Book Review The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes Thanks to @librofm for my copy of the book! Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think the book was good, maybe it affects on the method you used to consume it. I imagine I would have been bored if I read it but as I listened to it, it was interesting enough to keep me listening. At first, when I saw this available on Libro FM I checked the ratings and was disappointed as it is in the low 3 stars but I read the blurb and I thought I'd give it a try. It did not disappoint. To me, it built the tension nicely before what really happened to Maya's bestfriend comes to light. It shows Maya's struggles as an effect of what happened. Chakraborty Kingdom of Copper is probably one of my favorite reads this year. The storytelling is so much better from the first book, primarily because the world has been laid out. While the first book was world-building and characterization, this second book is full of power play, politics, and questions on morality. It sometimes reminded me of Game of Thrones. There is also a character who is painted to be the savior but I only see them as a tyrant in the making. When I finished this book, I kept thinking what rating to give and if there is anything I didn’t like to make me deduct points. So, I just finished reading It starts with us, and yes! I'm back again after my last update book update with It Ends With Us. When I first heard that a sequel of It Ends With Us would be released, as much as I loved the first book, I didn't think that a second book was still necessary. My first thought was it was better off with the first book only. But, hey! At least we got a glimpse of Atlas and Lili's life for a short time. I would recommend this book to those who want more of Atlas and Lily but for me? I'm better off with the first book. Okay, a little story time...

When I was in my 4th year in high school, my English teacher used to move my chair in front of the class whenever we have a quiz about Greek myth. I remember my face was super close to the black board and no one can sit beside me. Why? Not to brag but it was because I knew the answers to all her Greek myth questions during discussion and I let my seatmates copy some of my answers during our 1st and 2nd quizzes.

And you might wonder how I knew a lot about Greek myth even back then... The truth is I already studied it when I was in the 5th grade AND it was my favorite subject. 😉

So yeah, I studied it twice in school. Fell in love with it the first time I read about it and never got over it since. Hence when I finally had the money, I bought my 2nd paperback (I lost my 1st one cos my family moved a lot) then the illustrated edition when it came out. 😊

After being shot in the head, then in his back, I was left fatherless at 5 years old. Killed by a bartender of all people. The dickhead told the cops that he shot'em because he thought my old man was gonna rob'em.

The faggot police new the reputation and extensive record of armed robberies of my father. I heard the prick spent all of three days in jail.

I will keep his abuse of my mother brief. Only to say I witnessed the brutality and physical scars that a man can inflict on a female. But I do not hate him. Although he was not there for her or us kids, I love my father.

Book 1 of 2023 Layla by Colleen Hoover Book Review Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ OMG this book is out of this world! It’s definitely a whole spectrum of emotions for me as a reader: happiness, sadness, disgust, fear, relief. I love how it was written, how it evokes emotion. **spoiler alert: during the conflict (which I believe was the longest conflict I’ve read) I felt disgusted by what Leeds was doing, using someone’s body to communicate with an entirely different entity but it all makes sense in the end.** This isn’t the first book I opened for the year but this is the first one I’ve finished and I read it in less than a day. It definitely is going to my favourites this year. I chose to work from home today so I can spend more hours to read and finish it. This is definitely going to my favorites and book recs 😍 I immediately ordered my physical copy so I could transfer my annotations!!!
