Sending well-wishes on financial security, job & housing stability as well as affluence for Black People in 2024. Genuinely pray we get what we’re sought out for as individuals in these regards. Work hard to work wise — as opposed to working strenuously and nonstop to pay bills. We deserve better; we’re owed so much more. I can finally say I know what I’m working for now that I have a vision & fundamental plan to achieve what I want in life. And while it’s not much I desire, it’s something I’ll have to be diligent & patient in my efforts to receive anyhow. I’m ok w that. I’m willing to work for that. I want clarity and purpose for all of us. Don’t work for nothing. Don’t work just to work. I hope we find spaces for ourselves, w room to cultivate skills and value we can take anywhere. Here’s to fresh starts; here’s to moving w purpose; here’s to securing our futures & negating our pasts.
Fuck 2023; it was what it was — & I know it was rough. For a lot of us. Do not, waste your time.

Weight loss Milestones @ 5'5'' (165cm)
CW- 223.3 lbs
210 - I'll be 30 lbs down from my highest recorded weight
199 - No longer in the 200's!
180 - The weight I was starting at during my first weight loss journey
155 - I felt okay at this size but I wanted to lose more
140 - Where I want to be
Believe me, I am well aware that numbers are not everything! They will not indicate how I am going to feel or predict how my body is going to look like. Ultimately, the non scale victories are what I'm focusing my progress on.

Wellness Wednesdays
Tumblr media
Clinical Associate Professor Ruth White points to the phenomenon of criminalization of African American behavior which she frames within the context of American Justice system. 13% of the adult population is black in the U.S. and 33% of them are sentenced to prison + they get more police brutality than white people meanwhile white people who make up 61% of the adult population, only 30% of them are imprisoned. If an African American person with a mental illness (example: schizophrenia) acts out violently, they're in a much higher chance to get criminalized than to be given a mental health care...that is horrible...and of course this stoked the fear in the black community and caused an even more rejection of getting mental health care fearing they might get harsh legal repercussions. Now Ruth has said 'As a country, we need to make meaningful policy changes that will increase mental health care Access for people of color so fewer African Americans will go without the treatment they need'.
Source:
Please if you do suffer from mental illnesses or have intrusive thoughts please reach out and talk to people and get help...I know it's easier said than done...but they can help you or at least try to help... people care about you...you can't hide it for long because just like dry ice inside the plastic bottle... your emotions will explode.

trans women are everywhere and are so eager to be seen and heard but only if they feel safe around you. if you hardly ever have trans women interacting with you, especially online, then consider there might be a reason for that and you should address it

100 Days of mindfulness: The journey to living intentionally
Decided to commit to shifting my mindset from a place of lack and take the steps to living a fulfilling life. Usually I try to plan every detail but this time the only rule is to practice at least one mindful activity a day. I decided to add a date so that I can feel like I followed through with something.
Day 1
Defined what mindfulness means to me:
Slowing down and being present in the moment without getting caught up in the distractions around me.
This means paying attention to my thoughts, feelings and surroundings without getting caught up in them
Being aware of my inner experiences and the world around me in a non judgmental way.
Defined the life areas I want to incorporate more mindful practices:
Finances
Wellness
Career
Spiritual
Decided on what I wanted to gain from this experience:
Find balance, improve consistency and develop healthy habits
Improve my relationship with myself and learn to appreciate life
Created a list of ideas for mindful activities:
Journalling
Reading more
Monthly challenges
Made a commitment to follow through and take the steps to living a fulfilling life. So cheers to self love and taking things 1 day at a time!

Black Wellness at the Crossroads: Financial, Holistic, and Beyond
Tumblr media
Navigating the modern world as a black woman comes with a unique set of challenges and experiences. Each facet of our lives – be it financial, emotional, physical, or spiritual – often intersects, creating a complex web of considerations and influences. At the heart of this intersection lies black wellness, a term that encompasses more than just physical health. It’s a holistic vision that includes our financial stability, mental well-being, and the myriad other factors that shape our journey. Let’s dive into this intricate dance between black wellness, financial wellness, and holistic well-being.
Black Wellness: A Tapestry of Strength and Vulnerability
At the core, black wellness is about acknowledging the resilience and strength of black women while simultaneously recognizing our vulnerabilities and needs. It’s understanding that while we often play the role of the caregiver, the nurturer, and the pillar, we too need spaces of healing, understanding, and growth. This multifaceted wellness is not just about the absence of illness; it’s about thriving in every dimension of life.
Financial Wellness
The Backbone of Security
In the intricate landscape of black wellness, financial health holds a special place. Money, while just a tool, influences many aspects of our lives, from the quality of healthcare we can access to the neighborhoods we live in and the opportunities we can provide for our children. But financial wellness for black women isn’t just about having savings or being debt-free. It’s about breaking generational cycles, creating legacies, and navigating a system that hasn’t always been in our favor. By fostering financial literacy and empowerment, we’re laying the groundwork for holistic wellness.
Holistic Wellness
The Symphony of Body, Mind, and Soul
Holistic wellness goes beyond the physical. It recognizes the interplay between mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health. For black women, this means acknowledging the unique stressors we face, be it systemic racism, microaggressions, or the pressure to conform to societal norms. It’s about seeking therapies that resonate with our cultural heritage, finding spiritual practices that anchor us, and creating mental health spaces that understand our narratives. When we talk about holistic wellness, it’s a call to treat ourselves as whole beings, deserving of comprehensive care and understanding.
The Interplay
Where Financial Meets Holistic
One cannot discuss black wellness without recognizing how financial and holistic well-being intertwine. Financial stresses can take a toll on mental health, while a lack of holistic care can hinder our ability to make sound financial decisions. This symbiotic relationship suggests that to truly empower black women, we need a two-pronged approach: one that equips them with financial tools and knowledge, and another that provides holistic care tailored to their unique experiences and challenges.
Beyond the Intersection
Charting New Territories in Black Wellness
The discussion doesn’t end at the intersection of financial and holistic wellness. There’s a broader landscape to explore – from the role of community and sisterhood in our well-being to the importance of representation in wellness spaces. It’s about cultural competence in therapy, the resurgence of ancestral healing practices, and the creation of safe spaces where black women can be unapologetically themselves.
A Clarion Call to My Sisters
To every black woman reading this: your wellness journey is sacred. It’s a blend of your history, your aspirations, and the world you navigate daily. As you traverse this journey, remember that you’re not alone. Whether it’s seeking financial advice, opting for therapy, or simply finding moments of quiet introspection, know that your wellness matters. It’s the foundation upon which dreams are built and legacies are forged.
In wrapping up, the intersection of black wellness, financial well-being, and holistic care is a testament to the multifaceted lives of black women. As we continue to explore and champion these intersections, we pave the way for more inclusive, understanding, and empowering narratives in the world of wellness.

A Comprehensive Guide to Achieving Black Wellness
Tumblr media
Introduction
Hi, I’m Dr. Michelle Wilshire, a licensed clinical psychologist and the proud founder of Wasabi and Well, an organization focused on black wellness. In this guide, I will be sharing valuable insights and tips to help you embark on your healing journey. I want to thank you for giving us a chance and congratulate you for taking this important step towards self-care. So, let’s get started!
Unleashing Your Potential through Healthy Habits
This free guide aims to empower you with healthy habits and a growth mindset. By adopting these habits and skills, you will develop a more detailed understanding of yourself and ask more effective questions, which will lead to personal growth and a more dynamic self-image. Additionally, by following through on the exercises in this guide, you will experience an increase in self-esteem, as building self-esteem is intrinsically linked to taking action and following through on commitments.
The Power of Radical Self-Honesty
In therapy, one of the secrets to achieving the healthiest version of yourself is practicing radical self-honesty. This means being honest with yourself and only yourself, without the need to lie to others or pretend to be someone you’re not. By embracing radical self-honesty, you can build a solid foundation for personal growth and authenticity. Remember, the key to living your truth and experiencing personal growth lies in being true to yourself.
The Role of Community in Black Wellness
Research has consistently shown that the healthiest version of ourselves is nurtured within a supportive community. While this guide is available to anyone, it is primarily designed with black women in mind. We recognize the importance of community and invite you to join our growing network of individuals working towards holistic wellness. Together, we can create a space where we support and uplift each other during our worst hours, ensuring that no one walks alone on their healing journey.
A Guide Packed with Gems
This guide is a treasure trove of valuable resources. It offers practical advice and strategies to help you achieve your wellness goals. From establishing healthy habits to setting SMART goals, each page contains actionable steps towards your overall well-being. The guide encourages you to start with small, achievable goals, building on them to create long-lasting positive patterns. By tracking your progress daily, you can hold yourself accountable and celebrate each successful step towards your goals.
The Itty Bitty Steps Method
To facilitate your journey, this guide introduces the “Itty Bitty Steps Method.” By breaking down your goals into smaller, manageable steps, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed and increase your chances of success. Start by identifying your existing healthy habits and then list the inconsistent habits or habits you aspire to have. By selecting one or two of these habits as starting points, you can begin your transformation. For example, committing to staying hydrated can have cascading effects on your skin, energy, and self-confidence.
Creating SMART Goals
SMART goals serve as a roadmap to success. This guide walks you through creating SMART goals by making them specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. For instance, setting a goal to drink 64oz of water daily within the next two months by gradually increasing your intake each week is a SMART goal. By articulating your goals clearly and attaching a timeline to them, you set yourself up for success and enable progress tracking.
Embracing Imperfection and Celebrating Progress
It’s important to remember that perfection is not the goal. Missing a day or slipping up on your habits does not negate the progress you have made. Instead, view these instances as learning opportunities and opportunities for growth. The key is to maintain momentum and continue moving forward. With time, your brain will develop new neural connections, making your desired habits more automatic and enhancing your chances of long-term success.
The Power of Community Support
Joining a community of like-minded individuals can significantly amplify your wellness journey. When faced with challenges, having a supportive network to lean on can make a world of difference. In our growing community, you will find others who are committed to their own holistic well-being. Together, you can share experiences, offer guidance, and provide valuable support. Whether it’s a friendly conversation or a joint activity, connecting with others fosters a sense of belonging and accelerates personal growth.
Taking It to the Next Level with Courses
For those seeking additional guidance and hands-on support, we offer live courses led by experienced professionals. These courses provide six hours of specialized instruction, enabling you to deepen your understanding of wellness principles and tailor them to your unique journey. With the combination of the free guide, community support, and a live course, you can develop a robust toolkit to navigate your healing journey effectively.
Conclusion
In conclusion, embarking on a healing journey towards black wellness is a courageous and transformative endeavor. This comprehensive guide, packed with insightful exercises, practical tips, and community support, equips you with the necessary tools to succeed. Remember that progress, not perfection, is the aim. By celebrating each step forward and staying committed to your goals, you will unlock your true potential and live your best life.
