ten.
warning; 😪😪😪 1.2k words. masterlist.
the events of last night feels like a distant fever dream, especially because you wake up entirely alone in the large hotel room.
like you expected, the space beside you is empty, the cold, untouched sheets very telling that the man hadn’t even slept there. in fact, there’s nothing in the room that even suggests of his presence at all.
what you do notice is the massive white dior shopping bag, along with your suitcase and a new plane ticket on the small table. the table you and him blatantly ruined with your dirty deeds just last night.
inside the dior bag was a white dress with a pricetag the equivalent of your weekly wage. it was truly a beautiful dress, but something about it made you feel off. uncomfortable even.
sigh.
you weren’t dumb. you’ve heard of the numerous affairs within the office between other secretaries and their bosses, often stemming from the constant closeness of the job. you assume this, between you and mr park was also one of those cases.
sex with absolutely no strings attached.
what you didn’t expect was how abruptly he ended things, the man literally abandoning you here in a whole different country without a word. like trash. you know you shouldn’t be upset by it but you are. and now this so-called gift... did he see you as some escort?
before you knew it, you were dressed and standing by the hotel’s entrance, waiting for your ride to the airport. in your grasp was your suitcase and the extravagant gift you planned to return.
“jay’s assistant?”
“oh- mr wang right?”
there stood nicholas, mr park’s friend from yesterday. the man was truly a sight to see. tall, handsome, dressed in a leather jacket, some dark denims, and with hair slicked back.
“that’s me! where’s jay? how dare he leave a beautiful lady waiting by herself?”
his words make you chuckle, your cheeks heating slightly at the random compliment. “he went back to seoul. i’m heading to the airport now, but what are you doing here sir?”
“sir? please. call me nicholas,” he runs his hand through his hair with a laugh, “i came to pick up my bike that jay left and to visit my dad’s hotel.”
ah. so this was his dad’s hotel chain. man was rich rich. and hot.
“hop on, i’ll take you.”
mr wang doesn’t give you much of a choice, and you don’t mind it either way.
the weather was much nicer today, clouds no longer covering the sky. you could actually see everything along the way this time, the breath-taking view of japan and of course, mr wang’s back.
you figured you might have a thing for a man’s backside.
“thank you for the lift sir, the views were so beautiful!”
“again with sir,” he rolls his eyes and hands you your bags, “i’m heading to seoul soon, perhaps then you can take me around.”
“oh definitely!”
“well then,” he hands you his phone, and you just stare at him blankly for a second before realising what he meant. you quickly add your number and watch him drive off, the man no longer a distraction to what had been on your mind before that.
your boss.
-
*knock knock*
“come in.”
to say you were nervous would’ve been quite the understatement. you didn’t know what to expect on meeting him for the first time since that night, or how to act. or more importantly, how he’d act.
“good morning, sir. i have your breakfast and coffee.”
and there in the cold office, sat the man who clouded your thoughts for the entirety of yesterday. you know you shouldn’t give yourself a headache over the whole situation but you can’t help it.
the way he held you, hand grasping your waist, fingers deep inside of you...
get a grip park! you’re at work!
trying your best not to trip on your heels and spill the food, you walk over to place the tray in front of him. as always, the man doesn’t stray away from paperwork, even when you’re standing there in front of him.
“you have a meeting at 10 with mr lee of lee manufacturers. i have prepared the documents on your desk,” you wait for a moment before continuing, “if there’s nothing left sir, i’ll take my leave.”
silence.
you’d be lying if you said the lack of acknowledgment wasn’t disappointing, but at least it told you something. that what happened that night, very much meant nothing to him. and it shouldn’t to you either.
once back outside, you’re met with taehyun coming down the hallway, in his hands a massive bouquet of beautiful flowers.
“these are for you, someone delivered them to front desk just now.”
“me?” you take the bouquet and flip open the little card.
“hope you will love these flowers that are as beautiful as you. see you soon.” - wang.
“wang? who’s that?” taehyun says over your shoulders, just as mr park’s door opens and out comes the man.
he stares at the flowers in your arm for a moment then at you, eyes glaring a hole right through your face.
then he leaves.
the rest of the day is spent alone, dealing with mr park’s paperwork while taehyun accompanied the man on schedules outside.
“miss park, it’s 8pm.”
you almost fall out of your seat from mr park’s sudden voice, the man now standing in front of your desk. you were so focused on your work to even hear the ding of the lift or his footsteps.
it’s then that you realise how dark it had actually gotten outside the windows, an indication that you should’ve gone home long ago.
“ah- sir, i just needed to finish some paperwork,” you were quick to stand, “but why did you come back sir? did you forget something?”
“come into my office.”
you do so without question, trailing behind the man into his office as he goes to pull something out from behind his desk. it’s the white dior shopping bag, the very same one you had put there in the morning when you arrived earlier than him for once, wanting to return it without fuss.
“what is this?” his tone is cold, eyes glaring directly at you.
“i can’t accept such an extravagant gift from you, sir.”
the low scoff he makes catches you off guard, not expecting such a reaction from him at all. your entire body goes tense when he begins walking back over to you, his eyes focused entirely on you.
he’s making you nervous again. the way he’s watching you, the way he’s smirking at you. it all reminds you of that night.
mr park stops when he’s right behind you, his chest slightly pressing into your back. he’s so close, his cologne surrounding you like his hand that’s now gently clasping onto the back of your neck.
“but you can accept flowers from nicholas? right pretty?”
shit.
end.

“I had really good references for each of the main characters, which was really rare and incredible,” she said. “Luckily these guys had the best looking uniforms ever — like really great and beautifully made uniforms and details — but it didn’t exist in the world. The A4 [flight jackets], which are the simple leather jackets, are out there in reproduction land and they’re still popular, but the big jackets with the shearling inside — which was the symbol of the 100th — weren’t out there.” Atwood’s design process was then twofold — she sourced some real aviation jackets and uniforms to use as inspiration and worked with U.K.-based clothing company Eastman Leather, which specializes in reproducing authentic WWII flight jackets and accessories. Overall, Atwood stated her team recreated roughly 250 leather jackets and manufactured 400 to 500 uniforms. ..... “I adapted things, but I always based it on an original [design] that I found,” she said. “I really wanted it to be as authentic as possible.” -Colleen Atwood for WWD

i think one of the biggest steps we, as a society, will be able to take towards sustainability (of, like... everything) is to eliminate the concept of manufactured obsolescence. For big stuff like houses and buildings, but also smaller stuff, especially electronics of all kinds.
And this got a bit long, but the TL;DR (too long; didn't read) is: capitalism is evil and gonna destroy the entire planet unless we abolish it as soon as possible.
There's no real reason why any kind of computer/tablet/phone/etc. can't last more than like 3 years max. It should be highly illegal for companies to push updates onto our electronics that purposely slow them down, or to stop support of "old" operating systems that aren't even 5 years old yet, in favor of getting a new phone with a new operating system for no reason other than to sell people a new phone.
Same goes for storage, kinda. I have an SD card that's about as big as a SIM card and can store 250GB of data. There's no reason why my phones internal storage is only 25GB, except to push "cloud storage" onto people for companies to secretely mine that data to push more advertising onto us. And why is it always ads, anyway? Like, at least offer me a service, but they're not doing that.
And not just phones, but literally everything. There's no reason why a fridge or an oven or an automatic feeder or ANY kind of smart device should need a wifi connection to just do the one thing it's supposed to do. None. These things worked just fine in the part when we didn't have any internet of things type bullshit, there's no reason to make these things worse except to squeeze more money out of people. (I am aware that "smart things" can be incredibly helpful for disabled people to live an independent life. However, in those cases as well, there's no reason why "no internet" should be a fatal point of failure, and there's no reason why something like a thermostat needs to have an internet connection to recieve voice commands. I mean it needs to know like... 3 or 4 words: an activating phrase, "higher", "lower", and numbers. It cannot be complicated enough to require regular updates via internet.)
and non-electronics as well.
Just take clothes.
So many clothes are made out of "polyesther" or "polyacryl" or something else with the word "poly-" at the start, which usually just means "plastic". And I'm sure there are some uses for plastic clothes like if someone has complicated allergies to a bunch of natural fibers, but there's no reason to have more than 80% of all clothes available on the market be either pure plastic or half plastic. 1) it's absolutely atrocious for the environment, because these clothes leech microplastics into waters like no tomorrow while only lasting like 5 years at best 2) they're just terrible quality-wise. I used to wear a plastic jacket in winter, and i would either sweat to death with it closed without even exhausting myself, or freeze like hell with it open. Neither of which are ideal. Then i got a cotton sweater to wear in winter and i didn't sweat, but i wasn't cold either. I was comfortably warm without getting sweaty, because the sweater let my skin breathe. Plastic can't do that. 3) Vegans can yell about this one all they want, but "vegan leather" is also just plastic. there's no such thing as "vegan leather", but ACTUAL leather may harm an animal (though with as much beef that's sold all over the world, there's no way there's a shortage of cow leather), but it's only gonna "harm" ONE animal. Not every single animal on earth due to byproducts of the manufacturing process and the fact that it never fucking goes away. And real leather is so durable. Like, sure, you kill one animal and get its skin for leather (but also its meat for food and everything else, i don't even know how much), if you care for the thing you made from its skin, you're set for literal generations, because it doesn't break after like 5 years. And if that thing does eventually break, you can still break it up and use the leather for new, smaller, things. And once those things break, too, to the point where the leather can't be reused, you can throw it away, knowing that it will decompose soon, instead of sticking around forever.
And I'm sure there's plenty more things, but it all ends up leading back to money and capitalism. Capitalism tells companies to get money. More money. More money. Get absolutely obscene amounts of money.
and of course the first question that regular people always ask is "but why?" But here's the thing: the "why" isn't important in capitalism. There's no reason behind the hoarding of wealth, because the hoarding of wealth is the reason.
and remember the saying "When the Last Tree Is Cut Down, the Last Fish Eaten, and the Last Stream Poisoned, You Will Realize That You Cannot Eat Money"?
Yeah, capitalism doesn't care about the fact that you're cutting down the last tree, killing the last fish, and poisoning the last stream. As long as you're making money, the damage you're doing is irrelevant. There's no cost too great for making money, as long as that cost isn't money.

I had a vision about Eddie and Steve as motorbike riders a couple of months ago, so I decided to write it as a countdown to valentine's :)
word count: 1.3k
*********************
If there was one thing that wouldn’t disappoint Steve, it would be his girl. She would let him ride her from dawn till dusk and dusk till dawn. She helped him mend his broken heart, that happened more often than not. Let him hug her gentle curves  as he glided down the open road, splitting the air as he rocketed his way to his destination. His ever faithful Italian girl, his bobber bike, a Benelli 900 Sei. A manufactured beauty she was, sleek black with strong metallic frames that fit just right under him.
And right now, she was the best company he could ever ask for. As Steve took a particularly curvy road, he swayed to one side so close to the road his knee was touching the tarred ground, friction burning hot on the jeans against his skin. This was good. The adrenaline rush paired with the need to concentrate of the safety of his ride were taking Steve’s mind off his latest relationship endeavor. A failed one, at that.
This time it lasted well over three months, and it could have been perfectly in line with Valentine’s celebration, their third monthsary, if Steve hadn’t caught her kissing another guy when he came by to her workplace to drop her a surprise lunch.
He calmly broke up on the spot with a simple we’re done, and in the bin the carefully packed lunch went. Steve was taking Robin’s advice to simply cut things off if it wasn’t  serving him purpose anymore, and someone who cheated on him barely three months into the relationship wasn’t someone he wanted to keep in his life.
So here he was now, on his best girl riding to nowhere, just so take his mind off things.
Steve exited the highway to take the less traveled road, opting to get lost for half the day before heading back after getting a hearty meal at a random restaurant, whatever that struck him fancy. Sometimes he asked for recommendations from the locals, other times he picked it because the signage looked interesting or the name of the restaurant sounded funny. There was no pattern to his choosing.
But as the splash of the first bout of rain hit his visor, Steve could tell it would derail his plan for the day. He tried to resist. He continued riding in the heavy rain, droplets of water hitting painfully against his leather jacket as he sped ahead. But a gust of wind that came with the torrential rain almost sent him sideways, and he knew fighting mother nature was futile.
He slowed down as an overpass road came into view, with the shaded area underneath it looking inexplicably welcoming, a perfect spot to hide. His bike slowly came to a halt.  He hopped off it and pushed it to the side to have it parked away, and it was only then that he realized he wasn’t alone, his sight fell upon another beauty parked on the dirt by the side of the road.
Steve was immediately enticed. He couldn’t help but reach out, ghosting a touch upon its purplish black body, with white fiery murals on its sides bringing it to life. It was a foreign model to Steve, and now his body was itching to learn all about it, to have it under him and ride it.
“Gorgeous, isn’t she?” A melodious voice emerged from a shadowed area underneath the overpass, and slowly the owner of the voice materialized. With one swift move he took off his helmet, whipping his long hair back and forth a couple of times like he just stepped out of a goddamn shampoo commercial, and a smile playing by his lips. “Hi.”
It left Steve's jaw slightly agape. Thankfully, it wasn’t visible thanks to the helmet and visor. He blinked a couple of times, and swallowed hard at the sight of a beautiful man before him, with curly hair framing his sweet grinning face as he spoke about his girl. He was rocking on his heels as he tucked his hands in his black leather jackets, looking mighty excited when Steve was showing interest on his ride.
“Hi,” Steve finally managed, after forcing his brain to come up with something. After pulling off his helmet, he ran his fingers through his hair and returned a smile to the beautiful man before him. “She really is gorgeous. All yours?”
“Yup,” he answered. He then suddenly shifted his gaze to the sky behind Steve, looking at the ever growing rain that splattered as a gust of wind blew the water stream towards them. He quickly reached out to wrap his hand around Steve’s wrist and pulled him deeper underneath the overpass. “The rain’s getting heavier. Don’t want you to get wet.”
Steve shrugs. “I’m already wet,” he gestured at his thoroughly soaked jeans. He was pretty sure he could fill a bucket with water if he were to wring out his jeans. “I’m Steve,” he introduced himself.
“Eddie,” the other guy replied, and gestured at his motorbike with his chin. “She’s Belladonna.”
Eddie patted the clearing next to him for Steve to sit. At times like this, even the slightest proximity to heat wouldn’t go unappreciated. “That’s a beautiful name. And I’ve never seen one like her before.” Steve commented, gazing at it from a distance after settling by Eddie’s side. “Is she foreign?”
“The name came from a poisonous plant, and yeah, she is foreign,” said Eddie as he pointed at the bike. “Made in Japan. It's a Suzuki 800 Intruder. At par with some smaller version of Moto Guzzi or Ducati cruiser with a fraction of the price. Well, minus the import duty, that is, but I know a guy from work.”
“Wow. Engine?”
“V2 twin. Perfectly balanced.”
“Sounds like a sweet ride,” Steve chided.
Eddie was grinning proudly at that, eyes practically twinkling, and Steve thought he looked really cute. And wasn’t that something? He thought he was out here riding in the rain to mend a broken heart.
“ I just got her a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve only got a day off today to finally ride her. Heading upstate to visit my uncle, but, well, you know the rest of the story,” he gestured out at the heavy downpour, with a thunder splitting the sky.
The afternoon suddenly got a whole lot darker, and Steve shuddered at the sudden loud sound that was booming above them. After sitting still for a while, the chill from the surroundings started to get to him. He rubbed his hands over his arms up and down to generate heat. When that failed, he shoved his hands in his brown leather jacket, and that at least prevented his fingers from freezing and falling off of his hands. When he turned to face Eddie again, Eddie was already scooting close next to Steve. “Maybe this will make you feel less cold?”
“Thanks,” stuttered Steve as he get adjusted to the sudden close proximity between them. He could clearly see the brown of his doe eyes that was staring deep into Steve’s own, his fogged up breaths filling the space between them with each word leaving his mouth.
Steve could feel his cheeks heating up. “I really didn’t expect it to rain today.” He paused for a moment. “Actually, I didn’t really plan to ride today. Just needed to clear my mind, and suddenly, the key is in the ignition, and off I go. Not even sure where I’m headed. Was just thinking of getting one good meal at some random stop, and then turning back before going home. But at this rate…”
“Well you’re in luck, then,” replied Eddie as he kicked up the dirt and pointed at the road beyond the overpass with the toe of his boot. “There’s a small town up ahead and there’s a restaurant down the main street that sells a really mean stew.”
Steve saw an opportunity and seized his chance. He realized he quite liked this stranger, and maybe a meal before they parted ways wasn’t such a bad idea. “Well that’s it then. I have got to try this mean stew before I head back. You’re showing me the way, right? We can have a late lunch together as I tell you about my girl?”
Eddie seemed to be hopping on to the same line of thought, and it didn’t take long for the curve of his lips to morph into a teethy, dimpled grin. A gleam of excitement was reflected in his eyes.
“My greatest pleasure, Steve.”

Kadoya ‘Orb Knuckle’ Leather Moto-Gloves Kadoya stands tall as the oldest leather jacket manufacturer in Japan. Founded by Shojiro Fukano in 1935, the company’s establishment precedes World War II by 6 years, specializing in repair, dye, and tailoring. The brand has been rooted in Asakusa since debut, and often serviced American soldiers that were stationed in the East. From Tabi’s to obscure dying processes and special requests, customization remains a cornerstone of the brand’s ethos, encouraged by staff and tailors alike. Kadoya’s commitment to quality blends effortlessly with an acute eye for design, making for some of Japan’s best outerwear to date. This particular pair of ‘Orb Knuckle’ gloves are designed specifically for the safety and protection of the wearer, with its reinforced wrist guards and allowing for the rider to be more secure, with hardened padding on the knuckles to slide as opposed to scrape. Kadoya incredibly blurs the lines between functionality and fashion. With slight peeling on the interior leather lining, these gloves are a size large and are otherwise in great condition. Here is the opportunity to purchase a futuristic pair of gloves from heritage Japanese leather goods manufacturer Kadoya Leathers.

@squidaresquishy replied to your post: My wool for Andreas got here today and it's so
where do u buy actual nice quality historically appropriate fibers (wool, linen)??? all i can find on the obvious sites like joann's or craft stores are like… weird polyester faux-flannel or cotton
So I have a fancier answer, a slightly less-fancy answer, and significantly less-fancy answer, both because it's good to spread your net wide regardless and also because as a cosplayer/costume-maker without much money, I've found that sometimes you have to get creative.
I bought my wool for my Andreas costume from Pendleton Woolen Mill because a friend who lives near them and is working on the same costume tipped me off to a clearance sale they were having. They're an example of a nice, high-quality seller that I usually couldn't afford to buy from where timing made all the difference (and I will absolutely be watching their site for sales in the future). Other stores I've heard friends recommend that sell natural fabrics, some of them specifically catered to historical costuming, include Burnley & Trowbridge and Silk Baron, and the other day while doing research for Andreas, I was poking around on the Historical Costuming subreddit and came across this list, which looks solid. On the whole I don't have a ton of recommendations though, since I rarely have the money to buy fabrics from more specialty retailers.
(Oh, and it's not fabric, but if you're ever looking for leather, Tandy Leather is another great place to get historical costume materials)
The slightly-less fancy answer is that I buy most of my cosplay fabrics, historical costuming ones included, from a local fabric outlet, which is not something every city has but has been an absolute treasure trove for me. They sell everything at 50% off and have some very weird finds (like the metallic linen I used for my Golden Guard tunic), but it's also been a good place to look for natural fabrics. I found nice silk and wool there for my sister's Cassandra de Rolo costume, and it's where I'm hoping I'll find another wool for Andreas' jacket. Even if your city doesn't have a fabric outlet, it may have local, non-chain fabric stores that are worth investigating (though the affordability may vary). I found out about the place near me through other cosplay friends, so asking around in local crafting and cosplay communities may lead you somewhere. If you're looking for historical fabrics specifically, I'd consider bothering the local SCA chapter about local recommendations!
Last though -- nice fabrics can be found in weird places. As a poor cosplayer who is usually trying to figure out the best way to hit the "nice materials" and "affordability" sweet spot, I've made a habit of checking out local thrift stores and yard sales for fabric whenever I can. Sometimes that looks like nabbing a $2 sheet to sew a cloak mock-up out of, but if you're persistent you can sometimes make pretty incredible finds. A few months ago I found a plain white linen curtain set that I nabbed knowing I would want for a costume at some point, and sure enough now my current plan is to use it for Andreas' shirt. It cost me maybe $8, which is insane for that amount of linen -- but not for thrift store curtains. The biggest challenge with this method is knowing what you've found. In that case I lucked out and the curtain tag was still attached, telling me they were a 100% linen blend, but sometimes you have to get more creative. We're big fans of the "If something looks and feels suspiciously like wool or linen, buy it, bring it home, and set a small piece of it on fire to test it" method in my household (natural fibers burn, manufactured ones melt; it's a legit test and you can read up on it!) but that does require a certain familiarity with wool/linen/etc to be able to pick out likely culprits. If you can make it work though, this is absolutely the cheapest way to get natural fabrics, and I've found it to be very worth my time.
I hope some of that helps! In general a "leave no stone unturned" method where you nab fabrics from a few different places works well, as does being willing to employ a little creativity. Best of luck with your own projects!

Demons Grasp - Chapter 15
An hour later I am standing out front waiting for Jacky to arrive, when a gray minivan stops right in front of me. The doors open and Jacky gets out, followed by several men.
“What's with the surprised face?” she asks. “I guess I was not expecting the soccer mom brigade.” “Would you have preferred seven Harleys to pull up? Because this would not have drawn any attention at all.” Good point.
I regard the men standing in front of me. They all tower over me. Their outfits are a variation of jeans, combat boots and leather jackets. When one of them turns around to close up the car, I see no badges on the leather. But this is probably another precaution to avoid unwanted attention. One of the men chose a vest clearing the view of tattoos snaking over his impressive, muscular arms, covering every inch of his skin, even the hands.
“You must be MC” one of them addresses me. “I’m Beaker. Those are Curly, Hyde, Nitro, Gunner and Midas. Last time we saw you, you passed out and fell right into my arms.” He lets out a bellowing laugh. I shudder at the thought of last night, but force a smile on my face. “Hi. I really appreciate your help.” Back then and for what's to come. “Let's get inside and I’ll bring you up to speed.”
********
“So we believe that Jake is held at this facility. Unless they got out via another way that is not covered by CCTV.” I finish my recollection of our findings so far. We are seated on the couches and some extra chairs we pulled up. Max and Dylan have joined us.
“Do we know why they are keeping him alive?” Jacky asks. I shake my head. The sight of Jake being tied to that chair, slumped forward flashes through my mind again. “I can only speculate.”
Dylan now put a printout on the coffee table. “I was able to pull an original blueprint of the factory building. There might have been modifications over the years, but this is the best we’ve got at this point.” Everyone shifts forward to take a look at the plan. “There are two entries. Here. And here. The western door is closer to the street. In both cases there are hallways connecting smaller rooms and a set of staircases. Both hallways lead to the manufacturing hall. Upstairs are offices.”
“And we do not know what awaits us inside,” one of the men states. Hyde, I think. “Currently no.” Max. “But Flex was working on something.” He waves Flex over, who immediately gets up and comes up to us. “Yep?” “Any progress on the connection?” “The statistics we collected during the hack were a dead end. But I had a look at that phone you swiped. Judging from Canes timeline we established, he was connected to a wifi while in the vicinity of the paper factory. If we get close enough, I can crack it. If we are lucky, they have surveillance connected to the wifi. Once we have access to that, we will have eyes on the place.” “And you can do this without being detected?” Beaker asks. Flex scoffs. “You’re trying to insult me?”
“So we have to get there without being seen by CCTV in case they have access to it, too.” I ponder. “I will be taking care of that from here,” Dylan says.
Jacky frowns. “It would be good to have a distraction, cause some confusion, while we try to get in. To make sure they are not just cutting their losses, whatever those are, the moment they see us coming.“ “What do you have in mind?” I ask. She shakes her head. “That is your turf.”
“I’ve got some more intel” I hear Tess’ voice behind me. “I won’t go into all the details now, but Maya and I found a number of encrypted messages on Crane's phone. Their content suggests that those people are involved with a group stealing classified information and selling it to the highest bidder. We are talking not just about corporate data but also national security files and the likes.”
An idea forms in my head. It brings back some painful memories. “What if we would record a video confronting them with all the information we have gathered. Once you broke into their network, would it be possible to disguise this as live stream sent from here?” Max looks at Flex, who just shrugs. “I don’t think this would be a problem.” “Great. So, while they are busy with that, probably trying to take it down, we make our move.”
“We?” Hyde growls. “You are not thinking about going inside with us, right?” “I am not going to just sit on my ass.” The thought terrifies me. Still, I have never been as certain about anything in my life as I am about this. “There is no way I’m going to let a civilian walk into the line of fire. You’ll just get yourself killed!” I glare at him, arms folded over my chest. Then, Jacky speaks up, surprising us all. “I am okay with it. You will stay with me. When I say run, you run. When I say down, you drop and keep down until I say otherwise. Understood?” “Yes.” Hyde opens his mouth to argue further, but Jacky shoots him down with a look that could freeze lava. “Understood?” Directed at him. “Your funeral.” He shrugs.
“So, about that video...” a child-like grin has formed on Flex’ face. “I have just the right thing for that.” I see Max roll his eyes and hear a sigh from Tess.

Irresistible Force - Part 2
The British Boy
Rating: M
Characters: Jakob, FCorrin, Xander, Silas, Camilla.
- the coldest shoulder this side of the Atlantic -
@cafedeamour you’ve been so patient, thank you always for your support.
PART 1 | PART 3
---
The first morning was so much harder than he thought it would be.
And Jakob had a pretty good idea of how hard he thought it should have been – he was a horribly heavy sleeper at the best of times, and mornings were his least favourite part of the day. One of the major motivating factors for entering his line of work was the fact that a security guard mostly operated in the evening, after things had closed, or when it was dark enough to warrant the need for additional protection.
The last time Jakob had been up at this sort of hour had been when he was still enrolled in the military.
But that was years ago.
Out of reflex, he almost reached for his uniform, but remembered that he needed to blend in inconspicuously with a group of students, and decided instead to settle for something more casual. Fortunately, his harness wasn’t too obvious with a jacket over the top, and satisfied with this elegant solution in his state of semi-sleep, he chose to take an expandable baton and a shoulder bag along with a dusty lined notebook and a ballpoint pen.
If he was going to attend lectures, he may as well pretend to take notes.
Yawning desperately, he nursed a tall cup of espresso as he stepped onto the subway and tried not to nod off to the gentle sway of the train.
At Corrin’s door, he gave his face one last tired rub and mentally shook himself, before ringing the bell. The muffled sound of the chime resounding through the apartment faded, and after a long moment, he pressed the button again.
The intercom hummed to life.
“- akob.”
There was a sound, somewhere between a groan and a yawn.
“Dun’ you hava card? Just commin.”
She didn’t even unlock the door. With a brief fumble, Jakob extracted the card from his wallet, scanned it against the reader and entered the pin.
Pale autumn sunlight streaked through the half-opened curtains and filled the skylights with a wan, white glow.
From where he remembered her room to be, Corrin emerged, or at least part of her face peered out at Jakob from behind the door. “Sorry,” she apologised, her voice slightly clearer. “I’ll be right there.”
And she vanished again, her door clicking shut.
Jakob felt his eyebrows lift in disbelief. “Are you not even up yet?” He glanced at his watch, an old but reliable thing with a worn leather strap. It was three minutes past eight. “You’re going to be late for the first day of semester.”
There was no reply.
After several minutes of awkwardly anticipating that she would finally come out of her room, he gave up and left his bag at the door, wandering over to her kitchen to examine the stove top and oven. They seemed barely used, new and still bearing that sheen of freshly manufactured, untouched brightness. Curious, he pulled open one of her cupboards.
The shelves were mostly empty, bearing a few tins of tea, a jar of peanut butter and a bag of sugar that had been snipped at the corner, sealed with a piece of tape, but had uncurled. Jakob sighed at the thought of the granules clumping together. The next cupboard held mugs, glasses, plates and bowls.
Her sleek silver refrigerator had half a tray of very old ice cubes in the freezer, a carton of milk and half a dozen eggs that had gone out of date.
What on earth did the girl eat?
Doubt stirred in him as he closed the fridge door and wandered over to the windows to draw back the curtain. Was this something acceptable for a bodyguard to do? He supposed that his job was to concern himself with her well-being, but surely a line had to be drawn somewhere – part of him wondered if it could perhaps be somewhere after the nagging urge he had to make and feed her a decent meal.
“Are you poking around my kitchen?”
And there she was, dressed more weather-appropriately in dark tights and a large knitted blue jumper cinched at her waist with a wide black belt. Her hair was tied back and it fell over her shoulder as she bent to tie the laces on her shoes.
“Do you have a maid?”
“Yeah. She comes by on Fridays to tidy the place up.”
“What about food?”
Corrin looked up. “What about it?”
“What do you eat?” He was starting to feel a bit silly, pressing her for answers that were probably none of his business.
“I eat out a lot.”
That… would not do. He refrained from saying so though, watching her check her phone, her bag, pick her keys out of a bowl she kept on the kitchen counter. He noticed a Mercedes badge on the fob.
“Why do you care?”
He frowned at the attitude behind the question. Fine then. “I don’t.”
As she passed him, she made a small noise in the back of her throat. “I smell coffee. I want coffee.”
He took a long, pointed sip from the cup in his hand and wordlessly reached to hold open the door for her.
It was half-past eight by the time they reached the basement car park and she held out the car key to Jakob.
“You drive, right?”
He lifted the fob and thumbed the button.
A beautiful black Mercedes AMG GT Coupe quietly flickered her lights in reply.
Ah, this, this he could get used to.
---
“So are you British?”
The abrupt question was oddly, less surprising than the sudden appearance of the person who voiced it, and Jakob barely managed to slide along the bench in time for the tall young woman to plonk herself down beside him, uncomfortably close. Had he been any slower, she might have simply sat in his lap.
When he didn’t reply, she took this as a cue to elaborate. “Like, your accent. It’s all jolly good, and cheerio then?”
Jakob very slowly lowered his newspaper and turned the page.
“Are you from London? There’s something about you that’s a little bit Mister Darcy.”
There had been a stabbing a few stations over from where Corrin lived. He made a mental note to opt for the car rather than public transport, when with her, at least for the next few weeks.
The page over mentioned the results of a local dog show. He wondered if Corrin liked dogs.
“Why the long hair? Is that a thing over there?”
“Leave him alone, Charlotte!”
Jakob felt the tension bleed out of his shoulders at the sound of Corrin’s voice.
“He’s not the multimillionaire you think he is,” she teased, sliding a tray down onto the table in front of them as she took the seat opposite.
Charlotte huffed, stealing a fry from the plate on the tray. “Well, you’re pretty well-off, and he’s your cousin, right? Worth a try.”
“Not if you don’t want to experience the coldest shoulder this side of the Atlantic.” Corrin shot him a look, pushing two wrapped sushi rolls and a bottle of juice in his direction.
“I resent the title,” he intoned.
“Ooh, it talks!” Charlotte exclaimed, dramatically throwing a hand over her chest.
The fourth person to join them at the table, a boy named Silas, cast him a wary look, his eyes darting to where Jakob accepted his lunch from Corrin.
Barely four hours into the job, Jakob quickly began to understand why Xander had been so firm about ensuring that Corrin was accompanied at all times.
There was something magnetic about the way she spoke, the way she responded to the world that made people gravitate to her, drawn in by a pure sense of honesty and wonder that seemed to be a consequence of the time she spent being shielded from the public eye.
It probably shouldn’t have disappointed him to realise that her apparently flirtatious behaviour the day before was actually an inherent part of her nature – in truth, she was genuinely friendly and charming – and he was an idiot for thinking that he might have been special.
She attracted friends and admirers as easily as she drew breath, and with that sort of attention came the sort that was less desirable as well.
It did not help that she liked to hand over her trust with the drop of a hat, and on top of all this, she was – unfairly, almost – good-looking.
Only in the last ten minutes or so when he had watched her in the queue at the cafeteria, Jakob saw at least two other students stare her up and down as she purchased lunch.
And that wasn’t including Silas. The boy was hopelessly besotted with her.
But Corrin was just a soft giggle, a friendly wave. A warm ray of sunlight, a gentle breeze and the fresh scent of flowers. She made people want her, and she had no idea.
Corrin was dangerously oblivious.
“So how long are you in the States for?” Silas asked.
“At least until he finishes his degree,” Corrin supplied for him, and Jakob let her fill in the story as much as she pleased. “You’ve put it off for long enough, right?”
He shrugged. “I had other priorities.”
“You just came over here because you know chicks dig the accent,” Charlotte accused. “Get laid, and get qualified.”
“Charlotte!” Corrin laughed sheepishly. “He doesn’t have time for that, he’s got work, too.”
“Oh? What do you do?”
“Hospitality,” Jakob replied smoothly, catching Corrin’s eye as he thought of her empty and unused kitchen. He wondered how many times Silas had been over to her apartment. Perhaps a background check on the boy would be a good idea.
Corrin stabbed her fork into her plate of noodles. Jakob noted that she had barely touched her food. “Yeah, he does all sorts of weird hours, but it does come with perks.”
“I guess that means no parties, then?” Silas was almost hilariously hopeful at the prospect.
“No, no,” Corrin cut in quickly. “He doesn’t mind parties. He’ll go.” She glanced at Jakob as if to check that this was actually the case, when in reality, he knew it was a plea for permission.
Please, let me go… please don’t tell Xander.
Not that it mattered.
“O-okay then,” Silas tried and failed to not appear disappointed by this. It was almost endearing, and annoyingly, Jakob could see the appeal of the young man.
With a small sigh, he took a bite of his sushi roll and turned back to the newspaper.
Even without any sort of prior knowledge, he knew the background check would be clean, and there would be no excuse to excise Smitten Silas from Corrin’s life.
---
The drive home was slow and hampered by traffic.
“You can go as soon as we get back,” she told him, her face lit by the blue glow of her phone as she scrolled absently through her Twitter feed. “I’m only going to eat dinner and study.”
Jakob nodded. “You have my number and my pager. Call if your plans change.”
She lowered her phone momentarily, staring into the rear view mirror to catch his eye. “How long does it take you to get to my place from yours? Do you drive?”
“Fifteen minutes by train. Possibly less if I took my bike.”
“You cycle?” She seemed thoroughly amused by the thought.
“My motorbike.”
“Ah.” Less amused. Strangely thoughtful. “You should come by bike, then. You can park it in the car space.”
Jakob hummed a non-committal reply, but he didn’t have any intention of taking the bike tomorrow. He needed both his hands free.
“Coincidentally, Miss Nohr, how do you like your coffee?”

What is the best leather to use for bags?
Your best leather choice depends on the job you want that leather to do. Leather can be dense and protective, breathable, conforming, stiff or soft. There is a sensual aspect of leather that no other material mimics; nothing compares with the smell of leather, the look and fit of well-polished leather shoes, a smart leather jacket, a beautiful, well-made leather handbag, or briefcase. At one time, it seemed leather products were ubiquitous, but now this superior material has been replaced by fabric, vinyl, and other lesser goods.
Leather is a product of animal hide. There are various sources, including (but not limited to) cow, calf, lamb, deer, and goat. Assorted grades of leather among those sources further classify the leather and include full-grain, top-grain, suede, genuine, and bonded leather. The differences among those grades are related to the thickness and finishing processes, both affecting durability and function.
Full grain leather is top quality. The leather has not been buffed, sanded, or treated to remove marks on the skin. The entire thickness of the skin is used, and doing it this way makes the leather strong, durable. Full-grain leather is used for the heaviest duty bags. Top grain leather is next in quality. The very top segment of the leather is split away, and with it, the imperfections. The remaining layer is sanded smooth for a beautiful finish. High-end leather handbags and other products where a supple, elegant finish is desired are most commonly made of top-grain leather. The leather loses the quality of breath-ability and resistance to dirt and stain when the top layer is removed. With top-grain leather, it is essential to know how to care for the leather and always have cleaning supplies available. Suede is the next grade of leather and is noted for its distinctive texture. It has a napped surface and is the underside of the skin, formed when the leather is split. Cow leather suede is coarse, but suede from goat, calf, deer, and lamb is much softer and thus preferred. Compared to top- or full-grain leather, suedes are thinner, more porous, and this affects its overall durability A similar product, Nubuck, is a top grain product that is similar to suede produced from cowhide. It is lightly sanded on the outside and velvety soft on the inside. Genuine leather isn’t! In spite of how it sounds, genuine leather is not a high-quality leather. It has an artificial leather grain pressed into the surface. To emulate the natural leather appearance, the surface is sprayed with a stain or dye. It doesn’t last as long or look as nice as the better quality grains of leather. The words ‘genuine’ leather for many intone a concept of top of the line. In reality, it’s not as expensive to purchase compared to the better quality versions, and ““genuine leather” handbags can in fact be purchased nationwide at a well known “mart.” Bonded leather is the lowest grade. It is made of leftover scrap pieces of leather that are cut to shreds. The shreds are laid on top of a fiber sheet and held together using polyurethane or latex. With bonded leather, the level of organic leather versus chemical content is indiscernible, and only the manufacturer would know. Lets make this relevant:
Full-grain cow hide would be a great choice for a rugged looking duffle bag, motorcycle saddle bags, or even a horse saddle. Top grain lambskin makes beautiful ladies leather jackets and gloves, and well-finished handbags as well. Suedes of any source make beautiful jackets, vests, and shoes. It must be noted that suedes must be pretreated before exposure to the elements because they totally lack water resistance. The trouble needed to pretreat good suede is totally worth the impact those shoes, that jacket or that hat will have on your style! Genuine or bonded leather would be good choices for a piece that you don’t expect to have a long life. For example, a teenager who doesn’t understand the value of a stylish lamb skin leather bag won’t appreciate the expense either. For this age group, consider purchasing “genuine” or bonded leather that has a good style for your teen at a good price point for your wallet.
Because leather is practical and sensual, many consider it to be a superior choice of materials for handbags and other stylish goods.
