So Frieren not only has met the wish granting grimoire in the past, but is actually part of her teaching tree, she taught Flamme! That’s a pretty cool reveal. Frieren turning down the chance to get any spell she wanted was so badass. Even as a young mage she was determined to chart her own path. The best part of magic is discovering your own and even back then, Flamme knew Frieren would be the one to defeat the demon lord

Could definitely tell this is a shonen with episodes like this. Lot of action and Madhouse cooked with the sakuga. Beautiful looking episode from start to finish and the storyboarding was great.

Respect for trying it, but Denken got his ass beat lmao. “She’s stronger than Denken and richter” uh duh, didn’t you hear Denken introduce her as the hero party’s mage?? Poor Laufen actually fell for the bait to try and save her party member. At least it shows how much she cares about him.

Richter had the advantage in the fight against the girls until Frieren demolished the barrier preventing water from getting in. Insane scene btw, everything about it from the colours to the OST to the look on the faces of the administrators when they saw the barrier break, chills. But Richter realising he’d fucked up was hilarious. Lawine’s water magic is so broken.

I like how Denken still not giving up on the exam tho, if they can’t get it with magic, a good old fist fight against a party down a member is always on the table lmao.

Lmao the look on Ubel’s face when Fern mentioned her spell that lets her see through clothes.. if it’s not destroying enemies, she’s perving on them, no in between 😂

And that’s the end of the first phase of the exam. Two days until phase two, can’t wait to see what happens in this one.

There's a scene in One Piece where Koby is talking about his frustration and disappointment with the Marines as an institution, and Helmeppo tells him "Well, you just have to become some big shot and fix it all, right?" and Koby agrees with him, and that's got me thinking about how, in canon, Koby's endgame is pretty clearly going to be exactly that -- he's set up as not only Garp's successor but as the one who will surpass him. Koby's goal is to become so powerful and so influential that he's able to enforce massive reforms on The World Government's Entire Military, which is. No small task! Koby's motives are so selfless that it's easy to overlook that, actually, he's aiming for just as much power and prestige as the other top hitters. This man, like so many others in One Piece, is trying to swallow the sun, and it's been made clear that he's one of the few who has what it takes to actually succeed.

And that has me thinking about people constantly being surprised and confused by Zoro's loyalty to Luffy, because Zoro could be a pirate captain in his own right. People keep expecting him to be gunning for the crown, and we're told that if he did, honestly, he might make it! Zoro has the makings to be Pirate King, or at least to be a top dog, an emperor of the sea. People see his skill and his ambition and they assume, and every time he has to be like "Nah man, you got it wrong, my dreams start and end with that grinning rubber idiot over there. Yes, really."

and all of THAT has me thinking about Koby's Bad Day, and how hilarious it would be if Koby ALSO dealt with that on occasion. Technically he already does have experience as captain of his own crew (although being a captain in the navy isn't really the same kind of autonomy and freedom as a pirate captain, that's not Nothing!) and he certainly has the skills and the strength to get peoples' attention. However, unlike Zoro, Koby is very much Just Hanging Out. Like, Zoro knows he's hot shit, and it doesn't surprise him when other people point it out to him. He understands where the confusion comes from. He just corrects people and moves on. But Koby? If somebody just started assuming that Koby must clearly be the REAL captain, or that obviously Koby must want the Pirate King title for himself, I think Koby would explode. I don't think he'd know how to react. And I think it would be really, really funny.

Anyway I'm just sharing thoughts cause I'm on a reread. Thank you so much for writing this fic btw, easily one of my faves and reading it is always such a blast.

First of all you are SO right, Koby would combust at the idea of being a contender for Pirate King. Where on earth would anyone get that idea?? Well, Koby, you’re a very powerful pirate with potentially the best observation haki in the entire world. People are gonna assume.

But of course Koby still mentally thinks of himself as a Good Boy, hasn’t fully reconciled with the fact that he is objectively and inarguably a pirate, in a world where most pirates are back-stabbing scumbags. He’s a member of Luffy’s crew, he is very proud to call him Captain! But honestly I think he sometimes forgets that they’re pirates, since 90% of the time they’re not doing anything illegal 😂

Combine that with the fact that he chronically underestimates how strong he really is, and that he is Luffy’s most ardent supporter? Yeah the Pirate King comments would BAFFLE him.

GAHHHHHH just finished watching the last G-Rosso & despite watching a lot of times when I was there I am still amazed by it 🥹

They definitely did add in a bit more scene or change from the beginning. Especially the Rita, Himeno & Jeramie their let dance is so cuteeee & I couldn’t stop laughing At Kaguragi & Yanma flirting it gotten too ridiculous hilarious 😂 (Poor Gira)

Of course with the camera up close can see a lot of stuff like there was one part I saw Jeramie ‘s Kumonoslayer the key & lock fell out I was like EHHHH but Masashi (Jeramie) was good at picking it up without being obvious & fixing it with his cape blocking his action 🥰

As usual they got their dance & after show.

They were waiting for any suggestions from audience until Kaguragi suggested that they do KING-OHGER GATTAI

It was a mess! Gira, Yanma and Himeno were all set they even say their Shugods name (in a different voice from their usual) while docking with each other hahaha

Rita was like ehhh we are really doing it?!?

Then they sort of restarted hahaha it was messy to say the most.

So they say their Shugods name while sort of docking together

Gira was in middle

Yanma at the back

Himeno on the right bottom

Kaguragi on the left bottom

Rita sort of like did like hook up on Gira on the shoulder (like how it docking) before moving to the right side as the Sword

Lastly was Jeramie who just hook himself in btw Yanma and Gira

Although they couldn’t agree on the right name once formed 🤣😂 one moment it was King Ohger or Legend or Extreme or God hahaha. So they did it again.

I will definitely watch it again this basic on mostly memories right 😅😅😅

Afterward they had some message to give us mostly is that they still got more story to tell & their thanks.

Then they wave off Himeno did say see us next at Shizuoka their first stop for Final live tour.

Voiceplay Visuals: Friends On The Other Side

This was one I was ridiculously eager to get to, because it is an absolute visual treat!!! Layne and the rest of PattyCake Productions really went all out with this video, and I think that it might actually be the most movie-accurate video for a Disney cover that Voiceplay has ever done (and although some things are changed, it's all so amazingly cool that you don't care in the slightest!). Also J None came back for this one to take the lead as Dr Facilier! Heck yeah! Let's get into this! (Oh and nearly forgot to mention: this was uploaded in mid-October of 2021 and was Voiceplay's Halloween upload for the year).

We got Cesar as Prince Naveen (perfect casting btw) (also he looks a bit different without more of a beard, but I don't hate it), and Eli as Lawrence, Naveen's servant (also another Eli Eyebrow Raise! And a strong one, too!)

PattyCake Productions has their own YouTube channel where they create videos based around Disney movies and Disney characters (often writing original songs for them) and it shows. They really went off with the costuming and set design (better than Disney would do with a live-action version of their own, almost definitely)

(Also peep Geoff lurking in the background, which I don't think any reactor has noticed when watching the video)

A more full-body look at J's costume (and cool staff!), plus Geoff and Layne as voodoo spirits! (Also note how Geoff is, once more, the one with the most-exposed arms/shoulders (love that for him 👌)

Geoff was asked on a Patreon Q&A or something like that if the thumb-down-the-side-of-the-head movement had any meaning to it, but no, he just thought it up himself as a little interesting/spooky/cryptic gesture (I mean... it worked??)

(Also there's so much detail to his outfit and I love it! The subtle patterning on the vest! The things that may or may not be fingerless gloves! The metal boney-finger things hanging off the shoulders! All the things around his neck! (And yes, he's still wearing the necklace he wears all the time)

And shoutout to Layne, who as you can see in the photo above this one, is wearing basically just as much stuff around his neck as Geoff, and he's got a (fake of course) bone through his nose as well? (I know the official audio is all overdubbed anyway, but I wonder how hard it is to beatbox with something like that on/in your nose?)

Now this is goddamned clever. How do you split the vocal lines of a single character up between multiple vocalists while still making it make sense in-universe? Well in this case, you have Dr Facilier work some voodoo magic so that he and/or the spirits are singing through Lawrence and Naveen, kinda sorta possessing them! The video is enhancing the song itself!!!

I actually went and watched the original Friends On The Other Side scene on YouTube (which I haven't done in ages), so I could better make comparisons, including screencap comparisons!

Also I just realised that after "Naveen's" little "I got friends on the other side" solo, while "Facilier" is echoing it as he sits down, "Lawrence" is attempting to get "Naveen's" attention with his eyes, and making facial expressions/head movements that can basically be summed up as "Hey! We need to leave! Now!"

(Seriously it often pays to focus on different people when rewatching Voiceplay stuff (or in my case when scanning for interesting/screencap-worthy moments, to rewind specific parts to focus on different people))

There's a lot going on in this picture. And also this moment made more sense after I rewatched the original scene (just that Voiceplay are swapping out the amulet for a shrunken head (fair - it's probably a lot harder to find an amulet that bites 😂))

Firstly, nice bit of acting/visual storytelling from Eli and Cesar there, and secondly, hey that's the magic lamp from Aladdin in the background on the left there!

And I haven't talked about it a ton here, but J 100% understood the assignment when it came to playing Dr Facilier. He even did some of the same kinda dancing/moves as in the original scene, like the side-to-side head movement on "I hope you're satisfied" (it was so smooth!)

Firstly I love yr blog♥️♥️. Sorry this is just a bit of a rant. In regards to the “dolls kissing” and realising characters don’t have/do have chemistry comment in sjms recent interview. Sjm did a YouTube live in mar 2020 and in a question about hunt @ about the 19min mark she literally talks about this exact scenario happening, as we all know Bryce was originally going to have a diff L/I but the wording/explaination in the live about what happened with him and then hunt was so similar, almost identical in places, to her recent interview. To me, it’s clear this was what she had in mind when making those comments. I honestly think anyone who took that comment and applied it the the az/el/gw bonus chapter is being deliberately obtuse. Sjm didn’t write the az/el (who are both central characters) part all steamy and stuff and go you know what, actually that didn’t wk/they dnt work, i could/should just not include it, but nah imma leave it as is and just immediately have him go to another character and have her be his next love interest, that’s super hot right?? people will dig that right?😂😂😂. Come on now. Plus she then decided not to go back and start making it clear, dropping hints in the ACTUAL book that perhaps something is happening/brewing between az/gw after the bonus scene was set🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ and start alluding to what their story arc would be and how gw would have connections to the next books plot, for all 190+ countries in the world that didn’t even get the bonus chapter🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.

Oh, of course. She wasn't even probably talking about ACOTR or Elriel. She was discussing CC in general, and as you mentioned, in that interview, she said that she was gonna be matching Bryce with someone else but then during the interrogation scene with Hunt, it was just too good a chemistry and she changed her mind. i suspect that she was meant to be with Tharion. Not sure why, but the fact that he became so aimless as a character tells me that there was something else initially planned for him. Once he was no longer with Bryce, SJM sort of semi-gave up on him.

But with Elriel--it's not the case at all. There's been consistent, steady build up and then it culminated with an almost-kiss.

IF there was any kind of serious LI change and Azriel and Elain were moving apart, then obviously, SJM would've introduced more scenes between Elain and Lucien, and between Az and Gwyn. Especially with Az/Gwyn, it would've been hilariously easy, since they are hanging out together, she is Nesta's friend, they are training, and basically all live under the same roof. It would've been IN the actual book, since Nesta would've been able to observe it all. Instead, Nesta watched the other priestesses go all mooney eyed over Azriel, and Gwyn is like 'I wanna cut the ribbon!' Zero interest. From both of them. Nothing happens, other than he is tormented more and more over Elain. And almost every scene with him is strangely tied to Elain --what happened with Elain? Watching Elain. Worrying about Elain. Elain should not be exposed to the Cauldron (btw, he was so right). Elain smiles at him. Has he EVER asked after Gwyn? Nope. He legit forgot she was in the Blood Rite. Elain got into a fight with Nesta and he was about to fight Nesta.

SJM had said this a couple of times, how she changed her mind about a few of her couples, but Elriel is certainly not one of them. Slow and steady is what they've been.

Went to see the Vampire Dies in No Time Stage Play on Tuesday night! Will gush about it under the cut, but have some shitty pics of the poster here:

Basically: it was great!!

Since it’s more an episodic gag manga, I wasn’t sure how they were going to handle pacing and all that, but they did a good job of touching on a good variety of stories by combining them and making them flow surprisingly well.

The whole thing was only two hours with no intermission, but it didn’t feel too short or rushed. Then again I’m recovering from mild food poisoning that I accidentally gave myself last night (I was SO worried I wouldn’t be able to go but I’m mostly ok) so maybe it just felt like a good time to tap out for me lol

I thought they might just adapt in the order of the anime, but they touched on some stories/characters from the manga that haven’t been in the anime yet, which was great (main example I can think of rn is the Vampire That Makes Idiots Powerful)

The costumes were SO good, which I’m coming to just expect from Marv productions. It was surreal in the opening titles song when all the cast first assembled, because it was really like seeing the characters from the manga in real life. In terms of costumes, my favorites were probably Draluc and Ydan. Oh, and the blow up prop that was Hennadoubutsu/Weird Animal (think car sales lot tube man thing but not quite that tall and pink. When they first blew it up his head got stuck against the doorframe and they had to tug him in a bit. Not entirely sure if it was an organic gag or scripted but it was funny either way)

I didn’t see them on the poster so I wasn’t sure if they’d be included, but the vampire brothers (Yakyuken/Micro Bikini/Invisible Legs)(boy that’s some trio out of context huh)(they’re my favorite btw lol) were very much included. I was interested to see how they’d do the invisible legs (I was contemplating a cosplay if I could find, like, super reflective fabric or something) but they just made Tohru’s legs black and joked that they could totally see his lower half at some point.

There were a lot of good meta jokes actually! Which is in keeping with the manga for sure. There was also a lot of singing, and Draluc got the first song (called “Team Up Confirmed” after Fukuma tells Ronaldo to include Draluc in his book), which lead to a meta joke about how in the manga Draluc canonically is terrible at singing. His reply was basically“Yes but stage play me is excellent at it ;)”

I think my favorite song was from Ydan but my favorite part overall was probably the audience participation bit in the middle when Yakyuken is introduced (with all his brothers, as some vampires Mikazuki encounters when he comes to Shin-yoko for the first time). Basically most of the audience had multicolored John pen lights and they were all waving them and “playing Yakyuken.” (I didn’t get one bc the ticket and the transit fare was already over budget for me this month >_>) High energy and the music was super fun!

One of my favorite meta jokes was with the trio of grade schoolers; two of the actors were really short and almost looked like kids, but the third was obviously just a man and Draluc had a go at him over it lol (“Wait a minute, one of you is definitely an adult.” “What?! Why would you say that? What makes you say that?!” “Your looks.” “Name three things!” “Ok, I’ll name three things about your appearance: your body shape, face, and height.” Other kids: *start screaming to move the scene along*)

The actors were all great but Draluc’s was probably the standout, he was veryyyy good at the physical acting and got all of Draluc’s flounciness lol

Speaking of Draluc, they had LOTS of different props to represent him dying and it was hilarious seeing a new one almost every time 😂

Examples:

-kiddie pool of styrofoam packing peanuts dumped on his head while he falls to the ground

-grey textured fabric pulled from grade schooler’s backpack and draped over him

-hiding behind a cutout of a pile of sand stuck in from the side of the stage

-a kuroko (stage hand dressed all in black to move props etc, meant to be ‘invisible’) bringing out a cutout but lying it facedown on the stage with a bit sticking up for the actor to step on, raising the cutout when he dies

-kuroko waving streamers on sticks (idk what you’d call them, like feather dusters except not feathers and longer?) with similar grey textured fabric in front of him

-various cast members flapping flags made of that fabric in front of him and then him indignantly collecting the flags from them in the background while Ronaldo was in spotlight

And probably one or two more I can’t quite remember

Bubuo (my least favorite character in the manga but good here) had a short standup interlude where he talked to the audience directly, which worked bc the actor was very charming, and also Ta-Chan came out and roasted him. There was a good joke later where Maria almost killed him while hunting a bear because he was wearing a “shirt that looks like BBQ” (he was wearing the yellow BBO hoodie) and he sounded so betrayed when he went “It’s an O, not a Q!!”

The final act was the Tsujigiri Nagiri intro arc BUT if Draluc and John hadn’t destroyed his effigy. Basically, Nagiri attacks Kantarou as per canon but Ronaldo jumps in to stop him, so Nagiri starts targeting everyone he knows.

Then they all ambush him together but it doesn’t seem to do much (Nagiri lost one of his knives in this big group fight and it flew off the stage lol. Luckily I don’t think it hit anyone but it was just sitting there on the floor for the rest of the scene. He was very professional and just kept on with the fight scene with one empty fist), until Draluc has an idea.

Which is to call on the Vampire Makes Idiots Powerful, who’d been popping up here and there throughout.

So then the whole gang has to tell stories of times they were being dumb as per the manga chapter while fighting Nagiri, then Draus shows up to help, talking about his texting mishaps. And then Ydan shows up and does his thing, and Ronaldo finishes him with a “boobs smell good” punch (a statement that I as a boob haver still wonder about sometimes. I mean they don’t smell different to the rest of the body do they? 😂)

Anyway, lots of good stuff, absolutely worth the price and going with a stomachache lol

Okay I love movie Bowser. 🤭 He was definitely the best part of the movie.

The singing part? Glorious, hilarious and silly-cute. He’s a mix of Joe Cocker and Meat Loaf and somehow his singing voice is exactly what I imagined. He plays piano too, and it looks like they animated him actually playing what you hear, too. (A lot of movies are bad about that.)

I’m perished and gone because I was hoping to see him be musical and I got fed real good with that.

“Jam with me” HAHAHAHA POOR KAMEK.

There was twice where he asked a question that I yelled “yes” to as an answer because I couldn’t help myself. 😏

And both the Bowser x Peach shippers and the Bowser x Luigi shippers got fed some fun morsels to play with.

The mid-credits scene had me on the floor dying. It’s so funny! AHAHA! And the post-credits scene made me yell (IN A GOOD WAY). I won’t spoil those!

Btw movie Bowser is scaaarily close to how I write him in fanfics. I just…er…write a version of him that’s a bit more adult and explicit. But the personality aspect? Dang. 😂 He’s a big ol’ sap!

The whole thing was fun, kinda wished it could go on longer. The critics trashing it are watching for all the wrong reasons.

Willow season finale some thoughts &stuff

Ermahgerd!!! The end... 👀👀👀😱😄

But first things first... I was so frickin scared going into this. I had a crappy first half of the day and when I got around to having time to watch I hesitated, afraid I'd be disappointed again &turning a crappy into a horrible day... I wasn't.. it didn't.. 😅

Anyway, some scenes and thoughts..

Sibling & "lovers" reunion scene was delightfully awkward &weird.. Wtf Airk? Acting like nothing is wrong.. He guys great you made it!🥴

The cliff scene with the rest of the gang went pretty much exactly as I expected, including Willow not jumping at first.

Meeting unexpectedly hot Crone.. Also not far from what I thought would happen.. I was pretty sure they'd end up caught in an illusion type thing. I had even had considered a wedding scenario once, still surprised that actually happened. A surprise was Madmartigan's involvement.. Hadn't considered that! (It makes me think it really was his voice Kit heard in the treasury in the mines.) Anyway..

(There's someone far better suited.. he just needs to get through his corruption arc first.. *coughs* I'm getting ahead of myself..)

I am doing very minor revisions of Daemon’s Handbook (mostly formatting and continuity errors), and I wanted to do some behind-the-scenes commentary before too much time passes and I forget my original thoughts. Here’s Chapter 6!

(Note that these commentaries aren’t canon to the verse until/unless the author writes them into the series. I might change my mind on a few points later, but these are the thoughts I had while writing.)

This was the first chapter that really made me worry about tonal shift in this story. We get into some more serious topics than usual, but it was necessary to address them in a somewhat serious manner. But I wanted to make sure the fic stayed in the comedy category. So I ended up doing a sandwich method with funnier bits at the beginning and end, and keeping the serious drama concentrated in the middle. But I also tried to weave in Daemon’s sassy mental commentary etc. to prevent things from getting too heavy.

During the course of this fic, Daemon /thinks about cutting/threatens to cut off at least 5 of Aegon’s body parts. Three of those incidents happen in this chapter alone.

I spent A LOT of time thinking about the Hightowers’ reaction to the elopement, because I admittedly did not plan it well when I started the fic. In the show, Alicent hated the Jace/Helaena match because Jace is a bastard and Alicent would have to sacrifice her daughter as a potential hostage. In this verse, it’s the other way around with Jace as the daughter, and legitimate to boot, so Alicent doesn’t have much to object to. On the contrary, I think Alicent *likes* Jace in this verse because Jace is very well-behaved and is a good influence on Aegon. If Alicent disapproves of the elopement, it’s because elopements are scandalous and, more importantly, it makes Helaena look bad as Aegon’s original betrothed. Thankfully, Helaena is a huge Jacegon shipper and totally not offended.

Otto’s reaction was pretty straightforward once I thought about it. In the show, he suggested betrothing Rhaenyra and Aegon, which would have united their claims and prevented bloodshed (one hopes) while getting his blood on the throne eventually. The Jacegon match does the same thing one generation later. And in the worst case scenario, the Greens have Jace as a hostage since usually the wife moves in with her husband’s family (one of the reasons Daemon hates the match).

Someone in a discord server suggested that maybe Otto planted the idea of elopement in Aegon’s head (they were of the opinion that Otto would be the #1 Jacegon shipper in this verse), which would be *hilarious*, but I haven’t decided if that actually makes sense. But if I could somehow make it work, that would be fantastic lol (Can you imagine Otto yelling at Aegon “just seduce the girl, dammit” 😂😂😂)

Rhaenyra is the one who has reasons to protest the match because, as she says in the chapter, she thinks Aegon would be a bad husband. She’s also been dealing with Otto’s attempts to betroth Jacegon since Jace was born, so she is kind of tired and wary of it whenever it’s mentioned. She knows Jace likes Aegon, but she thinks it’s a “good girl crushing on a bad boy” thing that Jace will grow out of. (I’m imagining a crushing conversation where Rhaenyra explains to 6-year-old Jace why she can’t marry Aegon 😢)

And Viserys makes things worse, as always, by betrothing Aegon and Helaena, which makes zero people happy. Viserys was supportive of the Jacegon match when the Hightowers proposed it, but Rhaenyra objected so he didn’t press the issue. (It’s not like he’s the king or anything, right?)

Btw I forgot that Viserys loses his hand sometime before Ep 6, so in this verse, we’re going to pretend he decays less slowly and still has both hands because he’s less stressed or something.

The image of burrito!Rhaenyra strapped to Dreamfyre makes me giggle. She’s determined to be in King’s Landing for whatever conversation happens about Jace, but she’s postpartum so she can’t sit on Syrax as usual, then Helaena offers to take her on Dreamfyre if the Dragonkeepers can make what is essentially an adult car seat. Rhaenyra is pretty helpless in this position, literally strapped in behind Helaena, so I imagine there had to be a good deal of trust between the half-sisters here. It helps that Helaena is close to Rhaenyra’s daughters in this verse so Rhaenyra knows her better.

Daemon and Rhaenyra’s vocal objections to Aegon’s character really make an impact on Aegon. I was strongly influenced by a Tom Glynn-Carney interview where he described Aegon as “desperate to be loved but destined to be hated.” In this verse, Aegon finds that Jace fills that need to be loved but he isn’t sure he deserves that love, so Daemon and Rhaenyra’s arguments unwittingly strike very close to home. And that’s why he does the something stupid later in the chapter, so he can prove he’s worthy.

I was so excited to make my joke about Lannisters shitting gold that I forgot Lord Beesbury is still master of coin while Tyland is master of ships. So I retconned Beesbury into retirement and promoted Tyland. My bad.

Jace and Rhaenyra have a loud, healthy, mother-daughter argument this chapter, which Daemon conveniently sleeps through. While Jace is at Driftmark, she learns more about Rhaenyra’s youthful misadventures, and Jace still has *feelings* about the Daemyra elopement (which was only 9 months before this chapter), so this leads to Jace feeling some complicated resentment toward her mother. But they work it out.

This is the last chapter where Aegon and Aemond are afraid of Daemon. Starting in Chapter 7, after they come back from the Stepstones, they’re much less intimidated by him. Poor Daemon, he can’t even have the simple pleasure of terrifying his nephews. 😔

Another retcon: Helaena’s prophecy this chapter originally said “Gold and bronze.” I was trying to refer to Sunfyre and Vhagar but the show is too damn dark for me to see what color Vhagar is, so I honestly thought she was some kind of brown/bronze, and the fandom wiki wasn’t super clear either. Then I read a HOTD behind-the-scenes book that describes Vhagar as jade so I went with that. My bad (again).

I just want to say that one of my favorite sentences I have EVER written was in this chapter. “The queen…wore a smile so tight that it could probably garrote a man.” 🖤

Aegon’s spiel about a boy becoming a man when “he has seen his own blood flow and heard his teeth crunch under the blow of an opponent” is based on a quote by a 12th-century chronicler named Roger of Howden.

When Aemond shows up in the garden in the final scene, Viserys honestly forgets his name at first. Dad of the year, y’all 😭

i fully recognize that having a coder POV say "The bugs, miraculously, became rarer and smaller" is the biggest ask in the fic in terms of suspension of disbelief. maybe when jeremy is better at this they'll realize they were wrong about that. not in a "this update is secretly a time bomb" way but in a "holy shit i can't believe i used to think this was good programming" way

i still think it's funny whenever i reference jeremy muting themself after the FIRST TIME it came up where jeremy acknowledged that "muting themself wasn't any different from a human just choosing not to speak." i love my weird robot child.

i still like the "C-c-c-c'mon, Jeremy, can't you see, we've got a date, so concentrate! We'll start with us, just me and you, some deja vu, and then ensue: your microchip plus our friendship-" implying "the squip" being sung in the same lovestruck voice as the chorus usually sings "christine."

^ i usually pick a song to write the summary from based solely on vibes and character focus. the fact that this was from Upgrade rather than two player game was a dead giveaway regarding michael's intentions btw.

writing michael after that last mall scene has been so weird. on purpose. but like everything he says is a catchy line ending on a discordant note. the sudden pivot from slowburn to joking about having sex and humanity = romance. every time michael interrupts or talks over jeremy instead of going out of his way to set a good example, i wince lol. encouraging them to stop thinking so much. ignoring every one of jeremy's soft "no"s because they're inconvenient. Here Are Our Stereotypical Nerd Spots and Here Is Your Mandated Giant Teddy Bear and Here Is My Secret Condom. (jeremy sprinted into the sunset before we got to that part and we all thank them for it.) jeremy never once having indicated that they wanted to actually have sex any time soon but michael did everything in his power to make sure the date would end that way without a single worry about what jeremy told them about chloe.

i don't think it's spoilers to clarify that michael was in the driver's seat for all of that, but was in a situation where he was very incentivized to listen to the SQUIP. and jeremy looooves squips so obviously the SQUIP is the expert on this, not michael :P

madeline offscreen: constant orgies, pretending to be from paris, scheming femme fatale madeline for the 2.3 seconds she was onscreen: i swear quebec is better than people give it credit for wait don't go-

jeremy's definition of breaking up with someone is, consistently, running away from an emotionally charged moment and convincing themself that they hate them. lol.

christine accusing jeremy of talking at her was also a direct response to the author trying to get on their wikipedia-level-of-philosophy-knowledge soapbox again. btw on that note, observation selection effect seems to only be mentioned in places as a synonym for the anthropic principle. it is more specific than how jeremy defines it, being an existential thing about how "the range of possible observations that could be made about the universe is limited by the fact that observations could happen only in a universe capable of developing intelligent life" (~ wikipedia <3). i get away with a lot of bullshit claims, some of them even intentionally bullshit, bc the character making those claims is reading even less of the wikipedia article than i am.

but that was transparently just a nod to the book being one of the many parallel universes that are foundational to how the squip works in canon

speaking of references that delight me and me alone, in-character phantom of the opera reference re: pageboy

i think all the main/supporting cast all think they're the main characters. except jeremy! not because of jeremy 1.0's insistence that he's not a leading man, but because they have been so busy with observing themself that they haven't even considered anyone else observing them and coming to different conclusions. (see: the PA system joke with michael which alerted the ENTIRE SCHOOOOooool 🎶 to their situation, which in jeremy's narrative, was just a gag as part of a longer fun flirty convo with michael, brought up for laughs and then forgotten.) (it's not like it's plot relevant as in that it doomed them or anything, but just a signal that not everyone perceives the fic events like jeremy does!!)

they're trying to learn to be less self-absorbed (and i'm not saying that as an insult so much as an accurate description of their default thought patterns) but it IS a learning curve. for all their self-reflection, i would describe them as a very reactive person, which is also probably why they (along with jeremy 1.0 and keanu squip) constantly struggle/d with needing a sense of control

im aware that despite christine's in-character criticism of the narrative i wrote 🙃 that she's here for exposition and emotional closure. she knows and she's not happy about it. it's a consequence of writing the story i wanted to tell but that doesn't make it immune from criticism. it's a good question for me, that the story i wanted to tell DID involve removing her agency so much. but i don't see that as a question that needs a direct answer or for me to defend so much as something to reflect on after it's over. in the meantime christine ma'am i'll give you something good in the epilogue i prommy, and i'll add something about this to my notes now that i think about it.

OMG yes!!!! The precinct/parlor blending was so good!!! And also narratively I felt like it was a very clever way to summarize the investigation (and also having scenes with everyone) without getting boring or dull! C'est vivant ! 😅 Et Gilles qui fait ses dents c'était à mourir de rire en effet 😂 I must say when it comes to the Gilles content this season hasn't disappointed so far...

And same re Laeticia, I did not expect her at all but it was a really nice callback, although it felt a bit underused re the plot? In the end, she just delayed Morgane's release by ratting her out but narratively it didn't change so many things so she felt dangerously close to a sexy lamp 💡 Also I'm not sure where you're finding a social commentary in her arc but I'm all ears!

The jumpscares were hilarious, also I absolutely adore Morgane's night mask with cat eyes prints matching her T-shirts 🤩 Et le coup de la cagnotte, ouiiiiii, parce qu'entre nous vibes, but also it was so cute? the whole team doing their best at getting her out even when it means paying a lawyer? Awwwww 🥰🥰🥰 And yep, 100% Engrenages vibes, and not only because Audrey was a lawyer in there 😅

The whole making friends with the other prisoners and the fantasy of Morgane getting into PI pro bono work sounds very reminiscent of Crazy Ex Girlfriend, no? Between Rebecca's time in jail and Paula's pro bono work...

In your scenarios with Birdie being a moth there was that scene when she needed to breastfeed and so she just whipped out the girls without much thought to heat/wire/killer being in the room (which was HILARIOUS btw) so a few questions based on that

1) was she always that bold when it came to feeding her kids when it came to the first two or was it more of a “by the third she just didn’t gaf and wanted to get it done” kind of thing😂

2) so in Captive kid didn’t really seem to have that much of a serious issue with birdie being nude in front of others like killer (like when she went out in his coat) and kind of used it as a way to embarrass and poke fun and her, so when he freaks out at birdie for poppin a tit in front of his most trusted crew members was it an actual “I’m worried they might get lustful thoughts about my girl” thing or more of a “it’s the principle of the matter” thing?

3) did birdie get any particularly weird pregnancy cravings? I know some of them stem from the baby taking too many vitamins or minerals so I can just imagine her spooning salt into her mouth like “fuck it I need something salty right tf now and this is the quickest solution”

Also just some funny thoughts I had: I feel bad for Doc cause being a pirate doctor probably doesn’t exactly require a lot of knowledge on pregnancies so the poor man probably had to study up on it real hard and have to see parts of birdie waaay more often than he would’ve liked to😂 also I can just imagine Heat being the best boy he is getting Birdie a little something as a kind of baby shower gift since she helped him out with getting a lady gift I can see him shyly giving her a poorly crocheted blue baby hat that’s way too big but it’s the thought that counts🥺💕 (also I was the one who originally suggested it so let me again say: justice for kid!! Give the man a little titty suck after the actual kid gets their turn for curiosity’s sake!!)

Actually, the scene you're referring to happens with the twins, her first kids. So yeah, she didn't care much from the beginning. The thing is birdie doesn't really mind her nudity in general, it's not something she's particularly prudish about. Even before having kids, she mentions that every man had seen her naked at some point. She probably saw them too. If she trusts someone, it's not a big deal for her.

Kid doesn't care about her nudity in the early phases of Captive, when he doesn't have feelings for birdie yet. As his feelings grow, so does his possessiveness. That time with Killer, Kid wasn't actually present and he didn't see the incident. However, when it comes to his trusted men, it's more of a "principle" thing. He's not jealous because he thinks they may try something, or lust over birdie for real, but he doesn't like that they know her body and can picture her naked. He wants to be the only one who knows all of her scars, moles, spots, whatever.

I bet birdie had a lot of cravings. I will write something about it in the future, probably a one shot on her second pregnancy. I also think Heat is the one who indulged her the most, he would get up in the middle of the night to get what she wanted more than Kid would. Killer also would make sure that they're always stocked up on different kinds of food. Kid is less patient, so he'd let them handle it for the most part, probably force some of the other men to be at birdie's disposal too. 😭 But he would be there for the horny phase, that's for sure, he was waiting for it like his personal hot Christmas. ♥️

I haven't really written anything on birdie's first pregnancy because that happened when they were still in the scramble for the One Piece, so the situation was very complicated. I have ideas, but I'm waiting to see what happens with the Kid Pirates in canon because I want to know if/how I can turn it canon for my stories.

But yeah, the doctor would have to dust his knowledge on gynecology and obstetrics a lot, and Heat would be best big bro. ❤️ He'd definitely get a baby shower gift for birdie, probably force the other men to do the same.

I read online a rumor that an older Sylvie ends up behind the TVA and plays a villain. If that's true, it means Kang might get the Loki Treatment and be edged out of the show for Sylvie. Is Kang going to pine after her, too now?

I keep hearing the "don't like, don't watch" platitude about it all, but it's horrid. Our favorite character gets his own show after years of us latching on to the anemic trickle of Loki content. We look forward to it for so long, then it's got no characterization of Loki in favor of The Magical Mary Sue who's better than every character she meets no matter how strong they were originally. She'll treat them like some poo she stepped in, they'll fall for her after knowing her for not even a week regardless, and she goes "I don't have anyone 🥺" and we're supposed to feel sorry for her? And act like Loki finally loves someone when he loved several people (Thor, Odin, Frigga) to the point of desperation and self sacrifice.

And we're supposed to love Mobius, too. Aww, he calls Loki a cockroach who's only born to bring suffering and death, literally keeps him prisoner, locks him in a time loop to be beaten and degraded! So cute and sweet!

They been to rename the show Sylvie Sucks the Soul Out of Everything and Bureacratic Fascist is Just So Lovable. Sorry for ranting, this has been bugging me. A friend of mine loves the show but never saw the original movies. I had her watch A1 with me and she asked me why Loki was so scary and cold. Ugh.

I heard that rumour too, it would be hilarious if Sylvie took centre stage in S2 after Kang is introduced in Quantmania and the fanboys got mad because she took the spotlight from him (we could use the "first time?" meme on them lol).

The "don't like, don't watch" always makes me laugh. When a movie/series is about to be released and someone says they're not interested they're hit with the "oh but if you don't give it a chance how will you know it's not for you?", so you do watch it but if you don't like it you voice your opinions and then you're hit with the "well if you don't like it don't watch it". Which is it then?!!!!! 😂😂🤦‍♀️

What happened to your friend is what bothers me the most about the series. For those of us who have been watching these movies for years we know the canon, we've seen them at a time when Marvel actually cared about Loki's character so we know his past. But now all the new fans who watch the series first are going to watch those movies with tainted glasses: they'll see the scene with the Kursed in TDW and think Loki is leading him straight to Thor and they will blame Frigga's death on him even though at the time did anyone ever think of blaming him? I doubt it. Now they'll see the NYC invasion and blame him and only him as if Thanos hadn't been the one to send him there -- we even have Banner admit as much in IW.

It sucks. If they wanted to ruin his character and a good chunk of his fanbase then mission accomplished. And my fear is they might use S2 to claim the Loki pre-series was never canon and no more than a Kang puppet who said and did whatever he wanted him to. I hope they don't do that but......... 🤷‍♀️🤢

I finally caught up with watching all of Big Sky, and I have lots of thoughts about it. Mainly because it pleasantly surprised me! Disclaimer: I don’t watch broadcast TV; I mostly binge watch shows on streaming, so my expectations may be from cable TV days.

I thought Big Sky would be more of a detective procedural, but it’s definitely more thriller style. Every ep has a cliffhanger, and the villains are very arch and colorful. It requires a lot of suspension of disbelief LOL, because the plot twists are so zany (example: evil guy has an evil twin brother 😝)! I personally don’t have a problem with that; one of my fave genres is the Hong Kong action film -- those cop movies are over the top and incredibly fun. In fact once I got used to the out-there tone, the melodrama was kind of hilarious and delightful.

It has a big cast and I find them all very watchable. The ladies especially can not only act but are drop-dead gorgeous 😍. I LOVE the diverse casting across the board, where identity isn’t always The Topic although it might inform the character; we just get to see a variety of players getting to participate in telling the story, and that’s refreshing, and I wasn’t expecting mainstream TV to be doing that this well.

The plot lines are really uneven at times, and sometimes it feels like they can’t make up their minds where they want to go with a character, which can be a bit frustrating I think when watching a weekly? LOL, reminds me somewhat of SPN especially in later seasons, where they seemed to meander around a lot till they had to wrap up the mid-season and finale. Binge-watching definitely helped in that case. But the cast is really fun. My favorites are Ren and Donno. I love their quirky symbiotic relationship. I just watched an interview of Janina Gavankar who said they get to improv, and that makes total sense -- they have great comedic chemistry! The villains on the show definitely have more fun; the two leads end up having to anchor a lot of the more serious drama. None of the police stuff is believable, but if you accept that and just see it as a telenovela set in Montana, it’s enjoyable 🤣 Looking forward to Jensen joining up for season 3, and I REALLY hope he gets to do some cool action scenes while scratching his cowboy cosplay itch. BTW, for the hurt/comfort folks, it does seem like someone gets held hostage or shot-but-suprise-not-dead-yet almost every ep 😂.

The Bloody Jack series by LA Meyer. 12 books. features pirates, seafaring, chaos, shenanigans, and a kickass female protagonist who is genuinely one of the most realistically written characters i've ever encountered. 1000% borrowed from this series for FTBF lol. it's a complete series and I firmly believe more people should read and love these books

The Princess Bride. I grew up on the movie and the book (the book is better btw) and I'm definitely influenced by William Goldman's writing style. His tone, his satire, his characterizations, and of course the action scenes--all the things I want to do as a writer. plus PB is HILARIOUS, i wheeze every single time I reread.

anything written by Marie Lu, I will eat it up, probably cry, and then decide I also want to create a character whose story is so completely absorbing that the character steals a piece of the readers' souls

It really depends on what I'm writing and how angsty it is 😂 I definitely listen to sad music for sad writing (looking at you, Noah Kahan), and I tend to rotate between Hozier, my random jumble of an untitled playlist, and the occasional symphony
