Prelude EF Tales: Recollection
You will never go silently, you will never let them win.
Darkness surrounds you, consumes you, it’s all you know. The tenure of your spiritual imprisonment has gone on for untold years, the time stretching onto meaningless nothing.
Light is sparse in this realm, as are your memories of your life before. You recall flashes, brief glimpses of conquests beyond, of battles won and gods beaten. You lived a storied life, a life of supreme importance and worth. Death has not robbed you of your pride.
Rage burns within you, screaming hotter than molten supernova. The last vestige of the man you used to be. It’s an insatiable hunger, clawing at the edges of your formless spirit. It pounds against your mind, bringing forth the images of those who wronged you. They forced you to become this monster, they refused to submit--you were only doing what you had to, what any good leader would’ve done.
They needed to be kept in line, you had to teach them their place.
There’s always a hero, there’s always a princess. You know their faces better than that of your family, a fact that only infuriates you further into insanity. You remember the fear upon seeing the forest child wield the sword of evil’s bane, and how close he’d gotten to killing you.
You remember the feeling of breaking his bone under your god-like strength, the cold stare he gave as you impaled your blades through his heart. He wasn’t afraid of you, the only person to see you for who you truly were.
And that was terrifying.
Not that you would ever admit that, to yourself or others. It would be unbefitting of a king, unbefitting of the true heir to hyrule. The era following your defeat did not treat you kindly, the petty impulses of your lowest moments becoming common as you plotted to break the seal placed over you.
You broke out again, having overthrown the damned royals again. Victory was so close, the sacrifice of the maidens guaranteed, the defenders of yore dead and gone. There was no one to stop you.
Except for the hero.
It was a different boy, a different era, but you recognized him just as well. He carried the blade of evil’s bane, and fought without fear. You were slain at the height of your power, the entire triforce within your grasp. You were like a god, but even gods can die.
You were dead, but not for long. You’d returned again, the sacrifice of your mothers fueling a blundered revival, intelligence stripped clean from your primal mind. The same boy met you again, butchering you like an animal. You can still hear your screams.
Death had become temporary, a period of waiting until the next resurrection. You returned countless times, always at the culmination of some new crisis. You would bring the kingdom of hyrule to its knees more times than history liked to count, and each time there would be a hero to stop you.
They would arise at the hour of Hyrule's destruction, preventing the victory you’d so rightfully earned all those millennia ago. You recall each of them well, harboring a hatred unique to each insufferable brat, each infuriating in their own way.
The realmwalker had taken advantage of your fused form, that lorulean artisan dragging your strength down with his naive magics--a fair fight would’ve gone differently, you’re sure. Much the same could be said about the two that followed, the heroes stricken from the histories of the land they held so dear; You take glee in knowing that.
They were warriors; the gladiator and the berserker, a part of you respected that defeat more than the others. You hated them to hell eternal, but you couldn’t deny their strength--a trait you hold more dear than anything.
The last of the hero kind, the ilk of travels beyond and far was a shameful loss like no other-- a sign of what you’ve lost in these long years of warring gods and kingdoms. He was a wayward soul, untrained and naive; somehow capable of slaying you to ashes on the wind.
Centuries have passed since your last defeat, and you scheme all the same. Your damages cast a long shadow over your schemes, fueling delusions more grandiose and cruel than ever before.
You are willing to do anything to secure your place as victor, as herald of an extinction millennia in the making. The measures taken to secure the long winter have been drastic, more sacrificial to your spirit than any cut flesh or spilt blood.
The hues of your heart split at the seams, and your emotions fragment once again. The lack of them clears your mind, the hollow space left in their absence filled with nothing but the same homicidal anger--the same drive to slaughter and exterminate the bloodlines of those that dared oppose you.
You feel the anger boil and freeze under non-existent veins, the power inherent to you forming the footfalls of a new dark age, of a winter eternal and undying. A reflection of your changed self.
Most of all; You foresee the victories that the vile slew of frost and snow will win in your name. Over and over.
Forever.
---- Author's note: Hi! This is Kovacs talking here. I hope you liked this, I write alot of one shots and blurbs for eternal frost. Some are related to the core folks, some are offbeat. Hyrule is a busy place!
ANYWAY--I thought this was decent enough to show on the main blog!

It’s gonna be a rough read…
Scene Start:
“Hit the Road Jack” plays. Either original Ray Charles version or 2WEI/Bri Bryant cover.
with extra static/dramatic fade in and out when necessary.
“Jack”-Keanu Reeves or Lee Byung-hun, though I originally imagined the live action version as ole man Jackie Chan. Anime version would look like Guts(Berserk) and Han Chun-Woo(The Breaker) mashed together. Big man. Very scary.
Alexei Everton-Anya Taylor-Joy or Erin Moriarty. Or a Jennifer Lawrence type. Anime version is similar to the main gal from The Ancient Magus’ Bride. Not in temperament, just appearance.
Naomi Safyan-Zendaya. Zendaya as a Satyr in anime form. Anime version would be Zazie(Battle Angel Alita:Last Order).
the closest aesthetically accurate visual reps.
There he stood, at the end of the cheery little winding pathway that he himself had lined with white and purple lilacs, on either side. Just like so many other times she had returned home to his wondrously warm embrace. A caring and kind smile on his usually frowning face, as he eagerly awaited tales of her “adventures”. Although she would have to be extremely hard pressed in order to admit it, she too was always brimming with joy at the thought of sarcastically regaling him with stories of her most recent trials and tribulations.
There he stood, smiling sadly at the end of the path, drenched in blood and viscera.
It took her brain a moment to fully comprehend what she was looking at. To really digest it. Then the foul stench of the dead reached her, causing her stomach to twist and knot up. Her heart was racing as she just stood there, mouth agape, staring into his suddenly cold, black eyes.
He took a step towards her.
She took a step back.
They didn’t break eye contact till then, when his eyes drifted down to her hand resting on the sword at her hip, thumb on the hilt guard.
She had never been able to hurt him. She used to scream and throw things at him when she was young, when he had first pulled her from Junker’s Canyon all those years ago. He would grumble like some towering, mildly irritated gorilla, but never lift a finger to stop her. Then, when she calmed down, as if by magic he’d have made soup and tea. He’d sit her down and ask her what was really eating her up inside. Never once did he look even remotely troubled by her outbursts.
That single step backwards she took might as well have been a dagger through his kidney. The wince and the way his brow furrowed, like he realized he’d just lost what was most precious to him.
“What happened?” She questioned softly, in a tone she usually reserved for drunks and brigands. “What’d you do?”
“What I had to.” He grunted back, in that raspy voice he had. Made every word sound like a struggle. She used to laugh and poke fun at him for it. Now it set her on edge.
“A non-answer.” She sighed, “why don’t we go inside and talk about it, old timer?” It was more a statement than a question and a failed attempt at levity. She shivered, even though it was a warm, mid spring day.
“Don’t think that’s smart, Al.” He rasped as he checked what she now realized was a firearm in his right hand. Her eyes widened in horror.
Guns. The favored weapon of Earthborn soldiers. Of Deathmarch Troopers. Of Gebians. The thoughts and realizations flooded her mind with too much speed, her heart beating furiously now. Gebians are the sworn enemies of The Tellustrian Republic. The monsters from another world that had ravaged her land and murdered her parents. My father’s sworn…
Reality struck her like a brick to the head.
Guess she had always seen the signs. Certain slang he used and mannerisms he had. Thought he was just from another Tellustrian world, not that hellhole they call Gebia.
“Why are you using illegal weap-“ she was suddenly and jarringly cut off as she felt every muscle in her body seize up at once. A basic paralyzing cypher followed quickly by a dagger to her throat. The man spoke as his body became visible, as if he were being painted back into existence, the circular glyphs on his cloak glowing and smoking from overuse.
“Now I don’t want no undue fussin’, Mista Dog. Or does ya prefer Jaaack? Rabid Jack! Bit catchy, ain’t it?” He trailed off for a couple seconds, as if his mind drifted somewhere else, then snapped back to reality, “I’ve seen wat you can do to a man and I ain’t interested ‘n joinin ya long list o’ victims…”
She could feel his hot, oily breath on the nape of her neck. He smelled rancid. The smell of Aether Rot, from overuse of potions and elixirs.
Shut it out, ya bloody brainless wench. She thought at her herself harshly. I didn’t go through all that hellish training just to get offed by this dumbass. I have to focus. She breathed in deeply, suddenly serene. She visualized being a piece of flotsam on the open ocean, simply carried by the waves.
“Like having one foot in the ocean of spirits,” Jack had described it once upon a time “the other on solid ground”
With that, she Drifted. Her soul halfway between the realm of spirits and the physical realm, acting as a conduit. She was woven into the cosmic tapestry now, one with every spirit around her. Only a second after she finished breathing in, her eyelids flung open and revealed her now glowing, green eyes.
She immediately expelled all foreign Aether from her body and commanded her muscles to relax. She felt the burn as the spiritual command reverberated through her body, echoed by millions of nearby spirits. It felt sort of like a downed drought of Dwarven FafniPeaks Whiskey, you could feel it blazing down your gullet and all the way though your innards. Felt the burn in every cell of her body. Nearby spirits, like tiny particles of dust made of pure light, magnetized towards her. Maximal Leistung. My technique. Jack’s technique. For the next split second, Alexei’s body would function at it’s absolute physical peak, her spiritual command overriding her physical limitations.
“…U’ll a-ask one more taime since apparently ya deaf, where’s the GODSDAMNED SATY-“
Her assailant was rudely interrupted when his nose cracked viciously to the side, very much broken. In the same split second motion as her headbutt’s recoil, Alexei pulled her chin in and open her mouth wide. To the growing horror of her assailant, her teeth clamped down with crocodilian strength on his dagger wielding wrist, shattering bone. With her left arm she delivered a series of rapid, armored elbow strikes to his ribs. Her right foot lashed out suddenly, kicking another dagger out of his other hand. All this while pivoting in place, wrist still firmly held in her maw, forcing the would be hostage taker to lurch awkwardly in time with her movements. It was as if it was all happening in slow motion from Alexei’s perspective, so she saw a third arm reach out of a pocket in the man’s cloak, fueled by his Aether. It pointed a tiny hand ballista at her, the venomous cyphers within the bolts cackling out evilly in her spiritually sensitive ears.
It never got the chance to fire. Her right arm moved like lightning, sending her elvish broadsword in a screeching arc through the assailant’s abdomen and slicing the adjacent third arm’s hand clean off.
The brown eyes around his fully healed nose bulged in disbelief and anger as his intestines spilled out.
Wait. What!? She watched his nose rapidly shift back into place, bone and cartilage squirming beneath the skin, repairing themselves. A regeneration potion, but when did he-
She felt the reverberating echo shift the spirits around her, causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand on end, right before she heard the axe flying from the woods towards her. She spun and swung her sword in a semicircle, separating the hand in her mouth from its arm with a clean slash. She then nimbly sidestepped the thrown handaxe, noticing the glowing, spinning glyph on the carved bone blade. It spun past her like a cannonball, shattering the tree to her left unnaturally, like glass. Her reprieve was short though, as a hundred or so hail pellets rained down upon her and Jack, conveniently missing the now three assailants.
The first one’s invisible again.
Everything the pellets touched turned to liquified sludge. She weaved a precarious dance through the hail and sludge, filling herself with a repulsion echo. The spirits around her obeyed the echo, repelling nearby Aether and dispelling any pellets that got too close to Alexei. Her soul was nearly burnt out.
I need to stop overusing spiritual techniques. She thought as she took another deep breath.
In front of her was a large Vavoxi warrior emerging from the woods, a large grin spread across their pallid, bald head. The sneer showed off the Vavoxi’s bristling baleen that they had instead of teeth.
Kinda like they got two well used brushes crammed in their mouth.
Living tattoos churned across their pale skin, the magical blue ink depicting the many battles they’d been in.
Jack was fending off a knight clad in full pitch black plate armor who had descended from the sky on giant bat wings, swinging a massive claymore around wildly.
What in Hel’s thrice cursed name is going on!? Alexei fought back panic as she tried to cope with the chaos unfolding around her, on the very land where she’d grown up in relative peace.
“HiYa EVERYONE! Don’t mean to interrupt, but I need a BIG, STROOONG man to help me open this jar o’ pickles!”
Everyone but Jack turned silently to look at the jovial and beautiful Satyr woman leaning awkwardly against a nearby tree in an overdramatic attempt to be alluring. Comedic, perhaps? She was indeed holding a jar of pickles.
The cyphered portion of her brain alerted her that something was amiss, her inner Aether rejecting the subliminal enchantment woven into the words coming out of the Satyr’s mouth. The black knight was not so resistant, whatever mistake he made in that moment costing his life as he detonated, chunks of black armor and charred flesh spewing forth in every direction.
Jack was nowhere to be seen.
Her opponent had also resisted the enchantment, their fully black eyes emitting a neon glow of sorts. The Vavoxi began their ancestral dance, spinning a cyphsteel battleaxe in arc after arc, displaying the techniques of their people.
“You look stupid.” Alexei stated bluntly.
The Vavoxi’s eyelids and brow shot up in dismay and rage. Alexei took this moment to draw her duelist’s wand from its hip holster and fire immediately. An icy beam shot forth from its crystal tip, leaving a trail of snowflakes in it’s wake and freezing the Vavoxi’s chest plate. Another one of those bristly grins appeared as a cypher shield dispersed the frost across it’s translucent surface. They rushed her then, clearing half the 60 foot distance in a single bound, battleaxe raised and churning with latent Aether. She calmly chucked up her sword and used the now empty hand to palm the wand’s glyph turbine, rotating the ingredient-packed chambers one to the left. The Vavoxi’s eyes widened in horror this time, as a blood red fireball spewed forth from the wand.
Somethin’ ‘bout fire and ice in quick succession, magic shields can’t handle it. More of Jack’s “wisdom”.
The explosion was deafening. The Vavoxi was no more. Ironically, pieces of the cypher shield remained floating in place, until they realized there was no body left within to protect and melted away. Her wand was already holstered, her right hand lifted to catch her sword.
She took another deep breath.
Fledermauspfeife. Releasing a pent up echo from her core, she watched as the spirits around her reverberated along with her, dancing wildly in tune to her heartbeat. There was one patch that didn’t echo back. She heard the bubbling, cackling whispers of hungry Aether.
There you are.
She shot forth like a bullet for the tree line, ricocheting off tree trunks in massive bounds. She spiraled as she flew, her pauldrons and secondary cuirass flipping open and releasing liquid bronze plumes from her shoulder blades. The plumes solidified suddenly and flattened into bronze dragonfly wings, the whirlwind generated by their frightfully fast beating enough to snap a nearby sapling in half. She soared straight up, propelled by her armor ornithopter’s highly maneuverable vesper wings, breaching the forest’s ceiling in a split second. It took years of practice to mentally and physically control the ornithopter’s functionality.
Probably the only thing that gives me an edge in the Guilds’ community. She thought, dourly.
She could make out the barely visible form of her original assailant, floating above the Satyr with a rope. Could hear the nearby spirits echo his fear.
He fled.
Floating speedily away on some sort of invisible disc.
She aimed her left gauntlet at him and channeled a fraction of her inner Aether through that arm to it. The bluish, cyphsteel plates detached from the leather components of the gauntlet, flying towards her adversary. As they flew through the air, they left a purple haze behind them, filled with stardust. The plates morphed and grew as they flew, turning into a rather vicious looking set of crimson dragon claws.
“GODS NO! PLEASE NO!” The man screamed as the claws wrapped around his right calf, dragging him back towards her.
“So I’m gonna ask you a series of reasonable questions now and you’re going to be a good sport and answer them. Right?” Alexei’s lighthearted tone did not match her steely gaze. The greasy half-elf bored holes through her with his spiteful eyes.
“You look sick.” She said then, with some small amount of genuine concern. Alexei had lost friends to potion overdose. She knew for a fact there were fates worse than death when you let the aberrant mutations take hold in your body. “How’s about we go see an apothecary. Together. Eh?”
He was looking down now, his hateful eyes locked on the Satyr. She smiled and waved up at him, two more of his dead companions at her hooves.
Then he looked up and made her heart sink.
“Dead. Owr awloive, they says…” his smile then was purely malicious.
His cloak fluttered up suddenly. Unnaturally. A myriad of different appendages sprouted from his back, all of them somewhere between arms and tentacles.
A morphhead.
The appendages all did their best to frantically draw a variety of projectile-based weapons from his cloak pockets. Even illegal Gebian guns. Half aimed at the Satyr, half at her.
They never got the chance to fire. She had already delivered a lightning infused, crescent shaped slash starting at his right kidney and ending at his left collarbone. His magic shield shattered afterwards, the elven plasma blade having cut cleanly through it, his spirit, and his flesh and bone.
As if they were butter.
Simply by lacerating so many of his vital organs at once and electrocuting him, she overloaded his brain. His brain would have to reboot in order to restart the magical regeneration process, which was unlikely now.
She closed her eyes and whispered a prayer as she felt his soul leave the physical realm. Then she stopped Drifting. The wave of exhaustion was always overwhelming, but she was used to it and played it off well. Just like her father.
“OOOOLD MAAAAAN!!!” She shouted as she landed jankily on the mushy ground. She stared at the Satyr suspiciously.
“Wha? Is it cuz I’m a Satyr.” She said, feigning insult and pouting to boot.
“No. It’s because you’re a bard. I hate bards.”
Alexei’s eyes could’ve frozen a frost giant’s heart.
“The name’s Naomi! Naomi Safran.” Naomi said with an outstretched hand. “pleasure to make the acquaintance of my dear protector’s daughter, to be sure.”
There was a flicker of admiration in Naomi’s eyes, as she looked Alexei up and down. Alexei moved in for the shake, but passed her hand, clasping her arm instead.
“Sorry, I don’t do handshakes anymore. Personal reasons.” Alexei said, throttling Naomi’s arm with a bit too hearty an arm clasp.
Naomi raised an eyebrow and smirked.
“Ooooh? Spicy. I like it.”
“Where’s the old man?”
“Dunno. Last I saw he was trying to shoot a wizard outa the sky. Lost track of ‘im.” Naomi said with a nonchalant shrug.
A moment of awkward silence followed. “Sooo, what exactly IS the nature of your relatio-“
She felt the dart prick her lower nape. In a panic, she tried to Drift again, but it was already too late. Gebian dreadroot. Dampens spiritual conductivity. Puts you to sleep.
‘MSorry. Al,” he caught her in his burly arms as she fell backwards. “Things’re. Bout ta get ugly.” He rasped, the jagged scar on his face and neck smoldering ever so slightly.
“A wound left by a holy weapon is ordained to remain by the gods themselves. It can never be healed and will always sting, to remind the sinner what happens when you let pride blind your actions…”
Self-righteous words from a worthless man.
“Can’t have you. Mixed up in.” Jack looked around, practically growling, “all this.”
She reached out to touch the burning scar. Just like when she was a kid and he’d fall asleep in his chair on the porch. His nightmares would make the scar burn an ugly red.
Like pipe embers, ‘bout to go out.
Then there was blackness.
Then there was.
The void.
Rabid Dog
The most grizzled man you’ve ever seen. Black hair, grey eyes sunk from lack of sleep, and a jagged scar that cuts straight through his lips on the right side, making it look like he is constantly snarling at something. His dull, icy thousand-yard stare informs you that it’s the world he’s snarling at.
Everyone.
Everything.
His brow seems perpetually crumpled, a combination of some splotchy burn scars that had took chunks of his eyebrows with them and his permanent scowl.
“The kind of look a man gets when he realizes his dog has just passed. That’s his face all the time”, The local villagers would often say of him.
A piece of his right ear is missing, lookin’ scarily like someone or something had took a bite out of it. All topped off with a bristling 5 o’clock shadow and a peppering of grey hairs spread throughout his pitch black fade. This all combined with the fact that he was six foot, seven inches and about 300 pounds of pure muscle. His size seemed almost unnatural, as if his
That was Jack. No last name. No past.
At least, that’s the only name the locals had ever known him as. He had appeared one day and taken up residence with ole’ man Herman, acting as a farmhand and shepherd for the crazy old lune.
Most assumed he was a foot soldier that had defected from his Lord, on the run. He acted too stoic and soldierly to be a bandit. Perhaps it was because many of the villagers had lost sons and daughters to the War, but many of them simply accepted “Jack” into their midst, no questions asked. A sort of simple understanding amongst the elder folk that, if any of their children had managed to escape a pointless death for an uncaring Lord, they would all keep their mouths shut.
Over time he developed quite a stirling reputation as a standup, though somewhat grumpy, fellow and a real jack of all trades. Patching clothes, thatching rooftops, catching thieves and all without any request for payment. He would always simply ask what they needed of him, do it without question or feedback, and then head back to Herman’s farm without a word afterwards. What really won peoples hearts was when he decided to take care of some local orphans who lived in a junk pit just to the east of the village. Some Guild Slayers had been clearing Vulture’s Ravine of Trolls and scavenger bandits, when they stumbled upon a ragtag group of children who’s parents had presumably been killed in the Great War. The Slayers had taken the children alive, despite the fact that they were affiliated with one of the Ravines bandit troupes, and were bringing them

share ten different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then send this to 10 people (anon or not, your choice) 🎥🎬📺
1.) Cisco Ramon - the Flash
The bestest, kindest, funniest, and smartest person on the show. He was the heart of Team Flash and it's not the same without him. He's loyal and loves his friends dearly. And, well, he's just so much fun and easy to relate to and gnc and I adore this guy. He'd be sooo much fun to be best friends with.
2.) Zelos Wilder - Tales of Symphonia
He flirts like breathing but it's a cover for his insecurities and the ptsd that comes with growing up as the Chosen One who might have to die for the world one day and also his parents hated him. Once he finally joins up with the party, that's the first time he's had real friends and it's a bit heart breaking really. He's also super queer coded and will flirt with the main character (Lloyd Irving).
3.) Estellise "Estelle" Sidos Heurassein - Tales of Vesperia
Fiesty, pink haired princess who is so awesome I named my dog after her. Will break a vase over a guy's head if feels threatened. But will also pick up a sword and kick ass with it too.
4.) Velvet Crowe - Tales of Berseria
The berserker for whom the game is named and also the main character, Velvet Crowe is on a roaring rampage of revenge against her brother-in-law and there will be murder when she's through. Soft spots include the small child she accidentally kidnaps, a certain cry-baby exorcist, an annoying witch and her familiar, an earth-spirit pirate who can't swim, and a war deamon who learns the hard way yak breath is gross.
5.) Leonard Snart - The Flash & Legends of Tomorrow
Master Thief who enjoys being a supervillain a little too much. Has a soft spot he does not want to admit exists for Barry Allen and a soft spot he's reluctantly okay admitting to for his sister. Actually hesitates to kill Barry when his sister's life is on the line. Goes with the Legends to figure out who he is after killing his own dad and winds up sacrificing himself not for the crew, but for Mick. A distinction the rest of the Legends inconveniently and immediately ignore.
6.) Yuri Lowell - Tales of Vesperia
A former knight who quit after three months when he realized the organization was too corrupt and a bad fit for him. Kills bad guys to the consternation of his best friend (Sir Flynn Scifo) who is a genuine good knight in a sea of shitty ones. Accidentally winds up in a position to stop two wars and also save the planet from an eldritch abomination of their ancestors accidental creation. Mostly because he's now also best friends with Estelle - together their trouble magnetism is legendary. (Flynn would like them to stop that now. Why can't his friends just stay safe for ten minutes?)
7.) Keladry of Mindelan - Protector of the Small
The second lady knight of modern Tortall, Keladry quickly learns as a page that she is held to higher standards than her peers by people who want her to fail solely for being a girl. So she digs in her heels and surpasses those standards anyway.
8.) Rosella of Daventry - King's Quest
A princess who has had much adventure in her life and enjoys it. Helps people where ever she goes and this time it's the princess rescuing the prince from danger. Twice. She also stops a volcano from erupting, turns an evil fairy into a baby, and saves her own father from death.
9.) Hiccup - How to Train Your Dragon
Disabled badass with a dragon who is also a disabled badass. Together they bridge the gap between dragons and vikings and make Berk a safe home for both to live. Hiccup dares to be himself when no one wants him to be and it turns out that him being himself is exactly what everyone needed most.
10.) Milla Maxwell - Tales of Xillia
Lord of Spirits who might drool a bit when she's hungry and there is something tasty smelling nearby. She's a total badass, a bit naive, and cares very much about making a better world for human and spirits alike.
I'm gonna skip sending this to ask boxes and instead invite anyone to participate who wants to.

ILLEGIBLE’S TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE FAVORITE EORZEA COLLECTION DESIGNS: FEMALE
I’ve mentioned in the past, the main thing that made me start playing FFXIV properly was seeing people’s character designs. I’m still honestly blown away by the creativity and range of approaches people bring to this game, so I’ve decided to be an absolute madwoman and break my favorites into subcategories to share with anyone curious.
And to be clear. I’m not going to do something so broad as “oh top ten in-general :3″ because that would be sensible. No, I’m going to do it for all the current combat jobs. And all the current races. And different genders within the races and combat jobs as things stand. And I’m going to make a face-focus subcategory. And there are gonna be LOTS. Because I seriously cannot understate how inspired I’ve been by this community, and after however many years I just feel the need to vomit some incredible visuals I’ve encountered at you guys lol.
NOTE: In an abundance of caution, I want to stress this list isn’t a value judgment on anyone but a fragment of things that blew me personally away. Looking at the DRK sections it will be immediately clear that I Illegible really like that edgy dark knight aesthetic lmao, but there are plenty of non-edgy dark knights that I also love to bits. Other people might not like edgy dark knights. Due to a combination of size and search constraints plus trying to keep gear somewhat varied, these glamours are just what wound up on this particular list of mine. I could make another list one day. Other people can make lists too that are totally different.
Also, I was originally going to make a single post that went over male and female options presented in the character creator but straight up tumblr wouldn’t let me save because it got too big. You can see the male character post here.
Without further ado, let us begin.

Commonplace Mastery: Second Shell
Roughly a sixth of the people of the Second Shell are crafters of various kinds. Masons, Joiners, Blacksmiths, Whitesmiths, Bowyers, Craters-and-Coopers, Cobblers-and-Cordwainers, Tailors, Furriers, Brewers, Bakers, Cartwrights, Shipwrights. About half of them pick up two related specialties - A cabinetmaker might also be a cartwright or a cooper, and a cobbler also a tailor or furrier. A third of crafters instead have farming (or less commonly, fishing or simple hunting) as their second skill instead of another craft. The remaining sixth of the sixth have two unrelated specialties, or know the basics of an adventuring or criminal profession. By our standards, even the journeyman are master craftsmen, able to make extraordinary work regularly. Barrels which are airtight moments after creation, stone roads where a wheel could ride a mile and feel no bump between any stone and the next. When the truly skilled can concentrate, or just work together with their peers, what can they make? Things that last for centuries, commonly.
Masons: the good roads were made hundreds or thousands of years ago and look like new. They suffer no wear and tear - it's virtually impossible to damage them except on purpose. When a powerful king or priest pays for it, they may build towers six hundred feet tall with brick and mortar, which withstand the winds and wars for decades - though usually not centuries, as they cannot hold back a dragon. (Wizards generally build their own towers, secured with magic, though the sensible among them still employ a fine mason to assist.) The finest walls and castles are less magnificent in scale, but often can stop dragonfire.
Joiners: Doors which can stop a charging bull, cabinets which repel pests, or in the very greatest cases, ones which have more space inside than out, folding boxes which can be stored at a quarter their size and still be water-tight when opened.
Blacksmiths: Shackles which can hold a ghost, swords which find their mark unbidden, horseshoes which never wear and never let the horse lame. Knives and arrowheads that never dull, plate armor that moves like leather. Blacksmithery is both the most fabled of crafts, through its swords, blades, and weapons, and the most unassuming, as the most common feature of masterful blacksmithery is something that simply will not break, even if it had an army trying.
Whitesmiths: Workers in tin, gold, silver, and other pliable metals, intricate marvels are a signature of the master whitesmith. One of the most famous creations was the bell-box of Helorion, which if opened a crack and whispered into would hold the sound inside until the next time it was opened, whispering the message in the speaker's own voice. Jewlery is a common medium for master whitesmiths, and fine engraved panels which have more apparent depth than they could fit, or which serve as powerful aids to memory about the state of the location pictured.
Bowyers: Virtually all bowyers also are fletchers, and masters are known for crafting bows with the flexible draw of a composite bow from a single piece, making arrows which fly straight and true despite strange special additions which allow them to trip, drag, or disorient those hit, and make the true greatbows which can fire nearly as far as a man can see.
Craters and Coopers: The ordinary masterwork for a cooper is to make airtight barrels and crates, but true masters can make them so tight that even time itself can only penetrate weakly; when the lid is sealed on, even raw meat will have barely aged even if opened a year later. Other tuns commissioned by brewers make the ale or spirits inside age much faster while leaving the angel's share no larger. And of course ordinary durability for things packaged for long and stormy voyages is popular.
Cobblers: Many master's boots cushion the feet so well that even if they walk a dozen miles soaked, there will not be a single blister or sore on the feet. Others making softer shoes find they slowly heal scabs and sores from the past, clean the feet and leave them healthy, even with flat feet or turned toes slowly healing to the proper shape. Some help their wearers dance, never misplacing a step, or to run through a dark wood without a trip or sprain.
Tailors: The most common features of a master's tailoring are pockets deeper and more secure than an ordinary crafter, and clothes so wondrously beautiful that they shape the view like an illusion. Certainly anything a king wears, when it is not for war, will shift its appearance in the light, seeming to move like a live thing.
Furriers: The finest works of master furriers have the same beauty of a master tailor, in many cases. More practical masterworks usually focus on the warmth and comfort of fur, managing to preserve the wearer in the cold while being no worse than a bare body in great heat, or even to assist in both heat and cold.
Brewers: Perhaps the second most legendary of masters, after the smith, fine ales, wines, and spirits can conjure to mind very specific memories, nostalgia, camaraderie, or other such mental motions. They may restore the drinker to health, wake the recently dead, induce the pain-free frenzy of a berserker, or do any of a great many things for the body. Darker tales say an evil master brewer may make a drink which is pleasant to all except one, who finds it deadly poison.
Bakers: While less notorious, master bakers have many of the same tales told of them as are of brewers. Bread which heals the wounds, strengthens the body, brings those who break it together in fellowship, sustains over a heinous journey, or recalls distant days as if they were now.
Cartwrights: One of the most visible products of master crafters in most people's life is a wandering cart; these roll back and forth along the roads connection a town to its villages, not losing speed when boarded, without a horse to pull them. The standard wandering cart is lightly enchanted by a spellcaster, providing a slight motive force that speeds it up each time it turns around, but the fundamental device is a master cartwright's work in most places. (Wizards occasionally duplicate the effect purely with magic, but they are rarer and their time precious.) Other carts may have impossibly gentle rides even on rough terrain - common for coaches - or keep heat in or out preternaturally well.
Shipwrights: Ships which cut through the water like an arrow in flight are the most common request of master shipwrights, as well as durable ships which withstand fire and monster attacks. Some are crafted for great merchants with the ability to keep all their contents stable despite high seas. Master ships like these are usually sailed for centuries, as the coordination required to make them arises only every few decades, even in the biggest shipbuilding ports.

RECS: Want to Watch Old Anime? Discotek Has You Covered
Every anime season brings a new roster of hits, but the shows of the past recede into the distance. Certainly, there are some exceptions and niche fans keep the spirit of ongoing series like Gundam alive. But with the continued emphasis on new and exciting anime, it’s tempting to forget the multitude of great shows and movies that already exist.   The Discotek label has fought consistently over the past several years to ensure that anime’s past is preserved. Run by industry stalwarts, they’ve done the impossible time and time again: they tracked down the masters of cult OVA Project A-Ko, painstakingly restored the 2001 remake of Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier from thousands of damaged tapes, and much of their best stuff is now available for streaming.
  If you’re looking for something a little different or simply looking for a new show to watch, why not travel back into anime’s past? Here are some great TV series and movies as enjoyable today as they were when they were produced.
  These are just my own recommendations, picked from the great sea of Discotek titles. But if you want to explore further, and check out titles including real-life inspiration on Yoko Taro, Sister Princess, you can find their shared Crunchyroll catalog list here.
  Note: The titles listed are largely only available in the United States and Canada.
  Movie Night
  Urusei Yatsura Movie 2: Beautiful Dreamer
Tumblr media
    One of the best-known anime directors ever, Mamoru Oshii first made his mark with an outrageously popular animated sitcom: Urusei Yatsura, the series that put the queen of romantic comedy manga Rumiko Takahashi on the map. Oshii struck a balance throughout the TV series between hilarious comedy and experimentation, but it was in the second Urusei Yatsura film, Beautiful Dreamer, that he really went all out. This surreal time loop story keeps finding new ways to defy audience expectations throughout its runtime both as an atypical Urusei Yatsura tale as well as a sterling example of just how imaginative and ground-breaking the Urusei Yatsura anime could be at its best.
  GoShogun: The Time Etranger
Tumblr media
    GoShogun: The Time Etranger is that classic anime standby: a film completely different in tone and content than the franchise that spawned it. Released four years after the original 1981 super robot series, The Time Etranger spends much of its runtime focused on the dreams and anxieties of sole female cast member Remy as she lies in a coma at the hospital. Examining “what happens after” a final super robot fight, it remains an enjoyable film with smarter writing than you’d expect.  The Time Etranger is also a notable favorite of the great 80sanime Tumblr.
  Night on the Galactic Railroad
Tumblr media
    Kenji Miyazawa’s novel Night on the Galactic Railroad might be best known to English-speaking audiences as a reference point for anime like Mawaru Penguindrum and Galaxy Express 999, but in truth, it’s one of the most beloved Japanese children’s stories ever written. An anime film adaptation was released in 1985, directed by the famed Gisaburo Sugii and scored by Yellow Magic Orchestra member Haruomi Hosono. Also, the characters are all drawn as cats! While slow-paced, it’s a strong adaptation that captures the charming and whimsical spirit of the original novel.
  Other Discotek movie recommendations:
All the other 6 Urusei Yatsura movies
Jin Roh
Like the Clouds, Like the Wind
Ringing Bell
  Mecha
  Giant Gorg
Tumblr media
    Folks talk up director Yoshiyuki Tomino as the key creative force behind the original Gundam. But don’t forget Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the talented character designer behind both Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam. His most personal anime project is Giant Gorg, the story of a young boy who stumbles across a giant robot on a mysterious island. Rather than a Gundam-style war narrative, Giant Gorg is a proper adventure story in which the young cast spring from cliffhanger to cliffhanger. A white whale in American anime fandom for years, it was finally licensed for distribution in the United States in 2015. Don’t forget this fantastic mash-up between the Giant Gorg OP and the Perfect Strangers theme!
youtube
    Mazinger Edition Z
Tumblr media
    In Mazinger Edition Z, cult-favorite director Yasuhiro Imagawa reimagines Go Nagai’s classic robot series to create a unified setting packed with pulpy thrills and conspiracies: The giant robot Mazinger has a past history involving the Greek god Zeus! The villain Baron Ashura is recontextualized as a deeply tragic villain with the best story arc in the series! We’re even given Tsubasa Nishikori, a Go Nagai staple who here becomes Imagawa’s best-written female character!
  Mazinger Z is absolutely suffused with the spirit that made Imagawa’s earlier masterpiece Giant Robo so beloved and is an essential watch for any fan of that series. Not to mention that it ends with a cliffhanger brutal enough to make Go Nagai jealous.
  Other Discotek mech recommendations:
Dai-Guard
Gunbuster 2
Tetsujin 28
  Comedy
  Cromartie High School
Tumblr media
    Anime comedies speak to the time that they were made, but there’s something uniquely timeless about Cromartie High School. You could say the show is funny because it’s set in a high school whose roster of delinquents includes a robot, Freddie Mercury, and a gorilla. But I think it goes even further than that: Cromartie High School is funny because its rowdy delinquents live lives just as boring as our own. When I watch Cromartie High School, I think not “what weirdos!” but “same, bro.” True in 2003, true in 2021.
  Other Discotek comedy recommendations:
Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan
Cat Girl Nuku Nuku
Golden Boy
Samurai Pizza Cats
  Drama
  Key the Metal Idol
Tumblr media
    Key the Metal Idol is a truly weird series. Directed and written by Hiroaki Sato, one of three animation directors who brought anime film masterpiece Akira to life, it’s the story of an android tasked by her creator to become human by making 30,000 friends. It’s a series that skewers the entertainment industry but is also loaded down with science fiction exposition. It’s a series that’s deeply in love with the work of David Lynch. Key the Metal Idol is flawed and idiosyncratic, but it’s also a genre-busting original far ahead of its time. And the opening credit sequence rules.
  The Twelve Kingdoms
Tumblr media
    Fantasy anime are a dime a dozen these days, but for my money, no recent title comes close to The Twelve Kingdoms. The series has its share of magical creatures, epic duels, and even more elaborate fantasy worldbuilding than you can shake a sword at. But most of all, it’s a story about people and growth. Twelve Kingdoms puts its cast of scared teenagers in a crucible and subjects them to intense pressure until those teenagers realize, to their shock and genuine awe, that they can handle anything the world throws at them. Twelve Kingdoms deserves consideration along with Berserk as one of the greatest works of epic fantasy that animation has to offer.
  Other Discotek drama recommendations:
Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting!
Honey and Clover
Kaiba
True Tears

Blind
Warning: Sky angst.
Also, 7K words.
I own nothing but my writing. Linked Universe belongs only to Linked Universe and Jojo56830!
~~~~~~~
Sky loved the Surface. He loved the mysteries of the unknown he continued uncovering as he wandered and explored. He adored and admired the unique and new flowers, plants, animals, aromas, and sights he would come across.
The different and altogether fascinating textures. The varying landscapes and contrasting climates. Serene and captivating water worlds, so picturesque and gorgeous. The hot and musty volcanic lands with ash-covered rocks and lava flows. The tranquil and wondrous green earth full of healthy and strong trees and littered with innumerable flowers and plants.
Although Skyloft would forever be his home and hold a special place in his heart, Sky had been taken by the Surface. Skyloft wasn’t incredibly big and the islands rarely differed from one another. There wasn’t much to explore, and when one looked below, all they saw was the thick, cottony, clouds that blanketed the Surface from view.
When Sky had discovered the Surface, he hadn’t been given the time to appreciate and admire everything around him. It had all been so...so new and exciting. But, back then, his only focus revolved around finding and rescuing Zelda. And then he was pulled into an adventure where he’d faced the Demon Lord Ghirahim then the Demon God, Demise.
Once his tale had drawn to an end, however, Sky and Zelda had left Skyloft to the world below. They’d been in the process of exploring the many lands and beyond, writing everything they learned and discovered.
That was, until Sky had been sucked into another world and ran into the other Links.
Still, he couldn’t help but be fascinated by all he saw, heard, felt, and touched. It never ceased to amaze him. Every new world held its own kind of beauty, its own serenity, and its own mysteries Sky wished he could take the time to unravel and learn about. But, again, he was on a mission. His focus was narrow, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t able to take some time to look around and admire the world around him.
His eyes were always alight with wonder, taking in everything he would see. He carried a journal with him and would often illustrate a few of the things he’d seen for when he would return home. He wanted to show Zelda everything he had experienced. He cataloged his days, stating what he did at what time and what he saw that made him appreciate the Goddess’ works.
Everything was so colorful. So vibrant and full of life!
Never had Sky seen pure and utter darkness, even behind closed lids. Sure, the night was dark, but there were always stars glittering and dotting the oily canvas up above.
Never had Sky experienced a world of nothingness. A world devoid of any color or rapture.
Until now…
They’d been in the midst of an intense battle against moblins that had ambushed them. Battle cries, shouts, and grunts filled the air along with clashes of steel and metal screeching against metal. Shields took vicious hits, protecting the Heroes from otherwise deadly attacks.
Swords sang as they were swung with practiced ease and lethal precision. Fighting had become second-nature to the Links, and they rarely ever had difficulty in achieving victory.
Sure, fighting could be drawn out and draining, but Sky found these monsters to be more of a nuisance than an actual concern. He’d fought plenty of moblins and bokoblins before. Especially before his final stand down against Ghirahim.
Sky swiftly ended another Moblin’s life, watching the body crumple and vanish into nothingness. He turned to find the other Heroes taking care of the last of the monsters with a relieved smile.
Wind was holding his own against three Moblins and Sky had to admit he was impressed with the young Sailor’s focus and prowess. It was of no surprise that Twilight was winning his fight. Brute strength against measly muscle? Time appeared to be effortlessly handling his batch of pesky monsters, and Hyrule had finished off the few he’d been going against. Legend burnt a Moblin to a crisp and Warrior stepped back with a victorious smirk once he was through. Four ended his battle and now waited for the others. Wild was incredible with his spear and within the blink of an eye, had defeated two Moblins that had ganged up on him.
Sky was grateful the battle was almost over. Now that he wasn’t fighting, exhaustion hit him like a sledgehammer. He was tired. This, of course, was truly of no surprise. When wasn’t Sky tired? His every move, every expression, and every word was laced with drowsiness. He couldn’t help it. He’d always been this way.
He looked up when he heard Wind give a bright, triumphant cheer, and mirrored the glowing smile Wind wore. His happiness sure was contagious.
Suddenly, the beaming look Wind wore morphed into one of dismay and horror as the blonde boy pointed a finger past Sky’s shoulder and shouted,
“Look out, Sky!”
He didn’t miss the changes crossing every Hero’s face when they turned and spun on their heels towards him.
Everything that happened next felt almost unreal and slow to Sky. Like a dream, only this was no dream. It played out like a nightmare.
Four’s eyes had grown wide and his mouth moved as if to echo Wind’s warning. Warrior was lunging at him, hand outstretched and voice crying out. Twilight was skidding to a stop, the Ordonian’s body twisting around. Time’s eye was wide with a myriad of helpless emotions, strands of golden-blonde falling into his face when he saw the danger coming for Sky from behind.
Wild had an arrow nocked, brows drawn together in fear, but Sky knew he wouldn’t release it in time. Hyrule’s boomerang was mid-swing, just barely leaving his fingertips, the Hylian’s expression desperate and worried. Legend’s features were twisted into something almost unidentifiable. He was shouting, but whatever he was saying, Sky didn’t catch it.
Then, there was a sharp, excruciating, pain exploding in the back of his head and Sky jerked forward with an agonized gasp. A sickening crack! resonated through the air, the dreadful sound echoing in every Link’s ears. Sky’s vision blurred as he fell to the earth. Stars dotted his vision, blackness ringing the edges and closing in.
His ears rang and his head swam.
Agony raced through him.
Then he struck the unforgiving earth, the harsh impact jolting his body. There he remained, limp and lifeless, unable to move. His eyes drifted shut on their own accord as he gave into the welcoming darkness.
Cries of alarm and shouts of sheer terror and anguish were the last things Sky heard before he slipped into unconsciousness.
~~~~~~~
When he came to, he really wished he hadn’t. His head pounded terribly! It ached and throbbed that he felt he’d been dropped into the very pits of misery. He groaned, squeezing his eyes tightly shut against the pain.
Nausea rose and he fought to squash it.
“Sky..?” A muffled voice quietly called, hope faintly coating the low tone.
Sky..? Who..?
He rolled his head to the side, wincing when his head protested against the movement. The urge to vomit intensified.
“Sky? Are you awake?” The voice called again, and a hand settled firmly on his shoulder.
Sky..? Is that...Is that my name? It sounded right. The name was familiar...
He winced again, raising a hand to cradle his pulsating head. Goddess, but it hurt to think!
“Thank Hylia!” The voice breathed in relief. “Can you open your eyes for me, Sky?”
Sky did.
Or, at least, he thought he did.
He saw nothing but complete and utter darkness.
He blinked his eyes shut, then reopened them.
He received the same result.
Panic clutched him then.
“T-Twi..?” He whispered, voice wobbling. He reached out a hand, blindly grasping at air. What was this?
A strong hand gripped his own reassuringly, anchoring the disoriented Hero.
“Calm down, Sky, everything’s okay.” Came Twilight’s calm and steady reply. But it wasn’t okay! Pure terror gripped at Sky, tendrils of fear clawing up his chest and squeezing him viciously. His heart felt ready to burst! It was beating madly and so loudly Sky was sure Twilight could hear it.
“Wh-why is it so dark?” Sky managed to ask, trying to gain some semblance of control over himself. He scrambled weakly, vainly attempting to sit up. The darkness churned and Sky felt his fear rise.
He sensed Twilight shifting closer and an arm curled around his shoulder, helping him up into a sitting position.
“You’ve been out for some time,” Twilight solemnly explained, giving his shoulder a gentle squeeze, “It’s nighttime now.”
Sky frantically shook his head, curling into himself when his mind swam and his head went berserk. His stomach churned and coiled, and he wrapped his arms tightly around it in a pitiful attempt to quell the nauseating sensation.
“T-Twi…” Fear seeped into his characteristically light and gentle tone, but Sky could care less. He clawed at the deep, earthy green tunic of Twilight’s, fingers digging into the fabric and his breathing started to pick up.
Nothing but blackness. He couldn’t see!
Why couldn’t he see? Even though it was night, shouldn’t he be able to catch a glimpse of something? Twi’s shadowy form? Or the dying embers of the campfire? Or maybe, they’d chosen not to light one?
Why couldn’t he see anything?
“Calm down, Sky,” Twilight soothed, trying to ground Sky, but nothing would work. Sky could barely hear him over the pulsing of his ears and thundering of his frantic heart. “Hey! Take deep breaths, Sky,” But he couldn’t!
“Why...why is it so dark, Twilight?” Sky so desperately wanted to know. “Why is it so black?”
He didn’t see the concerned look Twilight was fixing him with, nor the way his brows drew together with worry.
“I told you, Sky,” The Ordonian murmured, “It’s nighttime-”
Sky almost burst then, his fear was so great. He’d already reached the unsettling and horrific conclusion.
“Twi, I can’t see!” His breath hitched sharply, terror peaking to unimaginable levels. He felt Twilight stiffen and fall into a shocked silence, and he almost sobbed then.
There was no color. No light. Only emptiness.
No moon, no campfire, no glowing firebugs.
“I can’t see!” Sky repeated in a shrill whisper, and his world came crashing down. He was cast into a sea of turmoil and agonizing fear. He’d heard of blindness before. He’d listened to some people describe it during his travels with the Links, but he’d never been able to understand it. How could he? He couldn’t imagine what it was like. Sky couldn’t envision a life without sight. Living in a world completely devoid of nothing but unmoving blackness.
“Sky,” Twilight’s voice came again, steady and firm. It seeped into his raging mind and served to anchor him once more. Sky desperately clung to it. “Sky, I need you to listen to me,”
A strangled sob tore from Sky’s throat as the Hero gave into the conflicting emotions practically suffocating him.
He knew there must be a campfire somewhere. He felt its ambient glow, the warmth of the light on his back, seeping through the fabric of his tunic. He felt Twilight at his side but he couldn’t see him.
He knew there were stars glittering somewhere up above. He knew his eyes were open, and that was what scared Sky the most.
They were open...and he could see nothing.
This wasn’t like when he closed his eyes to sleep. He always saw some semblance of light seeping through his lids. This darkness was opaque. Impenetrable. It was devoid of any light.
Sky was completely and utterly terror-stricken! The nothingness swallowed him whole, twisting and coiling and suffocating him!
Strong arms wove around him, trapping him in a tight embrace and Sky crumpled against Twilight. He curled up to the other Hero, crying harder than he’d ever cried before.
He barely heard Twilight talking to him, but he felt his chest rumbling as he spoke. The secure grip around him tightened as Sky released his fears and terror, tears soaking the Ordonian’s shoulder.
He didn’t hear the rustling of a tent flap opening, or the concerned voice of Time carrying over to them. He didn’t hear the rhythmic thumpings of footsteps coming their way or Twilight’s grim response.
A strong hand settled on Sky’s head, fingers threading through his hair.
A deep, strong, and calm voice broke through Sky’s panicked haze and racing thoughts,
“Sky,”
The voice only served to make Sky break down even more. His entire body shook and shuddered from the force of his sobs.
“Sky,” Time brushed the hair from his face and Sky knew he was looking at him.
“I can’t see,” Sky whispered between gasping breaths and frightened sobs, “I can’t see! It’s so dark!” He sounded so haunted and so very afraid, resembling a young child fearful of the ominous dark. It pierced Time’s heart and broke it.
Sky was nothing more than a disheveled mess.
~~~~~~~
That night, Sky found it difficult to sleep. Time stayed with him while Twilight went to assign who had watch for the night. The flow of silver rain had slowed until Sky had no more tears left to cry. He’d grown eerily silent and still.
Sky’s head fell against Time’s shoulder as the elder Link wrapped a comforting arm around his shoulders and stayed up with him. He was exhausted and his head pounded, but Sky did not want to sleep.
“You should try to get some rest, Sky,” Time gently coaxed. Sky weakly shook his head.
“I can’t...” He whispered.
“Why not?”
“I’ll wake up...” Sky curled into himself and into Time’s warmth, “And I’ll find that this isn’t a nightmare...”
Sorrow flickered in Time’s single good eye.
“I will ask that you stay strong, Sky,” The older Hero gave him a reassuring squeeze, “Don’t give into despair.” Please.
It was hard not to, but Sky promised that he would try.
The tent flaps shifted as someone walked through. Sky felt Time turn to see who it was when the faint clinking of a metal chain and paws tapping gently against the ground reached his ears.
“Wolfie?” Sky questioned in a weak, hoarse, voice. A wet nose nudged his cheek in confirmation followed by a quiet whine. There was a hint of a smile on Sky’s lips as he reached out and dug his fingers into the beast’s soft fur.
He released a shuddery sigh as Wolfie placed himself next to Sky, his strong, comforting presence soothing Sky’s troubled heart and grieved mind.
Neither Wolfie nor Time left his side that night, and for that, Sky was most grateful.
~~~~~~~
The next morning was grim and somber. The Heroes were quieter than usual, never speaking louder than a whisper and only talking if they had an absolute need to. None of them had dared to disturb Sky except to periodically check in on him.
Sky never moved. He’d awoken when Time had, but the Hylian hadn’t known. The Hero had shifted Sky from his shoulder and gently laid him back on the blankets Wolfie had somehow crumpled together so he wasn’t resting on the hard ground.
The Heroes had chosen to remain for the day and had decided to risk moving out the next day to find a place to stay.
Sky didn’t know how much time had passed. It was hard to tell now that he had no eyes to track the sun’s position. It must have been hours, for he could feel the temperature gradually cooling outside. Four had brought him lunch, but Sky didn’t touch it. He wasn’t hungry.
It wasn’t long until he caught the subtle shuffling of feet coming his way. He was tempted to look and see who was approaching...only to be cruelly reminded that he no longer possessed the ability to.
If he were to wager a guess, he would have to say it was Legend coming to check in on him. Legend was the only one who hadn’t tried to coax Sky into eating or sleeping. He also was the only one who hadn’t looked in on him.
The flap of the makeshift tent the Links had put together rustled as someone pulled it aside and peered into the darkness within.
Blue eyes settled on the crumpled form sitting in the furthest corner, blankly staring into the nothingness.
The sight was unsettling, to say the least. The hopelessness and despair...The air of defeat and sorrow.
“...Sky?”
It was Legend. Sky felt a faint burst of pride at having identified the Hero correctly, but it was quickly overshadowed by his grief.
Would that he could see the snarky and outspoken Hero...
The footsteps quietly inched closer until Legend sat himself beside the silent Skyloftian.
“Hey,” Legend nudged him with his boot, “I brought you some food.”
Yes, Sky could smell whatever hearty meal Wild had miraculously managed to whip up from what little resources they still had. The Links had learned how to use things sparingly, especially during these last few days.
But, Sky wasn’t hungry and he didn’t want to eat. He’d long lost his appetite.
“Hey,” Legend nudged him again, with more force his time that Sky’s body moved, “You need to eat.”
“I don’t want to.”
Those were the first four words he’d spoken all day. Not exactly what Legend wanted to hear, but it was good to hear his voice- raspy as it was from disuse.
“Well you have to.” Legend’s tone brooked no argument. Sky rolled his head away. Legend stifled the urge to sigh.
“You know, you took a hit on the head.”
Sky almost barked out a laugh.
“You don’t say..?” He grumbled instead. How could he forget? The headache was still there, a constant reminder of what that monster had so viciously taken from him.
He could sense Legend rolling his eyes. It was amazing, Sky distantly mused, how his other senses had heightened to make up for his loss of sight.
An explosive sigh resounded through the tent as Legend planted the bowl onto the ground, the soup inside almost spilling over the rim.
“Listen, Sky,” Legend’s voice was sharp, and Sky knew he was scowling fiercely at him, “A hit to the head means the blindness is temporary.”
This gave Sky pause.
“How...” He began quietly, voice cracking. He didn’t want to get his hopes up only to have them brutally crushed. It was difficult not being able to see. How would he help the Links on their adventure when he was now incapacitated? Without his vision, he couldn’t tell where anything was and he was incapable of  fighting.
He couldn’t see anyone or anything.
His worst fear was that it was permanent. That he would have to return home because of his uselessness. But...if he were to return home, it wouldn’t be an occasion of joy and triumph. It would be a painful reminder to Sky that he was blind. He wouldn’t be able to see his Zelda’s smiling face or the beautiful and breathtaking expanse of the Surface...
 “How would you know?”
“I’m the most adventurous of the bunch,” Legend replied in a more mild and bitter tone, “I’ve probably experienced everything there is to experience on adventures.”
Was he...Was he insinuating that he’d...
Sky turned his head in the direction of Legend’s voice, hope creeping into his voice, “You’ve been temporarily blind before?”
“Yeah,” Legend admitted freely, “It was terrifying.”
Sky knew.
“Suffocating,”
Yes... Yes it was. It was incredibly stifling.
“Disorienting, unnerving. Immobilizing. I get it. I know what you’re feeling.” Legend said to him, uncharacteristically kind and understanding, “But I’m not going to allow you to wallow in your misery or leave you alone.”
Sky would have been touched if he wasn’t a tad bit weirded out by this side of Legend.
“I was fortunate, I guess,” Legend continued, huffing a little. Sky imagined he’d crossed his arms. “When I took a bad hit and woke to find myself blind, I wasn’t alone. Who knows what might have happened if I was...”
Sky shuddered.
“But you got your sight back,” He murmured, clinging to his ever growing hope.
“No, Sky, I’ve been travelling all this time with you guys blind,” Legend sarcastically replied. “Yes, I got my sight back!” He tacked on the insult “Dimwit,” just for good measure.
Sky laughed.
The Heroes outside of the tent raised their heads and looked its way, pleasantly surprised to hear the Skyloftian’s mirth after such a dismal and excruciatingly long day.
Warrior smirked as he meticulously cleaned his sword for the umpteenth time.
“He’s more of a softie than he realizes,” Wind heard him mutter. The sailor leaned close in question,
“Who is? Legend?”
Warrior only grinned down at him and ruffled his hair, earning a pout from Wind as the sailor sat back beside him.
“Alright, alright,” Legend griped, then ordered, “Stop laughing and eat.”
A bowl was shoved into his hands as Sky sat up with Legend’s help. The Skyloftian’s laughter died down as he gripped the warm soup uncertainly.
Legend waited for a brief second before asking, “What’s wrong now?”
Sky tapped the bowl and worried his lower lip as he stared down into his lap where the bowl rested.
“I...I can’t use a spoon. I can’t see.” He felt a faint dusting of pink grace his cheeks in shame. He would make such a horrible mess from being unable to tell where his hand was.
Sky’s head bobbed when Legend knocked his fist against it.
“Idiot,” The snarky Hero groused, “You don’t need utensils. It’s a bowl. Drink from it.”
Understanding dawned on Sky and he whipped his head up in Legend’s direction.
“Wild purposefully made soup, didn’t he?”
Legend grinned, although Sky couldn’t see it. “Now you’re catching on. It was Wind’s suggestion, actually.”
Warmth blossomed in Sky’s chest and he ducked his head down almost shyly. He sniffed, catching a whiff of what meal Wild had prepared and his expression brightened.
“This is my favorite!”
“Twilight found some pumpkins while he was out on patrol.” Legend explained, “No idea how he did since we’re out in the middle of nowhere, but he brought a couple back for Wild to use.”
He helped Sky to guide the bowl to his lips so he could take a sip. Instant warmth seeped down into Sky’s stomach and he felt his spirit lift. This pumpkin soup was superb! Then again, it was Wild’s cooking, so Sky wasn’t truly too surprised.
It reminded him so much of home. Of the Lumpy Pumpkin he’d frequented as often as he could.
He was disappointed when he finished the soup and held onto the empty bowl.
“Still hungry?” Legend knowingly asked him, smirking at the pouting Hero. Sky timidly nodded. “Well,” The younger Hero smacked his palms on his knees and stood, “Lucky for you, Wild made extra. Figured you’d be starving.”
“But I wasn’t...” Sky murmured in bemusement. “I didn’t want to eat at all.”
“That’s what we think,” Legend hums, “But we are. And even if you don’t feel hungry, your body needs sustenance, so, come on. Up you go! It’s time you get some fresh air.”  A strong hand wrapped itself around Sky’s forearm and hauled him to his feet. Sky flailed briefly, clinging to Legend tightly.
“Stop your flailing, idiot,” Legend chided without any true annoyance, “I’ve got you.”
Sky exhaled shakily and nodded. He knew Legend wouldn’t let him fall. But...
“Legend,”
“What?”
“How,” Sky swallowed thickly, heart pounding, “How am I supposed to walk if I can’t tell where my feet are or where I’m going?”
It was the ghost of a whisper, so full of uncertainty and wavering strength, but Legend heard it nonetheless. His expression softened and he squeezed Sky’s arm reassuringly,
“Don’t worry. Just because you’re blind doesn’t mean your body doesn’t remember how to function. Just put one foot in front of the other. Plus you have me to guide you. I know it’s asking a lot, but just trust me not to lead you into a tree or something, alright?”
Sky licked his lips and set his expression. Legend was right. He shouldn’t allow himself to wallow in misery and succumb to hopelessness. He could do this! For some reason, Legend’s presence gave Sky the strength he needed to press forward and try.
“How far are we walking?”
“Twenty steps.”
Sky blinked at the answer before a thought hit him. His head whipped in the direction Legend’s voice drifted from, “You counted the steps?”
There was an awkward silence and then a cough,
“...maybe...”
Sky couldn’t help the smile that grew on his lips. Legend had counted the steps for him so he would know how far to go. He’d never felt so touched!
“Thank you,” Sky whispered and Legend turned his red face away, griping,
“Yeah, yeah, whatever!” Tightening his hold on Sky’s arm, he tugged, “Come on, let’s go.”
Sky stumbled with a laugh.
“Are you embarrassed?” He teased with a trembling smile as he trusted Legend to lead the way.
“No!”
Gales of laughter drifted over to the feasting Heroes, accompanied by Legend’s dark mutterings and promise for revenge if Sky didn’t stop.
“Keep laughing and I’ll leave you to find your way on your own!”
The seven other Links slowly turned to find a flustered Legend leading an amused Sky to where they were seated around the campfire.
Time wore a proud and relieved smile as he watched Legend guide the blind Hero to Wild, thrusting the empty bowl he’d swiped from Sky into the cook’s stunned hands.
“He’s starving,” Was all Legend said and Sky elbowed him sharply.
“Legend!”
“What?!” Legend rounded on him, and poor Sky flailed again from being dislodged so suddenly. Legend instinctively snapped his hands out to steady him. Warrior leaped to his feet immediately and gripped Sky’s shoulders from behind, easing him forward before he could fall.
“Easy there!” He lightly scolded Legend. “This is what you get for trusting Legend, Sky.” He added, jabbing at the red-clad Hero. “You should have known better.”
“What?!”
“SKY!” A cheerful and happy voice cried as a small blue blur crashed right into the unsuspecting Sky. Arms were thrown around the Hero’s waist as Wind practically squeezed him to death. “You’re here!”
Sky grunted in surprise and Warrior tightened his grip so the victim of Wind’s overenthusiastic hug didn’t send him flying back onto the ground.
“Wind!” Warrior chided with a roll of his eyes at him but Wind stalwartly ignored him, clinging to Sky.
“You’re going to stay with us, right?” Wind asked, pulling back with sudden fear on his youthful face. “I don’t want you to go! You won’t be leaving, will you?”
Sky blinked, taken aback by the questions.
They made no sense to him.
He won’t be leaving? Wind phrased it as if he had a choice in the matter. He didn’t believe he did. He was blind. What use was he to them now? They didn’t know whether or not it was temporary, though Legend firmly believed it was.
Some of his doubt from before started to seep into his heart and troubled mind once more.
His brow crinkled as he tried to brush the thoughts aside and he looked down as best he could to where he thought Wind was. He lifted his hand uncertainly, carefully reaching out until it touched something solid. Sky then paused, unsure.
A small hand gripped his own and placed it on Wind’s head.
“You found me!”
Sky smiled and gave a little chuckle at the Sailor. His upbeat and bright demeanor was pretty contagious.
“So,” Wind started again, hesitant, “You’ll be staying, right?” He gripped Sky tightly, as if telling him that he’d refuse to let Sky go if he said no.
“I...” Sky swallowed thickly, “I want to Wind, but-”  “And I am going to stop you right there,” Warrior cut in, moving to stand beside Sky, opposite of Wind, “You are staying whether you like it or not.” An arm wrapped around his shoulders in a loose, reassuring, hug, “We aren’t going to let you go so easily.”
“But-”
“No buts!” Hyrule piped up, much to everyone’s surprise. The quiet-spoken and shy traveler jumped to his feet, approaching Sky with his fists clenched, “Just because you’re blind doesn’t mean you’re useless, Sky! Don’t think that because we don’t think that!” He firmly stated once he paused before his friend, “You are still a Hero, and you are our friend, no matter what!”
“He’s right,” Four calmly asserted. The small Hero set aside his own meal, turning to face Sky with a fire blazing in his eyes. Those cobalt pools of blue shuttered briefly, and had anyone been paying attention, they would have noted the different shades they changed into before reverting back to Four’s original color. “So stop that pessimistic line of thinking, Sky. Goddess knows it doesn’t help anyone.”
“Besides,” Came Twilight’s low and reserved voice, “I don’t think your blindness is permanent.” A strong hand clasped Sky’s shoulder and a shadow fell on him as the Ordonian blocked the flickering light the fire cast, “Believe in that.”
There was more to his words. A conviction in Twilight’s tone that gave Sky hope and made him believe in what Twilight said.
“And if we are to battle?” Sky asked almost timidly. They had yet to cover all of the bases but Sky had an inkling the Links weren’t going to let him go or send him home as he’d previously feared.
A warm feeling grew within him, spreading and enfolding Sky like a thick, insulated, blanket.
“You don’t think we would take into account everything, Sky?” Time’s rumbling voice sounded from above him as a large hand settled on his head, fingers threading through his hair, “Warrior knows everyone’s strengths and their weaknesses. When he executes a plan, he ensures that he utilizes everyone’s skills and abilities in ways that would best secure our chances for victory and viability.”
Warrior blinked in shock at Time’s confident reassurances to Sky. Time believed and trusted in him to keep everyone safe in battle. The eldest Hero had faith that Warrior would pull them through whatever skirmishes they faced. He’d never known this. He’d always thought they turned to him because he was Captain of the Guard and knew war and battle like the back of his hand. He knew strategy and could list off tactic after tactic while his mind quickly conjured up the most effective and efficient plan that would guarantee their survival.
He ducked his head, his hair slipping from their pristine hold and hiding his face from view. A genuine smile graced his lips at the leader’s words. They meant more to him than any of the Links would ever realize. A flare of determination sparked within him and Warrior swore he would work hard to remain worthy of Time’s trust and belief.
“We have also come to learn one another’s techniques and have grown accustomed to fighting alongside one another.” Wild pointed out, sidling up to the other Heroes. They were all gathered around Sky now. “When one falters, another is ready to step in. We don’t really have to think when we’re in the heat of battle. We know.”
We’ll keep you safe, was left unspoken but not unheard.
Murmurs of agreement were voiced by the others and Sky felt ready to burst from the happiness and contentment he felt.
They were there for him and they weren’t going to let him go.
Sky should have known better than to doubt. They were, after all, family. And family never left anyone behind.
~~~~~~~
“Where am I now?”
Sky instinctively turned his head and answered, “Next to Four and adjacent to Legend.”
Wind clasped his hands together, brimming with excitement and pride, “Wow! You’re getting better and better, Sky!” He gushed.
Sky laughed at the sailor, thanking him sheepishly. For the last few days, he and Wind had been playing a game Legend had suggested. The fourteen year old had immediately jumped at it. Sky was hesitant at first. It was a spin off of hide-me-seek-me but with a twist to make up for Sky’s blindness and hone his other senses.
“He’s not exaggerating,” Legend’s jaded voice remarked, “How did you know where Four and I were?”
Sky rubbed the back of his neck, sensing many pairs of eyes on him.
“I came up with a layout in my head. Thanks to you, I know the perimeter of the camp and with how much Wind and I play this game, I know where you guys prefer to sit. Wild is always nearest the fire,” He pointed in the direction he knew Wild to be in, “Time is behind him and Twilight beside him. Hyrule is across from me and Four is closest to him. Warrior is to my left and were Wind not standing, he’d be sitting in front of him. I can also tell where you are from the angle your voices come from.”
“Woah, really?” Hyrule gaped.
“Yeah,” Sky chuckled a bit shyly, “I can tell when you look away because your voices grow fainter or when you are looking straight at me in the same way.”
“Impressive,” Warrior commented. “Think you’re ready for your next challenge?”
Sky blinked, sensing the Knight’s wicked grin, and his brows drew together as he turned to face Warrior,
“My next...challenge?” He slowly repeated.
A hand clapped him on the back, “Don’t let Warrior scare you, Sky,” Legend’s voice sounded. “He’s just envious that you’re a quick learner.”
“Envious?!” Warrior sputtered. Sky cracked another smile.
He truly did appreciate the Heroes and all they did for him. For the past few days, Wind refused to allow Sky to lose hope or sink into depression. Legend was a constant companion of his now and Sky often held onto him when they would move. After they would set up camp, Legend would walk him around and Sky would count the steps so he could memorize the outline.
Warrior helped Sky to hone his ability to fight. Sky’s senses had heightened incredibly and his hearing had sharpened. He could hear Warrior’s blade singing when he would swing it with precision. Sky had managed to block a few strikes, his body and limbs moving instinctively.
Muscle memory, Wild had told him.
~~~~~~~
“I know the circumstances are different, and that you don’t suffer from memory loss but blindness,” Wild had said to him the night before when he’d slipped beside him, “But, when I woke up from my one hundred year sleep, I knew nothing but my name, and that was only because Zelda told me. I didn’t remember how to fight, how to defend myself, or how to use weapons, but I didn’t have to remember.
“I already knew. My mind might have forgotten, but my body hadn’t. It was muscle memory that saved my life more times than I can count. You just have to trust and believe in yourself, Sky. You will be surprised to find what you are capable of even when incapacitated.”
~~~~~~~
It had comforted Sky more than Wild knew. He didn’t know what he’d done to deserve such supportive companions. The Links always looked out for one another, and they worked hard to help Sky as best they could.
At night, the doubts and fears Sky would forget or suppress during the day would return with a vengeance, but he refused to allow them to weaken his faith. Wolfie would come to him then, curling around Sky and giving him the comfort he would seek.
The wolf even allowed Sky to initiate a game of fetch, something he’d refused to stoop low enough to do. Wild said it was because of his pride and something to do with wolf vs. dog. But it made Sky laugh and smile so Wolfie swallowed back his pride and let Sky throw a stick and ran off to fetch and return it to him.
It had been completely by accident at first. Sky had found a stick and flung it with all his might and strength, channeling his frustrations and conflicted feelings about his blindness. He was in the process of stalking off when he heard paws heavily pounding on the ground, a metal chain clinking, and a wolf huffing as the great beast ran after the stick. Then he’d trotted to Sky, a wet nose pressing against his hand and nudging him.
Sky had experimentally tossed the stick again and Wolfie brought it back.
Wild was jealous. Apparently, Wolfie never allowed him to play fetch.
Sky enjoyed it- until the stick rebounded off a tree and smacked him in the middle of his forehead.
He knew Wolfie was laughing at him from the beast’s wheezing and sounds of Wolfie rolling unashamedly in the grass.
Sky often found himself turning to Legend or in Legend’s presence. He was still victim of Legend’s pointed jabs and condescending remarks, but it made Sky feel better. Legend wasn’t treating him any differently. Not that the other Links were either, but Legend was the only one fearless enough to actually poke at Sky the way he normally would.
“I still can’t believe I’ve lost my sight,” Sky had once sighed after a long night.
Legend had snorted from his position on the ground and muttered, “Well, then, better go find it.”
It was so unexpected. So utterly uncalled for that it made Sky sit back and think for a moment before he burst into laughter and awoke the slumbering Heroes spread out around them.
Sky couldn’t gather himself together enough to explain to Warrior or the others why he was laughing so hard. Legend chose to remain tight-lipped about it, leaving the Heroes to wonder what they had missed.
It appeared the Goddess was granting the Heroes with peace and respite for they never once were ambushed or drawn into battle. There were a couple monsters here and there, but nothing they couldn’t handle.
Sky also found himself comfortable enough to walk without having to cling to Legend’s shoulder or arm. He merely listened to the footsteps and Legend’s voice as he and Warrior went back and forth.
They were in the process of journeying to a nearby village where they could check into an inn. Sky was looking forward to sleeping in an actual bed for once.
“That cloud looks like a frog,” He heard Wind offhandedly comment to Warrior.
“Which one?” Warrior asked, no doubt searching for the cloud Wind had seen.
“There,” Wind pointed, “Do you see it?”
“Huh...” Came Warrior’s impressed voice, “It kind of does, actually.”
Sky felt a pang in his heart. That had been another game he and Wind once played. Back when he could see. To pass time, they would eye the clouds and try to identify their shapes. Whoever found the most would win.
Sometimes, the other Links would join in.
A hand settled on his shoulder and Sky started. He turned, instinctively looking up.
“Don’t worry, Sky,” Came Time’s voice. Sky blinked in surprise and glanced forward towards the front of the group. Wasn’t Time leading them? “You will get your sight back.”
Sky smiled with gratitude at the Leader.
“Of course he will,” Legend grumpily groused from nearby, “Stop thinking otherwise, Sky.”
“Legend,” Came Wild’s deadpan voice, “Would it kill you to be nice for once?”
Legend sputtered.
“I was being nice!”
“Really?” Wild questioned dubiously. “I would never have known.”
Twilight jumped in, “I’d hate to see when he’s not being nice, then.”
Sky couldn’t help but laugh at Legend’s expense.
“I hate you guys.”
Warrior and Four snickered.
“Every one of you.”
“And what exactly did I do to deserve such antagonism, Legend?” Time coolly inquired, though Sky knew he was teasing Legend.
“Everything, Old Man! You’ve done everything!”
Sky was still chuckling when his ears twitched. His sharp hearing had caught a faraway sound. It was distant, a snap of a string then the singing of an-
Sky’s eyes widened in alarm and he lunged before his mind told him to. He reacted because he knew if he didn’t, Legend would pay the price.
“Legend!” He tackled the Hero just as an arrow buried itself into the ground.
The Heroes leaped into action, surrounding Sky and Legend. Twilight’s sharp eyes caught sight of movement and he called out to Wild. A second hadn’t even passed before Wild let loose an arrow of his own.
A monster’s squeal informed them that Wild hadn’t missed.
“Twilight, Wild!” Warrior needed to say no more. Twilight and Wild veered in different directions, scaling the cliffsides in search of any hidden monsters.
Time quickly helped Sky to stand then lent Legend a hand. Legend took it, staring in disbelief at Sky.
“How did you know?” Legend breathed out, still reeling in shock. Time wondered the same. Neither of the Links had seen the monster or the arrow and they knew if Sky hadn’t tackled Legend... Legend might not have been standing with them anymore.
Sky’s heart was still pounding, adrenaline racing through his veins. Now that he had the time to think, he realized just what had gone down.
“I don’t know,” Sky replied, his voice a quiet, relieved, whisper, “I heard it and knew it was aimed for Legend.” He cringed as a sharp flash of pain lanced through his head.
“What’s wrong?” Legend demanded to know, gripping Sky’s arm tightly when the Hero raised a hand to his head, expression pained.
“My head’s hurting.” Sky answered, rubbing his temple. “It’s beginning to ache- badly.” And it was. It was a dull throb, but the pain accompanying it made him feel worse.
“Is that good or bad?” Wind piped up worriedly. Legend wore a look Time couldn’t quite translate. Was it relief? There was a knowing gleam in his eyes but hesitance to utter what he knew aloud.
The snarky Hero flicked his hand in the air, telling Time to divert the conversation immediately, pointedly inclining his head towards Sky.
Time didn’t understand, but he did as Legend motioned.
“We’re not too far from the village. Once we rent a room, you are going to rest.”
~~~~~~~
Sky’s headache gradually grew worse. He was immensely relieved when Twilight and Wild returned, announcing that any monsters they found had been dealt with.
Time had moved them at once and they picked up their pace when Sky’s coordination was beginning to fail him. The poor Hero couldn’t focus and relied heavily on Twilight and Warrior to help him stay upright.
It could have been minutes, it could have been hours, but sooner or later, they reached an inn. Time booked three rooms and the Heroes had Sky immediately lie down. Their concern for him grew and Hyrule, having enough of seeing Sky in pain, forced him to take a Red Potion.
Sky did.
Though the intensity of the ache lessened, the throbbing was still there. The backs of his eyes were beginning to hurt to.
He didn’t know what this meant, nor did he care. Legend ordered him to sleep.
It was hard, but Sky finally managed to drift off into an uneasy sleep, much to everyone’s relief.
Hyrule volunteered to stay up if Sky would later awaken.
He didn’t.
~~~~~~~
The next morning dawned bright and early for Sky. The Hero awoke with a yawn and stretched his arms in the air, feeling well-rested and hungry.
His head, he found, still pounded, but it wasn’t quite as bad anymore.
He blinked open his eyes...
And almost fell off the bed.
Was that...
Was that light?!
Sky’s breath caught. It was blurred, distorted, and faint, but he knew that was sunlight he was seeing filtering through the window.
He shot upright in the bed and his head swam from the sudden movement, but Sky could care less.
He waited for a few minutes. His vision gradually started to restore itself. Not completely, but now, he could make out the general outline of the bed he was in and the room he shared with Hyrule and Legend. It was much darker than he knew it should be and terribly hazy, but Sky was far too overwhelmed by his joy and renewal of hope.
Was this why his head was hurting so badly and his eyes ached?
A smile so wide nearly split Sky’s face. His entire being radiated with unrestrained delight and relief. He was practically buzzing with excitement!
His sight was returning to him!
He had to tell someone!
And Sky knew exactly who he would tell first.
He slipped out of his bed and hurried to the door, bumping into a couple of objects on his way. He didn’t care.
He excitedly stumbled out of the room to find Legend. Legend was the first person Sky wanted to tell of this miracle. Legend who’d stuck beside him and helped him. Legend who’d given him hope, empathized with him, and refused to leave him alone. Legend who ensured Sky didn’t give in to hopelessness or despair. Who had comforted him in true Legend fashion.
Sky wanted to give him a special thank you for everything he’d done for him. He didn’t know where Legend might be, or where he himself was, but Sky didn’t have to look for long. Legend was the one who ended up finding him.
And when Legend saw him staggering like a drunkard through the corridors, the snarky Hero quickly went to his aid.
“What do you think you’re doing, Sky?!” He demanded to know, wrapping an arm around Sky’s waist to steady him.
“Legend! Legend!” Sky excitedly chirped, gripping his friend’s arm, “You won’t believe it!”
Legend peered at him, confused by Sky’s sudden enthusiasm and eagerness.
“What? What in Hylia’s name could have you so wound up that you risked stumbling through the corridors-”
“I can see again!” Sky burst out, a radiant smile so wide splitting his lips. “I can see, Legend!” He said again at the look of utter shock that Legend wore. “It’s blurry, and you’re nothing more than a red blob,” He gushed out, bouncing on the balls of his feet, “But my sight is coming back!”
Yes, Sky might not be able to see clearly and perfectly as he once had, but he saw the smile that was growing on Legend’s lips, mirroring his own. A smile so full of joy for Sky and relief in his eyes as he clapped Sky’s back,
“I knew it would come back,”
Sky threw his arms around Legend, squeezing him to death. Legend floundered, face completely red,
“What the- I get it, Sky! I get you’re happy but there’s no need for-”
“Thank you, Legend,” Sky whispered, voice wavering from emotion as tears sprung to his eyes. He tightened his grip on the snarky Hero. Without Legend, Sky might have lost hope. He might not have found the strength to press on and believe that he would one day gain back the ability to see again.
But he would. Slowly but surely, Sky’s sight would return and be restored.
Legend paused then gave a sigh of defeat and awkwardly pat the Skyloftian’s back in congratulations.
When Sky pulled away, he could still see the smile gracing the snarky Hero’s lips.
A true, genuine smile that was light and pure. Horribly blurred as it was, Sky recognized it and considered himself extraordinarily blessed.
For it was the most beautiful thing Sky had ever seen.
About WIND MEETS THE ROM : a Work In Progress
Tumblr media
@mordenheim reblogged it to @nevermord
and said:
Tumblr media
True that there is no shortage of lunkheaded Barons.  There is a certain method to that madness.  Both Princesses carefully observe those who are good or not.  This influences their choices for advancement when Counties come Vacant.
About Wind, not really.  They said no untrue thing, but, as Marchhare did observe, the truth was a pretzel.  The whole tale of her berserk rages was built on questions and dodges.  As for the dragon taking her arm and sword, that was Mama Dragon who took them to purify them after a serious contact with Evil, one of the Spirits that sort of run Wind’s home world.
The whole knock her out game was based on Mama Dragon’s telling Wind to not touch swords or other weapons.  Of course, it only let her reputation grow.
Building that reputation was the whole purpose of the exercise.
Glad that you are looking forward to the next part.  I got some fun planned.
Tales of Wind Guide
Tales of Wind Guide is another thing to enable you to improve at Tales of Wind. well the game is fun and has many element yet excessively centered in day by day occasion so I drop it cause I can't login at specific time and I miss Spirals money in there(Guild move/war/and so on) Idk it looks simply like another run of the mill anime gacha. It's practically similar to they are made in a similar processing plant like those Clash of Clans-ish games. The voice acting in this game is screwing frightful is there in any case to utilize Japanese voice acting without changing the language of the content?! In the gathering, Asura is the character who convey other gathering individuals yet troth to be told his maximum capacity is arrived at just when there is a Paladin in the gathering as well. Asura's abilities are: Ninja is a stealthy professional killer who controls the foes by consistent incapacitating strikes. He has an incredible evade chance so not at all like Asura, he is equipped for supporting the assaults for a better than average measure of time. While he is in stealth his basic strike chance is significantly expanded which implies that his double swords could deliver gigantic harm whenever utilized appropriately. Their astounding sturdiness makes them amazing for fledglings, just as veterans. In the correct hands, this class isn't just the most durable yet additionally truly solid since they can recuperate themselves to a degree. The Warrior can progress to turn into a Berserker or a Paladin. This decision is polarizing for the class since it radically influences its viability at specific jobs in battle. Paladins are simply cautious, with numerous choices to shield and mend themselves, while Berserkers are powerhouses that can destroy their adversaries however are significantly more delicate than their partner. Moreover, the apparatus upgrades are not restricted to explicit pieces since they move consequently when you swap them for other, better bits of rigging. For instance: on the off chance that you overhaul your gloves to +1, and afterward swap them for a superior pair, the new gloves will be +1 too without beginning the redesigning procedure sans preparation. On the off chance that your dress is the establishment of your character's capacity, the cards are the materials with which you will assemble the rest. By finishing certain difficulties and prisons in Laplace, you will get cards as a reward, which you can implant in your weapons and guards to expand their characteristics. As these are ordinarily testing particularly on the off chance that you need to be a decent cooperative person, don't depend on auto mode for these kinds of missions. In the event that you can stand to, try to shape or be in a gathering that speaks to each class and capacity all around ok as a full group with a tank, healer, and DPS has a greatly improved shot of making due than only an arbitrary gathering of classes. Make a point to recollect that group plays on a harder trouble setting can be unmistakably more testing than what you may regularly expect considering the general details of the adversaries as contrasted and a similar stage on solo play. By the by, these Clerics can change impressively in the wake of moving class. On one hand, on the off chance that they become Priests, their mending capacities increment significantly further, to the point where they can get familiar with a spell to give their partners power for a few seconds. Then again, on the off chance that they become a Ranger, they will learn numerous capacities for managing harm, while likewise keeping a portion of their mending aptitudes. More or less, Assassins are units with the most noteworthy harm potential in the whole game. You can dole out up to 5 Guardians however every watchman space will be opened by your most extreme level (fifth Guardian opening is opened at level 65). Gatekeepers are restrained when you use Monster Net on the beast egg. Beast Nets can be procured or purchased in a few different ways. Make sure to check your sack regularly and utilize each Monster Net you find. Like nearly everything in Tales of Wind, restraining a gatekeeper is additionally robotized so it will be simple for you to gain proficiency with the fundamentals. You may need to frame a group to have the option to do certain missions. The clever group discoverer alternative made this undertaking simpler. In any case, we encourage you to do them all day by day with the goal that you will be at the top! Garbage your corroded apparatuses when you show signs of improvement ones. To do as such utilize the Disassemble All catch which you will discover in your stock. The main things you focus on are cards. Regardless of whether they merit keeping or not is still dependent upon you to choose. They are anecdotal after all being in a dreamland. 1) Why accomplishes something being an "escape from the real world" mean it doesn't have minorities in it? Who is truly getting the chance to "escape" with media like that, and for what reason would they like to? 2) Diversity isn't constrained in. Assorted variety is only a practical default that makers have little motivation to stray from, similar to characters having noses in their countenances rather than on their elbows. At the point when it's absent, it has been constrained *out*. It feels like when I proceed to play one of the games from the prior web 20 years back, the old progressively inconvenient cell gathering instruments in them. It's charming, yet difficult to pay attention to with it being generally all autoplay and the unpleasant prison gathering. Hell the prison gathering is the main progressively confounded manual thing you do in the whole game, and it's the one thing that ought to have been simple and robotized. The reason gathering is how it is, so you can do different things inside a similar gathering its a mmo after all implied for players to meet up the dynamic of gathering you are searching for is arrangement in other sort of games like arpg and such you have to comprehend the class you are playing. What's more, you are contrasting auto pursue with auto playing truly? Ppl on auto pass on in cells except if they are route more grounded than the prison they playing which makes auto accommodating to help ppl out while you can do different things throughout everyday life, yet in the event that u arent above cell rec auto will get you killed. Auto pursue just encourages you get starting with one target then onto the next snappier, see when you are on auto pursue to somebody with a mount that moves quicker then you and they zone the auto pursue makes you zone with them and not need to hold back to get up to speed and enter making your group look out for you cause your mount isnt as quick as theirs. Each reforge expends bronze, iron, or mithril relying upon the rigging's level, and some Silverstar. When you click on the reforge catch, you will see the eventual details of your gear and on the off chance that you like what you see, at that point essentially click on the spare catch. There's not really any set in stone choices to make here yet first off, remember that each purpose of detail is a point towards an expansion in BR and commonly, you would need to have details that outcome to higher BR. The primary thing you will be required to do in (Tales of Wind) is to choose a class and begin your experience. It gets along nicely at offering various jobs to players with various ability trees and free reset for focuses.Commonly you won't have the ability focuses from simply leveling. You need to open the abilities window and utilize the Redeem catch. You're exchanging EXP for aptitude focuses with that catch. Focus on journey rewards since some should give you aptitude focuses. I THINK it's the one indicating saying you must be level 49 with 45 ability focuses. So don't try too hard when exchanging for aptitude focuses excessively. One of your better wagers so far is to be on in any event level 50 preceding exchanging for aptitude focuses. You can change a Warrior to a Paladin or a Berserker. Safeguard and managing Damage are warriors claim to fame. In this way, their subclass will be something related. The Mage can pick between a Pyromancer or a Frostweaver. Since this class has a place with casters, you will most likely arrangement a ton of harm and utilize some group control when looked with foes. The Cleric can either change into a Priest or a Ranger. Expert players may discover this class phenomenal as they can either mend or harm. Minister aptitudes are: Ranger is the help who uses a bow and bolt to disturb the foes and information of nature to toxic substance and revile them. He can recuperate or he can incur harm however he isn't in the same class as Priest or Mage. This advantageous class is most appropriate for solo playing in spite of the fact that it tends to be valuable for the gathering now and then. Officer does not exceed expectations in any job which makes him less alluring than a Priest however then again, he is absolutely independent. Those rewards will apply to your character. Additionally, this does not influence the watchman you have conveyed. The sent watchman does not need to be in the Guardian Array by any stretch of the imagination. For instance, despite the fact that "BigCat" is appearing in the above screen shot, it isn't the conveyed gatekeeper for this situation. Another 2 star watchman is conveyed because of it having a gathering expertise. In the event that by chance regardless you question the watchman getting technique depicted above, simply realize that "BigCat" in the above screen shot was a 2 star gatekeeper when it was picked up! It's nothing especially one of a kind, however there's a feeling of brotherhood here not exactly introduce in other versatile MMORPGs. That is much obliged, to some degree, to the gathering framework, which is somewhat of a blended sack. Most MMORPGs use matchmaking to rapidly place you into a comparative level and aptitude gathering. Story of Wind, rather, selects to utilize a gathering discoverer framework. This isn't innately awful, and really brings about groups feeling less like nondescript players. You can set messages for the sort of player or class you need and get the gathering that is directly for you, for example. The principle technique for this circumstance is in certainty to pause. In the long run your positioning will go down again and you can discover a lot simpler adversaries to play against. This can be seen as "extra gooey with no test" yet it works. Simply consider the way that you ought to consistently be going for the success to the exclusion of everything else. For those that need to attempt to continue onward, this is the place you need to make a genuine informed decision. There are adversaries on the rundown in which you can thrashing contingent upon your character's arrangement and your moves/strategies. With incalculable PvE, PvP, and GvG (Guild versus Society) modes, you can make sure there will consistently be somebody to battle with, or close by, in Tales of Wind. Other than the puzzling cells players can investigate, there are likewise in excess of 20 diverse easygoing exercises, including hustling, shooting, tests and so forth. Players can change their outfits and catch adorable mounts in this open world. What's more, above all one can meet the foreordained sentiment in this fabulous voyage! Go get hitched in Tales of Wind! Furthermore, following journey lines furnish you with significant things and materials you will discover much all the more testing to acquire from different sources. There are a few kinds of missions accessible in Tales of Wind yet first off, you should expect to achieve the principle journeys. Tales of Wind happens on Arlesdore, a dream landmass where evil presences seemed a large number of years prior. A few of these evil spirits, known as Calamity Lieges, were viewed as the most awful of all, and it's dependent upon the player to find reality behind their abrupt appearance so as to take light back to the world." As we noted at the time, Neocraft is going up by a Blizzard China organizer, and the game is promising four fundamental classes with two subclasses each, "spirit cards" that enable players to transform into beasts, PvE cells, PvP and GvG as well, in addition to a piece of sandboxy highlights. "Notwithstanding investigating strange prisons, players can partake in more than 20 diverse easygoing exercises, including hustling, shooting, tests and that's only the tip of the iceberg," the official statement says. "Players can change their outfits from huge amounts of choices and catch adorable however ground-breaking mounts in this open world. Autoplay is here and present however there's to a lesser degree an attention on it. The center, rather, is on joining forces up with different players and taking an interest in gathering occasions. You'll invest the majority of your energy in Tale of Wind scrutinizing the Kingdom tab, where the majority of the gathering substance is found. There's a genuine measure of this kind of substance on offer, and it gives a huge amount of remunerations. There are your ordinary prisons, which you can fight through to open the best gear and updates, PvP, and a flat out abundance of constrained time occasions, which furnish huge amounts of one of a kind ongoing interaction with tremendous gatherings of players. On the off chance that you just began to play the game and wind up in somewhat of a crunch understanding the essential ideas of the game or to some degree befuddled about what to organize or on the off chance that you played enough yet need to have a progressively proficient method for step up your character and expanding your BR, at that point our Tales of Wind Beginner's Guide can clearly enable you to begin directly on the game. Tales of Wind has 4 particular classes to browse and every one has increasingly concentrated occupation moves up to look over later on. He can mend after some time whole gathering or he can recuperate totally one character, he can rinse every single negative impact, award invulnerability for a concise period and he can resuscitate fallen partners. Great planning is of the substance so make sure to utilize your capacities when it is significant and does not depend on auto-play since it is pointless to spend abilities when everyone has the full wellbeing and it is far more detestable to not have the cooldowns when required. In the event that you be a Priest you will be a fundamental piece of any gathering all the time which implies that you will consistently host a get-together. Continuously go for the prizes with things first.Oddly enough and to the shock of many, Tales of Wind figured out how to create an upbeat medium! That is the missing part which caused objections about the Auto-play framework! In any case, before they can help you in the field, you should first "prepare" them by tapping on "convey" in the watchman menu. Besides, the watchmen that you keep on save can be prepared to the gatekeeper cluster in this equivalent menu. The rewards they award from this component will increment with the quality and uncommonness of the watchman, so it's in every case better to utilize your best critters for the cluster. The components that we've referenced in this guide are just a couple of strategies that you can use for improving your character in Tales of Wind. Next, cautiously take a gander at the aptitudes offering it has. The aptitudes that are indicating are going to in the long run discharge to your character as it increases levels. Those are the short rundown of the character's aptitudes showed when making a character. Usually, those abilities won't open as you foreseen! The most elevated suggestion is to evaluate the simpler characters Tales of Wind offers. This incorporates the berserker, the mage, and the officer. Every one can be ruinous, has a decent survival rate, and isn't hard to play. Warriors in this game are the inhabitant tanks, intended to withstand crazy measures of discipline and arrangement it ideal back to the foe. With sword and shield close by, this class spends significant time in group control aptitudes alongside different assaults that can harm everything remaining in his manner. Their fundamental capacities comprise of assaults to uproot their foes, paralyze them, and hurt everybody around him. In this sense, this class possibly feels comfortable when encompassed by various adversaries. Warriors are perfect for players who like to confront each test with their swords held up high.
The History of Norsemen, or Vikings
Tumblr media
During the tenth century Charlemagne’s empire and Anglo-Saxon England were attacked by a new group of invaders known as Norsemen, or Vikings. They came from the far northern part of Europe now called Scandinavia. The tall, fair-skinned Vikings became known as brutal fighters and robbers. They spread fear and destruction throughout western Europe for several hundred years. At the same time, however, they opened up new trade routes and brought shipping skills to other Europeans.
The Vikings captured parts of Britain and France. They ruled cities in Russia and set up colonies on islands in the North Atlantic. They even paid a brief visit to North America. Those who went abroad married the people they conquered. They also accepted a new religion and customs. Others stayed in Scandinavia and set up the kingdoms of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.
THE LAND
The Viking homeland of Scandinavia was an area mostly of forests and long, rugged coastlines. The southern part, known as Jutland, 0r Denmark, had many natural harbors. It also had large plains where the Vikings grew oats, barley, rye, and wheat and pastured their cattle, sheep, and pigs.
The rest of Scandinavia was not as well suited to farming. Winters were long and cold, summers short and mild, and the soil rocky. The coastline, however, had many fjords, or bays. So the people turned to the sea to making a living.
SHIPS AND TRADE
The Vikings built ships with timber from the dense forests and sailed out of the fjords onto the sea to make a living. The ships were large and well suited for long voyages. The bodies were long and narrow. The sides, where a single row of 16 oars was placed, were usually decorated with black or yellow painted shields. The tall bows were carved in the shape of a dragon’s head. This was supposed to frighten both enemies and the evil spirits of the ocean. The strongly sewn sails were square and often striped red and yellow. The ships bore names like “Snake of the Sea,” “Raven of the Wind,” and “Lion of the Waves.”
An awning in the forepart of the ship protected the sailors from bad weather. They slept in leather sleeping bags and carried bronze pots in which to cook their meals. Whenever possible, they cooked their meals ashore to avoid the danger of a fire on board ship.
The Vikings plotted their courses by the positions of the sun and stars. They sailed far out into the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean in search of good fishing areas and trade. They did most of their traveling and trading in the spring after their fields were sown, or in the fall after their crops were harvested. They spent the long winters in their villages repairing their boats and weapons.
The Vikings were as successful in trade as the Phoenicians. Viking traders carried furs, hides, fish, and slaves to western Europe and the Mediterranean. They returned from these areas with silk, wine, wheat, and silver.
TOWNS, VlLLAGES, AND JARLS
Trade led to the growth of market towns in Scandinavia. These towns usually had two main streets that ran along the water’s edge. Buyers and sellers set up booths and displayed their wares along the streets. The towns were protected on their land side by mounds of earth surrounded by wooden walls with towers.
Most Vikings lived in villages scattered throughout the country. Their houses were made of logs or boards. The roots, which were made of sod-covered wood, slanted steeply to shed the heavy winter snows. Carvings of dragons decorated gables at either end. In front of each house was a small porch supported by carved pillars.
Distance and the cold winters isolated the people of one village from those of another. As a result, there was no central government. The people were divided into groups ruled by military Chieftains calIed jarls. Jarls either inherited their position or were elected to it. They saw to it that their group’s laws were obeyed. Sometimes a jarl became strong enough to take over and unite neighboring territories. When a jarl had enough territory under his rule, he was recognized as a king.
Most Viking adventurers, however, went to western and southern Europe in search of food and valuables. They disguised their ships to look like wooded islands by covering them with tree branches. Then they traveled far up the rivers to make surprise attacks. They stole goods, destroyed homes, burned churches, and killed or sold as slaves any people they captured. All Europe feared the Vikings. In their churches the people prayed, “From the fury of the Norsemen, Good Lord, deliver us!”
THE DANES
Some of the Danish Vikings Settled in the areas they raided. One group of Danes invaded England and set up settlements there. In 954 an heir of Alfred the Great forced them to leave the Danelaw. In 978 Ethelred, nicknamed the Unready, became king of England. The Danes saw their chance and began raiding England again. At first Ethelred was able to buy them off with silver. But in 1017 a Danish king called Knut, or Canute, took over the country and made it part of his North Sea Empire. Canute was a powerful but just ruler. He converted to Christianity and brought peace and prosperity to England. Soon after his death in 1035, however, Danish control of England came to an end. Some Danes left England. Those who remained became a part of the English people and culture.
DAILY LIFE
Family life was important to the Vikings. Most households contained 20 to 30 members including parents, grandparents, married children, and grandchildren. Families often fought bloody feuds to maintain their honor. The payment of fines later put an end to such feuds.
THE PEOPLE
Viking men were warriors called berserkers. They believed in a life of action and valued deeds that called for strength and courage. They fought to gain wealth, honor, and fame. They believed that a liking for war brought special honors from the gods.
To call their warriors to battle, the Vikings lit bonfires on the tops of mountains. Those who saw a fire would light a new one to spread the message. The warriors fought with battle axes, swords, and spears. Metal helmets decorated with animal figures protected their heads. Shirts made of iron rings and covered by a large cloth protected their bodies. The warriors preferred to die by their own hand rather than give their enemies the satisfaction of capturing or killing them.
A Viking groom bought his wife from her family on their wedding day. If he was not pleased with her, he could sell her. Yet the position of Viking women was quite high. They took complete charge of the home. They could attend public meetings and talk with men other than their husbands. They could own property and get a divorce. Many Viking women grew herbs which were used as medicine. All the women encouraged their men to fight.
Both men and women liked fine clothes. The men usually dressed in trousers and woolen shirts covered by knee-length tunics. Broad leather belts held the clothing in place. Sheepskin hoods and caps kept heads warm. For special events the men wore red cloaks with brooches and carried decorated swords and daggers. The women also wore tunics held in place by a belt. They covered their heads with woolen or linen caps, and wore large brooches, pins, and bracelets. Both men and women wore their hair long, and the men took great pride in their mustaches and beards. Calling a Viking man “beardless” was an insult that could be wiped out only by death.
The Vikings had no schools. Parents taught daughters such household skills as spinning, weaving, and sewing. They taught sons to use the bow and arrow and to be good fighters. The boys also memorized tales of heroic warriors and gods, and competed in games that tested their strength and endurance.
RELIGION
The Vikings worshipped many gods which at first were closely ”related to Germanic gods. In time they changed the names and activities of their gods to suit the harsh life 0f Scandinavia. The Vikings believed that the gods were responsible for the weather and for the growth of crops . Since the gods liked to hunt, fish, and play tricks on one another, the Vikings viewed them as extra powerful human beings.
The Vikings bargained with their gods to get what they wanted. Priests offered sacrifices of crops and animals on behalf of the whole community. Most Vikings also had small shrines in their homes where they could pray or offer sacrifices.
The Vikings were proud of their gods and told stories of their great deeds. These stories later became written poems called eddas. The Vikings also composed sagas, or epic stories. At first skilled storytellers used to recite sagas at special banquets. One such saga took 12 days to recite. After 1100 the Vikings wrote down their sagas. With the coming of Christianity, the people lost interest in these tales. Many were forgotten or were forbidden by the Church. Only the people of Iceland passed on the old tales.
At first the Vikings spoke a language similar to that of the Germans. In time the one language developed into four Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Icelandic. They were written with letters called runes, which few people except the priests could understand or use. The Vikings used the runes as magic charms. They wrote the runes in metal and carved them in bone in the hope that they would bring good luck. When the Vikings accepted Christianity, they began to write their language with Roman letters.
RAIDS AND ADVENTURERS
Scandinavia’s population kept increasing. By the end of the ninth century many Viking villages were overcrowded, and there was not enough food for everyone. Since there was no central government, the kings constantly fought one another and made life difficult for their enemies. Before long many Viking warriors began to seek their fortunes elsewhere.
Groups of warriors attacked merchant ships on the open seas. Danish Vikings began raiding the coasts of France, England, and Spain. Swedish Vikings crossed the Baltic Sea and traveled down the rivers toward Russia. They founded settlements and began to trade. They established a water route from the Baltic to the Black Sea and on to the wealthy city of Byzantium. This water route came to be known as the Varangian Route. In 862 a Swedish Chieftain named Rurik founded a Viking state that became the basis of the Russian monarchy. Norwegian Vikings established trading towns in Ireland, explored the North Atlantic, and founded a colony on the island of Iceland.
Led by an adventurer named Eric the Red, the Norwegian Vikings began to move even further west. In 986 they founded a colony on the island of Greenland. Then Eric’s son, Leif Ericson, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and landed on the northeast coast of North America. He and his followers named the spot where they landed Vinland because of the wild grapes they found growing there. Today the area is called Newfoundland. The Vikings did not set up a permanent colony in Vinland because it was so far away from home and the winters were so cold.
THE WHITE WOLF OF WINDHELM ========================== By the time the three orcs reached the frozen stone bridge of Windhelm, the three were incredibly worse for wear. As though roused to the very limits of their capacity for violence and cruelty, both road and wild of Skyrim were teeming with a host of foul creatures, from starving sabercats to raging, aetheric beings of shadow and flame. There seemed to be a direct correlation between Alduin the World Eater's mustering strength, and the power of the blight that had fallen across Tamriel, rousing all manner of beasts to madness and hunger. . "These are not men of reason and long-term thinking," Ogol grunted as the trio crossed the bridge carefully. The sun had already dipped beneath the mountainous horizon to the west, and footing was treacherous, even with travel lantern and torch. The hold guards on patrol looked considerably uneasy both in expression and gait. "Not the stately generals of Cyrodiil like you're used to dealing with in Solitude. Trust me, Akhara, I dealt with my fair share of men like these back when I myself served in the Imperial Legion. These Stormcloaks are men of war. Of rebellion. Of death. It is all they have ever known." . They were strong words, but words imbued with experience and fact. One could not appeal to Ulfric and his captains with brute-force appeals to logic and reason. Instead, Akhara would have to find another way to get the wolves of Windhelm to recess from their warmongering just long enough to hear of the impossible scheme the Dragonborn of Skyrim had concocted. . It turned out to be much easier than expected. . The very second the three Orsimer entered the Palace of the Kings, they were immediately set upon by a retinue of partially-inebriated, cold, dismayed and angry Nords. Weapons left sheaths, and combat was well underway by the time Ulfric himself emerged in a half-sprint with his first in command Galmar Stone-Fist less than a meter behind him. Ulfric's housecarl bounded toward them, great axe well in hand, but his liege stopped him dead in his tracks. . "Wait," Ulfric said as the battle continued. "I know that orc. Wait a moment and let this play out..." . Akhara hadn't been looking to add more "brave sons of Skyrim" as notches to her ever-growing war belt, but she was far too exhausted and temperamental to care. When the pommel of one of the Stormcloak's maces met her face, cracking the bone in her nose in three places with an explosion of blood, it inadvertently triggered a flood of adrenaline through the Dragonborn's entire body sending her into an unquenchable bloodlust common to the Orsim people and known by Nords everywhere as "berserk". . Ugor fenced wildly and bravely, but the Stormcloaks were many in number, and she quickly got pushed back-to-back with Ogol as the two struggled to defend their own commander with minimal strength in reserve. As all three Stormcloaks fighting Akhara fell one-by-one in turn, a second wave emerged from nearly every nook and cranny in the grand atrium, pouring out into the open like skeevers in the Ratways of Riften. By then, Ulfric himself had decided he'd had enough. He drew his blade and ran forward, coming to a full stop about fifty feet before the orc warchief. He squared himself, opened his mouth, and sucked in a deep breath of air. His eyes met with the orc's. . What happened next many could not explain. The only living son of the late, great Bear of Markarth unleashed the full force of his Thu'um directly at Akhara. The Green Queen retorted in kind, bellowing back her own, controlled, and measured shout. Had she used even the second word of Unrelenting Force, Akhara was certain she may have killed the very man she'd come to parlay with. When the opposing forces of both Thu'ums collided, all noise diminished instantly in the chamber before an incredible blast of air exploded through the room, shattering every pane of every window, clearing the dining tables of all their settings and foodstuffs, and causing all within an 100 foot radius of Ulfric Stormcloak and Akhara Shug to collapse to the ground from shock and from having the wind stolen violently from within their own lungs. Gasping for air, every Stormcloak as well as Ugor and Ogol crawled along the floor trying to steady themselves and collect their weapons. The only two that remained standing were the heroes of men and mer. . "Dragonborn," Ulfric said quietly, surveying the orc with her wicked-looking glass scimitar before him. "I had to be sure. There are many tall tales being told this hour in Skyrim; we Nords most of all are prone to embellishment." . "Satisfied?" Akhara scowled, her knuckles whitening around the hilt of her sword. . "I apologize for the hostilities," Ulfric soothed, sheathing his own blade. He nodded to Galmar. "See that the men are OK. I'll take it from here." . "My lord," Galmar began, but Ulfric's expression immediately silenced his protestations. . Once Ugor and Ogol rejoined Akhara's flanks, the warchief finally sheathed her scimitar and crossed her arms. "I didn't come here to fight." . "I'm sorry to hear that," the Wolf of Windhelm observed. "From what I can tell, you've got a fair amount of skill at it. And training from the Greybeards too, it seems. If you change your mind, speak with Galmar. The Stormcloaks could use a power like the one you possess, Dragonborn. But what does bring you to me this eve?" . "I bring word from the men who trained us both," the greenskin replied firmly. "You are a proud Nord of the old ways; you are duty-bound to hear them." . "Come," Ulfric said, leading Akhara, her two bodyguards, Galmar, his mage Wuunferth, a high-ranking lieutenant by the name of Yrsarald Thrice-Pierced, as well as the considerably-drunk Torbjorn Shatter-Shield, into the war planning room of the Palace of Kings. Once they were all assembled, Ulfric leaned over the table and continued. "It's about time they turned their gaze from the heavens, back to our bleeding homeland. What do they want?" . "They want to negotiate a truce until the dragon menace is dealt with," Akhara said. "Given the surge of their kind in Skyrim of late, and the return of Alduin, I'm inclined to agree." . "I have the greatest respect for the Greybeards, of course," Ulfric replied wearily. "And the dragon attacks are a growing plague. But the political situation is still delicate. Not all the Jarls are fully committed to supporting me as High King. I can't afford to appear weak. I can't agree to this unless Tullius himself will be there." . "General Tullius has already agreed to attend," the orc said with a hint of pride. . "Good. We still hold half of Skyrim despite everything the Empire could throw at us. I doubt the Empire has the stomach for much more bloodletting." . "So you'll come to the peace council?" asked Akhara hopefully. . "Yes. I'll give Tullius one more chance to quit Skyrim with his tail between his legs." . The orc warchief wiped the blood from her bleeding nostrils. "Good. Now that you've agreed to that, I'll need you to agree to letting your personal physician be at my complete disposal since you nearly just cut down three emissaries of peace and the only one alive that can save this world from destruction."
