Guess who fell right smack back into BATFAMILY feelings hell?  Who has two thumbs and really thought they were truly out of the DC game, that it had been like ten years since they’d read a single comic, that they were finally safe from crying about stupid bats and birds?  Yeah, that’s right, this nerd.  And now I’m waking up and choosing violence on the rest of you by throwing every I’m Having Dick Grayson Feelings Fic at you that I can find, because this fandom is fantastic for it.   This list will skew towards my fave, but I hope there will be some good Jason, Tim, Damian, Cass, and Steph fic for anyone who wanders by for them!  You just have to scroll for a second first. I probably tend towards a slighty softer view than canon always provides (I will grab hold of Nightwing #100 with both hands and a death grip, though, and you can’t take Dick & Bruce hugs away from me now) but that’s what fic is for!  All the emotional resolution the source material cannot give us itself and I am GOING to inhale all of it like it’s oxygen and I’m on a run.  And then shove it at everyone I can while crying on them, too. 🍂🍁🎃 Autumn-Themed Batfam Fic Reccs 🎃🍁🍂

The season is getting a little colder and the season is turning towards winter. The nights longer and the need for hot drinks stronger. This is my favourite time of year and one that just invites curling up with some reading material. In celebration of my favourite season, I thought I'd recc my favourite autumn vibes Batfam fics.

These fics are all completed and available for free on AO3. They all lean horror (Halloween is fastly approaching! 🦇), with some of them being darker than others. I love horror so that's where I tend to stray. Hope you enjoy! Welcome to Beggars' Bones - Bridgesburn - Length: 143k - Genre: Thriller, "True" Crime, Kidnapping in a Creepy Small Town

"Welcome to Beggars' Bones" is the epitome of what I think of when I think of a perfect story for a bitter autumn night. It reads like an expertly crafted thriller and perfect for those who love a realistic horror story. The basic premise is that Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian are on a road trip when Dick's car breaks down. He sends Tim and Damian to go get help and it goes absolutely horribly from there.

Mind the tags because the story hits on real themes and is intense. It draws to mind movies like "Silence of the Lambs" and "Misery" and makes you think twice about stopping in a small town.

Vrykolakas - @chemical-processes - Length: 34k - Genre: Horror, Monsters, Having Your Son for Dinner

My first recc was horror based in reality and this recc is horror based in all the things that go bump in the night. Timothy Drake is not okay. Timothy Drake is not safe. Timothy Drake doesn't have anyone to tell this to, especially not his parents. Read this one if you love a story about a terrifying monster and are not afraid of some gore. It's a bloody good time.

To Hear, To See, To Smile - @jube514 & @salparadiselost - Length: 8.6k - Genre: Light Horror, Monster Kids, Bruce's Horrifically Fierce Adoption Instinct

Is it too pretentious to recommend my own fic? Perhaps, but I'm not known for my humility. I wrote this fic with Jube and it's perfect for the Halloween season. The loose premise is that Bruce has acquired children in the form of eldritch horrors and he is well on his way of getting one more. Although his children are all monsters, it's on the lighter side.

when doves cry - @silk-scarlet-ribbons - Length: 13k - Genre: Grief, Death, When a Memory is as Fresh and Festering as a Wound

This is one of the ones that's making it in through autumn vibes. It's about grief and ghosts that form immediately after death. It's very psychological and a deep scrape into Tim's grieving head before he even realises he's grieving. The horror in this is slow and it sets in like the decay of a human body. It's so deliciously creeping and will have you shivering even if there's no ghosts except for the one's in Tim's mind. The Little Neighbor - @oberonbronze - Length: 27k - Genre: Horror, Vampires, a Little Grave in the Dark and Mysterious Woods

This one is the newest on this list because, well, it posted as I was making this list and I stopped to swallow it all in one go. This one features one Dick trying to bond with his new little brother, Jason, by exploring the woods behind Wayne Manor. Nothing could possibly go wrong! I would encourage you to read without getting too deep in the tags, because it sets you up for maximum twists. It's a true horror feature that reminds me of Hereditary and Rosemary's Baby, so if you like something along those lines just go in blind! it's life after death (roll the credits) & when the bodies hit the floor - nashequilibrium - Length: 6k & 7k - Genre: Supernatural Horror, Siblinghood, Spooky Stories Told Around a Campfire Two for the price of one! I recommend both of these stories for those who love lighter horror more in the vein of Scooby Doo. Both of these fics feature sibling pairs - Dick & Jason in one and Steph & Damian in the other - investigating some mysterious happenings. These are both fun little romps and the dialogue is excellent.

Finally...

Not quite a recc, but I know a lot of people like to know what I've been up to, me and @spookyprime have been working on a Batman fancomic together and we are about ready to start posting it. Friday Fic Recs

Today, I bring a smattering of assorted Tim Drake rarepairs. The most common of which has a little over 250 fics in its AO3 tag and the least common less than 10. These are arranged in ascending order of wordcount and all feature some pining and/or feelings realization.

The Day Tim Figured It Out by Overanalyzer - Tim/Bart Allen

After Tim came out as bi, this was bound to happen. This one entertains me greatly. A little over 1.2k words of Tim freaking out over the fact that Bart is, apparently, hot. Not only that, he's been hot! for awhile! I love Kon's begrudging crisis support and Tim's suffering. A lovely work!

The question: When you're crushing on your best friends, who do you talk to about it? Tim's pining, Bart's pining, Kon's pining, they're all pining! This one's cute! I love how exasperated everyone who isn't named Tim, Bart, or Kon is. Everyone can see it except them and I really enjoy the different types of support demonstrated here. It's very entertaining!

ARIA MATH by NEOCULTUREDAUS - Tim/Sebastian Ives

Tim, for all his time as a detective, has a sinking horrible realisation that he’s fucked up. Big time. This fic really makes me smile! Robin meets Sebastian Ives and learns something Tim Drake isn't supposed to know. Tim and Ives are genuinely adorable here. I love Tim's perspective on everything and his screw up is really endearing! It's very cute!

Okay, so Repletion by sardnoic-sprite is rlly good. Actually lol, im providing analyzations + some minor info and ideas on the 2.0 version of the fic to sprite rn. In this one, Uncle Edward does exist and is a certified asshole and abuser. He tries to control Tim and keep him away from the Bats and threatens to hurt Tim real bad if the Bats try to contact him.

Zugzwang by sardonic sprite is rlly good too! Very hurty. Much angst. Ra's captures the batfam and challenges Tim to a game of chess. Each move is dangerous. A small mistake puts any of the Bats at risk. And Tim has to predict which batfam member will get hurt depending on which chess piece he moves.

And the whole series of Celebrity Batwaynes by sardonic-sprite is rlly good too! It had me cracking up so much. But ofc there's angst there too, but mostly crack and i adore this series with my life. It's about the Gotham vigilantes, some rogues, and the Waynes doing internet challenges like Buzzfeed quizzes and other stuff too.

My Mummy Has Tattoos by I_is_a_fangirl_yee is v v angsty. And yes, im being prejudiced rn but what im not being prejudiced abt is the fact that i screamed out loud in class while beta-ing this fic.

Now, The Dream Of Flight by A_Canceled_Stamp is an excellent fic I will never stop yakking about. The plot is literally just Tim falling off a building. But the writing? The emotions captured within the writing, the pure act of storytelling through actions described by text is something out-of-the-world.

I adore Instead Of All The Colors I Saw by SilverSkiesAtMidnight. It deals with Tim dealing with the aftermath of Titans Tower and his relationship with Jason and oof- the angsty dialogue is PEAK.

All of Vamillepudding's works. Well, at least the Batman ones, those are the only ones i've read. But they are all. Just. So. Good. The writing and oh- the ideas especially. Definitely some of the greatest Tim joins the batfam early fics to ever have existed.

Living Dead Boy by Terranphuem. *SCREAMS*. This fic. Let me tell you, this fic. It reached into my heart, grabbed it and teared it out then bandaged it and put it back in again. It's about Tim encountering Jason from when he just rose from the grave. And Jason's catatonic and everything and Tim helps him all by himself (with special help a little later) to make him "good enough" to return back to Bruce. SUCH A GOOD READ ISTG.

untitled titan's tower fic #89268439 by Ashynarr. It's, as the title says, a TT fic, but in this one, Jason finds Tim's old fanfiction account and tortures him by rereading some stuff from there to Tim XD Doesnt get the attention it deserves imo.

come back home please by PurpleHeartsOne. Gosh, the writing in this one... it is Up There with the Greats. I love how the emotions is captured so well here and also how smoothly the progression of chapters goes! The character development and- oh! The character reveal! Ahhhhh! Please do mind, it is still incomplete 8/10 chapters rn.

sipping the piping hot tea by BlueTee. In this one, Tim sips tea and destroys Jason instead of Titans Tower happening. Gosh, i loved the nonverbal reactions so much 😂

Conference Room 2B by motelyfam. It's part of a series, but it's so good, it deserves its own special appearance. Big bro Jason Todd! And theater kid Jason Todd! They're both in here!!

of crime lords and literature by adelfie. Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! The writing! The fucking- *slams table* THE WRITING!! It's a TT AU where Tim asks help from Jason for English h.w. There's more obviously, but that's where the plot starts. It is. so good.

don't drop the baby (i'm the baby) by Ms_Trickster. I will never ever ever shut up about this. I read this twice and both times I teared up. Both times. This fic means a lot to me on a personal level. Basically, Tim accidentally time-travels and meets a baby version of himself.

Late Night encounters by paperxcrowns. Oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh! I adore this fic! Not only is the writing especially good, but the story line, the slow and smooth and excellent progression of events and character! Ahhhh! It's about Tim meeting Jason accidentally at a cafe and him somehow accidentally helping Tim with his homework and becoming friends.

just be there by TaraLaurel is so so good. I wrote a fic inspired by it (it's Shiver btw, the title of the inspired fic). Heck, I love all the batfam fics written by them (I haven't read the other fandom fics). This one is touch-starved tim drake and who doesn't love touch-starved tim drake! But more particularly, the writing. The fucking- writing. I'm like, the person who reads fanfics, but the ones with good fucking writing become my favorite cuz then i can kinda read it again and learn from it yk? It's like, looking up to people. And I look up to this author. How they describe emotions through nonverbal actions and verbal actions and subtle actions but also the inner monologue as well. Love it all.

Lastly, I've been saving this for the end. Rebel Without A Clause by DangerBeckett. This fic covers topics like classism and has Deep Stuff in it which is so so fun to read! I started commenting from the third chapter. Then by the fifth chapter, my two-sentence comments turned to two-page comments. As did with so many other commenters. I love the author and their writing. It is truly top tier. I love the character development going on too and the retrospection of topics and events through fiction and fandom. Truly excellent. Honestly. I can go on and on. And I have! It's about Tim meeting the batfam through galas and slowly getting adopted by them. It's in-progress still.

Those were too many fics probably lol. But I kept going through my bookmarks like "Oh! I forgot about that one! It was so fun". Happy reading! Thanks for the ask! ^^

right time, wrong place — Valkirin. (T, Gen, 38k) Twelve-year-old Tim Drake has homework to finish and dinner waiting at home. He even has an invitation to spend time with Bruce before patrol the next day reviewing toxins and antidotes. It doesn't matter that Bruce prefers to keep things all-business and down in the Batcave. Having Robin again is helping, Tim can already see that, and it's always a relief to know when he's invited back.

Sixteen-year-old Tim Drake decides that he'd rather keep his distance from the tempting research project Bruce has across two work tables. It's archaeology and time travel all at once, even more interesting than usual after Bruce's long trip through time, but Bruce probably won't crack that in one night. Getting involved in the project will eliminate Tim's chance to escape to his apartment for a quiet evening rather instead of struggling through an awkward dinner with Jason and Damian and Bruce.

When the Tims suddenly switch times and places, twelve-year-old Tim has an invitation to dinner and sixteen-year-old Tim knows just what kind of ripples someone can leave from the past.

I love your batfam fic recs, do you have any fics focused on dicks relationship with bruce specifically, esp with him not being the best father? if not no worries!!

Hi! I admit, if you give me a choice between the two, I will absolutely shove Bad Dad Bruce off a building in my rush to get to Soft Dad Bruce and lovingly hold those fics up and yell at everyone to read them with me, but I actually do tend to like the thornier aspects of their dynamic, I like that Bruce does make mistakes and that the thing that's really inspiring about him is that he gets up and keeps trying again and again. So, I won't read fic where Bruce is out and out abusive and awful, but I might wander into territory where others would find too far, when it digs into that he can be a real asshole sometimes. And where that line is for any given person can be very different! But one fic I thought walked the line really well for me was: How Far Love Goes by BeatriceEagle, which is a novel-length fic about a whole bunch of the Batfam's issues all exploding out in a cascade of suck, and Bruce really does try with his kids but he's not always great at it. I would say it ends on a hopeful note, but not necessarily an easy road ahead. It's not just Dick and Bruce's relationship, it's all of the kids, but Dick has a pretty central role as far as I remember and I found it a really engrossing read! (If anyone else has recs that you think might walk the "not the best" line without being evil, I'd love to check them out, too!)

I'm not a masochist). it DOES contain implied torture from the antagonist and some implied abuse from Bruce, so be mindful and read the tags before diving in; but I personally thought it was all beautifully handled, and it's one of the few fics with Bad Dad!Bruce that I will accept because of that. all in all, it's one of those fics that tore my heart into pieces and stitched it back together at the end <3

White Lighters/Afterglow by lurkinglurkerwholurks - I reread this fic often. It hurts, but in the best of ways.

Harvest by coyote_nebula - Imagine putting two city boys on a farm. They are father and son. Now imagine them working through their complicated relationship while they do it.

Yesterday's Voices by LemonadeGarden - This is at least the second time I've read this story and by god, it is worth it! I will always love Bruce trying his best.

Aftermath by ivy_and_ivory - THAT"'S HIS DAD! THAT'S HIS SON!!!!! AND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER!! AAAAAAHHHHH!

The 70 Days After Groundhog Day by Ptelea - I love time loops but the exploration of what happens /after/ a time loop? Oof. I leave notes on all the fics I read and this one was "Two things I wasn’t expecting: 1) A story about Jason stuck in a time loop from Dick’s perspective 2) To be absolutely emotionally beat up, wrung out, and left to dry." AMAZING and a must read if you're a BatFam person

Older Sibling Duty by Icestorm238 - I'm a big fan of nicknames in my personal life, and there are so many nicknames around in the BatFam fandom. The exploration of them made me tear up. I'm also just such a big fan of this author.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT PIECE I'VE LOST by Orpheusaki - Talia Al Ghul is fascinating to me and I am obsessed with characterizations of her where she is a total mama bear. This is an extreme example of mama bear-ism but it's wonderful.

BOY WITH THE SUN SONG by Orpheusaki - I am a major Jason Todd fan and OH MY GOD!!!!!! This is so sweet and I love it. Love love love it.

IF EVERYTHING IS TEMPORARY (I WILL BEAR THE UNBEARABLE) by Orpheusaki - TIME TRAVEL! I've read fics where Bruce's kids go back and meet Martha and Thomas, but before this, I never read one about /Bruce/ going back in time and seeing his parents. It was everything I could have ever wanted in a fic like this.

little taste of heaven by loserlesbian - Surprise! This is a Sokka/Zuko fic. I loved it so much, I'm a big fan of slow burns. I will say - the characterization of Zuko was very reminiscent of me as a teenager lol.

"Call me Mystery" by Lilse - fic rec for those who can live without physical whump and canon-like action

okay but Call Me Mystery by Lilse has so many comments and is so interesting to discuss. Like. Author writes the dialogues and thoughts very cool. There is not much action in the fic, but it sure as hell has a lot of very intense stuff. I like it even more than the first part in the series. Lol Good Parent Bruce Wayne trope doesn't ruin it. And ROTATED CHARACTER POV! IT'S NOT! CENTERED! ON ONE! CHARACTER! it's nice. There is no one character in the center! They all get their chapters and you can't even separate them and skip to what you like. It's a complicated net. With holes, a little. But interesting and evolving.

The thing is, this story is not focused on how bad some people and actions are, and there is no character bashing. The story is focused on dialogues and misunderstandings and relationships of this very unusual family. And not what's good for vigilantes but what's good for them as people.

Characters: Bruce, Dick, Damian, Jason, Tim, Alfred. And young Dick and Jason from parallel universe, who named themselves John and Peter (second names).

(certainly not for people who thinks canon-only, but I don't see here any of very annoying fanon tropes and interpretations!!!!!!! or maybe I am biased because I'm following this story a long time already and not planning to drop it at all)

it's not like it's the best fic I love the most. And it's certainly not perfect. But it's something close and warm to me - because of how much work Lilse puts in there, and because of the way Lilse interacts with the readers. And the fact that, despite not really knowing canon, Lilse is not very biased and, in my opinion, all the characters in Call Me Mystery are valid. Well, Alfred is not enough there, but he has an excuse hshskaldhslamdpdpdlsfppff. Also Dick and Jason trying to be responsible adults and sometimes failing miserably - nice. And Jason's lemonades. And Dick's temper and tiredness. Tim has a bad time, but he's not woobified at all. And the fact that I finally, finally realised that this story has Bruce angst (for some reason I didn't notice it for very long time but now my eyes are open, I finally imagined myself in his place in this story). And. And. And Damian - I have no words,

Unfortunately, the characters outside of the listed are not mentioned (well, Gordon is, and someone else, but no other vigilantes or superheroes have attention). Cass and Duke probably don't exist here, bc Bruce doesn't mention them in his thoughts. That's okay, that's much better than showing some half-assed versions of them like some people do.

okay I have MUCH more to say about this fic but it doesn't matter what I think, because I would just write and write and write and write and it would be too long.

Say Uncle by Megaerakles - Tim Drake & Jason Todd

That time when Tim made up a fake uncle but make it worse. Tim ropes a newly returned to Gotham and actively revenge-scheming Jason Todd into playing Eddie Drake. Identity shenanigans and bonding and humor ensue! I love Jason and Tim's relationship in this fic as it develops over time. Steph is also a delight!

Time (to Protect You) by Blueseabird2 - Dick Grayson & Batfamily Members

Dick travels back in time after losing the last member of his family in a terrible future. Listen, I am nothing if not a sucker for time travel fix-its. I love me a story that makes things better and this is one of my go-to fics when I get in the fix-it mood. Dick is competent and hurting and ready to fight for his siblings.

New Wave by yellow_caballero - Stephanie Brown & Bruce Wayne, Stephanie Brown & Tim Drake

In which Stephanie Brown rocks the radical nineties and becomes the first Robin, ruining Batman’s life and giving Tim Drake a hobby. This one's a wonderful read! Stephanie's relationships with Bruce and Tim are really well written. A good balance between different tones is often hard to manage but this fic pulls it off. I love Tim as a hacker and delinquent Steph. One smaller thing I want to mention is Steph and the narrative's empathy. Criminals aren't unambiguous evil here, they're people.
