OMG firstly if someone made a heritage post blog i wasnt aware but literally omg i get it the age of this blog is finally coming into play. ok i went back in my archive for this to see if i could grab some oathbringer era posts too.

so i didnt count events (mistborn fortnite thursday/kelsier skin reveal, mlm renarin night, whatever the fuck happened with the year of sanderson kickstarter) if we are talking independent posts that genuinely had an impact on the culture, here are my picks:

the biggest and most influential one is obviously mistborn fortnite friday (happy mff to all who celebrate). i feel like people genuinely dont know that ella @bridgefourisgayrights posted the original video like. MONTHS before kelsier got into fortnite it was a prophecy and it's been fulfilled and nothing will ever be the same

shakadolin 😈

I have a lot of feelings about shakadolin

On the one hand, arospec!Kaladin is a headcanon that is near and dear to my heart

On the other hand, as someone who is in a relationship with an arospec person, I know that there are absolutely ways to respect that if the person in question is okay with and/or wants a relationship

So with that being said, my favorite way to look at shakadolin is for Adolin and Shallan to be happily married and for Kaladin to be qps with both of them. He’s still uncomfortable with pda, especially if it involves him, and he wants no part of most romantic aspects of a relationship, but these two mean a lot to him and once they get it through his head that they care about him too, he’s tentatively willing to try something with them. I see the three of them developing a comfortable intimacy where Adolin and Shallan still go out on dates, and when they bring Kaladin along it has a less romantic vibe. Kaladin is very much into cuddling and quiet talks late into the evening and having his hair played with and falling asleep knowing that the other two are safe in his arms. Adolin and Shallan love seeing a softer side of Kal, less guarded.

Anyway, I think there’s potential there for a complicated but no less tender and loving relationship. They all care about each other and it takes time and effort to build something that everyone can be happy with

wait wait wait i gotta ask... so you've read the inheritance trilogy... favorite characters? favorite moments? favorite book?

[spoilers for books 1 and 2 of the inheritance trilogy here]

i’ve read the first twoooooo (sorry sorry i’ll read the third SOON i promise!) and so far the second one was my favorite! I enjoyed the hundred thousand kingdoms but having read some of jemisin’s later works you can definitely tell that it was her first novel! and it’s really cool to see how she’s developed since then. 

my fave characters are yeine and oree i loved the ten-year timeskip between books and the contrast between Sky in book 1 and Shadow in book 2 like it was very cool to see that yeine’s actions at the end of book 1 actually did have a huge impact on society! and seeing yeine as the gray lady was cool! also the demon reveal had me :0 but my favorite overall part of the book was oree and madding’s relationship like it's my fault for mostly reading books starring people in their late teens to early twenties but i always appreciate a good complicated mature relationship!

i am excited for book 3 because i feel like there’s a couple obvious threads left open like. okay i forgot his name but the guy who used to be nahadoth during the day when he was still enslaved to the arameris. and oree’s pregnancy continuing on the line of demons (ngl i DID laugh when that was revealed. like of course. of course.)

Atton/Kirnet: 1, 2, 37, 38

1. How did they first meet?

they met on the peragus mining facility, with kirnet half naked and screaming bc holy shit she can feel the force again and atton imprisoned in an electrical field. the ideal meetcute.

2. How did they first get together?

Ok. I actually don’t know. I have a few different ideas and idk which one I like best. They are always kind of dating without ever making anything official but idk exactly which point is the best time for them to actually admit their feelings.

Scenario 1. They get together officially during kotor 2, right before the end game and the council. Honestly not a huge fan of this one bc I love slow burn pining and they’re both too busy to actually have a relationship but also it’s conditionally good when I need that scenario for a comic or something.

Scenario 2. My fave: They get together after kotor 2, where atton almost dies and does that whole confession and kirnet panics for a second before realizing she’s thick of ass and strong of force and force heals him enough to stabilize him to get him off of malachor with the rest of the crew. Very dramatic and angsty confession at the last possible second. Very good. Atton wakes up in the Jedi temple on coruscant with kirnet waiting for him. Very happy reunion and an actual kiss before kirnet tells him she’s going after revan in a few days. This one splits into 2 subgroups

2a. Kirnet finds revan and stops the sith emperor and is heavily injured in the process but through the power of friendship, the force, and kirnets bonkers willpower they get home and kirnet and atton help raise the next generation of Jedi together

2b. The revan novel route. Kirnet fucking dies in the battle and becomes a force ghost to watch over revan. Atton feels her death yet never learns what happens to her. Whoopsies!

It all really depends on what project I’m working on but their main state is ‘not officially together but everyone can tell that we’re a thing even if we don’t realize it’. yes this was way too much information.

37. Thoughts on PDA(Public Displays of Affection)?

They’re both more low key abt it, only really doing scandalous hand holding and pecks on the cheek if they’re feeling spicy. kirnet’s really never done relationship stuff before so she prefers to keep it more subtle as she figures out what the fuck is going on

38. Thoughts on each other’s friends?

Atton does not get along with literally anybody on the ship except for mira sometimes. everybody else on the ship is at least 52% in love with kirnet. it’s extremely awkward and antagonistic and atton is not a fan. i dont think atton has friends for kirnet to have opinions on

Thoughts on ancient literature/literature from Antiquity (poetry, theater, etc.)?

Oh gosh that’s a large subject and I have not read much of it. Um, Antigone rules. Oh! I love Ovid’s metamorphoses, and I think Narcissus and Echo is a hugely under-adapted/retold story (it’s my personal favorite). The immense beauty, poignancy, and tragedy of only being able to echo someone you love, and the way in which the parts of his sentences she echos completely change the meaning just! make me go crazy! there’s one line that I’ve seen translated a few different ways but every translation hits me so strongly. A few different translations are

“ ‘Away with these encircling hands! May I die before what’s mine is yours. She answers, only ‘What’s mine is yours!’ “

“Take off your hands! you shall not fold your arms around me. Better death than such a one should ever caress me!” Naught she answers save, “Caress me!”

Which, yeah, fucks me up. One of my aspirations and what I may end up doing for my senior capstone project is writing a full stage adaptation/retelling of Narcissus and Echo.

Sanderson's only actual meaningful rep is his portrayal of neurodivergency. Every effective racial minority is killed or villainized and the best to be said about his female characters is that they're not misogynist caricatures.

agree! like the most we can say is 🤞 for moash redemption that isn’t specifically him denouncing his former views and swearing by the kholins again. and 🤞 for future lgbt rep. but as of now you’re absolutely right.

(i am very curious to hear ur moash thoughts)

Hi hi. I’m bad at organizing my thoughts but i will try. I think I approach him from a rather different place than you, but he interests me a lot and I don’t want him to die. [Also I’m describing events by memory so hopefully things are correct.]

I didn’t think much of Moash when i first read the series, so it was weird going on reddit after I first read Oathbringer (in 2019) and seeing everyone say “fuck Moash”. I think this primed me to be more sympathetic to him as I reread the books last month (including Rhythm of War). For instance, I don’t think him giving Kaladin the Bridge Four salute was mocking, it felt sincere, in its twisted way.

Stormlight is a series about taking responsibility for your actions, and Moash doesn’t, so he ends up as an antagonist. But...I find this to be a very sympathetic flaw. I can’t hate him for it. I also find it endearing that he tries to numb himself further by doing heavy physical labor, but I suspect this was not meant to be endearing. After he leaves the war camps (but before he kills anyone), he thinks about his time with Kaladin Bridge Four and he’s really ashamed, he says something like, “Bridge Four was a test and I failed it”, and I’ve felt that way about a lot of things in my life, so I could relate and I wanted him to recover from that.

The scene in OB when he saves Khen and Sah struck me on my reread, because it felt like one of the most morally righteous actions in the entire series. But it’s odd. The action itself—saving two people from cruel beatings, letting them sit and heal in the sledge and carrying them to Alethkar—was admirable. It echoed Kaladin and Bridge Four in the best/saddest way. Yet Moash’s reasoning was—the Fused deserve to rule instead of the lighteyes because they’re fair masters; so I have to stop them from being cruel.

This is somewhat twisted logic. Nonetheless I sympathize with his pessimistic line of thinking. He has internalized that there will always be a ruling class in society, but he understandably resents the lighteyes for personal reasons, and so why not pick the Fused? It’s mentioned in RoW by others (Navani, maybe?) that the Fused are less harsh to the towns they conquer than the Alethi. If you have two imperfect choices, well. why not pick the somewhat better one and do what you can to make it more just. Kaladin kinda does the same when he picks Dalinar over Sadeas. (Then Syl spends the entirety of Words of Radiance going “not all lighteyes” when Dalinar is mentioned...)

By Rhythm of War, Moash seems so void of emotion [except on matters of Kaladin] that he barely ruminates on issues of fairness, society, etc. He tells Navani that the Kholins can rot for the Roshone affair, but I don’t remember him thinking about things like that in his internal monologue. So it felt underwhelming to me. And I do want characters discussing the caste system and why it sucks. But our three mouthpieces for this seem to be: Moash (widely disliked by fandom), Kaladin (who was rebuffed by Syl and Shallan in WoR for complaining about lighteyes), and Lift (is Lift). (I love Lift, but.)

I get the sense that BSanderson is treating the enslavement of the parshmen as the more serious oppression, and considering the mental & spiritual extent of the singers’ trauma, I agree. The cruelty of their situation takes my breath away, and it hurts my heart that they got their freedom back only to be chained to another set of masters (#TeamListener btw). But like....if Jasnah is abolishing slavery can she do something about the castes. Idk. I don’t want it to be only Moash and Kaladin being bitter, yknow?

Anyway my conclusion is: Moash was in love with Kaladin but in between OB and RoW it turned into a very fucked up idolization. It was heinous of him to suicide bait Kaladin. I hope Toadium has no interest in him and Moash has to deal with emotions once again. Leshwi respects (?) him, the two of them should talk about their feelings or something.

i mean ok obviously this list could be entirely moash things, but i’ll limit it to one moash thing, the most important one

1) moash is gay

2) dalinar receives harsher condemnation for his crimes

3) kaladin gets his brown eyes back

4) more women who aren’t strictly feminine, more women in general

5) kaladin and tarah have a reunion where they clear the air and realize they have no romantic feelings for each other anymore :)
