For this one we’ve picked the subtitles from “Cardinals”.
This film starts right after the last one ends, but one of the prosecutors is already replaced and Yama got a cold and sounds hoarse. It was set up as being about the little brother and his hearing, but instead a half of it is uncomedy about a grandpa and the other half a drama about the psychopomps and their past life. Considering that…
Just something cute like König looking up the pet names horangi calls him in a Korean to English dictionary and getting flustered
This is such a cute idea!! I had the perfect nickname for this!
I used Google translate for all of this because i have a total of one (1) language i know lol. If i misspelled/misused anything, please tell me so i can correct it!

König thought a lot about the nicknames Horangi used. He used What he knew about Korean spelling and phonetics to try to piece together the way they would look in the Latin alphabet. He didn’t know nearly enough about Hangul to guess how it would look in the right language, but hopefully this would help him find it.
So far he had gongjunim, beol, yeobo and Naekkeo.
König liked all of them, though he noticed a pattern. Gongjunim was mostly used when Horangi was teasing or when they were in bed. Yeobo when he was being soft or König did something nice. Beol when they were hanging out. Naekkeo was usually reserved for when they were in front of other people or when Horangi was stressed.
König was guilty of using names in his own language so Horangi wouldn’t understand them. He thought it was something cute they both did, but lately, curiosity got the best of him. So he opened the book he had gotten to help him learn Korean, luckily it included the phonetic version of the word next to how it would be spelled with Hangul, and started looking.
It took forever to find one, but finally he found beol. It meant bee. That was very cute! He liked that a lot! Horangi joked occasionally joked that he bumbled around so it made sense.
He moved through the animals to see if anything else looked close to the names, but he couldn’t.
With a small sigh, he continued to look before finding a section dedicated to nicknames. There, he found yeobo and he kicked his feet in excitement.
“Equivalent to honey, darling or sweetheart.”
König smiled and blushed. He was so sweet.
Naekkeo meant mine! He didn’t understand... Oh. He used it when other people knew Korean.
König flushed bright red, thinking of where Horangi was. What he was doing. He thought of his smile and hummed.
Naekkeo. He’d have to use that on him. Horangi would be so surprised.
Gongjunim though. He couldn’t find it. He tried typing it into his phone, even repeating it into the phone did nothing.
He texted Horangi. “I know you’re busy, but I was wondering, the nickname, Gongjunim, mean?” Yes, he could’ve done that the whole time, but he wanted to learn Korean and this was good practice.
“king like your name.”
“No it doesn’t.” König frowned. He knew it didn’t. Both from his book, his friends telling him, and also no it wasn’t!
“ok, it doesn’t”
“Then what does it mean?”
“fine it means princess.” König felt the floor fall from beneath him.
“You call me princess?”
“yeah send me a picture”
König didn’t understand, terribly flustered, but he did as told. His face was bright red since he didn’t have his hood on.
“knew youd be flustered” Horangi texted back.
“You’re so terribly mean!! I am not a princess!”
“youre my gongjunim” Horangi sent a selfie of him at the table. Even with his mask on, he looked lovely.
Hello Beol(〃'▽'〃) I want to said that I am a sharp-nosed person and have an inexplicable obsession with smells. I always cuddle and hug people so that I can smell their body scent🙈🙈🙈
Therefore, may I have Hokusai, Kenta, Shiki, Allen and Yuto with a fem s/o that love their body scent very much and she always stick with them(cuddle, hug) in order to smell them?
If you feel uncomfortable with it, you can just ignore it as I understand this may be a bit perverted🙈(and I'm sorry about that if I make you feel uncomfortable)
Scent Headcanons
Allen Sugasano -
Allen always had an undertone scent that smelled fresh. It reminded you a bit of the ocean wind, slightly salty that it grounded you but green enough to revive you from the stress of the day.
Anne was the one who bought the cologne for him, insisting that it's a piece of accessory that appeals to one of the most important senses of the body; scent.
Hajun helped him with putting on the scent after he saw Allen spraying it around like crazy (it's like Allen's nose didn't work.)
If you sit beside him (shoulders touching), you can slightly smell his cologne but it wasn't pungent enough to distract you entirely.
Only when you hug him or place your head near his chest can you smell the scent as he normally sprays the cologne inside his jacket.
Shiki Ando -
Shiki doesn't really wear cologne (it's hella expensive and he's still a student so. Yeah he isn't getting cologne anytime soon-)
But he does apply baby powder after shower, specifically in areas he sweats more often to prevent having a sticky body (he sweats everywhere when he's around Ryu though).
Therefore he ends up always smelling like fragrant baby powder.
He is a bit envious of Saimon and Yohei, putting on cologne with husky and spicy scents but whenever he sees the price of cologne, he's happy that his wallet doesn't feel so light.
Whenever there is physical touch involved like hugging, he always worries whether he was too sweaty or if his body odor was strong but the fragrant baby powder always had his back.
It's also the reason why Ryu loves hugging him.
Hokusai Masaki -
Hokusai smells naturally earthy, with him going around random areas to find cats.
The place he visits the most are parks or areas with a lot of trees, places that cats can easily hide behind.
His hands though... smell like cat food and cats. You can often see cat hair stuck to his sleeves.
He mostly hides cat food and snacks in his pockets so he'd smell like cat food.
However, he uses body shampoo that smells like sandalwood (Reo gifted him), a warm comforting smell that perfectly matches with his calm personality.
Reo often wonders whether the shampoo he gave him was the secret to how cats loved him.
Yuto Inukai -
Inukai didn't have time to indulge in luxuries, his only scent being the soap he used.
It smelled minty and he liked it because it was cold whenever he rubbed it into his hair.
He wasn't a naturally sweaty person so the minty fresh smell stuck to him often, his inmates often preferring him over the other guards because he was more hygienic.
His hair was most fragrant since his body shampoo was unscented (the same one prisoners used most likely. A bland bar of soap.).
When he's not working, he does spray a bit of cologne on his wrists whenever he goes out.
The scent on his wrist was enough to gently waft into your nose if he ever placed a hand on your face but wasn't too strong to be distracting.
However, that minty scent on his hair was still there so he always had a minty undertone to his scent.
The cologne he uses are woody with a leather undertone (most likely because of his other persona preferring stronger scents while minty scents were often the norm for him).
Kenta Mikoshiba -
He hasn't showered in 10 days 3 hours 45 minutes and 11 seconds.
That's approximately the amount of days he'd go without showering if he wasn't in jail but because there was a schedule, he was forced to wash after waking up and right before bed.
Inukai often forces him to use soap otherwise Kenta would (probably) hop in and out of the shower as he had more important things to attend to (trolling on the internet or catfishing as Shion Inukai would guess).
His soap didn't have any smell so Kenta wouldn't smell like much.
The only thing you will be able to smell is his minty fresh toothpaste but other than that. Yeah.
He wouldn't like cologne very much either. Shion would drench himself in cologne before meeting his girls so he'd come to hate the smell of cologne (Shion getting cologne as a prison gift).
Okay I’m reading the pronunciation/transciption appendix now
The Westron or Common Speech has been entirely translated into English equivalents. An Hobbit names and special words are intended to be pronounced accordingly: for example, Bolger has g as in bulge, and mathom rhymes with fathom.
Not gonna lie, I have always pronounced these wrong. I guess it’s just me being influenced by Finnish a bit too much.
K is used in names drawn from other than Elvish languages, with the same value as c; kh thus represents the same sound as ch in Orkish Grishnákh, or Adûnaic (Númenórean) Adûnakhôr.
There's something kind of interesting to me about this choice and what it says about Tolkien's associations. Latin style spelling for Elvish while everybody else gets... well idk, I feel like kh tends to be used to transcribe that sound in non-Western European languages?
Although k of course is used a lot in Northern Europe (including Dutch and German and even English).
(This got a bit long so the rest is under a cut)
L represents more or less the sound of English initial l, as in let. It was, however, to some degree 'palatalized' between e, i and a consonant, or finally after e, i. (The Eldar would probably have transcribed English bell, fill as beol, fiol.) LH represents this sound when voiceless (usually derived from initial sl-). In (archaic) Quenya this is written hl, but was in the Third Age usually pronounced as l.
So I unfortunately don’t know much about the Celtic languages but I know Tolkien studied them and was inspired by them and this is where I think that shows? Based on what little I do know about like Irish spelling. And of course the voiceless L as its own sound rather than an allophone of voiced L.
NG represents ng in finger, except finally where it was sounded as in English sing. The latter sound also occurred initially in Quenya, but has been transcribed n (as in Noldo), according to the pronunciation of the Third Age.
This is another interesting choice because I feel like if Noldo was spelled Ngoldo it would immediately look non-European.
R represents a trilled r in all positions; the sound was not lost before consonants (as in English part).
You can tell Tolkien is a linguist because he says “before consonants“, because of course it doesn’t fully disappear (even in non-rhotic dialects) if it’s followed by a vowel.
The Orcs, and some Dwarves, are said to have used a back or uvular r, a sound which the Eldar found distasteful.
Sure, the Eldar found it distasteful, not you of course...
RH represents a voiceless r (usually derived from older initial sr-). It was written hr in Quenya. Cf. L.
I’m not entirely sure what sound this is supposed to mean? I assume a non-sibilant voiceless alveolar fricative? I have to admit, I don’t think I’ve run into that kind of sound before. Apparently it appears in some English accents as an allophone of t?
The use of the circumflex in other languages such as Adûnaic or Dwarvish has no special significance, and is used merely to mark these out as alien tongues (as with the use of k).
... weird but okay.
The groups er, ir, ur (finally or before a consonant) are not intended to be pronounced as in English fern, fir, fur, but rather is English air, eer, oor.
So my instinct is to assume that the ur has the same vowel as the u described earlier (with the same u as in brute in English) but the pronunciation of oor seems very inconsistent in English and depends heavily on the accent so idek.
Is it like poor or like door? Or neither? And if it is one of those then according to which accent? Or is it just IPA [ur] which would make it consistent with the er and ir?
In Dwarvish, which did not possess the sounds represented above by th and ch (kh), th and kh are aspirates, that is t or k followed by an h, more or less as in backhand, outhouse.
Ooooh this interesting actually. So I assume this means Dwarvish has a distinction between aspirated and unaspirated plosives?
We’ve watched it with the subtitles from “Zipper” and those dorks called the term “paragon” you can find in the english translations “parangon”. There’s such a word in french but there’s definitely no such word in their target language.
This is a supernatural (or mythological) drama about afterlife bureaucracy of asian flavour with dorky psychopomps.
There’s some weird extra dated light comedy in…
The Thunder Callers by the sea, the matriarchs of the Hyledh clan
They could pull the tides flat, calm storms and pull thunder from a clear sky, and they were all women
But not everyone had the spark, not the young heirs Beol—who they called boy nor Jana—who they called girl.
Beol was born to the youngest matriarch, and Jana found by her wife in the height of a summer storm. They were inseparable as they grew up.
Beol would be coaxed from studying by Jana and they would go on adventures in the first nearby
And despite neither having the Gift, they were both loved in the clan house and the town.
When they hit adolescence, the sorrow of having no magic began to weigh on them both. The two turned from studies and tree climbing to swordcraft, finding in each other a sparring partner to improve with.
When they came of age and their skin flushed darker red and their horns were sharp, they left for the city together. Beol to study sorcery at the Obsidian Tower, and Jana to find a merchant company to venture into the wastes and fight the creatures that lurked there.
On the way there, though, the roads were impassable and in the stormy weather of night they tumbled both down an embankment and the caravan left them for lost in the wilds.
Their swords were sharp, and their voices raised together as the beasts that dwelled in the forest came.
They don't talk about what happened in the wilds, much. it was weeks before they found their way to the city, half starved but triumphant.
Their swords had dulled by then, but their hearts were ablaze with determination and they set out to find their destinies, separately now.
Two years later, Beol—who was a woman, and Jana—who was a man, returned to the clan in that small village by the wild sea.
Beol had learned much in the Tower, dark and powerful arts. Jana had learned the ways of the sword, unrivalled in any duel.
And they were happy there, sister and brother by the sea. Still inseparable, and neither had the touch that called down thunder from a clear sky.
Jana brought home a husband, an archer he met while hunting, and Beol brought her books to teach the town how to light the dark.
And one day, the matriarchs watched a storm brewing far away, the wrath of an angry and aging god. And they worried about the ocean opening up and swallowing the town whole.
And Beol and Jana were down by the sea as the town evacuated. The sea was still, and pulled back.
As the seabed lay there, bare and exposed to the air, Beol and Jana held hands and they thought about their voices—together to fight the beasts of the forest.
And now their voices were in unison as they pulled the air around them, like a cloak.
The lightning strikes, which had been far away, now circled them in time with their breathing and they called the thunder to them. The clouds and heavens pulling through two souls.
And as they looked out to the sea, eyes full of sky, and they pulled the storm around them.
And Hyledh clan no longer only has matriarchs, not since that day when a boy and a girl knew their shared childhood dream of calling down the thunder and pacifying the ocean.
