Okay, but hear me out: a Harringrove Hercules AU

Billy is a demigod born to Zeus and Hera on Olympus, but Zeus decides he has enough children and that this one (who is kind of a runt of the litter at first) isn't worth the effort of raising. Hera feels different, and so do most of the other gods/goddesses, so she and Persephone cook up a plan. Persephone asks her husband, Hades, to turn the baby mortal, then she and Aphrodite will take the baby to live on earth. Hades does it, but his little henchmen screw it up, and the baby is almost mortal, but he still keeps his extraordinary strength. Still, no one realizes the mistake, so they continue to go through with the plan.

Persephone and Aphrodite take Billy to live with a lonely, childless woman named Susan, who had been praying for the chance to be a mother for years. As a thank you for taking in the demigod, Aphrodite promises that in four year's time, she'll have a baby of her own, as long as she continues to raise Billy until adulthood. She agrees and does just that, raising the two as siblings.

It's a happy, good life that Billy lives with Susan and his sister, Maxine, but it's not all sunshine and rainbows. The townspeople don't like Billy, as his strength is seen as unnatural and dangerous, and people fear he's some kind of evil demon sent by Hades to punish the town for any wrongdoings. So Billy is an outcast, and eventually, he gets so fed up with his clumsiness and the townspeople hating him that he goes to seek help.

He finds it in the most unlikely of places. A woodsman that lives in a modest cabin outside of town with his wife, daughter and two sons, takes in the poor child who wants to learn to understand his strength. The man's name is Hopper and he was in the Greek army for a number of years, and even though he's retired, he still knows how to fight and how to teach someone to fight. He teaches Billy all he knows, and sends Billy back home to his real family.

Billy is excited to go home with his newly learned skills, but it's a long journey, and he doesn't have a horse or any other mode of transportation other than his own two feet. That is, until the first night of his journey, when he finds a wounded Pegasus in the woods. It's hoof is what seems to be the problem, and Billy, who lived on a farm for most of his life, knows there must be a rock or something in there that is hurting it, so he approaches the animal slowly, picks the rocks and dirt from its hoof, and slathers on some of the healing ointment Hopper's wife Joyce sent with him just in case. The Pegasus is so grateful that it won't leave Billy's side, and after giving it a day to heal and rest, they set out together for home. Billy names the Pegasus Camaro, which means friend or comrade.

The next day into the journey, Billy and Camaro are still in the woods, when they come across a small village, and on the edge of the town, a man being harassed by a pack of thieves. The man looks helpless, and Billy, wanting to prove himself a hero, jumps in and defends him. He saves the man and then offers the man a ride with him and Pegasus, and his heart nearly stops when he sees the man's face. He's handsome, and kind, and he smiles and accepts Billy's offer, since they happen to be going back to the same town. The man asks for Billy's name, and he says that his is Stephen.

The journey takes a week and a half, and in that time, Billy, Stephen, and Camaro face all sorts of challenges. Stephen seems to have a knack for finding trouble, and Billy is always there to get him out of it. He finds himself falling in love with Stephen over the course of their journey, and on their last night together, he tells him so. Stephen feels the same and they fall asleep together after gazing at the stars, warm even though the night is cold.

When they finally make it back to their town, the people rejoice. It turns out, Stephen was a nobleman's son, and he'd been off in another town to help his father's trade business. They are less excited upon Billy's return, but when Stephen tells them all of how Billy and his fearless steed Camaro saved him from trouble time and again, they start to warm up to Billy as well. A celebration is held in their honor, which lasts for three days and three nights.

The only problem is, during the festivities, the people are constantly thanking the gods for the boy's safe returns, and Zeus begins to get suspicious. The boy Billy sounds eerily similar to the son he ordered to be killed 17 years earlier, and the fact that he was so strong, could tame a Pegasus, and was so eager to be a hero only confirms his suspicions. He gets angry and on the third night of the festival, in an act of revenge, sends a cyclops to the town to destroy it and everyone in it.

Of course, Billy refuses to let anything happen. He, against everyone's advice, fights the beast, for Stephen, for Maxine, for Susan, for Camaro, and even for the town that hated him for so many years. He fights as valiantly as he can for all of them, and even though he slays the beast, he doesn't come out unscathed. In fact, by the time Stephen gets to him, he's breathing his last, and after kissing his lover goodbye, he succumbs to his injuries.

However, the gods of Olympus are watching this go down, and they decide it was time to stand up to Zeus and his tyrannical rule. Persephone goes again to Hades and asks if, as God of the underworld, there's anything he can do. He finds Billy's spirit and offers him a choice: he can have his warrior's death, and be worshipped as a fallen hero and demigod, or he can have a second chance, he can go back and live among the humans as an ordinary mortal, with no more superhuman strength and no ties to Olympus except the ones the humans have. Billy doesn't even blink when he chooses the second option, saying he'd rather live a million lifetimes with those he loves than a single day without them. Hades does as was asked of him and returns Billy to the Earth, no longer a demigod, but still considered a hero.

From that day on, it takes Billy a while to recover from his injuries, but eventually he regains most of his strength. He and Stephen live happily together raising horses on the countryside by the sea, and Max, Susan, Hopper, Joyce, their children, and Stephen's little brother Dustin and his friends all come to stay with them from time to time, making their life perfect. Even if Camaro likes to bat the other horses with his wings and then pretends to be shocked when they bite back.

You would think Steve but I think it's Billy! When he's really drunk and had his share of wild sheningans he's tired, almost falling asleep, Steve taking him home, that's when his sweet side comes out and he's starting to giggle, twirl his hair, kick up his feet and tell Steve how cute he is amd that he wants to kiss his lips and look at his pretty eyes and wake up every day next to him. Then few mins later he's out cold and Steve huffs when he has to help Billy out of his sinfully tighy jeans and boots. But Steve loves these little.moments and cherishes them, even though Billy never talks about them and Steve's not even sure Billy remembers his boy being so sweet. But Steve makes sure to be sweet in return to a grumpy hangover Billy the next morning

Billy is so pretty to Steve all the time but hes the prettiest when hes all relaxed and calm. His baby blue eyes shine, his freckles are super cute when there's a bit of a flush of hapiness on his cheeks, his lashes thick and pretty, his lips pink and glossy and his nose scrunches adorably. Steve cannot even begin to describe how unhinged he feels about how pretty his boyfriend is so he tackles him down onto the bed, grabs his face and kisses all the things about Billy's face (read: his whole face) that he adores and when Billy giggles, it spurs him on just to hear those cute sounds again

Okay I know it's been discussed but like. I do love me some role reversal. Just, season 1 Steve Harrington moving to California and stealing King Billy's crown without even trying.

- Steve's dad transfers to California at the behest of Mrs. Harrington. Affair after affair has left her Hawkins reputation in tatters. Nothing but pittying stares and snide comments from the locals everywhere she went. So she demands Steve's father move them out to San Diego. A fresh start, a beautiful city. Steve is devastated.

- They purchase a beach house. It's massive and bright with their very own section of the ocean all to themselves. It's beautiful and so very very empty. Because now Steve really does have no one. No friends, no hangers on. Nothing familiar or comforting. The only constant is his parents. They never stayed for more than a week at a time in Hawkins. California is no different. They leave after only five days.

- Steve ends up going to Billy's school by accident actually. His dad has never been very interested in his sons life, always brushed off with a wave or a crisp $100 to go entertain himself because I'm working Steven. So when the subject of school comes up Mr. Harrington picks at random. Just a quick signature and it's done. Unbeknownst to him this is the best thing he has ever done for Steve.

- Because here's the thing. The girls of San Diego do love Billy. But Billy grew up here. You can only fake it till you make it for so long and there has been many an instance where it was obvious Billy just could not give a shit about getting his dick wet with his date. People talk. And sure, anyone says something to Billy he'll rearrange their face. But highschool gossip is savage. California is very much more liberal than Hawkins Indiana but it's still the 80's. Billy still hides. And while he's 100% the golden skin Greek god we see in season 2, he's also less angry. Softer. Hasn't been uprooted to move cross country to bum fuck nowhere where he was something new. Something exotic. Cue Steve Harrington.

- Steve is wholesome country boy charm with a pretty face and a fat wallet. He's big warm brown doe eyes and "I'll have her home by 9 sir". Drives a swanky ass car and has a big empty beach house to throw parties in. Combine all that with a huge dick and the experience of a teen who grew up in a town where there was nothing to do other than party and fuck around? Yeah, the girls at Billy's school are not ready. And neither is Billy.

- Steve Harrington walks through the doors of Billy's highschool Monday morning wearing a crop top and dolphin shorts because he's an Indiana boy born and bred so his body is conditioned to the cold crisp fall days of September in Hawkins, not this sweltering HELL. He has NOT acclimated to the heat of Cali so my boy wears very little clothing whenever he can get away with it. Plays skins in basketball practice, takes his shirt off outside. And he's got SO MANY MORE FRECKLES. The California sunshine is doing him right and Billy Hargrove is NOT OKAY™

- The girls LOVE Steve. Something about the "aw shucks" Midwest charm he brings combined with how genuinely sweet he is. Because Tommy H. and Carol Perkins are thousands of miles away. Steve is given the chance to relax and be more comfortable in his own skin in a place like San Diego. There's no small town gossip chain here. Just the anonymity of a big city. Which also means Steve is given free rein to flirt with all the cute suffer boys at the beach. Let's his gaze linger on toned abs and chiseled jaws when he walks down the boardwalk. Winks when they linger right back.

God, you're so good at what you do

He was sex on legs, a walking Greek god. He knew just what to say, just what to do. How to get you to bat those pretty eyelashes and want all of his attention. He was just that good.

The bell had just rang for the third period's end. English was never Billy's subject, it wasn’t something he got. How the hell was he supposed to understand what Shakespeare meant?

You loved English. You lost yourself in books and spent lunch in the library. There was something so captivating about being trapped in another world, away from Hawkins, away from high school. And everyone knew you loved English - so when Billy needed a tutor, who else was he to turn to besides the pretty girl in his class who understood books like he did Friday nights. It was simple at first, he would wink at you in the hallway and give you those eyes. The ones that screamed he was a bad idea, right?

He had stopped by your locker, wanting nothing more than to sweep you off your feet. So when Billy leaned against the locker and looked down at you with a smirk, you were a goner. “Heard you're the brains of English class. Mind teaching me your tricks, babe?”

Yeah, you were hooked.

And I fell for you like water

By your third tutoring session, you had long forgotten about books and the symbolism behind Romeo and Juliet’s romance. You were more than happy to focus on Billy. How good he felt kissing you, how his thighs in those jeans rubbed that spot that itched so well when you moved. How his hands fit nice and snug in your hips. There was no denying it, Billy Hargrove had worked his charms so well that you just couldn’t resist him. “We gotta”, another kiss to your lips, “Gotta get back to the homework-.”

“Fuck the homework,” Billy murmured against your lips, too engrossed in the way you felt against his lips and how plush and soft your skin was. You were a vision, atop his lap as he just kissed you and kissed you. Books didn’t matter, you did. At least that’s how he made you feel.

A final peck to his lips and you were grabbing your book again, reading out loud the passage that he was trying to understand. Billy groaned - uninterested and unable to figure this shit out. He wanted to go back to feeling your lips on his, try his luck at something more. “C’mon princess, one more kiss?”

Princess. The nickname that had held an effect on you for the past few weeks. The way it came out of his mouth as he inhaled a cigarette after school, or now when you were alone in your room with the door closed, his hands on your hips as he tried to pull you flush against him once more. You shouldn’t, you really shouldn’t, but god he looked so perfect like this. There was a pause before you spoke, voice soft and collected, even if you did not feel that way on the inside. “Figure this out and I’ll let you do more than kiss me, Hargrove.”

Billy figured it out, and you fell harder and harder into his trap.

And now you got me thinking

Tutoring sessions turned into something more.

Car rides to and from school, kisses outside of the bedroom. His hand was on your thigh when you would sit and read in his passenger seat. It was peaceful, it was unexpected - it was terrifying. Kisses when he got the answer right, him testing how well you could read when his fingers were deep inside you. Post bliss cuddles where he read aloud and you listened, long drives at night where he’d stop at some sketchy gas station to get those gummy worms you liked. How he’d steal the blue ones only, so you started setting them aside for him.

It was the end of the day, Friday night plans in whispers among Hawkins High students. You gathered your books at your locker, waiting for Billy to come over and make a comment about how he thought he might need an extra session.

Instead, you meet him at the Camaro, cigarette almost gone as he leans against the door. You smile when you see him, denim-clad and hair-perfected, baby blues that make your knees weak at every turn. “I was waiting for you at my locker.”

“Talkin’ to Hagan.” His response was short, pointed. You nodded and got in the car anyway, knowing it was either this or the long walk home. His hand goes to your thigh like your usual, but it doesn’t feel..right. Maybe it was the English nerd in you, analyzing the situation that didn’t need to be. Or maybe it was the feeling deep down you were attached and he wasn’t.

“Are you coming over tonight?” You ask, glancing over as he drives toward your house. He shrugs his shoulders, the answer not a no but not a yeas. Has the novelty worn off? “I thought we could maybe watch a movie or-.”

“Going to that party tonight, princess. Can’t tonight.” You fixed your books in your lap, nodding. Your disappointment must have been written across your face because Billy was pulling into your driveway and looking at you. Tucking a strand of hair out of your face. “Don’t get so pouty, princess. I’ll stop over after, save some time just f’you.”

He leaned in for a kiss, and you kissed him back. Maybe this was something real after all. Maybe that warm fuzzy feeling in your chest was okay after all.

The sky is green, the grass is red

And you mean all those words you said

I'm sure that girl is really your friend

Our problems are all solvable

He never showed.

You waited and waited, chapter after chapter. You even kept your window open, but he never showed. Saturday bleeds into Sunday, Sunday into Monday. To say you were surprised when the blue Camaro came rolling into your driveway was an understatement. You got in the car like you normally did, but Billy’s hand didn’t go to your thigh. It stayed on the steering wheel. ”I missed you on Friday.”

Billy shrugs “Got hung up at the party. No big deal.”

The words cut sharp. No big deal. How was this not a big deal to him? “Well i waited for you, so I was disappointed is all.”

“God, princess. I said it’s not a big deal. Fuckin’ drop it.” You glance over at him, his jaw clenched and eyes stuck on the road ahead. You turn out to look out the window, thoughts confused and stomach anxious.

Billy doesn’t look at you when you get to school. Simply rolling into the parking spot and making his way toward Tommy and Carol, leaving you to walk to your locker alone. You wanted to cry, to scream. But this was your doing. You believed him when he said he cared when you were a breath of fresh air. The novelty had worn off.

The rumors spread fast, the latest gossip form the rager emitting like a forest fire across Hawkins High. Billy and Lacy, who had spent all night attached at the hip. Who had gone home together, who had been playing a cat and mouse game for weeks. Lacy, who he seemed to want more than ever before. Lacy Lacy Lacy.

It hit you like a ton of bricks, the idea of him with someone else after everything you had shared. Was this all you were, a stepping stone? A means to a good grade? A trial run for Lacy? It made your stomach churn, and your blood run cold. Your hands clammy. Surely it wasn’t true.

And then you see it - Billy with his hands in Lacy’s back pocket, her ribbon matching his shirt. That stupid grin and those stupid eyes that once lit up your world, now lightning up hers. If only you had used your head instead of your heart.

Your gaze meets, your eyes peering into his. He offers no explanation, no apologies. Just a world of crumbled walls and lies layed bare. You turn away, too hurt to comprehend anything. You take a seat in the back of Englsh class, a funny feeling in your stomach that there was no one to balme but yourself.

If only you had been logical.

Steve still can’t fucking believe he’s willingly standing in Hargrove’s dorm room. Somehow, because they’re alphabet buddies, Professor Byers decided it was a good idea to pair them up for an assignment. Hargrove has a brain for English Lit apparently, while Steve is close to failing the class, so yeah.

Ugh.

And, yes, fine, Hargrove is put together like a Greek God, with blue eyes and bouncy curls, the tightest ass ever seen on a man, and a chiseled chest the asshole likes to show off by keeping his shirts undone to his belly button… Steve’s not blind, okay? But Hargrove’s also as obnoxious as he’s hot and he’s got it in for Steve—constantly berating him for his low grades and stupid answers in class. Steve can’t fucking stand him.

“You brought your book?” the dickhead asks him as soon as he steps into the room.

“Of course, I brought the book,” Steve replies, closing the door before getting his copy of The Portrait of Dorian Gray out of his bag, along with a notebook and a pen.

Steve settles at the desk while Hargrove reclines on the bed with his back to the wall, and they get to work. Steve is doing his best to remember the plot and tries really hard to give ideas for the essay, but writing really isn’t his strong point, even less so than reading.

He internally curses his brain and Robin for tricking him into taking this class. Even with Hargrove’s reluctant help, he has no chance to pass, especially when he keeps getting distracted by the douchebag’s posters, mostly metal bands he’s never heard of.

About an hour in, Steve remembers something.

“Oh I know this, he falls in love with an actress. Told you I read the book.”

“Yeah, yeah, that’s great. Tell you what though, Dorian Gray has a bit more interesting tastes in partners in Penny Dreadful. That Ethan Chandler... Damn.”

Steve tries to process this new information, blurting out, “You're gay?” and immediately regretting it when Hargrove’s face turns to stone and he glares at Steve.

“I don't like labels, Steven.” Hargrove snaps his book shut before and stands up from the bed. “You know what, I think that’s enough for one day. You should go.”

Taken aback, Steve goes with it and packs his stuff. It’s fine; he’s got work later anyway. “I’ll see you later, I guess. I’m sorry, didn’t mean anything by it.”

“Whatever, Harrington. See ya.”

Billy walked down the hallway with Amy hugging his right arm, He did find it kind of annoying, but he would never admit it, because you know..., its a girl.

At the other side of the same hallway, Y/n was at his locker, getting his stuff to the next class and joking around with his friends, it was a daily thing for him.

Both boys were from different partys, they had nothing in common, That's what Billy thought, until this day at some random house party, Billy got really drunk and just wanted to go home, but he knew that if he went back to his house his dad would yell at him again, so..., he tried to hide in a bedroom that he never saw before, he just didn't want anybody to see him.

Billy didn't notice what the room looked like the walls were painted with a (f/c) at the walls next to a desk were (f/m) posters, aside from a king sized bed, with white mattress and some other decoration stuff, it was quite nice. Billy also didn't notice someone sleeping at the soft bed.

The Hargrove slowly sat on the ground breathing heavily, he was drunk and that meant he was gonna get sleepy any moment now; Unfortunately for the ginger, the sleeping boy now was awake.

Getting closer to the edge of the bed to look who interrupted his beauty sleep, he almost got scared seeing the dead looking Hargrove — hey man, are you good?

Billy almost jumped up from the sudden presence — I- uhm... It's none of your business, Billy said with a not so rough tone, probably from all the alcohol he had had — well, I was just trying to be nice, it was the last thing Y/n said before laying back on the bed.

Billy knew that his rudeness could be from the alcohol, but deep down he knew he was just mesmerized how that guy could be so pretty, he never saw someone like that before, he looked like a greek god or something, Billy thought it was too gay to find a boy that attractive, that's why he was so cold with L/n

In that morning Billy woke up to see that he had shared the bed with L/n, would be weirder if that wasnt Y/n's bedroom; He got up as fast as he could and headed home.

Billy never told anyone this, but whenever he was around Y/n he would feel so calm, that's what scared him, so he would always toughen up when he was around, he could feel his ears burn whenever L/n spoke to him, everytime that he saw that boy giggling he couldn't help, but smile to himself. Billy never felt that way before, he didn't know what to do, what to think... what would his dad think? what would everyone else think? he didn't want to be seen as a faggot, he felt disgusting, how could this happen to him? he was always hooking up with girls, and girls only!

Its not like Billy's feelings were one-sided, Y/n started having feelings for Billy Since he moved to Hawkins, and his friends (only the ones who knew he liked boys) were always mocking him about he liking a straight guy with a capital s, but he just couldn't help it, specially hen they had basketball practice, Billy would be so gorgeous with that tight little shorts and the way they seemed to glue on his body, all the sweat running down inbetween his chest, Y/n just couldn't not stare, everyone seemed to just look at their behaviour like "bros admirating each other" even tho they barely spoke.

— I dare you to ask him out, Dylan, one of your friends said — have you lost your mind? he's totally not gonna be okay with it, he's like- super straight, you spoke while shutting your locker with quite some unnecessary strength making a loud noise — i mean, you already have a no, go after the yes, man, Theo whispered while looking down to his snickers, he was trying to be chill, like always — what? Y/n and Dylan said at the same time — ARE YOU DEAF? HOW THE FUCK DID YOU GUYS NOT HEAR ME, DUMBASSES, and all his effort to be a calm guy disappeared into thin air — what i think he meant is that you should ask him out anyway, he could accept you never know, Dylan tried to ignore Theo's bad temper, that's when your eyes met with the ginger boy that lived rent free on your mind.

That's when you decided to finally talk to him, as he was getting closer you started moving towards him — Hey! Hargove, its been a while, right? haha..., Y/n smiled awkwardly — Sup, L/n.., yeah its been quite some time i guess — I accidentally bought two tickets for this movie, and none of my friends are available, so i was wondering if you'd go with me.

— Well, you could invite your girl to go with you, maybe you could even score one with her after the movie, you know what i mean, Billy winked and gave him a little smirk — I don't have a girl, i wanna go with you, L/n said way to fast, hoping Billy would understand.

—Alright, just tell me when i should be there, you can tell me at lunch time i've gotta go now, see ya, and billy left, he lied.

he didn't have to go anywhere, he was just afraid that Y/n would notice him blushing even harder, he was so mesmerized by Y/n's eyes that at that time he didn't even realize Amy had left. Billy was so happy, but at the same time he felt bad, so bad that he wanted to vomit and so happy that he wanted to smile even to the air. He just decided that he would see where this goes, he knows that he likes Y/n, the rest they can figure out together.
