The boys weren’t as secretive as they liked to believe. You had known something was up with them for weeks. Reggie became overwhelmed with a nervous sweat every time he spoke to you. Luke would suddenly hide whatever he had been fiddling with in his hands whenever you came into a room. Meanwhile, Alex would not, under any circumstances, let you go into the garage. 

So yeah, something was definitely up with your best friends. Despite all this, you decided that it was probably best not to ask any questions, seeing as their plans usually went awry. 

Exhibit A: The Street Dog Incident.

Luke would always roll his eyes whenever you brought up the topic, and shout, “It was one time!”

“We died, Patterson!” 

But whatever plan they were carrying out seemed to be going well for them. At least, that’s what you guessed since nothing too disastrous had happened to Julie’s house or the band’s garage. 

It wasn’t until they covered your eyes with a blindfold that you became a little nervous. Reggie’s hands held your shoulders in a tight grip, steering you in the boys’ desired direction. Meanwhile, Alex was there to catch you each time Reggie made you trip over your own feet. Luke, on the other hand, wasn’t helpful at all as he laughed loudly in amusement. 

Eventually, after knocking your elbow into what felt like a doorframe, you huffed, “Are we there yet?”

“Yep! We sure are!” exclaimed Reggie.

“Take off the blindfold!” shouted Luke.

You followed his demands, blinking in an effort to refocus your blurry eyesight. You were met with brightly colored decorations, sparkling candles, and three wide grins that exclaimed, “SURPRISE!”

You laughed happily as your eyes examined the room. The boys had completely transformed the garage! Balloons, streamers, and other endless decorations adorned the walls and ceiling.

Reggie held out a cake with the right amount of candles. Luke quickly pulled the string on a party popper, sending confetti into the air. Alex had a happy smile on his face as he blew a party horn while tossing a party hat your way.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
