da WHOLE HOG for bambi + whichever of your newer ocs pairs best with her ;]
Hell yeah, let's do it!!
I can already tell this'll be a long one so have a page break to save yourself some dash space
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^This is Bambi! ^This is Jak L!
✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?
Bambi -> you actually gave Bambi her name if I remember right!! I think the logic was Wilton Rader (deer motif) + Walt (Disney) = Bambi
It was funny & fit so well that I didn't bother looking for any other names after that
Jak L. -> When I was making her originally all I knew was that I wanted a pitch black head & red eyes - the tall ears were a last minute addition that made her look like Anubis to me so....well, i just couldn't resist the pull of the pun
🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range)
Bambi -> It kinds depends? I jump around her timeline a lot when i draw her so here's a good rule a thumb; if her hair is in pigtails, she's meant to be no older than 10, long ponytail caps at 16, and her shorter, shoulder length cut means she's 17-19
Jak L. -> Around 18 or 19 - a little older than Bambi to up her 'cool factor' in her eyes. They meet during Bambi's first attempt to go to (Human) school
🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)?
Bambi -> Crushing hard on Jak but trying to play it cool. She's the poster child for a rebellious teen and Bambi is mesmerized by her confidence and defiance
Jak L. -> Not too keen on relationships after getting cursed by her ex during a messy breakup (she doesn't like to talk about it) Bambi's adoration is not lost on her, but she worries the curse may intervene if she gets too close
🍕 - What is their favorite food?
Bambi -> She absolutely loooovees Lake Trout. There's an abundance of them near her childhood home, so her dads cooked it for dinner often. She used to get sick of it but on long trips it's nice to be reminded of home.
Jak L. -> It used to be a lemon butter chicken thighs, but Jak's curse won't let her eat 'anything that bleeds.' She's found Chicken of the Woods to be a decent replacement, but it's just not the same.
💼 - What do they do for a living?
Bambi -> Money isn't really used outside of Human settlements, but Bambi will run errands for her uncle Warren in exchange for magical items she can sell or use. Due to the nature of his work, the 'simple errands' have a habit of becoming day long quests instead.
Jak L. -> Works part time as a babysitter for human/monster couples. Part of this job includes helping deliver the child to the other parent's home, as neither is allowed to live in the other's community. The journey can be dangerous, but she knows the trail like the back of her hand - meaning her fare can cost as much as she likes.
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?
Bambi -> Loves wrestling and will never say no if challenged. The scruffier the struggle the more fun she has ((she also enjoys a bit of whittling due to her dad's influence but will never admit that to him))
Jak L. -> Secretly enjoys climbing up trees to write poetry. She feels her poems are too soft and melancholic for the mysterious punk rebel persona she's trying to sculpt, so no one's ever read em :(
🎯 -What do they do best?
Bambi -> Despite wrestling being her favorite pastime, Bambi is best at parkour! The Jek taught her how to take advantage of her digitigrade legs to give her a better boost in agility
Jak L. -> Jak is convinced she's the best at everything she does, but her true passion lies in lyrical prose.
🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?
Bambi -> Other than wrestling, Bambi loves to fish! She doesn't use a rod or bait, preferring to catch them with her own hands and teeth (not always a successful method, but it's endlessly fun for her)
She hates feeling caged in or restricted, something she and Wilton argue about often.
Jak L. -> Despite how she makes it seem, Jak loves teaching and watching over the children she's put in charge of. She likes giving them the time to explore, vent, and whatever else they want but rarely have the freedom to do.
She hates authority in all it's forms, holding a strong belief that anyone in a position of power will abuse it. It's just a matter of when.
❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?
Bambi -> She'd been around 12 years old, on a visit with Wilton into a human settlement so they could sell his carvings. She caught one of the older boys trying to set fire to their stand and tackled him. She walked away with a few scratches while he limped away with a broken nose. Her father was displeased sure, but that was nothing compared to the pride she felt at winning her first brawl.
Jak L. -> A month or two after meeting Bambi, she had introduced her to her uncle; a necromancer. Jak had always wanted to learn magic but had never found a teacher patient enough to show her. It took the whole day to master but the Lich Doctor taught her how to heal minor cuts and scrapes. It may have only been a simple spell but it meant the world to her.
✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?
Bambi -> Wilton had gotten sick and stayed worryingly ill for weeks; it didn't seem like he'd get any better. Bambi offered to get the Lich Doctor to help but he was adamantly against it, resulting in a nasty argument and Bambi leaving anyway. By the time she returned, her dad had already passed. Sure, her uncle assured her that he could reincarnate him, but it didn't change the fact that her last words to him had been "I hate you"
Jak L. -> Jak had hidden herself in her favorite tree, happily writing poems no one would ever see. Her ex didn't like the thought of her keeping secrets from them, leading to a shouting match and a frenzied fight over the pages. Once read, he misinterpreted her poems as an admission to cheating; burning her work and cursing her to never be loved again. She's been looking for a way to break it ever since.
🧊 - Is their current design the first one?
Bambi -> Not at all really. The only thing left over from her first design is her yellow flannel - it's her signature character color! she looks weird without it now!!
Jak L. -> Yeah, I made Jak in January so there hasn't been a lot of (if any) evolution in her design (yet)
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
Bambi -> Originally I wanted to make a non-canon fankid for Wilton & Walt / The Jek to explore what they'd be like as parents. I based her personality off a little girl I saw aggressively splashing in rain puddles and laughing evilly. the rest is history
Jak L. -> Design practice! She wasn't going to be an OC at first, just an exercise in character design but when I finished I liked the potential too much for her to just be a one off.
🌂 - What genre do they belong in?
Bambi -> YA fantasy but preferably one that has more fucked up freaky little creatures ((like the spiderwick chronicles))
Jak L. -> Whatever genre Rebel Without a Cause was ((add in a fantasy or horror element so she can keep her face))
💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality?
Bambi -> Demigirl + Lesbian! ❤️🧡🤍🩷💜
Jak L. -> Transfemme + Bisexual! ❤️💜💙
🙌 - How many sibling does your OC have?
Bambi -> she tried really hard to get her dads to grow a new sibling but Wilton wouldn't have it (Bambi suspects Walt planted one anyway, but has no proof)
Jak L. -> She's unsure if she has any siblings. Maybe she does, maybe she doesn't. Jak doesn't know and doesn't care to find out.
🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like?
Bambi -> Loving but a bit strained. Her parents' over-protectiveness kept her from exploring anything beyond the river mill for years and their secrecy prevented her from learning anything about their pasts. She wishes they'd respect her autonomy and not keep so many secrets from her
Jak L. -> Cold and distant. All she knows about them is that they left her behind and disappeared. She doesn't know if they died, but she wouldn't be upset if they did. As far as she's concerned, her father is the sun and her mother the moon
🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?
Bambi -> all the potential pathways I could take her character! Her storyline isn't set in stone like some of my other OCs so I have a lot of fun putting her in Situations™
Jak L. -> her design for sure. She's incredibly fun to draw, especially her locs & baggy t-shirt
✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC?
Bambi -> Getting back in the habit of drawing her again now that I've gotten over my second-hand embarrassed ab sharing my stuff. I've definitely got more notes about her than I do drawings
Jak L. -> Only very recently started fleshing her out via notes/short stories. It's been fun getting to know what her personality is going to be like
💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC?
Bambi -> I don't think I've ever thought ab killing Bambi off, not even in an angsty one-off. She's got too much of a story to tell to cut it short like that
Jak L. -> kinda? But not really dedicated to it just yet. She's too new for me to want to get rid of so quickly.
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
Bambi -> She'll claim she doesn't, but she's absolutely Claustrophobic
Jak L. -> Not exactly Pyrophobic since she can be around campfires or a fireplace well enough, but she will refuse to interact with it in any way that doesn't involve putting it out
🍩 -Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?
Bambi -> The Big Secret her family has been hiding from her ((she hasn't really met Him yet))
Jak L. -> Jak sees every established institution as her arch nemesis
🎓 - How long have you had the OC?
Bambi -> oh man it's been a loongg while....I think since 2017 or 2018? That makes her about 7 or 8 years old....wow...
Jak L. -> Jak is about 4 months old ‼️
🍥 - What age were you when you created the OC?
Bambi -> I was probably 16 or 17 when I first sketched her up
Jak L. -> Can confidently confirm that I was 22 when Jak popped onto my canvas
Phew! You made it to the end! Thanks!

Food related Rain World headcanons or something
Honey is bright red and glows slightly, and due to the aggressive nature of the bees it's incredibly dangerous to collect without proper gear and training (also medieval beekeepers dyed the wicker basket looking parts of their masks light red for color coordination because it's cool)
Eggbug eggs are like caviar rather than chicken eggs
So are fire eggs but they're spicy and more delicate (and also way more expensive)
Popcorn is kind of an all-purpose plant food-wise; you can grind it into flour for baking and stuff, you can take off the kernels and season/butter them for a snack, the outer shell can be used to wrap things if you don't have monster kelp or pole plant leaves, etc
Speaking of which! Monster kelp and pole plants are both very common basic leafy vegetables (you need to be careful harvesting them though); monster kelp is more bitter and very slick, and pole plant leaves are sickly sweet (they're almost always boiled before consumption to dilute them) and very sticky and the "pole" part is mostly used as a seasoning
Glow weed is like if you took a watermelon and made the rind the thickness of apple peel or something, and it has a mild taste
Slime mold is like a marshmallow with nutrients and also it's not made from animal parts
There are a few types of eggs typically used for cooking and breakfasts; noodlefly eggs are the main ones due to them being a nice color and easy to collect if you know how, vulture eggs are the second most common because while they taste the best and have a natural saltiness to them they're really dangerous to collect, and miros bird eggs are the rarest because even though they taste good and are easy to cook they also have a slightly metallic aftertaste to them when prepared wrong (and also miros birds can't really be domesticated, which makes them way harder to collect than noodlefly eggs or vulture eggs)
The shells of cherrybomb thingies are fully edible, but if you try to eat the actual thingies your head will probably blow up
Centipedes are the main meat but instead of giving you salmonella or something when you eat them raw they'll either paralyze you if they're small or stop your heart instead if they're big! :D
Also they taste very different based on the type of centipede, age, and environment (there's probably things like "gourmet young centipedes imported from outer expanse!!!" or something
Bubble fruit is impossible to eat dry, but when you put it in water it's basically glow weed with way more flavor and a really hard seed in the center (i think it probably tastes best with iced mineral water)
You can actually use any liquid thin enough but that doesn't mean it's always good idea. Like you shouldn't put it in ramen broth why would you do that that would taste horrible (it probably tastes really good in other fruit juices though)
Rain deer are often kept as a basic general livestock since they produce both milk and wool And they can be ridden
And I can't think of anything else right now

Fantasy Guide to Feasts, Food and Drink
Tumblr media
Picture yourself at a banquet held at the local Lord's castle. The music is playing, the people are chatting and rustling about in their best clothes. You sit at a table and what sits before you? Not chicken nuggets, my friend.
Food is always one of the staples of any world you build. You can get a feel of class, society and morality just by looking at the spread before you on the table.
Food for lower classes (Peasants)
Most peasants lived off the land, rearing flocks, tilling fields and tending orchards. If they lived near the sea, lakes, rivers or streams, they would fish. But since they lived on land owned by churches or lords, they would only be allowed a portion of what they grew. In cities, the peasants would buy food from one another at the market.
Tumblr media
Peasants would make bread out of rye grain, that would make the bread very dark. In some communities they would make sourdough, which involves using a piece of dough you made the day before to make that day's bread.
Eggs were a source of food that was easy to come by as farmers kept chickens on hand.
Cheese and butter would be sold and used in the farm.
Jam would also be made as it was easy to preserve and sell.
Peasants would not eat much meat. Chickens made money by laying eggs, pigs could be fattened and sold for profit and cows and goats would be used for milk. By killing any of these animals for food they would loose a portion of money. Poaching (hunting on private land owned by the lord) would come with severe penalties.
Pottage and stew were a favourite of peasants as they could throw any vegetables or bit of meat or fish in a pot to cook for a few hours. It wasn't a difficult dish to make and often inexpensive.
Pies, pasties and pastries would be a favourite at inns and taverns in towns and cities most containing gravy, meat and vegetables.
With most villages and farms set close to forests, many peasants could find berries at the edge of fields. Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries would have all grown wild.
Food for Nobility & Royalty
Tumblr media
Nobility and Royalty could always afford better food than the poor. However it might be a patch more unhealthy than the poor's fare. Nobility and Royalty weren't fans of vegetables.
The rich would eat a lot of meat, much of which they would hunt down themselves on their own land. Deer, wild boar, rabbits, turkey and other wild creatures would all be on the table.
Nobility and Royalty would be fond of fish as well. Lamprey eels was a delicacy only preserved for special occasions.
They could afford salt which was important for preserving meat and fish. This would allow the castle/manor/palace to be stocked in times of winter or famine.
They could also afford pepper and other spices, all of which could cost a fortune, to flavour their food.
During a feast, they would eat off of platters made of precious metals but only if you were seated at the high table. Other less important guests would eat off a trencher, a piece of hollowed out stale bread.
Sugar would be the height of dessert. The sugar would be shaped into fantastical formations to impress the noble guests. Tudor chefs would create edible sugar plates for Henry VIII to eat off of.
Swans and peacocks would be served in their plumage. Swans would be more royal diners as in England the monarch owns all the swans. In Ireland, it is illegal to kill a swan mainly because they could be children trapped in swan-bodies. Long story.
Feasts
Tumblr media
At certain events, the noble/monarch might throw a party. Most parties would begin with a dinner.
The high table would seat the family throwing the party and the honoured guests. All the food would come to them first to be distributed to their favourites. They would drink the best wine and have the finest bread.
The rest of the hall would be seated together at trestle tables, eating off trenchers. They would be sent food by the thrower of the feast on account of their personal importance or social standing. The closer you were to the salt cellar, placed at the head of the table the more important you were. The further away you were, the lower your status.
Servants called cupbearers would serve wine and drink and move about the hall to carry jugs of wine to water the guests.
Dogs would often be found in the hall, to be fed scraps by the diners.
Drink
Tumblr media
No world or party is complete without the booze. Since much of the water in Mediaeval times was putrid or dirty, the classes would avoid it.
Beer: was both a favourite of peasants and the nobility. It would be brewed in castles or in taverns and inns, each site having a different recipe and taste. It would be stored in barrels. Beer was widely available across the world and could be brewed at home. So therefore it was inexpensive.
The two main types of beer would be:
Ale: Ale in the middle ages referred to beer brewed without hops (a kind of flowering plant that gives beer its bitter taste). It is sweeter and would typically have a fruity aftertaste.
Stout: is a darker beer sometimes brewed from roasted malt, coming in a sweet version and dry version, the most famous stout being Guinness.
Wine: Wine would be made on site of vineyards and stored in cellars of large houses or castles. They would be expensive as they would have to be imported from regions capable of growing vines.
Port: Port wine or fortified wine would be made with distilled grape spirits. It is a sweet red wine, and also would be expensive to import from the counties able to grow the correct vines.
Whiskey: is a spirit made from distilled fermented grain mash in a device called a still (which would always be made of copper). The age of whiskey is determined by the length of time it has been sitting in a cask from the time it is made to the time its put in bottles. Whiskey was a favourite drink in colder climates and could be made any where in the world.
Rum: Rum is made by fermenting and distilling sugarcane molasses/juice. It is aged in oak barrels and would have to be imported as it could only be made in lands able to grow sugarcane.
Poitín: (pronounced as pot-cheen) is made from cereals, grain, whey, sugar beet, molasses and potatoes. It is a Dangerous Drink (honestly i still don't know how I ended up in that field with a traffic cone and a Shetland pony) and technically illegal. Country folk in Ireland used to brew it in secrets in stills hidden on their land.

what other people want added to Minecraft: g u n s
what I want added to Minecraft
•Birds
-For multiple biomes, but mainly for the forests.
-Songbirds would add SO MUCH life to the otherwise quiet areas of the game
-Ravens and crows would be awesome and could use some of the parrot mimicking AI
-Cardinals in the snow biomes would bring a GORGEOUS pop of colour into the white atmosphere
-Seriously we need something to populate the sky, parrots do NOT fly like they should
-nests in trees, can find eggs in them
-doesn't really add a use but fun new feather types would be cool
•Owls
-technically still a bird but would go really well in covered rooftop forests and snow biomes
-we're already getting larger avians added in the form of vultures so why not more large birds?
•Mice and / or rats
-absolute precious babies
-sadly would go well with owls :(
-with cave update coming we need adorable rodents scurrying around
-lil bastards could make mouseholes inside of blocks
-will they be tameable? idk.
-adds the necessity for cheese
•Deer
-MOJANG this is a MUST, this is a NEED
-You literally have pigs, chickens, cows, and sheep spawning in forests what the fuck
-Deer with spotty baby fawns??? Yes
-Young bucks with different stages of antler growth? Yes
-Fawns frolicking in flower forests bc they feel safe
-Stripped wood appearing on trees where bucks scrape velvet off their antlers
-Being able to collect sets of antlers when they fall off periodically (would NOT be attainable by killing the deer, you have to wait for them to shed)
•Elk and Moose
-Same vein as deer
-Bigger, much bigger, neutral instead of passive, less shy
-Snowy biomes
-Better additions than fucking llamas tyvm
-Sidenote but savannahs could also really use some endangered deer-like species to help raise awareness for their status
•Squirrels
-Mojang plz
-Adds nuts to Minecraft ;)
-Black, grey, red, and mixed colour squirrels and breeding
-Brings life to forests like songbirds and deer
•Bears
-Mojang bby you literally already have a neutral bear in Minecraft why have you not reskinned it for grizzly/brown/black bears?
-Bear caves
-Hibernating mobs
-Brings more use to the beehives and bees, bears could be attracted to any area that has more than one bee hive with honey
•WOLVES AND DOGS
-They NEED the ocelots and cats update
-More wolf types (red, timber, snow, black, etc)
-Actual wolf packs (the AI would be difficult to program but the doges are worth it)
-Please let the howl at the moon, if foxes get to say ringdingding all night long wolves deserve to be allowed to howl
-More dog breeds (I know that there's no reason for domesticated dog breeds in Minecraft but ACTUALLY THERE IS)
-Hunting dogs like springers that can jump and run faster
-Foxhounds :D
-Most Important Goodest Boy: Herding dogs like collies and sheepdogs
-Herding dogs could be found in plains where cows and sheep spawn and create herds
-LET DOGS LAY DOWN FOR FUCKS SAKE
•Herding
-Instead of having to pen up and enclose your livestock you could form herds of cows and sheep
-Your Goodest Boi herding dog would protect them and move around with them when they graze
-Just soft peaceful minecraft tingz
•Salt licks
-Something SO SMALL but would make SO MUCH HAPPINESS
-Drawing new cows into your herd by putting up a salt lick
-I'm soft
-I guess salt would be a new ore???
•Bird feeders
-idk I think it would be cool
-excess seeds used for SOMETHING
•Raccoons
-The coolness of wolves, the chaos of foxes, the cunning of cats
-thumbs
-be gay do crimes
-can open chests (trigger trap chests to catch them?)
-Fantastic little shits
-Not tameable but will trust players like foxes do
•Snakes
-I know it's a lot to ask and it would be hard to make them look good
-But??? Imagine a tiny lil garter snake in your garden
-unlikely but would be so fantastic
•Rope
-climeable
-please Mojang we need this so badly
-imagine the ships? The bridges? The bell towers and everything?
-super easy to add, just reskin vines and add a string crafting recipie
•Butterflies and Moths
-Bflies could be a unique mob to flower forests and friends with bees
-if moobloom is added they would all be BEST BUDS
-get it "buds" ahahaha
-help with flower polination but just gives a TON of life to flower forests
-We literally have lanterns in minecraft why do we NOT have moths? Such a cool aesthetic addition.
-helps fill both the daytime and nighttime sky
•Hummingbirds
-fourth member of BEST BUDS
-just soft baby
-i love birbs okay
-the only avian who does not work for the bourgeoisie
•Fireflies
-10 million of them please
-they give great hugs
-adds so much atmosphere to the night world
•Cheese
-We have milk
-We have, presumably, goat milk
-Quit being cowards and add butter and cheese
-Butter churn job block for villagers
-V funny bc they have no arms to churn with?? Oh well
•Seashells
-Something decorative and beautiful that could 1) liven up beaches and 2) have snails and crabs inside!
-Mojang plz do not add sand dollars to the game people already don't know how to tell if they're still alive before trying to take them home
•Whales
-WHALES.
-Imagine something as massive as the ender dragon but peaceful. Allows you to stand on them (idk how but make it happen Jeb)
-WHALE SONGS.
-Being so deep and far out into the ocean, and when the moon is high in the sky and you're sitting in your boat, you just hear the beautiful melancholy sounds of the whales in the distance
•Jellyfish
-Idk if y'all know this but the glow squid is a bad idea
-Dream buddy you fucked up, please use your influence to get in contact with Mojang and have them redo the vote. People would have so much regained respect for you if you tried to fix your mistake.
-Also why does a speedrunner get to tell millions of people what mob would bring more life to Minecraft? He's only playing the game for 5 minutes smh
-aNYWAYS
-Jellyfish could literally do everything the glow squid is going to and look better for it AND possibly be neutral instead of peaceful
•Orcas
-Not much to say but it would liven up the frozen water biomes a bit
•Penguins
-You already know why
-Imagine giving a new home to all the Club Penguin players? Legendary.
-Gender doesn't exist in Minecraft but we all know penguins would be hella gay
•Lobsters
-I think they would be cute
-You would NOT BE ABLE TO BOIL THEM ALIVE THANK YOU VERY MUCH
•Mermaids
-Never going to happen since passive mobs are generally real life animals but it would be so cool
•Otters
-they can hold hands
-brings life to the rivers
-super cute
•Frogs and possibly toads
-Swamp gods
-Absolute mad lads
-maybe grow from tadpoles
-wouldn't do much but needed
•Fairy Forests
-NOT Twilight Forests. Not a new dimension.
-Just gentle hidden groves in forests
-ADD FAIRY RING GENERATION TO MINECRAFT.
•Big cats
-Tigers, lions, bobcats, panthers
-Literally anything that could finally add a strong predator possibility to savannahs and jungles
•Zebras and Giraffes
-Shy and skittish
-cannot ride (their skeletal structure is NOT MADE FOR CARRYING HUMANS)
-Super cute tho, brings much needed life to savannahs
•Camels
-The better llama
-Can honestly just be a reskin
-brings much needed life to the desert
-spits and wears carpet and forms caravans like llamas
•Lemurs
-Easier to add to "jungles" than monkeys
-it would be really cool if we could just get a Rainforest biome
-King Julian stans awaken
•Red pandas
-we need them
-cuter than normal pandas and you can @ me
-better idea than sloths or koalas
•More Eldritch Horror Hostile Mobs
-Fun fact time
-The enchanting table language already has Lovecraftian references
-"phnglui mglwnafh cthulhu rlyeh wgahnagl fhtagn" is literally a quote from the enchanting table
-translates to "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming."
-Bet you didn't know that fun fact
-aNYWAYS add the Kraken to Minecraft instead of the shitty guardians. Thanks.
-imagine how cool it would be to see lights slowly extinguish as something terrifying and dangerous slowly moves in for the kill
-torches get extinguished and can get relit
-if not relit fast enough Something will be waiting
•Ice statues
-We have giant fossils and ship wrecks and cool stuff like that but please imagine finding a GIANT humanoid ice sculpture in an ice spikes biome
-maybe bones inside to show you that... That wasn't carved or naturally generated.
•Skeletons
-Not a mob but a decoration block
-Found in temples, mineshafts, and caves
-implied to be the remains of miners and explorers
-rare
-also implies that every skeleton you kill has some backstory since they look the same
•Constellations
-Not real world star maps but completely unique to Minecraft
-chance for LOTS of fun references
-The stars are your only companions in an apocalyptic world where you are the last of your kind
-Space is gay minecraft is gay thus minecraft space is gay
•Corn
-we have butter in this list
-we have salt in this list
-popcorn. That is all.
And finally
•Leeks
-mostly a joke but would be a cool crop
-100% a reference to Hatsune Miku the creator of Minecraft
DISCLAIMER: I recognize that mobs are added to Minecraft to serve a purpose within the game and that many of these mobs would be better in mods and such, but I also feel like many of these suggestions would really bring so much more life to parts of the game that really need it. Even if they don't serve a huge purpose, they would still be really amazing additions imo.
I would love to see the ideas and suggestions that other people have for what they want added to Minecraft, please TAG ME if you make a post like this, I wanna hear and read it!

Ciao :D
It's dinner time!! Bombur is in a good mood and generous tonight, he wants to cook every dwarf's favorite dish. Tell us what favorite dish each dwarf in the company asks Bombur for dinner (make a list)!
Oooh thanks for the ask and good question! I’ll try my best but my food knowledge is very limited! xD
Ok so starting off with Bombur I feel like he would love something carb-heavy like a large plate of spaghetti bolognese with grated Parmesan, and a side of garlic bread. Like LOTS of garlic bread. He basically gets like more garlic bread than spaghetti.
I think Balin is the one who’s having the classic Middle Earth meal: something like a hot game stew and a loaf of bread with cheese and grapes. And a big mug of ale of course!
Thorin is extra as fuck so he would want something fancy and refined like caviar brioche or something and a glass of red wine.
If anybody in the Company would be vegetarian I think it would be Dori so for him maybe like stir fry and rice with a side salad. I feel like he would also be a huge fan of sushi.
To contrast that Dwalin is having prime ribs and steak fries, and don’t skimp on the bbq sauce.
Similarly Gloin would have a whole plate of chicken drumsticks and mashed potatoes.
For some reason Bofur strikes me as a Tex-mex kinda guy. Tacos, enchiladas, nachos and guac, the works. With a light beer to wash it down with.
Kili wants breakfast for dinner. Scrambled eggs with mushrooms, peppers, onions, and ground beef mixed in. Crispy bacon or sausage. Several scones with butter and jam. Maybe some pancakes. And he would get coffee but only because he wants to feel like an adult.
I feel like Fili would choose a comfort food. Like mac’n cheese. And by that I mean homemade mac ‘n cheese with flour and milk and stuff, not that orange goo.
Nori is having hella seafood. Like a whole bowl of shrimp, perfectly seasoned salmon, scallops and mussels , and fried calamari.
Ori is eating chicken nuggets. No I will not elaborate.
Oin would have potato soup with a bread bowl and a baguette for dipping in, with some kettle chips on the side.
And finally, Bifur is having a venison steak (he shot the deer himself!)

Oh my god we are at the home stretch and I am still amazed I managed to do all eight days. This is a two-parter, so the second chapter will be up tomorrow.
Day 7: First Morning @taiqrowweek

Summary: When a desperate escape from fans leaves Qrow seeking shelter in a nearby restaurant, he expects little of the rundown, failing business that offers him a table. One bite is all it takes to change his mind. [Actor and Chef AU]

Early Saturday afternoon found downtown L.A. bustling with traffic on the sidewalks and the road. Qrow found himself in the heart of Pershing Square, lying on the grass and enjoying the midday sun beaming down on him, wondering why he didn’t do this more often.
“Oh my god! Qrow Branwen?!”
His eyes shot open, seeing a small gaggle of women hurrying his way as every head within earshot turned to look right at him.
Oh right.
That was why.
He shot to his feet, yelling over his shoulder as he sprinted away, “Sorry! No autographs today!”
He thanked whatever gods might be out there that his last role forced him to stay in excellent shape, because he was easily able to outdistance his pursuers. Unfortunately, as he skirted around the foot traffic, their yells only seemed to be attracting more attention his way. He ever spotted one desperate teenager pulling a phone from her purse.
He was about to be all over Instagram, wasn’t he?
Knowing this called for every actor’s Superman disguise, Qrow pulled his sunglasses from his pocket, shoving them onto his face as he took the first alleyway he could find. Coming out on the other side, he slowed his pace to a fast walk, lowering his head to avoid further detection and slipped into the doorway of one of the businesses a few doors down before the other crowd could catch up.
He sighed, grateful for the dark atmosphere inside the building as he pulled out his phone. Alright, time to call his driver and get out of dodge.
“Table for one?” The question had him jerking around, seeing a young woman in a cowboy getup smiling his way from a little podium. Her golden hair was particularly eye catching, long and untamed in a way that reminded him of his twin sister’s. Her name tag, which was in the shape of a star, read ‘Yang’.
He took in the environment around her, noticing the array of booths and tables that made up the majority of the room, and realized he’d ducked right into a restaurant. “Uh, no sorry I uh-” He started to say, only to trail off as he actually considered it. Why the hell not? It wasn’t like he’d eaten, and it would take his driver about the same time to get there when having to slog through the weekend traffic. “I mean, yeah, just me. Can I get a booth as isolated as possible?”
“You got it!” Yang agreed, picking up one of the menus and leading him to a booth in the back. He couldn’t help but notice she even had spurs on her boots that clanked when she walked. The walls were decorated with a similar Texan flair, bull horns and deer antlers interspaced with paintings of farm homes and woodland creatures and metal lone stars. How quaint.
Despite the aesthetics though, it was obvious from the minute he sat down and the bench creaked loudly, that upkeep wasn’t a priority. Or, he reassessed as he took note of the lack of patrons despite it being the lunch hour, it probably just wasn’t in the budget. That probably wasn’t a promising sign on the quality for his upcoming meal.
“Ruby will be with you soon.” Yang said, setting the menu before him. The cover had the name ‘The Dragon’s Den’ proudly printed across it. Wait, that wasn’t southern. Did he somehow run all the way to Chinatown instead?
“Uh, thanks.” He flipped the menu, but with the lighting so low, he couldn’t read the finer script. He pulled off his sunglasses, setting them on the table before looking through his options. Despite the slightly confused name, everything within seemed pretty par for the course; roast beef, fried chicken, catfish, and a large array of barbequed meats that any Tramp off the street would gladly steal for his Lady.
“Howdy there, can I get you started w- Oh my god!”
Ah, shit.
He looked up, seeing yet another starstruck gaze aimed at him by a petite girl in a similar get up to the hostess but was a few years younger – was she even old enough to work here?
He held up his hand in a desperate attempt to ward off any screaming. “Kid, I swear to give you the best tip of your life if you keep quiet.”
His waitress pressed her notepad against her mouth, a muffled squeak escaping around it. After a moment, she took a breath, then lowered the notepad slightly to reveal a sly smile. “I’ll make sure Yang seats any customers far away from you if you promise me an autograph and a picture too.”
He snorted. What a devious little brat! He could appreciate that. “Deal.”
“Hehe, yes!” She gave a little hop before quickly composing herself, placing her pen to the page. “Alright stranger that I’ve never met and do not know the name of, what would you like to drink?”
“Don’t oversell it kid. And water’s fine.”
“Coming right up!” She scurried away. He watched her detour towards the front, dragging the blond woman to the back where they disappeared behind a set of swinging double doors.
He counted down from five in his head.
“EEEEEEEEEEEE!” Came two screams from the kitchen.
Right on cue.
“OUT! BOTH OF YOU, OUT!!” Was the next shout he heard, the tone definitely masculine.
Yang came back out first, her gaze lingering his way before she hurried away, giggling all the while. Ruby was next, setting a glass of water on his table along with a straw.
“Your drink, mon-sir.”
He laughed. “Did you mean monsieur?”
“Yeah, that one!” She giggled good-naturedly. Despite the fact she was an obvious fangirl, he found himself taking a liking to her.
“Heard a bit of yelling back there.” He gestured towards the doorway.
“Yeah, dad just thinks we’re being dumb. He doesn’t believe you’re out here.”
Dad? Well, that might explain why it seemed this rustic establishment was getting away with breaking child labor laws. “Eh, it’s probably better that way anyways.” Kids were cute; but adults fawning over him was always a little weird, especially if they were around his age.
“He wouldn’t know how to appreciate the moment anyways.”  Ruby clacked her heels together, spurs chiming when she did. “So were you ready to order or did you want a few minutes?”
He glanced down towards the menu. He wasn’t really used to food like this. Growing up, his dad would favor getting the rice cooker going rather than tend to the BBQ gathering dust outside. As for now, his career tended to call for strict dietery needs depending on what shape he needed to be in for each role – none of which ever called for anything steeped so heavily in grease and fat. “Any suggestions?”
“Ooo,” She tapped her chin with her pen thoughtfully. “Well dad just took out the kolaches a half hour ago, so those are extra good right now.”
The question was out of his mouth before he could think to fake it, “What’s a kolach?”
“Oh, it’s a Texas thing. Basically, it’s a pasty with filling. Today’s strawberry, which is my favorite.”
“Trying to sell me dessert before the main course?”
“Well yeah! That’s like the highlight of being an adult, right? When I move out, that’s how I’m gonna do it.” Ruby said proudly. “But if you want to be all traditional about it, then by far dad’s best dish is the country-fried steak.”
He knew what that dish was at least. Steak fried in batter and slathered in gravy. It sounded like a heart attack on a plate. He closed the menu decisively, handing it to her. “I’ll take your word for it.”
“Great!” She quickly wrote it down.
As the girl hurried over to go place his order, Qrow took the opportunity to look up the address and text it to An. ‘Pick me up in forty-five?’
‘Certainly sir.’ She replied.
He had just switched back to his browser, when Ruby came back, setting a small plate in front of him. The Kolach was about the size of a cookie, with a breading cooked to a nice golden brown and the bright red strawberry filling dusted over with powdered sugar.
“Here you go! The best dessert you’ll ever have.” She proclaimed.
It certainly looked good, but it wouldn’t have anything on his mother’s Ichigo Daifuku. “Maybe second greatest kiddo.”
Ruby looked about ready to defend her dessert’s honor when a call of ‘waiter’ had her drawing back. “Um, gotta go. Enjoy!”
Picking up the pastry, Qrow turned his attention back to his phone. He eyed the 2.9 rating the restaurant had on Yelp, his stomach turning with trepidation as he took his first bite. The outer crust had a nice crunch but the inner dough was fluffy and light, with a hint of butter. The sweetness also hit with less punch than he was expecting, the strawberry standing mostly on its own with only the sugar on top adding to it. Just the way he liked it.
He was right, it didn’t out beat the Daifuku… but it was pretty close.
As he polished it off, he pulled up the reviews, scanning through them.
‘Great food but the decor is just awful. Pretty sure the place hasn’t had an upgrade since the 70s.’
‘Nice staff but everyone looks like they should be operating out of a western drama.’
‘Terrible! The kid waiting on me didn’t even look fifteen. She was super clumsy too. Dropped a whole cup of BBQ right on my sweater. When I demanded to speak to the owner about it, the hostess gave me attitude about how he was too busy and called ME a blowhard! What a circus show! Never coming back!’
‘The food’s amazing, but the wait times are ridiculous. Forty-five minutes for a rack of ribs? Is there only one cook back there?’
And on they went. Complaints about the location, the confusing name, more on wait time and the staff. But, beyond a few issues on the food arriving too cold, there was nothing but stellar compliments for the taste. He lent back in his seat, hearing it give another dying groan. He watched Yang sit another table of five while Ruby bustled about to get their drinks. Eyed his crumb-dusted plate, realizing the treat was probably offered to him because someone hungry was more likely to notice the wait for the main course. What a sad state. Apparently great food but poor management and lack of funds to fix anything. The place probably wasn’t going to last another year.
Ruby was all smiles when she came back to him, clearing his dish. “So, did you like it?”
“It was excellent, just like you promised.” Qrow told her honestly. For a split second, he almost let that be the end of it all. To just have his meal and leave, forgetting all about the reviews that foreshadowed the Dragon Den’s closure and the innocent kid whose family would be facing thousands of dollars in debt.
Instead he found himself strangely invested. Perhaps it was just human curiosity or pure boredom, but whatever it was, something made him lean forward, cross his arms over the table and ask, “So Ruby, you said your dad’s the one cooking, but who runs the place?”
“He does.”
He arched a brow. “He’s the owner and the chef? And he makes his kids work here?”
She shifted on her feet. “Uh well, I only help out on weekends and maybe a weekday here or there when dad really needs me. Yang’s got it real bad tho. She has to rush from her classes at Cal State to here five times a week.”
As the suspicion niggled at the back of his mind, he almost asked, but figured the deliberate omission about the whereabouts of their mother was all the answer he needed.
“There’s no other waiters?” He asked instead.
“No, we’ve got a few part timers, just not enough for a full day. Dad keeps saying when business picks back up he’ll hire a few more and a new chef too but,” Ruby averted her gaze. “That was a year ago.”
“What happened?” He pressed.
She shook her head. “We kept losing staff and now I just think he’s too busy. He sometimes doesn’t even come home. He’ll just sleep at one of the tables and then be up for the next day.”
“He’s here every day? From open to close?”
“Yeah.”
He whistled low between his teeth, placing his palm under his chin. He’d had some rough shoots over the years, but at least he had the solace of taking breaks. “Wow. That’s awful. And I bet a teenager like you hates having to work when you’d rather be at home playing video games.”
“Oh, no. I don’t mind.” Ruby refuted, before amending shortly after, “Uh well, most times, at least. Jerky customers kind of ruin my day. But otherwise, it’s okay.”
He had a feeling it was anything but. “You sure ‘bout that?”
“Yeah. I mean, when we first moved here, this place was dad’s dream.” She waved vaguely in the air as if to encompass the little establishment. “He always loved making people happy by cooking for them. Even when I was a kid he’d tell me that the gift of a good meal is the smile on someone’s face when they eat it.” She faced him, resolute and steady. “I know it’s important to him, so if I can help him keep this place by working here every now and again, then that’s just what I’ll do.”
He studied her carefully, but nothing he could see seemed imply she was lying in any way. It was a value he could certainly respect, as he and his sister had grown up being told the importance of caring for and respecting their elders. But living in America taught him that not all families operated this way. It was surprising, but uplifting, to see it here. “That’s rather admirable of you.”
Before they could say more, a hiss of ‘Ruby!’ drew her up short, and then Yang was sidling over, an impressive stack of plates balanced precariously along her left arm. “Table 3 needs their check before they bounce on us.”
“Oh right.” She paused, just long enough to place the pastry dish on top of her sister’s already full load with an overly sweet smile.
Once his waitress had left, Qrow said, “Guess I’m distracting her.”
“I shouldn’t be surprised. You can distract half the nation.” Yang replied. “Must be awful, never having enough privacy.”
He shrugged it off, as if he hadn’t sprinted several blocks twenty minutes ago. “Comes with the business.”
“Well, I’d hate it. I get enough attention as it is.” She shifted some of the weight on her arm.
“Ah, what? You’re the total heartthrob in school or something?” He could see that. She had other assets that matched Raven’s – and he remembered how often that had the boys trailing after her like stray dogs desperate for affection.
“Or something.” She echoed vaguely. “I’m going to go check on your meal.”
It was only as she turned away, he noticed her right hand as it caught the faint light from above. The shine to the skin too bright to be natural and its immobility too revealing that the limb was anything but real.
Or something indeed.
God, maybe he should pitch a show because this was starting to feel like a classic TV sitcom. A single dad, running a failing restaurant and just struggling to get by to provide for his two kids, one of whom was disabled and the other was sacrificing the last of her childhood. Ruby, with her boundless optimism, would be the star of course. Yang would be the sassy, fiery-tempered co-host. Their dad would be a bumbling fool with a heart of gold. It would either top the charts or fail after the first season.
Not having much else to do as he waited, he texted the inane thought off to his agent.
Your writing leaves a lot to be desired. Stick to acting Qrow. Willow ordered.
He chuckled silently, replying: Is this why you gave your daughters such icy names? Because they were born from someone so cold?
Watch your tongue Branwen or I’ll tell Tommy Wiseau you want to co-star with him.
Ouch, I’ve got freezerburn.
I’m again questioning why I work with you.
You love me. He sent an obnoxious amount of kiss emojis along with it just to really annoy her.
She sent back swords. Ah, she was the best.
He decided to leave her alone, switching over to one of his racing game apps and immersing himself in the competition. Every now and again, he’d catch sight of the girls in the corner of his eye. Ruby taking orders and checking on customers. Yang fetching refills or cleaning up. His red Alpine racer was just passing the finish line of the second race when Ruby was coming back.
“Here you go, the best meal in the house.” She set down the dish before him. It was an excellent presentation, like it came right out of a cooking magazine. The fry-battered steak was a light, golden brown, slathered with a brownish-white, peppered gravy. A generous helping of fluffy, buttery mashed potatoes and bright yellow corn, both flecked with more pepper, completed the meal. All of it was framed by the plate with its dark blue flower trim that made the colors pop and really sold the southern charm.
“Thanks kiddo.” He said, feeling his stomach grumble.
“Enjoy!” She hesitated, adding in a small rush, “Just um, call me if you need me!”
He unrolled his utensils as she hurried away, shaking his head. She was probably hoping he’d call her every five minutes, just so she’d have more of an excuse to talk to him. Poor kid probably thought she was missing the opportunity of a lifetime. He didn’t let it bother him. After all, everyone who’s ever sat down with an interview with him knew he was a terrible conversationalist.
He cut down into the steak, finding it came apart easily and was perfectly cooked through. He dripped the bottom in the gravy, twisted it around on his fork, said a silent prayer to his arteries, and took the first bite.
Oh.
Oh.
Holy Mother of Mary.
The fried breading crunched nicely but the steak practically melted into his mouth, combining with the gravy and a series of spices he couldn’t even begin to name but knew it was doing something wonderful to his taste buds.
He hummed happily. It was good. It was beyond good. As he cut another piece and took another bite, finding it as delectable as the last, he still couldn’t believe it. There was just no way anything could be this delicious.
He was over three-quarters of the way through the steak by the time Ruby came to check on him.
“Sooo,” She glanced at his plate then to him, smirking, “You like it, don’t you?”
“Don’t look so smug.” Qrow replied halfheartedly, stuffing another forkful in his mouth and hearing her fading giggle.
He didn’t get it though; with food like this, the place should be packed. If people could wait in line to get his autograph for six hours, then why couldn’t they wait a measly half hour for an incredible meal?
“Hey kid.” He said when Ruby came back around again, this time to collect his empty plate.
“Yeah?”
“We still got to take your picture. Any chance I can give my compliments to the chef while we’re at it?”
“If Yang can be in it too, you got yourself a deal.”
He chuckled. Should have expected that. “You got it.”
“Eeeee!” She squealed, hopping in excitement. “Okay, okay, let’s go now!”
He obliged, finding it hard to move at first. Wow, he was stuffed. He managed to follow Ruby to the back, seeing her wave her sister over before he was led through the double doors.
Walking into the kitchen was like walking backstage on a set – wherein the stage was just a collection of pieces meant to play their positions and what was behind the curtain was where the magic truly happened to bring it all together. But instead of sound design and lights, it was sizzling grills and knives chopping down. And instead of half a dozen people rushing about, there was only one. He was mincing up an onion with a swift finesse only the best of chefs had while singing along with a cassette player that was peddling out country tunes.
“It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you nooow.”
Singing badly, Qrow thought, cringing inwardly.
“Dad, no!” Ruby cried. Not even looking their way, the man just continued on, more loudly and off-key then before.
“Oh god, please smite me.” Yang groaned as she walked in, hiding her face in her hand.
Her sister raced across the room, pulling at his sleeve, hissing insistently. “Dad, we have company.”
“Meaning I have an audience that actually appreciates my performance?” His laughter was hearty as he peered over her head. The cutting stopped immediately. “U-Uhh…” Was all he managed to splutter before looking down at his daughter. “Uh?!”
“Told you he was here.” She said in a know-it-all sort of tone.
Used to this, Qrow just cleared his throat, introducing himself even if it felt a bit arbitrary. “Qrow Branwen. A pleasure to meet you.”
The man didn’t reply straight away, still taken aback by his very presence – or perhaps, from the faint lines of panic crinkling his brow, weighing over the fact he’d just served a celebrity without actually knowing it. Whatever it was, he seemed to catch his bearings, setting down his knife and crossing the kitchen. As he introduced himself in turn, he held out his hand, “Believe me, pleasure’s all mine. Name’s Taiyang Xiao Long.”
Xiao Long? Strange, he didn’t appear to have any Chinese in him, which likely meant he was married into the surname. At least now he really understood the restaurant’s title. Qrow shook his hand, surprised by the strong grip. He could feel the calluses built onto his hands from years of using cooking utensils.
“I apologize,” Taiyang said as he pulled back. “Had I taken my daughter’s word for it, I would have offered you a meal more extravagant. Or at the very least, some good wine.”
He had to keep himself from chuckling at the way Ruby stuck out her tongue at her dad’s back. “That’s alright. If I’m being honest, that was one of the finest meals I’ve had in quite some time.”
The chef’s cheeks turned a little rosy but his smile was just like his daughter’s, toothy and bright. “That’s mighty kind of you to say.” Heh, cute. He even talked like the aesthetic.
Before they could converse more, the ringing of a timer drew Taiyang’s attention. “Ah, pardon me.” He hurried to the stove, pausing only long enough to wash his hands.
“Sooooo,” Ruby stretched out the word as she slid back over, pulling out her phone. “Picture?”
“Wait, hold on!” Yang ripped off her hat, finger-combing through her golden locks. “Does my hair look okay?”
Her sister gave her a thumb’s up. “Like a rat’s nest. So yes- Ack!” She got smacked in the face with the hat.
“Girls, don’t be bothering him like that.” Their father chastised, stirring something in a large pot.
“We’re not!” Yang claimed.
He shook his head, but it was hard to tell if it was at her or at the soup he was tasting. “Really Mr. Branwen, you don’t have to.”
Ruby looked scandalized. “What?!”
“He owes us. I kept all the other customers away from him.” His eldest explained.
His head whipped around. “That’s worse! A man shouldn’t have to pay for his privacy!” As he pulled down some spices, he continued, “What you two ought to be doing is just appreciating the moment.”
“Oh, that’s a wonderful idea dad. Now if only I had something to capture it with and keep it forever. Oh wait!” Ruby waved around her phone violently. “I DO!”
Unable to hold it in anymore, Qrow started to laugh. He was right; they would make a good sitcom. “It’s been a long time since I’ve met such interesting people.” He addressed the chef, “It’s alright, really. I did promise them.”
Taiyang opened his mouth to protest further, but another timer went off – how many did he have? – so he just said, “To each his own I suppose.” Before he turned to go check something in the oven.
Taking the opportunity for what it was, he held up his arms. “Alright, bring it in ladies.”
Ruby tossed her own hat next to Yang’s, giggling as his arm came around her shoulders. Yang was a little more uncomfortable, so he let his hand rest on her shoulder, above where he assumed her arm ended, and felt her relax almost instantly.
“Okay, 3, 2, 1!” They all smiled widely as the camera shutter clicked. They pulled away and Ruby looked it over to make sure it was good, before squealing happily. “Oh gosh it’s perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
“You’re – oof! – welcome.” He huffed out when she nearly tackled him with a hug. He pat her back. “Now, I believe I promised an autograph too?”
She grinned hugely. “Right, yes!” She grabbed Yang, “Come on we got to find something for him to sign!” The two hurried to a small office, and he caught Ruby saying, “He could even sign your arm!”
“You think?” Yang’s voice faded to the background, overtaken by a loud sizzling.
As Qrow came as close as he dared, Taiyang said, “Thank you for this. You really made their year.” He was stirring the onion he had minced earlier around a nice heap of melting butter in a hot pan.
“Like I said, it’s fine.” He echoed.
“Still, it’s appreciated.” The burner was flipped off and the pan taken from the heat, but the onions continued to sauté.  “‘Fraid I can’t offer you much in compensation though, beyond giving you your meal free.”
He tilted his head. “Can you afford that?”
“Really, I insist. As they say, happiness is priceless.” Was the curt reply.
Only the rich say that. He scoffed at the obvious farce – not that Taiyang noticed as he turned away to attend to something else. Subtlety by words had never been his strong suit, and it wouldn’t be in the next five minutes either. So, he cut to the chase, “Listen bud, I’m not going to sit here and pretend I know everything, but it’s pretty obvious from the state of this place to the lack of non-relative employees, that you’re not exactly in good standing.”
“An astute observation, but I don’t believe you needed to bring up all that just to make a case to pay for your meal.” He was back to chopping – this time, potatoes. Stubborn as a mule was a term invented for this guy, wasn’t it?
“It wasn’t.” Qrow assured. “It was a case to buy your restaurant.”
The knife chopped down so hard, it went right into the wood. Taiyang turned around to stare at him. A clatter to their left caught Qrow’s attention. The girls were both standing just outside of the office, the things they’d brought for him to sign now strewn across the ground.
No one spoke.
A beeping filled the air, and still no one spoke.
“Uh. Timer?” He said, awkwardly.
Taiyang seemed to blink out of whatever daze he was in. He came forward, almost aggressively enough that Qrow tried not to shrink back, but the other man only reached over his shoulder to turn off the timer, side-eyeing him as he walked away.
“Really?” Ruby’s small but hopeful voice shook the tense air.
Yang’s was more suspicious. “You do know you’re buying a failing business, right?”
He offered the duo a smile. “Won’t be failing when I’m done with it. This place just needs a bit of sprucing up. More staff. Maybe a new location-”
Slam! Went a cooking sheet on the countertop.
“No.” Taiyang said rigidly.
Unperturbed, Qrow carried on. “Alright, no new location. Kind of a bad move but I can work with that. But the name has got to-”
“Stop.” He commanded. “Do not treat me like a fool. I may not have grown up here, but I learned rather quickly that folks around here will do a lot for 15 minutes of fame. I will not allow you to do the same to my family.”
“What, dad-!” Yang started
“Can’t you just-!” Ruby spoke over her.
“Quiet, both of you!” He bellowed, before turning his back to them, grabbing some tongs to turn the racks of ribs around a bit more aggressively then needed. “The answer is no, and that’s final. Now, I will thank you kindly to take your empty offer and walk it out the door.”
When the girls started to raise protest again, Qrow was the one to silence them this time, raising a finger to his lips, before he took a few steps closer to the chef. “Believe me when I say the offer is not empty. Your daughter over there tells me how much this place meant to you when you first got it, but now you’re letting it rot under your feet. Is that really how you want it to go out?” The other man’s jaw clenched and he refused to look at him. He took that as a good sign, reaching out to place a tentative hand on his shoulder. “Let me help you and your family.”
For his efforts, a set of tongs were shoved so close to his face, they almost touched his nose.
Behind the makeshift weapon, Taiyang’s eyes bored into his own. He spoke steady and sharp, “Mr. Branwen, I will say this once and only once. I have put everything I got, my entire heart and soul, into this restaurant. It is the only thing I have for my girls and I am NOT about to gamble it away on some publicity stunt to stroke a rich man’s ego. So, you ask me to believe you? Then come back with a lawyer and a contract full of terms we both agree on, as I will settle for nothing less. Am I understood?”
The storm brewing in those blue eyes didn’t intimidate him, because this close, he could see the dark circles etching a deep exhaustion around them. The mark of a person desperate and at the end of their rope. Despite only knowing him for a few minutes, Qrow could tell that he was a good man, as well as aggravatingly hardheaded.
“Got it.” He told him, reaching into his pocket to fetch his shades. “I’ll see you in a few days then.”
As he pulled them on and turned away, he thought perhaps he heard Tai give some biting remark about how tomorrow, perhaps he’d be offered the moon. But he didn’t let it faze him. Instead, he crossed over to where the girls still stood, frozen – but unlike their father, they did nothing to hide the tentative hope on their faces.
Qrow lent down, fetching the sharpie and two sheets of paper, using a nearby counter to pen out the autographs. He even took the time to add his signature calligraphy, making the tail of the Q look like a feather. He offered each one in turn, “Ruby, Yang. Thank you for the pleasant experience.”
Yang was slow to take hers, as if she might say something. In the end she only thanked him.
Contrastingly, Ruby’s vibrancy was back, an almost nervous energy pitching her tone as she quickly offered to walk him to the door. It didn’t take him long to figure out why, as she hid her face in her treasured autograph and groaned. “I’m sorry about my dad. He’s just so, so, embarrassing!”
“He’s not so bad.” He refuted, stuffing his hands in his pockets. Against his fingertips, he felt the buzz from his phone signaling an incoming message – no doubt An letting him know she’d arrived. “He’s playing it smart. Even I don’t do a job without a contract.”
“Still, he could have been more polite.”
Her tone allowed no argument, so he didn’t bother to tell her that for him, it was actually a refreshing change of pace. He had all sorts of people tripping over themselves to fawn at his feet and, while some celebrities ate up all that attention, Qrow had certainly never been one of them. It was nice being talked to like an equal – a privilege often reserved only to his closest coworkers and manager.
There was also just something so honestly genuine about Tai. Call it simple intuition, but he knew what it took to play all sorts of characters and he could say without a doubt that the blond wouldn’t be able to fool a preschooler if he tried. He was the kind of man who hid nothing and wore his emotions right on his sleeve.
Qrow, who shuttered his behind fake smiles and sunglasses all day, could really appreciate a quality like that.
“It was really amazing to meet you.” Ruby said as she pulled open the front door for him. “Like, as in the-best-thing-to-ever-happen-to-me amazing.”
“You’re setting the standard pretty high there, considering it won’t be the last time you see me.” Qrow said, stepping outside.
Her expression lifted, her youth seeing to shine through in her eyes. “You mean, you’re really coming back? Ever after dad was, well, a total jerkwad?”
“Well, you know what they say. You feed a crow once, and it’ll come back to roost.” He pulled down his sunglasses, enough to wink at her. “See you ‘round kiddo.”
“Y-Yeah! See you! Thank you so much, Mr. Branwen!”
He was pretty sure she waved after his car long after it left the street.
~
Three days would pass before Qrow would return to the Dragon’s Den. Like a knight readying for battle, he stood in front of the door over an hour before opening time.
When Tai finally arrived, he almost dropped his keys in the gutter at the mere sight of him.
“Why hello thar pardner.” Qrow drawled, tipping an imaginary hat. “Fancy meeting you here.”
For a moment, he just stared blankly. But finally, a snort escaped him. “You need to do more westerns if that’s the best you got, pardner.” He stepped forward, adding more softly, “You, came back.”
He nodded. “’Fraid I don’t have the moon to offer you, but I got the next best thing.”
Taking his cue, the gentlemen standing nearby fixed up his tie and strode forward. “Mr. Xiao Long? I’m Hei Xiong. I work in property management. It’s my understanding Mr. Branwen here would like to strike a deal with you.”
“Does he now?” That same bite Qrow’d heard in the kitchen was back, the blonde’s hackles already raised. Not missing a beat, Hei ruffled through a few papers in his folder, pulling out the top one to show him. Tai read it aloud. “Claim of co-ownership?”
“Yes. Mr. Branwen is interested in becoming your business partner.” The manager supplied.
“…Does he now?” He echoed as he looked towards Qrow, but the fiery attitude he’d expelled like a shield had doused some.
“We would be happy to discuss it in more detail this morning, if you’ve available?” Hei asked.
Anticipation held Qrow’s breath and anxiety jumped his heart as he waited for the other man’s response.
For the second time, he was rewarded with another of Tai’s bright and toothy grins. “I certainly am.” He stepped past them both and opened the door to the Den. “Please come in.”

Quaran-Dine & Chill: Here are 12 Homemade Food Recipes From Some Of Your Favorite Bands
Tumblr media
Look, we get it: You’re bored. You’re stuck at home with nothing to do and to top it all off you’re absolutely starving with no idea what to make except for a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
Thankfully, we knew this would happen so we reached out to some amazing artists to see if they had any recipes to help us all get through this never-ending period of social distancing.
Submitting for a feature we like to call “Quaran-Dine & Chill,” bands like Mayday Parade, The Used, August Burns Red, Atreyu, Periphery, New Found Glory and more have all pitched in some of their most favorite recipes to make from home.
To check out how to create Groovy Toast, cook some of Herbie’s Homemade Chicken Taquitos or even put together some Veggie Pasta with Vegan Ass White Sauce, be sure to look below. Afterward, remember, before making anything to eat, WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS!
Oh, and there’s also a special 35-song Quaran-Dine & Chill playlist at the end of all this. Listen to it as loud as you possibly can -- we hear it helps the food taste better.
Enjoy!
JAKE BUNDRICK - MAYDAY PARADE
Tumblr media
JAKE’S OVERNIGHT OATS
Ingredients 1/2 cup oatmeal (any type will work but I personally like Old Fashioned or Rolled Oats) 1 cup water 1 scoop protein powder (It's not necessary by any means but I prefer French Vanilla from TrueNutrition) 3/4 cup of either frozen berries or fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries... you can either add this now to soak overnight or wait until you're ready to eat and then add berries. It's up to you) 1 banana sliced 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
Instructions Mix oatmeal, water, protein and frozen berries together in a bowl or jar (frozen berries are optional). You could forego this and choose to add fresh berries later.
Cover and let sit in the fridge overnight or for a few hours -- your choice.
After soaking, add fresh berries if you haven't already. Then add bananas and peanut butter.
Enjoy.
MATT HALPERN - PERIPHERY

REALLY HEALTHY “CEREAL”
I love cereal but I don't want all the bad stuff associated with most cereals. So I came up with a healthy alternative. It's pretty simple.
Grab a bowl
Add Trader Joe's Go Raw Trek Mix
Slice up some strawberries and add them too
Throw on a couple blueberries
Add 1% milk
And there ya have it! Really hearty, really healthy, easy to make “cereal” that actually fills you up!
MATT GREINER - AUGUST BURNS RED
Tumblr media
DEER CAMP BREAKFAST CASSEROLE
Ingredients 18 eggs 2 cups of milk 1 cup cheddar cheese 1 lb bacon 1 lb loose sausage 1 ts salt 1 tb pepper 1 pack hash browns
Instructions Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
Brown sausage and bacon separately-drain
Pan fry hash browns until golden brown
Grease a 13” x 9” baking pan and line the bottom with hash browns
Add a layer of bacon
Add a layer of sausage
Whip the eggs in a large bowl, then add the mix, salt and pepper, mix well
Add the cheese to the eggs and mix again
Pour the egg mixture over the meat and hash browns
Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes
Remove foil and bake until the top of the casserole begins to brown. Then remove from the oven.
BRENT WALSH - I THE MIGHTY
Tumblr media
B-LEE'S BREAKFAST FEAST
Ingredients Hash browns 2 eggs Onions Garlic Mushrooms Peppers Cheddar cheese Black pepper Salt Ketchup Valentina (black label, extra hot) hot sauce Olive oil
Instructions First, get the hash browns going in a frying pan with lots of oil. They take the longest.
In a second pan, get all the veggies going adding garlic when everything else is almost done so that you don't burn the garlic.
When the hash browns are done, plate them and immediately add the cheese to taste.
The veggies should be about done by this time so add those on top.
Fry the eggs (I like mine over medium) in the original pan you cooked the hash browns in and add salt and pepper while they cook.
I like to top it all off with some black label Valentina hot sauce and a little ketchup.
Add a coffee and mimosa on the side and boom, you got yourself a good ol' quarantine breakfast feast.
MARK HOLCOMB - PERIPHERY
Tumblr media
SRIRACHA TUNA SALAD
Take two cans of tuna, break it up in a mixing bowl, toss with two tablespoons of celery, half an onion and some chopped fresh parsley.
Add 1/3 cup of mayonnaise (or veganaise if you’re a tree-hugging hippy like me), 1 tablespoon mustard, and several tablespoons of Sriracha depending on how spicy you want it.
Top off with some ground pepper and lemon juice, to taste.
Also feel free to add half a diced apple if you like some sweetness and crunchy texture in there.
Delicious, healthy and super simple.
JEPHA - THE USED
Tumblr media
GROOVY TOAST
Soak a cup of any kind of nut (almond, cashew etc..) overnight in water.
Next day, strain most of the water except for a little bit to help blend it.
Put soaked nuts in blender with a dash of lemon, a pinch of salt, pepper, two tablespoons of olive oil.
Blend until smooth.
Optional fun: slice something spicy like a jalapeño.
Add “Groovy cheese” to either toast or crackers.
Drizzle olive oil and lemon on top of “Groovy Toast” with a spicy, spicy jalapeño and let your mouth party like your stuck at home for the next month or so 🤙
CYRUS BOLOOKI - NEW FOUND GLORY
Tumblr media
SHEPHERD’S PIE
Ingredients: Ground Beef (or turkey, or chicken, or any kind of meat for that matter) Onion, diced (optional) Frozen veggies (1 bag of pretty much anything you have, normally a carrot/corn/peas mix, but seriously, anything will do) Worcestershire Sauce (optional, but check the back of your cupboard because you probably have a bottle that’s been sitting there for years and is still good!) Potatoes (again, any kind of potatoes will do) Cheese (cheddar is the standard, but use what you have!)
Instructions: Cook your meat in a skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper and adding diced onion if you have while cooking.
Cook/microwave your bag of frozen veggies and add directly into the meat and stir.
Now’s the time to find that Worcestershire sauce if you have it -- if not, don’t worry, this is awesome without it too!
Add a cup of cheese in there and also 1/2 cup of liquid (could be water, could be chicken/beef broth if you have). Stir to combine all ingredients and turn to low heat to keep warm.
Meanwhile, make mashed potatoes however you can (whether by hand or with a box) and when done layer these two things in an ovenproof dish — meat/veggie mix on bottom, mashed potatoes on top.
Toss cheese all over the top of that and throw it in the oven on medium heat for 20 minutes to melt the cheese.
Now, sit back, relax and enjoy your dish whether with family or all alone. It’s a full meal all in one, tastes even better the next day and you can even freeze it!
BRANDON SALLER - ATREYU
Tumblr media
WINNER WINNER ISOLATION DINNER (Crispy Baked Chicken Thighs)
Ingredients Bone-in chicken thighs w/ skin Salt (coarse salt works best but any will work fine) Pepper Garlic powder Mixed herbs or Italian seasoning Desired veggie - Whatever you have (ie broccoli, green beans, asparagus, zucchini) Italian dressing (your favorite)
Instructions Preheat oven to 400º
Pat dry chicken on both sides with a paper towel
Season both sides of chicken liberally. Especially the top. The key to this chicken is the well seasoned crispy skin.
Place on sheet pan and roast in oven for about 40 minutes. You are looking for the chicken to be cooked through and skin to be browned and crispy.
When chicken has about 20 minutes left, put marinated veggies on a sheet pan and roast until chicken is done.
When finished, let chicken rest for about 5 minutes as it just came out of a 40-minute fiery hell and will 100% burn your mouth.
ENJOY!
IRA GEORGE - MOVEMENTS
Tumblr media
TACO SALAD
This is a very easy and fluid dish that you can make on your own with ease. Whether you are a vegetarian or vegan, you can make this fit your lifestyle.
Ingredients 1 bag of chopped romaine 1 can of black beans 1 frozen bag of white or brown rice 1 cup of frozen corn (thawed) Soyrizo (or any type of ground meat) 1/2 bell pepper 2 Roma tomatoes 1/3 yellow onion 1 avocado Cilantro 1 lime Taco sauce of your choice Cilantro dressing (or something comparable) Diced jalapeños Shredded Mexican cheese Handful of tortilla chips
Instructions Dice the bell pepper, yellow onion and Roma tomatoes
Chop a handful of cilantro
Thaw corn in microwave
In a small pot heat up the can of beans
Cook the soyrizo or other meat in a pan at the same time (if you are using meat you will need to season to your liking)
Heat rice in microwave (if using uncooked rice have it ready before everything)
Grab a big bowl and put rice down. Add the cilantro and lime and toss together
Now add everything else however you want. Remember this is a completely fluid meal, add or takeout any ingredient you feel. Get creative with it! DON’T FORGET TO ADD THE AVOCADO AND SAUCES!!
NICK VENTIMIGLIA - GRAYSCALE
Tumblr media
HERBIE’S HOMEMADE CHICKEN TAQUITOS
Servings: 12 Calories: 241 Prep time: 20 min Cook time: 20 min Total time: 40 min
Ingredients 3oz cream cheese 1/4 cup salsa of your choice 1 tablespoon lime juice 1 1/2 teaspoon of taco seasoning 2 fresh cloves of garlic, minced 3 tablespoons cilantro or parsley 2 scallions diced 2 cups shredded cooked chicken or whatever protein you desire 1 cup Mexican blend cheese or whatever you want 12 6in flour tortillas Cooking spray Kosher salt
Instructions Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix together the cream cheese, salsa, lime juice, taco seasoning, garlic, cilantro, and scallions until well combined and creamy. Add in the cooked chicken and cheese; stir to thoroughly combine.
Working with a few tortillas at a time, heat them in the microwave between two paper towels until they are soft enough to roll (about 10 seconds).
Spoon 3 tablespoons of the chicken mixture onto the lower third of a tortilla. Roll the tortilla tightly.
Place the rolled tortilla seam side down on the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining tortillas until the mixture is gone, making sure the taquitos are not touching each other.
Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray and sprinkle with a little kosher salt (don’t skip the salt!)
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until crisp and golden.
Serve with salsa, sour cream, or guacamole.
BALSAC THE JAWS 'O DEATH - GWAR
Tumblr media
I offered up my recipes for Feline Fricassee and Poodle Wellington but my publicist informed me that things hadn't yet gotten to the point where most people are ready to eat their pets. Instead, here is a recipe that you should be able to throw together without having to take that dreaded trip to the supermarket.
Now more than ever, everyone should be able to hunt and kill their own food. So the first thing you will need to do is grab your favorite battleaxe, knife or shotgun and go in your backyard. Look for the happy yellow flowers that are probably taking over your poorly manicured lawn. Pick as many of these as you can find, making sure to pull them out from the roots keeping the long dark green leaves intact. You may be asking, “What do I need this shotgun for?” The weapon is in case your neighbor sees you and tries to shake hands!
DOOMSDAY DANDELIONS
Ingredients Dandelion greens 1/2 cup olive oil 3 tablespoons vinegar (red wine vinegar or balsamic work best but whatever kind you can find in your cupboard. It is the apocalypse after all) 1 tablespoon mustard (Dijon if you've got it but who am I kidding, you only have that horrible yellow crap!) 2 cloves garlic minced Salt and pepper 2 teaspoons dry herb (use whatever you can find. What are you saving that stuff for?)
Instructions Pick the flowers off the dandelion greens (these are edible too, I suggest beer battering them and frying them, but that's another recipe and I'm not getting paid for this).
Trim the hairy roots from the greens and discard.
Wash all the dirt from the greens, cut them in half at the base keeping the leaves attached and soak in clean cold water.
Wisk all other ingredients together until they are a cohesive solution.
Drain and pat dry the greens and dress them with the vinaigrette.
Enjoy by yourself!!
SCHUYLAR CROOM - HE IS LEGEND
Tumblr media
VEGGIE PASTA WITH VEGAN ASS WHITE SAUCE
Ingredients 1 medium onion chopped 3 cloves of garlic Red bell pepper julienned Broccoli florets Mushrooms sliced thin Zucchini halved and sliced Yellow squash quartered and sliced 1 or 4 splashes of white wine
Finisher Sauce 1/4 cup of unsweetened oat milk 1 or 2 tbs coconut oil 1/4 cup vegan mayo A few handfuls of vegan cheese (I used a vegan pepper jack by Daiya and a bit of Follow Your Heart Parmesan) 1/3 cup of Nutritional yeast Fresh basil
Herbs and Spices Kosher Salt Fresh ground pepper Herbes de Provence Some other optional shit
Pasta Fettuccine noodles ( I like that Ancient Grain in the blue box.)
Instructions Boil salted water for your noodles and in a separate pot boil a few cups of water to blanche your broccoli. You’ll be mad if your water is not boiling before you start sautéing your veg... that shit goes quick, watched pots never boil.
In a large saucepan over med/high heat: Sauté onion for about 5 minutes until it is soft and almost translucent. Add chopped garlic until that smell wakes up your girlfriend. Boom you’re cooking. Salt and pepper that junk.
Add the peppers, mushrooms, zucchini and squash, hit it with some more salt and pepper. I like to throw in some Herbes de Provence and a TINY SPRINKLE of cayenne (a little goes a long way) plus some truffle salt because I’m fancy.
By now the lil pot should be boiling. Throw those broccoli guys in there and when they turn dark ass green drain them and throw them in the pot with the other veggies.
Shit’s all steamy now. It smells crazy good. Your girlfriend and your dog are in the kitchen salivating.
Hit those veggies with some white wine. I say a few dashes, but you’ll know. You’re gonna want to let that cook off for 3-5 minutes.
Maybe you’ve already put your noodles in. If so, they’re ready to drain. If not, get to it 9 minutes after the water starts boiling again (read the box)
Now your noodles are in the strainer. Make your partner divide that into bowls.
After the wine has cooked off, add the veganaise, coconut oil, vegan cheeses and the nutritional yeast and stir all of that up until melty and gooey and combined with the veggies. I like the throw in about half a cup of chopped sliced basil and leave a little for a garnish after you’ve topped your pasta with this creamy ass veggie goodness.
OH! Pro tip: Garlic bread. (Do this 40 minutes ago before starting anything else.)
Take 2 heads of garlic and peel most of the skin off but leave bulb intact.
Chop the very top of the head off the garlic to expose the clove (like 1/16 of the top).
Place it in tinfoil and close it up around the sides. Douse with a generous amount of olive oil and salt and pepper all over that opening on the bulb and close the foil up tight around the top. Create a little oven inside your oven.
Bake at 375 for 40 minutes. You’ll smell it.
Let it cool well.
Toast a loaf of French bread.
Those little garlic cloves will pop out like little teardrops of pure heaven. Smear that junk on your toasted bread and thank me later. The oil is now roasted garlic oil. You could drizzle that on the bread too or over the damn pasta that’s in the bowl.
(Be careful. You will want to skip the steps of letting the bulbs cool. They are unforgivingly hot and will burn your flesh.)

Monday
We had such a fun weekend - nothing extra special or crazy, just some fun time together.  The mister had an issue with his big, desktop Mac which meant he had to make a trip out to the Green Hills Mall to the Apple store.  He’s never had an issue with any of his various Mac-this and Mac that and quite frankly, he’d rather hear that he has a heart or liver problem than that his Mac is sick.  But it is and they had to do some sort of emergency transplant on it.  While he mourned in the Apple store I picked up a little MAC of my own.
Tumblr media
I bought a lipstick and an eye shadow and then picked up some cookies for Mickey at a bake sale outside William-Sonoma.  He seemed pretty sad about his computer and cookies almost always cheer people up, right?  I purposely bought peanut butter-chocolate chip because I don’t like peanut butter cookies.  If I’d bought any other kind they would have disappeared while I waited on that bench.
Anywho, after his appointment with the Apple doctor we strolled around a bit (I made him explore every inch of The Container Store) and then grabbed some lunch.  After lunch we decided to catch a matinee of the movie The Peanut Butter Falcon.  Mickey liked it, I’m on the fence.  I thought it was going to be a feel good movie, and it kind of was...but not really.  For me there were way too many BS moments in the film  - those moments when you spend so much time ticking off the many ways a particular thing could never happen that you almost lose the flow of the movie. I’m always ready to suspend belief for a really good piece of fiction, but sometimes those niggling questions need to be addressed.  Still, it was a lot of fun to kick back and watch a flick with my favorite date.
Tumblr media
Now, all of that was fun - we had a great time. But the chef’s kiss on this day was when that wonderful man o’mine volunteered to do the grocery shopping.  He didn’t complain when I made a long list, put asterisks by everything I had a coupon for, loaded him up with said coupons, and waved goodbye.  Grocery shopping is a chore that has been mine since the tender  age of 18.  That chore means that you also need to plan the weekly meals, anticipate anything that may run out (that means keeping count of everything from toilet paper rolls to ketchup), watch your budget, hunt it all down, unload it and put it away, and then do it all over again and again and again. The mister knows I consider that drudgery and he loves grocery shopping (how weird is that?) so he volunteered to at least do the hunting and gathering part.  That was the best part of my Saturday.  He came home with steaks to throw on the grill.  That wasn’t on the list, but I make the guy eat so much chicken and fish that I won’t begrudge him some red meat occasionally.  So we ended the day with a delicious dinner and even a few sprinkles of rain. We spent Sunday puttering. Mickey drove out to the fairgrounds to pick up his prize money and all of our photos.  I poked around in the gardens and harvested another bunch of green peppers.  We are overrun with green peppers.
Tumblr media
I may as well mention, while I’m on the topic of gardening, that I am stressing about my pumpkin crop.  I know that I squandered valuable time and planted way late.  I may or may not have even a single pumpkin to pick for Halloween, probably not. But I could have plenty for decorating for the remainder of fall.  Worst case scenario is that I’m just growing a tasty buffet for the deer.  Right now I have healthy vines and plenty of blooms, however...I don’t have enough girl blooms.  The boy blooms are ready to go, they’re loaded with pollen and looking for romance.  But after searching under a bazillion leaves and checking bloom after bloom, I found just one girl.  Oh dear.
Tumblr media
The girls have a little fat bottom like you see on that future bloom.  That little bottom becomes a pumpkin.  And that’s the only one I have so far.  What the heck? Tick tock, pumpkin plant! Time is wasting!  I feel like I need to post a guard beside that blossom to watch over it day and night.  Geez.  Well, lesson learned - no messing around next summer, plant earlier and pray for girls. And that, folks, is the fast-paced life we’re living here in Mt. Juliet. Don’t try to keep up with us, we’re quite the jet setters.

Perennial favorites
“When the sun rises, I go to work.  When the sun goes down, I take my rest. I dig the well from which I drink, I farm the soil which yields my food, I share creation. Kings can do no more.” Chinese proverb
In the sizzling heat of summer, many annuals go to seed and flowers fade. Thankfully there are plants besides cacti and succulents that enjoy the higher temperatures. Most of my favorite summer bloomers are perennials that once established require minimal irrigation.
My top ten summer flowering favorites include acanthus, agapanthus, bougainvillea, bower vine, crape myrtle, crocosmia, daylily, hollyhock, hydrangea, and rose. I also am a huge fan of the Naked Lady, but it sprouts its neck later in August, lasting through the fall months. Acanthus:
Also known as Bear’s breeches, Acanthus can be deciduous or evergreen growing from rhizomes. It is drought tolerant with shiny oval leaves lobed with spines and spires of flowers that are purple, white, pink, cream, or green. It doesn’t like full sun when it is hot, so it may be best to grow Acanthus in partial shade. The flower spikes can grow to five feet. I like it as a back border plant or to line a path. The good news: butterflies flock to it. The bad news: deer devour it. Cut it to the ground in the fall and it will re-emerge in the spring. Greek Corinthian column capitals were and are modeled after the Acanthus plant.
Agapanthus:
Another rhizome spreader that is hardy in drought times, yet pretty in bloom is the Lily of the Nile or African Lily that we know as Agapanthus. The rhizomes retain water and divide easily to plant in other locations. They prefer a sunny location, although I’ve seen many beautiful specimens growing in the shade. The sky blue, midnight blue, or white trumpet-shaped flowers bloom June through the end of August with stalks that reach four feet high. The elegant strap-like leaves are evergreen. When planting work compost and organic matter into the soil and continue to fertilize during the growing season. Deadhead when the flowers fade and toss them on the compost pile. Wear gloves when working with this plant as it is poisonous and could cause an allergic reaction in those who are prone to plant allergies.
Bougainvillea:
A gorgeous tropical vining shrub, bougainvillea flowers are modified leaves called bracts blooming in colors of yellow, orange, white, and my personal favorite, fluorescent pink. Native to arid climates, bougainvillea thrives in hot weather and needs full sun while requiring a minimum of H20. On our ranch, bougainvillea covered one full side of our two-story farmhouse delighting our family year after year with a spectacular showcase of hues. Plant bougainvillea on a strong structure or well-made fence. It can be pruned when it starts to rain or after flowering. Since it is susceptible to frost, cover with burlap in the winter to protect it if your plant is small enough.
Bower Vine:
This is the most perfect flowering evergreen vine for pergolas, arbors, and trellises. Grow bower vine over awnings, around windows and doors, or as a gate climber. It is easy to care for, doesn’t invade a roof or siding, and is a swift grower.  Blooming throughout spring, summer, and fall, flowers are pink and white with deep-throated trumpets attractive to hummingbirds. I grow bower vines in full sun and partial shade. Once established they don’t require much water while providing year-round beauty with their shiny green leaves. Prune whenever the vine needs a bit of TLC as this vine is not fussy. Cut stems to add to indoor arrangements.
Crape Myrtle:
The crape myrtle is hands-down one of my very favorite specimens because of its beauty and interest in every season. In summer the bush or tree is covered in showy flowers, in fall the leaves change to gorgeous red, umber, and gold, in winter the leaves fall off showcasing beautiful bark, and in spring the shiny green leaves sprout. All crape myrtles bloom on new wood and come in colors that include watermelon, red, white, pink, lavender, and purple. I prune my purple shrubs in early winter to twelve inches from the ground and by summer they have grown to three feet high. Prune trees periodically to keep them shaped. Although crape myrtles prefer acidic soil, they will grow in sand, clay, or loam. The Chinese Lagerstroemia indica crape myrtle is prone to powdery mildew so look for a cross with the Japanese L. fauriei to enjoy glorious blooms, attractive bark, and leaves without any issues. They are drought resistant, too!
Crocosmia:
This firecracker plant boasts a tropical origin with bright blazing orange, yellow, red flowers that light up the summer garden. In our region, they start blooming right in time for the fireworks of Independence Day and continue until autumn. Their sword-like foliage offers spikey interest to the landscape. Hummingbirds and butterflies are especially attracted to the trumpet-shaped blooms while deer and rabbits stay away. The corms naturalize and the stalks make excellent floral displays. After the flowers are spent, the seedpods provide additional appeal.
Daylily:
Sometimes called “ditch weed”, daylilies will grow anywhere! Their botanical name is Hemerocallis from the Greek word hemera meaning day and kallos meaning beauty. They tolerate every kind of soil, are extremely low-maintenance, and require minimal irrigation once established. They are not a true lily as they have fleshy roots as opposed to bulbs. The leaves grow from a crown and the flowers form on a leafless stem called a “scape”. Most do not self-sow. Divide the roots every three to five years to create more plants. Each flower blooms for only a day, but each scape will have a dozen or more buds that will continue to open. A variety of colors and shades are available with butter yellow being the most ubiquitous. Every part of the daylily is edible. Sauté the buds in butter, garlic, and a little white wine for a delicious veggie treat that tastes like asparagus mixed with peas.
Hollyhock:
Happy memories surround the legacy of my hollyhocks. I can’t remember a time when hollyhocks were not growing in my mother’s or grandmother’s gardens. My seeds are heirlooms from several generations of family gardeners with a history that goes back over a hundred years. Hollyhocks are the classic cottage garden staple that every gardener should include for spikey tall stalks of pink, white, magenta, and red blooms that will continue until winter. A member of the hibiscus family, this self-seeding China native grows best in full sun in rich, well-drained soil. Because they grow to fifteen feet or more, plant towards the back of the garden or near a fence. By deadheading when the flowers fade, you will encourage continuous bloom production. Prune to the ground by winter and save the seedpods to share.
Hydrangea:
Another favorite plant for generations of gardeners, hydrangeas produce abundant blooms in partial sun. They are thirsty plants and need mulch around them to improve the soil texture and maintain moisture. Pruning hydrangeas is tricky because it is necessary to know what type you have as different hydrangeas require different pruning times and methods. The most common hydrangeas are Bigleaf, Oakleaf, Mountain, and Climbing which are pruned after summer blooming. They rebloom on “old wood” which are the stems from the previous season. Panicle and Smooth hydrangeas bloom on new wood (the stems from this season) and must be pruned before the buds form. I’m looking forward to trialing new Panicles from Proven Winners which will include Limelight Prime and a space-saving Fire Light Tidbit that will have cream-colored flowers covering the plant in summer, then turning to pink and lasting through frost.
Rose:
No introduction is necessary for the fabulousness of the rose. Roses are the most versatile, beautiful, and coveted plant in every garden. When gardeners proclaim roses to be the bedrock of their landscape, they are not exaggerating. Roses come in every color, shade, petal, and size to suit every desire. Roses are a diverse group of plants that include shrub roses, carpet roses, floribundas, hybrid teas, climbing, old roses, rambling roses, and tree roses. Their shapes and structures differ. Some look like peonies, others have a single floral pattern. There are rosettes, cups, doubles, pompons, button-eyed, incurved, recurved, and quartered.  My favorites are David Austin roses with intoxicating fragrance, fine foliage, disease resistance, and stunning flowers.  Over a hundred roses grace my landscape and I am constantly adding more. As Emma Goldman stated, “I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.”
When the sun rises, I go to work, spending as much time in nature as feasible. Consider planting some of my perennial favorites to enjoy elegance and exquisite allure throughout the summer months.
Stay cool, hydrated, and share creation.
Happy Gardening. Happy Growing.

“Scott?” You murmured, carefully opening the door of his room, not knowing if he was there or not and if he had answered when you had called his name the first time down the stairs after coming in. Shortly before, Scott had given you a copy of the key to his house to celebrate the years you were a couple.
It been 2 years today you had the happiness and the privilege to go out with the nicest and sexiest boy in all Beacon Hills. And to celebrate this important event, you had organized a romantic date. First, it was the cinema to see a movie you had chosen together. Then it was dinner at the restaurant, the one where you met the first time. It was not a fancy place, rather a buffet. And it was by wanting to have both the last chicken wing that you had met for the first time.
And finally, the date was to end with a walk along the sea, hand in hand under the stars.
As usual, out of nervousness, you had arrived in advance at Scott’s. But as he had always told you that his house was yours, it was timidly that you had unlocked the door and entered. And so you found yourself in his room, hesitant, calling his name weakly. At the same time, the door of the bathroom in his room opened, just in front of you. And before your eyes was now your boyfriend with only that piece of fabric that the white towel loosely tied after his waist was. Only a gust of wind would be necessary to make fly this barrier and thus be able to admire his entire anatomy.
“Wow! Y/N!” Scott exclaimed, stepping backward, a protective hand coming to rest against the towel to hold it well so it didn’t fall. “You’re early! ”
The question passed into the butter as your gaze detailed what you had before you. His chest was still damp, droplets of water perfected on the surface of his tanned skin. His muscles protruded, trying to hide the little that was uncovered and his hair was dripping on his shoulders. The surprise on his face was quickly replaced by a slight embarrassment and a joy to see you, which made his lips stretch in a beautiful smile.
Your surprise grew to an eager curiosity and finally become a strange and sudden excitement that you didn’t think you could have today, precisely that evening where you only wanted a quiet and romantic date with your lover. But the desire you felt at the moment, increasing your heart rate and temperature could not disappear with only a finger snapped.
“Damnit, Scott, are you doing it on purpose?” You mumbled, biting your lower lip, not leaving his body.
“What?” Your lover asked, still holding his towel now with both hands, shyness raising the red to his face. He hadn’t moved a centimeter, surely for fear that at the slightest movement you would jump on him like a predator. Except that he was the wolf, he was the predator and he shouldn’t have been so afraid of the deer you were. His reaction was only more cute and increased the desire you had for him.
"Don’t play that, McCall.” You intimated him by removing the dress you were wearing specially for the date that slowly slid down your body to land at your feet. You climbed over the piece of fabric, now only in underwear in front Scott who had very round eyes, detailing your body from top to bottom and then from bottom to top.
Scott didn’t move as you walked towards him like a hungry tigress, whilst passing your tongue over your lips as sensually as possible. When you reached a few centimeters from him you stopped, watching for his reactions. He was just as straight as a lamppost and even if you weren’t a werewolf, you could easily guess that his heart was beating wildly. Seeing that you were doing nothing, Scott swallowed and opened his mouth to speak, but his thoughts were interrupted by your hand clutching his ass firmly over the towel. His mouth closed and his eyes lit up with malice as a perverse smile spread over your face.
And so his mouth crashed on yours for a hungry kiss.
"You’re not allowed to do that to me …” You groaned between two quick breaths. “So … sexy …” You added as your tongue licked his parted lips and soon his tongue came to meet yours in your mouth.
“Sorry … but you’re not any better …” Scott answered by passing his free hand in the hollow of your back to bring you only even closer to him, your breast pressing against his wet chest as your hands were wandering in his soaked hair. “But…” He continued, pulling his face away from yours to take the time to catch his breath. “What about the date …”
Your mind emptied for a moment. The date. If you did anything else, everything you had planned wouldn’t happen. And you had planned the date since a long time.
When Scott wanted to put his mouth back against yours to prolong the kiss, it was your hand that he met.
“Something’s wrong?” Your boyfriend worried as he took your hand between his to kiss your wrist.
"We can’t miss the date …” You sighed, crossing his gaze. “I … I’m going to cold myself …” You continued by swallowing and pointing the bathroom, leaving your dress in his room.
“Y/N …” Scott called you, but you were already in the bathroom, door closed, watching your naked reflection in the mirror while waiting for the water to be at the right temperature. You held in your hand your panties now very wet and unwearable.
“Great …” You muttered, letting the cloth fall on the floor to get into the shower and the cold water made you shiver.
You needed to change your mind. The droplets fell on your head like an autumn rain, cold and refreshing. You were so hot that it was only pleasant. But it was helpless. You let the water fall on your head but couldn’t remove the exciting image from your mind, Scott almost naked, wet, the v that his hips bone were making just before the towel hides the rest …
You pressed your head against the wall and sighed. The sound of the falling water was so loud you didn’t hear the bathroom door open or the curtain of the shower slipped on its stand. You knew that Scott was near you only when the warmth of his body enveloped you completely and you saw his hands plastered on the wall in front of you, on both sides of your head. You startled, surprised to see him near you, but all the more excited.
“Scott …” You mumbled between your teeth as you turned towards him, your back now against the wall , his face a few inches from yours. He had a jet of water on his head, which came to lower his hair against his face. One of his hands reached the hot water spout he turned to add heat to the water. His eyes never left you.
“Y/N …” Scott whispered, leaning his head to the side to get a good look at you and you did the same. You two were naked and could finally admire each other.
“Scott, if you stay I won’t be able hold back, I …”
“Who tell you you have to hold back?” He cut you off as he came closer, increasing the tension. The water was now lukewarm and pleasant on your bodies.
“The date …” You mumbled in a small, shrill voice.
“It won’t be the first date canceled to do something more … enterprising,” Scott went on, his lips brushing against yours. You raised your head to not lose sight of his eyes burning with desire and your mouth tended by automatism towards his in search of contact. And your lips were burning with the desire to stand against his.
And that’s what happened.
And it was explosive.
Possessed by desire, it wasn’t merely a kiss. Ardor and intensity mixed up with your saliva. His hands were resting against your chin. Scott always preferred to put his hands on your face to let them walk around your body. He always preferred love to eroticism and it was something you loved. He was so sweet, even when everything was telling him to devour you whole at this very moment.
But you weren’t like him. Your hands caressed his back, touching each one of his muscles and the curves they made, lingering more in the hollow of his kidneys just before his ass. You were dying to grab it brutally but you wanted to caress all of him, so your hands made a detour, tracing a path gently along his spine to get to his shoulders where you could feel his muscles contract as he turned your head on the side to kiss your jaw and down to your neck where he left gentle, tender kisses filled with love. Your hands followed the path of his muscles to go on his soaked chest you enjoyed caressing slowly, like a drop of water descending lazily on his skin.
You heard him laughing on your throat, his breath tickling your wet skin. You probably had found a sensitive spot where he was ticklish. You were going to keep that detail for later.
“I love you Y/N … I love you so much …” Scott muttered to your throat before leaving a long kiss and lowered his head down your collarbone to your breasts. His hands left your jaw to sit on both sides of your body and down your waist at the same time as his face, leaving kisses wherever his mouth passed. Your sternum, your belly, your navel and finally it came to your intimacy. Kneeling in front of you, Scott raised his head, a gentle, naughty smile at the corners of his lips. He was already delighted at what he was going to do as his hands spread your legs. In this position, he no longer received the water from the shower on him, but he would soon be wet by something else.
Without warning or waiting for your agreement, his mouth went to melt against your privacy, making your head tilted back and your hands gripped the slippery wall behind you. The way he tugged his tongue on your clit, first slowly then faster and faster … one of his hands left your thigh to go under his chin and slipped into the right place. Scott entered a finger in you and you felt him smile against your intimacy.
“You like it?” He asked you, pulling back a little to lick his lips and it was such an erotic sight a groan escaped your vigilance, which made him smile even more. His tongue was no longer against your clit, but his finger was moving faster in you, easily malleable so much you were wet. Very quickly he added a second and this time you couldn’t hold a long moan from coming out of your parted lips. He knew all your weak points and knew exactly how to make you come in just a few minutes with only his fingers. But you wanted more. You wanted him. And from where you were standing you could see that as one of his hands was getting into you, the other was griping his member and pumping it slowly as he licked his lips again.
"Scott … I …”
“What do you want, my love?” He asked you by offering you his most cute and seductive look which made you moan again, especially as he added a third finger in you.
“Take me …” You moan softly as you put your hands in your wet hair before you lower them and put your fingers in your mouth to bite them.
“With pleasure, beautiful …” Scott answered. After giving a last kiss on your privacy, he withdrew his fingers, leaving you suddenly empty and he rose to his full height. As soon as he got at your height you rushed against his mouth and wrapped your arms around his neck to bring him closer to you. The kiss you gave him was asking, hungry. You needed him in you now.
Scott placed his hands against your ass and clasped them gently. You knew what you had to do. You jumped into his arms and wrapped your legs against his pelvis, clinging as hard as possible against him as he moved forward for your back to lean against the wall of the shower. Although slippery, you managed to stabilize yourself and Scott was strong. The advantage of having a werewolf as a boyfriend: shower sex with no problem.
While he held you with one hand, his other came to take his erection and place it in front of your very wet entrance. All this time your mouths never stop kissing a second. Scott didn’t need your agreement, he knew what you wanted, he knew you by heart. So it was without hesitation that he penetrated you, letting you slide slowly against his very hard member. Your mouth left his to take a breath when you felt the so much desired intrusion and a smile stretched your lips, which you immediately placed against Scott’s as he began to move in you. At first slowly to find the rhythm, his hip strokes accelerated. You could feel him coming and going in you, touching the most sensitive points one after the other. Very quickly, out of breath, you had to pull back your mouth from his to breathe. Your faces were close to each other and your burning and feverish looks never looked away. It was both intense and erotic, to look in the eyes of the person who was making love to you, slowly and passionately, lifting your body just enough to lower it on its limb while moving its pelvis at the same time, giving long and slow blows at once pleasant and brutal that made you groan softly just in front of him.
Scott’s breathing was fast and erratic as he accelerated more and more. There came even a moment when you almost let go so much you liked it, so much the pleasure made your body numb.
Then the sensation arrived, a pleasant warmth rose in your belly to the highest point, spreading everywhere between your legs, legs which began to tremble against Scott’s body. Your head swung back again and your eyes closed when your head touched the wall behind you. The orgasm rose in you and you felt teeth resting against your throat, which only amplified the sensation. Scott was biting your neck strongly but not enough to pierce your skin. Just enough to bring you on the edge of ecstasy.
Then everything exploded. Your body began to have uncontrollable tremors and you had to do everything not to fall. Fortunately, Scott seemed to have planned everything because he was holding you firmly against him until your body finally relaxed and your open mouth slowly closed.
“God, you’re so hot …” Scott whispered against your throat as his blows grew faster. “So hot …” He repeated and felt that he too would soon come to an end.
“I love you Scott …” You finally answer him gently between two small groans because you were still very sensitive from the previous orgasm.
Eventually, Scott came and stopped moving. You stayed in the same position for a moment, hugging each other until he pulled out and let you slide down slowly, the water in the shower clearing all the evidence of what had just happened.
After washing for real this time, you were waiting for Scott to get dressed. You were lying on his bed on your stomach only wearing his jersey, swinging your feet in the air, your bare ass in sight. And when Scott arrived in the room and thus saw, a smile spread his lips. He had dressed for the purpose of at least going to the restaurant, but now that he saw you like that he didn’t see any use for it. He kicked his shoes and pulled out his shirt as he walked towards you.
“We’ll order some pizza,” he told you and you turned on your back to welcome him against you for a sweet kiss. Again, he could have enjoyed your nakedness and caress your bare skin but he preferred placing his hands against your cheeks.
“Happy anniversary,” you mumbled, caressing his face.
“Happy two years.” He answered.
While he wanted to rest his lips against yours, you took the opportunity to test your theory from before. Your hands went up against his stomach and you put your fingers against his skin to tickle. The effect was instantaneous; Scott burst out laughing and began to move in every direction, trying to escape your evil fingers. He even fell on the floor and you took advantage of it to ride astride him to continue the treatment. But Scott didn’t intend to let himself be tickled because he grabbed your hands to stop you from continuing.
"I surrender!” He laughed. You found him so beautiful, radiant with happiness that you could only bring your face closer to his to lay your lips against his mouth.
"I love you, Scott McCall.”
"I love you too, Y/N  Y/L/N. ”
Please let me know what you thought of this. I worked so hard and was so uncertain like I almost decided to not post it. Yeah intense like that. (No seriously it would make me happy and relieved if you have some time to tell me your thought because I’m really not sure and anxious about it)

Hey, can I hear about your Breath of the Wild au? It sounds cool
thank u so much for asking and i’m sorry i made u wait for this!!
i’m actually kinda in the process of redesigning them so i might post some sketches later but basically
[yeesh this got long ill put a readmore]
-vio is half-sheikah and a traveling merchant, wanders hyrule foraging and hunting and selling things, makes a lot of money because he’ll bring his wares places they wouldn’t usually be found (for example, bringing lurelin great sea fish to the gerudo desert). he has extensive knowledge of hyrule’s topography and flora and fauna, and enough history under his belt to know where to avoid, or just be very prepared for. he doesn’t stay in one place much, the sheikah in kakariko will lend him a room when he stops by, but he did buy out that empty house in hateno and uses that as HQ, mostly in the winter when it’s dangerous and foolhardy to be on the roads.
-blue started as a hylian spearfisher in lurelin village. she grew up there, the people that cared for her are still there. but life as a fisherwoman is very slow and not at all the kind of life she wanted to lead, so when she was 16 she snuck off in the middle of the night and hauled ass to the lakeside stable near lake floria, used the money she’d made from fishing to rent a horse until she could find and tame her own, and abandoned lurelin. she left a note, told everyone what she was up to, but didn’t go back for a long time. now she goes back a lot, it’s how she makes her living after all, spreads lurelin’s good name and gets them (and herself) lots of business.
-shadow is a merchant as well, sort of, sells really only meat and the odd gems and precious materials he can scrounge. it’s more a side-job, a way to get pocket money, because mostly he bums off the others- takes some fish and crabs from blue’s hauls to sell, stays at vio’s house during the winters, you get the picture. no one’s sure of his origin; everyone just assumes hylian. his dirty little secret is that he’s an ex-yiga, successfully emancipated. not something he wants to share with anyone, obviously. because of that, though, he’s inherently and irreparably tied to ganon- and, by extension, the blood moon. it isn’t something he shares until years after he’s met the squad™ and gotten comfortable with them, and that’s a main driving point in the au for me: finding out how (and if it’s possible) to free shadow from ganon’s influence.
-green is half-gerudo and raised fully hylian, in a more or less single-parent household, as his mother has many duties to attend to in the gerudo royal guard. he’s very close with his father and they probably send postcards back and forth even if they only travel to the market. he works as a mercenary of sorts: a for-hire monster slayer. he’s a huge history buff, has always loved reading about ganon and his previous incarnations, and was enamored with the idea of being in the princess’s guard detail since he was very little. that, of course, is not possible, so monster-hunting is the next best thing (he’s deathly afraid of keese, though.) he really likes shield surfing even though he’s not great and usually ends up with scraped knees and a dented shield afterwards. and if he isn’t fulfilling a contract or rolling down hills or hanging with his dad he’s probably gardening. he likes gardening. (he sucks at gardening. everything dies. even cacti.)
-red is zelda’s (not the princess) little brother. he’s not really sure what he wants to do quite yet, but he, unlike green, is good at gardening and sometimes helps out hateno’s farmers for some money, and sometimes just because he’s a nice person. also, he found out while trying to make zelda a birthday gift that he’s very good at the more delicate parts of metalworking, stuff like wire-wrapping and the intricate designs like the zora do. he’s thinking about following through with that, but it’s not a definite. he likes exploring a lot, too, but he was never given any formal training in fighting, so he’s leery of it until he gets some proper instruction from the others.
-zelda is not THE zelda, in this au. she was named after The Princess Zelda™ as an honor and a tribute to the latent princess, as many have come to call her. she bears the name with pride (as she should). she’s a seamstress, mostly, with a good eye for detail, and aspiring to learn the spear, because, yknow, weapons are fun, and she needs to protect her little bro. she’s not always with the squad, she has things to attend to in hateno and needs to develop her trade, but when she does she absolutely kicks green off his throne and starts calling the shots, with vio as her tactical advisor and blue as her bodyguard. also she doesn’t let anything near red, ever. she kicks ass, end of story.
some fun, random facts:
-vio’s horse’s name is mocha. he got her when she was just a filly, and raised her himself. and as a silly, literal-minded child, her coat reminded him of coffee. (she’s a sooty bay quarter horse with a mane like a palomino’s, and an irregular blaze and snip on her face.)
-do not, ever, challenge blue to a spar. she’ll knock you on your ass with her spear in .5 seconds. she also teaches zelda how to work a spear. technically the form isn’t correct, as she was brought up taught how to spearfish, but it works well enough.
-red is insanely resistant to changes in temperature. he and zelda lived in hebra for a little over a decade, before their mother died and they moved to hateno. zelda bundles up in 4+ layers if the temperature dips below 70, but red? 40 degrees, he’s out in shorts and a tank top. he lives. whenever they kill a wizzrobe he’s given its rod. no one else can be trusted. he also makes killer hot chocolate.
-green is very good with history but can’t be trusted with maps. he just… doesn’t know how to read them, somehow. if you ask him where any historical landmark is he can give you its coordinates, latitude and longitude and regional climate, but hylia help him if he has to use a map.
-zelda, practiced as she is with her fingers from all her years of seamstressing, is an excellent pickpocket. she doesn’t admit it, and doesn’t want people to know for fear of tarnishing the good noble name of zelda. but she can take your wallet, your keys, your child and your heart and you’d be none the wiser. how could such a sweet girl with such a dignified name do anything of the sort?
-much as shadow likes to brag about being the “””tough guy”””, hes Not. sees a keese? screams. moblin? nope, let the other guys take this one. he and green do bond over hating keese. but otherwise he’s mercilessly teased, once he’s found out. it’s part of the reason he ditched the yiga- too many dealings with those things. he eventually gets over it, because he has to, but he is NOT happy about it.
-red and zelda kick ass at snow surfing. it was their favorite thing to do when they lived in hebra. they’d put selmie to shame. they can shred a mountain like shawn white all day and go back for more the next morning. don’t dispute their titles. it will end poorly for you.
-blue whittles. it’s a big stress reliever, keeps her hands busy, and it was a necessary skill in lurelin, where new fishing spears had to be made nearly every day. she’s also pretty good at basket weaving, for the same reasons, although the lack of sharp objects in it pushes her more towards whittling.
-vio makes his own bows and arrows. along the same vein as blue’s whittling, it’s something to do and at least that way he’s assured of its quality. sometimes they trade projects, or they’ll randomly etch things into vio’s bow, like a strange and permanent game of telephone. more than once she’s carved a dick into his bow. it would be covered in them if vio didn’t find a way to make them into abstract works of art. he tried to retaliate, once, and carved one into the staff of blue’s spear. she picked it out in gold leaf and wore it like a badge of honor until that particular spear broke (embedded in a lynel’s flank). your move, vio.
-they split the task of making food, usually:
green is good at cooking, insofar that vegetables/herbs are involved. if you add meat it’ll taste like garbage. but he’s very good with vegetables.
zelda is insanely good with spices and sauces and if you let her she’ll burn your tongue out. they get into competitions, to see who can withstand her stuff the longest. no one can beat her. she is feared and respected. mostly feared.
blue does the seafood, predictably. it’s a delicate and precise art, of which she is the master. usually she’s a huge fan of spices but on seafood she vetoes it (most of the time) because, as she puts it, “it’ll be f-ckin’ delicious without anything on top”. she’s right.
vio does all the fancy stuff. as a kid he’d get bored and just read whatever he could get his hands on- many of them were cookbooks. so if they’re looking for a big meal with a lot of weird obscure and really good (if small-portioned) stuff they’ll get him on it, and he delegates helpers from there depending on the dish.
red does mostly bread and desserts, his specialty being pastries and honey candies, and really anything heavily sugar-based. sometimes he’ll saute things in honey and it’s honestly to die for, even though a lot of it sounds kinda weird, like honey-glazed chicken thigh. just trust him. also his pasties are in VERY high demand on long journeys.
shadow is bad at most things but he’s actually really good at soups, mostly because all it entails is throwing things in a pot with salt water and butter and waiting. he just has a good sense for what to throw in. other than that please never let him in a kitchen. he’ll burn it down, and then somehow manage to burn the ashes. trust red, don’t trust shadow.
-there’s a running joke that green was some kind of forest spirit in a previous life. wild animals will just walk right up to him as though they’ve known him a lifetime. deer will approach him, rabbits hop right up, foxes trail him, birds have landed on his head. no one knows why. he likes to name them, and gives them scraps of his dinner. it’s a sad affair when shadow, oblivious or just apathetic, makes them into the night’s dinner, but at least it’s made with love. green might (definitely) cry a little bit.
-vio has long hair, and one of the favorite traveling games to play is to see how much shit they can get into it before he notices. leaves, twigs, burrs, feathers, small rocks, literally anything is fair game as long as you can sneak it in without him knowing. and if there’s a special occasion, and everyone’s all dressed to the 9′s, and vio’s got his hair done up, they play a different game where they sneak the pins out of his hair one by one. whoever pulls the pin that undoes it completely loses and has to take responsibility for the whole thing. bets are placed, and vio absolutely gets revenge wherever possible. it doesn’t stop them.

5 Nov 2018 - SCHWANS AND SCHWEBELS
Greetings from the middle of Pennsylvania! (I really had to restrain myself from saying the middle of nowhere. I really exaggerate how much Towanda is out in the country. There's actually a good amount of civilization here).
Sister Gaush's List of Blessings and Miracles From This Week:
- My mother sent us a package full of chocolate (tears formed in my eyes for real I love chocolate so much) and Peanut Butter ! We actually ran out of peanut butter THAT day and then we get some on our doorstep via a miracle package- The Elders in our area (our area has two sets of missionaries, us and the Elders, which doesn't usually happen, but it's happening right now right here I guess) brought us a bunch of frozen foodstuffs because I had been sick. Among the frozen treasures were pilaf rice, chicken and wild rice soup, and BREADED CHICKEN TENDERS. The Elders are actual angels. Sister Smoot and I were so blown away because all the food they gave us was Schwans. Like, food that is delivered to your house from a catalog. ??
- Sister Smoot and I bought a loaf of bread from Hurley's (the place we get all our groceries because we don't even have a Wal-Mart in our area) and little did we know it would be the best loaf of bread we had ever graced our tastebuds with in our whole lives. The brand is Schwebels and I think it is my one true love. Literally every time I had toast or made a sandwich with that bread I started to tear up because it was the best honey wheat bread I had ever tasted holy cow.
- ZONE CONFERENCE. I WENT TO MY FIRST ZONE CONFERENCE. Zone conference is something that happens every 6 weeks as a missionary, where all the missionaries from the surrounding areas get together at one of our church buildings with the Mission President and his wife and have a big conference. President Bednar and his wife spoke and did some trainings and then we did some workshops the rest of the day where we were trained by some of the more experienced missionaries there. Such an uplifting experience. It was cool because you get to see how a bunch of other missionaries teach and say things and you get a lot of new ideas for how to teach and talk to people! We listened to talks, did role plays, learned how to better use our mission phones and tablets to do missionary work, and had a BLAST. Everyone loves zone conference so much because you're actually accepted by people. Like you're surrounded by people who actually want to talk to you all day! Wow what a concept! Missionaries face a lot of rejection all day every dag, so it's really such a nice thing when people stop and talk and are nice to you LOL. We had lunch all together at zone conference in which we ate SUBWAY SANDWICHES. if you know me, you know I love SANDWICHES. I was so ecstatic when it was time for lunch and I saw giant platters of SANDWICHES being brought out. I was in heaven.
- Sister Smoot and I reached our tracting goal!! We knocked on 100 doors. Our thing was that once we knocked on 100 doors, we would treat ourselves to the Red Rose Diner. Except, we changed it to Vincent's Pizza (also located in downtown Towanda) because we realized the diner is like never open. But we kept seeing thaf Vincent's was a poppin place AND it delivered, soooo we ordered pizza for lunch today and had it delivered to our little red house on the banks of the Susquehanna. So glad we changed our minds about the food place because that pizza was the most divine pizza I have tasted thus far. Puts all the other pizzas I've had to shame. But maybe that's just because I haven't had pizza in 3 and a half weeks haha.
- Yesterday was Fast Sunday (every one of my faith who is able to fasts for 2 meals that day in order to strengthen our spirits, become closer to God, receive answers to our prayers. We do this every first Sunday of the month). Fasting is always so hard for me, and it is especially hard as a missionary because Sundays are your busiest days as a missionary. Very physically demanding stuff we do. Always on the move, always talking to people or knocking on doors. Fasting helps me rely on God because I literally cannot make it through a fast Sunday without praying and asking Heavenly Father to help me. But I made it through yesterday! A miracle.
- I realized everything on this list has to do with food. Glad to know my priorities are in order I guess.
This week, we went to see a member of the Church here in the area we hadn't met yet. She lives way out in the hills, so it was a bit of a struggle trying to find the address she gave us when we set up a time to come see her, but we found her house after one wrong house and a myriad of deer running across the road later. Gotta be careful in them there hills. The great thing about being so far out is that there's hardly any light pollution which means STARS. I don't think I've ever seen so many stars in all my life. We got out of the car to go knock on this lady's door, and I looked up and I stopped breathing for a second. So stunning. I could see part of the milky way no joke. I was like SISTER SMOOT LOOK UP HOLY COWW. Heavenly Father is real. I don't know how anyone could doubt that because there is living proof everywhere. Reminds me of a scripture in the Book of Mormon. Alma 30:44, one of my favorites:
"... The scriptures are laid before the, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and it's motion, yea, and also all the planet's which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator."
When in doubt, look up. This is my challenge to you all this week: Look around you at the beauty. Notice the leaves falling from the trees. Collect them off the ground and press them. Cherish them. They were made for you. They were made to witness to you that there is a God. They were made to fill your life with beauty and wonder and learning because God loves you and He wants you to learn and grow. He created this earth so that you could have experience, so that you could have joy. Fulfill your purpose a little today and do just that--have joy. I love you all from the deepest parts of me. Keep in touch! Send me pictures of you and your beautiful environment!
Love always, Sister Leah Gaush Towanda, PA  The pictures:
1. My one true love. SCHWEBELS.
2. God is real part 1
3. God is real part 2
4. Us on Halloween after we got back home from zone conference feelin PUMPED to do God's work
5. WE DID IT.

Stars of the Garden
Stars of the Garden By Cynthia Brian
“Won’t you come into my garden? I would like my roses to see you.” --Richard Sheridan
It’s only mid-February, yet it feels like spring. As I write this article, the thermometer in the shade reads 71 degrees. The sun is shining, the skies are clear, and it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Historically the average daily temperature in our area for February is 46.4 degrees. I’m accustomed to dreary Februarys, yet this year is full of cheer. Although we still need more rain, I am delighting in this weather as I finish pruning my roses and grapevines.
Roses are the ultimate garden stars, complementing classic and contemporary landscapes. Many varieties are repeat bloomers, extravagantly fragrant, and easy to maintain. The thorns are a nuisance, yet, sometimes we have to endure a bit of pain to savor the pleasure. As I’m pruning, I’m wearing two pairs of thick gloves. The thorns still pierce the leather and I find myself extracting tiny pieces of barbs with tweezers from my fingers after an afternoon amidst these stellar actors.
If you haven’t started or finished your annual heavy pruning, you’ll have about two more weeks to accomplish the task to have blooms by mid-April. Roses anchor a landscape offering unrivaled diversity of colors, shapes, and sizes. From ten-inch miniature roses to twenty-five-foot rambling and climbing roses, there is a variety for every preference. The scents that emanate from these stunners can be musky, fruity, sweet, and indescribably powerful. In our region, once established, roses will bloom a full ten to eleven months as long as they are regularly deadheaded. Although roses prefer a sunny location, shade and even poor soil are tolerated.
It’s best to plant roses from January through May and make sure the root has plenty of space to grow. Re-hydrate bare root roses in a bucket of water before planting. If planting from a quart or gallon container, remove the plant carefully. Sprinkle roots with Mycorrhizal Fungi to stimulate root growth. Place the stems of bare root roses about two inches below the top of the hole, and for a potted rose, position the plant level with the ground. Backfill with the original soil and lightly tap it with your foot. Water deeply. My secret to rose success is to scratch a scoop of alfalfa pellets in the soil around each bush in March. Every morning, I stir my used coffee grounds into a carafe of water to nurture a different rose daily. They love their jolt of java. Feed your roses according to the instructions that you receive when purchasing. Never over-fertilize. Add mulch or compost to retain moisture. Contrary to popular belief, roses are not fussy. Feed, mulch, water, deadhead, and enjoy.
A shining star of the winter garden is the daffodil. Every year daffodils signal that spring is around the corner as they salute the skies with their bright trumpets. Daffodils belong to the genus Narcissus. The over 50 species come in all sizes with colors ranging from the ubiquitous butter yellow to pure white, peach, and combinations of yellow and orange. They are perennials, popping up to surprise us just when we need a boost of encouragement. Many varieties will naturalize when planted in a sunny place with slightly acidic soil and plenty of mulch. The deer and wildlife won’t eat them, so they are great bulbs to plant everywhere the deer and rabbits roam. Bulbs planted in fall are now blooming. There is no need to remove the bulb after the flowers fade. Cut back the stems when the foliage is yellow and potato chip crispy. If you insist on digging out bulbs, wipe the dirt off, store in onion bags or pantyhose, and hang in a cool location. Bulbs require air circulation to survive or they will rot. Many of the smaller daffodils, also called narcissi are very fragrant. They make marvelous cut bouquets brightening any room.
The heart-shaped cyclamen is a tuberous perennial that is honored with garden star status. Shades of pink, red, salmon, and white flowers with silver-marbled leaves adorn winter borders and indoor rooms. Cyclamen require almost zero care and very little water. They go dormant when temperatures rise towards summer and return in glory when winter arrives. When grown outdoors, like the daffodil, when you are least expecting to see a riot of color, the cyclamen unfurls its pretty petals. Hardy cyclamen sold in nurseries are to be planted outdoors. Tropical cyclamen for décor as a houseplant won’t tolerate temperatures above 68 degrees or below 40 degrees.
Our shining garden stars may only twinkle during certain times of the year, yet they are always here. Planting and appreciating them helps us grow into kinder humans. Saunter into the garden to say hello.

 TAKE 15% off all orders of David Austin Roses before March 6, 2020 with CODE UKA at www.DavidAustinRoses.com or call 1-800-328-8893.
 CARE for your trees. With the recent heavy winds, limbs and trees have toppled. Make sure to prune dead branches, mulch to suppress weeds and pest infestations, deep soak when the weather is hot, and protect shallow roots from lawnmowers. Call an arborist for help when in doubt.
 INSPECT lawns for dandelions. When you see the yellow flower, snip it off to avoid the flower going to seed. Dig out the roots if possible but be aware that dandelions have long taproots. Do not put in the compost pile.
 CHECK irrigation systems for broken or damaged pipes. Weeds and lawns often cover sprinkler heads. This is a good time to prepare and repair for spring.
 WATER lawns and gardens as needed. This is the first February in decades that I’ve had to turn on sprinklers. Rain is not forecast until March. Global warming?
 CUT a branch from flowering pear or peach trees to use as an indoor decoration. Pear trees are in full-bloom, peaches are in bud.
 PLANT summer bulbs including gladiolus, cannas, dahlia, and caladium towards the end of the month as the soil dries.
 WALK barefoot on a blanket of soft moss to connect with Nature.

Fresh Apples Add Zing to this Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe
Go on an apple-picking campout to make a side-dish superstar
Kate Dunbar
November 1, 2019
Go on an orchard road trip for a Thanksgiving stuffing side dish.
Fall brings cooler temperatures, changing leaves and, if you’re lucky enough, a trip to the apple farm. From upstate New York to Michigan and Oregon, farmers welcome thousands of people in search of that perfect apple.
When I was in Watertown, New York, I drove along winding fall leaf-covered roads. The brilliant oranges, reds and golden butter-colored leaves had me mesmerized. Wild turkeys fanned their beautiful plumes in the fields, deer grazed on grass and all I wanted was a crisp New York McIntosh apple with its bright white flesh and deliciously sweet taste.
Apples North of the Big Apple
In New York, particularly the Upstate area, multiple apple varieties flourish. The most prized include the Fortune apple, known for its spicy flavor; Ginger Gold one of the best snacking apples; and the Jonamac a perfect cross of a Jonathan and McIntosh apple. New York grows more apple varieties than any other state according to the NY Agriculture Department. With nearly 700 growers and 10 million-plus trees, they produce enough apples each year to bake 500 million apple pies.
When I arrived at the Behling Orchards apple farm I took it all in, families all bundled up and holding apple picking baskets, cups of hot apple cider in their hands and giggles from all the kids excited to be let loose and run among the trees. Suddenly my nose caught a sweet, spicy cinnamon-apple scent. I turned my head toward the main building where this perfect hand made sign said, “follow your nose.” So, what does a glorified foodie do? I followed my nose and inside that sweet little shop was my reward: apple cider donuts. I bought a bag of donut holes and a large cup of apple cider, grabbed my apple basket and set out into the orchard for an adventure. Walking the rows, the scents from the different apple varieties changed with every new turn I took.
Seeing (and tasting) Red
I was looking for Red Rome because it is wonderful for the best brown-sugar-stuffed baked apples. Or the perfect Twenty Ounce apple, a variety created for apple pies because of its size and that it holds its shape when baked. But the complete surprise to me was the Zestar apple, perfectly balanced in the middle of sweet and tart. It was crisp and juicy, had a hint of brown sugar, and it is fantastic for eating, adding to a salad or making bright and flavorful applesauce.
Once my basket was overflowing with my haul, I headed back to Watertown, where I made a delicious cranberry, apple and cornbread dressing to go along with a golden roasted sage and apple stuffed chicken. The tartness of the fresh cranberries blended perfectly with the tang of the day-old sourdough bread. The sautéed onions and aromatics were the perfect complement to the rich corn taste of the day-old cornbread. Layering on all the traditional fall food smells made this meal unforgettable. Additions like rich homemade chicken stock, fresh and flavorful chopped herbs, placing the bread on a sheet pan and toasting it in the oven until the pieces are golden.  All of those extras will add tremendous flavor, help the structure of the dressing while it bakes and deliver one of the richest scents to ever perfume your home.
Apples Make the Meal
The true secret to this dressing lies in those fresh-picked apples. Once you taste an apple picked right off the tree, I promise you, your apple recipes will taste better. The flavors will be bolder, more concentrated and you be supporting a family that loves their fare. Make it a destination, pack up the family find a campground near an apple farm or two create memories in and around those rows. Then journey home to create new food memories surrounding your time in the orchard picking apples. I can not wait to return to another apple farm but this time I would like to enjoy it with my family. Here are a few u-pick apple farms scattered all across the US for you to enjoy. Try to find the ones that offer fresh-pressed apple cider and those melt in your mouth, sugar and cinnamon dusted cider donuts.
