Cat Dad
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: Your boyfriend is being held captive and you're the only one who can save him.
Word Count: 700
A/N: I would like to try something for Moon Knight! Let me know what you'd like to see. (No promises it won't be garbage though.)
Tumblr media
If you ever told the rest of the Avengers that Bucky Barnes was a complete cat dad, they would scoff and laugh in your face. But they didn’t get to see him like you did. The times he would spend at least half an hour in the toy aisle every time the two of you went to buy Alpine more food always saying “C’mon we have to get this for her, she’d love it!”. When he refused to move anytime she curled up on his lap, or the time he insisted she needed a soft bed in each room of the apartment, lest she wanted to curl up near you guys but couldn’t find a comfy spot.
You wouldn’t be the one to tell him that she never used the beds he had purchased and would more often than not find herself curled up and purring in your reading chair that was conveniently located underneath the window so the light hit it just right.
He always said he would do anything for you two, “his girls” he had called you. Except for that tonight Alpine seemed to be pushing every single one of his buttons. Bucky is a patient man, he’s always in his head so it’s sometimes hard to see what he’s feeling. But you had gotten really good at reading him and you could read the tension in his shoulders and the slow and pronounced breaths he was taking that something had him on edge.
You slipped out of the kitchen and towards the living space, Bucky was on the couch, his back leaning against the arm of the sectional and his legs stretched out in front of him, holding up the laptop that he was using to finish up his mission reports for Sam. The boys weren’t officially working for the government but had some affiliations which meant that a paper trail needed to be kept. You could immediately see what was getting Buck worked up, Alpine had taken it upon herself to position herself in her dad’s lap in such a way that she was covering half of the keyboard. The sight was hilarious, and you couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. Bucky was so sweet, and despite the fact that this report needed to be finished today, your sweet boyfriend was not going to move the cat off of his lap, even if it would make his life so much easier.
When the sound of your soft laugh reached his ears, Bucky’s eyes shot up at you. They screamed for help. You wouldn’t be able to stop the smile that spread across your cheeks if you tried.
“What’s going on in here?” You innocently asked.
“Doll, thank God. Can you please take her?” You could hear the desperation in his voice, he really didn’t want to push her down but he couldn’t get his work done while she sprawled across him.
“I don’t know Buck she seems pretty comfy, I would hate to disturb her.” he shot you a look that screamed betrayal. “Don’t look at me like that she’s your child.”
“You’re doing this to mess with me. You normally don’t have any problem moving her especially when she’s in your chair,” he called you out.
“But she’s not in my chair so I don’t need to move her” You cheekily threw back at him.
“Honey, Princess, Love of my life would you pretty, pretty please take our girl off my lap so I can finish my work?” He pleaded with you.
“Hmmm, what will you give me if I do?”
“Anything you want Doll, I’d give you the world if I could you know that.” He was trying to sweet-talk you into helping it out, and it almost worked.
“That’s sweet but I think I’m gonna let you suffer a little longer, you should think of this before you eat the rest of my cookies next time. The Girl Scouts only sell those things once a year.” You turned and started to walk away.
“When she gets up you’re gonna get it.” He called out after you.
“Looking forward to it Baby,” You called back.

i dont believe in love at first sight... but god-damn - part one
Tumblr media
pairing: buck barnes x reader
summary: its not normal for bucky to instantly feel something for a women. but you're just too good to ignore...
includes: strangers to lovers, inferred female reader (pronouns, descriptions, etc), implied smut?, alcohol intoxication, drinking, steve rogers ofc, story doesnt really follow any movie plots so no spoliers!, all characters are of drinking age, pet names?: sweetheart, doll
Tumblr media
the night has barely even started and you're already halfway drunk, laughing over the loud music with your friend at the bar. your best friend, steve, orders another round and turns to you.
"are we just gonna sit here all night or are you finally gonna find someone to go home with?" steve cocks his head playfully and smiles, his obvious playful demeanor poking right through.
you roll your eyes, taking a sip of your drink, "psh. you really think anyone here wants me? plus we're in the bad part of town, i'd probably get murdered."
"not necessarily, i know plenty of good people that go here often. and you know, actually, i think today's the day that my friend bucky comes and grabs a couple drinks."
you smile, "ahh the infamous bucky, i would love to meet him, he's all you used to talk about after all."
steve agrees with you that if bucky shows up he'll introduce you, so you lay back on the drinks just in case you like the guy.
an hour or so pass with you a steve laughing about god knows what and getting excited when one of you twos favorite songs play. you almost forget you might be meeting bucky when steves face lights up towards the door and waves.
"hey bucky! over here!" steve motions for bucky to join the two of you.
you turn around and your heart pounds, the man walking over is gorgeous, even the way he walks over to the two of you sends heat to your face.
buckys not so quick to notice you, more focussed on asking his friend why he's here. but when he finally notices you, his sentence falters. his eyes travel to all parts of you, your hair framing your face perfectly, and the way your outfit showed off the features of your body had him almost drooling. he looks away quickly though, finishing his sentence.
steve smiles and nudges you with his shoulder, "y/n and i like to go here sometimes after work, gets the nerves to settle ya' know?"
bucky nods, turning his head to make eye contact with you, "y/n, huh? never heard of her, are you two..."
steve nervously laughs, "no,no. just friends. she is looking, though."
you roll your eyes, embarrassed. meanwhile, bucky is looking you over again, his own mind confused on why he's feeling this way.
steve exchanges a glance between the two of you, sipping his drink, "buttt i do know that buck is very 'hard to get' in that area so sorry y/n, he's probably not interested."
you gasp and shoot him a look, "i never said anything about being into him," you glance at bucky, "no offense."
"none taken sweetheart." your heart basically stops at the nickname, but you power through and take a sip of your drink while steve laughs.
"okay okay, sorry. how about we order some more drinks? gotta catch you up to speed james." steve smiles and orders more drinks for the three of you.
the drinks continue, so many rounds that you stopped counting after steve both you and bucky to the dance floor. the three of you danced pitifully, laughing whenever a new song played and the style of dance was altered.
after about twenty minutes of this, you left steve and bucky and sat down at a nearby booth, laying your head agasint the table, this hangover was gonna suck.
"tired already?" buckys deep voice sent shivers down your spine.
you lifted your head and groaned, "don't pay me any mind, i'm sure steve needs a dance partner." i look over to steve who's still going at it for whatever reason.
bucky scoffs a little, "you know hes not even drunk right? the sss makes it so he can't."
"of course i know, i think he has the placebo effect though, whatever makes him happy i guess." you smile, glad at least someone can have fun without the repercussions the next morning.
there's a moment of silence between the two of you. bucky looks down at you, wearing a subtle smirk that you can't decipher if it's a drunken one or something more than that.
bucky knows he feels something for you, but he's trying so hard to fight it.
james buchanan barnes does not believe in love at first sight.
but there you were, you're unmistakably stunning, every thing about you make bucky want more. all he knew was your name, and he still wanted you.
he clears his throat, using it as a way to clear his thoughts, "so you and steve, you guys aren't a thing? that's a surprise actually, the way he looks at you and all." there's a slight hint of jealously in his voice, even though he has no reason to be jealous.
you raise your eyebrow, baffled that someone would even think that, there's no way there's anything between the two of you, "we definitely are not a thing, steve's like my brother."
bucky nods and moves to sit down across from you, the intoxication beginning to mess with his head.
you giggle, "you and steve aren't a thing either?" you smile playfully.
"haha. you're funny." bucky says sarcastically, "no, we just go way back." he returns your smile, making your heart speed up.
you both can hear steve pleading the two of you to come back and dance. bucky makes eye contact with you then bursts out laughing, "i guess we should go and dance with him." he says between chuckles while he gets up and walks back to the dance floor. you sigh and follow him, a headache starting to form in your temples.
for whatever reason, captian america himself has amazing dance skills when it comes down to it. you and bucky cheer him on, joining in with him every so often. but it comes to the points where you're drunkenly swaying to the music, right against buckys front side.
you don't essentially realize how close you two are until you turn around and you're inches from his face.
you both pause for a beat, your breaths fanning out onto each others faces. bucky face is hot, whatever you did with your hips has his pants growing tighter by the second. but he holds himself together and hovers his hands above your waist.
"may i?"
you pause, but then nod, figuring it was harmless. he places his hands on your waist, surprisingly gentle, and sways to the music with you.
steve laughs, "jeez that didn't take long, thank god." he winks and walks over to a group of girls that has just walked in.
before you know it, you and bucky are stumbling out of the bar, leaving steve behind. your lips are crashing together as the both of you try to make it to buckys car.
you're desperate at this point, the alchol making you want to commit all types of unholy. you hold on the the collar of his shirt, kissing him deeply.
"now hold on doll, this is a public parking lot, let's go somewhere more private." you reach the car and bucky unlocks it, opening the car door for you.
you slide in and he closes the door, walking over the the other side and getting in.
bucky starts the car and starts to drive off, not worried about his drunken state. his right hand leaves the steering wheel and finds your thigh.
inching higher. and higher.
at this point you've lost your breath, biting your lip as your senses light up, little fireworks going off in your body.
finally, bucky pulls off onto a back road and stops the car, his hands moving further up onto your waist, pulling you over to his side and pulling you into another deep kiss.
his hands find your thighs again and your heart pounds, grinding down on his lap.
bucky chuckles, "needy are we? let me help you out then, sweetheart."
Tumblr media
a/n: there is gonna be a part twooo so stay tuned for that
im not very good at writing the slow shit so i apologize if this is really boring but i think i'll improve in the next part because it is my area of expertise...

Dugan walked down the hall toward James’ office. The classic Rococo furniture contrasted with what the newer generation of the family preferred. But they would never change it. Because what the Barnes family loved more than their outdated furniture was tradition.
They were immutable. The habit of the institution was ingrained into them as young as five years old. For James “Bucky” Barnes- probably younger because he was set to inherit the family business.
Dugan walked in as a lifeless body was being dragged out. The face was unrecognizable as the only feature standing out was a backward initial ‘J.B.’ imprinted on the man’s cheek.
Steve nodded as he saw Dugan approach. He held out his hands towards him in greeting. “Dugan, how are you, my man? Or should I still call you DumDum?” Steve chuckled.
James was watching through the window’s reflection as smoke from his cigar blew out from his thin lips. His other hand, adorned with bloodied rings, nursed a half-filled glass of bourbon.
“You’re never gonna let me live that down, Rogers? I was four!” Bucky said talking to Steve’s reflection.
“And you’ve been calling him that ever since.” Dugan smiled wearily as he took Steve’s hand and greeted him. He didn’t want to end up like the faceless man that was dragged out moments before.
“Why are you here?” Bucky asked him suspiciously. “You were supposed to be watching the bachelorette party.” He turned around, looking straight at Dugan.
“Bucky, you’re not gonna like this,” Dugan answered, looking sideways at Steve.
“Where’s my fiancé, Dugan?” James asked level toned. Dugan took a moment to decide which information he should start with first. “WHERE IS SHE?!” Bucky yelled and Dugan flinched.
“She went into Odinson territory. Got into one of his clubs. I could only watch from the border. I left Junior behind to watch and inform me when she and her friends come out.”
“You left the protection of floricica mea to a greenie? WHY WAS SHE EVEN FUCKING THERE?!”
“Buck, I’m sorry. I tried…” Dugan started. Bucky grabbed his collar and pushed him up against the wall.
“And if something happens to her, Dugan? If she gets kidnapped? What happens? Will you be sorry then too?” Bucky let go of his shirt. “Go back and tell me as soon as she comes out. Grab the entire party and send them home. Do you understand me?”
“Yes, boss,”
“Bring Rose and Lia here!”
“Yes, boss,” Dugan quickly accepted his command and left. Bucky was seething. He knew of your history with the older Odinson brother. Why the fuck would you go there?
“Buck, I’m sure there’s an explanation,” Steve tried to placate him. “Maybe she didn’t know.”
Bucky contemplated, then sighed. “No. That’s bullshit. She knows the boundaries, at least.” He downed the rest of his whiskey and slammed it on his desk reaching for the decanter. Steve watched him from the corners of his eyes as he sipped his drink slowly. He knew Bucky could be temperamental…at best. You were an angel for having fallen in love with him.
“Buck, she’s madly in love with you. YOU! You crazy, fucked-up psycho. She’s a saint for doing so. And for all you know, it could’ve been Lia who suggested it. She wouldn’t know where the borders are.”
“Lia can be rebellious,” Bucky noted.
“She’s naïve. Which in our line of work, can be dangerous.” Steve answered back.
“She didn’t grow up in the life.”
“Does she know? That you’re…about your family business?” Steve waved his fingers around.
“If she doesn’t, I think she suspects. She’s smart. Or Rose told her. They tell each other everything.”
“That whole family has brains. How’d you manage to snag Strange’s daughter anyway?” Steve asked finishing his drink. “Does that mean The Hospital isn’t neutral anymore?”
“Strange won’t let me anywhere near The Hospital unless I’m on my deathbed.”
“Hmm.” Steve nodded, knowing he wouldn’t get any more info other than that from his long-time friend.
Tumblr media
You stepped out into the cold evening air, a slight breeze chilling the night. Bucky was not gonna like this. If you learned anything by now, you knew that Dugan had sent word to him that your bachelorette party wandered into Odinson territory and that he would be furious.
You didn’t know this was one of Thor’s clubs. You just followed your bridesmaid’s lead, talking about a brand-new spot that was trending. The lot of you had gone from one bar to another. Always within James’s borders of protection. You tried to steer the party back, but your cousin, Lia wanted to see it. Lord knows you can’t say no to her and her damn puppy eyes.
You thought it would be ok, one quick drink and lay low so you don’t gather attention. It wasn’t until you saw Lia kissing Loki Odinson, of all people, that you realized you were going to be in trouble.
You walked out onto the breezy summer night and before Lia could step foot on the concrete, Junior had already come up to you and your friends.
“Ma’am,” was all he said.
“He’s not happy, isn’t he?” you asked quietly.
“No, he’s not,” Dugan answered from behind Junior. “He’s furious.”
“I’m sorry Duggy. I didn’t know,” you said out of earshot from your friends. You were the only one who could call him that and make it sound endearing. You tried to channel Lia and gave him your sweetest puppy-eyed face.
“Well maybe you can get away with that, but I can’t. C’mon, he wants you guys to end the night,” Dugan ordered, motioning you guys back to two large SUV’s waiting on the curb.
In all honesty, you were glad that the night was ending. Aside from Lia, everyone there just tolerated you. They were there because your fiancé was “Bucky” Barnes and wanted to make advantageous connections with his future wife. They weren’t there for you.
After dropping the two of you off at Bucky’s house, Dugan set off to drop off the rest of your bachelorette party. Holding your hand, Lia followed you down the hall into James’ grand office. She gave your hand a heartfelt squeeze. Making sure you were all right.
“I’m sorry, Rose. Did I get us in trouble?”
“No. No, it’s all right,” you squeezed her hand back. “Even if Bucky is mad, what’s he gonna do? We didn’t do anything wrong.” You put on a brave face. You knew what kind of temper he had. It was never directed at you, but you’ve heard the cries of the men that have wronged him. He tried to shield you the best he could, but you were around it all your life. Especially since your father was the neutral doctor for all the families.
The scent of fresh cedar and tobacco hit your senses as soon as you entered his office. You froze for a half second. A habit you did involuntarily whenever you saw James. Not because you were frightened, but because his presence, his undeniable charisma always made you pause.
Lia walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek. She held his hand and whispered, not too quietly, “Be nice. Or I’ll have to hurt you!”
“I’m always nice!” Bucky played offended. “C’mon. Have I ever not been nice?” he lovingly touched her nose with the tip of his finger and Lia giggled. You were so happy that they got along. Lia was hesitant about him at first, but she saw how you looked at him with love and devotion in your eyes. She saw how happy you were and how much you were yourself whenever you were around Bucky.
Most importantly, she saw how completely and madly in love Bucky was with you. How he would move heaven and earth for you to be happy. That was what won her over.
“Rogers, why don’t you take Lia here for a walk in the gardens? I need to speak to my future wife,” James calmly ordered. Both Steve and Lia looked at you. Worry and wistful glee warring on their faces. Steve held out his arms and Lia took them. Their footsteps echoed on the hardwood floors as they left the room.
A quietly charged moment went by, and all James had done was stare at you. The deep-set brows on his face downturned in anger. Or worry? Neither was good when it came to Bucky.
You crossed the small space in between you and placed your hands on his chest. He lifted his head and looked down at you. His devastating features only got more handsome as he tried to be indifferent and stoic. His jaw was set, his nose flared and his eyes narrowed at the innocent cherubic features you were trying to portray.
His fingers grabbed your chin gently and forced you to look into his eyes. “Of all the places, Roza, why his?!” You heard his deep Romanian accent come forth. A shiver ran down your body, making your stomach curl in desire. His accent was only obvious when he felt a deep emotion. You recounted all the times that voice came out in the throws of passion as he took you over and over again.
“I didn’t know, Bucky. Honestly. I was just following the girls. They wanted to try out a new place. Some place they hadn’t been before, and I was just catching up with Lia. I didn’t notice that we had gone into Odinson territory. Or that Dugan had stopped following us.” You caressed your hands up and down his chest.
“HIS PLACE, ROSE?! Of all the clubs it was his place!” he held on to your hands and stopped your caress.
“Bucky! It’s over. You know that it is. He never loved me. Not like you!”
“Oh, don’t start comparing me to that bastard!” he let go of your hands and moved away in anger.
“It’s true!” you yelled out. “I was just something to pass the time for him. I…”
“Do you think that makes me feel any better?”
“Let me finish!” You stomped your foot. Bucky picked up his glass of whiskey and threw it against the wall from your opposite direction. You didn’t let it faze you as you slowly walked over to him. His anger dissipated with your every step. “He didn’t mean anything to me either Bucky. He was a tool. To anger my father. But you…you are the love of my life. The one I chose to spend the rest of my life with. I hadn’t even thought about him until tonight when I found out where we were.” You said placing your hands in soothing circles over his chest.
“Did you see him tonight?” he snarled.
“No.” You answered looking into his eyes so he would know you weren’t lying.
“Did he see you?”
“I honestly don’t know. I was too busy dancing with Lia.” You tried to give him your best apologetic face. You peppered small kisses onto his cheek and made your way to his lips. You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him closer to you, wanting him to open up and kiss you back. “What can I do to prove to you that I love you, dragostea meu, my love?”
Bucky stood there stubborn, yet slowly losing his resolve. Your soft lips on any part of his skin always excited him. “No one makes me weak like you do,” he said grabbing your waist. “Or so fucking angry!” James growled at the last word.
He pushed you up against his desk. The familiar cold mahogany sends chills up your skin as he picks you up by your waist and sits you down. He pulls up his chair and sits. He lounges in it with a slight swivel as his eyes travel the length of your body. He spreads his legs, showcasing the hard bulge he’s been trying to conceal.
“James, I really am sorry…”
“Shh. Spread them for me, sweetheart. One leg on each armrest,” he commanded as he scoots closer. You quietly and slowly open your legs and lean back as you placed your strappy heels on the armrest of his chair. The hem of your dress rides further up your waist and you almost whimper from his stare. That hungry look in his eyes, as if he found something he would kill for. Something he would die for.
“You’re so beautiful spread out for me like this Roza. Ready and willing.” He traced his fingers on the outside of your calves. His warm lips pushed against your supple thighs, slowly inching closer and closer to where you wanted him most.
“Tell me, Roza, did he ever worship you like this?” his nose grazed against the hood of your clit, sending shivers throughout your body. His tongue traced the seam of your panties and made you open wider. “Answer me, sweetheart.” He grabbed you and pulled you closer to his face. He looked up at you, but your head was thrown back in ecstasy, savoring him between your legs.
“N-no. Never,” you gasped as his mouth latched on to your sensitive nub. The thin fabric of your panties stopped his tongue from entering further. You pushed yourself closer to him. But he held you still, teasing you, knowing you wanted more.
“Mmm. This little number you have on is beautiful. Did I buy this for you?” you shook your head no. He traced his fingers on the gusset of your panties and pulled to a snap. You yelped in slight shock, more than pain. “Hmm. And these shoes?” Bucky asked as his hands pulled your panties off and traveled the length of your legs down to your ankles.
“I bought them, baby.” You answered. Bucky stood up slowly and leaned over you on the desk. He trapped you in between his muscular frame as he looked down at your lips. He kissed you fervidly. All teeth and tongue, leaving you gasping for air. His lips roamed down to your collar, and he bit the chain hanging on your neck.
“And this? Who bought this?” he said licking the bruise he just made.
“I did.” You answered. “I bought it for myself.”
“So you don’t need anyone, do you floricica mea? You certainly don’t need that low-life prick who couldn’t even bother to get on his knees and worship you like the goddess you are.” His head dipped lower, trailing his tongue in between your breasts. “Which means you don’t need me either, do you?”
“No, I don’t need you.” You whispered. Bucky paused and stared deep into your eyes. He started pulling away, but you grabbed his face between your hands and pulled it back up to yours. “I don’t need you. Or your money.” You brushed your lips against his. “But I want you. I want you Bucky Barnes! In every way and in every chance I get.” You kissed him, sucking on his top lip, as he wrapped his arms around your waist.
You reached for his belt, undoing the fastening and making quick work of his zipper. Your hand brushed up against his hard length, feeling him throb through his boxers. Your mouth salivated at the thought of his arousal.
“Do you see what you do to me, Roza?”
“Oh, Bucky…” you whimpered as you pushed him back down to his office chair. He grunted when he hit the cushion and you swiftly placed yourself in between his legs. He stared up at you with ravenous eyes, licking his lips as he watched you lower yourself onto your knees. “Let me prove to you how much I want you.”
Bucky leaned forward to capture your lips. Your fingers unbuttoned his shirt one by one tracing the hard muscle underneath. You dipped your fingers under the hem of his boxers and pulled them down, his large erection springing free from the tight confines of his pants. He groaned as you fisted him, your fingers barely closing around his large girth.
You licked the tip, tasting him. “Fuck,” he growled as his head rolled back. You continued to give him small licks, kissing and sucking down the length of his cock. Your hand moved to a rhythmic pace as you softly bit the base of his shaft, sending bolts of pleasure up his spine. You licked your way back up to the end and swallowed his tip. You could see his knuckles clenched and white on the armrest of the chair.
“Don’t tease me now. Show me how much you need me. How much you want me.” He said, one hand holding the side of your face. You moaned, opening your mouth wider and sticking your tongue out further. You took him in slowly. Inch by inch until his cock hit the back of your throat. “Look at me while you suck my cock.”
You looked up to see his gorgeous face curled in pleasure. Your eyes watering as he slowly pushed deeper into your throat making you gag. He pulled out slowly, savoring your lips around his girth. “Fuck,” he panted as he saw himself coated in your saliva. “That’s a good girl.” He thrust back into your mouth. “A good fuckin’ girl.”
You continued to bob your head up and down. Your hand worked in tandem with your mouth. All you could hear was the gulp and swallow of your mouth mixed with Bucky’s shameless, feral moans. Even after holding the base of his cock, he felt heavy in your mouth as you dragged him faster and faster through your lips.
“St-stop,” he whimpered into the air. But you kept going. “Stop, Rose.” But you couldn’t. He chuckled at your eagerness. With one hand on your head, he pulled you off his hard cock as it bounced back toward his stomach. “Naughty little Roza” He smiled as he pulled your hair up to look at him. “I didn’t know I was going to marry such a slut.”
His words sent a chill throughout your body. He always danced that fine line between praise and degradation that always made you weak. “Bucky,” you whined.
“I know, sweetheart. I know. You need my cock inside you, don’t you?” You nodded as you turned your head licking his wrist that was holding your hair. “Stand by my desk and bend over for me. Hands behind your back.” He commanded.
You quickly complied, moving to stand by his desk and bend over it. You spread your legs apart putting most of your weight on the desk. The cold mahogany felt like ice against your heated face. You placed your hands behind your back and slowly pulled your dress up, showing him your dripping cunt. You heard the sound of his buckle as he stood. “You’re such a good little slut for me aren’t you?” Bucky slid two of his fingers through your folds, teasing you.
“Only for you, Bucky.”
“Only for me,’ she says.” There was an edge to his voice that made you nervous.
“Only you.” You repeated.
“Oh, floricica mea, you have no idea what I would do for you.” He spanked your ass, causing you to cry out in shock. He grabbed both of your wrists in one of his hands and secured them on your back. With his other hand, he lined up his cock at your entrance.
“You have no idea what I would do to anyone who ever touched you,” he slammed into your heated core making both of you cry out at the same time. Bucky bent over you, his hot breath tickling your ear as he said, “You are mine, Rosaline,” he growled. “MINE. I’m gonna make sure you forget that he ever existed.” He slammed further against you making you scream. A gargled plea between pain and pleasure.
Bucky stood back up and began thrusting his hips inside you. “…Ohfuck…God Bucky!...”
“That’s it, baby girl, say my name.”
“…B-bu…” you panted. With every thrust, every push, you felt the weight of his large cock pressing inside you. “…bucky…youfeelsogood…so good baby…” He took you hard and rough, keeping your chest pressed down onto the desk.
“You like that, sweetheart? You like my hard cock inside that tight pussy of yours?” he asked out of breath. You nodded your head, unable to make any coherent words other than grunts and moans. “Then say my name,” he growled.
“Bucky! yesyesyes…oh!Bucky…” You screamed over and over again. Every thrust had you yelling his name until it was the only thing you could say. Your legs started shaking. He could feel you squeeze him hard, and he knew he wouldn’t last much longer.
“Give it to me baby. Come all over my cock.” And with his words, you screamed out the pleasure that he built up in your body. Bucky grunted as he stilled inside you. “Squeeze me harder, baby.” And somehow you obeyed as incoherent as you were.
When Bucky finished inside you, he pulled out slowly, watching his spent drip down your thighs. “Can you walk baby girl?” he said massaging your shoulders as you stood up slowly. You had a dazed look in your eyes as you shook your head. He picked you up bridal style and carried you down the hall to your bedroom. You giggled and made small love bites on his neck. “Just as well. I’m not finished with you yet.”

Steve woke up with pain.  Shit, he thought to himself.  The light in the room was blinding, not helping the headache he had at all.  He blinked slowly trying to orient himself.  He went to massage his head but found he couldn’t move. This is what finally brought him into full consciousness.  He looked to see Nate sitting next to him, tied to the chair with his arms behind his back. He finally lifted his head and saw Alex in front of him, also tied to a chair but gagged.  He could see that she had been crying.  “Alex?”
“Ah, Captain Rogers, good to see you are finally awake.”  A man in a crisp suit stood in front of him. “I don’t believe we have met.  Christian Grey.”
Steve stared daggers at the man. “You’re the asshole that is trying to rip my family apart. Trying to take my brother’s wife.  My nephew’s mother.”
“She is mine,” Christian snarled.  “She was always mine.” He punched Steve in the face. Steve raised his face back up, a trickle of blood running from the corner of his lip. Alex muffled scream came from across the room.  A laugh could be heard, and he looked to see another man with Zemo standing next to him.
Christian walked over to Nate. “I knew you would betray me, Nathaniel.  You were always weak, especially for my girl.”
“She was never your girl.” Nate looked defiantly towards him.  “You took an innocent girl and ruined her.  I did everything to protect her.  You just wanted to fuck her up.  We had a code, ethics.”
Grey got right in his face. “Don’t act like you had to moral high ground,” he snarled.  “You were right there next to us, doing my dirty work without a second thought.  You lusted after Alex just like every other man. Let me rephrase, you were in love with her.”
Nate didn’t blink.  “Yes, I do.  I loved her so much, but she deserved more than this life.  I had no problem helping her escape if it meant she was happy. I couldn’t save my soul, but I could save hers.”
Alex let the tears openly flow.  She knew Nate had a crush, but she hadn’t known how deep it had gone. She looked at him with sorrow.  Nate knew what she wanted to say but he simply nodded.
“That is so romantic.  A declaration of love,” Grey mocked.
“Well, it’s better than what you think you are calling love.” Nate threw back.  “Tell her.  Tell her how you made her an orphan. How Walker ran them off that cliff. That you actually found her brother a few days after he tried to leave and tortured him when he refused to give his blessing.  How he begged you to spare her life. How you slit his throat and watched him bled out on the same floor you made her bedroom in.”
Alex’s eyes widen at Nate’s words.  She started to scream through the gag and buck in the chair. Her mind on Simon.  She had assumed he was alive but underground.  Underground was right but he hadn’t been alive in years.
Christian roared at Nate. “You think giving her these truths would make it better? I should kill you first, so she knows she is powerless to stop this. Walker.” Christian turned to face Alex as Walker went up to Nate and punched him in the gut, the force tipping the chair over and sending Nate onto his back.  Walker picked him back up and swung at his face, his nose now bleeding but unconscious.
Alex continued to scream until Grey went and ripped the gag from her mouth.  “You’re a monster! You killed my family!”
“I only did what I had to do to keep you, Alexandra.  I wanted you from the moment I saw you.”  He saw the confusion in her eyes. “You don’t remember? You wandered into a game one night, looking so innocent and beautiful.  I knew I had to have you.  But Simon refused.  So, I eliminated the obstacles.”  He laughed with such malice that it made Alex flinch.  “You were so easy to mold into what I needed.  Now, it’s time for some negotiations.”
Tumblr media
Outside, the police were slowly surrounding the home and garage.  Infrared camera detected no one in the house but they still send a team in to make sure.  James and Tony were waiting at the command center with the local police captain Thor Odinson.  “The house is clear, but it looks like someone was injured.  They found blood in one of the bedrooms.”
“Alex,” James whispered and closed his eyes.  He snapped them open.  “Have you found Captain Rogers?”
“No, but we still have the garage that is a ways back.”  Thor looked at his colleagues. “I would ask but I already know you won’t stay put.”
“Sorry, but my entire family is in this.”  James pulled on his vest.
Tony moved to stop him.  “Bucky, are you sure you can handle this?”
“I need to bring them back to Drew.  He can’t lose them.” He checked the clip on his gun.  “I’m taking Grey dead or alive.”
Tumblr media
“What negotiations?” Alex kept breathing deep, trying to level her head.  But all she saw were thoughts of her parents, her brother, ripped away from her.
“I have some paperwork that needs to be signed.”  Grey smirked.  “Formalities, really.”
“Formalities?  For what?”
“For you to be completely mine.  We have things that need to be resolved.”
Alex lifted her chin.  “I won’t sign anything for you, you fucking prick.”
Christian didn’t say a word as stepped towards her.  About six inches away, he leaned to her face.  “Watch. Your. Mouth.”  And without another warning he slapped her, her face rearing as it moved from the force.  A cry left her mouth as the pain radiated.
“Don’t touch her!” Steve yelled, trying to move the restraints.  He felt one of the ropes slip but didn’t let on as he slowly freed one of his hands.
“I won’t touch her again Captain.  Not until we finished at least, and I claim my prize.”  He whipped back to Alex.  “These papers.”  He threw them on the table next to her and turned her in her chair. “You will sign them.  Otherwise,” he grasped her chin to have her face the men tied up, “I will make you watch as we began to play with them.  Walker, as you know, loves to have fun with new friends.”
Alex’s eyes glanced at Walker, an evil smile gracing his face as he played with a knife from his belt, twirling, glinting with menace. “What are they?” she whispered.
“Marriage dissolution papers.  I want you to be mine and first I need to end your joke of a marriage to that cop.”
Steve pleads with her. “Don’t sign them, Alex.  Its ok. Everything is going to be ok.”
Alex could barely see him through the tears building up in her eyes. “I have too Stevie.  I need to save you.”
“No, you don’t Ale. You were the one we needed to save. Everything will be ok.  Please don’t sign them.”
Tumblr media
The SWAT team approached the garage silently, James and Tony among them.  They all positioned themselves near the windows and doors.  James glanced in to see the three people tied up, Alex’s face red but could see someone with their head down and Steve with what looked like a hand free but playing it off.  “We have three hostages in there, one who looks unconscious,” he whispered.  They could now hear the conversation going on.
“This is all so sweet,” he heard Grey say, but now is not the time.  A gun cocked back, ready to fire.  “Now, Alexandra.  What have you decided?”
He could hear Alex sobbing quietly.  “What happens if he doesn’t sign?  You need two signatures.”
“To save your life, I’m pretty sure I can get your officer to sign them.  He gets everything after all.  Your business, your money.  Everything but your son.  I’ll raise him after this.  Bring him up to be a good soldier and eventual heir.  You will still be his mother, but you will be my queen.”
Alex face was one of horror, matching the one she could see on Steve’s and unknowingly James’s as well.  “You can’t have him,” she whispered.
“Oh, I will pet.  And we will have others.  Our own little family.” Christian laughed, echoing in the garage.
Steve saw out of the corner of his eye that Nate was waking up.  Nate looked around and saw Steve waving his loose hand at him.  He gestures to charge, and Nate understood.  He waited until Walker turned his back on the men.  Steve loosened his other hand holding the rope, so no noise was made.  He glanced around for a weapon and saw James in the window.  James winked and Steve understood.  They were no longer alone.
He saw the men waiting for Alex to make her decision.  He subtly glanced at Nate and nodded once.
James got ready after explaining what he saw.  He made it to the main door. And took a breath. Please God, make sure they are ok. He closed his eyes and opened them with focus. The SWAT team took position in front, their tactical gear making the practical choice for all.  Odinson counted down in his ear piece.  “Breach in three, two, one… “
Tumblr media
“Let’s have it, Alex.  I want an answer.  NOW!”
Alex pulled in a breath as she could see that Steve was free and motioning Nate, looked in her direction.  But not at her.  And it hit her.  He was here. James was here. “Fine, I’ll sign.  But I need my hands.  I want to read it.  To understand what you are taking away from me.”
Grey smirked.  “Sure.”  He let go of the tie on her wrist and she flexed.  She picked up the papers and started to read them, her eyes moving but actually observing the scene. Walker and Zemo had their backs to Steve and Nate, a huge mistake on their part.  Grey had his body turned as well.
Steve saw that he had Alex’s attention.  He held up a hand counting down.  Closing his fist, he quietly went up to Walker, Nate up to Zemo and charged.  Steve put Walker in a choke hold while Nate charged into Zemo’s stomach, dropping both.  Grey turned to the commotion and then back as the door burst open.
“Police!”
Grey didn’t hesitate, firing at the officers as he ducked behind the desk.  Alex pushed herself back out of the way, but Grey grabbed her. Walker loosened Steve’s hold, turned and pointed his gun at Steve, but a SWAT officer took him out before he had a chance.
Nate was loose from the chair and began to wail on Zemo.  Zemo pushed him off, but Steve got there with Walker’s gun.  “Move and you die, “ cocking the gun back.
As the police moved in, Grey took hold of Alex and used her as a shield, his gun at her head, arm around her neck.  James ran in and stopped.  “Ah, Sargent Barnes. Nice of you to join us.”
“Stop!” James put his hand up to stop the other officers.  Steve looked up and his face fell.  Nate’s face twisted in anger at the scene.  “Ok, just let her go.”
“Let her go?  No, I don’t think I will.”
“Jamie!” Alex cried.
“Its ok Allie.  Everything is going to be ok, doll.” James took in her disheveled state.  “Are you hurt?”
She shook her head slightly. “No.”
“Ok enough chatter. You are going to talk to these nice officers and let us walk away.  I’m going to put her in the car with me and we are going to drive far away.  I won’t hurt her, and you get to live.”
“That’s not going to happen.” James kept his gun trained on him but had no clean shot.
A movement in his peripherals caused Grey to shift.  “Think about what you are going Captain.  I just need to pull and the world ends,” stopping Steve in his tracks.
“Ok, let’s just remain calm,” James called out.  “You have no clean exit, Grey.  I don’t want to kill you, but I will if you try and take her from me again.”
“Take her?  She was mine to begin with!  She was always mine!  And you, you just charmed her with your Brooklyn ways!” Grey screamed.  “You took the only thing I have ever loved!”
“She ran from you.  What does that tell you?”
“Alex just needed time.” Grey was letting his delusions out. “Didn’t you just need time pet?”  He grasped her neck harder, making her cry out.  “She’ll see that we are perfect together. I just need to get rid of the obstacles.  I just...” his eyes moved to James.  “I just need to get rid of you.”  He moved his gun away from Alex and pointed it at James.
“No, please!” Alex yelled.  “I’ll leave, I’ll stay with you.  Please don’t hurt him.” She cried harder.  “Please don’t kill him.”
“You need to stay with me Alex and the only way is if he is gone.” His attention was now on Alex, watching her beg for her husband.
“Please Christian, I’m begging you to leave him alone.”
In the chaos of her pleas, Nate moved closer to James.  He knew how unstable Grey could be.  He got around Steve just as Grey refocused the gun on James.
“Thanks for keeping her safe Barnes.  But it’s time to go.”
Alex screamed as the gun fired at James.  “Jamie!”
James fell over, the wind knocked out of him after he hit the floor. He coughed and looked up to see Alex fall to her knees leaving Grey wide open.  He fired and hit Grey right in the chest, the blood splattering onto Alex as Grey fell over on top of her.
That’s when James realized a body was pinning him down.
“Nate!” Alex screamed
James realized that this was Alex’s friend who jumped in the way to save his life. He pushed him over to see blood seeping from his stomach.  James immediately put pressure on the wound.  “Steve! Get Alex!”
Steve pushed Grey off of Alex.  Steve checked her over as she thrashed to get to James and Nate.  “Stevie please, I’m fine!” She finally pulled free. “Alex, wait.”
She fell next to Nate.  His eyes looked around panicking until he saw her face.  “Its ok Nate, it’s going to be ok,” she whispered.
“We need EMTs in here now!” James yelled.  “Come on Nate, keep your eyes open.”
“Please Nate, keep your eyes on me,” Alex pleaded.  She took his hand into hers.  “You have to live, ok? I need to kick your ass for being so stupid.”
Nate tried to smile, blood coming from his mouth, staining his teeth.  “Love. You,” he labored to say.
“Love you too Nate but don’t do this ok.  My son needs to meet you.”  She watched as his eyes began to flutter.  “No, no, no, Nate come on, stay with us.”
The EMTs rushed over, and James moved out of the way to let them work.  He went to Alex to move her out of the way. “Come on Allie.”
“No, I can’t leave him! Nate! Nate!” she screamed as James picked her up and pulled her away.  “Jamie please, he needs me.”
“I know doll, I know.  I’m sorry.”  He held her close as she screamed for her friend.
Nate felt cold, but when he looked into Alex’s eyes, knowing she was now safe, he felt at peace.  He let his eyes close as the medics worked on him. He could rest now that she was safe.

MidnightsWithDearKatyTSPB's Recommendation List: March
Welcome to March’s recommendation. Down below is the link to February’s part 2 featuring Peaky Blinders, Bucky Barnes, and more. March is a very busy month for me, I’m traveling all over to see specialists, so there may be more stories than usual, or there could be fewer. If you are interested in having your writing challenges featured here, or your stories, or even just your blog, please feel free to tag me in your works, message me, or use the hashtag MidnightWithDearKatyTSPB. I hope you are enjoying the new theme on the blog for March, as St. Patrick’s day holds a special day in my heart. My folks got married on that day in an intimate ceremony and again in July in a bigger ceremony many years ago, before many of your parents got together.

Carina came awake slowly, curled in warmth and surrounded by the comforting and unique smell that was Bucky. She smiled when she remembered how she had gotten here. Bucky had carried her to bed, depositing her gently before turning off the lights and pulling her into his arms. She had fallen asleep quickly, worn out from the day and despite what had happened, feeling safe tucked into his side. At some point she had kicked off the sweatpants and was clad only in the shirt Bucky had given her.
She quickly became aware of the bruises and soreness from the previous night, shuddering as she remembered the look in Brock’s eyes when she couldn’t fight back. She shook it off, sitting up with a grimace and unable to stop a slight pout when she found the bed empty.
Ignoring the pains and her reflection in the mirror she quickly used the restroom and then headed towards the living room to find Bucky.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“He was let go from his position here and arrested on assault charges. Carina will just need to give a statement and see Dr. Cho to document the injuries.” Steve sighed at the look on Bucky’s face. He knew his friend wouldn’t like his Omega having to relive Brock’s attack on her. “She won’t be anywhere near him Buck, you can be with her the whole time, I can come as well. I bet we could get the whole team to come if it would make you feel better.”
“Maybe they should come, I clearly can’t keep her safe.” Bucky muttered, staring into his cup of coffee. Even with Carina safely in his bed he hadn’t slept well. Brock’s hands on her, her face when her heat started. They all replayed over and over, a mocking slideshow of ways he had failed her.
Steve stood tall and Bucky knew he was about to get a lecture, but before Steve could reply, the door to Bucky’s bedroom opened and Carina appeared. She blushed and pulled the shirt she was wearing down her legs further when she realized Bucky wasn’t alone. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.” she squeaked out, her attempt to close the door was stopped when Bucky shot away from the counter and hurried to her side.
“You aren’t interrupting, how are you feeling? Does anything hurt?”  Steve smirked to himself at the sight of Bucky fussing over the little omega who blushed harder but was clearly glowing under his attention.
“I’m alright, just sore.” Carina replied, hardly realizing she had pressed herself immediately into Bucky when he approached. “Good morning Steve” she added softly, turning in Bucky’s arms to send a small smile his way.
Steve replied with a smile of his own before looking intently at Bucky and raising an eyebrow. Bucky sighed before nodding and waving his arm in a gesture for Steve to tell Carina the news he had told him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carina’s leg bounced under the table, only stopping when Bucky gently squeezed it and sent her a reassuring smile as they waited for the investigator in the interview room. Dr. Cho had efficiently and gently cataloged the injuries that had bloomed into colorful bruises overnight along with doing a general checkup to make sure nothing had been significantly damaged. She had reassured Bucky more than Carina, much to Steve’s amusement.
He, along with Natasha & Wanda had accompanied them to the police station after the check up, silencing any objections about the number of guests allowed with a raised eyebrow. Bucky had growled when the receptionist offered them places to wait while Carina gave her account. She had let him accompany her without any protest after that. The way Carina stayed glued to Bucky’s side didn’t help their objections either.
Bucky took a deep breath when the officers arrived and started asking questions. He wasn’t sure he could contain the anger that threatened to emerge as she replayed the night. Only the quiver in her voice kept him from storming to where Brock was being held and giving him another beating to make up for the pain to his omega.
“Thank you all for coming with me, it wasn’t necessary but I appreciate it.” Carina smiled at the group as Bucky helped her out of the car when they returned to the compound.
Wanda pulled her in for a gentle hug, “Of course, you’re family. We protect our family.”
“You have a couple days off, get healed up and get back to helping Pepper keep these guys in line.” Natalia followed Wanda for a hug.
Bucky growled and glared when Steve looked like he was going in for a hug, only stopping when he put his hands up and stepped away. “Let us know if you need anything. I’ll see you at training Bucky.”
Carina waved as they left before turning to Bucky. “Do you mind walking me home before you go to training?”
“Do you need to grab something? I could have Wanda or Nat get it for you.” Bucky watched her.
“Wanda get it for me? But I'm going there.” Carina cocked her head in confusion. “Am I not allowed after the attack?”
“Oh…” Bucky scratched the back of his head with a guilty look on his face. “I guess I assumed you would be staying with me. Unless you would rather stay at your place, it’s just my area is more secure and…” he was cut off when Carina collapsed into his chest with a sob. “Hey, what’s wrong? Does something hurt? I can call for the doctor.” He looked in the direction their friends had gone.
She shook her head, wrapping her arms around his neck when he pulled her into his arms. “No, I’m…I'm fine, just tired but I really didn’t want to be alone and everything feels better when you’re here but I didn’t want to be in your way or keep you from your training.”
Bucky pulled back, placing his hand on her chin so he could look her in the eyes, “Carina, you are my number one priority. I will always be here for you first, whatever you need.”
“Bucky, you’re a superhero. Your job is important, people need...” Carina’s eyebrows furrowed as he cut her off.
“My job is to take care of you. I know I have been doing a shit job lately but I will be better.” He placed a finger over her lips when she tried to protest. “The first time I saw you, I couldn’t look away and then when your scent hit me…you are my home Carina. You may need more time but I don’t, I'm yours. I will prove it to you every single day. I don’t care what anyone else on this planet needs, only you.”
Carina’s lip wobbled and the back of her eyes prickled as tears formed. “You’re my home too Bucky, more than my family ever was.” She yawned and Bucky grinned, reaching down and pulling her into his arms.
“Let’s get you to bed, we can figure the rest of this out later. All I need to know right now is my place or yours.” He pressed a kiss to the top of her head when she mumbled his place and snuggled into his arms.

April 1943.
The 107th.
The words kept on resonating in Ellie’s head. Bucky was shipping out. He was leaving for London the next morning and she hated the idea. Since they had lost their parents in March and July 1933, Bucky was the only family Ellie had left. It had been ten years and, even if she still daily missed her parents dearly, she had managed to keep on living because of Bucky. Sure, she missed her mom’s tenderness, her hugs and her smile and she missed the way her dad always managed to make her laugh and the way he would play dolls with her without a care in the world, but she still had Bucky. Buck was her brother, her protector, her anchor and knowing that soon, way too soon to her taste, he would be fighting in the war raging in Europe terrified her to her very soul. Bucky was a good soldier, she knew full well, but it was war. He was young, he had just turned twenty-six and just the thought of ever losing him made her shiver.
“Are you listening to me Ellie?” Bucky’s soft voice raised, pulling his little sister out of her thoughts.
“Yes, yes. Sorry.” Ellie answered, offering a soft smile to her brother even if she didn’t have the heart for it.
“Talk to me Liz…” Bucky’s hand dropped to hers, gently giving it a squeeze.
“I just…” Ellie sighed, her eyes filling with tears. “I’m scared Buck… I can’t lose you too. What would I do if you…”
“Hey, hey. Look at me.” Bucky cut her off and she looked up, her eyes stopping on those warm blue eyes of his that he had inherited from their mother and that she loved so much. “You’re not going to lose me, okay? I will come back.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Maybe I don’t, you’re right. But I’ll do everything I can to, I can promise you that. But you know I have to do my part.”
“You sound like Steve when you say it like this.” Ellie whispered.
“Elizabeth Winnie Barnes, you are the strongest woman I know. You can get through anything, and you will be just fine, I’m certain of that.” Bucky said gently as he grabbed her face in both his hands and wiped off the tears on her cheeks.
“I still hate it when you call me by my full name. Makes feel like I’m in trouble.” Ellie snorted.
“I know.” Bucky chuckled, pulling his little sister into a hug and she wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her face against his torso.
Bucky was five years older than Ellie; he had always been the one to take care of her, he knew how strong she was, he had seen it but sometimes he wished he could do more to protect her from the world around them. When they had lost their parents, she had been his rock also she never completely realized it, but he had always needed her as much as she needed him. They were each other strength. He knew he could go fight in the war simply because he knew she would be home waiting for him when he will be coming back. He will fight and come back for his little sister.
It was Ellie’s 18th birthday, but she wasn’t feeling it. It had been almost seven years since her and Bucky had lost their parents, she always missed them in some way, but somehow today it was harder. She wished they could be here, celebrating her passage to adulthood with her and Bucky. She quietly sighed and rolled over in her bed, her eyes dropping on the picture on her nightstand. It was her favorite picture, George holding four years old Ellie in one arm, his other one wrapped up around Winnifred’s shoulders who had her arms around nine years old Bucky standing in front of her. All their smiles were genuine and the happiness on their faces was almost contagious. She sniffled a little, rubbed her eyes and rolled out of bed. She made her way to the bathroom and took a quick shower, cleaning herself up before throwing on a large pair of kakis pants with a simple black tee-shirt and same color cardigan. Ellie had always preferred pants to dresses or skirt, she felt more comfortable, more of herself and also it wasn’t the norm, she didn’t really care what people thought. After putting on some light make up, she made her way to the small kitchen in the apartment she had been sharing with Bucky for the last few years.
“Hey, you’re up early.” Ellie said softly noticing her brother was already up and moving around the stove.
“Happy birthday!” Bucky greeted her, a huge smile on his face and she couldn’t help but grin in return.
“Thanks Bucko.” Ellie snuggled into her brother’s torso for a quick hug.
“You haven’t called me that in a long time. Feels like I’m back to us being kids” Bucky dropped a kiss on top of her head.
“I know, but it still suits you.” Ellie grinned, kissing his cheek in return.
“Steve should be there soon; we’re having a birthday breakfast and after I thought you might like to go to Coney Island.” Bucky explained, stepping away from his sister to go back to the stove where he had started cooking pancakes.
“You know, we really don’t have to do anything special, Buck. I’m fine with just staying home.”
“No, huh-huh.” Bucky shook his head. There was no way he wasn’t doing anything for her today. “We’re not staying home. You’re 18 Liz! It’s a big deal. We have to celebrate.”
“We can celebrate here. Just you, me and Steve.” Ellie offered.
“Hey, what’s going on?” Bucky frowned, surprised she didn’t want to do anything.
“It’s just…” Ellie sighed. “I’m not sure I’m feeling like it, that’s all.”
Bucky suddenly noticed the look on her face, she was sad. “Talk to me, kiddo.”
“I miss them Buck… I miss them so much. I really wished they were here.” Ellie admitted, her eyes feeling up with tears.
“I know, sweetie. Me too.” Bucky grabbed her face, dropped a kiss to her forehead and gently pulled her into a hug.
They stayed liked this for a moment, Bucky rubbing her back, his chin resting on the top of her head, until the front door of the apartment flew open, and Steve appeared. His left cheek was covered in a bruise that had started to turn from blue to green, and his lip had a deep cut. The two siblings exchanged a quick look perfectly aware he had been in a fight, again.
“Again?” Bucky sighed looking at his best friend who simply shrugged.
Ellie pulled away from her brother and walked up to Steve, taking his face into both of her hands, a concerned and worried look on her face. Steve gently dropped his free hand on one of hers, the other holding up a small package, and smiled at her.
“I’m fine Angel. I promise.” Steve reassured her.
“You have to stop doing that Stevie…” Ellie whispered.
“You know I can’t do that. I don’t like bullies.”
Ellie sighed. She knew Steve would never give up on a fight, that who he was, but it didn’t make it easier to see him covered his bruises and cuts. He was a brave man who was always standing up to defend other people even if it meant bullies beating the crap out of him. Truth be told, it was one of the things that made him a good man and one of the reasons why Liz liked him so much.
“Happy birthday.” Steve changed the subject, handing her the small box in his hand.
“Thanks.”
It was that day Ellie truly realized that even if she kept on missing her parents dearly, she would always have Bucky and this little punk by her side. After breakfast, they spent the day just the three of them at Coney Island walking around, eating sweets and going on a few rides. In the evening, Ellie opened the presents the two men had bought for her, Bucky had purchased a golden locket inside of which he had placed a tiny picture of the three of them, and Steve had gotten her a typewriter, the kind she had her eyes on for a while. After that, they all settled into easy small talks.
“Come on, we have to go pick up Steve from the movies.” Bucky’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts.
Ellie simply nodded, wiping the tears from her cheeks. Without a word, she followed Bucky to his car and sat on the passenger seat as her brother started to drive away. She knew Brooklyn like the back of her hand, growing up here, she had always loved to wander in those streets, and she looked as they passed by so many familiar places, memories flooding through her mind. Ellie, barely four years old, and her father going for a stroll as she sat on his shoulders, Bucky walking by their side. Bucky playing catch with her when she was ten. Bucky and her, side by side as he held her hand after their mother’s funeral. Steve, Bucky and her sitting near Steve’s apartment after he had lost his mother.
“How’s nursing school going?” Bucky asked, stopping at a red light.
“Good, I think. It’s not always easy but it’s good. One more year and I’ll be graduating.” Ellie turned to look at him.
“I’m sure you’re going to make a great nurse someday, you know. Mom and dad would be proud.” Bucky grinned proudly. “Hell, I’m damn proud of you.”
“Thanks Buck. They’ll be proud of you too, you know. Nazis should be scared.” Ellie joked even if her head wasn’t much into it.
Bucky quickly squeezed her hand in his before the light turned back to green and he drove away. She looked back at the window, New York building passing by in front of her but soon enough the car came to a full stop as Bucky parked in front of the movie theater. Bucky came around to open the door for her, having a look around for his best friend but Ellie was the first one to spot him. He was in the small alley behind the movies, being beat up by a tall blonde man who was at least 15 centimeters taller than him. Steve had always been as stubborn as hell when it came to standing up to bullies and it wasn’t the first, and probably not the last time, he was getting his ass kicked because of it.
“Buck.” Ellie simply said, dropping her hand on Bucky’s arm and pointing at the spot where Steve was getting punched again, sending him to the floor.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” She heard her brother mutter before he stepped closer to his best friend, and she followed.
Steve was there, laid on the floor near a garbage can. Ellie hated to see him like this, she never liked it when he got hurt, and sometimes it was infuriating that he was never one to give up.
“Hey!” Bucky called out to the man bullying their friend, catching him by the arm and pushing him away from Steve and Ellie. “Pick on someone your own size.”
The man threw a punch toward Bucky who easily avoid it before the soldier punched him straight into the jaw. While her brother was kicking the bullies’ ass, Ellie went around him and without a word grabbed Steve’s arm to help him up. At the sight of his face Ellie’s heart skipped a beat. His bottom lip was cut by the side of his mouth, his nose was bleeding, and he was probably already starting to have bruises on other parts of his body from falling down.
“You okay?” Ellie whispered softly, her thumb brushing against the cut on his lips.
“I’m fine.” Steve simply replied, still bent over, his hands resting on his knees to stabilize himself.
Ellie sighed and was about to say something else, but Bucky was faster than her.
“Sometimes I think you like getting punched.” Bucky said, looking at Steve and bending over to pick up a piece of paper, as the bully ran away from them.
“I had him on the ropes.”
“How many times is this?” Bucky asked, opening up the enlistment paper his best friend had dropped in the fight. “Ah, you’re from Paramus now? You know it’s illegal to lie on the enlistment form. And seriously, Jersey?”
Steve brushed himself off, wiping the blood from his nose before his eyes landed on Bucky. He was wearing his kaki army uniform and it didn’t take long for Steve to understand why. His best friend was shipped out to war while he was staying here, in New York. He felt his throat tightened.
“You get your orders?” The blond man asked also he already knew the answer.
“The one O seventh.” Ellie answered for her brother as she exchanged a glance with Steve.
A simple look and Steve already knew what Elizabeth was thinking. He had known her long enough to be able to see the fear and concern in her eyes. She was scared, for Bucky, and a part of him was too. However, the dominant feeling in Steve’s mind was not fear, it was injustice. It was so unfair that James could go help out in the war, but he couldn’t because of his health issues.
“Sergeant James Barnes, shipping out for England first thing tomorrow.” Bucky announced, a proud smile spreading on his lips.
Steve looked at him in his uniform once again and he shook his head. “I should be going.” Rogers declared, rubbing his hands together to get rid of the last dirt on them, a sad look on his face.
“Come on, man.” Bucky said cheerfully, placing his arm around his best friend and pulling him with him. “My last night! I got to get you cleaned up.” He added, pulling his arm off of Steve’s shoulders.
“Where are we going?” Steve questioned, walking by Bucky and Ellie’s side.
“The future.” The sergeant answered.
He handed the journal he was holding in his hand to Steve, throwing the enlistment paper to the side. Steve opened it and glanced at the front page which was stating: World exposition of Tomorrow. Bucky had been talking about going to the Stark exposition for weeks now and when he had asked Ellie to join them, she had agreed.
Ellie always loved to spend time with his brother and Steve. They were all so close and she cared deeply about both of them. In some ways, this was why a part of her was glad that Steve wasn’t going to fight in the war, at least he was staying home with her. She knew he hated the idea of staying behind, of not doing his part in the war effort, but selfishly she was glad he couldn’t enlist. Ever since she had met him for the first time when she was just a kid, Ellie had always had a soft spot for Steve. He had always been so nice to her, in the contrary of some of Bucky’s friend. He always made sure she was okay, always had nice words and the truth was, she had started to care for him more than she was ready to admit it. However, she never said a word about it to anyone, she didn’t feel like it was the right thing to do. After all, Steve was her brother’s best friend, he was the sweetest man on Earth, and she clearly didn’t think she deserved someone as amazing as he was. She was probably just like a little sister to him, at least that what she believed.
“You alright Angel?” Steve asked softly grabbing Ellie’s arm as Bucky sat in the driver’s sit of his car.
“Yes, I’m okay.” Ellie nodded offering him a gentle smile.
“Are you sure? I know it must be hard for you to see him go.”
There it was, Steve sweetness to its best, putting his own feeling to the side to make sure Ellie was okay. That was what he always did, taking care of anyone else’s, never putting himself first especially when it came to the Barnes’.
“I promise you, I’m fine Stevie.” Ellie reassured him, squeezing the hand he had resting on her arm, and he simply nodded.
Satisfied, for now, Steve, as the gentleman he was, opened the front door to let Ellie sat in the passenger seat. She offered him a smile to thank him and sat by her brother side as he turned the ignition on, Steve slipping into the back seat. The ride to the expo was pretty quiet, Ellie looking by the car window as they approached the huge parking lot. She had never loved crowds, it made her anxious, but having Steve and Bucky by her side always eased her mind. Plus, the exposition was a big deal and she had an interest in science. She stepped out of the car, quickly followed by her brother and his best friend, and took a look around. There was a huge globe resting in the middle of the hall and she was filled with excitement.
“Come on, let’s go see the show.” Bucky announced, slipping and arm around his sister’s shoulder as they started walking toward the entrance.
They passed by a few buildings and, by the spinning globe in the middle of the fair, Ellie stopped to take a look at a train passing on top of them. Ellie was amazed, her mouth slightly open in astonishment and Bucky couldn’t hold back a chuckle at the sight of her eyes sparkling with wonder. She had the exact same look than the one she had on her eighth birthday when their dad had bought her her very first bicycle and she had ridden it down the street they lived on at the time. Bucky pressed a kiss to her temple and turned a little more toward his best friend who clearly wasn’t as excited as Ellie, his hands pushed into his pants pockets, looking sad and disappointed. The Barnes’ siblings really hoped tonight would lift his spirit a little.

Live From New York Ch1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Mob!Bucky Barnes x OFC
Summary: He thought he was doing the right thing by leaving her. He thought he was keeping her safe.
Anslei Black was- no scratch that, she is the love of his life and her just let her go.
It has been five years and James "Bucky" Barnes is trying to leave her in the past. That is until his men come and give him some news. Anslei Black is back in New York, and she is not alone. They show him the surveillance pictures and what is staring back at him has shattered his cold heart.
Anslei isn't alone. She is with a little boy. A little boy with his steel blue eyes, a mischief smile and a Gun N Rose's T-shirt. He has a son, and he will burn New York down before he lets anything happen to them.
Warnings: mentions of guns, mentions of kidnapping and torture, swearing, protective Bucky (that’s a warning trust me 😭), mentions of threats of violence. That’s all I can think of.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"Mommy I'm scared."
"Me too baby."
*************************************************************************************
His hair was black. Just like hers. His eyes were a steel blue just like the man he never knew. He couldn't believe it. He'd been staring at Steve and Tony for the past fifteen minutes and neither of them dared to move. Tony just dropped the biggest bomb, and they were all waiting for Bucky to explode and strew shrapnel.
He had a kid.
He had a kid. A little boy.
Bucky looked Tony dead in the eyes and the man flinched. "Tell me all that again, slowly." Tony looked at Steve as if to say, 'Save me'.
"Buck. Listen -" He was cut off by Bucky slamming his hand on the desk. "No! You fucking listen to yourself Steve! You've been lying to me about Anslei for years! Years. God! What if she had gotten hurt or worse?! I wouldn't have known because you two fucks lied!!"
Steve's lip twitched and he let out a scoff. "Listen to yourself Bucky!! You're the one that left her. No. Abandoned her!" Bucky flinched at that. He opened his mouth to remind Steve of his place, but Steve was on a roll. "She gave up everything for you. She lost everyone for you! Cause she loved your sorry ass, and you couldn't get over your guilt of the one fucking time she got hurt! Yes, she got hurt but she didn't die. No, you killed her the day you left her on that doorstep. Injured and alone." Steve's chest heaved with the anger he's held on to for years. Bucky blinked and looked down. Steve was right and he couldn't even be mad.
"You're right. I fucked up okay. I fuckedup and I'll never forgive myself. But this is about the past. I can't doanything about that. She has my kid and now we need to intervene. No one willever be able to touch her again. Or my kid." He straightened his back. He puton his mask of The Winter Soldier on, the most feared man in New York. "Tony, get all the information you can on Anslei and the kid. I want bank info, work, hell, I want to know when her last dentist appointment was. Everything. When you get her address, get Harley and Peter to sit on her house. Anywhere she or the kid goes, they go too."
Tony nodded at his order and left. Bucky then turned hishead to his best friend, brother, and right-hand man. "I outta knock your lights out for talkin' to me like that." Steve rolled his eyes. "You could try." Punk. Bucky took a deep breath and sat down. "I have a kid." Steve nodded and sat across from him. Steve reached over the desk and pulled the surveillance pictures towards himself. The ones that Natasha had taken two weeks ago. "Anslei still looks the same." He looked up at Bucky and Bucky nodded with a small smile.
"Still looks to good foryou. Doesn't even look like she had a baby." Steve ducked just in time to miss getting hit in the eye with a pen. "Watch it punk." Steve laughed and looked at the little boy in the picture. He was wearing jeans and a Guns N Roses t-shirt. He gave a small smile at that. The kid had Anslei's hair but Bucky's everything. He looked exactly like him. Like a carbon copy of Bucky.
In the photo, he was looking up at Anslei while she tried to clean a-scuff off his chin. The kid was smiling with mischief. He was defiantly Bucky's kid. “Poor kid got stuck with your ugly mug." Bucky smiled tightly and gestured for Steve to hand over the picture. He had a kid. With Anslei. Steve was right. He looked exactly like him. Even the dimples that only a few people have seen when he smiled. A genuine smile. "I fucked up Stevie. I fucked up leaving her. I thought maybe she'd be safer that way. Now. Now, I just wanther home. I want to meet my son. For the second fucking time in my life, I want something."
Steve eyes were glossy seeing his brother being so vulnerable. Steve cleared his throat and willed his tears away. "When was the first time?" He smiled already knowing the answer. "When I watched her clock you in the face."

He was on a steady mission.
Rescue as many people as possible, and definitely rescue Bucky.
Two things. Two not-so-simple things.
Still, it was fine. Steve had somewhat of a game plan in his head. He ran through the HYDRA base, stealthy and quickly, taking down soldiers left to right. He freed the prisoners down in the literal dumps and cages and was on his way into the hallway when he heard two collective voices, one familiar and the other unknown. The first one was repetitive and very familiar; a monotonous recital for memory.
"Barnes, James Buchanan. Sergeant.
32557038…Barnes, James Buchanan. Sergeant."
Steve couldn't run any faster. He followed the voice of his best friend into a room and sure enough, right at the center was none other than Bucky Barnes, lying on a metal bed looking like he'd been through hell and back.
Bucky was in bad shape but not enough not to recognize his own best friend. "Steve?"
Steve was already pulling him up and off the bed. Alarms were raging around them and Steve was sure that at any moment, the whole factory would go off in some bomb if the inmates did as they were told. "I thought you were dead…" Steve said and pulled Bucky with him out the room. The latter had to lean on Steve for full support.
"I thought you were smaller…" Bucky mumbled distractedly. His nose scrunched, along with one side of his face. He couldn't set his mind clear enough just yet. Way too many things had been pumped into him just that day. But the fact that Steve had pulled him into the ruddy hallway helped clear some of Bucky's senses. It was then that he realized how now. Steve was actually helping him right now. "What happened to you?"
"I joined the Army." Any other moment, Steve would've hoped that he made a good joke, but not right now.
Right now, there were so many things happening. They were everywhere—
The second voice that Steve had heard just minutes before finding Bucky was still going strong. It was only then that Steve finally realized it was a woman screaming her head off.
There were cages everywhere and barely any light to guide them, but even then Steve was not going to give up. Leaving someone behind was never the plan and most certainly not if there was a lone woman in the facility. He had not seen a single female inmate nor soldier on his way into the place.
"Hey, Buck, do you know who's that yelling?" Steve tried his luck for any help finding the woman in the place.
Bucky shook his head languidly, feeling just a tad dizzy at the moment. "Some…girl, I — they — they used her — the experiments—"
Steve didn't understand half the things that came out of Bucky's mouth, but he still nodded in acknowledgement. It didn't take rocket science to deduce the woman was also part of the cold experiments being done in the facility.
They followed the source of the noise and it turned out there was only one cage with one remaining inmate inside, only this inmate was very different. Where all the other male inmates were kept like cattle all clumped in a cage, this woman had her entire upper body encased in a straight jacket like she belonged in a psych ward. She was relentlessly banging the straight jacket against the metal of her cage, screaming in a kind of language that Steve didn't recognize.
She saw them coming her way and immediately backtracked, retreating into the corner of the cage. She was dead silent now, watching Steve like a hawk as he pulled the cage door open with his hands.
Something was up for sure.
She instantly recognized the other man leaning against the bars of the cage. He was one of the few who managed to survive the horrid experiments. If he was free, then…
She made a run for it, or rather tried, because only three steps forward she nearly fell. Steve made to catch her but she managed to balance herself on her own, though it still proved to her that she was not strong enough to leave on her own.
Dammit. She met Steve's gaze, swallowing hard, as she waited to see what he would do.
Steve was on a clock. He could not waste a second, so he went forward. "I need to take that thing off you, alright?" He nodded at the straight jacket around her body. "I'm going to get you out of here," he promised. "But we gotta hurry."
The woman's eyes once again flickered over to Bucky. He was weak, but free. Her eyes shifted back on Steve and then, a moment later, she nodded. Steve still approached her cautiously but as soon as he was within arm's reach, he ripped the straight jacket off her and then yanked her arm with him towards the exit.
The woman was stunned with his strength and in it that he managed to bring not only her but Bucky as well like it was nothing. They were doing more or less fine until their escape way got blocked by the series of explosions that rocked the entire building. Their only escape was a lone catwalk that seemed on the verge of breaking loose as well.
It was also there that they saw — or rather Steve met — the head of HYDRA himself, Johan Schmidt. He missed the way that both Bucky and Seren seemed to cower at the sight of Schmidt.
Schmidt taunted all three of them, but no one more than Steve given that they shared similar versions of the serum. There was something his assistant was holding onto — a gray silver box — that seemed like the utmost importance with the way he gripped it to his chest. When they made their escape, the woman tried going after them, but the moment she stepped foot on the catwalk, Steve yanked her back.
She frowned at him, seemingly about to say something, when he told her absolutely not.
"They're not worth it — right now," he said quickly when her expression changed to incredulity. Of course he wanted to take them down, but the priority at the moment was to make it out alive!
"The thing's gonna go down," Bucky remarked as he eyed the catwalk. He could hear the groans and creaks from it. "Let me go first," he told Steve, eyes briefly flickering to the woman between them. "Make sure it's safe."
Steve agreed somewhat, preferring to do it himself but the idea of leaving either Bucky or the woman behind didn't sit well with him either. Neither option was ideally suitable. They had to do with what they had.
Bucky climbed on the catwalk first, taking slow steps. He was halfway when he heard a creak much too loudly for his taste. He froze for a minute, arms on either side of him, waiting until it calmed down. From the other end, Steve watched anxiously. Finally, Bucky continued and so Steve had no choice but to send the woman next.
"I'll be right behind you," he told her, meaning to help her climb on. She recoiled her arms away from him, startled. Steve wasn't surprised. Her entire appearance showed the face of someone who had been prodded way too much. With the fire's light, he saw the fresh and old cuts lining her face and arms. Not even the dirt could hide what she'd endured.
She would not trust strangers.
Steve did what he could and just motioned her to step on. She did so then, albeit slowly, and still with suspicious (green?) eyes.
She walked slightly easier than Bucky, however it was still clear that she lacked a significant amount of strength. Her legs wobbled and at some point they buckled halfway through. She was only a few feet away when the gantry started groaning again, this time harder and longer than before.
Bucky heard her soft gasp, and saw her eyes widen with fear. He was confused when she tried to jump up, rather than towards the end of the gantry, like she wanted to literally fly out of there. "Jump here!" He called to her, motioning the spot he stood in.
Her brows pinched for a slight second, and then she tried jumping up again. With one final sigh, she made a run for it and jumped towards the end of gantry. Bucky managed to grab her arms and helped her land the rest of the way. She fell on her side, breathing heavily. Her whole body hurt, leaving her steady on the ground for another moment.
Bucky had jumped to his feet the moment he heard the gantry again. It had collapsed down, disappearing into the pool of fire below, and leaving Steve stranded on the other side.
Steve was already looking for another way out, though he quickly realized there wasn't one. "Just get out!" He called to Bucky.
"No!" Bucky said incredulously. "Not without you!"
Steve looked around one more time before deciding his only way out. It was stupid, and probably wouldn't work, but at least if he tried and failed he wouldn't die without having done anything.
The woman sat upright then, both she and Bucky watching as Steve backtracked many steps. He made a run for it.
~0~
It was chaos coming out of the facility. Between bombs and bullets, there was no clear way of telling who had made it out and who hadn't. It wasn't until they all caught up in the first clearing — at a decent distance from the base — that the numbers began to make sense.
Steve had a good memory. He recalled the men he helped escape and was glad to see that they had managed to liberate even more men afterwards. They were all in dire need of medical attention, not to mention in a severe state of hunger, but they were all alive. They were just about to set out back to the camp when Steve noticed one ex-inmate was missing from the group.
"The woman — where's the woman?" He began to look around, calling out for someone to tell him where she'd gone.
"Think she wandered off…" One of the men called.
"What's her name!?"
"No one knows," Bucky said.
"How'd she even end up there in the first place?"
"No one knows," another man repeated like Bucky. "She was already there when we got there."
Steve looked to Bucky for confirmation. The latter nodded. He told Steve that the woman had been in her own solitary cage throughout their stay and was brought into experimentation very often.
Steve accepted that as a truth given the substantial cuts he'd seen on the woman earlier. He ventured to the outside of the clearing, hoping to catch her nearby. The last thing he wanted was for any surviving HYDRA agent to find her first.
Luckily, he found her sitting in front of a small lake. She was dowsing her face with water when she heard his footsteps behind her. Immediately, she looked back at him and that was the first time Steve got a real look at her.
Now that her face was free of dirt, he verified her big green eyes, plump cheeks, and pink lips. Her long golden brown hair was still knotted and dirty, something she seemed to remember as she quickly looked back at the lake and began throwing water at it. She ran her fingers through it as best as she could in the absence of a hairbrush.
Steve didn't know how to approach her, but he also knew that they couldn't risk lingering there. They had to get out of there fast. "Hey," he called, swallowing nervously, "We, uh, we really need to leave…" But the woman kept thrusting water to her hair, not sparing him a look. Steve stopped, remembering the way she had been screaming when he found her. It hadn't been in a language he recognized. "Do you speak English?" The question tumbled out of his mouth. It would make sense if she didn't. HYDRA didn't care about nationality when it came to their experiments. Any breathing creature was viable in their eyes.
"You speak in another language…" He assumed with her silence. He took a step towards her. "What is it? I…I don't know what to say—"
The woman finally looked back again, and very clearly spoke. "I speak English." Steve stayed still for a couple seconds. In those seconds, she stood up from the ground, revealing herself to be an average sized woman. "I do speak English, but you'll understand that for a very long time now I haven't been around real humans."
Steve nodded, slowly getting back from his nerves. "I'm…I'm Steve Rogers."
The woman regarded him for a moment, although that silent period gave Steve an ample sight of just how exhausted she seemed to be. He didn't miss the subtle wobble of her feet. She was weak and needed medical attention, just like the rest of the men.
"My name is Seren," she said, clearing her throat (an act that seemed to hurt her judging by the hand that flung to her throat right after). She let out a breath, fingers rubbing her neck.
"You're hurt," Steve said, "We should get you back to the camp. We can take care of you there."
Seren let out another breath, this one shaky. "I…I need a lot…" But it seemed to be getting harder for her to speak, like she was growing breathless. "Those animals…they…pulled a lot of my…"
Steve was already rushing forward when her legs buckled. "I got you! I got — Seren? Seren!" She'd fallen limp in his arms, totally out cold.
There was no question about it now, they needed to get back to camp as soon as possible.
~0~
It was quite the scene coming back to camp. Flooding it with old and newfound soldiers wasn't something anyone at the camp had expected. Their day had been designed to create letters for the dead, but now they readied to tend to their wounded.
Steve had made sure that Seren had been left in good care with the nurses, and hoped that when she woke up, she would be better. He then met Colonel Phillips to turn himself in. When that resulted in a sharp 'no', he moved onto priorities.
He had a lot of intel from the HYDRA facility, along with what Bucky had to say. There were plenty of more bases they needed to hit and now they had to figure out a way to go after HYDRA. It was then that they began to hear some commotion outside. It took them a few minutes to realize it was coming from the infirmary.
Steve hurried out of the tent and saw a couple nurses coming out of the infirmary tents, either angry or frightened.
"What is the meaning of this?" The Colonel barked at the group. Beside him, Peggy Carter was eyeing the infirmary, intently listening to the commotion. Her brows raised when she heard the only female voice she didn't recognize.
Steve had heard it as well. "It's Seren!" He rushed towards the ward, leading Phillips, Peggy and a few other soldiers in the process.
Seren was wide awake, fighting off a series of nurses and even soldiers who were recuperating and trying to hold her down. "STAY BACK!" She frantically yelled at them and pushed her way forward. She easily pushed the men away, sending them toppling over their beds. Nurses were thrown across the tent, hitting other medics and others, unfortunately, hit important medical tools.
"Seren!" Steve exclaimed and rushed forwards.
"I SAID GET AWAY!" Seren shoved Steve like he was just another soldier and then bolted from the infirmary. Phillips and Peggy quickly got out Seren's way just as she ran past them and out of the camp.
Steve was disoriented on the ground for a moment. Nobody had managed to pull him down like that, at least not since he'd taken the serum. Hearing the cries outside helped him snap out of his moment and hurry outside.
"Go after her!" Peggy ordered him as soon as he was out, although with great concern for the sight. Peeking inside the infirmary, she was startled with all the nurses and soldiers on the ground. The small woman and done all that?
Steve listened to Peggy's orders and ran after Seren. To his greater surprise, Seren made quite the run into the woods. The only reason he could catch up was because of the serum — another strange blow from Seren in general. Everything about her was strange so far.
"Seren! Seren!" He stopped in a clearing, out of breath, and looked around. "Seren—"
She had come out of nowhere and rammed him down to the ground. Steve was wide-eyed, absolutely stunned, with the woman on top of him.
Seren didn't waste another moment. "I am not going back there!" She pulled herself up, glaring daggers at Steve. "You'll have to kill me before I go back!"
"What—?" Perhaps it was the instinct in him, but the moment Steve saw Seren's legs shift he seized her right ankle and tripped her. He'd apologize later for the face-first landing. He quickly got up from the ground. "Seren—!"
Seren yelled and turned herself on her back. "I'M NOT GOING!" She balled a hand into a fist, although not a second after she did she growled at herself. Something wasn't working.
"I'm not your enemy, Seren! I'm your friend!" Steve wanted to help her up but every time he leaned down she tried kicking him.
Seren ultimately jumped to her feet and, warding Steve off with her hands in front of her, she backtracked. Steve's gaze fell on her feet and watched as they stumbled every second.
"Seren, you need medical attention—"
"I said NO!" She screamed through gritted teeth. "I am not letting any more people cut me open! I'll ki— ah!" She had backtracked into a tree.
Steve had stopped trying to reach for her when she spoke her last words. His eyebrows knitted together, mind racing as he replayed her words over and over…until he understood. "You're afraid of doctors," he realized.
Seren said nothing but her glare spoke volumes. She used a hand on the tree to support herself.
"Seren, it's okay," Steve raised his hands in front of himself. "I get that fear. You have no idea how much I get it. You don't have to be afraid here. If anything, with what you did back there, the nurses and doctors will be the ones who need attention. Please, come back to the camp with me."
"No," Seren said, hard, and seemingly backtracked around the tree to hide herself. "I'm not — no one is t-touching me again."
Steve heard the way her voice cracked and sighed. "HYDRA experimented on you, didn't they?" It was the only explanation for her exceptional strength. Seren lowered her head. Steve took it as a sign of shame. "Hey, they're the bad guys here, not you, nor anyone else they ever put their hands on. Whatever they did to you, they're gonna be sorry for it, I swear."
Seren's eyes lifted for a moment. "They didn't experiment on me."
"What do you mean?" Steve frowned. "They — that's what they did to so many people, my friend included. You remember him?"
Seren nodded. "He's the one they experimented most on. I would know, I was their source of power." Her dry smile led Steve to the conclusion he never thought about.
"Wait, you — they experimented on people using you?" Steve didn't recall Bucky mentioning that part at all. Then again, poor Bucky barely remembered what happened in the experiment rooms. "H-how — why? You're…but you've got the strength — you put me down. Nobody's been able to do that. Are you enhanced?"
Seren seemed to consider her answer and in it made Steve go through the craziest of theories. He was close to begging for the answer.
"No, I'm not enhanced…" Seren let out a shaky breath, "I'm naturally strong. It's, uh, one of my abilities."
"But you just said you're not—"
"I'm not from here."
"You're not," Steve agreed with that on the spot. "When I first saw you, you were screaming in a different language. I don't think I've ever heard it. Definitely didn't sound like anything I've learned about. Where exactly are you from?"
Seren pursed her lips and then, very slowly, she raised a finger above her head, pointing up at the sky. Steve looked at her a moment then the sky…and then her…and then the sky.
"But that's…" His mind was beginning to race again. His deep confusion caused a laugh, a laugh that he had no idea how to handle. He swallowed hard and met Seren's waiting (and patient) eyes. "You're not actually saying that you're…"
"From space? Yes, I am," Seren had spoken in a very different language, one that Steve had never heard of. And to further prove her story, she held a hand out and put all her might into conjuring something…
Steve was absolutely stunned when colorful sparks flew from Seren's fingertips. They were the smallest sparks and lasted all of two seconds, but it happened. His mouth fell open.
Seren was breathing heavier again, whether it was from nerves or her depleting health was unclear. She gripped the bark behind her to keep herself on her feet. "I had the misfortune of crashing and injuring myself right in front of a stupid HYDRA base. They captured me with no effort. That was last year."
Steve snapped out of his trance and shook his head. "Last year?" Seren nodded. "So all this time you've been a prisoner of HYDRA?"
"Prisoner, prime experiment guinea pig, take your pick. Once Schmidt figured out I wasn't human, he kicked it up a notch. Zola — his little scientist — did everything in his power to learn what I was."
"The cuts…" Steve's eyes fell over Seren's body. Her arms were exposed and so were the deep cuts and stitches.
"They're insane. They want to make alien hybrid soldiers to win your war." Seren's eyes shined with tears. "Using me for every ounce of power I have. So no, I will not go back to a camp full of more soldiers, more doctors, and more needles. I'd rather die right here."
"Well then I guess we're going to have to disagree with each other," Steve said, and did something quite strange. He lowered himself to the ground and sat down, eyes never leaving Seren.
She was frowning at him, confused with his tactic. "What the hell are you doing?"
"I'm going to sit here and wait."
"Wait for what?"
"For you to pass out. And when you do, I'm going to bring you back so you can get proper medical attention."
Seren's frown turned into a deep scowl. "I will not pass out."
"And yet, you seem like you need to sit down for a moment." Steve's gaze flickered to Seren's hand on the bark. It was shaking and little by little, her entire body came to lean against the tree.
Seren exhaled with a shaky breath. "I don't like you, Steve."
"I get that a lot," Steve said, smiling widely at her. "It stopped hurting a long time ago."
Seren seemed on the verge of breaking down. She was exhausted, her body hurt, and she just wanted to—
"Where are you from?" Steve asked all of a sudden.
"I already told you—"
"You told me you were from outer space. I'm asking where from."
Seren had slowly slid down the bark until she was sitting on the ground, clutching her stomach. She hated that it was getting harder to stay awake.
"C'mon, throw me a bone," Steve said, and laughed at her reaction.
"Why would you want me to throw you a bone?"
"It's a figure of speech. It means, give me something please. I've never met anyone from a different planet."
"And you don't seem very frightened either," Seren observed. "You're either really dumb or…just plain weird."
"I'm a little of both, actually." Steve felt a spark of pride when he saw the brief smile that marked Seren's face. When she did that, she seemed even less threatening. "C'mon, talk to me."
Seren shook her head slowly. "Celessia. That's the name of my planet. I was born there. It's…quite far from here."
"And it's just you here?"
"Mhm, I was on a mission. It hasn't gone well. My mother…she probably thinks I'm dead by now. Time runs a little different the further in space you are."
"I'm sorry, but maybe we can help you get back. The camp—"
Seren shook her head. "Once your little camp knows what I am…they're going to do to me what HYDRA did. I will not go back to that."
"We are not HYDRA," said Steve sternly. "We don't hurt the innocent, and you Seren, are another victim. We would help — I would help you. But you gotta trust me."
"These days, I can't trust anyone."
"Trust the men you were locked up with," Steve said, "My friend Bucky? You said you knew him better."
"Sort of. It's not like we chit-chatted during the experiments…"
"But you still trusted his judgement when you came with us. Have I failed you yet?"
Seren swayed her head until it made her dizzy.
"Seren, you're hurt. More than that, you need to rest."
"I can heal fast. It's just taking longer because of how long I've been locked up."
"Even then, you should still let somebody take a look at you. How about we compromise?"
"What'd you have in mind?"
"We get one nurse to look at you, outside of the infirmary ward." Steve had a feeling that even if she wasn't traumatized from HYDRA experiments, the medical world wasn't something Seren was a fan of. The heavy fear and alarm she carried every time he mentioned a nurse or a doctor was proof enough.
Seren pulled her legs close to her chest. "How do I know they won't study me like a lab rat once they figure out what I am?"
"Because I won't let them. And you can trust me, I swear it."
Seren continued to breathe hard, and soon it became like a chore rather than an instinct. The fact is she knew she couldn't remain out there on her own. HYDRA used her but they tended to patch her up every now and then to keep her alive.
"I'll have a nurse, and then another woman with you, if that makes you more comfortable." Steve was pulling himself up from the ground. "And I'll be right outside if anything happens. Sound like a deal?"
Seren watched him approach her, instinctively trying to lean further away but the tree was still right behind her. Steve stopped in front of her and held a hand out.
Almost begrudgingly, Seren accepted his hand and allowed him to pull her up. As soon as she was up on her feet, she fell forwards. Steve caught her and helped her stay standing.
"You're very weak, you need to rest," he told her, turning with her to walk. There was no way she'd let him carry her.
"They…they injected me…many times…" Seren said breathlessly.
"With what?" Steve asked her, eyeing her worriedly. He hadn't asked Bucky because he barely remembered. Seren's memory seemed intact.
"Many things," Seren replied. "Ever heard of the Tesseract?" She looked up at him and saw his blank face. "Figures."
"What is that?"
Seren sighed. "We have a lot of things to go over."
But that would be when she woke up again.
~0~
Steve and Peggy Carter stood over Seren's bed, watching the latter finally rest (even though it'd been induced). As it turned out, Seren was heavily afraid of doctors and nurses. Even with them in the tent, it was a struggle getting Seren to cooperate. Finally, her own exhaustion caught up with her and slowed her anxiety until she eventually fell asleep. It had been several hours since then and many things had begun to happen.
Before falling unconscious, Seren agreed to Steve's request to divulge her background and that was exactly what he did. Peggy couldn't believe her ears.
She stood with her hands on her hips, eyes blinking several times, gaze glued on Seren. "You mean to tell me…that woman…" She barely lifted a finger to point at Seren. "She's a…" She couldn't bring herself to say it. Instead, she looked at Steve waiting for him to take it back.
Of course, that didn't happen.
"After everything, this really shouldn't be the tip of the iceberg for you," he said.
"I think…" Peggy's voice was more than incredulous. She shook her head. "They captured an alien! HYDRA actually captured…an extraterrestrial. Do you know what this implies? HYDRA is much stronger than we previously thought."
"I agree," Steve nodded. "Which is why we should thank the heavens that Seren seems to be on our side. At the very least, she's got a grudge against HYDRA. We need her with us."
Peggy didn't seem as convinced and it showed. "Steve, I…" She shook her head. "She took down a whole ward of medics and beaten soldiers!"
"She was afraid — she is afraid of medics, Peggy. Everyone has fears, even aliens."
"If she has that kind of strength, what makes you think she won't turn on us?"
"I trust that she won't," Steve said, plain and simple, despite it leaving Peggy with a gaping mouth. "I talked to her, Peggy, and I didn't get the feeling that she would willingly harm someone. She was traumatized, just like the rest."
"Steve, you talked to her for all of 5 minutes out there. You still don't know what kind of person she is."
"You guys took the chance on me, so why can't we do the same again?"
Peggy didn't seem to like the question because she had no answer to it. She came out with something different instead, but it was technically still an answer. "How would you even explain this to the higher-ups?"
"With all due respect, I don't think it's so much as explaining as it is being logical," Steve said, and just as Peggy turned to him incredulously, he explained it in the simplest terms. "She—" he nodded over at Seren — "can take the whole camp down, no questions asked. She's been weakened by HYDRA but at her healthiest, she gives me a run for my money. Plus, she's got knowledge that we don't. We'd be idiots to let her go."
Peggy's mouth opened several times but she closed it each time, unsure what to say. Finally, with one look at Seren, then at Steve, she responded. "Well, I certainly don't like looking like an idiot." Steve started to smile. "But you," Peggy pointed at him, "are in charge of informing the rest."
Steve nodded, agreeing to the terms. Something told him that he would have the best way of explaining things to everyone else.
~0~
When Seren woke up, she was no longer surrounded by the nurses and doctors — well, technically one nurse but it had still felt like there were a dozen of them. Instead, she woke up to find Peggy Carter sitting beside her bed.
Seren vaguely remembered the woman and began to look around. The tent was empty save for them two. "Where's—?"
"Steve is with the Colonel," Peggy said like she knew exactly what was running through Seren's head. "He asked me to sit in for him but he's been here every minute, I promise."
Seren warily eyed Peggy and the latter didn't miss the way she clutched her blanket.
"It's alright," Peggy said, "You can trust me too."
Seren continued to stare at the woman nervously. Peggy knew that words would mean nothing to a woman who had been tortured, poked and prodded for over a year. Actions would speak louder.
"Our medics said that you were making a fine recovery," Peggy said, offering her brightest smile. "They were astonished with your healing rate. It's on par with Steve."
"I'm supposed to heal quicker than I am…" Seren said, clearing her throat. Hearing it, Peggy rose from her seat and walked over to a table full of different medical tools. She missed Seren stiffen behind her. "But I…I've been weakened for so long that I…" She watched as Peggy rummaged through the table for something. "I…my body needs more time to heal…" She cleared her throat again, and for a moment wondered if she was good enough to make a run for it.
Peggy then turned around with a bottle of water. Relief washed over Seren's face as the woman neared her bed again, holding out the water bottle.
"We assumed the same," Peggy said, none the wiser about Seren's entire panic. "But no worries. We're confident you'll be good as new in no time. Thirsty?"
"Um…" Seren had no choice but to nod. She took the bottle from Peggy and took a small drink (though Peggy didn't miss the subtle sniff Seren took of it before drinking). "When's Steve coming back?" Seren asked again, deciding to forego the bottle altogether.
"Soon," Peggy assured her and sat down again. "He's just talking out details with the Colonel."
"About me," Seren muttered. " I can't imagine how that conversation is going. The only reason I'm here is because Steve swore that I would be safe here."
"And you are," Peggy agreed. "No one has stepped in here since you were brought in. Steve is making sure that we're all on the same page. He thinks you can become a good ally for us."
"An ally?" Seren raised an eyebrow. "So you only want me here to fight for you."
"Is that what you think?" Peggy flashed Seren a strange smile, like she wanted to challenge the latter's presumptions. Whatever it was, it worked.
Seren shrugged meekly. "I've met a lot more terrible humans than good ones so far."
"Mm," Peggy's hum was that of consideration. She held her chin and nodded, her eyes never lifting off Seren's. "And so you think the same terrible humans are right in front of you?"
"I don't know you," Seren said, making it simple and plain. "And now after helping me heal, you're telling me you want me to fight for you."
"Not fight for us, fight with us," Peggy corrected, dropping her hands on her lap. "Our world is at war with some really terrible people. People that want to oppress us. What they did to you and all the other soldiers is what they will no doubt do to everyone else."
Seren lowered her head. Her hair fell over her shoulders and in front of her face.
Peggy stared at her for a long minute, studying every movement Seren did, no matter how small or subtle. She began to see what Steve meant. Seren didn't seem like a bad guy, not when she looked so genuinely afraid right now. She looked like someone caught in the middle of a war…just like the rest of them had.
Peggy looked around the room and then suddenly got up. When Seren heard her steps, she looked up and immediately watched what Peggy was going to do. Her heart rate went up for a couple seconds until confusion flooded her as Peggy returned with a hair brush.
"May I?" She motioned with the brush.
Seren's brows furrowed. "What? Wh-why?"
"I should think it's obvious why," Peggy came around the bed. "There aren't many women around here and after your stunt with the nurses, it might be hard finding you some proper clothes but I'm sure we can make something up for you. Sister solidarity. Ever heard of it?"
"I don't have sisters," Seren said, straightening up in bed. "I'm an only child…" She tentatively reached for the brush but Peggy went ahead and started brushing the back of her head.
"My apologies if I pull," she said, "It's a bit, uh, knotted…"
Seren scoffed. "You're being kind. HYDRA isn't known for its hair care. I look like a rat."
Peggy couldn't help the laugh that slipped from her. She quickly apologized and cleared her throat, moving on. "We're heading to the city today. You being awake makes it easier to transfer."
"The city?" Seren blinked. "I-I don't want to—"
Peggy was quick with the brush and strategically turned Seren's head away from her, forcing the woman to be still. "Steve collected some important intel on HYDRA, and with the other captured soldiers' testimonies, we're building strategy plans. You're welcomed to listen in."
"I don't know, I…I have some things to do…"
Peggy raised an eyebrow at that. "What kind of things? Steve said that you crashed here, implying you're new to the, uh, planet." It was so strange talking like that. Peggy wasn't sure if she'd get used to it.
Seren licked her lips (which were very chapped). "I…I did," she agreed. "And being imprisoned for a year sort of backtracked my plans. My mother — she must think I'm dead. I have to find a way to communicate with her."
"The SSR can do anything to help you, and we do have a man who is, quite literally, a genius," Peggy said. "We have him working on the bits of HYDRA weapons we managed to acquire."
"Weapons?" Seren's eyes widened. She flipped her head in Peggy's direction, utterly alarmed. "N-n-n-no! They can't — tell him they're going to get hurt! They don't understand what HYDRA's done! They've—"
"Carter!" Colonel Phillips himself strode into the tent. Immediately, Seren jumped off her bed and scooted back as much as she could. "We're leaving now! Prepare the extra—"
"Sir!" Peggy made a cutting motion across her neck, hoping that Phillips was smart enough to see how nervous his presence made Seren.
Phillips, however, continued to demand their preparation to leave at once. It didn't help that he had one of the doctors, and a few nurses, come into the tent.
"N-n-n-n-no!" Seren started to cry, shaking her head. "Stay away from me!"
"Seren, it's alright!" Peggy tried to calm her down but as she reached to touch Seren, the latter pushed her hands away. "Seren—!"
Seren gave a hard shove and Peggy landed against the wall. "Stay away from me! I don't want to go anywhere!"
"We'll have to sedate her," Seren heard one of the medics say and practically lost it.
"NO!" She screamed, eyes glowing dangerously orange. The sight had the medics and the Colonel backtracking. "STAY AWAY FROM ME!" She could hear Peggy calling out to her from behind.
You can't take any chances, Seren thought. You should have run the moment you woke up. Why didn't you?
Someone else ripped through the tent and shouted. "What the hell are you doing!?" It was Steve, going against Phillips. "I told you not—"
"Are you insane!?" Phillips was incredulous with the reaction. "She's—"
"I told you to let me handle it!" Steve cut him off. "You're scaring her!"
"We're scaring her? She's scaring the living daylights out of everyone else! She's a walking hazard!" The doctor behind Phillips argued.
"Get out!" Steve yelled and made the gesture towards the entrance. He didn't wait to see if they would leave — he was positive that they would given how scared they allegedly were — and turned towards Seren. He'd heard and recognized her voice right away but he didn't expect to see the energy she used with her hands now shining in her eyes. He could see where the others would be frightened but he knew the truth behind those powerful eyes.
"Seren, it's okay," he called to her in his gentlest voice. "It's — they're not going to touch you." He crossed gazes with Peggy who remained stuck on the wall for fear of pushing Seren even more. She encouraged him with a nod to keep talking. "You're perfectly healthy again. We're just…we're going to head to the city. There's more room for you there, definitely better food, I swear."
Seren had not moved from her spot but her hands were raised in a defensive stance and her eyes had yet to stop glowing. Still, Steve could see the strain creases on her forehead and near her lips.
"Seren, I told you that you could trust me. I'm not going to hurt you." Steve put his hands down on either side of him, straightening himself up. "I want to take you to the city. I know you'll be safer there."
"I don't…I've never been there…" Seren's voice shook, "Soon as I got here…"
"I know," nodded Steve. "HYDRA found you. Well, they're not doing it again. Come with me."
Seren's lips pursed, and little by little the glow in her eyes began to fade. "The medics — I don't — I don't want them to touch me again. I won't…I promise I won't hurt anyone. I'll — I'll keep my hands to myself, I swear." She sounded like a frightened kid, and resembled one too.
Steve felt the overwhelming urge to hug her and only resisted out of fear that he would make her jump. "I know that," he said instead. "I know that you're a good person and you don't hurt people."
As soon as he said that, Seren gasped and all the energy faded around her. She spun around to face Peggy, eyes wide.
"I'm — I'm sorry! I didn't — I got scared — they—"
Peggy nodded at her. "It's alright. I'm okay, see?" She stepped away from the wall and opened her arms. "Perfect, as usual." She was glad to see Seren crack half a smile. "Now then, clothes?"
Seren looked back at Steve, almost like asking if that's what she should do. He smiled at her. She then nodded at Peggy, quietly thanking her.
Peggy walked in a hurry (wanting to get things done before Seren changed her mind) and whispered a quick "I'll be back" to Steve on her way out.
"Seren?" Steve gently called who had yet to turn around. "Are you…are you okay?"
"No…"
At least she had answered right away.
"I-I'm sorry about that, I…I told them not to come in. I was going to come in and tell you what we were going to do."
Seren finally turned and met his gaze. She shook her head at him, saying it was her fault. "I just don't know what to expect anymore," she said quietly. "Your friend — she was so nice and I'm pretty sure I hurt her. Maybe the best thing for me is to just go…before I really hurt someone."
"Seren, I don't mean to scare you but if this camp alone puts you on edge, I can't imagine what the rest of the world will do to you. Let us take you to the city," Steve said. "And then we'll help you do whatever it is you need to do. Do you trust me?"
"I…I think…" Seren sighed. "I'll be honest, I don't know what I think. My head still hurts a little."
Steve chuckled. "That's fair. Bucky says the same thing. So, can we head to the city then?"
Seren nodded. "Will you stay with me?" He'd already helped her go through the medics before, she supposed she could trust that he would help her around this time as well.
"Of course," Steve assured her with a comforting smile.
A short moment later, Peggy returned with some clothes for Seren to wear. Despite actually wanting to change, Seren was still nervous to see Steve go.
"I'll be outside waiting," he promised. He exchanged glances with Peggy on his way out.
"It's alright," Peggy told Seren, holding out the clothes she'd found. "Now I don't know what kind of clothes you're used to, but this is what we tend to wear around here — er, when we're not at war, I meant."
Seren stared at the folded clothes. She was sure it was a dress. "I had a suit," she said, "But HYDRA tore it apart for experiments."
"Oh, well, if it's a new suit you're looking for, our partner — his name's Howard Stark — might be able to help you. He'll be in the city when we get there." Peggy once again made show of the clothes.
Seren took the clothes from Peggy and, with a sigh, went to get changed.

As it turned out, Seren was indeed very nervous coming into the city. She was anxious on the ride to the city, and getting off was only a matter of making it worse. There was way more action on the streets and noise to fill her ears. As soon as she stepped on the sidewalk, she was bombarded with car horns and people yelling and bells and just about everything else one would typically hear.
She covered her ears and ducked her head. Just as she was getting overwhelmed, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Flinching, she dropped her hands to her sides and looked up.
Steve was looking at her, concerned. "Are you alright?"
"Strong hearing," she explained. "Does…don't you have it?"
"I…hadn't thought about it," Steve said, making a face. He looked around, focusing on the street, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. Some things felt a little sharper but not the point of having to cover his ears.
"It's just been a while," Seren said in the end, deciding she was drawing too much attention to herself. The medic staff was definitely giving her some dirty looks. "But I wouldn't mind getting out of here…"
"Yeah, we'll—"
"Rogers!" The Colonel called and was motioning to Steve to come over.
Steve seemed at a loss between staying and following orders. Luckily, Peggy walked over and offered to stay with Seren until things got sorted. With her came Bucky who told Steve he'd been ordered to accompany him.
"Wait, are you not coming where we are?" Panic flashed across Seren's face. She then looked at Peggy before Steve could answer. "Where are we going?"
"Just…headquarters," Peggy said, taking Seren's hand. "You'll be very safe there, honest."
"It won't be long, Seren," Steve said, offering her a smile. "Just some stuff."
"But I — you won't be long?" Seren flinched as a car passed by. She knocked into Peggy and the strength of it made the latter stumble a few steps back. "Sorry!" Seren immediately apologized, not wanting to repeat her mistake from before.
"It's alright, don't worry!" Peggy chuckled and fixed herself. She glanced at Steve and Bucky, motioning them to get going. "Don't just stand there. Follow your orders. We'll be fine."
Steve's gaze lingered on Seren even while Bucky started pulling on his arm. "Won't be long, promise!" Steve said. He watched Peggy take Seren's arm and pull her in the opposite direction. Eventually, Bucky yanked him hard enough to turn him around and they could walk together.
That's when he noticed the wide smirk on Bucky's face.
"What?" Steve raised a brown at him.
"'Won't be long, I promise'," Bucky nudged Steve's side.
"Stop it," Steve rolled his eyes. It was crazy to say he missed the interaction, even if roles seemed to be reversed (for the first time in forever).
"What?" Bucky would most certainly not stop it. He looked over his shoulder, presumably after Seren and Peggy who were walking away. He bobbed his head pensively. "Sure changes with some new clothes, right?"
"Shut up," went Steve who then nudged Bucky — or rather stabbed his elbow into his side.
"I'm just saying…" Bucky's smirk was even wider than before. "Doesn't want to leave your side, right? Already seems made—"
"Be quiet now, thanks." Steve picked up his pace, leaving Bucky behind to laugh at him.

Seren may have been new to Earth but she recognized soldier attire. The SSR headquarters were filled with soldiers and, apparently, special agents. Seren didn't like a single one of them.
Peggy assured her that nobody but them knew about Seren's situation and they wouldn't until she decided otherwise. Still, Seren couldn't shake off her nerves. She had no idea what she was doing and more importantly what the hell was going on around her. Peggy tried her hardest to explain things as simple as possible to Seren. She didn't want to overwhelm Seren. They spent hours going around the headquarters so Seren would be familiar with the place, ultimately landing in a laboratory. There, she met the man that Peggy had been talking about earlier.
Howard Stark was, at first glance, an intelligent man and a bit cocky, though Seren wondered if she'd gotten the wrong impression about that last part. He was the only other person who knew about the truth about her.
"I must say, it's very fascinating!" Howard said, leading the two women down the lab. There weren't many other employees working around, giving Seren a better feeling of freedom. "I won't commend HYDRA for capturing you, of course, but they did get lucky with you, am I right?"
"Unfortunately," Seren said in a low mutter.
"Seren was telling me about a suit that HYDRA took from her," Peggy said, "And I told her that maybe you could help her build a new one."
Howard's eyes sparkled with the idea, almost making Seren laugh. It would have been the first time she laughed in a long, long time. Peggy saw it.
"I would need to get a better understanding of your abilities," Howard said as he stepped closer to Seren. "Agent Carter tells me that you specialize in, uh, star matter?" He was nothing but excited about the prospect, especially when Seren confirmed it. "Amazing!" He spun on his feet and walked a few steps away, babbling to himself about ideas.
"Is he always like that?" Seren found herself asking Peggy while they waited for Howard to remember they were still there.
"Sometimes he's slightly less annoying," Peggy said, earning a small chuckle. She did a double take at Seren, stunned.
"I like him," Seren admitted. He was about the only man she felt at ease with — well, besides Steve. "And you think he can help me make a new suit?"
"That's the hope," Peggy nodded. "He's the smartest around."
"And we're sure he's not with HYDRA?"
Peggy smiled. "We're sure."
Seren let out a breath and announced that they should get to work.

Steve truly worked his hardest to get back to the headquarters as fast as possible. He barely registered Colonel Phillips telling him about the stupid medal some people wanted to give him for saving the soldiers HYDRA kidnapped. He was worried how Seren might do on her own surrounded by SSR agents and soldiers. He knew that Peggy would be there with her but he would feel a lot better if he was there in person to verify that everything was okay.
So he was very disappointed, and perhaps disillusioned, when he and Bucky returned to the SSR headquarters only to find out from Peggy that Seren was currently working with Howard Stark in his lab. When Peggy turned away, Bucky wouldn't stop smirking at Steve.
The day went by very slowly for Steve. He had a ton of work to do that there was no way he could go find Seren and see how she was doing. It was honestly driving him crazy not knowing, something that Bucky had laughed at until Peggy scolded them both for being disruptive.
It wasn't until later in the evening that Steve had some relief. He was busy drawing out the rest of the maps he'd seen in the HYDRA facility when he heard a familiar voice. He dropped his pencil and looked at the door just as Seren walked in with Howard.
"…I'm sure we can find the right one…" Howard was saying, with Seren seeming to agree.
"Your inventory is impressive," she admitted, leading Howard to laugh.
"Well…" There was no denying the smugness on Howard's face.
Steve didn't quite like it.
"I take it everything went well?" Peggy asked the two. She sensed that Seren was a lot more cheerful than she'd been earlier in the day.
"It did," Seren was the one to answer. "Howard agreed to help me with the suit and we're going to work on a method of communication with my mother."
"There's not a challenge I won't say 'yes' to!" Howard said. "This woman is amazing! Did you know she can 2 fly!?"
Seren's cheeks became a bright pink. She laughed nervously. "I didn't properly fly. My energy's not completely back yet."
"It was amazing!" Howard insisted, still over the moon. Seren watched him explain all that she'd done to show her abilities. Her smile grew wider and wider, unsure what to do with all the compliments thrown her way.
Steve frowned and turned back to his drawings. He picked up his pencil and continued the sketch.
Peggy calmed Howard's excitement with the cartridges that they managed to retrieve from HYDRA. Seren wandered over to Steve's table and noticed all the maps around them. Steve of course felt her presence next to him.
"You draw?" She gazed at the sketch he was currently working on.
He nodded silently. As irritated as he was, outright ignoring her just wasn't something he felt he could do.
Phillips entered the room a second later, grumbling. "Rogers, you just embarrassed a senior senator in front of a dozen reporters and ten members of Parliament!" He barked and held up the medal in question.
Seren got the feeling that it wasn't a surprise to Steve as he didn't seem shocked with the shiny medal being brandished in his face.
"You should get a medal just for that." Phillips almost smirked then. He left the medal beside Steve on the table and walked over to Peggy and Howard.
"What was the medal for?" Seren asked Steve, inching forward to catch sight of the medal on the table. It was actually quite nice.
"Nothing," Steve said quickly. He finally looked at her and realized how close she actually was to him. She looked very different from when they first met, almost like any other human girl. Her hair was sleek and wavy, her face cleaned up, and the plaid dress she wore was impractical for SSR matters but more than pretty for her.
"I like your drawings," Seren said, smiling lightly. "Do you only draw maps?"
"Uh, no, not…" Steve cleared his throat, suddenly nervous. Seren's green eyes were intense yet still innocent. He ducked his head and focused on the last bit of the map. It was urgent, after all.
Seren watched him silently. Her eyes would flicker to the medal every now and then, back and forth until it dawned on her what happened. "The humans — the ones in charge — they awarded you for saving us?"
Steve felt an incredible heat rise up his neck and to his cheeks. "Uh, well, that's — maybe—"
"And you blew them off…" Seren continued. She began to smile the more Steve stuttered as he tried to explain something he really didn't have to. It was endearing.
Steve met her eyes again, immediately regretting it again. He didn't notice before but she actually had freckles on her cheekbones.
Seren's smile just grew under his stare. "Will—"
"Have any of you figured out what this is yet?" Colonel Philips' call startled the two and made them look across the room. Philips was pointing at the cartridge in Howard's hands. "I thought leaving you all here was going to speed up the process."
Seren didn't like him very much.
"Well, if you believe Rogers, it's apparently the most powerful explosive known to man," Howard said, making a nod at Steve. "Or so I've heard."
"Well, either you're wrong or Schmidt's damn near rewritten the laws of physics," Philips said, "And I'm rather fond of the laws of physics…"
"That's not going to abide by your human laws of physics," came Seren's voice, leaving the room rather startled for a moment. She had made it very clear from the start that she was not comfortable making her presence known, much less in groups of people. But this time even Steve heard the strange certainty, and authority, in her voice.
"What do you mean?" He abandoned all thoughts of his maps and turned to her. "Do you know what those things are?"
Seren nodded firmly. "I know what they were made with."
Philips, Peggy and Howard moved towards the table and waited for Seren to continue. She'd realized how suddenly everyone's attention was on her and for some reason her gaze shifted to Steve. He encouraged her to keep going.
She took a breath in and started again. "What you're looking for is the Tesseract." It was like she had spoken in her native tongue because nobody understood what she had just said.
"The tess…what?" Howard was making a face as he tried to repeat the word.
"The Tesseract," Seren said again, for their benefit. "It's what's been infused into those cartridges," she nodded at the one Howard held. "It's not from this world."
"What exactly is it?" Peggy asked. "And how did they acquire it?"
Seren deliberated with her answer. To answer would be to give her purpose for being on Earth away.
"Well, speak already!" Philips exclaimed, startling Seren.
"Give her the moment she needs!" Steve all but snapped at the man. He then looked at Seren again, quietly telling her to take her time. "We'll wait."
Seren afforded him an appreciative smile. "Well, it's a bit complicated, and I…it sort of involves me too."
"Is the Tesseract yours?" Peggy asked.
"No," Seren said immediately, shaking her head. "But I was tasked to find it. The Tesseract is a source of power that was once owned by the Asgardians — another alien race. My planet, Celessia, we're sort of, uh, at odds with Asgard right now. But we don't want war. Our superiors, they came up with a strategy for a peace offering. My family is very high up and we were tasked to find the one object that Asgard hasn't been able to get back. The job fell upon me. I traced remnants of the Tesseract to this place, and I quickly discovered why."
"HYDRA is using the Tesseract on their weapons…" Steve realized.
"And on their human experiments," Seren nodded. "I discovered that when they used me as their trial and error. See, the Tesseract can't physically be held by human hands. It's too powerful of a source. But its powers can be extracted. If they continue to use the Tesseract, they will win your war in no time."
"Then we better come up with a way to stop them." Phillips looked directly at Howard. "See what you can do with it," he pointed at the cartridge. "Now."
Howard nodded. "Uh, Seren, wouldn't mind a little of consulting, would you? Seem to be the expert on this, after all."
Seren agreed but only after pointing out to the group what she would do at the end. "The Tesseract is coming back with me. It doesn't belong here."
"I don't know how the higher ups will take that," said Phillips.
Seren tilted her head at him. For the first time, she stood quite differently in the eyes of the group. "That wasn't a request. I'm telling you what's going to happen."
"Excuse me," Phillips blinked at her, affronted.
Seren's expression did not waver. " I know that I am way out of my comfort zone here but do not mistake me for being weak, because I assure you that I am not. I will go through whoever I have to, to get the Tesseract back. Don't forget you can't even touch it. It's mine."
There was a terse air left in the room. Seren wondered if she'd finally made herself out as the enemy. As bad of a price, she had to follow through with her orders.
Finally, it was Howard who moved things along. He asked Seren if she would still come with him back to the lab to do more research on the cartridges. She agreed, and moved to follow him. However, before she die, she touched Steve's arm. Startled, he looked down at her, not expecting her hard expression to quickly change into a much more friendly one.
"I'm sorry, but I have to" she whispered to him, sounding genuinely guilty. Unbeknownst to her, Steve understood her perfectly at that moment. Orders. She was following her own orders.
If anything, all Steve felt when she left the room was irritation and not even at her. She hadn't left the room on her own; she'd gone off with Howard.

A couple days later and there was a solid knock at the front door. Walter got up from the couch, heading over and looking out through the peephole, seeing the man standing on the doorstep. He could see the leather ball cap the guy was wearing as well as a tidy dark beard, but everything else was obscured by the brim of the cap. Turning back the locks, he opened the door, leaning against it.
“May I help you?” He asked and the guy looked him over with pale blue eyes.
“You must be the new guy.” He said with a thick Texan accent and held out his hand, “Jacoby Barnes, call me Jake.” “Walter Marshall.” He said, shaking his hand. “Come on in.”
“Thank you, kindly.” He said and moved past Walter as he stepped aside, walking into the house as Faith came up from the back.
“Hey, Jake.” She said and they met in the middle, Jake pulling her into a one-armed hug.
“Hey, darlin’, how’re you holdin’ up?” He asked and she made a noise, “Yeah, I feel ya.”
“You get everything handled with your job?” She asked as she pulled away.
“Collared and delivered this morning, check’s already gettin’ processed for deposit.” Jake said.
“Faith told me you’re a bounty hunter?” Walter asked and he turned to look at him with a nod.
“Ain’t as glamorous as the TV shows like to put it, but it pays the bills.”
“Walter is a Lieutenant with the local police force.” Faith said and Jacoby gave him an interested look.
“What department?” He asked.
“Homicide, but I’ve worked with SWAT.” He said and Jacoby nodded.
“Not bad, not bad at all.” He said, “Okay, well, I wish this was just a social call, but it ain’t. Doll, I got your assortment right here.” He set down the backpack he had on his shoulder on the kitchen island and pulled out a cooler, unclipping it and sliding it open. “Got a range of types for you, I prefer O Pos personally, but we’ll see what you like.”
“Different blood types have different tastes?” Walter asked and Jacoby nodded without looking at him, not at all surprised at the question.
“And before you ask, Walter, you taste like raspberry dark chocolate.” Faith said and Jacoby snorted.
“I was going to ask when we were in private, but good to know.” Walter said with a small, embarrassed smile. “Question, though. For you, Jake.”
“Shoot.”
“Where do you get the blood?”
“Donation centers across the country.” Jacoby said, “There’ll be blood drives every so often if stock runs low. People come in and donate, thinking it’s going to hospitals and clinics. Shady? Yeah, kinda, but they are savin’ lives in a way, just not the way they thought. They get their fifty bucks and a cookie, and we get a reliable food source. There’ll always be ones like Quintus who will prefer it from the source, so to speak, but as a whole we try to lessen the impact we have on whatever community we’re in.”
“Ones like Quintus who leave bodies behind, what do you guys do? Is there…some kind of police force or governing body?” Walter asked but Jacoby shook his head.
“Nothin’ organized. We’re not a nation within a nation, we’re private citizens just like everyone else. Do we have those who are more influential than others? Yeah, but that’s true for humans, too. If we come across ones like the fuckhead, there’s an unspoken law to put them down as quickly and quietly as possible.” Jacoby said and turned to Faith, “Speakin’ of, doll. You want me to take care of him for you? I keep silver bullets just for this occasion.”
“I appreciate the offer, Jake, I really do, but I need to do this myself. He’s been haunting me for way too long.”
“Yeah, and if anyone has cause to kill the fuckhead, it’s definitely you.” Jacoby said.
“So you know what he did to her.” Walter said and Jacoby nodded, turning back to the cooler.
“I know enough to know it was bad.” He said, “When Faith came rollin’ into the town I was Sheriff of alone, I asked her why she wasn’t with her maker. New vamps should be for the first hundred years or so, to get taught the ropes. I wasn’t because mine was dead, but Faith told me what Quintus had done, to her and to Sean, what the first group who found her had done to her. Luckily, those assholes got what was comin’ to’em.” Walter gave Faith a questioning look and she shrugged.
“That second group I told you about? The one I was with before I came over on the boat? When there’s a nest of ones like Quintus, others are encouraged to hunt them down, take care of them. That’s what happened. They found me there, saw what had been going on, and got me out of there after killing all the others. They helped me, helped me process what had happened to me and everything after, and what I was now.” Faith said, “They showed me how to live with what I am and how to survive.”
“What should have happened to begin with. Not the nightmare it was.” Jacoby said, “What Quintus did was…” He shook his head, “This is supposed to be a gift, the person is supposed to want it, to ask for it, not have it forced on them.”
“Remember when I first came into town, and you pulled me into the station?” Faith asked, an amused smile on her face. “You kept asking me all these questions and I just…”
“Kept giving me that blank stare?” Jacoby finished with a laugh. “And then you would say something and it just didn’t translate?”
“Keep in mind, Walter, we were speaking English, it’s just that our accents were so thick at the time we couldn’t understand a damn word the other person was saying.” Faith said.
“Almost had to out myself to one of my deputies just to get a damn translator in there.” Jacoby said, “We were able to get it sorted by writing it out, though.”
“And right before I left for Port City, I had the saloon, and that cattle rustler kept giving me and my girls problems.” Faith said and Jacoby laughed.
“I was all set and ready to toss him in a cell, let him think about his life choices, but this one damn near breaks his arm and literally kicked his ass out the door.” Jacoby said and she snorted, giving a shrug.
“He touched one of my girls.” She said and looked over at Walter, noticing how he had gone serious as they were reminiscing. "I'll be right back, Jake."
"No problem, doll." Jacoby said and she went over to Walter, taking his hand and pulling him down the hall to the bedroom, closing the door behind him.
"Hey, you." She said, going to him and laying her hands on his chest. "You've gone all green eyed and broody again."
"You two have history, I get that." Walter said.
"We've known each other for over a hundred twenty years now." Faith said, "We have actual history, but you're wondering what kind of history it is."
"He calls you pet names and drops everything to help you." Walter said and she sighed, going over to the door to open it only so much as to stick her head out.
"Hey, Jake? Question for ya."
"Hit me, darlin."
"Have you ever wanted to sleep with me?"
"No, ma'am."
"And we've never done that ever, correct?"
"Not to my extensive knowledge." Jacoby said.
"Thanks, Jake."
"No problem." She shut the door again and gave him a look.
"Better?" She asked and he sighed, pulling her against his chest with an arm around her shoulders.
"I know I'm being foolish." Walter said, "You've been around a long time, I should expect you to have friends and acquaintances who're like you, and yes, some of them will be male."
"But you are the one I'm with, and you are the one I want." Faith said, "I don't want anyone else but you."
"Faith, I know we haven't been together officially for very long, but I…I can see myself falling in love with you. One day."
"Me too." She said and he pressed his lips to her forehead. “You want to stay in here while I try what Jake brought? Knowing him, it's not at all disguised.”
“I’ll see how I feel.” He said and she nodded. Jacoby was organizing what looked like medical blood bags on the kitchen island when they came back out and Walter scowled slightly as he saw them.
“Told you.” Faith said, “No tact.”
“I can’t be carrying around heavy glass bottles like you.” Jacoby said, “I move around too much.”
“I know, I know. They’re still like a macabre Capri Sun.” Faith said and Jacoby snorted.
“Well, start sippin’ and let me know what you think.”
Walter watched quietly as she tried the different blood types, sipping from the bags through the IV tube like, yes, a macabre Capri Sun. There was a couple she was indifferent about, a couple she flat-out didn’t like, but he watched the pleased smile come over her face as she sipped at one.
“I think we found a winner.” Jacoby said.
“Raspberry dark chocolate.” She said and Jacoby looked at the bag.
“O Negative, universal donor. Not a bad choice.” He said.
“As much as I like it, I’d rather I keep associating the taste with Walter, if you don’t mind.”
“Makes sense.” Jacoby said and Walter snorted, shaking his head slightly. In the end, she settled on A Positive, which she said tasted like grilled eel, smokey and delicate.
“Huh, always tasted like bourbon to me.” Jacoby said and she shrugged.
“You know the types taste different for each of us.”
“So blood doesn’t taste like blood to you guys?” Walter asked and Jacoby shook his head.
“Somethin’ about gettin’ Turned changes how our brain translates the taste, makes it taste like food or alcohol. Probably so we actually like having to drink it.” Jacoby said.
“Faith, what does animal blood taste like?” Walter asked, “To you, I mean.”
“Pig is bitter, cow, well unsurprisingly, cow tastes like steak or roast beef, and sheep is slightly sour and a little gamey.”
“Blech.” Jacoby said, pulling a face, “I’ll drink cow’s blood in a pinch because it tastes the same for me, but I’ll stick with my O Pos, thank you.”
“I keep bottles of cow in the fridge if you want to take some with you.”
“I’m fine, darlin’, but thank you.”
“Can I…” Walter paused and they looked at him, “Can I ask something that may seem a little…invasive? Feel free not to answer if it is.”
“Shoot.” Jacoby said.
“What does the blood of other vampires taste like to you?” Walter asked and they both got very quiet. “Again, feel free not to answer.”
“No, it’s fine.” Faith said, “It’s less a taste and more a feeling. It tastes like…home, like comfort. It all depends on the relationship to the vampire in question, of course. Quintus would probably taste downright poisonous to me, but if say, Jake here opened a vein for me, it would be more of a positive taste.”
“There was an accident, not long after Faith came into town, an ornery bull got loose and I caught a horn. Ripped a hole in me. Docs at the time couldn’t do much and they weren’t optimistic about my chances. The only reason why I wasn’t killed almost instantly is because I drank mostly human blood. Faith saved my life, allowed me to take from her and heal. She tasted like…comfort, like she said. Comfort mixed with…whiskey, oddly enough.” Jacoby said and she snorted, pushing at his shoulder.
“For a vampire to take from another vampire is the ultimate show of trust.” Faith said, “Nests will take from each other to strengthen their bonds. I wasn’t…doing so great when I was found by that second group, I was nearly starved to death. One of them helped me, even though she didn’t know me.”
“She?” Walter asked.
“Elizabeth.” Faith said, “I’m still in touch with her, she’s living somewhere in Europe now. The others, they…they figured with everything I had gone through, that I would be more comfortable around another woman, at least in the beginning. They were right, but that was still a rough first decade.”
"Heavy conversations aside, Faith." Jacoby said, "I brought a few of each kind, should hold you over until your own shipment comes in."
"Thanks, Jake." She said and he separated out the bags of A Positive, packing up the ones she didn't choose. He dug out his wallet when he was done, pulling out a card and handing it to her.
"This is the company I get mine from, drop my name and they'll give you a discount, I've been a customer of theirs since they started." He said she looked at the card, giving him a nod. "Well, it's been fun, but I have to hit the road. Got a job lined up in the state over and that bail jumper ain't gonna collar himself."
"Sure you can't stay a little while longer?" Faith asked, "Maybe stop by the bar tonight?"
"Wish I could, doll, I really do." He said and pulled her into another hug. "Don't be a stranger and let me know how things turn out with Quintus."
"How about this, if I don't take care of him and he leaves town, he's all yours." Faith said and Jacoby nodded, pulling away from her.
"I can accept those terms. You don't kill the fuckhead and it's open season." He said and she gave him a small, crooked smile.
"I'll walk you out."  She said and they went to the door after Jacoby put the cooler back in the backpack, zipping it up and hefting it onto his shoulder.
"Walter," Jacoby said, stopping by him. "It was nice to meet you." He held his hand out and Walter took it, shaking it solidly. "I'd say take care of her, but we both know how that's going to turn out."
"She can take care of herself." Walter said with a shrug, a small, somewhat proud smile pulling at his lips and Jacoby nodded, the same kind of smiling pulling at his.

Adelaide Redi stood in the run down Brooklyn pub behind the bar cleaning the glassware. Her glance went up to the analog clock that ticked away almost mocking her with how slow time was passing. She could only hope that the way time was passing now, was how it would slow later but she knew that wouldn’t be the case.
It was their last night together.
They were meeting at the Stark Expo Festival but she had 10 minutes left in her shift before she could leave. The sort of friend she was practically guilt tripped into inviting had probably already arrived at the Queens location for the festival and the thought of not being there yet was weighing heavy on Adelaide’s shoulders.
The clock hit 10 and Adelaide was on the move, practically running through the street to enter the subway station. Adelaide jumped on the A train and promptly put her earplugs in as the ride almost 99% of the time would give her headaches if she didn’t.
After a 15 minute ride on the express she jumped off and made her way through the large crowds that were there for the expo. She managed to make it over to the spot the group agreed on meeting at and that’s where her (sort-of) friend Lorraine stood. As Adelaide lightly jogged towards Lorraine, the woman’s body shifted in the opposite direction and her hand raised in a wave. Her gaze moved to see where Lorraine was looking and that’s when she saw him.
Bucky Barnes stood about 50 feet away, tall and absolutely stunning in his sergeant uniform. His smile was infectious as he walked over to the women with his friend in tow. Adelaide matched his smile with one of her own and he laughed as he pulled the orange plugs out of her ears.
“I didn’t think my presence was that annoying to you.” He laughed, tucking the ear plugs in his pocket.
“I took the subway here, didn’t want to ruin the night with a headache.” Adelaide adjusted his tie as she got a good look at him.
“Don’t know how many times I gotta tell you Ade,  you should go to a doctor and get that checked out. Ain’t normal that a Brooklynite like yourself can’t take a 10 minute subway ride without getti-“
Adelaide cut him off with a passionate kiss. Bucky had no arguments as his hands wrapped around the woman he had fallen in love with years ago squeezing her close to his body.
There was a groan in the background and Adelaide pulled away to see the culprit. Steve innocently waved at the two with Lorraine to his left. The two couldn’t have been any further apart, clearly the sparks weren’t flying between them but Adelaide wasn’t shocked. Steve never paid attention to the friends Bucky would always ask Ade to bring for their best friend.
“Hi Steve.” She smiled and the group began walking.
“Hi Ade.” Steve greeted her. “No need for introductions, while you were searching for Earth’s greatest treasure in Buck’s mouth Lorraine and I met.” He smiled knowing the comment would earn him some bark back.
“You know any other night I’d retort back but considering it’s our last night all together I’ll let you have it.” She smiled and locked arms with Bucky.
The group of friends laughed, ate, and joked around. Lorraine had decided to leave early once she realized she was more of a fourth wheel than on a double date. Besides that, the night went on without a hitch, that was until Steve noticed the enlistment tent.
“You’re gonna do this again?” Bucky said, catching up with Steve. The two went back and forth before they inevitably said bye to each other. Steve offered up a wave to Adelaide which made her call out to him.
“You better still come by the bar every Tuesday!!” She grinned as he turned around.
“Wouldn’t miss it, Ade!” He smiled and was soon gone in the tent.
The night came to an end pretty quickly much to Ade’s dismay. She stayed at Bucky’s apartment that night and bid him a farewell in the morning.  Her heart broke. He was the only family she really had, him and Steve.
Adelaide had jumped from home to home, being placed by the foster system since her biological parents put her up for adoption. Each family she was placed with never truly loving her or caring for her so she’d end up back on the streets.
Life on the run was Adelaide’s life. She ended up in Astoria when she was 16, which is where she met Steve in a corner store accompanied by Bucky. In the midst of her stealing food, Steve had noticed the girl and offered to buy her what she had stuffed in her pockets. She was hesitant until Bucky not only took the stuff from her hands but grabbed a few more things and split the cost with Steve and well, the rest was history.
Nearly 9 years had passed since that day and the 3 of them were inseparable. Adelaide had worked in the restaurant business as a server until she reached 18 and moved to bartending since the money was better. Steve and Bucky would regularly frequent the establishment simply because it gave them time to spend all together as well as a free meal or two.
Bucky and Ade had figured out their feelings for eachother around the time he was 21 and she had just reached 20. Steve had known all along. The connection between the two was palpable to everyone but them until the night it finally was. But that was a story for another time.
As the weeks passed since Bucky left, Adelaide kept to her routine of work and home and occasionally stopping by Bucky’s place to check on things, on the off chance she would run into her only other friend but she never did until the one Tuesday night that he walked into the bar.
“I’ll have whatever you’re having,” Steve said with a grin as he entered the bar.
Adelaide spit her drink out as she looked at him. He was taller, buffer, older, and just way more put together.
“Steven Rogers?” She questioned making sure she wasn’t just seeing things.
“In the super soldier flesh” he laughed.
“Jesus, what the hell happened to you?” She threw the rag she had over her shoulder on the bar and walked over to him. “Ron, I’m taking my 30!” She yelled as she escaped from behind the bar.
“Long story.” Steve grinned, engulfing her into a hug.
“Well I got 30 minutes, come on.” She shook her head and led him out of the bar and they started to walk down the street.
_____________
“You don’t read the papers?” Steve looked at her after he explained everything. “I mean I don’t blame you, it's all over exaggerated. I just want to serve.” He shook his head.
“In their defense, you are kind of over exaggerated, Steve.” They reached the end of the block.
“You might be the only person who isn’t completely freaking out over this.” He looked over at her with a chuckle.
“I’ve known you for how long now?” She smiled up at him now, something she’d have to get used to. “You’re practically a brother to me, I know you just as well as Buck does, maybe even more because I pay attention to more.” She laughed as they strolled back to the pub.
“You’re still the same Steve. I can tell.” She said looking forward and then came to a stop to glance at him “So what is there to freak out about?” She shrugged, keeping his eyesight for a moment before she continued walking.
“The whole science experiment ability that the world can do this type of thing doesn’t freak you out?” He questioned catching up.
“There have been stranger things to happen, you just might not know it yet.” She smiled back at him as she reached the door of the pub and re-entered the building.
They changed topics quickly as he sat at the bar and ordered a drink.
“Bourbon?” She asked, holding up the bottle as he nodded.
“You hear from him? Letters or anything?” He asked her knowing it was probably a touchy subject.
“One letter.” She said walking away to other customers at the bar. She clearly didn’t want to discuss it. Steve knew that she had no family, no real friends. She had acquaintances from work but other than that she was alone. Bucky and him were the only close friends she had.
“Lady! I need you to refill the soaps in the bathrooms before you leave tonight!” Ron, the bar owner, called out. Her eyes rolled, as she walked backed over to Steve’s side of the bar.
“It’s weird hearing people call you that.” He smiled at the use of what the bar owner called her, Lady.  Everyone in her life called her Lady, a nickname common from her full name. The only people who had called her Ade were Steve and Bucky. Buck had been the one to shorten her name and Adelaide never stopped him. It just felt right coming from both of them.
“You got special privileges, Captain.” She smiled and refilled his drink with water.
“So you do read the papers!” He laughed realizing she called him by his own new nickname and she pointed to one of the patrons at the tables who had a newspaper wide open with the headline of Captain America on display.
Steve hung out for the rest of the night and finally decided he’d ask the girl what he came here for in the first place. “Ade, I got a question for you.” Steve said as the woman wiped down the bar and started to lock up the registers.
“Go for it, Rogers.” A smile filled her face and she grabbed her coat off the rack and locked the front door of the pub and brought the metal gates down. “You can ask me as you walk me home.”
The two of them exited the pub. “I’m going on this kind of tour, I guess you could say, ‘Captain America meets America and beyond’ type of thing. We’re going to like 30 different cities and then we’re gonna head over to Germany. Wanted to know if you’d come with.” He asked as the two of them walked on the nearly empty New York streets.
Steve knew Adelaide was alone, with Bucky gone he was honestly worried for the girl and he figured why not invite her along.
“And what am I supposed to do? I don’t exactly have many skills, Rogers.”
“Come on, Ade.” He bargained with her. “First of all, don’t sell yourself short.” He scoffed at the girl's lack of confidence. She was exceptionally smart along with having a wild intuition. Between her street smarts and the things she picked up in school, Adelaide was smarter than Steve and Bucky combined and the both of them never let her forget it.
“You can help backstage, I’m sure once we’re in Germany for a couple months there’ll be a bar you can end up running on your own. It’s traveling! No roots, just seeing the world!” Steve tried to persuade her.
“I got that here. I don’t need to uproot myself.” Her eyes rolled as she picked up her pace.
“Ade, you’re all alone. I’m leaving in two days. Buck doesn’t get back for another year and if he decides to reenlist then you’re looking at more time. Just come, who knows maybe we’ll even run into the guy.” He offered up a smile.
“Why are you doing this, Steve?” She asked as they made their way to the subway station and Adelaide took her earplugs out of her bag.
“Because like you said, you’re like my sister. I hate seeing you alone, I know we’re the only family you really have and I just could use the company too.” He began to walk her down the stairs.
Adelaide contemplated the offer. Truthfully, she knew Steve was right, she wasn’t the best at getting close with people. With the only two people she confided in, gone, it would be tough for her.
“Don’t send a car when it’s time to go, I want you to pick me up and you better tell everyone my name is Lady.” She pointed at him and turned around putting her earplugs in her ears and disappeared onto the platform leaving Steve there with a smile on his face.

Winifred looked up at her dads from her spot on the couch. She was accosted after getting home from the train station by both her fathers asking to meet her loosely named boyfriend, Peter.
“I don’t want you to scare him away,” she stated, her eyes narrowing as she looked at them.
Steve let out a sigh and ran his hand through his hair. “Freddie, we just want to meet the kid that you are seeing, that’s all.” He looked at his husband, who had a pained look on his face; he nudged him with his elbow and raised a brow, “Right Buck?”
Bucky looked at him and grunted with a half hearted nod before turning to head into the kitchen.
“Daddy, promise me he will be nice to Peter,” Winifred pleaded, “he’s really a good guy.”
“I know sweetie, and I promise to keep your dad in line as best as I can.” He took a step forward and kissed the top of her head before following Bucky to talk to him.
Winifred fell back against the couch with a sigh. She knew this day would come when her dads would find out she was seeing a boy at her school (mostly study groups or friend dates) and would want to see him. It wasn’t something she was looking forward too, mostly because her dad, Bucky, was a bit overprotective of her, which her other dad would explain it as he used to protect him when he was a kid and he was an older child.
She reached for her phone and took a deep breath as she sent Peter a message asking if he wanted to get some ice cream tomorrow
My dads want to meet you.

Steve walked into the kitchen seeing his husband scrub absentmindedly at a pan he used to prepare dinner. He wrapped his arms around his waist, pressed himself into him, and rested his chin on his shoulder.
“You don’t have to be a grumpy pants,” Steve started softly, pressing a kiss at the junction of where his neck and shoulder met.
“I’m not being a grumpy pants,” Bucky practically growled, “just...she’s too young to be dating.”
Steve tried hard to repress his chuckle, and failed. “Hun, she’s almost seventeen. You really think she was going to go through school without one boyfriend?” Bucky grunted and kept scouring the pan. “Just be nice to the kid. From what Natasha said, he’s in the honor roll, loves technology, and is pretty awkward. Doesn’t sound much like a fiend to me.”
“I just don’t want to see her get hurt,” Bucky admitted softly, setting the pan down into the tub of water. He leaned his head back to rest on Steve’s shoulder and sighed. “It doesn’t help that she looks a lot like Becca.”
“I know hun, but she is seventeen. She’s allowed to grow up and date and get hurt. Look at us.”
“That’s why I don’t want her to be hurt. I was that guy who broke girls’ hearts,” Bucky replied bitterly.
“It's a life lesson. Remember when I broke your heart?”
“If Peggy was a guy, I would have broken her face,” he growled, turning in his husband’s arms, and braced back on the sink with his hands.
“You always were a jealous one when it came to me,” Steve teased, leaning forward to nudge his nose with his. “Thank goodness times changed and we were finally able to be us.”
Bucky snorted and the corners of his lips hitched slightly. “You’re such a romantic,” he replied with a roll of his eyes.
“You love it,” Steve scoffed, smiling fully, “besides, if I could, I would have done the same to the girls you dated.”
That had Bucky laughing, head hanging back. “Oh...oh Steve. That’s a sight I would have loved to see. Dot would have kicked your ass.”
“Peggy would have kicked yours,” he countered, narrowing his eyes.
“I’ll make burgers,” Bucky stated, trying to gain his composure again, “and you can make the salad.”
“No, I’ll make lasagna. That way you can’t poison the kid’s burger,” Steve countered, kissing his husband’s cheek. “And don’t argue.” He felt Bucky’s jaw clench but he nodded slightly. “Remember, Freddie can handle herself and the kid passed Natasha’s screening. Just try to be good when he comes on Saturday.”
Bucky grumbled something with Steve only picking out the words ‘dead’ and ‘our baby’.
Tumblr media
Peter looked at Winifred and swallowed hard. She had just dropped the bomb that he was hoping he wouldn’t have to hear for another month, maybe year.
He had just nodded and agreed, never one to tell Winifred no for anything. So when he got back to the apartment, his Aunt Mae could see the fear washed over his face.
He was going to meet Winifred’s dads tomorrow night: Steve and Bucky Rogers-Barnes.
Aunt Mae helped him figure out what to wear and say when he got to Winifred’s house. She had him go to the flower stall down four blocks to pick out a bouquet of his girlfriend’s favorite flowers while she started on making a pie for him to take. At that suggestion he stopped at the bakery another block over and ordered a dessert at their suggestion for “meeting the parents”, which they had decided on tiramisu.
He wore a button down with a vest and tie and his only pair of slacks. He nodded to all the things that Aunt Mae said he needed to remember: be a gentleman, listen closely, answer questions truthfully, and be respectful. He took the pie from her and the bouquet and kissed his aunt’s cheek before making his way down to the bus stop. On his way to pick up the tiramisu, he threw the autosious pie in the garbage out of sight of their apartment. It was a long forty minute ride to the MTA railway and even though the train ride was only twelve minutes long, it felt longer than the bus. Not to mention his stomach was in knots the closer he got.
The Rogers-Barnes home was a cute brownstone nestled on one of the side streets a short walk from the station. He climbed the stoop and took a shaky breath to try to calm his nerves as he reached up and knocked three times. His stomach flip flopped over the scenarios that could happen if one of her dads opened the door.
He could hear someone running down the stairs (so he assumed) and Winifred’s familiar voice called out.
“I got it!”
She opened the main door and smiled at him through the screen.
“Hey Peter,” she breathed.
He looked her over and smiled. She was wearing a black knee length skirt and a white button down under her signature leather jacket, which was one of her dad’s old jackets from their time in the war. Somehow it had stood the test of time.
“Hey Fred,” he replied, his shoulders relaxing slightly.
“Freddie, invite the boy in!” A booming voice sounded behind her and she rolled her eyes and opened the screened door.
“C’mon. Daddy made lasagna because he was afraid Dad would poison your burger,” she smiled, but Peter wasn’t sure if she was joking or if she was serious about one of her dads wanting to kill him. He also didn’t know which one was ‘Dad’ and ‘Daddy’.
He followed her into her home and looked around slightly in awe. He hadn’t been in a brownstone before, but he was impressed with what he saw; the living room was bigger than his own apartment’s shared living room and kitchen. He looked around in awe before he remembered he was holding flowers and the tiramisu.
“Oh, um, I got you some flowers,” he stammered, holding them out to Winifred with a nervous smile. “And I brought dessert, if that’s okay?”
“Sure it’s okay,” Winifred replied, taking the bouquet from him and he noticed that her cheeks were dusted with more pink than normal, which made him swell with pride that he did something right. “You can bring that into the kitchen, that’s where Daddy is right now. He’s just getting the bread out of the oven.”
Peter followed her, holding the box with two hands, his eyes roaming around the room. The kitchen was bright white with dark cabinets and silver accents. He saw a tall, broad, blond man standing over by the oven holding a tray.
“Daddy, this is Peter,” Winifred stated, a smile plastered on her face. “Where’s Dad?”
The blond smiled and set the tray down, removing the mitts and walked over to the two of them, his large hand extended to him. “Hi Peter. I’m Steve. It’s great to meet you finally.”
Finally? Has Winifred talked about him before they started to get a bit more serious? No, Peter thought, they’ve been in the same group of friends for the last two years and Winifred was always cautious about bringing friends around her home as she was afraid of how her one father would react, especially with boys.
“I’ll take that from you,” Steve added, taking the box from Peter’s hands and setting it on the counter.
“Oh, it’s tiramisu. I just thought, um, that you all might like it?” he said with little confidence.
Steve responded with a smile and rested a hand on his shoulder. “Relax kid, we’re just normal parents like everyone else's.”
“But impressing two dads is harder,” Winifred laughed before adding softly, “so please, be nice.”
“Alright,” Steve chuckled, holding his hands up, “why don’t you get your dad, Freddie, and I’ll get those flowers into a vase for you.”
“Behave,” she warned, pointing a finger at him before offering an apologetic smile to Peter before she disappeared through the double doors that went outside of the home from the kitchen.
“Scouts honor,” Steve teased back, holding up two fingers together. When Winifred closed the door, the blond man looked at him, amusement in his eyes. “You’re good kid. Relax. Bucky’s bark is worse than his bite. Freddie is his little angel, and he doesn’t want to see her hurt. He was the same with me when we were kids, hell, still like that.”
Peter nodded and relaxed a bit at his words. “Fred said that he would have poisoned my food; was that a joke, right?”
Steve raised a shoulder and looked off towards the door. “Nah, he wouldn’t’ve.”
Tumblr media
Winifred sighed heavily when she turned to see her other father standing at the far side of the garden, smoking. He knew she hated it, so did Daddy, but she knew it was more to calm his nerves. She walked towards him, rolling her shoulders and putting on a gentle smile.
“Dad,” she said softly, “Peter’s here.”
Bucky turned quickly, his hand holding the cigarette whipped behind him, thinking that it would be enough for her not to see what he was doing.
“Hey baby girl,” he smiled through a held breath.
“I already saw you, so you might as well finish it.” Winifred rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. “I know this has to be nerve wracking for you, but Peter is nervous as hell, too. I promise you’ll like him. And if it eases anything, all we’ve ever done is hold hands and I’ve kissed him on the cheek like, three times?” She scrunched up her nose and squinted her eyes and she tried to remember the times she had kissed Peter, making the quiet kid blush deeper than the reddest tomato.
“Kissed?” Bucky blinked, as he let out a long breath that held smoke. “You really like this kid?”
“Yes, dad, very much so,” she replied, her tone holding her irritation and impatience. “Please finish that and come inside? Daddy has everything ready and he’s trying to keep Peter from fleeing the house. Just please be nice. For me?” She pouted and looked at him through her lashes, a look she knew he had a hard time ignoring because, according to both of her fathers, she looked just like her Aunt Becca, who was the only other girl that would melt their hearts.
“I will try my best, Freddie. I can’t make any promises,” he replied as he gave her a wink and put out the cigarette.
Tumblr media
Steve outdid himself, like always, and made not only lasagna, but he made a salad and worked on making fresh bread for the meal as well. The kid brought a dessert, which Bucky thought was overdoing it a bit, but he watched the way Freddie and Peter were together and his heart melted to see his daughter happy.
Bucky tried hard not to grill the teen during dinner, but he wanted to know everything about the kid.
“Are you in any sports?” he asked before taking a bite of bread he used to sop up some of the sauce from the lasagna.
“Oh, no, sir,” Peter replied with a slight stammer, scratching the back of his neck before clasping his hands in his lap, “I–I am not really coordinated enough. I stick with tech stuff mostly.”
Bucky could see that his daughter had reached for Peter’s hand under the table as she looked at himself with narrowed eyes. His eyes widened at her as his shoulders raised slightly as if to ask how a simple question would make Peter feel awkward.
“Bucky likes the sciences as well, don’t you hun.” Steve always looked for a way to smooth things over, and here he was trying to rescue Bucky from their daughter. But in those words, the kid seemed to relax and look at Bucky with a more keen look.
“You like science? I would have thought you were more of a jock.”
“Oh I was that, just a closeted nerd,” Bucky chuckled nervously. This was supposed to be a dinner to get to know the kid, not the other way around. He reached for his water and took a long drink, hoping it was enough for them to move on to the next subject but no, his husband and daughter had to keep it going.
“Oh yeah,” Steve smiled, “he loves Tolkein and space stuff. And especially technology. He likes to come off as a rough and tough jock, but he’s really a sweetheart.” Bucky glared at his husband as he set the glass back down, clearing his throat, but before he could say anything else, Winifred piped up.
“He used to read me The Hobbit when I was little, it’s the reason why I love the whole Fellowship,” she beamed as she looked at Peter. “He also helped me with every one of my science fair projects when I was in elementary.”
“‘S not a bit deal,” Bucky muttered, “every father does that.”
“Daddy helps with the artsy stuff, you help with the more sciencey things,” Winifred countered, looking at him with wide eyes, “you know Peter’s science fair project is to see if cigarette smoke affects plant growth.” She raised a brow at him that reminded him very much like his sister: the silent judgment and accusation.
“Only because it was one of the last three that were in the hat,” Peter replied and Bucky could see his cheeks reddening. “Mr. Harrington thought it would be fair that way.”
“Flash got measuring the vitamin C levels in fruits, so I think you got the better straw,” Winifred smiled, her hand coming up from under the table to wrap around his arm. “Have a bit of confidence, Pete.”
Bucky watched as the kid turned towards his daughter and smiled brightly, the tips of his ears pink as wrinkles formed around the kid’s eyes. He could tell just by the way he looked at Winifred that he knew his feelings were genuine. They rifled into a conversation about the upcoming science fair, too engrossed into their conversation to notice neither of his parents.
“I don’t think he’s going to hurt her,” Steve whispered in his ear, his shoulder nudging Bucky’s. He turned towards his husband, who had an annoying smirk on his face.
“Shut it, punk,” he growled, jerking his shoulder away from his, but there was a slight tilt to his lip.
“She’s happy, he’s happy. They are both obviously have puppy love for each other,” Steve continued as if Bucky hadn’t said anything.
“Still wasn’t ready for this,” he sighed, taking his husband’s hand in his.
“Wasn’t ready for what?”
Both Steve and Bucky looked from each other to the otherside of the table to see their daughter looking at them.
“Uh,” Steve started, looking at her and then at Peter before he blushed and looked at his husband.
“Ready for you to date,” Bucky bluntly stated, “but you seem like a nice kid, Peter. Just don’t break her heart.”
“Oh n-no, M-mr. Barnes,” Peter stammered, “If anyone is gonna break hearts, she’ll break mine.”
Bucky raised a brow at him, looking at his daughter for clarification, but she just waved him off and rolled her eyes.
“Fred is perfect; she’s funny and easy-going–” Peter swallowed hard when he saw Bucky’s attention turn towards him, the brow still hitched. “I mean, she doesn’t care that I’m at school on a scholarship, like most kids. She could treat me like I’m not worthy, but she does.” He gave Winifred a bashful smile and looked at Bucky. “I really don’t mean anything malicious towards her, sir, honest.”
Bucky could see Steve smirking next to him, squeezing his hand just slightly. “Well,” Bucky sighed, “I guess I can’t argue with that.”
He noticed both Winifred and Peter finally looked relaxed, sharing a smile with each other. They both were nervous for this meeting because of him? There was a part of him for giving in, rolling over so they could be at ease, even though he was as well. He smirked slightly as a thought rolled through his brain, one that he was both confident enough would keep the two teens behaving or could make him go down a path of worry. Before he could make a better judgment, his mouth opened.
“Just make sure you use a condom.”

“I feel like I’ve been replaced.”
“How so?”
“Because you’ve spent the last two weeks with your crew chief instead of me.”  Frank mock pouted at Liv while she laughed.
“We were just hanging out.  We went to London for a few days.  And nothing happened.” She could see the smirk forming.
“So, what is going on with Buck-a-roo?”
“Don’t call him that.” Liv took a sip of her coffee.  “We are talking, hanging out, getting to really know each other.” She popped a shoulder, “its been nice.”
“Has he made a move?”
She shook her head with a shy smile.  “He wanted to kiss me after the race, but I turned my head.  I’m not ready for that. I don’t want to rush.”
Frank smiled.  “Well, good for you.  He’s a good guy.”  He swallowed his coffee. “What about Rogers?”
A flash of anger went through her eyes.  “I don’t care about Rogers.  He is my teammate. Nothing more.”
Frank frowned. “But you were…”
“Yes, I was and he just… he went…” she sighed. She couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone about what she had seen.  What he had done to her. “Whatever, it doesn’t matter.” Her phone beeped and she smiled. “Bucky wants to do the walk through.  I gotta go.”
“Have fun Bug.”  Frank smiled. She was finally smiling after a couple of months of heart ache.
Bucky was leaning against the Red Bull trailer, texting with a small smile when he noticed Steve. He goes to wave but gets a filthy look instead, causing Bucky to frown. He wasn’t sure what Steve’s problem was, but he ignored it as Liv came up.  “Hey Bug! Ready for the walk through?”
“Sure boss. Got my special kicks on,” flashing her pink hi-tops.
“You are such a girl,” he smirked at her.
“Duh,” as she sipped her iced coffee. Bucky laughed and then pointed where all the drivers were gathering for the walk through. Liv and Bucky stayed in the back, laughing, and joking as they moved around the track.
“So here and turn 5, you want to be careful about leaving the track. You don’t want lap times deleted during qualifying or a penalty.”
“Don’t leave the track, got it.”  Liv started to shuffle backwards near the edge. “Oh no boss, see I’m drifting.”
“Liv, be careful,” Bucky warned her as she walked near the edge. He could see it happening and she hit a grove on the edge. He caught her before she hit the ground. “You are a pain in my ass.”
“Thanks for the save.”  She stood up and her face darkened. “I guess Rogers was right.  I am clumsy.”
“Not clumsy, doll. Just gravity challenged.” He held onto her hand.  “Stay with me and I’ll make sure nothing happens.”
“Ok.”  She looked down to where their hands were joined.  “Gonna let me go?”
“Do you want me to?”
“Not really, no.” She blushed as they continued to walk.  They stayed behind everyone, until Charles noticed and nudged Johnny, who got Lance’s attention and soon the entire group could see that Bucky Barnes was holding hands with Liv Williams.
Steve was seething. That was his girl and now his best friend was making a move.  After the walk through, Olivia had some press, so Bucky headed to the main trailer to look over some numbers. Steve slammed the trailer closed, making Bucky jump in his seat.
“What are you playing at Buck?”
Bucky turned to look at Steve. “I don’t know what the fuck you are talking about, punk.”
“You know what, jerk.  Olivia. What is going on?”
“Why do you care?  You have been ignoring her for weeks.”
Steve scoffed but Bucky saw a flicker in his eyes. “She’s leaving.”
“What?”
“I heard her.”  He hung his head.  “I heard her talking to Lloyd Hansen and get offered a full contract.  She used us to get a spot at Mercedes. She’s going back to Drysdale.”
Bucky looked at his best friend with anger.  “You are a fucking idiot.”
Steve snapped his head up. “Excuse me?”
“You’re an idiot Rogers.  Liv would never go to Mercedes, especially for Drysdale.”
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that you should use your words, you moron.  She is not leaving.  She told Drysdale that she wouldn’t drive on the same team, no matter how much money.  Bet you anything she said the same thing to Hansen.  God Steve, you can be so dense sometimes.”
“But I heard her…”
“And you should have asked her! Instead, you broke her spirit, shut her out.  She thought she had a family with us, but you just had to go and ruin it.  Fuck man, just leave her alone.” Bucky moved to walk away but Steve grabbed his arm.
“Are you with her?” The look of fear crossed his face.
“No.” Bucky shook him off.
“Not yet.”
And he walked, official pissed off at his best friend.

Qualifying goes better than the last race for Liv as she ends up in sixth.  Waking up on race day, Liv sits at the window overlooking Zandvoort.  She sips her coffee as her phone buzzes.
Bucky: Morning Bug. Breakfast?
She looks at the message and smiles. She is about to reply when she gets another.
Rogers: Can we talk?
Olivia sighs and leaves the message on read before replying to Bucky.
Olivia: Can’t. Promised Frank already.
Bucky: Can I be a little jealous?
Olivia: If you want.
Bucky: I’ll see you at the track, beautiful.
Liv can feel the blood rushing to her cheeks.  She starts to get ready to head to breakfast with Frank.  After, they head to the track, joking and shoving each other just like old times.  Steve observes how happy she is and takes a little comfort that she’s with her best friend and not his.
It’s a terrible race.
But not for Olivia.
Steve has an engine that blows four laps before the end.  Once back in the garage, he throws his helmet, frustrated at the result and then watches as Olivia finishes 2nd again. From the sidelines, Steve watches Liv park, and jump out of the car and race to the team.  She hugs Frank first, but she is lifted and spun around by Johnny Storm. He says something to her, and she blushes before she comes over to Bucky who wraps her in a big hug and a kiss to her head.
With arms crossed, Steve watches the podium as Storm, Liv and a surprising Lance Tucker in 3rd go through the ceremony.  As they are announced, each driver shakes the hands of the officials, but Johnny goes one further and kisses Olivia on the cheek and she immediately blushes.  Steve grinds his teeth.
Olivia is walking back to her trailer with her trophy to shower and head to dinner with Frank, Andy and Bucky, not really paying attention to her surroundings.
“So, you’re fucking Storm too?”
Liv whips around to face Steve.  “What the fuck are you talking about?”
“I see the way Storm looks at you.  You fucking him and my best friend?”
Liv couldn’t stop herself.  Her hand shoots out and slaps Steve with everything she had, his head snapping back and he looks back at her shocked.  “I am not fucking anybody!”
“Right.  You just hang out with Bucky, Storm is kissing you on the podium.” He raises his arms, “what am I supposed to think?!” He took a breath.
“You have no right to ask about what I do with my life. You made that perfectly clear!”
Steve looks at her confused. “What? I haven’t said anything…”
“I SAW YOU! I SAW YOU MAKING OUT WITH THAT MOTO-HO JUST TWO WEEKS AFTER YOU KISSED ME!!!” Liv’s chest was heaving, trying to keep the tears at bay.
Steve was stunned.  “You saw me with Suzanne” he asked quietly.
“If that’s her name, then yeah, I saw you.  You ignored me, for reasons only you know.  You made out with another woman and then I crashed, and you never came to see me.”  Olivia was fighting her tears, trying to keep it together. “I thought we had something. I thought you cared.  I thought… never mind, it doesn’t matter.  I saw you.  But you don’t owe me anything and I certainly don’t need to explain my life to you.  You made that choice for us.”
“Livie, that… it wasn’t what …”
“Forget it. Stay away from me.  I’ll be gone at the end of the season as I don’t have a ride so you can forget all about me then.” Steve’s face was shocked, but Liv didn’t stop.  “You took me and broke me.  I hope you get everything you wanted. Only ten races and then you’ll never see me again.”  She shoved him away and ran to her trailer.
Steve had his hands on his hips and bowed his head.  He truly was his own worst enemy.  Because he was pretty sure that Liv wanted more with him and he threw it away.
Liv changed and called for a car.  She pulled out her phone.
Olivia: I think I’m going to call it a night.
She climbed into the car and headed to the hotel.  She wiped an errant tear from her cheek.  She had almost blown it. She had almost told him that she had fallen in love with him.  Her phone dinged and she looked.
Bucky: Everything ok?
Olivia: I’m just tired.
Bucky: Want some company?
Olivia: Not really. Thanks.
Liv made it back to her room and changed into her pajamas.  She sat and grabbed two whiskeys from the mini bar before she turned on the TV.  She downed one before she heard a knock on the door.  Rolling her eyes, she got up and answered the door.
“One woman party doll face?” Bucky leaned on the doorway and gave her a smile.
“I wanna be alone Bucky.”  She went to close the door.
“Bug,” he stopped the door. “What happened?”
“Nothing.  Nothing happened. I just… this year should have been the best year of my life.  And its been a clusterfuck.  I miss my dad, I miss home. Fuck, I miss Steve and its all just hitting me.”  She leaned into Bucky’s chest as she started to cry.
Bucky wrapped his arms around her as she cried. “Bug, Livie, I’ve got you.  Frank, Andy, Tony, even Steve will always be there for you. And your dad is always with you.”
“Bucky, I can’t do this anymore. I think I’m going to talk to Andy to find someone else.”
“No. Liv, you told your mom that Williams never quit. I won’t let you quit.  C’mon doll face.  Let’s just get some food and another whiskey.  I’ll let you cry about it, you can scream about it, but you will leave it here tonight.  You will leave it in this room.” He picked her up and took her back into the room. They had pizza, they drank some more, she screamed at the world and then fell asleep with her head in Bucky’s lap.
Bucky ran his fingers through her hair as she slept. And his heart was conflicted.  Because as much as he loved Steve, he was starting to fall for his girl.

“Oh, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to my baby, happy birthday to the most handsome man in the world, happy birthday, Buck baby, happy birthday to you.” Bucky felt a smile tug at his lips as his wife's body laid cross his body, singing softly in his ear, so as not to wake the rest of her family.
“I’m getting old, baby. Lay me out in the field and let the crows feast on me, yeah? My bones say I’m getting too old for the late-night shows and rising with the sun. So leave me behind, baby girl. You are far too pretty for a man like me.” Sparrow howled with laughter as she smacked her husband with her cold pillow alerting their huskies from the end of the bed and making them bark.
“James Buchanan Barnes, I know you be joking, baby, but you are only three years older than I am. I am in my prime, Sir. If I’m in my prime, you can sure as hell bet you are in your prime. Now, I need you to open those beautiful eyes and open the birthday gift I worked extra hard on getting you this year.” leaning over her husband, Sparrow reached over the side of the bed where she lay, grabbing the bag from the floor taking a deep breath, putting a smile on her face.
Bucky sat up in bed, his bare back against the upholstered headboard, smiling as he took the blue bag from Sparrow. Opening it, he found a small shoebox, his brows instantly coming together in confusion. Pulling the lid off, he found a small pair of cowboy boots that would barely fit a few of his fingers.
“Love, These aren’t going to fit me. They might fit Mimi, though.” Bucky looked at Sparrow, who had thrown a robe and sat beside him with the blue bag, shaking it. Bucky took the gift bag from his wife and looked at the bottom to see some black and white photographs. His jaw almost immediately dropped when he looked back up at her.
“Are you serious right now?” Bucky thought he just might cry as soon as he saw that Sparrow was indeed crying, taking the sonograms from his hands.
“All it took was a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection, your grabby hands after the show in Dublin, and we are making a mini us.” Sparrow laid her head against Bucky’s shoulder.
“We did it, old man.” kissing his shoulder and brushing her finger across the face of the baby on the sonogram.
“I suddenly don’t feel so old. I will be a dad in, let's see, six months! September. Do you know this is probably one of the best birthday gifts you have ever given me?” Bucky looked down at Sparrow, noticing she was doing the same.
“Yeah, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top this Buck. So happy birthday, may this be one of the best yet.”

The hand not palming her breast slid between her soaked folds causing Carina to moan at the touch. One finger slid inside her, just a little further and it would be right where she needed it. Carina groaned in frustration. Her own fingers couldn’t do the job, she wanted Bucky’s hands on her, fantasizing had stopped working after the third day and now she was cranky.
“It’s not like he wants me anyway, just dumped me in here and ran.” She grumbled to herself, flopping over onto her stomach.
He cares about you and wants your first time with an alpha, with him, to be special. The reasonable part of her brain protested.
Hitting the bed in frustration, she sat up and headed towards the small fridge to down a bottle of water. The sight of little containers of fruit made her stomach grumble and she realized she hadn’t done a good job of feeding herself. She was relieved to feel something other than the constant want and cramping though, giving her hope that the heat would pass soon. The fact that she was thinking this clearly was probably a good sign. Sighing, she grabbed a container and went to watch a random movie on tv.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Buck you gotta shower at least. You’ve been in this hallway for five days.” Steve approached, carrying some food for Bucky to where he had taken up guard duty outside your temporary room.
“I can’t leave her, I told her I would be here when she comes out.” Bucky rose and took the tray from Steve. Despite them being state of the art, Bucky didn’t trust the doors to keep you safe should a determined alpha try to get to you. That was his job. Hopefully she would still think it was his job. The heartbroken look on her face as the door had closed had haunted him. He did the right thing, Wanda said he had, she wasn’t ready. Then why did he feel like he had made a huge mistake.
“She’s going to understand Buck,” Steve continued, correctly interpreting the look on his friend's face. “You two are meant to be or something. If you want I can stand guard while you shower and change clothes. You don’t want this to be the sight that greets her.”
“Dr. Cho said her levels are coming down, she should be ready to come out by morning.” Wanda added, appearing in the hallway behind Steve. “I can stay here also.”
After another moment of thought Bucky nodded his head and took off running towards the elevator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr. Cho arrived to visit Carina the next morning, checking her vitals and tsking at her for not eating. “The real question is whether you want to continue on the suppressants, I know you and Bucky were…” she trailed off with a wave of her hand.
Carina blushed and bit her lip. She had given this some thought but she knew she wanted some time in her own space to really think everything over. “Can I go off the suppressants but stay on birth control? I don’t think I’m ready to go quite that far.”
Turning to the bag she had brought with her Dr. Cho pulled out a needle. “Of course, one injection every three months and you should be good to go.”
Wanda arrived as Dr. Cho was preparing to leave. “Bucky was waiting outside, he’s been there since we shut the door, except when Steve forced him to shower but they were called away on an important Hydra mission that Fury needed him for…” she trailed off, not sure how her friend would take the news.
Carina looked shocked, “He waited outside the whole time?” Biting her lip when Wanda nodded to confirm. “I…can you help me with something?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bucky slammed his fist into the punching bag hard enough to send it flying across the room to join the others. “I think that’s enough for today, we gotta get ready.” Steve’s hand on his shoulder only calmed Bucky a little. “She’s going to be there, Pepper confirmed it, you can talk and sort this whole thing out.”
“I told her I would be there and I wasn’t there, after shoving her into a containment room when she started her first heat in over a year. She’s probably halfway across the country by now.” Bucky sat down hard on the bench, taking a drink of the water beside him. “She hasn’t answered her phone, her door, I haven’t seen her in the office Steve. She’s gone.”
“Wanda said she just needed some time to sort stuff out, you two have something Buck, she’s not running away from that. Go take a shower, put on the suit Tony picked out for us and be prepared to grovel if needed. Plus if you don’t go, Brock will see that as his opening.” Steve added with a shrug, laughing to himself when Bucky shot up and headed to the door.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Are you sure about this? I haven’t spoken to him in over a week. He’s probably moving on.” Carina smoothed down the dress for the hundredth time as she turned to catch her reflection in the elevator door. Pepper had informed her that Tony was having a publicity event for The Avengers and that she was more than welcome to come but understood if she needed more time to recover. After dwelling on it Carina had decided to enlist Wanda’s help, she wanted Bucky and she wanted to make sure he wanted her too. They had found a pale pink one shoulder gown with a slit up her leg high enough to make her blush. She left her hair down and added a simple chain necklace that matched the silver in her heels.
“Sweetie, he’s going to lose his mind when he sees you. You look beautiful.” Wanda smiled, holding her hand as the elevator doors opened and they entered the party.
She was shocked at the amount of people milling around, some danced while a band played, others stood near the bar waiting for drinks, Tony and Steve were already surrounded by photographers and reporters. Wanda was pulled away by her brother but gave her hand a squeeze of encouragement.
Taking a deep breath she began looking for Bucky.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Dude…” Sam’s abrupt statement and tap on his arm pulled Bucky away from staring at the glass of whiskey he hadn’t touched. He turned to follow Sam’s gaze and his breath caught in his throat at the sight of Carina walking towards them.
The dress flowed around her, a flash of leg showing with every step. She stopped in front of him, smiling at Sam before turning her attention to him. “Hi Bucky.”
“H…Hi Baby…Carina. You look beautiful” Bucky stuttered and she giggled when Sam full on laughed. Bucky shoved his glass at him before grabbing her hand. “Can we go talk somewhere?”
“I would love to dance…” she suggested, allowing him to lead her away from Sam towards the dance floor.
He pulled her close with his metal arm around her waist, holding her other hand tight to his chest. Her heels make her tall enough to lean her forehead against his cheek, letting her body relax into the safety of his arms. There is a moment of silence while Bucky presses his nose to her hair, breathing in the homey smell that surrounds her.
“I’m so sorry I wasn’t there Carina, I wanted to be…” She cut him off with a shake of her head as she lifted her eyes to his.
“You have nothing to apologize for, I actually wanted to say thank you. You knew I hadn’t been with an alpha before…” she trailed off, taking a deep breath. “Thank you for not taking advantage and keeping me safe.”
“Keeping you safe is my new life’s mission, I still want to be your Alpha, if you’ll have me.” Bucky whispered.
“I want that more than anything.” Carina replied. Bucky’s smile was blinding when he leaned down to kiss her.
“Sorry to break this up. Avengers needed for some photos.” Tony appeared beside them causing Carina to jump.
“Fuck off Stark” Bucky growled. Carina patted him on the shoulder when a phone ringing caused Bucky and Tony to look at her with confusion. “Where is that coming from?”
Carina blushed before pulling the slit in her dress aside and grabbing her phone from the lace garter she was wearing. “Sorry, I have to take this, go take your pictures, I’ll find you after.” she nodded at Bucky before answering her phone and heading away from the crowd.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Thank you for calling back Mrs. Zimmerman, Pepper will be thrilled to know you are willing to loan us your expertise. I will send over the papers on Monday morning. Have a great night.” Carina hung up her phone and did a little dance.
“There you are, wasn’t sure if I was going to get you away from Barnes.” Carina turned and saw Brock leaning against the wall watching her. She took a step back when he pushed off the wall and stalked towards her. “Haven’t been able to stop thinking about how good you smelled last week.” Her back hit the wall at the same time she realized he had blocked off the only escape route. “Don’t worry buttercup, we’re all alone.”
