Allen Walker is the Best Protagonist in Manga
Allen Walker is the best protagonist in manga, for many reasons. First and most obvious is that he is one of few shounen protagonists with common sense. Unlike Midoriya from My Hero Academia, Eren from Attack on Titan, Natsu from Fairy Tail or a slew of other shounen protagonists, he is generally level-headed, practical, and if necessary, underhanded – as can be seen below: Further, Allen is a…

Best of 2022: Best Protagonist
Tumblr media
Best Protagonist: Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel (Ms. Marvel)
Kamala Khan as depicted in Ms. Marvel the streaming series that is on Disney Plus is everything and more I wanted from a live action adaptation of Ms. Marvel and Kamala Khan. And that is why Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel from Ms. Marvel is my Best Protagonist.
I mean! She is perfect! A nerdy kid who loves the Marvel heroes to the point that she makes videos and fan fiction. Then just accidently gets her powers and the first thing she does is be a nerd and try them out. Then messes up in saving somebody. While the situation isn’t one to one from the comics. The character and everything is spot on Kamala Khan. This is where the one for one comes into play.
For years I wanted to include Kamala Khan but nothing she was in when it came to those cartoons were good. And now she finally got her own show and she is finally able to shine! And I am not talking about her powers.
What makes a good protagonist?
“Good is not a thing you are. It is a thing you DO.”
Tumblr media
And that is what Kamala does. She does good in all she does. From saving that little kid to helping the Clandestine. In the end, she wanted to help them and do good. It is what her parents raised her to be and it shows in everything she does.
Yeah. Does she do dumb teenager stuff? Yeah. Totally but that is what I have always loved about Kamala and when she is Ms. Marvel. When she puts on that mask, she is still the same dork that wants to do good and help others. Even if it cause trouble.
And it is infectious! Just like in the comics, Kamala wants to do good catches on to everybody else and they want to do good too. They feel inspired to do something to help. In their own special way. From using their following on Instagram to amass a small army to using their science wizardry to fight off a government agency. All of this is what Kamala inspires others to do and more so to get all of Jersey City on her side. They see her do good and it makes others rise up to do the same.
And I love how Kamala is still a teenager. She does the dumb things like arguing with her parents. Still, in the end she is a good kid and does what she can. And in return they see that their little girl is only doing what she can to help others. So they help her in whatever way they can. From giving her a costume to inspiring her namesake.
And in the end. I think the fact that Kamala does well without or without the mask as Ms. Marvel makes her the best protagonist. And finally that good that Kamala does is now in a live action show and hopefully movie.

Honorable Mention: Anya Forger (Spy x Family)- She is only five and trying her best. She wants to keep her family together and making sure she is having fun.

Now that Ghibli's new movie is coming out soon, I've been thinking about anime films and wanna talk about my favorite animated movie ever, Tokyo Godfathers.
Tumblr media
TG is a 2003 tragicomedy by Satoshi Kon, following three unhoused people––an alcoholic, a runaway girl, an a trans woman––who find a baby in a dumpster and set off across Tokyo to reunite her with her parents.
If you like the sound of that, go watch it because the rest of this post is spoilers and I have FEELINGS about this movie.
URGHH, the fact that only two moments of true kindness, generosity, and care given to the three protagonists without any expectation of reciprocity are given by a Latin-American immigrant couple and a drag show club full of trans women. The fact that, despite her loud and dramatic personality, Hana is the glue that holds the team together and the heart of the whole movie. The fact that this movie pulls no punches at showing the violence and inhumanity committed by "civilized Japanese society" against the unhoused. The fact that Miyuki craves to be loved by her parents and ends up seeing Hana as her true mother. The fact that Miyuki starts off accidentally using transphobic language against Hana, but slowly begins calling her "Miss Hana" out of respect. The fact that, according to Kon, Hana's role in the story is as a mythological trickster god and "disturb the morality and order of society, but also play a role in revitalizing culture." The fact that Hana so desperately wants to be part of a true family, yet is willing to sacrifice her found family so they can be with their own, and is rewarded for her good deeds in the end by becoming a godmother. The fact that, throughout the movie, wind and light have been used to signify the presence of god's hand/influence (this movie's about nondenominational faith––faith in yourself, faith in others, faith in a higher power. Lots of religious are referenced, such as Buddhism/Hinduism, Christianity, and Shintoism), and in the climax of the film, as Hana jumps off a building to save a baby that isn't hers, a gust of wind and a shower of light save her from death. The fact that god saves a trans woman's life because she proved herself a mother, and that shit makes me CRY.

One thing New Who doesn't really have that Old Who did was the thing where everyone (audience included) thinks the Doctor is this amazing genius from space with the best spaceship of all time, and then someone else from Gallilfrey shows up and goes "Oh, it's you. Did you get expelled from our university or did you just fail your degree? Is THAT what you're driving around the universe in? How does that thing even still work? And why are you dressed like that?"
