🤍Hello my beautiful friends! How are you doing today? 🤍
❔What is your favorite genre?
I recently read this book with my book club friends I found here on Instagram! It was super good, it gave me total Coraline vibes! Coraline is one of my favourite books and it was super nice to see a new version of it here🙌🏻
and the movie Crimson peak, the ghouls she sees and that they show her around the house! and the mothers telling them to “stay away from Gallant / Crimson Peak” it was so fun to read about it! It was really good!
I gave it 4 stars because I wasn't glued to the book and that is a must for me to give a book 5 stars!

I judge books by their covers and I’m usually right. It’s how I found this book which has become one of my all time favorites. Add to it the incredible descriptive visuals and now I have a list of paintings I want to create. Goes to show you never know where creativity will spark. Now that it’s over I need something new…what are you reading? #modernmagicreads

🧣JANUARY READS🧣 Never too late? The first half of February was a little rough, so I’m slow to post my January Wrap-Up. I enjoyed every book I read last month, but some stood out more than the rest. 🏆FAVORITE BOOKS🏆 🌟The Night Travelers by Armando Lucas Correa is a beautifully written multi-generational historic novel. 🌟Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House is a magical, dark academia fantasy full of mystery. The secret societies, ghosts, and multiple twists made this one of my top reads. ✨RECOMMENDED READS✨ ⭐️Factory Girls by Michelle Gallen looks back at life in Northern Ireland during “the troubles.” ⭐️Wade in the Water by Nyani Nkrumah deftly turns the white savior trope on its head. ⭐️House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland is full of creepy gothic atmosphere. ⭐️Maame by Jessica George follows a young woman who breaks free of her family’s constant needs and begins to build a life of her own. ⭐️The Family Outing by Jessi Hempel is an intimate memoir about family secrets and overcoming trauma on the path to self-actualization. #bookreviews #bookrecommendations #topreads #bookclubreads #netgalleyreads #letstalkbooks #readersofinstagram #booknerd #readmorebooks #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4uVTyhtN0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Sitting on my couch reading Continuum by Danielle Allen for my bookclub meeting on Sunday. I’m about 54% 📖 into the book and really enjoying it. During my 2-hr drive for volleyball tournament, I will continue my listen of The Duke’s Secret Cinderella by Eva Devon, a Netgalley audiobook arc which is exquisitely narrated by Sasha Higgins. This is my first time hearing her but she nailed the voice and tone of Charlotte, the protagonist. What an auditory treat. Up next will be my goodreads “Dusty Bookshelf” recommended read. I was challenged to read Whispers and the Roars by K Webster off my TBR as a book that’s been on my shelf for over two years collecting dust. I can’t decide if I should read it or listen to it. Game time decision I guess. What’s on your weekend agenda? #bookclubreads #continuum #danielleallen #netgalleyarc #netgalleyaudiobooks #thedukessecretcinderella #evadevon #whispersandtheroars #kwebster #dustybookshelf #weekendlistening #amreadingromance #alwaysromancereading https://www.instagram.com/p/CoynJsPga9S/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Book Review: The Bachman Books: The Long Walk by Stephen King as Richard Bachman I’m only reviewing the first novel out of three included in this book. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Thoughts: Honestly, I don’t know what to say about this book. It was haunting and still I have a lot of questions unanswered. This is my first Stephen King read and I’m not sure I like it, but I know it was written well and tho it’s not my interest to read this kind of book, it still had a way to keep me reading. It gave me the Squid Game vibe and I think it would definitely pass as an episode for Black Mirror. I didn’t really like the ending, it was a cliffhanger for me. I didn’t like that it was a cliffhanger after what transpired in the book. It’s not my favorite but I can definitely say that it’s a good one. 🔖 #thebachmanbooks #stephenking #richardbachman #thelongwalk #bookclubreads #bookishcanadians #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookstagramcanada #bookstagramphilippines #bookstagramfeature #bookishcommunity #booksofinstagram #bookreview #bookreviewer #igreads #bookworld #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #readersofinstagram #bookgram #booklover #booknerd #bookcommunity #bookstagrammer #goodreads (at Calgary, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkkS7jdLVtQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What an incredible debut from Jessamine Chan with The School For Good Mothers! Although it may divide opinion and strike terror in the hearts of every devoted mother out there, I loved the dark and twisted places it decided to go to and it certainly provoked plenty of discussion amongst the members of the #bitcrackbookclub which I’m so lucky to be a member of. ⁣ ⁣ This is the story of Frida Liu who is struggling amidst the expectations of her Chinese immigrant parents, coming to terms with her husband’s infidelity and trying to look after her baby, Harriet and work at the same time. One day Frida has a bad day and the government assess whether she needs to go into an institution to learn what she needs to do to be a good mother.⁣ ⁣ Apart from the fantastic premise for a story, this book had me hooked from the very first pages. Atwood-esque, it was chilling to be placed inside a society where control over parenting and the advice on how to manage your child is so alien to what might come to a parent naturally. ⁣ ⁣ It’s hard for me not to give anything away but I hope you can understand that it’s better to go into this novel completely unprepared. The surprises it throws up are worth the wait and it certainly provoked a stronger reaction for me personally speaking than if I had known about it prior to starting. ⁣ ⁣ The School For Good Mothers shines a new light on a dystopian, autocratic society. It was compelling, completely unputdownable and deliciously strange and eerie. I’ll be thinking of certain parts for some time to come and I can’t wait to read whatever this author writes next. ⁣ ⁣ Five glorious stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⁣ #bookstagram #bookworm #scottishbookstagrammer #bookclubreads #buddyreads #readingwithmybookclub #theschoolforgoodmothers #jessaminechan #dystopiannovels #debutnovels #authorstowatchoutfor #favouritebooks #fivestarreads #fivestarreviews⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CgADIpCI7qo/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🧜🏻‍♀️ BOOK CLUB MINI REVIEW 🧜🏻‍♀️😩 BREATHE AND COUNT BACK FROM TEN by @nataliasylv was the July read for the #chronicallyiconicbookclub and man, WHAT A READ! We had the absolute best discussion, and every single one of us (some who have chronic illness/pain or disabilities, and some who don't) saw something of ourselves and our experiences in it. Vero is a child of Peruvian immigrants who was born with hip dysplasia. This means she has lived with multiple surgeries and tons of pain in her life. Her parents sacrificed and struggled to bring her and her sister to America (Florida) for better healthcare and other opportunities. She loves to swim and has a dream to be in the show at Mermaid Cove near where she lives, a dream of which her parents do not approve (look closely at Vero's shadow on the cover and you'll see 🧜🏻‍♀️!). This book is all about growing up and out of the boxes into which our parents sometimes want to put us, finding our own way and speaking up with our authentic voices, exploring sexuality and first love, living as an immigrant but also an American and straddling the two worlds, AND dealing with chronic pain and disability and all that entails (the doctors visits Vero had were so very familiar to many of us in the group). I loved this book so much, and I flagged so many quotes and passages that spoke to me (you can swipe to see one of them). I cannot recommend this book highly enough -- it will absolutely make my top ten reads of the year, if not top five. I want *everyone* to pick this one up! If you do, definitely let me know your thoughts. Book Club Review…..The Blossom and the Firefly by Sherri L. Smith A song will bring them together. The war will tear them apart. 1945 Japan Taro is a talented violinist and a kamikaze pilot in the days before his first and only mission. Hana hasn't been the same since the day she was buried alive in a collapsed trench during a bomb raid. Taro is ready to die for qhis country. Hana wonders if it would have been better to die that day. That is until they meet each other. Is it possible to live an entire lifetime in eight short days? The Blossom and the Firefly was a stunning story! It's a story about two people finding love and its a sad story but also moving about life in Japan during WWII. We are always interested in books that can teach us something as well as entertain us so we loved the historical facts. A lot of the realities were hard to take at times but there's a war going on so it was expected. The story switches between Taro and Hana's perspectives so you get to see two sides of the story and what each of them dealt with and felt. Could you imagine being in Hana's shoe having to take care of the kamikaze pilots and say goodbye to them knowing that they will more than likely die? This is by no means a fast and easy read. It's emotional and the pace moves well with the story but it's not a fast pace. It was a compelling, heartbreaking and absolutely wonderful to read story! Thank you The Book Club Cookbook. Penguin Teen and Sherri L. Smith for sharing this amazing story with us! #TheBookClubCookbook #PenguimTeenBooks #SherriLSmith #TheBlossomandtheFirefly #thepageladies #bookclubread #read #books #bookclub #bookReview #wwiinovel #historicalfiction #romanceread #readstagram #bookstagrammer #booksta #bookrec #bookaholic #booksbooksbooks #greatread #igbooks #igreads #bookrecommendation https://www.instagram.com/p/CdjGf4SDaiM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 ✨WITCHY WEDNESDAY✨ The Women Could Fly, by Megan Giddings, is a creative, engaging social critique, wrapped in a modern-day fantasy. It’s the perfect read for anyone frustrated by the recent restrictions on women’s health and autonomy. Giddings depicts a vivid and terrifyingly oppressive world for women, and setting the story in our modern world significantly increases the discomfort level. In this alternate reality, unmarried women are treated with suspicion and monitored for indications of witchcraft. At age 28, single women must register with the Bureau of Witchcraft and be tested. Those unmarried at age 30 lose their jobs and other liberties. Married women, whose freedoms are determined by their husbands, don’t fare much better. The mashup of puritan ideas with the 21st century should evoke dissonance. But with the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade, these fictional laws subjugating women don’t feel far from our current reality. The plot’s main conflict occurs when Josephine, age 28, has to choose between a life of freedom, isolated on an island of witches, and the life she’s worked to build for herself. The island world Giddings creates is equally inviting and disturbing. Do the comforts of friends, family, and a job she loves outweigh the risks of a return to the larger society? I enjoyed how the author explores themes of freedom from multiple angles, including the freedom to love. If women are pressured to marry before the age of 30, are they able to find true love? Any relationship risks being hindered by resentment, even with the most generous and caring spouse. Josephine wonders if it’s love she feels or the comfort of safety? The Women Could Fly would be a great book club pick. While sexism and freedom are the main themes, the story can easily spark discussions of family, friendship, abandonment, and racism. Thank you to @amistadbooks, @harpercollins and @netgalley for access to this eARC. #booksandcoffeeinaugust22 #thewomencouldfly #megangiddings #witchywednesday #dystopianfiction #fantasyreader #fantasybooks #netgalleyreads #arcreader #bookclubreads #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookquotes #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/ChXghm3r6xs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Many thanks to @berkleyromance for free e-copy via #NetGalley 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙤-𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙗𝙮 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙝 𝙊’𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙮 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5) The No-Show by Beth O’Leary is a realistic, relatable, and utterly emotive and surprising romance that revolves around three women who were stood up on Valentine’s Day by the same man they have feelings for. The story is about friendship, love, mental health, grief, and kindness. The writing is beautiful, emotive, intriguing, and captivating with slow pace. The story is told in third person narrative from three perspectives- Jane, Siobhan, and Miranda. This is mainly character-driven story. All three protagonists are so much different from each other and have their distinct voices that never made the multiple perspectives confusing. They are most realistic, relatable, and developed. I liked Siobhan and Jane most but none deserved to be stood up by Joseph. I was surprised to see they all gave him second chance that changed their life. It was interesting to see who at last will be with Joseph or if they all will discover he has been dating three of them and kick him out of their life. Trust me when I say it’s not that simple and you’re in for a mind-blowing surprise. What I loved most apart from these female protagonists and Joseph’s mystery is their support system. Why 4.5- slow read than i expected. I highly recommend this if you like, Romance that surprises you Slow read Multiple perspectives Theme of Grief Layer of mental health and kindness Developed interesting main characters Fun secondary characters Emotional read A perfect book club read 𝙌𝙊𝙏𝘿 - What will be your reaction if you were stood up on Valentine’s Day?
