So that Sailor Moon Shadowgast AU I mentioned? Time to drop some notes I have on it. (I haven’t watched Sailor Moon in years so I’ll say it’s loosely based on it. Also they fucking died a lot more than I remembered).

Backstory:

So this would take place in a more modern setting. But since Sailor Moon is all about reincarnation, basically Campaign 2 is what happened in the past. Except it was the bad ending where Trent wins at the Clay family home. However, although Trent wins, Astrid and Eodwulf show their love for Caleb one last time as it is their efforts that lead to the reincarnation of all of the M9 some time in the future. In Sailor Moon, Queen Serenity uses the Silver Crystal to seal the souls away for rebirth. In this AU, Astrid and Eodwulf give their lives to use the knowledge that Trent gained from the Beacons against him. Basically enacting some form of controlled consecution, in which they would return when the Luxon deemed it time to defeat Master Ikithon once and for all.

Caleb Widogast as Sailor Moon:

Centuries later, Caleb Widogast is born again. (What’s nice is that Caleb gets to have parents now, not the same ones but yay?) Caleb is definitely nothing like Usagi. He’s a great student, very responsible and reserved, not bratty but still has that streak of hubris and of course still an absolute disaster bi. He would still have some of the signature Caleb things, like the arm scratching when nervous/anxious, an affinity towards fire, yet also a weird apprehension at the same time, and a deep love for cats. (Also he still has the “Zemnian” accent) However, despite his new life being pretty happy, he still feels like he’s missing something or perhaps someone, multiple people?

Thus, in his senior year of college, Caleb comes across a stray orange tabby cat with a strange star on it’s head. He takes it home and promptly names it Frumpkin, as the name pops into his head out of the blue. Surprise surprise when Frumpkin starts to talk and addresses him as his old master.

Frumpkin explains that Caleb is the second chosen of the Luxon and that he is here to help Caleb remember who he truly is and stop the forces of evil. Caleb is understandably kinda freaked out by what Frumpkin is telling him (tiefling, elves, and all the magical races still exist, so talking cat isn’t too wild. But reincarnation of ancient heroes that stop great evils like a body horror city? That’s fucking insane). But in that moment, some memories come back to him as a bright light fills his room. It’s not total anamnesis but it’s very similar. As faint memories or impressions of the other members of the Nein come back. All except for one.

This triggers Caleb’s first “magical girl” transformation. Not sure what their outfits would look like, but maybe some cool wizard esque outfit. It would definitely have amber elements to it. Maybe a scarf too. Frumpkin takes him out on his first night of being whatever I’m gonna call him instead of Sailor Moon. (Maybe something to do with the Luxon?) In which Caleb fights off a pack of gnolls being controlled by Ikithon. He almost gets his ass totally kicked, but his Keen Mind feat from the past kicks in as he remembers how to cast Widogast’s Wall of Fire.

Currently Caleb is searching for the rest of the Nein to reawaken their memories and his own, to stop Trent. While he doesn’t remember anything yet about his own past with Trent, he instinctively has a strong feeling of hatred when he is mentioned. And then, the day after his first outing as “Sailor Moon”, he runs into Essek Thelyss for the first time in centuries.

Essek Thelyss as Tuxedo Mask:

Essek never wanted to be consecuted, yet it ended up being the thing that saved him. He never truly believe in the religious zeal of the Luxon in the Dynasty, yet he is the first champion of the Luxon. A bit earlier than Caleb, Essek Thelyss is reborn. (Still a drow) Essek is in his own senior year of college when the Luxon itself presents itself to Essek. (For reference Essek is 2 grades ahead of Caleb—so a grad student currently—but you know the equivalent for that age in elf years.)

The Luxon returns a lot memories back to Essek. Some more clear than others. Numerous of them being about a ginger haired wizard, whose features are still fuzzy. But he feels a deep connection and affection towards this person. He is privy to the memories of him stealing the beacons and working with the CA. So when the Luxon tells him this is his chance to right his wrongs and help settle the scores of the past, Essek agrees to become the champion of the Luxon.

For the past 2 years, Essek has been going out alone as whatever I’m going call him instead of Tuxedo Mask, doing what he can in the fight against Trent. He’s been trying to find the M9 and particularly that man he wants to remember so dearly. Until finally one day, he runs into Caleb on campus, in the library trying to grab the same book onto the mythos of the Luxon.

(I know you've gotten a lot of prompts with this, but I just love the idea of Caleb being the fullblown gay disaster.) So you know those stories about two witches getting the same custody deal from the same person, and having to share the kid? That but with Fjord and Caleb as the witches. Fjord is fine with it, Caleb is just in full panic because now he's coparenting with someone really pretty and it wasn't in the contract. (But isn't complaining about it.)

I feel like 110 provided some validity to Mr. Caleb “Are his forearms still as amazing as they always were?” Widogast being a disaster bi. Also, I had never heard of this being a thing before I received this, but I am very happy to learn of it! I had an absolute field day with it.

The first time they met Caleb nearly had a full blown panic attack as the woman explained why there were two magical beings coming to claim her first born child. While she was too concerned about them killing her retaliation to read the room, Caleb tried not to blatantly stare at the gorgeous man sitting next to him. A tall half-orc with broad shoulders wearing armor with flora etched into it, a long cape and braces. If he didn't look so calm about the entire situation, there would have been concern the man came prepared for a fight. Instead, most of Caleb's energy went to keeping his eyes off his exposed biceps or stealing looks at his gorgeous eyes.

In the end, the decision to share custody over the child rather than haggle new deals with the woman led to Caleb seeing much more of the other. The first few years most of their exchanges came when they were switching off who had Kiri with most of their conversation centering around her. It wasn't until Kiri began talking that Caleb learned more than where Fjord lived and that he was a warlock of the Wildmother. Her first night back always consisted of him making dinner while she rambled about what her and Fjord got up to. Gardening with Caduceus, baking pastries with Jester, learning to sneak and pick locks with Veth and her son. There were always wild and adventurous tales that sounded much more interesting than anything she did with him.

If Fjord wasn't such a kind person, Caleb might have been jealous over how much more interesting her time spent with him sounded. He had no doubt in his mind that as she grew older Kiri would want to spend most of her time with Fjord. Although he loved her greatly, he knew he still came off as awkward and distant whenever she spent time with him. Honestly, he considered it a win that she didn't cling to Fjord and refuse to go with him for a few weeks.

When she finally reached the age that her schooling needed to be considered, Caleb feared the impending conversation with Fjord. Needless to say, he was more than a little surprised when they all sat down at his kitchen table and Kiri immediately insisted on training to be a witch. His shock must have shown plainly on his face because Fjord sent him an amused smile before assuring Kiri that he supported her decision. By the time her decision finally settled in, they were both watching him and waiting for him to respond. To avoid bursting into tears, he pulled Kiri into a tight hug and buried his face into the top of her head as he choked out how proud he would be to train her.

After that, things took a turn that he hadn't at all been expecting. With the rigors of training making swapping houses for weeks at a time difficult, Fjord made the decision to uproot his life in Nicodranas and move to Rexxentrum. Walking out of his house to see him, a tiefling and a firbolg moving in across the street nearly caused him to have a heart attack. Fjord had simply waved at him, then dropped his box to catch Kiri before she slammed into his shins. Dinner that night ended up being an entertaining affair that grew in numbers when Beau, Yasha, Astrid and Eodwulf found out about the new neighbors. Despite barely fitting around the table, the evening ended up being a wild success that became a monthly tradition.

With the close proximity and Kiri connecting them, Caleb found himself spending so much time with Fjord that his underlying attraction to him turned into something much deeper. Family dinners turned into late night conversations after Kiri went to bed over wine and whatever dessert Caduceus or Jester made that week. Normal errands turned into a family event that led them to ice cream in the park or a movie. The more time spent together the closer they grew and the more Caleb found himself desperately wishing for their relationship to evolve into something more romantic in nature.

They were lounging in the garden on a cool summer's night with the string lights hanging in the tree casting the perfect glow on Fjord's face to make Caleb's heart beat wildly in his chest. Most of the conversation had died down, but Fjord made no move to part ways for the evening. If anything, he looked content to remain reclined back in the lounge chair sipping wine and enjoying the breeze. That was until his eyes suddenly snapped to Caleb to catch him watching him much too closely to be anything short of staring.

Before he could quickly look away, Fjord moved to join Caleb on his lounge chair with his body turned to face Caleb. "Enjoying your evening?"

"Ja, are you?"

"Of course." His fingers gently brushed a stray strand of Caleb's hair behind his ear, then brought their face so close it was hard to focus. "I always enjoy the evenings we spend together. They are the highlight of my week."

"I feel the same."

"That's good."

"It is?"

"Yes, I feel a bit more confident about this." A surprised exhale fell out of his lips as Fjord's large hand gently cradled his jaw. "Can I kiss you?"

When his voice refused to work for him, Caleb nodded his head as best he could without dislodging Fjord's hand instead. The first tentative brush of lips sent a shiver down Caleb's spine that caused Fjord's lips to twist into a smile. His hand drifted to the back of Caleb's neck to gently grip the back of it as he pressed forward for a much firmer one. Caleb tipped his head to the side for a better angle as he gripped Fjord's bicep so he had something to keep him grounded. As soon as this one broke, Fjord's lips trailed along his jaw to his neck where his tusks dragged along the delicate skin. He was in the middle of hooking his leg around Fjord's to drag him closer when the sound of the back door opening caused him to freeze.

"Dad? Papa?" Kiri's sleepy voice sounded from just around the corner of the garden giving them just enough time for Fjord nearly reach the archway and Caleb time to hide the bruising most likely beginning to blossom on the junction of his throat and neck.

"Hey, Ki. What do you need?"

"Can't sleep. Can I have another story?"

"Too many thoughts going on up there like your papa?"

"Yeah."

"Thank another story will help, Cay?"

With Fjord crouched in front of Kiri, it was easy to casually rest his hand on Fjord's upper back as he looked down at him. "I think I have a few things that could help, including a story."

"That sounds like a plan. Up we go, little one."

Kiri wrapped her wings around Fjord's neck and tucked her face into his neck as soon as he picked her up. She gave a contented chirp when Fjord began running a comforting hand up and down her back. Fjord hooked his free arm around Caleb's waist, then guided them back along the garden path to the house. As Caleb held the door open for them, Fjord gave him a soft smile and a wink that promised they would pick things back up once Kiri went back to bed.

Critical Role: C2E1.1

so, in a fit of insomnia-induced boredom, I sought out the shenanigans of D&D, specifically Critical Role (though, I actually started out with High Hopes Low Rolls, but there’s a lack of canon content for that at the moment).

I got through the first,,, hour or so? Up until the first break. I decided to start with Campaign 2 because a) it’s what’s going on right now, so I can be active in the fandom and b) I love one (1) Beauregard and her undercut.

Here are my Thoughts(tm), should you be so inclined to hear them:

First off: I love how... idk produced this all is? It’s probably due in part that I am starting from a point where they’ve already got a campaign under their belt and have nabbed funding and gotten a handle on what exactly they’re doing it, but I just love how professional and well-done all the sound and set-up and everything is.

Second: Matt’s storytelling is phenomenal. It’s so immersive and descriptive in all the right ways and I aspire to be involved in a campaign that springs forth such vivid images in my imagination (side note: should anyone know of animations of various scenes, particularly early ones, from this campaign, I am begging you to send them to me).

Third: CHARACTER IMPRESSIONS!

As this is the ongoing campaign, I have seen fanart flying around and heard discussion about various characters, so I am going in with a bit of bias (mostly towards Jester and Beau, as both characters and a ship, and I was recently told of Molly and the fact that he aligns perfectly with my trend of Disaster Bi Favorites). For now, though, my impressions of the characters, in order of appearance/description, from the first (*checks video*) hour and forty minutes of the first episode.

Caleb Widogast: He feels like the long-suffering friend who just wanted to travel and learn things but wound up being dragged into mildly illegal shenanigans because of batshit crazy friends (namely Nott). I love that he has a cat that he can just magic in and out of existence (and I love that his solution for Beau’s... everything was to tell Frumpkin to jump in her lap because I too would be thoroughly distracted by a cat’s affection).

Nott the Brave: I both want to fiercely protect and stay thirty feet away from Nott at all times, because on the one hand, she is meek and adorable and just wants to help Caleb as best she can, but on the other, she’s an eager thief and will pull a knife on you before you can say jack. I’m curious as to why she requires the uhh beer (I can’t remember what they called them), as well as what trouble she and Caleb got into the night before the story began.

Jester Lavorre: She’s adorably heartfelt and sincere, even in the midst of gambling away her newfound silver and cheating at cards. I love how eager and gullible she is and I love the voice Laura does for her, it’s perfectly suited. I only wish for good things and no harm to come to her, but then again... Bad things happening to sweet characters are always far more interesting.

Beauregard Lionett: I have a weakness for characters who are fairly stoic and realistic but will humor their eccentric friend no matter what and that, my friends, is Beau. I’ve seen so much fanart of her and I aspire to have that haircut and sense of style (as well as general confidence and surety), so yeah I expect Beau to be one of my favorites. Her general amusement at Jester’s antics and Here For Shenanigans attitude is reminiscent of my aspirations for my own PCs, so I will be taking notes. Mentally. Behind the heart eyes.

Fjord: Definition of a gentle giant, from what I’ve seen thus far. I gather he’s mostly here to keep Jester from gambling away all their funds and Beau from getting into General Shenanigans. I don’t have many thoughts on him, as he’s been the tall, dark, and silent type thus far, save for reigning Jester in when need be, so we’ll have to see what’s in store.

Mollymauk Tealeaf: Charming, dashing, and boy does he know it (and use it to his advantage to scam well-meaning folks into losing a few coins)? Molly is precisely my type of character, he oozes confidence and swagger and I love him. He definitely ranks high on my list of favorites thus far and I CANNOT wait to learn more about him.

Yasha Nydoorin: Mysterious hot lady who can and would beat me up? I’m sorry, Yasha oozes hot butch lesbian vibes and while her actual moments of interaction are few and far between, I’m with Beau on this one: I like her. Again, can’t wait to learn more!

Aaaand now, before I dive back into the carnival, I’m gonna try a new way of ranking favorite characters in media? Because while there are reasons to love and be intrigued by each character, you gotta know which one you love the most.

I plan to give each character a little tick mark next to their name at the end of each part (between breaks) for how much I enjoyed their dialogue/behaviors/interactions and... Well, we’ll see which character gets the most by the end of it all, yeah?

caleb widogast (critical role) -- what can i say? traumatized, mentally ill yet incredibly silly nerd that adores cats and his friends???? um.... me? in all seriousness, i relate to him a lot, and he serves as a huge comfort character for me. i adore him, and even that word doesn’t suffice how much he means to me.

ronan lynch (the raven cycle/dream trilogy) -- i appreciate an angry character, especially when that angry character grows into something more. he’s so dynamic and has changed so much from trb, which is fascinating, since he himself believes that he’s static

yennefer of vengerberg (the witcher) -- she doesn’t get enough love from the fandom. she is a complicated, angry, and traumatized woman written FOR women. she has been taught to maintain control her whole life, when all she wants to do is SCREAM. the woman experience right there.

michael guerin (roswell new mexico) -- i saw a bisexual disaster, and i said, “that. i like that.” this show is trash, but the characters make me love it. michael is filled with love and struggles so hard to express it, especially when love his whole life, whether romantic or platonic, has been tied to pain.

lydia martin (teen wolf) -- i was a teen wolf kid from 2012-2016, man. i worshiped this show in my teenage years, and lydia was a huge part of that. seems like a nasty, shallow girl on the surface. underneath, she is so deeply caring and soft and intelligent.... also she made me realize i was gay

gorgug thistlespring (fantasy high) -- i just started fantasy high!! gorgug is ADORABLE. awkward nerd boy? hey it’s my character type! he’s just really dumb and wants the best for his friends and to find his father and just... i love that about him. also he’s bi/pan, which automatically makes me adore a character more.

neil josten (the foxhole court/all for the game) -- SASSY BASTARD KING. i binge read the first book in one sitting, and i remember the MOMENT he roasted riko on live television, that he would go down in history as one of my faves. he cares so little about his own well-being but adores his friends and andrew so much... he’s so, so funny in a dry way, and he doesn’t even know it

sirius black (harry potter) --  i’m a marauders ho. y’all know that. fanon sirius gives me life. he’s been through such a rough, hard life. it’s made him desperate for attention. it’s made him vain and mean, but that doesn’t stop him loving his friends so, so much... he would do anything for them.

steve harrington (stranger things) -- steve. everybody loves good ol’ steve. he’s a classic himbo. his best friend’s a lesbian. he’s great with kids! he has awesome hair! what isn’t there to love? i just wanna chill with him, ya know?

isak valtersen (skam) -- BOI. what a little snake, amiright? he’s an icon though. i couldn’t not include him. he goes from a slimy little asshole to an adorably sweet little asshole! he messes up constantly, which i love. but he always comes back from those mistakes. he apologizes. he grows. from season 1 through 4, he changed so, so much.
