I'm trying to finish Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by the end of today (= the end of February) and just arrived at this passage

This is wrong.

The feeling of being alone (= allein) even when you're with other people is Einsamkeit (= loneliness, einsam = lonely)

Zweisamkeit is when two people are spending time together, often in harmony and sometimes even romance, without being disturbed by other people.

As you might notice:

einsamkeit (1-sam-keit) -> being lonely

vs.

zweisamkeit (2-sam-keit) -> being with one other person

Exactly one week ago, I visited France for a day. I'm extremely bad at French, even though I've been learning it in school for 4 years by now. But when I saw this comic, I immediately fell in love with it and I just HAD to buy it.

So here's a little review of the graphic novel so far!

The art style is simple, yet gorgeous and really effective at expressing what's going on. And the colors are extremely vibrant, working together to create a wonderful harmony. Page one alone is a good example for that.

The story is, without spoilering too much, about a teenage girl going to a new high school, while struggling with mental health issues. Said, can be interpreted as undiagnosed DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). It shows real life issues and scenarios that people with this rare dissociative disorder can find themselves in. And it does that in a very simple and easy to understand way as well. (The fact that they used the main character's hair to be able to seperated the different alters by just looking at them helps a lot as well. Though canonically in the story they of course don't change) Even in French. But I think this comic is also available in English.

I really like to see that something like DID finally has some representation outside of movies like "Split". And I'd love to see more good representation like this comic. Because representation matters!

I can't objectively judge how accurate this representation is, though, since I'm not in a position to do so. But based of my own research, it's so far pretty realistic.

I'm about half way through it (no spoilers please!) and I'll prob review the second half when I'm done reading the comic. So far, these are my fav panels/pages.

For anyone's who's interested about learning more about DID or mental health in general:

I can highly recommend watching Sci Show Psych, Patrick Teahan LICSW and, for German speakers, psychologeek. All of which can be found on YouTube and partly even other social medias.

And of course, reading scientific papers (using Google's filter option) about those topics or even the DSM-5 (which can be downloaded for free on the internet) can never hurt. Just make sure to use good and reliable source. And always be a bit sceptic when reading things on the internet.

Edit/Update (though I might include this since this post is still getting likes, etc): The second volume of Elles seems to be, from what I've heard, pretty misinformative about DID. For more on this, see this ask I answered.

How many of Agrippa's children had children of their own? And did their children had children? And did their children have children? And did their children. . .

Well, now you got me curious!

The latest confirmed descendant of Marcus Agrippa I found was Marcus Annius Flavius Libo, consul of 204. So Agrippa's line survived at least 200 years after his death. They seem to have done well for themselves: Libo's great-grandmother was the wife of Emperor Domitian, and they were related by marriage to Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius.

The exact line of descent goes: Agrippa --> Julia the Younger --> Aemilia Lepida --> Junia Lepida --> Cassia Longina --> Domitia Longina --> L. Fundanius Lamia Aelianus --> Fundania --> M. Annius Libo (cos. 161) --> M. Annius Flavius Libo (cos. 204).

Then the trail disappears. That's not to say they died out, just that Libo's kids aren't recorded. And that's just looking at one branch of the family. Agrippa had nine children and at least eighteen grandchildren, so I think there's pretty good odds some of their descendants are still with us. Especially if you include adopted children, as the Romans would.

Das Buch Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow von Gabrielle Zevin

2h und 21min vor Mitternacht und dem Ende des Februar habe ich das Buch fertiggelesen.

Ich hatte heute vormittag eine Passage mit einem falschen deutschen Wort hier geteilt und wollte jetzt noch mehr zu dem Buch sagen.

Ich fand es: okay.

Es gab Kapitel, die ich extrem schön fand und Charaktere, die ich sehr gern mochte.

Aber es gab auch viele Kapitel, die mich genervt haben, weil die Protagonisten sich scheiße verhalten haben.

Dazu der deutsch-Fehler, den man spätestens beim Lektorat hätte finden müssen.

Außerdem gibt es starke Plagiarismus-vorwürfe (accusations of plagiarism) wegen einem der Spiele, die in dem Buch beschrieben wurden. Das fühlt sich nicht gut an.

Overall: Eine schöne, wenn auch teils nervige Geschichte. Aber allein für Charakter "Marx" vielleicht lesenswert (worth reading).

I also found those GORGEOUS STUNNING BEAUTIFUL 20th anniversary editions and I must admit I am trying very hard to not spend an obscene amount of money on a copy.

Hello, sorry to bother you. I’m an avid fanfic reader and i am bilingual. I’m wondering how fanfic writers feel about translations of their work (with permission obviously). Is it flattering? Is it something that you would want so more people can read your work? Or is it more neutral? Obviously you can’t speak for all writers, but i’m curious about your opinion and what you know of other’s opinions

I think, generally speaking, most writers including myself are okay with translations of their work as long as you ask permission first and give credit to the original author. They may also not want their work posted to another site, so as long as the translation is posted on the same site as the original work, you're good then too. To offer to translate something is normally seen as the highest compliment, as the idea someone loved their work so much they wanted to share it with more people - presumably in their native language - is a HUGE compliment. Of course, every writer has their own preferences, so may not like the idea for their own reasons - hence why you always need to ask permission and if they say no, respect that decision. But as long as you stick to those three unspoken rules (ask permission, give credit, don't post to another site), it's normally all good.

There's a lot of AI scraping and copying of original works to other sites happening right now, so writers can be nervous. I, myself, and several others I know, have locked down our fics on AO3 so only AO3 users can view them due to the AI shit. Just be polite and respectful to them and their fics, and you're golden. I'm sure there's plenty out there that would love to see fics translated, including myself! 👍

if you didn’t speak farsi and wanted to learn what would you start with ? i always have this issue w new writing systems, with japanese i struggled a lot & i want to learn farsi but it’s so hard to figure out where to start

since u speak english farsi will be easier for you to learn than japanese will be (both indo-european languages) !! HOWEVER the writing system is..."adopted" from a semitic language (arabic) which is where the struggle might come in - the spoken language and the writing system quarrel. if i had a recommend a few resources:

Farsi (Persian) for Beginners: Mastering Conversational Farsi (textbook)

Persian For Beginners - A Complete Course (website with link to videos, books, additional resources)

Basic Persian: A Grammar and Workbook (Grammar Workbooks) (textbook - this is a Routledge book so it should be really really good, but unfortunately I couldn't find a free version of it. I think it is the best book you could get though, so potentially worth it.)
