Something about magicians in Bartimaeus Sequence erasing their own names for self protection is so Tasty. In order to perpetuate that violence, to treat demons (and commoners) as less than human, they must first symbolically make themselves unperson. So many cultures practiced damnatio memoriae as one of the worst punishments and they did it to themselves. If you are alive as long as your name is spoken they are dead long before they die.

is there a twist that stung your heart?
Wednesday 3: the hanged man
sacrifice, release, martyrdom
which story has your favourite last moment?
Thursday 4: the tower

can you imagine a bad ending for us?

Sometimes I think about how the story begins with an ambitious and unrecognized child dreaming of power and strength, and ends with a boy who has achieved a power that no wizard in history has ever had.
And he knows it doesn't matter, because in a few seconds an explosion will tear him apart.
I have collected the cover designs of Bartimaeus sequence from as many countries as I am aware of. I have omitted some covers that have almost the same design, only the text has been localised.
There are probably many more, but to be honest, it is so difficult to find works in languages other than my mother tongue... It may not be accurate with regard to countries either.
If you know the correct answer or know of a design that is not here, it would be great if you could let me know!
They are all unique and interesting designs.
He's thousands of years old he's like twelve he thinks he's the smartest guy in the whole world he constantly refuses to think through his actions he's deeply deeply annoying he's hugely incompetent he somehow always pulls through every scrape and no one's sure how, he hates all his co-workers he keeps meeting teenagers and accidentally becoming fond of them he would literally never admit this to any of them he keeps claiming he doesn't care for human life then always tries to go easy on people he's a coward he's a cynic he's capable of love that will last millennia I didn't say his name but he popped into your head didn't you
[ID: a digital drawing of a young man of Egyptian looks. He’s floating above a pentacle, crossed-legged with his back at the viewer and his hands raised above his head, stretching and looking at the viewer. He has tanned skin, black hair cut in a bob with straight bangs, yellow eyes with feline pupils and sharp canines. He’s wearing nothing but a white linen clothe and gold cuffs on his wrists. The pentacle is drawn in white chalk and have a pentagram in the middle, which has a red candle in each of it’s corners. Between the candles are written the names Bartimaeus, Bartimaeus of Uruk, Sakhar al-Jin, Necho of Jerusalem and Rakhit of Alexandria, all in square Hebrew script. Bartimaeus himself is surrounded by red smoke, that doesn’t leave the confines of the pentacle. The background is solid dark grey. There’s a watermark that reads Jewishicequeen on the centre of the picture. End ID.]
