Because you cannot pry British Juwon from my hands here are some Juwon headcanons based on his time in England and a bit about how it affects his life in Korea. Featuring Kwon Hyeok obviously.
Language Headcanons:
He is bilingual and is fully fluent in both English and Korean.
He learnt French in school but has forgotten most of it.
It actually got to a point where he would forget words in Korean and ask Hyeok what they were. So he would write down words he forgot and memorise them.
He still sometimes, tho very very rarely, forgets words. He has a note in his phone of them.
He spoke Korean with Hyeok but whenever either of them went out, they spoke English.
Hyeok was fluent but has not maintained the same level as Juwon since moving back to Korea.
Juwon mumbles in English to himself when thinking hard and believing he’s alone. However, people have caught him do this from time to time.
His English voice is a tiny bit deeper than his Korean one but not many people notice it (DS does tho 👀).
He speaks English pretty articulately, and has more of a southern accent.
He says scone like phone and not like gone.
Dongsik adores when Juwon speaks English and has actually picked up a couple words himself.
Unconsciously swears in English… including in rated E moments.
When he’s stressed/upset and gets the opportunity to just explode (obviously after he’s bottled it) he talks in a mush of both languages.
Other Headcanons:
Juwon went to a private school in England and Hyeok taught him extra at home.
He did not have a lot of friends but had one or two that he liked tolerated.
Definitely got picked on by other kids for being quiet or weird. That was until he full on punched a kid and got in deep shit for it, but nobody picked on him again so Juwon called it a win.
He though british/western food was mostly bland but there was a certain elegance and comfort in its simplicity.
Did not go out often, and flat out refused to go to clubs.
He did apply for UK universities and did a year or two before going to the Korean Police Uni.
Did get into a good uni, like Russell group uni (maybe Oxford?), and yet didn’t get accommodation and simply got his own place instead (his hate of sharing things and richness coming into play). He also learnt to cook there.
His father never visited but did send money to the two of them, though Hyeok also got a job out there.
He does not have the best spice tolerance due to western food being… not that spicy.
He has an English name, but doesn’t like to use it unless he has to. He much prefers Juwon.
Has been asked out by a variety of people but turned everyone down as politely as possible (unless they were pushy then he got annoyed and was very bitchy about it). He has never been interested in anyone.
Has read every single sherlock holmes book in English and still has copies in his Seoul apartment.
The only jobs he had in England were from mandatory work experience.
Despite not really being social, he did get to know a book store worker when he went to purchase something out of the classics section.
Yes he read classics and older literature, you’re gonna tell me he didn’t? But his guilty pleasure was fantasy books. He definitely read mostly in English (more accessible) but did pick up the odd Korean book too.
His notes for cases in korea are a mash of Korean and English, mostly just writing in whatever language flows out first. There’s not a lot of time to get them down and nobody else is gonna see them so he doesn’t care about it.
Feel free to drop your own thoughts and opinions and reminder that these are MY HEADCANONS and may not fully align with yours :)

Seven Deadly Headcanons
Or seven thoughts I have about the Seven Deadly Sins.
Ban has definitely gone Gordon Ramsey on Meliodas at some point for not only his terrible cooking but also because he can't organize a kitchen for shit.
Ban spent several nights reorganizing the Boar Hat's kitchen and has a system for keeping things tidy. Meliodas once messed with this organization system and Ban's response was putting up a sign that said Meliodas was banned from the kitchen. The ban was lifted only when Meliodas put things back in their place. He's banned from cooking but not from being in the kitchen.
Due to his rough circumstances growing up, Ban is very insistent on the Sins getting their three meals a day. He'll even make accommodations or adjustments to dishes to make sure that they can appeal to others. No one is going hungry when Ban's around. Even Gowther - who probably doesn't need to eat due to him being a doll - is not immune from this.
Gowther has a soft spot for romance novels and he and Merlin have a lil' book club where they discuss their current reads. Escanor and Diane joined in eventually.
I feel that most of the Sins would be bilingual multilingual headcanons my beloved . Meliodas, Gowther, and Merlin would know the demon's language. Meliodas would try learning the goddesses' language because of Elizabeth and Merlin would already know it and she'd probably know Welsh. King would know the fairy's language and whatever Liones' vernacular is. And while Ban may not be as fluent in it, he's trying to learn the fairy's language from Elaine and King. And yes, Benwick would be a bilingual kingdom and you can pry that headcanon from my cold, dead hands. Also, Diane would know both Liones vernacular and the giants' language. Actually, King would also know the giants' language. Escanor would know multiple human languages.
Ban was lowkey having the mother of all panics when Elaine was pregnant because he didn't want to mess up as a parent and wanted Lancelot to have a good childhood. So when Lancelot and Jericho disappeared, that time was just really rough for him because emotions are a bitch and he was just constantly blaming himself. If he had done something, then his son wouldn't have disappeared.
During Lancelot's disappearance, Ban developed a tradition of pouring out a bottle of Aberdeen on the night of his son's disappearance. Also, he was kind of forced into more healthy ways of coping because without his immortality, he couldn't fall back into self-harm. And he couldn't drink himself senseless because he had a kingdom to lead as the king of Benwick.

Steve was exploring an old library when, among the dusty shelves, he found a peculiar book. It had worn covers and yellowed pages, but what really caught Steve's attention was that the title and all the contents were in a language he couldn't understand.
Intrigued, Steve took the book in his hands and began to flip through its pages with a confused expression. The words were incomprehensible to him. It was then that you entered the library. Your eyes lit up when you saw Steve holding the book in his hands. You had been looking for such a book for a long time.
"Oh, that's a rare copy!" you exclaimed, approaching with a friendly smile. "Did you find it interesting?" you asked curiously.
Steve nodded, but his expression revealed his confusion.
"Yes, but I don't understand a word of it. And I wouldn't want to get in trouble; I've got enough of it."
You laughed softly and took the book from Steve's hands. "Of course, I can read it! This is one of my favorite languages."
Steve looked at you with surprise. “Hold on… you’re bilingual?”
You nodded as you flipped through the book. "Yes? Yes, I speak several languages; do you want me to read it to you in English, or do you prefer a specific language?"
Steve smiled in relief.
"English is fine, please."
You began to read aloud, translating each word fluently. As you progressed through the story, Steve became immersed in the plot and began to enjoy the content of the book.
After a while, Steve couldn't contain his amazement. "You're amazing! How many languages do you speak?"
"Well, some more than others, but I love learning new languages." You replied modestly.

I’ve been watching and listening to a lot of Shelley Parker-Chan’s interviews lately and I have such a huge respect for the way they’ve answered questions bringing up The Untamed as a comparison, saying that they started writing SWBTS many years before The Untamed came out, but that danmei/BL works and their own work definitely come from the same place. It was so healing to hear them say that out loud tbh, such an iconic answer.
Other fun stuff I loved hearing about:
The danmei book series they often seem to recommend is Guardian by Priest.
They’ve mentioned that The Radiant Emperor draws inspiration from Chinese court dramas but they are not actually very into xianxia or wuxia series.
They explained that the language in The Radiant Emperor series has been influenced by clumsily translated webnovels, bringing that ’bilingual’ quality to their text.

Hey Profe 🍓:
A little different. About your Spanish journey post. Did you ever have experience learning by conversation? I struggle with language because I need a peer to push me out of my comfort zone. My conflict is that my bilingual friends just speak to me in English.
How did you improve in Spanish dialogue? If you did it alone, what did you do?
I'm still working on improving my speaking skills, but in college I was in a Spanish club where you'd meet and speak Spanish which helped
There are some groups/study groups that meet online that do something similar [though be careful if you're a minor obviously, but there are some apps like MeetUp that are people who meet up to do things like hiking, watch movies, play games etc and sometimes there are Spanish language groups or book clubs etc]
Honestly it's difficult because the only way to do it is by practicing, so maybe you can ask them to speak to you in Spanish? I don't know - I know that feeling though, a lot of my bilingual friends slip into English or they do English around a group because it's easier for them

RWRB movie observations, roughly in order
Dumping all my stream-of-consciousness thoughts and observations under the cut.
Alex's fucking dorky intro: "do touristy things" with that little tongue, aggressively drinking, tHaNkS fOr ThE eTiQuEtTe LeSsOn! ... who made him this way.
Also I kinda love Uma Thurman's accent haha it's cheesy in the best way.
WHOSE DOG IS ALEX'S PHONE BACKGROUND. I think it's the director's, as a little easter egg: I've seen people say the similar-looking dog is the other portrait in Henry's room in the confrontation scene. First instinct I thought it was Amy's shih tzu Jonathan but that would have been too perfect.
It's an interesting change, having Henry be the one to reach out to Alex after the cakegate PR tour instead of Alex giving Henry his number before he leaves England. I'm not sure what that says...it makes sense in the book because it's a reflection of Alex warming to Henry, seeing him as a real person he could actually be friendly/friends with. Is it like, a moment of weakness for Henry? We come to know he's basically been in lust/love with Alex for years, did he get a little taste of that one-on-one time together and he just couldn't give it up without seeing if it would turn into something real? I don't mind the change from the book, I'm just grappling with the implication.
I also like the way they did the media-on-screen, it feels like a 2.0 of BBC Sherlock's on-screen texts but the dynamic way they reveal it to us (Henry's "but we were so careful" punchline etc), and the lovely color-coding and additions of gifs, pics, and stickers is so fresh.
Also the BUTTERFLIES during the texting get-to-know-you sequence as the story transitions from texts into the first phone call they have. God. Perfect transition. That first blush of love, the rush of getting the attention of someone you like.
Not me frantically doing the math on Alex's age film vs book to make sure he didn't hook up with a reporter underage on the campaign trail lmao (If he's at "Georgetown Law" during the film he's at least 21 at the start of the film if he's L1 post grad, where his mom is "14 months" from re-election. So on the previous campaign would have been OH GOD BARELY 18 MAYBE yikes Miguel)
The Paris scene is unbelievable, the intimacy. I had to look away sometimes, it feels like real sex. Vulnerable and a little silly and very very raw, all the non-verbal communication and consent. It's also refreshingly realistic: multiple condom wrappers, the lube...Santal 33 on the nightstand next to the key perfect...
I wonder if Alex's strong reaction to his mom's "realist" stance to re-election (focusing on the rust belt over tx, etc.) is a referred reaction to Henry's statement about his place in the royal family ("Grandpa is a cold, hard realist..."). Alex doesn't want to recognize the reality of these positions of power even as he seeks to occupy and overcome them.
Bilingual bonus!!! The use of cabrón when Alex and Miguel confront each other at the bar: The opening "cabrón" from Miguel is friendly (e.g. "what's up, bro"), the departing "cabrón" from Alex is fuck off ("later, asshole").
Again, the way they laugh during sex.
Favorite movie In the Mood for Love HENRY FOR REAL?!? that's... It's swoony yes, cultured yes, but fuck, also so fucking sad. Missed connections and unrealized longing.
Surprise movie perk, no June at the Austin lake house means Percy got to come on vacation. Making up for no LA I guess haha. Also thanks Alex and Henry for my next book club recs with One Last Stop and Girl, Woman, Other.
I do love the way the movie gives us Henry's perspective. "Do you love him?" "What difference would it make if I did?" hurts so bad, and we never got to see the pain that decision caused Henry in the book. And to put us with him on the morning of the leak instead of Alex was also a bold choice, but I also feel like...idk Alex's dissociation + panic attack from the books would not have matched the Alex we got to know in the movie and furthermore would have been very difficult to render in film.
"I will trouble you no longer" feels like such OOC phrasing for Movie!Alex but it's so....fuckin' Jane Austen lmao. It's perfect for the elevated Hallmark vibes of the film and the literary (sub)text of the book. This whole scene, and its adaptation from the original text feels so play-like in its execution. I know people wanted the "I can want you--" "Then have me" reparte but I like what they did there vs the way "history, huh?" was handled. Like you had to have the line, its Iconic, but idk if I always like how they did it in the V&A...
I will also 100% agree with the people who say that the idea of Alex making the speech followed by talking to Henry then flying to England seems to happen in the wrong order. Idk it seems impulsive for Movie!Alex and the way he grew as a person in the course of this narrative, talking to Henry should have been a part of that public decoration because it wasn't just Alex coming out, it was confirming their relationship too, and if he really knew how difficult that identity and the act of coming out was for Henry he would not have forced that moment without his consent.
ZARAH "these two lovesick homosexuals" no one on planet earth is more done with this whole thing than her.
I'm sorry but going with Alex saying "Baby" instead of "Sweetheart" in the phone call after the leak is one thing the film did improve on over the book. (NB I am so glad Taylor did NOT attempt the Thurman accent for Alex.) "I'll break the sound barrier for you" is also a total banger of a line.
Signet Ring Fidget Shot in Buckingham Palace is also peak cinema.

Hello! How are you? Wanted to ask if you have any headcanons about a Korean riddler?
Hello! I’m doing great. I actually do have a few main headcanons for what a Korean Riddler might look like.
He is a second generation Korean American.
He is bilingual, fluent in both Korean and English, and loves to use different languages and wordplay in his riddles.
His favorite dish to make is Budae Jjigae, or army stew. Because most of the ingredients are non-perishable and the hardware to make the dish is minimal, he finds it easy to cook even if he is in hiding in an underground bunker or small apartment.
In his youth, Eddie craved attention for his intelligence, but due to his parents insurmountable expectations and dismissal as “just the smart Asian kid” from his educators, he did not receive the praise he longed for. This pushed him to flaunt his intelligence in as many ways as possible, culminating in burnout during his high school years. One day, he was an integral player on the school trivia team, a star student, and captain of the robotics club, and the next, he was a drop out.
On several occasions, Eddie has planned trips to Korea as escapes from Batman or Arkham, complete with riddlers for Batman to solve and find the exact city or area his destination is (similar to his Egypt-specific riddles in Batman Unburied). However, Batman has discovered this pattern and learned to intercept Eddie at the airport whenever one of his aliases books a flight the country. This bothers Eddie immensely because he sees these culturally specific riddles as a way to connect with his heritage and wishes Batman would realize that.
Whenever they are in Arkham together, Eddie and Harvey (who I headcanon as half Chinese) talk at length about how they feel alienated from other Asian Gothamites because of their criminal careers, and from their own cultures as diaspora. Overseers of asylum group therapy see this as a way for the two to distract from the tough conversations that would see them towards reform, but in truth, both suffer from deep feelings of isolation and find comfort in their mutual understanding. I think having people to truly understand him would be a huge step towards his reform from villainy.
Thank you for asking :D

spanish, 2 months in
so i've been learning spanish for 2 months or so now 🥳 i know that i'm still in that honeymoon phase where im acquiring a lot at once and every small victory feels like a huge thing, but overall i'm really enjoying it. anyway, i wanted to write up a little post because i think in a few more months or years i'll be interested in seeing how i started learning, as well as what did or didn't work out for me.
fwiw, here's what i'm personally doing. everything is free btw:
daily flashcards - i'm using this anki deck for general vocabulary, and i also have a custom deck that i add slang or rare words to. i also plan to start this one to drill verb conjugations. this is probably the biggest time sink, i do it every day for ~25-30 mins.
grammar textbook - i print out and do the pages by hand. the only thing that sort of sucks is that i'm doing the exercises in order, and they introduce conjugations at like the midpoint, which probably could have helped me earlier on? fabulous book so far though! it's all in spanish, but the examples are very clear, and you pick up more vocab/sentence structure this way imo
language transfer spanish - i'm about 4/5 through this and definitely recommend it for general grammar/listening practice. it's not a traditional language course where you learn how to say "hello/goodbye/my name is" in the first lesson... it really guides you into naturally constructing language instead of just memorizing it and spitting it back out. there are a lot of little tricks you learn too, like how english can be "converted" into spanish using their shared latin roots, the host has a ton of linguistics knowledge so it's really rather fun!
audiovisual/written input - this is the part where i get to WATCH STUFF yay!!!! but then i actually have to pay attention to it, boo. i do actively learn from 31 minutos since i have dual subtitles, but otherwise i kinda just vibe and try to learn from anything i'm into that happens to be in spanish... so other shows and song lyrics, etc. im also verrrryyy slowlyyyy reading this introductory bilingual reader, and i try to pick up things from posts on spanish-speaking subreddits like r/mexico, r/argentina, r/chile, etc... i find reading contemporary posts online is a great way to pick up slang and usually if i find a word i don't know i'll put it in my custom anki deck so i learn it 👍
so where am i at after all of this? UM well it's hard to say but i feel comfy saying i'm advanced beginner... i know most of the simple verb tenses (present, future, perfect and imperfect past, conditional, subjunctive) and maybe like 1000-1500 words? and i definitely have a sense now of what parts of speech should look like. i don't explode anymore when seeing se/me/te before a verb either. i think i could communicate with a (patient) native speaker without losing my mind -- my reading is way better than my listening or speaking, but i think this is somewhat common.
some areas that i could improve on:
i don't get nearly enough listening practice sighhhh like i do want to watch stuff but moving has made it very hard. hopefully i can work on it in the winter
same as above, i need more speaking practice... i am actually doing all this for a reason (going on a trip to a spanish-speaking country next year) so i don't really want to be put on the spot. i might try to find some local clubs or cultural exchange groups for this?
i know it's a meme but i can not roll my Rs very well. it's bad out here
one last resource: if you would like to learn a language but are totally overwhelmed by what to do or how to do it, i heartily recommend this guide. it's entirely about how to learn a language, but it doesn't have tips for specific languages, it can be applied to anything. it's also free, open-source, and pragmatic in its approach, which i like. that's all i got for now but thanks for reading 🙇‍♂️ hopefully i return to this post in a few months with more progress!

20 Questions Writer Meme
tagged by @onlygenxhere!!! Thank you for tagging me!! This looks fun! :)
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 55!
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 599,836! Boutta make that an even 600k booooiiii
3. What fandoms do you write for? Percy Jackson, Julie and the Phantoms, Star Wars the Clone Wars, DC Comics/Young Justice and a few others. It's usually one at time.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
These are all DC/Young Justice fics lol. Whoops.
1. Five Times 2. The Revelation 3. Unsteady 4. A Time to Meet 5. In the Past
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes and no. I feel awkward just going "thank you!" and uhhh... this sounds bad... but like out of sight out of mind. I LOVE getting comments and I will read and re-read them but I really feel so akward replying and don't know what to say. That said, I will reply sometimes. I need to be better about it.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oh... okay... inch resting. I'm not entirely sure! I want to say there's a fic where I just like. Killed Percy. There's a fic that I think is on fanfic dot net and not ao3 that's a Young Justice/Avengers crossover and a character crosses from the YJ universe to the Avengers verse and time passes differently?
So like one year in the avengers verse is one day in the YJ verse, so when they finally come to get the character it's been five years for him and he doesn't actually go back.
A lot of people were mad at that ending lol.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh god, I don't know! I actually legit don't know. Probably The Overwhelming Specter of Your Mother's Book Club, in which Paul Blofis tells his mom he's actually been married for a few years. She's both furious and delighted - she finally has good gossip for the girls in the book club. I'm very fond of that story.
8. Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten comments that are less than nice but I do not think about them ever they mean very little to me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope!
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Yup! Probably the Christopher Robin (the movie) and Star Wars teh Clone Wars. Ewan McGregor my beloved.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Podficed and someone translated a fanfic dot net fic into Chinese.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope, although it sounds really fun! Maybe one day.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship? Percabeth!!!!! And Juke is coming close there. Also loved Danny/Valerie (greyghost) from Danny Phantom.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? The Revelation. YJ and Percy Jackson crossover.
16. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue? And I think I can do fight scenes well. Probably because my first fics were Percy Jackson and Young Justice.
In reference to dialogue, a PJO fic I wrote has some of my fave dialogue, so much so that my friend and I read out the dialogue in the deliberate mid-atlantic accent I'd tried to write into it and it was so much fun. I was like lol. I've met this woman. I love her.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Writing. Lol. Nah, but uh... I think plot? Or rather, like, I think I'm not good at... telling a story.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Have done before and am not against it, although it depends on my familiarity with the language and also the context in which a character would switch. I'm like... eh... technically bilingual and it's gotta make sense and man... a lot of times it's just jarring. I can amble along with german in a fic if it has it, and I've thrown gaeilge/irish in bc I know the basics. I probably wouldn't for the most part.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Percy Jackson.
20. Favorite fic you've written? The Overwhelming Specter one. I'm fond of that because a lot of it is based off my own family. The two main characters were based off my own grandparents. And people in the comments just... were so nice to them and loved them and it... it was nice. It was really nice.
Tagging @skywalking-through-life!! Have fun with these! <3
Thanks again for tagging!! This was very enjoyable. Sorry it wasn't very JATP focused but it be that way sometimes.
