⭐ Name: Sandra, but you can tell me Sandy 😉.
⭐Age: I feel like I'm 15 years old, I stopped counting at 19 and my friends say that I act like I'm 5 years old XD hahaha ... Nah! I just turned 23 years old this August n_n.
💔 Occupation: Being a universitary girl XD ... Yes! It's so fun! (sarcasm).
🩷 Some things that I love it: Read (I read all kinds of books and about my favorite ships on Ao3! 🤭), cook desserts, listen to music while I do other activities like my homework or when I read, Greek mythology (The love between us will never die! 💗).
⭐Saint Seiya (or Knights of the Zodiac). I found this beautiful serie when I was 7 years old. My favorite is the original serie, although I also like the Lost Canvas a lot and Episode G (because Aioria is the protagonist). Soul of Gold gives me mixed feelings. From Omega and Next Dimension, better don't ask me; my mind lives in denial. My favorite characters are the Golden Saints, especially Aioros and Aioria, being Aioria my super favorite.
Thanks to Saint Seiya I developed a great love for the stars 💫 and I have many scientific books on the subject, as well as books of myths and legends about the constellations ✨.
💥 I'm a Marvel Girl. I love those tormented superheroes and antiheroes. I basically grew up watching Marvel since Iron Man came out in 2008 and I immersed myself fully in the world of the comics, I have a lot of comics and books on my bookshelf 🤭. My favorites are: Iron Man ♥️, Captain America, Spider-Man, Loki, the X-Men, Black Widow and Scarlet Witch, in all their presentations and with all their charms and defects!.
🍿Series: Friends, Full House, The big bang theory, How I met your mother and How I met your father, Modern Family, Mom, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel... I love it K-Dramas like Goblin: The lonely and great God, Crash landing on you, Tale of the Nine Tailed 😋, I have also watched many animes like Sailor Moon, Ouran High School Host Club, Toradora, Code Geass, Inuyasha, Kaleido Star, Shaman King, Attack on Titan... it's a long list and I don't remember everything at this moment 🤔. Miraculous Ladybug (I know it's for kids, but ... there is Chat Noir 🖤).
🐉In my House of the Dragon era 🖤: Like many people, I was also terribly disappointed with the horrible ending of Game of Thrones, but I really loved Fire and Blood when I read it in 2020... so I decided to give the serie a chance when I saw the first trailer... and I don't regret it! 🥳. I liked Daemon and Rhaenyra so much in the book and absolutely loved them in the TV Show! (Matt and Emma are incredible! ❣️). Another character that I loved in the book and the one I always wanted to know more about was Jacaerys Velaryon and I must say that I am very pleased with the choice of Harry Collett 😍 (oh yeah baby! 🔥).
I really hope that the directors and writers do justice to this wonderful crown prince! 🥰, because for me he is already one of my favorite characters of all time! ❣️.
🎥 Favorite Movies: Troy 2004 (did I mention I'm a Greek mythology lover?), the Star Wars saga 💫 (1-6 only), The Great Gatsby, A Walk to Remember, Harry Potter 🪄 (books and movies), The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy, The Hunger Games saga ❣️(books and movies), The Twilight saga 😊 (books and movies).
I love Studio Ghibli movies with all my heart 💗 since my dad bought me the movie of Kiki Delivery Service when I was a 6-year-old little girl.
I love everything Disney and Pixar does 💗😘. (think of the happiest things, It's the same as having wings! 🎶)
🎧 Music: I have a very varied taste in music, some would say strange 😅, but if I like the rhythm and lyrics of the song I will surely add it to my playlist (mainly I like rock), AC / DC, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Imagine Dragons, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Lana del Rey, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. I enjoy classical music too 🩷.
⭐ Something more about me: I am an inveterate dreamer and extremely perfectionist. I express myself better by writing than talking 😚.
I haven't drawn anything in almost 5 years and when I did I used to draw with traditional media (watercolor, charcoal, colored pencils, gouche and acrylic paints 🖌️).
But since October (from last year), when I saw Harry Collett as Prince Jacaerys, I felt a desire to draw that I hadn't felt in a long time ❣️.
This is my first time trying to draw in digital media, I hope you like what you see! 😘 (YouTube tutorials don't fail me now! 😭). I spent the whole summer practicing🥺.

Reception
Critical reception
Michael Austin of CBR.com stated, "Not only is the mainstream Jessica Drew incredibly cool, but her Ultimate universe counterpart is also an equally impressive character as well. This Jessica Drew is actually a female clone of Peter Parker. The character debuted during the Ultimate Marvel version of the Clone Saga. While the original Clone Saga is hotly debated as possibly one of the worst Spider-Man arcs of all time, the Ultimate universe counterpart was received much better, and it was thanks to great characters like the Ultimate Jessica Drew." Jamie Lovett of Comicbook.com asserted, "The other alterante universe clone that needs honorable mentioning here come's from Marvel's own Ultimate Universe. The ultimate universe Jessica Drew is a female clone of Peter Parker, kind of like how X-23 is a female clone of Wolverine, except that Jessica presents as approximately the same age as Peter. The Ultimate "Clone Saga" is a much better more cohesive story than the original "Clone Saga," and Ultimate Jessica Drew's introduction is part of that. Watching her and Peter Parker try to figure out exactly what's going on when they first meet is a brilliant moment. Jessica Drew eventually joined the Ultimates and took on the persona of the new Black Widow before the Ultimate Universe finally came to its Ultimate End. Weirdly enough, the female clone origin for Ultimate Spider-Woman makes more sense than the origin of the original Marvel Universe Spider-Woman, which had to do with her father saving her life by injecting her with experimental spider-blood, and has no direct connection to Peter Parker at all. This is a great case of the Ultimate Universe doing what it set out to do - modernizing and streamlining classic Marvel Universe characters." Alyssa Gawaran of MovieWeb said, "If the multiverse has taught us anything, there is an endless amount of variants of our favorite superheroes out there. Therefore, you should not be surprised that there is a woman clone of our beloved Peter Parker that is out and about in the Marvel Comics — and she's a lesbian! Jessica Drew, better known as Ultimate Spider-Woman, is a hero found in the All-New Ultimates series for Marvel. She ends up taking on the Black Widow legacy and has her very own 'coming out' moment in All-New Ultimates #4. The Spider-Verse is still expanding, and Jessica Drew would be a very fitting addition."
Accolades

In 2017, Screen Rant ranked Jessica Drew 3rd in their "Every Spider-Man Clone" list.

Day 6 Reveals!
Been Meaning to Tell You (Julie and The Phantoms (TV 2020)) written by nineofhearts, performed by roseszain Summary: In high school, Willie and Alex are friends. Not friends in the “we hangout one on one all of the time outside of school” sense, but friends in the “we spend lots of time together at school one on one and sometimes we hangout with a group outside of school” type friends. Now, 6 years after graduation they’re both out of college. They’ve fallen out of touch (college, boys, life caused them to drift). Willie is a pro skater in LA, Alex and Sunset Curve are based in NYC and are just starting to really “make it”. In other words, Willie and Alex re-enter each other’s orbits 6 years post-high school graduation and there are definitely feelings in the air. Lonely Boy ~ Shiba Inu (TOMORROW X TOGETHER | TXT (Korea Band)) written by Asterhythm, performed by cobbie Summary: Take a blender. Mix equal parts Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, and Macross (particularly Frontier). This time, however, the seclusion only lasts 7 days. To what lengths will Mo Ran go to heal Chu Wanning's core once he figures out a way to help? Snippet: Chu Wanning entered seclusion after the Cold Food Festival. Every few years, he secluded himself for ten days to tend to his golden core, which was still damaged even so many years later. Mo Ran set to preparing their small cottage for Chu Wanning's return—polishing furniture, weeding the garden, dusting hard-to-reach corners. It was unusual for them to spend more than a few days apart, so he busied himself during the day to stave off the loneliness. Did you hear what Father did? (Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor (Movies)) written by Cail_Jei, performed by Drel_Murn So many stories of where I've been and how I got to where I am (Wiedźmin | The Witcher - All Media Types, Wiedźmin | The Witcher (Video Game)) written by JuneOokami, performed by Wereflamingo Summary: Ciri likes to hear stories from her three guardians, especially when it's bedtime. On either side, actually. Maybe there’s a better one at the bottom, but I wouldn’t count on it. And welcome to our special guest, the irreplaceable Max. Max: We both know I’m only here because Featherstone has a date night with Adele Monsterfuckers AƧSEMBLE: an AᗺBA tribute album (Multifandom) written and produced by carboncopies and olive2read, performed by carboncopies Summary: Many years ago, Brian David Gilbert made a shocking revelation about a famous Swedish pop group. With very little alteration, nearly all of their hits could be performed by Halloween villains. Frightened of what he learned, Brian buried his discovery in the dark recesses of his mind and swore to never share it with the world. Until October 2021… Following the publication of this breakthrough, carboncopies and olive2read were hit with another, even more startling, realisation. While a few of AᗺBA’s songs may have been written by Halloween monsters, many were written by monsterFUCKERS. This monsterfucking team has spent the summer painstakingly peeling back the layers to uncover the truth behind the sweet disco beats and seemingly innocuous lyrics. And what a glorious truth it is! A call to action! Monsterfuckers AƧSEMBLE! Hues (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, A Stitch in Time - Andrew J. Robinson) created by BardicRaven and RisalSoran Summary: Color, like Truth, sometimes has sharp edges and clearly-defined borders. And sometimes, it does not.

Black Panther: Wakanda Eternally: The First Trailer, Cast, Plot & Extra
By October, Coogler had closed a deal to write and direct a sequel to Black Panther. Despite both Marvel and Coogler having at all times meant to work together once more after the first film's success, Coogler averted speeding into a deal. Negotiations with Coogler have been completed "underneath the radar" within the months following the first film's launch.
Film Particulars
The nation of Wakanda is pitted in opposition to intervening world powers as they mourn the lack of their king T'Challa. In September 2021, it was revealed that Ludwig Göransson was set to return as composer for the sequel. Opening with a soft cowl of Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" that slowly morphs to Kendrick Lamar's "Alright," Wakanda Forever's preview seems to catch up with a nation in mourning. Now, we still do not know the way Wakanda Forever will pay tribute to Boseman and T'Challa, however Coogler and company will surely deal with the loss with the respect he deserves. In the preview, we briefly glimpse T'Challa's face etched on the facet of a building. Dorothy Steel, who portrayed the Wakandan Merchant Tribe elder within the first movie, died on October 15; she was in the course of reprising her function for the sequel when she died. Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M'Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight to guard their nation from intervening world powers within the wake of King T'Challa's dying. As the Wakandans attempt to embrace their next chapter, the heroes should band together with Nakia and Everett Ross to forge a new path for his or her beloved kingdom.
Angela Bassettramonda
New to the forged are I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel and UFC champion Kamaru Usman, though their roles have yet to be confirmed. Dominique Thorne will make her MCU debut as Riri Williams, aka Ironheart. That's a transfer of four months from July 2022, and the sequel takes the unique place of The Marvels, which has now moved again to July 2023. While nothing is about in stone, we hope this will be the final shift for the film. Four days later, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the production of the movie had been delayed because several forged and crew members, including Lupita Nyong'o, had examined optimistic for COVID-19. On November 19, 2021, Deadline reported that the manufacturing of the film had officially been shut down briefly. On July 12, 2021, in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Kevin Feige revealed that Joe Robert Cole had returned to co-write the film's script. On June 29, 2021, through the Black Widow world premiere fan event, Kevin Feige announced that the film had started manufacturing in Atlanta. The next day, Discussing Film reported that Autumn Durald had joined the movie because the cinematographer. We advise caution when coping with any recently-released media involving multiversal topics.
Official Teaser
On November 7, 2021, it was reported that Lake Bell had joined the forged of the film in an undisclosed position. Three days later, it was reported that Becky Lynch had joined the forged of the movie in an undisclosed position. On September 19, 2021, Collider reported that Tenoch Huerta had joined the forged of the film in an undisclosed position. Black Panther: Wakanda Eternally Trailer: Black Panther: Wakanda Eternally Teaser Trailer 1 He factors to the sequel's use of water and the color blue, as nicely as a swap from using spherical digital camera lenses to anamorphic ones. For Namor himself, Coogler says he wanted to embrace the character's iconic look — proper all the method down to those signature ankle wings. "I assume with making these varieties of movies, you've got to lean into the weird stuff, otherwise you threat missing what makes it enjoyable," Coogler says with a smile. "I needed to discover a method that I felt like I might hold going and a way that our Black Panther family might maintain going," Coogler explains. With the passing of the inimitable Chadwick Boseman from colon cancer in 2020, all of fandom was staggered by his loss. Moreover, we assumed there merely couldn't be a new Black Panther film, despite how culturally necessary the #WakandaForever phenomenon was at the time, and has been since.

Coogler stated that he could really feel Boseman's hand, still, chatting with the gang last night time. To hear Coogler and Wakanda Forever's solid discuss Boseman and the 2018 Best Picture nominee would've been sufficient. Of course, although, provided that Wakanda Forever is ready for a November eleven release, Coogler treated followers to the movie's first trailer. The latest look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, which debuts on November eleven, reemphasizes the concentrate on the late Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. As we glimpse what appears to be a funeral for the king, we're reminded that Wakanda Forever will show us a grieving nation.
Jimmie Allen On His Impact On Nation Music: “i’m Including My Sound”
It appears to indicate a feminine figure in a model new Black Panther swimsuit, prompting hypothesis that Shuri, Nakia, or Okoye could be behind the masks. watch Black Panther Wakanda Forever online contains a nearer look at Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, the ruler of Atlantis and the film’s major antagonist, and Dominique Thorne’s debut as Ironheart, before she headlines her personal Disney+ sequence in 2023. Coogler told a loving story about his final time at Comic-Con, when he showed the first footage of 2018's Black Panther to a rapturous viewers. Part author, part animator, half musician, half illustrator, part programmer, part entrepreneur – all geek. Resident Spider-Man skilled, official Leslie Knope, truly Yelena Belova. We don’t know too much about what Namor goes to do in the film however having him as part of the MCU is thrilling. I simply am excited about what his character is going to do to Wakanda and the model new Black Panther. In the newest trailer for Coogler’s film, we get to see more of the place Wakanda is after the lack of T’Challa and the way those closest to him are coping. We obtained to see more of Riri Williams, which I loved, and seeing a model new Black Panther rise as the trailer went on was both exciting and nonetheless made me nervous for Wakanda as they face off in opposition to Namor. That signifies that Letitia Wright is back as Shuri, Danai Gurira is Okoye, Angela Bassett is Ramonda, Winston Duke is M’Baku, Martin Freeman is Everett Ross, and extra. The new trailer exhibits is a more action-packed look at the movie than the emotive first reveal. Most notably, we get a look at the brand new suit for a feminine Black Panther .

Questions from @no1islost 's post
Ten Fun Tumblr Facts
1. Username Meaning:
cntrpt — 2020, me trying to come up with a nickname; I was watching She-Ra and the Princesses of Power at the time, so I took out the vowels from my fav's name (Entrapta), put the first letter of my name in front of it and said it works. Yes, I'm perfectly aware it looks strange and random. It's because it is.
BlackBelladonna — 'Black' from Black Widow, 'Belladonna' from RWBY; those were the two main fandoms I was in when I finally decided to sign up to AO3 (still are, but--)
2. Are you new or a Tumblr veteran?
I've joined a couple of years ago maybe, so I guess pretty new. I didn't really use it regularly for the first months though
4. Do you have any other Tumblrs?
Nope, I don't think I could handle it, too much commitment😂
5. What are you currently listening to?
The Loneliest by Måneskin, it was everywhere last week and it got stuck in my head
6. What is the theme of your Tumblr?
Mostly random stuff from the fandoms I'm in + things I find relatable + literally whatever
7. How many followers do you have/how many do you follow?
Followers not many, and I'm pretty sure 1/4 of it are bots and another 1/4 started following me by accident, since this is not a blog focused on anything in particular lol
Following honestly even less, around 30, but occasionally I get inspired and start following some new blogs in a row
8. A message for your followers?
Why do you even follow m- ok no, well, if you want/need to talk about literally anything, anonymously or not, I'm always up for it! If you're worried about not knowing what to say or for it to be awkward, trust me, it can always become worse, but I'll try my best <3
9. Favorite blog you follow?
The ones I've talked to🥰 Then there are some art ones, but really, I care more about the people than the blog itself, that's also why I follow so few. If I start following someone only for the posts, and then they stop making that specific kind of content, I would feel bad to unfollow :')
10. Favorite thing about your Tumblr?
It's a place where I can talk about whatever is on my mind, and there's no pressure in doing literally anything. We don't see the number of followers of others or if they are or not online, it's like everyone is simply existing in their own bubble while still being willing to share it. Sometimes other people enter your bubble and sometimes they don't, but there's no way of being always aware of that, so whatever happens, happens, you just have to keep doing what you like

Just recently, Disney has revised the schedule for the upcoming Phase 4 MCU movies in the next 4 years under Marvel Studios. There’s not much change though, but a bigger one for sure. Because one film has been dropped/postponed from the earlier planned release dates’ list. Although there have been no any exact details from Disney regarding which MCU film has been postponed from its previously announced (or fixed) date, strong rumors and speculations are believing it’s the Guardians of the Galaxy 3! In the year 2020, earlier where there were three MCU films going to be released, now there will be only two. The July 31st, 2020 slot has been canceled. And rumors have it, that it was in fact ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ movie. Since the firing of James Gunn, Marvel Studios has not confirmed any name for the new director on the project, which implies that this film will surely take more time now to get completed and eventually arrive in theaters. Now the slightly revised new release dates, for Disney’s MCU flicks, are the following. You might want to note them down, so just do it highly recommended. Must Read: TOP 7 HOLLYWOOD MOVIES BASED ON MAGIC AND ILLUSION The YEAR 2019 Captain Marvel: March 8 Avengers 4 Untitled: May 3 *Spider-Man: Far From Home: July 5 (It comes under Sony) The YEAR 2020 Untitled Marvel: May 1 Untitled Marvel (maybe Doctor Strange 2): November 6 The YEAR 2021 Untitled Marvel (maybe Black Panther 2): February 12 Untitled Marvel: May 7 Untitled Marvel: November 5 The YEAR 2022 Untitled Marvel: February 18 Untitled Marvel: May 6 Untitled Marvel: July 29 Some rumors also suggest that the slot of May 7, 2021, may turn out to be for Black Widow solo movie! Because it has a director too, in Cate Shortland. And there are predictions and strong speculations about the X-Men entering into the MCU officially, in one of the movie slots of 2021 itself which is November 5th, 2021. Who knows! Must Read: WATCH: The Curse of La Llorona Trailer will give you shivers Many amazing and extravagant things will happen in MCU’s phase 4 and we can only wait at this moment. In the meantime keep guessing the title of Avengers 4.

Marvel Pitstop: A Look Back at the MCU’s Phase Four - Movies
Tumblr media
Before we see the start of the middle part of the Multiverse Saga in MCU’s Phase Five first film Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we take a pitstop of sorts.  A look back at Phase Four.
It has felt like a lifetime since the conclusion of Marvel’s Infinity Saga in 2019 with the finale Avengers: Endgame and its epilogue Spider-Man: Far From Home.  Marvel took an unplanned break in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, pausing some productions and leading to a packed slate.  It seemed like from the release of WandaVision in mid-January 2021 all the way to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in November 2022, there was an almost non-stop stream of Marvel content, to varying results.
It was revealed back in July at the San Diego Comic Con that Phase Four would end with Wakanda Forever and Phases Five and Six will all run through 2025 and culminate in back to back Avengers movies: Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.  So this will be a two part post going over Phase Four, first the feature films and then the Disney+ television series's.
SPOILER WARNING, I probably won’t spoil the whole thing but since I’ll be going over all of the releases there will be some degree of spoilers.  I’ll go over a little synopsis, best performances, and best episode of the series for the shows or best scene for the movies.
We’ll start with the movies.
MOVIES
There are a few I already reviewed here.  I won’t copy those, I’ll just let you know if I did or not under the movie.  There were a couple of great ones here and then the rest of mixed results.
Tumblr media
Black Widow - Released July 9, 2021 the Meat Life Rating - 7/10
I didn’t review this one fully.  I feel like this was a solid entry but was released too late.  If this were release around the time when the story actually takes place (sometime between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War), it probably would have hit different and been more effective.  But since we know she survives the events of the movie and dies later on in the MCU timeline, the stakes are impacted and kind of muted.  Still a pretty entertaining movie.  It takes a look at Natasha Romanov on the run while dealing with her past as a Russian spy-weapon and the fake family of spies she grew up with in America.  Probably the weakest part of the movie was Natasha and her found family taking down the airborne Red Room and villain head of the Red Room Dreykov.  The ending scenes seemed too reminiscent of the ending scenes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  I also rerated this slightly down from 7.5 to 7 from my initial review.
Best Performance - Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova This was Pugh’s debut in the MCU.  As stated in Hawkeye, Pugh steals the show.  And that’s hard to do because of solid performances from Scarlet Johannson’s lead character, David Harbour’s hilarious performance of Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz’s performance of Melina Vostokoff.  Pugh’s charm electrifies the movie, especially when she makes fun of the Black Widow stance.
Best Scene - The Vostokoff Farm After Belova and Romanov break the Red Guardian out of jail and their plane runs out of fuel, the three head to find Vostokoff at her farm outside St Petersburg.  We see the dysfunctional family dynamic of the four while they have dinner.  Although they were put together and weren’t blood family, you could tell by the banter and emotional argument that they were a found-family that were heartbreakingly broken apart years before.
Tumblr media
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - Released September 3, 2021 the Meat Life Rating - 8/10
Briefly reviewed here.
Best Performance - Tony Leung as Xu Wenwu This cast is stacked with relative newcomer Simu Liu as the title character, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s BFF Katy, Michelle Yeoh as Shang-Chi’s aunt Ying Nan, and Ben Kingsley reprieving his role as actor Trevor Slattery.  But the Hong Kong film legend Leung is the best.  He makes his villain character Wenwu - Shang-Chi
Best Scene - The Skyscraper Fight There’s lots to choose from here.  I love the interaction between Shawn and Katy so whenever it is just them cooking I love watching it.  There are also a lot of really good set pieces here from the Jackie Chan tribute bus fight to the end showdown in Ta Lo.  But the best scene is the skyscraper fight in Macau.  The running and tumbling in the scaffolding and the sparing off the side of the building are awesome.
Tumblr media
Eternals - Released November 5, 2021 the Meat Life Rating - 6/10
From Academy Award winning director Chloe Zhao staring the likes of Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Selma Hayek, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani and Brian Tyree Henry among others, this seems like it sets up to be a slam dunk, right?  Maybe a prestigy spin on Marvel?  Well, although it was the lowest domestic grossing MCU movie since 2008′s The Incredible Hulk and mostly panned by critics, this one isn’t as bad as they say it is.  What didn’t help a lot of these Phase Four movies is that Marvel’s standard was raised coming out of Infinity War/Endgame in the Infinity Saga.  But people soon forget about Captain Marvel and how out of place that film felt coming out between the big Avengers movies.  Anyway, as for as this movie, the Eternals follows a group of immortal alien beings as they protect the Earth since ancient times against threats from other alien creatures known as Deviants.  There is a twist in the middle of the film that I’ll leave you to experience.  The vibe of the film felt more closer to the DC’s SnyderVerse, maybe because this film’s approach felt more serious than typical MCU fare (there are even references to DC characters Batman and Superman in a couple instances in the film).  If you have an open couple hours you aren’t doing anything, worth a look at this movie.  It’s not great but not as bad as people made it out to be upon its initial release.  But I don’t think this will end up being vital to the MCU experience and overall storyline going forward.
Best Performance - Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos A lot of the acting in this movie is a little uneven, but probably because of the uneven material.  But I do enjoy a lot of the comic relief that Brian Tyree Henry provides in a couple of his scenes and being in Marvel’s first same sex couple.  And being the tech guy on the Eternals crew talks to me.
Best Scene - The London Deviant Sighting The Amazon scene is also a solid.  But the first Deviant sighting in London was great.  You get suspense/horror vibes when the Deviant is in the water following Sersi, Dane, and Sprite.  And then when it comes out and fights Ikaris, we get to see the reveal of Sersi’s powers.  Sersi turning a double-decker bus into rose petals as it is about to fall on her looks spectacular.
Tumblr media
Spider-Man: No Way Home - Released December 17, 2021 the Meat Life Rating - 8/10
Briefly reviewed here.  I originally rated this movie 9/10.  But I adjusted it down to an 8.  Still a great and enjoyable film, but I think probably an overreaction a bit when I first watched.
Best Performance - Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin Some great performances from Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei.  But Dafoe steals the movie and becomes a great Big Bad in the movie.  Psycho Osborn builds off of his original Spider-Man performance and gives a chilling villain.
Best Scene - Happy’s Apartment Showdown As cool as it is when the Tobey and Andrew Spider-Men come in and as cool as it is to see them fight together, the MCU Spidey taking on the snapped Green Goblin takes the trophy.  Just Dafoe’s still face laughing as Holland’s Spider-Man is pummeling him is so creepy.  And then, as controversial as it is, Aunt May’s death is very impactful and gives stakes to this movie.
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - Released May 6, 2022 the Meat Life Rating - 7/10
It is interesting to think that this was actually originally slated before Wandavision and Spider-Man: No Way Home and had to be reworked a ton due to shifts in the scheduling caused by the pandemic.  It would be interesting to see what this movie would have been before they had to rework.  Instead we got a movie that changed directors midway through production from the first Doctor Strange director Scott Dickerson to cult horror film legend Sam Raimi.  And you can kind of tell a bit by the vibe and style of some of the scenes who directed what.  In any event, this was an entertaining entry.  Doctor Strange has to protect America Chavez from Wanda Maximoff.  America has a special power to jump between multiverses and Wanda is wanting to take that power in order to reunite with her two sons who were disappeared at the end of Wandavision.  I love Elizabeth Olsen, and I think Marvel did her Wanda character dirty.  While she started as a villain of sorts in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she had become a hero over the years through Avengers: Endgame.  And while she was a bit of a character on edge in Wandavision, I didn’t really like that she was turned full villain in this one.
Best Performance - Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez As against the villain turn as I am, Elizabeth Olsen was solid in her Wanda role.  Benedict Cumberbatch is always solid.  I wish we got more out of Chiwetel Ejoifor.  While it was cool to briefly see John Krasinski as Reed Richards and Patrick Stewart as a version of Professor Xavier (both probably trolling fans) as well as seeing Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, I think the best performance is from Xochiti Gomez as America Chavez.  She was the best part of this movie and gave that teenage wonder and injected it in this movie.
Best Scene - Zombie Strange in the Climax Fight Scene The opening scene where America and a version of Strange is being chased between universes by a demon was cool.  Obviously the Illuminati scene on Earth-838 was cool to see with Wanda mowing down each of them.  But probably the chaos of the last act was probably the best.  From the music note fight between Strange Prime and Apocalypse Strange was cool and then Strange tapping into Dead Strange from the beginning to fight Wanda to save America was great.  Solid Raimi stuff.
Tumblr media
Thor: Love and Thunder - Released July 8, 2022 the Meat Life Rating - 7/10
I think the best way to describe this entry of Thor is Ragnarok off the rails.  This is director Taika Waititi throwing everything at the screen.  While most lands, some are a little over the top.  This is a fun movie but can we really believe Thor to grow dumber and more dude-bro-y after the trauma and emotional weight of Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame?  In any event, we follow Thor Odonson as he navigates to stop Gorr, the God Butcher from killing Gods across the realms.  Along the way he teams up with the now King Valkyrie and Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor.  While some of the comic scenes go on a bit longer than they probably should to still be funny, this is a fun ride.
Best Performance - Christian Bale as Gorr, the God Butcher It was great to see Natalie Portman (always great to see Portman in ANYTHING), and it was a nice cameo for the Guardians.  I like Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth is funny for the most part.  You also get a scene-stealing performance from Russell Crowe as Zeus.  But I got to give this to Christian Bale, who is performing almost like he’s in a different movie.  He gives the emotional weight and places Gorr in one of the better villains in the MCU.
Best Scene - Omnipotence City There are some touching Jane Foster scenes where you see her character’s struggle with cancer.  There is also an awesome monochromatic scene where our heroes chase down Gorr in the Shadow Realm.  But my favorite scene is probably on Omnipotence City and their interaction and ultimately fight with Zeus and the other Gods.  I know I said some of the comedic scenes in this movie go on longer than they probably should, but I could watch more of Omnipotence City.
Tumblr media
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Released November 11, 2022 the Meat Life Rating - 8/10
It was pretty hard for me to rate this film.  On the one side, it is a poignant and touching tribute to their fallen friend in Chadwick Boseman-T’Challa and a story about loss and how to process that while moving forward with life.  Those aspects were among the best in the MCU as a whole and probably some of the best moments of the year in cinema.  On the other hand, some things felt out of place - but in the larger MCU sense are necessary to propel the larger storyline outside of this movie.  The Everett Ross and Valentina portions of the film in particular feel largely out of place, especially since most of the storyline was between the nations of Wakanda and Talokan and the power struggle between Shuri and Namor.  I will say, standard MCU stuff aside, this is a great and moving film.  It is beautiful and hard to watch at the same time.  Very emotionally heavy and effective movie.  And stay for the mid-credits for probably the best credit scene that could have come from the MCU.  If we remove the Ross/Valentina stuff, this movie is probably closer to a 9.
Best Performance - Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda There is a reason why Angela Bassett is honored with the MCU’s first Oscar acting nomination for Best Supporting Actress.  Bassett kills it.  The quality of the material behind dealing with loss and trying to help her daughter get through that same loss does help.  There are other great performances including Tenoch Huerta’s portrayal of Namor and Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther.  But Bassett’s performance takes the film to another level emotionally.
Best Scene - The Mid-Credit Scene There are a lot of great scenes from the film from the Okoye bridge fight, the talking scenes between Shuri and Namor, and anything Angela Bassett is in are all great.  But this movie is about loss and moving forward from that loss, and nothing is more poignant in this than the mid-credit scene.  Nakia reveals to Shuri that Nakia and T’Challa had a child before his untimely death, a child that they also named T’Challa.  The scene is so touching and had me weeping in the theater.  Kind of wish they just had this as the primary ending to the movie rather than a mid-credit scene, it’s that good.

Nikki Lane & Jaime Wyatt Live Preview: 12/14, Evanston SPACE
Tumblr media
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Nikki Lane updates Cher’s “Mom, I am a rich man” on her latest and best album: “I’m going my way, livin’ and dyin’ / And I can buy my own damn denim and diamonds.” Throughout Denim & Diamonds (New West), the Highway Queen reflects on her past, present, and future, weaving tales of independence with boisterous rock and roll. The high school dropout-turned fashion designer-turned vintage Western wear shop owner and operator wears tumult like earned badges. On “Born Tough”, she sets the stage as a “big-hearted girl” in “a man’s world,” divorced “by the age of twenty-nine,” delivered over arena rock drum fills and monster hooks. “Black Widow” lays down an outlaw with whom Lane likely feels kinship: “Full metal woman in a thrift store jacket / Runnin’ Tulsa to San Antone / Making bad decisions / Don’t need no permission / If she wants to get a little stoned.” And in contrast to the platitudes of songs like “Try Harder” and “Live/Love”, a trotting song like “Good Enough” features Lane’s strongest songwriting to date. “Patience is a virtue,” she sings, making you think she’s going to provide us with another mantra, before deftly subverting traditional Americana imagery: “Battered up and beaten by the road that horse has traveled / And I’ve rode so far my rope has come unraveled in the rain.”
For her first full-length in 5 years, Lane sought the assistance of Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, admittedly a head-scratching choice considering his recent history of legal troubles, including domestic violence allegations from his ex-wife Brody Dalle. I still think Denim & Diamonds is worth listening to, and that it’s certainly worth paying to see Lane live, as, in my mind, she didn’t need him or any of his band members to bolster her pop or rock chops. (After all, this is someone who’s already co-written with Lana Del Rey and sung backup vocals for Spiritualized.) Matt Pynn’s pedal steel wouldn’t be as affecting on “Faded”, nor Alain Johannes’ nylon string guitar on “Chimayo”, without Lane’s longing vocal turns. With every album, Lane is widening her reach; soon, she’ll be the one folks reach to in order to help shape their sound.

Opening for Lane tonight at SPACE and rendering it one of the best country bills of the year is singer-songwriter Jaime Wyatt, still riding strong off of her excellent 2020 album Neon Cross (New West). Wyatt grew up on country and folk and entered the music industry as a teenager but ended up addicted to hard drugs and spent jail time after robbing her drug dealer. Her marriage ended after serving 8 months, and when her father passed away, she relapsed. A lot of these hard times informed 2017′s Felony Blues; her further recovery and coming out as queer informed Neon Cross, from its instant classic title track to the somber version of Dax Riggs’ “Demon Tied to a Chair in My Brain”. I can’t wait to hear what Wyatt does next. Maybe she’ll play something new tonight? Fingers-crossed.
Tickets still available at the time of publication. Doors at 7:00 P.M., show at 8.
