I got a job as a bookseller!!!

#nat talks #listen. it's not the dream bc I've already worked in a bookstore and it's actually terrible at times #but I only really worked during holidays and people were just so rude #BUT I do have higher hopes for this location #also I tentatively know two people who work there so it will be fun! #it's a sub role and a little unclear if I'll only work during christmas and the book sale in feb or more #it depends on if the people who are on sick leave will return and when #but I can keep freelancing and apply for corporate jobs I want in the meantime #at the very least I can work during december either way and if I end up finding something else maybe I can work weekends during the booksal #so to not let them down too much #I honestly am just looking forward to getting out of the house and meeting people and working with my body more #because my mind is very fried #I have a short shift tomorrow to train #then I'll see when I'll officially start but it will probably be soon! #I've had a very busy few days so I wish I had said I could do my training shift next week #bc they gave the option of this wednesday or next #but I didn't want to turn it into a “thing” by letting too much time pass bc I might get anxious about it #but now I wish I had lmao I'm tired #also forgot I was gonna be home alone with the dog tomorrow #had been looking forward to it tbh #oh wellll #work stuff

We had a power outage for almost 30 hours and I ended up just writing letters by candle light and reading by the fire. And I will say I have changed my mind about Sharpe's Rifles now that I've finished it: I actually thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's probably one of my favorite Sharpe books. Yes, there's a Teresa shaped hole in it, but even past that I loved the character development, I love how detailed it is, the action is really good, and Vivar is more interesting, I think, than we get in the films. My favorite bit was definitely the end because it throws you for a loop and has a surprise reveal that even shocked me bc I hadn't put two and two together which I really liked- it showed off Sharpe's cleverness and, though he struggled, his ability to lead men and go above and beyond to get the job done. I honestly think I like it more than Eagle, because Sharpe's already established as a good officer in that one, having earned the respect of his men, versus Rifles where there's danger on all sides and you get to see how he earned that respect. Plus I'm a sucker for partisans so I like seeing how Sharpe interacts with his environment and around others outside of the military.

Now I'm just waiting impatiently on the local bookstore to find their copies of Havoc, Fury, and Battle, and I can continue!

Fabulosa Books is smack in the middle of the very queer Castro District in San Francisco. It was formerly a Dog Eared Books branch, and before that, A Different Light Books. 

The bookstore branch was going to close, but a 20-year employee of Dog Eared bought the store and reopened it as it is today in 2021! “We were determined to survive because a neighborhood without a bookstore is like a day without sunshine,” he said. 

Going into such a richly queer bookstore is such a genuine joy and felt really gratifying and affirming.

Also Tetcho is gonna act like my sister, and HATE books and reading. Starts complaining and moping around the second they step inside the store because “this is so boring :(” But he goes in with Jouno anyways bc he doesn’t want 2 b by himself outside.

He follows Jouno around the store like a little kid who only wants to be in the toy section. When Jouno picks up a book it’s, “can we go now pls 😞🙏” and Jouno is like, “not yet 😒” and continues walking around with a stack of books in one arm. Tetcho will offer to buy all of them 4 him if it means they get to leave. #savetetcho The only thing Tetcho likes abt bookstores is the attached cafés they sometimes have, because Jouno will buy him a snack/coffee to make the trip more tolerable. 😋

walking out of the barnes & noble with Jouno is like escaping a highly secure prison & torture chamber. very high sense of relief and freedom upon leaving because he can’t go a trip 2 the bookstore without being told to stop causing a ruckus at least once by the employees.

This bookstore has three levels. The basement is dedicated to used books, and while I love the vibe of the entire store the basement is something special

Each book holds a little bit of the emotions of its previous readers. The laughter, the heartbreak, the surprise, the anger. They hold a little bit of the love and hatred from it’s previous owners. That’s something I love about used books

Plus, there is a coffee shop right across the road AND dogs are allowed

I love weekends together so much!

We did so much and it was so nice to have a weekend like that because they never really happen. We started this car journal thing and are gonna write down everything we do together and all the adventures and stuff we plan to do etc! It’s so cute. He makes me very happy and I love him so much. I am very lucky! I love him dearly and he’s the best thing that has happened to me.

#I went to his show Thursday and fucked up my hand so bad #got bruised to shit but it was fun and great to see him play #Hung out with his friends gf there and made plans to hang out with her eventually which is so nice and cute #then we went to a bunch of home stores looking for shit but also went to pet smart and looked at the animals #we went to bookstore and he got a book #so we could read together #we went to this cute cafe then also visit his parent he started teaching me drums #also hung out with my little brother and his niece who I love #went to his parents for dinner today #the other day we went to his friends place to let his dog out and I fell in love with his sick little cat kuro #we then went with his friend and his gf to walk their dog at the park and hang out at their place #all very nice and just fulfilling things #these were differ friends then the one mentioned before #made me feel like a real person lol #it’s really nice to be doing things and living life #especially around such good people #life has been unbelievably great it’s scary
