4x01 Recap - Echoes (The 100)

Alright folks, it’s time. My show has returned, and I am throwing myself back on this ride with wild abandon.

I’m adopting my Discussapalooza style from here on out. Which is to say that this recap is going to be very long. If there are any sections that you’d like me to pull out and post seperately, let me know. Otherwise, you have been warned - I like to go in depth.

We ready? LET’S GO.

Octavia feels right from the get go

First we need to talk about how stupid the Polis tower is, from a practical standpoint. It’s one of those choices where this show went for BIG BIG BIG without thinking of anything else. It is DUMB that they all got down without incident with the elevator out. And like...next episode they are back up there again??? AGSAJSABHFSAF.

Anyway, the little wobble that Octavia has as we see her climbing down the last chunk is hilarious to me because I feel it’s the only acknowledgment the writers make to the ridiculously death defying feat they all just accomplished? ANYWAY.

We then get all the emotions when Octavia runs to Indra, and this relationship means the actual world to me if I’m honest. When you look back at how they started, and the genuine affection and respect between them now - particularly from Indra’s side - it’s actually incredible. Plus I am just STRAIGHT UP EUPHORIC that Indra is still around.

Their interaction regarding Pike is really subtle, and I love it. As much as I am sad to have lost Mike Beach (though he continues to be the absolute best), I also really do not have an issue with Octavia killing him. He executed Lincoln, and this world is messed up. I enjoy Octavia’s ‘I waited until it was over line’ even though it’s only just true (she almost screwed everybody over beforehand when she couldn’t control her urges), but I think the delivery is spot on. It was a struggle for Octavia to hold back. In the end, she needed it to be over. And Indra’s nod? Mostly, I see understanding there. But I’ll keep an eye on where these two go this season, because maybe there was also a little bit of sadness? We’ll see.

Bellarke instantly blow my mind

HONESTLY. I’m not exaggerating when I flail over them standing next to each other. It’s actually iconic at this point. STAND TOGETHER ALL THE TIME PLEASE.

Polis is a mess. Would be super great if it would just...get blasted out of existence sometime soon? *innocent emoji*

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THEIR OCTAVIA INTERACTION. I’M GONNA LIST WITHIN MY LIST.

1. I love that Clarke is looking to make him feel better, despite everything else on their plates. That’s the first thing we get from Clarke in Season 4 - her reassuring Bellamy.

2. I also love that Bellamy isn’t racing after Octavia to check in, to follow up, or even just to keep an eye on her. We see this throughout the episode, and I’ll talk about it more, but I really feel like the Blake relationship is going to step up in a big way, and in a way that it needs to. Bellamy is going to step back from Octavia, not from lack of love, but from the perspective that she can take care of herself. And maybe, for the first time in Bellamy’s life, he can lift a little of the burden of responsibility off his shoulders (I mean, that’s a joke obviously...because the world is ending, but you know).

3. AND when Clarke mentions that people will believe Pike had it coming, Bellamy responds with ‘maybe we all do.’ His head almost snaps around when Clarke says it, and it’s clear that he’s thinking if Pike deserved it, then so do I.

Okay, so moving on. We’ve known for a long time that Clarke was going to tell Bellamy before everyone else. I want to point it out again though. Because.

It’s Bellamy that suggests they hold back on sharing the end of the world news until they have more facts, and Clarke points out that he’s afraid of how people will react. Meg and I have just shared our podcast recap of 1x04, so the episode is vivid in my mind and I LOVE how this moment calls back to that episode. Back then Bellamy told Clarke ‘be smart about this’. She didn’t listen, and things went a bit tits up. It was the end of that episode that Bellamy and Clarke became partners with ‘from now on, we make the rules.’ And we see their evolution presented here. Clarke listens to Bellamy.

THEY ARE STANDING VERY CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER JUST SO YOU KNOW.

Bellamy loves to drop in shit jokes in terribad situations. I love it. It’s like he’s constantly trying to lighten the weight on Clarke’s shoulders. Like he cares for her happiness or some shit.

So Clarke listens to Bellamy as he reassures her. It’s step by step Clarke, one thing at a time. We get down, we go home, we figure it out (hey, remember the 3x16 script revealing to us that Clarke thought of Bellamy as she pulled the lever? And remember how she said ‘we’ll figure something out, we always do.’ It’s a little bit like this sort of moment was EXACTLY what she imagined) and we survive. We get a long shot of Clarke’s face when Bellamy finished talking, and it is all about her looking at him and just being so grateful for him. She needs him, more than anyone (yes, I believe more than she needs Abby and yes I believe more than she needed Lexa - sue me).

‘Thank you, for keeping me alive.’ SO AFTER THE FLAILING IS DONE, there is a ton to unpack here. Most obviously, Bob is a master of his face. Like, he does the whole I AM TAKEN ABACK thing so goddamn well. There’s also a sadness to Clarke that Eliza carries in this episode. She’s tired, and she’s mourning, and she’s scared. It’s beautiful to me that she took this moment, looking up at this stalwart beside her, and said those words. We see her thank Raven later too, and I wonder if this is perhaps the legacy of Clarke’s S3 arc. Love is weakness is truly gone. Will we see her be more open in general now, knowing that they might all be dead in six months anyway?

I talked about this already, but I’ll go again because lbr this recap won’t have anywhere near enough words in it if I don’t (L O L). I think we can take this thank you in its most literal sense, which is probably how Bellamy takes it. By that I mean that Clarke is thanking him for his solid work in 3x15 and 3x16, and then for all the other times that he has stepped in to save her. But I also think it throws back to her pulling the lever in 3x16 again, especially when you consider the script. In that scene, Clarke essentially chose life or death for everyone. It was thinking of Bellamy that gave her the strength to survive. He doesn’t know that, and he probably never will, but without him ALWAYS doing what he is doing in this very scene Clarke might have chosen differently.

No wonder they stick to each other like glue.

‘You don’t make it easy.’ *giggles*

I like the confirmation that the people Lexa killed in the CoL are dead IRL. I wonder if this is just put in there to tie up a loose end, or if it’s going to be relevant later?

I also like the spinning shot of Bellarke because I am who I am, and I am not ashamed.

CREDITS! I always thought it was spelled Zach tbh. Surely they wouldn’t put a typo in the credits for an actor’s name though? Right? RIGHT?

Arkadia kru!

THIS SCENE WAS SO CUTE. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. I’m like, give or take about Marper, but their shuffle dancing was adorable.

Jasper skidding in and pleading the chip was also adorable, but I’LL GET TO JASPER LATER.

RAVEN. HI RAVEN. HOW ARE YOU RAVEN. I LOVE YOU RAVEN.

Anybody else notice that Raven is almost a little bit S1 Clark in this moment? The others are taking a moment to chill, and savour their success. Raven is all business. We’ve all heard that Raven is going to have more of a leadership role this season, and I am already getting those vibes.

The moment between Jasper and Raven is wonderful and heartbreaking. Their scenes together last season were so lovely, and I really buy her checking in on him as she does here. I also think everything about Jasper in this moment is hella complex. I think he is happy that Raven is okay, but I also suspect he is incredibly jealous. He looks at her and her injury, knowing that she has ‘been through more than anyone’, and he sees how capable she is, how helpful she is, AND ALIE upgraded her brain on top of that? It must make him feel even worse about himself, even more useless. He’s beating himself up for not being as good as she is. But it’s not a competition, Jasper. It’s different people that deal with things in different ways. Oh my god I’m talking to him like he can hear me. YOU’LL BE OKAY JASPER.

‘There’s nothing like a little pain to remind you that you’re alive.’ LET ME WEEP. Also, NEVER say this to a person suffering from chronic pain. HOWEVER, as somebody that does suffer from it...I adore this line. I know that might sound like a contradiction, but this is the sort of shit that is inspiring when coming from the right source. And Raven is that source. She made it out, she survived. She can put things in perspective. Her pain is her choice, her life is her choice. AH.

‘Wish I could get an upgrade’ OH JASPER. I have complicated feelings about Jasper in this episode. I’ll get to it later.

RAVEN CHECKING THAT THE OTHERS HAVE LEFT AND THEN LETTING HERSELF REACT TO HER PAIN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. THANK YOU SHOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I refuse to speculate about Raven’s face fading into the skull, simply because a world in which Raven dies is not a world that I believe will ever exist. So I ain’t worried.

Bravenlarke Rises

Fucking Jaha.

Kane, you’re very kind. But ‘what have we done’? I don’t know if you can really take any of the blame for the CoL.

Kabby! Standing! People stand so well on this show.

Abby’s mum senses tingle, and we get some more classic Bellarke/Kabby because this show knows what it’s about and it’s FINE VESSELS.

And then BRAVENLARKE RISES. Bellamy and Clarke step away from the adults to chat to their BFF and there is SO MUCH HERE. MY GOD THIS RECAP IS GOING TO BE SO LONG I AM SO SORRY. I CAN’T BELIEVE ANY OF YOU WILL READ THE WHOLE THING. YIKES.

Also worth noting: Kabby observing Bellarke as they walk away.

FIRST AND FOREMOST - Raven wants to know if everyone is okay, AND ASKS AFTER CLARKE. And then CLARKE THANKS HER. You guys, we have been so goddamn deprived of Clarke and Raven. GIVE ME ALL OF IT PLEASE.

Clarke thanking Raven is also nice from the perspective that the show is acknowledging that Clarke wouldn’t have pulled any lever without Raven’s smarts.

ALSO, CLARKE PUTS BOTH HANDS OVER BELLAMY’S. NOTE THIS SHIT DOWN. I LIVE.

Bellarke split up here for no other reason than to set up the following scene with Echo, which honestly makes me laugh a lot.

ROAN IS ALIVE. I mean, this isn’t news but let’s YAY over it anyway.

Okay, so Echo grabs Clarke and Abby is all GASP and then from a million miles away Bellamy storms over, and the FURY in his face honestly gives me shivers. The point, the being held back by Kane, the ‘Bellamy, don’t’. Everybody in this bar knows in their own way that threatening Clarke is liable to set Bellamy the f off. And when you add the Echo/Gina to it all, it becomes ever more intense.

Much catching of Clarke. Much standing close.

Setting up the politics

Okay, so Echo is not about Skaikru and Azgeda have the numbers to back up their ire. Kane makes a lovely attempt at defending Clarke, but it doesn’t seem to faze Echo at all. We then meet random ambassador with spectacular eyes, and we then lose random ambassador when Echo slits her throat. I have a bit of an issue with this scene if I’m honest, because it feels a bit contrived. Echo JUST had a sword to Clarke’s throat, and no argument actually won her over. Yet she happily murders random ambassador? I’d argue that Echo spares Clarke because Bellamy is there and she feels residual guilt for what happened at Mt Weather...but then, she seems more than happy to see Clarke murdered later so that doesn’t add up. Essentially, I see the writer’s hands at work here.

‘Looks like saving the world will have to wait.’ *giggles* Also, HOW CLOSE ARE YOUR FACES HONESTLY.

Fucking Jaha.

Oh, hey Murphy! Nice to see you and your sass. And also nice to see you agree with me on the fucking Jaha front.

This Memori scene is super cute. I love the reminder that Emori was essentially banished by the grounders because of her deformity. I love Murphy calling his people his people, and thinking things are different now. I love how earnest and honest her is with her. And her acceptance. BUT THEN I GET SAD, BUT I’LL GET TO THAT LATER.

Family Gathering

So Abby sees Kane look at his crucifixion wounds, and we all remember that he was crucified because he wouldn’t let them hurt Abby. Paige nails Abby’s guilt, and the whole exchange is wonderfully tender. The best part of this scene is Clarke watching it happen. I love her little smile. She wants her mum to be happy, especially if the world is ending in six months. I also think there’s a little sadness in her expression. We can’t forget that Clarke was reunited with Lexa literally...what..an hour or so before this? I’m sure she’s thinking of Lexa here too.

KINDRA. The hug was everything.

Bellamy returns to Clarke’s side.

Octavia is SO SASSY IN THIS EPISODE MY GOD.

There’s a shot where Bellamy looks across at Clarke when she says ‘we have to save Roan’ that I really enjoy. Just thought I’d point it out.

Abby’s motherly intuition tells her that Clarke knows more than she does, but before Clarke informs the group she looks to Bellamy. He nods. THEY ARE A TEAM. And the truth is out there. They can’t afford a fight, nor do they have time for it. They need to save Roan and form some sort of truce with Azgeda if they have any hope of saving the world.

FUN FACT I actually did not at any point twig that it was Octavia in the bag, and that Jaha was in on the team effort. I truly thought he was just off doing some weird shit by himself. So I guess...I was pleasantly surprised? Good...good for you, Jaha?

Can’t say I was too emotionally impacted to see him get beat up though *shrug*. I mean, it wasn’t pleasant but whatever.

Bellamy, the Leader

Personally, I do not believe that Becho will happen. What I do see is the writer’s using Echo, and their history, as a means to bring Bellamy back to the forefront as a leader. Others have already mentioned the parallel to Clarke and Lexa here, and I totally see it. Because Echo will only deal with Bellamy, the show is allowed to pull back from just Clarke as representative of Skaikru. It’s actually pretty clever, and gives Bellamy a ton of agency outside of his partnership with Clarke. So, kudos.

GUYS I WAS JUST SO PLEASED WITH OCTAVIA THIS EPISODE. All the pre season stuff made it sound like she was going to be off on her own, and doing her own murderous thing. But her murderous thing is totally for her people! I love it! And yes, it is completely implausible that Octavia is suddenly a highly skilled ninja. I absolutely agree. But also, whatever. I accepted her sudden level up back in S2. I’m over it.

ABBY’S REACTION TO OCTAVIA’S MURDERS WAS HONESTLY AMAZING. I LAUGHED VERY HARD. More Abby/the Blakes please and thank you. Make the family complete.

Okay, so Murphamy lives. I love how Emori says she doesn’t like this, and Murphy’s reaction is IT’S OKAY, BELLAMY IS RIGHT THERE. And then as he approaches, Indra has to TELL BELLAMY TO PAY ATTENTION. Ahaha. Amazing.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT INDRA AND BELLAMY FOR A SECOND? LIKE. The last time they were alone together, Bellamy was chained to a wall and she hated his guts. And I mean, she probably still sort of hates his guts. But wow, progress. And progress on Bellamy’s part too. I actually think it says a lot for his self worth that he can stand there with her on such a level. It probably helps that his dad, and her BFF, is there too but still. IMPORTANT.

‘I know how you feel about her, but you can’t lose control’ was clearly put in to remind people that are less obsessed than us that Bellamy has a pretty solid reason to hate Echo. Much like we understand Octavia’s quest for vengeance re. Pike, we could understand Bellamy feeling the same here. But Bellamy has come out of S3 in a much better place than he started it, that’s for sure.

‘That’s probably because you’re not an idiot.’ Oh, Murphy.

AND THEN I GET REALLY SAD YOU GUYS. Bellamy gives Murphy his gun, in a throwback to S2 and like...I just....I GET it. It’s totally in character for Murphy to look at this situation brewing, to think of Emori, and to say screw it. IT TOTALLY IS. But I was really, really looking forward to Murphy being back with the group. And EVEN MORE THAN THAT I was looking forward to Emori meeting the group! Clarke and Emori scenes. Raven and Emori scenes. Bellamy and Emori scenes. GIVE IT TO ME. So I can’t help but be disappointed with Murphy here. And I really hope Memori aren’t off on their own for long. Maybe Murphy will have a change of heart? Maybe Memori have started back towards Arkadia? Maybe they will bump into Bellarke on the way? DOUBLE DATE?

‘I GOT THIS’ means everything, as does Bellamy’s power strut. HE’S BACK IN THE GAME. I’m sure he’s still full of self loathing, but it’s not crippling him like it was. He is finding his self worth again.

I actually don’t find it at all surprising that Echo seems to genuinely care for Bellamy’s opinion. She saw his courage and his strength and his compassion in Mt Weather. He saved her and all of the others that were trapped there. He is a good, in her eyes. But as Bellamy says, it’s not that easy. At the end of the day, Gina died because Echo betrayed Bellamy. You don’t just apologise for something like that. And while I don’t personally care for Gina (so so so scandalous - note: I care that the writers created the character just to kill her, but it was so obviously going down that way that I never formed an attachment. Sue me) her memory won’t just disappear.

Bob nails this scene by the way. He told the others that he had this, and he does. He IS control. But you can still see his anger in the stiff way he holds himself, the furrow of his brow, the occasional gulp, and the deliberate way that he talks.

OH LOOK. OCTAVIA LOVES HER BROTHER AND DOESN’T WANT HIM TO DIE.

Bellamy’s reaction to the Trikru massacre is ALSO on point, and I like that Echo had no idea he was there. She almost looks a little bit excited by it. Murder clearly turns her on.

‘The alternative is war. Is that what you want?’ makes me think of the Bellarke fight in 3x05 and I had to mention it because if I am feeling these emotions, you should be too.

Oh, btw, during all of this Clarke and Abby are trying to save Roan. I bring it up because I LOVE THE MOTHER/DAUGHTER BONDING IN THIS EP. GRIFFIN LADIES FTW.

And then we see the sliiiiightest break in Bellamy’s composure. Echo turns to leave, and he grabs her arm saying ‘I wasn’t done talking’’ and the delivery does things to me. But then, oops. Bellamy is on the floor with a knife at his throat. And the ANGER. The ANGER in his eyes. OOF.

Sex and giggles and SADNESS

The Marper scene is cute. Like...I don’t know, it came out of nowhere so I’m not emotionally invested. But I want both characters to be happy, so yay.

Raven interrupting them eternally is my fave. Her delivery of ‘we’re all gonna die’ is also my fave.

Okay, let’s tackle Jasper being about to kill himself. It’s clear that the writers were going to kill Jasper off in S3, but decided against it. Cool. I’m glad. So why go for an attempt of suicide here after the lovely Jonty scene in the S3 finale? Because it’s not just that they postponed the storyline, because Jasper DOESN’T kill himself. It’s NEW story. I’ll jump ahead now to Raven revealing the radiation truth to them (kinda loving that ALL the delinquents know btw) and Jasper’s reaction. I personally kinda like it? I mean, I’m withholding judgement until I’ve seen more. But in this episode alone? I like that he has a different reaction to the others, and that - weirdly - knowing that he’s doing to die makes him want to live? The thing that stops me getting really excited is being fairly convinced that Jasper WILL die this season, but if they handle the death right (I still have faith) then I might actually like this arc? I JUST DON’T KNOW BASICALLY. (Jasper’s soundtrack theme is so haunting and wonderful).

Devon is really knocking it out of the park btw.

I’m intrigued by what will come of Echo and Roan. I’d pin Echo as the season’s villain, but from Tasya’s interviews it doesn’t seem to be what’s coming.

Will Roan cauterise his own wounds with blades once per season? Excellent.

Hell in a cell (not really an apt subheading, I just wanted to use it)

All right, let’s do this.

The conversation between Abby and Clarke is important on so many levels. Firstly, these two haven’t had such a moment in so long. It’s just plain nice to see. It’s also INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT to see Clarke talk about her love for Lexa, in a room full of people, and to have her mother just smile and understand. It ain’t no thing, and that’s quality representation for so many people.

I’ve also already mentioned that while we’ve had months to get over 3x16, the events we witnessed have JUST HAPPENED in the shows timeline. Seeing Lexa and then losing her again is fresh in Clarke’s mind. I mean, she hasn’t even had one night to sleep on it. Of course, she’s upset.

AND I talked about this in Season 3 but I will never understand why so many people give Clarke shit for being attached to the chip. I know we’re all different, but it’s really quite normal to attach emotional significance to objects. In this case, I’d say it’s particularly justified.

The camera then hops to Kane watching Bellamy, and then closes in on Bellamy’s face. I’ve seen all the different interpretations, so here’s my take.

Overall, I think Bellamy is feeling compassion and empathy for somebody that he loves. He doesn’t want Clarke to be sad or hurting! It hurts him to see her that way, and to not be able to help. I do think that there is a layer of something else there though, but I’m loathe to call it jealousy. Jealousy sounds so...so negative. I am very much in the camp that Bellamy is aware, on some level, that he is in love with Clarke. But I also believe that he isn’t remotely thinking about it ever actually happening between them, and he’s okay with that. So not jealousy as such...but a twinge, let’s say. A slight twisting of the stomach and a twinge of the heart.

I’ve also seen the suggestion that he’s looking towards Octavia, and eh. I mean, perhaps. But for me the most important thing about this scene is that the writers chose to include it, and chose to showcase it in the way that they did. I think if they wanted us to know that Bellamy was thinking about Octavia, we would have seen a shot of her after Bellamy. We didn’t. Which tells me that the intention of the scene was for us to connect Clarke to Kane watching Bellamy to Bellamy reacting to Clarke.

In which case - SQUEE.

And then we get my absolute fave moment, because it was one of the few Bellarke scenes that wasn’t spoiled in one way or another - and that is Bellamy’s freak out when Echo takes Clarke. There’s honestly not much to say at this point. Obviously, he’d react that way. Obviously, Bob would nail it. But I’d like to draw attention to the writer’s intention once more here. We get a brief shot of Abby’s reaction, but the majority of the scene focuses on Bellamy’s reaction. Important.

Clarke, Crown, Chip

‘It’s always something with you, isn’t it.’ ‘This will be good.’ LOL FOREVER.

I can’t wait for Clarke and Roan to be BFFs.

‘Science is our only hope’ HEY IT’S LIKE THE REAL WORLD.

Clarke giving up the chip is a lovely scene. She does it for the sake of all, and ultimately I doubt it was that much of a struggle for her. Mostly, I think it makes her sad. Poor Clarke.

I also do think this a symbolic closing of the door re. Lexa. Which isn’t to say I don’t think she will be mentioned or referenced again this season, but it will be sporadic and only in relation to pushing forward other relationships or story arcs.

THE COALITION IS FORMED.

Until another Nightblood ascends? Where you at Luna.

Once again, we get a shot of Bellamy taking in Clarke’s reaction to the flame. The two of them are so in tune, it’s ridiculous.

We also get a shot of the woman who shouts out during Roan’s speech, and then Indra looking around. So...Indra’s daughter, yes? If not her daughter, then somebody significant. VERY excited to meet her next episode. And I’m intrigued as to how she might interact with Octavia.

The youth inherit the earth!!!!!!!

So the last scene with Echo bothers me just because I think Echo’s line about trust is stupid after everything she has done, at such an early point. Like...maybe if you had just saved his life (something I feel will inevitably happen at some point this season) and that just makes the scene feel really obvious. I am adamant that there will be no romance here, but I do see a future where the show will take Bellamy towards forgiving her. Please show, handle this well.

On the other hand, if I hadn’t read Tasya’s interview, I might take Bob’s delivery of ‘I doubt it’ as the final nail in the coffin, and confirmation that this is done. It’s cold, collected. Perfect.

Family pow wow!!

Octavia sass and then, ‘this is serious, O’ and again I sense a different Bellamy here in relation to Octavia. Further emphasised by his leaving without insisting on a hug, or even a lingering look. It’s like...he’s there, and he’s observing, and he’s contributing...but the relationship between them is on her now. Or something.

This is emphasised again by the parental goodbyes to Bellarke. Clarke and Abby is lovely as ever, so now let me turn to the scene between Kane and Bellamy.

I was surprised to see there was so much ‘controversy’ over this scene. I definitely did not take it as Kane admonishing Bellamy, or Kane implying that Bellamy did not deserve to live or that everything was Bellamy’s fault. I very much took it as Kane speaking from past experience, and knowing that Bellamy has a tendency to blame himself. It’s advice from the heart, and well meaning.

That being said, it has all the subtlety of being smashed in the face with a frying pan. That’s my issue with it. It reminds me of Bellamy spelling out his arc to Pike in 3x16. I was okay with that one because fandom last season had proven that it needed to be spelled out. I was hoping we could do away with such over explaining this season though.

I would have much preferred Kane placing a hand on Bellamy’s shoulder, the two of them nodding at each other, Kane saying ‘take care of yourself’, and then A GODDAMN HUG.

When Kane says ‘you’ll deserve to survive’ and Abby looks up at him - HEY SEASON 1 THROWBACK I SEE YOU.

Bellamy’s ‘I hope so’ is really important to me. He WANTS to live, to survive, to earn happiness again.

The shot of Clarke witnessing the moment is ALSO VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. again, they are just so in tune with each other, with their emotions, with their headspaces. Slay me.

Anyway.

I’ve always said that Bellarke will usher in a new age on earth, but like….YOOOOO I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SO EXPLICITLY STATED ON SHOW. FUCKING YES.

I also LOVE Abby’s ‘they have six months to save it.’ Gone are the days of her trying to step in and be an adult for the children. Kabby are stepping back. They are keeping an eye on the politics of things. Saving the world? That’s for Bellarke and the delinquents.

‘SO WHAT NOW, PRINCESS?’

Look, here’s the deal. I am so okay with Princess coming back in this moment. FIRSTLY, after an episode which really emphasises the S1ness of Bellarke in so many ways, the use of the old nickname really drives that home. But it also drives home how far they have come since then. It’s a light hearted moment, a joke, a tool again for Bellamy to lift Clarke’s burdens.

(Plus, Jason recently confirmed that the whole point of the Princess nickname between Bellarke was Han x Leia inspired so like HOW CAN I NOT LOVE THAT.)

AND IT WORKS. She is so clearly surprised, and delighted by it! She struts, she smirks! Walking out of Polis with Bellamy calling her Princess has her feeling all kinds of badass.

And I also love how lots of you have pointed out the contrast between everyone else, even Kane, calling her Wanheda. I LOVE IT AND I AGREE. Before Polis, before the grounders, Bellamy was there - and he’s still there now.

Fucking Jaha.

Sun Kissed Skin in BALER

It’s actually my first time to travel.

Not literally the first time but in a sense that I’m the one who planned it, paid for it, and my parents was not with me.

Before I even got out of college, its been in my TO DO LIST to travel! And so I did, and my first destination was...

BALER!

I was with my cousins together with their partner! YES PO! cousinS, with s! Partner-partner ang dating bes! Good thing was I brought my bestfriend with me! So alam nyo na ang LIFE SAVER ng mga SINGLE! And another good thing was her boyfriend didn’’t come to our trip, if ever that he did joined us, BIGTI NA AKO BES! Hahaha but still it was worth every penny I paid which is Php 1,650.00!

So here’s a question for you, what is the first thing that comes in your mind when you heard BALER? Mine was SURFING! But then it’s just one of the things you can do in BALER, there are so many things you can experience in BALER and so many memories can be made to treasure.

So let’s start this ADVENTURE!

Our trip was 2 days 1 night trip. From Manila to Baler our travel time was 6 hours, we left Manila by 12 midnight and arrive at our 1st destination by 6am!

- - -DAY 1- - -

FIRST STOP: THE OLD BALETE TREE - MILLENIUM TREE!

Medyo disoriented pa ako nung bumababa kami ng sasakyan kasi chikka to the max kami ni bestfriend sa byahe kasi ang tagal naming hindi nagkasama, masyadong busy sa kanya-kanyang life so hindi ko pa na-a-appreciate and I was like “pwede bang matulog na lang ako”pero si bff “baba na daw tayo!”. Dahil I don’t have a choice and sayang naman kung hindi ko titignan bumaba na ako to look at the tree, and after a minute or two of staring in the tree I was like “Bat ba ang bagal nateng bumaba?!” Hahahaha nagising talaga ako. The tree was old and was very beautiful. I’m a kind of person who love and appreciate old or vintage things kaya naman the old Balete Tree captured me! The place is very INSTAGRAMMABLE! Umanggulo ka lang and pak ganern may pang IG post ka na. One more thing ibabalik ka ng punong ito sa childhood mo. Paano? Aakyatin mo kasi ang puno just to have IG worthy picture, and seriously ang saya nyang akyatin. Medyo madulas nga lang nung inakyat namin sya kasi medyo umulan before kami dumating, so if ever ma-experience nyo din sya all you have to do is be CAREFUL! 1st stop palang injured ka na pano pa ibang destination di ba? And may mga tao dun na very helpful, kasi katulad namin 8 kami pero laging 7 lang sa pic or selfie na lang but then may isa dun lumapit samin and helped us to take our picture. Then may panorama pics pa kami na ang galing ng kuha (see pictures below), and pwede mo din pasukin ang loob ng Balete Tree but may bayad sya I think 5 or 10 pesos per head pero hindi na kami tumuloy kasi ang daming tao sa loob so picture taking na lang kami sa labas! And yung helpful na kuya na kumuha ng picture namen hindi naman sya nagpabayad pero dahil ang ganda ng kuha nya samin binigyan namin sya ng tip.

SECOND STOP: MOTHER FALLS

So ito na po, liguan portion na i-ready nyo na ang mga swimsuits nyo pero if ako ang tatanungin mag rush guard na lang kayo. So ang Mother Falls po ay hindi nasa bukana ng gubat malayo-layo ang lakarin kaya naman nagbreakfast muna kami before kami maglakbay (yes ang lalim! hahaha) and may kasama po kayong tour guide and may parang entrance fee kayo mga 50 pesos I think. So dahil umaga na nagbreakfast muna kami, mura naman sya, depende sa kakainin nyo kasi ako I was satisfied with itlog na maalat na may kamatis and 2pcs. BBQ na bagong luto with one rice na nagkakahalaga ng 50 pesos o di ba ang mura? Pero syempre you have other choices like hotdog, gulay and mga lutong bahay na ulam. After namin kumain magpapahughog naman kami kaya sinimulan na namin ang paglalakad and along the way may nadaanan kaming Owl na ang cute cute! Harry Potter agad ang na-isip ko syempre picturan si Owl di ba? (see photos below). May 30-40 minutes ang lakad papuntang Mother Falls so magdala na po kayo ng tubig, towel, and phone cover (ung pang tubig hindi ko kasi alam ang tawag hehe). Along the way madadaan ang Shower Falls and Baby Falls, yes may anak po si Mother Falls. Yung Shower Falls hindi mo masyadong mapapansin kasi maliit lang sya so parang dadaan-daanan mo lang sya, si Baby Falls naman yun yung madadaanan mo before ka makarating ng Mother Falls pero hindi na kami lumapit masyado dun kasi mahirap yung daanan nya masyadong madulas pababa pa naman. And also because its nature of course may mga IG Worthy pictures nanaman kayo and mga buwis buhay na picture taking pang post lang. Pagdating ng Mother Falls you’ll be amazed ang ganda kasi nya talaga. And beware para pong umuulan dun sa lakas ng bagsak ng tubig and another beware para pong nagyeyelo ang tubig nya as in good luck sayo kung naka two piece swimsuit ka, pero kung keri mo naman edi GO! Medyo mabato din sya and may pagkamalalim so ingat ingat na lang sa mga hindi marunong lumangoy. Of course dahil tubig yun medyo madulas na po ang mga bato dahil sa lumot kaya naman kailangan talagang mag-ingat! After namin dun balik na ulit kami sa entrace and pagdating namin dun tuyo na kami and gutom so madami namang sasalubong sayong pagkain mamimili ka na lang at bibili and ang trinay ko was tupig 5 pesos sya pero malaman kaya naman sulit ang bayad mo.

After going to Mother Falls we checked in first in the transient house and okay naman yung transient house comfy sya and with aircon naman. Ang na amaze nanaman ako is that walang patayan ang tubig nila kasi galing pa sya dun sa falls so MALIMIG din sya! And isa lang tumatakbo sa isip ko nun ang sarap maligo sa Baler pagsummer kasi ang lamig ng tubig nila! Presko sa pakiramdam kahit hindi ka na mag-aircon keri na yun. Pagkadating dun kanya-kanyang palitan ang gora na sa kainan! Ang dahil masyado kaming matipid sa turo-turo kami kumain pero sulit ang bayad mo! Si kuya Teddy (yung driver ng van na sinasakyan namin) ang nagdala samin dun isang row sila ng kainan and halos mga grilled seafood and pork ang meron sila pero meron pa din namang ibang lutong bahay. So tipid-tipid kaya kami ni BFF share sa dalwang ulam, umorder kami ng isang inihaw liempo na kami ang pumili medyo malaki sya and malaman talaga and bagong lutong inihaw na pusit na malaki din and rice and tig-125 lang kami which is ok na din kasi compare sa price sa Manila ok na yun mga fresh naman talaga ihahain sayo.

THIRD SPOT: SABANG BEACH

We came at Sabang Beach around 2pm and left by around 6pm. Medyo makulimlim pa nun pero sige lang kami kasi may kakilala naman na si Kuya Teddy kaya meron din kaming upuan, lamesa and payong by the beach. And of course dito po ang SURFING! YES daming Surfer sa paligid may mga beginners meron din namang yung marunong na talaga. And kami umaura lang. Hindi na kami nagtry mag-surf, nakontento na kaming magpicture with the surf board hehehe. Pero kahit hindi namin na-try magsurfing naturuan ko naman ang bestfriend kong magpa-alon which is papadala ka lang sa alon. Pero meron pa din namang mga times na nakakain kami ng alon sa laki na nya. And dahil makulimlim ng dumating kami bumuhos na din ang ulan and tuloy pa din kami sa tubig kahit ganun! Basa na din naman ano pang pinagka-iba kung maulanan di ba? And kasama yan sa experience. Maglibot-libot lang kayo and makakahanap din kayo ng IG worthy spot para magpicture. And kung may pangtubig naman kayong camera or may cover naman against sa tubig ang phone nyo sa beach na mismo kayo magpicture, habang na-alon! Speaking of alon, muntik na din akong matamaan ng surf board sa mukha kasi dalwang alon na magkasunod ang dumating din hindi napansin nung nagsusurf na yung pwesto nya katapat ng pwesto ko kaya naman tinabig ko ang surf board nya para mapigilan ko, kesa naman tumama saken, kaya ingat-ingat pa din po sa pagpapa-alon! And dahil nasa beach kami may moments ang mga lovers kay naman kami ni bestfriend pose pose na lang! Hahahahaha. If nagugutom naman kayo may Shawarma Stand malapit sa entrance and guaranteed masarap po sya and nag-ooffer din sila ng Shawarma Burger must try!

And after Sabang Beach we decided to eat dinner first before heading back to the transient house para naman diretso pahinga na din kami. dun pa din kami kumain sa kinainan namen nung lunch, this time iba naman ang inorder namin maliban sa inihaw na liempo, inihaw na tuna belly and tanigue and it cost 145pesos per head, good for sharing naman yung order namin and fresh and bagong luto pagbinibigay.

- - -DAY 2- - -

We had free breakfast on our second day courtesy of the owner of the transient house. We got hotdog, egg and rice for breakfast with newly cooked chicharon! Yes CHICHARON! Yung tinutuluyan kasi namin nagluluto sila ng chicharon nila then binebenta nila which is mabenta naman daw. Usually ubos daw lahat ng luto nila sa isang araw. Pero MASARAP talaga ang Chicharon nila and crispy pa!

And our adventure continues...

FIRST STOP: HANGING BRIGDE

Maganda sya pomise kaso nga lang di namin sya na-try kasi inaayos sya, may sira daw kasi gawa ng bagyo so sad life kami. Pero kahit may keep out sa hagdanan papunta sa hanging bridge gora pa din kami makapag-picture lang. See pictures below!

SECOND STOP: ERMITA HILLS

Gusto mong makakita ng magandang view? Ermita Hills is the best place for you! Ermita Hills ang pinakataas na lugas sa Baler kasi noon nagkabaha sa Baler sa Ermita Hills daw ang pinaka-safe na lugar. And para mas maganda ang view na makita mo and medyo kakaiba ang picture mo, sa naputol na puno and maganda ang view sa likod lakadin mo ang 268 steps ng Ermita Hills pagdating mo sa dulo may isang malaking Krus if hindi mo pa din feel dun lakarin mo pa yung trekking path meron kang makikitang punong naputol dun ang Sabang Beach ang view mo sa likod if magpicture ka!

THIRD STOP: ANIAO ISLETS

Bukod sa Mother Falls and Sabang Beach isa din sa favorite spots ko ang Aniao Islets! Ang ganda kasi nya talaga ang buti na lang hindi ako nakasapatos kaya keri lang ang maglakad sa tubigan. Ang ganda nya talaga tapos white sand sya. Then may mga maliliit na isda pa kahit sa may pangpang. But kelan maging maingat kasi mababato and madulas ang bato. Pero para sa pictures hala sige sugod sa tubigan at batuhan!

FOURTH STOP: DOÑA AURORA’S HOUSE, BALER CHURCH, AND MUSEO DE BALER

Doña Aurora of Baler ang asawa ng dating Presidente Manuel L. Quezon. Ang bahay nila ay maganda at maaliwalas, as in gusto ko ng tirhan. Sana ganun na lang bahay namin. May mga facts and articles about Doña Aurora and former President Manuel Quezon. Ang Baler Church naman ay nasa tapat lang ng bahay ni Doña Aurora. And uso sa Baler ang may mga nagbebenta ng mga gulay, prutas at iba’t iba pang pag-kain sa labas ng simbahan which is hindi naman na masyadong makikita naten sa mga simbahan. Sa likod naman ng Baler Church ang Museo De Baler, mga artifacts and iba’t ibang mga gamit noong sinauna ang makikita dito. Sa first floor mga lumang gamit, coins, mapa ng Baler, pictures ng pagbabago ng Baler, at mga gamit na ginamit sa movie entitled “Baler” under Viva Films pati na din ang awards na natanggap ng pelikula. second floor naman ay halos mga painting ang makikita at iba pang aart work. Meron din exhibit ng pictures ng iba’-ibang ibon. Isang napakagandang kultura ang meron ang Baler!

After our 4th stop, kumain na kami ng Lunch and we tried Gerry Shan’s Place. Eat-all-you can place for only 200 pesos.Sulit na yun from appetizer to main course to dessert to drinks! Piece of advise para naman sulit na sulit nyo ang 200 pesos mag-SEAFOOD na kayo! Masarap ang luto nila pero nadenggoy ako ng tokwa nila ang akala ko tokwa lang din oyster sauce ganern or pero yun pala pinaulanan ng sili. But I love their Ensaladang Paco tapos madaming salted egg. Sulit ang 200 pesos mo sa kanila.

LAST STOP: SOUVENIR SHOP

Para sa mga pasalubongbumili ako ng the usual 10 pesos keychain, then wallet na parang bayong na maliliit, shirts of course and sando para sa mga pamangkin ko, drawstring bag, mug, shot glass, and ref magnet which is what I love the most. Para sa murang souvenirs mag-ikot-ikot ka lang around sa may simbahan and makipagbaratan ka lang and you can have it!

So I think if you have Php 3,000.00 you can tour Baler for 2 days and 1 night and may souvenirs ka pa. But if sa tingin mo kulang then dagdagan mo na lang budget mo. Okay lang ang maypasobrang budget wag lang magkulang!

4x02 Recap - Heavy Lies the Crown (The 100)

This was a quality episode. It’s not gonna jump on to my all time faves list, possibly because pretty much everything was spoiled beforehand (can’t wait to be past the screener eps, honestly), but it was some high calibre shit.

Warning: I am in a foul and irritable mood. If this recap is saltier than usual, I apologise. Unless you like salt, in which case - I did it especially for you!

Onwards...

- NOTE: They fixed Zach’s name in the credits. My question is, how the hell was that mistake ever allowed to happen. My god.

Anyway...

Radioactive, Radioactive

- The butterflies are back! I am HERE for throwing back to the S1 radioactive imagery. Could it be that we will see random dude from S2 again at some point? A GIRL CAN DREAM.

- So this whole opening sequence was seriously rad. We got to see ALIE again. Who knew that would excite me so much (Erica’s performance is just so damn good), we got to hear Tree Adam’s awesome soundtrack again, and we got a pretty brilliant introduction to Ilian. I gave exactly zero shits about RILEY later on in the episode, but I am instantly a fan of this dude.

- I also think it’s worth pointing out that his trauma must be EXTREME. He murdered his family. Yes, he wasn’t in control. But he can remember every damn moment. I doubt he will remain an antagonist forever, but I can’t say I blame him for being seriously fucked up and needing to expel that fucked up ness through violence and rage.

LET’S TALK KABBY

- THIS WHOLE SCENE WAS WONDERFUL.

- It’s legit pretty rad that an older couple get to have proper on screen sexy times on a ‘teen’ show. Kudos! It’s hawt.

- Paige Turco’s legs. Damn.

- ‘You are a terrible influence’ has me asking SO MANY QUESTIONS. I WANT TO SEE MISCHIEVOUS KANE PLEASE. THE KANE THAT OPERATES WHEN HIS CHILDREN AREN’T AROUND TO SEE HIM ACTING ANYTHING LESS THAN WISE.

- ALSO when Abby said Roan was expecting her...was I the only one whose mind swept off into an AU where Abby is like...the king’s wife, but she’s getting it on with one of his most trusted Ambassadors and it’s a tale of star crossed lovers and... @kane-and-griffin SURELY YOU WENT THERE?

- Kane’s smile while she has her back to him is just lovely.

- AND THEN the whole interaction with the necklace is just wonderful. Abby will never stop loving Jake, she will never stop missing him. But she is allowed to move on. Knowing that won’t stop her feeling guilty though, at least for a little while. Her hesitation is true to real life, and Kane’s gentle understanding is absolutely exquisite. He is not at all fazed by the spectre of her dead husband, to the point that he does not hesitate to help her put the necklace back on. And Abby does not express her gratitude with words, but with a kiss - her own gentle reminder to him that despite that guilt that is impossibly to not feel, she knows that she wants him. That she wants this.

The T Kru

- So we check in with the new peeps. We have the leader who is alllll about taking out King Roan. I think it’s important to note Ilian pointing out that he only wants revenge against Skaikru, and not the king.

- HEY LURKING LURKER WHO MIGHT YOU BE?

- Just kidding, it is clearly Octavia and I am about to be controversial...are you ready?

- Yes, Octavia looks like a badass, and angel of death, a vixen ready to get a mixen. HOWEVER...isn’t the point of an assassin meant to be that they are inconspicuous? If she wants to fade into the background and eavesdrop on conversations...if she wants her identity to remain secret for more than two minutes...shouldn’t she dress like everybody else? The cape is stunning but also....VERY UNIQUE COMPARED TO EVERYTHING ELSE WE HAVE EVER SEEN ON THIS SHOW.

- ANYWAY nobody notices her REALLY UNIQUE CAPE and Octavia learns vital information. The T Kru are going to challenge Roan to combat. Which, normally might be sweet, but Roan was shot - remember?

- God, I hate that crown. FREE ZACH’S BROW 2K17.

- ‘Now that the lift has been repaired’ AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA *wheezes* Okay, show.

- I just want to point out that Octavia is still wearing Niylah’s clothes. JUST POINTING IT OUT LEAVE ME ALONE.

- Octavia has continuous smug face going on this season and I love it. Echo, perhaps, is not such a fan.

- ‘You’ll lose. Lexa kicked your ass...’ ROAN’S FACE AHAHAHA. And Kane’s reaction is priceless too. I am living for a season of Octavia just straight talking 24/7.

- Roan, Octavia and Kane are a squad I can get behind. Kane is going to try for diplomacy...we’ll see how that goes...

ADVENTURE SQUAD ASSEMBLE

- Clarke’s look is fucking great, I love it so much. It is hints of S1 whilst also being fresh. I am a staunch defender of most of season 3. I think the overarching...arcs... were necessary and well placed. But lawwwwd it is nice to see Clarke back at home, and looking like Clarke again.

- This scene really nicely sets up the differing stances of Bravelarke. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong. The back and forth is really nicely done. It’s all very head, heart, and hands I must say.

- ‘A choice your dad died for’ RAVEN REYES, SLYTHERIN.

- Clarke’s expression and voice get super fierce here. It makes me so sad for her considering the end of the episode. So Raven is Jake, Clarke is Jaha, and Bellamy is Abby? I’m for it.

- The real MVP of this scene is Monty, and I love how he isn’t actively part of the conversation that the ‘leaders’ are having, but his mind is constantly working. While the others are going around in circles, Monty thinks up a solution.

- ‘We’re standing in our viable solution.’ The way they all look around at the Ark which was both salvation and prison for them, all hopeful and wide eyed...IDK my dudes, it gives me the heart feelings.

Checking in with the other delinquents...

- Something about Bellamy going to Miller and Bryan gives me feelings, mostly bc of the knowledge that Bellamy and Miller are BFFs. RIGHT.

- Bryan is recovering remarkably well. I somehow doubt you should ever base gunshot wound recovery times off of this show folks.

- Bryan gets more character in this episode than he has at any other point. Jonathan does a really fantastic job of portraying his trepidation, his anger, and his general level of irritation at Miller.

- I LOVE THE PIKE CONVERSATION. IT IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT. It’s also super important that what Octavia did is referred to as murder here. Last episode we had Clarke assure Bellamy that Pike had it coming. I think that was said, for the most part, to make Bellamy feel better. But this show is nothing if not fair when it comes to showcasing all sides of things. Pike was, in most respects, a hero and saviour to Bryan. And he was elected Chancellor, fairly. It’s not a simple situation.

- ‘To save you, Nate.’ I’m not hardcore Briller or anything, but the delivery here was spot on. Annnnnd I actually think super important in establishing Bryan’s character some more. We all know Bryan will be heading out the door sooner or later, but I still appreciate how the shows likes to give any and all characters depth.

- The hug and no kiss thing is...weird. There can be no denying.

- JASPER’S WHOLE SHOWER SCENE. I FORGET HOW GOOD DEVON IS AT COMEDY.

- MONTY’S APPALLED FACE.

- HONESTLY THOUGH. When Jasper says ‘Monty’ all serious and turns off the shower, I CACKLE. And then ‘look at me’ I’M TRYING NOT TO. BLESS YOU LOVELY CHILDREN.

- As things stand, I am loving where the show has taken Jasper post 4x01. And I’m intrigued to see where it goes.

- MAYBE MONTY DID GRAB THE WEED. IDK HOW OR WHEN. BUT MAYBE.

- Obviously the best part of this scene is THE JONTY HIGH FIVE. HUZZAH.

- ‘Hey, you wanna hug?’ *giggles*

ADVENTURE SQUAD ASSEMBLE

- MONTY AND RAVEN’S INTERACTION IS SO WONDERFUL. THEY’RE ALL LIKE TEAM BRAIN, AND THEN MONTY POINTS OUT RAVEN’S BOOM FETISH, AND THEN THE I GOT THIS AND THE SHOULDER PAT AND THE JOKE.

- I LOVE ALL OF THEM SO MUCH.

- Okay, so Bellarke. There is this super brief shot after Clarke hands over the whatever whing, where Bellamy looks away from her and she just STARES AT HIM YOU GUYS. HER FACE IS SO WARM AND FOND AND GLOWY. I’VE NOT SEEN ANYONE ELSE MENTION THIS MILLISECOND FRAME BUT IT’S EVERYTHING.

- I’m personally not of the opinion that Bob intentionally winked, I think it’s just a face thing. BUT THERE CAN BE NO DENYING THE CUTE. WHO KNEW THAT IF BELLARKE ACTUALLY GOT TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER THEY’D GO RIGHT BACK TO THE DORKY JOKES AND THE ADORING EYE SMILES.

- WHAT IS THAT SHOT OF MONTY AND HARPER WATCHING THEM.

- Bellamy is so...energised this season? I’m fully loving it. I’m sure his self loathing is absolute, but he’s channelling it in such a positive way since he got to unload at Pike in 3x16. Clarke doesn’t have that same energy though, and you can almost see more of her own seep away as she watches him leave.

- Also, another cute Raven and Monty nod. I POINT OUT ALL THE DETAILS OKAY. MAKE YOU READ ALL THE WORDS.

- That was a quick trip.

- The Marper hand hold is cute.

- Things go to shit pretty fast! Bellamy is all about making sure everybody else chills out in this episode. Even when he gets smacked upside the head, he is DEDICATED TO THE CAUSE.

- BELLAMY SPEAKING TRIG YO.

- It’s not my place to talk about in depth, but the casting of extras and small bits parts on this show feels remarkably diverse compared to literally everything else I watch.

- We get a clear indication that the Ice Nation are not particularly fond of their King.

- Personally...I don’t reallyyyyy get why they back down? But whatever. I guess the leader does at least slightly fear the king?

PRINCESS MECHANIC RISE

- Okay, so Raven having to do her first mini boss speech and feeling all awkward and overwhelmed is the start of what will end up being another amazing arc. I FEEL IT IN MY BONES.

- SINCLAIRRRRR. But we do at least see now why he kind of needed to die. Kabby must, obviously, be protected at all costs. However, this show very much is about the 100 (+ Raven and Bellamy). Raven has to rise to the occasion in his absence.

- This conversation between Raven and Clarke is EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. It reminds me so much of S1 and ‘I’d pick you first.’ GAH. Just seeing them working together, and supporting each other means so much. Neither of them really know what they’re doing, but they’re doing it anyway. MORE. GIVE ME MORE.

- Fucking Jaha.

- Okay, FINE. Jaha having actual relevance to main characters is infinitely more interesting than Jaha out on his own doing his own wild things.

- I LOVE RAVEN BRINGING UP THE WRIST THING, AND CLARKE FINDING THE STRENGTH WITHIN TO POINT OUT THAT JAHA WAS ALSO CHIPPED. But Raven is having NONE of that. Remember that Jaha, at ALIEs behest, zoned in on Raven. She was the key. He went after her, after her injury, preyed on her pain. No wonder she is seething. Jaha’s zen owning of all his crimes is...vaguely interesting, I guess.

- Sort the scrap you dumb dumb.

OH MY GOD, RILEY? RILEYYYY? IS THAT YOU?

- Even if preview articles and teasers hadn’t already given away what Bellamy’s choice would be, as soon as we saw that little girl we all know he was saving the slaves, right?

- The appearance of the slaves strikes me as entirely random and contrived though. Why would the Ice Nation have massacred so many of Farm Station if they had a legitimate use for them? Whatever.

- So, Riley! Definitely in to the idea of him and Bryan having a history together, and the two of them rowing off into some off screen happiness together later in the season. I’m sure, given time, Riley may grow on me. This show does a remarkable job of making me care about everyone. But at this point I feel nothing. I’m all in with Ilian, and intrigued by Kenza...Riley, not so much.

- Everything about Echo and Roan’s sparring is attractive. EVERYTHING.

- I’m sorry, but Abby is totally checking Roan out in all of her reaction shots. That, or she’s fantasising about Kane.

- ‘If you can’t help me, why the hell are you still here.’ That clearly influences Abby’s decision to leave later.

- So, I didn’t talk about Roan and Echo much earlier because I LOVE THIS SCENE HERE. I’m so intrigued by where the show is going with these two. It’s a huge deal that Roan trusts her with the radiation information. I suppose it might not be trust per se, perhaps more like necessity - but still! And I also think it means a lot that Echo seems truly dedicated to helping him. As was said in 4x01, she’s very loyal. It’s proving true so far.

- Echo at Arkadia. Now, that will be interesting.

Octavia, back at it again with the sass and the smirks.

- Kane makes a valiant attempt at diplomacy! He points out that while Arkadia might have helped spread the CoL, they also destroyed it and saved humanity.

- When that doesn’t work, Octavia employs an intimidating lead with some shit talking. Solid tactics, O.

- NIYTAVIA FOR LIFE...but in the meantime, we’re calling it Butterfly Assassin?

- ‘Well that went well.’ Kane’s look up at her is just like, DON’T.

- CLARKE MY LOVE. I AM SO SAD FOR YOU. HEAVY LIES THE CROWN INDEED. IT’S TOO MANY PEOPLE. SO MANY ARE GONNA DIE. DAMN THIS SHOW.

- I kind of adore that Clarke’s reaction to hearing music is DA FUQ IS THIS? NO TO MUSIC. NO TO JOY.

- I really enjoy the scene with Clarke and Jasper. You can still feel his anger at Clarke, but...I don’t know...there’s something different about it. I almost feel like Jasper has put aside his anger, and is just...shooting from the hip, rather than from grief? Clarke’s face breaks my heart when he points out how similar it all sounds to them being sent to the ground though.

THE BIG DECISION

- Okay, so first of all...I love that we got to hear everybody’s perspective. This was democracy at work and it wasn’t a decision Bellamy made alone. So we can put that narrative to bed now.

- Minty lives

- I’m actually not going to go in depth on the choice that Bellamy ultimately makes, because I can see both sides and I don’t think either is right or wrong. We don’t have to justify anything here. Yes, perhaps somewhere down the line the squad will realise that the generator really was their only option and the reality of his choice will crash down on Bellamy. But imagine that he had decided to leave the slaves, and then in two weeks time they found a gigantic underground bunker that could fit 10,000 people. He’d feel pretty shit about letting the slaves suffer then, right? The characters don’t know what the future holds, and they don’t have the benefit of knowing they are part of a narrative which ensures that some of them will at least survive.

- So, whatever basically. I’d have been cool with this going either way.

- Stoke that they saved Riley though, obviously.

- Important quote to note... ‘we have Raven.’ I, like Bellamy, believe that Raven Reyes can do anything - including make water out of nothing.

- Also worth noting how...incredibly risky their plan was? Like. Yikes.

- Harper kicking due in the face is my kink.

- MONTY IS SUPER GREAT IN THIS EPISODE. Everything about his reaction to meeting his dads murderer is just exquisitely well done. Leaving his death to the slaves is both powerful and also really quite dark.

Heavy Lies the Crown

- The Clarke/Jaha scene is so good and so hurtful to me.

- Fucking Jaha.

- Clarke referencing her father and being locked up is really important, but...so is the parallel to Jaha’s choices. Ugh. Everything he says is actually so on point, and you can see realisation that Clarke is seeing herself in Jaha is disgusting to her but also unavoidable.

- Back to Kabby. We saw Kane have absolute faith in Abby last episode, so it’s nice to hear her being so sure that he will figure something out (YES, IT’S ALL VERY BELLARKE I KNOW).

- Kane quickly figures out that Abby is going back to Arcadia (judging from the promo, she’s going to be needed). I’m excited for this because more Abby and Clarke, but also maybe some Clarke and Raven please? We get some more gloriously supportive stuff from Kane...

- And then Kane notices that Abby isn’t wearing her necklace! Upon first viewing, I didn’t pick up on the fact that this scene feels a bit cut up. I can see it on second watch, and I can understand that’s frustrating. That being said, I don’t think the scene loses its meaning? To me, the removal of her necklace is Abby’s way of saying she’s ready to move on and it’s her way of saying it to Kane without putting it into words.

- Prayer circle that Abby gives the rings to Clarke.

- LOOK AT HOW MUCH THAT CAPE STANDS OUT OKAY.

- So, I’m skipping straight to the murder. I FUCKING LOVE ITTTTTTTTTTT. I just...I’m so relieved that Octavia’s mudering is FOR her people, and not against. It makes so much sense.

- I can’t help giggling a little at Octavia being so ballsy about dueling these folk. THEY MIGHT ALL BE TONS BETTER THAN YOU, BABE. THEY’VE HAD YEARS TO PRACTICE. But whatever.

- Soooo the stabbing into the earhole to hide the wound and thus make it seem like he died of natural causes is BADASS.

- HEADCANON: Octavia did not learn this tactic on the ground. She learned it as a child when Bellamy was reading her some classic murderous fiction.

- ‘LONG LIVE THE KING.’ Nice.

- Kane is CONCERNED about his daughter’s MURDEROUS WAYS.

- Ilian has also figured it out.

- And Echo too seems suspicious. STICKING A PIN IN THAT FOR THE FUTURE.

Clarke, we have adopted more children

- So Briller are breaking up, and I can’t be mad at the show for it because Jonathan got a new gig and can’t commit (sound familiar, oooh I went there). I do hope that this time around they let him just disappear into the sunset. Learn from your mistakes show.

- Make sure he takes Riley with him.

- Again, kudos to Jonathan for this ep. He really brings it.

- RILEY RILEY RILEY YES WE KNOW THAT IS HIS NAME. STOP.

- Okay, so the scene where Riley and Clarke are revealed as old friends (I have zero romance fears here btw) is HILLARIOUS TO ME. It’s so blatantly shoe horned in. AS IF they would be reunited, hug, and then just...blah. Like...it’s so noodley?

- Anyway, Raven realises there is no generator and Bellamy fesses up to his maternal instincts.

- I actually love Clarke’s ‘you just did’. The delivery doesn’t imply blame to me, which is backed up by how immediately Clarke accepts his choice. It’s more a simple statement of fact, coming from a place of understanding.

- Raven, on the other hand, is pissed. ‘You’re not the only one who has to live with it. As usual.’ This is a direct throwback to Bellamy chucking the radio, right? That’s pertinent to their history. Look, Raven is a spitfire. She’s scared and under pressure, and she hasn’t had to make the leadership calls yet. She clearly will at some point this season, and we’ll see her gain a healthy dose of respect for Clarke and Bellamy when she does. For now, I think her anger is perfect.

- I know ‘no more than a 100′ is really on the nose but I LOVE IT SO SO MUCH. WHO’S GONNA MAKE IT YOU GUYS. AHHHH. MY SHOW.

- BRAVENLARKE FOR LIFE.

- CLARKE QUOTES JAHA AT BELLAMY AND SHE JUST LOOKS SO BROKEN ABOUT IT. My dear girl, you’ll be okay...somehow.

- Clarke is just the accepted leader of Skaikru now and I love it.

- TOGETHER. Looks at Bellamy. OF COURSE SHE DOES. Can we also talk about Raven’s heart eyes towards Clarke? I mean...they fade to ash pretty fast, but just for that moment it’s the purest of loves!

- So, Clarke lies, and just like Bellamy and the generator...I won’t call right or wrong. There is no answer, just a choice.

- ‘Your father would be so proud’ OUCH. OUCH. OUCH. Raven lashing out at Clarke here is much more personal than what she says to Bellamy. It’s more vicious. But I’m still not going to rail on her, for the same reasons as mentioned above. It’s time for her to get to work. I am so excited to see her in this role.

- And so Bellamy repeats ‘we save who we can save today’ and the important thing here is how Clarke nods. She’s not mad. She respects and understands his choice. Most of all she trusts him. Even if she CAN’T understand a choice he makes, she’ll always trust that it came from the right place. They’re a team.

- And to reinforce that, the episode ends with a glorious Bellarke shot as they contemplate what is to come.

- How many episodes will end with a Bellarke shot this season? I say 12/13.

- I AM SO VERY HYPED FOR NEXT WEEK.
