On this election day, there are lots of forces at work to keep Black people from getting to the polls. Or, if we do cast a vote, to keep that vote from being counted. Let's not make it easy. Turn up at the polls and bring a friend (or two or three).

The 100th Anniversary of the Ocoee, Florida Election Day Massacre
The state of Florida has recently mandated a law requiring that public schools and state institutions teach the history of the Ocoee Massacre.
What happened in Ocoee, Florida in 1920? How do the tragic events that transpired in Orange County intersect with the broader histories of the African American freedom struggle as well as today’s efforts at historical truth and reconciliation in the age of Black Lives Matter?
Paul Ortiz will draw from his book Emancipation Betrayed as well as more than 20 years of involvement in local history initiatives in Ocoee.
Paul Ortiz is an American historian and professor of history at the University of Florida. He is also the Director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program and has published numerous works, including Jim Crow: African Americans Tell About Life in the Jim Crow South and Emancipation Betrayed.
This event is funded by the Florida Humanities Florida Talks: At Home! program.

Libs are like, "YOU CAN'T LET TRUMP WIN JUST BECAUSE BIDEN IS COMMITTING A GENOCIDE! THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR SINGLE-ISSUE VOTERS", when the fact is that people are already really fucking angry at him for funding two wars during a severe cost of living crisis. Biden's pet dog has already gotten Israel and the US embroiled in a steadily escalating conflict with Houthis and Hezbollah in Syria and Lebanon, and now Netanyahu is trying to ethnically cleanse two million Gazans by pushing them out of the country into Egypt, one of the countries the US gives billions of aid money to make nice with Israel and help them trap the Palestinians. Egypt is already mad about this (although Idk what they expected lol) and if Israel creates a border conflict with them, Iran might press their advantage and then the whole region descend into an all-out war in which the US is embroiled. At which point oil prices will jump, the US economy get even worse, more tax money funnelled into TWO wars, one of which is due to the genocide.
People might not care about Muslims living thousands of miles away, but they have some very strong opinions about putting food on the table. At this point there's a pretty significant shift in the Black community towards Trump because Biden has INCREASED funding for police, is supporting Cop City that someone DIED protesting, and hasn't made a dent in mass incarceration (the marijuana pardon was fucking hilarious in a depraved way). The right has also been weaponizing Black people's resentment against Latino "illegal aliens" and Biden's "concessions" towards them, when actually his immigration policies have barely been less draconian than Trump's all this time. The reason he's making those concessions is that he has to look more progressive than him, except he's also been slowly escalating ICE crackdowns, keeping kids in cages and building a border wall. So the Latin voters are entirely fed up with him too.
So far, he's lost the Muslim vote, the Latin vote, the Black vote, the youth vote (people of ages 18 to 35 are the most outraged at the genocide in Gaza), and they're hemorrhaging the working class votes. These are the extremely angry and betrayed people the liberals are currently working overtime screaming at about Trump "bringing the death of democracy", like democracy means anything to them compared to losing jobs, money, visas, family members, health (Biden's first and ongoing genocide is disabled people due to his COVID policies), social infrastructure and money.
Y'all said Blue Not Matter Who and elected a career racist and known incompetent who supported segregation, was an architect of mass incarceration, got Clarence Thomas elected to the Supreme Court and spewed rhetoric against Arabs so genocidal that motherfucking Menachem Begin was like "....bro." And you got exactly what you paid for. If Trump gets on the ticket next year he's going to win, and no amount of screaming at people online is going to change that. So I suggest you start organising now. The age of trying to create a revolution at the ballot box is over.

Okay, this post is the last political post I'll make today because I understand how terrifying project 2025 is to people.
It's important to spread the word about this plan because if they get their way, we're gonna see an American culture that...
Takes away children from single parents and non-cishet Christian parents.
Arrests educators for not teaching children in line with conservative Christian values.
Takes away discrimination protections for Trans people and people in the LGBTQ community in general.
Arrests people who AREN'T cishet white conservatives because they view anyone else as pornographic.
Removes the rights for blue states (or sanctuary states in general) to make laws that combat nationwide conservative legislature.
Censor any educational content that shows how economics and history don't fit with the watered-down information they feed you.
And the list goes on.
I'm gonna link the pdf here
Though I'm going to preface it with this: this is for informative purposes, not to shock people or scare people. I know this is a hard topic to talk about, especially nowadays, and i also know that you're probably tired of this stuff. I know, I sure am, too. I also know that if we know what they're doing, then we know how to stop it.
I was a child born to a single mom, and I have people I love who are LGBTQ+. I might not have a horse in this race, but it's clear people following this manifesto are going to actively hurt everybody who doesn't fit their definition of "normal." Ignoring plans like this is going to actively hurt people in the long run.
The manifesto is so stacked (like 900+ pages) that they're counting on people like you, and I, to not read it in order for their plan to remain secret until it's too late. However, it's important that I share this information and tell you to read and understand this information for yourself so those of us living in america can all fight it while we still can (or even run while we still can).
So don't be like me. Stay informed, stay ready, and stay fighting. Because if conservatives are cooking up plans like this, we must never let them take office ever again.
Thank you for reading, vote blue, and never stop fighting.

Intersectionality flies out the window faster than anything you've ever seen the moment white women and their accomplices think they have another opportunity to present themselves only and most severely oppressed people in the entire world, no matter how many other people they have to throw under the bus and however much evidence they have to ignore to do so.

JACKSON SAYS BACK BACK WE GOT THIS: Jackson city leaders pass resolution opposing House Bill 1020, calling the bill racist and disrespectful
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - House Bill 1020 continues to receive a lot of backlash. This time from the Jackson City Council.
During a special called meeting on Friday, the council passed a resolution saying they oppose the bill.
The council also voted to give a copy of the resolution to every lawmaker in the House and Senate.
Under this bill, the Mississippi Supreme Court would appoint judges to hear civil and criminal cases in the Capital Complex Improvement District.
The legislation would also expand CCID to County Line Road.
The bill states the Attorney General’s Office would be responsible for appointing prosecutors to take on these cases, and public defenders would work underneath the Mississippi Public Defenders.
City leaders question the timing of this proposed takeover, calling the bill disrespectful and racist.
“I am in favor of trying to keep Jackson safe, but not this way,” said Councilwoman Angelique Lee, who represents Ward 2. “I’m also opposed to how the boundaries are drawn. It appears racist on its face, and it is not equally representative of the citizenry Jackson, Mississippi, which is majority black.”
“People of Hinds County, city of Jackson have their rights, and their rights can’t be taken away, won’t be taken away without a fight,” said Councilman Vernon Hartley, who represents Ward 2.
“At the end of the day, we have to deal with the culture that is at that State Capitol, which is, the city of Jackson has their own Representatives, their own elected officials, let them deal figure this stuff out, and if they can’t do it we’ll come in and take over,” said Councilman Aaron Banks, who represents to Ward 5. “At the end of the day, all of this is about them wanting to take over and put their own district within the Capital City of Jackson, and this is our home. Instead of embracing us, they just want to takeover, and we oppose that.”
City leaders held a press conference immediately following the council meeting, showing a unified front that they all disagree with this bill.
“A lot of these bills that affect our city are being introduced without any input from the people who actually live here and the elected representatives that serve with the other members of the legislature,” said Senator Davis Blount, who represents District 29, which includes Hinds County. Lawmakers have until February ninth to vote on this bill. If it doesn’t come up for a vote by that time, the bill will die.

Ben & Jerry's Celebrates the Power of Black Voters with Rebrand of Change is Brewing Flavor

National Campaign Kicks Off With a Seven-Week Tour in Georgia Encouraging Fans to Stand Up For Voting Rights and Turn Out for Historic Midterms
ATLANTA, Sept. 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, on National Voter Registration Day, Ben & Jerry's, alongside Black Voters Matter, is unveiling a sweet new look and mission to their popular flavor, "Change is Brewing" — a cool combination of cold brew ice cream, marshmallow swirls, and fudge brownies. This rebranded flavor is focused on advancing racial justice through protecting voting rights and encouraging voter turnout ahead of November's midterm elections by connecting voters with the Ben & Jerry's Voter Resource Center.

Ben & Jerry's Celebrates the Power of Black Voters with Rebrand of Change is Brewing Flavor and National Campaign
At the founding of our nation, voting was limited to white, land-owning men. It was only in recent history that all Black people have had the right to vote, and even that was, and still is, a hard-fought right. The Voting Rights Act, landmark civil rights legislation passed in 1965, put important safeguards in place to protect the rights of Black voters. However, the Voting Rights Act was gutted in a 2013 Supreme Court decision that paved the way for a number of states to pass regressive voter suppression laws that make it harder, not easier, for people of color and young people to vote. Many states have since passed regressive voter ID laws, limited mail-in voting, and even limited distribution of water in voting lines.
"It is precisely because of the power of the Black vote that a number of states — all controlled by Republicans — are trying so hard to suppress it,'' said Maroni Minter, US Activism Manager for Ben & Jerry's. "That's why today we are also excited to kick off a seven-week tour of Georgia in partnership with Black Voters Matter to engage voters across the state and connect them with information and tools they need to ensure that their vote is counted and their power is felt. And yes, there will be free ice cream."
The seven-week tour, in conjunction with the Black Voters Matter We Won't Black Down tour, will crisscross the state of Georgia in a Ben & Jerry's Scoop Truck, hosting events and engaging voters in the run-up to the historic midterm election. The tour will visit HBCUs, big cities, and rural communities in partnership with Black Voters Matter, serving up free scoops of the decadent coffee-based flavor that is as delicious as it is inspiring. Black Voters Matter works 365 days a year, in Georgia and beyond, to build power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. The tour is part of a larger campaign that will use digital and social media channels, radio, newspaper, and outdoor advertising to encourage participation in the midterms and connect people to the Ben & Jerry's Voter Resource Center, a tool that allows voters to check their voter-registration status, register to vote, find their polling place, and identify key election-related dates.
"Mobilizing and community-building with Black voters is mission critical for BVM," said Cliff Albright and LaTosha Brown, co-founders of BVM, in a joint statement. "There are so many pressing national and local issues at the forefront right now from healthcare to housing to basic needs like access to clean water, which we know disproportionately impacts Black communities. While voting is always an exercise in using our power, we know this year that our safety, our health, our freedom is also on the ballot. And change happens when we use our power collectively at the voting booth. We look forward to partnering with Ben & Jerry's while on our tour this fall, which has for so long been a voice for change in our communities, and will continue to do the necessary work of increasing progressive power through movement-building."
The rebranded "Change is Brewing" pint design features the work of Black multi-disciplinary artist Laci Jordan, and builds on her first pint design. "Last year when we launched the Change is Brewing flavor, I imagined my ideal version of the world for Black communities. This year, the new visual reflects what I see as one of the integral pathways to actualizing that world - voting. This artwork underscores how important it is for the Black community to have access to the ballot box and to use our votes to move our communities and each other forward."
The deep, rich coffee flavor in "Change is Brewing" is from BLK & Bold, the first Black-owned, nationally distributed coffee company — 5% of their profits go to programs to provide resources to youth in need. Greyston Bakery — a values-led supplier and longtime Ben & Jerry's partner known for their groundbreaking Open Hiring program — provides the scrumptious fudge brownies. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Change is Brewing will go to Black Voters Matter to support their work.
To check your voter registration, eligibility status, and to pledge and make a plan to vote, visit action.benjerry.com/vote and then treat yourself to a pint of our new "Change is Brewing" to celebrate (in stores soon).
