How do I call a database function using SQLAlchemy in Flask?

I want to call a function that I created in my PostgreSQL database. I've looked at the official SQLAlchemy documentation as well as several questions here on SO, but nobody seems to explain how to set up the function in SQLAlchemy.

I did find this question, but am unsure how to compile the function as the answer suggests. Where does that code go? I get errors when I try to put this in both my view and model scripts.

As per the community's requests and requirements, here are all the details I left out:

I have a table called books whose columns are arranged with information regarding the general book (title, author(s), publication date...).

I then have many tables all of the same kind whose columns contain information regarding all the chapters in each book (chapter name, length, short summary...). It is absolutely necessary for each book to have its own table. I have played around with one large table of all the chapters, and found it ill suited to my needs, not too mention extremely unwieldy.

My function that I'm asking about queries the table of books for an individual book's name, and casts the book's name to a regclass. It then queries the regclass object for all its data, returns all the rows as a table like the individual book tables, and exits. Here's the raw code:

This function has been tested several times in both the command line and pgAdmin. It works as expected.

My intention is to have a view in my Flask app whose route is @app.route('/book/<string:bookName>') and calls the above function before rendering the template. The exact view is as follows:

This is my question: how do I set up my app in such a way that SQLAlchemy knows about and can call the function I have in my database? I am open to other suggestions of achieving the same result as well.

P.S. I only omitted this information with the intention of keeping my question as abstract as possible, not knowing that the rules of the forum dictate a requirement for a very specific question. Please forgive me my lack of knowledge.

Allen bookman: Lavi would be like 'so you're Gramps Jr or Gramps 2.0?" Then Allen would smack him. I think Lavi, depending on his state of mind, would be conflicted. Before he would marvel at Allen's matyr nature. Now he would be watching Allen having willingly go through such suffering and loss for a friend. It'd make him angry at Nea for accepting he was worth more then Allen. Upset Allen could leave when he was such a accomplished bookman, the things Lavi could have learned from him. -

2 even more mystified by how Allen's too good for humanity. Maybe Lavi would find strength in how determined Allen is to keep going - which would encourage him to keep going too for his own goals. Probably more protective, physically and emotionally over Allen. The bookman thing might cause some friction, but it might bring them closer too since they need a kindred spirit to trust. The test might be when other booknam get involved. Allen won't hold Lavi's distance against him, but Lavi might. =(

Allen would completely marvel even more at the kind of person Allen is, that even at the most “selfish” a Bookman should have been a situation in which Lavi can relate, Allen still decided to be selfless. I think this is something in general too like - the moment Lavi saw the Akuma’s souls Allen saw all the time he realized that Allen’s gentleness wasn’t due to naivety of wanting to save everything but because he knew just as much of the horrors that had Lavi turn his back on humanity and yet he turned it into kindness. To have it pushed to the extreme of Allen being in the same situation as he was and picking his friend above himself and his duty would puzzle Lavi and put it all back in perspective.

But Yeah I see him even more resent Nea for malking all of those happened considering how much it took out of Allen, and that now he would also be aware of the bright future Allen could have had and the time they could have shared for ever ago. Hell even like... the kind of exemple Allen could have been instead of Senior for instance.

But yeah I can see Lavi find strength into Allen rn. Considering now Allen had almost gotten his mind lost to a Noah while Lavi was tortured probably to the point of leaving mental scars, I could see Allen’s strength in carrying on to be inspiring for Lavi, and even more so worth protecting. Even if he was already really protective as it goes.

I think the friction about the Bookman stuff could bring specifically Lavi to be more honest about how he relates to his duty and Allen to understand the level of masks Lavi had been wearing all that time. I think it would be necessary, whenever it’s by themselves or by an external force, that they acknowledge it on how it relates to their sense of identity.  And you’re right I do see Allen accept the way Lavi might behave but I can see Lavi being completely at lost.

And it’s not mentioning the fact the Clan might enter the picture and have their own set of complains about how Allen betrayed the Clan which would put Lavi in a difficult situation about how to handle both his duty and his friendship.

It.... will be painful but i’m even more looking forward it orz

i've got no other facts but theres plenty to read out there online! i recently learned that northern goshawks are more frail than buteos and more likely to break a bone which. doesn't make sense to me since goshawks hurl themselves in dense forests and buteos are open air soaring but 🤷‍♀️
