garte is so much funnier as the grumpy third wheel to harry and kim than he has any right to be. I feel like a good chunk of what people want out of jean post-canon is just... being garte, when garte can’t be there to be garte. and garte literally usurps jean’s potential pet the dog moment. when harry is badly injured and in need of care, his (about to be) former police partner doesn’t step in to help him but you know who does? that iconically grumpy not-bartender who harry has been idly bullying all game. garte is just such a guy but people don’t make him the third member of the team because he can’t be packed into a suitcase and brought along to every post-canon casefic

i do want to add something that i think something people wont get if they dont watch forever: he is really passionate about content creation and likes talking about the meta of it, even outside of a lore rp context. in his most recent youtube video he talked a ton about how minecraft lets plays on there do and what it takes to do that type of content on that platform versus streaming, and from his streams as well its just something him (and cellbit!) are both really interested in and like discussing.

i dont think theyre trying to meta really hard or ignore the lore elements, i just think they like talking about the practical side of this as content creators (& nerds) and they dont realize how it comes across the others. to them, discussing how the lore impacts their content is important, and i think thats where part of the conflict is coming from.

I've seen a lot of hate towards q!Antoine regarding his treatment of q!Forever, and it's a bit disheartening to see that all of it is because people never watched his POVs.

Though we joke about the fact that q!Antoine isn't human, he clearly isn't. He often showcases how little he understands human emotions, even when Pomme shared about feeling like q!Kameto abandoned her, he did not understand fully how she would hang onto someone she met for 5 minutes tops.

He's been distrustful of literally everyone on the island except for HIS EGG, rejected the idea of a Presidency since the very beginning, and kept track of every candidate as his paranoia only grew stronger with all the stuff the Federation did.

Still he cares. He changed his skin to show the sad face first until Pomme comes back, and to me, his determination to prove that q!Forever should NOT be president is quite literally how he copes. Right now, the eggs are gone, because of the Federation, and who has direct contact with them ? The President. The person that was supposed to protect everyone on the island, who was supposed to be a GOOD thing for the island.

He doesn't see the poor broken human soul, he only sees the job. And it's true that q!Forever is a liability right now considering how unstable he is with the amount of power he acquired. It's cold, and extremely detached, but it's all very much into character for q!Antoine. And it goes against the current of people genuinely wanting to help him even though they aren't the closest because they genuinely believe in q!Forever (q!Etoiles my beloved), which adds VARIETY !!!

Understand that when I kill a character, I have KILLED THEM. They are DEAD. With the singular exception of the supernatural/undead characters in my Slasher series, if someone dies they are finished. Kaput. Muertos.

I can not abide by the writing convention that comic-bookified media has made, where death is only an inconvenience. It betrays heroically self-sacrificial deaths by turning their ultimate sacrifice into a minor setback. It eliminates the ability to write stories about loss, grief, and moving on when the audience believes that the loss setting that plot into motion can be simply reversed.

There is no half-measured angst here. I do not make non-canon AUs for character deaths to occur consequence-free. I do not let magic forces return them to life. I do not let time travelers appear to prevent their deaths. I send them directly to the grave. I write weapons-grade angst. We don't do diet death here.

Getting There:

I recommend sailing west from Lion Point Waypoint, but if this is your first trip to the island, you can also navigate along the southern and western coast from Camp Karka Waypoint. Be advised that this route is longer and more dangerous.

 The event is held on a very tall ledge. I will use a shadow portal to transport anyone lacking a skyscale from the cliff base to the event site.

Event Rules:

Keep it civil. If you want to fight, take it somewhere out of sight, out of earshot, and outside the event space. [This rule applies to both IC and OOC. Some events allow for mild IC confrontation, but this one does not.]

This is an exclusive event. If you do not meet the criteria, you cannot attend. We are not spectacles for your entertainment. [note - that's only an IC restriction, so there's nothing stopping your character from lying to get in. A shiny translucent ball of light, no bigger than a marble, — formerly a part of someone's soul, now rendered noting more than a pretty bauble — lies under a dandelion growing from a crack between pavement and a building, glimmering softly; lacking a name to come back to life, lacking a lack of a name to fade away for good.

It was, at one point, in possession of one peculiar old man, formerly a councilmember, now no-one important, who wished to return the piece to its place; but the place was no more and the piece no longer fit.

It's unclear why it is here, — perhaps the man in his old age forgot where he put it and it rolled away; maybe, once he realized the worthlessness of the light, the man threw it away; maybe he put it there deliberately in hopes of reuniting it with its owner.

The owner, who now for weeks or for months — or who knows for how long, time is not linear nor is it equal — been away, to do something they wished to do for a millennium, or maybe for three; and it's a risky wish but if they were to fail they would return right back, with no memories of going at all.

So the bauble shimmers and shines and remains a glass ball devoid of life — until a moment it's not.

Until the moment, in which, just like the soul that lost its piece in the first place patched itself together, the piece that was lost came to life and started patching the rest.

Until the moment the glass ball became light became magic became soul became someone, who, at some point, was a person.

A redheaded child, no older than fourteen, but with scattered patches of memories spanning centuries but thought to be lost forever, now stands above the dandelion, careful not to crush it.

Lachlan — the only one by that name and the one who possesses it takes a step, and then another, until they're out of the alleyway and are surrounded by magic and life of the City of Towers.
