we’re going to find out is if we all go after Thanos together.”
Rhodes nodded in agreement from his spot near the doorway. “Do you even know where he is?”
“I know people who might-”
“Don’t bother.” They all looked over at Nebula, the blue-skinned woman who’d gotten off the Benatar alongside Tony and one of the Guardians of the Galaxy; her raspy voice was filled with a heavy emotion as she stepped into the common room. “I can tell you where Thanos is.”
While Natasha left to fetch Bruce and Thor, Rocket switched on the hologram devices and began to input new data and Steve guided (Y/N) off to the side for a moment alone. “Do you really think that there’s a way to bring Carina back? To bring everyone we lost back?”
“Steve, you saw everything that those stones could do; if they could make half the universe disappear in the blink of an eye, then there’s no reason not to believe that they could bring them back.” She wrapped her arms around herself as she looked into Steve’s azure eyes. “But we won’t know unless we try.”
Nodding, Steve’s hand cupped her cheek as he pressed a soft kiss onto her forehead. “And we will, sunshine. Whatever it takes.”
They pulled away from one another as the others filed into the common room; Thor carried his bowl of food over to the dining room table and began picking at it while they turned their attention to Nebula. “Thanos spent a long time trying to…perfect me. When he worked, he talked. About his Great Plan. Even disassembled, I wanted to please him.” Nebula shifted uncomfortably and (Y/N) felt a pang of sympathy, unable to imagine what the warrior’s life had been like under the Mad Titan. “I’d ask, where would we go once his plan was complete? His answer was always the same: ‘To the Garden.’”
Rhodes’ brow rose in surprise. “You’re saying Thanos had a retirement plan?”
“Where is he?”
Standing on the table they encircled, Rocket pressed a button and brought up a holo-map of Earth that showed the planet being engulfed in a wave of energy. “When Thanos snapped his fingers, Earth became Gound Zero for a power surge of ridiculously-cosmic proportions. No one’s seen anything like it…” He shifted the map around to show an orange-colored planet as an identical wave of energy encompassed it. “Until two days ago, on this planet.”
“He used the stones again…” Natasha murmured as she leaned in to take a closer look at the holo-map.
“Hey, hey, hey, we’d be going in shorthanded, you know…”
“And he’s still got the stones…”
“So, let’s get ‘em.” Carol glanced over at (Y/N) with a glimmer of hope in her eyes. “We’ll use them to get everyone back.”
Bruce looked unconvinced. “Just like that?”
“Yeah.” Steve nodded. “Just like that.”
“It’s like (Y/N) said, even if there’s a small chance that we can undo this, we owe it to everyone who’s not in this room to try.”
Natasha’s words resonated throughout the entire room, and (Y/N) glanced around to gage her friends’ reactions; Steve, Natasha and Carol looked the most on-board with their fledgling plan, Rocket and Nebula seemed more cautious but ultimately agreeable, and both Bruce and Rhodes’ expressions were filled with apprehension, with the scientist looking slightly worried as he addressed the room. “If we do this, how do we know it’s gonna end any differently than it did before?”
Across the room, Carol gave them a small smile. “Because before you didn’t have me.”
(Y/N) exchanged a knowing look with Natasha while Rhodes heaved a sigh. “Hey, new girl? Everybody in here’s about that superhero life; where’ve you been all this time?”
“There’s a lot of people in the universe, and they didn’t all have you.”
Thor’s chair scraped against the floor as he stood and crossed the common room to stand before Carol; the stoic Asgardian held his hand out and Stormbreaker blew past the captain, ruffling her blonde hair as it swiftly flew into his grasp. When Carol didn’t flinch and even gave him the barest hint of a smile while they sized one another up, Thor looked over at the rest of them and nodded. “I like this one.”
(Y/N) turned to Steve, who was still studying the rotating orange planet at the center of Rocket’s holo-map. After a long, deciding moment, the super-soldier looked up at her with a fierce determination simmering in his azure eyes and she found herself beginning to smile as he finally spoke. “Let’s go get this son of a bitch.”
Repopulate (Epilogue)
Tumblr media
Summary: Thanos won; the Avengers lost. Now the government decided the world needs repopulation. You find yourself bound to a man you will have to call your husband from now on. Can you work things out?
Pairing: Nomad!Steve Rogers x Reader
Characters: Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Dr. Strange
Warnings: heavy angst, characters death, grief, fighting, blood, alternative universes, incorrect au theory, astral projection, fluff
A/N: Consider I do not follow the timeline of Endgame. This means they found Tony and shortly after Scott returns from the Quantum Realm for my story. Clint was with the Avengers most of the time. (He missed the battle, though)
A/N2: Phew…I finally got this done. Man, it took me ages to bring out the ending. Maybe as I didn’t want to end it that way…
Around one year later, …
There is a flicker and then a blinding light. You scream, feeling your body gets thrown against a wall and another, and then nothing but pain until you open your eyes to watch your reality alter in slow motion.
One moment Steve told you they are ready to undo the impossible, and the next, you stand on a battlefield, next to your husband, feeling nothing but pain. There is a dull ache in your body that doesn’t seem to want to fade.
You remember that you insisted on going with Steve to get another infinity stone. You remember he kissed you, begging you to stay with him. You remember that you embraced death and set the soul stone free.
It was always meant to end this way. You know this now, and don’t look back in anger. Your life for so many others. A good trade in your opinion. A bad one to Steve.
“I’m here now,” it seems as if he cannot see or feel you are next to him when you place your hand on his shoulders. You are not used to being bodiless, reduced to a mere memory burned into Steve’s memory.
He could undo the impossible but not save the woman he loved…
Steve is beaten, bloody, and on his knees. His shield is broken, and he holds his bleeding side. There is not much hope left, even though, he fought so hard.
“I can do this all day,” he says, stubbornly looking up at a tall man, or rather a monster. The creature sneers and even dares to chuckle as his eyes land on you standing next to Steve.
“You and which army?” dust hits your face, and the wind seems to tell you about a lost battle when noises catch your attention. You look around to find all the people you remember saving you and the world more than once assemble behind Steve. “Oh, you brought…”
“Avengers, assemble,” Steve rams the shield into the ground to get back on his feet. “This isn’t over. We won’t lose again.”
“You did once, you will again,” Thanos looks you straight in the eyes, grinning. “What do we have here? A little mouse spying on the future? What are you, girl? A time-traveler or a nice sacrificial lamb for me to enjoy?”
“You can see me,” it’s a whimpered plea as Thanos reaches out for you. You fade away and turn into dust right in front of his eyes. “Steve, you can do it.” You whisper into the void that is now your existence. “I believe in you…in all of you…”
“Girl,” Steve looks around as his friends and allies gather around him to fight the impossible fight once again. “Where did she go?”
“Y/N,” Steve whimpers your name as he presses his broken shield to his chest. “I shouldn’t have taken you with me to get the stone. I should’ve left you behind and kept you safe.”
“A sacrificial lamb then,” Steve’s opponent chuckles darkly. “The soul stone, I assume. Was it hard to give up your sweet love for the world? Captain, oh Captain. The eternal selfless hero gives up hope and love for dust, dirt, and another lost battle.
“We won’t lose this time,” the is a fire in Steve’s eyes as he balls his hand into a fist. He’s mustering up all the strength that’s left in him since he lost you to the soul stone. “Not again.”
“We will see. Now,” Thanos smirks, looking down at Steve. “Let’s do this. It won’t take long, I assume…”
“I.” Steve rams the broken shield into Thanos' chest. “Can.” He lands a punch on the monster’s face. “Do.” He slams his shield right into Thanos' face. “This.” Steve glares up at the monster taking so much from him. “All.”
Thor calls out for Steve, throwing Mjolnir at Steve and the super-soldier easily catches it. “I knew it!” the Asgardian exclaims as Steve finds the courage to stand his ground against Thanos again.
“DAY!” Steve rams the hammer into Thanos' face, causing his opponent to get thrown over the battlefield to end up on the ground, bleeding.
“I’m not used to bleeding,” Thanos gets back up, laughing loudly as he touches his bleeding face. “This might even get interesting this time…”
“Well, no shit Sherlock,” Tony fights his way through the masses to get to Steve. “We came here to entertain you, nothing else.” Thanos looks at Tony, frowning as he doesn’t recognize the new fighter. “OH, I see you don’t recognize my face. I’m the guy ending up in your crappy airship. I hate to break it for you, but Earth is closed forever for you and your buddies.”
“Let’s finish this,” Rocket complains. “I want that glove when we are done.” He smirks and runs toward the next enemy. “Eat this!”
“Well, as the rabbit said,” Tony stands next to Steve, placing his hand on the super-soldier's shoulder. “We are going to bring him down. For Y/N!”
“For Y/N,” the crowd cheers, calling out your name before they fight their way through the endless stream of enemies.
“We will make her proud,” Steve concludes and then, he throws himself into his last battle. Gives his all one last time…
 - Flashback -
“Stevie, it’s alright,” you whisper, cupping his face with both hands. “If we can get everyone back and defeat Thanos, I’m willing to make this sacrifice.”
“Well, I don’t. Doll, I will not sacrifice you for—” your lips silence his protests. Tears run down your face as you drink in his familiar taste in and engulf in his warm embrace one last time. You saw this coming.
Your sixth sense told you that if you go with Steve, this time you’ll not come back. You dreamed of this place weeks before they settled for a plan. It was only a matter of time before you’ll end up here and find your end.
“It’s okay. Get the stone and bring all the people back,” you push Steve away, and run toward the edge while turning your head to give him one last glance. “I love you, always will. You can do it, Steven Grant Rogers. I believe in you…”
…and then you jump, eyes closed as the stone takes your offered sacrifice and hands the soul stone over in return.
“NO!” Steve falls to his knees, hands grasping for you, but you’re not there anymore. “Y/N, please…”
“A life for the stone. Love for despair,” Red Skull recites as he drops the soul stone in front of Steve. “This place looks so peaceful but inherits chaos and pain. A good place to spend my time at until my existence ends...if it ever ends...
- End of flashback -
Steve wakes from yet another nightmare. He can still feel your hand on his face and your lips against his lips. He calls out your name, desperately looking for you next to him. “Y/N, no…”
Sleep won’t come again for tonight, so he gets up to aimlessly wander around the town. Steve looks into the windows of the apartment complexes, the ones he and his friends filled with life and hope again.
“A man out of time,” he mumbles as he watches a pair kiss and hug. He looks away, not wanting to act like a creep as they pass him by. “This world doesn’t have anything to offer to me any longer. Why even try? Right?”
“Sir, you can’t be here out so late,” Steve lifts his gaze to look at the police officer looking sternly in his direction. “Why are you out so late? OH, crap. Sorry, Captain.”
“Just Steve,” the super-soldier sighs deeply. “I was on my way back home.” He lies. The flowers in his hands tell a different story.
Steve places a flower at every place reminding him of you. Your first apartment. The park you told him about. The old broken hideout. Your grave…
“Nice flowers,” the cop says. “The lady will be very happy.”
“I guess,” he nods. What else can he do? He can’t tell the stranger about your fate and that he barely is alive since you are gone.
“Steve, are you sure you want to do this?” Sam watches his friend stare at the platform. “I could do it, or someone else. We all know you are still…” Sam’s voice cracks and he bites his tongue to not say the wrong thing.
He didn’t get the chance to get to know you. All he knows is that Steve lost the woman he loved and now, his friend doesn’t know how to move on from you, and the life he shared with you.
“I could go too,” Bucky steps in. He glances at the wedding band around his friend’s finger, huffing as Steve won’t give in. “Steve, let me do it.”
“No, Buck,” Steve forces a pained smile on his face. “You’ve done enough. This is my mission and I’ll fulfill it.”
“Steve, you must let go of me,” you stand next to Steve as he looks at the platform again. He offered to return the stones after they won the battle. “Don’t do anything stupid, my love.”
You place your hand on his shoulder, sighing as Steve can’t hear you. “Y/N,” Steve whispers as he looks around the area. He silently says goodbye to all of his friends, “soon I’ll be with you. Just a little longer, doll.”
“We are ready,” Bruce calls out, nodding at Steve. “If you are ready, we can begin.”
“I—” nodding Steve looks at his friends again. He remembers all the battles they fought together, the losses they endured, and their friendship. “I wanted to thank you all for fighting with me one last time. I—I will retire, and the shield will go to Sam.”
Steve steps onto the platform. He nods at Bucky who gets the shield out of a bag. “He said you are the one he sees becoming a new Captain, the one this world needs now,” Bucky says. “I know you will make him proud.”
“Steve, I,” the machine starts working and Sam has the sinking feeling that he will not see his friend again, “I will make you proud, my friend. Good luck.”
“Thank you—” Steve says. He nods at his friends, cracking one last smile before he’s gone.
He will not return to this timeline, nor his friends. Steve has one last mission to fulfill, and then he can rest…forever…
Tumblr media
“I did what you asked me to do,” Steve looks around the deserted place. “Now tell me, sorcerer, where is she?”
“It was a hard piece of work,” Strange slides his fingers over the Eye of Agamotto, nodding at Steve. “You know, there will be no leaving this place. Only you, your girl, and this cabin for the rest of, well, eternity. Are you willing to give up your life to spend it here, within the ether?”
“Bring her back,” the super-soldier angrily spits out. “I gave up everything to save the world and bring all the people back. I want only her. I don’t care we can only exist in this world.”
“Very well…”
Tumblr media
“Stevie,” you run out of the cabin and toward your husband. He picks you up to twirl you around, making you giggle and laugh. “How did you get here? I thought only I can exist in this place.”
“It’s an alternative universe Strange created only for you, and me,” Steve carefully puts you back down to take his time and look you all over. He drinks you in, smiling fondly. “I thought I lost you forever, Y/N.”
“When I fell, and after you got the stone, a blinding light surrounded me. I stopped falling and then, I got here,” you explain. “I was so lonely and then this man came and told me that he’ll bring you here. I didn’t believe him, though.”
“I felt you, on the battlefield,” Steve kisses you. It’s a desperate kiss and he puts all of his emotions into the kiss. “You were there.”
“I was an astral projection. The wizard sent me to you to encourage you and the others. I didn’t think you felt me,” you hide your face in his chest, crying bitterly. “You gave up everything to come here.”
“I’d walk through hell and back for you. I put the shield down. There is nothing else for me to do than to spend an eternity with you.”
“…and an eternity it will be, Captain,” Dr. Strange muses. “Sorry, I didn’t want to disturb your reunion. You should know, that your wife can only ever exist in this place. In a way, she died. I had to let it happen. But I brought her body and soul back right after she fell.”
“I know,” Steve mumbles against your temple. “I don’t plan on leaving this place. My fight is over, and so is Y/N’s. We gave our all to save the world. It is enough.”
“As long as none of you leaves the ether, you will exist for…eternity…” Strange turns to leave your new home. The sorcerer smiles as you and Steve hold each other to renew your bond. “…and by the way, I’m a sorcerer, not a wizard…”
THE END...it’s finally here...
x
You're here. You finally did it. You finally got off that god-forsaken planet. It took months to achieve, especially since Loki's hidden crevasses were super hard to find and navigate. Still, you're back on Earth and ready to help with Phil's Tesseract problem.
You look around the area to assess your surroundings when you notice the Bifrost marking on the ground. The same marking you stood next to after the battle with the Destroyer. You're in New Mexico and you can only assume Fury and Phil are in New York with the Tesseract. After nearly twenty years away from the thing that gave you powers, you have the opportunity to be face-to-face with it again.
The thing that has been the bane of your existence. The Tesseract is the cause of all your problems. If Markus didn't know about it, you might not have been an Avatar. If you're not an Avatar, you might not have found your way to Earth. If you hadn't come to Earth, you would have never met Ikaris, Bucky, Steve, Carol, Fury, Tony, and so many other people who are important to you.
You both hate and love what the Tesseract has done for you. It's time to finally face it.
It takes a normal commercial airplane six hours to get from New Mexico to New York, but you do it in three. Fury hasn't changed his office since acquiring it back in 1995 so it's easy to spot amid all the new stores. It's been a few years since you've been back in this state, and it seems like everything and nothing has changed. There are new stores that weren't here before but the same crowds bustle up and down the streets.
If you close your eyes, you can picture what New York was like in the 1940s. All the modern screens you see weren't there back then. It was crowded with short buildings and billboards that people changed out every week by hand. There weren't the designer-brand stores you see now but mom-and-pop stores that did quite well for their time. Each restaurant had a small space on the strip, but that didn't mean their food wasn't delicious.
Centuries before that in the 1700s, New York was completely a whole different world. The roads weren't paved, everyone rode horses everywhere, and there was no Central Park to hang out in. It's weird how different one city can look every couple hundred years. What will the world look like in 2200?
You walk through the bustling city to get to Nick's office, and you stroll right in as if you belong there. His assistant is baffled when you walk right past him, and you pay no mind to him.
"Ma'am, you can't just walk right in there!" he says and chases after you. You knock once and enter his office, and Fury looks up from his desk. "Ma'am, you need an appointment!"
"It's alright, George. I can handle this."
George mumbles a few curse words before walking away. You close the door behind him and turn to Fury with crossed arms.
"Where the hell have you been?"
"Stuck on another planet with no way out. I know it's only been a few months but I'm here now."
"A few months? Try a couple of years."
"What are you talking about?"
"You've been MIA for two years. I thought you were dead."
You fall back into a chair across from his desk in shock.
"No, you're messing with me."
"I wish I was."
"I got a message from Phil four months ago saying you found the Tesseract."
"He sent that two years ago. It's 2012."
You look down and try to wrap your head around the fact that time works differently on Asgard than it does on Earth. Two years. Wow, you can't believe it.
"O-Okay, um, do you still have the Tesseract?"
"We've been permitted to study it a year ago. It's been docile for the most part. We're still trying to see what it is and what its power is.
"I can tell you that. It's not just a cube. It's an Infinity Stone which is very powerful. If you're tampering with it, you won't like what comes out of it."
"See, this is why we needed you here months ago. I just got reports that something is happening at the lab. Care to join me?"
"Yeah. Let's go."
You're a bit eager to see the cube that gave you your powers. It's been calling to you since arriving on Earth, and you can't ignore it anymore.
You and Fury head to the parking garage and meet with his right-hand woman, Maria Hill. You two pile into the backseat while Fury gets hold of the wheel. Without even knowing her, she's a bit apprehensive that you're here on such a sensitive project.
"How do you know Nick?" she asks.
"I'm sure you've heard about what happened to him in 1995."
"You mean the year he lost sight of his eye?" she chuckles.
"Yeah, exactly." Fury gives you a look in the rear-view mirror but you wave him off. "I was there. Carol and I are the reason Nick came up with the Avengers Initiative. The Tesseract is what gave me half my powers. The Tesseract is like a door, a portal that can transport anyone anywhere in the universe. I spent a lot of time studying it."
"Where were you a couple of months ago?"
"Stranded on another planet, but I'm here now."
Fury drives to a helicopter pad that will transport you to the facility they have in the middle of nowhere. Fury must have been building this facility for a while now because it's huge. After all, he had two years to put something like this together. Man, two years. You still can't believe it. This is the place where you can test something like the Tesseract. When you step off the helicopter, you're greeted by Phil Coulson who has taken point for the entire facility. Men in suits run around the place, soldiers jump into Humvees, and a voice bellows from the loudspeakers.
"So much for a device to use if I need you," Phil says when he sees you.
"I am so sorry. I thought it was only four months. I tried so hard to get back here as fast as I could. Time passes differently on Asgard."
"How bad is it?" Fury asks, interrupting your apology.
"That's the problem, sir. We don't know." Phil leads you, Fury, and Maria through the radiation section of the facility. There are tons of signs around warning about the dangers of radiation exposure. Hundreds of technicians and other staff run around, taking only the essentials. It must be pretty bad if everyone is evacuating. "Dr. Selvig read an energy surge from the Tesseract four hours ago."
"Erik is here?" you ask but receive no answer.
"NASA didn't authorize Selvig to test phase."
"He wasn't testing it. He wasn't even in the room. Spontaneous advancement."
"It turned itself on?" Maria asks, surprised.
"Not surprising. It is an energy source," you say.
"What are the energy levels now?"
"Climbing. When Selvig couldn't shut it down, we ordered the evac."
"How long to get everyone out?"
"Campus should be clear in the next half hour."
"Do better."
Phil immediately turns and leaves to help with the evacuation.
"Sir, evacuation may be futile."
"You're suggesting we should tell them to go back to sleep?" Fury asks Maria.
"If we can't control the Tesseract's energy, there may not be a minimum safe distance."
"I might be able to help with that. I have its power. I can try and control it."
"This is why I brought you along," Fury says to you before turning to Maria. "I need you to make sure that Phase 2 prototypes are shipped out."
"Sir, is that really a priority right now?"
"Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on. Clear out the tech below. Put every piece of Phase 2 on a truck and gone."
"Yes, sir."
"What's Phase 2?" you ask when you continue alone with Fury.
"Need-to-know, and you don't need to know." Man, two years being gone has done a number on him. You two walk into the lab facility holding the Tesseract. "Talk to me, doctor."
Erik looks up at Fury when he looks at you.
"Y/N? I thought you were on Asgard."
"I was. I got out. Are you the only one here? Where's Jane?"
"Nowhere here, thankfully."
You look at the bright cube across the other end of the room and feel a magnetic pull trying to get you to come closer. The longer you stare at it, the more you're mesmerized by it. Your hands glow a soft orange without your permission. Fury does a double take at you and places his hand on your shoulder. It's enough to snap you out of your trance.
"What? Sorry," you shake your head.
"What can you tell us, Doctor?"
"The Tesseract is... misbehaving."
"Is that supposed to be funny?"
"No, it's not funny at all. The Tesseract is not only active, she's... misbehaving. She's an energy source. If we turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level..."
"We've prepared for this, Doctor. Harnessing energy from space."
"We don't have the harness. Our calculations are far from complete. Now she's throwing off interference and radiation. Nothing harmful, just low levels of gamma radiation."
"That can be harmful. Where's Barton?"
"The Hawk? Up in his nest, as usual."
You look up to see one of the first agents Fury recruited for his Avenger team. You have not yet had the pleasure of meeting him, but you are now.
"Agent Barton, report."
As Clint is making his way down, you look at Fury in concern.
"Erik is right. You can't harness energy from space. Humans aren't that advanced."
"This facility is." Clint approaches Fury from behind, and the older agent turns to the younger one. "I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things."
"I see better from a distance."
"Hi, I'm Y/N."
"Yeah, I saw you two years ago trying to get that hammer."
"Right."
Why are you feeling like you don't belong here? The only thing you have in common with everyone else is the fact that you have the same power as the Tesseract.
"Are you seeing anything that might set this thing off?"
"No one's come or gone. There hasn't been any contact from it. If there was any tampering, sir, it wasn't at this end."
"At this end?"
"Yeah, the cube is a doorway to the other end of space, right? The door's open from both sides."
The Tesseract has flares coming out the sides of it. Energy is pouring into the room rapidly, so much so that it shakes the entire facility. It's big enough that Phil and Maria can feel it from where they are on the other end of the facility.
The flaring rings and glow of the cube spout out brighter and louder, like a boiling pot of water. The Tesseract's energy builds up into a beam much like the Bifrost Bridge, which hits at the end of a platform that is wired to the device the cube sits on. The beam forms a vortex which opens a portal much like what you can do on your own.
Everyone is on alert now that the door has been opened. Everything is still for five minutes. No one is breathing, moving, or doing anything that might disrupt the Tesseract's power. Suddenly someone steps through the portal with his head down. He is heavily breathing as if he had just run a marathon. He is holding a staff in his hands that looks like Gungnir but has a glowing gem on the sharp end of the staff.
He looks up to address the room and your heart stops. It's Loki. He died. You watched him fall to his death. He looks around the room at everyone before locking eyes with you. He seems to go rigid at the thought of facing you once again. After two years of not seeing him, memories come rushing to the surface of your mind.
He's coming. Someone tipped him off and he's on his way to get you. Asgard is preparing for another fight not knowing if Markus is coming for more than just you. It's been a year of peace away from the horrors of Markus. You've fallen in love with Loki; you can't bear the thought of leaving him.
You and Loki are in his room. There are sounds of battle happening in the castle. You can hear Markus yelling for you.
"I don't want to leave here," you cry in Loki's arms. "Please don't let him take me. I want to stay with you."
Loki pulls you close and kisses you passionately as if it's going to be the last time. Your tears mix in with his kiss but he doesn't seem to mind. You were meant to be in his arms. He fits so perfectly around you. His lips were made to kiss yours. He pulls away from you and rests his forehead on yours.
"I love you, Loki. I am in love with you."
Loki's tears fall down his cheeks as if what you said pains him. He kisses you once more before cupping your cheeks in his large hands.
"I am so sorry," he whispers.
"For what?"
He doesn't answer. His magic glimmers around you and seeps into your head, and your eyes shine green to match what he's doing to you. The next thing you remember, you're back on Xenia with Markus.
The bastard really did take your life from you. You were so much in love with Loki that you begged him to save you. He turned you in instead.
chapter list
_________________________________________
Steve had been gone less than an hour when Gianna began to get restless. Her phone was nowhere to be found. Well, none of her belongings seemed to have made it to this pristine medical suite. There was a large screen built into the wall in front of her, but no remote in sight.
Sighing, she leaned back into the surprisingly plush bedding. There was a time when all she craved was a few moments of peace, left alone in her room. Now, everything in her was praying for that peace to be interrupted. Specifically by something dark haired and 100+ years old.
Whoosh.
Gianna’s eyes blinked open as she heard the door part to allow someone in. Not just someone, but the interruption she’d been hoping for. Her chest flooded with relief at the same time her stomach filled with butterflies.
Bucky stepped into the room, sheepish eyes looking tentatively up at her.
“Hi,” She said breathlessly, kicking herself for not thinking of something wittier.
“Hi,” He paused, holding his hands up. “I come bearing gifts.”
Gianna hadn’t even noticed his hands being full. Eyes widening, she sat up straight in bed and pulled her legs in to sit cross legged so he’d have room to join her.
“You didn’t!”
“I did. Hot dogs, a blueberry scone, and the biggest Coke I could find.” He strode across the room and sat beside her on the bed, accepting the nonverbal invitation. “The hot dogs aren’t from the stand on 17th, though. I thought they may not be good if I went all the way back to the city.” He shrugged, offering her one of the two paper bags in his hand.
“My hero,” She snatched them both from his grip, tearing open the smaller one and taking the large pastry out before pausing. “For more reasons than just this.”
For a moment, their eyes met with quiet sincerity. Bucky opened his mouth to speak, to apologize, but Gianna interrupted him.
“But mostly just the scone.” She winked, taking a bite and letting crumbs litter the bed. He laughed, thankful for their prompt return to normalcy but still wishing he could tell her how sorry he was.
“How do you feel?”
“Better now,” She said through a full mouth. “A little stiff, head kinda hurts. I haven’t moved a whole lot since I woke up though, I could be giving myself too much credit.”
Bucky nodded, eyes wandering over the cut on her eyebrow and bruising peeking through the top of her gown.
“So what’s the deal now?”
“What do you mean?” His eyebrow furrowed.
“Did Dr. Cho communicate with Tom? He’ll need to know my discharge date.” She paused in between bites. “The label doesn’t do well with my unplanned downtime. When I had my appendix out, they had to reschedule my appearance on Fallon and you’d have thought the sky was falling. They still only moved it back one day. The whole internet was talking about how I must have had a drug problem because of how awful I looked, meanwhile I was just trying not to tear my stitches in the little dress they stuck me in.”
She was so nonchalant about such a horrible experience that Bucky felt a knot of anger in his stomach. He shoved it back down before responding, choosing his words carefully.
“G…I don’t think it’s such a good idea for you to go back to the tour.”
Gianna froze, looking straight back at him with a hot dog clutched in her hand.
“That’s not an option, the label would never go for that. My contract is airtight, if I don’t fulfill my agreement then I have to pay back all the money I've made in the past five years.” She looked down at her lap. “I was seventeen when I signed with them. I didn’t know I was supposed to talk to an attorney before I signed.”
Frowning, Bucky rested his hand on her knee. “Let’s not worry about that right now. Just focus on healing and eating the most well-deserved hot dog of all time.” He gave her a soft smile, watching as she nodded and went back to eating.
As she wiped her face with a napkin, the door slid open again to reveal a sharply-dressed Tony Stark and Pepper Potts.
"Hey, lovebirds. We need to talk," Tony said, a serious expression on his face. He stepped into the room, Pepper close behind.
Gianna and Bucky looked up, surprised. "What's going on?" Bucky asked, ready to jump to the defensive if more bad news was about to be thrown their way.
"We need to get ahead of the news cycle. Our PR team is suggesting hosting a press conference to address the situation and reassure the public that Gianna is safe," Pepper explained. “Your management agrees.”
“We’ve been through this a time or two, kiddo, and if you don’t get to say your piece then the media will write their own.” Tony added.
“Yeah…I get it.” Gianna spoke slowly, unsure what she’d even say considering she had the fewest details about the attack of all three people in the room. As if reading her thoughts, Pepper spoke again.
Tumblr media
“We’ll have a private debriefing first, give you all the information you want to know. It would be monitored by our team, they’d send a list of approved questions and make sure things run smoothly. Anything you don’t want to answer, you don’t have to.” She gave a reassuring smile. Gianna was put at ease by the calm and comforting energy she seemed to bring into the room.
"Whatever you think is best," Gianna said, her voice quiet. “You’ll have to find me a brush or something, though. I don’t think this is my best look.”
Tony scoffed. “Haven’t you heard, heroine chic is all the rage these days.” Pepper gave him a sharp elbow in the side before smiling softly again.
“I can do you one better.” Even her eyes reflected the warmth of her smile when she spoke. “I’ll see to it that your belongings are all brought to your room and that we have wardrobe options available for you. I’ll get your measurements to our personal shopper. I’m thinking something Chanel, classy but feminine. Oh, and I assume you’ll want your own makeup artist?”
Gianna nodded. I want this woman to adopt me. Wow.
“Good, because Tony’s makeup artist is fully booked.” Pepper gave a wry smile and winked. “If you need anything, just tell FRIDAY to send for me.”
“Hang in there kiddo,” Tony called as he turned to follow Pepper through the door. “Oh, and Barnes, keep the extracurricular activities to a minimum. These medical beds aren’t built to withstand whatever your idea of a passionate reunion is.”
Bucky rolled his eyes, cheeks flushing despite himself. As the door whooshed shut behind them, Bucky reached for Gianna’s hand, careful not to rustle the IV on the back of it.
Tumblr media
Bucky squeezed her hand, offering his support. "We'll get through this, together," he said, his eyes meeting hers. She nodded, the sudden overwhelm of the whole situation making her eyes watery.
“Hey, hey…” Shifting his body to face hers fully, Bucky reached out and cupped her cheek in his hand. A single hot tear cascaded over his fingers. “What can I do?”
Gianna gave a watery smile. “You’re already doing it.” She reached up and rested her hand over his, leaning her cheek into his palm. “It’s just…a lot.”
“Yeah. It’s not exactly an average work day.”
“You know you were the first person I looked for? When…everything happened. I didn’t even know what was going on. My ears were ringing…my head felt like it weighed a thousand pounds…all I could think of was just getting to you. If I could just lift my head and look for you, everything would be okay.”
Bucky’s face fell. “I’m so sorry…I should have been there. I shouldn’t have left your side, even for a second, I-”
“Don’t do that,” Gianna tilted his head up and met his gaze. “You’ve been everything to me on this tour. You’ve been my company, my sanity…you’ve been so much more than you had to be.”
“But the one thing I was supposed to do was protect you. I failed.” His voice was gruff.
“Look at me,” She tilted his head up again. “I’m here, aren’t I? Whatever the plan was, it failed. Not you. I’m all in one piece, that’s probably more than whoever came after me can say now that you’re done with them.”
Bucky gave a half-hearted smile.
“Seriously, Buck, I’m a little bruised. That’s all. I’ve seen you eat an apple that’s in worse shape than me.” She gave him a light shove.
“Hey, there weren’t many options in that green room and I knew better than to dig into your candy stash.”
“If you want to see a real diva, just take away my sour gummy worms.”
They let their soft laughter die out and sat in silence for a moment.
“I’m glad you’re okay.”
“I’m glad you’re here.”
Gianna leaned her head onto Bucky’s shoulder like she had so many times before. This medical suite replaced the back of a suburban, but the comfort and familiarity was unwavering.
“Ms. Cruz, Sergeant Barnes. Wanda Maximoff is requesting access to Ms. Cruz’ medical bay. Should I send her in? She would like it to be noted that she’s baked strawberry cupcakes as a gift.”
Sitting up straight, Gianna looked equally confused and intrigued at the electronic voice that filled the room. She met Bucky’s eyes and shrugged, smiling. He spoke up to respond.
“Sure, FRIDAY, send her in.”
