I have two questions for your xxc loves super spicy food headcanon:
is xxc also having tears in his eyes when he's eating the spicy food (though not crying as much as a-qing and xy) or he's so used to that burning that he doesn't react strongly at all? or does he go by the rule "if the food doesn't make you cry even a little then it's not spicy enough"? I'm mostly asking because your headcanon gave me a morbidly hilarious image of xxc bleeding from his empty eye sockets every time they're eating dinner xD
2. personally I've always headcanoned xxc as having similar tastes like sl simply because at some point I assumed that the food in bssr's sect was very plain and bland. but that makes me curious: do you headcanon that the food they ate on bssr's mountain was absolutely batshit crazy? or did xxc only discover his love for spice after leaving the mountain?
(one thing is certain: xxc is a terrible cook which is so bad for him because he wants to take care of his friends and show his love by making them meals but the food he prepares is barely edible xD poor xingchen)
it is so rough for him! he just wants to express his love by providing for his favorite people! and yet nobody actually wants him to do that. :( one of the tragedies of xiao xingchen's life. if only that was the worst one.
in answer to your questions, though - as far as (1) goes I tend to think that it takes a lot more to make xiao xingchen tear up, and it's still satisfying if he doesn't, but it's fun when it happens! fun and exciting. (after giving away his eyes I think he seeks out very hot food a lot less, though, partly because of the whole "bleeding from the eyes when he cries" thing and partly because he's in a very wobbly "I don't get to have fun exciting things" emotional place.)
and then xue yang is just straight up like "we're not doing that" about the level of spice that would give him the opportunity again, when he's feeling a little happier again.
you know, in retrospect it doesn't make a lot of sense but I have headcanoned that it's a taste of home thing. but now I also really like the idea that xiao xingchen was used to fairly bland food and then discovered spices after coming down from the mountain and was absolutely thrilled by this novel development. xiao xingchen with tears streaming from his eyes and laughing because this is amazing, zichen, try some
(no thank you, says song lan gingerly. i'm good.)

your tags on that (very hot) whx photoset made me think that modern au xue yang absolutely loves to put his shoes on the couch and it drives song lan mad hsdgfkjshdgjf (xiao xingchen on the other hand probably isn't bothered by it xD)
oooooooh so i think this could go so many ways depending on the au! it could be a fun and bratty thing if sl's mysophobia is mild. like xy wants sl to rough him up so he intentionally tracks mud into the house and leaves a trail for sl to find him with his dirty shoes on the nice white couch!
but it could also be. horrible. like. xy intentionally triggering sl's mysophobia to hurt him. i think the severity of sl's mysophobia, how much xy cares about sl, and xy's mindset changes whether this is fun or cruel. either way i'm interested! hgfdsfgh
and xxc's the kind of person to walk around outside with no shoes on so he's completely unfazed by the shoes on the couch (unless it upsets sl of course). he probably wouldn't know if the muddy footprints were from him or xy jhghj
a-qing's the only respectable one who takes her shoes off at the door 100% of the time

following the theme of "feral xxc headcanons" can you give me some headcanons about Baoshan Sanren and her feral little sect and how everyday life looked on the mountain?
A lot of it was chores.
I mean, there was certainly martial arts training and memorizing of sacred texts and seated meditation and spiritual healing )clearly they teach some impressive doctoring), but the rest of the day was chores. They’re a self-sufficient community. They garden (herbs and food) and fish and go into the woods for nuts and berries and other edible plants.
They sew and weave and clean and build. There are just enough members of the not-sect that people can specialize (Xiao Xingchen, for example, spent a lot of time in the herb garden but never learned to thatch a roof so there you go), but not enough people that anyone could go without working. A lot of the busier work is characterized as meditative exercises, and it’s frowned upon to use spiritual energy. So people sweep-meditate and weed-mediate.
The older kids help raise the younger kids and everybody pitches in. At times it’s a lot like a multigenerational family. People eat and sleep and spar together. More experienced elders pair with younger ones to teach them any number of things.
It’s both very egalitarian, shockingly so compared to the rest of the world, and very regimented. Everyone pays each other a lot of respect. The only places where hierarchy really remains is in age. People respect and obey their elders and everyone takes that very seriously. Other than that, though, people tend to be blunt with one another and everyone assumed to be at everyone else’s disposal. Time is shared, the work is shared.
There’s not a lot of privacy in most of the living quarters, but there is a whole mountain to explore so if someone took off for a few days of wilderness living, no one batted an eye, especially if they came back with, say, fish and newly woven basket. People know each other’s business. They share things with each other. People don’t have much in the way of their own possessions - mostly their swords and other small things.
And it’s, of course, Daoist. There’s a true dedication to passivity, remaining apart from the world (obviously), and not leaving much of a mark. People are expected to get along and if they can’t, spend time on their own rather than argue or fight. Too much attachment is frowned upon, whether that means of possessions or less tangible things. Gentleness and inaction and passive endurance are virtues, so things don’t change often. (It’s a lot easier to accomplish this on the mountain and Xiao Xingchen begins to stray immediately from this path when he enters the world, because suddenly he has things he wants to achieve and accomplish.)
It’s a lot less orthodox though than the sort of Daoist monasteries and sects you might find off the mountain. Partially because they don’t keep up with the times. Partially because Baoshan Sanren is an eccentric. And in general they’re not big with rules. More guidelines. So Xiao Xingchen actually learned a lot from Song Lan when it came to what people would expect a wandering daoshi to do and say, rather than what he would do automatically.
Listen. They’re just weird up there. At least Xiao Xingchen never cut off anyone’s beard, Cangse Sanren.

blackteaaddict replied to your post: no one: not a single soul: me: crows look like...
i’ve always heard that crows are black and for a long time that made me confuse them with rooks. (and i’m not sure i’ve ever seen any kind of crow near my house? i mainly see the flocks rooks and jackdaws)
Rooks aren’t very common around here, and they sure look a lot like black crows. They have more bare skin around their beaks tho, so that’s a clear difference. :)

Relationships: Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn & Xiǎo Xīngchén, Xiǎo Xīngchén/Xuē Yáng | Xuē Chéngměi, Sòng Lán | Sòng Zǐchēn/Xiǎo Xīngchén,
Tags:  Extended Scene, no plot, just characters talking and hugging, sometimes you just want to see your favourite characters get a hug, this is not really a fix it, the only thing it fixes is that Xiao Xingchen gets a lot of hugs, Xiao Xingchen is lonely, Xiao Xingchen tries to make friends, Everyone Gets a Hug!, (except for Song Lan and Lan Wangji because they don’t like to be touched), (yes that includes Xue Yang!), ooops this has way more XueXiao than I initially intended, but I regret nothing, Gremlin being Gremlin, Enemies to ummm Romantic Enemies?, warning for some mild dub-con I guess because Xue Yang can’t behave, and warning for some blood and mild violence because Song Lan is standing right there
Summary:
They stood in silence, joined by their longing for the Mountain, so painfully out of their reach.
Xiao Xingchen looked at Wei Wuxian and saw him staring sadly into the ground at his feet. It made Xiao Xingchen want to hug him.
-
Xiao Xingchen gives Wei Wuxian a hug after their talk about Baoshan Sanren. Everything escalates from there.
An (extra) extended version of the farewell scene from Episode 10. With extra gratuitous hugs. And more Xue Yang being a little shit.
Notes:
so a while ago I saw and reblogged this post. and I was like “yesss XXC lonely! ughhhhh they should at least hug” and then it kinda escalated into a big hug farewell party and then it got some big XueXiao/SongXueXiao shenanigans in the second half of this fic because I am who I am.
I hope you’ll enjoy this 9.8k nonsense aka my personal addition to “Xiao Xingchen is touch starved” and “Xiao Xingchen is desperate to have friends” agendas
To repeat the warnings from the tags: some mild dub-con because  Xue Yang can’t behave. I went back and forth on whether what happens deserves that warning or not, but this fic might seem like it’s nice and sweet and I don’t want to unpleasantly surprise anyone, so keep it in mind that once we’ll get to XueXiao hug things will get a little messy (like everything where Xue Yang is involved lol) and I realize that Xiao Xingchen’s reaction might seem somewhat ambiguous (tho he’s mostly very confused). And some mild violence and blood (lots of blood!) because Xue Yang and Song Lan are in too close proximity to each other for this whole thing to end peacefully xD
In the fic Wei Wuxian calls Xiao Xingchen xiao-shishu which means “little sect uncle” and it’s indeed a pun.
Special thanks to @veliseraptor, my local Jiang Cheng expert, who gave me some advice on Jiang Cheng + hugs, and to chaoticjoy for the help with the Chinese terms.
All real dialogue from Episode 10 taken from Viki subtitles.

your headcanons about yi city squad's sleeping habits? are they early birds or night owls? do they sleep lightly? insomnia? do they dream a lot? do they remember their dreams? idk what else, just whatever thoughts you have
I love when people ask me a very specific headcanon question and I go "oooh yes I actually do have pretty well defined headcanons on this subject!" which really happens more than it probably should.
but since you asked.
I definitely think that Xue Yang specifically has...weird sleeping habits. he can fall asleep anywhere and very quickly, but he's also a very light sleeper who can wake up fast and be alert almost immediately. on the other hand I think he is far more likely to deal with insomnia than any of the other Yi City folks, on a fairly regular basis. and during those periods of time he will be awake for sometimes days straight before he finally crashes, and it is an absolute nightmare for everybody else because when Xue Yang is not sleeping he is inevitably not just lying there tossing and turning but up and doing things, bouncing off the walls, desperately in need of attention and stimulation.
Xue Yang says he gets his best work done when he can't sleep. it's not actually true but he certainly does get some of his weirdest work done when he can't sleep. I like to think about Jin Guangyao showing up and Xue Yang, awake for going on 48 hours, going "WANT TO SEE SOMETHING COOL" and showing him, like, some kind of grotesque monstrosity he put together in the middle of the night.
when it comes to dreams, I don't think Xue Yang tends to remember his. he has them, and sometimes he wakes up with leftover feelings from them, but he doesn't remember what they were.
Xiao Xingchen, on the other hand, I think has very vivid, very weird dreams and almost always remembers them. I think he also likes to share them, at least with close friends; definitely he always used to tell Song Lan about his dreams and whether or not they were actually interesting to hear Song Lan would always listen to him share them because Xiao Xingchen seems to enjoy it; Xue Yang will listen but interrupt to speculate wildly and absurdly on their meaning trying to make Xiao Xingchen laugh.
another sleep headcanon I have about Xiao Xingchen is that he loves to nap. if he does not have pressing duties he will just find a nice spot and go to sleep. it's one of his few self-indulgences that he really embraces. and he's very good at it! power-napper extraordinaire. find him lying in unexpected places fast asleep. he also tends to sleep cold, so if there are heat sources (sun, another person) he'll seek those out.
like Xue Yang, a-Qing can fall asleep anywhere and very quickly, and wake up fast, and it is (of course) for the same reason - she has to be able to rest when she gets the chance but also alert for dangers and able to respond quickly if they show up. she's a little less likely to just do it wherever, though; for Xue Yang it's almost flaunting how he doesn't have to worry about it anymore but a-Qing wants to have a nest. I feel like a-Qing's blankets never stay neat for long and if she was sharing a bed with someone she would end up with all the blankets securely wrapped around her to create a little a-Qing burrito.
I don't think she's much of a napper (and I think Xiao Xingchen's napping sometimes is a little bit of an 'ugh but now I'm bored' for her), and in general more of a night owl than a morning person. as far as dreams go, I think she also doesn't remember them most of the time but is also a very active dreamer, and every so often she'll remember truly wild ones - the kind of dreams that actually are fun to listen to and make you go "what the fuck is going on there" a little bit.
I think I talked at one point before how I think Song Lan when it comes to sleeping is someone for whom routine is very important. if he's going to sleep then he will have a set bed time and a set wake up time and he will keep those consistent. I don't think he tends to like to take naps; it makes him feel sluggy and kinda gross. I also think he'll do fine if he doesn't sleep for a while and it's worse for him if he sleeps off schedule.
as far as dreaming goes I'm going to curse him with my problem which is very vivid and very realistic dreams. they aren't interesting, they're spectacularly mundane, but they feel very real in the moment. I bet Song Lan has awful stress dreams. I just have a feeling. he is a little jealous of Xiao Xingchen's dreams. they sound like fun.
I think he does also have some trouble with insomnia now and again, but for him it is more just...vague restlessness/anxiety that keeps him up. he meditates through it but it does throw him off more than he'd like because, again, of the importance of routine.
like Xue Yang, a-Qing can fall asleep anywhere and very quickly, and wake up fast, and it is (of course) for the same reason - she has to be able to rest when she gets the chance but also alert for dangers and able to respond quickly if they show up. she's a little less likely to just do it wherever, though; for Xue Yang it's almost flaunting how he doesn't have to worry about it anymore but a-Qing wants to have a nest.
I feel like I probably could keep going but perhaps this is enough yi city sleep headcanons to be going on with for now

🗑⏱❤️
🗑 What is one fic idea that you loved at first but then scrapped?
Clint Barton during the events of Winter Soldier with a unit that turns on him as Hydra makes its move. I still love the idea but have no idea how to execute it.
⏰ What time of day do you prefer to write?
I don't think I have a preferred time, actually. Probably evening?
❤️ Who is your favorite character to write for and why?
At the moment, I'm really enjoying writing Xue Yang. His mind is just so different and it goes to the opposite place mine would every time, which is fun to play with. Mildmay has also been a favorite because he's constantly making allusions to stories and legends that don't exist in our world, which gives me a lot of freedom to play around with folktale-esque characters.
