When I engage with the Silmarilion fandom it’s always very educational and enlightening no matter what side they’re on regarding Finwe and his sons. But whenever I interact with the HoTD fandom it’s always “you’re condoning XYZ and therefore you’re a horrible person!!!” Or doing mental gymnastics to try to justify whichever atrocities their side committed.

Thematically both stories are quite similar. We can find parallels with Rhaenyra and Feanor but even at his worst (Pulling a sword on Fingolfin, First kinslaying, burning of the ships etc.) Feanor had never put a bounty on a toddler (Rhaenyra stating that Maelor should be bought to her dead or alive causing him to be ripped apart. Like hello??!??? How is that ever a justifiable thing to do???). I can find parallels between Feanor and Rhaenyra, sure. But if I’m honest the parallels stop with them being the only child of a kings first wife who’s father then went on to face four more kids with another women. Finwe is ten times the father Viserys was. And literally none of the kids (Feanor included) would ever take their anger out on their siblings child like we see the so called Maegor come again do.

But I digress, I was talking of the fandom. I may get heated talking about whether Feanor was right in his anger at Indis or whether Fingolfin should’ve absolutely demanded more reparations from the sons of Feanor when he crossed the ice. But I’ve never seen anyone in the Silm fandom saying that someone should die because they had an opinion.

But I’ve seen many instances of HoTD fans threatening rape and death on people who think Alicent is not the monster they portray her as, or that Rhaenyra isn’t as ‘girl boss queen slay!!!’ As people say she is. Maybe it’s because HoTD is a TV show and many of the fans haven’t read the books and therefore don’t understand nuance since the TV show focuses so much on Rhaenyra’s manifest destiny arc that team green gets painted as the ‘ultimate’ villain for our girl boss queen Rhaenyra to ascend to the throne since it’s her ‘birth right’.

Not to mention how the whole made up show canon prophecy to justify colonialism means that team black stans are really showing their true colors on what they think is right. Because guess what? The Silm also has what could be said to be as a colonizing story line with the Noldor coming to Beleriand and settling but most fans agree that the cutting up of Beleriand was very much a colonizing behavior no matter what they think of Thingol.

Point is, most HoTD fans can’t hold and intellectually simulating debate over their characters without feeling like said debater is personally attacking them since their entire personality is so deeply entwined with their fav that a critique on them would automatically equate to a critique on themselves. Therefore making it entirely impossible to have a decent conversation on the thematically very important foils that Rhaenyra and Alicent pose to each other (since they still think a good story must have a black and white view of the protagonist and the antagonist lmao).

Media illiteracy in these fandoms truly is a cancer that spreads to even the most level headed and literate individuals. Pick up a book! Understand themes and how foils are supposed to be written without internalizing criticism of your fav as a criticism of yourself! I don’t get mad when people criticize Feanor, nor do I get mad when people say I’m wrong when it comes to my own interpretation of the statue of Finwe and Miriel. It’s called having a discussion and you can only do that when you’re not on the front lines dying for a fictional character who wouldn’t spit on you if you were on fire in front of them!!!

So Kiya, I just read a theory where they said that most likely in the end of JJK, Yuuji will die alongside Sukuna and Megumi was the one who'll survive. I was so sad. What do you think about it?

Also, I love Yuuji, but I felt kinda guilty, cause ep 17 of JJK s2 is in my top 5 fav JJK episodes. Sukuna vs. Mahoraga is so cool, and when op song played at Yuuji's breakdown, I think it's felt right......

I don't even have a full-thought answer for that theory but just know if that happens, I'm fighting, I'm crying, I ripping wallpaper down...

Yuji is my sunshine who kicks ass, he is my favorite and if he dies I am not going to be the same person.

But I honestly get you on rewatching that episode. That moment is just so great as in terms of "this made me want to cry" which it did the first time I watched that scene. Like Enoki's voice acting hit me dead in my chest (and then came episode 20 and ooooh, boy).

And usually, I'm dancing to "SPECIALZ" because that song is fire (watch the music video for it, I promise you it is something else). But was the time I got mad and not because I thought it was annoying, (I didn't think so, I know some folks did) but because... how am I suppose to dance when my boy is crying and having a mental breakdown?

What makes playing that song perfect for that scene is that it did came off as mocking Yuji. Now, I don't know exactly whose POV that song is supposed represent, but I always just think it was for multiple characters. At that instance, it was Sukuna to Yuji.

It's funny, I posted a fic about... over a week ago called "You Are My Special" about Kenjaku's POV on Yuji and someone had commented how the song reminds them of Yuji and Sukuna (I've also been thinking about writing a companion piece on Sukuna's POV on Yuji), especially these parts...

*Watched several videos and read several posted lyrics for the translation. And at best, this is what I came up with. Mostly referencing from the music video.

Apparently, our minds worked in sync because these are the parts I think of during Yuji's mental breakdown. Well, that first part especially.

Forewarning, I am not an expert at analyzing! This is just how I feel.

Sukuna, for real, brought Yuji to the border of where he destroyed Shibuya so he could see all that destruction. Of course, he laughed at him, no doubt about that one.

But I also feel like that maybe Sukuna wanted Yuji to see what he's capable of. When I say "he" I mean what Yuji is capable of. He just should let go of his good nature and let loose.

I should probably make a whole other post on this since I don't want make this answer too long. 😅

Should I do that? Anybody wants that? I'd probably would do that. I'm gonna write it anyways.

I’m rereading chain of thorns and I’m at that part. y’all know the part. where a certain someone should not have died and how unnecessary it was. I like how grace is all like “you can stop this lucie.” bitchhhhh, couldn’t you have said that- hmmm, I don’t know maybe before Tatiana came out? like it’s so unnecessary and I am not here for CC hating the lightwoods and making sure each one from every generation dies.

Max- like what was he, an eleven year old? GONE. poor little boy 😭😭😭

Benedict- ok dude had it coming but he’s still a Lightwood and he died. plus Will makes a joke about it to Gabriel as if it’s not Gabriel’s trauma? the fuck. gabriel deserves better plus he needed more page time!!!! Gabriel and Gideon lost a father but yes, let’s make jests about it.

Kit- poor, sweet Kit. did not deserve to die like that. but of course, she’s not going to kill off any herondales because my god, we couldn’t survive that. can’t have our golden eyed and insufferable boys die. what vexed me most about this is the way CC went about it. I get they’re in this war but someone who is family and is practically family to y’all just died!!! but ok let’s grieve James and Matthew who are very much alive. wouldn’t be a CC book if we didn’t focus on the herondales.

tatiana- deserved it but I did not like how it was Cordelia. it should not have been her who killed her. Gabriel loses a son because of her, Gideon loses a daughter, Anna, Thomas, little Alexander, and Eugenia lose their brother, sister, cousin. literally Thomas loses his best friend who is basically his parabatai and his sister within the same year ish. I’m not sorry because it should not have been Cordelia to kill this wench.

Barbara- poor Barbara 😭 just wanted to marry Oliver but no, guess she’s got to go too. I would have liked to see more of her.

I swear that I do not want Magnus and Alec go adopt another kid if CC is going to kill them off. I know she holds herondales to this high degree but STOP HURTING THE LIGHTWOODS. yes, they are the best characters. without them, the world would probably be doomed. (looking at you jace lol we know you would’ve died without Alec or Izzy.)

adding Robert. he gone too. she even kills all the lightwoods in Thule like what is her obsession with hating this wonderful family? this is why I would rather she stop with the series. these are some of my fav characters but her carelessness and her desire to put one family above everyone else and simply act like nobody else matters is exhausting. as you know, I adore the lightwoods but it’s so draining to see them being treated like this. the only ones who I was glad to see gone was Tatiana and Benedict. you’ll never see her kill off a herondale. Stephen does not count because he wasn’t really introduced, and the other members were barely in stories, just mentioned.

and it’s fine if she has a preference. I love the lightwoods so much but there’s a different with you killing off multiple members of a family and writing out your fav family as untouchable. ahhhh, poor kit. he died and only Thomas and Anna had emotions through it all. we don’t even get to see Gabriel’s or cecilys reaction. what the fuck. I don’t know what CC was feeling writing this but I would have honestly rather she waited until she felt like writing it. it’s not fair what happened to Kit or the family over and over again. I wish she would do better but that’s too high of a hope for CC.

OFMD S2E8 SPOILERS

Right so. Izzy is my favourite character. And I don’t mind when characters die. I think if it adds to the story and is a good end for their personal story arc then it can be the best choice. But. I didn’t really like how they chose to go about it.

the story gave him a redemption. he protected the crew and suffered and tried to kill himself. he apologised and was apologised to. he changed and grew and found love and family. he had the respect of his friends and crew, the pirate nation as a whole, and even his enemies. He had the chance to give a speech about the purpose of piracy and a chance to say goodbye to Ed.

Logically this should have meant that his death should have been. Idk like not fine but gratifying.

But for some reason it didn’t feel like that? Usually if a character I like dies I’m some mix of “this is devastating, shouting at the screen, how could this happen” and “holy shit my fav guy is getting so much attention and is narratively important and will get so much fix it fic about them”. But with this i was kinda just like “wait what”.

And I think the reasons for this is because

1. I didn’t think the show would go that far. I personally wasn’t expecting any of the main characters to die. Like ACTUALLY die. This is the show that had Lucius miraculously survive being thrown over board, had stede find his marooned crew on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean, Izzy survived his leg being cut off and was walking on a new prosthetic immediately after, Ed had a canon ball bashed on his head and came away with literally no bruises despite apparently dying… For the muppet cartoon rules to suddenly not apply was jarring. But I suppose Izzy has always operated more in the real world than the rest of the cast.

2. the whole episode was rushed. The pacing was very quick and a lot of stuff happened without much time to process. Having a character die in the last episode means we didn’t get to see much of the other characters responding to it. This isn’t the shows fault cause it was originally meant to have 10 eps but still. i don’t feel it was given the appropriate amount of weight that it should have.

3. Izzy didn’t go down fighting in an epic battle. He didn’t die protecting those he cared about. He was hit by an idiots lucky shot and bled out. Izzy is the first main character to die. He was someone that by the end carried the same narrative importance as Stede and Ed. This is just a personal pet peeve but I think his cause of death should have been hard earned.

4. giving an angry miserable character a redemption and letting them find community and happiness only to then. die. is just very sad. Especially coming from a show that before this has been mostly very kind to its characters and audience.

That said, I think a lot of this can be resolved in s3. I think it is very likely that Izzy will remain in spirit in s3, through flashbacks or hallucinations or dreams etc as we have seen utilised for other characters, and we will see more of Stede and Ed and the crews grief (akin to how the goth crew reacted to Ed shooting Izzy at the start of the season). Izzy’s death isn’t meant to be a punishment for either himself or the audience. And I think the main issue was just a lack of time to flesh it out.

tl;dr: The show usually operates on muppet world rules so to have a main character actually die was unexpected. Since the final episode was rushed the appropriate weight could not be given to such a narratively significant characters death. the fact that izzy did not get to go down fighting or protecting others meant it felt kind of random and unnecessary. And having a show that is usually very kind to it’s characters and audience kill off a character right when they’d finally changed and found community kind of feels like a betrayal. BUT having both first mates (buttons and izzy) “leave” is likely symbolically significant to Ed and Stedes development. And the show will likely give due attention to Izzy’s death in s3.

It’s so obvious hori only has no problem with killing off non lov villains, if it’s hero or lov they all got ridiculous amounts of plot armor. stain getting killed off by afo is exactly what I expected, how else can hori show that afo is not just a punching bag for every damn hero of every level? look! afo can actually kill someone super easy!

Yeah, I totally agree.

As I said in my previous post I always expected Stain to die (or just be forgotten about/thrown back jail). I was never someone who thought my fav would have a happy ending. In most media I consume my favorite character is usually a low level villain that gets killed, so I'm more then used to it. Him dying isn't my issue--it's how lazy and little story impact it had.

Some of my other favorite characters that have died have been Greed, and Kimblee from FMA, Nnoitra and Tesla from Bleach and Han'nya from Rurouni Kenshin.

All of these had deaths that either matter plot wise or were given emotional impact. None of these characters are particularly big players when it comes to screen time, especially Han'nya and Tesla who were essentially side-kicks. Yet, their deaths are given a decent focus and/or effect the plot/themes of the work.

Hori did try--I will give him that. He did have Stain think something somewhat sentimental and sort of pray, but it's just not really enough. All might wanted to save him, sure, but after he gets killed, All Might is then the main focus and his death is pretty much dropped. It doesn't effect All Might and why should it when Stain wasn't really given much personality besides 'crazy guy' even right before he died.

And I saw that someone said in my last post, I was jumping the gun and Stain could be alive--which, yeah, I guess Hori could pull another Gran Torino and hand-wave him back from what clearly looked like his upper body being turned into mush, but why would he?

The reason I think Stain is super dead is because he's so unimportant. Hori has given him zero story value. Even him helping the Heroes with Info was rendered pointless because Star reset the clock for them. Nor has he done anything to expand his character past 'insane murder man'. Heck, I'd argue he actually had more nuance when he first showed up then he did in his last chapter, that continued to paint him as an All Might obsessed weirdo (which isn't me saying he shouldn't hold AM up as an ideal, but maybe not have him remember his scent and sniff rocks--he could have just watched and seen which blood was AfO's).

There's very little reason to bring him back in, especially since he has no Quirk and would be super injured. The only reason to have him pop back up alive is to save All Might again and get a slightly better death scene. But then the one we just watched is rendered even worse because it was a waste of time.

And I guess Hori could just say he survived at the very end, but again what would be the point? To go back to jail? I don't see anyone but the main LoV getting off scot-free, so this would only make the situation look worse, since Stain actually tried to the Heroes (twice) and gets prison time, meanwhile the LoV who were helping AfO up until the very last minute get nothing. It would be equally weird to have him just pop up at the end and get a panel saying he was also rehabilitated when Hori never painted him as anything but a crazy killer. Like it'd need a bit more of an explanation, then i think Hori wants to spend time on.

IDK, I just think he could have given Stain's death a bit more oomph--mainly by giving a little flashback to his childhood. It would have helped with the theme of villains having been kids once, while also showcasing how much AM mattered to him.

But I guess we'll see how things go. Maybe Hori will surprise us and have Stain do something in the vestige world because AfO stole his Quirk. I doubt it but who the hell knows, Hori is unpredictable.

k before i start its jrwi because i can and i felt angsty so yeah im hurting my fav characters, probs some spoilers (the separation at the end is for those who want only angst no comfort)

Chip saw his body. He knew this was real. He didn't want to admit it. He had had his happiness, so why after everything? Why the fuck is this happening, Chip thought.

Chip ran over to the small boy they kept on the ship, a 12 year old. Chip loved him like a son. He knew he wasn't his dad, that he probably had a dad on Zero, and he had planned to take him back. Yet it was too late. Chip had gone entirely numb, any form of pain he felt and the tears that streamed down his face were irrelevant. The bastard had just stabbed him through the chest then threw his corpse to the side as though he was some toy that no longer gave it joy.

"OLLIE, PLEASE, HOLD ON, I-I GOTTA HAVE SOMETHING PLEASE!" Chip didn't notice the shake in his body, the cracks of his voice. He looked all through out his pockets. Nothing. The realization hit Chip hard; Ollie was going to die and the best he could do was hold onto him and watch.

He hugged Oliver so tight, apologizing for every little thing over and over and over. "I'm so sorry," he said. "It's all my fault," he said. Where were Gill and Jay? Why was it only him here? Why, why, WHY. He hugged Ollie until he no longer could feel his shallow breathing and pulse die down, and longer then that.

He wanted so badly to get up, kill the beast who did this. Maybe even find where ever Gill and Jay went, and tell them fuck them for not being here. Hell, he wanted to scream at Aster for letting someone who didn't need to die like this. But he just sobbed, unable to do anything.

Then he woke up, breathing feeling as shallow as Ollie's was. If his vision was focused, he could not tell. He just sat there. Until a certain someone handed him a water bottle.

"Miss Jay and Gillion went to bed early, and I didn't know how to wake you up. You seemed to be having a bad nightmare and I just figured you'd wake up from it sooner or later. Thirsty?" Ollie was there, infront of him, a real alive boy. Ollie seemed to notice how much Chip was shaking.

"...Your real." Chip kept repeating the phrase to himself until it made sense. "Your alive and I didn't fail you yet, right? You are real, right?" The fear in Chip's eyes scared him. He heard about Chip's curse, but he didn't know the side effects were this bad.

"Yeah, yeah I am. Have some water." Chip took the bottle, taking a sip, shaking a bit less now. Who knew that Chip wanting to hang out with Ollie would lead to a not fun sleepover disaster?

"Can...Can I hug you? I'm sorry, it's weird, I know, it's just.." Chip bit his lip, trying not to cry in front of Ollie. What he didn't know was Ollie had seen how wet his face had gotten. Ollie opened his arms, and Chip basically leapt in them, catching Ollie by surprise.

"That bad a nightmare?" Ollie pat Chip's back.

"I...I'm so sorry. I should have done something. I shouldn't have taken you so far from home. I'm so sorry Ollie. Your just a kid." Ollie was very concerned for how broken a man Chip was here, but kept hugging him.

"I've made a second home here with you Chip, you don't need to be sorry about that."

I never hated darklinas or Darkling. I ship them too. Atleast book or whole story should be good enough to even hate or like any character first of all which it never had😑. I never said that Rhaenicent is any healthy ship. Rhaenicent, Daemyra, alysmond , helaegon n majority of ships in hotd are problematic. You can like the villian and their reasons for becoming the villain but I would not say they didn't deserve their death or punishment n I would not give any apology reasons ' like no he wasn't the bad guy or he wasn't a villian'. And regarding ur take one darkling or Darklina, I don't hate Darkling but ye he's not among my fav villians or any good written at all. Not only him, I don't like any single character from that book.

characterization wise, i try my best to follow what canon's established for jude- but i take both the localized and original japanese versions into account because there's things i love about him in jp and eng. and even though these versions can differ significantly, i'm usually trying to find a middle ground between them or going with makes sense for jude on a situational basis. aka remembering the creators' original intent for him while trying to execute that in a way that feels natural. one goal inside my head is to make his dialogue believable to the point where we can go "yep that sounds just like him" in both eng and jp, whichever version of jude you're more familiar with (or both)!

verse wise, oh boy HAHA i have tons of AUs by now (as it should be), that's where most of the canon divergence part comes in for this blog. to sum things up here, x1 is canon compliant, x2 diverts from canon sometimes (e.g. certain plot points where i feel like it's needed, bad!end verse for jude), and all my other AUs are of course hella canon divergent. and in the meantime, during all of this, i'm trying to keep jude ic everywhere so he feels like jude, no matter where he gets yeeted goes.

he's almost normal expect when... he isn't regularly fed coffee/gets too cold/thinks about gels/not knowing the implications of tethering/being dense in general/and rip in pieces if you hurt his friends

speaking of the last point, the duality of his kindness vs his rare, scary rage ("beware the anger of a gentle man") which I sometimes explore, unsurprisingly

he's the opposite of special/wild/powerful characters AKA just boring at face value in comparison because being normal is a part of his character. and he's pretty reserved even though he's friendly and fairly easy to get along with (jude, the discord night theme to milla's discord light theme, the latter stands out and terrifies ppl while the former is standard LMAOO)

said boring-ness of jude is noted in canon too (e.g. other characters hardly being able to get a ruse out of him, his unexciting colosseum answers/interviews, his conventional taste in food). he also has common character traits like: trusts easily, nice by default, often unsure of himself. basically, he's weird sometimes and while he does have less common traits and a unique identity (e.g. being a med student who punches ppl when he needs to/scientist that still punches ppl when he needs to), that can still be 'too normal' in the sea of so many other characters and their varied tropes, even though it comes down to personal preference in the end. to summarize: one person's "this guy is so boring" is another person's "oh my god it's JUDE I'M DLFKJLDKJF" 💀😂

whenever the plot makes him angst/sad, i've seen (old) comments online that said they didn't enjoy that either [vs me completely winning in the bg when the plot does that while i cry :ratdance:]

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?

i played a few tales games before finally trying out x1 and x2- which, as a lot of you already know by now, i would've gotten to earlier if they'd been more available because i'm ps3-less :''') i remember seeing x1 and then x2 come out years ago, thinking they looked cool (aka going "oh the mc is a doctor? they sure are making characters older now, just like that blonde woman" LMFAOO) but feeling overwhelmed by the amount of tales stuff i missed back then, i never checked it out (but at least i've played it now, i probably only could've watched a playthrough back then and it just wouldn't be the same).

until january-ish of this year, where for some reason, i realized "ok i've tried a bunch of the newer tales games but i'm stuck and not feeling them rn- what else haven't i tried? oh yea x1" and then, to my complete unironic shock, proceeded to enjoy it immediately like i hadn't enjoyed in a game since forever. x1 is now one of my favs for sure, and so is x2- mainly because i love the characters in them. and on the other hand, i have few ultimate fav charas, and i realized jude was one of them as i played. that, coupled with the themes of the games, everything hit different so the inspo happened! for example, i'm still crying in jumilla to this day

and around the time of my x1 playthrough was also when i was thinking of returning to tumblr rp somehow, but even if i hadn't planned on doing that in advance, the writing inspo i felt from jude would've made me come back anyway. there was so much and i had to do something about it!

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?

so many things: chatting/plotting with mutuals, slowly replaying x1 and x2, getting caps/making icons and edits, rereading threads, taking a break to play other games/do other things (and coming back with more ideas/inspiration)

it also helps that jude is my only rp blog rn, but i've always been bad at managing multiple rp blogs because i naturally gravitate to one character and just pour everything i can into them HAHA pure concentrated effort moment

making AUs and getting to expand on jude's character has been so great too. it's the perfect thing since this blog is mainly continuity and plot driven. i love going beyond canon and yet tying things back to canon at the same time- so jude's development and stories continue. i'm discovering new things all the time, especially when things "just write themselves" because of the pre-existing context/plot that's already been established, and yet it's surprising in the best way (shai knows this especially KDJFDLK)

I’m a (fanfic) writer also! I love writing but I often struggle with coming up with ideas. I dont have a big following on tumblr (I dont publish my works here), which makes it difficult because I can’t really take reader requests.

I was wondering if you have any tips for coming up with writing topics when you’re stumped? Thank you, I really look up to your work.

Oh this is a fun message!! Ok sorry if i ramble, but i love talking about writing and craft! Im also gonna reblog a specific post of writing advice and encouragement that i adore.

I'd start with what's your favorite sort if fic to write - is it classic multi-chapter fics, oneshots, head canons? Which ones really stood out to you - what were their tropes, tags, the characters? Now, which of those you kind of liked, but something felt off? Was it the prompt, something in the plot, something in the characterization? And which ones peeved you so much you just had to click off - what about those annoyed you?

This will help you visualize what you look for in fanfic, and what sort of scenarios and characterization click with you. If you're writing a single character, that's much easier to work with than say, 10 (or 30~40 .... word to aspiring and new writing blogs ....... maybe give yourself a character limit orz........)

You'll find some characters come naturally to you, wether because they're your favorite or a character archtype you just "get". Some you'll love but still struggle with - I remember being so worried with writing Roose and Tywin from ASOIAF, because they're subtle and more complex. And honestly, I don't like my early work with them ... but I kept at it. You gotta keep at it. Now I'm pretty confident in writing them; it took a while to get there!

((Also I think all writers in general should consider what their strengths and flaws are - this can be hard to pin down objectively, especially after staring at your own work for hours! Think what your favorite parts of writing are. Which parts in your story are giving you that rush of excitement, and why? Which parts are you dreading to work on?))

I think some topics/scenes will jump at you and beg to be written, but it's annoying when you want to write your fav and you're drawing a blank. While requests can be great for this - I've gotten so many delightful ones - you also need to draw from your own creative well. So, how?

Reading other fic is a great inspiration. Don't be afraid to say someone directly inspired you - link to them and mention them! - and build off that. As I said earlier, what if you read a fic that had a great plot or scenario, buuuut you would've done something different? "What if" is a great starter. If you're writing reader insert stuff like this blog, draw from your own experiences in life. Or maybe there was something in the show/book/movie/etc that you really wanted to see, but it didn't happen. What if this character didn't die? What if this major event went differently? "What if" is the basis of all fanfic - besides smooching, that is.

(You can also take a prompt you read in one fandom fic and apply it to another! "Oh i love this reader insert story from Show A, how would my blorbos from Movie B respond in the same situation?")

And on that note, sometimes it's fun to write what personally comforts you and what's your personal fantasy. Requests revolving around family life and kids are easy because I love that shit, and it's something I'd think up on my own without prompting. Lists are great for this - what do you like to write best? What scenarios or characters are you curious about exploring? Brainstorm and make notes! Daydream! Discuss with other fandom friends! You don't have to sit down and chunk out a complete 2.5k+ word fic for every idea. Sometimes just the notes and brainstorming is enough, sometimes you'll wanna explore further.

I feel like most writers will understand that feeling when an idea just grabs them and they have to pursue it. Requests and suggestions are all well and good, but at the end of the day, write what grabs you. That's what you'll put your heart into and feel proud of. It may stay a 300 word drabble or sprawl into multiple chapters of madness, or fall somewhere in between - it's your fic!

This is mostly me ranting about my mental problems and what happened in the manga with Gojo. If you’re alright with that keep on reading, if not- there‘s the door.

I Wonder if anyone of my moots / non-moots feels the same or how u guys cope with this shit. (Or relatable shit, just stop reading if this seems cringe to you or something, I’m mostly just venting because I’m interested if anyone experienced the same/similar things.)

Honestly I should’ve known that JJK ends this way or better said I knew he‘d die- though I didn’t think this way, idk how to feel about it, it feels like there is something missing, though we got a little bit of aftermath or „explanation“ or whatever the fuck u call it but at least to me it still feels off.

Im probably delusional if I say I still hope we‘ll see him again though the signs are pretty bad, for someone that attached a lot to him, for example taking him as comfort character, due to real life being a bitch too I‘m really struggling with enjoying stuff again, like fanfics-Art and everything related.

It pisses me off and I feel number as days go by, I feel sad I can’t enjoy the fanfics of my fav authors like before anymore, sad that Art doesn’t do anything to me anymore and annoyed to be back in this stupid mindset I tried so hard avoiding.

I Wonder if any of you guys dropped JJK for good after shit went down?

How do you cope with something that took away all your happiness as it left? (Not particularly only in regard of the manga, life in general.)

On another note: I‘m trying to find stuff again to help me get tru this state I’m in rn, sometimes I read fluff and it gives me a little bit of happiness that feels nice but as soon as reality hits again everything’s dark again, I know I should go to therapy but I don’t have the funds for it right now and honestly I don’t even know if this is worth it at all but I like to try and be happy again or at least get myself fixed enough so I can somewhat enjoy life again without crying every 5 minutes if something reminds me of stuff that happened in the past that I can’t change anyways, this is so damn tiring and I’m so sick of this. Why is mental health a thing and why are feelings even real.

Maybe I‘ll do a second blog for shit like this in the future because it’s quite… different >.>

there should be a word for this level of dedication to bits that ""humour"" is derived from the perceived weirdness of the bit. like this dude doesn't actually care for Maizono. that's just not actually what this is about. I emberassingly dedicated myself to role-playing as a DR character for most of my middle school life, i can say with full confidence that there simply isn't enough to Maizonos character to "love". shes literally the first to die in game about murder mysteries. he doesn't actually love her, or care about her, at least any more than any other fictional character (with more screentime) that he enjoys. he chose her, likely at least partially on a whim, to ride or die for the spectacle of it.

and like, that's what this is for. it's for the spectacle. if you actually loved an anime character, if you actually enjoyed her writing and her personality and daydreamed all the time about getting to meet her and date her, you wouldnt act like this. because if you did for even a minute youd realizd that taping her face to a printer would make her like you less. so your not doing it "for her". if forced to switch into a new life where he could never publicly display "affection" for her, he'd forget about her within a week, likely just doing the exact same thing with a different anime girl. 99% of the reason he does any of the this is because he enjoys the feeling he gets when someone perceives him as odd for doing it. and like, yeah duh, everyone's like that at least a little. but when it gets to the point that your spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars just to continue to one up your "weirdness", it's too late. because now every dollar spent, every picture taped up to the wall, every foot of cardboard is now a raw number that you can keep track of your "dedication". it's like a cookie clicker effect on your brain, everytime the number goes up you get some enjoyment out of it, but eventually that enjoyment dwindles until you get a REALLY big poster and that makes it go up again, so on and so on.

so you pick a bare bones character to publicly go crazy for and never actually care for her. going back to what I said about her barely having any story/character, that probably helps the perceived spectacle of it all in his eyes. like there are genuinely interesting characters in dangan ronpa, ones with unique and interesting stories, characters whose actions are compelling and make for a good story. there are fans of Komaeda who could write real, not a meme essays about him and his character. but if this tiktok dude picked an actually interesting character, he'd be in trouble. his image wouldn't be maintainable. him printing 100 pictures would be put next to someone who could actually discuss and analyze their fav for hours and then the jig would be up, people would recognize the other person as "the bigger fan" and he wouldn't get the bordering-on-an-exhibitionism-fetish rush that he does now.

so, like, sure. I hope this guy gets a kick outta the attention. i hope people follow him on tiktok and he keeps spending 100 dollars on shit that doesn't make him happy. and then when the attention dwindles, when he runs out of people to flaunt his ugly fucking house to like a MLM runs out of idiots to sell to, I hope he realizes how stupid it was. i hope he sits around for months, no longer posting photos of his printers and no longer buying new cutouts, but doesn't take the old ones down. because taking then down is admitting the bit was never that funny, was never worth the cost. and then I hope he finally does decide to actually throw it all out. take down the shitty tape on his walls and just get rid of it. I hope he has to awkwardly avoid the topic around his friends cause he knows they'll tease him about it, know they'll remind him of buying a useless cardboard cutout for hundreds of dollars for a character he doesn't like. and then I hope enough time passes that all of it is truly behind him and all that's left is a mild regret. or none of that could happen, I don't really care except I do know for sure he's going to hell when he dies.

chiakane soooo crazy. never been my main ship but ill consider anything. they r most interesting from a doomed standpoint to me...... akane as a remnant vs chiaki's existence as ai and (counting dr3 as canon which im not usually interested in doing) death before the tragedy. i think of them in almost a similar vein to the tragedy between madoka and homura except if homura was replaced by a kyoko who's a little worse w emotions. chiaki's entire being has become dedicated in one way or another to serving class 77 even if that means sacrificing herself over and over and akane has had every single meaningful relationship (or what SHOULD have been) ripped away or twisted and never having even really existed and she is so afraid of going through this again she doesn't even try and have relationships she cares about deeply (or at all!) that aren't w her siblings. so she would be PISSED to fall in love w chiaki who is already dead and doomed to die again. ive never believed the mastermind akane theory people talk abt at least fully but it IS interesting. i can make a killer chiakane au w it. w madoka magica parallels even. but ur right they can also be very very sweet. i think they would play super smash bros and akane would kinda suck at it (spams the buttons and thinks it's a pro strategy) but chiaki would let her win every once or twice. akane hears the rumours abt chiaki dating some random reserve course guy and sends the "im so happy for you and your ugly fucking boyfriend I'm serious" text after swearing to herself she doesn't even gaf

YES yes yes yes!! I am a HUGE Akane fan. She's the only character I have a real little collection of merch for (though that's partly just because so much merch excludes Mukuro). I didn't really attach to her the first time I played SDR2 but over time I've grown SO fond and defensive of her, she is such a sad and complex character who deserved to be treated better by her writers (and have less racist tropes associated with her. Spike Chunsoft. cough cough) and still deserves to be treated better by the fandom.

And I think you got it RIGHT on the money why I'm inclined towards Chiaki/Akane, actually. Akane has lived such a dark life that not only does she not know how to ask for help or rely on others, she doesn't even realize she needs to - for her, this is just how the world is. Akane, to me, is like the equivalent of a housecat looking at their humans and going, "They don't even know how to hunt. They're all so stupid. I have to go kill mice so they can eat. Are they even bathing themselves properly?? Licking time. Morons." She's incredibly resilient and smart within the context of the VERY SPECIFIC lifestyle she's lived.

And something really appeals to me about someone who solely exists to help people meeting Akane, thinking they can 'save' her, and slowly coming to realize that she is not dumb or unskilled just because she isn't skilled in the way they value. Learning that intelligence isn't a measure of worth and seeing & valuing Akane for who she is - and, at the same time, helping her see that some of the things she's gone through are truly, deeply traumatic, and helping her learn how to rely on others for the first time...that shit gets me. so post game, i think he can finally start to slowly put down those walls and act as a middle ground between both extremes. he can heal, he can learn how to trust again.

so when i made this post i was thinking about supernatural. other stories that are still rotting my brain even though they ended years ago and i really should be over it by now include (but aren’t limited to) the magnus archives, game of thrones, naruto, and pirates of the caribbean. all of these are stories i love(d) but they either ended badly or have some massive but easily fixable flaws which is why they drive me insane. 

the short(ish) version: (disclaimer that this is only my opinion which is of course objectively correct and should be taken as gospel)

supernatural went on for too long, ended badly, and only ever scratched the surface of everything it could’ve been

the magnus archives seasons 1-4 are damn near perfect and season 5 is… there. 

game of thrones season 8. (do i even need to say anything about this one!?)

naruto suffers because of kishimoto’s misogyny and because the wrong characters die/survive

pirates of the caribbean should’ve been a trilogy and we all know elizabeth should’ve ended up a pirate

supernatural starts out as a monster of the week thing but then the plot thickens and you’ve got angels and demons and lucifer and the end of the fucking world and even though the later seasons have their moments, i’m a “supernatural should’ve ended with season 5” truther. 

and don’t even get me started on the winchesters. it’s like… you have a deliciously fucked up family dynamic, including codependency, incest-subtext, and two brothers who would end the world for each other. god as an absentee father-figure who will not save you. free will. characters that have witnessed history. an angel who almost stepped on the first fish crawling out of the sea, who dragged a man out of hell and fell for him in every sense of the word. the humanity of the monstrous. the inhumanity of the divine. magic. americana. mythology. empty roads and neon signs and dilapidated motels. Death who tells dean that he will reap god when the time comes. i know i’m not being particularly coherent but no one can tell me that what we actually got was the best they could do when they had ALL THIS to work with. and the fandom gets it. the fic and meta writers get it. i’ve seen so many transcendent takes by supernatural girlies whose third eye is wide fucking open. i know it’s possible. supernatural’s problem is that it was written by straight us-american men and aired on the cw. in conclusion, make it darker and grittier and let dean say fuck. 

that being said, even though it was garbage storytelling, i will never forget the wonderful night of mass hysteria that was the 5th of november, and i almost choked laughing when i saw dean get nailed by a vampire clown and sam in the shittiest wig imaginable. probably not the intended audience reaction though. (you’re better off just ignoring that 15.20 happened at all)

the magnus archives (season 5): oh boy where do i even begin? i rarely talk about this anymore because it just makes me so angry and i’m not having any fun. i like to pretend that season 5 doesn’t exist which works excellently because while the first 4 seasons are a cohesive narrative whole, season 5 feels like it’s tacked on at the end. (“do i like this story more if i just ignore the ending happened” is a very good question to ask yourself regarding the quality of a finale).

the magnus archives season 5 has several problems, some of which don’t even concern the narrative but are instead fuckery related to the story. i’ll get those out of the way first.

first of all, the fandom is the most vile cesspit of people with no media comprehension i’ve ever had the misfortune to be in. among such hits as “why is Bad Person treated with sympathy” and “why is the horror podcast about horror and not about gay shipping”, what bothers me most are the headcanons treated as law. 

i’ve personally witnessed takes like “daisy is bad representation for butch lesbians” (daisy is not canonically a lesbian or butch. the fandom made that up), and “jon is brown therefore xyz portrayal is racist” (again, jon’s skin color is never mentioned. him being brown is just the most popular HEADcanon). why am i telling you this in this already way too long post? this might be conjecture but i really believe that if the fandom wasn’t so godawful, the story could’ve been better. the creators caved to fandom pressure. this is one of the best examples of why there needs to be a boundary between audience and creator and why the fandom should have absolutely NO say whatsoever when it comes to what happens in the story.

the other thing that’s a bit meta and not in the story per se are the promises the creators made. jonny sims said two things: 

1. the story will end in tragedy: it didn’t. the ending was ambiguous and i wanted it to leave me devastated the way the s4 finale did. instead it left me indifferent and vaguely confused. 

2. there will be no romance and if there is, it’s not going to be the focus of the story: so that was a fucking lie. season 5 is nothing but jonmartin shoved into your face for 40 episodes. a lot of aros, aces and people who were there for the horror and not for the shipping were understandably disappointed

now, as for the actual story ,i’m a “jon should’ve had a corruption arc” truther. (here's a thing i did). i think it would fit with his character development since he’s been getting more monstrous with every season. elias has been manipulating jon into becoming an avatar of the Beholding and ending the world, and jon hates him for it. jon kills elias and takes his place and if they just stuck with that, with elias being destroyed by the god he created and jon ascending to be the fucked up evil king of a ruined world. fuck, it would’ve been so good. it would’ve been so delicious i’m going insane every time i think about it. this is the secret good season 5 that lives in my head.

instead they went with parallel universes, which is a concept that you probably shouldn’t introduce 3 episodes before the ending. it’s not a bad concept at all. they could’ve done it justice. but making parallel fucking universes the thing on which your finale hinges even though you’ve barely introduced them? yeah i’m gonna go ahead and call that an ass pull. it turns out that the Web has been manipulating everyone blah blah who cares the important part is this: the Web wins. the Web gets what it wants and this could’ve worked if it was framed and presented to us LIKE A TRAGEDY. it’s not. it’s presented like a bittersweet ending. the morality of the finale is extremely protagonist-centric (and by season 5 i started to hate everyone except jon). the protagonists decide to release the Fears, dooming a potentially infinite number of people to a life of horror, but fuck those guys, right? the important thing is that the protagonists are okay. i’m going to fight jonny sims in a parking lot.

one last thing. jonmartin fucking sucks. but it doesn’t have to. jon and martin don’t know each other. they’re completely incompatible. they’re together out of guilt and circumstance. they’re dysfunctional and they’re very realistically dysfunctional. i personally ship jonelias. don’t worry this is not about a shipping war, but one thing i’ve noticed is that jonelias is fucked up in an “i’ve made you a monster and then a god. i’ve used you to bring about the apocalypse” kind of way which i’m guessing not many people have personal experience with. jonmartin is fucked up in a “we’re not communicating and we’re only together because neither of us wants to be alone” way. that’s relatable. hell, that’s depressingly common. jon doesn’t love martin, he just wants to cling to his humanity. martin doesn’t love jon, he loves the idea of jon. THAT’S POTENTIAL! take that and work with it. what did they do instead? gave me a pairing of two people who absolutely should not be together, shoved it into my face for dozens of episodes, and then portrayed jealousy and miscommunication like something cute and romantic. literally what the fuck are they on.

game of thrones: *deeep sigh* ok there are about a billion 3hour video essays detailing everything wrong with season 8 but the main things for me are:

jon is a targaryen. he’s azor ahai. his is the song of ice and fire. and NONE OF THAT FUCKING MATTERS OH MY GOD  AT LEAST LET JON DO SOMETHING LITERALLY ANYTHING EXCEPT STANDING AROUND REPEATING THE SAME TWO LINES AD NAUSEAM.

daenerys descent into madness and villainy could’ve been great if it had been properly set up instead of done in a minute (this is not an exaggeration. her character goes from “slightly mentally unstable” to “war criminal putting a city of innocent people to the torch” in ONE minute. i counted.)

i read the books and euron greyjoy is so fucking cool in the books. i don’t know who the fuck that other guy is but it certainly ain’t him.

arya killing the night king and bran becoming king. i wish i could say something funny or insightful but i genuinely have no words.

naruto: it’s been a while since i watched naruto. i’ve seen plenty of male writers being shitty but i’ve never seen misogyny drag a story down quite this much. personally, i’m done making excuses for this shit. if you can’t write women, you’re a bad writer. period. 

the problem with naruto is that the women are literally just... there. doing absolutely fuck all and being generally useless. this is not even a matter of social justice, this is a matter of storytelling. even if you’re the biggest macho dudebro around you’ll have to admit that one third of your cast standing around and being incompetent doesn’t make for a very interesting story, does it now?

and then there’s the matter of madara being nerfed in favor of kaguya. yeah… that one was an ass pull.

but what bothers me most is that the wrong characters die or don’t die respectively. some examples:

hinata should’ve died (instead of “almost died”) when pain attacked konoha. it would’ve made her sacrifice more meaningful and she would’ve come back one way or another. in my opinion she should’ve stayed dead for good because her arc was mostly done by that point and she doesn’t really do much after that except cheer on naruto (see misogyny above)

when madara fought the five kage, he almost killed all of them. keyword almost. i get that tsunade is a good healer but that fight would’ve been more meaningful if someone (literally any ONE of the kage) had actually died.

gai should’ve died. listen, you can’t build up the 8th gate as this super special technique that you can do only once because it costs your life and then not have gai die. it cheapens the entire thing. what was the fucking point? 

neji should’ve LIVED. a monumental part of his character arc was realizing that he’s worth just as much as the main family and that he doesn’t have to be subservient to hinata. and then he sacrifices himself for hinata. yeah that felt like one step forward two steps back. 

in conclusion: kishimoto needs to drink his respect women juice and learn when to kill characters and when to let them live.

pirates of the caribbean: i tend to ignore that part 4 and 5 even exist. please let the franchise die i am begging.

i don’t have that many examples of wasted potential but you can’t tell me that PIRATE KING elizabeth swann would stay on land being a good housewife. fuck no.

went through your karen tag recently and omg how does it feel to have the most correct takes. i genuinely don't understand people who claim to like karen but then also want her to have ended up with gr*h*m. like he sucks so bad and personally i got the impression that they toned it down in the show but in the book the way he acts about her abortion is absolutely disgusting like. just throw out the whole man at this point. "she'll realise she wants to be a mother" fuck off and die.

thank youu for appreciating my takes 😌Yeah I do think his character is generally flattened/not as fleshed out in the show compared to the book also you don’t get monologues from every character in the show like you do in the book his internal monologue at points is like so… yikes.. to me. Literally positions himself as a victim for Karen not reciprocating his love for her and not wanting the life he wants for them, the whole bitter “women always seem to come out on top (unlike poor disenfranchised beta males like me)” thing like it was giving meninist energy at times. And then like you said everything about his reaction to her abortion is just awful and you read in the book how awful it made Karen feel and the dehumanizing element of how he ended up viewing her.. like I honestly don’t get why people downplay how bad it was whether in their minds or when talking about the ship. Especially since tjr has her flaws in terms of feminism and so does djats, but I do actually think their storyline was meant to showcase a more realistic/dangerous side to a type of romance you see portrayed a lot with a self-possessed woman who wants to be non-monongomous and free and not marry or have children, and a guy who is like a white Knight to her and convinces her she actually wants those things/needs to change to his idea of womanhood. I’m glad this story never went there and took the “love conquers all” approach, and that it was shown as something that would inevitably implode. (Which is why I find it very hilarious that there are people who read the book and go “the moral of the story is that because Daisy and Billy are framed as not being able to work as a functional relationship rn / are as dysfunctional and messy as they are they should not be shipped romantically” and then go “Karen and Graham are so wholesome and perfect wish they got their happy ending :(((“ like those are both flawed relationships where love that was there (from Graham to Karen which she did not reciprocate in the book, between Billy and Daisy who both explicitly admit that they were in love with each other reiterating both those points because some takes I’ve seen um,,) didn’t out way problems that were there. You can ship it or not based on what’s compelling to you (for me toxic twin flames mutually pining and sublimating through their art >>>> whatever that is any day of the week). 

I also don’t really understand how people can love Karen and love them and definitely not how they can want the ship to be her endgame… I’m not going to say something as extreme as that they can’r genuinely like her while liking it, I mean I ship my favs with trash men all the time and I tend to have my reasons that I’m cognizant of for why the dynamic appeals to me. But these people definitely enjoy her character in a very different way than I do / have very different priorities than mine regarding her and I do find myself side eyeing more than a little bit. Nice guy pursuer ships tend to attract the most insufferable people to go hard for them (show! Eddie x Camila is another example of this, and I think there’s a similar tendency to be over sympathetic to Graham and show! Eddie for not getting to *win*. Which on it’s own annoying, but especially if I’m seeing someone express that this is how they feel but then call Daisy pathetic for her feelings for Billy I am BITING. Especially because, pathetic how??? Billy is obsessed with her 😭) 

I can’t bring myself to be particularly upset that Graham’s *feelings* were given less air time in the show than in the book, regardless of effects on the story or losing certain scenes. I think the specific line they had him say in the show (literally telling her she will be alone forever because she doesn’t want to have kids / have the type of white picket fence life he wants fuck off!) struck a lot of people as more obviously terrible than his response in the book but like… his response - and his whole mentality around it - in the book is terrible! I think some of the various crit about the show making certain characters worse is because the chars in the show aren’t able to justify/narrativize their actions and motivations and everything to the audience in the same way, and that effecting how people perceive them, more than the characters actually acting/being worse than they’re written to be in the book and this is an example to me, and I kind of judge people a little for having so much sympathy for Graham in the book or show (like your favs are your favs, but I’ve yet to see someone who loves his character be appropriately critical of him not saying they don’t exist I just haven’t seen it. and those types of fans are rarer for chars in his archetypes, you see more of people wanting to call them pure and unproblematic cinnamon rolls. And like I said same goes for how people tend to perceive him and Karen as the “unproblematic couple”).
