Richard Dreyfuss, in 2023: WHY CAN’T I WEAR BLACKFACE!!??
Honestly though, I think the whole, “nobody should be able to tell me what to do” mentality he’s got on full display here is what is quintessentially at the core of white privilege and white supremacy — nobody should be able to tell me I need to wear a face mask, nobody should be able to tell me to get vaccinated, nobody should tell me that I shouldn’t pollute the environment, nobody should be able to tell me that I should maybe be considerate of other people’s feelings, etc etc etc
That, and the whole, “well it’s not personally bothering me, so why should I even have to consider it?” mentality
It’s like the mentality of a child who hasn’t yet learned that there are others in the world
“Also, the Academy's inclusion standards are literally the lowest possible bar to clear. You'd have to be actively trying - and hard - not to have any women or people of color around to not meet this standard.”
Seeing a lot of people out here who say they’re Jewish and use Hebrew in their posts that don’t seem Jewish.
It might just be that I’m from NYC and they are from different areas (I’m Jewish and know a lot of people from the Baltimore Jewish community but they don’t seem different in the way these posts seem so I’m extra skeptical.)
Please take it with a grain of salt when someone says they’re Jewish but they have that Christian stink on them.
Idk, I don’t want to specifically mention what I think is off partially because I don’t fully know and they might catch on. All I’m saying is I’m usually not religious and don’t read Hebrew but I have google and can find all the Hebrew I need to “prove” I’m Jewish in a post.
There’s a heart-warming ending to Deadspin’s famously failed story of a 9-year-old kid who was caught wearing “black face” at a Chiefs game (obviously just team-colored face paint.)
trans women are everywhere and are so eager to be seen and heard but only if they feel safe around you. if you hardly ever have trans women interacting with you, especially online, then consider there might be a reason for that and you should address it
Not to sound emo, but the next time they make a Roger Rabbit, Space Jam style cartoon crossover movie, I hope they bring up blackface and how it influenced early character designs. And I want the characters themselves to be noticeably upset by this news.
