I could jump for joy knowing that the week is almost over! But I think I'll Wall Walk instead 😉 Wall walks are useful for a number of reasons- they're a great progression for anyone who can't get into their backbend from standing. They're also great drills for getting a deeper backbend. . I want to actively work on getting a deeper backbend over the next year hence why I'm doing this drill. To do it, you stand a little over an arm's width away from the wall (Unless you're incredibly flexible with a deep arch, in which case, move closer to the wall). Arch back, put both hands on the wall, and walk your way down. I try to keep my arms as straight as possible. In doing so, you'll get a deeper stretch/arch. Once down, you can see my stomach move up and down as I'm breathing b/c it was a wonderful pain. You may not be able to tell, but I felt the wall walk in my shoulders which is where I tend to be tightest. It was both a great and tragic feeling, breathing was the only thing maintaining my sanity. . I'm also trying to work on turning my feet parallel. I don't have particularly flexible hips, knees, or ankles by gymnastics/yoga standards so towards the end, you'll see me trying to turn my feet parallel. College is coming? Breathe, Baby, Breathe

So, I took my three 18-year-old boys to Target yesterday to commence Operation Freshman College Dorm Room…décor and laundry soap I suspect will never be used. How did I ever think that being armed with a supply checklist and a fairly good mood would be a recipe for success in this endeavor? Twenty minutes in and those boys were all in different parts of the store, wandering dazed and disorderly, abandoning carts in random aisles, pawing listlessly at items on the shelves…not a single check-off on the check list.

Oh, I am so focused, so calm, so present (I told myself), I can do this. Certainly my mamasanas will kick in and all will be well. I corralled everyone in the deodorant aisle and started fresh. I then watched three young men use up about thirty minutes of my life getting high on Old Spice. Smelling every brand, picking up and putting down, musing about the benefits of regular or extra strength. I stood “serenely” at the end of the aisle and had a cheerful conversation with a fellow mom. How zen am I? I rock! (I told myself.)  We moved on to oral hygiene and shaving supplies. The young man who has shaved three times in his life contemplated shaving gels. I suggested a shower caddy for the accumulating toiletries. Those will never be used either. And then I noticed that three of everything was going into the carts. What the hell?? It was explained to me that they all wanted to load up for the entire school year. More efficient, they said. I heard that they would be shampooing with bar soap before they would spend their own cash on this stuff.

Desk lamps, extension cords, fuzzy comforters, bath towels…more dilemmas: who knew that boys cared what color their bath towels are? I began to fray. My focus fuzzied, my balance bobbled and my calm collapsed.  The checklist was largely unchecked and smoldering in my fist when I cried “To the check out! Now!” Which is where I ran into yet another mom I know and I saw myself through her eyes. I was appalling. I had forgotten to breathe and was practically hyperventilating as I swiped my card. One of the kids grabbed my car keys and dashed for the car before we were halfway through the line. Go ahead, save yourself, honey!

At the car we crammed everything in the trunk. The boys got in and fastened themselves for the bumpy ride ahead. I got in and put my hands on the wheel. Breathed. In and out.  Called upon the tools I know that keep the crazies away. Then I turned to the three cowering faces and said “who wants lunch?”

And one of them actually said: “I do! I love you, Mom.”

Wow! I am certainly a gifted mother with incredible flexibility (I told myself).

While taking pics of some of the rides, I spot a tank. Thinking it was empty and possibly used to hold fish I step closer and spot a Red Boa. I didn't know that it was a Red Boa at the time, just a large snake. I instantly thought of my niece who is enamored by snakes and we just had a whole moment talking about her fascination with 🐍 Me? They don’t move me one way or the other unlesssss, I see one loose and free and I am moved to move🏃🏾‍♀️. Snakes are not my thing but, I'm fascinated by people who are passionate about things of which I have no interest.
