Now everyone please cross your fingers, hold your thumbs, knock on wood or whatever other good luck gesture you prefer that tonight I actually sleep. Instead of laying in bed being painfully bored and kinda tired but very awake and then don't go to uni because my brain is jello and my eyes are sandpaper.
It's just before 10pm and I am heading to bed.

Bestfriend Blurb #2 | Spencer Reid
Okay so,I didn't intend to add more parts to the bestfriend! Blurb but since anon asked...this is another blurb! it's connected with this one but you can read it in no order in particular.
Summary: Spencer and Reader are best friends, they're in love but they don't know it yet. Let's see how they're going to find out.
Words: 1k
Warnings: Go to this link!
There were very few things in your life that you were passionate about. Thankfully, your job was one of them; you had studied sociology and forensic science, then trained at the academy to investigate crime scenes. The opportunity to work in the field investigating cases for the BAU presented itself, and you couldn't refuse. You had used the camera so much to capture gruesome scenes that you began to associate it with less traumatic events; beautiful moments that occurred in the most unpleasant cases.
Once Hotchner's son dressed up as him for Halloween, and on another occasion, Henry dressed as Spencer. How could you let those memories pass without trying to immortalize them in some way?
Photography had become your grounding force, a bridge reminding you that even when you saw horrible things, there was humanity that contributed beauty and kindness. It served as your own escape method, a therapy to keep you away from madness. If a gallery wanted to exhibit your work, you wouldn't oppose it; it was a great opportunity, and you had nothing to lose by trying.
However, you hadn't mentioned anything to anyone. This had nothing to do with your work, and it was bothersome enough for the other members of your team to have you walking around with your camera.
You turned the page of your comic as music filtered into your ears. Leaning against one of the Jet's walls on the way home, buried in your favorite seat, Spencer got up from his couch—the one without his name, but the whole team knew belonged to him—and sat next to you, chin resting on his palm, observing you with curiosity. You tried to ignore him for a few seconds, and you noticed his free hand travel to your knee, stopping the nervous movement you didn't realize you were making.
You closed the comic and left it on your lap, removed your headphones, and stared at Spencer waiting for his inevitable question.
"You're nervous, why?" he finally asked with concern and curiosity.
"Did you get up from your throne and lower yourself to the commoners just because you think I'm nervous?" you asked back with a half-smile.
Spencer raised an eyebrow and smiled playfully. "Well, well, well," his small dimples appeared at the corners of his lips, "answering a question with another question, if that's not evasion, I don't know what is."
You rolled your eyes slightly with a smile. "Are you profiling me, Dr. Reid?"
"And you're still evading my first question," he pointed with a teasing look.
You sighed in resignation. Spencer and you knew each other very well. Based on years of working together and years of friendship, you could tell if he was going through something just by observing his behavior—dissociation, furrowed brow, avoiding any social interaction, isolation. And he knew your signs—the blasting sound of Janis Joplin in your ears, restless leg syndrome, and, of course, evasion of questions that could seem simple and innocent.
"I'm not nervous," you lied, trying to avoid showing any gesture that would normally give you away.He stopped smiling.
His lips tightened into a concerned thin line.
"But the thing is you are," he replied, softening his voice, "but I want to know why, to help you."
The way he said it made your heart leap everywhere but in your chest. You couldn't keep avoiding him, not when he looked at you like that, not with his hand soothingly on your knee.
"It's nothing bad. You really don't have to worry," you nervously nibbled on your lips and then settled in the chair to lean closer to him so that the others wouldn't hear. "It's just that Lizzie showed a couple of my photos to her boss, and he offered me a space in his gallery for a couple of exhibitions. Nothing big."
Spencer opened his mouth with a surprised smile, and his fingers tightened on your knee, giving a gentle and excited squeeze.
"That's wonderful," he whispered with a suppressed shout, and then his other hand went up to your neck, affectionately stroking your hair. "And when is it?"
"Uh... it's today," you mumbled the answer quickly, and you saw him frown with curiosity.
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"It's not that I didn't want to. It's just that you guys are so busy, and I already annoy you enough by putting my lens in your faces all the time. It's not a big deal."
Spencer raised his eyebrows incredulously. "Are you kidding? It's a big deal, and you never annoy us."
"You have to say that; you're my friend."
"Best friend," he corrected, "and my opinion counts even more."
That made you smile.
"I didn't want to make a big fuss about this," you whispered, looking down at your lap uncomfortably.
"I know, I know you don't like to. But I'm also happy for this; I know you enjoy taking those photos, and they're an important part of who you are."
You lifted your gaze to meet Spencer's honest eyes.
"Thank you, Walt."
He closed his eyes almost immediately as soon as you called him by that nickname. Leaning his head against the seatback, he opened his eyes, laughing softly.
"You've returned to being yourself. It's good that it wasn't anything bad; I was worried."
You blinked slowly as confirmation. "It's nothing to worry about. Thank you for caring"
You placed hand on his, returning his squeeze.
"I love you, you know..."
And there it was again: your heart outside your chest.
"Yeah" you whispered "I love you too" you added.
And you meant it.
You really did.

Due to lack of affecion in my life I gladly wanna say that I made another
Slashers hugs and kisses headcanons
It's fully swf! Pure fluff! They/them Somone hug me pls. Request open
Brahms Heelshire
How his hugs look like: he either goes romantic and hugs them very gently OR just grabs them and holds them as close to him as possible. Loves hearing heartbeat too (when laying in bed )
He loves any kind of physical contact with them! Any handholding, hugs, cuddles ANYTHING this guy loves. Especially grabbing their hips or dhoulders when they are cooking or doing chores
Laying in bed together before staring day and morning routine is a must! He needs to wake up with good mood or he will stay grumpy for whole day
Also pls give him little kisses! On cheeks, forehead, hand, neck HE LOVES THOSE
Billy Lenz
Hugs on couch, him on top cuddling like his life depends on it, like they gonna evaporate in his hands if he stops hugging
Also he is going to say a lot of weird things (wow no way billy lenz saying weird stuff??) And he will inform them that he is plannin on doing the nasty with them later (respectfully)
But he enjoys the moment
Everytime he sees them after long day (assuming that s/o works/studies outside their household) he will just keep one of his arms around them till they go shleep really
Also he stares, a lot, if they aren't in huggy mood he will just stare without any emotions on his face, hes not mad he just misses the warm feeling of somone loving him :(
Also he bites
Asa emory
I swear this little prankster will pretend he fell asleep on couch while yall be watching movie, just to hear them react and take care of him. Also he melts when they give him little kisses or turn tv off so he can peacefully nap.
Or when they are tired after long day and have nap on him while he monologues about cool bugs. Playing with hair and lil massage included
He doesnt really like hugging while he just stands, it feels so akward, so he rather go lay on couch/sit on armchair while yall wanna get phisical
Every cuddle session ends with one of you falling asleep and other one really hates waking the first one up
Jason Voorhees
I dont really write for Jason but oh boi
Cuddling before sleep is so goofy, this guy is huge, like HUGE. If s/o prefers being smol spoon he will cover them completely, he is one of those people who put their leg on their partner so they are closer. But if s/o prefers being big spoon, he will giggle, blush even, he loves it! Also good luck with not being squshed at night
This guy really goes 'a mimiimi ah mimimii zzz' when sleeping btw
He will pick them up while hugging and hold hands 24/7, especially after that one event when s/o got lost in Forest once. No. No more of that pls there are degenerates around
Bear hugs
Micheal Myers
No
Just no
He won't hug anyone really, its uncomfortable for him. I mean after really long time spent and enough trust given, he will let them hug him, or grab his arms and hands and give him lil smooches
But he won't really give those back, no, even if they are very upset or in bad mental situation, he won't. Respect that
Again-if he knows them well and likes them, he will pay no mind in them giving him smooches or hugging him. He gets that that's how they find comfort, but don't think he will do it too
Vincent Sinclair
This one is very hugable bean
He will be akward due to his lack of social skills but oh boi isn't he very meow meow?
When they kiss his head or hug him while saying something nice. Guy will be soso happy
He gets very shy when Bo sees yall hugging. Like he did something embarrassing:(( somone needs to explain to this poor baby that hugs and comfort is okay and valid :(
Bo Sinclair
His hands are all over them
If yall aren't holding hands, he has his on their hip, or on they shoulder
He also kinda ??? Sniffs you??? Idk he likes how they smell?
He likes when they lay on top of him or when he's big spoon
Will say some goofy level stuff, wacky even
And bites them a bit, not hard tho
Also vincent once walked in room while yall were cuddling and laughing and he thought yall were doing the nasty and now he has (another) trauma
Boioioioojgn 3am here yall have great day bai

Nothing But Bad News
Tumblr media
Summary: In the bar you work at you live by three rules. 1 - Don't walk anywhere at night alone. 2 - Never tell a client too much. 3 - Never look for trouble.
Warnings: Drinking, Smoking, Gangster Leehan, Flirting from older men
Wordcount: 2.5k
Making ends meet has been hard. Balancing a medical social life, school, and a night job to pay bills. You barely have any time to yourself to rest and relax at all.
The alarm jolted you out of your nap. Your naps were scheduled between classes and shifts at work since you never had enough time for a full night of sleep. You rolled out of bed, knocking your textbooks onto the floor. Most of the pages were folded with sticky notes, notes you'd taken during classes or that your friends had helped give you when you slept in class. Scooping them up, you tucked the books into your backpack and set the bag by the door to take with you.
It was time for another shift at the bar, hopefully, there would be some of the heavy tippers coming by since it was a Friday night. Most of the heavier tippers were the ones who liked talking and asking questions. You hated telling those drunkards anything, but anything for a good tip at the end of the night. Sometimes you'd walk out with $300 if you were a "good boy". Luckily no one's taken the opportunity to try and press you for more service other than that few overly drunk new patrons, but management was pretty on top of security. They even let you study behind the bar when it wasn't too busy.
You slipped on a jacket and a dark-collared shirt. You learned your lesson about wearing light-colored shirts after someone threw up on you. Much easier to work in dark clothes.
The bus stop was a few minutes walk from your apartment. The weather was decently so you didn't rush to the stop as you soaked in the last drops of the sunset. You waited at the stop for about ten minutes before the bus arrived. Your usual spot at the back, by a window, was open and you took a seat. Headphones in, music on shuffle, and a short snooze on the bus.
Like clockwork, you woke up three stops before yours. There were mostly familiar faces on the bus, the same faces who ride often to go their several ways. As your stop rolled on, you stood from your seat and your feet hit the pavement in a fast walk. It was dark with the street lights few and far between. You learned fast that it was always better to mind your business and not look at anyone, especially if they were looking at you. Keep your head down.
You stopped at a street light, waiting for the signal, as another man stood oddly close to you. Maybe a pickpocket, but you knew that if you reached for your wallet, you'd just give your money away – as if you had any to really lose right now.
The man had long brown hair, a black leather jacket, and baggy jeans. Probably, 20 years old – maybe a little younger, but the shadows on his face made his facial structure stand out.
He glanced over at you, and you looked down at your phone.
It was a good idea to get this look in case you needed to identify him for robbing you, but getting caught doing that wouldn't be a good idea... The signal lit up and you crossed the street with other people waiting. The man's hand grazed yours, and you grabbed him and pushed his hand away from you.
"Sorry," You muttered, pretending you'd just bumped into him.
You looked slightly over your shoulder to see the man looking downcast at you among the crowd, not moving at all. He locked eyes with you, just for a moment, before you turned back around. It was time to leave.
Walking into the bar, soft jazz playing from the live band and men were already sitting and drinking at their tables. Most of them were older – 50's to 60's, and smoked fat cigars. Some played cards most talked and laughed with each other.
"Whoa! Here comes the hot stuff!" One man whistled as you walked in. A regular, Mr. Tony. He always told you to call him Tony, but policy says you have to call everyone Mr. or Ms. Your boss was an old-fashioned man, gender-neutral terms were a little over his head.
"It's good to see you, Mr. Tony. I hope you plan on paying for your own drinks tonight, I have too many angry gamblers in here when you start playing." You threw a smile in his direction which got a wink in return from Mr. Tony.
"Well, you can always sit with me and play a few hands! We all know you're better at this than us," He chuckled.
You stepped behind the bar and into the storage room. The lockers were old but useable – but wouldn't lock though. You put your backpack inside the locker, checking all your belongings before your shift. Inside the locker was a note.
Hey Champ,
The other tender called in sick today, I'll be on call but I'm a lil busy. If you need me, call me – But I know you can handle these lousy bastards. Keep them from makin' a mess.
- Boss
You rolled your eyes at the note. Of course, you'd have no extra help tonight. It was like that every Friday night... So there wouldn't be any extra study time for you...
Stretching yourself in preparation for a long shift, you cracked your neck and knuckles, let out a long sigh, and then walked back to the front of the house.
"Okay, fellas, the bar's open. Who's first?" You asked.
One after another, all the men would take their time coming up to the bar to make requests. Some wanted singles, others wanted shots for the tables. You'd been working there long enough to earn some respect amongst the clients, so they were more than willing to be polite, especially with the muscular bouncers watching from the side exit door. She never spoke, Boss called her, Silent but Deadly, and the name stuck. SBD for short.
Everything was going about as well as you expected. It was a semi-busy night; a few spilled drinks, some first-timers complained, and some occasionally flirted shooting their shot with you.
At about 12 AM, two hours before closing, there was a sudden change in the atmosphere. The main door opened and everyone got quieter, the room got colder, and expressions hardened. You knew what that meant – someone from the mob had walked in. Great.
You didn't look over, just shouted from the bar, "Welcome in, take a seat. If you wanna order, you have to come up here." Pretending to clean a cup, you did everything in your power not to look in their direction. But, as luck would have it, the figure sat right at the bar. The other patrons at the bar moved and found a table somewhere else, leaving you alone with this person.
You bit your lip and swallowed your anxiety. It's just another customer. "How can I help you?" You looked up to see the face of the man from the street.
He smirked at seeing you, letting his head lean back slightly so he could look down at you, his nose, a straight slope, pointed up slightly.
"We meet again," He chuckled. His voice was deep and he spoke softly.
You cocked your head to the side, "Sorry, I don't know you. And no we haven't met in a past life."
"You've heard that one before?"
You shrugged, "a few dozen times tonight."
He put his elbows on the bar, "What's a pretty boy like you doing in a place like this? Community service in an old folks home?"
The draggers in the back he was getting from the onlookers were almost visible. Everyone clearly didn't like him, but that wasn't enough to call for security to kick him out. Boss had always been clear that there needed to be a good reason for kicking someone out. Otherwise, it could bite us in the ass.
"Can I get you something?" You slip a glass into your hand.
He took a second to think, "Sure. Got any lemonade?"
You filled the glass with lemonade, tossed some ice, and slid it to him. "Call if you need anything else, I got more guests," You started to walk away but he whistled at you. Normally, you wouldn't respond to a whistle but on instinct, you turned on your heels. "Yes, sir?"
"Don't I get one of those little umbrellas? With the flowers?"
You clapped your hands in front of you, "No, sir. I'm sorry, we don't do that here."
"Eh, that's a shame," He slumped.
You tried to turn around again.
"What's your name?" He asked.
Oh, this was going to be a long night. "My name is Y/n," You replied.
"I'm Leehan."
"Interesting name."
"Not my real one. Not that it matters to you."
"Can I go, or do you need something?"
"What's the rush? Can't you talk to me for a little, just us?" Leehan snuck an eyebrow raise at the end of his sentence.
"I'm sorry. I'm not an escort, and I'm working. If there's anything you wanna say – you'll have to say it in front of everyone."
"What about when you're not working–"
You leaned closer to him on the bar, "Look, Mr. Leehan. I'm trying to be nice and chat, but I gotta work. Otherwise, I'll lose this job. So if you don't mind, I'll be stepping over there. And you shouldn't ask a bartender a question like that."
You knew you'd get chewed out for that later, but he was really starting to push your buttons.
Leehan smiled at you, "You're kinda cute when upset. Sorry for holding you up, go ahead and work."
The other patrons were watching the bar like hawks. While they were all old-timers, they seemed to like you and were more than a little protective of you. When you got to Mr. Tony's table, he waved you closer to him.
"Do you need this guy outta here?" He asked.
You shook your head, "That's alright, Mr. Tony."
He sucked his teeth at you, "You know how I feel about you calling me, Mr."
"And you know how Boss feels about me dropping the formalities," You scooped up the empty glasses and placed them on a tray.
Tony scratched his beard, "Keep an eye on this guy. He's off."
"I keep my eye on all of you."
"I'm serious – that boy seems like bad news."
You nodded, "I understand. Thank you, Mr. Tony."
You finished your rounds and walked back to the bar. Leehan's lemonade was still the same as you'd left it. He'd not even taken a sip of it. You pointed at the drink, "Not want you wanted?"
Leehan shook his finger, "I wanted to drink it while talking to you. So I don't mind waiting."
You put the tray down and started to rinse the cups, placing each in their slot under the bar. "So, what do you want to talk about, Mr. Leehan."
"I like, Mr. Leehan. It's so cute," He leaned back in his seat.
"It's what I'm supposed to call you."
"Say it, again?"
You sighed, "Mr. Leehan."
"But with feeling, like you don't hate saying it."
You bit your tongue so you didn't curse at him. You took a deep breath and smiled brightly, "Mr. Leehan, are you enjoying talking to me?"
He nodded, "Yes. You're divine."
Maybe he's a good tipper. "Well, I'm glad you think so. You're not so bad."
That really made Leehan giggle.
The two of you talked for the rest of your shift. He inquired about school and work. You gave the least amount of information possible. Each time you tried to ask about him, he'd turn it around and ask you more questions. These types of people were always tricky...
By the end of the shift, you'd closed out everyone's tabs. Clients went on their way, saying goodbye to you. Mr. Tony stayed the longest before it was time for even him to go.
"Be careful out there, hot stuff," He warned.
"I always am, Mr. Tony," You replied.
He glared at Leehan as he left out the door. Meanwhile, Leehan hadn't taken his eyes off you, sipping at his drink occasionally until he finished it.
"Well, Mr. Leehan, thank you so much for such a lovely night. I hope we can see each other again," You take his cup from him, trying to hurry him out.
"Do you need a ride home? It's dark out," He asked.
"No, that's alright. I've got a ride."
You always took the bus to and from work, but none of your clients knew that. You'd always mention someone coming to get you at the end of the night so they'd leave you alone, but no one had ever offered you a ride before... Leehan left with a smile and a wave as SBD locked the door behind him. You look at Leehan's seat, to find a wallet in his chair. He'd left it behind!
"Hey, a customer left his wallet, I'll be right back," You told SBD as you unlocked the door.
Outside, it was darker than usual. The lights from the bar were always unreliable, so you had to use your phone's flashlight. You spotted Leehan leaning against a motorcycle, putting on gloves.
"Mr. Leehan! You left your wallet inside," You walked over and handed it to him.
He took it with a smile, "Sweet and nice. Should I be counting the dollars in here?"
"I didn't take anything–"
"I was kidding," Leehan opened his wallet to show a wad of cash. He took out a handful of bills and handed it to you, "I forgot to tip you."
It was at least $400! You wanted the money badly, but your heart... couldn't accept it. "I'm sorry, this is way too much for just one lemonade."
"Consider it a thank you then. For keeping me company, talking to me, and returning my wallet."
"I–"
Leehan shoved the cash into your hand, "I mean it. Plus, there's way more coming your way. If you're interested."
The thought of more money piqued your interest. This tip alone was enough to cover half your rent. "What exactly do you need?"
"I need someone I can talk to every once in a while. I want to hire you to be that person."
"Just talk?"
Leehan shrugged, "We can add on to that if needed. Of course, more payment would be required from me for anything extra."
You considered it while holding the cash in your hand, "Sure... If it's just talking."
"Excellent," He extended his hand to you.
You took it and shook it.
"You'll start immediately."
"Huh–" There was a sudden pain in the back of your head and then darkness... The last thing you could see was Leehan looking over you with a sweet smile.

bi-han and affection
pairing: character study; no pairing
genre: angst; no comfort
warnings: intergenerational trauma, death
hi there! this was just something i wrote in a hurry because i desperately need more bi-han characterization/character studies. also, yall can snatch autistic!bi-han from my cold, dead hands. hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
bi-han is not a conventionally affectionate person.
as far as he recalls, he never was. bi-han doesn't dwell on childhood memories as much as his brothers do - he doesn't see the usefulness of reminiscing, especially on memories he sees as useless. but, as far as he recalls, he's always been distant, even in the beginning of his training.
(bi-han doesn't have any memory from before he began his lin kuei training; his oldest memory is holding a bo and learning how to use it as a weapon by his tutor. he was 7).
he does not enjoy physical contact. he never enjoyed it, even as a kid - being touched without consent is something bi-han despises with a fiery passion. the cryomancy does not aid in that aspect; the warmth of the touch is bothersome and sometimes painful. but it feels uncomfortable in a different way, almost as if his bones ache inside his body once people touch him without consent or warning. it often leads to an angry discussion or someone leaving with a broken nose. kuai liang tends to deal with the situation for him, especially when the perpetrator is an important figure or of interest to the lin kuei. but sometimes his reaction time gets the best of him - and confrontation is inevitable.
at the same time, bi-han is not verbally affectionate. when necessary, bi-han can lecture his students on fighting techniques, on weaponry, on war strategy and philosophy. he has done it before countless times, each time more eloquently than the last - bi-han is an excellent teacher, even though he lacks patience most times. but when it comes to interpersonal relations, bi-han is a complete disaster. surely, he can converse with other clan leaders, can discuss politics and trade deals, can and has secured alliances with other clans ever since he became grandmaster. he looks smooth - but, in private, bi-han falls flat every single time he has to interact with someone. it feels odd and weird and uncomfortable, both for the person and for him. it feels just like being touched, like his bones creak under his muscles once the awkwardness sets in - it feels physically painful.
so he refrains. he refrains from most celebrations or social gatherings, he does not interact with people outside of work or training. he leaves his bedroom in the early morning, works and trains until exhaustion and, once he's satisfied with his productivity, returns to his chambers to bathe, eat and sleep. that is, if he doesn't sleep at his table, in the grandmaster's office - kuai liang finds him unconscious on top of stacks of papers, sleeping over lin kuei documents and mission reports.
(on those nights, either kuai liang or tomas leave him a cup of tea and some food for once he wakes up. bi-han never thanks them for it, but they know he appreciates the care).
even before he became grandmaster, bi-han had the exact same routine: wake up, train, classes, train again, eat, bathe and sleep. his cryomancy interfered severely with his sleep - something about his metabolic rate trying to compensate for the cold, so he feels constantly awake. insomnia has accompanied him for years and the easiest way to sleep is to just exhaust himself enough that he passes out and sleeps until the next morning. it doesn't always work - but it does the trick on most nights. his mother was desperate seeing her son exhaust himself to sleep, but they had no other solution to the issue.
his mother worried about him. she knew bi-han was the most dedicated of all her sons, even though kuai liang and tomas have always been as devoted to the clan as the eldest. but bi-han's obstinate nature worried her. it worried her that bi-han would exhaust himself to the point of death to fulfill his father's demands. the lack of physical contact and verbal communication, even with his own family, terrified her; and realizing how closed off bi-han had and would always be made her worry for his wellbeing even in her last days.
kuai liang and tomas don't talk about it. they know trying to argue with bi-han is futile - and would end badly for both of them. tomas knows bi-han is closed-off because he feels uncomfortable and would rather die than force his brother into an uncomfortable situation. kuai liang still worries and wishes his brother would open up more, even if only with his brothers, but he also knows bi-han is not the type of person to verbalize concerns or issues. his brother is practical and methodical; the type of person to solve the issue before telling anyone about it. so he knows that, if someone were the matter, he would know sooner or later; but his mother's worry rubbed off on him.
bi-han may not be verbally or physically affectionate, but one can clearly tell when he is worried. bi-han cares for very few people in this world and he unconsciously dotes over them a little when worried - which is a lot, considering bi-han does not dote on anyone in normal circumstances. questioning on their welfare and wellbeing is a very clear sign bi-han is worried (at least for his brothers, who are often at the other end of the question). tending for wounds and aiding with training unprompted are also possibilities, while less common. openly admitting worry is the final and rarest event, only reserved for his late mother.
for bi-han, worry and doting are a display of affection. not that he realizes it consciously, since he rarely dwells on the reason why he acts like this with specific people. but ensuring their safety and wellbeing is how he shows people that he cares, even if he can't verbalize it properly. (he doesn't verbalize it at all; bi-han does not do feelings).
bi-han may not be conventionally affectionate - but he worries plenty for the ones he loves. and that is enough, at least for him.

Because I am such a lucky duck °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ @iron-sparrow and @viiioca °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ tagged me in this banger meme again! So I get to do it for Oli after all \o/ ₊⊹♡ Thank you both for thinking of me!! ₊⊹♡
Tumblr media
basics
Name: Oliviede Ebrelnaux (Phonetic: OH-LIHV-ee-yee-dah EHB-rel-NAH)
Nicknames: Just Oli
Age: 35
Nameday: 21st Sun of the Sixth Umbral Moon
Gender: Female, although non-binary wouldn't be wrong either, really.
Orientation: Asexual.
Profession: Travelling herbalist/alchemist. Occasional anthropogeologist.
physical aspects
Hair: Black with a few wisps of grey here and there.
Eyes: Mossy green
Skin: Pale.
Tattoos/scars: An assortment of artistic branding and scarification, self-administered. Oli has brands on her palms, sternum, biceps and Achilles heels, currently. She will likely acquire more designs over her body as time goes on.
family
Parents: Father, Astervain Ebrelnaux Mother, Orella Ebrelnaux nee Cordwyk
Siblings: None. Interracial mixing is considered kind of a taboo by the games canon and so I assumed Oli's parents were nice enough not to put another kid through all that.
Grandparents: Grandfather, Fernerin Ebrelnaux Grandmother, Amianne Ebrelnaux nee Contillaud
Grandfather, Wyat Cordwyk Grandmother, Tilla Cordwyk nee Kemp
In-laws and Other: For some context, Most of Oli's family died in the Calamity. Her Aunt on her Mother's side is her only living relative, and Ermina and Orella had fallen out a few years prior to the fall of Dalamud. Her Aunt married a fellow survivor of the Calamity who had lost his wife and became step-mother of his two young children. They live in Eastern Thanalan, and Oli's Aunt is a member of the Alchemist's Guild in Ul'dah. But, thanks to the past difficulties between her Mother and Aunt, Oli has a strained relationship with the surviving members of her family. But, here they are! Aunt, Ermina Cooke nee Cordwyk Uncle, by marriage, Ricard Cooke Cousins, by marriage not blood, Willem Cooke, Edila Cooke.
Pets: None, unless you count Chessie, which you can. However Oli see's Chessie much more like a person than a pet.
skills
Abilities: Alchemy, botany, herbalism, aetherofloraculture and horticulture, conjuration magic, a really mean left hook.
Hobbies: Gardening, baking, making perfume, listening to Cyfrenne gossip and tutting appropriately, babysitting Callineaux on field work assignments, helping Leon name his mammets.
traits
Most Positive Trait: Very patient!
Most Negative Trait: Very patient.
likes
Colors: Oli's favorite colour is yellow, however she wears it rarely. She is more prone to wearing earthy tones, deep browns, greys and creams, greens, a rust red here and there.
Smells: Patchouli, basil, petrichor, fresh bread, copper
Textures: Autumn leaves, river stones, finely spun gauze, heated metal
Drinks: Tea with a slice of lemon, apple juice, Gin Bramble
other details
Smokes: Not habitually, but yes, she usually has some on her. Primarily herbal cigarettes like clove, or in-universe equivalents of mugwort or coltisfoot.
Drinks: Socially or for ritualistic reasons.
Drugs: Socially or for ritualistic reasons.
Mount Issuance: Oli's mount is a Chocobo named Chessie. An old, barren breeding mare that was among the bo's that fled from Ishgard into the Shroud. As the bird wasn't much use to Bentbranch, she bought her from them, and Chessie has traveled with her just about everywhere since. Chessie is short for Chestnut, and though I haven't gotten around to dying her in-game mount, I headcanon Chessie's feathers have taken on a darker tan as she's aged, which is why Oli gave her that name.
Been Arrested: No, Oli's always kept her head down because she's half-Hyur and that's what her parents and extended family always told her to do. She got pulled up a few times for fighting in both Ul'dah and Dravania during her studies, (because she isn't the best with conflict and using her words to communicate feelings like anger.) But she's never had to spend any time behind bars.
Thank you both so much for the tags! It was fun to do this again with Oli! <3 I will try to tag a few folks who might not have had a chance to do this yet, or who I think have alts they might like to do it with! As always, absolutely no pressure if you've already done it/don't want to!

I've been given express permission (thanks Kate) to rant on tumblr about fallout bc iIstagram is too straight and neurotypical for that. So, here's 5 Danse headcanons that I love dearly. 1. Hairy, hairy man. Big ol' bear man. Danse is covered in hair, especially his actual hair, which, combined with years of grime and oil, is so thick that you can barely get a brush through it. That being said, his beard took years to grow, and he has the worst case of babyface without it. 2. Loves being tall. Listen, Danse is a tall guy in my books. 6'4 MINIMUM. And in my mind, when someone asks him to reach something on a high shelf, or pin up something in a out-of-reach corner, he gets a little ego boost. While he prefers being in his Power Armor, I reckon when he's out of it, he's the tallest not just in his squad, but in the Brotherhood, and I reckon he takes pride in being the resident "can you get that for me?" guy.
3. He's a junkyard KING. Growing up in Rivet City, after making a living off of junk and random crap he's found across the wasteland, you'd expect him to know a little about scrapyards and the likes. With his background in junk and scrap, I also like to think he has a tendency to hoard items. Like, you'll be out on a mission and he'll pick up a hundred little items and refuse to sell them, because "What if they appreciate in value?"
4. He has a tattoo of Cutler's holotag on his shoulder. This ties in with another headcanon I have, where the BoS makes initiates get their holotags tattooed on them in case they lose the physical copy. I reckon Danse has Cutler's on his shoulder (That being where it was on Cutler) and his is on his wrist.
5. TERRIFIED. OF. BABIES. Coming from an autistic person (yes, this means I hc him as autistic) with a fear of children, I reckon Danse shares that fear. From his years of studying social cues and mimicking those around him, which were mostly adults, when he comes into contact with a child, Danse doesn't know how to interact with one. They're unpredictable at best, and at any given moment could do the most out-of-left-field crap imaginable. Since Danse works off of prediction, a child is his worst nightmare.

After 2 years, I've finally completed Peach Creek High School. This is the school An, Edd n Eddy goes to since they're at a highschool age.
Tumblr media
Like the college in SMG4 has clubs to choose from, Peach Creek High School has clubs for them to take interest in, however, history, social studies, math, science, P.E., and art are all required classes.
Many American highschools have grades 9-12, I decided that this School has grades 7-12. Why? I tried to figure out which school system to choose because for some reason, I keep thinking about Jonny and the others, so I thought like "screw it!" and make it an American highschool that has an Australian School system.
However, there are characters like Sarah, Jimmy, Edgar, Anna-Bella, and Emmalie that also take this school too. Probably for clubs they're interested in before going back to elementary school.
Clubs:
•Art club (required class)
•Orchestra club
•Band club
•Jazz club
•Book club
•Crafts, Design, and Fashion club

If you could recommend Dan any comedians (or media) to study who/what would you choose? Like things that might help him improve his craft? Not in a mean way just in a honing his skills type of way. A little homework as a treat.
you have no idea how much you're indulging me with this right now, but let's fucking gooooo
i honestly think dan is well-versed in comedy and having the experience he's currently having with touring his comedy material is only gonna help him (even if it's mainly to an audience that already likes him), so in general i think he's on the right track, so the things i say here are way more for people who are interested in comedy in general than about what i think dan should do, but i will mention some stuff related to him just to further contextualize his comedy.
what i would recommend anyone that is interested in comedy (not only as a career path but as a genre, a study subject, etc) would be getting into theory to understand some of the whys and hows of comedy.
i wrote my undergraduate thesis on comedy (and i got an 100% score 🤓) and as torturous as writing a thesis can be, reading and learning more about comedy through an academic lens was extremely exciting, which is why i recommend diving into the different theories and theorists and how comedy is perceived in different historical contexts.
under the cut i put some more thoughts and recommendations to learn more about comedy:
There are several theories that try to explain what is comedy, humor, why we laugh, etc. but I try to narrow it down to 3 main ones: Incongruity, Superiority and Relief.
Although I have not read ALL of them ENTIRELY (some of these I've only read the bits that helped my thesis), for pure theory I recommend some of the work I used for my own research:
• Poetics by Aristotle
• Laughter: An Essay on the Meaning of the Comic by Henri Bergson
• Humour by Terry Eagleton
• Essays on Poetry and Music by James Beattie
• Humor by Sigmund Freud (Yup. That guy)
• Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious by Sigmund Freud
• Human Nature by Thomas Hobbes
• Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes
• On Humor by Luigi Pirandello
• Histoire du rire et de la dérision by Georges Minois (I couldn't find an English version of this book online, but it's available in French and Portuguese)
Another way to be exposed to some theory without a lot of effort is by watching Nannette by Hannah Gadsby because she quite directly addresses Incongruity and Relief in that special. I also think it's a good experience overall, so even if you don't wanna learn about comedy, go ahead and watch Nannette.
When it comes to comedy as a tool for social change (which I see as an important aspect of comedy, and I believe that is also a goal for Dan's journey with comedy) I recommend the following (especially the first one):
• A funny matter: toward a framework for understanding the function of comedy in social change by Caty Borum Chattoo
• Storytelling for Social Change: leveraging documentary and comedy for public engagement in global poverty by Caty Borum Chattoo & Lauren Feldman
• Why stand-up matters by Sophie Quirk
When it comes to mental health, a big topic in Dan's comedy, needless to say Bo Burnham is a great source for that kind of material, but the truth is many comedians (big names and beginners) are talking mental health nowadays in their work, so there is a lot of work to explore out there. But I recommend watching Laughing Matters, a short documentary featuring several comedians talking about their mental health and their careers in comedy, and John Mulaney's part on Netflix's The Hall: Honoring the Greats of Stand-Up where he talks about Robin Williams. These works help demystify that terrible myth that in order to be a comedian or seek comedy you have to be some sort of tortured soul, that whole idea of "my trauma made me funny", etc. Still kinda on that line of mental health but a bit more, like, autobiographical, which is kind of the line where Dan is going, I feel like Nannette, as previously mentioned, is a good one and so is Rothaniel by Jerrod Carmichael (HBO Max). Although most comedians will do kind of autobiographical work, I think these two just kind of hit closer to where Dan is aiming.
To understand more comedy from the POV of comedians themselves I recommend any podcast on comedy like Comedy Bang Bang, You Made It Weird, Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, etc. and listening to episodes featuring comedians you like. I think having a favorite comedian and watching anything by them where they talk about their journey with comedy can make this easier. Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee is also this great window into this world of comedy and the way these comedians see their craft and their journeys (fair warning about this show and, honestly, getting into comedians in general: many people here are talented but suck ass as people. Consume their work at your discretion).
For me, I love John Mulaney as a comedian, so I tend to favor his views on comedy and I find that his interview with Larry King in 2018 is quite a great way to see his understanding of performing comedy and his own role in it. I also like Robin Williams, Bill Hicks, Julio Torres, George Carlin, Patti Harrison, Maria Bamford, Jerrod Carmichael, Joel Kim Booster, and many more. But honestly, my main reference is John Mulaney, and most of my comedy knowledge comes from the US comedy, so I do think having a niche helps.
You may like British comedy better, or maybe you enjoy comedy from your country better, or maybe you just don't get physical comedy at all, or you can only feel alive when you consume cringe comedy, etc. I like comedy a lot but I'm not into every kind of comedy in the same way. But I would say that being exposed to as many different kinds of comedy, formats and comedians as possible can be very positive because there's so much to learn from any well-done joke, y'know?
For me, one type of comedy that feels indispensable to any performer is improv comedy. The "yes, and..." mentality is essential to anyone going on stage and facing an audience. And to anyone writing comedy, being given a random situation and not escaping from it but learning to expand it is essential. And, honestly? Just regular living can be improved with some improv. So, obviously: Whose Lines Is It Anyway? is a good way to start there (I favor the older ones but that's because I ferociously consumed every 90s-2000s episode of the US WLIIA when I was a teenager). If you're Brazilian, Improvável by Barbixas is a great way to start as well with almost endless content to explore.
And, honestly? Any video essay on comedy, comedians or comedy media you enjoy. We all love a good video essay. I like:
• How Nathan Fielder Undresses People by Nerdwriter1
• The Power of Storytelling: John Mulaney by PhilosoFun
• The Hidden Formula Behind Almost Every Joke on Late Night by Slate
• Efficiency in Comedy: The Office vs. Friends by Drew Gooden
• The Death of Laugh Tracks by Drew Gooden
• Is SNL Even Funny? by Drew Gooden
• I watched one SNL episode from every season by Drew Gooden
(What I mean here is that Drew Gooden needs to make more video essays on comedy, please.)
Oh, another thing that is really important is delivery. I will, once again, bring up John Mulaney because I think his delivery is phenomenal. The Salt and Pepper Diner is a masterclass on comic delivery, I believe. I mentally quote "Hey, November Rain is over! ... No, it's not. There's more." all the time. Which brings me to another point, listen to stand-up albums. I love watching a good stand-up special but audio makes you really appreciate the delivery of the joke. The comedian has to convince you they're worth of your time with their ability to get a joke out of their brain into the world with no help of visuals. It helps you understand that comedian's comic voice. And I think John Mulaney does that really well.
Of course there is a variety of different comics with different deliveries to also be impressed by: Dan Mintz and Nathan Fielder have kind of similar styles of voices but their humor is kind of different. Leslie Jones, Pete Davidson, Conan O'Brien, Katt Williams, Bo Burnham, Julio Torres, Daniel Sloss, Ali Wong, Katherine Ryan, Hannah Gadsby, Wanda Sykes, Tig Notaro, Chris Rock, etc, they all have different ways to speak, but they know how to work their rhythm well enough to land their jokes the right way. You gotta find your own rhythm.
And I think a final thought is: authenticity. Not that you have to give 100% of yourself all of the time. You can tweak stories, enhance certain situations, hide things, not tell the full truth, you can even straight up LIE, and all that. but you gotta make it believable. An audience that senses a lack of authenticity, won't be entertained for long. If you're not explicitly coming in with a fictional character, your audience will be seeking your essence. Your comedy is a reflection of you. So whatever you say, whatever part of your life you decide to expose, whatever vision you share, your audience is associating that to you. You're not just a medium from where the jokes come from, you are it. Which is why you can't just tell a joke because you think it will be funny, you gotta tell it because it's honest to you, to your beliefs, it resonates with you. You have to understand that the audience will see that joke as an expression of yourself.
See why Dan's joke about not washing his feet back-fired? He either picked something unauthentic to him - according to him he just chose a random example - or he did pick something authentic to him but, like many comedians do, backed out once he got called out. He had the choice of running with it, owning the joke but he backed out. And if he's honest when he says he just chose a random example, then he made the mistake of not being authentic to his own beliefs when telling a joke.
In the endddd, my favorite way to learn about comedy is by watching comedians talk about comedy. And comedy is too rich of a field to be explored only through the academic angle, or one theorist's point of view so having people who live and breathe comedy talk about it is a great source of knowledge. That's one of the reasons why in my thesis, when I explained the theories of comedy, I didn't just quote theorists, I also quoted comedians.
Final thoughts: just, y'know, be yourself. Have fun. Don't joke about not washing your feet if you don't want people to think you don't wash your feet, etc. And most importantly, punching up will always be the best way to use your craft for the better.
If you read until here, why the fuck would you do that? But thankssss. <3

WIP intro: Nicea
status // planning
tag // wip: nicea
genre // space opera, queer, romance
super quick synopsis // A small starship crew attempts to rescue their old captain, long believed dead, without collectively falling apart.
Setting
A galaxy liberally sprinkled with earthlike planets populated by humanoids. A small fraction of those humanoids are witches, those born with magical gifts that neither scientists nor magicians—those who learn to use magic through study—have been able to replicate. Travel between star systems is accomplished with warp magic, sometimes through the direct intervention of a warp witch on a starship, but more often through permanent stabilized warp tunnels. Some systems are completely warp-isolated, for any number of reasons. Even in connected systems, many people never leave their home planet or system. The Nicea’s home system is Antarac.
Proper Synopsis
Ten years ago, Cady, the Nicea’s first captain, never came back from warp racing with his friend Bo. The logical conclusion was that they had both died after accidentally falling out of their warp tunnel at high speed—that was just the risk of racing. The Nicea’s crew was devastated, especially Cady’s husband, Declan, and Bo’s best friend, Tristan. When Nicea Shipping resumed business a few years later, things were different. Declan, not wanting to interact with customers who knew Cady, became the shadow captain of the ship, assigning the public-facing roles to the charismatic load specialist, Isabel. Her brother Rodney, originally little more than a cabin boy trying to escape planetside worries, became Declan’s assistant and right-hand man. Tristan stayed on as pilot while wishing she’d never introduced Cady to warp racing. And Spinder continued maintaining the Nicea, fixing it in ways he couldn’t fix his crew as they tried to move past mourning his nephew. So life went on.
Until one spring afternoon when the Nicea has just returned planetside only to receive a message from Cady and Bo: they didn’t die. Instead, they’re stuck in an isolated system several hundred light years away with no way to warp out. Bo could eventually get them back if they had a warp-rated ship, but the initial fall totaled their racer and getting a warp ship is impossible in a system that has no reason to build them.
Suddenly, a two-month break on the ground becomes two weeks, just long enough to figure out how the Nicea can make it that far. But even with warps, it’s the longest trip the crew has ever taken together, and soon the cracks begin to show. They’re a crew—they’re a family—but Cady and Bo’s return might be enough to tear them apart.
Main Characters
Cassidy “Cady” Thilta
he/him, 40, human, trans
position // previous captain of the Nicea; pilot
system of origin // Antarac
In order of difficulty, his three dreams were to marry Declan, make it through pilot school with a warp certification, and start a business in space. He managed all three with a lot of work and more than a little charisma. But as the once-thrilling became the happily mundane, the allure of space drew him in further and he turned to warp racing as his new source of challenge and adrenaline. A decade apart from almost everyone and everything he knew has changed him, though maybe not for the better.
Rannebo “Bo” Aveldan
they/he, 61, dragon person
position // warp witch
system of origin // Hybres
Though they were never a part of the Nicea’s crew, they used to show up at most of the crew’s social events. Contrary to most dragon person stereotypes, they are quiet and unassuming—but that doesn’t stop them from being intensely competitive about anything they have skill with, even if they’re only competing against themself. When they came to Cady and Tristan’s pilot academy for warp training, they dethroned Tristan as the champion of bar billiards and quickly became her closest friend.
Declan Ruse
he/him, 40, human
position // de facto captain of the Nicea
system of origin // Antarac
mildly ruined break plans // participating in anti-terraforming protests and making an obligatory yearly visit to Cady’s immediate family. He actually really likes them until someone gets drunk and melancholy.
At first glance he seems like Cady’s polar opposite: grounded, laconic, and just as much a planetsider as a spaceman, if not more. But underneath that, they share the same punk philosophy that has helped Declan not wallow in his grief even as Cady’s absence became a permanent presence for him. More than anyone, he thinks of the Nicea’s crew as his family, not least because he has no blood family of his own. Still, he would do almost anything to bring Cady back, even if that means pushing himself and his crew to the breaking point.
Isabel Hendriss
she/her, 36, human, trans
position // registered captain of the Nicea, load specialist
system of origin // Gevorad
mildly ruined break plans // test running her potential music career through a contract at the local pub, succeeding, then figuring out how to break it to Spinder that she (and possibly Rodney too) are leaving the crew.
As her parents’ heinous divorce in Gevorad system drew to a close, she transferred into Spinder’s high school and found that he was the one person in her class who knew anything about Gevorad system and messy family politics. By the time he recruited her onto the Nicea, they’d been best friends (with benefits) for years. She’s good at solving other people’s problems, including how to pack way too many shipments into one cargo bay, and she likes being the captain without having any of the real responsibilities of leadership. Though she’s been called a less-chaotic Cady, she doesn’t have the same craving for space that he does, and she’s ready to stay planetside again for a while.
Rodney Hendriss
he/him, 33, human, trans
position // the Nicea’s computer system admin, Declan’s assistant
system of origin // Gevorad
mildly ruined break plans // two words: spa resort. And a break from Declan, though he only has himself to blame for being such an intensely devoted assistant. If he can convince Isabel to go too, a trip across the world to see their mother.
When his father decided to prove how trans-positive he’d become since the divorce, Rodney got a heavy-handed, non-optional “invitation” to become the new son in Hendriss & Son Co. He immediately asked Isabel to get him a contract on the Nicea, even if that meant he’d just be scrubbing starship toilets—which was more or less what happened until Cady disappeared six months later. Then his emotional lightning-rod qualities and his need to be needed (and to stay employed by someone other than his father) led him to become Declan’s support. [Note: there’s nothing romantic or sexual between Declan and Rodney. They’re just two emotionally entangled gays]
Spinder Callawel
he/him, 35, human
position // the Nicea’s mechanic
system of origin // Antarac
mildly ruined break plans // extended visits with his extensive family ft. Declan, breaking off his not-quite-friends-with-benefits arrangement with his ex-boyfriend, managing to tell Isabel how he feels about her.
By far the youngest of the five Callawel siblings, Spinder grew up in his second-youngest sister’s home with her kids, who were his actual age peers. When he was fifteen, he made a pact with Cady, his nephew, to become the mechanic on Cady’s future starship, and went straight into trade school after high school. But as much as he’s focused on getting Cady back, he’s more bothered by his suspicion that something is up with Isabel that she hasn’t mentioned to him. And his own inability to tell her he’s in love with her out of fear that they’ll be just as incompatible as romantic partners and housemates as him and his ex-boyfriend.
Tristan Scherie
she/her, 47, human
position // the Nicea’s pilot
system of origin // Antarac
mildly ruined break plans // staying in a mountain cabin with her cousins, hiking, swimming—the good shit you can only really do planetside.
After becoming Cady’s thrill-seeking partner-in-crime at the pilot academy, she was recruited onto the Nicea as a secondary pilot and extra pair of hands alongside Cady, Declan, and Spinder. She warp raced with Bo until a system malfunction almost led to a tunnel breach, and the threat of sudden, unavoidable loss to the void shook her to the point that she quit. When Nicea Shipping resumed operations without Cady, its home base moved to the outskirts of her hometown, which has made it easier for her to stay connected with her community and integrate her crew into it. Her community has always been her first priority, and she refuses to take any shit about that—or anything—from anyone.

Ok, I should sleep but I just remembered that I have a 3 and a half hours break inbetween seminars tomorrow.
So obviously I couldn't sleep until I packed stuff to do. But what will I wanna do tomorrow? So I packed SEVERAL things to do. My sweater mending project, an embroidery hoop if I wanna test out stitches for my blanket project, my pen roll up that needs embroidery, my thin embroidery floss, my thick embroidery floss, my speedeweve because what if I wanna test out some weave, my switch, and my headphones. If dropout let me download stuff to my sd card I would download some stuff there, now I'll have to rely on the uni wifi working (like 30% chance it'll work).

Flowing with Nature - Interpretive Ethic
Hi everyone!
I can't believe it's already time for our final blog post! It's crazy to think how quickly time has flown by. It feels like just yesterday we began this journey of exploring nature interpretation. As I reflect on my journey, I'm excited to share with you my personal ethics as I continue to develop as a nature interpreter. This journey has been one of self-discovery, filled with moments of inspiration and growth. So, let's dive into what beliefs I bring, the responsibilities I hold, and the approaches I find most suitable.
Earlier in the semester, I remember watching a podcast that really stuck with me: “Flow, the secret to happiness” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He introduced the concept of "flow," a state of optimal experience where individuals are fully immersed and engaged in their activities, leading to feelings of clarity and fulfillment (Csikszentmihalyi, 2004). Overall, the message encourages viewers to seek activities and experiences that bring them into a state of flow, where they can find joy and purpose in their lives (Csikszentmihalyi, 2004).
Just as Csikszentmihalyi discusses finding happiness and meaning through activities that lead to a state of flow, nature interpretation encourages individuals to immerse themselves in nature in a way that promotes a similar sense of engagement and connection. Whether it's through guided hikes, wildlife observation, or hands-on conservation activities, nature interpretation provides avenues for individuals to enter a state of flow where they feel fully absorbed and connected to their surroundings. As I continue to develop as a nature interpreter, I am committed to creating experiences that enable individuals – peer, family or friends – to immerse themselves in nature, find joy and purpose in their interactions with the natural world, and cultivate a deeper connection with the environment.
For someone like me, who is passionate about nature and working with kids, the importance of educating the next generation to stay in touch with nature as well as conservation is crucial. This belief is deeply ingrained in my personal ethics and the responsibilities I feel as a nature interpreter. Through my journey in the Arts and Science program, where I'm minoring in both biology and family and child studies, I've come to recognize the profound importance of nature in a child's development.
Children are naturally curious and eager to explore the world around them. By fostering a connection with nature from a young age, we can instill in them a lifelong appreciation for the environment and a sense of responsibility for its protection. As a nature interpreter, it is my responsibility to provide opportunities for children to engage with the natural world in meaningful ways.
Additionally, as we delve deeper into the complexities of nature interpretation, I recognize the importance of addressing difficult issues that may arise. Incorporating the importance of addressing difficult issues into my personal ethics as a nature interpreter is essential for fostering a comprehensive understanding of the natural world and its complexities. As the textbook emphasizes, interpretive sites often grapple with critical issues that may span historical, environmental, cultural, and social domains (Beck et al., 2018, p. 94). It is the responsibility of interpreters to engage visitors in meaningful conversations about these topics, providing accurate information, fostering dialogue, and promoting critical thinking.
This dedication to confronting challenging topics is consistent with my belief that activism and education can bring about constructive change. In my role as a nature interpreter, I understand the importance of giving people context, a different point of view, and chances for reflection regarding matters like social justice, degradation of the environment, civil rights, and racial tensions. Interpreters can help individuals form stronger bonds with their surroundings by exploring these difficult subjects. As well as inspiring people to think about how they can contribute to the future of our planet.
Moreover, my background in both biology and family and child studies has equipped me with a holistic understanding of the interconnectedness of natural and human systems. This interdisciplinary perspective enables me to approach difficult issues from multiple angles, considering their implications for both ecological and social well-being. By integrating scientific knowledge with principles of child development, I strive to create educational experiences that resonate with diverse audiences and inspire them to become agents of positive change in their communities.
As a nature interpreter, I consider myself a conversation starter who pushes people to face hard realities and imagine a future that is more equitable and sustainable. I aim to enable people to make informed decisions and tackle urgent environmental and social issues by sharing information based on science and fostering critical thinking.
I am filled with a sense of purpose and optimism for the future as I wrap up this post. Through my journey in nature interpretation, I have come to recognize the transformative power of immersive experiences, storytelling, and education in fostering a deep connection with the natural world, particularly among children—the next generation who will care for and protect environmental.
My approach to nature interpretation is based on a commitment to providing meaningful and profound experiences that develop a lifetime love for environment and a sense of responsibility for its conservation, from embracing the idea of flow to fostering children's natural curiosity and sense of wonder. By tackling challenging topics and offering precise information based on empathy and science, my goal is to enable people to become advocates for social justice and the environment.
Thank you to all of you who took the time to read my posts throughout the semester! I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of yours. I wish each and every one of you all the best!
- Zeina :)

he/they loser die ky$
(i realize this entire answer could be read as extremely sarcastic, which i am sad has come to be the assumption and is not my intention whatsoever; i hope i managed to deliver the weight of the words i wrote, they come from a place of real unhappiness and struggle; don’t feel the need to read the whole thing, it’s quite long and probably irrelevant, skip skip)
hey anon, how are you? ^-^ hope you’re doing great!
i've been feeling quite stuck in life, for a long time really, due to the fact that i’m not being able to find my place in the world, that i’m probably far from the person i thought i was, that i feel like i’m not meeting the expectations of the people around me, as well as my own. i’ve always felt like i was the smartest of the bunch, and that my life was going to be great solely based on that, just because i high-rolled in character creation.
as the challenges i faced became harder and harder, and my results poorer and poorer, i started thinking that maybe i’m not that guy. maybe i’m just some idiot. and (i believed) ‘idiots’ can only get things done through effort. effort that i never put in, that i never learned because most things just came natural to me, and the ones that didn’t i was smart/stupid enough to escape.
i started closing more and more doors for myself, in studies, in work, and especially in my social life, i started shutting myself off because ‘if i avoid any challenge, anything that i find hard for me, i will never lose, right? and even if i do, if there’s no one around me, then no one can see me lose, and i can save this fake persona of the perfect guy that never failed’.
needless to say, that brought me to a place of extreme loneliness and guilt. i managed to keep myself busy, because i love being in my head, and the internet is a great place if you’re feeling bored (this sounds like a perfect place to say: go watch Bo Burnham’s Inside, if you haven’t yet), so aside from developing an extreme sense of superiority towards everyone else, i think i haven’t engaged in many (any?) behaviors that actively damage the people around me. but i understand not everyone is as lucky as me.
if this is the case for you, if you’re not feeling happy, if there’s anything, even the tinitest thing, that you don’t feel content with, i think talking to someone (anyone, really: friend, family member, therapist, even some stranger on the internet) could really help. it does for me! i hope this entire wall of text is useless and you’re feeling great though, from the bottom of my heart (i’m not just saying this, it’s really what i’m feeling, i literally cried while writing this).
-
as for the content of your asks, i'm going to make the arguably fair, though unprovable assumption that this is also you.
Tumblr media
i am not trans and i find it very surprising and sad that some people use the word as an insult. i am lucky enough to feel very comfortable in my body, and it pains me that there’s people in this world that not only don’t, but also get blamed because of it, that sounds like an absolute nightmare to live through. if that is the case for anyone reading, you have all my support and love (feel free to drop a dm if you’re feeling down <3).
as for my pronouns, anon, feel free to use whichever you like (and i really mean that, if you manage to call me ‘kys’ as a pronoun and make yourself understood, you are welcome to). it’s not really a thing that makes me uncomfortable, when i’m on the receiving end (again, i am extremely lucky that this is the case), i just put them out there in the hope that it makes other people feel a tiny bit more comfortable themselves.
hope you have a fantastic rest of the day, truly.

I took a break from posting art online……and then lost all that art.
So I decided to take a big break from posting to social media a few months ago. I would occasionally but the majority was kept offline. I reached a stand still with my art and felt like I needed to just work through stuff without the worry of posting it anywhere. I wanted to experiment privately without any outside input to really focus of what I wanted to improve. I just drew to draw and drew what I wanted (so HOW stuff and my own comic stuff basically). And it was amazing for my mental health. I was pumping out concept art for my comic and really honing my style to reflect how I wanted it to. It was liberating to make art without sharing it anywhere besides a few friends.
And then I accidentally deleted Procreate.
Apple has a fun lil system where if you want to remove an app from your home screen, it has a window that pops up asking to delete the app or just remove from Home Screen (it should be noted that the delete completely option is the one at the top and highlighted red). I’ve always thought to myself how bad a system that is and it would be so easy to accidentally delete an app instead of just moving it if you weren’t really paying attention.
I went through the five stages of grief in about thirty minutes when I realized there was no safe way to get 6 months of work back. Six. Months. Normally, I backup to an external drive once every two-weeks to a month at the latest, and upload finished pieces to my drive. But because I wasn’t posting it anywhere, I didn’t feel the need to and just kept forgetting. And forgetting.
So I have no one to blame other than myself. I know I wanted a revamp but a hard restart isn’t really what I had in mind. Some stuff I was able to get WIP shots of and could save but most is gone.
One piece I did manage to get my hands on again was just a quick collage of face study’s for Bo and Vincent, in their 20’s. They did have color but this shot of the sketches were all I had sent. Them smiling makes me feel pretty okay with things. I’d say lesson learned but this was a lesson I already knew and slacked off on. Don’t slack off. Back up your digital work. Even if you’re not posting online. Back. It. Up.

Abstract
Recent scholarship has challenged the long-held assumption in the social sciences that Conservatives are more biased than Liberals, yet little work deliberately explores domains of liberal bias.
Here, we demonstrate that Liberals (some might call them Progressives) are particularly prone to bias about victims’ groups (e.g. women, Black people) and identify a set of beliefs that consistently predict this bias, termed Equalitarianism.
Equalitarianism, we believe, stems from an aversion to inequality and a desire to protect relatively low status groups, and includes three interrelated beliefs: (1) demographic groups do not differ biologically; (2) prejudice is ubiquitous and explains existing group disparities; (3) society can, and should, make all groups equal in society.
This leads to bias against information that portrays a perceived privileged group more favorably than a perceived victims’ group. Eight studies and twelve mini meta-analyses (n=3,274) support this theory. Liberalism was associated with perceiving certain groups as victims (Studies 1a-1b).
In Studies 2-7 and meta-analyses, Liberals evaluated the same study as less credible when the results portrayed a privileged group (men and White people) more favorably than a victims’ group (women and Black people) than vice versa. Ruling out alternative explanations of normative reasoning, significant order effects in within-subjects designs in Study 6 and Study 7 (preregistered) suggest that Liberals believe they should not evaluate identical information differently depending on which group is portrayed more favorably, yet do so.
In all studies, higher equalitarianism mediated the relationship between liberalism and lower credibility ratings when privileged groups were portrayed more favorably. Although not predicted a priori, meta-analyses also revealed Moderates to be the most balanced in their judgments. These findings do not indicate whether this bias is morally justifiable, only that it exists.
A recent meta-analysis found that both Liberals and Conservatives were roughly equally biased when evaluating information with conclusions that were more or less congenial with their preferred beliefs (Ditto et al., 2019a, 2019b). Although many scholars continue to dispute the possibility of roughly symmetrical bias among Liberals and Conservatives, even the most skeptical scholars agree that Liberals likely are biased on some issues (e.g., Baron & Jost, 2019; Van Bavel et al., 2020).
Indeed, it has been argued that bias is a natural human tendency that evolved at least partially to facilitate group cooperation and status attainment within social groups (e.g., Clark et al., 2019; Clark & Winegard, 2020; Winegard & Clark, 2020), and thus Liberals, as humans, likely are biased in at least some domains.
Despite widespread agreement that Liberals are susceptible to biases, little work has explored domains in which Liberals display biases. Here we explore one such domain: low status groups. We contend that Liberals are biased in their evaluations of information that portray low status groups unfavorably (relative to high status groups). We also find evidence that this bias is at least partially explained by a set of interrelated beliefs about low status groups that are endorsed more strongly by modern Liberals than modern Conservatives.
[...]
General Discussion
Taken together, the data from these studies strongly support the equalitarian account of liberal bias.
First, Liberals appeared committed to intrinsic group equality. They were biased such that they found vignettes that stated that two demographic groups were equal more (although not statistically significantly relative to Women Higher in Study 5) credible than vignettes that stated that one group outperformed another.
Second, they were consistently biased against results that favored a privileged group over a victims’ group. In every single study, they rated the Privileged Group Higher vignette as less credible than the Victims’ Group Higher.
And third, scores on our equalitarian measure mediated our results in every study such that higher scores on the equalitarian measure predicted more bias among Liberals. Consistent with our hypotheses, meta-analyses revealed a significant interaction effect overall as well as within studies that manipulated sex and those that manipulated race, such that increased iberalism predicted a larger bias against information that portrays high status groups more favorably than low status groups relative to the reverse.
Also consistent with hypotheses, meta-analyses revealed the hypothesized effects for Liberals overall and within both types of studies. The meta-analyses also revealed a relatively smaller but still significant effect of the sex manipulation for Conservatives in the same direction as for Liberals, and a significant effect of the race manipulation for Conservatives in the opposite direction as for Liberals. Among Moderates, there were no significant effects of the conditions.
Our theory builds from previous work, but goes beyond it, providing a framework for understanding a powerful and largely empiricallyunexplored—but not undiscussed—source of bias. Many scholars have noted—some lamenting and some championing—that many Liberals have protective concerns for victims’ groups (e.g., Bawer, 2012; Haidt, 2012; Mac Donald, 2018; Pinker, 2003) and that those concerns can lead to powerful biases about victims’ groups. Therefore, at minimum, our theory is a prioriplausible.
But it is also largely congruent with many previous analyses of Liberals and provides a potential explanation for previous findings. For example, Liberals have a stronger pro-black bias than Conservatives (Axt et al., 2016), Liberals but not Conservatives are less willing to sacrifice the life of a Black man than a White man to save 100 others (Uhlmann et al., 2009), one of the largest discrepancies among liberal and conservative bias in the Ditto et al. (2019a) meta-analysis came from a study involving victims’ groups (Crawford et al., 2013), Liberals are more inclined to impute motives to scientists who propose biological explanations for life outcomes than those who propose more extrinsic explanations (Hannikainen, 2018), and Liberals are particularly opposed to research on male-favoring sex-differences (Stewart-Williams et al., 2021).
And this theory makes novel predictions, one of which was supported in this paper. The consistency of our results across studies and with established empirical data and with recent controversies in the academic community increases our confidence in our theory and persuades us that it might be a powerful framework for understanding certain political and even scientific biases.
Furthermore, our theory contributes to a burgeoning area of research on liberal bias that has challenged prior assumptions about the relation between political ideology and bias. For a long time, many scholars contended that Conservatives were more prone to bias than Liberals (e.g., Jost et al., 2003). However, recent evidence and arguments have challenged this asymmetry argument, asserting that bias is likely equal across political ideologies (Ditto et al., 2019a; Guay & Johnston, 2022).
Although some scholars have been troubled by this (e.g., Baron & Jost, 2019), our results also challenge the asymmetry argument and illustrate the importance of exploring many different areas of bias. Because most social psychologists are liberal, they may take liberal biases for granted; that is, they simply assume that liberal biases are correct and are not biases at all. Indeed, even when people are aware bias exists, they seem unable to identify bias in themselves (Pronin, Lin, & Ross, 2002).
Furthermore, liberal social psychologists might not be as motivated to discover and shed light on liberal bias as they are for conservative bias, because conservative thought seems more peculiar and foreign to them. When scholars have looked in the right places, though, they have found more equivalent levels of bias between ideological groups (e.g., Crawford, 2012; 2014; Brandt et al., 2014).
Of course, our results cannot settle this important debate, but they do add plausibility to the symmetrical bias thesis, or at least a ‘not as asymmetrical as previously thought’ hypothesis. And they forward a novel domain and direction of bias among Liberals.
==
As noted in the beginning, liberalism in this sense refers to American progressivism (vs conservatism) rather than Classical Liberalism, which is bipartisan.
Anecdotally, I can confirm this phenomenon.
You can point out the violence statistics. Such as 77 black or brown children killed by neighborhood gun violence in one year, versus about 12 unarmed - but not necessarily not-dangerous - black men killed by police each year. One gets national coverage, one does not. The response? Well, it must be incomplete (it's not), it must be from a far-right source (Washington Post, really?), it... it doesn't reflect the "lived reality" of black people in America today (that one might be true, only because you've fear-mongered a narrative that's in defiance of the statistics).
You can point out studies that show a police interaction is less (~27%) likely to end in a police shooting death if the citizen is black than if white. Well, you can't say that, that's racist. You want to deny systemic racism.
You can point out the dometic violence statistics which show women are more often the aggressor, men experience sexual assault, including rape, almost as often as women, lesbian relationships are more violent than straight ones, which are more violent than gay male ones, and that men are more often the fatalities in domestic violence cases when all deaths are accounted for. That's some misogynistic claims from bogus far-right stats (the CDC is not far-right, and it's been reproduced across hundreds of studies).
The narrative has to be protected at all costs. Especially when people have attached their identities to these narratives.
