a paperback book isnt alive until you break its spine btw like a long slumbering animal being carefully roused it actually needs you to do that like when you click your knuckles. for your paperback book the breaking of its spine is like the first stretch against your pillow in the morning

#have seen people online before say they dont open their paperback books past 45 degree angles so as not to break the spine which is crazy to #me r u afraid someones going to see your books and think they look like youve read them. you are upsetting the book when you dont #break its spine to read all its contents and not even do it that one favour to make the book more comfy youre making it so so sad #also make peace with a book with a broken spine or a bit of wear and tear so that you can start buying books secondhand instead of #off amazon maybe idk #reading tag

i didn't finish it so never posted but i'm pretty sure i was going to say: every public figure that has supported something 'good' ends up called problematic a short time later. if they were deemed problematic first, the 'good' never seems to make up for it. this was basically the entire premise of "my fave is problematic" (list all of the bad things a celebrity has said) and is now the basis of an entire online generation's moral code/belief system. it's extremely damaging to view people or art in this way.

finally read DMATMOOBIL last week - which I’d been putting off reading, saving for a rainy day, but found I could resist no longer - and, needless to say, je suis ensorcelé.

so many moments, SO MANY, are still gambolling freely about my brain like giddy transfigured borzois, so I picked up my dusty old apple pencil for the first time in months (was having a tortured artist break, to do tortured artist things - spent approximately 87% of that time reading dramione fanfiction, but in a rather tortured and artistic way I expect), and scribbled out this little moment from the rose garden. it has since launched me into a full-scale fan art resurgence, hence the foundation of this blog. this was the first piece I created!

not at all happy with any of of the full-colour versions (I made at least three) but have included the least offensive. will revisit the colours at a later date and, if I then manage to produce a version that sparks joy and does not spark sick, perhaps I’ll share again!

the book trend that needs to be left in the dust for the new year is greek mythology retellings. i am so sick and tired of "retellings" of greek (or roman, but mainly greek) mythology from authors that clearly have a very surface level pop cultural understanding of the myth(s) they're adapting and the culture(s) they're depicting. especially the many that market themselves as "feminist retellings" where the "feminism" is basically just "men bad sometimes", and especially when they're "feminist retellings" that take some of the few mythological women who get happy endings and take it away from them for the sake of saying "men bad sometimes". it's all so shallow and they exploded this year and i'm sick of it.

#eye twitching seeing certain modern slang in for real published books unironically #tiktokian slang that is out of date within weeks #it's a pet peeve of mine but so is modern books mentioning tiktok or stuff at all esp. when not relevant in general #god it pulls you out of the illusion #turns it into this very set in stone time frame rather than letting it just be or resonate on its own which is fine sometimes if natural #you can't avoid some mentions of some things when setting it today but in these cases it's so forced #hello fellow kidz.jpeg vibe in book form #books #this isn't even specific to ya books i've seen it in adult books as well #booklr #petty as i am i once stopped reading a first chapter excerpt for mentioning spotify by name on page 1 i'm sorry #this other book though oh they've used online phrases and boomer insult 3 times and brought up tiktok twice it's on thin f-ing ice #ignore me i'm petty but don't ignore me because this is a legit problem in the media industry #don't even get me started on text speak in the dialogue or texting sections yeah #it's not quite as bad if it's some fake variation of an app or just generic about being online but mentioning by name oh i'm gonna explode #most times anyway #i have yet to see it handled well #this was about slang though so tangent but !! gaah
