a paperback book isnt alive until you break its spine btw like a long slumbering animal being carefully roused it actually needs you to do that like when you click your knuckles. for your paperback book the breaking of its spine is like the first stretch against your pillow in the morning

Am I ready for all the horrible takes from strangers on the internet that don’t understand the point of the story and the complexities of the characters??

Oh ooh post the draft about moral purity and authenticity bestie
i didn't finish it so never posted but i'm pretty sure i was going to say: every public figure that has supported something 'good' ends up called problematic a short time later. if they were deemed problematic first, the 'good' never seems to make up for it. this was basically the entire premise of "my fave is problematic" (list all of the bad things a celebrity has said) and is now the basis of an entire online generation's moral code/belief system. it's extremely damaging to view people or art in this way.

talked to a friend about wings of fire recently and it fucking. awoke something in me and i started furiously drawing dragons....... tried to redesign icewings but ehhhhh idk mine lacks something, it looks boring:/ oh well! anyways. i LOVEEEEE mudwings i love these giant dirt colored huge fucks and their tightly knit sibling bonds<333333333 their faces are SUPER hard to draw but i also love how they look...... giant bricks..
might draw wof dragons more soon tbh, its so fun!! i am NOT caught up on the newer books tho, the latest book i read was the 'peril fucks around and meets her weird shitty dad' one lol (peril ily<33)

i’m so sorry but if you’re in the ‘fantasy media is escapism I don’t want to think about any REAL world problems‘ crowd then why are you posting about the witcher. there are few fantasy sagas that are quite so explicit and intentional as the Witcher when mirroring its characters, world, and conflict around real people, politics, and everyday struggles. also that’s why it’s GOOD

Pick a Picture Reading | PAC
Tumblr media
Pick a picture 1 - 2 - 3 Hello, sweethearts. It's an unusual reading. I picked quotes for each pile that will give you insights or enlighten you.
Pile 1
“Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways.”
— Sigmund Freud
“Who told you that there is no true, faithful, eternal love in this world! May the liar’s vile tongue be cut out!”
— Mikhail Bulgakov, The Master and Margarita
“Revenge may be wicked, but it’s natural.”
― William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair
“Evil is just what is positive; it makes its own existence felt.”
— Arthur Schopenhauer, On the Sufferings of the World
“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth.”
— F. Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment
”The pleasure lies not in discovering truth, but in searching for it.”
― Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
“Who are you then?”
“I am part of that power which eternally wills evil and eternally works good.”
— Goethe, Faust
Pile 2
"In order to know the light, we must first experience the darkness."
— C.G. Jung “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.” ― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
“A woman may possess the wisdom and chastity of Minerva, and we give no heed to her, if she has a plain face. What folly will not a pair of bright eyes make pardonable? What dullness may not red lips are sweet accents render pleasant? And so, with their usual sense of justice, ladies argue that because a woman is handsome, therefore she is a fool. O ladies, ladies! there are some of you who are neither handsome nor wise.”
― William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair
“They spoil every romance by trying to make it last for ever.”
— Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
“Here's my advice to you: don't marry until you can tell yourself that you've done all you could, and until you've stopped loving the women you've chosen, until you see her clearly, otherwise you'll be cruelly and irremediably mistaken. Marry when you're old and good for nothing...Otherwise all that's good and lofty in you will be lost.”
— Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"
— Leonardo da Vinci
“Don’t worry about people. People think what you want them to think.”
— Theodore Dreiser, The Financier
Pile 3
“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.”
— George Orwell, 1984
“To define is to limit.”
— Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
“Everything comes in time to him who knows how to wait.”
— Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace
“The world is a looking-glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face. Frown at it, and it will in turn look sourly upon you; laugh at it and with it, and it is a jolly kind companion; and so let all young persons take their choice.”
― William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair
“If goodness has causes, it is not goodness; if it has effects, a reward, it is not goodness either. So goodness is outside the chain of cause and effect.”
― Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
“Hardships make or break people.”
— Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind
“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; And therefore is wing'd Cupid painted blind.“
— William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream

finally read DMATMOOBIL last week - which I’d been putting off reading, saving for a rainy day, but found I could resist no longer - and, needless to say, je suis ensorcelé.
so many moments, SO MANY, are still gambolling freely about my brain like giddy transfigured borzois, so I picked up my dusty old apple pencil for the first time in months (was having a tortured artist break, to do tortured artist things - spent approximately 87% of that time reading dramione fanfiction, but in a rather tortured and artistic way I expect), and scribbled out this little moment from the rose garden. it has since launched me into a full-scale fan art resurgence, hence the foundation of this blog. this was the first piece I created!
not at all happy with any of of the full-colour versions (I made at least three) but have included the least offensive. will revisit the colours at a later date and, if I then manage to produce a version that sparks joy and does not spark sick, perhaps I’ll share again!

the book trend that needs to be left in the dust for the new year is greek mythology retellings. i am so sick and tired of "retellings" of greek (or roman, but mainly greek) mythology from authors that clearly have a very surface level pop cultural understanding of the myth(s) they're adapting and the culture(s) they're depicting. especially the many that market themselves as "feminist retellings" where the "feminism" is basically just "men bad sometimes", and especially when they're "feminist retellings" that take some of the few mythological women who get happy endings and take it away from them for the sake of saying "men bad sometimes". it's all so shallow and they exploded this year and i'm sick of it.

Girl, help, the book authors are trying too hard to be "hip" with the fleeting "teen lingo" and trends again, immediately dating their works before they're even released
