- BETA READERS WANTED -
Tumblr media
Do you like Grimdark Fantasy? How about Horror? Noir? All of the above? Do you want to watch fictional women dole out incredible violence as their lives get worse, and still find hope in the world? Are you a sucker for enemies-to-lovers, especially of the kind that's convoluted and messy in their emotional attachment? Have you been yearning for more disabled and/or trans protagonists in your life?
Do you want a story where love corrupts instead of redeems?
Do you want to read a tragedy that was inescapable long before the story began?
My novel Whispers is in need of some beta readers!
Tumblr media
Marika Swiftfoot has hidden from the Shadow of Fowden for ten years, but ten years isn’t a life complete.
She has a debt to pay, and the Whispers have finally come to collect. And once again, she is ripped away from everything she calls home as the result of a poor choice she made years ago, when she didn’t know what would come.
But she will not go to Fowden without a fight.
And she swears the man who brings her there will die by her hand, no matter how much she once loved him.
Lorelei, too, is steeped in the regrets of her past, for she is known by three names: Softheart. Witmouth. Vowbreaker.
She wants to earn Hopebringer before her legs give out for good.
But first, she needs to find out what happened to her little sister. First, she needs to find the man who has disappeared just as untraceably, thirty years later.
First, she needs to end the Shadow of Fowden.
For she is not her father; she does not break her vows.

BETA READERS - Pweese??? (Audio Transcript Below Cut)
The ethics board didn’t know what to do with him; Neither did the medical board nor the astrological association. Dr. A.J. Crowley was an academic rockstar—for all that the term “rockstar” meant in an environment where the ratio of knitted sweaters to human beings was an astounding 3.3 sweaters for every researcher in too many layers—his name plastered somewhere on most of the papers produced by Tadfield University, as well as a hefty chunk of papers produced outside of TadU (his groundbreaking statistical analysis popping up in all sorts of odd places, although, most notably, in Aziraphale’s pub arguments). A born contrarian, the sciences had called to him. And of course they had! Science was the occupation of mule-headed pricks (see: Nicolaus Copernicus), curious entrepreneurial spirits (see: Marie Curie), and madmen (see: Freud). And Crowley just so happened to be all three. There wasn’t a major field of study that he didn’t have a thumb in. If there was a scientific consensus to be had on the matter, then there was also a Crowley to unrepentantly flip the bird at it.
These were the foreboding thoughts overshadowing the mind of one young (although only young by the standards of post-PhD graduates, which is to say, not young at all) Dr. Fell as he glanced, awestruck, to the other side of the University cafeteria, where Dr. A.J. Crowley sat, eating a bowl of store-bought salad. Aziraphale had been crushing—academically, of course—on Crowley ever since he had read the man’s first paper on multidimensional approaches to quantum entanglement. That Crowley was wrong in his conclusions about relativity and its subsequent angles of observation was no impediment in Aziraphale’s appreciation of his intelligence. They might have disagreed on the finer points, but Crowley’s writing was a wonder to behold. Aziraphale had nearly vibrated out of his seat upon spotting him. Nevermind that he logically understood that Crowley published papers under TadU, the same university that Aziraphale himself wrote for, and therefore bumping into him was not outside the realm of possibility. It was the principle of the matter. Aziraphale knew Crowley as a photo above a well-read author’s note; It was something else entirely to witness him, breathing, flesh and blood, as he gazed into his salad, wine coloured locks flowing down his back. Odd to know that he had poor posture, or that he forked his food around more than he actually ate it. Intimate, in a strange way; That Aziraphale could quote the innermost musings of a man mere meters away from him.
Unfortunately, Aziraphale’s single player staring contest was quite suddenly put into co-op mode, as Crowley—almost like he could sense the attention goring into his back—looked up from his salad and into Aziraphale’s, now bashful, gaze. A tense moment of delicate liminality followed, Aziraphale waiting (much like a man at the gallows) for Crowley’s reaction to his impropriety. He was then surprised when Crowley's expression morphed into one of recognition, rather than one of disgust or awkwardness.
“Dr. Fell!” Crowley called, a grin overtaking the once thoughtful lines of his face. He waved one of his arms haphazardly in a ‘come-over-here’ kind of gesture, using the other to pull out a chair beside him. Aziraphale had the grace to be momentarily astonished before hurrying to meet his academic hero.
“Dr. Crowley, It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance! I’ll be honest, I-I never expected you to know who I was… Let alone…” He let his words trail off into pitiful nothings, stuttering and red in the face.
“Just ‘Crowley’ if you will, or ‘Anthony’ if you must. And the pleasure’s all mine! I first read your work, oh… It’d have to be at least five or six years ago now. Your master’s thesis, I believe. On Paul’s doctrines.” With a leering grin, Crowley leaned forward.
“I will admit, Dr. Fell, your writing had me positively hooked.” He said it as though it were a secret, the kind you wouldn’t dare repeat to your mother. However, from what Aziraphale could tell, he just sort of spoke like that. Like someone who was constantly sharing the intricacies of some deviant sexual act for all the innocence of the actual words themselves. Every sentence that fell out of his mouth reeked of an implied “you saucy minx” like the ghost of Fran Drescher past.
“Er.” Aziraphale replied intelligently, taking a seat. Crowley seemed unperturbed by the sudden verbal ineptitude. When working with academics, you get used to an assorted array of oddball characters. It’s terribly presumptuous, and even more so unproductive, to expect them all to conform to the typical back and forth of neurotypical communication. You don’t get to become Dr. A.J. Crowley, pain in the arse to astrophysicists everywhere, by being over-particular about the oratory of one’s downtime.
“You’re wrong, of course.” He continued with an impish grin, forking his salad cheekily. Aziraphale hadn’t known someone could fork a salad cheekily, but nonetheless, here Crowley was, attempting to prove him incorrect on two fronts.
“Wrong? Dear boy, that was my master's thesis. Should you choose to debate this, I fear I’ll have the home field advantage.” His response was deliberately unaffected, a haughty tune laced with the playfulness that Crowley was absolutely drenched in.
“Unfortunately for you, I’ve read it. And, as such, I fear nothing.” If at all possible, Crowley’s smirk got even wider, eyeing up a challenge like a dog would eye a rather large t-bone steak. It made him seem like the same kind of fellow you’d find jumping between skyscrapers in one of those panic attack inducing youtube videos. Within the relatively safe environment of academic discourse—long past the days of Pythagoras’ maths fueled murder, or, for that matter, Plato’s wrestling prime—it made Aziraphale feel brave.
“Those are bold words, Crowley. Especially coming from someone who has genuinely used Shrodinger’s cat to argue for quantum superpositions.”
Startled, Crowley laughed, mouth opening wide enough to expose the mushy green remnants of the salad he had been chewing. Behind dark glasses, his eyes glittered with a delighted surprise that told Aziraphale Crowley hadn't read his paper on modern approaches to unified field theory.
“Just because the sod wouldn’t have liked my stance, doesn’t mean I can’t use his thought experiment to prove it.” Crowley snorted, looking at Aziraphale speculatively.
“Anyway, it figures you’d like Shrodinger. All that religious symbolism.” He sighed, inching closer. It would have been a suave manoeuvre were it not for the horrible screech of metal chair leg against hard concrete flooring. Aziraphale shuddered at the sound, wincing apologetically at Crowley. Hoping to convey with his eyes alone that ‘oh no, I did notice your blunder, but I shan’t make a fool of you; I’m kinder than that, see?’
“Science as an imitation of the religious seems more like your sort of thing, actually. I prefer proper works of faith.” He said instead, realising that the eye message wasn’t getting across all that well (because Aziraphale was about as smooth as Crowley in that regard).
“Proper works of faith, huh?” The raise of Crowley's eyebrows could be seen from space. Not that space would want to see such a thing. Aziraphale imagined that space would feel quite silly indeed, if such a glance had been directed towards it. At least, Aziraphale felt quite silly, watching Crowley’s eyebrows approach his hairline; Knocking—not impolitely—for entry.
“C.S. Lewis, mainly. I don’t mind a spot of Tolkien, either. I don’t suppose you read a lot of fantasy, do you?” As Aziraphale was wont to do when embarrassed, he puffed up. And subsequently puffed down; Softening the sulky turn of his tone with the upwards lilt of a question at the end.
“I don’t read much at all, really. Although I do make an exception for the Screwtape Letters.” Crowley answered, trying to find some common ground.
“You seem the type. Devilish as you are in your academic work.” Aziraphale teased. Regardless, Crowley soldiered on, giving tit for tat. Crowley did like tit.
“I’m more into the digital age, not that you’d know anything about that. You don’t even have a Twitter as far as I’m aware.”
If Aziraphale had indeed known what Twitter was, it would have been remarkably telling that Crowley knew he didn’t have one.

Beta Reader Needed - for a satosugu oneshot! It’s a very stupid High School Au!
It’s around 9/10k and will give it a couple rounds of edits before passing it over. I’m looking for someone that could:
- Look at my grammar/overall flow of text - English is not my first language so sometimes my stuff sounds off 🥺
- tell me if there’s anything that doesn’t make sense/any ooc that should be tagged
- I’m very open to constructive feedback btw!! I have a lot of fun with the creative process but am painfully aware of having zero skills whatsoever 🫡
More on the fic:
- take jjk, put it in Ouran Host Club, and make Gojo and Getou as stupid as you can. That’s the whole pitch.
- rather: high school au where it’s Valentine’s Day, Satoru and Suguru tries to survive the endless love confessions coming their way and not to make too obvious they’re really into each other (failing miserably)
- I think I’ll have a decent draft by some time next week :)
- just to reiterate this is painfully stupid.

ROYAL ROGUE - Beta Reader's Needed
Tumblr media
Hear, ye Hear, ye! I have reached the phase in my romance novel writing process where I am in need of beta readers.
What does that mean?
Do you have a lot of opinions on stories in the fantasy genre? On dragon romance? Or on trans/nonbinary representation in stories? You're an adult? Then you're the kind of person I'm looking for! A beta reader is someone who gives all the input on story/characters/what's missing/what seems confusing - you are the view for the writer to see past the cloud of their creation to find out how readers will feel about their story.
What does this NOT mean?
If you aren't comfortable giving thoughts/feedback and don't read in the genre I'd say hold off for when I reach the final stages of the book to read it instead.
Great, I'm interested - What's the story about?
Valentine was born to be the royal heir to the kingdom of the Sun. Forced to choose between being a prince or princess, they decide to throw it all away to work on becoming a rogue at the local thieves guild instead. Training to one day be adept enough to run away and leave the strict control of their unsympathetic mother for good. Sent on a quick retrieval mission in the nearby mountains, they instead encounter a highly unusual dragon by the name of Asrir. A collector of oddities and very much one himself. The two of them bond over their frustrations with societal expectations and find quick friendship. Over time friendship blooms to love and the two of them face both the challenge of admitting their feelings and escaping the clutches of the queen.
Over arching theme: In a world built by the gods for balance - where do people in the in-between belong?
Features:
Transmasc Nonbinary love interest
75% trans characters / fairies with magic to help people transition
Found family
Dragons
High fantasy
Slow burn friends to lovers
Happy ending
High heat dragon sex scene 18+
Content Warnings: Transphobia (hinted at and 1 scene directly), verbally abusive mother, magical drug use (1 time at a party), body horror with immolation themes, self hatred
Want to read a snippet of an older draft? Here's a taste.
Feel free to comment in the replies here or send me an ask if you're interested so I can give next steps!
Please reblog as well to boost. If not you, someone you know might be a great fit

Hello! So I’m a fanfic writer and I’ve got multiple fics that need a beta reader. As well as someone to just bounce ideas off of! All of the fics I’m currently working on at dp x dc fics based on prompts that I find here on tumblr! ☺️💜 If you’d like to beta one or more of these fics send me a dm and I’ll gladly talk with you! ☺️💜💜
The first one is my Dad from Mars fic. Martian Manhunter adopts Danny. The fic follows them through the adoption process and their lives afterwards. Chapters 1 & 2 are already posted to my AO3. Based on a brain vomit by @thebubblesareevil
Second one is a Fenton Reunion one. In this one the Kents have been going to the Fenton Family Reunion for decades and are now bringing Clark along with them. This fic is more based around how Clark, Danny, and Jazz become fast friends and keep the friendship up as they grow up. Based on a prompt by @tomboy014
Third is a ballet dancer Danny AU. I haven’t put much together for this one but I do have a general idea of what’s supposed to happen. I just can’t connect all of the little plot bunny points into a somewhat cohesive and coherent fic or outline. 😅 All I’ve got is that the batfam go to a ballet performance they see Danny onstage and just about all of them fall for him at basically first sight. They then start a competition for Danny’s hand in dating/a relationship. Shenanigans ensue and it’s very endearing and entertaining. Prompt is an answered ask from @im-totally-not-an-alien-2
Last one that has been poking as my subconscious has been the Alfred’s apprentice one. Where Danny is homeless in Gotham and Alfred finds him. He tries to convince the teen to come to the mansion by talking about how he takes care of the estate and manor as well as the people who reside there. Danny mistakes what Alfred is saying and thinks he’s going to the manor to learn under the butler. Alfred tries to convince him otherwise but Danny is set on either being trained or just leaving to keep living on the streets of Gotham. And that’s how Wayne Manor came to have a new apprentice butler. Prompt originally by @im-totally-not-an-alien-2 but you can see all of the little add-ons in the reposts
I also have a little ficlet floating around about a ‘haunted’ theater in Gotham. The vigilantes go to investigate and end up finding Danny. He pretends to be a ghost and freaks them out. All in good fun though. ☺️ Prompt/fic by @midas-lost-it

BETA READERS WANTED
As I am in the final editing stage of my book, I was hoping to get some people who would be willing to read and give me some feedback.
The Bonds That Bind Us is the first book in a potential trilogy but can be read as a standalone. It's the story of Jackson Alexander, a gay man who learns to heal and love through finding Luke, his Superman.
Whilst this is a romance novel, I would class it more as literary fiction due to the heavy subject matter addressed in the story.
Triggers include: Physical/mental/verbal abuse; homophobia; self-harm; suicidal ideation; death of secondary character(s); PTSD/depression/anxiety; religion; etc.
HOWEVER, this is a story about love, healing, and found family. About a man who goes through some of the worst things imaginable and is still able to come out on the other side of it, happy.
I know it's not going to be for everyone but if you are interested, drop me a comment or a DM.
I'm going to post the first chapter below so people can read it and see if it's their kind of thing!
Thank you if you've read this far!
Music had the floor below him vibrating, Jackson eyeing the patrons of the bustling club from his hiding place by the bar. Taking another sip of his whiskey, he smirked. This was one of the hottest spots in the city and he was surrounded by some of the biggest names in New York. People everywhere were dying to get close to them, all the common folk blissfully unaware of how painfully obvious their attempts to mingle were. He couldn’t blame them, though; he used to be one of them.
He was among the rich, the famous, and the beautiful, and he’d never felt more miserable.
He hated coming here alone; it made him realise how bad things really were; but, it was better than being at home. It was better than sitting in fear of another beating. Or with the crippling loneliness that seemed to be his only companion currently.
An obnoxiously loud laugh could be heard above the din of the music, for a moment almost drowning it out. Jackson scowled into his drink before his crystal-blue eyes found the owner.
Ginny and the girls were partying hard in the VIP section, completely oblivious of him. Once upon a time, he’d have been there with them; he should‘ve been there with them; delighting in the free drinks and attention, but not now. It was hard to want things like that when you had to allow people to use you to get them.
There was a time he would have done anything for Ginny. Anything. He’d lost count of the amount of times he’d done things that had made him uncomfortable just to stay in her good graces. And now she didn’t even see him. He’d stopped receiving the phone calls and the invitations. He didn’t exist in her world anymore.  It was like he’d disappeared entirely. Sometimes he wished he would.
His whiskey tasted bitter as he finished it, slamming the empty glass down almost too hard onto the bar. This whole venture had been a mistake. Jackson knew he shouldn’t be here, but he needed something to dull the emptiness. He needed to feel something. Anything. He just didn’t know where to find it.
Three more whiskies gave him enough confidence to loosen up, his black hair shining as it cascaded down his back. His hips swayed as he lost himself in the music, a small, sad smile on his lips as his thoughts wandered.
Sudden hands on his waist had Jackson freezing where he stood,  fear almost causing him to drop his half-full glass.
Spinning around quickly, he almost had a heart attack. It took him a minute to realise that the gorgeous man standing too close to him wasn’t Luke O’Neill, an actor he’d love to get his hands on, though he’d be forgiven for thinking it was.
A lot about them was similar; the dimples, the hair, the smile; but there was so much wrong, too. Luke's eyes shone like emeralds and his smile was breathtaking in every picture Jackson had ever seen of him. Where Luke was smooth, chiselled, the man before him looked like he had been carved from play-doh rather than marble. It felt like a childish representation of what a man should be. Close enough to pass muster but not enough under close scrutiny. Jackson's disappointment was real but he knew, on any other night, he'd have taken second-best. It wasn't like he'd ever be lucky enough to touch the real thing anyway.
“Can I help you?” Jackson asked with a sigh, his back against the wall as the man stepped closer.
“You looked like you could use some company,” he slurred, Jackson suppressing the urge to roll his eyes. The man’s eyes roved over Jackson’s pretty features and down his petite figure, Jackson tutting in annoyance.
“I’m not interested. Thanks, though.”
As Jackson pushed him away, ready to leave, the man grabbed the top of his arm gently to pull him back. Jackson grimaced as the man began pressing sloppy kisses against his neck, the stylist struggling in his grip. Before he had a chance to protest further, Jackson’s phone buzzed in his pocket and he retrieved it with a frown; this night couldn’t get any worse.
The message icon flashed in the top corner of the screen and he opened it, lifting a brow as he saw multiple messages from his brother, Carlos. He was writing another as Jackson read the first one.
Pop’s threatening to lock the doors.
I’m not gonna be able to come and unlock them this time.
He said he’d teach me a lesson if I did, man. Especially after what happened last time!
You’ve got an hour and a half, hermano.
Please come home, Jackson…
His arm dropped heavily at his side, the all too familiar feeling of emptiness creeping in again as his little brother’s words sunk in, tears pricking at his eyes. He knew Carlos had only done what he thought was best. It cut like a knife.
If he only had an hour and a half, he was going to get something out of it. Anything to make the emptiness go away. With a sniff, he shoved the phone back into his jeans and finished his drink, wincing at the burn in his throat. Gripping a handful of his enthusiastic partner’s hair, the man groaning as he lifted his head, Jackson pressed a hard kiss to his lips before pulling away. He saw the burning he’d become accustomed to in the stranger’s eyes and took his hand, leading him towards the restroom. Jackson would hate himself for this tomorrow but right now he didn’t care. He didn’t care about anything. He needed to feel something, anything. He just wanted it to go away.

(BETA FOUND!) ISO language beta for a Deadloch fic!
EDIT: Dreams really do come true! An amazing beta has gone over the fic and it will be posted in about a week. Thanks to everyone who helped put us in touch -- go team! :-D
I'm looking for a speaker of Australian English to look over a long fic and point out where I've got the dialect wrong. I'd be happy to return the favor for you if you ever want that; I have excellent attention to detail and I speak a very standard/unmarked US English. If you have other feedback to share about my story I'd love that, but I won't expect it.
STORY NOTES:
Fandom: Deadloch
Pairings: Eddie/Dulcie are definitely the main one. Eddie/Cath are shown making out once. There is also one Dulcie/Eddie/Cath sex scene at the end but otherwise no Dulcie/Cath or Eddie/Cath is shown (though both are mentioned).
Length: long! ~83,000 words.
Rating: explicit. The first 1/3 of the story is UST and pining. The sex scenes all come after that, but there are a lot of them.
Canon-compliant. Set after the end of the series proper, starting right after Ray’s death. Includes the canon epilogue scene (in which Eddie and Dulcie visit Holly) and then continues after that.
I didn’t like Cath in canon but I think she could get her shit together and be a better person and a better partner, and I’ve leaned into that very hard, while doing my best to also keep her in character.
CONTENT WARNINGS:
Trigger warning for gender dysphoria. See spoiler warning if that’s you.
One quick memory of intimate partner violence (the time in canon when Ray tried to strangle Eddie).
All sex scenes are enthusiastically consensual but there's a power imbalance around couple privilege. It’s dealt with in-story.
Expanded trigger warning WITH SPOILER: a character experiences gender dysphoria with triggers around specific sex acts and one specific word. Reference to that character being triggered with past partners, including one brief but pretty painful memory of a sex act that the character wanted at the time but that feels different in hindsight. However, this is a story about trans joy as well; there is a payoff later, and eventually a happy ending for this character.
If you’re interested but on the fence about committing to this, PM me and we can talk about what’s making you hesitate. I will of course credit you when I post my story.

beta reader here!
beta & alpha readers wanted for fic projects will beta in exchange!
Tumblr media
Hey everyone!
For those that don't know me, my name's Lou (she/her) and I have recently gotten back into revamping the numerous fic projects I had in my vaults and trying to get back into my writing again.
I have put out this post to say that if anyone is also in a similar situation with their own fics, I am offering my fellow fic writers to beta & alpha read fics in exchange for coming on as an alpha or beta reader for my own projects.
As a beta & alpha reader, I am willing to not only check for grammar, punctuation, spelling and formatting but also:
identify weaknesses in the plot.
identify pieces in the story where engagement was high or lacking.
identify points in the story where clarity is needed.
help develop characters (both oc & canon)
canon check pieces of information (for canonverse/compliant fics)
|| if you have specific needs, feel free to check with me ! ||
As a writer, I am looking for someone to help with:
identifying inconsistent tense.
identifying where engagement was high or lacking.
identifying points in the story where clarity is needed.
writing relationship development (platonic/romantic)
editing plot structure and fluidity.
writing descriptive settings.
identifying monotone or repetitive parts of the story.
Most importantly, I am looking for people who can approach my story as both a reader passionate about the fic and a writer/editor passionate about helping improve the story.
My projects are also multi-chapter (150,000) and usually part of a wider series (minimum of 3 parts) ; therefore, I am open to working on fic projects that are of equal length!
Tumblr media
The fandoms that I write and will read for are:
Fairy Tail, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Game of Thrones/House of Dragons (TV), X-Men (movies), Teen Wolf, The Last Kingdom, The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Harry Potter (fuck JKR tho), The DC Animated Films/Young Justice, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Walking Dead (universe), Scream (movies), The Vampire Diaries/The Originals, The 100, Glee, Pretty Little Liars, Percy Jackson, Criminal Minds, Wolfblood, The Chronicles of Narnia, Outerbanks, The Maze Runner, Grey's Anatomy, Tower Prep, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, FATE: The Winx Saga, Stranger Things, Star Wars, Resident Evil (Gameverse), Power Rangers (the movie), The Hunger Games, Five Night's At Freddy's, Pacific Rim.
The fandoms that I have as WIP right now are:
Teen Wolf, Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Chronicles of Narnia, The 100, Game of Thrones.
The rest of the fandoms listed are in the worldbuilding process, which I also welcome help with if anyone is interested in bouncing ideas back and forth and fleshing out each other's fics!
This is the link to my Ao3 if you want to understand my writing style.
if you're interested in one of the projects I have for these fandoms (as a beta or just as a potential reader), send me a DM or a ask!
Tumblr media
The type of fics that I enjoy writing/reading are (with consideration that Ao3 is my primary writing platform):
M-E Rated (For that reason, I prefer to work with 18+ betas)
Plot-heavy but with a well-written romantic subplot (requirement)
Specific tags/plot I enjoy/write: Time-travel, Fix-It, Canon-Divergence, What-Ifs.
Canonverse fics.
Both OC (has to have the potential of good development, though) and Canon Character-centric fics.
Found family, healing from trauma, redemption arcs.
Crossover/fusion fics (where the original fandom is set in the universe of another fandom)
Zombie-Apocolypse fics.
Dark twists on characters, plots, and the wider canonverse.
-
The type of fics that I steer clear from or don't enjoy reading/writing:
G-T Rated.
No romantic subplot at all (I am a romantic girly, sorry to say)
A Mary Sue OC/Reader-Insert or Mary Sue plot.
Reader-inserts.
Established Relationships (unless I can read the build up first)
Specific tags/plot: P*dophilia, Incest (outside of canon-typical), Mpreg, Omegaverse (only under special circumstances).
Modern AUs, Human AUs, No Power AUs.
No Comfort, No Happy Ending, Major Character (Permanent) Death.
Character bashing (I do read fics that bash, but I find it hard to beta for them only because I like to discuss characters objectively - but there are exceptions, so feel free to check)
Anything that attempts to glorify or justify racism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, xenophobia, ableism, sexism, bigotry, abuse, r*pe or anything even remotely similar.
(feel free to check with me tho, I am open to discussion of everything except the bottom dot point)
Tumblr media
Because I believe beta reading to be an experience that should be enjoyable and insightful for both the reader and writer, I am open to :
Discussing any ships, character arcs, or plot points that my betas personally wanted to see in the show or are very passionate about (read: this does not mean I will change my entire story but that I am open to possibilities)
Analysing and critiquing any of the above media (read: NOT BASHING, but genuine analysis of how different media were handled to apply to our own form of writing)
Giving out and receiving fic, tv, movie and book recs to aid in inspiring each other during the course of our writing, but also to support our fellow writing community!
Tumblr media
Even if you're not interested, please repost so it can reach those who are!

How the frick do I find beta readers?!
Is there a way to ask for each individual fic (since I have so many WIPs that all get finished at different times)? What do I do?
The last time I got beta readers, it didn't go so well... Don't worry, it didn't traumatize me or anything, but it really didn't help me improve my story. I'm hoping next time will be different.

Like House MD, time travel, radical canon divergence, and author-self-insert isekai fanfics? Beta readers wanted!
Welp it seems the brainrot I contracted from @acrownforaking is compelling me to write my own House MD isekai fanfic featuring an author-self-insert who unexpectedly reality shifts / time travels from January 2024 in our universe to January 2004 in the Houseverse, then immediately decides to seize this opportunity to unfuck the shitshow that is Greg House's life while simultaneously rewriting 20 years of history with nothing but her shitty memory and her hubris to guide her.
Unfortunately, while I've spent the past 30+ years reading 100+ million words of fanfic in various fandoms, my only previous experience in writing fanfic has consisted of starting and then abandoning a few Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate 3 fics. I wrote thousands of words, but I wrote the scenes out of order as the ideas came to me. I never published even a single chapter of those fics on AO3 because my writing process failed to produce a coherent Chapter 1 before getting hopelessly bogged down in obsessively researching the lore of the games' settings.
I've learned from my mistakes and this time I'm going to force myself to write my story in chronological order so I can begin publishing chapters while it's still a WIP. I've heard that those sweet sweet dopamine hits from AO3's email notifications can be a great incentive to keep writing. Plus the Houseverse being nearly identical to our own universe means there's very little setting-specific lore for me to research.
I'm seeking beta readers both for the usual reasons (motivation, accountability, and general writing feedback) and to help me untangle the messes I'll be making every time my OC uses her foreknowledge to force a radical deviation from show canon and/or IRL recent history. So, if you're the sort of person who enjoys pointing out a plan's fatal flaws or rooting out logical inconsistencies, then oh boy would I love for you to rip my drafts apart. Make both my OC and me cry. Please.
Warning: This fic will be dark. The source material is already pretty fucking dark -- House MD canon includes all four of the major archive warnings -- and my story will likely include even more potential triggers than in canon because one of the major themes will be how quickly things can spiral horribly out of control when you think you can predict the future.
So, if you have any triggers that you avoid reading about for the sake of your mental health, you probably shouldn't volunteer to beta read my fic because I won't be working on the trigger warnings until the final polishing for publication. It would be safer to wait until I've posted on AO3 to read it because I plan to break the chapters up so that triggering content is quarantined in its own separate chapters that can be briefly summarized and skipped.
Please let me know if you're interested in beta reading chapters before they're published on AO3. Any level of involvement welcome -- I am fully aware that most people don't have the time or interest to volunteer as a copyeditor or developmental editor! Quick feedback like "he would not fucking say that" or "yo there's a giant plot hole over here" would be super helpful to me too. Thanks in advance!

Thomas-As-Heir Novel in Search of Beta Readers
I wanted to get this post up before my Tumblr hiatus next month, which will last somewhere between one and four weeks, depending on how sane I'm feeling.
Right, so, here's the deal. As anyone who follows me is undoubtedly quite aware, I have been working on my Thomas as Heir piece off and on since 2017. Last month I finished a second complete draft and while it's looking good, it still needs some work. Still, if all goes well, I should reasonably have it ready to start posting by the end of 2024, if not before, and believe you me - I want to post this thing. We are hitting the 'never want to think about it again' point that you do when you've gone over something until your eyes want to fall out. Which leads me to the point of this post.
I'd like a couple more beta readers. I currently have two: Hinney_B, who regular readers will know as my standard beta, and my long time online friend, Marbletoast, who is one of the best editors I've ever met. Both have been helping me with this thing pretty much since the beginning and, while neither of them are fast (one is the head of the herpetology department at the local zoo, the other is a full time mom, plus they have their normal hobbies) they both work well with me and are good at pointing out flaws, making suggestions, etc.
The problem is that neither of them have seen Downton Abbey in it's entirety. Hinney_B has at least seen the first three seasons and both movies. Marbletoast knows it exists. This leaves some…knowledge gaps in rather inconvenient places. I am the resident expert on English culture of the period, the history, and all things upstairs-downstairs which is less than optimal since I'm not an expert in any of that. Since this is set between season six and the first movie (I originally wanted it to be able to be read as canon compliant, if one wished, although the movies shot that), I don't really have anyone to fact check my memory of the series or comment on the characterization.
I really, really want this story to be the best it can be. I don't need someone who has betaed before - I've had some very good results with new readers in the past. What I do need is as follows:
Someone who has seen the show.
Someone who can help me improve the story I am telling rather than telling me what to write. One of my past betas basically tried to get me to write the stories she wanted to read all of the time, never mind what I wanted to write, and got very tetchy if I ignored her demands 'advice'. Even if your advice is wonderful, I won't necessarily take it. That doesn't mean I don't want to hear it.
Someone who's not afraid to have a discussion about the text. The extreme opposite problem of the previous beta was the friend who tried to beta for me exactly once who suggested a rather drastic change to my work. I noted it, then informed her of what I'd been originally aiming for. I told her this so that she could weight my intent against her suggestion, decide which she liked more, and, if she preferred mine, help me get it across better. Instead she apologized profusely for angering me and no amount of explaining that I wasn't angry would coax her back. Good beta work is a conversation. We need to be able to converse.
And that's really all I absolutely need. Speed is obviously not an issue. Seriously, I hear from Marbletoast once or twice a year. Things that would be helpful are:
Good grasp on history. I don't have that.
Good grasp on English culture, especially at the time period. I don't have that either.
Even handed attitude toward all of the characters. I hate character bastardization and am trying to avoid it like the plague. On the other hand, Downton is not a house full of saints and I like it that way.
And that's basically all I can think of. For the curious, we are currently sitting at 52,696 words, so I'm aware that this is not a light commitment, especially for no pay. My method of betaing so far is to toss a piece up on Google Drive and give people commenting access, which requires a GMail account and willingness to give me your email. If you can think of a better way to do it, I'm open to suggestions. Interested parties may comment here, shoot me an Ask, or message me. Uninterested parties may have a nice day, stay safe and healthy, and I will let you all know when I start posting this monstrosity.

Beta readers for two YOI fics needed!
Hi, I'm a canon fic writer and despite being a fan of YOI for about two years still a newbie around here, and I'm looking for beta readers for two of my YOI fanfics, which are part of my "A dream too large to bear alone"-verse. Both have been on hold for more than four months as I got increasingly unsure whether they're worth to be posted at all.
Can You Hear My Heartbeat
This is a 350k novelisation that fills the gaps in the show and dives deep into the relationship of Viktuuri (including the summer of mutual pining!), and it's the first part of a series that continues their story. The entire work has 49 chapters, but I stopped posting after about 50% because the entire thing felt like a ton of shit. You can read the first 25 chapters here.
I'm looking for someone who knows the anime by heart and can help me figure out the things I got wrong regarding characterisation, background info and stuff. As I had some trouble integrating the scenes from the anime into the story and making the transitions look smooth, I would like to have feedback on that, too! As this story covers long intervals of time which are skipped in the anime, I might also need some advice on making these more interesting to keep readers invested. Or to make it short: This story sucks and I don't know why and I need constructive feedback to make sense of all its issues.
2. Beneath the Shine of a Thousand Spotlights
This story covers the time from the Grand Prix Final to Viktor flying to Japan to become Yuuri's coach from Viktor's viewpoint and is about his struggles with depression and being Russia's figurehead in skating. It also includes some flashbacks that feature his relationship with Chris. I've been thinking about including even more backstory, but I'm not sure whether I should put this into an extra fic.
The entire story is 91k long and has 14 chapters in total. You can read Chapter 1 here.
I just finished the revision and now I'm looking for someone to discuss my ideas with and who can tell me whether they're totally unhinged or not. If you have a special interest in Viktor and/or have expert knowledge on Russia and psychology that would be super helpful, too!
As English isn't my first language and the capabilities of writing tools are limited to their algorithm, I also need my beta(s) to look for grammar and weird phrasing in either story.
If you're interested, are over 18, and have experience in beta-reading and/or enjoy literary analysis, I'd be happy to get to know you! As both works are on hold and I would love to continue posting soon, please apply for only one! If you want to do only language or plot, that would be fine, too!
In return, I offer to beta-read one of your works in case you're a writer. I can also give advice on fantasy and sci-fi worldbuilding. If this doesn't work for you, I'd be happy to write a one-shot or short story for you. Please feel free to ask me about my Do's & Don'ts!
I'm looking forward to working with you!
Reblogs appreciated <3
