REVIEW
A Shot of Gin by Phoebe Wagner
Well-written, fast-paced, intriguing paranormal urban fantasy that had me wondering what would happen next.
What I liked:
* Juniper “Gin”: twenty-two, works in a casino run by a vampire, half-human and half-other, magical, strong, has powers that keep her somewhat safe from most paranormals, seems to have a chip on her shoulder, has potential if there is a series
* Franklin: human, Colton’s right-hand-man, wise, knowledgeable, keeps the casino running smoothly
*  Colton: vampire, black cowboy two hundred years, ago, manages the casino, has an unusual relationship with Gin
* The supporting characters: Winston, Leia, Kia, Bobbi, Nash – all played a part that was important
* That the vampires were the way I would imagine them to be…rather untrustworthy, bloodthirsty, and difficult – wondering about Clarisse
* That there was one main bad guy that was at least temporarily dealt with but there definitely feels like there is more to the story
* Being on the fence regarding how to feel about some of the characters but then…they are vampires so can one ever trust and have them as friends?
* The plot, pacing, setting and writing
* Learning that I don’t really like zombies in a story
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The manipulation of and lies of omission that Gin became aware of
* Maybe wanting more backstory and a bigger indication of what might come next
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? I think so, maybe?
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC – This is my honest review.

BLURB
Juniper “Gin” Cain is pretty sure she’s mostly human. Working security for the vampire-owned All Saints Casino, Gin’s got an edge on the others: vampires can’t drink her blood, making her perfect for the job. But when a radiated zombie staggers into the casino's club, she’s forced to expose the inhuman traits she’s kept hidden. Now, the powerful Vegas vampires want a piece of her. Her fanged boss Colton—a cowboy turned during the Nevada silver rush—helps her escape into the high desert, but the Vegas vampires and radiated zombies pursue relentlessly, eventually closing in. Cornered and at risk of kidnapping, she accidentally triggers a nuclear explosion in a frantic bid for survival. Reckoning with the fallout, Gin realizes that if she wants to save the casino and the people she calls family, she must give up the idea of being human and uncover the origins of her mysterious blood traits—all while trying to keep her home at the Saints Casino, and the rest of Reno, from getting nuked.

Risk - To His Heart And Life
Kenzie Macallan, a new writer and a new read on my list. Heading into her Deep 8 series way down the list to her fourth book “Risk”, with Campbell Creighton laying down his life for his Quinn Donovan.  With AI being the hot topic of the current world, Kenzie weaves an intriguing story around this very concept, and if we are talking about AI, then politics, conspiracies, power, money and betrayal…

Book Blurb: A dark, feminist retelling of The Children of Lir by the author of the multi-award-winning Tangleweed and Brine‘No-one else writes like Deirdre Sullivan. She is lyrical, poetic and thoroughly intoxicating.’ Juno Dawson, author of Wonderland‘Unsettling, haunting, and darkly lyrical, Savage Her Reply is a beautiful thing.’ Louise O’Neill, author of After The SilenceA retelling of the favourite Irish fairytale The Children of Lir. Aífe marries Lir, a chieftain with four children by his previous wife. Jealous of his affection for his children, the witch Aífe turns them into swans for 900 years.Retold through the voice of Aífe, Savage Her Reply is unsettling and dark, feminist and fierce, yet nuanced in its exploration of the guilt of a complex character.A dark & witchy feminist retelling from the author of Tangleweed and Brine
Review:
A lyrical retelling of the Irish legend of The Children if Lir. The story deals with desire, the desires that a woman has the the brutality that comes when there are unmet desires. The story follows Aife, the middle sister  of a family who is then traded in place of her dead sister to the husband. She has to take care of her older sister’s children. The marriage isn’t what she had imagined or wanted. Her husband treats her like a nuisance and in turn her anger and resentment are lashed out onto his children. She turns the four children into swans for 900 years and her own punishment for doing so is being unable to connect to anyone from her past life. She slowly begins to developed an affection towards the swans but this is also a story about men who toy with women and  the bonds of sisterhood and children who can forgive. This is a story about a woman who has made a mistake but in turn is trying to fix them and to make things right. The illustrations in the story were stunning and the forgiveness was a beautiful aspect of the story.

#TuesdayBookBlog Anne Frank on Tour and Other Stories by George Thomas Clark (@PonchoZeus)
Hi, all: I bring you one of the books I have picked up on NetGalley through BooksGoSocial, an option that many independent authors use to get featured there, and I try to check what books they have on offer. The title of this one was what got me, and although there are some very brief stories (more vignettes than fully-formed stories), there are some that are true gems. Anne Frank on Tour and…

Fractured Lives by Charlotte Roddy @CRoddy_Author  #FracturedLives #NetGalley #BooksGoSocial
My Thoughts Fractured Lives is another solid thriller that left me wanting more books from this author. I was completely engrossed in the story, unable to put the book down. The characters were well-developed, each with their own unique personality and motivations that kept me guessing until the very end. The author expertly weaved together a complex plot, full of suspense and unexpected twists…

book review: the home share
Tumblr media
I am a huge fan of romcom, specially of there enemies to lovers trope and this book was promising so much, but did not fulfils my expectation.
As a sum up, ther story is focus on Evie, an orphan girl who works as a driver in a tourist company in Dublin, and Jack, who's a workaholic and who has no relationship with his grandmother. Evie, after she was asked to move out from her rental house with her best friends, is in desperate need of a new home, and her her petsitter, and old neighbour, offers her to move in with her. Then Jack c0mes to the picture by moving in with both of them in order to keep and eyes on Evie.
That sounds perfect and promising, as I said before, but the plot twist was never there. Thew writing was so fast and easy that I have no idea how I get to the 50% of the books in two hours (I am a slower reader), but while I was reading, many things came to my mind. How and when did the attraction between Jack and Eviestarted? There was a moment that they barely talk and see each other, and the next chapter they are faking a relationship for Jack and five minutes later they are in love.
What do we know about Jack beside that he loves his job, does not have a good relationship with his mother, and barely talked to his grandmother until he went to Dublin? or about Evie beside that ayer mother died a few years ago and that her best friends has a fiancé? I think we know more about Eleanore and her life that about the two main characters.
Im not saying that it was not a good book, it was, and Jack is a sweetheart, and I wanted to yelled at Evie to many times, so that's giood, it means that the book did move my feelings, made me feel things, but I would love to read more about each character, know more about the interaction in the house between them and how they did fell for each other.
And to conclude I want to thanks NetGallery, BooksGoSocial and Sally Clements for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review!

Echo of the Evercry - E.J. Dawson
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book. It has been my first encounter with this author. I was blown away!
"We sometimes find ourselves in situations outside of our control, but it isn't the end, or what defines us"
I felt an instant connection to this book after reading the dedication. I believe it will grasp many young women's attention.
Dedication:
"To every girl who felt like she never belonged, and every woman who wore a mask to cope. I see you."
It appears, to me, that this might only be a standalone novel, but I would be so glad to read more novels following on this one. After finishing this book, I felt warm and happy. It was such a pleasant experience. I wouldn't change anything about it. It is perfectly magnificent!
Content warning: child abuse - This warning had me approach this book with caution and I had my guard up. It wasn't as bad as what I was expecting, though, which was a relief. Being a sensitive person, I didn't enjoy one part of the book where horses were harmed, even though it was part of the "reality" in the book. There is also a possible sexual abuse trigger... I apologize if that is a plot spoiler, but I feel readers need to be thoroughly warned. I must also add that I found the deaths to be edging on graphic. But that might just have been my sensitivity. Saying that, I still wouldn't want to change any part of this book! It is wonderful as it is.
Larissa, the main character, was so relatable and likable to me that I quickly became invested in her journey. It made the pleasure of reading so much more enjoyable because I felt as if I was part of the story.
This was such a beautiful story and I even became teary-eyed at the end of the acknowledgements: "And to every girl, teenager, and woman who felt like she didn’t belong, who wore a mask to get through the day, who was left feeling alone. You aren’t. There are so many of us. Reach out, and we will reach back to you."
I really enjoyed the imagery and attention to detail throughout the pages; the descriptions used by the author. I just couldn't stop reading! I took every chance I could find in my day to read a bit more. I was hooked!
There was great character development and interesting twists and turns that always kept me on my toes; something was always happening. I was taken by surprise a few times and it was so much fun!
This book is comforting and wholesome.
Thank you, again.

REVIEW
Murder at the Seven Dials by Cara Devlin
Bow Street Duchess #1
Excellent introduction to a new series. Couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for book two.
 What I liked;
* Audrey: Duchess of Fournier, married to her childhood friend and keeps his secret as he keeps hers, extrasensory perception of psychometry, has spent time in an asylum due to her paranormal ability, seeks to prove her husband is not guilty of the murder he was arrested for, admirable, strong, intelligent, intriguing
* Huge Marsden: principal Bow Street officer, nanny’s son, Viscount’s by-blow, scandal in his past, good friend of Dr. Thornton, well educated and eloquent, willing to admit mistakes, protective, intelligent, accepting, intriguing
* The respect, friendship, and commitment Audrey and Philip have within their marriage – it has saved them both from a difficult alternative future
* Sir: young lad, poor, enterprising, nose to the ground, works off and on for Marsden
* The writing, plot, pacing, character development, potential of the story
* That it reminded me of some favorite historical mysteries I have read in the past
* The way the real murderer is ultimately found and dealt with
* The intricacies of the relationships that may develop that will involve Audrey, Philip, Hugh, and others
* Reading a new-to-me author I hope will become a favorite
 What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how difficult it would have been to live in this era
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC – This is my honest review.

      BLURB
A murdered opera singer. A duke drenched in her blood. For Bow Street Officer Hugh Marsden, the brutal killing is a straightforward case. Ever since his exile from polite society, the chance to arrest a high and mighty peer of the realm has never presented itself. Hugh won’t snub the opportunity now. But Audrey Sinclair, the Duchess of Fournier, is certain her husband is wrongly accused, and she’s determined to prove it to the arrogant Bow Street officer, even if she must employ her most peculiar ability—or perhaps curse—to guide her investigation. After all, a duchess can do as she pleases. Exasperated with the meddling duchess, Hugh is convinced she is protecting her own secrets, and the duke’s. But when Audrey’s discoveries persuade him to believe the true killer is still at large, he has no choice but to join her in the hunt—if only to keep her from becoming the next victim.

Got copy from book clubbies. Loved the science parts, but overall not as good as other STEM romances where the characters had a bit more depth. Entertaining enough to merit 4 stars though.

How to use research to build an authentic story – interview with @Tomokarres at #booksgosocial
How do you use research to build a plot? If you’re writing beyond your own personal experience – and most of us are – what details make a difference? How can you use your actual experience as a starting point? What are the absolutes to cover if you’re writing historical fiction, or fiction set in a special world? Today I’m at BooksGoSocial, talking about this to Tom Burkhalter. He writes World…
