I didn’t mean to say hello.

Have a nice day,

I’ll see you next time I get my pay,

Eggs benedict with salmon please and an iced coffee,

As if you could forget, my order, an open book, let us both be.

I didn’t mean to say hello,

I was feeling a little too mellow,

Falling down the valley, having lunch with Lucy, I could see you biting my pillow.

But now I can’t even say hello, I see you run, not even slow,

You run like your life depends on it, but all I meant to say was hello.

I’m not going to follow you, I only know your name, date of birth, address, university you attend, how many siblings you have, that you’re in touch with your family, that you’re a clever student.

I know I messaged you saying I wanted to see you,

You didn’t reply, but I didn’t react, instead I said adieu,

All expectations, fixations, obsessions, attempts at persuasion, delusions and my confusion flew-

Away from me but you’d run even faster if you only knew,

Maybe you could sense who I was which is why you tippy toe,

When I arrive at your café, you flick your hair and run like a hoe,

I see you run in my mind in slow- mo.

I guess that’s just the way it’s gonna go.

I mean I was only trying to be polite,

I may have gone a bit too far calling you beautiful and clever, but I was right,

But now you avoid me like the covid-19, at every chance you fight,

Like I’m some kind of blight.

Your hair drooping down, brown and curly,

Your smile bewitching me, you must realise surely,

Maybe I’m too forward (?) too much too soon when you don’t even know my name, which makes sense purely,

I can’t say I’m a good man but you don’t need to run, I won’t follow you, I don’t know where you live, well okay maybe roughly.

I don’t know exactly where you live, just the street, house number, which room in the house,

I’m in each corner of the room like a mouse,

You check your windows at night to see if I’m there but I’m not,

I haven’t even thought about you since I told you, you were hot.

I’m not going to follow you, I only know your name, date of birth, address, university you attend, how many siblings you have, that you’re in touch with your family, that you’re a clever student.

Don’t run from me, no need to be so prudent.

I’m not dangerous,

I mean I get why you became nervous,

You were just doing your job, your service,

And here comes a guy you don’t know hitting on you,

To be fair you did tell me you were single, what did you expect me to do?

Ode I sing to that girl with freckles and brown hair, beautiful green eyes and a smile that melts me,

You know my order by heart, because every week you see,

Me come into your café and order the same thing every time,

I don’t even know your name, and since you run from me I don’t think I will, and honestly I don’t really care, however even a basic conversation would be sublime.

Enough time to get lost in those eyes, I don’t know maybe in time.

As I’ll sit with my friend’s and date’s drinking my tea,

No harm intended as I’m sure you can see.
