Professor Gadling being The Guy historical clubs/societies call when they need help with a demonstration/project they're working on and want to ensure they're getting it right.
No one looks into it too deeply Because Reasons, but yes. Hob almost always knows the answer, and if he doesn't he'll get back to them on it after a day or two because he has "friends" who might know the answer?
(Friends from Dream to other immortal/unknowable beings he's met over the years he can ask.)
Or.
Those times Hob's just Some Guy who happened to wander into idk, some demonstration or other having to do with medieval weapons or something else Because Reasons and is like.
"Um, excuse me?" and Is very Hob about correcting whatever the demonstrator's doing wrong because that way lies strained/pulled muscles if not worse.
(Goodness knows he had it drilled into his head way back when it was a matter of literal life and death, but that's a story for another day.)
Just like.
Hob being Ye Olde Google?
From the medieval weapons thing to ye olde recipes or idk, farming or things to do with textiles and so on he's sure to have the answer they're looking for. An old(e) family recipe for healing balms and so on.
...Frick.
(That time Hob did the thing with the Pottery lesson and the Patrick jokes some of the students didn't get but the other professors/staff certainly did because lol jokes because there was this dark-haired stranger and Looks being exchanged when someone started humming the song and look, I cannot help it, I am sorry okay. /o\)
Also, like.
Little things for his classes to make them more ~interactive or hands on and ~fun!!1! the way some of my teachers used to do?
(My German teacher in HS arranged for us to a do a pot-luck of ~authentic cuisine post-finals to celebrate and so on as a Treat. That kind of thing.)
*hands*
Also, though, okay.
Office pot-lucks and Hob gets asked to bring in some specific dish that he claims is another of those old family recipes and it's something that uses spices/herbs that are harder to source than others so of course he grows them himself and has a little windowsill herb garden/full-on garden wherever he lives doing gardening-y things while maybe humming to himself because soothing/relaxing.
Same goes for medicinal things, I'd think?
(And sometimes on sunny days there's this cat lounging around - one that doesn't sometimes wind up wearing a tiny little flower crown when Hob's feeling like a troll/~whimsical, giving him this really? look, even though it doesn't shake the cursed flower crown off or what have you.
Also maybe there's a raven around somewhere chilling/seeming to heckle Hob while Hob chat/snarks back and I've definitely lost the original thread here, but yes???)

I've seen a bit of your essays about egypt references in sumeru. Will you do one for each character? Asking because I really wanna know what you think of Alhaitham, Deshret and Nabu Malinka
Oh Wow I'm so glad folks are still finding those! (also so sorry it took me like a month to respond)
So I double checked and I only got around to posting Nilou, Cyno, and Apep on Tumblr. I thought I vaguely touched on King Deshret just before 3.0 launch but I think that was just in a comment on someone else's post about Sumeru and Egypt. Same thing with Candace unfortunately.
I'd have to look into Al-Haitham a little more. Other than his name being Arabic there doesn't seem to be much linking him to the Egypt side of things. Most things from the Akademiya are Hindi inspired and I don't have enough knowledge in that area to feel comfortable assuming links between things.
For Nabu Malikata it was a waiting game. We knew about the flower goddess in 3.0, but it's only been the last two area updates where we've even learned her name. Now that we have all of it. . . It actually doesn't make it that much easier. Nabu implies Mesopotamian gods might be involved meaning there love myths are on the table along with the OsirisXIsis myth which would be the easy answer (if it was like a role swapped version lol), then you have the Tanit and Babel dropping Torah references left and right. On top of all that since we know Nilou is supposed to symbolize Nabu and Nilou has Hindi connections in her stuff we can't rule out Hinduism from our list of old religious sources.
Basically Mihoyo pulled from every middle eastern primary (hopefully) source they could get their hands on. And didn't care which they put on some characters. Characters like Cyno or Candace are easy to break down into Anubis and Horus. But even King Deshret has other things mixed in there. Like they legit replaced Amun-Ra with Deshret. Like they redesigned the eye of Ra to mean King Deshret in Teyvat. I'm guessing because Ra is so well known they couldn't use the name? But it just makes things messier.
So short answer Candace, Deyha, and King Deshret are definitely on the table for me to finally post their breakdowns. (Seeing as Candace's character quest or hangout apparently isn't happening). Nabu Malikata's breakdown and King Deshret and Nabu's love story on the other hand are in time out until if figure out if they're even an Egyptian myth or a Sumerian one.
And no time frame for any of these. It took me a month to get to this ask. I'm not exactly the fastest historical researcher at the moment.

Well, I'm just reading about the Chamberlain–Kahn Act and boy-howdy is this something I don't recall learning about in the WWI unit in high school.
Apparently, the boys in the armed forces liked to patronize ladies of the evening, and kept coming back with STIs.
So they passed an act that provided them with more acceptable curricular activities...
Tumblr media
Vague wording like "reasonably suspected" has never gone badly for anyone, right?
The best part is that I found out about it because apparently it's come to the attention of The Right. Which is horrifying.
Everyone was "ooh handmaid's tale" a few years back, right? Shoulda kept quiet, they were listening.

1300 new words in the "In Fog" short!
Muahaha!
It is at a little over 2k now.
Not entirely sure where it's going yet but it's looking like it'll be bloody and sad. So, that's fun.

“A blazing passion permeated all intellectual activities. It is an untold, perhaps incommunicable story of how mind and heart could merge into one. Immersed in complicated legal discussions, they could at the same time feel the anguish of the Divine Presence that abides in exile. In endeavoring to unravel some perplexity raised by a seventeenth-century commentary on a commentary on the Talmud, they were able in the same breath to throb with sympathy for [Am Yisrael] and all afflicted people. Study was a technique for sublimating feeling into thought, for transposing dreams into syllogisms, for expressing grief in difficult theoretical formulations, and joy by finding a solution to a difficult passage in Maimonides. Tension of the soul found an outlet in contriving clever, almost insolvable, riddles. In inventing new logical devices to explain the Word of God, they thrilled with yearning after the Holy. To contrive an answer to gnawing doubts with the highest joy. Indeed, there was a whole world of subdued gaiety and sober frolic in the playful subtleties of their pilpul [dialectic].
Their conscious aim, of course, was not to indulge in self-expression— they were far from being intent upon exploiting the Torah— but humbly to partake of spiritual beauty. Carried away by the mellow, melting chant of Talmud-reading, one’s mind soared high in the pure realm of thought, away from the world of facts and worries, away from the boundaries of the here and now, to a region where the Divine Presence listens to what Jews create in the study of His Word.”
— Abraham Heschel

shout-out to people who fit the demonised DID stereotypes seen in movies & other media:
if you have violent &/or aggressive alters, i love you.
if you have complete blackout amnesia between alters, i love you.
if you have little to no communication between alters, i love you.
if your switches are overt & "distressing to witness", i love you.
if you've ever been called "scary", a "freak", or even "evil" for how your DID presents, i love you so much.
your experiences are real. you do not have to sugar-coat your disorder to make it more palatable for others. your brain helped you survive as best it could, so i hope you will find peace & healing when the worst is over. 🤍

inspired by this wonderful art made by @puppetmaster13u
So, Danny, cemented king and practically father of the Blob Ghosts and certified little shit.
Has found something new to play with.
For you see, despite his various kidnappings by the GIW Danny was never aware of there being a League of Earth's mightiest heroes at all. He off-handily mentioned them to Henry, who was now genuinely jobless because even though he never got told he knew he was jobless for helping Danny escape and Henry?
Henry did not want any part of this, he's just a civilian he doesn't want to meet the Justice League of all people!
Sadly, Danny did not care at all in the slightest.
Henry was then reminded of why Danny was valued by the GIW and why he also king class ghost entity (the only other known king class was the Ghost King who they barely have any information of). Because he easily, cleared the distance between Amity Park and Metropolis.
Henry, unfortunately, was not used to traveling at such speeds and was left hanging limply in Danny's arm as everything started spinning and thinking he might puke.
Danny, being the child that he is at heart, immediately starts calling out Superman's name. Superman, predictably and unsurprisingly, hears this and comes over questioning who was calling him.
Danny decides to be even more of a little shit by speaking in ghost speak even though just earlier he called out Superman's name in clear English. Henry, the de-facto translator, is out of commission right now so Superman is really just left guessing here.
Unless, you go with the fact that Kyrptonian is a dead language, and since Superman can speak and knows Kyrptonian, Danny's ghost speak is automatically translated to Kyrptonian.
Superman is, understandably, stumped by this occurrence and he may or may not form the idea that Danny might be a Kyrptonian.
Danny then gently places Henry down on the roof, pats him on the head, tells a few blob ghosts to keep an eye on their new littlest sibling while Dad has fun.
Then he turns to Superman, with the most feral, shit eating grin on his face. Cracks his knuckles, and then tells Superman that they're going to have a fight.
He wasn't asking, and before Superman could say anything he's already been punched through the air. Not that it hurt, really, mostly took him by surprise, but now Superman is now in a fight with what may or may not be a Kryptonian.
